laptop sometimes crashes on wake

Question: laptop sometimes crashes on wake

i have an alienware m15x laptop with win7 and a couple of times a week when i wake my computer up it goes to a blue screen and crashes. after it boots up again, it says intel boot agent ge pxe-e61, pxe-mof check cable. i googled it and people said that sometimes it tries to boot from a network, so i disabled all boot options in bios except the hard disk, but im still having the error. the drive is a 64gb ssd, and it's only a few months old, so it shouldn't be that right? also, i took out the drive and cleaned it with a q-tip as best i could, even though i make a habbit of not touching the terminals of connectors and i couldn't find any dirt on it, but that didn't work either.

Preferred Solution: laptop sometimes crashes on wake

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: laptop sometimes crashes on wake

ok, this happened again so i took careful notice of what was happening and here's some specifics:
it showed the windows logon screen with some elements missing (like the cammera's display for aliensence) then an element or 2 went away. after about 4 seconds it showed a blue screen for about a second. i couldn't read it all, but i did make out it saying something like collecting data for a crash dump. then it rebooted and displayed the following text:
intel(r) boot agent ge v1.3.35
copyright (c) 1997-2009 intel corporation
pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable
pxe-mof: exiting intel boot agent
operating system not found

after that i power down and reboot, and aside from lost data, i can logon fine (until it happens again)

I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago, it is a HP Pavillion Notebook. For about a week now, maybe even since when I got it, the laptop sometimes fails to wake up from sleep. The screen stays black, gets slightly lit up to gray, then the computer and goes through all that comes with that instead of waking up.

The event log shows a Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework error.

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

I have this big problem since I have received my P50 (at least for one year now). It is a 7600HQ machine with a Quadro 1000M video card. Let's say I start my day by turning on the laptop. The laptop boots. I see the Windows login screen. If I wait a little the P50 crashed very hard. The screen shows the artifact in the screenshot I have attached but sometimes I see an even color (like yellow) instead of the artifacts. The whole system is frozen. The lights on the keyboard do not react (num lock for example). So I hard reset the laptop using the power button and this repeats for around 10 times before it is booted correctly. And after this: the P50 is rock solid. It stays on for days at a time. Multiple VM's running, 32GB memory, M.2 SSD. Fully functional. So I thought it was Windows and installed Linux. This showed the exact same behavior. Some things to consider: 1. Only happens when I turn on the computer after some down time2. Once up it is rock solid3. Seems to happen more when I connect an external monitor (immediatly after connecting the cable). Both DP or HDMI show the symptoms. But I have seen it happen while using the P50 on my lap.4. All updates installed via the System Update app of Lenovo. Inclusing all BIOS updates5. Tried the hybrid or dedicated options in the bios for the video card. No change.6. It does not happen all mornings. Sometimes it boots up fine on the first try.7. Never happens in the BIOS or boot up screen. Only when the... Read more

Hi,

I got a Satellite U300 few days ago, and I am experiencing troubles when the laptop goes into sleeping mode.
The thing is that when it goes to sleep, the screen switches off, but the power indicator remains on (blue), instead of blinking with an orange color.

Then it is not possible to wake up the laptop, and the only solution is to reboot the computer.

I've been trying the different possibilities to get into the sleeping mode, and I get the problem mainly when the computer is in the Vista high-performance mode, and when pressing the switch-off key in the fast menu.

I know Vista gives quite some many problems, but I haven't seen anybody here experiencing the same problem.
Should I send the laptop back to technical support?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite U300 crashes and cannot wake up from sleeping mode

I have had opportunity to work a little bit with several Toshiba notebooks and one of them was Satellite U300. After short check of notebook basic functions I can say for sure that switch between running mode and standby/hibernate work well and I didn?t notice any problem there.

I really cannot understand what is wrong there but please do this:
- If you want to switch into standby choose option using START button.
- Wait a little bit and I hope after few seconds the notebook will change into standby mode (blinking orange LED)
- Close the lid
- Wait a moment open the lid and press power button
I really hope your notebook will start properly and you will be able to use OS again.

Bye

If you are experiencing the S10 with Vista crashing upon resume/wake up from LONG TERM sleep/suspend/hibernation there is some help from Microsoft here: Microsoft KB Microsoft KB1 The second article is more detailed in identifying the correct registry key. This problem with the S10 seems related to the usbvideo.sys driver used by the built-in Lenovo webcam so you have to find the registry key in your S10 associated with the webcam. According to the articles it is a problem with Vista and it exists in other laptops/desktops and other usb devices. These articles may also help if you are experiencing this issue with WIN7.

