Dell Inspiron 660 Sound Issues

Question: Dell Inspiron 660 Sound Issues

I have an Inspiron 660 desktop that I bought about 3.5 years ago. I updated to Windows 10 and have recently started using a Dell U2415 UltraSharp Monitor. The sound bar was working well with the new monitor and desktop until about a week ago I noticed the sound started getting low, then completely out, then came back on like normal. It worked fine for the last week, then it started doing it again today and now completely no sound. I have tried headphones and two different Dell sound bars and the sound doesn't work on any of them. I have looked at settings and device manager and it says the 'Intel (R) Display Audio' is working correctly.
I have looked at different solutions, including downloaded the latest audio (Conexant Smart Audio Driver) and chip driver updates (12/15) and still no luck. Can someone please help?

Preferred Solution: Dell Inspiron 660 Sound Issues

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i have just purchased a DELL Inspiron 15 5000 SERIES - 5559 with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed in Spanish. I have also purchased a DELL 24" additional screen SE2416H.
Whilst watching live internet broadcasts (TV, Youtube etc.) on Chrome, Edge or Firefox, as soon as I connect the screen to the laptop by HDMI cable, the sound on my laptop speakers disappears. Upon disconnection of the HDMI screen cable, the sound re-appears.
However, the sound doesn't disappear when using other sound applications such as Skype.
This means I can't enjoy watching internet TV with sound on the 24" screen.
Please advise how to fix this as the main point of purchasing the 24" screen was precisely to be able to watch (and listen to) TV programs.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 (3147, Mid 2014) makes crackling sound whenever sound is played

lelouIt's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

We are having multiple problems with this computer. We called Dell and they basically said we probably have a virus and they would happily sell us a software support package for $250 a year. Can someone help me check? I ran AVG scan an no virus. I ran Malwarebytes and no virus. I ran SuperAntispyware and there was a lot of spyware that it got rid of. I can't turn the sound on. I can turn on windows defender. I can't open the control panel. I can't delete Windows media player which came with the computer even though it is a 32 bit program put on a 64 bit machine. I can't access the Microsoft Store.

Can anyone help with this pig?

Hello.
On 6/2/16 I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 2-in-1. Just tonight, for some odd reason, it wouldn't turn on at all. It wasn't dead. I had used it throughout the day without any problems (except my wifi saying there weren't any available networks, so I had to restart it which fixed that issue). Don't think they're related, but just putting that out there.
Anyways, after about 20 minutes trying to turn it on, it finally turned out. It was about 50% charged. I take very good care of this laptop and I'm a bit annoyed this happened. Considering I got this not even a month ago, what could cause this? I paid an additional charge for the 2 year warranty, specifically for reasons like this. Should I take it in and have someone check it out, or was this a minor annoyance? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi All,

Thanks for helping!

I have a one year-old Dell Inspiron 546, running on Windows 7. The computer does not wake up properly after the monitor has been shut off. So if I go to bed, leave the computer on and the turn off the monitor; I'll turn the monitor on in the morning, and the background will show up for about a second, then go to the black screen. I have to hit the power button on the computer to turn it off, then again to turn it on. Sometimes, I have to do this twice. It also happens when I shut the computer down completely and boot up. It's really annoying! So is there something I need to do to fix the wake-up process?

Also, it may be related to a problem I had with security programs (both McAfee and Norton), in which the computer would not boot up at all when I had one of those programs installed, so my computer is currently defenseless. The computer wouldn't get through the Microsoft 7 intro page, before getting fuzzy and going to the log-in issues (i.e. "safe mode") page.

Any suggestions?

My laptop crashed last month and would not boot up since then. I kept getting an error message that said "missing ntldr" or something like that. So I dug up my old XP Pro disc and tried to repair but was unsuccessful. So I reinstalled and chose the option to leave my memory unchanged. So now it starts and my memory is still there under my old Administrator name but nothing is active. None of my old programs, drivers, or software will operate. Is there a way to restore any of that to work right again without reinstalling everything?

This is my fault but what happened is I have this Dell laptop and one day I was board so I thought what better to do then rip it apart and see whats in there. I did just this and put it all back together or so I thought. When I turn the laptop back on the caps lock light flashes 9 or 10 times and the system never boots up. I am pretty sure that this light is flashing to tell me where I messed up but I can't find my answer anywhere. I was hoping someone knew the dell site a bit better then I do and could help me find the answer to my small but painful issue.

Thanks Ben

I have a Dell Inspiron 1440.

One day I made the mistake of allowing my mom to use it even though she is the most technologically impaired person I know, but hey I still love her. She made the mistake of falling asleep and leaving my laptop on the floor I believe the operating system became corrupted because the laptop was left on carpet for a good 8 hours . My laptop then was unable to boot up. However, I solved my issues with my laptop by reinstalling windows 7. I am took the time to write about this because I am not sure if it may or may not be related to my current issues.

Since then I have had numerous issues. About a week after reinstalling windows for the first time I was no longer able to click any program. I would wait one hour after clicking an icon or running an .exe file but nothing happened. I could not start any programs. I restored my computer then had no issues again. The time I had with a working laptop was transient. Now my computer will not start up. If I attempt to start windows normally the windows 7 is loading screen shows up, but almost immediately after a blue screen flashes. It flashes so fast that I can never find out what the error message is. I attempted to launch start up repair next, but the blue screen where it usually says "Startup is loading" was idle for at least 30 minutes. (Not to be confused with the blue screen of death). Lastly I attempted to reinstall windows again, but this time the blue screen with "startup is loading... Read more

Hello all.

