Wake on Ring problem - Fax modem fails to wake PC reliably from standby

Question: Wake on Ring problem - Fax modem fails to wake PC reliably from standby

When my WinXPPro SP3 machine is in sleep/standby/suspend mode (S1 or S3), the fax modem wakes the machine some of the time but not all of the time. I want it to wake the PC every time, with 100% reliability. (When the PC is up and running, the modem and the machine receive faxes beautifully.)

What do you suggest?

Modem: Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem with recent driver update to version 7.67.0.50 (7/3/2007) (but this problem is the same now as before with the 2004 driver version)
PC: Dell Optiplex 755
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 @ 2400 MHz
RAM: 2GB, of which 1.4GB is usually free
BIOS: A14
OS: WinXPPro SP3 with all updates
AV: Avast Home Free
Anti-spyware: SpywareBlaster Free, Spybot S&D Free and AdAware Anniversary Free
Fax software: MS Fax Console that comes with WinXPPro SP3
Printer/Fax Printer: HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless AIO (model A909g)
Screensaver: XP logo after 9 minutes; do NOT show welcome screen on resume
Power Settings: Home/Office Desk; Turn Off Monitor after 10 mins; Turn Off Hard Disks Never; System Standby after 20 mins; System Hibernates Never; Do NOT prompt for password when computer resumes from standby
Home network Ethernet connection: Intel(R) 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection card with all Wake on LAN settings ON.
Browser: Firefox latest but use IE occasionally when necessary
Email: MS Outlook Express 6 to POP3/SMTP email service
Misc: I also run LogMeInFree version 4 on all my home computers

Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Wake on Ring problem - Fax modem fails to wake PC reliably from standby

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Wake on Ring problem - Fax modem fails to wake PC reliably from standby

I may not be able to help, but I am curious - is this a dedicated telephone line?

If not, what services do you use, like call forward, messaging, call waiting, etc.

Or does the dedicated line have anything like that that you know of? (or didn't know of)

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

Answer:Trouble with Wake on Ring, Wake on LAN and Standby - Sleep - Suspend

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

Usually only built in modems can do that. Unless there is bios support for it then forgetaboputit.1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

How do I get the system to wake from sleep when modem rings?

Answer:wake computer from sleep on modem ring

You'd need to have an internal modem that supports some sort of remote management or wake on lan.I support the 'Everybody Draw Mohammed Day'. A religion doesn't deny my freedom.

Hello

I need your assistance with wake on lan.

hardware
Asrock b75m B75 mobo, realtek NIC onboard, win 7 x64.

issues
I could wake the pc before so i assume the tools are working and the configuration is correct. Wol in the bios is active and the option in the nic driver in the OS too. The system is setup to enter sleep mode automatically.

The last attempts to wake the pc up were unsuccessful though. The sleep led was buzzing but sending the magic packet didn't do anything.

What could interfere with wakeup? Is there maybe a bios bug? Or an OS/driver issue?

Answer:PC wont reliably wake on lan

It could be a driver issue or it may be caused by a firewall blocking the relevant port. Try to temporarily disable your firewall and test.

Also, try the wake on LAN from a clean boot mode (Bar any applications that are needed in order to get it to work) and see if that resolves anything. If it does then a third party application will be interfering.

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

Question: wake on ring

i have an external usb v92 modem.  i'd like to enable wake on ring.  the modem is supposed to be capable.but in the xp control panel, view devices by connection, the properties of the device don't have a "power management" pane.  the properties of the usb root hub to which it is connected has a power management pane, but the "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" is greyed out.in general, the system does support wake (e.g. on ethernet).Thinkpad T42p.is there something i need to enable in the bios/registry to enable wake on ring from an external usb device? thanks

Hi all, I have this strange issue with my new T410 notebook which has secondary HDD attached via Ultrabay adapter.I am running windows XP (SP3), and have set password on both primary and the secondary disk drives (via BIOS). The initial booting works fine, presenting me two password prompts for both disks. However, when I go into the standby mode, and come back again, I see my SSD as a local disk D, butthe drive does not seem to be mounted (?) properly. It seems that the notebook tries to eject(?) the diskwhen it undergoes to standby mode, but unable to re-mount the disk back again. One thing that estranges me is that I once used T410 with Samsung SSD and this problem didn't happen. When Iswitched to Intel SSD, this problem started to occur... I am suspecting that the problem is related to intel SSD (mymodel no is SSDSA2M160G2LE), but don't know for sure. Does anyone have similar experience ?

Answer:T410 problem with Intel SSD on Ultrabay not remounting after wake-up from standby.

By the way, I have also tested this without the hard disk password applied, and the same problem persists, so this definitely has nothing to do with the BIOS password.

My T41 won't wake from standby if it is on AC. Everything works fine on bettery, though. If by accident I forgot to unplug before I open the lid, the computer will not wake at all. The power button also doesn't work any more. The only solution is to take out the battery and then put it back in and then re-boot. Of course, that way, everything unsaved will get lost. Anyone has seen this before? Thanks!!

Answer:T41 Won't Wake From Standby on AC

It can be a BIOS problem? Update to latest version available. Best regards.

I just added a MS wireless keyboard. Is there a way to wake up the Portege from standby from this keyboard? Now I have to open the lid and use the power button on the notepad. Before, I had settings that put the notepad in standby when I closed the lid. I changed that setting to do nothing when close the lid.

The notepad is set to go to standby after 15 minutes of non-use. This works fine but when I want to use it again I can't find a way to wake it up without opening the lid and using the power button.

Answer:Wake Up From Standby

I have read your posting 5 times now and I believe I have understand what you wrote but I am asking myself how you want to work on your Portege if you do not want to open the lid????:|

Question: wake from standby

We have A57 9704-ALU Thinkcentre desktops.  I can use wake-on-LAN(magic packet) to wake these PCs up if they are shut down, but even though the the network card (Marvell Yukon embedded) properties are set to "Allow this device to bring out of standby", I cannot use a wake-on-LAN magic packet operation to wake up these PCs when they are in standby mode.  We set standby to "Never", but if the electrical power goes off, sometimes the power options on these PCs apparently get set to a power mode where "go to Standby after 20 minutes" mode is activated. It will wake from standby with mouse or keyboard activity.  I need to have these PCs up all the time (overnight) to allow patch installs, virus scans, etc. run.  Also so I can remote desktop into them for whatever reason I deem necessary. I see no settings in the BIOS (51KT37AUS) that refer to standby mode.  The network card is 88E8056.  The network driver is version 10.62.1.3.

yes, another question on this common topic. i searched the archives, but couldn't find a topic that was exactly like mine/supplied an answer.

i have winxp pro. standby works fine if comp is in standby for a few minutes, but won't wake up after 30 min. or so. no response at all. no h.d., no monitor, etc. i have to shut off and reboot.

all power management settings are set to 'never', except for the "computer sleep" button (which is actually on the keyboard) which is set to 'standby'. in the bios the only power management setting is what to do in the event of power failure: either 'stay off' or 'reboot'. i have had it set to 'stay off'.

so, any ideas why standby won't awaken after extended time?

thanks.

Problem is I can't wake computer from standby. It goes to standby when I press the button marked "sleep" but will not wake up when I press the "wake up" button. I would be grateful for any advice . Thanks!

Answer:can't wake from standby

u have to be a bit more elaborate with your explanation. does the whole system actualy wake up ? can u hear fans spinnin HDD working lights on keyboard/mouse/PC leds? but nothing on the screen?

if thats the issue one other member here i just read about said it was his graphics card drivers..he rolled back one and problem seem to have gone.

with me, i started having that same problem with my older comp. it wouldnt wake fully from standby like mentioned above...screen black. but this only happened after i installed a new PSU. and updated to drivers to my card. then i started to get CMOS errors on startup and couldnt even reset BIOS or anything...5year old Mobo....so i abandoned and build a new machine..

only thing i carried over was my PSU (Antec Earthwatt 500) rest is all new. with XP home sp2. i had this problem once and it was even worse..

my system was attempting to start from standbuy ..(Lights on an everything) but after 6sec or so it would shut down (or go back to stanby) briefly -for 2 secs- then start back up...then off then on again..it kept doing this till i manually reset it....no errors no nothing.

hasnt donne it again since then. but i switched my PSU cause according to PSU calc i need 490W and im at 500max with the Antec. since im going Crossfire ill get a 750w+.

I would like to wake from standby with the mouse.  Windows XP and USB mouse.  In Mouse Properties, I have selected "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby."  However, I see nowhere in the Power Options Properties to activate this function.  Something I'm missing?

Answer:Wake from standby via mouse

Is it a usb mouse? If so, I believe if you change the setting in power options to disable selective power saving to usb devices it should solve your problem. I'm not 100% certain because I've never used sleep. Instead I just set the hd and display to power down after a defined period of inactivity. It's easier on your system, uses fewer resources, and is fail-safe (compared to sleep & hibernate which can sometimes be problematical for many users).

PROBLEM: It would not wake from standby, red (busy light) was on steadily, I powered it down, turned off all power at the surge protector, then tried to restart. Power is getting to the mother board & hard drive (power supply is new) I can hear it attempt to start up but it stops after about 5-10 seconds... monitor works but is blank because I think the bios/chipset is not initiating windows to start loading.
I don't know how to analyze from this point! Please help.

Hello to all. I've been struggling with the problem of my computer resuming from standby when I don't want it to. I'm running XP Pro SP3. What I want is for the computer to go into S3 state - fans off, hard disks off, session saved to RAM - and stay there until I press a key. But when I put it into Standby, it wakes up after a period ranging from a few minutes to an hour or so.I've followed all the advice one finds when searching the forums for this problem. I've done the usual checks of the BIOS settings and USB device settings. The next step seems to be to find any resident process that sends commands that cause the system to wake up - for example, I disabled Norton Antivirus's LiveUpdate feature. That seemed to work for a while... But the problem always returns. I've run antivirus and malware scans. I even tried disabling AutoSave in Word and automatic e-mail checking in Outlook Express (these are the two applications I have running 95% of the time - plus FireFox). Still no happiness...But then I got to thinking: Maybe I'm missing the whole point of the thinking behind the S3 standby state. To me, logically, when I put the system on Standby I want it to stay that way. I want it to do things like check for updates and e-mail when it's running, which to me means after I press a button - be it the ON button or a key on the keyboard when it's in S3 state. I don't want applications deciding when to wake the system up, unles... Read more

OK I sure hope I am posting in the right area. Anyway, I will continue with my problem.

