Sound problem with Dell Inspiron 8600

Question: Sound problem with Dell Inspiron 8600

Gasp, I know, I know, A problem with a Dell computer/laptop, can you believe it!? Sigh.

Anyway, I discovered the problem this evening (it's 1am in the morning here, Christmas day, but I refuse to rest until I can reach a conclusion on the problem - how sad!). I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop. I folded the lid down while the laptop was still running, then when I picked the laptop up again and tried to play music, there was no sound. None atall. No sound from Windows Media, no system sounds, nothing. When I plug the headphones in all I get is a fuzzing noise with an occasional feint bleep.

Ive gone through XP's 'troubleshooting' thing: there is no conflicts or anything like that, all the hardware is there. I had no problems with sound prior to this evening.

I know it's vague, but thats pretty much the gist of it. I cant think of any reason why the sound has just...stopped working. My only guess is that the machine has taken a bump and somethings become dislodged internally or something, because I cant find fault with any hardware. But I know comparitively little about computers.

I will ring dell in a few days time as I should imagine their officers will be closed, so until then, Id just like a second opinion if possible.

Edit/Update:

Well...

I turned the laptop off for the night. Then remembered I needed to transfer some files over onto my other PC (music files etc.), then suddenly the sound came back on my laptop!

Absolutely no explanation for it at all. Strange.

Do you think it's still worth informing Dell?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. Am at a loss, have tried paring down easily identifiable application tray programs and other obvious programs that might be tying up cycles. This is a Dell Inspiron 8600. Seems like the CPU gets up to 100% tied up and the disk thrashing at times when the system ought to be idle. Plenty of disk space left (~10GB). The CPU issue occurred even when running in safe mode (ran very slow).Hope you can help. Tonight I formatted and re-installed XP on my machine. After re-installing everything, and fudging around with the resources CD Dell gave me (I installed what I think is everything; I see nothing relating to video drivers), I noticed something was wrong with my video settings. I only have two resolution settings: 800x600 and 1024x768.

I have tried everything from Windows Update (which on a fresh install only gave me 18 updates, all critical--just security stuff) to getting the latest drivers from NVidia. I believe my card is a mobile FX5200 GO. The card isn't showing up on my device manager at all. I think the problem has to do with my Video Controller, which is showing up as not installed. When I try to install it via the New Hardware Found utility, it says the drivers cannot be found neither on Windows or my resources CD.

Any help is appreciated, I would like to skip having to call Dell.

Thanks for looking and hopefully helping

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop, with a NVIDIA GeForce FX5650 128mb Graphics Card, and 15.4" SXVGA Screen, running XP Pro. The laptop is 6 yrs. old and about a month ago it started doing weird things, graphically.

The first symptoms were little worms on the screen, while in Windows, moving around in patches, then it progressed to stripes during startup, with intermittent colored stripes, during bios startup, and during login screen, and while running windows. Sometimes it just jumbles the colors and make it really pixilated or fuzzy and freezes the screen.

SO, I figured it was probably the Video Card, (at least that is the cheapest thing to replace) so I bought one on eBay, a GeForce 5200 64mb "tested" card, and it gave me more problems and never got beyond startup. I contacted the seller, he sent a new one (no questions asked) and this one let me get into Windows, but started the same thing again. I contacted him and he quickly refunded my money.

SO, in an attempt to nail down the culprit I plugged the S-Video cable in to my TV, and sure enough the same thing that was on the screen, the colors, the patterns, etc. was on the TV. Now, I am confused as to whether it is the graphics card or the lcd, but common sense tells me it is the graphics card and I would be safe to buy another on eBay (from someone other than last seller).

Does anyone agree with my logic? Or disagree? Or have another way or solution? Thanks ... Read more

I'm looking for an aftermarket replacement hard drive for a dell inspiron 8600. We ordered this: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822144376 and it won't fit, even though newegg said it would. It has a form factor of 2.5", and it looked like the old dell hard drive had shorter pins. I can't find much specs anywhere so does someone know of one that would work? thanks a bunch.

yesterday, my computer was in the middle of a chkdisk i switched off the power point because of a thunder storm, to prevent a surge. ironically, i havnt been able to get it to turn on since.
a few things about my inspiron 8600; the power cord had previously been cut and re joined and since then never worked on battery alone. but still always worked on power adapter. is this something to do with the power adapter or a bigger problem? wen i press the power button it lights up for 1-2 seconds then goes dead. the screen flashes for a second then nothing. do i need a new power cord?
thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give...

