I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This morning my HP desktop computer started acting up! The mouse is real jerky and jumps all over the place. I went into safe mode to run Kaspersky thinking I may have a virus (negative). When I hit restart to go into safe mode the PC turned off and when it boots up it always plays a little tune, it sounded like it was under water, real jerky just like the mouse, like gurgling.. I'm running win.XP.. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've been struggling with this issue from the begining. Basicaly the mouse pointer is jump when I try to make small movements and the problem ocurs both with the touchpad as well as a G602 external mouse. What could be causing this and how can I fix this? I've tried just about every setting available under the Windows Mouse, Touchpad settings and nothing is working. I did find the following post that seems to suggest a Realtek driver might be intefering with mouse movements. Has anyone else noticed this? With a 4K display I really need to be able to better control small movements of the mouse. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Tablet-and/Windows-10-and-jerky-mouse-Urgent-help-PLE...

Question: Jumpy scrolling

I recently reformatted / restored my computer, Its a Dell P4 2 gig, 640 Megs ram, Windows XP
Now, when I am scrolling down a page on the internet
for example (Use the Grab scroll bar on the right hand side of the screen) the text and pictures do not slide down smoothly they jump at maybe 3 to 5 lines at a time. It's very irratating.

I have 2 other pc's and they don't do this, They go down smoothly as if it's a continuos page rolling by a window. (I hope thats a good description) and I am pretty sure the Dell didn't do it before I had to reformat. So I'm sure it's something in the settings.

I have tried 3 things so far,

1. Went to control panel and adjusted my mouse wheel settings
No imporvement.

2. In Internet Explorer clicked on tools then Internet options then
the advanced tab clicked and unclicked "Use smooth scrolling"
No Improvement

:argue:
3. Called Dell Tech support, Very weak so to
speak. To sum it up.... I don't know sir

I hope one of you all knows a lil trick or something because this
is sure deterring from the enjoyment of our new PC

Thanks for any help or efforts.

Hello, first time posting.

My problem...loaded (had W2k) XP Pro......clean install..and re-format...
Have a Logitech wireless w/USB.....now in all apps the scroll function is really jumpy. I have changed setting on mouse from default (3 lines) to 1 to full page and is still the same. Also smooth scrolling in IE. There are no apparent hardware conflicts and no other hardware changes have been made. I have also used another mouse (same make) with same results. The touch pad also exhibits the same issue. I have 2 machines exactly the same and only one exibits this problems. I have been thru this and other forums to no avail.

Anyone have any suggestions.

TIA

Answer:Jumpy scrolling with XP pro in all apps

Don't know if this will help, but try uninstalling the mouse drivers and downloading the latest versions from Logitech and install those.

When I scroll on any webpage it does not scroll smoothly. It jerks like it's freezing up or going really slow. I don't know why it does this and it is very annoying....

It jerks and goes slow when watching videos on the internet, too. Does anyone know how I could fix this and why it does this? Your help will be much appreciated.....

Question: Scrolling is jerky

I recently downloaded Jing. I used it once, didn't like it and removed it. Since that time I've been troubled with an issue with the screen only when I scroll. Instead of it moving up or down smoothly, it gives the appearance of "refreshing" itself each time. It's unusual, hard on the eyes, and probably shouldn't do that! I've checked mouse settings, screen resolution and can't find a fix!

Can anyone help with my scrolling problem in Firefox 1.0.6? Please follow the steps below:

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

Otherwise, have you uninstalled and installed Firefox 1.0.7 to see if that fixes your problem.

Whenever we would boot our computer it would stop booting with the error message - Floppy Diskette seek failure - Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility. We don't have a floppy disk drive! So I would hit the F1 key. We kept doing this for quite awhile. Everything was working fine. Then one day when I hit the F1 key it didn't boot up. I got a blue screen telling me to shut computer down. Sometimes I could get on and other times I couldn't. My son decided to wipe the memory clean and start computer back to factory settings. We still get the same error message about the Floppy Diskette seek failure but it does continue boot up. But now whenever i'm on the internet while using the scroll bar, down or up arrow keys it scrolls, but it's a choppy movement!!If anyone can help me with this - I would appreciate it greatly! Thanks!KayHall

Answer:while on internet - scrolling is jumpy/choppy

When this has happened to me (couple of times), uninstalling my video drivers and reinstalling has taken care of it.

Is may be just me but scrolling up and down through posts in this forum seems slow and jerky compared to eight forums.