So, a few days ago, my Crucial RAM decides to have issues so I have to replace them (went to NCIX and they exchanged them no problem). Later that day, everything was working fine so I was quite happy. Now a few days ago, I was in Vista 64bit, and the PC automatically went to sleep when I was asleep. However, when I tried to turn it back on, it wouldn't come out of its sleep and I had to restart the PC with a message on the bios saying "Last BOOT failed! Something about POST something lol" So I thought to myself just to load set up defaults. Then I booted into XP no problem. Now yesterday, I had my PC on all night, then I woke up this morning to see that my mouse wasn't making my monitor come out of standby. So I wondered what could be the issue and decided to restart the computer. ALL OF A SUDDEN, I hear this long beeeeeeeeep that didn't stop until I shut down the PC! I almost ripped my hair out at this point. So I tried a few times to boot it, and eventually got it to almost boot to XP except got BSODed with 0x00000044. So I cleared CMOS by removing the battery and doing all that jazz. It seemed to be fine until later when I was in XP, I got the 0x0000007E. So I ran memtest86 and there were no issues. I tested each of my video cards individually, tried removing the sound card, checked all my temperatures... but nothing at all. I ALSO got the message on the bi... Read more

To start with, I have already read on this forum dozens of threads and replies dealing with this issue.
My problem is, more or less, the same, but let me give a little bit more detailed picture.

1) At first, my computer wouldn't even go to standby and hibernate (Windows 2000), giving an error message that the driver on the standard keyboard is preventing machine from entering standby.
I've tried so many things, updating the drivers and so on, but nothing helped, until I accidentally bumped into an article listing software which, when installed, could be causing this problem.
In my case, it was Adobe Fonts. The moment I uninstalled it, the machine started going into hibernate and standby without any problems. However, although I haven't had any problems with the hibernate feature, the machine would stubbornly be refusing to awake from standby.
So, at this point, you guys there sweating with updating the drivers over this problem, know that this might have nothing to do with updating the drivers, it could very well be one of the software on your machine, causing it. Unfortunately, I can't find this article anymore. Has anybody else seen it, by any chance?

2) Unfortunately for me, a few days ago I installed an incredibly stupid program for encrypting Emails (PGPfreeware 7.0.3 ) which adds on some absolutely irremovable network drivers, completely preventing the PC from browsing and sending / receiving messages. http://download.com.com/3000-2144-4880518.htm... I have a T61 running WinXP, with 4965AGN mini PCI-E WiFi card. From the device manager, the WiFi card shows that it could bring the laptop out of standby. I checked the "Allow this device to bring the comptuer out of standby" box and restarted the laptop. Upon sending a WoL (wake-on-lan) magic packet with the laptop running, I can verify that the packet is received by the T61 (used both Wireshark and a WoL sniffer to verify). Nevertheless, upon putting the computer in standby, the magic packet fails to wake up the machine. I tried the WoL procedure using the wired LAN and it was working, it fails for the WiFi network though, even if the 4965AGN should support it (if the is enough power in the PCI bus). I tried using dumppo to reduce the sleeping state to S1 rather than S3, to no avail. Does anyone have experience with this kind of problem, or have solutions to suggest ? Thank you,Andrew

Answer:wake-up from standby (wireless)

I also have problems with awakening from standby. Not only with my T23 but also my Dell 2400 desktop. I figure it's a Microsoft issue and just gave up trying to figure it out. I just reboot. Isn't that sad? Offered a standby but not really. So if anyone knows if there's a driver issue or something, that would be great. I don't think it's the hardware. I have the latest BIOS on all machines. All the updates and minimal but essential virus protection and no time to explore this issue further.

Hi,

Basically my PC is refusing to wake itself up from hibernation (or standby) as it has done in the past. It seems like the actual task I schedule to run DOES run, but the PC stays in either hibernation or standby mode and doesn't bring itself to life. I've tried searching the Net but I haven't had any luck finding a solution so I thought I'd ask here!

I did have to restore my C: drive from a backup a few weekends ago as I installed Kaspersky AntiVirus and it basically made my PC unusable so I ended up formatting the C: partition and restoring it from my backup (going back to avast! in the process). However everything else seems to be working OK so I don't know why it's refusing to wake itself up! :-(

I'm only doing what I used to - using Scheduled Tasks and ticking the box 'Wake the computer to run this task' - but it's not working. The same tasks run fine while the PC's in 'normal' mode and my laptop has no such problem waking itself from hibernation either.

I really need to get this fixed in the next week as I go away on holiday on Friday and want to use the PC to record programmes while I'm away.

System details as follows:

Hardware: Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00 GHz, 2 Gb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS, ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe ACPI BIOS Revision 0706 (21/08/2006)
Operating system: Windows XP Home SP2

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm thoroughly stumped at the moment!

Thanks
Steven

Answer:PC won't wake up from standby or hibernation any more...

Do you have an error message of some sort when you try to get out of the hibernation ? I only found this link on microsoft database about that kind of problem, don't know if it will help :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894896/en-us

Maybe you could also try to disable hibernation, reboot the computer then reenable it.

Hello,

Second time posting here. 1st time was successful

The problem I've got now is that my monitor refuses to wake from standby mode anymore. Been running the system 24/7 for long time, in and out of standby, with no trouble, then it started as intermittent issue a couple of months ago and now appears to be perminently unable to wake up. I am forced to cold boot the power button on CPU and restart. I have checked power management settings - tried changing them - and still no go. The CPU will wake fine but the monitor stays in "power saving mode" (amber light on front panel). I've tried deleting the monitor in device manager and restarting but still no luck.

Any ideas? Could this possibly be a video driver issue?

Thanks

Hi, and thanks in advance for your help! I'm using Windows 7 64 bit.