My wifes inspiron has problems. When I try to boot on the battery I get

Manufacturing Mode: Level [67]
Press Fn-X to return the system to normal running mode.
No timer tick interrupt.

Fn-x does nothing.

If I boot up with the charger plugged in it may or may not boot all the way into windows, and if it does make it to windows it locks up before you can do anything. Same thing in safe mode.

Ran all the Dell diagnostics.

Pre-boot System assessment: all passed

Express Test: all pass

Extended test: Hangs on Battery Charger test

Custom tests: passed 3 iterations of all except battery charger test, which hangs.

Charger is charging the battery and battery is holding charge, as indicated by batteries onboard LED's.

I have reseated the RAM, HDD, and DVD.

Please help.

This is my fault but what happened is I have this Dell laptop and one day I was board so I thought what better to do then rip it apart and see whats in there. I did just this and put it all back together or so I thought. When I turn the laptop back on the caps lock light flashes 9 or 10 times and the system never boots up. I am pretty sure that this light is flashing to tell me where I messed up but I can't find my answer anywhere. I was hoping someone knew the dell site a bit better then I do and could help me find the answer to my small but painful issue.

Thanks Ben

Within the last day my screen will go completely black... not like when it is turned off, but a completely deep black. No cursor, nothing. Is this a virus I have??? It's a DELL Inspiron 8600 with Win XP Pro. It did it the first time while on Facebook. So I shut it off and tried again. Second time it did it on Facebook again, third time, on desktop screen, fourth was at start-up. I booted in f 2 and went to diagnostics and it went black as soon as page popped up withCPU or whatever and then proceeded to do a series of 3 beeps at different intervals. After listening to that horrid sound for about 3 minutes, I shut if off !!! lol Turned on and again did f 2 and started in first option (can't recall exact name) of internal HD ??? and this is how I ended up here . Still on and going, but for how long? No clue. Am wondering if this is a virus I have or is my laptop really about to bite the dust? Currently running a full scan on Malwarebytes. Do you have EVERYTHING from the hard drive stored on CD, DVD, or other hard drive?Do you have the restore discs for the machine?Formatting the drive is not a problem; it's getting the drivers and windows back on and working that is the challenge. I swapped out an Intel 2100(b) for a 2200bg. Windows wants to load a driver for it but cannot find one. I've downloaded various drivers that are stated to work with the 8600 and for the 2200bg but still nothing.

Any ideas? Either I get a message the hardware is not installed or the driver is not installed. Depends on the version of software/driver I install.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 8600 & Intel 2200BG WiFi

I've installed a lot of 2200bg cards into Dells, and only ever used the regular 2200bg driver off Intel's site. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=1637

With XP, I prefer to let it manage the WiFi connections, so I just download the bare driver rather than their whole utility.

Hi, I searched your forums and many others and cannot find an answer. A friend has given me his laptop to try and get it working. I work on pc's and not laptops so I'm a little bit in a stump.

When turned on the laptop would boot for a bit and then I would get the virtual memory dump message and it would take about 2 mins to reboot again and it would all repeat again. I finally got it booted up and tried safe mode with the same issues.

I then booted the laptop up again in safemode but had networking disabled and it worked. No virtual memory dump issues and I had the laptop restored to default factory setting. Its running windows xp professional. I cant update and get online with it because of disabling the networking functions. Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this?

Thank you in advance!

Ok, so I don't know if it is the motherboard or if it is actually the lcd monitor.
I will be using the laptop and then all of a sudden the screen goes black, like the computer was turned off. I pop up the power button panel and pill the monitor cable from the motherboard, wait a few seconds and plug it back in and it will work for a few more seconds and then go black again.
I believe that it is the monitor, but I am not sure. I have been noticing that whenever I turn my laptop on from the sleep mode, that the screen is a pink color and then slowly goes to the normal white color. I am not having any other problems with the computer, except the microphone jack. When trying to use a microphone, when it does detect sound, it just plays back a high pitch static sound.
But besides the monitor and the microphone jack, I am not having any other problems.

If I have to replace my motherboard will I loose all of my info on the computer? Because I will have to try and get it all backed up if so. Please help me!!! Thank you so much!!!

