Looking to upgrade

Question: Looking to upgrade

Specs:

Make/Model: Toshiba Satellite C55D-B series (laptop)
OS: Windows 8.1 (going to Windows 10 when it comes out)
CPU: AMD APU r8 2.0 GHz Quad-Core (64-bit processor, x64-based processor)
GPU: AMD Radeon r5 Graphics (**Looking for upgrade**)
RAM: 4 GB (3.44 GB Usable **This is also what I'm looking to upgrade**)
HDD: 1 TB HDD

(I've attached my dxdiag if you need more information)

Description:

So basically I'm looking to upgrade my physical memory to support mid-high end gaming (Nothing higher than maybe Nosgoth, H&G, so basically nothing EXTREMELY high, but I've noticed that even though I may be past the minimum requirements for games - I still get FPS issues (for example, Team Fortress 2, in which I am far past the minimum requirements I have to run on a DirectX level of 8 or 8.1, when my DirectX level is 11. OS supports 128 GB, but I did some research and the motherboard can support up to 16 GB (Which I've heard from other sources on TS is a bit overkill for gaming) so I was looking to get an 8 GB RAM stick but I don't want to look under the bottom and identify the RAM stick before I know what to get - so can anyone help me?

Basically what I'm looking for right now is; what should I upgrade and if it is the RAM or GPU what should I get that isn't over-the-top amazing, but will get me 60+ fps on most games (not next-gen games like GTA V or any of the new-new games - but games like Nosgoth, TF2, L4D2 (which I can already run 30-40+ on high-extra graphics), League of Legends, etc.)

Also, just a quick question - for the AMD Radeon r5 Graphics, how hot is too hot for the GPU core? Even in a cold environment with it on standby for the night - the temperature (in fahrenheit) is 110+ (when according to Open Hardware Monitor the max is 147.2 (as of writing this it's fluctuation between about 110-130). And, does a hot GPU affect performance? If so, to what extent?
Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Looking to upgrade

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got windows 7 professional 64 bit from microsoft. I have a w500 running vista business 32bit on 4gb ram. If i upgrade to windows 7 64bit - will all my drivers get installed through system update and work perfectly yet? or should I wait a couple months and then upgrade? More importantly, I have no clue what the best practice to upgrade from 32vista to 7-64bit is. My disk 0 (info from computer disk  management) w500 has three partitions (c drive, lenovo q drive - for factory software partition, and a 1.46gb servicev003 S: ) and a disk 1 with 1.37GB (maybe the intel turbo boost memory? ). How do I do a clean install without losing these drives? Don't mind losing the c drive data as that is backed up, but the rest?! I found lots of hits and lots of responses on the forums and throughout the internet, and have spent more than 5 hours looking around for instructions. I'd greatly appreciate if anyone could give me some instructions to walk through this please?

The install link recieved was used and the download happened, agreed to license agreement, upgrade appeared to go normally. Didn't stay with it the whole time but saw it start to do a shutdown, closed everything and then gave the message configuring updates and was at 4% but not changing for the few seconds that I watched it. Came back 10 mins later and it was showing the spinning circle and saying Shutting Down. Still like that over an hour an there doesn't appear to be any activity. Saw in a forum that you need to disable security. I have Norton and didn't do that. Wish that would have been instructions with the upgrade pertaining to that.

Hi everyone.

I have the Toshiba Upgrade Disc for Windows 7 Home Premium as I am currently running Vista Home Premium 64bit.

I do choose the 64bit upgrade version path with the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant.
However, I get knocked out with the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant dialogue box saying "Your system is not applicable to upgrade. You can refer Windows 7 upgrade information http://www.csdsupport.toshiba.com/tais/csd/support/windows7upgrade/" after it checks out the first 4 criteria as being correct.

Any help would be appreciated.

I did buy my notebook from the USA but live in Australia. However, I was able to order the Windows 7 upgrade disk from Australia when I arranged for my model notebook to be added to the eligible upgrades on the Website.

For general information, I was able to get a hold of a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit full version disk. From this, I chose Windows 7 Home Premium as the version I purchased.
I used my Product Key from my Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Disc and chose the upgrade version.

There were 3 applications from memory which were incompatible with Windows 7 so I uninstalled them and used the Toshiba Windows 7 Driver updates to install what I could. It all works fine and MS update naturally recognises the key as genuine.

However, all this defeats the purpose of why I can't upgrade from the upgrade disc.

Thanks.

Hi

Did you use the Toshiba preinstalled Vista OS before you used the Win 7 upgrade disk?

How about a clean install? This should be possible as well? the Win 7 Toshiba drivers could be downloaded from the Toshiba US driver page?

This question applied to the free online upgrade from Win7 or 8 to Win 10 that was offered and probably now applies to the Accessibility upgrade that is still being offered. So let's say I currently have Win7 and it's slow with adware (It hasn't been maintained properly - some folks don't know how). So if I had a Win 10 install disk I'd wipe the hard disk and install 10 fresh.

So I have a "messed-up" Win7 I want to upgrade. Question: Could I wipe the disk, reinstall Win7 with product key, activate it. And then go strait to the Accessibility upgrade and get Win10? Not even spend the time to update Win7, just do the Win7 reinstall and go strait to the Win10 online upgrade(?)

It seems to me this would give me a cleaner Win10.

Thanks.

Answer:Reinstall Barebones Win7, Then Online Upgrade to 10 for Clean Upgrade?

During the free offer period one needed Win7 w/SP or Win8.1 to qualify.

There is no "clean upgrade", upgrade implies there is an Operating System installed. The Win7 Upgrade discs had to be run from within Windows, would not boot. I have such a 3-pack Upgrade copy with 3 installs available that I haven't used yet.

AIM 6.5 Upgrade causes media to no longer play on versions of Vista DO NOT UPGRADE...the cause of media no longer playing on Windows Media Player and iTunes and all other media players was linked on my PC to the download and installation of AIM 6.5. It also caused my network icon in my system tray show i was no longer connected to a network, and it was an unknown network.

To fix these problems use the system restore program that Vista comes with and restore your PC to a saved version before your installation of AIM 6.5.

Hopefully this helps everyone having these problems.

Note: Aim will no longer work after doing system restore, so you have to re-install in, and if you dont have the install package for 6.0 saved somewhere on your computer do not re-install 6.5, go to the aim site and look for the classic version 5.9.

