Acer Crystal WebCam causing Blue Screen

Question: Acer Crystal WebCam causing Blue Screen

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 150-1570, and have been very happy with it ...until today.

The PC comes with a built-in webcam, Acer's "Crystal Webcam". Haven't had any problems with it.

I'm running Windows XP Home and recently did a windows update.

Today, however, when I went to use it, I immediately got a "Blue Screen of Death" from Windows, with the following Stop error:

0x0000007E
0xC0000005
0xEC171B86
OxEBFCF9FC
0xEBFCF6F8

snp2uvc.sys - Address: EC11A90B base at EC111000 Datestamp 47009ae

This is one of the driver files for the crystal webcam
dated 5/16/08 v5.8.33.1

Thinking that this was a driver problem, I uninstalled the device and reinstalled the latest version of the driver which I downloaded from the ACER website. That didn't cure the problem. I then tried to restore the driver back to the original driver version that came with the PC when I bought it - same result. So, now I'm kind of stumped.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Acer Crystal WebCam causing Blue Screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Acer Crystal WebCam causing Blue Screen

you most likely downloaded the wrong driver, and yes that would make you get a bsod, to be absolutely certain ask costumer support which drive is for that exact webcam

I have the Acer Aspire Notebook 5734Z-4725. I have had the black screen with the USB sound going off. I've been getting a pop up saying I can use a faster port but close it because I don't know about ports and don't want to screw up my computer and the pop up notice saying the camera is in use. I have deinstalled/reinstalled the driver. I have also done a system restore on the computer which set it back to factory settings that didn't work. As far as I can tell it is the same driver. Sometimes it seems to be working fine like the video will work but this is very rare and if I move my computer it puts my webcam back to a black screen. My webcam doesn't work with skype, ooVoo, msn, yahoo nothing.please help i'm so tired of it not working it has been like this over a month i have been on the internet for hours looking for a solution.

Answer:Acer Crystal Eye Crystal webcam isn't working

Do you have a recovery option to reinstall the driver. Note : This image is on a Sony Vaio laptop but more likely similar.Make sure you choose the similar feature if available and not use the restore to factory default as shown.

Hi, I hope someone can help, the crystal eye webcam on my Acer 6930g has stopped working, I dont know what I have done, it was working fine. Now when I try to start it up a box appeers saying:

Acer crystal eye webcam.EXE - unable to locate component
Thisapplication has failed to start because Image.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Hi everyone I'm at my wits end! I cannot get my webcam to work. I have tried numerous options posted in different forums and on websites but nothing seems to work. Even when I went to the Acer update driver search site. When I added my model number I got about a dozen driver options but as soon as I put in my OS Windows 7 (64 Bit) it came back with no drivers. I've noticed in a number of forums that peoples webcams where working fine in Windows XP but when they updated to Windows 7 they lose the ability for their computers to find their webcams. Is this an inherent problem with Windows 7 and is there anyway to fix it short of buying an external webcam. Surly there must be a way to get it to work !!!
Regards Brett.

I can't find the driver for my model Acer. My laptop is the Aspire M5-583P, but when I check the list of available driver downloads, I don't see any for the Crystal Eye.

Answer:Re: Using Acer Crystal Eye Webcam

In this case, check if your Windows Update is set to automatic downloading and installing updates. If it is not set already, it is recommended to allow Windows to automatically download and install updates. Keeping Windows up-to-date can resolve most of the errors you may face with device drivers and other areas. To know more about this, the following link can be helpful:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-update-faq You can also try the following steps if the above option does not work:1. Right-click 'Start' and go to 'Device Manager'.2. Check if your webcam is listed under the list of devices.3. If yes, then click on it and go to 'Drivers' tab.4. Check if you are able to update the drivers from here.5. If the drivers are not able to update from here too, you can consider using the option of 'Roll Back Driver'.If the issue still persists, you are advised to contact Acer through the following link for further assistance:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/contacts Hope this will help you.

Aspire E14 (E5-473G-32HE) did not come with Acer Crystal. It only have a webcam that can not be turned-on. I checked driver and it shows only HD Webcam Installed correctly. Yet can not be turned on and the turned on settings can not still turn on the camera. LINE and Skype says "camera canot turn-on". The ridiculus part is, acer driver support does not even support the camera hardware. I cant find a webcam in their driver list downloads.

