[SOLVED] COM port and bluetooth COM port connection issues

Question: [SOLVED] COM port and bluetooth COM port connection issues

Hello, I am an IT Technician for an electric cooperative. I am having a very odd issue that I can not seem to resolve and I am in need of assistance.

We have 4 Dell Latitude notebooks all running XP and we also have some very high end GPS units made by Trimble that we are going to be using to stake out points on a map. Whenever I connection through bluetooth with the GPS I am able to pair but the GPS control software never recognizes it when I chose the COM port assigned to it. Whenever I connect it directly through a cable(serial to usb) it never detects it either.

However this is the odd part, when I test this on my desktop I am able to connect just fine with the exact same method.

Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: [SOLVED] COM port and bluetooth COM port connection issues

Are you aware of any differences in your Desktop and the laptops? Like Service Pack is different, or maybe a BIOS setting?

Well, this has me baffled. My Bell Internet Security Services Activation (I just installed it on a computer not used for some 4 or 5 months) popped up a window saying "Waiting for Internet connection"...and waiting and waiting. But my Netgear wireless connection to the router in the house indicates "very good" signal strength, which I thought meant I was connected. Obviously not!

I tried opening IE. "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page" (much as I expected)

Clicked the button which was showing on the IE cannot connect page "Diagnose connection problems" and followed the instructions. The final diagnostic is "Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer. Check the firewall settings for the ports HTTP...etc." Where on this earth are they?!

I checked the Windows Firewall settings and found it "off (not recommended)" so I switched it on.

I re-ran the diagnostic on the IE page and nothing has changed.

My question is:

How do I check the settings for HTTP port (80) and HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)? Also what do I set them to?

Many thanks, in advance, for a solution to my problem!

Answer:Solved: Help! Settings for HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443), FTP port (21)

So you just installed an Internet Security Suite which has a Firewall built-in and then you enabled XP' built-in firewall? I am baffled as to why you would do that. The new software you installed has to be blocking it somehow. I would search their website for known issues.

Or just uninstall it and use something different.

About 2 weeks ago my USB 3.0 port stopped working, after reading the comments on the interenet i presume this is from the Windows 8.1 update. I tried at first to sort it out myself by trying to uninstall and reinstall the port, I updated by BIOS, went through all the Device Manager and BIOS setup options to make sure it was working, and double checked windows updates. I am not particulary tech savvy but I thought this could not be too hard, as I it still lights up my external hardrive, it just does not detect it. So I know it is not physical damage.I then contacted Lenovo support who told me quite a few people were having this issue and that all I needed to do was download the updated Chipset and Intel Management Driver software. Clearly this guy had not heard of automatic updates and low and behold it did not work. I then rang back and the next guy was so inaudible due to his accent that I literally could not be bothered to ask him to repeat evey sentence, which was the first 5 minutes of our conversation. In my device manager I have an unknown device called USB Root Hub (xHCI), when I try to update the driver it says it cannot find any suitable match. I know this hub is the one to detect USB drives, so I don't understand why it will not find a driver.Around the same time I also noticed that my Bluetooth does not work properly! So I have attempted to sort this out as well. I  installed the latest Bluetooth driver from the Lenovo website and then "wallah" my Bluetoo... Read more

Reset BIOS Settings to default to remedy a display issue and when I booted back into windows, Wifi and USB were disabled completely along with many other services.  Lenovo chat support suggested they send me the original Windows 8 Pro disc and re-image, or I send it in for repair under the warranty.  Fiddled around some more and fixed the issue. On this model you have to Spam the "Enter" key at bootup to access the Startup Pause Menu and then Press F1 to enter BIOS.   Upon resetting the BIOS to it's defaults the I/O Ports were set to "Disabled".  To remedy this do the following:  BIOS >  Security Tab > I/O Port Access >  "Enable" all fields. This was the quick fix I was looking for and I ended up finding it out myself.  Hopefully, this can help someone else in the future.  I didn't think to look under the "Security" tab in BIOS for port, wifi, bluetooth issues... but now I know.  #KnowingIsHalfTheBattle.  Cheers. -Rahb

Open Internet Explorer. Click Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan settings > Proxy server > Advanced. Delete the proxy server settings under HTTP, HTTPS (secure) and FTP (and Socks, if any). Then, under Proxy server, uncheck all boxed.

If running Firefox too, disable proxy server.

Hello all. I was talking on skype and lost internet connectivity while talking. I received the error above (Firewall Settings HTTP (port 80) HTTPS port 443 FTP port 21 error message). I am running a laptop with windows XP and IE 7 and my antivirus is AVG and I also have Ad-Aware.

I'm not much of a computer person but I did some research online and tried a few things: I turned off the option on skype's advanced settings for it to listen on Port 80 and then rebooted. I also ran a command, 'netstat -aon' and did not find a listing of 1270.0.1:80/443 or which seems to imply that nothing should be affecting port 80 or 443.

I also downloaded firefox and it cannot access the internet either. The only way I'm able to access the internet at the hotel I'm located at was to call the hotel's tech support and they had me go into the LAN settings of internet options and manually select port 8080.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have suddenly gotten this on my main computer. (Windows XP)
A previous techguy thread (expired) said to check my dns numbers with "jpconfig /all"
However, my computer will not allow me to run that program in safe mode.
Is it a bug issue... or will that program only run in full mode?

Answer:Firewall Settings HTTP (port 80) HTTPS port 443 FTP port 21 error message

Dear mulebit,
It actually is " ipconfig /all " i.e replace" j"with "i".Please go to command prompt under Start--> Programs-->accessories. No need for "safe mode" to carry out this task. Can you kindly provide details of your computer specifications? Are you using a third party firewall and if so which brand? What security software are you running?

Some info on common ports used, don't know much about connectivity problems...but it seems to me that...if you never had this problem before and your system connects properly outside of this hotel...the hotel/location may be the problem.Worth a read, IMO:

I saw this problem listed, but My issue is a bit different and the previous solution didn't work for me.

Please forgive me if any of my posts offend, as I am new to this site. I don't intend to be rude, but my ignorace may anger some. Also forgive the length of the post, I wish to be thorough as to avoid getting possible solutions that I have already tried or are not relavent.

I recently had some repairs done on my computer which involved reformatting my hard drive and when I got it back started having trouble accessing some internet sites. Unlike the previous person's post with this issue i can still access the internet and 95% of sites, but a select (and seemingly random) few give the IE cannot access website error. When I run the networking Diagnostics for Windows XP get the following error:

Check the Firewall settings for the HTTP Port (80), HTTPS port (443), and FTP port (21)

The only firewalls I know of on my computer are Windows and my router (both of which I have disabled) i have also tried Firefox and it craps out at the same exact sites.

In addition to selected sites, some third party programs are having trouble accessing the internet. This includes Nortons Installer (I haven't been able to install my antivirus yet because of this error) and I haven't been abble to register Microsoft office after I installed because it cannot access the internet for ID Key Verification.

I have tried turning off all LAN proxy settings, and power ... Read more

I run the IT for a medium sized Mechanical and Controls Contractor. Recently several computers from our Service Department seem to be having communication issues, I will try to explain them as best I can.

Our Service Department works on all kinds of HVAC systems from all kinds of companies, some which have their own proprietary diagnostic software (specifically Trane and McQuay). They also diagnose problems on all kinds of control systems (Siemens, Honeywell, Johnson, ect) but mostly Automated Logic. That being said, they have a lot of different programs on their laptops. All of the Laptops are using Windows XP and, if not fully updated at the time they have me look at it, I make sure they get all the critical updates (except IE8), yet they seem to continue to have problems.

The Problem:
Recently I have had 4 of the Service Department laptops that have stopped communicating over the COM ports (they use a special USB cable to connect from the laptop to the system control modules). All other USB devices (thumb drives, Mobile Broadband Cards, ect) seem to work fine. the COM ports show up, and can even be reassigned, but no communication happens. I have spoken to Dell, as they are all Dell Laptops, and they are at a loss.

My Thoughts:
I had originally thought that it was a conflict between all of the different programs that they had on the computer as they all used COM ports and different cables to connect to different devices, and at one time I had an error that t... Read more

I have a http server running on one of my computers
I used the 'port forwarding' option on my tp-link wireless router tl-wr541g to forward any connection on port 80 to computer and it all works great.
The problem is, I now only want computers with IP address 192.168.1.x to be able to connect to the server and block all others. Can this be done using the wireless router setting? if not can it be done with McAfee virusscan + anti-spyware module 8.0.0 ? (this has some firewall options)

Hi there,

I was going thro' some of the postings on this forum as I'm currently faced with issues around port forwarding.

My intent is to have the ability of viewing my Axis207W over the internet.

Here's my setup -

1. WRT54GL running DD-WRT v24-sp2 connected to a Scientific-Atlanta modem.

2. Axis207W camera configured as follows for both ethernet and wireless connections to the camera -
Static IP -
Subnet Mask -
Default router (gateway) -
http port: 80
https port: 443
rtsp port: 554

3. Both the camera and the router are accessible wirelessly over the LAN

4. On the port forwarding tab of the router interface, I mapped port 80 of (camera) to port 90 (I've tried 9000 as well)

5. I pulled up the WAN IP (external IP) and entered http://xx.xx.xx.xx:90 on the address bar. Ended up getting 'IE cannot display the webpage'

6. Just to make sure that the issue had nothing to do with the camera, I forwarded port 80 of the Linksys router itself and mapped it to port 80 ( and entered

http://xx.xx.xx.xx:80 (external IP) to no avail (tried 8080 as well)

7. Went to and it says that xx.xx.xx.xx isn't responding on port 80 (or 90)

8. I tried accessing the modem directly at (IE8) only to get the foll -

1. I've been having problems with Windows Update for a while. I've spent hours going through forums attempting to solve my problem, but no luck. Last night I noticed that my Palm device would not sync - could not make the connection. I tried to make the connection from my Palm device and from the software on my PC. It is a Tungsten E that I bought about 2 months ago and it has been working well until now. Tonight my Palm device will not sync again, and I tried to use my scanner and it will not work either - cannot make a connection. USB 2 ports with XP SP2. I tried physically moving the cords to another port - same problem. Device Manager can see my scanner and says it is working properly. I have the latest software update for both my scanner and the Tungston E. The only other USB device hooked up is my printer, and it seems to be working fine.

I have an ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX motherboard which has SATA 2 and SATA 3 ports. I've tried fiddling around with BIOS options and my hard drive is recognized by the motherboard as seen in this picture:
The computer will boot to the screen where I can select to boot into safe mode or normal boot. Regardless of which option I select, the computer will restart right after, as seen in this video:

I've tried booting the hard drive with another board and everything works fine (hard drive isn't the problem). I've also tried booting the entire system using another PSU and I get the same result as in the video linked above. I've come to the conclusion that it's the motherboard that's causing the problem and that I should RMA it. What is the community's opinion?

I have a Nokia E65 which used to connect fine to the internet via bluetooth but now using the Nokia PC Suite software i get a port busy or misconfigured message.

I can still transfer files from my phone to the laptop via bluetooth.

I deleted the bluetooth driver and reinstalled it as my bluetooth icon was missing, but had an error message that all hardware was not installed correctly.

I rebooted and ran the bluetooth wizard again and all seemed fine, but the port is still busy.

I can connect via cable fine.

I am running Windows 10 Pro x64 on an HP laptop. I recently had to re-install windows.

I've re-installed my HP printer via USB cable and this is working. However I normally use a bluetooth connection and at present I can't get that to work.

I added bluetooth for the printer (it worked perfectly well before re-installing Windows) but its set up keeps going wrong in various ways depending on which "add printer" route I use.

At present I have two duplicate entries, but different types, in the printer property's list of ports;

BTH001 virtual........ Printer X

BTH001 local Printer X

As I remember the virtual one is correct, but I can't delete the local port - even having stopped printer spooling, it just keeps saying it's in use (no idea for what, I'm not using it).

How can I get rid of this BTH001 type=local port because I think it is causing problems resulting in installation of the bluetooth printer function not working properly?

I have several questions regarding bluetooth port assignments and winXP. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to higher port numbers (10-15)? Is there any way to force specific bluetooth port assignments? I am uploading GPS information to a tablet computer running XP Tablet for a navigation program. When I add a bluetooth device (the GPS receiver), it always seems to push the port assignment up above 6. It would be very helpful for me to force a port assignment of 6 or less because I am using Franson GPS Gate as an interface to the nav program. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am new to this forum and I have a question when using bluetooth to connect an external device (Blueport XP). This external device requires a serial port for communication, but I don't see the bluetooth on my laptop had assigned a port.

I would like my bluetooth to work as the following mode:
When I search online, I find other people who faced my case have difference hardware (Left is others, right is mine):

They have the "Standard Serial over Bluetooth Link (COMXX)" under the Port catergory, while my "Device manager" don't have a such a Port category.

I think that is the reason when my external device can be successfully connected (using passcode), but still not assigned the com port and thus no later communication. (Left is others, right is mine):

I have checked my laptop configuration, my bluetooth is : Intel 7265 AC/B/G/N Dual Band Wireless + Bluetooth Version 4.0

So my question is: Does my bluetooth not support serial port profile (SPP)?
If it does support SPP, how can I make it work?

Thank you,

Answer:no serial port over bluetooth

Hmm, I don't have much information about this subject but perhaps your laptop needs to support the serial port and not the Bluetooth in particular. Not all laptops have a serial port. Sorry, can't provide anything more in this regard.

However, check How to Create a Bluetooth Virtual Serial Port | eHow. Maybe it will help.

Ok so I have a wireless Bluetooth device. It has worked fine connected to a windows 7 and 8 computer. Now I am trying it on 10. For the software I wrote for it to work properly I need to be able to specify which COM port it uses when connecting.
In windows 7 and 8 I would then go to "Bluetooth settings", click "New Connection", and then follow the setup wizard. Here I would be able to set the device to be in Dev mode and specify the COM port to always use. In the new windows 10 "Bluetooth settings" program I can not find a way to do this.
Also I have two different "Bluetooth settings" programs show up in the start menu. One I can open up and it will show my device, but I am unable to do what I mentioned above. The other program with this name has the same icon as what is on my Windows 7 and 8 machines, but gives me the error "unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)"
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Unable to specify COM port in Bluetooth Settings

Ok so I reinstalled the drivers for my device and that seems to have fixed the issue.

Okay so I normally use my cellphone as a modem when I'm out.
I dial in through AT&T's connection... but that's not really relevant.

I was messing with another dial-up modem, and in the process, lost the connection data, and now the whole thing's gone south. I deleted the connection (from network connections in windows) and have since been unable to re-create it.
The thing just won't contact the bluetooth modem at all. Doesn't even make an effort to.

NO matter what dialing information I put in for the dial-up connection, it doesn't even contact the bluetooth modem (the phone) at all. It just immediately fails.

Someone said to try querying the modem. That fails, and gives me an error that "The port that the modem is using is currently open by another application."

What could cause this? What am I doing wrong?

Using Windows Vista, standard bluetooth manager in windows, no special applications.

By the way, it works fine with my other computers, just not with this Lenovo T60p... Cheers,ejay

Here is my situation,
I own a Lattitude E7450, and needed to connected two displays to it. I went ahead and bought the Dell E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator with USB 3.0, since it has 2 DVI ports on the back. It shows it is compatible with my laptop.
I set up my dock, connected my laptop, as well as both external monitors. Only one monitor shows a duplicated desktop. When I go into the display settings, I cannot see any existence of another external display being connected.
All of my drivers are up to date, restarted laptop many times. Pretty bummed out.
Anyone have any solution/knowledge to this?

If you know of a better place to post this problem, please let me know. My Z60m works fine, but my Type 2054 Port Replicator USB ports do not. Sound is also not working. Can this be done in the CMOS? or is there a simplier yet effective way that it can be done?

Answer:How Do I change Com.port 1 to Com.port 3? My modem is silent. Dual booting problem

What do you mean by changing COM1 to COM3? Do you want to move a device? Reassign IRQs? Physically pick one up off the motherboard and move it?

Your modem sound is usually configured in two places. One is in the Control Panel, and the other is in the Dial-up Networking settings. Adjust the volume there.

Are you running Windows 2000 and Windows 98 on separate paritions (drive letters)? If so, you'll need to use special software to convert the FAT32 file system to NTFS. I believe Parition Magic will allow this without data loss. However, I would never make such a large system change without first backing up data. There is always the chance that everything could get wiped out.

Has anyone had any issues with the Precision 7510 only outputting through one DisplayPort output on the E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator? Our organization recently started to introduce Precision 7510 units to our employees, and we're finding that they will only output to one single monitor connected via DisplayPort through the E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicators - even though there are two monitors connected into the two DisplayPort outputs on the E-Port Plus APR. If the monitors are connected via DVI, the Precision 7510 is able to output to both of them through the E-Port Plus APR. We have tried Precision M4800, Latitude E7450, and Latitude E7470 units in these E-Port Plus APR's with two monitors connected into the two DisplayPort outputs - and they all work correctly. The Precision 7510 units have the NVIDIA Quadro M1000M video cards, and the E-Port Plus APR's are connected to either a pair of P2417 monitors or a pair of U2414 monitors.

Internet Service Personal Router Static IP MAC address of LAN Port or WAN Port

Hello friends,

I have purchased static IP from Local ISP Provider . Problem is that the tech support of local ISP provider is asking em

Which Port would you like to bind your Static IP

Also they ask me whats the MAC Address of Router
Pls see attached screenshot
As you can see Internet port - 74:44:01:94:E0:79
Whereas LAN Port has mac address - 74:44:01:94:E0:78

Which is routers mac address?

I have no idea.

I know we have two ports in router (mine is Netgear 300N Model)
1. WAN (Internet) Port
2. LAN Port
Could anyone really help in explaining me
1. Which one is routers mac address
2. Static ip should be binded to LAN or WAN Port

Pls guide Thank You

P.S. I intend to use DVR for CCTV for remote viewing later

Answer:Internet Service – Personal Router – Static IP – MAC address of LAN Port or WAN Port

I Don't know what your talking about directly but I'm willing to try. Can you explain a little better what the isp person is asking you? From the screenshot I know the bottom section is your local connection and the top part is your WAN connection. If that helps any.

Need some advice a quick as possible.

Windows XP Pro
ofc had a built in serial port go bad, it was hooked to a charicter generator (don't no how to spell charicter) for a tv channel.
Installed a Controller Card with two serail ports PCI Multi I/O Controller Card, it didn't show up in the device manager was having problems getting the driver to work. says to load driver first then put in the pci card. Anyway it wouldn't work. The port that was built in (that went bad was on com 1) When the new card didn't work I used a usb with a serial adaptor and it went in fine and showed up in the divice manager and it said it was working and it started out on com 3, I no each time you plug the adaptor into a different usb port it goes to a different com port. That isn't a problem cause it would stay in the same port. Anyway device manager said it was working we changed the charicter generator to com 3 but it wouldn't work. We no the cables are good. I then got a PCI Card with one serial port instead of two and installed it and it show right up in the device manager and said it was working and I for get what comport it was on but changed it to com 1. that port didn't work either. Finally brought in another windows xp computer and hooked everhthing to it and it works. The xp computer I brought in had no serial port so used the same usb to serial adaptor that we had used and it work the first time. Show up in the device manager just like on the first comp... I am using a class 1 bluetooth dongle (unkown manufacturer) with the toshiba bluetooth stack V 8.00.03 Premium, and a bluetooth headset. The specs for the dongle are : Bluetooth V1.2, USB compatible with V1.2/2.0

I have a strange problem when changing the USB the dongle is plugged into. If I change the dongle to another USB port, searching for devices fails. I have tried uninstalling the stack, and of course deleting the device from the bluetooth manager window.

Also, strangely , when I plug the dongle into a USB extension on the same port, it doesnt work either. When I put the dongle back into the same USB port it works fine as usual.

I want to change the USB port so that I can get better reception , as its plugged in at the back at the moment. Also, I want to use the usb extension for the same reason, to bring it out above the desk. Weirdly though,as I say, it doesnt work with the extension (just a regular cable with USB male on one end and female on the other to plug the dongle into.

Is this something to do with voltage drop down a cable? And regarding the changing of the usb ports is this something to do with the bluetooth ports being installed on that USB port only? I dont know exactly how bluetooth ports work so, how they get installed etc.

Thanks very much for any help.

Answer:Bluetooth dongle Windows 7 USB port problem

I have an Iogear Bluetooth dongle (
that I use to make a virtual serial port connection to my LG VX8700 Phone. I have the latest available Iogear software/driver installed, however my virtual serial port connection keeps disconnecting about 1 minute after connecting, if that long. It's connecting and disconnecting is like clock's not intermittent. The blutooth doesn't disconnect cause I can just double click on the serial connection and it immediately reconnects, but not for long. I have googled somewhat but everything I've found is others with the same issues, but apparently no fixes so I haven't found any solutions, so I was just wondering if anyone is aware of this issue, or something I am not doing correctly, and if so...can you point me in the right direction. I have an old desktop tower that I've system restored and I'd like to use the hard drive to store my photographs and videos and such. I found it has a FireWire port on the back. My current laptop has and eSATA/USB combo port on it.
My question. Can I link the two so the old tower will appear on my laptop as an external hard drive? Are those two ports even compatiible?

Answer:Can I connect an old hard drive tower's Fire Wire port to the eSATA port on my current laptop?

I believe that Firewire port is not meant to connect PC to PC like the Ethernet port, it works more like a USB port to connect compatible devices like digital cameras... but that port is old and most modern consumer devices are not compatible with Firewire.
You can use that HDD by taking it out of the PC case and use a HDD enclosure like this one, if you want a HDD enclosure you must check if your HDD is SATA or IDE.

As mentioned in the title I have both pieces of hardware.  I also just purchased a third Dell U2414H LCD monitor.  I am trying to connect all 3 via display port.  However it seems that all I can do is 2 monitors?  When I try to daisychain them I got 2 monitors mirroring each other and one through HDMI off the laptop.

Is this a physical limitation of the replicator?  Is there a firmware update somewhere?

Answer:Dell Latitude E6520 & E-Port Plus 2 - Display port issue

The E6520 comes with Intel HD Graphics 3000.  The specs for that GPU are buried in the specs for the CPU itself, but if you go to and look up your CPU, then scroll down to the graphics section and verify that it shows Intel HD Graphics 3000, you'll find that that GPU only supports 2 independent displays, which is why you see mirroring.  More recent Intel GPUs do indeed support 3 displays, but no Intel GPUs to my knowledge yet support 4.
If your E6520 has the NVIDIA discrete GPU, I can't find any information on NVIDIA's site about maximum number of supported displays, but based on your experience I would assume it's 2 unless indicated otherwise.

I?m not quite sure what you want to know but as far as I know the eSATA/USB combo port on the left notebook?s side supports the USB 2.0 and the eSATA function. It supports also a USB sleep & charge function and you can connect all devices which would support eSATA and would be eSATA compliant.

My laptop had headphones plugged in because I was watching a film, but while I was in another room, my laptop was knocked onto the floor (around 1.5-2 ft drop) landing on the headphones jack, the wire is fine, but the ports completely broken, I can see cracks and its loose and everything

The laptop has Realtek HD audio manager, and in my experience of this program on other desktops I've had, I was able to change what port does what.

My laptop only has a headphones port and a mic port, and I would like to see if I can switch the mic port to be the headphones port because I never use an external mic, however in Realteks audio manager I can't find out how to do this. In pictures I've seen on the internet there is a "Device Advanced Settings" button (as seen in this picture but my program doesn't have this.

Do I need to download a newer version of the software? or is it just not possible to change my mic port to be my headphone port? I dont mind if I have to use third party software, I just want it to tide me over till I can get it sent away.

Thanks for suggestions, greatly appretiated

Answer:Realtek HD audio manager, change a mic port to a headphones port?

I doubt very much if this will be possible. The mic and headphone ports are wired directly to the Audio section of the motherboard, there connections cannot be altered.

Your best bet is to get the damaged port repaired.

Hi guys, I bought a new (sealed) Lenovo IdeaPad Y430 on Everything was working properly, but, yesterday, I had this message from Windows when I plugged my Kingston USB Flash Drive (left side port). "Power surge on USB hub port" So I unplugged the USB key, rebooted the system. Plug my USB key again, no warning message, but no USB key detected... So, I reboot the computer, with the key plugged in, going in the BIOS and when I take a look in the boot device order, my Kingston flash drive is not detected. If I do the same thing with another USB port, it works. I tried to mount my USB key on Ubuntu too, nothing to do. So, is there something to do? Or my USB port is dead and I must ship my laptop to Lenovo? Thanks a lot, Jack

Answer:I had "Power Surge on USB hub port" on my Y430 and now the USB port doesn't work

You can look inside it - maybe just a shortage and crossings of contacts inside port.If so just fix it by a little pin.if not - send for repair.

I just can confirm that when you use Advanced port replicator III with Portege M200 several ports are not working. Problem is that Portege M200 does not support these interfaces.

This is a technical limitation and the PS/2 Mouse port, PS/2 Keyboard port, Serial port, i-Link port (Firewire), and DVI port will not be supported when Portege M200 is docked on the Advanced Port Replicator III. :(

I have dual primary display monitor is a Chimei CMV223D
My secondary display monitor is an Acer AL1916W.

My graphics card is an HD ATI Radeon 5800.

My primary display monitor which usually has a display resolution of 1680x1050 is currently stuck on 640x480 and in the property settings it won't let me change the resolution. The cable running from the Graphics card is an HDMI cable with a HDMI/DVI converter. I have also tried using the DVI port of the video card to the DVI port of the PC which comes up with same problem. Using a DVI/VGA converter and a VGA cable the VGA port on the monitor works fine!!! SOOOO long story short there is definitely something going on with the monitors DVI port.........

This randomly occurred overnight and is driving me insane to know what I need to fix. I have used different cables and to no such luck. My secondary monitor is just humming away just fine! But I really need my primary display.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled video drivers for the graphics card which is the Catalyst control centre suite and all monitor drivers appear to be up to date.

WHY oh why is my monitor locked at this resolution!!??? How to fix please help!!!

Hello guys,

I am being more concerned since few days about daily suspicious network traffic in my network about the below.

Looks like UDP port 137 from my private IP contacting destination port 137 to a public IPs (one source to many public destinations). I investigated these traffic by taking into consideration about 50 + offenses and 80% scan results on these PCs didn't find anything suspicious. Rest 30% detected some PUP programs from registry and some adwares, which I believe are not that much suspicious. (Scanned by Malwarebytes and Super anti spyware)

Below is a syslog log I am posting for your reference captured by my SIEM tool sent by Firewall.

<164>%ASA-4-106023: Deny udp src Internal: dst External: by access-group "My_CSM_FW_ACL" [0xb292c4f, 0x412e8e2f]

This traffic is happening on a daily basis, and to avoid security issues we have to unnecessarily scan those machines. But is this really a suspicious traffic ? Could someone please help me on this, please. After a brief investigation, if I find something good, I can save a lot of waste work by colleagues sitting abroad scanning the machines.

Hey Guys,

I have been messing around with Apache from (XAMPP) on my Windows computer. I know that it is not secure, but I am just testing it for right now (for fun).

I am behind a Linksys WRT54g router. I can easily access the apache server from internally (locally), and in order for me to be able to access it externally (external IP in address bar), I have to port forward in my router.

So, I port forwarded port 80 and everything worked fine. I just had a question about this.

Since most internet (HTTP) traffic is served through 80, and I just port forwarded 80 to one computer, how do the other computers on my network still have access to the net. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome that this works, but I would just like to know how. Theoretically, wouldn't all the traffic that is coming through 80 be routed to that one computer?

Can someone explain this to me?

Also, when people use Apache to host sites, do they usually keep the apache ServerName (in httpd.conf) at localhost, or do they change it to a different IP? I would imagine they would keep it at localhost, so what would be the reason for changing that to a different IP?

Answer:Question about port forwarding port 80 (for apache) and a couple other questions

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

CDMA software requires a COM port to communicate with a cell phone. I'm using HW Virtual Serial Port v3.1.2 (single port, standalone install).

I have a separate modem and router. My Win8.1 PC is hardwired to the modem. Windows firewall is off. Windows Defender is off. Motorola Mobile Drivers Installation 5.9.0 is installed (directly from Moto's website for my phone although Win8 is not listed just Win7. I did not install in Win7 compatibility mode.). My Motorola Droid Razr HD is running stock 4.1.1 ROM. It is booted into BP Tools. WiFi is off. USB Debugging is on. It's connected as MTP (media device). Stay awake is on. Modem, PC, & phone have been rebooted. There are no errors in Device Manager for the Motorola USB Networking Driver.

In IP config, the IPv4 address for the Motorola USB Networking Driver is In HW Virtual Serial Port under Settings tab, I unchecked NVT Enabled. On the Virtual Serial Port tab, I selected Port Name=COM10, IP Address=, and Port=11008. When I select Create COM, COM10 is created and I can see it in Device Manager but I get a LAN status error (in HW Virtual Serial Port app). So something is not right. In Network & Sharing Center, I see it's an unidentified public network with no internet access (IPv4).

I'm at a loss on how to fix this. Anyone know what I'm missing? Thank you in advance for the help.

Hello everyone!

I'd like to ask your experience about a tough dilemma!

Well, let's get to the point :)

I've recently downloaded a plugin for Amazing Slow Downer (music software) that allows to remotely control it.
The plugin requires an external hardware called Irman ($50 on eBay) and in its setup it asks to choose one
of 4 available com ports, to which one the ext. infrared receiver (Irman) is supposed to be assigned.

I wouldn't like to buy an additional hardware, considering the fact, that Qosmio X300 is already supplied
with its own build-in infrared and remote control ;) I want to use the original one

My question is: How can I assign a com port to a build-in infrared receiver in such a way that the
Amazing Slow Downer plugin will recognize it?

_*P.S*._ I'm running Windows 7 x64; Infrared drivers: ENE CIR Driver; also there is installed Toshiba TRCMan (I don't know what it is for)

Answer:Qosmio X300 - How to assign a com port to a build-in infrared port?

You must understand that Toshiba create hardware for own needs and if notebook is offered with remote controller it is probably not a kind of ?standard? infrared port for usage with every possible remote controller you can find on the market.

So I think such ?manipulation? is not possible. If Irman has own remote controller and receiver it is designed for this. I am 100% sure you cannot use remote controller from third part hardware with Toshiba infrared receiver.
You can also call Toshiba hotline or Toshiba service and ask there but I ?m pretty sure this will not work.

Anyway, if you want to use external monitor and switch successfully to it you need to install Toshiba tools and utilities. There are several of them and this will allow you to use FN+F5 key combination and switch your desktop from notebook LCD display to external monitor.

Can you please tell me one thing: have you installed all stuff from Toshiba download page following Installations Instructions document?
The notebook configuration is not known to me but try please to check Intel properties and let me know if the external monitor is recognized in properties. Usually you can there choose option to use external monitor.

You can also start Toshiba HWsetup utility. There must be tab called ?Display?. There you can also find one option to use LCD +monitor at start up.

Check it out please and post the results.

I have trouble as described in the topic,
I have two most old laptop models, Dell Precision M6300 & Dell Latitude D630.
When laptops is docked to replicator potr dock stations D/APR (PR01X) or D/DOCK (PD01X) - bigger one model with DVD port,

headphone jack port not working under Windows 10 Pro x64 installed on both laptops.

On M6300 previously was installed Windows 7 Ultimate and on D630 was Windows 8.1.
On Dell  M6300 on Win 7 Ult. headphone jack port worked properly.
On Dell D630 on Win 8.1 I'm not sure due I do not used this on it (more years ago when it was on Win XP headphone jack port worked properly)
So when Ms start delivering updates do Win 10, I did it on doth laptops, everything on both models working fine, but only this headphone jack port in D/APR (PR01X) or D/DOCK (PD01X) wouldn't like to work when I'm dockind Dell M6300 (D630 I docked only
for test if on this one jack port will work or not) but not working too like on M6300.
So loks like drivers whih was made oryginally for Win Vista x64 ale which was workable for Windows 7 64b wouldn't like to work on Windows 10.
Maybe You have some tips what to do with this to press them to work?

does the Tecra A9 (PTS52E-01T02NGR) support the DVI-port of the express port replicator?

The manual (for Tecra A9, Tecra S5, Satellite Pro S200) says it does, but the screen is black if I connect the monitor via the DVI port. It works using VGA, but with poor quality (interference).

My colleages all have the same problem. We are using different samsung TFT's; the OS is Win XP Pro.
The manual also says "...maybe some DVI-Monitors cannot be used..." but before testing other monitors it would be interesting if there is any DVI at all...

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Does Tecra A9 supports the DVI-port of the Express port replicator

It depends on the used Tecra A9, if you can get a picture on the DVI out port on the Express Port Replicator (PA3508E-1PRP) or not.
The DVI port on the Express Port Replicator is *only supported on machines with ATI or nVidia graphic card*.

If you have a INTEL graphic card the DVI port on the on the Express Port Replicator is *NOT supported*.

Best regards

1. Is this a wired or wireless connection issue?
2. Who is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

3. What type of Broadband connection are you using?

4. What is the exact Make and Model of your Modem, Router or Modem/Router Combo
Netgear WNDR3800, Cisco DPC3008

5. What is the Name of the Anti-Virus, Security or Firewall Software
comodo firewall

Answer:router not passing port scan after opening port

Have you tried a different port to see if that port is being blocked by your ISP?

I also see that your parsing TCP to UDP, probably doesn't make a difference to the port being open or closed but it might be better to set them both the same or set to Any.

Another problem you may encounter is your IP may change, most ISP's like to change your IP every so often so you may have to set up a DDNS with a hostname in order to access the services you want remotely.

I have been using an DSL Siemens speedstream 6520 router at home. I usually carry out some R&D by placing servers behind the router. I access the services on each of the servers from the ouside using port forwarding and it has been working fine for http, ftp, RDP, any user defined ports etc but in the case of port 25 SMTP its not working at all. I have checked the port on the local lan and I am able to telnet to that server but from the outside only on this port 25 I am not able to telnet. But If i were to change the SMTP port number from 25 to any other port like 24 or 26, I am able to telnet from the outide. Is there any way i can make SMTP port 25 to work and access the same from the outside.

Answer:SpeedStream 6520 DSL Router - Port forwarding for port 25

Is it possible that port 25 has been blocked by your ISP? This is a pretty common thing for ISP's to do as a SPAM prevention measure.

As you can see, there are quite a few ISP's blocking port 25 on this list.

My computer has input for an RJ45,but my fax machine uses RJ11, and has no other connection links.I have an HP color laser printer that is connected to my Lenovo H415 30991DU.Is there any way that my computer, fax, and printer can work in harmony?

Answer:Connect fax machine with RJ11 port to PC with RJ45 port

If the fax machine only has a standard phone jack (RJ11) then it cannot be connected to your computer. If it was intended to be connected to a computer it would have had a USB jack. Having a network jack (RJ45) would be less common but would mean that it was intended to be networked. There are fax machines and all-in-one machines available that would do what you want but that would require purchasing new hardware. Sorry. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Before I pull the trigger on a switch/switches, does it make any difference if I buy two 8-port switches and daisy-chain them vs. one 16-port switch?

Answer:Pros/cons to having two 8-port gigabit switches vs. one 16-port?

You will lose two ports by connecting them. So you will have a 14 port switch if you buy two 8 ports. Other than that, you wont notice a difference.

Intel has a line of dual-port NICs but all of them seem to use a single controller for both ports. Does that matter? In a worst case scenario, will two single-port PCIe x1 NICs perform better than the single dual-port NIC?

Answer:Intel multi-port NICs vs. single-port

Doesn't really matter. You won't really get any better performance using two individual NICs for the most part.

Hey guys, I am blanking out on this, one of my smaller clients just got some door access controllers installed, these are all ip based.

currently they are going internally to:

then they can access the door they want, they now want to access these externally.

i have done this before on older routers by doing a virtual server and having say port 8443 external go to 443 internal for, and say 8444 external to go to 443 internal for, etc.

i am using a D-Link DIR-655 and when i set that up, for https://wanip:8443, it prompts me for the certificate error, i click continue to website and its blank.

when i do a straight port forward, external 443 to internal 443, and, and go to https://wanip, i get the certificate error, click continue and I am working.

I know sometimes with these D-Links you gotta do some other tweaking but I am blanking out.

Any ideas?

Answer:Forwarding external port to a internal port - blanking out

Maybe 8443 is defaulting to something internal on the DStink...try a different external port like 8881 and remap to 443 internal.

I am using a program called Currports to monitor my ports and internet connections. I use Zonealarm Firewall as my firewall. Currports keeps asking to access the internet, and I keep denying it access because I don't see why this program would need to access the internet. Should I be allowing it to access the internet? Is there a valid reason why this type of program would need to access the internet? Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Answer:Solved: Should Port/Internet Connection monitoring program access internet?

Does not allowing it to access the Internet affect the information it gives you? Are you satisfied with the results? If all is well, I'd say you don't have to allow it. I personally use the program and I have no problem with letting it access the Internet. I have always found Nirsoft to be a trustworthy company. Besides, the program may need to access the Internet or its servers to find all the information it displays.

Dear Lenovo Community, Happy Holidays to you all and wish you a great happy new year. Recently purchased a Bluetooth OBDII device and have difficulty making it to work with its provided software on my T61 (running original XP Home). My short story and question/problem is that I can open "My Bluetooth Places" and pair with the OBDII device as an "OBDII SPP Dev", but my T61 assigns serial port COM19 to it. The OBDII software which came with the device only can let user set to one of the COM1 to COM8 ports and in the properties of Bluetooth pairing, there is no way that I can select which COM port to use. I looked at the Device Manager and I do see these COM port assignments: COM4,5,6,7: Sierra Wireless (the HSDA modem in the laptop which I have never used BTW) COM 9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17: Bluetooth Serial Port COM 18, 19: Bluetooth Communications Port and I don't see anything for COM1,2,3, and 8 My question is how to force the computer/OS to assign one of the COM1 to COM8 ports to my device upon pairing? Can I disable the Sierra Wireless model from the COM ports list and hope this will happen? Thanks for your help and inputs beforehand. Regards, AL

Answer:How to force the "Bluetooth Communications Port" to be one of COM1 to COM8 ports?

Hi, AL_K
Have you attempted to change the port number in device manager itself? If you navigate to Device Manager and open the list of Ports, you can right-click on the device you wish to assign a different port number. After right-clicking, click Properties. There should be a tab called Port Settings. In here, you should find a setting to manually assign a port number.
Good luck, and let me know how it goes,
