Flex 3 1120.- No SATA connection!

Question: Flex 3 1120.- No SATA connection!

I have a Lenovo Flex 3 1120. When I bought it, I went for the hard drive option that had the cheapest price since all the other options were HDD of various sizes and I knew I was going to upgrade to SSD anyway. The flex 3 I have though, does not have a HDD and uses an eMMC embedded storage. When I went to install the SSD, there is an empty space for where the hard drive would sit and there is no SATA connection. There is a socket in the board that is labeled "SATA conn1" but no cable.

I called support and was told it is possible to use the SSD and boot from it. The cable and caddy can be purchased but she said Lenovo will not supply the part. I found the part number I think, 1109-01051, but apparently no one else sells it either. There was one on ebay, but it's gone. anyone know where I can find one?

Preferred Solution: Flex 3 1120.- No SATA connection!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Flex 3 1120.- No SATA connection!

update: the item number is actually 5C10J08424. I still had a hard time a seller with it in stock. One website wanted about $70 for it not including shipping. I finally found/bought one on encompassparts.com for about $20 including shipping. I'll update once I get to try it out.

I just received my new Lenovo Flex 3-1120 ( Model: 80LX001KUS).  As delivered, it has 32G of eMMC.  I am desirous of upgrading the machine with a Hard Drive (which I have purchased).    I have discovered that due to the fact that the stock configuration does not have a hard drive that there are two parts that are needed to house and connect the hard drive.  From Lenovo?s parts list those parts are:5B40J08368 HDD Bracket  and5C10J08424 HDD Cable As much as I have tried I cannot find any option for purchasing these parts on-line. Please advise of options to acquire.

I have a new Flex 3 it was working fine yesterday, I shut it down last night and plugged it in, it seems to have a good charge (and I have tried it plugged in as well), but this morning it will not boot up.  I hope I don't have to take this back to BB today, any ideas?

Answer:Flex 3 -1120 wont power on

I had the same issue. it appears that a driver was installed but the system has stalled. It actually happened twice. I sent it in and they "refreshed" it and it did it again. I let the power die on it and it started back up. I don't know of a way to manually shut it down. The old way was take the battery out but its not the case here. The battery is sealed in side and I didn't want to give them a reason to void the warranty. You can charge stuff with the usb while it's unplugged, try draining the battery that way with a phone or tablet.

My battery was charging fine and then I clicked on the battery icon today to open up and the menu and it went from telling me the battery was plugged in and charging to plugged in and not charging. It was like clicking the icon turned off the charging capability. This is a brand new computer, I've only had it for a couple weeks. The battery and adapater are both okay according to OneKey Optimizer, so I can't figure out why it's not charging. Currently running Windows 10 if that helps.

Answer:Lenovo Flex 3-1120 Plugged in, not charging

Does your battery stay at about 60%?  If so, then there actually is no problem.  Lenovo Flex 3 has a feature called "Conservation Mode," which keeps the battery from charging all the way.  This will supposedly increase the lifespan of the battery, which is a good thing, since the battery isn't meant to be replaced.  If you want to charge the battery normally, just click on the battery guage on the taskbar.  You'll find the setting there.

Hello, My windows updated a few weeks ago and after the update I had a few issues with my touch pad and sound. I was able to roll back my touch pad driver and fix the problem but there has been no update to Realtek High Definition Audio Driver for several years so there was nothing to roll back to. The issue I have been having that my sound has been contstently going up leaving the sound bar on the screen (A picture is attach below if it helps). This has become very annoying since I  have not found a way to get rid of this. So far I have tried updating and deleting then reinstalling the driver but the sound bar remains. Therefore, is there any way I can fix this? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks,SoundMax

I wanted to know if there is a way to connect a SATA hardrive to an older motherboard that has no SATA connection

Answer:Adapter to connect SATA HD to motherboard with no SATA connection?

You can always use one of these PCI SATA adapter cards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=pci+sata

A computer as old as you're describing will likely have an old type standard PCI slot, and NOT a PCI-E (PCI express). be certain to verify which slot you have, before you make a purchase. These are two entirely different interfaces, which are not interchangeable.