Answer:Re: Using Acer Crystal Eye Webcam

zeexui,

There should be a driver listed under the imaging devices section of the Device Manager. Try removing the driver and restarting to let the operating system reload it.

I have reloaded a dozen times and no matter what I do the app eventually crashes. I have seen it discussed on other forums and nobody seems to have a grasp on this one. I am running Vista Home Pro on an
Acer extensa 4420 w/dual athlon 1.9 processors, 2 gigs of ram and an
ati graphics/chipset. The "EYE" runs on an enhanced pci to usb port, it depends on ffdshow to work as well, but I have not been able to find which ffdshow specs are correct for the camera.

So far,
wrong ffdshow codec, no "EYE"
too many USB connections, no "eye" (keyboard, mouse, and external HD)
Acer's original install driver and app "no eye"
Acer's updated driver and app "no Eye"

Does anybody have a clue about this?

Please help.....frustration level is high. Everything else works well and this laptop is quite fast...too bad that Acer doesn't seem to care. I sure won't buy another ACER product.

Hi all,

I've only just got my new laptop and I thought i'd test out the webcam on it.

It has a Crystal Eye made guy Acer built in but I've come across an issue.

It seem that when i record a video the sound isn't sync'd up and it also seems he video is playing faster then it should be.

I've tested it a few times and noticed that the sound wouldn't start at the same time as the video playback but then the motion in the video was actually faster then it should be.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

I have just bought an acer aspire 8920 with a built in crystal eye web cam. It originally had vista premium on it but as it was bought in Spain it was in spanish so I upgraded to vista ultimate to get it into english. Everything is working fine except my webcam.

I used to be able to use the ´camera controls´in the control panel of the webcam but now these controls are all greyed out and the picture is very grainy.

I have re-intalled all the lastest drivers and software I can find and still nothing works. I have restored all the system using the eRecovery system and checked it whilst it was still in the spanish vista premium state and still it didn´t work properly.
Can anyone help in restoring this back to its original condition.

I have an Acer Aspire 7551G-7606 and recently had to replace my HDD and used one from my old HP laptop (it had the same version of Windows 7 Home 64x and I registered it with the Acer's serial). When I went to Acer's site to download the drivers I needed, the webcam software that originally came with the computer gave me an error upon the install setup saying that it couldn't recognize/find the webcam and asked me to plug it in. It's kind of perplexing since the webcam is physically built into the laptop. Is there some reason why replacing the harddrive would make the software unable to find the webcam and is there a way to fix it so I can actually reinstall it? Thanks.

Edit: The webcam does show up in the DM as "1.3mp HD Webcam" and it says that the driver is up to date and that it's functioning properly.

Ok, so I upgraded my OS with a student discount from Windows 7 starter to Windows 7 Pro. I have an Acer Aspire One A0532h netbook I bought right around a month ago and upgraded about two weeks ago. Before the upgrade, my webcam worked just fine. Now I am unable to even locate the files for the webcam anywhere! Even when I do a search on the whole computer, nothing comes up. It is an integrated webcam. I tried going to the acer support website where I specified my exact computer, model, and such and downloaded all three setups for the webcam but they all had the same error; something along the lines of "no camera detected" or "no camera is plugged in". I dont understand. If anyone could help me, it would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

dogsparky,

Sorry to hear you are having issues with your webcam.

Where did you download the Acer Crystal Eye webcam application from, the Windows store?
Was there an issue with the camera application that was already installed?
I don't see any drivers listed for the webcam on our site, so I believe that the drivers are Microsoft drivers themselves designed for the installed webcam application.

Try uninstalling the driver in device manager, then downloading and installing the webcam driver from Acer's website. You can use http://global-download.acer.com/SupportFiles/Files/HWID/APP/HWVendorDetection.exe to determine the manufacturer of the camera to know what driver to install.  Also, have you tried downloading skype or something like that to see if the camera works with it?

Hello,

I am having a load of trouble with my webcam. I'm running on Win7 64 bit.
My laptop is a Acer Aspire 8930G. (specs are easy to find)
I have already tried to search for the drivers on the acer website. But they do not have anything that supports Windows 7. Also I can't find any drivers on the internet that actually fix my problem. I tried 64 bit vista drivers. without succes.

