Preferred Solution: Windows 10 IoT Ent. Thin Client - Multi-Touch Support

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there a way to revert a currently loaded SCCM thin client back to a HPDM-managed thin client? The quickest way I'm thinking of is to just thumbdrive reimage the device. Can the HPDM agent be placed on the device to establish initial communiications to the HPDM server? Thanks.

can microsoft implement native multi gesture support for touch pad for windows 8, it like a small touch screen isn't it? as of now it works randomly with some application and not other eg zune, windows explorer doesn't work etc. the feature is so useful it's supprising that microsoft still haven't include it in their os.

Answer:touch pad multi gesture support

Ummm...you are a bit behind the times it seems. Windows 7 already has full Multi-touch support. You just need devices that are multi-touch aware/supportive. And applications also need to implement support themselves to get the full benefit.

Hi guys, I'm interested in buying a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch and a docking station for it.Before I buy it, I would like to know first whether I can use simultaneously the integrated laptop screen and 3 additional external monitors, all in extended mode (using the docking station, or other DisplayPort - DVI adapter) As far as I have read in the technical specs, it has the Intel HD Graphics 4000, but no information is given about how many external monitors this GPU supports. Has anyone tested this? If yes, what's the result  Thanks in advance and have a great day!Mihail

Answer:X1 Carbon Touch Multi-Monitor support

Well, it seems nobody knows that...I guess I won't buy it any longer, since I definitely need multiple monitors and apparently the Dell Latitude laptops do support them simultaneously...

Hi,

I have two Acer 23 inch multi touch screens, being driven through a Matrox DualHead2Go. So the ATI graphics card thinks it is driving a single 2050 x 1080 monitor, the DualHead2Go then splits this across the two screens.

Will Windows 7 support multi touch across two screens?

Thanks.

I've read nearly all the topics related to this, and have looked up what my laptop shipped with, but I can't find solid confirmation that my display has or doesn't have the multitouch display.

It doesn't explicitly say multitouch, so I suspect it doesn't have it. However, in other descriptions of 13N7268 it describes it as "frameless", and my screen definitely has a huge margin between the screen and the bezel.

i guys im new in the form. i ve got a lenovo x201 tablet.im wondering about the multi touch option.Does x201 tablet 3113-94U support multi touch or only pen. And also i coudnt find my model type in lenovo.thats kind of weird Thanks for everything

Answer:lenovo x201 tablet 3113-94U support multi touch??(pen & finger)

Hi, btoymus23

I did some research on your machine and found its entry in the Personal Systems Reference. Machine type 3113-94U does not support MultiTouch, unfortunately. This information can be found in the link on page CML3-4 (use Ctrl+F to find it faster.)

MultiTouch, however, means to be able to use three distinct points on a touchscreen at once, not being able to use different touch inputs. I think you should be able to use your fingers to touch objects on the screen, though the pen might be easier.

Hope it helps,
Adam

3093-bf8 does not appear in the tabook reference so it was probably a custom build. Most X201 tablets do not support finger touch, but you can find the screen FRU by entering your serial number here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page

Anyone got any wisdom as to why? I.E. is it cashing the info or something? and how do i permentanly delete and recreate?

I was wondering is i can upgrade the 5740 HP thin client with windows xp embedded to windows 7 embedded. And if i'am still complaint with the licenses for the thin clients

Answer:Can you upgrade the HP Thin client 5740 from XP to Windows 7...

JVDDistribution Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! You'll be facing two problems if you attempt that:1) drivers2) license In terms of the first, HP supplies no Win7 drivers for that PC, so after the Win7 install, you'll be stuck using generic drivers that are supplied by MS, and those only support the most basic functions.  While you can install some older drivers in newer OSs using Compatibility Mode, MS changed the drivers models a LOT for Win7, so the XP drivers are most likely, not going to work. In terms of the second, your PC has an HP OEM license for XP and that does not carry over to Win7.  You would have to purchase Win7 license to use it on this PC. Good LuckI am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.========================================================================If you feel my suggestions helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks! If they helped resolve your issue, please click "Accept As Solution" to help others find similar information.