Answer:alienware R3 13,3 inch the latest 2017 ram upgrade and nvidia upgrade

Yes, the RAM can be upgraded to 2X16 = 32 G.
The internal GPU cannot be upgraded - you'd need to buy an external Alienware graphics amplifier and use an external GPU to upgrade.

I am trying to prep a computer to give to a friend. Last night, I reformatted it using the recovery discs that came with it. It is a Tosh Satellite A105.

Today, I have been finding and installing updates to the system, trying to prepare it for an upgrade to win7, which is no easy task since I have had to go out and find some of the drivers and service pack 3.

I am using the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and need input on which of these 11 issues really are issues, and which I can skip and just install new once I upgrade.

Adobe issues -- I uninstalled it.

Toshiba Blue Tooth Stack for xp version 4.0 -- I downloaded and installed version 7.0, but have not uninstalled 4.0. It doesn't make sense to my feeble brain why I would have to uninstall 4.0 if I installed 7.0 unless it is because I downloaded the 7.0 instead of upgrading to it?

Here is a list of the rest:
MS .NET Framework 1.1 --I downloaded and installed a later version, so which version do I need to find?

Toshiba ConFigFree -- No clue what this is.

Intel ProSet/Wireless software -- ZeroCfgSvc Application -- No clue

Toshiba Utilities -- I have updated everything available from ms, so is this another one that I have to go find, and if so, what version?

To be uninstalled unless someone suggests otherwise:
Messenger
Realplayer
Realtek HD audio driver
Sonic Record now
Yahoo music engine

Thanks a bunch in advance for any help!

Answer:XP to windows 7 upgrade incompatibility issues caught by Upgrade Advis

1st, you can't upgrade from XP to Windows 7, you have to do a Clean Install which means boot the DVD and format the drive, so nothing you do to XP will have any effect.

Having said that, you can cheat

See here: Upgrade Install - XP to Windows 7

My recommendation would be to do an image backup of the XP system then do a Clean Install (with format), apply all updates then start restoring your data from the backup. All software will have to be reinstalled, it can't be copied from the backup to Win 7.

Hi there, I need some advice on my laptop upgrade. My laptop is a:

Toshiba Satellite P300D - 21K
Model No: PSPD0E - 00H003EN

I'm thinking of upgrading to 64 bit windows (lucky students can do this for 30!) to help speed up my laptop. I use some CAD applications so 64 bit should help with the speed of these apps. Question:

1) Is there any reasons anyone would advise me to not upgrade to 64 bit with my laptop?
2) I will need to upgrade my RAM to at least 4 gig for 64 Bit. I currently have 3 gig, so I guess I need to replace my 1 gig stick with a 2 gig stick? Or can I put a 4 gig stick in with my existing 2 gig stick?
3) Will upgrading my ram, and operating system void my warrenty?

Answer:Satellite P300D-21K: Windows 7 64bit Upgrade & RAM Upgrade Advice

hi rossbardon,

1. make sure that your application can use the features of a 64bit system otherwise there will be no performace boost in that application. except the expanded memory...
2. i would use always the same make and modell of ram because mixing is only good when drinking cocktails...
so 2x 2gb ram from a known manufacturer should be a good choice. why not 2x 4gb when using win7 with 64bit?
3. as far as i know you are allowed to change your ram without loosing your warranty... i think the warranty is hardware related.... to make sure if you allowed ask a servicepartner next to you.
you will have no support related to the win7 installation and software related issues.

hey upgrade to win7! due to this price and no danger (it's software) ahead i would do it.
make sure that the needed drivers are at hand before installing!

good luck and pls report what you have done.

I have got myself into a bit of a mess.

I installed my version of windows starter on my mom's PC which was previously running vista. To see if it improved the performance or if the laptop itself was rubbish. It did so I purchased an upgrade to windows home premium. When I enter the upgrade key it says I need the current key is invalid for upgrade and that I need to phone a number. Does this mean the software I brought is useless. I didn't want to buy a disc as I had read that using a upgrade key meant everything was kept. Is there anyway I can use the software I've brought. The computer recognises the key as an upgrade one.
Thanks.

You can not use the Windows Starter from your Notebook on your mother PC.
Doing so would be a invalid upgrade.

Hi everyone....

Current PC specs listed above ..... to get it out of the way I am a gamer......

This upgrade is to allow me to play some of the newer games such as The Witcher and also to enable me to utilize DX10 when I eventually upgrade to Vista.

RAM.....this is what I have found...I do not overclock and I am very happy with the matched pair of Corasir XMS 512MB 5400C4 running at 533 that I currently have so I figured the safe bet is in just jumping to a matched pair of 1MB sticks of the same.....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145015

Graphics card.....

I do have a budget and from the reviews I have read this card should carry me through the gaming world for at least the next year (hopefully 2) I like eVGA and I have nothing but good things to say about the eVGA 6800GS that I am currently using.

But if anyone has some input as to problems with the card listed below or if you know of another card that will perform just as well (or better) for around the same price I would like to hear about it.

I'm trying to find out the easiest way to go about upgrading from Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) to Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) and what issues I might run into.

I don't want to reinstall everything (Or anything if possible) so am looking for the easiest option to upgrade.

Anytime upgrade offers the upgrade at $139, a bit expensive.

I found a seller on ebay selling "Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Full Digital Download Key " for a lot less (He has about 1500 feedback at 100%)
My question is, can I use the key from this and enter it into the 'Enter an upgrade key' box during the Anytime Upgrade? Will I run into problems doing this?

Alternatively, I could get a copy of Ultimate from Digital River, burn it to a disk or thumb drive, use the key from the ebay seller above and try to do an 'upgrade' install over the top of my current Windows 7 Home Premium install (I don't know if this is even possible?)

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

Answer:Upgrade to Ultimate from Home Premium - Anytime Upgrade or reinstall?

The best way for any install is ALWAYS a clean install. Believe me you will have less problems and headaches than an upgrade. It would be worth your while to reinstall your software.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have other posts on my VISTA reinstall problems but I'll make it short to say I had to reinstall my OS. Knowing I had to reinstall Office, I also installed Works 9.0 that came with computer (Dell). Now, that is exactly what was installed before when I installed the Office 2007 just fine the first time (pre-reinstall of VISTA).