I just bought a new Flex 2 with Windows 8.1 (64). When performing speed tests, whether wired or wifi, the speeds are much lower than my old Samsung R580 laptop running Windows 7 (64).I have RoadRunner and when wired directly to the modem with the Samsung, I can pick up speeds of over 50 Mbps (package is 50 down, 5 up). I can also get speed very close to this using a wireless connection thru my router. However, with my new Lenovo Flex 2, my wired speeds are averaging around 22 Mbps down and 5 up.Wireless is around the same, a little less on the download, using my router. It doesn't matter if I am using the battery (disconnected from power source) or not (I changed my power plan settings to keep maximum power on battery for this purpose), getting the same results.  I did go into the System/Device Settings for the adapters and found that on the Ethernet connection, it was only set to 10 Mbps/full duplex. So being wired directly to the modem, I was only getting around 10 Mbps download. No idea why this would be set at the lowest setting out of the box. I changed it and started getting around 22 Mbps download after that. I cannot find anything in the Qualcomm wireless adapter settings to change the duplex or tweak it to go faster than it is. It's a Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter.  I have tried updating the driver, but it states I have the latest one.Is there anything I can change to make my brand-spankin' new, expensive, Lenovo Flex 2 connection speed as ... Purchased a Lenovo Flex 2-15 for Christmas.  We can connect to the internet with the cable, but not using wifi.  Tech support told us it could be an issue with the computer only being able to use 2.4 GHZ, but no advice on how to fix it.   So, we exchanged it for the same model at the Microsoft store because the employee said he had never heard of such an issue.  He powered the new one up at store and connected to the wireless there, no problem.  Of course, you may not be surprised, but we broght the new one home and had the same issue with not being able to connect to the home wifi.  (Note that we have multiple other devices that easily connect including 3 other laptops). After reading through multiple blogs, decided to try switching channels on my router from Auto to Channel 1.  And, it worked!  Not sure for how long, but at least it is connected.   The jury is still out on whether we will keep the computer.  The Flex is not very flexible when it comes to Wifi.

Hi All, I have one old Sata 1 Maxtor Drive and will be doing a new build this week. I ordered a Western Digital 250GB Sata 2 drive for primary, and would like to set the old Maxtor up as a slave just to copy over my data. Will the drive work on a Sata 3gb connection just at the slower speed? Will I need to do any BIOS adjustments? Like I said, I just want to copy over my previous data so I'll only need to access the drive for a few hours.

Thanks

I have a 790i mother board with about 6 or 7 sata connections
Let's call them slot 0-6.
I will have 2 Samsung DVD optical drives and two 160gig Sata drives to be set up for Raid 0
Should I plug the optical drives into Sata slot 0 and 1 and the HDD into slot 2 and 3 or the other way around? or does it just not matter?

I recently purchased a new Pioneer DDJ SB2 DJ controller. Upon downloading the neccessary software and firmware from Serato DJ and Pioneer, I connected my controller to my computer via usb cord provided by Pioneer. However, when I opened Serato to start playing around, a error message came up saying that my hardware was disconnected. I looked up support from Serato as I thought it was a software issue. I quickly realized it wasn't after going through all the troubleshooting steps they provided. I then asked my friend to try out the program on his computer (MacBook), to see if it was a software issue or a computer problem. As expected it instantly worked on his laptop without any issues. I determined it was a problem with my computer. I took it to Geek Squad so they could have a look. Unable to fix it, they believe its a Windows 10 issue. Hi all,

has anyone successfully managed to get a Canon LBP-1120 working with Windows 8?

As you might know, Canon does not provide any Win-8 drivers, but only 32-bit drivers.

I've tried playing back and forth with XP/Vista/Win-7 drivers and running the in "compatibility mode" without any success.

Googling gave me several links about this issue, but nothing that solves my problem.