After the latest upgrade to Windows 10 Creators, my trusty T500 Thinkpad has (re-)developed an issue with waking from sleep.

It wakes fine but then goes back to sleep almost immediately. On the second attempt it wakes properly and stays awake. Video attached - apologies for poor quality.

Had the same issue when Win10 first came out and I upgraded from Win7. Managed to eventually fix that problem but can't recall what I did at the time. Power settings are for sleep only, no hibernate. The event log shows :-

Anyone else having this issue?.

The computer I have now will stay on when the top is closed, which is what I want. But when it goes to sleep I cannot wake it without lifting the top and pressing power. I use monitors and usb keyboard and I want to be able to activate the computer using it.

I have gone through power settings but there were no options to do this.

I went into keyboard settings and there was no tab with options to wake computer from usb even though other pages said it should be there.

There is a usb option in BIOS but it doesn't control this.

How do I do this?

First, I'm new here and don't really know the routine of asking for help, but here I go. Also, I should have no problem understanding or doing "complicated computer stuff." lol.

So this problem has been going on since I first bought my laptop from Best Buy two years ago (December 2009). It's a Gateway NV5302. Let me know if you need anymore specs.

Whenever I put my laptop to sleep, I get the "Resuming Windows" screen then that goes away and it just stays black. It never fully wakes up. But when I hibernate, it wakes up perfectly. I hibernate my computer just about every night. And restart it like at least once a week.

My temporary solution to fix the sleep issue has been disabling it. After several hours of inactivity, it automatically hibernates instead of sleeping. So I'm sorta disguising the problem instead of fixing it.

I read this thread: Won't wake from sleep mode And that still hasn't helped me. So any suggestions?

My Aspire 5251-1007 (Windows 7 home premium) won't wake up after it goes to sleep. I have to do a forced shut down and then reboot, then it asks if I want to start Windows normally. Pressing enter starts windows. Also sometimes it seems to respond very slowly to commands, while at other times it acts normally to key stroke or the mouse.
I tried doing a system restore to a time where I knew it was working properly but that didn't help. You've been able to help me with all my previous problems so I'm sure you can help solve this too.

Have tried a saucer of milk and bacon rind...No, seriously I have a Dell 9300, and the handbook is quite poor, it says to press "Escape" to change power management mode (or words to that effect) but the only way that I can wake it after hibernation is to press the power button. Although this works, on start up it says,"Resuming windows" and offers a trouble shooting and safe mode, which suggests to me that I'm not following the right procedure.Any help would be appreciated-thanks!

Answer:How do I wake up a hibernating laptop?

Hibernation is by definition - saving the desktop as its current state and the shutting down the computer. The resuming windows always appears on my Acer laptop." and offers a trouble shooting and safe mode"Now this I don't know about - you are quite right to power the PC back up after hibernation using the power button as its the only way to do so.The only difference between shut down and hibernate is that your desktop is saved as it is so it doesn't take as long to load up.The only thing I can think of is that there's a background task or program that doesn't like being left on when putting the laptop into hibernate.

This 15 inch touchscreen laptop operates on Win 10 - 64 bit.  It is connected to a HP 3005pr port replicator.  I would like to have the computer go to sleep after 15 minutes, but wake up with a click of the mouse.  I understand that this is workable, but I am having a challenge getting it to work.  (Presently I have to open the laptop and press the power switch to make it come to life.)Your suggestions would be most appreciated.Thanks.

Hi new user here, my RTM copy used to go to standby and wake up fine but recently when I try to power it up the machine will appear to start up, but my screen, keyboard and mouse do not wake up, also my wifi light does not turn on either.

The only way to get on to my pc is to do a hard restart.

When I close the lid of my HP dv2045 the computer goes into sleep mode. That's good, but about 10% of the time it doesn't want to wake up again. The "fix" I use is to give it a hard shutdown and reboot. Power settings are typical for a laptop. I'm wondering if anybody knows of a method of waking it with a dark screen up.

Since upgrading to windows 10 my Aorus X7 Pro won't wake from sleep. I tried disabling hard disk sleep since it's all ssd based and that works for a little while, but after a little while it's back to locked black screen when I try to wake it up. I've been hoping the updates would fix it... But it's still there same. Anyone experience this and have a fix?
Also, email barely works now. It occasionally downloads messages, but mostly, it doesn't. Works perfectly on my surface... So I know its not my internet. So far those are the only issue... So pretty good for a brand new OS release.

Evening all!

We've developed a few problems with our laptop and I'm not sure where to start. I know this is a great place for advice, so here I am.
Let me try to explain what is going on & if I lack any details that you might need, please let me know.