However, now when I go to install Office, it tells me it can't find a required upgrade product. On the box Works 9 is listed as an eligible product and that is what I have installed. It gives me an option to browse to the folder where it is installed but I've tried and don't quite know where to point it to find what it wants. Works seems to be in many folders.

Does anyone know what I can do? I don't have internet on that specific computer right now because of the VISTA reinstall issues (see other post) has created an issue with all the network drivers.

Answer:Can't install Office Upgrade...Why? I have listed upgrade product.

Have you started up your copy of Works to see if it functions?

I bought a Win 7 Professional upgrade disk at retail and want to use it to upgrade a new computer that has Win 7 Home Professional installed. The installation stopped and I was directed to use Windows Anytime Upgrade to do the job. Microsoft expects me to purchase a key in order to perform the upgrade. Can I ignore this and use the disk I have? If so, what's the procedure?

Welcome!

You should be able to use Anytime Upgrade to do that...just give it the product key on the Upgrade package.

You will not be able to do an in-place upgrade from the disc, to the best of my knowledge.

Can you upgrade from a Vista 32bit OEM to Windows 7 64bit upgrade kit?
I have been tempted to make the jump to windows 7 and I have looked at a few options.
At the moment I dual boot between XP and Vista (in vista partition is currently taken up by windows 7 64bit Beta).

1. Can I upgrade from vista 32 OEM to Windows 7 home/business/ultimate?
2. If I am allowed to upgrade from OEM will the new license be treated as an OEM or retail license? will I be able to pass it on when my hardware gets upgraded?
3. after the first time you upgrade can you go straight to install from the disk the 2nd time without having to install vista first?, bypass it all?
4. From what I understand biggest difference between the 3 ver is Business supports 2 cpu sockets, gives you emulated xp mode and some extra file sharing options, Ultimate just adds language pack and bit locker. So do I really need Home pro or move on up to business or ultimate for the bitlocker? do I even need bit locker?

Thanks

We have a Satellite Pro A300-2C4 (purchased 23/11/09) which came with Vista Business 32Bit installed but was downgraded (using disk provided) to Windows XP because of business network requirements.

When Windows 7 became available I purchased the Windows 7 upgrade DVD that Toshiba were offering so that if the Business decided to upgrade to the new operating system we could do so on this laptop.

This is what I have recently tried to do to discover it cannot be done as the DVD is for Win Vista Bus to Win 7 Pro upgrade. What is the best way to do the upgrade without having to purchase another upgrade disk. I do have a set of Recovery Discs for another Toshiba SatellitePro A300-2C4 which was purchased about 2 months before this one; these were created using the Toshiba Recovery software before any changes were made on the laprop. Would I be able to recover the system to its Windows Vista state using these discs and then use the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade DVD to do the upgarde?

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly received.

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro A300-2C4 'Windows 7 Professional Upgrade DVD' to upgrade

Hi TKG

Upgrading from WinXP to Win7 is not supported by Toshiba nor by Microsoft.
The only possible way to upgrade (go from 1 installation with some data to Win7 and keeping your settings and data) is from WinVista SP1 or later.

So regardless of how You look at it, You need to get XP out and either begin with WinVista factory installation + any 1 million updates that were released after this, OR
you can boot up from the Win7 media directly and install clean.
The second method saves a lot of time BUT have some negative side effects - namely not all drivers and utilities will be available in the final system if installed clean.
Some packages from WinVista works well in Win7 and are for that reason expected to be in the system during the update.
Hence, if You do a clean install, they will be missing.

However, they might not cause any trouble for You if they are not there, but that is not known until You're there and can see what You are missing.
Basic functionality should be expected though (WLAN, LAN, Sound, video....so on)

So, think about what You want to do and get busy with either recovering your unit with the WinVista set, updating, and then running the Toshiba Upgrade DVD, Win 7 upgrade and finally the Toshiba upgrade DVD again, OR just install Win7 clean + adding as much as possible / needed from the Toshiba Upgrade DVD.

Good luck!

I am planning to upgrade to WinXP Pro soon but I seem to have run into a problem. I plan on upgrading as opposed to full install because I can purchase WinXP Pro Upgrade from school for $25 (full version not available unfortunately). So, to make sure that none of my software or hardware will create an problem in the upgrade, I ran Microsoft XP Upgrade Advisor. The Upgrade Advisor is telling me that my version of Win98 is not supported for upgrade. The exact message is as follows:

Blocking Issues

Unsupported Operating System Version
The version of Windows running is not supported. Setup can only upgrade
official releases. Setup will now exit.(the last part of course being the text message I would presumably receive if I were to attempt an upgrade)

See attachment for full Upgrade Advisor report.

For one I would like to know why Upgrade Advisor is telling me that Win98 on my machine is not supported. Could it be because I originally loaded Win95 and upgraded to Win98?

Also, I would like opinions on wether or not this will actually prevent me from upgrading. Especially if you have run into this problem.

Thanks for any advice.

Answer:Windows XP Upgrade Advisor Says Win98 not supported for upgrade.

That would be my guess that it will not upgrade an upgrade. That's what I thought when I read "official releases" in the log file.

HELP!

I actuall have two problems. Firstly, I had been having the worst problems with my mouse which lead to me to thinking that I should reinstall win 2k with the possiblity that this would solve everything.

The mouse is sticking and it takes 2-3 clicks to get it activated again. Then when it is idle it seems to pull to the top or side or bottom of the page on its own. I have cleaned the ball, tried another mouse and uninstalled all the sp 3 upgrades I had done. It also happens when I go into WinMe which lead me to believe that it is not a win2k prob but thought I would give it a try anyway.

I installed the win2k cd and choose upgrade.

WELL.... it now says that:

"Setup cannot locate the Windows installation you want to upgrade. Contact your system administrator"

I cannot get back to windows 2k as it keeps trying to install upgrade. I am using Partition Magic Dual Boot and if I could get back to my drive c (the duel boot now makes drive f drive c) I could at least backup the important stuff.

I would appreciate any help to get out of this situation.

Looking forward to any and all replies.

Thanks in advance.

