[SOLVED] Windows Update Error Number 0x8024D007

Question: [SOLVED] Windows Update Error Number 0x8024D007

I am having problems connecting to Windows Update. Whenever I try to update the OS I get [Error number 0x8024D007] (See attached screenshot).

I have SP1 on my computer and I want to update to SP2 (I have heard there are still problems with SP3).

This computer was very infected and I received help on the Hijackthis Log Help forum. It is now "clean".

Here is the link to my thread on the HijackThis Log Help Forum:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/security-center/hijackthis-log-help/258992-uninstalling-malware-ie-hijacking.html#post1534002

OS: XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP1
IE: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp1.020828-1920

If someone could take a look at this I would appreciate it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: [SOLVED] Windows Update Error Number 0x8024D007

Hello nasirabd,

I suggest you try this workaround for Windows Update issues...

How to Repair the Windows Update Files.

1. Go Start > Run.
2. In the box type REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL > Enter.
3. A message saying, "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" will appear > OK.
4. Now it is necessary to repeat these steps for each of the following files commands:
Hit Enter after each line

REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL

Once finished; since the temporary folder of Windows Update may be corrupted, please carry out the following steps to rename the folder:

1. Go Start > Run > in the box type cmd > Enter.

Type the following command in the open panel.

net stop WuAuServ

(Please Note: the computer may need to be rebooted before the net stop command will work.)

2. Go Start > Run > type in the box %windir% > Enter.
3. In the opened folder, rename the folder ( by Right clicking) SoftwareDistribution to Sdold.
4. Go Start > Run > type in cmd > Enter. In the open command pane, please type:

net start WuAuServ

Once that?s done, Go Start > All Programs > Windows Updates and see if it will allow the downloading/installation of Windows Updates.

Post back with the results.

Kind Regards,

My windows update indicates that some files are missing.  I select reinstall and I get this error.  How do I correct this? -sp

Answer:X60s Windows update will not load Error number: 0x8024D007

Welcome to Lenovo's forums!   First, please check in c:\windows\system32\ and look for a file named WindowsUpdate.log right after you run Windows Update.  Scroll down to the bottom and see what the specific error is.   I have cleared odd Windows Update problems by doing the following:1:  rename c:\windows\system32\softwaredistribution to something else2.  delete c:\windows\system32\WindowsUpdate.log or move it somewhere else. Let us know what happens after you try this and what the specific error is.

Can someone help me? I have always had good luck in this forum with talented people helping me troubleshoot.

Microsoft's KDB has NOTHING that is helping me with the below window log file. I first noticed a change when my Window's Desktop Search application wasn't indexing anything...then my Outlook 2007 search wasn't indexing. I went to the Microsoft Update website to see if maybe I needed to install updates and then I get the error message. I checked BITS and it is running..RPC is running, however, Cryptographic Services is NOT running and I get this error message when I try to start it: Could not stat the Cryptographic Services service on Local Computer
Error 193: 0xc1. Also, the Windows Firewall is unable to be started as well. I get another error message when trying to start it.

I ran a virus definitions update along with a full system scan with Norton and nothing was found.

Any suggestions?? I've already unregistered and re registered a million dll files through cmd and that didn't help either. I don't have any other third party software installed to detect spyware or adaware. I'm running on Windows XP service pack 3

Here is some of the windows log file:

I have done four hours of research on how to fix this problem, but have yet to find a resolution... Also ,thanks in advance to whoever can help guide me into solving this.

I go to Windows Update (http://www.update.microsoft.com/wind....aspx?ln=en-us)
So, I click the button to install
image: http://www.zshare.net/image/60179527dd2818/
And everything seems to go okay... 2 screens flash by, stating:
Downloading: 100%
Installing: 100%
And then, after those, I get a page stating: The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.
image: http://www.zshare.net/image/6018019d903e34
And this is where I am stuck.
I do not have any Antivirus or firewalls. I don't have Spybot. I have the Automatic Updates and BITS services enabled. If there is anything more that you want to know, then feel free to ask.

Note: attached is my WindowsUpdate.log file. Hopefully this will help...

Again, thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm working on a friends computer and cannot get updates from Microsoft Windows Update site. The computer was infected with a virus, but was able to clean it up as far as I can tell. The machine is an eMachine T6450 running Windows XP Media Center. I was going to perform a system recovery using the Recovery Partition on the hard drive. Apparently when the manufacturer created the "Recovery Partition" some of the required files were not included and and require a Recovery Disc set to be used during the Recovery operation. The owner of the computer no longer has the Recovery CD set so I could not perform a successful System Recovery. I did however perform a repair on the Operating system by using my Windows XP Professional installation CD. Everything works great except for the errord code from Microsoft when attempting to download Windows Updates. The error message I receive is

"Problem with windows update -- error number 0x8007043B"

From what I've been able to find out the problem seems to related to not having a current version of Windows Update Manager installed or the service is not started. On the troubleshooting steps Microsoft instructs me to open up and verify that the Automatic Update Service is started. I checked the service and Automatic Updates is not currently started. I tried to start the service and I received te following error message:

"Error 1083

Sounds like you may be trying to run Windows Update from safe mode boot, which is not allowed.