The DVD/CD optical drive in my Inspiron 8600 is starting to go intermittantly bad on me and I'm looking for a replacement/upgrade. Dell wants $100 for a REFURBISHED replacement. I'd like to get an upgraded drive (DVD/CD burner with Blueray), but am unsure as to what specs to look for. Hi, I'm new to the forums so I'm not sure if this is in the right section but on my old Dell Inspiron 8600 the battey led light keeps flashing orange 4 times followed by a green light. I've read that this is caused by a faulty battery cell. However, since this model is so old it would be a waste of money to buy a new battery. Is there a way to fix it so that this doesn't happen without buying a new battery or taking the battery out of the laptop? Is there a registry fix or what not that will sort out this problem or will I have to shove my battery in the fridge (an answer to someone else's post on another forum)? Thanks

does it work without the battery installed - some machines will and some wont

I took it out, put it back in (same slot and even tired a different slot), Installed the Windows 8 driver for it, restarted my pc and it's not there. No where.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 660 - Sound Blaster Recon 3D PCIe Problem

What is the status of the sound card in the Device Manager? Does it show as working correctly or does it have an error code? If you reinstalled the driver that says Windows is recognizing the sound card. If it wasn't being recognized the drivers would not install.

I have already tried twice to format window, uninstall sound drivers and only keeping High Definition Audio native driver only but the problem is not getting rectified. I have also done diagnostic test but everything fine in Test. Please help me with this problem, I am unable to listen music and watch movies. Your Help will be highly appreciated.

Anybody got any idea on what could be wrong????

Answer:dell insiron 8600 turn on problem

Wow! I thought I was the only one with this problem. Mine quit yesterday. It's still under warranty but getting support from Dell is a joke. From what I am understanding from other forums it may be the motherboard. Ouch!

i have just purchased a DELL Inspiron 15 5000 SERIES - 5559 with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed in Spanish. I have also purchased a DELL 24" additional screen SE2416H.
Whilst watching live internet broadcasts (TV, Youtube etc.) on Chrome, Edge or Firefox, as soon as I connect the screen to the laptop by HDMI cable, the sound on my laptop speakers disappears. Upon disconnection of the HDMI screen cable, the sound re-appears.
However, the sound doesn't disappear when using other sound applications such as Skype.
This means I can't enjoy watching internet TV with sound on the 24" screen.
Please advise how to fix this as the main point of purchasing the 24" screen was precisely to be able to watch (and listen to) TV programs.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

There is no dedicated Windows 8 Driver for the ATI Mobility X300/X600/X1300/X1400 graphics cards but I have documented that the Windows Vista Driver R153383.exe will install and work reliably in Microsoft Windows8.
The steps for installation are listed below:

Download the R153383.exe drvier from: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=R153383 and extract the compressed files, then cancel the automatic installation of the driver (It crashed out on me when I ran the install)
From The Style UI interface, move the mouse pointer to the lower left corner, and Right Click, select Device Manager from the pop-up menu.
Click the arrow next to Display Adapter, Microsoft Basic Display should be listed.
Right Click the Microsoft Basic Display and click Update Driver, then select Browse My Computer ...., then Click Let Me Pick From a List ....
Click the HAVE DISK Button in the Install from Disk Window, browse to the C:\Dell\Drivers\R153383\Packages\Driver\Display\LH_INF folder and click CL_45540.inf then Click Open and OK to install the driver.

I have completed this process on both an Inspiron E1505/6400 and Inspiron 6000 and both systems are working fine, even power management seems to function well.

Answer:How to install Windows 8 video/graphics drivers for an Inspiron 6000/6400/E1505/8600/9100/9200/9300/9400/E1705 Latitude D610/D810 or Inspiron XPS notebook system

Can you get a multiple display with a projector? I was able to get the ATI Mobility x300 as the display adapter, but I can only get one display at a time. With XP, I could see my laptop screen duplicated on a projector and I would like to be able to do the same under Windows 8.
When I check the display with the Control Panel, it allows for only one display and the monitor is a generic PnP monitor and the adapter is the Microsoft Basic Display driver.
I didn't use the method that you suggested to get the X300 adapter.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