My computer is several years old, and just a few weeks ago started having a problem waking from standby. Up until now, it had no issues going into and coming out of sleep.

Now, whenever it goes to sleep (whether due to inactivity or putting it to sleep manually), it won't wake up. The lights come on, the fans come on, but the monitor stays in standby. I've looked around online and found that many people get a black screen when booting up, i.e. the monitor comes alive and they may get a mouse cursor, but that's not what's happening to me. I don't get a black screen--my screen is never getting a signal from the computer. I have to do a hard reset, after which I get the 'Start Windows Normally' screen.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers, changing hybrid sleep settings, using hibernate instead of standby, uninstalling random programs, etc, to no effect. I don't think I had any major windows or driver updates that caused it.

Any ideas??? It's driving me crazy. I'm getting to the point of trying a clean windows install... but what a pain that would be.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

hi all,My V560 is not waking up after entering sleep/stand by mode automatically. screen remains black. usb is not working. hdd indicator light is on.i have to press power button long till force it to power off. i am using win 7 enterprise 32bit.

Answer:V560 cannot wake up from sleep/standby

hey azad, place your unit on diagnostic mode via msconfig. restart your unit, login and do not launch any program.if you have set your unit to go into sleep/standby after a period of time; let it do so.once it is in sleep/standby , leave if for about 5 mins before "waking" it up.can it wake up ? if yes, then it is a program you launch or a non-windows item that is launch in the background during startup that is causing the error.if possible, go to >>http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=607595and update your unit accordingly.

I received my X301 on last Thursday, and really like this computer. Over the weekend, however, I noticed a recurring problem. It seems to be unable to wake from standby when connected directly (not using the port replicator) to an external monitor. I tried different combinations of entering standby:1. Shut off external monitor, then go to standby;2. Leave monitor on, then go to standby; I am using extended desktop for the display properties. When not connected to a monitor, it seems to be OK. I had selected the option to do nothing when closing the lid on the laptop, but changed that when I noticed this issue. It did not seem to make a difference. I have to hold the power button down and shut off the computer to re-boot. When I open the lid, the message on the screen is something like going into standby, but it should say, coming out of standby. Regardless, nothing happens. I do not think I have password protected the machine. I may have, but also think I deleted this because I thought that could have been causing the problem. At start up, I do not have to swipe my finger, nor enter a password. My OS is XP. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

I have a WINBOOK TW700 tablet running Win-8.1.  The device supports Connected Standby mode rather than Sleep State S3.  However, the Task Scheduler doesn't wake the device at the appointed time even when the "Wake the PC to run this task"
box is checked.  Since S3 isn't supported, there is no Sleep line-item within the Power Options dialog from which to check "Allow Wake Timers."  So my question is this: Is it possible to configure the device so that a scheduled task can
wake the device from Connected Standby and, if so, how do I do that?  Thanks,

I have an x41 tablet (1866-6SU/Windows XP SP2/1.5GB RAM) that has an odd Standby issue. It goes into standby without issue, but when you try to bring it out of this state it just sits with a blank screen for a few minutes.  It looks like it might go back to the desktop (HDD light flickers, Crescent light turns off), but instead of going back to the state it was in when put into stand by mode, it reboots the machine.I'm running the latest BIOS (2.06), drivers are up to date, I've pulled all Critical and Optional updates from Microsoft Update, and I've pulled all Critical and Optional updates from Lenovo System Update.Any ideas? The system runs more or less without issue other than this problem.

Answer:X41 Tablet doesn't wake up when put on Standby

Standby and hibernation are usually related to the video card, be susre you have the latest driver for your video card.

Hi,
I'm new here, but I've got a laptop that just won't wake up. It's IBM thinkpad i series 1200 and I've put it in standby mode before without any problems. Now it does nothing. Tried to turn it off by holding power button down - nothing. Tried the trouble shooting things in manual - waste of time. So there it sits in standby and will do absolutely nothing. HELP! Anyone with any ideas - please send them right away. Thanks in advance.

If you unplug the machine and remove the battery it should terminate the standby mode. Wait a minute and replace the battery and try powering it up.

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

I've started to have a number of debilitating problems with my lumia 950, which is a shame because they are the same problems that made me leave android for the WP platform. To start off, my phone has been randomly restarting. The restarting seems to have started after the anniversary update version 1607. There's nothing common between one reset to the next, just that they become more frequent as battery life reduces (starts at around 80%). This is also sometimes accompanied by a streak yellow across the screen. I don't know if this is relevant or not.
My second issue, which has been happening the longest, is that the screen will sometimes be completely off when I wake up the phone. I will put the phone into sleep with the power button, and when I wake it up with the power button the screen is black. I know the phone is awake because windows hello will try to sign me in. I have reason to believe that the touch digitizer is also still working. This is fixed either by trying to sleep cycle the phone or by holding down the power button until the phone prompts me to power it off. This seems to wake the screen up. the screen also sometimes wakes up when windows hello signs me in, but this is rare. This problem has become less frequent since the anniversary update.
My third problem is that sometimes the touch digitizer doesn't work on wake. This is similar to my last problem, except that it always goes away by sleep cycling my phone. This problem has also become less prominent ... Read more

Since I did not get an answer here, I went ahead and ordered the machine anyway, and took a chance. It does NOT have either feature in it.

It passed my other tests, so I'm keeping it and the next computer I get will probably have both of those features, but for this one, I guess I'll live without, since the network isn't finished to the point where I could actually use it anyway yet.