Is this a correct assumption?

This error indicates one of two related things: that the Windows Update service is not running or the Windows Installer platform is broken/not installed/out of date.Try this:Click on the Start button, then click on Run...In the Run... box, type cmd and press Enter. This will launch the Windows Command Line Shell (looks like DOS)In the Command Shell window, type the following and press Enter:net stop wuauservThen type this and press Enter:net start wuauservTry updating again. If that fails, then try this:Go to the Add/Remove Programs control in the Control PanelIn the list of programs, see if there is an entry for Windows Installer 3.1 (you will need to check the box that says "Show Updates")If there is an entry, then uninstall Windows Installer 3.1Visit the Windows Installer download page and download the installer.Run the installer to reinstall Windows Installer 3.1Reboot, see whether that fixed the problem.

I'm having some problems updating my computer because I keep getting this error code 0x80072EFE from Windows Update. This never happened before because I just reformated my Windows XP and there seem to be some problems doing so because my pc can sometimes stop functioning altogether after going online and then using safe mode. I'm assume there's some malware or virus somewhere in my pc. Anyway of fixing this?

Answer:Windows Update Error number: 0x80072EFE

If you've only just reformatted XP and you suspect a virus already you might be better off reformatting again before you get too many of your programs back on there.Having said that, I don't know why you are assuming a virus. There are a lot of hits in Google if you use the string "0x80072EFE from Windows Update". Most seem to refer to connection issues and a Proxy Server. If you don't use one then it would be worth looking in IE > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings button and make sure "use a proxy server....etc" is unticked. How to know you are getting old 6:You can't remember what it is that you have forgotten.

Hello All

I am having trouble receiving windows updates, as I am getting this error message: Error number: 0x800704DD

I read this thread prior to posting:
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=187811

I also followed the microsoft suggestion on this page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968001

I initially found out that I did not have permission to edit the registry. I got that fixed, which revealed that I had the keys and keys values that were requested from the link above. I have checked several links and forums from other sites as well.

The only thing I didnt tried fully was to rename my Notify folder to "Notify_Disabled" and rename my Notify_Disabled to "Notify". I say "fully" because when I did make the changes, my newly "Notify" folder (previously the Notify_Disabled folder, which did not have anything in it) received a subfolder name "SensLogn" which is the same folder that must be edited as suggested in the microsoft link above. At this stage, I did not rename the Original Notify folder to "Notify_Disabled" in fear of having to make all the additional folders over, including key values that are inside of those folders. Hope this make sense.

I even called the free Microsoft help hotline, which resulted in about 2 hours of trouble shooting, but no fix.

Answer:Can't access windows update: Error number: 0x800704DD

Do you have automatic updates enabled as suggested in the 'workaround'?

It may not relate to this error, but, are all the relevant microsoft websites listed under trusted zones in 'internet options'?

Hi Majorgeeks,
Post malware infection and successful cleaning, I'm in the process of protecting my computer using you 'How to Protect you computer from Malware' recommendations and I find that I am falling at the first hurdle. I can't install any Windows updates and I keep on getting the above error message. I trouble shot for the solution and it looks as if I need to go into the system 32 to check it out. I don't really feel experienced enough, so I'm wondering if you can help me out in any way possible.
Thanks,

Answer:Windows Update Fail [Error number: 0x80070424]

This is really something you should work in the Software Forum if your PC has already had all malware removed.

However try the below:

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below command at the command prompt and then hit the enter key.

%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL

Now look for the C:\MGlogs.zip file and attach it no matter what happened while doing the above.

If that does not help, try disabling protection software while updating. And if that still does not work, I suggest that you continue in the Software Forum.

My PC trys to update to the newer version of windws 10 number 1607 from number 1511 which was the free version of the upgrade to Winodws 10. The PC crashes and then reinstalls the old version of Windows 10 number 1511 apparently becuase the HP driver doesn't support Windows 10.  I looked on this website and there is no driver for this PC for Windows 10. Does HP intend to issue a driver so this PC can be updated to Windows 10 number 1607? If not Microsoft says they are preparing drivers for the unsupported PCs. Has anyone had any experience with using the Microsoft drivers to replace the HP driver? Was the subsitution sucessful?

