Preferred Solution: Wats the most juice i can get out of my system

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Wats the most juice i can get out of my system

Hey man, looking at your specs im guesing you would not get much out of ur RAM seeing as it is 133MHz and prob unbranded, the cpu however has got potential, i have never owned a P4 so i dunno much bout them but i have seen people get an increase o about 400/500Mhz with 1.4ghz P4's so there is hope! I had a 9200 once an i couldn't get much out of it, got bout 30mhz core increase and 40 mhz ram increase before i started getting artifacts all over the screen!

Tips - If overclocking the CPU invest in a high quality cooler to let you get the most out of it.

To be honest you could do with a complete upgrade but if thats all you got then happy overclocking! let us know how u get on!

So first off.. here's the specs:

Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 3.57Ghz (420x8.5)
8.0 GB G.SKILL DDR2-1066 RAM @ 841Mhz (I don't know why, that's what my BIOS says)

Any other information I need to give you? I just want to know if it's possible to get my proc up to 4.0Ghz on this system. Thank you

ok, this is probably in the wrong section but o well, anyway, when i finally get a job as a computer tech, if i recieve an order for a format and reinstall, but i have a suspicion about the issue or with the person, something having to do with being a stolen computer or an illegal serial/license, do i go on with the order or do I call the manufacturer asking for information or call MS asking who the license belongs to?

Answer:wats the right thing to do?

Simple's entirely up to you!!!

Do as you please... .

But if I were you, I'd just do the format anyways! Saves hassle, and probably prevents me from possibly being attacked by suspected computer stealing guy .

whats the differnece bettween a wired router and wired switch . ethernet?

Answer:wats the difference

A router is a device that forwards data packets along networks. In home networks the router is given the IP addy assigned by your ISP and then distributes IP addy's to the terminals connected to network -- most commonly with DHCP.

A switch works much the same way, without the IP address control.

Answer:Wats Happening To My Computer? Help!

Your system is terribly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show. Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution. So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused. In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start. Reason I am telling this is because when a system is so terribly infected and we try to clean this up manually, the damage that is already present may interfere with our removal attempts. One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan. This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute filesI would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords wh... Read more

i cant believe im having problems with this (ive taken the cisco CCNA course), but after reformatting the older comp (comp 2), i cant get the newer comp (comp 1) onto the network. ive done the normal xp network wizard, but the newer comp will error out no matter what setting i put it on. so i did everything manually, setting the ip addresses, resetting and reconfiguring the router, but all i can get is that each computer can see the other, and i can access files on the newer computer using the older computer. however, the newer computer cannot access the older computers files. thanks for any help.

I'll recommend the easy way, even though some forum members can't seem to understand why it works. Install the NETBEUI protocol on both machines, and I suspect you'll be browsing after that. It's on the XP CD in the VALUEADD directory.

ive got this new computer (spec.. 3.2Ghz intel 4, 2GB RAM, radeon 9550 128mb graphics card, audigy 2 sound card, xp sp 2 etc..)

i installed Rome: Total War and the Return of the King games today - and either only a small amount of time (after the intro for rome) or a longer time (when i wanted to exit on rotk) the game freezes, u get a jit jit repeated through the speakers and its inexitable. u have to restart to get out of there. these games played ok in my other comp, jst was very slow when running huge battles in rome.

im jst wondering if this sounds like a problem anyone here has had before, or if they have an idea wat it cld be. i think its pretty impossible that its RAM or hard drive related - coz they are top end. i intall the directx 9.0b that rome comes with - doesnt seem to take much time installing tho - its jst the acceptance screen and then the finished screen. i also downloaded and installed directx 9.0c and its not helping.. also, my old and favourite game 'civilisation: call to power' doesnt play at all. u click on play and nothing happens. i think that's all i know really... any help appreciated

Answer:graphics card? wats wrong plz?

most likely it's a graphics driver related problem. Try the latest ATi Drivers, or maybe the modded Omega ATi drivers.

for proper driver installation, get Driver Cleaner Pro, uninstall the driers from add/remove programs, boot to safe mode--run driver cleaner, reboot and install new drivers.

Question: Needs More Juice

I've been using a Nvidia Geforce 6800GT in my pc, ever since they were cutting-edge and when I installed it, even though I hooked it up to my psu, I knew the card was only just getting enough power (recommended power is 350w, my psu is only 305w). As a result, it's always run pretty hot, but it never gave me any serious problems. Until a few weeks ago. I started getting artifacts on my bootup screens and sometimes power to the monitor would cut, and I'd have to use the reset button. This became more and more frequent unitl now it's nearly a given that it'll happen when I (try to) start up my pc. Finally, after what I think was a random loss of total power, my pc rebooted with a message from the graphics card which went something along the lines of
"The nvidia card is not getting enough power and has rebooted with lower settings to reduce power consumption" or something to that effect.
My question is: why now? Has my power input suddenly been reduced even further, or do you think the graphics card may have been slowly damaged by use and abuse?
Is there any point in trying to fix this as is or do you think replacements are necessary?
I should probably add that I opened up the pc, took out the graphics card, de-dusted it, checked all the connections and put it back in. It booted up for me this time....
Any suggestions?

Answer:Needs More Juice

It's your're killing it...I'm suprised it lasted this long! For $30-40 go buy a decent Thermaltake or Antec. Your 6800 is probably just fine.

Hello, accidentially I spilled some juice on the keyboard of my lenovo 3000 n200 0769 bwg and it (the keyboard) just stopped working. When I removed that little cover above keyboard and lifted keyboard (still conneted to laptop), everything works fine. But when the keyboard touch to the little pieces of metal underneath, keyboard stop working:-( There are no visible marks of juice on the keyboard or laptop anymore but there could be a bit somewhere inside. But why the keyboard works when it doesn't touch those metal pieces?Any ideas how to fix this please? Thanks a lotMessage Edited by jerryjacobi on 05-31-2008 01:12 PM

Answer:juice in the keyboard

I had spilled water accidentally on keyboard and it started behaving strange. Some keys stopped working..but after a little bit of warming, I think, the water evaporated and the keyboard returned to normal. In your case, I wouldn't suggest to dry with a blower or use hot breeze on keyboard.I'm not sure but may be u can try using a cleansing liquid instead to wipe out keyboard parts, but be careful as once u loosen a key, its not easy to replace it back.

Question: Orange Juice

Here is one for you technicians?????????????I have a Compaq Presario laptop Model V 5101 us. Purchased in 2006.

This morning I spilled about 1/2 glass of orange juice on my keyboard. I immediately wiped it off---turned computer upside down- and went for vacumn cleaner an vacumned for several minutes. It was running at the time........and is:

still running ok. I have searched on internet , sent and received emails, etc. No problem I know of.

I still would like to know where in the heck that orange juice is and is there a way I could clean it out with q tips or something?

I am not a beginner but I am not a technician either. But I think I could take it apart somewhat if I knew exactly what to do.

Or should I just leave well enough alone. One other thing. The orange juice had metamucil in it so the computer got an enema plus some nutrician.

Sure waiting for some opinions other than telling me to keep orange juice off the computer desk. From Nebraska but in AZ now.

Answer:Orange Juice

Orange Juice, Metamucil or not, will become sticky when it does dry our finally causing problems with your keyboard. Such as and not limited to Stuck Keysand Corrosion from the Acid in the Orange juice. Opening the Laptop and cleaning the juice away is really the only thing to do. Here is the Maintenance and Service manul for your computer. It covers Keyboard removal and reinstallation as well as other things.

i got me 6 (2 led) case fans and on tornado fan on my cpu (sounds like power saw). also got two hard drives and three dvd/cdr drives, grapgics card, sound card. planning on gettin a 9800 so thats another power sucker. my comp has 400 watt power supply. is that enough or should i take out a few things.

Answer:how much juice does a comp need?

That depends on what KIND of PSU it is.... If it is some cheap thing that came with your case than it could be an issue. Basically you get what you pay for when it comes to a PSU. For example go into your local pc store and pic up a $30 psu and then pic up a $100 psu, your going to notice that the $100 PSU is twice as heavy. Along with that look at the power ratings, particularly the 12v output. Your going to notice that the more expensive PSU is going to put out a more efficient current.

If you think your PSU is decent and you cant afford a newer better one. Try it. Worse comes to worse it will burn out and you will have to get a new one anyway.

But I think 400 watts might be cutting it a little thin with the amount of devices you are running/going to be running. But I could be wrong so anyone feel free to correct me. Put it this way I have 7 case fans, 1 HS FAN that runs directly to the psu, 2-rom drives, 3 hard drives, video card that requires power and 2 cool cathode neon lights. And I have a decent 500 watt PSU wich does fine. Would I run a 400 ? Probably not. With numberous devices on your system that require power, the bigger the better in a PSU.

And as I said before you get what you pay for in a PSU but dont pay too much. If you see a 500 watt PSU selling for $125 look at one for 500 watt $65-100 and compair the power ratings. Most of the time you are paying a extreme amount due to a name. Antec, Enermax, Thermaltake. Anything within 475-500watt ove... Read more

That pretty much says it all, my daughter spilled orange juice on her keyboard. My knowledge doesn't go past blowing or turning it upside down and shake shake shake (oh wait thats a song) :-D
Anyway, help would be appreciated, thank you

Answer:cleaning juice off a keyboard

Some say you can put a keyboard in the dishwasher while others say absolutely not. I don't think I'd try it in the dishwasher. What I would try for juice, because it is sticky and the keys eventually won't type properly is spraying it with distilled water and then letting it dry for 2 - 3 days. I'd probably have someone hold the keyboard upside down so what I sprayed in would drip out and maybe carry the dried juice with it.

With me being a moron, I accidentally spilled apple juice on my laptop. I would explain more but im typing this with the on screen keyboard. After spilling I soaked it up with a towel. It was fine for a half hour or so when o started coming up in a continuous stream like "ooooooooooooooooo" followed by "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii". I turned the laptop off and shook it to knock out the juice. I fetched my roommates hairdryer and blew it it on the laptop from a distance. i removed the back panel (its a dell studio 1537) and had it turned upside down to dry overnight. The next day It would boot up and the 3 volume control pads above the keyboard would flash but the num lock would work. I disconnected the keyboard and it would boot but not all keys would work. Help? PS: I had partially removed the plastic on the back of the keyboard and gently washed off apple juice residue with a damp cloth. Big no-no, im now aware of this. This all happened on Tuesday December 8th. Please help?

Answer:Apple Juice + Laptop = Bad

First off, the hair dryer is also big no no. It can melt stuff (important stuff) and is just not a good idea. Second, when my cell phone went through the washer, I took a bag of rice, removed the battery, and put the phone in the bag, making sure that rice got inside it (better rice than water). unfortunately some keys didn't work at first, but as the day went on, the more times I pressed the buttons, the more they work. If worse come to worse you might have to buy a new keyboard.

My laptop is a Dell Studio 1555.A few days ago, I spilt orange juice all over the keyboard. I turned it off straight away, took out the battery and left it to dry. I also removed the keyboard to clean with water, and then dried and replaced it. I tried to turn it on about 10 hours later but nothing happened when I pushed the power button. However, I tried again the next day and it turned on, but the keyboard didn't work. I'm hoping that this can be fixed by just replacing the keyboard, but is there a chance that a problem with the connections is causing this?Another problem I have found is that the laptop will not boot up if the battery is in. At the loading bar, it reaches around 3 quarters, and then stops. The laptop boots up fine if the battery is removed and it is powered by just the mains. I have tried using another battery, but the same thing happened, so the problem is not with the battery itself. Just now, I inserted the battery with the laptop already booted, and it worked fine, recognising and charging the battery. I then removed the power cable, and it carried on working. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be, and whether it will be easy to fix?I have not found any other problems so far...

Answer:Spilt juice on laptop :(

I think you will be lucky if the Laptop ever works properly again. It is likely that some of the juice found its way to the motherboard and connectors. The sugars in the juice will be corrosive and cause problems. If you can I would suggest you consider claiming on your household insurance.

My wife wants to run her hair straightener (flat iron) in the car during long trips.
Can this item pull too much juice and harm the car or battery?

Answer:DC to AC car adapter, can you pull too much juice?

It would depend on the power rating (wattage) of the straightener - if you pull more than about 130 - 150W through the average car wiring, either the fuse blows or the insulation starts melting/burning! (also I would suggest not running anything mightier than 100W for more than 10 minutes per session, then cooling it off a bit).
I trust that your wife won't be driving? ;-)

Hey Guys,

I'm seriously running out of space on my PC, and want to invest in a 160gig hard drive to run with my existing two.

AMD XP3000+
1 gig DDR ram
DFI Infinity NFII Ultra
2 HD: 80gig each - 1 partitioned into 2 - 50 & 30gig - total 3 Drives: C,D & E
Chaintech GeForce 6800 GT 256
Audigy 2 ZS Platnum Pro + mixer
Creative Inspire P580 5.1 speakers
XP Home - SP2
PSU: Tagan 380watt

If I buy a 160 gig HD, Can I simply add it without any worry of power etc?
I've a 30gig Creative Jukebox / Digital camera that I use every so often via USB. Not to mention a touch of overclocking with the GeForce 6800GT.

Would an external HD be an alternative idea?!

Thanks in Advance

Visiontek ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256MB AGP

80GB Western Digital 5400RPM HDD with 2MB buffer
NEC DVD +/- RW 4x
56K modem
3 cold cathode lights
7 fans

My question is, do you think my 500W PSU is enough for all this, or do you think I need more? It is not a TruePower PSU, so I guess it doesn't consistantly run at 500 watts. I would think 500W is enough, but regarding my 8 fps in Doom 3, I am not sure. I was thinking maybe it was my PSU not getting enough juice. Excuse my ignorance once again.

So I've been slowly building this computer and today I went out and bought the memory and the cpu cooler. I got home, put the baby to bed and put it all together. When I went out, I figured that you could buy a power switch. Little did I know that they don't sell them separately. I'm not using a case. I couldn't wait any longer so I took the one out of this computer and tried it on the new one. Nothing happened, no juice, no smoke, I read the mobo manual about 4 times, after two hours I just gave up. I'm on a shoestring budget, and I've gone real cheap. The motherboard is a Gigabyte ga-m61pme-s2p, processor is a AMD 4400 It's a dual channel, but I only bought a single gig of ram. When I started trouble shooting I took two gigs out of this machine and tried it on the new one. The manual recommended a 500w PSU, but I'm not going to use any cards and it didn't say I couldn't use less. For some reason the first component I bought for this thing was the PSU it's a Diablotec 400w thing that was $20. So I guess I'll start there. One thing I'm wondering is if the ATX switch from the HP may not match up with the panel header on the motherboard. They were both 9 pin but I think the HP only used 6. All this time I've been thinking I should have just saved the cash and ordered it all from newegg or somewhere at the same time but i didn't. I still wouldn't have the switch though. I'm sure I've though... Read more

Answer:ATX switches, Diablotec, no juice...

Motherboard headers have no universal configuration (God only knows why).  You have to make sure that the power switch lead is in the correct spot. Check your manual for the correct location.   It's also possible that the PSU has a switch near the plug (I'm not familiar with Diablotec).

I used the power supply calculator and it came out to be 297 watts. I'm going to use an Athlon XP Barton 2500+ and overclock it to 3200+ speeds. This case that I really like comes with a 380w power supply, so would it be sufficent for the overclocking? I said the processor was a Barton 3000+ when I used the calculator. This can save me some money in the long run and I guess I could upgrade the power supply later if I had to.

You?re out and about, and your smartphone?s battery is about to die. Maybe you?re at an airport, hotel, or shopping mall. You don?t have the power cable needed to charge the device, but you do have a USB cord that can supply the needed juice. Then you spot an oasis: A free charging kiosk. Do you hesitate before connecting your phone to this unknown device that could be configured to read most of the data on your phone, and perhaps even upload malware?

The answer, for most folks, is probably not. The few people I?ve asked while researching this story said they use these charging kiosks all the time (usually while on travel), but then said they?d think twice next time after I mentioned the possible security ramifications of doing so. Everyone I asked was a security professional.

Granted, a charging kiosk at an airport may be less suspect than, say, a slightly sketchy-looking tower of power stationed at DefCon, a massive hacker conference held each year in Las Vegas. At a conference where attendees are warned to stay off the wireless networks and avoid using the local ATMs, one might expect that security experts and enthusiasts would avoid using random power stations.

But some people will brave nearly any risk to power up their mobiles. In the three and a half days of this year?s DefCon, at least 360 attendees plugged their smartphones into the charging kiosk built by the same guys who run the infamous Wall of Sheep, a public shaming exercise at DefCon aimed at ... Answer:Beware of Juice Jacking

When I used Android Studio, it was necessary to enable the debug mode for transferring my project on the phone and in our case, if this mode is active, it is worse.
In fact, an Android smartphone with debug mode enable, it is able to receive various types of administration commands via USB and, in this way, it is possible to install malicious applications. Each smartphone connected to a computer (in this case, probably hidden in the charging kiosk) actually works like any other removable device (like a USB stick for example), and any computer can send a malware to your phone.

my son recently spilt his juice in my laptop.
it still works up to a point.

apart from:
- inbuilt mouse and keybrd
- internal battery

but the two main problems are:

1) it now takes around 7 minutes to boot (before it was under 30 secs) and sometimes fails completely just hanging with blank screen.

2) internet connection is erratic. Sometimes won't connect at all and if it does it usually gives no more than 2 minutes use before automatically disconnecting.

.. so what have I tried:

- reinstalled XP
- upgraded to XP sp2
- checked modem settings

I'd appreciate any suggestions (short of buy a new one..)

ok people brace yourself for this one...

my computer is connected to my house network through a usb wireless device and it has worked fine since i got it. i use p2p programs often and found that the limit on half-open connections is too low for me so i set out to find a fix after finding many sites that resommened and used the lvllord fix for this i got it and ran it. it said i had to reboot which i decided 2 do since i had also installed a utility for a new mouse that i got, which also needed a reboot.

so i rebooted my comp, can connect to the network fine, signal strength good, dhcp is working, but i cant access anything on the network. i cant get google, the router, the modem or even other computers on the network. so i think that the patch did somethin bad to the tcpip.sys file when i ran it so i hit the unistall button on it (though it says that the limit is still at 10 andnot 50 which is wat i changed it to??) i hit unistall, says it failed somethin 2 do with windows changin the file or somethin. anyway i thought that possibly the utility i installed did somethin (very remote, but nonetheless) so i unistalled it and rebooted, nuthin.

so i tried disconnecting the usb dongle and running a network cable and hooray it all works again. so that ruled out the .sys file being bad. so i thought id unistall the usb dongle and reinstall (maybe the driver didnt like the patch). but device manager locked up.

so i thought ah well, deal with it later gunna watch a video then maybe... Read more

I think I may have an underpowered USB problem (see my IOgear post). I know you can buy powered hubs but I don't want one in this application.

Does anyone know of a USB cable Type A Male to Type A female (simple extension) that also has either an add on AC adapter plug OR a plug that plugs into your existing Power Supply would work as well. I would like for this extension cable to be short if possible as I don't need any true length I just need more power... God why do I think of Star Trek when I say I need more power...
Basically here is the situation I need - Type A Male from KVM - short almost non existant extension Type A Female to Type A Male with some kind of external power source - Type A female socket in MB.

Also take a look at my post on the other thread and tell me if you think that "adapter" that plugs into 2 PC side USB ports might do the trick without having to get any extra power plugs or anything.

Answer:Add extra juice (power) to a USB 2.0 connection.

Many small 2.5" external disks come with a dual headed USB cable, the second is just to draw an extra 0.5A of +5V to power the disks. There are also PS/2 connector to power cables that used to come with those disks. If you get desperate, you can even make your own USB to power connector cable from a USB cable, I've also done that.

Hi all.

Have been wrestling with my new computer for a long long time now. The thing is that it freezes while running games etc. The computer stops respondning totaly and i have to reset it in order to get it to work again. The problem occurs after about 4-6 mins in the game (AOC).

First of all I thought it was due to heatproblems with the processor. I diagnosed it while playing and at the time of the crashes the processor is at 43 degrees C and the memory is at 38 degrees.

Since im running 2 GPU G-force 8800 GT SLI this was the next step for possible errors. Perhaps 750W powersupply isn't enough to keep 2 GPU's up and running. Due to this I unpluged one of the GPU's and tested the game on only one graphic card, still the same problem, should not be a problem with 750W for only 1 GPU.

Then I noticed something strange when i ran "dxdiag" (see below). No matter if I had 1 or 2 GPU (each 512mb) (non SLI/SLI) it said that I had "Display Memory: 2284 MB", "Dedicated Memory: 493 MB" and "Shared Memory: 1791 MB". Shouldn't display memory be 512mb or tops 1024 when in SLI? Could this somehow lead to the problem when the computer tries to access memory that simply isn't there? If so how do I solve it?

I run Windows Vista ultimate 64bit, if that could be the case??
Im also running my memory (corsair 2*2gb TWIN2X2048-8500C5D) with the settings of 5-5-5-15-2T (2,2 V). Not sure what the 2T implies, but have... Read more

If this sounds bizarre, it's probably because it is. I moved to a different city a few months ago and left my laptop with my family by accident. I've only just visited them and seen the state of my laptop. (Lenovo y50-70)
I decently know my way around it as I've replaced screens before. The issue is, my little brother "spilt" apple juice all down the side of my laptop. The screen barely works but the internals seem fine, so I ordered a replacement.
I guess it's been there for a couple months with no intervention as two screws are stuck with VERY sticky apple juice.
My main question is this: How can I get the screws unstuck? The screwdriver I'm using worked like a dream on the first 2, then came the apple juice..
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi, I have recently spilled some fruit juice (sweet and sticky) on my t410's keyboard. Here are the problems caused and the different steps I took to try and solve them : 1. Switched off the laptop, waited a day. Switched it back on. The laptop worked normally except for various keys, mostly in the first row of letters (qwertz...) that didn't work (didn't react when pressed), and others who were sticky and got stuck when pressed. 2. Took out the keyboard and soaked it in alcohol (normal alcohol as I couldn't find isopropil alcohol) to wash out the juice deposits. Wiped with towels, then let it dry half a day. Put it back in. It was worse than before, the power button seemed to be shorted or sth. The laptop could not be tuned on with the power button. It could be turned on using the fingerprint reader though. But then it had a strage behaviour, kept turning on and off on its own. 3. Took out the keybord again, removed all the keys, including the power/mute/volume... Sprayed it repeatedly with contact cleaner (Vistony brand, made in Peru) . Then let it dry. This didn't improve much. 4. Waited over the week end, tried again. Now the power button works. When I turn on the laptop, before it can boot, it beeps repeatedly and shows an error essage : "error 210 stuck key : 10". Using an external USB keyboard, I can press escape, and boot to Windows. But the laptop's keyboard is unreactive and there is a continuous beep (frequency of about 2 beeps per second, c... Read more

Answer:T410 : keyboard problem after juice spill

dondrito, welcome to the forum,
I admire your determination to save your keyboard, but honestly feel it's time to part yourself from it and accept it has sadly departed and find a replacement.
An option would be to attach the system to a port replicator or mini-dock, which have power on switches, detach the internal keyboard from the mainboard and start the system from the port rep. or mini dock after attaching an external keyboard to either or your notebook. Not a good solution if you need to travel.
p.s. a port rep. or mini-dock will cost more than a keyboard.

Laptop: Thinkpad T500OS: Ubuntu 9.04 (recently updated, was running 8.10 at the time of the accident) A couple of months ago I spilled some orange juice in my T500 (not much). I promptly shut it off and cleaned it as good as possible. I turned it on after about 20 hours. What happened first was this: Ubuntu booted up normally, but immediately felt very sloppy. I was able to start Firefox until the computer stalled, except for Firefox. Firefox operated normally, but I was unable to click anything else (menu bar buttons, desktop icons). Sometimes everything would stall and I was unable to do anything. It seems to me that my mouse clicks somehow freezes. I can click on a button or icon and then I cannot click on anything else before I have made an right click. I accidentally knocked over a glass full of pink lemonade and went in my flatscreen monitor. Now i can't play games because they crash. The screen flickers while the game is up just before it has to load any high res. My guess is that when the juice splashed into the monitor, it got in the A/V cord and travelled into the hub of my graphics card and fried it. I'm still able to use the computer just fine, just no games.

just built a system with this mobo, and the case has 2 usb ports on front that are plugged into a usb header on the mobo, and I have a card reader plugged into another usb header on the mobo as well. this card reader also has one usb port. mobo has 4 usb ports on the back. usb mice and kb, as well as usb network adapter plugged into the mobo, all working. small thumb drives will work in all ports, the hitachi 320GB external wont work in ANY. I tried going through the bios and seeing if I could find something. I also set the jumpers from 5V to 5VSTB figuring it wouldnt change anything and it didnt.

I had to use this old rockband powered USB hub for the external and now it works fine. the external even came with a usb cord with 2 male ends to give it additional power if one port wasnt enough. I figured maybe somehow one header didnt have enough power, and after both plugged into the case didnt work, I plugged one into the case and one into the card reader and same problem. the drive just makes a sound similar to what a 1.44 floppy sounds like, like it keeps attempting to spin up and then restarts over and over.

I should note this drive doesnt so this on a HP DV6208 laptop or acer aspire one 533 netbook.

my sister has this same drive style (250GB though) and had identical problems on her older macbook, but it worked fine on a gateway laptop, my old compaq cq-51 laptop, and their 27" imac...

is there anything I can try/do to boost the power to the onboard usb po... Read more

Answer:Biostar TA880GB+ USB problems, work but not enough juice for external?

The iMac is totally different, it has main's power continiously, like a PC does.

I take it the drive doesn't have a dedicated power source then? What is the problem with running through a powered hub if that works?

Personally I've always used powered external hard disks, purely because of the power draw from USB.

Are you using other devices plugged in via USB at the same time?

Hey guys, Im hoping someome can help me. As the subject states my IdeaPad will not charge when i plug it in.  By the time i realised the problem i was running low on power and in trying to find a resolution to the problem online the power went and my laptop cut out. Now i cant turn the machine on or charge the laptop as the laptop doesnt want to know.  Ive tried using different sockets etc and im pretty sure theres nothing wrong with my charging lead.  The problem seems to of come out of nowhere. Has anyone been on the same boat?   Cheers for your help all.

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 battery is out of juice and it wont charge

Hi thePirate,
Welcome to the community,
The fact that the laptop has an internal battery limits a bit the troubleshooting I can provide.
Are you able to get a hold of another power cable to try completely rule out that it might be the charger?
If not then realistically the only thing I could recommend is to get in touch with support and to arrange a repair.
Sorry I couldn't offer more help.

Not a lot of juice spilled but apparently enough to hurt my laptop. It spilled on the top right corner of the keyboard and I immediately wiped it all up and the laptop seemed to be fine. I turned it off and when I came back to use it, it would not turn on. It also made a sizzling noise on the top right side. Help!

View Solution.

Answer:Spilled juice on laptop and worked fine until I turned it of...

The sizzling sound was likely the sound of your motherboard shorting out (dying). The juice probably gradually seeped down inside and when you applied power again- zap. For what it is worth now-any time liquid is spilled on a laptop it should immediately be powered off, battery & power cord removed and the laptop placed upside down for at least 24 hrs to drain any tiny bit of liquid.

Hey guys,

I got one the the sSatellite A305 series an i couldn't find any threads on this exactly.
Basically whats up is had a minor orange juice incident on the left side of the keyboard luckily not a lot of juice just minor.
I managed to clean most of on the surface. And had to work it pretty good to get it out of the speaker area.

However, some of the keys are a bit stick now, an i was wondering if there are any safe removal techniques i should do before i try jamming these keys out. Hmm pressing enter seems to submit... anyways..

I had one of these laptops before a few months ago but one of the keys broke somehow, so after that I got a bit worried since i had to basically return it and get another working laptop. So im pretty sure it was a faulty key with the last one as i didnt not play around with any keys, but im not sure how durable these are. Also this will probably help too in learning how to clean the keyboard, theres a bit a of dust and grump under the spacebar which has been botherin me an i have no idea how to remove it an get clean the dirt underneath.

I'll check this post in the morning when i wake up. If you know any good removal techniques please explain, im not very good with directions so bear with me.

Answer:Satellite A305 - How to clean the keyboard after juice spilling

To be honest you will never be able to clean the keyboard up. Splitting water is maybe not so bad but juice is ?sticky? and cannot be cleaned properly.
I am afraid you need new keyboard. :(

Hello out there.
I have spilled my L350-24U with Orange Juice.
Now i have 4 Sticky Keys :-(

Can someone tell me how to clean the Keyboard without damage the notebook?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L350-24U: How to clean the keyboard after spilled orange juice

Hmm? this is always stupid situation?
Usually you could remove the keyboard from the notebook very easily.
The keyboard is fixed with some screw hidden under the thin plastic cover near the F1-F12 button row.

If you would remove this plastic cover then you would be able to remove the screws as well. Then you could lift up the keyboard carefully and could disconnect the flat cable connection the keyboard and motherboard.

Note; in order to disconnect the cable two tiny latches on both connector sides needs to be moved.

Then you could remove the keyboard and could clean it using a wet lint-free cloth.
PS: the button caps can be removed too.
But you need to be very careful. You need to lift up the button cap in order to get it free.

I experienced a serious problem over the weekend that is forcing me to restore my system using the Win7 (64 bit Home Premium) "System Image Recovery" tool. I'll cut to the chase because I cannot, unfortunately, access any of my system restore points nor is startup repair working.

My computer has 4 different hard drives. On the c: drive, I only keep the Win7 OS and my various programs. All my other files and data are stored in the other 3 HD's (my data only hard drives).

On one of these HD's I have a System Image from about 2 months ago. I would like to restore this image using the Win7 "System Image Recovery" tool. However, there are various other files and data on this HD in addition to the System Image I would like to restore.

If I use the Win7 "System Image Recovery" tool, will it only restore my c: drive (which is what I want) or will it restore all HD's to their original state from 2 months ago?

I plan on unplugging all of the HD's during the restore process except the c: drive and the backup drive containing the image. However, I do not want to lose any newer files on the backup drive containing the System Image.

Will I be able to restore my c: drive using "System Image Recovery" without losing any new files/data on my backup drive containing the recovery image?

Answer:System Image Recovery - Does it recover just the system volume or all volumes in the system?

It will only restore the drive that the image was taken from.

Hello everyone and thanks in advance for anyone that helps.
I am really troubled as I have been googling the hell out of this and trying many solutions with none of them working.

1) My pc first entered a loop when I tried to remove mcafee with their official remover. After the required reboot it could not enter windows no matter how time passed so I had to power it off.

2) Because I didn't like powering it off in the middle of something asking me NOT to power it off, I tried to system restore to a restore point 1 day prior to the event.
The system restore failed and gave me this error I believe 0x80070091
Googling to solve the problem asked me to rename the hidder windowsapps folder which requires some tinkering to do so. I tried to change the ownership and although I followed all the steps I could not rename this folder.
3) I then decided to try a system repair instead. It also failed and gave me this error C:\Windows\system32\logfile\srt\srttrail.txt.
Googling suggested that i do a chdisk or something on command prompt which I decided to not do before I backup my things since in the past I got wiped.

4) I backed up my computer and decided to do a windows 10 system reset. There are supposedly 3 options. A) reset but keep your files, B) reset but keep nothing and C) factory reset.
Not all PCs have factory reset and mine neither. I did option B and when asked about the sub option of making a full clean drive ( to protect you from getting your deleted ... Read more

Hi, I am a total newbie, so please have patience...: I want to install a new ssd-drive, which is empty. I did create a DVD under rescue & recovery. But on startup with the new hdd, it only offers me a restore option, not a NEW system. R&R also only created ONE disc, imho thats not enough, dont I need some more for the whole system? And I cant backup the whole windows system, because even though its fresh its 80 gig (some data was taken along, dunno which)...And thats my problem in a nutshell: I cant create discs with ONLY the windows install-system, or rather I dont know how - I now tried 3 times, and R&R burns only ONE disc, and booting from that, it asks for a recovery. I want a new fresh virgin system... Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I tried a couple of times, did not work. Had to swap back the old drive to work again. System: Windows 7 professionalLenovo L520 Thanx for any help!

Hello together, i have a problem with our System X3650 M4 Server, Machinetype Model: 5462G2G. I downloaded an imm and an uefi update file from the lenovo website.First i updated imm through the imm2 website remotly.Update did go as planned, i restarted th imm2 and after about 5 minutes the new imm2 was working an accessible,Then i tried to update the uefi bios from version 1.01 to 2.31 , also via the IMM2 -> Servermangement -> Server Firmware -> Firmware upgrade option.I Uploaded the new file lnvgy_fw_uefi_tce128i-2.31_anyos_32-64.upd, then started the upgrade process. It went through fine, and after the sucess information i was prompted to restart the OS.After 30 minutes, the server was still in System State = running in uefi mode. When i checked back to the server management -> Server firmware rab, it said UEFI Primary, Status pending, Version 2.31.Then i "powered off" the server, and restarted it 5 minutes later. All status boxes are green, but system status is still in "system running in UEFI " Mode, it wont start with the OS (VMware) Does anyone have an idea how to fix the problem. The Server also has a secondary bank with the old bios version  1.01 , how can i switch back to this backup BIOS? Many thanks in advance, i am getting a bit desperate here. The server should be operational tomorrow morning again.

I removed the 'file_recovery' virus and got everything else back to normal using:

which included using unhide.exe, but now I think my system files are all showing, even though I have checked 'hide system files' and 'do not show hidden files'.

If I go to a place where I think there are supposed to be system files that are supposed to be hidden (like windows/system32) and show the 'attributes' column, they say 'A' (archive) is the only attribute.

Shouldn't they say 'S' (system) and 'H' (hidden)? If so, is there a way to put the 'system' and 'hidden' attributes back on the appropriate files (without doing it manually one by one because that would take forever and I wouldn't know which ones to do)?

I am running Windows Vista.

Thanks! unhide.exe really saved me!

Answer:After 'file_recovery' virus removal, system files lost 'system file' attribute

That's not possible.May be you could ask for Grinler opinion here luck

My Thinkpad X131e intel i3 model turned off suddenly a couple of days ago. Since then, after pressing the power button on, the system status indicator is blinking red all the time and I can't boot the system. The screen is blank and the only activity seems to be the status indicator blinking.I was able to boot the system twice, but it turned off suddenly again without time to enter in my session. Most of the time, just system status indicator blinking red all ad infinitum.Any idea to save my loved laptop ?

satellite 1900-803 OS-XP-Home(SP2) has developed a fault at startup, it boots up but only has dull screen (equivalent of lowest screen brightness setting) and some icons missing from the system tray in the taskbar, (ie. safe hardware removal icon, mousepad icon & hide unused icon button), only fix i have found is to do a system restore, this returns everything to normal, screen icons etc, once restored no more problems occur even after hibernation, (restore point must be an automatic system generated point not manualy created)

Have checked display drivers, bios updates, system settings in display utilities etc, all appear correct and up to date, can anyone help, i've checked forums but not found anything similar, i've checked, reset connections of screen FL invertor, but no change, fault occurs whether on AC or batt.
suspect software issue? bios issue?
machine is 4 years old, and no real probs till now, did a full system reinstall about 1 year ago, (to iradicate virus i couldn't get rid of all ok after that, fairly compatent at machine disassembly and basic repairs but depths of software are getting to my limets of knowhow:D
any help would be greatfully received

Answer:Satellite1900 dull display at system boot + missing functions in system tray

I have read some topics about missing icons in the system tray. It seems it?s is a windows bug.
Please check these forum postings:

Maybe it helps.

I can?t say too much about the dull display. Of course if the Fl inverter is dead the display appears dull but you issue sound a little bit different. The problem doesn?t persist whole time. Therefore I think it?s not an inverter. Usually the Toshiba power saver is responsible for the display brightness. You should check the settings of the single power modes. Maybe you have switched between different power modes and the screen brightness was also changed.

I've had the System Integrity Scan Wizard, PC-Antispyware, and Security System Protection Control Panel popups. They've been very stubborn but after reading some of the posts here and running Spybot, Adaware, SmitfraudFix, Panda Activescan, Housecall, Stinger Avert, Windows Defender, and SDFix, I am now getting only one popup, which shows up as a blank white rectangle in the center of the screen (and now I can't click "Close" to get it off the screen, since the "Close" option is missing). Answer:System Integrity Scan Wizard, Security System Protection Control Panel

The blank popup appeared to be repopulated with information over time...apparently the spyware refreshed itself. I also learned from Task Manager that all of my popups were from the System Integrity Scan Wizard. After some more searching, I found the name (in my case, yzqrqzkp.exe) and told Norton Firewall to block it from accessing the internet. I used HijackThis to fix it and then deleted it and a namesake ( from Windows\Prefetch (not sure that was necessary but deleted it anyway). My only concern is that from what I read, there should have been another copy in \Local Settings\Application Data, which I didn't find. I updated Java per instructions in another post, also turned System Restore off and on. I think the PC is now clean, but would you review my latest HijackThis log to be sure? Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

If you have access to another computer I'd suggest you create a system repaiir disc.

System Repair Disc - Create

It won't re-install Windows, but it will get you into the advanced recovery environment, from where you can run chkdsk.

It does seem highly likely there is a major problem with your hard drive.

hey guys,
after boldly trying to fix this problem on my own though I am not a technical person I am now in a dead end.
- my system is xp
- obviously my pc is infected with the system check or system fix trojan.
- in fact the icon on my desktop says "system check" but all the problems (hidden data, false warnings, everything) are identical to what is described in "remove system fix"
- I have done all steps described in the very understandable "remove system fix guide" (maybe I was wrong, mixing system fix an system check?)
- rkill has found something, I could post the log
- everything worked until I tried to install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- i could not finish the installation process, when I click "install" there come?s something like "access denied" (english is not my mother and computer language)and then " the setup could not be finsihed. please fix the problem and start the setup again"
- that is basically the status quo....
What should I do? I have no idea...was so happy to find this guide, and now something does not work....Do you need any further information?

Best regards and thanks for reading!

I have been using Perfect Note from the Windows App Store for around 8 months. I had stored a multitude of very important information in the app.
After using it today, exiting and going back into it, I found everything had vanished. It is like I just installed it. It shouldn't have done any updates from the store, as I have to manually update any app that I want updated.
I hoped to use some recovery software on the PC to search for the files. I sent an email to the app developers explaining the situation and asking if they know of a way to recover what was lost, why it was lost, and where my files would be stored and what their file extensions are.
I got a reply back the same day. They were polite and said that they were very sorry for what had happened, but did not answer any of the questions that I had asked.
They did point out that there is an option to have the notes backed up to OneDrive. I can't imagine that I would have known about that or seen it and not set it up for use, but apparently I did not, since there is nothing in my OneDrive account.
I hooked the phone to my PC, but you are not able to access a real file system, only folders that MS has allowed. This is not the file system that I need. The recovery software also cannot access the phone, so that idea will not currently work.
Anybody with expertise in this area, help please?

Answer:Is there a way to recover lost files, or gain access to a real system file system?

Ya.. you can gain access to the windows file system.. It's a bit tricky though...
After that.. I'm not sure if recovery tools will be able to read that "drive" ...

I actually had to clean install latest 10 build.....make a new system image (this part im not sure was needed but it didnt see my saved backups from before for some reason.) i have never had to install a new os just to restore a windows system image back up before. (it kept telling me the image was corrupted) but it wasn't lol....Obviously reinstalling win 10 on my ssd fixed something but what it was i have no idea! This pc never crashes.....It crashed in the middle of watching a movie (bsod) and when it rebooted it said no os found.....Maybe a virus got thru Defender? My best guess is my ssd glitched (would be the first time for that)I hope it wasn't an update lol

Answer:Something finally hosed my system - and first time in 10 years a system image didn't work (at first)

Run the SSD tool for your particular brand and see what it is reporting. Maybe it can help point to something simple like a firmware update or failing cells.