Hi - on ebait, someone is selling dell thin clients with windows 7 embedded. The computer is "Dell Optiplex FX170," with an Atom N270. I cannot find info on the motherboard. When I have looked at Windows Embedded info, it seems that it is supposed to have great modularity so that the OS can be kept small and can be tailored to specific apps.

I have loaded Win7 on an Asus netbook, so I know the Atom processsor will run Win7 decently.

What degree of Windows functioning would I have if I tried to use one of these as a normal stand-alone desktop? Could I run most all Windows-compatible software? I am guessing software would have to be loaded onto flash drive or another drive - it seems like this comp only has memory for the embedded OS.

Answer:Functionality of Windows 7 Embedded on Dell Thin Client?

You can set Windows Embedded to install itself essentially as a Win7 machine. Just check all the modules.

I am unsure on program compatibility.. it should be OK, but I'm not 100%

Also, you're actually gonna buy this thing? Do you know what a thin client is?

Hi I bought a Optiplex FX170 thin client from ebay. It already had Windows Embedded installed on it (not sure if it was WES 2009 or WES7. Anyways, I deleted the partition and installed DeTOS on it. Now I want to reinstall WES back on it. I am completely confused, this is my first time working with a thin client.
I found this page with links to all the images:
http://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/optiplex-fx170.html
I think I downloaded the first one, Windows Embedded Standard 2009 - WDM. extracted the file. has many directories includes an .rsp file and  a separate directory with .img files. I download the Wyse USB Firmware Tool and tried using that. Selected the configure a new USB key and push firmware to it. selected the .rsp file but it gives me an error while creating the key, saying usb is either less than 1gb (its a 15GB usb...) or image isnt the correct one.
I'm lost and I just want to get the WES back on my thinclient.

Answer:Reinstall Windows Embedded OS on Optiplex FX170 thin client?

If yes, what do we need to consider?c) are there any updates for embedded 2009 that would allow to run IE9 or higher?d) we also have several old HP t5730 and t5740e in storage that run on HP thin Pro. Multiple t520 Windows 8 thin clients have repeatedly failed. Meaning occasionally when a user will boot up the device it will present a Blue Screen of Death recovery screen- " System needs to be repaired". This has happened on 6 or 7 of our windows 8 thin clients. In order to even get past the BSOD we have to re-flash with HP's stock windows 8 image. However, the issue is not occurring on our windows 7 thin clients of the same make and model. Only the Windows 8 devices. HP support has not been very helpful or synpatheic, we even sent a couple back to HP to re-image and they also fail again when placed back in production.  Is anyone else having this issue with their Windows 8 t520 thin clients? My best idea is to roll back these machines to windows 7, however HP does not offer a solution to roll the devices down to 7 from 8.

Answer:Windows 8 t520 Thin client failures / consistent crashes

The t520 Thin Client does not support Windows 8 32-bit, so I am assuming you mean WES8 64-bit.  There is a recently updated WES8 image for this platform and I'm told it resolves a BSOD issue.  If you want to try it, download and install the ThinUpdate tool Softpaq from the t520 drivers page.  You can install ThinUpdate on any Windows PC connected to the Internet.  It will download the image and build a bootable USB key (if you're not familiar with the tool.)  Look for the images with the + symbol.   --Keith

These additional workstations are to bet cabled through our network switch and using part of our bandwidth. There is no obvious link to our main server. Is it sufficient to rely on anti-virus and firewall software on the thin client server or should I insist that each of the additional workstations is separately protected?

There is no harm in installing additional protection of each of the client machines, peace of mind really.

Lenovo and Devpost just launched the Multi-Touch Multi-Hack, a global online hackathon to build interactive Windows apps for Lenovo?s multi-user, multi-touch Aura interface. There are $25,000 in cash prizes, along with promotional placement for the winning apps across Lenovo's platforms.
Using the Windows 8 and 10 SDKs, developers can build apps for the Aura interface that let people use all 10 fingers at once to interact with a desktop or tablet touchscreen. Multiple people can also interact simultaneously on the same Lenovo device ? opening up the possibilities for collaborative computing using natural hand gestures.
Coders and interaction designers have until June 14 to build an app with 10-finger touch that creates a new educational or entertainment experience on the Lenovo YOGA Home devices. The grand prize winner gets $10,000 and a meeting with Lenovo's business development team, and all winners receive a Lenovo YOGA PC or tablet and promotion for their apps.
The hackathon judges include VC guru Brad Feld and Matt Presley from music creation platform Open Labs. For more details and registration, go to multitouch.devpost.com.

Question: thin client

I am trying to create a remote connection to my server at work (os ms windows 2003) - I currently have the vpn in place but the software I need to access requires a thin client. Do I need any additional hardware ? or can I run the software directly on the server to accomplish the same thing. also is there a certain type of thin client software that i should use? The software company said they have used "graph on" thin client before? I think that this company may be oob - because I can't find them. Any help would be appreciated!!! thank you

Answer:thin client

software usage has nothing to do with running a thin client.
the software needs to be installed/running from the server.

You ran the rras wizard and setup the vpn.
Now you need to logon remotely from any pc using remote desktop.
Test local RDP access before moving on to access from home.

I just purchased a second hand HP CompaqT5000 thin client with WindowsXP Pro embedded and Citrix Program Neighbourhood and Remote Desktop Connection installed.
I would like to connect the thin client to a PC that is running Windows Xp Home. Can someone please advise how to set it up?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Answer:thin client

first you need to make sure they both have network cards
then, if you're connecting them directly (not through a router or hub) you will need a crossover cable.

if you're connecting them through a router, any cat5 cable should work.

when you connect teh computers, XP home should have automatically configured the network settings, with the workgroup as MSHOME. you might have to configure Citrix to work in MSHOME also. I am not familiar with Citrix so I can't tell you how to configure that.

I noticed that as of late I can put my mitts on very inexpensive (read it as cheap, ~$50) thin client mini computers so I can put one up for my brother that is mostly clueless about computers (not much room there either). Connect to his TV set and a pair of wireless mini KB and a mouse. It would be connected to my main computer soon to be more powerful and share mostly internet maybe few movies etc.
I can find some that would be able to run W8 and even W10 and my only problem would be to make it work with ordinary PC running non Enterprise W10.
Anybody tried it or have any ideas how to do it ?

I am not sure if this is the correct sub-forum for this question, but here it goes anyway.

I have an HP/Compaq t5510 thin client, very limited device with RAM which is not upgradeable (64MB - 8MB reserved) and a 32M DOM.

I previously extracted the 32M DOM, crammed an old 2.5" ATA drive into the enclosure and barely managed to get FreeNAS (i think) installed and running on it. I have since built a nicer NAS/server running OI and i would like to return this t5510 to being a thin client and use it to connect to the new server. I can reinstall the original image from HP, but it uses WinCE and appears to only connect to servers via RDP. So now to the real meat of my question:

Does anyone know of a minimal system (Linux/BSD/don'tcarewhat) which i can install in this incredibly restricted device (preferrably on the DOM, which i have replaced with a 256M DOM) that will initialize and just load a VNC client? Due to my network configuration it is not feasible to run DHCP on the server and PXE boot which most of the options i find seem to do.
I have been searching for far too long and keep winding up going in circles, any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have a thin client running WinXPE. I am new to using thin clients and need some help. The thin client is used to connect to my server through a RDP session.

The problem is I have data on a USB flash drive and when I plug it into the USB port of the thin client it appears on the THin client desktop not in hte RDP session. Is there a way for me to get my data from the flash drive into the RDP session without physically pluggin g the flash drive into the server?

I need to know because the servers I connect to are not always in the next room. Some are across the country.

Thanks,

Justin

Answer:Thin client problem

Might work if your key shows up as a disk drive and you have checked the box to on the Local resources tab of the connection to automatically connect local drives.

Would be good to know what TS you are connecting to and the client version.

Interesting question - I'll go try it out.

Hello, We use 50 Thin clients HP T520. On the intranet, with freerdp connection we don't have any problem (web pages is displayed very well and it work fine), but on extranet (wan), so with VPN we have a slow connection at the level of web pages and also at the level of the applications. The server part using Windows Server 2008 R2.  We noticed that we have others HP Thin client (like t5550, T5545, T5540 or T510) and we have the same problems via VPN. For all we used HP ThinPro as operating system. We have tested the VPN connections with Desktop Pc (Windows 7) + RDP, but we have not any problems with the connection's speed, and everything works fine. So, in short:Thin client + RDP (FreeRDP without VPN, intranet) = no problemDescktop PC (classic) RDP + VPN = no problemThin client (HP, Thinpro) + RDP (FreeRDP) VPN = slow internet connection and blocking of applications. So where is the problem? Thank you for any help! Sorry for my English!

Question: Thin Client Issue

Thin Client - winxp embedded -made by 'wyse' model '9650xe'
I am an Admin for our small network and we are experiancing a Thin Client issue. we run pc's,terminals, and thin clients on our network. the rest of the machines are booting just fine, the issue lies with the thin clients. When we boot(or restart) the thin clients with the network cable in, it gets stuck at the "intel boot agent" when it should be recieving its Ip address and won't go any farther then that.

If we start the thin client without the network cable plugged in it will boot up to the desktop just fine and then we plug the network cable in and it gets its IP address with no problems.

sort of a strange issue but have seen much worse in the past. we can't seem to figure this one out though and i was hoping for some assistance from the experianced admins here at BC.

All of your advice and expertise are appreciated, Thanks in advance!!

Answer:Thin Client Issue

I'm not a network admin, however I can offer my still offer my advise.

Could the Thin Client be trying to do a network boot and not being able to complete it hangs at the intel boot agent?

I'd look at the boot priority order.

Hi there.. I have Epson LQ-310 hooked on Hp Thin Client T5740 (WES 2009) When I turn on the printer the WES 2009 try to install the printer driver but in the end I got error install the printer driver. ..please help Thanks

Answer:HP Thin Client T5740

Did you disable the Write Filter that the change gets applied? Also the driver might need more space on the ramdrive. You could enhance the ramdrive for that. Also you could change the Temp Folder via Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environment Variables and changes the Variables TEMP and TMP in "User variables" and "System variables" to a different drive / network drive.and after a successful installation undo those changes.

Question: thin client setup

I have a network of 5 thin client and 3 windows xp computers connected to a server using linux.

I didn't set it up and the guy who set it up has to keep fixing it and the network is always having problems so I want to start all over and rid of the linux for now since I am not familiar with it.

I want to setup a windows 2000 server and connect that and the 3 xp computers to the network. What I am not sure about is the thin client pcs.

How would I find out how to configure them and can they boot up from a windows 2000 server?

Thanks,
George

Hi,
We have been trying to get RemoteFX up and running on our HP thin clients mainly for the USB redirection feature.  I have been all over the internet looking for ways to accomplish this.  I have seen in several places where I need to go in to the
local group policy editor, but this is not available on the thin client.  So basically my question is how do I enable/configure remotefx on a thin client?  I believe it is set up on the server side.
Thanks.

I've been doing a little research on thin client environments.

In particular has anybody had any good/bad/otherwise experiences with citrix or neoware?
I'm just trying to get a basic grasp of the whole lots of servers with puny workstations concept.

Thanks

Answer:Thin client environments

Not specifically the environment you are asking about but my last two jobs have both been with Sun Microsystems SunRay thinclients. I've worked for two school divisions that both have them deployed and they are generally well received. The model is awesome no matter what you run for software really, nothing like upgrading a handful of servers instead of a few hundred clients.
I think the thin client model is going to explode soon, most people at home don't need a powerful computer but rather a web browser and word processor, along with a music player, etc. I can forsee a telco deploying such a model...unless google beats them all to it

I have been asked to implement a thin client capability in a server for about 10 thin terminals. I was wondering if it is worth it to use the Windows terminal services or go for citrix.

I will also have to have the ability to use this server as a regular AD/exchange server for when users bring their own laptops and programs not standardized on the server (military atmosphere).

Is there a problem with using the server as a thin and fat client server with all of the basic applications?

I am not worried about licensing just the functionality and feasibility of the server.

This was just a request from our customer and figured someone here would have had experience with this sort of environment.

Thanks

Answer:Thin client question

It's not adivsable to have AD & exchange on the same box, let alone on the same machine with terminal server (let alone with citrix on top if you go that route), unless I am misunderstanding you somewhere.

From my experience, the only reason we use Citrix in my business is because of the nFuse web-portal to launch apps. If you can live without it, go with just Windows Terminal Server and save a bundle.

I'm trying to figure out how to, if possible, print from a thin client to a locally connected USB only printer. Anyone know?

The thin client model is: HP Compaq t5000
The printer model is: HP Laserjet 3005dn

Thanks guys!
-Dan-

Answer:USB Printing on Thin Client?

Yea it is possible but what OS in the thin client running? IE most run windows ce, xp embeded, or linux.

As long as HP makes drivers for the printer for the OS the think client runs it can be setup. I haven't messed with the hp thin clients so I really can't comment on what they run.

That printer has an ethernet port on it though. Why not just run it over the network?

Just wanted to poll for info on what thin clients some of you are using, and what you recommend. We have about 30 IGELs running their proprietary Linux distro and connect them to a Server 2003 box over ICA Citrix Metaframe 3. Need to buy some more, and I wanted to see if there was anything better out there. I saw IGEL is now selling their clients with a choice of Linux, imbedded XP, or Windows CE 5.0. Never messed with either Windows install on one of these; kind of scared of trying to get CE to play nice.

Ive used the Neoware clients, they use CE4 (NT4 style) and they work pretty good, but I just tried out one with embedded XP and its much much nicer

Hey hello!

Just yesterday I saw Acer Aspire R7, a 10 finger multi-touch tablet/laptop/transformer which was loaded with Windows 8 Single Language.

Problem is: I'd like to use the device to draw, but when I tested it (on store), the multi-touch become counter-productive and it keep registering my palm as "touch" when i try to write on it as if I try to write on a piece of paper.

What I know that in Windows 7, the Pen and Touch Control Panel have the option to disable multi-touch, while on this Windows 8, the Pen and Touch Control Panel only have 1 tab and does not include such option.

So the question: Is there any way to disable the multi-touch on Windows 8?

Thanks beforehand!

Answer:Disable Multi-Touch on Windows 8

In the touch pad properties in the control panel you will be able to un-check what's now called Pinch Zoom, I believe that will do what you need.

We currently are using around 50 HP t520 thin clients in our VMware View environment.  We have found the thin clients to BSOD(Frowny Face) right out of the box, and even after imaging it with the latest HP supplied image.  Curious if others have run into the similar issues with this model. HP tech support has been less than helpful and unable to resolve the issue.  We can reporduce it on our end generally by launcing the VMware View client.

Answer:Thin Client t520 Crashing

MCoopes. We recently received a batch of T520 thin clients (Windows 8) that are continuously crashing, even after reflashing the HP image. We even sent some units back to HP and they still crash. What we think it is over here is something in the t520 not playing nice with Windows 8. Up until this windows 8 batch, we had been using the t520 with windows 7, this was not an issue until 8. -Nick

Here's the scenario:

A series of small offices connected by 56k frame relay lines to the corporate office. 2 to 3 computers/users per office. We want to look into having the remote users run Office 2003 through a thin client, but I don't know which to use, Win2k3 Terminal Services or Citrix Metaframe. We run both in our environment, but only for lan users. I am very reluctant to think that either will be an acceptable solution considering the bandwidth limitations.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Answer:Your choice for enterprise thin client?

Actually either would work fine with your available bandwidth. I do not use citrix personally, but I have a great friend who uses it exclusively in his office for terminal emulation and its flat out awesome. A tad pricy but I would definately give a nod to citrix from what I've seen and what he has said.

Not sure how applicable this is to a windows 7 forums, but i thoughts i'd ask

I have an issue since upgrading office on my thin client server, i've gone from 2003 to 2007.

whats happening is, we use 'Track Changes' function alot as there are multiple users editing single files. some of the users use thin client access to the files through the thin client server, and now when we attempt to track a change made by a user under their thin client logon, it just states the update as being made by 'Administrator'

if however we open and edit the file on a normal workstation using a network domain logon, it all works fine

its purely a thin client problem and purely since the upgrade, it worked perfectly on office 2003

any input much appreciated

thanks

Ben

We recently purchased some t520 thin clients and already there's problems with the disk space. I removed a few programs and added a couple, but I've done nothing unusual to increase disk usage. The usual ways don't help, Disk Cleanup gives me just a couple MBs to free up. We have an application that requires .Net 4.6 but now I can't install it because of low disk space. The disk has a capacity of 16 GB but Windows itself is taking up almost all of that, and most of it seems to be located in the WinSxs folder. HP shouldn't sell these with 16 GB disks if its barely enough for the Windows installation. Please advise how to free up space on the disk.

Answer:Low disk space on thin client

I got some help elsewhere and was told to delete everything in the Windows/SoftwareDistribution/download folder, which freed up a few gigabytes, so I'm good for now. But still, these should come with at least 32 GB storage.

Hello,

I planning to add HP thin client t5720 in my home network. The primary purpose I have in mind is to use it as a NAS with attached USB harddisks .

I have some queries in mind since the thin client computing is new for me :

1. Does HP thin client t5720 has USB 1.1 ports or USB 2.0 port (not very clearly mentioned in its specs)

2. Does it support the installation of regular Windows XP Professional (by installing a 2.5 inch harddisk inside as guided on various websites).

3. Does it support USB boot to install any linux (Ubuntu) installation or a NAS OS like FreeNAS.

Would appreciate if someone using it in a similar environment setup can guide about the queries.

Thanks.

At work I have to log on to a thin client session on a server. This is where a central server is expected to serve multiple user like a desktop pc would serve one user. However I am becoming increasingly frustrated because as part of thin client, screen up dates get fed back to the computer. I often get to the stage where most of the screen, except random icons, turns 'taskbar grey'. This seems to happen randomly with basic applications like Outlook and Word. The user/system support team seem to be stumped by this problem and openly admit that they do not have any idea as to what may cause the problem.Does anyone here have experience/ideas for thin client systems?

I need to temporarily (1-2 weeks) measure the bandwidth a thin client produces when connected to the network. The thin client is a Wyse C10LE and it is connected to an HP Procurve 1810g-8.

I don't think that I can do it on the C10LE and I'm not sure if the 1810g-8 has any feature for bandwidth monitoring on a port.

What do I need to accomplish this?

You could setup port mirroring and then monitor it via that.

I found an old thin client that is very small { 4.5 in x 4.5 x 1.5 } at a 2nd hand store for $3 and it worked .  I installed dos 6.22 on it as it just had a boot version with a batch file on it . My question is should I switch to a hard drive instead of a dom { disk on module } . I read that the kind of flash for this machine is only good for 10000 writes before it degrades significantly , which seems rather small and would not last long when used in this fashion{ as a pc } By sheer luck I have a good hdd that will fit into it but I have no ribbon cable { 1 inch 44 pin ide } but it is 80gb and dos will only see the first 512mb { which is good as it will give max speed } How long would dos/win3.11 take to make 10000 writes?

Answer:Turning a Thin Client into a real Dos box

Quote How long would dos/win3.11 take to make 10000 writes?DOS is usually Read-Only, so as long as nothing changes no data is added or removed it would last quite a while. If you had something in your autoexec.bat or config.sys that required data to be written to drive, then you would have to worry about this I suppose if its frequently rebooted or you have some sort of program you will be running that instead of running primarily in RAM, it uses HDD as a swap or Cache etc. Windows is when Microsoft started writing to disk from the OS on every boot as well as during operation. If you go with Freedos instead of actual MSDOS, you could even possibly make this Thin Client boot off of a thumb drive and run everything from that. Even though thumb drives are generally slow for communications in comparison to HDD's and especially SSD's, the data quantity in a DOS like environment is very small and so everything should still run as quick as the thin client can process it. Such as a thumb drive can access and load a 48k file very quickly because the size of the file is lesser than the data bandwidth of say a 4GB thumb drive and so it would be almost instantaneous in a DOS or FreeDOS environment.

-runs ping test
-attempts to login again

Is there any way to bypass the startup and reconfigure the default connection type and server location? I can find very limited information on these and have no experience with windows CE. Can any of you point me in a good direction?