I recently obtained an upgrade for Vista Ultimate (I'm currently running Vista Home Premium), dated 2007. According to the upgrade chart, it's supposed to be perfectly fine to upgrade from Home Premium to Ultimate. However, I get past the product key dialog and the next one indicates that my system is not capable of taking an upgrade, but can perform a clean install. Strange.

I went on-line and ran into a blitz of different answers to this problem, but finally found something that might look like the reason:

Q. Could this problem be occuring because I have Vista Home Premium SP2 applied, and my Ultimate Anytime Upgrade only includes SP1?
A. Yes. you would need to uninstall the Windows Vista SP2 and then upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate.
Note: An upgrade always begins at the desktop. After uninstalling Windows Vista SP2, boot to the Windows Vista Home Premium desktop, then insert the Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade DVD disc in the DVD drive.

Is this right? Do I need to roll back SP2 in order to do the upgrade to Ultimate, then re-apply SP2 once it completes?
Also, side note question: I entered my product key and then the installation type dialog came up next after a few moments. Does this mean my product key passed the validation? I just want to be sure that my product will activate, as I bought this 2nd hand and was assured that it wasn't activated.

Answer:Ultimate Upgrade won't upgrade--only Clean Install option given

I am not going to answer your question, directly, but will say that a clean install is always better. Go with the clean install. You do not save time with an upgrade if you take into account the multitude of problems that may occur.
Back up your stuff, use Windows Easy Transfer and all you need to do is reinstall your software and you have the very best installatio, a clean install.
Enter your key after you have used the system for a few days, your software is all installed and you are satisfied, you have 30 days, which can be extended.
Clean Install From Upgrade Vista
Would you want your old car after being detailed or a brand new 2012 car, it works the same with the OS.
If you choose not to use my advice, you need to have SP1 with an SP1 install.

I'm about to buy a new laptop from Costco with Win 7 Home Premium. On my old (now smashed) laptop I have a Win 7 Ultimate install. Can I just use the Ultimate serial key to do the Anytime Upgrade on the new machine? I keep reading that I need to buy an "upgrade key."

Thanks

Answer:Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade with non-upgrade Ultimate license?

Hi,
You will need an upgrade key to initiate the ultimate download, but if you can manage to obtain an ultimate installation cd your serial should work, also if you use this winisoutils - Windows ISO Disc Image Utilities

you can change a windows install cd (if you have one) into a universal edition one, very handy.

to answer your question an upgrade key is not the same as a serial, the upgrade key is just to download the installation while the serial activates it, and a serial from one edition will not work with a different edition.

hope this helps

Since Windows 10 was announced that it will be free for Windows 7 and 8.1 users, that got me hyped up. There are many things I've found about Windows 10 that makes me want to have it such as DirectX 12 and Windows Aero (one of the reasons why I love Windows 7). I signed up to the Windows Insider Program and got a slow but interesting feel of the Windows 10 Preview on VMWare Player and now I'm ready for the real thing! I reserved the upgrade for Windows 10 when it comes on July 29th just to be ready.

Only problem, its August and I haven't been given a message that says Windows 10 is ready to install.

Now I've read that when Windows 10 was released on the day of its launch, that the Microsoft servers have been running at their limits since a lot of people have waited the day and received their Windows 10 upgrade. I've googled some forums as well to find any other problems associated with the Windows 10 upgrade but none of them matched my description. I have the Windows logo notification on the taskbar, it just hasn't told me that Windows 10 is ready to install.

Now I'm not saying that this is taking too long and I want Windows 10 now, I'm only just a little nervous about how long this keeps up. I really hope that this doesn't drag on all the way till next year when the free upgrade option has expired, but this isn't much of a concern. I've heard of a Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and I have downloaded it but I decided not to install Windows 10 this as I have school an... Read more

I installed Win 8 RC Build 8400 over Win 7 on my "experimental" spare laptop. I have seen web posts that you cannot directly upgrade Win 8 RC to Win 8 RTM, without going through some special steps and modifying one of the install files.

My question is is if I purchase WIN 8 Pro on Oct 26 will I be able to easily upgrade to it from my RC Build, preserving setting and apps, or will I have to basically do a clean install or some some "special steps" as in the RTM case to accomplish an upgrade of RC 8400? And by apps I am referring to my installed programs, like Office, Photoshop, Quicken, and tons of other programs I have installed.

Just looking ahead to how much work I might be facing later this month.......... If I cannot do an easy upgrade install of Win 8 Pro over my RC Build, maybe I will just bag it and forego Win 8 and go back and do a clean install of my Win 7 media. Hopefully I have better choices.

Answer:Looking Ahead to Upgrade... Can I Upgrade RC Build and Preserve Apps?

I think so, just click Upgrade on the installation process and everything will be intact. Anyway, if you upgrade to Windows 8 RTM and all apps from RC are gone (like what you get from a clean install), you can just sign in on your Windows Live account and re-download all your apps from "my apps" page in the Microsoft Store, though the settings that you had for RC won't get imported.

Hi Guys, Is there any way to upgrade from HDD to SSD in HP Pavillion n012tx? I also wanted to change the stock keyboard to a backlit keyboard. This changes will improve the longevity of my laptop for about a year or two I guess. Any help will be appreciated, I will be sad if the forum ignores though. Love for all.  Thanks Arghya

So I booted up One Noe 2010 this morning and got a pop up from it telling me to upgrade it. The button sent me to a legit MS website:
http://www.onenote.com/download/?MajorVer=14&Ver=14.0.7140&Display=1

I'm not really sure what's going on here. Is it offering to upgrade me for free to OneNote 2013? Why would MS do that?

Answer:One Note upgrade pop up? Free upgrade 2010-2013?

The standard version One Note 2013 is now free so if you have 2010 there is really no reason not to download and upgrade to One Note 2013. Anyone can download the full standard version of One Note 2013 by going to http://www.onenote.com/

The business version which adds Sharepoint support, Outlook/Exchange integration, etc is not free and is still available to purchase for enterprise customers but that doesn't really matter to most home users. I don't think most of enterprise features were in One Note 2010 anyway.

I'm seeing some similar issues on the forum, but not exactly my laptop model.  I have an Aspire 5755 and upgraded to Windows 10.  How do I find out what version of dolby I have as I did try to upgrade? I was getting this error:"The current Dolby audio driver version is 7.2.8000.17 and the software application expects driver version 7.2.7000.4.  Please install a valid driver and software application combination." Can anyone please lend some advice?  Thanks!! Wendy

Answer:Aspire 5755 dolby upgrade from windows 10 upgrade?