If I press the arrow keys to scroll up and down then it scrolls a bit, pauses for a split second and then carries on a bit more before pausing again. Is this just me or is it some design to make it work better on phones or something?

I tried different themes but it is the same.

Answer:Scrolling seems slow and jerky

It may be specific to your system. I don't have this problem. Try another browser.

Hi,

Had no idea where to post this question, it kind of lands in a grey area, but seeing as my O/S is XP, thought this would be the most suitable place to start.

I have just performed a clean install, and am in the process of adding, all my AV, and program software. I have however noticed, that when I scroll with my mouse wheel, down the page, it kind of ripples rather than smoothly scrolling.

Have I maybe set my screen up at the wrong resolution? I didn't install any monitor drivers during the install, cos hey, the monitor is working after all. Could something be missing though?

It's not a major issue, but I would like to iron out all these little niggles early on to keep things working tip top.
Please feel free to suggest if this post would be better served in a browser area of the forum, or anywhere else for that matter.

Thankyou.

Answer:Jerky browser scrolling.

Did you install the driver for your video card (and did you obtain it from the oem website)?

If anyone having a jerky/stuttering/lagging when scrolling a webpage in Firefox, here's a fix.

Type in "about:config" in Firefox (address bar) and enter general.smoothScroll under filter. Double click on general.smoothScroll to set it to true.

Or else just install add-on smoothwheel.

I don't understand why they didn't set it to smooth scrolling to true in the first place. First I thought Firefox 3.5.1 was buggy and lagging when tryng to scroll but found out that my IE8 scrolling was very smooth.

Please help. I tried this under security but maybe it should have been here. I've check out several boards and seen problems close to mine but the fixes don't work. This started a couple months ago about the time I upgraded Netscape but I can't swear that has anything to do with it. I've always used Netscape because it runs faster for me. When I scroll it is either very slow or it stops for a few seconds and then jerks to catch up. Typing does the same thing. I will type several words before they all of a sudden show up on the screen. All this is happens about half the time. I've noticed even when I play Hoyle card games it sometimes is jerkly. I am mostly looking around Ebay so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I absolutely never open emails with attachments or click on anything in an email. I use Norton Systemworks, Norton Firewall and I've recently used AdAware and CWShredder. I had a tech person "tune up" my computer, rid of temp. files, defragged, antivirus, etc. My computer is only 1 1/2 yrs. old. Please help me and keep in mind I know more about the Internet than I do the computer itself. This has taken all the joy out of being on line.

I'm noticing a weird annoyance when using the mousewheel to scroll in IE7. It jerks about 20 pixels every second for about 5 or 6 times. Using typical US (cheap but fits my needs) clickity clack kybd. Google Chrome, but does the same on MSEdge, Mozilla Firefox, and others. Also I'm using an Internet Security suit, AVG which is the only thing I can think might be the likely culprit but I've used AV only and it has done the same things.
So her is a more descriptive explanation of symptoms; Mouse wheel scrolling whether turning it fast or just a few cm at a time the page jumps up/down or not at all and suddenly jumps up/down drastically. When it doesn't seem to be responding I reflexively turn the wheel up and down cussing at it (not always but sometimes) lately. Other days it responds fluidly, friendly, as I want and need it to. There are times when weeks go by w/no problem, then out of nowhere it starts and continues for days. As if something is using page filing CPU, or ram or (maybe I'm out of my depth with that lingo) or maybe I just have dirty Electricity, Excuse me; "Dirty Power" oh yes there is, It really does exist, look it up! (Inconsistency's in Amperage, Voltage, and/or Frequency delivered to the user/device or interference between source and user/device) no that'e not a quote, I know a few things. Except how to solve this problem!!!!
Any PC "Gu Rooz" think they know please help.

Answer:Longtime prob Jumpy Screenn Scrolling

I had that happening every now and than, sometimes I it was just bad mouse with worn out pot at the wheel but also when internet was low and ping very high. In later case, when problem was really bad (like when tethering phone with 3G for internet access) even keys on KB were delayed.
Changing poll rates and wheel scroll to one line on mouse helped in some cases.

Answer:Chromebook scrolling jerky and hesitates

Hi croths,

So the step of logging into the Guest account is a great first step. The idea behind is that you wouldn't have any of your personal applications or settings loaded, and can isolate if the issue is related to the software (operating system or hardware). Considering it was better, but not perfect(?) the next step would be do a 'power wash' which will rebuild the OS and let you start over. It's quick and takes just a couple of minutes, but if you have personal data you want to save, you'll need to back that up first.

Here are steps to do a powerwash: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27685

Next step would be to do a full system recovery, you can download an OS onto a flashdrive and install it onto your Chromebook. Here are steps: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27637

Finally, if you're still having trouble I would suggest contacting support as it may be a hardware issue we need to address for you.
Hope this helps,Cory

I take it that all of your drivers are up to date. Getting drivers for XP x64 can be a bit of a nightmare due to lack of support for x64 XP. There is better support for 64bit OS in Vista and above.

Can you post your full specs. Download and run Speccy for me. Once the program has gathered the required information, go to the top of the Speccy window and do File>Publish Snapshot. Click Yes when prompted. Now copy and paste the URL address that it gives you to your next post.

When did you first notice the issue?

Ok i decided to get rid of my dell 1.8ghz 2gb ram 80gb hdd laptop and bought:

A hp compaq 2.0ghz core2duo, 3gb ram, 320gb hdd just to 'have the best' and now i wish i didnt 'downGrade'. Other specs inc: IE7, xp pro sp3.

Right issue is: Whereever there is a scrolling box or webpage, for instance if i google something then scroll from top to bottom it will be smooth till about half way then it will jerk and be delayed for a second or 2. Its not webpage specific it will happen even if i goto say internet options then advanced tab and scroll on that it will jerk. On the odd occasion it will be SO BAD it looks as if my vga card drivers are not installed. Also if i click something then start typing it will not pickup the first letters/numbers i type, this is also frustrating as if im typing a password it wont pick up the first digits and i have to start again. Also when highligting text it again wont highlight it all it will pause/stop for a second or 2 before highlighting what i want it to. To solve the issue with no luck ive tried the following:

Update my radeon hd 3200 drivers
reformat laptop (xp pro sp3)
Install all drivers possible
control panal>mouse>wheel>1 as following amount of lines per time
control panel>internet options>advanced>uncheck smooth scrolling
control panel>internet options>advanced>uncheck enable visual styles

Aswell as this, when I scroll, it is not smooth at all but like the cursor, it 'leaps'. So when I try scrolling down a page I've gotta be careful because it might just leap to the bottom! Thought I should also mention that dragging Windows is jumpy too.

I am almost certain that these three problems are all related to each other.

Before, my laptop was fine with none of the problems above. This was until error messages saying 'Delayed Write Failed' popped up out of the blue. Such errors I have found to be related to the hardrive not functioning correctly.

Optimisticly, I formated Drive C and put a fresh installation of Windows on to see if this would fix my problem. Surely it would?... Nope. How about I download the MouseWare driver that my laptop came with?... Still doesn't fix the problem.

I've run out of ideas and don't think a software update will fix my problem. I believe it's to do with my hardware (namely speaking, hard disks). I've got 2 hard disks. Coincidently, 'Delayed Write Failed' error messages shows up on both my hard disks.

Please reply, thankyou.

Answer:Tecra 9100: Jumpy cursor and scrolling not smooth.

Yes! I have finally distinguished what is causing my problems! After all the trouble I went through I have just discovered that a Video Card driver update is what fixed it! It's not perfect but atleast I can scroll alot more smoothly! :)

Answer:Jerky scrolling in windows and internet explorer

Sounds like you don't have the proper driver for the video adapter. You can obtain this from the manufacturer.

Hi everyone!

I've got a problem with Internet Explorer (who doesn't?). I have a wheel mouse and when I use it to go up and down a page, it used to scroll smooth as silk, but now the screen jerks and lags. Its really annoying. Only been doing it a couple of days. I just upgraded from 128mb to 256mb, and it still does it. This also happens in text documents.

Also, when I open new windows, or when pages load with new windows, they don't pop up anymore, they minimize to the bottom of the screen and I have to right click+maximize to bring it up. About one out of every 10 or so times, they won't come up at all. I can't figure out what is causing this at all.

The first problem might just be some setting with the mouse. I went into Control Panel/Mouse and played around with the number of lines (the default is 3) but it didn't help.

Any suggestions? Both of these problems seemed to have started at the exact same time (about 4 days ago).

I have an HP Pavilion 7960
256 RAM
1.3 ghz
Windows XP Pro

Thanks everyone

Sounds like you have adware/spyware in there somewhere.