I have a new issue with my Dell Inspiron 8600 series computer. I recently relocated and my new condo will not allow me to turn on my computer normally. It will allow me to turn it on in safe mode. Periodically it will boot up normally then crackle, show a black screen, shut down then automatically reboot only the same thing happens over and over. I've taken it to Staples and had a diagnostics test and tune up. They basically looked at me like I had 2 heads when I told them what was happening. They found nothing wrong. I was then told they would have only checked my hard drive and it may have something to do with my software. I have Window XP. Strangely enough, I can open my computer and use it normally at other locations like Panera Bread and the Library. I feel like this is a simple problem but I'm not that computer savy to know what is wrong. Can someone please give me some input on this issue.
Thank you kindly,
bb

I have posted here before with amazing results so I am again asking for your help. I have an Inspiron that recently started acting up. The LCD would dim at odd times so after assessing that the screen was good, I ran diagnostics that came back with a failing mobo. I replaced it and all was going well for a few days until today. Now when I go to boot up, nothing shows up on the screen and then I hear two beeps. I hear the CD drive going through its normal start up sounds and the sound of the hard drive, but no Dell logo on the screen, nothing. Just the two beeps. Anybody? I am frustrated beyond belief at this point. I consider myself pretty adept at handling any issue as to component replacement, I just need to know what is going on. I have no warranty left. Thanks for any light you can shed...

Answer:Inspiron 8600 HELP PLEASE!!

Beep codes
http://www.amptron.com/html/bios.beepcodes.html
AMI is the only one that shows two beeps and it says bad memory.
If you have two memory chips in, remove one and boot up. Granted, the computer will be noticeably slower on half the memory. If you hear no problems, then the other chip might be bad.

I have an Inspiron 660 desktop that I bought about 3.5 years ago. I updated to Windows 10 and have recently started using a Dell U2415 UltraSharp Monitor. The sound bar was working well with the new monitor and desktop until about a week ago I noticed the sound started getting low, then completely out, then came back on like normal.  It worked fine for the last week, then it started doing it again today and now completely no sound.  I have tried headphones and two different Dell sound bars and the sound doesn't work on any of them.  I have looked at settings and device manager and it says the 'Intel (R) Display Audio' is working correctly.
I have looked at different solutions, including downloaded the latest audio (Conexant Smart Audio Driver) and chip driver updates (12/15) and still no luck.  Can someone please help?

I have had my dell for approx 3 years now and the other day my sound suddenly stopped working (no sound from ear plugs either). I restarted the computer and it made no difference. I can't play any sounds (no sound when the comp turns on, no sound on itunes, "Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration,"Youtube etc etc you get the picture.

I found some solutions online but none of the settings seem to have changed when I attempted to change them. So I went into safe mode and the speaker icon on the bottom right hand corner has a cross on it indicating that there is no sound (there was nothing of the sort when i wasn't in safe mode) I looked for solutions online and went into Services > Windows Audio to press START and the following came up "Windows could not start the windows audio service on local computer error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start."

I have also tried system restore, but am unable to do so and the following appears "No restore systems have been created on your computer's system disk."

Please someone help, thank you in advance

The first thing I would recommend would be go to dell's site and download the audio drivers for your machine

make sure to download the right one for your operating system (vista, 7 or xp)
install them and see if that fixes the issue

while listening to a mp3 from a music web site, i had inadvertently gotten my leg caught

I unhooked the speakers thinking I could still listen via the built in speakers.

I now have no sound! What would have caused this? Do you think a wire is loose ? all the controls show the volume up and the mute is off.

Any thoughts help ideas many thanks

According to the folks at Dell I need a new motherboard. I'll put it to you here first. I get error messgaes when running the diags either from the CD or from F12. Here are the symptoms that prompted the diags. My screen boots in a dim mode. from the dell logo on it looks like the screen is in a power saver mode. Both on AC adapter as well as battery power. All power saver modes are off. If I adjust the angle of the screen, it'll go blank sometimes or other times the images on the screen are shaky like they are vibrating. If I type, the screen goes back and forth between full backlight and dim backlight. Sometimes it even gibberishes the words on the screen to look like another language. If I bumb it just right, the screen will boounce back to normal. If I bump too hard, the display goes out. At reboot, I get a "two beep" signal and no boot. I have opened it up to check connections, I have replaced the LCD with a new one (thinking it might be the inverter or backlight) but still the same behavior. That's when I got Dell online to help me troubleshoot and they said definitely motherboard issies. Any thoughts before I invest further? Thanks folks!