The webcam works perfect when I open the Crystal eye webcam program. As soon as I want to start the webcam in MSN Messenger or Skype, the webcam works. Untill connection has been made with the other contact. Then the cam just shuts down.

Also sometimes and really SOMETIMES. after trying to start the webcam like 50 times, it finally works. But this doesn't always work.

I posted this in drivers section because ( as far as I can see) it's a driver problem. The laptop is brand new, So that cant be the problem. And other webcams wont work on it too.
A friend of mine asked me if I could test his webcam for him. But it gave me the exact same problems as this one build in does.

Hi,
for the past 2 wks i've been trying to work this problem out myself and now, i've got to get help from the experts--you guys.

first of all, what i'm running:
Toshiba Satellite 3000-514 laptop running XP, SP2 (for the last couple of months) that is in French (yes, I'm American but living in France so I have stuff in French & in English that has caused zero issues for the past 3 yrs). All hardware is the standard stuff that came with the computer barring the DSL modem hooked into one of 3 USB ports which I use to connect to AOL/Internet. I have McAfee Virus Scan (up to date), AdAware (up to date and run everyday), and Spybot.

the problem:
I get blue screen of death (BSOD) when the sound is running, either triggered obviously by playing an avi or mp3 file or simply triggered while surfing the Internet and perhaps sounds indicating the entries & exits of buddies on AOL/AIM or email alerts in Yahoo Messenger. I've been successfully online/offline without crashing for several hours now but the sound is deactivated.

events that preceded the problem that could/could not be the cause:
*tried to connect to a friend’s computer at my place via an Ethernet cable by following the XP setting up a local network wizard. it didn’t work out and after an hour we gave up and never tried again. I’ve since de-installed any changes/connections that it created and Windows automatically detected the Ethernet card/connections that were in existen... Hello,

I have an Acer Extensa 5420 computer and the operating system installed is Vista.

I'm having trouble with the Crystal Eye's picture-taking. I turn it on (works just fine) but when I click the "take picture" button, it briefly shows up in the gallery bar underneath and disappears. I can't for the life of me figure out where it is sending them or why they are not staying in the gallery below the pictures like they used to. I can't find any way to adjust or figure out where they are being sent to.

If they aren't there, I suggest you try re-installing the webcam driver. You can download it from Acer's website. Select the appropriate website for your country here: http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/

I recently logged onto my computer only to see an NIC Failure message pop up. Upon logging into windows in anything but safe mode I immediately get a blue screen and it restarts. Checking the error log in set up I see that's been nothing but NIC failures each time it tries to boot up, even though the NIC failure message no longer appears. Internet access on the PC is impossible at the moment and I've been forced to use a laptop. Can this be the cause of all of the blue screens?

Answer:What's causing the blue screen?

Sometimes when an error occurs it causes a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) and the screen flashes by so quickly you rarely get to see the error message. By disabling the auto restart on system failure feature, you can read the error messages on the blue screen and pass that on to your helpers/support. To do this1/ Click Start button.2/ Select Control panel.3/ In Control Panel select system4/ In the System Window look on the Left hand side of the window and you will see a list of options. Click on the Advanced System Settings option.5/ The User Account Control may pop up. If it does then enter the required information (if you are not the administrator) or, if you are the administrator, click the Continue button.6/ In the Advanced Settings window look for the Startup and Recovery section and then Click the Settings button.7/ In the Startup and recovery window look for the section marked System Failure and remove the tick mark from the Automatically Restart option. Now press OK button.8/ Finally click the OK button on the System properties Window and then close the system window. You may be able to do the above in safe mode. Now when the BSOD happens it will stay on the screen allowing you to read the error information. Report back with this.___________________________________________? When everything else fails, read the instructions.

Have owned Aspire V5-531 for 5+ years.  The crystal cam worked great for a year or so, but has since given much grief.  I believe there is a short-circuit on the top right edge of the monitor.  If I pinch the two halves of the monitor "lid" together, sometimes I can get the crystal eye cam to work but often not.  I was told by a tech guy (works for large hospital as their IT guy) that this is common- and there is no fix.   Is this true? The only option I can see possible is to buy an external cam and use that.  How terrible I cannot Skype with family and friends with this great laptop!   At this point, I can no longer use the webcam.  It is toast.   Please advise. Thanks.McLean

I am running Windows XP sp1 and WordPerfect Office 2002. WordPerfect itself is 10.0.0.785, it has been updated fully.