This computer is running XP Home, SP2, is seldom used (except as a backup system) has no other problems, has all the latest updates, has no viruses, and no spyware. Office Updates works fine. I have search the web for this error number and have not been able to find a solution. Tech support at Microsoft Updates has suggested a number of things including checking services.msc to ensure Automatic Updates and Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) are set to automatic, running the following commands: REGSVR32 MSXML3.DLL, REGSVR32 MSXML2.DLL, REGSVR32 MSXML.DLL, installing MSXML 3.0 SP5, cleaning temp files, deleting all cookies, and objects from IE.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Microsoft Update Error number: 0x800700C1

fyi...

Microsoft Update Tech Support suggested the following which fixed the problem...

Suggestion 1 Re-register the System components.

1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter.

2. Run the following commands:

regsvr32 regwizc.dll
Regsvr32 licdll.dll

We will receive "succeeded" message if a component is registered successfully.

After that, please try to access the Windows Update site again. If the issue persists, let us try to use the System File Checker (SFC) to scan system components. Please be reassured that we can try this step safely. System File Checker checks for damaged or replaced corrupt system files. Thank you for your understanding and efforts. For your convenience, I have re-attached the steps to perform the SFC

Suggestion 2 Use the System File Checker (SFC) to scan system components.

1. Insert the Windows XP installation CD into the CD-ROM; Click Exit if the auto-menu pops up.

2. Click Start, click Run, type: cmd and press Enter.

3. Input the following commands and press Enter after each line.

sfc /purgecache

sfc /scannow

Note: There is a SPACE between "SFC" and "/Scannow", "/Purgecache", and this command will take several minutes to complete and may require access to the Windows installation source files.

After trying above steps, let?s try to access the Windows Update site again.

Recently upgraded to Vista from XP. Now cannot run Windows Update manually. Also, I haven't seen the automatic update icon in the taskbar so don't think I am getting the automatic updates either. Nonetheless, Security Center says I'm OK.
I have tried two of the fixes mentioned on the Microsoft site. The first was to delete the cache in Internet Explorer. This did nothing. The second was to change the permissions in the registry. However, when I came to the final step in that process, Vista would not allow me to change the registry.
Most of the solutions I have encountered seem to reference XP rather than vista. I would appreciate help with this problem.

Hi,

Posted this another Windows forum but was advise to post here.

Here's my problem:
I know this has been posted several times but every time I try and update my OS through Microsoft Update I get the error - Error number: 0x80190193.
All posts point to busy servers.  Fair enough but everyday all day?
My PC is part of a domain and I have always been able to update my OS as and when I see fit.  We do run WUS internally but that only pushes out the most important updates.

Is there anything I can do?

Also, my PC is part of a domain in a corporate network.  Colleagues can update their OS without issues.

Thanks,

A year ago, I tried Windows 10 on my SONY Laptop, but had to uninstall it, and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium.
Thereafter, I was notified to install an optional update for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. Ever since then, I go through days of getting a green video window for Facebook and sometimes youtube videos (but 90% with Facebook videos).
Contacted Facebook but they are useless. Downloaded Flash player many different times, but no luck. Sometimes I can disable hardware acceleration and or check it, however, other times I can not see if hardware acceleration is enabled for HTML5 videos. I have

Hello! Please excuse my bad English! I've bought a new SL500 last week whithout any  operating system installed. I installed Windows XP Prof, thanks for the help here solving the problem with the SATA-compatibilty-mode in the BIOS! Now I tried to actualize the BIOS. There appears a "loop" after confirming the start-button for  Update ThinkPad BIOS: The "ThinkPad BIOS Flash Update Utility"-Window disappears for about a second and appears again whith its start-window. For Hours I could repeat this procedure ;-) I installed the BIOS after preparing a CD-ROM whith the iso.image from lenovo-homepage, that was working. Trying the XP-BIOS-updater again, the message appears: BIOS-image-file is as BIOS ROM ...  For what can it be useful updating the model number? Best wishes!

Answer:was not able to update SL500 BIOS from a running Windows XP; Update model number ???

Hello Lenovo2009, I would  recommend, not to update bios, when your machine runs satisfactionally now. Also there seem to be some problems with the fan with bios 1.18. If you want to update, then I would recommend to use the cd procedure and not to update through windows. You might want to take a look here.  Message Edited by Agotthelf on 26-01-2009 02:28 PM

Sorry but I had to re-post this problem as the title was incorrect.

Socket error 10065 from Outlook Express
Hi, for the last few days we have been receiving "The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Joint French', Server: 'pop.orange.fr', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10065, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E" from Outlook Express.