Answer:Inspiron 8600 LCD is acting up

I can't believe I'm saying this, BUT: I'd have to agree with Dell tech support ( There's a first time for everything! ). If a new LCD didn't fix the problem, it's probably the motherboard. There's a chance the AC adapter isn't strong enough; maybe hook it to a multimeter to be sure it's kicking out the correct amps, volts, and watts. If any of those are low, you would see a dim display.

I haven't been out here in a while; but as a result of previous forays on Tech Spot, I regularly update and run AVG free 9.0, Malwarebytes' Anti-malware, Super Anti-Spyware, Ccleaner and Easyclean - I additionally run Threatfire and Comodo, which take care of themselves. None of these applications have detected anything more than "potentially dangerous objects" (in super Anti-Spyware) .. even when run as "full" scans.

However, lately I've been encountering all manner of intermittent minor but annoying issues:

- no response when I click on anything in a browser while online .. though not a firm "lock up" situation necessarily. I've discovered that during these non-responsive episodes, that opening Windows Task Manager "unlocks" the situation and I can once again click on something and it will work. However, many times I will have to leave Task Manager open and repeatedly click anywhere on its open window to "toggle" on a response mechanism in my browser so that I may continue with whatever I was doing. How weird is that?!?

- I don't set up a screensaver on my desktop, so when a set amount of time has gone by without activity, the screen will just go black. All I have to do is touch a key to restore the desktop. But I've occasionally noticed that this doesn't happen .. the desktop just remains visible, often for hours, without any action from me (and I haven't changed any ... Read more

My daughter dropped the laptop and no I cannot get it to power up.
I tried to turn on with the battery out and just the adapter plugged in to no avail. There are no lights on the laptop coming on at all, even while charging with the adapter. I have tried to remove the ram and reinsert, still nothing.
I took the hard drive out to see if it was damaged, nothing to the eye.
I am hoping it's nothing serious, the laptop is kinda old but has been working perfect till the drop. Just wondering if there is anything else I can try?

It landed on the top left corner on the bottom where the fan is and there is a little crack in the plastic, but other than that I see nothing physically broken.

Any help will be appreciated.

Can anyone help here?

I got a Dell Inspiron 1525 back in September. Runs on Vista.

A few weeks ago, I began noticing a crackling sound that was coming from the top left hand corner of the keyboard section of the laptop, right near where the 'Inspiron' logo is. It doesn't usually start until I've had the computer running for 30 minutes or so.

I called Dell and shipped the computer to their facility since it's still under warranty. They sent it back saying that they could not detect any problem with any of the hardware and therefore, did not fix anything. Sure enough, after getting it back and turning it on and being on it for 30 minutes or so, the sound is still there.

Everything about the computer works fine...the Internet, my progams. It isn't slow or anything. But this sound just doesn't sound right.

Does anyone have any ideas what this may be? Could it be an issue with the laptop's fans? If so, aren't the fans considered to be part of the hardware?

Thanks for any light anyone may be able to shed on this issue.

- Brian

I have brand new a Dell Inspiron 7559 (Core i5 model) which i received 2 days ago.  The inbuilt speakers work fine. I have an N5110 Inspiron. I bought it around 6 years ago. It had a faulty HDD so I had it replaced about 5.5 years ago. It has been working fine since then.
However, it has been making a weird clicking sound from the beginning. It usually occurs when the HDD is idle (the HDD led isn't on). Sometimes it doesn't happen for minutes whereas other times it happens a couple of seconds apart. I was wondering what could this be?
My laptop is getting quite old and currently, I cannot replace it so I want to keep it functional as long as possible. Could this clicking reduce the life-expectancy of my HDD, is it a sign of something faulty? If yes, what can I do to prevent an HDD failure and losing all my files?

Answer:Dell N5110 Inspiron HDD clicking sound

They don't call it click death for nothing.  The drive is trying to recalibrate track zero and isnt finding it. So the drive is likely to die very soon and lose everything.  Drives die, this isn't a fault anymore than the brakes on your car or other mechanical things like tires wearing out from use.

Answer:No sound from Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop

It sounds like you haven't installed the sound/audio drivers, which aren't part of XP and which you should be able to get from the Dell website. There may be other drivers you need to install too - look in Device Manager for yellow exclamation marks.

I'm working on an inspiron 6000 and it doesn't have audio. I reinstalled the audio drivers (sigmatel STAC 975X AC97) and it worked fine. Sent the customer home with it fixed. She called an hour later and said there is no sound. I confirmed with her that it wasn't muted or something dumb like that. She brings it back and sure enough there is no audio. The device shows up in device manager like it should, no yellow ? or anything like that. I re-reinstalled the audio driver again and it worked fine......until i did a reboot.

Any Ideas why it seems to fail over and over after reboots???

I just received this computer in the last couple of weeks.  The bass and lower end frequencies sound really really bad on this system.  I thought it was a problem with the internal speakers but I just tried a set of tried and true external speakers and they sound exactly the same.  Mid and upper range frequencies are nice and clear but anything low sound muffled and clipped.  I've played with all the various settings and tried different EQ settings - nothing.  Anyone else have this issue and know a fix?

Answer:Dell Inspiron One All-in-one computer sound is awful

That is unusual. The sound out of the audio jacks should not be affected by any internal processing unless you specifically enable it.  Here are a couple of things to try.
1) Disable all of the THX sound features. You have to disable them all one by one.  See if that changes the sound output
2) Disable all Realtek sound effects in their control panel (EQ, reverbs). See if that changes anything.
3) Finally, disable al audio enhancements in the Windows audio control panels. This can be done by right clicking on the Windows speaker in systray, select Playback devices, double click on the Speakers or Line Out/Headphone Out bar in the list, select the Enhancements tab, and click on the "Disable all enhancements." NOTE: this is very literal. It will disable all of the audio effects on that output device including the two items listed above. It basically forces the driver to stop doing any extra stuff it was doing before.
If you do resort to step 3, you will need to be careful with playing back audio on the internal speakers. Sometimes there are Equalization and filter settings to help protect the speakers inside the system.

Answer:No sound on Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop help

I have had similar problems. First things is older laptops will be slower and the clock rates inside are slower and the software is getting mor demanding on speed.I would recommend reinstalling XP (I assume it's this) to clean everything out). You should have the DELL discs, if not get them from DELL. Make sure you extract all Keys from the laptop first so the reinstall is legit and you can get all the updates (SP3 etc).If you don't want to do that get the audio driver from DELL (that's what I did on the same laptop some time ago).I would not think the laptop can be upgraded to Vista (too slow) but you may consider Ubuntu as an alternative (may not be quicker but just a thought).Google your problems and you should get answers for a common laptop such as that one.

I have dell 15R (N5010) and have problem with audio drivers. When i upgrade to Windows 10 my audio drivers doesn't work and no have sound. I spoke with Microsof community, he send me to dell... It's rly funny because dell leave users of older laptops because they no have profits for that. The warranty is over so bye :) Someone can help me?

Answer:Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10

Warning to anyone reading this thread:
Make sure you know your model name before installing a driver!
The subject of this thread is "Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10". The problem is that there is no model with that exact name. There is an Inspiron 15 N5010, and an Inspiron 15R N5110.
They are different models and use different drivers. In other words, the audio driver for the N5010 is not meant for the N5110, and vice versa.
To complicate matters, somebody named aimeehuang posted in this thread and put in a link named "dell 15r n5010 drivers download". But if you click on the link it goes to a page for Inspiron 15R N5110.The person named "aimeehuang" is not a regular on this discussion board and probably got the model names confused.
Check your model name. If you have an Inspiron 15 N5010, use the IDT R280657 audio driver. It is meant for Win7, so install it into Win10 using compatibility mode (instructions below).
If you have an Inspiron 15R N5110, use the IDT 6.10.0.6421 audio driver. It is meant for Windows 8. It might install without a problem into Win10, but if there is a problem, install it using compatibility mode (instructions below).
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive..2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write... Read more