When I open the program the first time it works fine, be it by using my shortcuts or if I double-click a document to be opened. But after the first time the program will cause a blue screen and gives me a ppbint.dll error and proceeds to dump my physical memory. I didn't see anything regarding this on the faqs. I un-installed WPO2002, rebooted the computer and re-installed WPO2002, applied all the SP's and Hotfixes, but it still did the blue screen.

Any ideas at all? Please help. Thank you

Hiya

Are you using the professional or Standard edition? Also, which patches have you applied?

Take a look at this:

I also found information concerning this file on ACT web site. This is what they state:
"The file PPBINT.DLL is associated with a PaperPort scanner program, which is installed with a Brother printer. This program is, in some cases, being set as the default printer driver. Because ACT! looks at the default printer driver when it starts, setting a device other than a standard printer driver as the default can case conflicts, and may cause ACT! to stop responding. You need to set a regular printer driver as the default printer."

I made a forum about this early last year hereBack then, my computer would install the VGA driver and then restart the computer causing the BSoD before it could log into the home screen. At that time I could not increase the resolution or anything. Now, I have the VGA Driver, but I can increase the resolution only if I enable to VGA driver (without reinstalling) and then changing the resolution on Control Panel. When I do this I can go from 800X600 to 1278x720. There is no issues or anything until I restart the computer where the BSoD comes up and makes me Load from the Last Known Good Configuration. With this new development is there anything someone can do to help me fix this so that I don't get the BSoD when I have the VGA driver enabled upon restart? I'm using Windows XP Home Edition SP3 on an ASUS EEE PC (1005HAB).

If I go to Control Panel, then click on "Phone and Modem Options", and then click on "Modems". I can see that my Generic 56K Modem is there - but I don't use this modem, I have a DSL modem. Anyway, if I double-click on the Generic 56K modem, I get a blue screen (STOP error 0x0000008E).

Can anyone tell me why this happens?

I have had a new rig for about three months now and during that time, in increasing frequency, I have been getting the 'DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' crash error. I have tried unplugging various peripherals and updated all of my drivers in the hopes of discovering the route of the problem, all to no avail. The minidump file suggests that ntoskrnl.exe is the cause of the issue so I have run chkdsk in safe mode, but it appears to be doing nothing of any use. I have thought about running a repair install but I don't have my windows 7 disks so I can't.

I am running through an ASUS P5G41T-MLX motherboard with 8gb ram and an NVIDIA Geeforce GTX460 graphics card. I also run a Saffire LE external sound card.

I'm getting pretty desperate now as this issue is seriously impeding my ability to do my work. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Ben.

I just installed the WD 3200KS SATA 320gb drive last night. It is being used only as a storage drive.

This is the first time I've used a SATA drive. Everything works fine during Windows. Instead of completely shutting down, I usually place the system in Standby mode.

After resuming from standby, I get this "kernel_stack_inpage_error"...I ONLY get this error when resuming from standby. I've also noticed that if I reboot, it takes FOREVER to get to the "Windows XP" splash screen...At least 60 seconds.

Here's a picture of the BSOD...

I'm wondering if the new drive is causing this...anyone else know what may be the culprit? Again, this is the first time I've installed a SATA drive.

Thanks in advance.

I'm currently using a Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (Service pack 2) with an Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter.Over the last few weeks I've been having trouble with my computer Blue Screening and shutting down at irregular intervals while I'm using it. Unfortunately the blue screen only flashes up for a second or two before turning the computer off so I have little chance to read what it is telling me.I've been trying to sort it out with various methods explained online- I've cleaned my registry plenty of times and have become aware that the problem usually happens whenever I have "WLAN" enabled. Some googling revealed to me that this is quite common. I went to the Atheros website to see if they had any updates for my wifi adapter that could stop my issues. The Atheros Hardware Helper told me that I had to download "15 Critical Driver Updates" and when I opt to fix this, it requires me to register the program (costing me $26 that I really don't have.)Can you suggest any other ways to stop the blue screen of death from killing my computer? Preferably without having to spend any cash.Thank you.