I have :
- run a full Norton system scan - no viruses found
- run a disc cleanup via Start programs, accessories, system tools, disc cleanup
- run a Norton registry cleanup - same problem
- tried uninstalling Outlook and then found a posting that says you cant physically uninstall and reinstall outlook

Google chrome is working ok and I can get to the messages via Chrome but am having no luck getting outlook to send and receive mail.

Internet search implies it may be a broekn registry entry but is there a recommended registry cleanup took and/or can you suggest anything else I can try?

Much appreciated

Answer:Solved: Socket Error: 10065, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Just for completeness - I found the cause of the error was nothing to do with ports. We use an application called Peerblock which prevent our PC sending information to third parties (telecoms companies, educations institutions, etc.) This uses lists from www.iblocklist.com and one list in particular (the bogon list) would seem to contain an IP address which conflicts with a combination of Orange.fr and Outlook express requirements and so prevents Outlook working.

I have been trying to produce an invoice template which will update the invoice number each time it is opened:-
ie.

Open Invoice template numbered 100.
Enter details
save as (unders Customers name)
Close template (without saving)
Reopen template for new invoice with the number updated to 101.

I found the following post which is what I am looking for

http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/929704-excel-2007-auto-invoice-numbering.html

but am unable to get Keebellah's solution to work mainly due to the fact I have not enough experience in VBA.

His solution is exactly what I require.

Could someone supply VBA code to solve my problem and explain in simple terms how to input it.

Keebellah has made his solution" read only" to stop anyone changing the layout and this seems an excellent idea.

Is it possible to also supply VBA to carry this out which I can use when I have made all my ammendments.

I have attached a copy of my workbook and as you can see I have included an option to update dates through a pop up calendar.

The invoice cell is M12

I've been using the Microsoft Update Catalog site for years to download updates and have them stored on my external HDD. When I received notification of new updates available for August, I went to the catalog site and got "Error number: 8DDD0020" Cannot display the page. The normal page displays for a second or two, then goes to the error page. Get the same thing if I click the FAQ or Help and Support links on the error page.

EDIT: I reinstalled IE8.... No joy. Also went the regular Windows Update site and installed the Malicious software tool. Process went normal.

Googled the error and I'm not the only one who has had it, but found no resolution. Here are my system specs:

I get this error when I try to save .dxf files in Inkscape:

Fatal Python error: Py_Initialize: can't initialize sys standard streams

Then it seems to recover but it doesn't really recover. It saves the files and then DraftSite won't open them. Here is what the thing says when it tried to fix the problem.

File "D:\Program Files (x86)\Inkscape\python\Lib\encodings\__init__.py", line 123

All of this is so I can take any file type, convert it to bitmap with Inkscape, run a trace, convert it to .dfx and send it to a plasma cam, but sometimes I will need to send them to DraftSite for further manipulation. I think everything will work if I can resolve the saving problem.

I am open to hear any suggestions on how to do this more efficiently. All this is to get it to a plasma cutter.

Answer:Solved: Inkscape gives runtime error (no number but its below)

Hi, I have looked at all the different discussion threads and tried almost every single suggestion made but still have'nt had any luck so far.
I can receive email but can't send any. What triggered this error is that, I recently moved from London to New York and I am now using a different ISP to connect to the internet. But my old setting should work (since it has worked in the past when I logged in from hotel or other locations using different ISPs.)

I have tried changing the port numbers etc, but I keep getting back this error message.

"The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Test', Account: 'O2 Email', Server: 'smtp.o2.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

You must go to the website of the new email provider to get the correct settings. Not just port numbers but all other settings as well.

Hi,

I was referred from the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help section by Ried and I have no malware problems that he could find. I am getting the below problems and I have tried restore from safemode without success. I uninstall IE8 and went back to IE7 but I got the same problem so I install IE8 again from safemode as that is the only way to get anything done on the computer with this delayed process.

1) The computer is taking forever to populate the desktop and do anything.

2) I am getting this error message when I try to run windows update "Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continue: Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended) or Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem. Then there is the option to continue with the (recommended) option. When I select continue it appears to be registering and downloading files and goes to 100% and after a delayed process revert back to the beginning of the windows update page with Express or Custom update and back to the same error above. Everything was working ok untill about two weeks back.

I also tried to reinstall Office that I uninstalled thinking that those files were corrupt and I am getting an error and that would not install either.

This is the error from trying to update in safemode 0x8007043c.