First Delete Temp files, Cookies and offline content. To do this,

Close all browser windows (including minimized windows)
Run cwshredder

When it is finished Reboot your computer.

Download Adaware from here

Go here http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Make sure you select "Check for updates now" and get the latest reference files.

Run Adaware and hit the Scan now button, make sure Activate indepth scan is selected and then
hit next. After the scan has completed delete everything it finds.

Restart your computer.

Then Download Spybot search & destroy from here. Read the instructions while you're there.

Okay, so my computer is a compaq hp professional. And It's a hand me down but we did get a reboot cd.
A week ago, my computer got a HUGE malware infection and I had to reboot the whole computer. So it's nice and clean now.

But the problem is when I'm on IE or FF, the scrolling is veryveryvery jerky and I took off the smooth scrolling so it would be faster. I even upgraded it. So I'm running on IE7 and FF 3.
Even making the windows smaller and moving them across the screen is jerky.
Help for that, please.

Another thing is that the speakers will not work. And I thought it was just the speakers at first so I tried headphones but that didn't work either. I tried going to the Start -> Accessories -> Volume Control because there was no speaker icon.
And I got this message;
There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to the Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware.

And so I followed the directions but I couldn't find that Printers and Other Hardware folder.
So I looked it up online and some suggested to go to the Sounds, Audios, etc folder and make sure it's on speaker. (or something like that)
But in the Audio tab, everything was grayed out.
Please help on that too.

Answer:Jerky Scrolling, No sound from speakers or headphones.

After you reinstalled Windows, did you install video and sound drivers? It sounds like you didn't. The video driver will get rid of the jerky scrolling.Audio drivers will restore sound. Do you have any other cd's for the computer other than the one you mentioned? Your drivers may be on it. If you don't have cd you will have to download the drivers from HP.You can search for the drivers you need at HP support. If you have any problems finding the correct drivers, please post back and let us know the make and model of your computer. http://www.hp.com/#Support

Hey,

My computer crashed after a power outage and I had to replace the power supply (same specs as original, but with quieter fan).

I have the HP Pavilion a1630n ('rents don't trust me to build a computer ).

It has 2 gigabytes of RAM and even my very lacking 512 MB laptop doesn't have this issue. I would truly appreciate any help that could be given.

Answer:VERY (!) slow scrolling and jerky window movement.

What brand and spec is the power supply you put in?

Hi,My computer has been irritating me for months with laggy typing, when I close programs they do not disappear from the bottom bar quickly, when I try to play Spider Solitaire, the cards deal and move jerkily.I scan with NOD32 daily (NOD32 is updated daily). I used to run a paid up version of Counter Spy but have removed it because I don't like the program. I also run a paid up version of The Ultimate Trouble Shooter (like SiSoft Sandra) but can discern nothing in the process descriptions that looks out of place.I followed the Hijackthis routine to the letter and saved the log which I am posting. I didn't post it at the time as I have never used a forum before and got a little nervous about it all....*sigh*After I did the Grinler/Hijackthis routine, the computer ran well but now it has gone bad again so I have to do something to preserve my sanity.I did install Zone Alarm but have not used it for a couple of weeks as I never seem to be able to manage personal firewalls very well. While I was running Zone Alarm the computer was fine and now it is not so I guess that tells me something.Anyway, this is my HijackThis log file from a couple of weeks ago. Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

When I operate the scroll bar, instead of a smooth scroll down or up the page, the scrolling occurs in jerks, making the page appear to "ripple". I am using windows XP. In addition, when I watch DVDs the crarity is not so good. It has only just started happening. Any ideas?

Answer:Strange scrolling or wobbling scrolling

Does this happen to the entire screen or portions of the screen (like a horzontal line), or just with the scroll bars?

Question: Jumpy Video

Hi Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I could not find a relevant answer.I am running a Toshiba Satellite M305D, with a AMD Turion dual core 2GHZ and 4GB ram also running Vista 64bit home premium.Whenever I watch videos on my system mainly AVI's using VLC (have tried other programs), I get a lot of jumping on the picture which happens at random times, its a bit like the movie has went into slow motion. The sound also slows down when this happens too. This can happen anything from 1 second to 5/6 seconds.Although it does not happen every time I watch something, it has been happening more often recentlyHas anyone had similar issues and found away around this? I was wondering if the amount of space on the HDD could cause this although it also happens when I watch something straight from my external HDD. I just feel that my laptop should not be having these issues as I believe the spec is well above what is needed to enjoy videos without issues? Thanks in advance

Question: Jumpy mouse

My mouse pointer jumps all over the screen at random. It will work fine for a few seconds, and then jump, then work again, then jump a bunch, etc.