You don't have Dolby now, once you upgrade to Win10, it's gone. NM, go to acer support site in your region, download Realtek Audio Driver( Win 8/8.1).Go to Device manager, right click Realtek Audio under Sound, click properties and uninstall the driver.Extract the downloaded driver and install the Driver by running Setup file as admin.Install "DolbyHometheatre.msi" which is in the extracted folder.Hope that helps.

Hi,I just bought the v310-15ISK with model number: 80SY02MMSC. It has 6th gen i7, 8GB(4dim, 4 soldered) ram, amd r5 m430 2GB graphics, 120GB sata SSD in M.2 bay and 1TB hard drive.  I have some questions but to start with RAM. I have read other posts but none do finalize for me what can I do regarding RAM upgrade. Intel for my CPU says 32GB max, Lenovo says 12GB max(with 8GB module added) and some say that on kingston and crucial says 16 GB max. I'm confused. I had 16GB of ddr3 in my, now dead, laptop and i want to eventually reach the same for the sake of productivity applications like Photoshop, premiere, virtualisation ... And with all 3 different answers not clearing up for me. First, I find 4GB soldered dumb, but what can I do with this laptop beeing very good for it's price range compared to others here in my country. Then with 8GB stick added, I would have 12GB with Lenovo specifications beeing happy but having myself unsatisfied, wanting 16GB. Then "trying to obay crucial and kingston" to have 16GB max would mean to add 12GB module that doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned. Then Listening to Intel would mean adding a 16GB stick and ending up with 20GB. Not a problem but I might end up running into BIOS or other problems for my computer to ignore "too much ram". So what should I do? Now I'm perfectly happy with SSD that it came with but as it beeing in an M.2 slot, would that mean that I could replace it with M.2 PCIe SSD and would work faster or i... I have a home built ASUS A7N8X2 Deluxe MoBo with an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ CPU. I upgraded Win XP Pro to VISTA Ultimate with no problems other than upgrading a few drivers. It went smoothly. At the time I had 1 GB in one of 3 available slots. I attempted to add 2 GB more to occupy all 3 slots. This produced a reboot after POST as VISTA started. I rotated the the modules through all slots and finally realized that when I went beyond 2 GB it produced a reboot. During post it tests 3 GB and the BIOS displays 3 GB. I have 512MB of RAM on the video card. Any suggestions ?? I am running the latest BIOS and if I remove one GB the machine boots and runs great... ???? Ron

It's possible the CMOS isn't being updated with the hardware change.  With the SSD drive installed try clearing the CMOS.  The clearing process will erase the stored hardware configuration in the CMOS and then do a fresh inventory on the next reboot.

To clear the CMOS just unplug the power cord and press the power button for 60 seconds or longer.

Yesterday, I clean-installed Windows 8 Pro x86 on an old Dell Vostro 1400 laptop which had been running Windows 7 Ultimate, and it activated and ran fine, without even a single exclamation point in Device Manager. I applied the update necessary to make the Store offer 8.1 and proceeded to install it as I've done on a couple other machines. After downloading the thing, it errored out with:

Couldn't install Windows 8.1

Contact your PC manufacturer to see if you can upgrade the System BIOS

When I clicked the OK button, it then gave me the informative and grammar-challenged error box:

Something happened and the Windows 8.1 couldn't be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0xc1900104

Try again Cancel

Ever the optimist, I clicked Try again, and of course, it proceeded to download all over again from scratch, only to error out in the same way. I then downloaded all the Windows 8 updates, although just the one had been necessary on my other machines that successfully upgraded to 8.1, and tried again, only to get the same result.

Today, I've discovered the Windows 8.1 Compatibility Assistant, which avoids the lengthy download of the upgrade every time (Microsoft, maybe you should run it implicitly before downloading 3 GB of transient data), and it tells me:

I have a copy of MS Office Professional 2003 that has been installed and working fine for 2 years. Now (perhaps as a result of a Microsoft update ?) I am told that it is not genuine and will fail to work in 10 days. The invalidity is confirmed at http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/ It seems this is part of a bunch of product keys that purport to be one in a series of a volume licence but were really stolen.

Do I need to buy a full retail edtion of Office Professional 2007 or will an upgrade version be acceptable to the activation code ?

If you purchased this as a legal, retail version, then contact Microsoft about the false notification.

There's been some talk recently of the upgrade advisor not being available in the Store on various Windows 8.1 phones or if available it will state the upgrade is not available. This was my experience recently with an unlocked 640. At one point it was giving the upgrade but then it stopped giving it over the past week.

Note: some windows phones will not get the upgrade and this can be googled.

Anyway, I've noticed as of this morning the upgrade advisor is in the store and is now giving the upgrade. I can confirm it works with unlocked 640 and I've heard it works with lumia 930 (that it wasn't working with previously) so if you tried recently and your phone is upgradeable and UA did not offer the upgrade, you might want to try again now.

Hi All,   I am new to lenovo so please help me to decide, I have purchased the x230 with thinkpad 1X1 b/g/n which only connects maximum at 72mbps. I tried all the settings in the router and network card, (changing channel to 40Hz ). I am bit disppointed since this card says it can do 150mpbs but never reaches the maximum speed more than 27mbps whereas my wifes MBP reaches 70Mbps. I am really disappointed with the wifi performance and thought of returning the machine now.  Question1: Can i replace the wifi card myself? i am too scared to look inside the laptop if that voids my warranty whether thinkpad 1X1 have two antennas connecting to the wifi card? will that have any impact on my warranty? Question 2:is Intel 6250 a good option to buy? ( I know there is a whitelisting/blacklisting), i am simply asking this since i am not sure the wifi card will fit in with the number antenna wires that will be avilable to fix a dual band (2X2) card.  Will anyone be able to help me with this situation? Hi All,
I have a lot of programs and data so I recently upgraded my Windows XP SP3 setup to Windows Vista for Business with the intent of upgrading all the way up to Win 7 and Win 10, but I cannot get Windows Vista SP1 to upgrade.  I have tried many ways including
all of the fixits, through Windows update and through the stand alone.  I have also tried all of these steps, all to no avail:
You can't install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 R2: KB 2509997
You receive a "0x80246002" error code when you use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates: KB958056

Error message when you try to install updates from the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web site: "0x8024000B": KB958040
Error message when you try to upgrade Windows Vista to a more advanced version of Windows Vista: "Windows could not configure one or more system components To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation": KB 946078
In Windows Update, it says successful installation sometimes, but then just keeps offering the Vista SP1 update.  Please help!
Thanks very much.  I have my CBS.log and Windowsupdate.log and I can post, but don't see how to do that.   Barry

Hello together !

