I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, i recieved a Elitebook 745 G3 for Work and It was already downgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise (64-bit) when i got it.much to my dismay, the touchscreen and Keyboard Backlight is not working. I've already contacted the HP Chat Support, and they confirmed (multiple times) that the PC has a Touchscreen and Keyboard Backlight. I've already downloaded a lot of drivers from the HP website but it still isn't working. I also checked out the UEFI during Boot can i can't find the TouchScreen Diagnostics Test there. Any Ideas? Thanks!

On my laptop Satellite L20 not working keyboard and touchpad, but keyboard work in BIOS, USB-ports also not working (USB mouse).

Can i get update file for BIOS(traditional updating from boot CD, not OS!)

Sorry for my bad English.

Answer:Satellite L20 keyboard & touchpad not working but keyboard work in BIOS

If the traditional BIOS update is not available on the download page the only way to get it is to contact nearest authorized service provider. They have all versions.

But this keyboard and mouse issue is really strange. can you use it if you start operating system in ?safe mode??

Just recently downloaded a patch from Acer website for my TravelMate P246-MG. The patch was said to "Improve touchpad performance"  with filename "Patch_Acer_2199026_W81x64W10x64_A.zip". I extracted and tried the "SynReflash.exe" program under the x64 folder. The program ran and showed my current firmware version along with 3 IMG files to choose from. Tried the first one and got an error message "Error Code[0x67] Please attch thel og file and send to Synaptics." After this error my touchpad no longer works. Tried to run the program again and it shows "unknown" for my current firmware version. Tried already doing a full format Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, tried also reinstalling Synaptics and ELANTECH drivers to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi pieceofchum ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You may be able to fix this by minimizing the Palm Checker of the mouse settings .

The path would be :
Control Panel  > Mouse > Device Settings > Settings > Pointing > sensitivity > Palm Check > Lowest
Click on link for the visual guide.

Hope this helped you .

I already have the issue that when I put my E5570 to sleep and wake it up again that the keyboard and touchpad do not work. So I have disable the sleep options in the BIOS.
Now I run into different issues.Yesterday I booted the laptop and it hang on the DELL logo, After a while it stated that my EFI file would not be correct. Force reboot and it booted straight to Windows.
What's more annoying is the fact that the laptop boot, the DELL logo is shown and then the screens go's black, as if it's not connected. SO it looks like it hangs.BUT an external monitor through HDMI does work and show the windows logon. The keyboard and touchpad also do not work.External mouse and keyboard do work.
So pretty much I got a brick when I do not have external display/keyboard and mouse available.
When I reboot the laptop it works fine again.Am I the only one with this?Loads of issues with the laptop and wondering if I just have a faulty laptop...
Clean Windows 10 Pro install is done 5 times.Used the  DELL Command Update to install all drivers and patches.Issues keep existing...

Answer:Latitude E5570 - Black display, no resons to keyboard/touchpad - External display/keyboard/mouse do work

I have been spending a lot of hours in troubleshooting this week.
Diagnostics are 100% ok.
Reinstalled Windows 10 about 15 times.Installing drivers by hands, installing drives trhough the dell update management application. The issues keeps existing.
To sum the them up:- Cold boot (laptop is off) to Windows. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and they work again)- Resume from sleep. Keyboard/Touchpad do not work. (Reboot and the work again)
After I got the laptop I installed 32Gb of RAM and an 512Gb Samsung 950Pro PCIE M.2 NVME drive. The drive should be support as Dell states on the product page and in the manual that PCIE with NVME is supported.
"Advanced features, like industry-leading M.2 SATA and M.2 PCIe/NVME solid state drives, provide data transfer speeds up to 4x faster over traditional hard drivers. "
In order to get the drive visible and running on PCIe I had to disable the sata controller in the BIOS.This way the drive is detected in Windows as an PCIe NVME capable drive.
Just to verify if the issues I went back to default with the delivered 256Gb M.2 sata drive and 8Gb RAM.To install Windows I had to turn the Sata controller back on.
Installed the drivers manually updated WIndows and tested. The issues do NOT occur.
Retested by installing the drivers using the Dell Update Application. The issues do NOT occur.
So I figured out that the SATA controller somehow is the guilty part for all the issues.I mean when enabled to ACHI or RAID the sleep and non... Read more

Hi, I'm using a HP EliteBook. And recently I've been using this docking station to insert a monitor and a different keyboard to it. That worked fine until I then had to take my laptop with me and ejected it from the docking station in a hurry (while it was turned off). And now my laptop does not respond at all to neither the keyboard nor the touchpad. My wireless mouse works, so I used the screen keyboard to unlock the PC. I can't find any keyboard drivers for Windows 7 on Sony's website and the touchpad drivers didn't seem to work. A Windows update didn't work, either.