Laptop Acer Aspire - 7535 running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit

1st problem - seems to be getting very hot, even with the cooling fan

2nd & Bigger problem - laptop has not been shutting down correctly and also when goes to sleep, does not wake up.

Last week, hubby went to shut off laptop and it would not shut down the whole way. I came home from work and we ended up pulling the electrical plug to shut it off. When I restarted it later, had the black screen that says windows did not shut down properly.

Started in back up in normal mode and seemed to turn on properly.

Hubby says he also has had blue screen pop up when he was using it.

It seems to have this thing where if you do not have anything running program-wise and leave it alone for a while, it goes to sleep. The screen goes black.

When you try to jiggle the mouse, which would normally wake it back up, it does nothing. Have tried pressing the space bar, the enter key, and even opening up the cd/dvd burner and closing it with a disc in. It just sits there. You can hear a faint humming in the background like it is on but nothing else.

I disconnected the battery and several times we have had to just pull the plug on her and then wa... Read more

Answer:Using Mouse to Wake up Laptop

Hello,

This is the method I use to achieve what you want.
1. Open Device Manager from a right click on the start button.
2. Find the mouse driver and double click it to open properties
3. Go to the Power management tab and tick allow this device to wake the computer

When my windows 8 laptop is sleeping, I currently need to press the power button, which is awkwardly small and on the edge side of the laptop. I'd like to wake my laptop from sleep with a keypress.
I went into the keyboard settings but can't find a check box or setting that allows the internally connected keyboard to wake the system.

Answer:wake laptop on key press

Open an elevated command prompt and type this command
powercfg /DeviceEnableWake "keyboarddevice as shown in DeviceManager"

First you need to open device manager and copy exactly the device name and put it in double quotes

To see what devices may wake the system do this command
powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

If the first command worked one of the devices should be the keyboard.

We have roughly 120 of these Probook 470 units in laptop carts using external KB/Mouse. We are looking for a solution to wake them up from hibernation and have found no solution to date. Wake-on-USB is enabled in BIOS and deep sleep is disabled.  Within the Windows 7  OS the keyboard option to 'allow this device to wake the computer' is enabled.  At this point I assume the wake on usb is only functional for sleep/hybrid power mode. Any help with a remote WOL or wake on USB option would be appreciated.

I use my laptop as a desktop actually. It stays plugged in at my desk, and I keep it turned on during the day and just turn it off at night when I go to bed.
Lately, occasionally, it just goes to sleep and won't wake up. Mostly I come back to a black screen and just hit one button and it wakes up quickly. But once in a while I get this thing where it won't respond and I have to hit the reset button to turn it off and back on.
What is the easiest solution, given that it's used mostly as a desktop? Turn off the power saving features? Or what?
Thank you.

Answer:HP laptop goes to sleep, won't wake up

it could be the indexing service running in the back ground. Change the power saving feature to High performance and disable the Windows indexing service

Answer:Why can't I wake up my laptop once it goes to sleep?

One of the users in the forums have reported that the probable cause of that problem is the screen saver. Try disabling the screen saver and see if that stops the issue.

Hi there, I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook x64, i5, 2 Cores. It was working fine, until a couples weeks ago... update from Window 10 and did realized that my fan was overrunning, loud and laptop was getting hot.  So did some research and found that that some updates by HP might be needed.  I have always had my system automatically for updates, but did the HP assistance with what updates would be needed.  One of them was the BIOS.  I did all the update listed for my laptop... follow the directives as per the HP website. Since then... my laptop fan has become quiet.  Which is awesome.  But there is another problem that arised. If I leave my laptop unattended for a few mins or  close the lid, it will go to sleep mode, which is what I want but will not wake up from the sleep mode.  The power light is on... the internet light will show orange... I try all the options/ suggestions thought the websites (HP and elsewhere) as to how to wake up the laptop from sleep mode.  Nothing works. I did the trouble shooting with windows, with HP... still the same problem. Right now my only choice is to do a hard shut down and restart the laptop each time.  It is becoming very annoying.  I have read your website... follow the directions and still the problem did not go away.  I have turned off any window updates for now... have my display to go to sleep if unattended or lid close... still the same problem exi... A friend of mine has a Compaq laptop which she put to sleep last week. Now she does not remember how to wake it up! I don't remember the model and she can't find the manual.

I believe there is a keystroke combination that will get the laptop operating again but I don't remember what it is. Does anyone out there have a suggestion or two that I can pass on to my friend? She makes great lasagna (my reward for helping her).

Answer:Compaq Laptop won't wake up

I dont know a specific keystroke for a Compaq, maybe someone else can help with that. You might try control+escape, that activates the start menu on Windows. Plugging something into the pcmcia slot, like a modem, network card, etc, might work. You can always turn it off and restart, I am assuming you have a good reason for not doing that

Some background: at the end of January, I came out to San Francisco for a 12-week programming bootcamp. The laptop I owned was falling apart and running excessively loud, so I asked a friend if I could take his old computer with me since he just upgraded to a new one. It is a Fujitsu LifeBook T5010 (Wacom enabled, convertible tablet PC), and I wiped it and installed Windows 7 Enterprise.

It will not wake from sleep. It has been like that ever since the install, and I have tried a bunch of things to fix it. But first, here's what happens. I close the lid, press the power button, or click the sleep button, and the screen will fade and light on the power button will turn off. Then 2 seconds later it will turn back on, the disc drive will start spinning, but the screen stays black. The little light for scroll lock blinks for no apparent reason too. There is nothing that can bring it back other than holding the power button, and starting fresh after Windows yells at me because the device wasn't shut down properly.

Here's some info about my computer. When I run powercfg -devicequery wake_armed, I get a list of nothing. Just a blank output. I think something used to be there, but I disabled them. In device manager, I have looked through all my network devices, bluetooth, USB hubs, and unknown devices, and none of them are allowed to wake the computer. Powercfg lastwake returns "Wake History Count - 0". When I run powercfg -energy, I get 2 errors, one saying that my Gener... Read more

Obviously the keyboard keypress and/or mouse click can wake it up, but what other things? Mouse movement definitely doesn't wake it up.

I prefer to make it sleep rather than hibernate (hibernation is disabled, to save having a 32GB file saved each time). After choosing Win 7 Start menu then "Sleep", it will happily go into sleep mode. But then sometimes (not all the time), after finally getting to sleep and the fans go off and the illuminated keyboard goes off, it'll wait a second and then wake straight back up and show the windows fast login menu. I have to hold the power button for a second to put it back to sleep. Then it's 50/50 whether it'll wake itself up again. Sometimes I have go through this procedure 3 times to make it go to sleep. On other occasions it'll work first time.

I tried disabling the LAN adaptor's "wake on LAN" but that didn't make any difference.

Hi, I got a Compaq laptop from ebay with the following configuration

Compaq Pressario V6533EF

- AMD Turion X2 1.7 GHz x 2
- 3 GB of RAM
- Windows Vista Home Premium OEM (not SP1 installed yet)

Product link Compaq Presario V6533EF Notebook PC*

I have a very annoying problem

When I try to turn off the laptop using Start menu -> turn off, vista closes all programs and going to "Shutting down" screen and everything goes off (normal) but the problem is the power button is still blinking and no matter how hard or how long I press the power button again, my laptop won't wake up.

In order to wake him up, I have to remove the battery, unplug the power cord and the plug (one of them) again, press the power button (which is not blinking now) and....Vista is up and running normally.

I've been searching around for 1 week for the solution, post a thread in HP's support forum but no solutions, and then I found out that it seems to be a problem with ACPI and/or APM (Advanced Power Management), I upgraded the BIOS to the lastest version, but there is no settings for neither ACPI nor APM in BIOS configuration.

I downgraded the BIOS to a lower version, but no luck.

No problem with my battery or power cord, the sleep function works normally unless it takes quite a long time to recover my laptop from sleep mode. (no blinking power-button on sleep mode). Every drivers was downloaded from HP website and installed.

So I hope I can find a solution here, thank you!

Answer:Compaq laptop: Cannot wake up from turn off

You sound like you are in sleep mode. You might have incorrectly programmed your system to take a nap when you press power button. You should know.... next time you shut off with blinking light, do not click Power button to wake up or re-start. Just click any key.

If it wakes up from this, then go back to Power Plan and re-program. Make sure you enter Shut Down option for Power Button.

I did some research online and brief searching here and it seems that nobody else has a similar scenario to me. Please ask for more information if I did not include sufficient info.

Problem: I put laptop to sleep at night, I wake up it's on. I check Windows 7's Event viewer and I see really weird stuff. Today, I just caught it for the first time running when I was taking it out of a case when I was out of the apartment and I caught it putting itself back to sleep right after I pulled it out & it was running. So... the waking up to my laptop already on has been happening maybe for 2-3 weeks. The putting itself back to sleep just this afternoon.

Investigation so far: I used the command prompt, "powercfg" commands... and all devices are double checked to not wake up my computer.

When I test powercfg -lastwake NORMALLY it will correctly tell me that the Power button was used to wake it up as I actually did. When I run that command after I wake up to find my computer running... it gives me nada, screenshot included.

Event viewer shows events happening at the times that it wakes up. ONE WEIRD THING. IT always mentions the system time being changed... look at the 2nd screenshot.