Answer:Wireless LAN causing Blue Screen

I've cleaned my registryRegistry cleaners/optimizers are not recommended for several reasons: Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.
Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to work.

I was wondering how I get to the log of my last blue screen. I got a blue screen that said "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL stop: 0x0000000A". I would like to figure out what is causing the problem. I heard maybe a driver conflict or maybe a hardware problem. Am I right? I ran memtest on my memory and it got 6 errors before it got to 20% coverage. My memory isn't even overclocked, but my cpu is. I have my q6600 at 3.6ghz. It's at 1600fsb (400x9). I have an evga 680sli mobo and have the fsb ratio thing set to unlinked so I can keep my memory at 800mhz. The memory is at stock voltage of 2.2v. Its this memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820609026 and thats to say if the memory is the problem of this particular blue screen or the cause of many of the blue screens i've been having.

Answer:Log of last blue screen...memory causing it?

Cease all overclocks when diagnosing problems. If memtest reports errors, then you have bad memory.

Hi There, AOL stopped working tonight and when trying to log on it crashed the pc to blue screen. I rebooted and uninstalled and re installed AOL9. However it still is happening.

The error message at the top says:

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

then there is a stop message with lots of Os then at the bottom

HSFDPSP2.SYS-ADDRESS F93B4046 base at F9395000, DATESTAMP 40d22144

is it broken, how grumpy should I be, will the kids get their AOL back?

I bought this netbook new early 2013 with Win8 ([edited to comply with guidelines]). I did a complete Win8 backup, then did a clean install ol Win7x64 Home from disk. It's been a handy netbook, but the Crystal Eye webcam never worked in Win7 using drivers & patches from the Acer support site. Recently, I wanted the webcam working again, so I decided to restore Win8 from the old backup, everything seemed to recover fine, except the webcam still didn't work. Then I tried reinstalling Win7x64 Home again, everything fine again but the webcam. Then I experimentally tried clean reinstalling Win7x86 Home (32-bit), wondering if the 64-bit OS was somehow the problem - the webcam still doesn't work.

It reliably works for a few seconds, then reliably stops working, period. What is happening?

Typically, when I open the Crystal Eye webcam app, the webcam initially works fine for about 3-5 seconds, it then goes blank, a message usually appears "The connection to your webcam was lost". This is usually accompanied by messages in the system tray "This device can operate faster", implying I should connect it to a different USB bus to improve it's performance (this is of course impossible to do with an internal, innaccessible device like the webcam). I'm suddenly offered a LIVE UPDATE from Cyberlink, do I want to download it YES or NO. If I select NO, nothing happens, the webcam doesn't work. If I select YES, a file download of an update for the Cyberlink Crystal Eye begi... Read more

Hello,About a month ago on my Lenovo Ideapad Z580, I was using the internet when it said I was no longer connected.  When I tried troubleshooting, it reset the wireless connection adapter and gave me a blue screen.  When it restarted and I tried troubleshootingt it again, it enabled the adapter and worked fine.  Since that first time, this BSOD has happened every day, sometimes multiple times a day, but not everytime I am on the internet. I have tried doing a system restore at a few different points, but the restore always ends in an error.  I checked at the driver for the wireless adapter is up to date. Please advise on what I can do to fix this problem. Thank you,Stephanie

Hello All,

I have a new issue with Lotus Notes. When working on this computer (333, 64 R, HP) with Lotus Notes 5.0 installed, it runs fine until about 10 minutes after using it. Once you use Lotus for over 10 minutes the WinNT OS flips to a blue screen.

Basically dumps the memory, although there is a note about NTSKERL.

Anyone ever experience this issue before?

Answer:Lotus Causing Blue Screen Crash

You mentioned that Lotus causes a Blue Screen after 10 min. Does it matter if you are accessing something on the network(database, mail, ect)? Or does it Blue Screen on you after 10, by simply opening the application?
Try ending task on all applications and services running in the background.
Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling?DO not uninstall using Add?remove programs.Lotus has an uninstall utility that comes with the application.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition SP3 on an ASUS EEE PC (1005HAB). I recently had an issue with the infinite loop (where the BSOD kept rebooting my computer and I could not access the desktop except by safe mode with/without networking). Since the problem was the igxprd32, I by chance decided to uninstall one of the video/graphics drivers. I ended up deleting the "other drivers" in the device manager. This worked and helped and I was able to access my desktop & the infinite loop disappeared. Everything was working perfectly. Or so I thought.