A Dell 510m purchased from ebay has come into my hands... and I am having some very troubled times with it.

I have read through the forums and the shorting method has worked perfectly to bypass the Bios password. However... it is now the HDD password I am stuck with.

I do not care about the original hard drive.

I purchased a brand new Seagate ST96812A 60GB hard drive..... and the system stopped asking for a password. However... the system lets you partition the drive but thats it!

If I use a tool such as MHDD or HDDErase.... they both tell me that the drive is not locked, but is in a "Frozen" status. I also have two 10gb HDD's which both have the same problem when inserted into the laptop... but are fine in others.

When you go into the BIOS with any of these drives installed.. it reports back that the HDD password is indeed disabled. Setting a password and removing it has no effect on the problem.

Can anyone assist with this problem?

Cheers!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 510m Issues

Hi

When you shorted the password out, did you then run the DST software on my site to reenable the service tag?

If not then the chip that hold the passwords is not in a normal state and if their was also a locked HD then you will get this problem.

Download the DST software from my site

www.ihatedell.info

Either use the floppy or the CD ISO and run it on the machine, you would also be best flashing the BIOS to the latest version, if it already has the latest version then just flash over it with the same version.

Hello there. My sister recieved a Dell Inspiron 1100 for her graduation about four years ago and she's having problems with it after never mistreating it noticably. M'kay... the problem is that when the laptop is turned on and she attempts to put in her password to get on her computer the keyboard seems to recieve input from nowhere. No keys are being pressed, yet the text box for her password is automatically filled and it won't recognize any keys when they are actually pressed. Also, the mouse seems to do about the same... It won't be touched and it would creep up the screen or disappear completely. There are other times when her laptop won't even give a visual what-so-ever.

If anyone knows of anything that can be done I'd really appreciate any helpful advice.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1100 issues...

Hi there. you dont say whether this happens at windows logon or whether it is a system (bios based) logon. but anyway it sounds to me like virus activity and you should run a virus recovery program that boots from from a CD and then when you get the system started run a full system scan with updated antivirus software.

I have had my dell for approx 3 years now and the other day my sound suddenly stopped working (no sound from ear plugs either). I restarted the computer and it made no difference. I can't play any sounds (no sound when the comp turns on, no sound on itunes, "Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration,"Youtube etc etc you get the picture.

I found some solutions online but none of the settings seem to have changed when I attempted to change them. So I went into safe mode and the speaker icon on the bottom right hand corner has a cross on it indicating that there is no sound (there was nothing of the sort when i wasn't in safe mode) I looked for solutions online and went into Services > Windows Audio to press START and the following came up "Windows could not start the windows audio service on local computer error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start."

I have also tried system restore, but am unable to do so and the following appears "No restore systems have been created on your computer's system disk."

Please someone help, thank you in advance

The first thing I would recommend would be go to dell's site and download the audio drivers for your machine

install them and see if that fixes the issue

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop with keyboard issues. Sometimes, not always, when I strike a key it will post that key and other keys (usually just one) that are next to it on the keyboard. Also if I hit a "}" it will display one and if I try to hit the same key again it will just give me periods. Also if I strike the backspace key it will fill in the time and date minus the last character of the year. I have replaced the keyboard and am getting the same errors. Hey all,
I had been battling with the camera on my new Dell Inspiron 15.

Originally I thought that it was not functioning at all. Then I discovered that it was simply not adjusting for light. If you are not sure, turn your webcam on and shine a light into it. If we are experiencing the same issue, you should be able to see nothing but the light you are shining into the camrea. I tried deleting the drivers then reinstalling them again. That worked for a while, but was not a permanent fix.
Recently I decided to try some unorthodoxed changes.
My Camera uses two different drivers: one is Realsense RGB and Realsense Depth. I'm not genius, but I'm assuming RGB is normal vid and Depth is for the 3D scanning feature.

MY SOLUTION:
I disabled the depth driver. It has only been a day, but camera has been wokring in all applications. Since I never use the 3d scan tool, I'm not missing anything at all.

To disable it follow these steps
On windows 10:
Start > in the search bar search for device manager > open device manager > imaging devices

Now you want to right click  on the driver labeled " Intel (R) RealSense(TM) 3D Camera (Front F200) Depth) and choose Disable. The computer will prompt you to restart. Do it.
When the system boots up again, try using your webcam in some apps! My main apps are Skype and the Dell webcam central.
Hope this solutions works for some of you out there!

Tried booting computer yesterday, would keep rebooting itself.
Tried going on safe mode, would get blank windows screen and that's it.
Ran startup hard drive test got this error:
Error code: 2000-0146.
Indicated that the hard drive had failed.
Removed hard drive and put it back in to see if that was the problem.
That didn't work so tried using the burned repair disk when first getting computer.
(Windows 7, 64 bit)
Got the windows safe mode screen again only this time with this error
Error 0x4001100200001012
Googled it and it says that the high speed of the disk makes it unreadable.
Returned a new repair disk to see if that works, but got same result.
What should I do now going forward or is my laptop essentially trash?