For your information:

Did a memory upgrade today at 2 Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 (1,9 GH, 256 MB DDR-RAM originally), both up to 1 GB, all fine and not problems.

Just wanted to end rumours about "only 512 MB all together" or even less.

If searching for it, remember to think of the specifications:

DDR-266 (PC2100)
DDR-SDRAM, SO-DIMM
200 PIN
CL 2.5

concerning RAM frequency, building form etc.

Recently upgraded from Windows 7Home to Pro. After a while I keep getting non genuine error page. MS support initially said it is Genuine and did a remote fix but error still returns. Next time MS support say its a known issue due to Malware that only their subscription service can remove. I have run a Malware check, using MS's own Malware checker and found 1 file called TrojanDropper win32/ Rotbrow.d. This has been removed. Norton have also done a deep clean and found nothing. Running scannow it tells me there are windows files it cannot repair but in the CBS.log there is no "Cannot repair" flagged up. Running MGADiag I get a list of tampered files. I have another machine with the Windows 7 Home on it and I've tried to replace the suspect files to no avail. If anyone can help I'd be obliged.

I purchased an upgrade key from Microsoft last year and used it on my Win 7 home premium 64 bit installation and upgraded it to Win 7 pro 64. Lately, my system has gotten squirrelly and I wanted to
do the "upgrade" (repair) install from my CD. The system will not allow me to do this. It says that
Windows 7 Pro cannot be upgraded with Windows 7 Home Premium.

So now I'm stuck unless there's a way to uninstall the pro upgrade and revert back to home premium.
Is there a registry key I can delete or something so that it will work? I don't want to lose all the neat programs I have installed.

Answer:Can't upgrade install after running anytime upgrade

You are going to have to do a few registry tweaks to fool the Windows Installer in thinking you have the previous version. Once you have done so you can continue doing the upgrade repair process however you must do it while the machine is currently booted. (From the Desktop).

This link provides a good step by step process which you may want to try.

Please note that I have not completed these steps so please proceed with caution.

EDIT: I had to attach the link into a text document since the URL could not be copied.

Hope This Helps,

All over the net it is suggested that before upgrading to Win 10 you can right click the MS icon and use "Check your upgrade status". Here is an example:http://www.zdnet.com/article/will-y...On neither of our Win 7 computers does it show this. In that position, below "Get Windows 10", it says instead "Reserve your free upgrade". Here is a screen capture:http://www45.zippyshare.com/v/eVMHK...Does anyone know what this is all about? The only thing I can imagine is that you have to first make the reservation. If so the logic escapes me because it would seem the right way round would be to check compatibility before making the reservation.I realise that you should go to your computer manufacturer but it seems odd that a facility so widely reported doesn't seem to exist.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

I have a Gigabyte Socket 775 motherboard with an AGP video card, and I want to upgrade to a system that has PCI express X 16 for a new video card. The thing is, I dont want to see my 2gb PC3200 dual channel kit go to waste because all the new motherboard are DDR2 only.

So is it too late to upgrade to 939? With the money saved without getting new memory for conroe boards or AM2, and the relativly inexpensive price for a 939 board, I can get a Athlon 64 X2 3800 for 939 which is much, much faster than my current cpu, and get PCIX16 video card support, all the things that I exactly want!

Answer:Budget upgrade: Upgrade to Core 2 motherboard, AM2 or 939?

Works For Me

Sounds like you have thought things out. If you want to save your DDR I (thats what it is called now) a socket 939 motherboard is the way to go. Still avaiable for the present, and socket 939 dual core processors are coming down in price. Just make sure your memory is compatiable with the new motherboard. You should be good for a while, although the future belongs to DDR II.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro with the i5 4th gen processor and 4gb of ram.  I am having issues using Sony Play Memories with my action cam. Saving and playing back videos is choppy and loading takes a LONG TIME! I was told when I purchased my Yoga 2 Pro at Best Buy that the memory could be upgraded to 8gb of ram. Several months after the purchase (now) I am discovering that this isn't possible!  I am very frustrated. Is there any way to upgrade the performance of my Yoga 2 Pro so that it will playback videos and games better? Please advise!  Thank you!

Answer:Ram Upgrade for Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro or other Performance Upgrade

You can't upgrade the ram, as it is soldered to the motherboard. What sort of videos are you watching? also are you running the laptop in performance mode in power manager? also what sort of video playback software are you using?

I am not sure if I have win 8.1 pro or win 8.1Says 8.1 pro in mscinfo but doesnt allow me to install win 8.1 pro features. Anyway that is not the issue I am writing about. Issue is , I had my laptop crashed 1 month after I installed Win 10. it required HD replacement by HP, at which stage I was told not to ugrade to win 10 as my laptop will not handle it. My Question is:free upgrade to wn 10 ends soon.what happens when my OS will no longer be supported by MSWhat is actually the problem that causes HP notebooks to crash? Is there a feature in win 10 that can be turned off to avoid causing the crash?Atleast we can keep up with the updates!! Need some help to understand what the actual issue is and if there has been some workaround found by now.SD

I was thinking about upgrading my CPU from the original Sandy Bridge i5-2320 to a faster Ivy Bridge i7-3770. But some threads here said that you cannot upgrade the BIOS from P02-A2 to the P03-A3, the latter of which supports Ivy Bridge. 1) Has anyone done this upgrade? or any upgrade to a faster processor (especially an Ivy Bridge)?2) Would the i7-3770 work with the current BIOS or do I need to upgrade (which seems to be impossible)? Any information would be great, thank you. Michael

Hey Folks!

