I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Music/sounds coming from my laptop 4 no reason...

This individual had the problem and here if what he did to clean up.

I came across a forum posts describing files called "rootkits." A rootkit installs itself on your system and accesses your administrator privileges. This way, it can control parts of your system (e.g., hide from your anti-virus software and disable new anti-virus software that might kill it). Rootkits are hard to find... most people suggest reformatting your entire hard drive to get rid of them, but I'm in Madrid, Spain right now and without all my files I'm screwed so I had to find another way. It took me several hours to figure out how.

It is, indeed, a pain to remove, but after a few trial-and-error steps I manged to clean up my machine.

Here's what I did:

Absolutely first, make sure you TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE. Otherwise the nasty little digital bloodsuckers will keep coming back to life. You can turn it back on when your machine is clean.

1) Downloaded Malware Bytes' Anti-Virus, a super and easy-to-use little tool that turned out to be way better than my Spyware Doctor even. Here's a link: Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer. Download, and try and install and run it. If you get away with it good for you, you might be able to save yourself some hassle. If not, don't worry, it just confirms that you're probably dealing with a rootkit. (Now that it sees Malwarebytes it knows it's days are numbered and it wants to keep it from opening).

2) If Malwarebytes doesn't open (which it probably won't, the icon'll just sit there after you double-click) you will need to try and go after the rootkit at the source and either cripple or kill it. There's a free tool for that [link removed]

3) Install and run .....[edited]. The rootkit didn't block this when I tried it. Make sure you scan your whole hard drive! (The first time I tried it I did a quick scan and it just came up with a couple bogus registry key entries, which were good clues but not delete-able). When Sophos finishes running you should find any rootkits that were hiding on your hardrive. Mine were clustered in the System32 folder and were all files containing UAC or uac. This is the UAC rootkit. (google it for more info)

4) Clean those files and then reboot your machine when prompted.

5) When you reboot you should be able to install and run Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes will find the remaining straggler rootkit files and any other rootkit or virus-related unpleasantness

6) When the scan finishes delete all the infections. You will have to reboot to finish deleting all of the files.

7) Run Malware Bytes one more time to see if everything's gone. It should be. By this time, you should no longer be experiencing any of your symptoms if it worked.

Reactivate your system restore and you should be good to go!

Figured I'd try and help since y'all provided me with evidence I wasn't crazy when I first started hearing clicks and musics coming from my machine!

Hi guys!

Today I received my new Acer Aspire 1363WLMi notebook:

AMD Sampron 3000+
NVIDIA GeForce FX Go 5200,64MB
512MB DDR Ram

for further specs just ask or can be found on the acer UK website.

All was fine untill we switched it on...there is a persistant crackling noise coming from the speakers (one speaker louder than the other), this continues even when sound is muted.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your time people, it is greatly appreciated!

Best wishes, Jelfs

It could be some sort of interference. Do you have a Nextel phone near to the laptop ? Nextel's are notorious for causing interference with PC speakers.

If not a mobile phone or walkie talkie, does this sound also happen in other parts of the house/office ? If so, it could be some sort of defective hardware or loose wiring in the laptop itself. Since it is new, contact the manufacturer for more assistance.

I have an Acer 7715Z and three times in the last week I have had the laptop play an internal "tune" it's not beeping its more like what a dial up noise is. when it happens my laptop is on mute as it usually is and Im using IE. I have done a scan with AVG as I was worried earlier in the week I had a virus but nothing is coming up.

I have had a new hard drive fitted already this year after my old one failed so obviously I am very worried this is going to happen again.

Any help would be great.

Answer:music starts playing my laptop for no reason?

This may be caused by a virus/malware/spyware. scan your computer with anti-virus and see if it still pops up. To stop it temporary, ctrl alt delete, process, close all internet explorers or w/e brower you use

Hello all,

My Laptop has been randomly playing sounds/music/ads for the last few days. Everything from music, random noises (like beeps, and pots and pans banging together) and now ads - and the interesting thing is, they are AUSTRALIAN ads (I live in Australia)... It must know where I am, from my IP address I guess, and target the ads accordingly???

Anyway, I have failed to remove the problem. CA Trust VET antivirus, Ad-Aware Free and Prevx have all failed to help.....