Hello Dell,
I have a Dell Inspiron 3668 with Waves Maxx Audio Pro installed.  I have been trying to figure out how to get RID of the echo/reverb sound that spews forth from my speakers.  I've been reading everyone else's post about the same stuff and the only answer that seems to be given is to uninstall and then re-download the realtek drivers and I think reinstall Waves Maxx Pro.  My question is this: can we dispense with all the install and uninstalls and use something else?  I have no idea what else to use, but the last time I bought a Dell computer I used Turtle Beach soundcard and software, maybe this is an option.  I despise the sound that my speakers are making at this moment.  There has to be some other software that can be used since it appears that realtek and maxx audio pro are fighting each other.  Come on guys, most of us WANT a positive music experience with our computers and I am one of them. Figure something else out for us.....

Sign me Completely DISAPPOINTED....

Answer:HELP Us Out with These Dell Inspiron 3668 Audio Issues

All we can do is report the issues and wait for them to update the drivers and software. But, I would never use the integrated audio card. I would install a good discrete audio card that will provide a better sound. The Inspiron 3668 motherboard has two PCIe x1 slots (15 and 16 below) =

You could disable the onboard Realtek ALC3820 audio in the BIOS and install a discrete PCIe x1 sound card. Here is one from Creative for $37. Or check your local PC store for one.

This is a new PC. 2 weeks old at longest.

2-3 times has not come out of sleep. Have had to hold power button to power down. It has come back up seemingly fine. The last issue was, i actually tried to shut it down myself after working on it. It seemed to be working fine and shutting down ok. Got a message saying "to save your work click cancel and go back". I hit cancel to see if there were anything needing to be saved or stopped. Instead, i got a second message stating, "Shut down blocked". Then seemed to have froze. I shut it down holding the power button. Upon start up, it gave me the option to check windows repair, or something like that. I went ahead and ran it and it said, windows repair could not repair your PC. I went and ahead and started it up normally, i noticed that Firefox tried to recover the previous sessions. I have noticed firefox crashing a few times as well.

I ran Malwarebytes threat scan, no issues. I checked malware bytes reports and noticed there were two websites blocked recently, WWW.CONVERTPDFSNOW.COM. Which i do not recall using, will have to ask my daughter if she was trying to use that.

I thought it was unusual for the new PC to not come out of sleep mode so many times now.

Hello, thank you for using your time to view this thread.

Anyway, I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3531 Laptop. The problem listed below.
When the A/C Adapter ONLY IS ATTACHED (BATTERY REMOVED):
When I press the power button, the battery light blinks once, screen stays black. I can hear the hard drive turn on and spin at normal speed. Then one minute later the laptop will shut down.

Now, it does different with the BATTERY ONLY ATTACHED:
If the battery is in the laptop, I press the power button, and nothing happens. The battery light stays white. I don't hear the hard drive spinning.

Whats going on here? The laptop is out of Warranty. Re-seating RAM does not work, nor does holding the power button down for 15 seconds.

About a week ago I experienced issues with my Dell Inspiron M731R laptop.  There were several occasions where it refused to charge while powered on and would only charge when it was completely shut off.  This continued for around two days, then it gave me no trouble. Last night I had the issue again, so I shut off my laptop so it would charge. I had it plugged in for at least six hours, but when I powered it on this morning it said my laptop was at 6% and shut off quickly after everything booted up. I have tried several different chargers and the same thing keeps happening, and the chargers all work for my friends who have the same kind of laptop as me. The laptop will not even turn on now. It's completely shut off, yet the light that says that it's charging is on and flickers from time to time. I've had this laptop for about four years and I got a new battery for it around two months ago. The first two days when this began happening I checked everything on my laptop and it all said that my battery was working normally. I'm unsure of what the problem is, help?

Answer:Charging Issues With Dell Inspiron M731R

Unplug the system, remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Verify that the LED on the AC adapter is ON before you connect the notebook to it.  If it's not, the adapter is bad.
If the adapter is OK, try powering up with no battery. If it will, but won't with the battery installed, the battery is bad.
If it still won't power up, the mainboard is bad -  given the age and low-end nature of the system, repair is likely not economically favorable.  Start shopping for a replacement system.

This is going to be quite a long description. Flashback to about a year ago. My son and I were trying to hook up his computer to a dell external monitor. It only provides hdmi output, but we had a USB to the phone line thing. We thought we could hook it up by connecting the computer to the monitor with the phone line port in the computer to the USB port on the monitor. MAJOR MISTAKE. The whole computer when black. The screen wasn't lit, but the power indicator was on. Nothing else. We ended up fixing it, but don't know how anymore. Before we did this, on startup, we saw the black screen with Dell Inspiron on it. Afterwards, all i see is lines on the screen.
Now fast forward to now. Recently (last 8 months) when I turn on the computer, I get the lines on the screen and I hear this beeping. (Accidently happened in a library. Librarian thought I had a bomb or something) I was able to fix it by connecting the computer into a external screen by the hdmi. The screen would then light up.
Then a couple hours ago, all *** broke loose. I went into my room, hit the power button and got a response of the same lines on the screen, but a beeping. But then I noticed several more but different now green colored lines on the left side of my screen. I took it to my tv thinking that would fix it and got the computer screen up on the t.v. But not on my pc. Still beeping and not lightning up. I looked up on the internet some solutions and I descided to boot my computer in safe mode by usi... Read more

I'm working with an inspiron 1420 which won't display anything on the screen. I connected it to a monitor and am able to see the dell media home loading screen, shortly after I get a BSOD for nv4_disp getting stuck in an infinite loop.

I attempted to get into safe mode, and while displaying the safe mode options, the entire screen is covered in ||||||'s. Selecting safe mode results in another BSOD with just a STOP error.