Now I get this error on start up, "Missing VGA driver, Display switch hotkey is void. Please install GA driver." I looked on the device manager, and the driver pictures for the Video Controller and the Video Controller (VGA Compatible) were both yellow question marks. So I went on the ASUS website, updated the BIOS, and drivers. When I finally got to the VGA driver, it loaded, installed, and then the screen got really big and froze for a while. The Blue Screen came back and I had to reset the computer. The computer once again, blue screened before I reached the desktop and the infinite loop was back. I had to go back to the last known good configuration (Pressing F8) where the VGA drivers turned right back into question marks.

I can't change the screen resolution, and my FN+F_ keys don't work. It's hard to work on a Netbook with such a small screen resolution (800x600). My adobe stuff can't sa... Read more

hello,

i had originally posted this message in the 'hardware' forum, but think this might be a better place for it, so the original post is pasted below. also i have more information -- upon restart, the error codes tend to look like this:

BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : BF032265 BCP3 : BA1D78B4
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

the only 2 codes that change on subsequent blue screens are BCP2 and BCP3. for example:
BCP2 : BF839BFC BCP3 : B980583C
BCP2 : BF032265 BCP3 : B97D68B4

any help is greatly appreciated!

about a month ago, my computer started experiencing the occasional 'blue screen of death.' the error message upon reboot didn't always know what the problem was, but when it did identify a problem, it blamed the display driver. i have an ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M Series driver for my IBM R51e laptop. the driver version was 6.14.10.0289 and the other day i updated it to version 8.362-0704051-046261C. since updating, i have gotten the blue screen upon *startup* several times in a row. any suggestions? the computer is still under full warranty.

any help would be *greatly* greatly appreciated.

Answer:ATI Radeon Driver Causing Blue Screen???

Welcome to TSG...I would certainly boot to safe mode, go to device manager, driver tab, and 'roll back' to the driver which worked.

There's a different (newer) version and some pretty good documentation from Lenovo here.... They say that you need Microsoft .net framework 2.0 installed, so check add/remove programs in control panel to make sure you've got that as well.

Hello all. I am having serious problems with the computer games that I play. Specifically, they are Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, and World of Warcraft. Whenever I play these games, at some point the session is almost guaranteed to end with the game locking up followed by a blue screen. The blue screen tells my that my display driver got stuck in an infinite loop. I have tried to reinstall the drivers and update them to the most recent, but this does not help me at all. This problem has been going on for about 6 months now. This is an unusual situation in that we were forced to perform a factory reset on our computer a few months before the problems started. Before that, I never had any trouble with my games locking up and crashing. Sometimes the games crash to desktop instead of to a blue screen, though the resolution has been reduced to 800x600 with 4 colors, as opposed to 1280x1024 with 32 colors. I can't change the resolution without restarting the computer. I'm not sure why this happens. I'm thinking that the graphics driver is somehow deactivating at some point during gameplay for whatever reason and causing the computer to no longer be able to handle the games. Here are screenshots of what I'm talking about.

Ok, I'm pretty sure my new graphics card has been causing my computer to blue screen. I originally had it recommended, and installed, by the Geek Squad at Best Buy. The first thing I saw when I got home? Blue Screen. Didn't even boot to the login screen. I bring it back, they tinker around, and it boots ok, but I get periodic blue screens. There's a very rare blue screen out of nowhere, just blue screens. Most often, it blue screens right when it's supposed to show the login screen in the boot process. This was while I had vista.

Now, if I just kept booting windows normally, after a few attempts, it would succeed, and would not blue screen. A very big annoyance, but ultimately, I could use my computer in the end. I upgraded to Windows 7. Everything seemed to be working fine, at first. Then I installed ATI Catalyst Control Center, and upgraded the various drivers. Now it won't stop blue screening no matter how many times I boot it.