It is "Optical" Brand, or maybe "3D Optical." It didn't come with any drivers or software, and various Google searches have turned up nothing.

Is this a driver issue, and if so where can I find them for download? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

My computer has started to run slow, basically. Normal every day operation is slightly missing that edge it used to have and it sometimes takes a while to think about highlighting a file or actually typing what i just typed. Went to play Counter Strike: Source a few minutes ago, ping of 45 so not the internet connection problem, but it lagged like ****. It jumped periodically and was impossible to play, figured it just had to be a hardware problem. I think this happened gradually because i havent noticed a sharp increase in this, its just recently when i went to think about it, im not really sure what else i can say about my problem, any ideas?

Question: Jumpy Mouse

My mouse jumps around on my screen. I've uninstalled and reinstalled SP2 to no avail. I'm running XP Pro with a P4 3GHz and 2GB ram and over 130GB of free space, there are no bangs in device manager and it happens with either a ps2 or optical mouse
I use AVG free edition and AdAware/Spyware Blaster and have tried restore points but I can't figure it out. It just began about a month ago but is driving me crazy. I don't want to reinstall XP. Any Ideas.

[email protected]

Answer:Jumpy Mouse

Obviously you have tried a different mouse (yes)?

So maybe a repair of xp will sort it save you a complete install.

How to go about Repairing Windows XP
1. Put your Windows XP Install CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Reboot your computer.
3. Let your system boot off of the CD.
4. Let the Setup go through the first part of the Installation procedure.
5. When you come to the screen in which it says "Welcome to Setup." press Enter to Setup Windows XP.
6. Press F8 to agree to the End User License.
7. Let the Setup search your system for previous versions of Windows.
8. When the Setup is finished searching your system, select your Windows XP Installation and press the R key on your keyboard to start the Repair Procedure.

This is the part that might make you nervous . The Setup will delete all major system files and then replace them with new copies.

You will have to download all of the updates from Microsoft Windows Update again because it replaces the files.

Don't worry, your user data is still intact. Nothing has been lost, nothing has been deleted. Your data is safe, just the OS has been repaired, so relax.

There is nothing to worry about as long as you follow the steps to repairing Windows XP.

Question: Jumpy Cursor

Hi,
I've got a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. XP has been upgraded to windows 7. For several years, the cursor has had a mind of it's own-when I'm typing (I believe in any program) suddenly the cursor will jump to a new location. I've tried various fixes, and I just installed a new touch pad to no avail...

Before I upgraded the OS, I recall fixing the problem by tweaking a setting on the touchpad controls, but with W7 there is little control now for mouse/touchpad properties under Control Panel. The guy who upgraded the OS for me hasn't been any help.

I've tried the Dell driver updates in the past-no good. And now with the windows 7 upgrade, I don't know what drivers I would need anyway...Thanks!

Answer:Jumpy Cursor

Your laptop is not compatible with Windows 7 because there is not any drivers listed for your laptop via the Dell website for your model. This is way you may be having these problems since your machine might be using a generic driver from Microsoft.

Run the Windows 7 upgrade Advisor to see if your laptop is compatible with Windows 7

Question: jumpy sound

I just got a new external dvd rewriter. It plays some dvds fine. Two dvds have a very jumpy sound and/or jumpy image. I had played one of them on my old dvd drive without any problem. All the dvds I play were new when I bought them from a shop.
Do I have to tweak the speed or something? I have tried with power dvd (jumpy sound, no image), media classic player (image but jumpy sound) and vlan (no image, no sound).

Answer:jumpy sound

There could be something wrong with the DVD's causing the player to have trouble reading those particular DVD's, or it may be an issue with the connection. How is the drive connected, USB? If so, try disconnecting any other USB devices. Are you trying to do anything else on the PC while playing the DVD?

Question: Jumpy recording

I tried a Pinnacle PCTV HD pro stick on my x64Vita ultimate. It worked fine except for the recording. When I played it back it "lagged" actually it looked more like the video was jumping due to the saves to the HDD during the recording. My question is: Is this because of the USB tuner or a machine issue? If so do the PCIe cards not do this?
Thanks

Answer:Jumpy recording

Looking at your system specs I would expect you to be able to view it without any problems.