I suspect the main board, but I wanted to get a second opinion before ordering the part. It's out of warranty, and the guy wants to get it back up and running as a spare.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1420 display issues.

Hit F2 as it's booting to enter the bios, navigate the bios and check for artifacts such as the lines, check all the fans are running, clean out all the fans.

Nothing is displayed on the screen at all,it stays black at all times?

Try unhooking the screen first it may have died which could be causing the BSOD then try to boot, this can be a pretty big job,so can changing a motherboard on a laptop,if you haven't done it before your in for a treat:-D

I have been up for 14 hours working on this issue, and I am almost to the point of tears now.

I reset my Dell Inspiron 570 to Factory Settings, and the Ethernet controller needed a driver, so I installed the proper driver & chipset, and tried over, and over, and over. Nothing worked, the card is enabled in the Bios, I have tried over 10 different drivers, I have tried everything I can think of.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 570 - Ethernet Card Issues

Always include the version of Windows in your posts.
Exactly what symptoms are you seeing?
Did you install the chipset driver(s) before you installed the network driver? Unless the chipset is installed first, other drivers may not install or may not work. And if you've installed 10 different drivers, you probably created a mess.
Did you check the Ethernet link status LEDs on rear of the PC?
Did you run the Windows Network setup utility to create the network after installing the drivers? Did you try rebooting the modem and/or router after installing the drivers on the PC?
And just to be clear, you're using a wired connection to your modem or router, not a WiFi connection...?

Dear Support Team,
Having a dell-inspiron 3537 recently we are facing the below mentioned issues,
1. The system some time is powering up and some time is not powering up.
2. For powering up we need to press & hold the power button for multiple times then it will powerup.
3. If we try to restart also the same issue happening. Again and again we need to press the power button to power up.
4. At this time power indicator light is glowing, Exhaust fan working.
5. Tried dell diagnostics too no error was found.
kindly help us to resolve the same.

Answer:Dell-Inspiron 3537-Booting up issues

This is usually caused by a bad cold solder joint on the mainboard -- eventually, the system will fail to power on at all.  The mainboard needs to be replaced -- if the system is under warranty, contact Dell.
If the system is out of warranty, you're looking at $250-350 just for the board, plus labor -- on a three year old system, you may be better off replacing rather than repairing the system.

Hi,

So she said today, she was deleting some mp3s and then the screen just went black. So she turned the device off, then back on. The fans and blue power light will turn on with the device, but the display is still off. Any ideas or insight would be highly appreciated

Hi,

I own a Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop that is roughly 7 years old. The laptop has begun to give me some trouble. Certain keys such as the letters B,N, the arrow keys and space bar do not work, and I have had to purchase an external keyboard as a workaround. The charging adapter isn't working either; there is no problem with the battery, as I was able to charge it using a Dell Latitude 7240 adapter. I tried purchasing a new 1440 charger, but the issue still persists. I'm suspecting that there's something wrong with the charging port. I also read elsewhere that it might be an issue with the motherboard as well. Can someone please help me identify what might be wrong with my system?

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I have a Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 bought in 2014
Running Windows 10, 8GB of RAM, 1TB of HDD
Bios (DELL Inc A08 4/30/2014
Bios mode UEFI (secure boot deactivated)
For the last 2-3 weeks my laptop has boot issues. From a regular start or a reboot!
It can take 30 secs to see the DELL logo up to 2-3 hours... YES up to 2 or 3 hours before the DELL logo appears. In average I would say 25 to 45 mins before the DELL logo appears. After when the DELL logo appears it boots correctly in Windows 10 and the laptop does not look to have any performance issues.
All of this started when the DELL system detected that newer hardware drives were available and a newer BIOS A09.

Installation of the new drivers for the hardware were completed without any issue. Laptop rebooted and final confirmation was given that new drivers were installed successfully.
Then I did the BIOS. The EXE started... showed me on the screen that my current bios was A08 and that the new one to be installed was A09. A command prompt window opened requesting asking if I wanted to proceed and type Y. Saw a % on the screen of the "flash" process and then the laptop rebooted. And I waited... and waited... more than 1 hour and still nothing. Blank screen. Power light on... HD light flickered and stopped. I waited 30 more minutes and I pressed the power button. Laptop powered of and I restarted it. Since then you don’t know when the laptop will boot. I tried to redo the bios update. Even re-installed Windows. C... Read more

Alright, so ...

I use a Logitech Quickcam for internet video-calls and the like... The problem is that when I talk, my computer automatically drops its volume while its receiving my voice/any noise, and then automatically restores it to a normal level when I stop talking/things get quiet.

I uninstalled Dell Quickset which I thought was the problem, but it still does it, just now without the Quickset window opening up all the time. Dunno if its with the webcam, the laptop, or the tango between the two...

Ok not sure if this is a hardware or software issue but ill try here. My laptop suddenly shut down yesterday while listening to some music and possibly downloading a few files. Wheb I tried to start-up I got to the windows boot screen and it would shut down from there. I left it on a memory diognostic and came back to it frozen, rebooted and choose to boot log on startup up until failure (already tried safe mode). Somehow the laptop started but was very slow and when I put a flash drive in it shut down. Tried a normal boot and it worked but again Windows.7 was slow. Also, my fan was not working the first time I got into windows but on the 2nd boot I was scanning for virus's and the fan suddenly came on and is now consistenly blasting despite it being cool. I have it on a cooling pad so the fan should not be on. Lot of information. Any help is appreciated. Don't know if its a virus/spyware or hardware issues, maybe bios or something...

My Dell 1150 has always had some problems. First, it would over-heat and shut down, and it did this only after having it for around a year. I fixed to over-heating issue by taking out the heat sink and fan and blowing all the dust away with a can of compressed air, and also using a chill mat to set my laptop on. Now, about a month ago the power lights on my computer began flickering on and off. To fix this problem I would fiddle with the ac adapter power cord until the lights stayed on. The problem began to to the point that when the Ac Adapter was plugged in it wouldnt charge the computer at all. So, I thought this was a power adapter problem and I bought a new one but I still have the same problem. The battery will charge if I put enough pressure on the plug into the socket on the back of my computer but thats the only way it will work.

Anyway, what im thinking is that the previous over-heating has ruined the socket where the ac adapter plugs into the computer. Could this be possible? Is it easy to fix? Suggestions?

It's rly funny because dell leave users of older laptops because they no have profits for that. The warranty is over so bye :) Someone can help me?

Answer:Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10

Warning to anyone reading this thread:
Make sure you know your model name before installing a driver!
The subject of this thread is "Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10". The problem is that there is no model with that exact name. There is an Inspiron 15 N5010, and an Inspiron 15R N5110.
They are different models and use different drivers. In other words, the audio driver for the N5010 is not meant for the N5110, and vice versa.
To complicate matters, somebody named aimeehuang posted in this thread and put in a link named "dell 15r n5010 drivers download". But if you click on the link it goes to a page for Inspiron 15R N5110.The person named "aimeehuang" is not a regular on this discussion board and probably got the model names confused.
Check your model name. If you have an Inspiron 15 N5010, use the IDT R280657 audio driver. It is meant for Win7, so install it into Win10 using compatibility mode (instructions below).
If you have an Inspiron 15R N5110, use the IDT 6.10.0.6421 audio driver. It is meant for Windows 8. It might install without a problem into Win10, but if there is a problem, install it using compatibility mode (instructions below).
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive..2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write... Read more

Now, this proves to be an elusive solution. Even when I first had to worry about this back about a year ago. Unfortunately I cannot find the answer anymore.

I was unfortunately put into a situation in which I had to get Vista on my computer (I for some reason didn't even think to set up a dual-partition) which is the Inspiron 6000 by Dell. With the Sigmatel C-Major Audio card there don't seem to be any primary drivers that work with Vista. I know there is a third party one out there somewhere, however I have had no luck. Does anyone happen to have a solution to this? It is driving me mad.

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7537 i7-4510U, 16.6" Touch. It had Windows 8.1 in it.
It has been working great so far, apart from one BIG problem - the audio playback quality is terrible.
When I try listening to music, I can barely hear any low-ends (or bass). I tried different plugging different equipment - my Sony stereo system, as well as, Beats Pro headphones - both yielded dissapointing results. For example, the same file played on my iPod sounds MUCH better than it does on my new Dell Inspiron. Same goes for playing the same YouTube video on another computer using the same headphones. It seems that every other equipment (another laptop, iPod, iPhone) all sound the same and much better my Inspiron.
The audio drivers are up to date (they were selected automatically based on my model on dell.com). I also tried changing Equalizers on the Realtek sound card settings. I noticed the difference, but all of the options still resulted in a vastly inferior sound quality vs. my older laptop (which I'm pretty sure has default settings, as I never had any problem with audio quality).
Does anyone have any idea how can I fix the issue? I heard Windows 8.1 on some laptops may have some problems with low-end sound, could that be the case? My older laptop also uses Windows 8.1, as does the stationary PC, so I personally doubt it. Is it possible that this could be a manufacturing defect on the sound card?
Any ideas how can I fix the sound quality are much ... Read more

Answer:Bad sound quality - Dell Inspiron 15 77537

Hello. Try switching to the Windows native audio driver:
1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and 6.]
If there is still no bass then it could be a hardware problem and for that you should contact tech support. Make sure that the eq in your music player (i.e. Windows Media Player) is set to normal. Also when comparing to other playback devices, all of their eq and other enhancements should be set to flat, to try to compare apples to apples as much as possible.

I'm working on an inspiron 6000 and it doesn't have audio. I reinstalled the audio drivers (sigmatel STAC 975X AC97) and it worked fine. Sent the customer home with it fixed. She called an hour later and said there is no sound. I confirmed with her that it wasn't muted or something dumb like that. She brings it back and sure enough there is no audio. The device shows up in device manager like it should, no yellow ? or anything like that. I re-reinstalled the audio driver again and it worked fine......until i did a reboot.

Any Ideas why it seems to fail over and over after reboots???

Answer:No sound on Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop help

I have had similar problems. First things is older laptops will be slower and the clock rates inside are slower and the software is getting mor demanding on speed.I would recommend reinstalling XP (I assume it's this) to clean everything out). You should have the DELL discs, if not get them from DELL. Make sure you extract all Keys from the laptop first so the reinstall is legit and you can get all the updates (SP3 etc).If you don't want to do that get the audio driver from DELL (that's what I did on the same laptop some time ago).I would not think the laptop can be upgraded to Vista (too slow) but you may consider Ubuntu as an alternative (may not be quicker but just a thought).Google your problems and you should get answers for a common laptop such as that one.

No sound from Windows Media, no system sounds, nothing. When I plug the headphones in all I get is a fuzzing noise with an occasional feint bleep.