I'm in safe mode now. The listed files that it said help describe the issue for the Blue Screen are these:

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\041911-38329-01.dmp
C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-61729-0.sysdata.xml

Hello,

Last night upon shutting down my PC, while it was almost done shutting down I got a blues screen. So, to find out what that was about I booted again and I got the Windows error reporting message, linking me to a Microsoft site explaining the cause of the blue screen: it said the blu screen was caused by either my Firewall (I use Zone Alarm free firewall) or antivirus program which forced the PC to shut down in order to prevent data loss.

I updated the database of both AVG and Malware Byte's Anti Malware and scanned my PC with both of them, but no thread or virus was found.

What else could I do to make sure there is no virus on my PC?
Do I need to run ComboFix or HijackThis? Or should I run a webbased virus scan?

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated very much.

Thanks,
Lars

I was in the middle of playing BF2, yes I'm an old school gamer and the screen looked like it got hit by a rock and froze. I turned off the computer and then it kept going to a blue screen or no screen at all. Every once in awhile I was able to make it to safe mode and I tried downloading the latest drivers for the NVidia card but still kept getting a blue screen. I can run with out the video card and use onboard graphics but then I can't play my one video game I like to play. It's less than a year old but now probably only about $100 to replace but I would like to keep from replacing it if it's possible I am missing something. If anyone knows any possible solutions I would appreciate it. I have not really installed any other software recently that might have interfered.

Answer:Video card causing blue screen

What error message does the blue screen say? Any file names mentioned?

If the graphics card is bad and if it's less than a year old, it is probably still under warranty and you can return it to the manufacturer for replacement. You will have to request an RMA (returned merchandise authorization) first and pay to ship it there but it will be a lot less than $100.

I downloaded Secretmaker as I am receiving so much spam these days.Since I have started to use it, however, if I have Outlook Express 6.0 and Explorer running my PC crashes with a blue screen error message and a quick reboot. It happens so fast that I can't read the error message. I am fairly sure that the circumstances above cause the crash.Has anyone else had and sorted this please?Alternatively, can anyone recommend a free spam filter that is actually worth installing please?

Answer:SECRETMAKER causing blue screen crash

your best bet at the moment is a good virus checker and firewall then run spybot and adaware regularly. I would expect better spam filters to come through in the next few months but IE seems to be doing a good job for me at the moment.

Hi there. Ironically, I've helped clean a bajillion computers of friends and coworkers, etc., while keeping my own computers clean for a few years now. I just got struck with something really nasty on my home desktop PC, however, and I have no clue how to fix it.

To start, I have XP Pro SP3. I was surfing the net and a bunch of popups came up. Naturally, I reboot and attempt safe mode, but I get a blue screen (which flashes before I can even read it) and reboot. Additionally, last known config also causes a blue screen loop.

With my laptop, I created an Avira rescue CD and booted with it. It cleaned a few things that I've never suspected of having problems (I believe false positives). Nonetheless, after it finishes, I tried to reboot again in safe mode. No good.

Next, booted with Windows CD > Recovery Console > chkdsk /r which claims to have repaired some issues... still can't boot.

Finally, I attempted a repair at my MBR. Basically, loaded back into the recovery console, and:
ATTRIB -H C:\\boot.ini
ATTRIB -S C:\\boot.ini
ATTRIB -R C:\\boot.ini
del boot.ini
BOOTCFG /Rebuild
CHKDSK /R
C: FIXBOOT

Again, I can't boot. Now, granted, I've never done a repair of my boot.ini as I'm the kinda person that would rather just reformat under serious conditions. However, after the above procedure, I now have two Windows XP entries to boot from, which makes me think that I didn't properly delete my boot.ini... At any rate, I&... Read more

I am very new to the custom built pc world and am having a problem with constant crashes.

1) on startup i get two programs that keep trying to run first one is fwupdate.exe and the second is CLIStart.exe. I cannot figure out what and why they keep poping up. whether or not i click "yes make changes to pc" or "no" they always are there on start up.

2)also on start up I get "the catalyst control center is not supported by yhe driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver, or enable your ATI adapter using the displays manager" I am using a Geforce 210 512mb card. Not the onboard ATI card on my MSI 785gm-E51 mother board. I think this is what is causing the crashes, but not sure.