How up to date are your drivers, and do you get the computer to look for drivers or do you go to Nvidia?

I also notice you only have a single 2Gig stick of Ram, Is that because of the problem installing 64 Bit with too much Ram to start with?

Has it played back correctly in the past?

What program did you use for the recording?

I've made this website click here and some aspects of it are annoying me because I can't remedy the mistakes. If, from the home page, you click on any of the recipes, and from the recipe page click on the 'burger' icon of any other recipe on the left hand side, you'll notice that the tables I used to make each page change in shape. When I made each table for each page I used the same width settings and cell width settings etc, (dreamweaver) so why is the format for each page not constant and why do the heights of the bars sometimes change?Help please!Regards cowgirl66

Answer:My jumpy website

I noticed that about you site when I first saw it, but I didn't bother to look at the code to see whether you were using tables or not.I don't know if DW allows this, but when I need to make a table that is the same as the one on another page, I just copy and paste it from one page to the other in layout view. That way, I only need to get it right once.Generally, I would advise that you to be very conscientious with table settings - double check them all on a regular basis. I don't know much about how DW works, but my software gives all the parameters for evey cell, row and column. If DW applies any automatic settings, change them to their pixel values to fix each row and column. Don't make the table too complex; it can knock the formatting right out of left field if you're not careful.

Question: Jumpy Mouse Pad

Have one of those pad mouse right on the notebook. It gets so jumpy -- wants world domination and doesn't give a **bleep** what I think (or feel).  Please help. I can't get any of my work done. And buying a cordless mouse is not an option; those cramp up my hand :/ Cheers!

Answer:Jumpy Mouse Pad

@iheartmotogp Try setting the "delay" after you touch the mousepad: Settings > Devices > Mouse and touchpad > Under "To help prevent the cursor from accidentally moving while you type, turn off the taps or change the delay before taps work" >Set delay (in drop down menu) to Medium (or Long) delay  NextScroll down on the same page (Mouse and touchpad) >Click Additional mouse options If available, find and set Touch Sensitivity closer to "Heavy Touch" Setting the sensitivity to closer to Heavy Touch can help reduce "accidental" input if you brush your hand against the touchpad when you are typing. When you see a Post that helps, inspires, provides fresh insight,or teaches you something new, click the Thumbs Up on that Post.Fixed / Answered? I don't know what's causing the cursor to jump around. Usually by now, it would have jumped backwards, or forward, or even to another line a couple of times. It acts as though it's electrified.

'This' is a 2 and a half year old Dell Inspiron B130 lap top and XP home. Have run - AVG, Adaware, emptied files, etc. Thanks for any advice or help.

Question: Jumpy music

I don't know whether to classify this as Hardware or Software, but seems more softy orientated, so, my problem:

I'm listening to music and it's "Jumping" every half a second or so, I've noticed that the mouse seems to lag at the exact same time when the sound does, also, it accesses the HDD at the same time too, my first thoughts were buffering problems, but if I stop the song and start it again it's fine, but then if I minimize WinAmp it starts the lag again, the lag doesn't show up if I start playing the song when WinAmp is already minimized, but it begins on the next song for some reason.
It seems to start half-way through some songs too, but then it'll disappear as if it was normal HDD activity.

Answer:Jumpy music

Monitor this "spiking" in Task Manager and see if you can identify first IF the CPU spikes coincident with the problem and second what process is doing it.

Question: Jumpy menu's etc.

I just went through an issue with SVCHOST, I ran the MS fix all seemed Ok.  I have a new issue, it takes several clicks to get a pull down menu to stay.  Also when to playing a card game the cards act flaky, they will not drag well and often jump back to where they were.  Looking for ideas on where to look to find a fix.

Phil

Answer:Jumpy menu's etc.

I'd start with running the chkdsk /r command, followed by a defrag of the Windows partition.

If issue continues...I'd run the sfc /scannow command.

Question: Jumpy AVI file???

I edited a movie that I recorded on my camcorder using Adobe Premiere 3.0. Since I only plan to view it with another computer I do not need to burn a DVD. I exported the finished video to "movie" which created an AVI file. I put the file on my hard drive. It is a five minute video but the file is 1.2 gb. Too big for CD. I copied the file to a DVD-R.

The movie play fine using Media player when playing from hard drive.

When I try to play it from the DVD, the movie is very jumpy. The sound continues ok but the video continues to pause throughout the whole thing.

What is the problem? Do I always need to copy it to hard drive before play back or does it need to be saved in a different format?

Thanks.

Question: Jumpy mouse?

Hey, I just got finished building my new PC and I am having a issue with the mouse being extremelly jumpy. This happens when downloading files with utorrent or from websites, my old PC never did this and the new one is about 4x faster although the older PC had XP.

Specs:M2N-SLI Deluxe MB, 2gb G.Skill DDR2 RAM, AMD Athlon X2 3.2ghz dual-core, Geforce 8800GT 512mb, 600watt PSU, and a 250gb Seagate HDD.

The mouse just acts like it is lagging really bad, however whats strange is this only happens when browsing around on the desktop, and downloading/transfering files at the same time. In games this never happens the mouse works fine even with the games highest graphics settings(WOW, Company of Heroes, Crysis).

Question: Jumpy DVD picture

Recently my video codecs went a little haywire and I had to download and reinstall a whole new pack.  I did this with the k-lite mega codec pack, and now all my avis and mpegs are working again.  However, I noticed that now when I try to play dvds on my computer, the picture has this strange quality where any onscreen movement is jumpy, almost like its vibrating.  It's incredibly distracting and actually gives me a headache if i watch it too long.  Im assuming that it's related to the codecs reinstallation, because I previously had no problems with watching dvds.  I'm running a windows xp media center computer with an ATI Radeon x300/x550x/x1050 video card.  any advice would be much appreciated.

Answer:Jumpy DVD picture

No actual answer but - am curious as to how files might play in different players.  I hate Win media Player but do use AlShow, VLC and Media Player Classic - these suit almost all jobs - oh and even Irfanview too sometimes.Reason I bring this up is - I shoot some vids on a model RC plane and finish up with a big AVI file.  I usually use AlShow by default but was finding the image content either 'sticking' on first frame or playing a bit and then image freeze - with sound continuing.I thought this was a dud file but then tried it in media Player Classic and with relief it played OK - and so was importable into my vid editing software. So - this is a roundabout way of wondering how many players you may have tried, in case your default one is giving a problem, when another might be OK.

Just because a thread even remotely sounds like it has to do with a p2p doesn't mean it should automatically be closed. Case in point is the question about copying downloaded music. First of all the guy never even mentioned a p2p he just said he downloaded some music. Last I checked there are hundreds of sights where you can LEGALLY DOWNLOAD music. Secondly the question is asking about an wma to mp3 converter which has nothing to do with a p2p. The moderators need to be a little less jumpy about this p2p issue. They are hastily removing questions without even reading them to trully understand what there asking. This is going to cause problems for them in the long run so just try to be a little patient before striking people down

Hi, so I have an old Packard Bell monitor and recently the screen has been a little jumpy in that it's image moves up and down slightly. I have recently put in a tnt2 ultra video card and have the resolution set to the monitor's max. No other monitor options were changed though. The 'jumps' only happen once in a while, then nothing. I took off the desktop background image, no noticable change.

Is my monitor just old? or could it be the new resolution? Maybe the drivers for the tnt2 ultra could be updated, I'm only using the manufacturers driver not NVidea's. Could I use the newer Detonators instead?

here's a diagnostic:

Answer:monitor jumpy - too old?

I'd say it's your video card drivers - try updating them to some of the old Detonators, not the 30's or the 40's since those are optimized toward the GF3's and the GF4's, respectively. Try the 10's, or even the 20's. See if that fixes your problem.

You mentioned "new resolution" - which was the monitor's maximum, 1024x768. What resolution were you running it at before? 800x600? If so, then try reverting back to that resolution for like an hour to see if it still does it.

Question: jumpy monitor

Hi guys
My monitor when I turn on my computer is a little jumpy from side to side.. This is a relatively new problem.. I don't know what to do about it. Can anyone suggest something? Thanks.. Jeanne I'm running windows98 Se on a celeron 400.

Answer:jumpy monitor

I'm guessing that your monitor is on the "older" side and that could be the whole problem.

Check that your monitor cable is in good condition, no kinks or twists and that it is firmly connected to your video adapter plug.
Install the latest drivers for your video card.
Try changing the resolution settings for the monitor. Try both higher and lower, but don't make any big changes or you might end up with a blank screen.
If possible plug in the monitor on another system. If the problem goes away your video card could be the problem or the monitor is picking up interference at its usual location.