Ive gone through XP's 'troubleshooting' thing: there is no conflicts or anything like that, all the hardware is there. I had no problems with sound prior to this evening.

I know it's vague, but thats pretty much the gist of it. I cant think of any reason why the sound has just...stopped working. My only guess is that the machine has taken a bump and somethings become dislodged internally or something, because I cant find fault with any hardware. But I know comparitively little about computers.

I will ring dell in a few days time as I should imagine their officers will be closed, so until then, Id just like a second opinion if possible.

Edit/Update:

Well...

I turned the laptop off for the night. Then remembered I needed to transfer some files over onto my other PC (music files etc.), then suddenly the sound came back on my laptop!

I have brand new a Dell Inspiron 7559 (Core i5 model) which i received 2 days ago.  The inbuilt speakers work fine. But when I plug in my earphones, the is sound only on the left side and a very faint sound on the right one. When I check the left and right sound in the sound properties, both the test sounds appear on the left side only. The earphones I am using are Klipsch R6. And here are no issues with the earphones since they work perfectly with my phone and other Dell Inspiron laptop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:No sound suddenly on my dell inspiron 1545

The internal laptop speakers are INOP?

Go into Device Manager, expand "Sound..." and uninstall ALL devices.

Reboot the system.

Check audio.

Update drivers - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19

Is Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed?

Hi all
Just done a fresh install of XP Pro, now no sound, no startup/shutdown music. The sound card is OK, the speakers are working as the error bleeps etc are making there sounds. Any ideas please?
Thanks
Neil.

Answer:No sound from Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop

It sounds like you haven't installed the sound/audio drivers, which aren't part of XP and which you should be able to get from the Dell website. There may be other drivers you need to install too - look in Device Manager for yellow exclamation marks.

I just received this computer in the last couple of weeks.  The bass and lower end frequencies sound really really bad on this system.  I thought it was a problem with the internal speakers but I just tried a set of tried and true external speakers and they sound exactly the same.  Mid and upper range frequencies are nice and clear but anything low sound muffled and clipped.  I've played with all the various settings and tried different EQ settings - nothing.  Anyone else have this issue and know a fix?

Answer:Dell Inspiron One All-in-one computer sound is awful

That is unusual. The sound out of the audio jacks should not be affected by any internal processing unless you specifically enable it.  Here are a couple of things to try.
1) Disable all of the THX sound features. You have to disable them all one by one.  See if that changes the sound output
2) Disable all Realtek sound effects in their control panel (EQ, reverbs). See if that changes anything.
3) Finally, disable al audio enhancements in the Windows audio control panels. This can be done by right clicking on the Windows speaker in systray, select Playback devices, double click on the Speakers or Line Out/Headphone Out bar in the list, select the Enhancements tab, and click on the "Disable all enhancements." NOTE: this is very literal. It will disable all of the audio effects on that output device including the two items listed above. It basically forces the driver to stop doing any extra stuff it was doing before.
If you do resort to step 3, you will need to be careful with playing back audio on the internal speakers. Sometimes there are Equalization and filter settings to help protect the speakers inside the system.

I have an N5110 Inspiron. I bought it around 6 years ago. It had a faulty HDD so I had it replaced about 5.5 years ago. It has been working fine since then.
However, it has been making a weird clicking sound from the beginning. It usually occurs when the HDD is idle (the HDD led isn't on). Sometimes it doesn't happen for minutes whereas other times it happens a couple of seconds apart. I was wondering what could this be?
My laptop is getting quite old and currently, I cannot replace it so I want to keep it functional as long as possible. Could this clicking reduce the life-expectancy of my HDD, is it a sign of something faulty? If yes, what can I do to prevent an HDD failure and losing all my files?

Answer:Dell N5110 Inspiron HDD clicking sound

They don't call it click death for nothing.  The drive is trying to recalibrate track zero and isnt finding it. So the drive is likely to die very soon and lose everything.  Drives die, this isn't a fault anymore than the brakes on your car or other mechanical things like tires wearing out from use.

Can anyone help here?

I got a Dell Inspiron 1525 back in September. Runs on Vista.

A few weeks ago, I began noticing a crackling sound that was coming from the top left hand corner of the keyboard section of the laptop, right near where the 'Inspiron' logo is. It doesn't usually start until I've had the computer running for 30 minutes or so.

I called Dell and shipped the computer to their facility since it's still under warranty. They sent it back saying that they could not detect any problem with any of the hardware and therefore, did not fix anything. Sure enough, after getting it back and turning it on and being on it for 30 minutes or so, the sound is still there.

Everything about the computer works fine...the Internet, my progams. It isn't slow or anything. But this sound just doesn't sound right.

Does anyone have any ideas what this may be? Could it be an issue with the laptop's fans? If so, aren't the fans considered to be part of the hardware?

Thanks for any light anyone may be able to shed on this issue.

- Brian

Answer:Crackling Sound From Dell Inspiron 1525

Is laptop staying cool or did you try to update your wireless/network card? When you listening music can you check CPU usage and temperature (with temp additional program) under task manager. Also, CPU fan is not making that noise.