I am running Windows XP Pro

Thanks,

Xxmen

I am getting error Ox800Fo81F when I attempt to install any Windows 7 update (for example, KB2961072-x64). There is some information on this error on Microsoft Support, but the advice given would seem to apply to Windows 8 users only (as scanhealth and restorehealth are not available with Windows 7 as operations when using a command: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image).
This occurs in either of these instances:
when employing the standard Windows Update program, or when I manually download and run a particular update's Standalone Package. (Windows Update can identify the necessary updates, but none of them installs successfully after download.)
I have already tried restoring my computer using a current system image and the system restore disk, but I continue to have the same problem. June 11 was the last time an update installed successfully (I do not have any restore points saved from before the start of this problem). I have installed the Hotfix for Windows (KB947821), but all Windows software updates still fail to install (the Hotfix itself did install); I have also run the WindowsUpdateDiagnosis Troubleshooting Pack; also, Microsoft Fixit; I have also fully reset Windows Update.
I have not tried to reinstall Windows 7, because I do not have a Windows installation disk. Might the problem be alleviated if I purchase an installation disk for Windows 8 to upgrade Windows? My computer is new enough to be running on Windows 8.
Is there any other solution?

HI, When ever I try to view the windows update I get the error 0x800700B. I have tried about 20 sites and none of the solutions have helped me. Please help.
I am running windows XP Home edition SP2. I also noticed that many download links take me to winantiviruspro.net, a page that says: <Website> is invalid with a search bar underneath or a page that say Internet Explorer Cannot Display this Page.
EDIT: When I try to download something, I click on the download link and the link fails as if it is an incorrect URL. All Downloads from microsoft won't work and downloads such as SUPERantispyware don't work either. I am able to install SOME programs through alternative websites. I am unsure, but I think that my problem is malware/adware that is blocking websites with download, windowsupdate, update, etc. in the place of www. I have tried everthing and I am desperate for help.
New Knowledge: I looked around and figured out that the last windows update was able to install on the 12th of December, the same day that Service Pack 2 was installed by windows update. Which lead me into thinking that Service Pack 2 is the reason for Windows update not being able to work. Internet Explorer 7 was also installed with SP2 and I think that Windows Update may not be able to run in IE7.
However that does not solve my question:
How do I fix error 0x800700B and download link errors.

Answer:Solved: Windows Update error 0x800700B

I posted HJT log on malware removal and the removal of a browser hijacker solved my problem! thanks anyways and good luck to those who are suffering from the same issue. Bye.

Hi everyone. Perhaps someone here can help me.

I'm trying to do some windows updates. I get this error code "0x8ddd0004"

It's annoying. Ive tried doing everything in the support forums.

Ive renamed folders. reinstalled adobe. installed update software. stopping and restarting automatic updates service and background intelligent transfer service. re-registering. entering command prompts. i'm on as administrator. i've made sure my firewall wasn't blocking. Ive made sure my trusted sites had the proper sites. my security level isnt too high. i'm all out of ideas. restarting my comp doesn't work. i seem to be missing my wuwebcontrol class when i check in add ons but i found the file in my system32 folder. i'm not sure if that makes a difference.

ANY help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much!

I'm having problems with Windows Update. I have it set for automatic but it has not updated since January. I keep getting the following Windows Update error 0x80070057. I have an HP Pavilion laptop running Windows 7 64bit with SP1. I tried the Fix It utility and got server problem errors and the above error. This site and one other I looked at suggested to someone else that they go into Start, type regedit in the Search bar. Then open regedit and navigate to HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\ Windows\WindowsUpdate and remove any and all values with 0x80070057. Tried that and I have no WindowsUpdate in Windows. My navigation is to HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows.

Obviously, I'm missing a rather important file in my registry. Any suggestions how to restore it? I have no restore points in my system restore, so can't do that.

Hello lovely people

So, I'm having the brilliant Windows Update Error 80246008, which basically means my updates fail to install.

I have ran through the Windows Help and Support, which tells me 'To change or restart the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)'. However, when I look in the 'Services' section, I have found that BITS does not appear.

After realising this, I opened up the command prompt and ran the System File Checker tool to 'troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files', however it gets to 79% and then reads;

"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

I am now stumped

Any help is hugely appreciated, I have 70 updates waiting to install

Greetings!
As you can see in the title Windows doesn't provide me with updates due to this error. I looked it up in the Microsoft site and it says that it's because time or time zone is configured incorrectly. I tried the Windows Update troubleshooter program, I ran it several times (restarted PC several times) and it said that the problems are fixed, but it still displays the error.
It also displays that I have never installed updates, which is false!

I tried to synchronize my time with an internet time server, but failed which is odd.

My time zone was originally UTC, but since I'm in Bulgaria my time zone has to be UTC +2. And I think since that change I cannot install updates even though I changed it back to UTC. I've thought about System Restore but I don't have any points that I can revert back to.
If you have any suggestions, please tell me!
I am still new to Windows 8.1 and I apologise if this has been answered already.

My windows update says it has 55 important updates but when I attempt to update it says that the updates were not installed and gives the error code 80246008.