Images attached.
Berlarc Advisor... should I edit it out? Is it too sensitive with my editing still?

Thank you very much for your time & help!

I have a huge problem with my ASUS laptop ( ROG G501JW ). I had unrelated problems with Windows 10 most likely caused by malware infection that had me use "Reset PC" option that basically performs fresh Windows 10 installation as far as settings go. After performing it I started experiencing problems with sleep that for past 10 months worked flawlessly. Aster using Sleep, computer would either reboot right away or reboot upon having me wake up my PC with all my open programs and whole session gone as if I pressed "reset" button.
I kept having my probably-malware-related problems and that finally made me replace my hard drive (I had old ones removed and performed fresh installation of Windows 10 using ISO from MS website). I have now PC that should work like brand new, with all the drivers updated (BIOS included) but the problem with sleep mode persists. So far I managed to only install 2 programs (Artlantis and Archicad) that I used before I started experiencing my problems and I think they are not the cause. I turned off windows 10 fast boot option but it didn't help.
I was advised to boot into Safe Mode and check if the problem persists but I'm unable to fin sleep option in Safe Mode. The only options I get from power button are Shutdown and Restart but in Control Panel under Advanced Power Plan Options displaying both sleep and hibernation is checked so the problem is not there. Answer:Laptop reboots after trying to wake it from sleep

This solution worked for me:

go to the support page of your laptop ( mine is asus g750jm), download the latest bios version (It's in the "Other" drop-down list for ASUS), unzip/unrar it, and update it using the WinFlash software (who is preloaded in the laptop).
and VOILA you can use your sleep fonctionality again

For those who can't upadte because WinFlash says you have already the latest bios version; open your file manager and go to

C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\WinFlash
Once in the folder of Winflash press "Alt" (Shift) key and right click (somewhere blank on the folder), once the menu shows up choose "open command here" ( or something similar , because my laptop is in french)
then a black command window should show up; type in that black window type "WinFlash /nodate" and press Enter. Then update your bios
this should bypass WinFlash and force the update even if you have already the latest bios.
During flashing if you get an error asking you to insert battery or whatever just remove the battery (WHILE PLUGGED IN) and insert it back.

Answer:Mysterious laptop wake up (logon 5)

It sounds like it was just an important wake timer and nothing to be concerned about. You can disable that....

Go to search type powercfg.cpl.
Next, you will see your performance plan your system is using.
Click on "change plan settings".
Next, click on "change advanced power settings".
Next, scroll down and open Sleep and then open Allow wake timers.
From there you can select enable/disable/important Wake Timers Only.

I just wany my PC & laptop (both on win 10 x64) to sleep at 8PM and wake up at 6AM. Sometimes the laptop does but I dont think the PC ever has yet.
In Power Options I have:
Turn off the display: 10 mins
Put the computer to sleep: Never

In Advanced Power Settings I have:
Sleep After: Never
Allow hybrid sleep: Off
Hibernate after: Never
Allow wake timers: Enable

I then have set a scheduled task to run a batch file containing:
Rundll32.exe Powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Sleep

And another scheduled task to run a batch file containing:
Wake Up!

Any help appreceiated, thanks!

Answer:Cant get my PC or laptop to sleep/wake to schedule

Is the schedule supposed to override the power settings? Did not realize that could be done.

Did you set the account that the scheduler items are supposed to run as? The scheme it uses may be the key. Running it as a system scheduled item might help it override better.

Hi Guys,

Please help me a little, I think I'm losing my mind.

I have an Asus Ultrabook, UX302L. It came with windows 8 from the factory, I upgraded it to windows 10, all nice and wonderful. About a month ago, I replaced my HDD with an Samsung 850 Evo SSD and I installed a clean copy of Windows 10 which I activated with my windows 8 key. All good till here. But after that my nightmare started:

I can't put my laptop to sleep, because when I try to wake it up it rastarts instead, and I lose all my documents, programs started before, etc. It literally drives me nuts.

I tried to install a older Intel Management Engine because I found out that the last one is buggy (and it is, I can't even put my computer to hubernate with it, the fans just keep running till it drains my battery, but with the IME 9ish at least hibernation work), I tried to disable fast boot, to install an older version of the integrated intel graphics card driver, tried to put my HDD's to never sleep, disabled hybrid sleep, set the AHCI link power management to HIMP/DIMP, etc.....

I don't know what else to do...

Waiting for your suggestions.

Best regards,
Allen.

Have a look at the Power Options Advanced settings: Enter Edit power plan in the search box and then select Change advanced power settings.

Check the settings for sleep and make sure that you do not have sleep going into hibernate mode by setting the value to 0 minutes

Hope this helps!

Hi there I am one of the people who leave their pc open for download while they are sleeping. Anyway I leave it open, and when I wake up in the morning to see the progress of the downloads, I see the same errors: (when I check the files that are shown there, I can't find them as they are deleted or gone somewhere else , I do not know)

These pictures are from a crashed and restarted computer, thus I lose my queue im emule which really upsets me. I do not use any virus or firewall software, I have done a recent format of windows (yes before the format it also happened) but the problem persists.

I never experienced this problem while I am awake. (MY computer is always ON , but it only crashes while I'm sleeping lol) I'm using a sony vaio fe31m with windows XP MEdia Center Edition (brand new) Thenk you all for your patience and helpfulness. Have a good day.

Answer:When I wake up I see that my laptop has restarted due to a crash

Well, since the problem is almost certain to be viral related and you use a completely unprotected computer for P2P programs (which leaves your PC wide open to the world of malicious software) do you really expect any different?

If you checked the rules on the way in (when you registered) you would note that we cannot help in any way with P2P, and in my view this issue (with your unbelievable choice to not use any protection) is likely the cause.

Stop using P2P downloading software, use antivirus software and you might just end up with a stable system?

The errors are just the symptoms of a major system crash and offer no specific detail.

Answer:Cant wake laptop from sleep mode

You mean STAND BY mode? It cannot wake up from STAND BY? Can you recall when this started?

If this is my case, I would definitely start with updating the chipset and video drivers (from Toshiba website) if this does not help, I will test my RAM and hard drive for any hardware errors. If hardware checks out OK, then I will surely consider fresh install of Vista. But then again, this is just my two cents.

Alright, this is getting pathetic. For two months since upgrading to windows 10, I have had to force shut down and then reboot my HP laptop every time I close the lid.
I have tried just about every solution google has to offer, and the occasional one has worked for all of about half an hour.
Im struggling to comprehend how Microsoft - an international corporation worth tens of billions of dollars and employing close to 100,000 people - cant fix such a fundamental problem with their latest operating system.

The laptop started and fell alseep on its own again at the moment, but this time the small light that usually is bleeping, indicating the machine is in sleeping, was completely off.

I am trying to use my laptop as an alarm clock for waking up in the morning. I put the laptop in sleep mode at night, and none of the alarm clock programs that I have tried have succeeded in waking it. I am able to wake it manually by pressing the power button. Wake timers have been enabled and hybrid sleep is disabled. It is an NP5125 from Sager.

Answer:Wake timers not working on laptop

Okay, I rebooted it, something I rarely do, and now for some reason it works. *shrug*

checked BIOS for any related s3/s5 settings but did not see anything

nothing in power settings about fast startup (to disable)

turned hibernate off with powergfg.exe

the laptop will wake from sleep to run the task, but will not wake from shutdown

this is not our first windows 10 machine, so we feel we really went thru all the 'normal' things to check. but we'd appreciate any help.

btw, it worked perfectly on the previous windows 7 and windows 10 machines. could it be this version of windows which came as a system image from lenovo? the previous win 10 machine had a retail license.

I put my laptop on sleep mode before taking 7 day trip (left unplugged so battery died). I tried to boot up my laptop today, but I don't see anything on the monitor screen (can't get to BIOS screen); I can hear hard drive spinning in the background. Both battery and "Z" green (not sure what this light means) lights are on...   any suggestion as to what I should try next? Seems like laptop went to sleep mode, but is not waking up from the sleep mode. I had to press power button to manually turn it off several times. Can this possibly be due to "dead" battery? Shouldn't W500 be able to power on without the battery as long as power supply is connected? Thanks

Answer:My W500 laptop won't wake up from sleep..... help

press the on/off switch 10 times and in 30 sec succession.

when i apply pressure to the centre of my laptop when closed, the screen touches the keyboard and wakes the laptop from sleep. how do i disable the keyboard from waking the laptop? i have tried keyboard properties under device manager, but there is no option for me to uncheck the "allow this device to wake the computer" option. note: hinge detection also not working perfectly, thus any solution involving the hinge detecting that the laptop is closed will probably not work.

Hi,
I'm new here, but I've got a laptop that just won't wake up. It's IBM thinkpad i series 1200 and I've put it in standby mode before without any problems. Now it does nothing. Tried to turn it off by holding power button down - nothing. Tried the trouble shooting things in manual - waste of time. So there it sits in standby and will do absolutely nothing. HELP! Anyone with any ideas - please send them right away. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Laptop won't wake up after standby mode

If you unplug the machine and remove the battery it should terminate the standby mode. Wait a minute and replace the battery and try powering it up.

Laptop does not wake up from sleep when either power button, keyboard buttons or mouse touchpad are pressed. A forced reboot is always required. HDD light off, monitor stays black and battery light and fan still on.

Have had this problem for over a week since downloading and using Advanced SystemCare and Driver Booster. Once the problem occured I uninstalled them but nothing changed. Also there was a few recent windows updates at beginning of March but haven't read anywhere that they are causing similar problems. Have tried the obvious fixes but nothing seems to work. I recently replaced Linux on my laptop with Windows 7 and since then I have had a problem that when I put my machine to S3 sleep for a long period, i.e. overnight, I wake up and find that the machine is in hibernate. This is unacceptable to me because I make a habit of writing as soon as I wake up, and the ten minute delay while the machine is coming out of hibernate means that I lose my thoughts. how do I get the machine to stay in S3 sleep?

The machine is a Thinkpad R61i and the third-party battery is showing signs of age, but I always leave the machine plugged into the mains overnight. And as I said, I never had this problem when I was using Linux.

Answer:I go to bed and laptop is in sleep. I wake up and it is in hibernate.

Yes S4 seems to be a feature in Laptops to save drainage on the Battery ...

How long does it take the Laptop to boot ?

Surely it must be faster that way ?
Have you updated your Ram ?

No doubt this is a "hardware problem" but here goes:

My hp 6735s laptop (vista) does not wake up from sleep/hibernate if put to sleep/hibernate and left alone for more than 25 minutes. Nothing seems to wake it up, until I restart the computer by pressing down (a good long time) on the power button.

Also, the "Sleep" button on keyboard has no effect whatsoever.

Small detail: I checked control panel -> keyboard, as suggested by one site and notice that my keyboard has no support for a wake fup unction.

Answer:laptop does not wake from sleep / hibernate

Try changing your sleep settings.

Go to "Control Panel"

Go to "Hardware & Sound"

"Power Options"

You will see such options as "Choose What The Power Buttons Do" & "Choose What Closing The Lid Does." Poke around in here and you should find how to change the sleep settings.

I played around in here the other day. I bet this will help you.

Good luck!

I have a Gateway Laptop model NV57H43u that I got for Christmas... It's running Windows 7 and overall a great computer! I'm having an issue with the power saving settings...
I usually shut down my laptop at night just to save power and the life of my computer, but during the day, I like to leave it ON... After about 2 hours of inactivity, my laptop goes black and pressing the keys on the keyboard, power button, clicking the mouse do Nothing! I have to hold down the power button for about 5 seconds (which I know can't be good for my computer) and then press it again to turn it back on... Then I get the 'Dos' prompt 'Do you want to start in safe mode or 'start windows normally' (I choose this one of course)...

This is what I've tried so far...
1. From my Desktop, I Right click and choose 'Personalize'
2. Then I choose 'Screen Saver'
3. Then the Screen Saver box pops up and I have 'Wait 20 minutes' and the screen saver 'Bubbles' is selected...
4. Then Under 'Power Management' in the same box, I click on the Blue Link 'Change Power Settings'
5. Another Box pops up and I have two options, Balanced (recommended) or power saver... I have Balanced selected!
6. Next, I select 'choose what the power buttons do' and my laptop is usally plugged in, so the screen says, when I press the power button -- shut down; When I press the sleep button -- Sleep; When I close the lid; Do Nothing(I chose this because I like to plug my laptop into my flat screen via hdmi and have a... I have a HP Notebook Laptop connected to an external display with a unifying wireless device - the Logitech K400 Plus Keyboard. I put the laptop to sleep to save battery power. Now here's the problem; I'll have to physically open the screen door just to get it to wake and its something I do not want to do every time. I'd have to open the screen door to press the power switch. Thanks.

Best regards,
Allen.

Answer:Wake from Sleep - Laptop Reboots itself

Hello Allen and welcome to the Ten Forums

Have a look at the Power Options Advanced settings: Enter Edit power plan in the search box and then select Change advanced power settings.

Check the settings for sleep and make sure that you do not have sleep going into hibernate mode by setting the value to 0 minutes

Hope this helps!

I've got an idea in my head of using a laptop in my car for media reasons. I'll be using a power inverter to power the laptop, and it will turn off while the ignition is off. I want the laptop to sleep when it loses AC power, and then I want it to wake when the AC power is restored. I can get it to go to sleep mode no problem. I just have no clue how to get it to wake up. Is there any software that could do this?