My PC is an HP with Athlon 64 X2 processor running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Recently it's started failing to respond after it's gone to sleep or standby -- whatever it does when there's no activity within a certain time.
Today, for example, I left it while I had lunch -- about 40 minutes -- and when I came back the screen was blank and the PC's power light was on. Moving the mouse I heard a momentary hum as the HDD started up, but then the HDD light didn't flash, and there was no response on the screen. Hitting any keys, including Ctrl-Alt-Del or Esc didn't wake it up either, and pressing the power button didn't shut it down or wake it up. My only recourse, as on previous occasions, was to power off at the mains wall switch for a few seconds.
When I re-powered it, it eventually came up with a Cortana screen asking me if I like the image (that's not my normal startup screen), and then prompting for my password. It then started up exactly where I'd previously left off.
Any idea what might be going on here please? I've scanned for malaware, and it's behaving quite normally in all other respects.

Is maybe some USB device connected to the unit (USB memory stick)? I have noticed the same with my older Tecra M1 and new Qosmio G20. If the USB memory stick is connected the unit needs very long time to hibernate and also about 10 min to wake up.

My laptop awakes from standby spontaneously even though I didn't set any program to wake it up. I noticed that if I disconnect it from the broadbank cable it doesnt wake up anymore. I also noticed that the programs which wake it up are mostly related to internet use like firefox, Tor browser and some windows related processes. Even if I stop those programs I still get that problem. How do I trouble shoot that?

Okay, Go to your device manager, go to your network adapter, right click on it and go to properties. Now select the power management tab and un check "allow this device to wake the computer" DoneHope this helps

I have a R30208DY Desktop PC running Windows 10 in 64 bit mode with a VGA monitor and an HDMI monitor connected to the motherboard. All was fine until my Intel Graphics driver was updated. After this the VGA monitor failed to wake up after sleep. I spent some time several months ago with assistance of the Intel support forum investigating this. It happens even if I run with the HDMI monitor disconnected. I tried numerous versions of the Intel drivers, but the only version that works after 4300 is 4424. I decided to try periodically to see whether newly released drivers have solved the problem, so have just downloaded the latest drivers from the Intel site and from the Lenovo site and found that they still have this problem. I can reinstate the 4424 driver if it gets inadvertantly updated, but would like to think that someone at Intel recognises that there is a problem and is looking to provide a new version that repairs it. Is there any feedback to Intel from this support forum to initiate this process?

When my T400 system enters standby mode, I am unable to "wake" it up.  The crescent moon light indicates on the bottom of the screen but when I press Fn F4, the system will not respond.  Closing and opening the lid does not work.  The only thing that works is to depress the power button for 5 seconds, which results in all unsaved work being lost. I am running XP Pro SP3.  My Windows Updates are current as of 9-7-2009.   My version of ThinkPad Power Manager is 1.46.  My model number is 2765-T6U.  I used to be able to control power settings from within Windows, but now it appears that Power Manager is overriding.  When accessing Power Manager from my least-priviledge user account, the scheme is blanked and the OK button is greyed out, so I'm not able to save changes to the power settings.  When entering through Fn F3, I have the same problem.  When I log in as a local administrator, I can change settings, but they do not apply to my user account. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Windows 7 pro, desktop, 2 internal sata hd

Read most of the many threads on this subject. I have turned off Sleep using Control Panel, Editing the Registry, disabling hybrid computer as described in this forums tutorial.

The Start/Sleep button is not grayed out and still shuts down the computer although the automatic timed sleep mode seems to be eliminated. Moving or clicking the mouse does not wake up the computer as originally. I have to remove the power cord for a few minutes and then press the power button. I think the computer then comes back up w/o the windows sign-on window as if awakening from Sleep. Windows 7 initializtion is very slow.

Problem with Sleep arose after installing an external drive enclosure with a sata hd and using the esata interface which did not work and caused loss of 2nd internal hard drive.

I do not mind the automatic sleep mode if the computer would awaken properly.

Forgot to mention the following: Even though the Sleep recovery does not work, the computer responds to Restart and turn on from power shut down normally in its usual quick fashion.

My U300 has some charging issues. If I connect the charger while in sleep mode, then wake up the laptop it stops charging, even though the adaptor is still plugged in. The battery icon tells me that it is charging but the battery percentage decreases. And there's no warning when it hits empty, it just cuts out.

I think it also has the same when I'm charging it running state and then switch to hibernate mode. It doesn't appear to charge even though the adaptor is still plugged in.

To be honest I never noticed any similar issues with my notebook?
It looks very strange and here in the forum we could provide only some suggestions?

So firstly it would be advisable to update the BIOS. Sometimes the BIOS update makes wonders ;)

How about the Vista update? Did you always run the OS update?
From my experience Microsoft publish many hofixes and patches which fixes many different issues?

Last but not least we should not exclude an hardware issue.
In such case the last would be the ASP!

I have installed Windows XP on my P200D-128 laptop.
Everything seems to be working more or less ok. The XP install seemed to find most of the drivers it needed over the net, the only driver which is 3rd party is the HD2400 driver from Omega Drivers.

The problem I have is that if the machine powers itself down due to being idle, when you power it back up the display doesnt come back on and the machine seems to be frozen.

Is this a BIOS or chipset driver issue?

Is there an ETA for the official XP driver set for the P200D?
I really have no interest in using the bloated mess that is Vista.

Folks, Like many of you I've had the dodgy DC connection problem and I've resolved this a while ago by re-soldering the errant joint on the jack to motherboard interface.