The windows help and support tells me I need to change or restart the background intelligent transfer service (BITS) but it isn't in the list of services that it directs me to.

The microsoft fixit and automated troubleshooter fixes have both failed to help and I'm a bit worried this is a symptom of a real underlying problem.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Cheers

I have spent several hours to manually run windows update on a laptop running windows 7 Professional since the automatic update does not work and keep receiving error message 80072EE2.
I disabled the anti virus software and even uninstalled the network card from the device manager, rebooted the system and after the sytem detected the device and reinstalled the drivers, log on as administrator but still could not get the updates.

Answer:Solved: windows update error 80072EE2

That normally happens when your firewall blocks windows update but can on occasion be malware related

first thing to try is
Run the fixit on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 Run it in agressive mode & let us know if Windows update works then

I have a computer that just won't update Windows at all. Windows 7 32-bit ,Toshiba Satellite L505 laptop.

I've tried every single thing I can think of and every suggestion I've come across and nothing has worked. I've done chkdsk, memory tests, sfc /scannow, resetting the SoftwareDistribution folder, every relevant Windows Fix-it tool. I even formatted the hard drive and did a clean install and yet the problem persists.

I should mention, sfc /scannow does not run properly. I get the "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation" error.

Also, I get regular IE and Windows Explorer crashes and occasional freezes. Could this be due to the lack of updates? That's what I suspect but I'm not sure. I know there are many many updates that the computer needs.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows Update error 80070002

Your best option in that case is to run the CHKDSK and SFC in offline mode from a Recovery Environment boot.

Reboot the computer, and tap the F8 key until you get the advanced boot menu up - one option should be 'Repair your computer'. Pick that one.

Log into your normal account.
You'll get a set of options - pick the Command Prompt one.
At the command prompt, type DIR C:\
- if we're lucky this will bring up a listing of your normal C: drive contents, including the Program Files folder(s) and the Windows folder.
If not, try D:\ or E:\ (etc. until you get the right letter)
then type the following command

CHKDSK <drive>: /R

and wait for it to complete - it could take a few hours, depending on the size of the drive.

Once complete, type

sfc /scannow /OFFBOOTDIR=<drive>:\ /OFFWINDIR=<drive>:\Windows

where <drive> is the letter you found above.

Wait for the command to complete. (make a note of the response!).

Once it has, type EXIT and the pick the option to reboot.

A few things to get away before I start this post:
I have read the sticky post by Geekgirl and I know I might not get an answer.
Yes, I know that Windows 7 is a beta. So don't give a bunch of flak about it being a beta and there are bugs.

So I had a friend install Windows 7 on my laptop and dual boot it. It worked perfect until about a week ago when I tried to update. Now, every time I try to update, I get a 80070002 error.

I asked my friend if he knew what was up with it and he said he had intalled the Windows 7 watermark patch and Timernuke.

I found and followed instructions to remove both of those and then followed the instructions on TechNet to fix the error on Vista.

The problem still exists. I am mainly just posting this to see if anybody else has this problem and would like to work together to find the solution.

Thank you.

I cannot download this particular Windows update-Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330). I didn't figure that out until today when I went to reset Windows updates from auto to manual. When I looked at the log this file shows failed over and over from way back in 4/28/09until now.

So, is this file important? Should it be downloaded to my PC? If the answer is no then disregard the rest of this post. But if the answer is yes any help would be appreciated.
If yes, then I need some help. I am using the directions at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-80070002 to fix error 8007002.

But I get stuck at the double click on DataStore folder. I cannot gain access. I am using administrator.
Adobe can't read it. The message I get is-"Adobe Reader could not open DataStore.edb because it
is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged".

When I ran Filecure it indicated "no problems". So I am at a loss as to how to access the files so I can
delete them (per directions at link provided).

Answer:Solved: Windows Update Error 8007002-Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330)

Ok, a lot of you have looked at this question, but nobody has responded. Is it because it's not an important update? Or is it too old a problem (going back to 4/09)? Or some other reason? I can't believe no one knows the answer to my question since I've asked much more obscure questions in the past and gotten answers. So PLEASE, if someone could clarify what I'm dealing with I would offer techie sainthood upon you.

I'm unable to install any windows updates. Whenever I try to install them, Windows Update will download them, create the restore point, but when it gets to the install part it says "Failed... Code 80004002."

I've tried a few things to fix it but none have worked. I've tried re-registering the .dll files and I've also tried deleting everything in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ but I still end up getting the same error when I try updating windows. I've always had UAC disabled, so that solution is no good either.

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows Update Error - Code 80004002

hey iSkwat

Have you tried to re-register the Windows Update .dll

1. Click on Start, choose Run and type cmd, and then click OK

2. Type the following commands. Press 'ENTER' after each command:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

Some .dll's may not be found, carry on regardless and try to update again, If its still giving you the error message try to disable your firewall and try 1 - 2 again

My computer ran some updates overnight this week, and ever since then i've been getting a popup telling me my copy of Windows is not genuine. I bought the computer a year or two ago with Windows preinstalled and haven't made any changes to my system recently. I'm still showing that my Windows is activated in Properties, but i keep getting the popup, and running the validation link from the popup itself at microsoft.com results in it just sort of...dangling there spinning, and nothing happens. I have been trying update my mother's laptop to service pack 1. It runs on Vista Home Premium, has all the latest patches (except for SP1). Well, Windows Update was just downloading SP1 when I remembered that I ought to set a manual restore point, so I cancelled the installation process (the welcoming window of SP1 had already appeared, just before the licence appears, and that's where I cancelled; nothing had even started installing yet). Okay, so I set the restore point, and now Windows Update doesn't work. The first time SP1 failed (because I broke it off), it had an error code (C47 or something) which is due to someone breaking off the installation. Everything clear. But when I tried to run Windows Update afterwards, I simply could not install SP1 because it would not download it. The Windows Update panel would simply not react when I clicked on "Download" - I'd be forced to terminate the Windows Update process via TaskScheduler. When I retried downloading SP1 (four times), I had terminate it this way each time, and the Systems report would say that Windows Explorer had crashed each time. The error code for these SP1 failures is 80246008. I tried to restarts the BITS service as I read on Windows Help - no success. And the WindowsUpdate icon has stopped showing up in the system tray since I cancelled the first SP1 pre-installation attempt. I really don't know what to do! I'm afraid my mother's laptop will not be able to download... Read more

Hi everyone!

i recently bought the Acer V3- 772G and after installing the heck out of the windows updates I could finally see the 8.1 update in the store. Clicked it, downloaded it, installed it - but then during that it jumps from approx. 5% to sth. higher, maybe 74%, I could only see that for a half second maybe, and then the old windows version gets installed. Error code is 0x8007025D - 0x2000C and I run a german version if that matters...
I tried the wsreset.exe, tried re-download and installation and also am logged into my microsoft account. Also tried to sync licenses in the store preferences. Nothing works.
Thank's in advance for any kind of help.

Paul

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1

Apparently her computer has not been able to update 1 file (KB2742595) since it's first attempt on 1/10/2013. And unable to update (KB2789642) since 2/14/2013. The 2 files have been trying to update every few days with no success.

Every time the two mentioned files fail it gives the error code as : error 666. when i ask for more details it gives this information: "WindowsUpdate_00000666" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

It is worth noting that there have been some updates that have been successful.

A search on the internet provides no results except for a handful in other countries/languages but provide no solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm assuming her computer is way behind on more than a couple security updates.

below are the most recent details of the 2 failed updates

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2742595)

Basically each morning I import data from an internet database to excel.
I need to divide the number of rows, that i receive daily in this excel document, to 4 worksheets designated to 4 staff members.
Each staff member needs to receive an equal amount of rows.

For e.g. if today i received 124 rows of data then each staff member should get 31 rows each.
Except the number of rows will vary on each day. I could get 200 plus rows of data.

Can someone please assist with writing a macro to divide up the rows in to the 4 worksheets? I would be very appreciative. Thanks in advance

I have attached the sample file for viewing....the data starts from row 3...thanks

Hi, I found this old thread from 2003 that describes my exact problem. Has anyone been able to resolve this? I need to run CHKDSK on a drive but I can't get the command prompt to even recognize it, I get "drive corrupt" error.

Thanks,
Derek.
"Error 1555 Internal file number does not match position" Hi,

I was doing some major partitioning work on my comp...just to re-allocate space and so forth throughout my two drives.

But i found out on one of my partitions on my second drive (while I was trying to resize it by making it larger) that there was a an error : "Error 1555 Internal file number does not match position" and the resizing process halted.

I consulted Powerquest's website for a solution to this error (please see: http://www.powerquest.com/support/primus/id2419.cfm)

The problem is that the solution requires me to go into the drive itself and run CHKDSK /F, but on my system I cannot even see my drive unless it is within Partitionmagic.

I can't even see the parition in "My Computer", nor can i access it by going in dos mode... the error i get is "system cannot find the drive specified".

How do I get my partition to re-appear, so I can be able to run CHKDSK on it???

thanks in advance,

Zach.

I don’t know VBA but have been using Access for awhile using tables, queries, forms and macros. I am trying to automate importing a number of Excel 2007 spreadsheets into an Access 2007 table. The import will be done each month, but the number of spreadhseets could be different. The spreadsheets will all be saved to the same folder. I need to import all the spreadsheets in the folder into the same table. I found VBA code that was written for Excel 2003 and Access 2003. I changed the path, the table name and the spreadsheet type. When I run the code I get Run-time error 52, Bad file name or number.

When I debug the code, it highlights the line this line --strFile = Dir(path & "*.xlsx").

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hello. I recently rebooted for Windows Update and am receiving a BSOD during boot. The BSOD first occurred when it was applying the update, and now during boot it says it's attempting to remove the update and freezes during the process.

I haven't tried any repair options yet. I can't boot the computer far enough do anything as the BSOD occurs before the desktop loads. Safe Mode would not work for me, and I have not tried the Last Known Good yet. I booted a live CD and found two files (attached) that may be useful. There were no files in C:\Windows\Minidumps.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT I solved the problem by deleting the VirtualBox drivers from C:\Windows\System32\drivers

Ok I had to reformat my computer due to the blue screen of death. I did all the initial updates via windows update. I now cannot update it any more as i get the error message WindowsUpdate_80246002" "WindowsUpdate_dt000 I ran the windows update trouble shooter it fixed 2 things .. rebooted and it still wont work.

Also the screen is big and it causes things to look blurry.. I have used the screen resolution to change it and nothing different it looks the same no matter what I put it at... and I have also used the zoom size in chrome and still no go.. this one im pretty sure is simple but i for the life of me cannot figure it out. I am thinking it would fix itself once i get all the proper updates done as i am pretty sure thats what happened last time. Not able to attatch a file as it keeps telling me its too big.

Basically when I tried to do a windows update, it downloaded about 5 other updates and installed them, but 2 updates did not download. Instead of "Downloading [updatename]... complete!" it says it failed. I tried to download/install them again after a system restart (had to restart for the updates that DID install) but no luck. I tried disabling my firewall and antivirus and tried again, didn't do anything. The error code is 0x80070005, and it just says to install the update again (which I can't do...). Specifically, the updates are "Update for Windows XP (KB951072)" and "Security Update for Windows XP (KB950974)"

Is anyone else having this problem or have any idea what to do?

When using Internet Explorer or Outlook Express I often get an error message stating in effect that a problem has been encountered and that whatever I am doing will be closed down. This leaves me back on the Desktop. MS informs me that it is a Windows problem numbered as above for which they have as yet no answer. My machine automatically updates each day from MS and is similarly scanned by AVG every time the machine is switched on. I am using Windows XP Home which otherwise gives very little trouble. I would be interested to learn if anyone else has encountered this particular problem which is, to say the least, very irritating when it does occur.

i'm going to try to be as not-vague as possible..

installing a new hard drive for my in-laws.

i get a "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer" error shortly after the first reboot and the setup changes the resolution to my LCD native resolution.

I KNOW it runs windows 7 because it is still on the hard drive i removed.

its a HP Compaq dc7600 mini-tower.

i can confirm that the issue happens with both 32bit and 64bit versions of windows 7

i have tried every driver i could find for an 82801G / ICH7 IDE controller as well as NM10 / ICH7 sata controller including a few different revisions from the Intel website.

the boot drive i removed was an IDE drive so i'm convinced my issue is driver related to the SATA controller.

if you need any further information please do hesitate to ask

OK so I have had number of errors, the latest being 'Error number: 0x80070017' when trying to install windows 7.

I'll start from the top.

Originally I had problems exactly the same as on this thread below, incl same model PC except with Vista, also USB mouse often freezes or stops working:

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/989152-random-windows-7-freezes.html

I ignored the problem until crash during online streaming (assumed problem was to do with graphics card), usual multi coloured horizontal lines on monitor, repeating sound. Manual push button shutdown.

On restart, black screen no boot activity.

Recovery DVD doesn't work/ don't have all the discs. So I bought Win 7 upgrade instead.

Now I have a combination of 'BOOTMGR is missing', and when that doesn't occur PC freezes on any screen you can think of. Sometimes I can get all the way to 'expanding files' when installing Win 7, then I get Error number: 0x80070017. I have tried copying DVD to USB drive (in case it's a dvd drive speed problem), but then cannot copy the whole DVD usually there's an error stopping me (on another pc).

Also no OS available to select during repair sytem selction on Win 7 upgrade/install screens

Finnally error regarding 'USB drive uplugged during boot' or something to that effect, also tells me DVD or CD or hardrive might no be connected properly. Had that message twice, again locks up. I've checked inside, everyt... Read more

status: 0xc00000e9
info: an unexpected I/o eroor has occured
So I have had that 2-3 times now, on random occasions, no unpluggin of devices has occured (haven't even booted up)
