Insert the 'Dell Support Center (Support Software)' disk

Question: Insert the 'Dell Support Center (Support Software)' disk

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less. I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional. Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE. I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi. I haven't managed to find it yet. I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program. This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

Preferred Solution: Insert the 'Dell Support Center (Support Software)' disk

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:CANNOT uninstall Dell Support Software Center

Oh and BTW - I've already done a search on my entire PC for D*.msi and only two Microsoft installers come up that have nothing to do with this!

It was working a week ago until I had to do a system restore. I have searched the net but cannot find an answer to reinstalling. Can anyone help me.

does updating os slow down pc ?

thanks in advanced bro

Answer:about dell support center

Disabling Services does nothing to conserve energy unless you have a ruwaway Process that is hogging your CPU which requires troubleshooting in other ways.

You should keep Win7 fully updated for best security and performance. Optional Updates will help keep your drivers current and can also be trusted and useful.

Use the Win7 firewall with a free lightweight AV like Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast 6.

hi to all. I have Dell Inspiron 17R 7720 SE laptop and I'm trying to install Dell Support Center. I downloaded the aulauncher.exe and tried to install it.
please someone post a link here for the full setup installer of Dell Support Center so I can install it to my laptop.
thank you!!!

Answer:Dell Support Center setup?

An issue was found and corrected in the AppUpdater rule set yesterday. Please download and run to have the correct version of the application downloaded and installed on your system. Direct links cannot be provided to the full installer since different platforms and operating system architectures require different installers.

I got tired of Dell Support Center slowing down my computer and tried to uninstall it. Didn't let me at first. Tried to get to to see if it had a solution. Got Page not found message. Got to a web page that had bleeping as a link. Got Page not found message. In a command window did nslookup Got a not found message. Did nslookup, IP address was returned.Located the Dell Support Center process in Task Manager and clicked End, process stopped, was then able to uninstall Dell Support Center. Did another nslookup of bleeping, got a proper answer. Entered it in URL and got to Bleeping. So, is Dell Support Center blocking access to Bleeping? If so, is it blocking access to anything else?If you want to stop Dell Support Center (this is 2.01 IIR) look for sprtcmd.exe in Task Manager and kill it.

Answer:Dell Support Center Blocking

Bleeping Computer was experiencing some downtime today. It was out for a good 2 hours earlier. I wouldn't blame any program yet.

A few weeks ago I did two updates - one was the Dell Support Center update and the other was an update entitled KB951978. Since then, I'm unable to shut down my computer - I get an error message asking me to end "sprtcmd.exe". I hit "end now", and usually it shuts down OK. In addition, it's taking much longer for web pages to load and applications to run.

I'm scared to uninstall the updates - is it safe to do that? Everything was perfectly fine until then. I saw the other thread with tips on how to do it.

My question is: do I uninstall the Dell Support Center UPDATE or the entire thing itself? I'm afraid to get rid of it altogether.

Also, should I try uninstalling the KB951978 update? I have no idea or comfort level with what that is.

my machine is dell dimension with windows xp sp2.recently, as advised by dell people, i uninstalled the old 'dell support' and ind installed new 'dell support center'
but on restart i got BSOD and had to restore back.i tried it five times but always with the same result.currently i'm without any means to get help from dell, should i need it.
pl. help

Answer:BSOD after installing 'dell support center'

The BSOD error message in its entirety would be a good thing and one thought on this and this might solve the problem quicker, since Dell tech support told you to upgrade to the new help center and it went south I am only suggesting this because I have worked in tech support before (not with Dell) I would contact Dell tech support and have the BSOD error message ready for them. The tech support usually has all or most of the solutions for their software handy right there in thier database, and this will solve the problem a lot faster than here.

From my personal experience there is no value to Dell Support Center and you can safely stop it from running.

In the first place, is Dell Support Center necessary...should I just uninstall it?

Answer:Dell Support Center persistently starts up on boot

is Dell Support Center necessary...should I just uninstall itClick to expand...

I would

And while you're at it, you can uninstall Norton (usually installed) and install AVG Free instead

Actually you may want to run Startup Control Panel and remove any other not required startup program as well

i currently have a dell Inspiron 5558 laptop for over an year now but the screen stop working over 6 months ago, i looked up the warranty information at the time of screen stopped working and was re-assured that it showed February 18, 2017 therefore i did not consider that it is very urgent to call tech support since i have other laptops. today when i call the support service, i was informed that product was not registered and i have to pay $233 to replace the LCD screen, they still argued that dell warranty website showed the correct information but when i looked it up, the website still displays the same. did anyone else encounter this issue??
below is the warranty service which is still display at this time

After having been in touch with Dell support for nearly three months, I decided to recount my experiences here, mainly to provide insights for future Dell customers as to what their rights are, and to provide tips on how to effectively contact tech support.
I hope this guide can be of use for people struggling with their purchase as much as I did (and in fact, continue to).
Anyone having further insight to improve this article is welcome to leave notes here, and I will try to incorporate them in an update if deemed relevant.

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem.
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP

Answer:Who do you contact if the DELL India Escalation and Support Team fails to provide support for brand new Laptops

I am no expert here, but it looks like the Update service is looking for a Recovery partition which may hold the WinRE tools. On my current system, that would be partition 4 but it could be different on yours. Running the command below in an administrative command prompt should show what partition is configured for the Tools.
reagentc /info
Have you made any changes to your drive configuration? The reagentc info should show the same partition the Update Utility is looking for.

I have a Dell E510 with XP 2003. Intermittently, I get this annoying: 'Error 1706.No Valid source could be found for product Dell Support Center [Support Software]. The Windows Installer cannot continue.' This acts like it is trying to load, then gives this Error 1706 and starts all over again.

I have to use the Task Manager to kill this, but would really like to never see Error 1706 again.

Answer:Error 1706 No valid source could be found for product Dell Support Center

To add insult to injury 'Driver Detective' advertised in Major claimint to have Free download of all drivers to fix 1706 Error. After downloading this 100% Free fix, it ran a scan, claimed to have found 53 driver errors and then said to fix, I must Buy their software. Not exactly Free download or Fix like they advertise is it? There are several fake companies/names claiming the same Free fix. After clicking on all (different names) they all go to the Bogus Driver Detective. If they are going to Lie about a Free Fix and Free Driver download, how could I possibly believe that paying them for their software would actually work. You are right, their credibility is Gone.

Does the final RTM Windows 7 support SOFTWARE RAID-1 (dynamic disk mirroring)? I know it supports fake-raid and hardware raid but I want to use software raid because my disks are of different size. I don't want to try it myself since I would have to convert my disks to dynamic.
Windows Vista didn't support it. XP had it disabled but could be hacked. It was enabled in Windows server 2003 (and probably others).

Dell Support "Assist" just ran without giving me an option to stop, pause, or control in anyway. It was using nearly all computer resources (I could barely save the word document I had open at the time). This isn't "assist" more like computer take over.

How can I control the S. "Assist"? How can I adjust the time between it's runs (currently it looks like monthly)? After finishing it's scan or whatever it finally closed (cuz it wouldn't close the 20 times or so I clicked the "X"). I then opened it, looking for some results of the scan, and found none. How can I view results?

Right now, seems like worthless bloatware.

Also, there is not a [New Post] button on the Laptop Forum (at least for me).

OK.....i am on an XP operating system on a dell. everytime one of the users logs off, we get the window that says "ending program sprtcmd.exe", and then we have to go and end program manually every time we log off. i read a similar post on here where someone was having that problem, and was told it was related to the dell support center, and they were advised to uninstall it. i tried to uninstall the dell support center, and this message pops up:

"Error 1306. Another application has exclusive access to the file c:/Documents and settings\Barb\Local Settings\Application Data\Support Soft\Dell Support Center\Barb\state\ logs\sprtcmd.log.
Please shut down all other applications then click Retry"

It will not let me click retry, i have to close out the little window or hit cancel, then it goes through a little more of the "windows configuring", and then i get a little window for "add or remove programs" that says "fatal error during installation" and then that's that. it won't let me uninstall the program!
i know this isn't a major problem or anything, but still having to manually click that window everytime i log off is quite aggrivating.
any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Are you on dial-up internet by any chance? Some of the links may be to internet sites and if you're not on the net at the time, you will get that error. If you right click on the link that is doing that to you, you can see the address.

If it's a file on your C drive, then you may need to repair your help files. If the file is an http: then log onto the net to continue.

Hope that helps,

It's not called the Get Started app in Windows 10. You can open it from within All apps on your Start menu.

I am unable to open the Help and Support Center in XP (Home)
I recently installed and ran a registry cleaner.
I am unable to restore to an earlier setting either from system restore or the registry cleaner's back-up
I have looked in microsofts KB, articles 888018 & 555329 to no avail.
The value data of the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\HELPCTR.EXE is
which appears to be correct
I believe the program tries to run but task manager never shows it. I get no error messages at all

Any ideas?

Thx in advance

Answer:Help and Support Center AWOL

Further to the above
HelpCtr.exe does run in Task manager for about 2 seconds then disappears??

Help and Support Center page needs help. Opens up extremely slow now that a clean install has been done. At one point the H&S Center page would not open. System restore would not work. Defragmenter could not finish all files. Restarting the computer did help. This has been happening since a complete cleanup done to erase, zero, reformat and reinstall all programs needed for normal operation... if there ever is a normal operation. These problems occurred after MS updates and .net Framework installed .NET 1, SP and 2 installed. All items working properly prior to updates and the .NET install. It wasn?t that bad erasing everything, zeroing , reformatting and putting WXP HE back on. That was a lot faster than fishing for much needed help that does not appear to be anywhere around without a substantial fee. Thank you for allowing the post.

Answer:Help and Support Center page needs help

Go to START>RUN and type sfc /scannow - which will check your core system files - you may be asked to put your XP CD in a drive.

I have a computer that is running Windows XP SP3 and I cannot get it to launch the Help and Support center (in the start menu). Further, the help functions in Microsoft Office 2003 do not work properly (I can search for help articles, but when I click one the window that normally comes up with the help article is empty), and no help functionality is available in AutoCadLT. I assume that all help functionality that is supported by the Windows Help system is not working.

I tried launching the support center from C:\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\helpctr.exe, but it still would not launch.

Help center does not launch in safe mode either.

I followed the procedure here: with no luck.

Has anyone here seen an issue like this before? Any ideas?

Thanks so much for any help,

Answer:Repairing Help and Support Center

Well I know you said you decided to reformat and reinstall.

But I was wondering if your problem may have come about due to the exploit in XP help and support center.

If I were you I would keep a close eye on the new install just in case. I know if it were my system I wouldn’t be too comfortable with the timing of the problem and the help and support exploit going public recently.

I've lost access to help and support center in XP home. When I click the links in start menu and in control panel, nothing happens. I've also noted some rogue folders on my c drive, which may be related? Those folders are empty, with the exception of a file that I can't open, and that microsoft's tool doesn't recognise. I've scanned my system with uptodate virus and spyware scanners, and found nothing. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks,

Answer:Can't access Help and Support Center in XP home

You could try the following:-1/Start Menu/Help and Support doesn't work: Go to Start/Run and type in: helpctr -regserver2/To reinstall Help and Support: Go to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf. Right click and choose install. Have your CD handy.Note: The folder is hidden by default. Go to Start/Run and type in: control folders. View: Show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types. These usually work.

Just go to System Tools under Accessories in the Start Menu and you should find System Restore under the System Tools menu. I'm not sure but it sounds like you're running Windows XP. If so then this should work fine for you.

I called-in to request Vista disks and I was very happy to discover that the tech spoke fluent English. Wes, who is evidently located in Canada, was very helpful and courteous. Lenovo management will be happy to hear that he diligently tried to up-sell me into a 2 year support plan. I told him that I had to decline because I was planning to upgrade the processor to a T9300 next year, the day after the warranty expires. I've got a price alert at Newegg to let me know when the CPU drops below $200 USD, lol. Anyway, kudos to Lenovo for a great technical support experience!

Hello there,
Lately support center doesn't want to work, after some seconds a "the application stopped working. windows is looking for a possible solution" message pops up. needless to say, windows never found a solution. I tried uninstalling and doing a clean install of all the dell support suite several times with no luck, i don't have any antivirus on, except windows defender.
I'm trying to run SC version 1.0.665.2 on win 8.1,
I wanted to run a scan because after installing win 10 trial version and going back to win 8.1 my workstation is acting pretty weird (and sloppy).

Hope someone out there can help!

Answer:Help and Support Center Opens Very Slowly

Do a repair install of XP...or run the sfc /scannow command.Chances are your registry cleaner has deleted/damaged some system files that are needed.Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons: Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.
Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will n... Read more

Help and Support Center page needs help. The HSC page snapped open when Windows was reinstalled. After updating and installing the needed .NET Framwork 1 and 2 plus the .NET SP the HSC page slowed down a lot. Sometimes the page will not open at all. Is there a way to make HSC open up fast like it did after reinstall? The OS is WXP HE SP2

Answer:Help and Support Center page needs help... detailed

Hi rlmarr

Here's a page over a Kelley's Korner with half-a-dozen tricks for trying to get Help and Support happy again --- note that you'll have to scroll down quite a ways to get to the "Help and Support" category ---

I think a decent quick-fix try might be to reinstall the .inf file for the Help and Support service - you might or might not need your Windows XP CD (because if you still have your XP SP2 .cabs on your hard drive - which you likely do, if you didn't manually delete them - the files needed will be right there) ---
Go to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf. Right click and choose install.

If your system has a modest amount of system memory (RAM) installed, look in Task Manager (in the "Performance" tab) to see if the amount of physical memory installed isn't enough to cover what is needed by your background processes + your running applications -- this would cause your computer to have to use the page file extensively, and slow things down dramatically from time to time.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

I am very disappointed to know that Windows 8 Media Center would not support Blu-ray. We would need third party software for this. So officially Microsoft is not supporting the Blu-ray format. This is really a disappointment as this shows that Microsoft is somehow moving away from the PCs (desktops/laptops) and going forward with the mobile devices. And the future of desktops and laptops are doomed. As a user of desktop, a few years ago I was looking forward to the Blu-ray era after the DVD era and was hoping that Games, software etc. would would soon be available in the Blu-ray format but it seems that Microsoft has decided to abandon desktops and laptops. Now I wish if there is some alternative OS to Windows!

Windows 8 Media Center does not support Blu-Ray

Answer:Windows 8 Media Center does not support Blu-Ray! :(

Fees to include blu-ray support in their native player would have been expensive for microsoft, that is why it is not included.

One can download the free media center pack to get native dvd in windows 8.

One can also download free third party player VLC and the associated blu-ray libraries and get support for blu-ray in windows 8.

Help and Support Center provides a centralized facility through which
users can obtain assistance on a variety of topics. For instance, it
provides product documentation, assistance in determining hardware
compatibility, access to Windows Update, online help from Microsoft,
and other assistance.

A security vulnerability is present in the Windows XP version of Help
and Support Center, and results because a file intended only for use
by the system is instead available for use by any web page. The
purpose of the file is to enable anonymous upload of hardware
information, with the user's permission, so that Microsoft can
evaluate which devices users are not currently finding device drivers
for. This information is then used to work with hardware vendors and
device teams to improve the quality and quantity of drivers available
in Windows. By design, after attempting to upload an XML file
containing the hardware information, the system deletes it.

An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by constructing a web
page that, when opened, would call the errant function and supply the
name of an existing file or folder as the argument. The attempt to
upload the file or folder would fail, but the file nevertheless would
be deleted. The page could be hosted on a web site in order to attack
users visiting the site, or could be sent as an HTML mail in order to
attack the recipient when it was opened.

Hi,I had to bring an Ideapad Z470 to the service center in Thailand, the hard drive got broken and it had more than 25% of the sectors with error. I contacted Lenovo by phone and they gave me a service center to bring it for repairment, it was quite easy to get my laptop for repairment. One day after leaving it, they called me asking for my account password. And I got surprised, like this: *_*I didn't want to share my password because as everybody knows, to check a HD there is no need, and to replace it neither. As the center said they needed to start working I called Lenovo Contact Center to ask the normal procedure to repair it and they told me:The standard procedure is to get in your account, that is why we need the password to do an scandisk. So I got surprised again, like this: *_* What I'm going to do? Do I have to share my password to get it repaired? I'don't want them to install Mirosoft Office, is a HD check and replacement.Whatever. They are pushing me to share the password, let's do it. If you have read it till here and you are still thinking what is the problem let me give you a better view:First I'm not questioning how professional is the service center personal, there is no doubt as Lenovo is in charge. When you share your password account you share your access to all the websites you have your password saved or all your encripted information that you could have.It means, you use Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo everyday. LSC keeps giving me an alert that my Norton Antivirus is not active.I click the activate and nothing happenes. My Norton INternet Security Suite is active and working. How do I fix this?

Answer:Lenovo Support Center Ideapad 590

hi frankfallon,
Welcome to Community.
Your problem might be similar to this thread (although this is a different product, same aspects apply).
It's possible that the Lenovo Solutions Center (LSC) is not detecting your Nortorn Internet Security as an antivirus but as a Firewall (compared to Norton Antivirus). You can try to update to the latest LSC but if this doesn't fix it, you can just ignore the message from LSC about the antivirus not being active as the security software is already active.

I have a new Lenovo P50 which was purchased for me by a friend while visiting US. Since the beginning there have been problems with touchpad not working. I took the laptop to Lenovo's authorised service center in Delhi twice, and both times was disappointed because the technician refused to look at the laptop making one excuse or the other. During the first visit, this guy was not sure if P50 was covered under international warrenty in India and wanted me to provide a proof that it was. I got in touch with Lenovo customer support and below is the email response I received. Hi,

This is in response to your request. We want to inform you that all think products come under IWS. So, your product is also under warranty and you will get services in India.

Your system is having carry in warranty, so please go to service center for any services you required.

LenovoI was astonished by this reply, becuase this is something I thought the technician ought to know or could have found out easily without asking me to get this information myself and wasting my entire day. I went to the sevice centre the second time with this email, and this time he drops another set of requirements on me. He wanted the original invoice for the laptop along with a copy of passport of the person whose name is on the invoice, without which he will not even look at the laptop. This laptop was purchased from Amazon US and I had the soft copy of the inovice with me... You need to uninstall Ewido because its no longer available and up to date.
Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%

To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts, the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.

When online at times I've also had firefox help open up in multiple tabs that will keep multiplying unless I close firefox. This even happened in Opera as well. Hi, I have been having problems with the Help and Support Center. First, the Help and Support service wasn't displaying, but I ran a registry fix to correct the problem. Now when I go to Start and click Help and Support Center, nothing happens. I opened up the task manager and what happens is the process "Helpctr.exe" appears, but then it disappears. I have reinstalled Help and Support several times from my Windows disk, but it keeps happening. Any help would be appreciated. My computer specs are in my profile.

Hi. I was wondering if some can give me some info. I am using XP and my Help & Support Center takes 4-5 minutes to open. I can't figure it out. The only thing I tried was defragging and it didn't help. If anyone can give me some suggestions I would really appreciate it.

I bought TPS230U in may2013, and one monthe ago, the laptop just turned off by itself and wont turn on anymore. I had tried troubleshoop refresh and resetting options but it doesnt work.
My warranty certificate is still valid for itnernational support (now I live in Brazil), so that, I called Brazil´s support (My laptop ID is: Type 3347 2GU S/N xxxxxxx 13/02.
At the first time I contacted by phone, the attendant asked me to (once again) turn off the laptop and call back again. Well, I did it, adn (of course) it didnt work. So I called once again. The second the new clerk said I should buy a cd or dvd ( which could not be via USB stick ) , download from other computer and copy an image file that lenovo would understand the problem . I explained that I had not cd to record that moment. But he was very rude, and told me that it the support goes to my house and concludes that there is a software problem and not hardwa, I was supposed to pay for the visit. So, I went to a store and bought a recordable CD , recorded the ISO file and got home to insert it into the laptop and....for my surprise, my laptop doenst have any entry for CD ! I feel that lenovo has been really disrespectfull with me and all I want is to have a simple support to my laptop, but I still couldnt have. Pleaase let me know how can I solve this problem before my waranty term expires!!!

I have a T430s laptop and it is less than 6 months old. It starting getting blue screens within a month of purchasing it. Technical support has been helpless in trying to fix the laptop. First, tech support told me to turn update my computer daily. Then another tech support employee told me to turn OFF my auto updates. This did nothing and over a few weeks the blue screens progressively got worse. Next, tech support told me to run a diagnostic on my computer which turned up nothing. Then, they tried giving me recovery discs and a new hard drive. After that failed they took it in to replace the system board which made the blue screens worse. Then they sent me MORE recovery CDs to try to fix the problem and that also made the blue screens worse. I called tech support after this and they said they would send in a request for a replacement laptop. I was told I would hear from someone in a couple days. FIVE days later I got a called from someone asking if I wanted a replacement and I said yes. Then I was told I had to wait two more business days to get contacted about it. Another 3-4 business days later, someone called me to tell me that they would NOT be replacing the laptop despite the fact tech support could not fix the laptop. After calling tech support once again, I was told that they wanted me to send in my laptop again for up to 7 business days! This is completely unacceptable. I have had problems with this laptop almost the entire time I have owned it and no one knows... Read more

I keep receiving calls from fake MICROSOFT Tech support with various telephone numbers. Strange, they do not show up in my phone on line logs. They wanted me to go to FASTSUPPORT\763721586 ( do not use these numbers). It is a company called they also give you a complaint department where you can enter the number that you feel is causing you problems, the number of the LOGMEINRESCUE type remote access code. of course it is clear to them that you are suspicious and they will get rid of the phone operator who didn't succeed. So do not bother to leave any complaint.

I've got a strange problem I'm having problems troubleshooting. When I search in Help and Support Center, no results are returned for the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I know this worked in the past (though how long ago, I have no idea). The option to search the Knowledge Base is checked. There are no other system problems to indicate corrupt system files. I've searched the web but haven't found anything yet that seems to apply. I'm reluctant to run a full SFC scan or repair the entire Help and Support feature since all other options appear to be working.

Okay, this is just weird....
.... phone rings, call display shows up as UNKNOWN, I was expecting another phone survey or something but before I hang up I figure I'd at least see wgo it is. He asks for me by name then says he's from the "Windows Support Center" or something like that. I can tell he's at a call center in India or something, poor phone connection, I can hear other people in the back ground.

He says our computer is sending out error messages every time we're on the web or something like that, might be from a virus or some kinda windows errors. We have 5 computers, I think I'm clever by asking him which one he's talking about and he replies "the one running Windows 7".

Okay, so I'm skeptical, but figure I'll see where this foes.

So he asks me to run EVENTVWR on that computer which brings up a "even viewer: window, he asks me to look under WINDOWS LOGS - APPLICATIONS and read to him what the sources are, he asks me how many there is etc. I tell them there are hundreds, he asks for the sources and gives me some kinda techno talk as to what's causing that error.
Then he asks what the sources are for the ones marked in yellow as a warning, get more techno talk.

Next he asks me to run WWW.SUPPORT.ME which brings up a "support connection" window "powered byLogMeIn ". It asks for a 6 digit code which he gives me. Now I don't know what to expect, for all I know this will ope... Read more

I can't see any firewall running, unless you're using Windows firewall???Print out these instructions as we will need to close every window that is open later in the fix.Download VundoFix: * Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it. * When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button. * Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button. * You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES * Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo. * When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click theScan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.Post new HJT log.