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7537 i7-4510U, 16.6" Touch. It had Windows 8.1 in it.
It has been working great so far, apart from one BIG problem - the audio playback quality is terrible.
When I try listening to music, I can barely hear any low-ends (or bass). I tried different plugging different equipment - my Sony stereo system, as well as, Beats Pro headphones - both yielded dissapointing results. For example, the same file played on my iPod sounds MUCH better than it does on my new Dell Inspiron. Same goes for playing the same YouTube video on another computer using the same headphones. It seems that every other equipment (another laptop, iPod, iPhone) all sound the same and much better my Inspiron.
The audio drivers are up to date (they were selected automatically based on my model on dell.com). I also tried changing Equalizers on the Realtek sound card settings. I noticed the difference, but all of the options still resulted in a vastly inferior sound quality vs. my older laptop (which I'm pretty sure has default settings, as I never had any problem with audio quality).
Does anyone have any idea how can I fix the issue? I heard Windows 8.1 on some laptops may have some problems with low-end sound, could that be the case? My older laptop also uses Windows 8.1, as does the stationary PC, so I personally doubt it. Is it possible that this could be a manufacturing defect on the sound card?
Any ideas how can I fix the sound quality are much ... Read more

Hello. Try switching to the Windows native audio driver:
1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and 6.]
If there is still no bass then it could be a hardware problem and for that you should contact tech support. Make sure that the eq in your music player (i.e. Windows Media Player) is set to normal. Also when comparing to other playback devices, all of their eq and other enhancements should be set to flat, to try to compare apples to apples as much as possible.

Now, this proves to be an elusive solution. Even when I first had to worry about this back about a year ago. Unfortunately I cannot find the answer anymore.

I was unfortunately put into a situation in which I had to get Vista on my computer (I for some reason didn't even think to set up a dual-partition) which is the Inspiron 6000 by Dell. With the Sigmatel C-Major Audio card there don't seem to be any primary drivers that work with Vista. I know there is a third party one out there somewhere, however I have had no luck. Does anyone happen to have a solution to this? It is driving me mad.

Hi Develop! Have you tried here? http://downloads.zdnet.com/abstract.aspx?docid=520681 Hope that helps. If not, just Google 'Sigmatel C-Major Audio. There's a whole list pertaining to your card.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600, my hard drive crashed and I need a new one. My problem is I cannot seem to find one that will fit my computer. The drive that came out of it has 22 contacts and 3 pins that go into the interface in the computer. I can only seem to find drives that have all pins. Even Dell has sent me the wrong drive 3 stinkin times. First they sent one with all pins, next the send a HD that resembles a cd/dvd drive.

HELP!!!!!! Can anyone out there help me???

I recently dropped my Inspiron 8600 Notebook. It landed on a corner. It is still working, but it occasionally it won't power on unless I mess with the screen (flex it up and down). It used to standby when I closed the lid. Now it stands-by for about 2 minute intervals (standby then comes back on, standby then comes back on....). I've checked my power options and they haven't changed. Sometimes, when I power it on, the light that indicates I am connected to AC power doesn't immediately come on as it used to. It may take having the laptop turned on for 5 plus minutes to finally see the light come on. My volume controls and mute button that are located right above the keyboard no longer work. I have to use the volume control properties on my system tray to adjust the volume. I'm not sure if my fan is working like it used to. Does anyone have any recommendations? Could it have knocked something loose when I fumbled it? Is it a relatively easy fix or should I ship it to Dell or another laptop repair service? If so, does anyone have any recommendations outside of Dell? Thanks in advance!!!

Hi
my Dell Inspiron 14z is stuck on the Dell Logo at boot up.
it was working well yesterday, but just become freeze at boot up
I can't press F2 F8 or F12 because it freezes at this point.
Releasing the residual charge did nothing (I drained the battery, have no courage to remove battery as the procedure is kind of complicated) - same problem
Restarting and tapping F12 highlights 'Boot options' but at this point it freezes.
Restarting with Fn pressed had no effect - same problem.

Any advice greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Eric

Hello everyone I have a very pressing problem. I had Vista running on my Inspiron 1520 Laptop. I recently upgraded to Windows 7, ever since then I have had terrible trouble with my Wireless Card. The driver for the card often comes up as not being able to start I often get Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card can not start Code 10. I have read that this was a problem when reinstalling a OS or installing a new one with this card. I believe I may need a driver for the chip set or something similar. I also understand that I may have to swap back to Vista though I really do hope I don't. I do believe that a recent update from Dell has made this problem chronic as I did not have this problem when I immediately got the laptop back.

I really am hoping that I can get some help here as Dell is not bothered to help as I am out of warranty and they don't seem to care about this older model laptop.

Thanks again for all your help

Conor,
Ireland

Since a few weeks ago, my microphone has only been working when tilting the screen forward. I saw a previous discussion (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-pictures/microphone-not-working-that-in-installed-in-my/f4e6d450-8bee-4981-9afc-9f5b86a633f0?auth=1 ) where people have reported similar problems. Although my laptop was still under warranty when I reported the problem to Dell, they proceeded to sending me an onsite technician with a repair microphone part who said that he could not replace just the microphone because I had a touchscreen (you would think Dell would have checked to send the right part), then a refurbished new screen that did not work at all on my computer, and then refused to solve the problem by arguing that my system was no longer under warranty (which it was not by the time they finally sent the non working screen and I called back to ask for another one to be sent—it was all problems from their side). Wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and if they were able to fix it themselves, as now my microphone is not working at all, not even when I tilt the screen.

I have also noticed the same problem for the touch screen. It only works when the screen is tilted forward, and I am afraid that, like the microphone, it will reach a point of no return. It seems to me that there is some faulty wiring from the screen components into the base. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi!
I have bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7567, and yesterday I noticed, that my laptop makes very quiet ticking sound. The sound very similar to HDD's head movement sound, the only problem is, that in my laptop there is no HDD. I use just 2 SSD (1 X M.2 PCI-E x4 [Samsung 960 EVO], and 1 X SATA 3 2.5" [Samsung 850 EVO]). In this model there's no optical drive, so the only mechanical part of this laptop, that coud generate this sound, if it would be mechanical sound, is the fan system. but strangely the ticking sound only hearable when the fans stop spinning.
So I don't think, that the fans would create this sound, because when I can see in AIDA64 that fans speed is 0 RPM, the ticking sound exactly then hearable.
Additionaly strangely, when I unplug the laptop from AC, the ticking sound almost stops (It not stops, but the click sound becomes rare)... After I plug the AC back, the ticking continues...
Do somebody sensed the same? Is it normal? My opinion, that the sound caused by on of the electronical units bad groundings, or something. Although there's no power or other issue with my laptop now, but I don't want to wait until it gets bad...
Thanks!

Hi lightpowerKB,
Just to eliminate the AC adapter, can we try another adapter on this system? Update the BIOS and chipset driver to the latest available from our Dell support site.
Please click my DELL-username and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your email address.

Hi Guys,
New laptop Dell Inspiron 13 5368 2-in-1 was bought in November 2016.
It worked fine during certain period; however, rather weird issue with sound started occurring. It disappears randomly. For example, sound can disappear during Skype call (the main purpose of laptop usage). It disappears almost completely; it is very hard to hear something. In the event of regular Skype call (when sound is present), you can hear your own voice with some extra noise.

Several scenarios were performed:
A.
1) Reinstalled drivers from official Dell website;
2) Unchecked the “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device” (speakers -> properties -> advanced)
3) Selected “do nothing” in Sounds -> Communications
4) Driver was changed to Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from Dell website
5) Driver was changed to standard Microsoft one

B.
Reinstalled drivers in different order

C.
1) Reinstalled Windows 10 using the recovery disk from Dell support website
2) Installed drivers according to the “Installation order” section at http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-13-5368-2-in-1-laptop/drivers/advanced

Sound disappearing frequency is random, from one week to 1.5 months.
Then sound can appear in one of the following cases:
1)     By itself, without any action
2)     Reboot
3)     Reinstalling audio drivers
4) &nbs... Read more

Hello. In that thread, Alan_P_Rice  wrote: "I have not experienced this when using headphones. " I took that to mean that only the speakers fade out, while audio remains okay through headphones. I should have asked him for clarification about that. Is your issue just with the speakers, or does headphone audio fade out too?

usatankSound disappearing frequency is random, from one week to 1.5 months.
When an issue is not resolved by re-installing the OS, that is a pretty good indication that the problem is caused by hardware. However, if the issue did not reappear until weeks after the OS reinstallation, then can't tell if it is a software or hardware problem.
usatank Reinstalled drivers from official Dell website;
In the thread referenced, celtic_mist reported fixing it with the Reaktek 2.81 driver. He linked to a third party site, however that is the driver which is directly available from Realtek's site, if you want to try it.
usatank the suggestions didn’t help me to resolve the issue.
There are additional suggestions in the Recent Issues FAQ, under Inspiron (13") 53xx & 73xx, Issue 2, but that was an issue with only the speakers, not headphones., and it occurred much more frequently than yours does, so might not apply to your situa... Read more