My laptop started taking extra long to wake from sleep mode immediately after upgrading to Windows 10. The problem has persisted for several months. Startup time seems normal, and the computer enters sleep mode quickly after shutting the screen. I always choose to receive updates automatically, so all updates, drivers, etc. should be up to date. There is no new software installed since the upgrade. What happens is when I open the laptop and strike a key, touch the touchpad, or move my wireless mouse, the light around the touchpad comes on, so I know the computer is trying to wake up, but the screen remains black for various amounts of time- sometimes only 30 seconds or so, but most of the time several minutes, until finally the lockscreen appears. I've checked to make sure the keyboard is set to wake the computer under Devices. I've searched for a solution, and although there are instances of people having the same problem, I have not found a solution. I've listed my system specs that I think would be pertinent. Thanks for any help regarding this issue.

Hi I have a Logitech DiNovo Edge Wireless Keyboard and a Logitech M510 Wireless Mouse.
I have a problem though. I already searched EVERYWHERE and I cannot find and answer.

I can't get my laptop to wake up by pressing keys on the keyboard or by clicking the mouse. The only way I can get it out of standby is to press a key on the actual laptop or click something with the laptop's built it touchpad.

I already tried looking in Device Manager but there is no Power Management tab for the keyboard or the mouse. There is only a Power Management tab on the laptop's built in keyboard and touchpad.

It's kind of annoying not being able to use the wireless devices to wake up the computer.
I've read around that maybe it's because since the computer is on standby, the wireless keyboard and mouse's USB receiver aren't being powered by the laptop.

I have no idea what to try now and it's irritating. Does anyone here have a solution?
It would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Answer:Make Laptop Wake Up With Wireless Keyboard?

Go into the Power plan by searching for power options.

In your power plan, go to change advanced settings

You will find in this list, a section called USB Settings

Disabling the Suspend should allow the USB devices to continue working when the computer sleeps

I am not sure if this is the right board to post this question in, but I am having the same issue with two HP Pavilion 13-a113cl laptops that are running Windows 10 Pro (64-bit). The issue has to do with waking the machines from sleep using the keyboard or mouse pad. I am not having any issues with them waking from sleep using the power button or when I open or close them. I checked the BIOS and the power settings aren't there. (BIOS version F.32)I have the boxes checked to allow the devices to wake the computer in the power management section without any success.I have changed the Intel MEI driver to 9.5 instead of 11 that is typically installed  without any success. I am not sure if this is an issue with the BIOS and Windows 10 or something driver related. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So my laptop has the latest drivers and updates installed but ever since I've installed Windows 7 I get a black screen after trying to wake it up from sleep mode. When I put it to sleep (close the lid or do it via the start menu), everything works fine. It gos to sleep and the light starts blinking. But once I open the lid I can hear the sound of the hard drive starting & the wi-fi button starts to glow, it literally resumes from sleep but the screen stays black. Everything else works fine but not being able to put it in sleep mode is really a big problem for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

My wife has a COBY 10" netbook, we use a NETGEAR N150 Wireless Router and for some time now, whather she boots from a cold startup or "wakes" this laptop, it has lost the network connection. It gets the "Wireless networks detected" message, sees our Security-enabled wireless network, but instead of automatically connecting, it always asks for the network key.
I have a second laptop (Toshiba Qosmio) that I only use some othe time, primarily for vacations, and when I turn this on it always connects right to the network, even if we've been away and connected to a hotel network. I never have to use the key for our home network once I get back home.

She's getting pretty fed up having to constantly put in the network key on the COBY, this should be a "set it once" and it should remember it should it not? I'm sure it used to, have I missed something?

Answer:Solved: Laptop not connecting to wireless on wake up

That Coby 10 has the following wireless card
WLAN Type 801.11b/gWLAN Solution Atheros AR5007EG

Presuming that you are still using that and IT IS on xp
Go Control Panel network connections, and check that the LAN network connection is disabled.
If it is it will say disabled. If not right click and disabled the LAN connection. Then right click the wireless adaptor
and click Properties.. On the window that opens click the wireless network tab. Now look and see the networks listed in the small window. Using the Move up and Move down buttons to the right of that window, place the one you want to connect to at the top of the list - presuming that there is more than one listed. As you will see that it says connect in the order listed.

If there are others shown that you DO NOT use, click the remove botton, having highlighted the entry concerned.
Before leaving that window - is the small box - use windows to configure my wireless network settings checked
if not check it.
See if when you leave as below it will accept that setting - it depends on how the setup is configured.
Now having again clicked to highlight the one at the top of the list - OR NOW the only one click the Properties button. On the window that opens and presuming that your other details will not need changing, click to check the small box -connect even if the network is not broadcasting.
Enter again the network key and confirm the key

Now click the connection tab at the top of the window and click to check the sm... Read more