All was well with the laptop until yesterday when I tried to get the machine to wake up from standby / hibernate mode whichever it is when you close the screen) and now all that happens is that the blue LED around the power button is illuminated, the CPU fan spins for about 5 seconds, the HDD light flashes once maybe twice and the DVD drive briefly spins up.

Beyond that nothing else happens... the screen is blank and the laptop is effectively not starting from the occasional whirl of the fan.

Is there anyway to perform a reset of some kind to get it to snap out of hibernate mode? I've read up about this on various other forums and have tried starting it without memory, without the HDD and without the DVD drive and still no life.

Any input is appreciated as I need this laptop to spring back into life again.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite M30X-111 would not wake up from standby/hibernation mode

Hi there,

to wake the machine up you just have to remove the battery and the AC and let the machine stay for a couple of hours. After this, it should work again.
By the way: It?s sometimes a good idea to make a biosupdate, because maybe the problem is just coming from the bios.

Please give some feedback about your success.. :)

Long story: Same hardware previous installation of XP suddenly stopped functioning when wife would log in at console, but would function fine via Remote Desktop. Her account was an Administrator account, but the 3rd account created overall after "Administrator" and my own account. If she logged into the console the desktop would function for some random amount of time, typically less than 10 minutes, and then suddenly the display would go into standby and nothing short of a hard reboot would bring it back. If I logged inat the console there was no problem, I could sit using the desktop for hours with no sign of standby.

To resolve the issue I finally resorted to a fresh install of XP SP3 on a new HD. I created teh user account in the same sequence 1. Administraot (Created by default) 2. Me 3. Wife
Now on a fresh install with all post SP3 patches installed, and only drivers from Windows Update the machine is exhibiting the same behavior. Any account I create as an administrator, other than my own, will run at teh console for some short amount of time and then the display goes into unrecoverable standby. Some of the time when this happens it is merely the display being nonresponsive and I am able to log in via Remote Desktop to my account, not her's, and operate normally. Other times it acts as if the entire machine went into standby but the system does not power off all the way, system LED still lit but otherwise no response at console or via network.

Hi everyone,

Since a few days my Satellite Pro A100 automatically wakes up from hibernation mode
(and last night from standby mode too)

I don't have any Wake-up features (like LAN or USB) en, as far as I am aware, these features aren't even present in my current BIOS version (1.50).

The wake-up typically occurs with no peripherals or LAN cables connected.

I have used hibernation mode without any problem for over two years on this notebook.
Therefore I suspect it to be a hardware issue, e.g. something related to the power button or the lid-closing button.

Is there any way to completely disable the lid-closing button? PowerSaver allows you to disable e.g. hibernation on closing the lid, but I don't seem to be able to DISABLE wake up on OPENING the lid.

Thanx in advance for any suggestions or comments

seeah

Answer:Satellite Pro A100 spontaneous wake up from Hibernate or Standby

I guess it could be a Lid switch problem (it could be a magnet switch). Have you tried installing the latest BIOS?

Not sure if this is an XP issue or with the chipset/MOBO. I've never encountered a computer that would not wake from standby by pressing a key on the keyboard or moving the mouse.

Anyone know how to get it to do so? SiSoft Sandra says this is an HP VLi8, and that the chipset is an Intel 82443BX/ZX 440BX.

I'm using a PS/2 KB and a PS/2 mouse on it. A USB KB does the same thing...no wakey.

Hey,

If you go into Control Panel > Keyboard > Hardware > Properties > Advanced Power Management, do you have a checkmark next to the box that says "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby"?

This should be enabled by default, but just in case it isn't....

Otherwise, you could go to the HP website and see if there is a BIOS update or other software patch available that might correct this problem; Could also check their support documentation to see if this problem is discussed.

I know that some older machines do not support ACPI, so that might also be the case...

Hello,

Last few months I am having trouble with my notebook.
It works everything great, until I close the lid, and put notebook on standby mode.

After it is back from stand by and after some work on it, it crashes to blue screen.
I tried reinstalling Vista bud it didn?t helped.

I have those crashes almost every day and I am losing all work when it crashes so it is very annoying.

Any idea how to solve this?

Thanks
Marko

Answer:Satellite X200 - BSOD affter wake up from standby

Hallo Marko

It is not easy to say what the problem can be but I don't believe it is Toshiba issue. The fact is that recovery image and whole functionality with ?factory settings? is tested and everything should works fine.
The question is which applications you have installed after Vista installation. Maybe some of them don't want to be switched off and after waking up is simply ?confused? and result is BSOD.

Can you please tell me one thing: have you tested standby option with clean preinstalled OS without any additional software installed?

Brandnew Satellite A100-775 (multiprocessor dual core 2) will not wake up from standby by incoming call or fax (ISDN Controller:
AVM FRITZ!X USB with corresponding power management features).

BIOS and hotfixes are up to date, motherboard already changed by Toshiba service.
In devive manager there`s no tab "power management" for this network adapter. Apart from this, standby and hibernation generally work.

On my Satellite 1110 everything is working fine.
Is it a special problem with DC or whatever?

Hi everybody out there!

No idea from the outer world? Possibly it might be a problem concerning the power status of the notebook:
Satellite goes to standby level "S3" while my old notebook uses "S1". I tried -in vain- to force the
"S1"-Level by the utitilty dumppo.exe and I`m now using an "active" USB-Root Hubv(self powered), but: zero.
Any ideas all over the world?