Hi guys,
I've had my Dell Inspiron 660 since late 2012. Really happy with it. This model has the big casing, with i5 3330 and 8GB RAM.
I've never altered components or over clocked anything. I only switched out the OEM GT620 in 2014 for a GTX 750. No issues with my PC whatsoever.
My question is simple. I'm looking to upgrade my GPU, and need a PSU upgrade as such. Will there be any issues if I were to upgrade my PSU with an EVGA B1 600W, and get the GTX 960 with it?
Do I need to drill holes for the PSU, make adjustments, update BIOS settings etc? Is it as simple and taking out and putting the new PSU in, or must I do some other stuff as well?
Thanks! Appreciate any and all responses.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 660 - Any issues if upgrading PSU to EVGA B1 600W and a GTX 960?

Hello Niki,
In looking at the 660 Owner Manual - http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/inspiron-660_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.pdf - it seems the case is a standard ATX design - meaning that the PSU you are looking at should be fine. In some rare cases, depending on the PSU design, some of the screw holes might be slightly off but you'll always be able to line up two screws, at least (which is really all you need).
Generally speaking, BIOS updates on a desktop are only needed if Dell identifies a problem they need to address or to add support with newer CPUs.
The only real tricky part about replacing the PSU is cable management.  Trace where your current cables are going to & once you've got the new PSU in, go through and wrap up the unused cables using a rubber band or large cable tie to keep them clear of blocking air flow.
And don't be like me and forget to connect the 6-pin rail to the GTX960 after you get it installed! (I have a 960 myself & I'm quite happy with it.)
Hope this helps!

Let me start out by saying I am no way computer savvy!
I've read that Inspirons are notorious for having overheating issues. Mine is no acception. It normally would overheat and shut down on me. After cooling off it would boot back up when I turned it on.
Well, yesterday it booted up without any display. The screen was black. I turned it off and tried again. Same thing. I connected an external monitor. No change. I took out the fan and heat sink (read up on how to do that). Blew out 2 massive dust bunnies (should have done that months ago). Turned it on...no change on internal or external monitors. I did hit F8 when I connected the external.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what my next step should be?
I re-posted my issue in this forum. I posted it earlier under the wrong forum. I hope this is the right one.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1100 No display - overheating issues

A friend and I purchased Dell Inspiron 15 5547 in August 2015 together. Within 5 months my friend's laptop's hinge got broken. Since it was in warranty Dell replaced it in 2 weeks. I didn't face any issue then. But since past few months I noticed a click sound when opening or closing the laptop. It didn't take time to figure out the right hinge of the laptop was defective and because of that the area near power button started popping out. I read several posts on similar issues with this laptop and was wondering if Dell will replace and fix it because of the manufacturing defect. The laptop is about 2 years old now. I'm currently using a paper clip to keep the things in place and not break it.

So those of you who picked up a 7577 recently may have noticed that although its an awesome laptop,
holy moly, the audio drivers are a mess
So, here's how to make them a bit less of a mess

So if you do not use an external mic with your laptop, and get the audio freezing issue, I've found that uninstalling the realtek audio drivers that come with the laptop and installing the ones directly from realteks website solve this issue.
While this solves the problem, it makes it impossible to change how windows treats the mic/headphone combo jack, disabling the ability to use an external mic.
If you do use an external mic, then try installing Peter's Equalizer APO and then installing the Peace Extention for it. This takes control of the audio and removes both the freezing issue, and the odd impermissible echo that doesn't go away even when you disable all the "features" in Waves MaxxAudio Pro.
(Please dell make a way to completely disable all the effects from MaxxAudio Pro or remove it altogether and just use realteks drivers)

If anyone is reading this debating to buy the laptop or not, its still an awesome laptop, its just newer and still needs some software tweaks from Dell. Dont let this discourage you :)

I'm facing a peculiar issue with my Dell Inspiron 7560 laptop. When I start the laptop without the charger plugged in and press the power button, the laptop starts normally. However when I plug in the charger and then try to start the laptop by pressing the power button, the laptop simply won't start. It starts fine when the charger is not plugged in but when the charger is Connected , it won't start.
I have checked the charger and the same works fine after starting the laptop. The charger also passed the tests in pre boot diagnostics. I tried connecting from different wall outlets, still won't work.
The laptop is only a week old and this is the first time I'm seeing such an issue . I have also tried the "wake on AC charger " option in BIOS. So the laptop starts when i simply plug in the charger and the power button is no required .
So is it some issue with the charger or the motherboard or could be some loose connection inside the laptop. Kindly help if someone else experienced similar problems.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 3521 nearly a year ago. Few weeks back, my touch screen stopped responding. I, having some basic knowledge in computers, tried everything that i could to make it work again, but sadly, haven't been able to kill an ant in the matter.
My System Specifications are:
Model No: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3521 - Touch
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3337U CPU @1.8Ghz
RAM: 4GB
Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit
Video Cards: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 & AMD Radeon HD 8730M
Things I've tried already:
1. Refreshing PC back to Windows 8.
2. Updating all drivers and Windows Updates.
3. Updating to Windows 8.1 again.
4. All windows updates again.
5. Rechecked if any driver update was missing today.(No there is no driver updates for me currently)
Additional Details:
1. There is no Tablet PC settings in Control Panel since i refreshed. (Didn't check if it was before, but it sure would have been there.)
2. There is no Tablet PC Components or any similar thing in add features to windows.
3. There is no Touch Screen compliant device in HID or Mice or other Pointing Device in the  device manager.
4. I have the Intel HM77 driver and the latest BIOS running as suggested by the experts on other threads.
If anyone has any other ideas, please help.
Thank You!

Can you check the touch feature outside the OS.
Run a hardware diagnostics by tapping F12 on the start up Dell logo, Select diagnostics from the list, Once the test is done, use the touch input to select the components on the left pane.
Check if that works & let us know.

Hi guys, I've been using Unified Remote on my Android phone to use my laptop for a while now. I recently just learned about the Wake On Lan feature and it is something I'd really like to see working (what's the point of remote control if I still have to get up to turn on my laptop!)

I've been trying to follow the directions and setting up my Power Management options in my BIOS, however I've run into some issues. First of all, when I go into my BIOS settings, there isn't even an option for Power Management or the like in order to set remote wakeup. So I don't even know where to proceed from here.

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 with the A11 BIOS. I'm running Windows 8 64-bit.

I'd be more than happy to provide any additional details and even pictures of my BIOS screen options if my description isn't clear enough.

Thank you!

What directions? How do you know that any change is needed or possible in the BIOS?

I probably shouldn't be posting here, as I have never used WOL, but I thought it was just a matter of enabling the feature in the Properties of the adapter (in Device Manager). It does make sense that it could be an item in the BIOS; I just don't recall ever reading that anywhere.

Hi- I have the Inspiron 1545. There is an issue with the screen. It has to be pivoted a certain way for the image to be clear. At certain angles and sometimes spontaneously, it freezes and slowly takes on a gray-white appearance with horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen. Bump it or re-position it, the screen image becomes clear again and you are back in action. It seams this is an issue with the laptop and not the software or anything. Is there a fix for this problem that someone is willing to share?

I tried to run dell diagnostic tools but  all the results are shown as  "passed" (how could it happen??..) and i thought it might be due to driver issues and tried to re-install the wifi drivers . to my surprise , i couldn't  find any drivers in the dell site and  after performing "detect service tag for driver update."..it says drivers are upto date.

Again on august 1st...a menu popped  up on my laptop saying ...your laptop  is good to upgrade as  DELL team tested and no sign of any issues..bla bla. I thought may be this time the upgrade may work and updated my OS..and again disappointed to notice that wifi failed to detect in windows 10.So .left  with no option..i tried  "Reset" option in windows 10 for clean install .

This time wifi worked and i am happy and  "sound" failed to detect. Again ran all those dell diagnostics...all the results show "passed" . Tried to download dell sound drivers.. from dell site but i could not see anything in the site

Does anyone's 3147 (N3530) get hot? I use it while sitting on my lap and though at first the heat didn't bother me, but now its seems bothersome. I upgraded the machine to Crucial Ballistix 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800), 1.35v Laptop Memory and a 250 EVO SSD. I check the temps with HWMonitor and the hottest I've seen anything get to is 67 degrees Celsius. Everything is normally in the high 50s.Has anyone done a thermal re paste? I do have some IC Diamond laying around. Not sure if it would make a difference.
Video stream shuttering happens quite a bit. Any suggestions?
And does anyone else have issues with getting the bottom cover flush when putting back on (by the power button)? The corner seems to protrude a little.

Thank in advance! I tried to get all my questions in one post.

Thanks for reading my post!!

College son dropped off the laptop (xp media edition) saying since he dropped it, it hasn't booted up. Testing reveals the laptops boots to various points and hangs. Once I got into the bios and it froze. mostly it hangs before bios (set up) or boot menu. But its strange inconsistant.

Its also hung on DOS screen 'battery cannot be identified System will be unable to charge' and also some Broadcom/ PXE messages.

I've tested the power supply (cord and adapter) and it works on another pc. I haven't checked the hard drive.

My research has found some sketchy information indicating this laptop has problems with the power connector on the chassis. This makes a little since since he dropped the computer (and possibly damaged this part).

Does anyone have some information to share conserning the power connection issue for Dell 1501's? Could the above symptoms be related to power?

Thanks again.

First post. Hi all!

Been trying to fix a laptop for a friend the past week & it's driven me nuts. It had no internet connection due to winsock corruption but no matter what i did i couldn't get the headings down to 10 in msinfo32 -> Components -> Network -> Protocol.

Gave up & reinstalled a new XP Media Centre OS profile from the installation cd so that it gives them the option of using the old OS profile to use files & new one for internet access. After installing the drivers I'm now getting a yellow question mark in Device Manager beside Other devices & yellow question mark with a yellow exclamation mark inside it beside the following:

Base System Device

Base System Device

Base System Device

PCI Device

SM Bus Controller

Video Controller

Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

When i check msinfo32 -> Components -> Network -> Protocol i'm getting 16 headings, including MSAFD Pgm (Stream) & MSAFD Pgm (RDM). In regedit, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-> System -> ControlSet001 -> winsock ->Transport i'm seeing something called RMCAST.

Got a Dell Insprion 1545 Laptop I am working on. Now the reason I am posting this here is cause it revolves directly around the DVD Multi Drive and not the laptop itself. So please dont report this saying it belongs some where else. It doesnt, this is a specific hardware issue.

Anyways. The laptop is about a year old. It would work just fine burning all types of media from CD's to DVD's and everything inbetween. Even after a factory reset. So I went further. Upgraded Windows to Windows 7 Home Premium from Windows Vista Home ... Read more

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1545 Combo Drive issues

Shouldn't this be in... Oh, never mind. :P

Did you try cleaning out the drive? Old remedy, take a Q-tip and brush it on the laser inside the casing. Normally can reach through CD tray.

If that didn't work, yeah, I'd say the drive is bad. Just get a cheap one off eBay.