Oh great - Now I am listening to a "Strepsils" ad, "giving me relief from a sore throat, any time, anywhere..." Great! If I ever caught the prick that wrote this one, they would need more than a Strepsil!!! (sorry guys - rant mode OFF).

Logs as requested are attached (I un-installed Daemon Tools, and uTorrent before running the logs)... I have access to an XP install disc.

According to the logs, perhaps an MBR issue? "Use: "mbr.exe -f" to fix."? Or perhaps use TDSSKILLER by Kaspersky? I will wait to hear from the experts!

Thanks in advance!

Hi there, for the past week my laptop has been playing random ads and music even when no windows have been open. I ran malwarebytes and that did not find anything, I then ran malwarebytes in safe mode and again it found nothing. I also have CCleaner and SuperAntiSpyware installed (which has not detected the threat).

I am using Windows 7 operating system and Internet Explorer as my default browser.
I use my Laptop for leisure so there are no bank details or personal details to gain from it.

After some research I have decided to make an account has I have visited this site from relevant searches and viewed that other people have been having the same/similar problems to myself, but reading more into it I have read that I shouldn?t be following the steps myself unless told to by an expert, hence the reason I am now here.

Even creating an account for this site wasn't as straight forward as I used my yahoo email to verify that I created an account, however my yahoo email has now been compromised and I could not log in to it. I then tried to answer the security questions that I had set but my answers were wrong and now I cannot access my yahoo account, so I am now using my Dad?s email address and switched to the home computer.

Also other problems I had was when google searching, the links would send me to gambling sites, which when I clicked back did not send me back to my search and i would stay on said page (in fact even when I was on a page I wanted to be on, I h... Read more

I was on the net and I got a message saying I need to upload my Java in order to continue which I did. Next thing I know my whole system went down and I was able to bring it back up via a system restore point. I then installed norton and ran a scan as well as spybot and Malware bytes Norton didn't find anything, spybot found a few adware and malware removed a few things. Everything seems to be functioning properly except that I get random ads coming through my laptop whether I have a browser open or not whether I have a program open or not. At random intervals I get ads and/or commercials playing through my laptop and they last anywhere from 10 to 20 seconds. Help!!

My sound is just buffering all the time for no apparent reason, what could have happened?

Answer:Sounds Buffering for no reason!

Hi rockinaway

Can I assume that you are referring to the buffering of an audio stream from an Internet source?

You could check the obvious first - if you've a broadband connection, see if your ISP has had any repair work on their network ongoing in your neighborhood during the period of time you've experienced your slowdowns. If you've added a significant extra load to your background processes lately, see if there are any you can trim - or at least pause during the music playback & resume aftwerward.

And scan for malware - they take up system resources, too.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[If you've been experimenting with different settings for your communications devices, and now things seem slower, you also have the option of trying a System Restore to a restore point from before the slowdowns].

I have a Compaq Pentium 4 computer which has audio ports at the back and the front too.
The front has 2 audio ports for mic/ headphones and the back has 2 ports also (one for speaker and the other for mic)...
But when am playing music or something that has a sound on this computer, the sound comes from both the system and the mic.
I dont like it in a way that the sounds should come from the system because it disturbs so I want it to come out from the mic alone when connected but it should come out from the system when mic is not connected...
I have checked from the systray volume icon when I lower the volume, it affects both system sound and mic performance.
When i go into volume advance settings, I see the following tabs:
Volume Control, Wave, CD In, Line IN, MIDI, Microphone, SW Synth and CD Player volume controls...
When i mute Waves, it stopped the system from using sound effects and the mic also stops when i unmute the waves, the sounds come back again,.
How do I get the mic working only when its been inserted into the audio port and the system sounds not working whiles mic is in audio ports?

Computer spec is
Intel (R)
Pentium 4 CPU (2.40GHz)
248 of RAM

Hi everyone

I recently purchased some Bose QC25 headphones and for some reason they seem to only play some audio through the left headphone e.g. watching a video and voices will come through clear on both but when there is music playing during the show it may only/predominantly come through just the left headphone.

This issue doesn't occur with some earphones I have.

Any ideas as to why this is would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Answer:No sounds coming through speakers

Your cable pairs to the pc could be broken or the soldering got loose. The light on means that your speaker amp is ok. It's not likely to be sound card failure. It's a simple fix by any technical guy.

Hello there and thanks for your time.
The computer is an ASUS A7V600-X Sempron 2800+(2GHz) 768mb of ram and a NVidia 5500FX 256mb video card.