Just bought Windows Vista this past weekend and upgraded my WinXP Pro. Since my copy of WinXP was installed as non-SP'd, my 250gb HD had to be split into two partitions. I decided to do a clean install from the upgrade CD since I was required to do a clean install anyways.

Long story short, when I went to activate, the product key wasn't valid because the one I have doesn't support a clean install.

The question I need answered is, does anyone know if there's a way to upgrade my copy of Vista from an upgrade copy to a full version?

Answer:Vista Home Premium Upgrade Upgrade

Run the Upgrade CD again, and Upgrade the Vista install. Atleast that is the trick others have done.

I'm posting this to see if any other users in similar circumstances have run across the problem I'm to describe and see if this is has happened to others...

I built a new machine after returning from a deployment to Afghanistan. General specs are:
680i eVGA motherboard
850W power supply
Core 2 Duo E6600
2 x 1GB memory
2 x Raptor 74GB in Raid 0 boot drive
4 x 320GB drives in Raid 5
Dual TV Tuner card
2 x DVD burners
I bought Media Center 2005 w/coupon to upgrade to Home Premium for that intended purpose.

After running the web-based system analyzer as well as the one on the Vista installation DVD, I was informed that my system (except for an older version of Symantec AntiVirus) was completely compatible with this upgrade.

This was the first bit of misinformation.

It turns out that as soon as I installed (via upgrade) Vista Home Premium, It was immediately apparent that this version of windows did not support dynamic hard drive arrays (e.g. Raid 5).

Although microsoft clearly states on its website and knowledge base that XP Home does not support dynamic arrays (Media Center is on top of XP Pro) It offers no indication anywhere that any of the Home versions of Vista are crippled in this respect.

So, I was forced into upgrading on the Anytime Upgrade site to Vista Ultimate ($159.00). This is done with a downloadable digital license (managed by several different independent third parties, a fact which is not given to the customer).

This upgrade went smoothly and ... Read more

Answer:Upgrade Hell with Windows Anytime Upgrade

Eek! That's another nail in the coffin for the anytime upgrade, IMO.

It sounds like you didn't have a whole lot of choice since you wanted to keep using your RAID5 array... but from what I've read, the EULA becomes more restrictive when you use the anytime upgrade. (I haven't followed up on that lately, so it might have been Vista FUD).
So...other than that, you liking it? Did you try out Dreamscene yet?

Hi All
Had Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit OEM-SLP on HP laptop and got the Get Windows 10 icon a few weeks ago. Reserved copy but as it didnt download i went to Microsoft and downloaded the Media Creation tool to upgrade that way. After install all worked ok but next day system locked up. After power cycle it then booted but no working trackpad. Also every subsequent boot would first require a power cycle as it locked up.
Got fed up and did a clean install of Windows 7 and machine is now at the same state as it was before the attempted upgrade with all updates installed (hundreds!). No Get Windows 10 icon has appeared however and on running the Get 10 troubleshooter it says I dont have a upgradeable version and Windows is not up to date despite repeatedly running Windows up date and it saying Windows is up to date and there are no further updates available.

Any ideas on how I can now attempt to upgrade?

Machine is HP 6735s dual core AMD 64 bit with 4GB RAM

Answer:10 upgrade failed, clean installed 7 but now cant upgrade again.

Go back to the Media Creation Tool and this time select the "Upgrade this PC now" option.

I had to restore my Horizon over the weekend after a fix for my Neatdesk scanner ruined my Windows 10 image (note to self and everyone, buy a scanner from another company, Neat's sofware was super fiddly and doesn't work with touch screens). Since then, every day Aura asks me to upgrade. I perform the upgrade. It goes through. Aura works fine. Next day the process repeats.  How do I get this to stop?

Answer:Aura asks me to upgrade every day even if I perform the upgrade

You can't fix it.  Lenovo has known about this problem for months and there is no fix yet.  See another thread in this forum.

I have some Win 7 upgrade dvds from Microsoft, previously used on pc's that have now been upgraded to Win 10.

Q: Can I use a Win 7 upgrade on an old Win XP unit ? Will it be refused as an already used key ?

What I am aiming to accomplish is after getting the XP machine upgraded & updated on Win 7, then using my 32bit Win10 iso, and see where I can go in the upgrade path.

Answer:re-use of Win7 upgrade dvds after Win10 upgrade

It might work.

You'd be violating the one Windows license per PC, though. The Win 7 license is supposed to be consumed in qualifying the free 10 upgrade. (It's not dead, as you'd be allowed to revert to 7 and activate that.)

Hi,
My system came with a R9 270 which I want to replace with a Sapphire Dual X R9 R280x.
That card needs a 6pin and an 8pin connection and the manufacturer's site say a 500W PSU is advised.
So, I'm concerned that I get a new PSU that fits my case, has the right connectors for all the 8700 components, and is say north of 600W.
Could anyone point me in the right direction.
My system info is......
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3601 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
RAM 24GB

Hello, Well first off, I will say that I am Comptia A+ certified and have also been a computer technician for the last 7 yrs. Having said that, I am looking to upgrade my SL500's RAM from 1GB to 3 GB (using a 2 GB DDR2 5300 667 Memory stick), so I am looking for the hardware manual before opening the laptop and following instructions step by step (I'm a risk averse person). However, the only manual available is SL500's Hw Maintenance Manual (URL: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43y6762_03.pdf) and this does not give instructions for RAM upgrade. Anyone know of a manual that I can use or does anyone have step by step instructions, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:SL500 Memory Upgrade Manual? How to upgrade RAM

The instructions are right in the notebook?s help file. Go to Windows Help and Support and click on Lenovo Access Help. Then check out the Index tab, and scroll down to Memory. There?s an item for ?replacing? memory there, giving step-by-step instructions with full-colour diagrams. Hope that helps!

I recently read that win10 may be required for continuing support on skylake processors or newer ones in the pipeline. I had not upgraded from 8.1 to 10 because I always wait for the dust to settle on a new OS. But now I am reconsidering based on the skylake issue. If I do a new cpu + motherboard (skylake) am I better off upgrading the existing cpu + motherboard before I upgrade parts or after ? Perhaps these new parts may cause win10 to see my upgraded computer as a "new pc" and not work due to potential licensing issues regardless of when I upgrade the hardware ?

I want to upgrade my wifes netbook to Home Edition. Its running Windows 7 Starter. I know how to use the Anytime Upgrade, but I have a Family Pack Windows 7 Home Edition Upgrade Retail box/disc. I have only used one of the upgrades of the family pack. Can I use another to upgrade the Starter netbook, or do i have to by an Anytime upgrade? Seems like i should be able to, but it also seems like the upgrade is meant to be from just xp or vista, not a lower end window 7 version. Also, how would i do it if i can. Can i simply change the product key, or do i have to insert a disk and run the whole upgrade. If i do have to insert disk and run the upgrade, will i have to do a clean install? Plus while typing this i just realized her netbook doesnt have an optical drive....so what about that too?

Just want to get these questions answered before i even bother attempting it. I would hate to think i could just change the product key and go about my business.....cause thats never the case, and everything always turns into a few hours of work...

thanks for the help, and i just registered here because im getting back into windows. im mainly a mac, but i think im both now. so hello.

Answer:Upgrade from starter using a Home edition upgrade

Welcome to the forum,

You can just use one of the upgrade keys you have in Anytime Upgrade, no need for the disk.

It will just unlock all the features, reboot once or twice and you're there.

At last after all the hassle of ordering today 18th April 07 i finally received my upgrade.
The pack has two discs one is the windows vista the other is a toshiba step by step upgrade dvd rom, also pack has a instruction manual in seven languages,

The discs themselves come in those cheap paper envelopes with the licence sticker on the back so watch you dont throw away the envelope if you put your now precious discs into a proper cd/dvd case.

The only thing i dont understand is the pack comes second class post in a cheap padded envelope posted in the uk.
How come post and admin fee is so high,oh well you live and learn and continue to be at the mercy of big corporations who can charge what they want,

good luck to anyone waiting for theirs.

DDR3 RAM (1.333 MHz)

RAM replacement isn?t very difficult procedure.
Take a look here:

SSD drives are compatible and you can use an common 2.5? SATA SSD drive.
There are different SSD drives on the market so you can choose the one of your choice.
Some are cheap but the performance is low. So recommend reading some articles and test about available SSD drives.

Want to upgrade Win 7 Home Premium 32bit to Pro 32bit so that, among other things, I can do backups to a network attached storage device. Anytime Upgrade tells me it is no longer available.
Home Premium was installed from a Reinstallation DVD for Dell PCs (I have a Dimension 5000) and I still have the DVD and product key from when I installed and registered it.
Is there still a way to upgrade (legally of course) or would I need to buy a Pro DVD (or download it) with a new product key and do a clean install?

Hi,

I have w7 pro 32 bit but need to take advantage of more memory so want to upgrade to ultimate 64 bit. I'm a student and have seen that I can get an upgrade to ultimate 64bit but it says that I cannot do this from w7 at all but can do it from vista business - as per below link

Windows 7 Ultimate: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit edition

Do you know this to be the case? I have a vista busines recovery disc but am unsure if this will actually install the vista os on my notebook (I have all data that I need backed up on a USB removable hdd so not bothered if it's a clean install). I really need to do this legitimately as the reason I need to upgrade is so that I can install and run virtual machines to do a microsoft course (quite ironic) and would get found out immediately if I didn't choose the correct way to do it.

Any advise would be great - Thanks in advance

FF 3 has been out for a few weeks now. Has anyone had any problems other than add-ons for older versions not being updated yet?

Seems to me I heard in a few places that the beta version had caused some problems, so I am curious as to how the full release has worked for people?

Are there any real security or functionality disadvantages to staying with the previous vesion (2.0.0.16)?

I also read elsewhere that 3 comes with the Google toolbar - are you given the option to decline that during the install? I sure as Hell don't want any Google software installed on my computer without my consent...

Answer:Firefox 3: To upgrade or not to upgrade, that is the question

I am using firefox 3 now. its a bit disappointing to know that it does not work with the real player plug-ins for downloading movie clips and music videos especially from the youtube site.

if it suites that you seldom download clips nor music videos then you can install firefox 3 and wait for realplayer to upgrade its plug-ins for compatiblity with firefox, otherwise, stick to version 2.0 until all is well fixed with the compatibility issue.

Answer:Satellite C55-A-1NU - RAM upgrade information and SSD upgrade

This upgrade with SSD is not supported by Toshiba so all you do is on your risk. Check please this forum. If I?m remembering well some people have already posted own experiences.
I think in most cases they have ordered such HDD/SSD caddy but disc drive was not recognized at all.

In my opinion you should not do such upgrade.

RAM
According notebook specification you can upgrade RAM up to 16 GB and at the bottom side under memory cover you should find two memory slots. How to upgrade RAM is described in user?s manuals. Check please page 72.

Compatible RAM modules for your notebook model are:

Hi... Am trying to install AN UPGRADE TO ULTIMATE on a 32 Bit System running Vista Premium & SP2. My brand new UPGRADE is REFUSING to UPGRADE IN PLACE!!! It says "Upgrade has been disabled. The upgrade cannot be started. To upgrade cancel the installation, then choose to upgrade to a version of Windows that is more recent than the version you are currently running". HUH??? This pc is 12 months old & running Windows 6 Home Premium. I am SURE I MADE NO MISTAKES, The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor has confirmed ULTIMATE for this pc. BOTH Anti-Virus Programs were disabled...etc. BECAUSE I could NOT INSTALL, I am NOT ELIGIBLE for the FREE 90 Day Support Feature... This is a BRAND NEW SOFTWARE PURCHASE & WAS EXPENSIVE... I HOPE SOMEONE AT WINDOWS CAN HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM... Thank-You p.s. {I do not know if the "Clean Install" works or not... ONLY THAT THE UPGRADE INSTALL WILL NOT... I NEED the UPGRADE INSTALLATION, & according to the package & all other data- MY PC IS ELIGIBLE TO THE UPGRADE... So I am very concerned- to say the least}. . .

Answer:New Vista ULTIMATE UPGRADE Will NOT UPGRADE

Hello goldenDragon1,
The best way to install any Windows is a clean install, i would backup all the bits i want to keep to another HDD or disk and do a clean install, there is less chance of encountering any errors. The reason you cant "upgrade" could be because the Ultimate disk, although a better version of Vista, is an older copy than the one it's trying to replace. Hope this helps. Good luck.