The crashes always happen on MKV format movies within minutes of starting them. They also happen when doing a sys backup. Under the device manager the only device it shows for graphics is the geforce 210.

on the bsod it says "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

I will attach all files gathered from SFdiag tool

Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong section, this is more of a software issue...

My brother-in-law bought a Dell Inspiron 660s back in 2012 from Best Buy, so it came with Webroot installed already (I do not have any product keys or codes for it). Came with Windows 8 but he has since upgraded to Win10. He contacted me to look at it for him because I work in IT. Apparently he did an uninstall (not sure how he did it) and the driver 'WRkrn.sys' seems to be leftover. After a Windows update the computer rebooted and now it's going to the dreaded blue screen of death. Before it gets to the blue screen, the Dell logo comes up and underneath it says "Preparing Automatic Repair" I don't even have the chance to hit F8 to try and get into Safe Mode. Then it goes to the blue screen that says "Your PC/Device needs to be repaired. The OS couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors."
File: \\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\WRkrn.sys
Error code: 0xc000007b
You'll need to use the recovery tools (he only has the drivers & utilities disc and can't boot to that). I looked up this file and it's related to Webroot anti-virus.
Press enter to try again (does nothing)
Press F8 for startup settings (goes to another blue screen with options that don't do anything)
Press ESC for UEFI firmware settings (brings me to the BIOS).

Then it goes to this blue screen if I hit F8...

Answer:WRkrn.sys causing blue screen failure

The hard drive is physically bad and the windows kernel is physically damaged.
You need to reinstall from scratch on a non bad drive.

Ok, I had no problems with my computer until I connected Civilizations 5 up through my steam client. It was okay at first.

Then I noticed after a day or two that Civ 5 would crash about 5 seconds into the opening cinematic.

No big deal, the motto in my house is when it doesn't work, try a restart. That has gotten me by for about a week.

Then yesterday, I blue screened crashed 3 times. All of them occurring about 10 minutes after I stopped playing a game through steam.

And now today, I can't even load steam to download some games I purchased through them. It says "cmultiendblob extends pasts end blob".

And if I try to start steam and get that message, my computer will crash in roughly 5 minutes.

Help, please.

Hi,
I have another thread posted over in Win 98 forum regarding a Blue Screen Fatal Exception error I've been getting lately. I'm pretty sure I found the cause, but I don't know what to do about it. After I formatted my drive this last time, I installed WordPerfect Suite 8 last. I usually put it in first, but this time it was the last program I installed after all my drivers and everything. Since then, I've been getting the dreaded Blue Screen of Death at random intervals when trying to log onto the net.. I noticed last night that my WordPerfect Program wasn't running properly. My text documents weren't showing any program association icon like usual, and when I tried to open wp it said that the program wasn't installed properly. I reinstalled, and during the reinstall I got the Blue Screen. I rebooted, and the install picked up where it left off, and the program seems to run fine. But, I'm still getting the BS. The only problems that I've had in the past running WP was that the system would crash after closing WP, and I would reboot and everything would be fine. But now it's turned into a driver conlict nightmare. Is there anything I can do other than unloading WP? I really don't like any other word program, and I do need it. It came with my system, and by all accounts it should run. Is there a patch out there or something to fix this? Is WP known for such issues? I've searched but can't seem to find anything. ... Help!  I have only gotten the run around with all other tech help.  I have a Gateway desktop, running Windows XP, version 2002, service pack 3 (will return to this later).  It is a basic setup with an Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.66GHz, 2.67GHz, 192 MB of RAM.  I wanted to add 1 GB of RAM and was told not to worry about anything, just install and my computer would recognize the upgrade.  At first, all was well.  My computer was faster and all worked fine.  However, after about 24 hours, a blue screen error would pop up and shut my computer off.  Then, Windows tried to do a Sevice Pack 3 upgrade, which had already been done, but computer would not allow without using the start-up disc (I never received a start-up disc for windows XP because it was pre-installed).   Gateway went though a patial buyout and the company, MPC is going through Chapter 11 and I cannot get help from them.  I have been told to adjust my BIOS, but HOW and to WHAT adjustments?

Answer:nvidia card causing blue screen

The 8400GS is a low end piece of crap. More than likely, your problem is driver related. That info would be displayed on the BSOD. To view the BSOD, you need to disable "auto-restart".