I hear the noise when I try to play games, while trying to see videos on youtube and even when I'm just scrolling down with Firefox. The noise progressively increases and sometimes it freezes the screen.

I tried using the computer with another hard drive, other video card and different RAM sticks to no avail.
I tried reinstalling/updating the video card drivers and that didn't fix the problem. I also tried using a Linux distro called Knoppix and it didn't make any noise or crashed, so I'm guessing it's a software issue.

Anybody knows what is up with it? I'm out of ideas.

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong subforum.

try going to master volume and check to see if your wave sound isn't set too high
double click on your speaker next to time or go into control panel and click on sound and audio devices and then in the volume tab, click on advanced and check the wave volume
lower it if too high to see if this will help

Got some speakers for my PC and they make an annoying whistling sound and when my PC makes a noise like a disk whirring it is amplified through the speakers.

Also, when I scroll up and down a webpage for example it makes extra noises.

What can be done to remove this background noise?

Answer:Computer sounds coming through the speakers

No system specs including what type of sound "card" and what type of speakers - analog connected to the PC's GREEN speaker out jack or USB.

Some of those sounds are standard windows sounds that can be enabled or disabled in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound. Click on "Change System Sounds" under the "Sound" entry.

A high speaker volume setting will tend to make those system sounds more noticeable.

I've had this Compaq for years and have never had something like this happen. The noises that I am getting are not just pops and fuzzes. They are actual sound effects and sometimes really weird music. I also get advertisements on occasion. This has to be some kind of spyware, but McAfee isn't picking it up with Virus Scan so I don't know what to do. All I know is that if I end some of the processes that look funny in Task Manager the noises stop.

I have troubles with my speakers....

Basically, the sounds that are supposed to be coming out of the right speaker, comes out the left and vice verca. I went to volume control to confirm this (by moving the slider each way) and it is definetely coming out the wrong speakers.

Does anyone know how to sort this? The speakers are just the basic desktop speakers that connect to one lead and plug into the back of the base unit.

Answer:Sounds coming out the wrong speaker

Welcome first off!

Weird problem.

Do you have the speakers set up correctly?

Left speaker on left side, right speaker on right side?

Do you hear sounds coming out of both at the same time?

when skype plays sounds such as incoming call or new message it reverts all sound back to the internal speakers.

e.g. if i am playing music over the external speakers when i receive a skype call the music and the ringing will play over the internal speakers and when the ringing stops the music goes back to the external speakers.

been looking online for a fix for a few days now, it seems a lot of HP laptops are also affected so i think its a problem only affecting HP/compaq.

thanks, alex

EDIT: I've tried every possible audio output setting in skype.

RE-EDIT: skype
Windows 7 home premium 6.1.7600 Build 7600
ATI High Definition Audio Device w/ IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

hopefully thats all the info you need

Answer:Skype sounds coming out wrong speakers

I haven't tried External speakers on my laptop, but have you set the prefered order of output devices under Tools | Options | Audio settings | Show Advanced Options?
I think if the internal speakers are listed first, it will use them even if the externals are connected.

I don't think you can separate it from the music though as the ringtones are wav files, but should be able to keep it from switching to the internal.

I don't have a set of speakers handy to test with though, so I may be wrong.

I tried several things like ruining Malwarebite, CCleaner, Anti-Virus and look at my Google extension if there was a problem but it still didn't fix this damn issue! Do You have any suggestion? So, today while I was playing World of Warcraft, my computer started making strange noises at me. At first I thought I had left an internet tab open or something because I kept hearing commercials and pop news highlights coming through my speakers. But after making sure that everything was shut off, the noises kept coming. Upon further inspection through my volume mixer I found this strange program producing noise but it had a "No Name Available" as a descriptor.

I have run Malwarebytes Pro and Combo and uninstalled everything that I had run today but it still persists. I even did a full system restore dating back a couple weeks yet the noises keep coming. PLEASE HELP! I have no idea what's causing this and it is literally driving me batty. Any ideas?

I bought this Thinkpad Edge e420 two weeks back, and I'm starting to wonder what a normal level of noise is for this laptop. Whenever I run Google Chrome or any other program, there's a high pitched beep-like whine that emits from the HDD in the upper left hand corner of the laptop. It definitely doesn't sound normal to me. The only things I've done to this laptop post-purchase have been uninstalling Norton and installing Avast! Antivirus and installing MS Office pro (32 bit). Can somebody help me out here?

There is something seriously wrong with my computer! Almost as soon as I turn it on, while it is booting up and after it already has, it starts making these strange sounds. One strange sound is this awful clicking noise...rhythmic clicking. click. click. click. click. click. The other sound is a...screech. The best way to describe it is like a bad channel on television sounding scratchy, or like the screech of an old dial-up Internet (but I have DSL!). It's awful. And while I'm using the computer, it freezes a lot. So, what should I do? Does anyone know what the problem is? There is no CD or floppy disk in my computer. The last time my computer made the click sound, it was because I got the silver part of a floppy disk stuck in the floppy drive. But I replaced the floppy drive, and haven't heard the clicking sound since then...until now. I don't think anything is wrong with the floppy drive or CD why would the clicking sound come back? And the screech noise - I've never heard it before. Can someone PLEASE help me? I'm desperate here!

Answer:click and screeching sounds coming from computer..

Quote...There is no CD or floppy disk in my computer...Same thing happened to one of my computers, that screeching noise could be heard all over the house.  My guess is the hard drive is on the verge of failure.  Stop what you're all important files to floppy disks or CD's.  Once completed, find out the manufacturer of the hard disk drive, download test diagnostics from them and test the drive.

I just did a system restore to yesterday, hoping it fixes the problem. But this happened on a previous installation of Windows 7(I re-installed Win7 2 days ago) and the following problems keep arising

-Randomly, COMPLETELY randomly my PC will restart because of Plug and Play crashing

-This has happened 3 times - My PC will just close everything and restart. I opened Task Manager and got a dialog one time, but I couldn't read all of it. Something about Windows crashing and restarting my computer.

-When I try to install Windows Updates, I get 98 failed updates and 2 errors
Code 80070216

-I tried to run /sfc scannow, it gets stuck at 4% and stops.

-Background radio? or advertisement sounds

I have run TDSKiller, MalwareBytes, and Combofix, and while they have found stuff the problem has not been removed.

I am running 32-bit Windows XP Pro with SP2. To access the web I use Firefox. The antivirus program that is installed on my machine is TrendMicro Office Scan. At the same time that the symptoms started, Trend Micro reported a file called "POSSIBLE_HIFRM-5" located in "C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\" although it seems that it didn't do anything about it. Initial symptoms were:

-IEXPLORE.EXE process keeps coming back if I kill it. The process seems to be created by svchost.exe
-Every once in a while, there is a IE popup window with ads
-Also every once in a while you hear what might be an ad, like a conversation between two men, that lasts a few seconds
-There are clicking sounds, like when you use IE and you click on a link. After a while, the "wave" sound bar goes down to zero.

I ran SuperAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes, ComboFix, RootRepeal, and MGtools as per the directions on this forum. The logs are attached. Note, when I ran RootRepeal and scanned files, I got an error message that said "Unrecognized partition type 6 (0x6)!".

After running all of those programs, the popups, sounds ,and wave going to zero seem to have stopped, but the IEXPLORE.EXE process is still there and keeps coming back if I kill it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Answer:IEXPLORE keeps coming back, popups, sounds...

I have a fairly new ASUS M2N-SLI Mobo with built in HD audio. When I had Vista installed, the audio worked great, then I downgraded to XP, installing the drivers for that particular device from the disk that came with the mobo from ASUS. The program installed is PowerMax. When I restarted the computer, i kept hearing random popping noises coming from the speakers. I adjusted the levels thinking maybe for some reason the sound was too loud, but to no avail. I changed from the analog output to the digital optical output on the mobo and still have the same problem. The popping sound comes in random times, but still has a pattern of "popping" every second. When there is no audio playing, there is absolutly no interfence or popping sound. Any ideas?

Answer:Popping sounds coming from onboard ASUS Mobo

I had this same problem but cant remember the exact fix. I know you need the full Audio player program installed and after you get all the options showing there are two tabs on the left side I believe the mic and something else you need to mute these two and the popping will stop. Wish I could be more specific but cant. Go To the ASUS Forum board and you ll find the fix there.

At 10:30 pm for the past 2 nights my computer starts to play this creepy Halloween music, so the obvious first thing I did was open the task manager, and of course nothing was there was nothing running. I ran a couple of scans but you guessed it nothing, so I shut the cpu down and it stopped. Then again tonight it happened again same time, like it is on a timer or something. So I searched "mysterious sounds coming from my comp. and it took me here to a person who had a similar problem, your people made some really good suggestions, so I thought maybe you could help me out? From what was mentioned in the forum this is some kind of hidden backdoor problem and all of my attempts to handle this alone would be futile. Thanks for your help, Scottpark.

Hi, Today I've noticed some crackling/popping sounds coming out of the left speaker of my HP Envy notebook. I figured out that they're coming from the left speaker. There's always a crackling sound lasting for roughly 3 seconds, then there's about 5 seconds break before the sound is there again. It goes on like that all the time now. I can listen to music etc without any issues but the problem is there even when I'm not using the speakers to play any sounds which is even more annoying as I can easily hear it when it's quiet. I've tried first 5 steps from this list, including reinstalling the Realtek driver and using Windows troubleshooting and none of them helped. I will really appreciate getting some solution as I had this laptop since September and never had any issues but this crackling thing is quite irritating. Thank you,Jacek

OKay well I bought a usb card a week ago which I assume was defective or incompatible with my system. Point blank it just did'nt work when I installed it to my pci slot. When I first installed the usb 2.0 pci card my pc would hang and I'd start to hear clicking sounds coming from inside my pc case. It actually sounded like making a clicking sound with your tongue. I kept having problems for about 20 mins after installing the card and heard the clicks once more. So all in all I only heard the inside of my case click about 4-6 times. I took the card out immediately after only being in my pc for 20 mins. I took the card back to the store yesterday and got it exchanged for the same one since they said the one I bought first could have been defective.

Anyways they also told me at the store that the clicking sounds could have beeen my hard drive(s). I have two hard drives in my system which are partitioned into a total of 4 parts. One thing I have to mention before I go on is that the hard drives I bought are western digital and I just bought them about 8 months ago. On top of that after I took out that badly working usb 2.0 pci card, I never heard the clicks again! & it's been a week!!! No clicks!!! I never even heard those clicks before in my life... Only when that usb card was in my system for 20 mins.

Okay well some people here on the site and some people at the store said to just be sure and check my hard drives for failure/errors even though I do not ... Read more

Maybe try last known configuration.

Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.

Click the Start button , click the arrow next to the Lock button , and then click Restart.

Do one of the following:

If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.

If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start, and then press F8.

On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER.

I recently had to do a full re-install of windows xp. I've installed all the relevant drivers including my sound card driver. I can hear system sounds out of the speakers as in the windows startup sound, asterix, etc but can't listen to any music or get any other sound out of the speakers.
I've checked all the settings in the sound and it all looks fine and I can't for the life of me figure it out. I've also tried installing a different sound card and I get the exact same issue.

Any ideas how to get my sound back? I think it is weird that I can hear system sounds but nothing else.

Answer:system sounds are OK, but no music??

If your test sounds are ok and if you correctly installed audio drivers then i am damn sure the problem is with the audio file which you are playing and doesn't get audio. Try another audio file from external source and also try windows sample music.

It's part of your Aero theme, most likely. Right click on the desktop and go to personalize. From there, click on the sounds option and select "no sounds" in the drop down menu.

So, I've got a strange problem that I've tolerated for a few months now.... I was hoping some of you guys might be familiar with it.

This will sound odd, but on occasion, my Vista desktop will make noises... as if it is tuning into an internet radio station for 3 to 6 seconds or so, and then cuts off. It's not so often that it's a huge problem... but it does get annoying or startling at times.

Sometimes the sounds are the same, but usually different... like commercials or something.

I'm sure it's a virus/trojan/malware or something... but I haven't been able to figure out what it is. I'd hate to do a full rebuild of my machine as I have done a lot of work getting it setup the way I like it (except for this of course!).
Has anyone experienced or know anything about this issue?

I'll start by saying that I'm not sure if this is in the right forum. Forgive me if it isn't.

What I would like to know is how to not have system sounds played while I'm listening to music. On my old (and I do mean old: win98, 64mb ram, etc) computer when I listened to music my system sounds were muted, which was really nice. My old computer had an older soundblaster sounds card. My new computer (xp home) has onboard sound and when I listen to music I still get to hear all the system sounds, etc (ie, cards being dealt in solitaire.) Did it have something to do with my sound card on my old system? How can I make the new system do what I want?

About 3 wks ago a game I had been playing Bejeweled2 just froze every time I launched it. I removed it - it won't re-install. Now when I go into My Music, double click a track it opens in iTunes, or Windows Media PLayer - looks like it is playing or freezes, go on the internet which is working fine go onto YouTube, or Live Radio etc - shows as though it is playing sound - but its not. Or it freezes! I have run all the suggestions through help and support centre, dxdiag etc - all works properly it says! When I switch on my computer it plays the normal jingle though and the intermittent bongs etc like when a new email comes still play too. What else can I try?Any help will be very gratefully received! Thanks in anticipation!

The sound on my Medion computer has gone very 'tinny' with an echo...It was ok before I connected my old computer to it with a crossover cable. With the same piece of music playing on both computers if I switch from the Medion to the old comp there is a big difference.. The jack on the speakers cable will only go into 3 connections on the back of the Medion but it makes no difference which one I use..Much obliged for any advice you can give me.. Thank you..

I get 'popping' sounds when i play music. Anyone know how to fix this?I thought it was my speakers at first but i used my headset too and its the same- there are still those popping sounds! This has made me think perhaps it isnt a hardware fault.I dont think i get popping sounds when i play movies; dvds. I play my music in winamp but have also tried it in windows media player and its exactly the same. This is getting really annoying now cos i've got loads of albums i wanna listen to!!Anyone experienced this before or know how to solve it?

Answer:Popping Sounds from music!!!!

Have you ripped the music from your own CDs or have you got them from the internet or other people? If the former then your sound-card driver is probably at fault (even though it plays your DVDs fine it can still be a problem with that as music tracks are in a different format to DVD sound). If the latter, then the popping sound is probably the copyright protection that stops the misc from being played. Usually it will play the first twenty seconds and then the popping noise will start.

Hello, hope someone can help me!

I've recently started using Windows 7, and am having an annoying sound issue.

If I'm playing music or listening to an internet radio station either through Windows Media Player or through my internet browser, if I then get another sound come through in anything else eg. a sound effect from a game, email notification, Windows Messenger alert etc. it knocks the sound of the music down to about a quarter of what it originally was. The music volume then gradually recovers once it realises no other sounds are going to be made. It's as if it's giving priority to the other programs.

I don't want this to happen at all! I'd rather choose a low background volume for the music, which stays rock solid and doesn't get altered by anything else.

I've tried adjusting various settings both within the audio control panel in Windows (Realtek HD Audio Manager) and Windows Media Player, but without any luck. I've noticed the setting about Windows automatically adjusting volume if it detects communications activity, and tried changing it to "do nothing" but this has absolutely no effect. Game sound effects aren't communication activity anyway! I've also tried ticking and unticking the "Normalise Volume" check-boxes in my Realtek HD Audio Manager control panel, but this doesn't appear to do anything either.

Please can anyone help me with a way to stop the sound keep getting knocking out. It's so irritating I've stopped playi... Read more

Answer:Music playback knocked out by other sounds

If you don't want the System Sounds you can completely disable them in the Sound Panel. Change the Sound Scheme to "No Sounds". That is the way I have my PC setup as I also use my PC for my recording studio and I don't want anything interferring with recording.

Here's what I'm trying to do on a Windows XP computer.

I want to assign a hotkey that is global (ie: can be played from in a game) that will play a song of my choice.
Example: CTRL+SHIFT+L > causes the song "Live to Win" to start playing

Anyone know of a way to do this? I think there is a way to do it using Foobar which would be nice if anyone could tell me how to set that up. If you know how to do it with another program lemme know.

Thanks a lot!

Answer:Hotkey Sounds/Music files

create a batch file to play the song. Then create a shortcut pointing to the bat file, and set a shortcut key in the shortcut properties.

Not sure if this'll work, but it might do.

That is normal because you are using a wrong method to recording. You can try to get a Playstation emulator for PC, put that disk and record the music directly. Regards.

Any sound or music that plays on any application has messed up pitch. The problem just started out of the blue one day. I reinstalled my sound "card" (it's onboard) drivers but that didn't work, so I don't know what the problem is.