Answer:Satellite A80-154 - Keyboard and Touchpad don't work

Hi

It looks like a hardware problem.
If the warranty is valid you could contact the ASP in your country for a hardware check.

If the warranty is not valid you could firstly check if the keyboard cable was connected to the motherboard properly.
If it?s connected properly then a keyboard malfunction is possible and it would be advisable to check if a replacement would help to solve this issue.

The compatible parts can be ordered also from the ASP in your country.

Hey everyone! I just got a new Edge 15 yesterday (this is the Best Buy exclusive one, and it's more expensive of the two options available), but I'm having an issue with it that's really preventing me from enjoying using the machine, and it's incredibly frustrating! Whenever I press keys on the keyboard and go to use the touchpad together with it, the touchpad freezes/delays for a number of seconds. It makes it incredibly difficult to play any kind of casual game or just browse the web. I've spent a long time looking up solutions, but none of them have helped at all. This Lenovo uses the Alps driver and while it has palm tracking, turning it down to minimum doesn't fix the problem, neither does going through windows 8.1 and choosing the option to have no delay in the mouse/touchpad settings there. I have no idea what to do to fix this problem, if anyone could help that'd be amazing!

Ever since I've upgraded my dad's laptop to Windows 10, the keyboard and touchpad stop working randomly, and would work only after I restart the computer. (logging off, switch user, standby mode doesn't resolve it.)
There is no pattern to it. Sometimes it would be ok for a few days, sometimes it would happen again after a few hours. I mostly do internet browsing on the laptop.

When the problem occurred:
- The keyboard AND the touchpad would both stop working at the same time.
- USB mouse still works. (I do not have an external keyboard to test)
- The lights on the keys themselves (eg caps lock, wifi) would still remain on if they're activated but cannot be toggled on/off as usual.
- The device manager still showed no problems with the mouse or keyboard.

Things I've tried:
- sfc /scannow
- disabled sticky keys
- used the generic drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- reinstalled the drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- updated to the latest synaptics driver
- made a new synaptics trackpad profile
- disabled touchpad when using the USB mouse

Laptop stats:
HP Pavillion dm1-4002AU
Windows 10 Home 64bit (upgraded from Win7 and then reset to a fresh state)
AMD Radeon HD 6230 Graphics
6GB RAM
Synaptics Driver Version: 19.0.12.95 06Jul15
Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad

I am not able to type in my password nor get F1 or  F12 buttons to work (or Lenovo Care button), and can't get to BIOS. I can use the touchpad but that's all.  I can turn the computer off, restart, and put it in sleep. I did use the Rescue and Recovery Startup Disk I made and noted that kbdclass was running, kbdhid was stopped.  It seems like a hardware problem, but I have no way of checking the devices that I can figure out. I hooked up an external keyboard via USB and it didn't even light up.  What now?

I have problem with keyboard and touchpad. Laptop is Satellite A300-1G5

I have Vista home premium and when I power computer on, I must put password in user box then my keyboard and touchpad don't work.

In Bios my keyboard working but when Vista starts it does not.

How I solve this problem?

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5: Keyboard and touchpad do not work

Hi

First of all please check the device status in the device manager.
Please check if the keyboard and touchpad are listed correctly without any yellow exclamation marks.

But you should try to reinstall the drivers again even though the keyboard and the touchpad were recognized properly.
In this case I would recommend removing the keyboard and the touchpad from the device manager and then you should reboot the notebook once again.

After Vista has rebooted the both devices should be recognized again and should work.

Please check this!

I own a sattelite C870-13E computer since august.

Yesterday for no apparent reason, my touchpad stopped working. (no, I didn't turn it off)
Not really bothered by it, i kept working on my computer for several hours.
It then occurred to me it might be a little bug, so I decided to restart my computer.

When it turned back on, not only my touchpad didn't work, now nothing on my keyboard responded, not a single key. I updated drivers, bios, ran a virus scan, rolled back my computer to a few days earlier, nothing helped.

The strange thing is that the keyboard still responds when i hold the 0, F1 or F8 keys, as well as enter and arrow keys to get in the menus before windows starts up.

Using those, i used the toshiba recovery to set the computer back to factory settings.
Despite all that, keyboard and touchpad are still out.
I really don't understand, since it works during startup it can't be actual materialistic damage!

Now i'm getting frustrated cause i have no more solutions and typing with on-screen keyboard is really slow! =p

Any help?

Answer:Keyboard and touchpad don't work on Satellite C870-13E

Hi

I think it?s a hardware malfunction because you already tried the system recovery and the keyboard does not work even if using factory settings.

But it would be interesting to know if the USB external keyboard would functions. Can you test this? In my opinion if the external keyboard would works properly, then this would mean that your internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.
I?m wondering if the touchpad fault is related to the internal keyboard malfunction.

However, I think the warranty should be still valid if you purchased this unit in August. So get in contact with service and the guys should fix it free of charge!

My mom has a Acer 5102. The touchpad and keyboard don't work on the laptop. I tried plugging in a mouse to the USB and that didn't work either. All I want to do is back up my files to an external hard drive but I can't do it without a keyboard or the touchpad. I tried doing FN + F7, and FN + F6, and even FN + F7 + ALT. I heard those key combinations work, but it didn't in my case. Also, she said at first the OS wouldn't boot for a couple days, but now it boots but the keyboard and touchpad doesn't work. Does anyone know what the problem could be?wee

Answer:ACER Keyboard and touchpad doesn't work

Try http://www.laptoprepair101.com for a good desciption on how to disassemble a laptop.Be VERY careful when disassembling. They are fragile and the connections are short. The ribbon cable under the keyboard might be the problem although the USB connections are integrated on the motherboard and with your earlier problems might point to that as the cause.

hi ! when i press a letter on the keyboard the touchpad stops working. i tried with palmcheck option but the problem remains. i have ELAN software and everything seems updated (according to windows update and lenovo softwares). in touchpad settings i found the option about the mouse block during digitation, but it doesn'twork. can someone help me?

Answer:z 50 75 pressing keyboard touchpad doesn't work

I have the same problem with a Y50-70 and ELAN Touchpad/driver too. It has been sold to me as a gaming Laptop and now one major functionality you need for gaming doesn't work - what a mess. I spend hours in the Internet reading hundreds of articles from people with the same issue.1. Solution: Disable the Palmcheck function but unfortunately the ELAN SW doesn' provide this option.2. Solution: Change the Touchpad sensibility (some say max, some min) - neither works with the ELAN driver.3. Solution: Go into the Registry (regedit) and change parameter (DisableWhenType_Enable and DisableWhenType_DelayTime_Move in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPad\), to 0 with Regedit. Didn't work for me too. 4. Solution: Uninstall the ELAN driver qnd let Windows install a generic PS2 one during re-boot. This finally did it for me, however you are losing all the additional functionality of your Touchpad and can onlwy move the cursor plus right/left click. No zoom; no scroll, no multiple finger functionality anymore. So be it, I bought the Laptop for Gaming. I'm pretty disappointed about this but hope there will be better driver coming out soon.

A couple days ago, my keyboard and touchpad mouse stopped working. I thought it was a hardware issue and ordered a replacement keyboard. As for the touchpad, I'm just using a wireless mouse. I replaced the keyboard a couple days later with the new one, and when I turned on my laptop, it works again, but when I put my laptop to sleep and wake it up, I hit enter, and then it stops working. I cannot type anything until I restart my computer. I figured it has to do something with the drivers, but I'm not too sure. Here is my computer specs:

Product: HP Pavilion dv9700
Model: dv9925nr
Windows 7 home premium 64bit

I've gone to the HP website to get the drivers, but they do not support windows 7 for my computer.

Sometimes when I start up my computer, more often than not, when it brings me to my logon screen, I can't use the touchpad or the keyboard at all.  I have to physically touch the screen to let me put my pin in.  Still, neither work, so I end up shutting down and restarting, sometimes more than once, before the touchpad and keyboard start to work again.  I've had this problem for a couple of years now, have been in touch with support, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled my keyboard.  My warranty just expired of course.  I'm ready to throw this computer out of a window.

After few hours of trying to fix it, my Standart PS/2 Keyboard turned into Unknown device and now im completely lost. Adding photo of device manager, i hope someone will help me here.

Since we do not know the make and model of your laptop.
Should try the laptop manufacturer's website to see if you can find the drivers for this. Does look like there missing.

What does it tell you when you right click the ones with yellow exclamation points ?

You can right click and select update driver software, either search automatically or browse your computer, select signed driver from the list is shows you.

Answer:Keyboard and Touchpad wont work on Satellite L

Hi

There are no many options which could solve this problem.
It can be a hardware problem or software related issue.

Can you use the internal keyboard within the BIOS?
Check this.
If this would not be possible, I assume the hardware is faulty.

Additionally I recommend testing the keyboard and touchpad using the factory settings.
Recover the notebook and check if the keyboard would functions?. Otherwise you will need an helps from an notebook technician in order to replace the keyboard and touchpad

Hello,I recently bought a new HP Pavilion 15-bc035nd (Windows 10) but I am running into a few issues with it. When I go into sleep mode and then wake up the laptop, using the power button, the keyboard and touchpad stops working. I am not able to enter my password. Via an external mouse and keyboard I am able to enter my password succesfully. Even after entering my password I am still not able to use my touchpad/keyboard of my laptop. Only a hard reset enables me to use the keyboard/touchpad again. I have tried various settings regarding power management but nothing seems to resolve my issue... Any suggestions? Thanks in advance,Kevin

*************** SOLVED *************Hi there !   I really need your help this is very concerning. My PC is an Ideapad 100S-14IBR. While I was typing some text in college, my hardware (touchpad and keyboard) stopped responding and the text editor kept on writing the last key I pressed, as if kept it pressed. Not concerned, I just hard rebooted because I was stuck. This hasn't solved the issue, both my touchpad and keyboard are still unresponsive. When booting, pressing F12 to acces boot menu doesn't work either (used to work). The keyboard isn't even recognised in boot... this makes me think the problem is a lot more serious thant what I thought At home, I did a complete reinstall of the system with a USB keyboard and mouse plugged after saving my works. Reinstalling didn't solve the problem, the touchpad and keyboard still don't work. I checked and I have both mouse and keyboard drivers, all up to date. The Windows Diagnosing Utility didn't find anything. Lenovo System Update doesn't give me any result too.How can I fix this please ? Help will be greatly appreciated. I need this computer for work :/ Thanks

My Lenovo g50-70 will not allow me to use my keyboard the touchpad at the same time. If' i'm moving the mouse pointer and then try to type something at the same time the pointer will stop moving until i stop typing.  I've searched the dicussion boards for a solution to this problem and I have found posts that instruct me to minimize the palm tracking portion of the driver. Hi,

this laptop Satellite L300D is not even a year old and it is giving me a heck of a lot of issues.

About 3 times a week the touchpad will just stop working (after going around crazy & clicking stuff on its own)
When I plug in a mouse it works.

Today the keyboard gave up, after a re-boot it will allow me to type in my password but after that its dead.

Please help.

Answer:Satellite L300D touchpad and keyboard wont work at all

Did you install mouse drivers for your external mouse? Sometimes they can cause problems with the internal touchpad.

Otherwise you should send the laptop to an Authorized Service Partner to get it repaired under warranty.

Hi,

My daughter's Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 has developed a couple of faults.

Firstly, the keyboard displays random characters such as a stuck key would. eg, if in Google or Wordpad the system will at random type a single character over and over again even when no key is pressed. Occasionally it will also open windows or programs as if the 'enter' key has been pressed, or cycle through desktop icons.

Secondly, the touchpad is non-responsive and cursor operation isn't possible from the touchpad or buttons. I don't know if the two are related.

She assures me she hasn't spilled anything on the laptop, so any help would be appreciated to rectify these faults.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi

Can you notice the same issue with external input devices?

If not it?s time for an authorized service provider. I think the keyboard and touchpad must be replaced and the technicians can help you.

On the Toshiba website you can find a list of authorized service provider.

Good luck! :)

Hello, The left button on my Synaptics Touchpad doesn't work when I'm pressing a key on the keyboard. Initially, I thought it was a PalmCheck problem, but that feature was already disabled. The right click works fine and so does the touchpad itself. The only problem is the left button. I tried reinstalling an updated driver, but that didn't fix the problem. I tried the generic Synaptics driver and both the HP Windows 8 and 8.1 versions. They all worked fine for all touchpad functions except for the left button which still doesn't work when I'm pressing a keyboard key. I tried using a wireless mouse and the left click worked fine so the problem is only with the touchpad.

Hi everyone.

I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I'm having with my Satellite 5200-802. The Keyboard will not work evn though it shows in device manager and report it as working fine. I have updated the BIOS and tried a lot of other basic stuff so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It may be worth mentioning that I also cannot get my touchpad driver to register.

Many thanks.

Answer:Satellite 5200-802: Keyboard and touchpad dont work

Hi

Do you get an error message or do you have any bed signs on the screen?
Can you use the keyboard to access the BIOS?
If yes then the keyboard was recognized and works!

If you cannot use the keyboard running OS then I would recommend to delete the keyboard device from the device manager and to restart the notebook.
After new OS reboot the keyboard should be recognized again.

But I think that you will be not able to access the BIOS.
Due to the fact that the touchpad does not work too, I presume the hardware is faulty or there is no connection to the motherboard. Maybe a lose cable?

Maybe you should check this. But note; if you have no experience contact the notebook technicians. Bye

I have got a Tecra A7 with XP. Every once and a while when waking up from Standby or Hibernation, the Keyboard and Touchpad dont work at all. I can still log on using fingerprint recognition. Also an external USB mouse then works.

I have to Log Off and Re-Log-On using the external mouse to make the keyboard and touchpad work again. Very inconvenient, especially when you re in a hurry.... hehe

Anyone else experiencing a similar problem?? Any solutions??

Thanks for any help guys!!!

Did you install drivers for your external keyboard or mouse? For example Logitech drivers?

Try uninstalling those 3rd party drivers, they may be conflicting with the Toshiba drivers.

Did you try to disconnect and connect the docking again?

Maybe there is some connection problem.

I have a G550 which works fine. I bought a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse and they work fine too. Recently I had to take laptop on the road and I did not want to take the large wireless KB. But if I remove the little wireless USB thing, the keyboard and the touchpad on the laptop DO NOT WORK. How do I fix this problem? Many thanks! PS: This laptop is a bargain! I bought it new from Office Depot last year during a turn-in-your-old-laptop promotion and paid approx. 400 dollars for it. I also upgraded to Windows Professional through a college deal. I am extremely happy with this machine and can't believe I got it for such a low price.

Answer:G550 keyboard and touchpad do not work when I remove wireless KB and mouse

hey johannfu, when you have the wireless keyboard connected, was the keyboard and touchpad working on the G550 ?if not and only the Microsoft Wireless keyboard was working, then it is a high possibility that the drivers that came from the wireless keyboard overwritten the drivers for your G550 keyboard and touchpad.

When I open up my computer and try to login, both the keyboard and touchpad no longer works.  The only thing I can do is touch the screen and hope the on-screen keyboard pops up.  but I can't use the actual physical keyboard or touchpad.  They seem disabled. I don't even see the mouse pointer arrow or icon on the login screen at all  when I try to move my hand around the touchpad now it takes me a couple tries to login abd only after I  login, the keyboard & touchpad work again Im using HP Spectre x360. I think this started happening after the last major auto update  (Also now the computer doesn't go to sleep when I close the lid,  and after a while the computer gave an alert message that the battery was low since it never went to sleep.  After this last update, the low battery alert message is now pink instead of blue )

Got a nasty surprise today - unlike the other major manufacturers, who offer one year free tech support, Lenovo does not. $179 for a contract or $89 to cover a single incident. Thanks, guys. :-/ Here's my problem. G780, bought last October. Upgraded from Win7 Home Premium to Win8 Pro.A few days ago, the built-in keyboard stopped working. It works in the BIOS, but when you boot into Windows, Windows doesn't recognize it. There is a PS/2 keyboard driver and a HID Keyboard Device that show up in the Win8 Device Manager. I'm assuming those are the drivers for the built-in keyboard. If I plug in a USB keyboard, it shows up in the Device Manager as an additional HID Keyboard Device. Through trial and error, I discovered that the keyboard still works fine when the Elan touchpad driver is not installed. The problem with THAT: I can't disable the touchpad unless the driver is installed, and if the touchpad isn't disabled, it'll screw me up because I accidentally brush my hand up against the touchpad while typing. I've also noticed that sometimes, the touchpad icon in the system tray shows up with a CAUTION icon overlaid on top of it (you know, the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point). I can't figure out why, and I can't figure out what changed on my computer that caused the keyboard to stop working properly. I've tried uninstalling the Elan touchpad driver, downloading the latest driver from the G780 support web page, and reinstalling it. No... Read more

Answer:G780 keyboard doesn't work, but ONLY when Elan Touchpad driver is installed.

hi stevesobol,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Are you also able to type your password on the login screen but after that the keyboard gets disabled? If this is the case, check this article as it's similar to the keyboard issue.

As for the Keyboard not working when the ELAN touchpad driver is not installed, this is surprising as I've never heard this issue happen before. Are you not able to disabled the touchpad via Fn+F6 even if the driver is not installed?

My lenovo laptop has a terrible beep beep sound when i start the laptop. And when i click any icon on the destop it  opens the recycle bin (its on the top left corner) and when i refresh the destop always the recycle bin is highlighted. When i type something on the internet to search or a message the line ( which blinks when we type) always goes back. So I cannot even type anything correctly. I can't move the scroll down when i am on the internet the scroll goes up again. i need help.

Answer:Lenovo G570 beeps constantly on start up - keyboard and touchpad don't work properly

Shanuka,
Welcome to the forum!

Would you turn off the system and restart and see if you can go into BIOS?   If you get the constant beep on startup and are unable to press F2 (I believe it is F2) to enter BIOS, then it sounds like you may have a stuck key on the keyboard, or the cable for the trackpad or keyboard is not fully connected to the systemboard, OR the internal cables are pinched.   If this is the case, then I think you probably need to contact Lenovo service for help as it is likely a hardware issue.

If you are able to go into BIOS, are you able to move around in there?  You could try reloading BIOS defaults and reboot.  If everything works in BIOS and the problem is only in Windows, then it could be a driver / setting (less likely), but you could try to open mouse in the control panel and check settings.

But just based on the symptoms, it really sounds like either the touchpad or keyboard has a stuck key or is acting as if one is stuck due to the bad cable connection or a short.

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Hello. Last week a got a brand new ThinkPad E460 factory sealed for work. And it've had troubles with it out of the box, I have a ThinkPad T450s private and have never experienced anything like this on my private laptop. So of the bath to tends to freeze at Lenovo logo in BIOS boot screen. And I have to press a bunch of keys for it to continue. I think I might have fixed this issue by disableing secure boot and anti-theaft. It didn't always happen, but it happend every morning at work. I disabled these features now so I can't confirm or deny if that problem is competely ficked. I have of coruse updated the BIOS and all drivers. My second issue is that EVERY time, not only when I restart but also if I sign out of my account and back in again is that my TouchPad refuse to work if I don't click a key (any key) on the lenovo keyboard in addition to this left arrow key is in a loop. This is really annoying as I use this with a dock at my workplace. If I move the coursor to a textfield with my external mouse or the Trackpoint (that works fine regardless if I click on the keyboard or not) I will see the corusing being moved to the left contantly untill I click a key at the keyboard. What is going on? These issues seems really strange to me and not something you'd epxect.

Answer:ThinkPad E460 - TouchPad Will not work untill lenovo keyboard is pressed and arrow left is in a loop

I have not had the POST freeze problem, although I did have a bug with Yubikey, I had to push the Yubikey button twice to input the second part of my long VeraCrypt password, this was solved with a BIOS update.. Also my right speaker sounds broken on higher volumes, and OSD brightness bar is stuck on screen after waking up from S3 suspend, but goes away if I adjust the brightness with the keys on the keyboard. I do also have the TouchPad lockup problem! I have noticed the same, random lockups of the TouchPad. The TrackPoint works but the TouchPad locks up. It is restored by pushing a keyboard key or the TrackPoint mouse keys, or just leaving the TouchPad alone for a while (5-10 seconds). I got this machine with Windows 10 pre-installed but decided to go back to Windows 7 since Windows 10 has been nothing but a big PITA. I didn't notice this problem on Windows 10, but I have plenty of other Windows 10 specific problems. After installing all the latest drivers available for E460 (latest available from the site at the time, September 2016) this problem popped up. Current driver: 8.216.1616.135 I just checked System Update and noticed an update for the ALPS ThinkPad UltraNav Driver, so I'll update and check back (if I remember). New driver: 8.216.1616.151[Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue related to TouchPad Cursor no response in a short time after resume from S3 by lid close Maybe this have or will fix your TouchPad problem too.

This morning I suddenly found my touchpad is not working. It was working normally last night. Machine: HP ELITEBOOK 8570WOS: Windows 8.1 64-bit ver Its current state is: no respond upon touching it; double-touching up the upper left courner also no response(if it's working normally, the little light will light up AND THEN the touchpad will stop working coresspondingly.) I have tried following methods: Restart the computer;Reinstall the touchpad's driver to initial state;Update the touchpad's driver to latest version;Download the sp51647 driver, install it(failed); In Device Manager, I can still see the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad under the Mouse and Other Pointer Devices category. The manager says the touchpad is working normally. * What I suspect to be the reason is that, this morning I started the laptop without connecting the AC adapter but only on battery and the voltage is too low for the touchpad to function normally. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

Answer:HP Elitebook 8560p touchpad right click issues

Hi All Taught I'll let you know that I've found the solution to my problem it was an issue to do with hardware in particular the keyboard had a spare keyboard lying around which I taught I'll swap it out and it worked the right closest to the keyboard worked all sudden I rebooted several times to confirm and is till worked.i also wanted to do further investigation to see which part of keyboard wasn't working since it had two ribbon cables one for the point stick and one for the actual keybaord.i unplugged the point stick ribbon cable and just left the ribbon cable for the keyboard in and switched the machine on and both right click and left button now wasn't working then I decided to switch the point stick ribbon cable from the working keyboard to one wasn't working and plugged the original keyboard back and all the buttons worked even the right so culprit was the ribbon cable for the point stick. ThanksLekshmen

I recently attempted to udgrade windows 7 to windows 10. The whole update ran properly however when my laptop rebooted, everything was the same. It came up as Eroor code 8007002c-2000d. I have tried updating it before and it didn't work then either. I can live with this as I don't need it updating urgently however since the last attempt the scroller on the touchpad no longer works. I use the scroller all the time and I don't know what to do, can anyone help?  Thanks

Hi there. I've recently started having touchpad problems with my beloved HP EliteBook Folio 9470m.  The issue:The Synaptics TouchPad and its 2 buttons (located just below the touchpad) do not work at all. However, the TouchStyk and its 2 buttons (located at the top of the touchpad) do work perfectly fine. How it started:I factory reset the ultrabook using the Windows 10 menu and when it started back up, everything was cleaned, but the touchpad and its 2 buttons (located below the touchpad) didn't work anymore. External mice do work when plugged. Common solutions that didn't work for me:-The orange light at the top-left of the touchpad is not lit up-Reinstalling the official drivers for Windows 10 (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_166960_1&swEnvOid=419...)-Installing different versions of drivers and even some for other brands of laptops-Resetting Windows 10 many times-Running driver scanning programs (DriversCloud, DriverScanner) Further notes:No matters which driver I install, the touchpad is always missing in the "Mouse properties" window. The last tab of the window should (if I am not mistaken) have both the Synaptics TouchStyk and TouchPad listed, but only the TouchStyk shows up. It appears as if the driver updated and might have corrupted something, or maybe it's overlapping with the old one and it didn't properly overwrite it (I'm running out of ideas...). Someone told me it might h... Read more

I have a Client today who's been having some real issues with their customization features. Particularly, scrolling on the touchpad not working supposedly regardless of the settings changed/altered to accommodate this feature. Otherwise the touchpad functions just fine, but not to the efficiency my client in question desires. It would appear that not only does there appear to be a sectioned off part on the touchpad to enable this, but supposedly other individuals whom possess the same make and model, with the same windows 10 pro version, are able to enable this feature with no issues whatsoever. The mouse cursor does appear to be still itself whenever two fingers are placed onto the pad, but otherwise nothing.
Any Advice to what the issue might be?

I have an Hp EliteBook 8670w which has a touchpad and 6 buttons. 3 on top and 3 on bottom. I don't have big hands, however, I bump the touchpad on occasion and then the cursor moves and I delete content. I have an external mouse, but I really want to disable the touchpad and buttons. So I tried the regular options.  I double tapped the upper left of the touchpad. to no avail.  There is no Synaptics tab on the mouse window ( in control panel) so I tried to install from the HP site and it downloaded, but did not install.  There is no touchpad option at all - for me to modify.  I even tried to go into the mouse via ps2 option and disable and there is not a disable option available  Help

Hello, the EliteBook Folio G1 (2016) allows the choice between MS Precision and GlidePoint. The problem described below occurs on both driver versions. (Please also note that I have configured *all* settings (on all 3 locations where mouse settings can be configured), and I did so in a way that rules out that the problem is a result of misconfiguration. Bios, Windows and Touchpad drivers are up-to-date.) Problem: When I try to move the cursor just a little bit (which is a very frequent action in everyday computer usage in general (e.g. cursor positiong, checkboxes), and with certain applications (imaging) in particular), there is no response until I have moved my finger over the touchoad a few millimeters (!). This is very annoyng -- it is impossible to do precise operations. In particular, no such issues exist on my other notebooks. I guess it's some kind of protection so no movements are done when accidental touching the touchpad. However, unlike the "prevent-movement after typing"- option, there is no user-visible setting that would allow the user to disable this annoyance. I am actually considering sending the computer back. It is ironic because this is anything but "Precision". (All the other features and behavior of the touchpad are quite good, btw).  Request: Please forward this problem to your developlemt/software team so they can check whether this can be changed, and then please provide new drivers/etc. They should check wheth... Hello, I updated my OS to Windows 10. Everything works perfectly except of trackpoint/touchpad. The first issue is really a critical one - trackpoint buttons are practically useless. Single button click causes the mouse click event multiple times - for example opens 6 new cards in a web browser instead of one. I've found another post here describing in detail exactly the same problem but the author didn't get any response, neither from HP nor the community: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Elitebook-8570w-built-in-mou... The driver delivered with Windows (which is also listed as compatible with Windows 10 on HP's 8570w support site http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5257503&swItemId=ob_152050_1&swEnvOid=419... version 19.0.12.0, causes the problems I mentioned earlier. The updated one from Synaptics website (19.0.19.1) additionaly prevents the OS from detecting the middle button... Additionally, the only gestures I can use are the basic ones - no advanced 3- or 4-finger ones (please don't tell me that the hardware is incompatible because similar gestures worked on Windows 8.1 I used earlier). I have a dual boot with Win10 and Linux and on Linux everything works flawlessly, so it's definitely not a hardware problem What should I do to make my touchpad and trackpoint fully functional?

Hello, I would like to change my Touchpad settings to have an invert/reverse scrolling. I already read other topics about, but I could not find a solution. I am having the Synaptics LuxPad V1.5 an SMB Port. and using windows 7. In other videos/topis, they use a different Version of LuxPad or a different windows. Settings are therefore different than mine, I can not change the "gear box", but there must be a way, somehow?! Does someone has an idea? Thanks a lot in advance!!

Hello Everyone,

My problem started after updating windows 8.1 to windows 10, of course!
First the touchpad just stopped working, for no reason.

My solution was to uninstall the drive and restart the laptop. And from time to time I had to do this proceed. Two weeks ago windows updated, and the touchpad issue's gone. . Unfortunately, another one appeared.

The feature "mousekey", which is turn it on at ease access to use the numeric keys to use them as a mouse, It's turning itself on. And doesn't matter how many times I turn it off, few seconds and it's on again.

I've tried uninstalling the drive, which after windows the last updating was "ELAN".

Then I replaced by the Toshiba drivers, which is "Synaptic", and uninstalled the drives ,the problem is the same. Because of that, I can't use my numeric key, which is annoying!! If anyone can come up with something I will be grateful.

I have also try to installed the drivers manually, but it didn't help neither. Is there any solution for this problem? or should I replace the computer for a different model? Thank you for the help

How do I disable to home key on my keyboard? When I'm typing and accidentally hit it instead of delete, it puts the cursor back to the start, and I might type several words before realizing this. What a pain! AM I the only one with this problem? Thanks.

Answer:How do I disable to home key on my Elitebook 840 keyboard?

Hi @Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Elitebook 840 and issues with the Touchpad. To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums. Even though this is a Commercial product, here is a document on how to troubleshoot the mouse and Touchpad gestures. In the document, it shows you how to change the settings by clicking the settings icon to adjust the button actions on the Touchpad. Hope this helps you out. Thanks.

Dear EliteBook users,Did anyone try - and succeed - adding some memory module to the primary memory slot underneath the keyboard of an EliteBook 8560w?I needed some extra memory and successfully added two modules to the slots below the bottom cover. But I needed more, and had to add it to the remaining slot just below the keybord. For that I had to remove the keyboard, but that turned out to be an impossible task. The user-guide ("Getting Started", p.45 and on) tells you how to do that, but that is definitely not correct. For instance, there is no "keyboard release cut-out", as indicated in p.46. Also the force you have to exert on the keyboard back-side is dangerouly hight (dangerous for the keyboard and for your fingers). Googling for that did not help. In fact, a bit surprisingly, I have found other two user-guides for the same model, all of them with different technics to remove the keyboard, and all of them inapropriate. To make things worse, HP support in the Netherlands said they could do nothing for me, except sending me the same manuals I already have. And there is absolutelly no available channel to complain with HP about that!I'd be grateful for any information on that.Regards.G.Oliveira.?

Answer:EliteBook 8560w keyboard and memory

Hi: You may find the actual service manual of more help. It provides detailed instructions on how to install the memory and remove the various parts to get to the memory module under the keyboard. See chapter 4 http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02844491/c02844491.pdf Paul