Have you made the printer the default printer for Vista , I think that when you have word loaded the printing properties default to Microsoft Office Document Image Writer and not your installed printer . Are you using driver 7.1.3.3 for the scanner , if not click here for that version , this is from the Australian Canon site , this is where I got the drivers for my N670u which works well under Vista . Hi everyone, I've been trying to use a Logitech ultrathin touch bluetooth mouse and microsoft sculpt mobile bluetooth keyboard with my ideapad. I'm running Windows 8.1.  Both work fine for a while but then it appears they lose the bluetooth connection. This seems to often coincide with access network/internet over WiFi. The only solution is to call up the Bluetooth manage devices setting and let it reconnect.  If I leave the manage bluetooth device page open on a second screen it helps, but clearly its not ideal!  I was running the Lenovo driver for Bluetooth but I've tried removing it and using the Generic Windows driver to see if that helps.  So far though the same happened after a short while. Any ideas? Many thanks and apologies if someone else has answered this query previously. Simon

Install the bluetooth driver that came with the computer. Windows update probably updated the driver automatically. The new drivers are garbage on the Y2P. Once you install that driver, disable any Windows update pertaining to that driver.

Hi there @JPMESQ, I hope you find your Support Forum experience a positive one! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you have a question about USB compatibility. I am happy to help with this. According to the USB 3.1 specification, which is referenced here: USB - wikipedia.org, "The USB 3.1 standard is backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0." So in terms of the connection it should work, but the performance will be limited by the slower standard. It is possible that some devices using USB 3.1, may not themselves not be backwards compatible, but that would be a case by case issue. I hope that addresses your question, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Hi,

I have been searching several websites, downloaded a lot of junk and tested a great many so called solutions. In spite of all efforts I could not find a working solution for the LBP-1120 on W7 x64.
Although I guess most LBP-1120 users got tired of searching and simlpy threw away their printer, I refuse to do that. So I'm running it on Virtual PC under W7 x64, a complicated afair if one has to print just a few copies. The latest thread on this (and most other forums) is of 2009, so did anything happen after that date?
Does any one know of a working (tested!)driver solution for this printer? It's a shame that Cannon did not provide a decent driver. The vista / W7 x64 does not run on x64 platforms in any mode! Even for old Epsons I was able to find W7 x64 drivers.

Kind regards,
Dave

Answer:Driver for Canon LBP-1120 Lasershot on W7 x64

First, make sure you uninstall any previously installed printer drivers in add/ remove programs which may conflict with the installation.

Check Device Manager for driver issues.

Select the newest version from the list. Then click download.

Do not turn on the printer until the software is installed.

I am having trouble printing to our canon printer via a usb cable on my new XP machine. The print goes to the printer then a data protection error or something like that comes up.I've tried updating the print drivers, but the machine still doesn't want to know. But when I connect my hp 959c again via the usb everything works fine. I know the obvious answer is to forget about the canon and just use the hp, but the canon is quicker and cheaper to run.

I just replaced the hard drive and both cooling fans. When the system is powered up the screen flashes between blue to black to gray to (red-green -blue-black horizontal lines) and repeats. I reset the bios still no change. I re checked all connections the board is getting power, i can push the eject on the DVD drive and it works, all fans come on just un able to get to bios screen. I tried powering up and hitting f10  repeatedly no change. There are no beeps what so ever on power up and while the system is on. The reason for the hard drive replacement was it just stopped working, but at the time I was able to at least get to the HP screen and troubleshoot the problem. I tried un plugging power to system holding the power button for five seconds, plugging back in still same problem. I can hit the print button on the keyboard and hear the computer beep, that is the only beeps i can get.

Please dont double post, it annoys the moderators . Is it possible to remove the cartridge and then put it back, making sure its in firmly. Ensure its in exactly the way it should be. Is there a bit of covering tape left on the cartridge?
If that fails, Canon customer services.

Hi,Probably a long shot but I wondered if anyone knew of a way to attach an SATA 3.5" hard drive to a laptop PATA connection. I have looked high and low to find some sort of converter, however, currently to no avail. It's probably a silly to think that something like this exists but if I can find one then it saves me buying a whole new hard drive to replace my broken one.If anyone knows of such products then I would be extremely grateful. Thanks in advance.Ade_1

The USB contains BIOS downloaded from Lenovo https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/93cn59ww(v9.9&v3.8).exe I extracted 93cn59ww.fd and used Andy's Phoenix Tool (from mydigitallife website) to find bios filename but Andy's Tool doesn't show what filename I should rename it to on USB.When I power on the laptop all that happens is the white power light comes on. However,If I hold fn+r while turning the laptop on the power light turns red and continues to blink. If I plugin or unplug the power cable the laptop beeps. I'm hopefull I can get this working if I can find out the filename. I've tried naming the file bios.bin, bios.fd, bios.wph, ect but I have had no luck. The original bios was InsydeH20 93cn55ww(v9.5).64bitPlease can anybody help me find the filename I need to rename 93cn59ww.fd to on the USB? Hi, hopefully should be straight forward enough...

I have just bought one of these space saving Acer Revos which does not come with an Optical drive.

I have a Blu-ray reader (dvd writer) which is SATA, but the Revo only has USB or eSATA.
So... i was wondering what is needed to get this (SATA) drive to work via eSATA or usb?

Is it as simple as a SATA to eSATA cable or will this not give the necessary power to the drive?

Or do i need an eSATA enclosure, and if so what size for an optical drive 5.2?

Cheers for any help.

I have just bought a new hp media pc and it has sata (very fast and reliable at the moment), but it has also got a sata cable on the dvd/rw drive can i get a cable to connect a 2nd dvd rom drive or does this have to be a sata dvd rom drive all new to me if anyone can help would be very pleased thank you

Answer:sata connection

Vheck yur motherboard manual. Most sata boards I've seen have at least 4 sata ports. So you can buy a sata DVDrom drive and sata cable.Check also if your board has an IDE connection most have at least one, if so you could buy a standard eide dvd rom drive and an IDE 80 wire cable.

HiSorry if I'm asking such a simple question, but here goes.I recently bought a new Sony internal DVD-RW to replace one that was playing up. The new one had SATA connection instead of IDE.After searching the forum, I ordered a power connector lead and SATA lead, which arrived today, and I connected everything up.As far as I can see, my motherboard (Asus A8V Deluxe) has two SATA connectors - one labelled "SATA RAID" and the other labelled "SATA RAID 2". The HDD is connected to the first one, so I connected the new DVD-RW to the second (empty) one. When I turned the PC on, I got the usual message about "searching IDE drives", but it didn't go any further than that.I reset the PC and disconnected the DVD-RW from the motherboard, so that there was no DVD-RW connected at all (as I had removed the old one). This time it started up without a problem.Could someone tell me how / where I should be connecting the new DVD-RW, please? Thanks very much!!

Answer:SATA Connection on DVD-RW

The connection is correct, however you need to go into the BIOS and change the settings. In the BIOS go to the Advanced option and change the RAID setting to IDE.Chapter 4 of the manual should tell you how to do this. See also page 2-23 of the manual.

Hi All Merry Xmas to everyone
Q i have installed MSI k9A2GM V2/V3 M/B with 5oo GB H/D (sata connection) I want to connect another H/D but it is an IDE connection as 2nd H/D (slave), The book says it supports IDE H/D drives and other devices, will this work as a 2nd H/D with the main being sata.and how to go about it? i have installed IDE connections before for 2nd H/D but not IDE & Sata
many thanks to any info. TWO BOB

Answer:ide connection/sata

o.k. two bob, from what I could see, you have the connector for an IDE HDD, I would jumper that HDD for slave and plug it in after you power down of course, and your bios/cmos should recognize it, if it doesn't, write down that good ole info about the HDD and manually input it to get it to recognize it, and then try it again.

Question: SATA Connection

I have a Dell Dimension 5150 running W7 Home Premium 32bit. Recently the system has been stopping for no reason, then the hard drive whirrs and we are back running. The stopping became more frequent, and today the system stopped at the bios saying that it couldn't find the disk 0. I changed disk 0 to sata 1 and disabled sata 0 at the bios. System booted and worked with no problem. Checked sata cable by changing them over, but keeping to sata interface 1 on the motherboard. All OK so no problems with the cables. I need two drives as I have my system setup as Sata 0 System Drive, Sata 1 Backup drive. I take daily incremental backups. How can I determine if Sata interface 0 really is broken on the Motherboard and is the only real solution a new board.
There are only two Sata interfaces on the board.

Thanks for any help

I recently installed a new 160GB SATA Hitachi hard drive on my computer. I installed windows on it fine but the hard drive seems to be performing very poorly. It seems to have issues with simple multitasking. Whenever I am installing anything my system almost comes to a stop if I try to do anything else - sound starts skipping, mouse starts skipping, programs stop responding, etc... I do not have SP1 installed yet and was wondering if this is the problem and if not what else is the most likely suspect. Also I have no drivers for the SATA controller on the mobo. there were only drivers for the RAID on the floppy and no sign of them on the CD unless they were incorporated in some other driver set. There are no drivers for it on the website either.

My question is in regards to the M.2 connection on the motherboard for the Lenovo P40 Yoga. Is the connection a SATA or PCIe M.2, or a hybrid connection? No where on any of the product PDF files does it give the specifications as the the type of connection it is, other than to say that it is an M.2 connection. Also please confirm that this is a "2242" size M.2 bay size restriction.

Doing some rearranging and reseating for sake of troubleshooting my BSOD issue and I ended up moving my SSDs to where the regular drive bays are instead of on the back slides of the case. I hadn't noticed this before since all the sata connectors for these two drives would push up against the case a bit. Now that the drives aren't up against anything, I could literally flick or swipe the sata cord loose from my 840 Pro. (A loud fan might even knock it out after a while). My 840 Evo doesn't have this issue, as the plastic molding extends and seats the sata clips well enough. The Pro seems to be missing this in its design. (Maybe I got the wrong version?)

Anyone run into this or have solutions other than slapping it back where it was? I tried all the cords I have and they're all the same fit.

Thanks.

Answer:Very loose SATA connection on 840 Pro

I have an 840 EVO and an 850 EVO installed in my system. I don't notice the connectors being loose or any different from the 1TB Hard drive that is also installed. My SATA data cables have a spring loaded clip that must be depressed to remove the connector from a drive.

Greetings Geeks -

I have been battling an army of gremlins (and myself) affecting my computer. I had given up, and went ahead and ordered new parts to construct a new rig. Well, of course, in the meantime, I got the stupid thing working. It went like this:

then :confused after the system would not recognize the HD. Then :mad after I realized the SATA connection on the drive was damaged. Then:cry

So, I turn to you Geeks for help......

The SATA connection on the drive was damaged. Specifically, the plastic bridge underneath the pins somehow broke off. Here is a link to an image of the damage:

http://s28.photobucket.com/user/hippydog/media/HardDrive_zps792eb12d.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0

I did try to attach the cable anyway, but the pins had been bent and I had to straighten them. Of course the cable won't seat firmly, so I can't be sure how well the connection is. I for a long time to get the system to recognize the drive, no luck.

So, is the damage fixable? Can the drive be sent away for repair? I have never ever had a drive damaged in this way, and I have been building computers for 20 years. I am extremely careful when installing, handling, and removing parts. Maybe the plastic was overly brittle? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Oh yeah, can anyone recommend a good HD for a great price?! :-D:

Answer:Can This HD SATA Connection Be Fixed ?

Can the drive be sent away for repair

Instead, find a similiar drive ; ebay, tech shop, repair shop- and swap out the circuit board. This will let you retrieve any data you want from the drive or continue to use it. If its just a broke pin connection you will have two good drives just one at any time with the good circuit board. Remember the heads ribbon cable is even more fragile.

Hello guys,

Upon trying pretty much everything I know and what others have advise me without success I decided to come here getting help from you, since there is a lot of knowledge members and I usually come here looking for answers and advices everytime something bad happens with my system.

The issue is as follow - last week my system began freezing without reason and rebooting would make the following message appears "disk boot failure, insert system disc and press enter" and my motherboard (Asus A8N-SLI) wouldn't recognize the HDD. I would left it off for a few minutes and it would work fine, at least until freezing again. The issue got worse and I worked it out by slightly budge the HDD SATA cable where it connects to the motherboard.

However after a few days the issue turned up again. I connected the HDD to the other SATA slots, checked other SATA cables and other HDD but the problem persisted. Checked the power supply's cable and it was working fine and the HDD is also working fine in other computers. I thought it was the motherboard SATA connectors that are damaged since HDD IDE works fine and bought a Delock SATA II PCI Express Card but it also doesn't recognized the HDD.

Sometimes the DVD drivers' names on the BIOS are wrongly written, too. Instead of Sony it displays SYNE or POENERR instead of Pioneer or something along the lines.

I no longer have any idea nor does anyone who could help me. What do you guys think? Could it be that the motherboard SAT... Read more

welcome to the forum.

Well youve been prity extensive with your testing
Firstly try updating your chipset drivers for your motherboard.
Then id do some memory tests, if the HDD cant write to the ram then all kinds of issues persist.

Then id start flapping as it would point towards a dying or dead board.

Hi, I'm about to add a SSD drive to my new Pavilion 510-199. I don't really want to do that though as there is only one free PCIe slot and I may want to upgrade the graphics card in the future. thanks for any assistance

Answer:No free SATA connection!

The SATA port the DVD drive is using should be acceptable for the SSD.  Since this motherboard is so limited, be sure the SSD uses the same power connection as the DVD drive or that the power supply has the correct connector.

Esata cables are for external drives.

I have one Hiitachi Hard drive with data on it from my old computer.
I would like to transfer the data from this hard drive to my new computer.
For that I bought a USB IDE/SATA adapter from VZTEC, VZ-UA2259.

The old hard drive has two partitions. On the first Partition is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. The second partition contains no system, just data.

Problem: I connected the Adapter with the old hard drive, plugged it in and I saw the two partitions. I was able to download some data. Automatically a driver was installed for the new hardware.
I disconnected the old hard drive to continue the next day.
Next day, I connected the old hard drive to my new computer and the partitions were not shown. Instead I got a message asking me to format the two partitions.
I disconnected the drive and re-connected it...Same problem.

I went to my second computer, also W7 HP64bit, Connected the hard drive.
First time worked, I saw the two partitions of my old hard drive. All following attempts failed to connect the disk.

What am I doing wrong?

Hello
I am running two Maxtor 200g sata 2 hard drives in my setup. I am fully aware of the general view of Maxtor drives, but I dont think they are the problem, OTOH
Just recently my backup drive disappeared, I opened up the case, pulled the sata cables and replugged them in.
Rebooted and all was well.
This has happened about four times now, (starting to get a bit annoyed)
This morning my boot drive dissapeared, replugged now working again
The sata leads came with the mobo.
Would I be right in thinking that maybe its just a case of getting some better quality sata leads?
Could it be the board? or maybe the drives?
Anyone else come across this problem?
Opinions appreciated

Answer:Sata drives drops connection

Hi bigbear

Maybe a new set of cables would help. I have also read here about users gluing the cables to the drives and system boards so that they wouldn't move. Maybe some rubber cement? The SATA cables and connections are pretty flimsy when compared to an IDE cable.

I have WD drives with the SecureConnect cables I especially bought so that I wouldn't have this problem anymore after the fiasco of using ASUS's supplied SATA cables. Adrynaline mentioned that his click into place and I've never seen that, in my one and only build. ASUS A8N-E. I'm tempted to just super glue the things in place on the mobo or spread the prongs a bit, neither of which I'm keen on doing.

BTW, all four slots are the same, no positive physical connection. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks for your time.

I just upgraded a 2006 desktop PC with a 240gb Sandisk Ultra II SSD. The system is faster in all the areas I'd hoped for, but not as fast as it could be.

The Sandisk dashboard reports that the connection is only 1.5 Gb/s, even though the motherboard (Gigabyte M55 SLI S4) supports SATA 3 Gb/s (Sata II.) The Window Experience Index rates the drive at 6.9. Meanwhile, a Crucial BX200 drive recently installed in a 2010 thin-n-light laptop, also SATA II, rates a 7.7 in WEI, and the laptop generally feels snappier than the desktop even though it is overall a slower machine.

A few points: the desktop PC's mobo does not support AHCI, just IDE. I've optimized all the settings I know of to optimize, eg turning off prefetch and defrag etc. I'm using a 10-year-old SATA cable. I didn't find any obvious BIOS setting to tweak.

Any ideas?

Answer:Sata 3Gb/s connection running at 1.5 Gb/s with new SSD installed

Hello and welcome Chris mate did you also update the CPU on this machine because the specs are telling me it was not released until 2008. AMD Athlon X2 5600+ - ADO5600IAA5DO (ADO5600DOBOX)
By the way if you look at this site GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM2 - GA-M55SLI-S4 (rev. 1.0) it gives drivers only up to XP though there are refs to more recent versions of Windows whether the support is that good would in my mind be debatable.

Having said that I am also of the opinion that being an older machine with that CPU and slower RAM that you might not be able to get the speed out of it because of what that CPU and RAM can handle - the SanDisk I also use in some of my machines and are as you say lightning fast but I think maybe it is being throttled by the other gear.

For example I have an older tester machine with a really great CPU (Intel Q9650 and 8GB DDR2 RAM) and even running with a nice Samsung 850 EVO it isn't real fast in boot up although once moving it is quick enough for most jobs.

Just by the by just because the manufacturers state that components will run at 3Gbs does not necessarily mean they actually do. A good example would be USB 3.0 over 2.0 they say it runs near ten times faster when in reality it is sometimes nearer 10% faster.
But I stand to be corrected on any of what I have said of course - you may get a different view from other members. Myself I wuld be quite happy with what you have got and if you need to go faster then you may have to look... Read more

SATA cable connection problems? This appears to be another P O (Planned Obsolescence) situation to persuade PC owners to buy a new PC.
I lost count long ago as to how many "dead" PC's with PATA drives that I have resurrected just by cleaning and tightening the Molex 4-wire DC power connections (which are raw copper inside.)
Now we have a similar situation with the SATA logic cables; even reputable brands. These cables are so loose that they have no firm contact, so it doesn't take much to make them fail. To remedy this condition, remove the cable, cut a piece of electrical tape about 3/8" to 7/16" long (and full width of the roll) and insert it into the end of the SATA cable connector, WITH THE STICKY SIDE AWAY FROM THE CONTACTS. Insert it as far as it will go, then carefully fold the tape back over the outside of the connector. This should result in a firm connection when the cable is re-installed. In the rare event that it is too tight, remove the electrical tape and use scotch tape or something a bit thinner.

My hard drive recently went on me, so I ordered a new one. I guess I did it kind of hastily, since upon its arrival today, I came to find out that it is an SATA hard drive, while my laptop only furnishes an Ultra-ATA (44 pin) connection. DOH! My question is: does anyone know if an adaptor exists which would allow me to use this new hard drive on my laptop? And if so, any ideas where I might be able to get it? I did find that such adaptors exist for desktop computers, but haven't been able to find anything for the laptop. I've also found the universal USB adaptors, but that won't help either due to the fact that this will be my primary/only drive, and needs to be bootable. Any help here would be appreciated, I'm really trying to avoid returning this thing.

Thanks in Advance!

Answer:SATA HDD in laptop with Ultra ATA connection

There's no room in laptops to install an internal hard drive adapter, return the SATA if you can, otherwise buy the proper IDE laptop drive

I'm going to be installing a Western Digital "Raptor" SATA hard drive into an Asus P5Q motherboard. The drive came with a data cable, but no power cable.

The hard drive itself can accept a SATA-style power-cable, a four-pin (molex) connector, or both (seems like overkill though).

I have two cables on hand: one is a four-pin (molex) to SATA-power connector cable, the other is a six-pin to SATA-power connector.

Can I use one of those cables to connect power to the hard drive and if so which one is preferable, the four-pin molex or the six-pin? I'm pretty sure I'll have both types of connections available from the PSU (lots of left over connectors) so I can use either.

Or... could I bypass the SATA-style power connector altogether and just plug in one of the molex connectors since the drive has a four-pin (molex) "socket"?

I'll go with whatever is best. Input appreciated!!

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Solved: SATA HD Power Connection... 4 Pin? 6 Pin?

I think the molex is there because some PSUs didn't supply enough SATA power connectors.
Either will work, but on my older ASUS board I prefer the molex because they seem to have a better connection.

I am planning to add a SATA drive to an existing computer that now has a single PATA drive. My ASUS K8V mobo has connectors for SATA drives, but my 400w power supply has only the standard 4 pin power connectors used by PATA drives. Do SATA drives need a different power connector? If so, what additional adapters do I need if I wish to use the existing power unit?

I've a friend who would like to add an SSD and it appears this machine has no provisions for a second HDD. There is a replacement caddy for the ODD it seems but the intention might be (to be simple) use the SSD in the ODD caddy as the BOOT PRIMARY and leave maybe the 5400 spinning drive where it is. I've researched I thought pretty well and can't find the "speed of the ODD" connection to the system-board. I understand that an m.2 or maybe an mSATA can be used but the system-board needs removed and turned over to install it. I don't know that I'm interested in all of that disassembly. Anyone done the ODD caddy? How aout the true difficulty of the m.2 or mSATA install? Which is it? The m.2 or just mSATA. Is the acual "logical thought" here to use the SSD in the PRIMARY slot and move the spinner to the ODD caddy? I would have thought yes but I certainly don't know. I'd appreciate the help! This will get a W10 install also - is there any "quirks" that I should be on the look out for? It appears supported so ......................

What connection from the HDD to the Mainboard are inside: SATA II or SATA III ?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-234 - need info about SATA Connection

This depends on the chipset.
What chipset is part of your notebook?

As I’m not mistaken the chipset could be the Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset

According to Intel ARK page the Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset supports the SATA II (3 Gb/s)

Thought I'd be smart and pick up a couple of HDs and cases separately to save a few ús but all appears to have backfired...

I picked up a SATA to SATA and a second IDE to SATA enclosure to fit a couple of Hard Drives inside with the intention of connecting to the USB2.0 ports on my laptop... the HDs are in fine, but I made the assumption that all external enclosures connect to a USB port and the above combinations denoted the internals of the case...

So now I'm stuck with a laptop without a SATA port... and two hard drives with SATA cables but no means to connect them to the USB 2 or any other ports on my laptop...

Ideal solution would be to pick up a cable with a SATA connector on one end to connect to the HD enclosure and a USB2 connector on the other end but after a quick google, I don't think it's going to be that simple!

What are my options?

Answer:Connection Issue with External SATA HD Enclosure

Buy new enclosures... I am afraid that may be your only option

Answer:Are these speeds average or perhaps normal for a SATA II connection?

Yes that is a normal speed for SATA II. You did not reach the max for II so your drive will work fine. The max speed for II is 300mb so that is totally fine.

Hello experts,

I'm a newbie when it comes to working with computer hardwares.

Please help me out here, I urgently need some advice and guidelines on how to proceed with solving a problem.

Here's the scenario:
I have two desktop IBM computers of the same model. A has lost its recovery / service partition, while B has a fully functional recovery / service partition.

I would like to restore A's recovery / service partition back (factory default setting) and to do that, I would like to use a SATA connection and connect these two computers together. This is so that the hard disk contents in B can be copied onto A.

How can I get this done? Details will be very much appreciated, as I do not know much about these hardware stuff.

Please help. Many thanks in advance!

Answer:Factory default setting via SATA connection?

You mean using eSATA? I'm not so sure about that or any other external way of doing so.

There is another way, that is to take the hard drive from either computer and put them on the same system. Then get a hold of GPartEd live CD and use the copy function to copy and paste a partition to another hard drive.

Hello

I wish to connect a second hard drive to my XW6200. Last Tuesday a friend gave me the connection procedure:

"The hp manual shows you can have 2 Serial ATA Sata drives. See the manual.
Refer to pg 69 item 19 and 20 for the Sata data headers. Refer to pg 100
for the hard drive bay.
The PSU has 2 Sata power leads, so all you need is a Sata data lead.
Just mimic the existing lead."

Unfortunately, when I tried to put this into practice, I discovered that SATA item # 19 was being used by my CD/DVD drive
( It might be item # 20, I'm no longer sure). I would like to know what options I have now.

Would you recommend my adding a new PCI SATA add-on card?
Thank you very much for your help.

All the best,

Boyard

Answer:hp xw6200 Win 7 Pro 54 bit 2nd SATA hard drive connection

You could do that, or you could get an IDE Optical drive and connect it to 12 or 14. Or you can get an adapter like this StarTech IDE2SAT25 StarTech.com 40 Pin Female IDE to SATA Adapter Converter

If using an adapter, use it on the optical drive for minimal performance loss.