Hi, so I have an HP Pavillion Elite HPE that I bought about two years ago new. For the past few months, what I assume is the hard drive has been making a strange, loud whirring noise at odd intervals (not necessarily when I'm opening programs or doing something I assume is processer intensive). I've attached a recording of it so you can get an idea, it sounds like different cycles are phasing and the tone oscillates up and down until it peters out. i've noticed my computer seems noticeably slower these days, with explorer often crashing. the most disconcerting part is that whenever i restart it actually takes about 8-10 minutes to boot back up. It gets past the Windows splash screen and just goes blank there for a long time, then shows the desktop wallpaper and hangs there for forever too. Any ideas?

does anyone know of away that I can play my music files (via WMP/Real/whatever) while I'm gaming *and* while hearing the in-game sounds (but not the in-game music)?
Would it just be a matter of turning off music in my games options and then running my music player in the background? -if so: would that have any adverse affects on my gaming?
Thanks for any suggestions,

Answer:playing*my*music and hearing game sounds

It sounds like you've got it figured out. Just play your music, then open up the game and turn the game music off.

The only really tricky thing is that for some reason some games will change the sound level. Meaning that your music will be quiet, and the game sounds will be really loud. You may need to compensate in a few games by turning down the sound effects volume.

Of course, playing music in the background will use up system resources. So if your computer isn't far from the graveyard, I wouldn't suggest playing many games like that. However, if you've got a decent system, you shouldn't notice much of a slowdown.

I have seen this problem on past post (now closed) but there never seem to be a real answer to the issue (many solutions offered).
I do seem to have a trojan or warm that is causing this security issue. I have used all the top popular removal and scan tools but nothing finds this security threat. Most deep (full) scans take about 4-6 hours on my system. The problem is using large sections of memory and I believe the security threat may have limited access to my system (unconfirmed)

Please if someone has direct and specific information on this I would greatly appreciate it.

My laptop started playing random sounds like commercials and music at weird times just two days ago. It also makes the sound of a mouse clicking in the background and will sometimes have the small window with the two option, "Restore last session" and "Go to homepage". This is quicky gone in less than a second. Finally, I noticed that if I'm browsing the web, even though the page is up it'll go into the background as though there is another window in front (but there isn't).

I use AVG free and a scan found nothing. I downloaded Malwarbytes and it found some things AVG missed but it didn't solve the problem. After some more searching I did a scan with ESETscan and this is what it came up with: Operating memory a variant of Win32/Miep.A trojan.

Hello all,

I have been looking for an answer to this for a few months. My issue seems to differ from the threads I pull up from a simple search.

I am having the random music (sounds like WOW music sometimes, and advertisements occasionally) that are playing at random times from my netbook.

Norton found nothing. I found nothing. No screens are open, no suspicious processes in the task manager. I felt frustrated and decided I would just reformat my netbook, and re-install XP. Which is what I did today.

However, after downloading MSN and Firefox... it started again. The songs that are playing actually sound a little different, but I'm sure it has something to do now with Windows Live Messenger or Firefox.

I have set the sound devices to no sound as well.. that has not solved the issue.

If anyone has an idea, or solution, please inform me. I am feeling at the end of my rope. Not even losing all my data to reformat my hardrive and re load windows has removed this... "curse". I've only had the new xp running two hours, and it has happened approx 6 times already (more than before)

Thanks for reading,

I'm new to this site. I have been surfing so long to see for something helpful. I was recommended by a friend that this site would work wonders and do their best to help. I appreciate your efforts. Let me get straight to the point. It started about a week ago. I was listening to music when suddenly out of nowhere my volume muted, i checked my volume and it was on to the highest that it can be. I thought it was some problem with the song itself, so i tried another and it was playing by no sounds. finally i opened up my volume meter control and saw that my wave was turned off. It was weird cause i never turned it off. I turned it back on and just some time after it shuts off again and this kept on repeating. I didn't really think anything was wrong at that point, so i ignored it. But then one day i was just browsing checking my emails and everything when suddenly i hear something like " Congratulations You Won" I checked everywhere and i only had one web page opened at that time; i use firefox. I only had my email open and i didn't see such an ad. It started to annoy me and i started to get scared like what if it is a virus or something. I personally use Avast anti virus so i did a full scan but nothing came up. I tried searching everything on what i can do, but i'm no computer tech nor am i good with computers at all. Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:

MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )