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite A100-775 will not wake up from standby by incoming call or fax

Hello

Unfortunately I have no much experience with faxing and I do not use AVM FRITZ!X USB but I can recommend you to check USB device properties and see if option called ?Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby? on the Power Management property dialog in Device Manager is activated.

Fresh Win7 install on new SSD following SATA OS drive failure.
Logitech wireless keyboard (K800) and mouse (M310) plugged in to case (not hub)
drivers updated
no issues on previous W7 installation
Machine does not wake on keyboard or mouse. If I plug an old wired USB mouse in the machine wakes, but will accept no input from wireless keyboard or mouse.
I've toggled all the windows settings I can find that allow the devices to wake up the machine. Mobo BIOS is set to wake S3 with USB.
There are many threads on the topic and I have read many of them - including the tutorial.

Answer:wireless USB keyboard fails to wake

Roger if you used the Windows driver feature (not a fan) it isn't that goodand I always get drivers from the manufacturer where possible and I think thisis the one for the keyboard that you want

http://www.logitech.com/en-au/support/wireless-illuminated-keyboard-k800?osid=14&bit=64

This is the one for the mouse http://www.logitech.com/en-au/support/wireless-mouse-m310?crid=398&osid=14&bit=64
Try and let us know how it goes if it doesn't do the trick then maybe you might have to reset the BIOS to a default one - I am not sure on that though.

It started a few months ago that after sleeping for a few hours it would fail to wake and have to boot up from scratch. This problem has been getting more frequent and now it sometimes simply shuts down out of nowhere. Shutting down without warning is usually a overheat problem. Blowing it out may not be enough. It may need to be disassembled, cleaned, and new thermal paste applied to the Processor heat sink.Failing to wake could just be a symtom.

I've been scouring the internet for a while and have yet to find an answer to this problem.

Basically, when the computer goes to sleep, upon wake, the blutooth adapter does not reinitialize. It works fine on hibernate, and re-inserting the adaptor fixes the problem but that is a bit of a hassle to keep doing that to continue to use a simple bluetooth mouse.

I've tried both the default windows bluetooth stack aswell as the manufacturers stack, and still get the same issue with both. I am at my wits end trying to figure this out on my own.

My Dell desktop PC has been running Windows 10 since last Fall. About two weeks ago it began to have difficulty waking from sleep. Pressing the power button or a key on the keyboard causes the fan to come on and the hard drive to spin up, but the screen remains dark and in low-power mode. When I press a key the Caps Lock indicator lights up briefly.
I have to shut the PC down by a long press on the power button. When I reboot it, it starts up OK and in fact the previous set of running programs is reopened. I think this might be due to hybrid sleep: when I force a restart Windows reloads state from the hibernation file.
I've tried a couple of suggestions I found online, such as using System Restore to roll back. No improvement. Others have suggested changing the version of a device driver, such as the graphics driver, but my graphics driver is the same version it has been since installing W10.
Has anyone else noticed a change in the behaviour of sleep in the last couple of weeks? I'm wondering if this is due to some update pushed by Windows Update.
TIA for any advice.

Answer:Desktop PC fails to wake from sleep, how can I fix this?

Hi Richard,
Are you using Windows 10 1511 version ? If yes, Please try to install the latest windows update KB3140768 which brings your windows version into Windows 10 build 10586.164. So far it is fixing my issue with "sleep issue" on Microsoft Surface hardware.
No problem so far that I can see.
Hope this helps.

Hi folks. I'm having a little weird problem. This is a new system and you can see the specs in my sig. Everything is going well, and there are no problems whatsoever, except for a little weird one. Whenever the pc goes to sleep, it will not come back to life normally. I'll just have to restart it. This is what happens exactly:

Note: It doesn't happen if the PC just went to sleep, i.e. it will wake up if for example it went for sleep like a 5 seconds ago.

I come after a long day at work, and the PC will be sleeping. I'll move the mouse and the screen will come back up but only the mouse is responsive. I can only move the mouse cursor....That's all. If I press Ctrl Alt Del to enter task manager, it will bring me that page where I can choose task manager, log off, switch user...etc. And that will be it. I will not be able to do anything after that. The whole PC will freeze(after I click on task manager for example) and i will no longer be able to even move the mouse or hit Ctrl Alt Del combination to get into task manager.

I thought this might be because of my overclocking but it happened even at stock settings so it is not overclocking related. The only thing I can do is to fully disable sleep mode in both windows and BIOS(I think) to overcome this. This is just a workaround and not a solution.

Anybody have seen this before in windows 7 ? Suggestions? Comments?
Thanks.

Answer:Windows 7 fails to wake up from sleep

1: test your hdd with hd tune or hd sentinel to see it there are any communication or sector problems.
2: disable all background programs and see if the problem continues. if not start adding stuff back unit it happens again.
3: update your bios.
4: my preference, stop using sleep mode and turn it off. it can't take that long to boot?!

stand by/sleep mode has always been a PITA!!

Hello, I have 3 HDDs on my PC. Two WDC 640 GB Blacks (manufacture date June 2009) and a 1 TB Black (manufacture date November 2009). I use the 1 TB Black for storing my documents while the two 640 GB Blacks are for OS/Apps and Scratch files respectively.

The problem is when I wake up the PC from S3 sleep mode. The 2 640 GB Blacks spin up fine and I could get to the desktop but the 1 TB Black fails to start. Has anyone had issues similar to mine? Any suggestions?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-55P-UD4PA.

I have a new Toshiba Satellite Pro A300/ PSAJ1E - 018006EN with similar problems too.
When mine goes into sleep mode it will not re-start unless the power button is pressed 'numerous' times, eventually it powers up, but in safe mode and everything that was being worked on is lost.

I have read about the similar issues? Mostly the display stayed blank after coming from standby or hibernation?

This could be solved by updating the BIOS to the latest available version and by updating the OS.

I was wondering if there's any way to wake a Windows tablet/PC connected to a wifi network in Connected Standby mode via wifi? Wake on LAN doesn't seem to work with connected standby (and wifi). We know that while in connected standby, apps can receive notifications and perform certain actions. Is it possible to create an app to wake the PC from connected standby?

Answer:Any way to wake a Windows tablet/PC from Connected Standby mode via wifi?

Depends on the NIC driver. Some of them you can go into is properties and disable "allow to power off" either in the NIC properties, or in the advanced power settings. If left on, then you can use wake on lan.

Hello, After a few months of operating well, my T500 started failling to enter stand by when I shut the lid (that is, the screen). On the other hand, using the OS (windows XP) menu dialogs  to enter stand by, that works fine. After a few more months, when I'm already in the habit of entering stand by manually through the dialogs, this started failing too, with error messages saying the modem driver is at fault.- I recently updated the BIOS and screen drivers hoping the stand by situation will improve- No updated are available for the modem driver. Hi,

I have a Toshiba A100 Satellite PSAARA-055007 with Win XP Home SP3 and current updates.

For the life of me, I cannot get this machine to successfully wake up from standby or hibernate!

It goes into hibernate and standby just fine, but when you try to power it back up or take it out of hibernate or standby it seems to start waking up and then it just hangs without the display ever powering up. The only option is to hard boot the system.

So at present Standby or Hibernate do not work at all.

Anyone? Please help!

In the last month or two, I have been experiencing issues when putting my T500 2081 (with dedicated graphics - currently using Energy savings mode, or integrated graphics) into sleep mode. In the first month or so,  the computer sometimes made a long sequence of beeps when I tried the wake the machine up, then computer then would restart and get stuck at a black screen. (A forceful shutdown was required to reboot the machine) (Power indicator on, sleep indicator off) Since then, I never got the beeps anymore, although it has progressed to just being stuck after the machine is awakened. (While the power indicator shows that the machine is on, the sleep (moon) indicator remains lit.)  A force shutdown was still required to reboot the machine. Now, it again has progressed to something totally different. When the computer awakes, the power will completely shut off for a second (it makes the same sound that is made when you forcefully shut down your computer),  then the computer turns on again, but gets stuck at a black screen. (Power indicator is on, sleep indicator off) Once again, a forceful shutdown was required to reboot the machine. If I were to look in the System event logs, it would see this whenever it freezes up after being awaken:"The last sleep transition was unsuccessful. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, failed, or lost power during the sleep transition." Interestingly, the computer would only freeze ... Read more

Often (and I mean very often) my modem doesn't send the 'request' for a new page or refresh for 10 or even 15 seconds! There is absolutely NO activity after I click on a link until it 'wakes up' so to speak. It happened to me on another computer too, and I've noticed that it seems to happen when I have a lot of info on my hard disk, is this a possible cause? I also happened to install Real Jukebox at the same time, could that have something to do with it?

Seems like at least a few people also have problems with their computer not waking up from standby/S3 sleep after Fall Creator?

I did a clean install of 1709. Used the driver updated by MS update. It lets me enter sleep properly. but it won't wake from standby properly. fans and everything power back up but screen is blank. can't do anything except hold down power button to reset.

Is MS deliberately shutting out older hardwares like westmere/nehalem? i hope not... There are still a lot of people using x58 1366 platform. x5650 is still very good cpu. mine actually has 2 cpu... and 48gb ram.... for multithread its actually would slighly beat most of the latest 4c/8 threads intel cpus...

I guess I could reinstall 1703 and see if I get the same problem also. I know it was working perfectly with 1607

Answer:Fall Creator 1709: Dell T5500 intel X5650 won't wake up from standby

Hi wildpig1234. I don't think MS has any grand plan to shut out older devices. I have two computers that were built for XP and they are running fine.

The real issue is the manufacture drivers and how they are interfacing to the newer Windows. Some devices with some older guts work with older drivers. I would be concentrating on your display driver. Here is one thread. I know there was another just recently where an older driver worked.

Blank screen after awakening from standby in Windows and solution

Assuming you find an older driver that works you need to tell Windows to lay off the driver updates. Windows key + R, type sysdm.cpl, click on Hardware tab, Device Installation Settings, click "No".

Hi all,

just bought a new Portege M800 running Vista.

When the system goes into sleepmode or hibernation, there isn't any posisbility to wake the system up. I have to remove the battery to start up again.

Downloaded and installed the latest BIOS, did all Vista updates. Also checked the BIOS, wake on LAN and wake on keyboard are enabled
Anyone else with this problem?

Meanwhile, I disabled hiernation and sleepmode in Vista, but this shouldn't be the way to do it.

Any advice much appreciated
Cheers

What you can do now? If you have installed your own Windows version try it with ?factory settings?. Maybe it has something to do with the software or so? I?m not sure.

If it doesn?t work I think you will need professional help from an authorized service provider. The technicians can check your notebook and exchange faulty hardware parts if it?s necessary.
Here you can search for the nearest ASP:
