Slow Computer, songs skipping, internet slow.

Question: Slow Computer, songs skipping, internet slow.

Hey I recently bought a new computer that is much better than my old one in stats but its not acting like it.

Windows XP
Service Pack 3
Intel Dual Core E5200
2.50GHz
2GB RAM

Now it was running ok to begin with but then the internet started having problems. It kept dropping out or fluctuating in speed and nothing seemed to fix it. It didnt happen on my old system it sat nicely at 54MB/s all the time.

Then the rest of the computer started going slow to start up so i got rid of some start up programs and desktop items which didnt seem to do much. And now ive noticed that when songs are playing in itunes they skip seconds every now and then.

Also when i click for programs to come up after i wait till everything is started up properly i have to wait a minute or two before they open. And burning DVDs has doubled in how long it takes.

Any ideas of what could be wrong, ive scanned for viruses using Avira and spyware using SUPERantispyware, ive cleaned registry using Registry easy and removed all unnecesary crap using CCleaner.

It got suggested that my computer was going slow because of AVG8 so i got rid of it and with got Avira but it slowed up again.

Preferred Solution: Slow Computer, songs skipping, internet slow.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer is unusually slow and it takes up to 10-15 minutes just for my computer to completely start up.

I don't quite know what you need to know about my system, but here are a few aspects:
dell studio 1375
intel core 2 duo
windows vista

*excuse my lack of knowledge regarding computer systenms and technology

I've had my computer for a year and a half now with no major problems to date. However, in the past week, my computer has been acting up.
Any audio/video file (itunes, windows media, youtube, etc.) will play a few seconds then skip terribly for a few more and repeat --I cannot listen to any music or play any videos without this problem.
When I'm moving my mouse from one place on the screen to another, the mouse continuously catches -it will move normally, then stop for a second or two and jump to catch up, it is as if it's skipping too.
In addition to this, my internet is slower than usual. I am using Internet Explorer 8. Perhaps my internet might be slower because I've haven't downloaded IE 9 yet, but i doubt that would affect all audio and my mouse as well.

Any ideas as to the cause of all this and a possible solution? thanks so much

Answer:Slow internet/ skipping audio

Boot off of the Vista DVD in and choose Fix My Computer. If this still fails, go to Start/Search and type CMD and press enter. in the command prompt type Chkdsk /R and press enter. Now type a Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk utility will run at next boot up.

I've been experiencing wireless connection problems ever since the purchase of a new router. The internet connection seems to slow and spike often, with disconnects happening at random. At times i can remain connected for an hour or two without the problem, and at other times it lasts five minutes at a time. When the internet skips, troubleshooter finds no problems, and when i disconnect fully i get an error along the lines of could not access default gateway. Any help would be appreciated.

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

Hi there! The other night I downloaded about a gig and a half of music from Limewire. The next morning I noticed that my computers internet is running very slow. It takes FOREVER to load a page and I eventually get a error message like this one:

Server Not Found:

Firefox can't find the server at www.techsupportforum.com.

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I thought it might have been my free Advast Virus protection, so I deleted it after running a full virus scan and got nothing in return.

I have a Windows XP

Downloaded off of Limewire with Peer Guardian Lite running.

I am so frustrated! Help me! :)

I recently defragmented my drive and used Disk Clean up and have encountered some problems. I also de-installed Norton Internet Security because it was giving me problems and installed Norton Anti-virus instead.

I don't know if this is related to any of those things but since about the time that I defragmented my computer has been really slow and whenever I try to play any music file using Windows Media player the music is not continuous and it skips every couple of seconds while the hard drive seems to be working on something else even though I have no other programs running. All these music files are saved on my hard drive and it doesn't matter which one I play, they all skip. When I open task manager I also noticed that I have several copies of svchost.exe running (about seven of them).

Can anyone please help me? Thanks so much!

Hi everybody, for the past few months my computer has been acting strange, and I figured it was time to ask someone else for help before I took it into the shop.

I'll start off with my computer.

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

HP
Intel
Pentium, 4 CPU 3.00GHz
2.99GHz, 512 MB of RAM

HP Pavillion zd8000 laptop.

Now the story :)

I bought this computer a while back, worked fine for a long time. Then the hard drive completely died on me. Brought it in, and got the hard drive replaced. It was sweet, it worked amazing for a good week. The out of no where the computer took forever to start up. When the windows XP sound that plays at the beginning played, it played all crackly and skipped parts, and was really drawn out (the sound goes for a good 3 seconds, but it went for like 6). Confused, I just went about my daily business on the computer, and started up Cubase, a recording program I use. I opened up a song I was working on and the program would freeze up often, skip seconds in the song, and made it impossible to work with. I went onto the internet and the internet was acting very slow too, not too bad but noticeably slower. Logged onto you tube, and the videos were skipping sound terribly. Still confused, I opened up Itunes, and all my music was skipping too. I checked the task manager and my CPU usage was off the charts, with almost nothing running. I deleted a bunch of stuff, reinstalled the drivers and still no... Read more

Hi everyone,

I have a 3-year old Toshiba A100-989 laptop. I did a complete reformatting about 5 months ago. Everything worked fine for quite a while.

Now the computer takes forever to start. When the windows XP sound that plays at the beginning played, it played all crackly and skipped parts, and was really drawn out. Listening to MP3 or watching videos is of course impossible now. It again takes an awful long time to shut down or to start programs.

I attached the hijack log file and hope that anyone can help me.

Thanks,
Baiano

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

OK, this is the third time I have tried to post a thread on her but the last two times my computer dumped it's memory and shut down before I finished. So I am on a different computer now. Here's what is going on.

About a month ago the issues started on my Compaq Preario V2000 with Windows XP. The music I was playing started skipping and I notcied the mouse was skipping at the same time as the music. It would intensify when I opened another program, to the point I couldn't recognize the song. So finally it got so bad I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled XP. It ran great for a day and the old issues came back. Now there is a new issue, the memory dumping. It dumps all the time now, the error message is usually KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR or KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. The computer also takes about 2-3 minutes to start when it used to take about 20 seconds from power on to welcome screen. CPU usage is also high (70-80%) even though on the processes list there can only be 10-20% being used.

Please help guys, I can't buy a new computer. I just can't lol

Hello,

A few days ago I noticed that my laptop was taking a long time to start up. I use Windows XP, and when I turned it on my computer it took about a minute to even get to the "Welcome" part. And then, you know that jingle that plays everyday Windows starts up? The sound cracked and skipped, it was like I was listening to a scratched up CD. It took a long time for my desktop icons to appear as well as the icons that appear on the right side of my taskbar.

Here are some details of my laptop:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

ASUS
EeePC
Intel(R) Celeron(R) M
processor 900MHz
900 MHz 504 MB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

Then, I tried watching a video on Youtube. Sure enough, the audio was skipping like crazy. I didn't pay as much attention to the video (most of the videos I watch online are songs with just a still picture), but I watched several others and the video did seem to be lagging as well, though the audio for what it's worth is worse.

I have Microsoft Security Essentials, and I ran a scan. It found hundreds of trojans. I don't know to copy a list of the ones it found to this post, but most of the trojans look similar to this: Exploit:Java/CVE-2010-0842.AN I removed all of them, ran another scan, and this time only a handful of trojans showed up. I removed those too. I ran a third scan, and my computer seems to be clean. And yet, all of the problems I've been experiencing remain.

ok so I may have picked up a CICERO virus a few weeks as and now my computer is running like total *&^%$#@. I'm having script errors popping up (internet explorer script error, CCSvcHst and ccApp errors), when I shut down it seems like so many things are running and "end program" prompts show, my flash player .exe wont allow me to view content. it takes like 2 minutes to even open a new internet window, programs take forever to open and the entire system is sooOOO slow and skipping, and lagging like its just bogged down (not to mention that I just got a new itouch and I cant even get to itunes to sync it because it thinks the itouch is a flipp'n camera???...in my ineffective attempt to fix any of the problems I've run cleaners, malware scans etc but nothing seems to do anything.Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Hey, its been a while now since I've been having these problems. So I've fianlly decided to post on a forum and ask for help!

I have windows xp sp2 on a dual core p4 3.06 Ghz processor, 504MB of ram.

My computer used to work perfectly well before all of a sudden these problems started occurring. I have formatted my windows a hundred times but after a couple of days, the problems arise again.

Okay so to start with, my windows is taking forever to load. It used to take not more than 2-3 minutes to load but now it takes atleast 10 minutes. Once it loads, the windows introductory sound skips and glitches as it is with all the other music i play with itunes or any other software. A few times when I open my itunes, it gives me the message that itunes has been corrupted but than it wokrs fine. When I play a video, the video also skips and makes weird sounds. My computer is being very slow with everything. When I open the task manager, I see the CPU usage varying constantly from 0 to 16 upto 70 percent, even when the windows is idle and system idle process is at a constant 98 percent. The system image is using 75000k plus memory (I thought it might be important in some way so I've mentioned it).

All this is really annoying. Is it a virus/malware or something? I have AVG anti-virus and everybody has told me its pretty good. Or is it a hardware problem with RAM or whatever. Please help me I'm clueless and I really don't want to reformat my windows AGAIN!

Answer:Help! CPU usage varying, music skipping/glitching, computer working really slow

To add to the problems I just encountered another one: I got the disk read error while starting the computer. I restarted and it worked fine though. I've got this error many times before and had to reformat my computer each time but it doesn't work. This is pretty annoying. The computer is still very slow and the cpu usage now varies even to a broader range (uptill 100 to initially). Can someone please help me?

Answer:Help! Slow Computer, Slow Internet. Slow, Slow, Slow!

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

Hi The computer  that is slow is a desk top tower. In a home.  it is a E machine.
it has windows 7  professional  with service pack 1
DO KNOW :  I am very new to windows 7 and all it's features.
When I brought this computer home  last Nov. it was lightening fast at everything! so much better than  the windows XP  it replaced, I was thrilled.  yet Now starting in  April 2015  it is as slow  or slower  as my old Windows with XP ever was  ( and partially the reason for saving my  pennies to get this windows 7 computer)...and  now I'm upset. feeling  like I have been taken.

Computer displays the following :
3.8 windows experience index
Intel pentium dual 2.0Ghz  processor
64 Bit

Has Ccleaner installed
has Comodo antivirus and Comodo cleaning essentials installed.
All virus scans  find no infections,  and report that all is well and protected.  ( B/C of the way the computer is operating i'm doubting that and betting there is an infections of some sort)

I Have run Comodo cleaning essentials and  results find no abnormalities or infections.
Have run TFC and JRT  and the computer shows no signs of improvement.
have run rKill  and it  finds  no abnormalities  or infections.
All virus scan results  find no infections.
Windows updates is activated  and  all latest updates have been installed.... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 computer suddenly slow to get on internet, slow to browse websites etc

Hi flywelder Maybe we aren't looking at an infection here. There's tons of reasons why a system can slow down, and not all of them are malware related. Let's try to take a look at this issue under another angle shall we?MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:List Installed Programs;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Dear readers and supporters, I'm using a new P51s thinkpad since two weeks, and while i'm generally rather happy with it, what still really bugs me is the somewhat slow / choppy performance of screen animations ...I'm experiencing this over all applications, be it firefox, chrome, vivaldi, word 2016, adobe indesign 2017, and so on, even windows itself is affected (like in the start menu or whe n.  In browsers, it's scrolling and html animations, in other applications it's mainly scrolling, panning, etc. that's just not as smooth as i'd expect it (as as i was accustomed on my old Thinkpad T520). This means that animations and scrolling are feeling choppy, i'd say somewhere between 15 and 30 fps instead of the expected 60fps. When scrolling, it sometimes "skips" a step.  Generally, it just does not look smooth, and more important it does not feel really responding to my input. This may be unrelated or not, but I also have the impression that sometimes left clicks are not registred, sometimes i have to press a second or third time. This is especially true for the trackpoint keys. Hints:- I'm having the hiDPI screen, running at 200% scaling (Windows setting). I tried different scalings with no success.- I have not changed anything about Optimus, so most applications are running with Intel Graphics, except where set otherwise preconfigured.  I tried to change to Nvidia/Quadro for testing purposes, but nothing changed there, and i reset to defaults.- I ... Answer:P51s with hiDPI-screen - slow animations / slow screen updates /skipping frames system wide?

An update:? i changed my resolution to 1920x1080px and 100% scaling: everything is smooth.? then i changed to 3840x2160px and 100% scaling: choppy.? then i changed back to 3840x106px and 20=% scaling: choppy (this is what i had described above)so it seems to be a problem with drivers, windows or generally the high workload for 3840-rendering. I'd expect it to be less of an impact though, especially when having the nvidia chip doing the work, but it's no change when forcing it to do so via optimus settings.

Firstly my Computer is taking along time to load up at start, I have only uploaded 1 new program in the last month or so and that is PPmate ( a Live steaming program).

Hi there,

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Hey, basically computer's been a bit slow and tried clearing some stuff and done other things, but still no luck, to make things worse internet's been a lot slow and when using either firefox and internet explorer. For example when going on youtube some videos would freeze in the middle and i would have to reload the page, and sometimes takes ages to load a page.

So here's my DDS log and hopefully the problem can be diagnosed, thank you.

Hello, my computer has been extremely slow on boot and my desktop has been hijacked with a message about changing it to a website. I also have a program called "error fix" showing up on my desktop and I have no idea where it came from. I've run Malware Bytes twice on the computer with numerous problems found. After running it the second time, I got a message saying I needed to run CHKDSK which I ran. Also, my internet is running very slowly and I just got a message that says "A program on your computer has corrupted your default setting for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has reset this sietting to your original search provider, Live.Search (search.live.com). Internet will now open Search Settings, where you can change this setting or install more search providors."

Here is my Hijackthis Log, if you need the MBAM logs, please let me know and I will post those as well.

Hello, i'll be grateful if you could help us with a problem that we are having with our laptops at home. Let me to explain you, my wife have his own laptop at home, as I have mine laptop too, both of the computers share a wi-fi internet conection. I'm not sure of what's going on but the internet conection it's extremely slowly, sometimes when we reboot our laptops there is no internet conection. According to our ISP there's no problem with the internet conection, they said it could be something with the laptops.

Now, It's true that the two laptops are more slowly, specially my wife's laptop, it takes too long for any processes, I always take a look to the running processes and it seems like there are too much process always but I'm not sure of what is good and whats isn't.

I decided to attach The HiJack log from my wife's laptop, maybe with this you could help us to figure out what's going on.

Thanks for your time!

This is my first time posting a question on bleeping computer. We are so thankful that you are out there to help us and not rip us off. I think my computer is infected. My desktop starts up very slowly, my internet connection is slow (it's slow in pulling up websites and some never come up). I'm getting lots of pop ups (even though pop up blocker is enabled). When I go to open the control panel, a flashlight pops up as if it is looking for it (it eventually does open but it takes a while). I had a problem at one time with a lot of POS.TMP files and followed advice from posts on this site to get rid of them. Well, my current problems started when a friend downloaded a music program. I believe it was called Soundman. When I noticed the computer acting funny, I went into the control panel and deleted it along with some other programs I found (PPC Booster, P2P Max, Ron Tool Adsoftinc, Wyzo, Eco Bar). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Some kind of trojan invaded my computer I believe. I ran Symantec and it deleted a bunch of entries but the auto-protect kept popping up to block something labeled Downloader and file "kernel32.exe" I was eventually able to delete it in safe mode after turning off the system restore. But then the auto-protect kept blocking Adware.Webbuying with file name qmlqrib.dll (both of these were in system32 folder according to the log), but there was no file by that name anywhere. I ran Ad-Aware which removed two entries with a level 10 threat assessment named BookedSpace and Win32.TrojanClicker, however the Adware.Webbuying continued to be blocked by Symantec. I then ran Spybot which found and deleted numerous entries and I no longer get auto-protect for Adware.Webbuying. However, I continue to get pop-ups, internet is slower, computer is slower, and it seems to prevent downloads after a certain point in time (haven't made it past 20% of a file from various different sites ranging from 4-20 MB). Who knows what else it is doing; hopefully not downloading my personal data. Please lend me a hand if you can. Thanks. I have included my HijackThis log:

Hey Everyone,

First off I'm pretty new here I know..........

My problem is that my internet connection is pretty slow on my main computer. It's an older (6 years) Dell. I'm still running XP and IE7. I have Comcast cable and it's connected through a Linksys modem. The problem is that the internet response on this machine is pretty slow. I have a laptop that I use and that is much better. I would figure that my "main" computer would be faster since it has a hard connection, not wireless.

I know that isn't much info so ask away and I do what I can to provide all the info needed.

Thanks!!!!!!

Ok I recently noticed that my computer is taking longer to load and also it lags when running programs. In addition, I noticed that my internet was slow. I use Yahoo DSL.

I defraged my hard drive with Auslogics Disk Defrag and it did not speed anything up. I did a adaware and spybot scan. And it did not help. So I decided to come here.

Following the steps, I ran an activescan and it found only 1 trojan that could explain my slow internet problem (hxxp://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/security-info/about-malware/encyclopedia/overview.aspx?idvirus=143883]). It was removed. I always had IE-SQUAD and Spyware blaster enabled and up to date. And I did my windows update. I am running Win XP SP2, not SP3, since there were a few things my computer cannot do that I need on SP3.

But my computer is still running slow and "locks up" briefly. If anyone can help, I would be very thankful. Thank you!

Below is my Hijack log and attached is my activescan log:

Hello. Newbie here, well to this forum anyway. Just wondering if anybody else is having similar problem to mine. I've searched this forum and couldn't quite find the same situation. Here's the story: It was a dark gloomy night...just kidding. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Windows Media Player 12. I've ripped about 15 CD's to library, created 4 playlists and on every song, whether using earphones or not, with about 20 seconds left in the song it skips. Every song. Every CD. Every playlist. I'm thinking (something I try not to do to often) that this is not coincidence or else I am really getting signals from another planet. Does anyone know if there is a patch or any type of repair for this? I know it's insignificant but oh so annoying. Does anyone know if Microsoft is aware of this? Does anyone know where my keys are? If anyone can help with any info it would be very much appreciated if you could pass it along to me.
Thanks

Question: skipping songs

sorry if the title was vague. dont know quite what to call the problem... it has only cropped up a couple of days ago. i'm playing my music on iTunes or Sonique and then open Netscape to surf the net... something that used to be a normal amount of multitasking. now the music skips or gets stuck and the webpages in netscape seem to hang. task manager reports spikes in the CPU usage... but i dont know why. why is this a sudden problem? i've tried closing any other open programs, virus scaning, and cleaning up adware. any suggestions?

thanks!

I'll try my best to be as detailed as possible. When I try to play any song in iTunes, it skips (the best way to describe it). And I've had this problem for a a few days. I thought it was connected to another problem I was having that has been resolved. I first updated iTunes, and then tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and that didn't work. Can someone out there help? Thank you.

Answer:Songs Skipping On Itunes

I would try setting Quicktime's playback device to "wavout" first, as it is the simplest step to try:http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/3174If the problem persists, try iTunes troubleshooting steps for video jumping problems. Although the help files are for video and not audio, there are sections that might help improve your audio issue. I couldnt find anything specific in their website to troubleshoot audio only. For XP/2000:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303706- read the part "Modify your System Drive Configuration" (near the bottom). For Vista:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305392 - read the parts "Modify your System Drive Configuration" and "Disable ReadyBoost on Flash-Based Drives" (near the bottom).Post back with the results (along with your OS and amount of RAM if these steps did not work) - and good luck

Hello

I wonder if you can help, I have a ZEN MP3 player which is skipping songs, also I can't seem to be able to create playlist on the player either. My songs come off bought Now cd's or online at Amazon. I transfer them to my MP3 player using Windows Media player.

Kind Regards

Ann

Answer:ZEN MP3 Player - skipping songs

Sounds like the player is faulty. You can try removing the music (if needed), then formatting the player, and then adding the music again. Aside from that, it's likely toast.

My laptop seems to be 'skipping' - the sound skips in and out, the mouse cursor jitters around when I use it, etc. It feels like there is something running in the background that I can't see. I have no idea which items on the Task Manager are legit or not. I have run several scans (Onecare scan, Norton scan) and neither helped.

Recently, my computer began to boot up extremely slowly, and when it finally booted, I would get a pop up window saying that Zone Alarm was initializing and that would stay up for several minutes, then things would open normally. After this had gone on for a few weeks, I decided to uninstall and reinstall Zone Alarm and Avast. When I did this, I no longer got the "initializing" screen for ZA, but I noticed my computer seemed to be bogged down much worse than before. If I'm listening to any audio--it doesn't matter how, it can be Winamp, Youtube, any and all sounds/audio--I get this annoying "skipping" sound that sounds similar to a CD skipping every 10-20 seconds or so. I don't think this is just audio-related, as if I open Notepad and hold down a key, I can see the text "skip" at the same time the audio does. Also, in Chrome when I open a new tab, there is often a long delay before it will load the page. In addition, I have noticed Youtube videos seem to load extremely slowly, much slower than they do on my phone which is using the same wi-fi connection. And, sometimes there will be VERY long delays between when I click on a program or a folder and when it opens.

I have uninstalled any unnecessary programs, I have limited start-up process to the bare minimum, but nothing helps the problem. One other side effect is that Malewarebytes would never start up. I could install it, update it, but it wouldn't open. I used Spybot and Ava... Read more

Hi everybody,I have a problem with my system, I run XP home on a 1.6 GHz Athlon Mesh build, 512 Mb Ram, radeon 9000 Graphics card..My kids installed an old game last week (colin Mc Rae rally 1.0) but could not get it to run.I had system restore turned off due to the blaster virus, and did not think to turn it back on (i know, I wasn't thinking) I used the compatibility program to run the game, specifically XP themes turned off. The game went ok, but the sound kept on skipping slightly, I have had this before on older games and thought it was par for the course. When running a CD, I found the sound skipping and slowing appallingly, and the boot up is now three times as slow as once it was,and the system does not run as quick as before.I decided to uninstall the game, but the sound problem remained. I deleted all the game keys from the registry, still the same.Thought it might have been a corrupted sound driver, so downloaded and installed the latest C-media driver, still the same.Thought it might have altered DirectX so downloaded latest, still the same.Checked the services table, no out of the ordinary ones are running, so did not think it was that.CPU runs at 40/50 % when running cd, so I think that's roughly about right.Downloaded latest ATI driver, made the system even slower, so rolled back the system using restore (learned my lesson!)All codecs look fine, but I have two Indeo ones, 3.1 and 5.2, thought I might uninstall 3.1 in case of a conflict, but keeps reappearing after... Help! I'm running MSwindows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 on an HP pavilion dv5000 notebook. The computer is only about a year old, but lately the entire thing seems to be crashing down around my ears.

When booting up and shutting down, it takes roughly ten minutes, which is a HUGE jump from its old speed. There's a lot of jittering and lag time when running something as basic as firefox to check my gmail.

My task manager showed 62 processes running, a list which has grown dramatically from just a few weeks ago.

Additionally, my music skips when playing, both in my media players and through flash online. I'm guessing this happens because of the large number of processes which my computer is attempting to run- but I have no idea how to sort through which ones are necessary system processes and which aren't.

I've tried doing a virus scan with my old symantec, eventually deleted it and replaced with with Avast! I've done a full system scan that turned up a whole bunch of nothing. I also checked the registry. I'm leery to delete anything there, even though the registry scan tool I downloaded is supposedly windows approved.

I also defragged. I'm really not sure what else to do here.

Help!

For a while I've had problems with my secondary hard drive (D. Some periods it goes absolutely fine (for months) and some others it gives me difficulty like since this week. Specifically, it has problems accessing files, slow transfer rates, etc. For example when I listen to music off D: (or video), there are minutes that are perfectly fine, others that skip for 2 seconds quite a few times, and times that it pauses for a minute. Note that these are never the same times in the files that it's skipping (i.e. the files are fine).

The last time I had problems was maybe 3 months ago. What I did back then:

Check if in PIO mode: false.
Test with the WD utility: test comes back good on both extended and short SMART test.
Change the SATA cable, problem *apparently* solved

So I thought the cable was the culprit, but now that the problem has come back, there is a fairly low chance that both two SATA cables bought on two separate occasions for different shops and manufacturers (i.e. independent) are both faulty.

Are there any diagnostic tools (other than the usual sector-checking tool and SMART diags) that can help us find the problem when the problem specifically arises (e.g. when skipping)? Any thoughts or clues on this?

I'm running Windows XP with an AMD Sempron 2.0 ghz Processor with 700MB Ram.

Firefox takes up all this computer power(I know that this is more common with the updated Firefox's but in my case it's still to an extreme). Firefox will stay open after I close it and I will have to use Windows Task Manager to fully close. I've switched to Google Chrome and it is quicker.

Any Java usage slows the computer down incredibly. Even in Chrome it's slow. I can't switch between programs nearly as smoothly as before. Basically everything takes forever now and my computer seems to strain under the workload of what use to be basic usage.

I found two Trojans with Kaspersky Trial scan and I thought that fixed the problem(I eventually got rid of Kaspersky because it was making my slow computer even slower.) Unfortunately I never wrote down their names because my parent dropped me on my head frequently when I was a child.

I've run all the scans and nothing has come up(to my basic and infantile computer knowledge). One problem with the scans was the MGtools would open briefly and the window would only just flash and then dissapear and nothing would run. I blame mostly Jesus for this but Buddha in his infinite wisdom and humbleness has also taken some of the blame.

If you people could help me out that would be great.

sorry, if this not the right place please move. I did many google searches cant seem to find the issue Im having, or maybe lack of the right key searches. You guys are my last hope.
I will try to explain my problem as clearly as I can. And so sorry about my bad grammar and spelling, trying to post this asap.

first off give small history of my PC. I bought my PC new Sept 2001. A HP Pavilion with 1.3 ghz, 256ram, and a 55gig hard-drive originally came with WinMe, since then I upgraded to XP. I kept my PC case clean, didn't try to install programs my PC couldn't handle, didn't go to any sites that knew were bad with viruses and such also had Malwareytes/spybot/avast/hijackthis to use, didnt install any toolbars, and tried not to have many programs open at the same time. I basically kept my PC simple with use.

Anyways around June I noticed some odd slowdowns
While playing Winamp and running a torrent with speeds of more than 400+ the audio would become choppy. This also happen when I would open FF, IE or any program while running Winamp, the audio would be choppy.

Hello,

I just bought a SanDisk Sansa e250 MP3 player. I am using Windows Media Player 11 to sync the songs with the device. Whenever I try to play a song on the Sansa, it takes FOREVER to load it. It will take 20-30 seconds before playing, and will cause other screens to load slowly also.

What could be causing this and how can I fix it? Thanks.

Hi,
I have an HP Pavillion dv6385ea laptop, running XP.
For about 2 weeks now I've been having some problems with it.
After a reboot it takes about 5-7 minutes to start up. The CPU uasge is always high, even right after start-up.
My mouse cursor keeps getting stuck every few minutes, and when i try to play audio or video files the audio and video are skipping.
I updated my drivers and codecs, and scanned for viruses, but nothing helped.
I'd really thank you for your help.

Hi,

Having really annoying problems with the DVD player on my laptop. I watched a rather long DVD last night on it (about 5 hours worth!!) and it was fine. Now today when I have come to watch something else on it, it is running really slow! It took about 10 mins to boot up, and I kept hearing 3 beeps followed by a rather louder than usual whirring sound! I have just got it to work but now it keeps crashing the scenes and then crashed altogether. When it does play, it is unwatchable as the audio runs fine but the scenes are skipping all over the place!

Anyone have any ideas as to whats gone wrong here? Is it fixable?? I only bought the laptop 2 months ago so quite annoyed that something has gone wrong already!!

Michelle

Answer:Satellite Pro L300 series- Dvd player running slow and skipping

Hello

Does this happen when you restart your notebook?
Does this happen if you watch DVD movies (original DVD movies) only or if you watch some other video file?

Is this behaviour for some certain movie or this issue occurs with every DVD movie?

You know, it is not easy to say anything concrete about this. It is important to see how it works and what happen exactly. Try to make some tests with different audio/video medias and post the results.

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Thanks guys, I haven't done this in awhile so please bear with me...

After an older system of mine seemed to suddenly slow down and a current Symantec scan came up with nothing I ran Housecall on my system. Housecall found Adware_aeropopups and Adware_memwatcher before Housecall itself slowed down to nothing and died. I could not use Housecall to clean the malware/spyware cookies. I ran the Java Housecall plug-in; not the ActiveX. I then ran defrag and that helped some for the system so it seemed. However, the internet is stll quite slow on many occasions.

I ran Hijackthis and have pasted the log below along with a few system details. I only see GoogleDesktop in the log below as a potential problem. Please help! Everything else seems normal to my untrained eye. I will try adaware next if it is still free to use.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and IE 7.0.5730.11
I run Symantec Norton AV and have installed Avast in an effort to access another AV library. I know they will conflict from time to time and will remove one of them later.

Answer:Not Again! Slow PC, Slow Start Up, Slow Outside of Internet

Hello justanotherguy,

You continue to get reinfected because you are still running unpatched XP.

IMPORTANT!:
Before we can proceed any further, please visit the Microsoft's Windows Update Page and install ALL Critical Updates for your system (except service pack 2 (SP2). SP2 should only be installed on a fully disinfected system.) At the minimum install at least SP1a for both XP and IE6. Without these updates your system is wide open to re-infection and we are both wasting our efforts to clean your system. After we have completed your clean-up, we will have you return to the Windows Update page and install SP2. We will also then advise you on how to better protect yourself online.

Please apply those updates BEFORE posting your next log. It is this forum's policy to stop the disinfection process until these basic updates are done. If during the updating process you get a message that your product key is invalid ....then you may not have a legitimate copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately it?s also this forums policy that we only address users with a legal copy of Windows XP.... therefore if you can not update Windows XP to SP1 we must stop the cleansing process here.

**Note** If you're having trouble locating the service pack SP1a here is a direct link to download it from.

Hello Techspot!!!!

I have had my laptop for nearly 3 years but I wouldn't deem it to be a poor performance laptop. Recently I have been getting slow internet, poor keyboard response and slow scrolling, and it is very frustrating!!! I share the BT 3 homehub with good connection speed which was checked and found fine! My housemates laptop has started having the same problem as mine and I really want to fix this issue. The internet, keyboard and scrolling speeds vary everyday but overall are slow performers. I have looked through some of the threads and have seen people posting long threads of code etc :/ Is there anyone out there who has the time and patience to help me fix this problem? It would be most appreciated!!!

Many Thanks

Dan

So yeah, I've these problems for the past couple days. My browsers (Opera and Firefox) used to load pages quickly, but now they're painfully slow. Opera lags and freezes often; Firefox doesn't, but it still takes a very long time to load pages.

I'm also getting these occasional "invisible ads," even when I don't have a browser open. I can hear the ads but I can't see them.

Also, I sometimes get redirected to unwanted sites. This mostly happens when I click on a search result in Google.

Here are some things I've done:

-Ran SUPERantispyware (I can post the log(s) if needed)
-Defragged hard drive
-Cleaned cache, cookies, etc. on both browsers

I know it's malware, and from reading the forums I didn't run Comboware (i think that was the name) because the previous issue involved Symantec AV protection. I use AVG, Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes on this machine so didn't use previous advice. BTW, love you guys and use bleepingcomputer all the time to check startup programs. Thank you!

Hello all,
My computer has recently become infected. I've scanned with Malwarebyte's Antimalware, Norton Internet Security, and SuperAntiSpyware. Norton didn't show any results, but Antimalware and Superantispyware both removed a decent amount of items, however I do not think my computer is entirely clean. Whenever I open Firefox, if it even opens, all of my google searches get redirected to different sites. The only site I remember being directed to was zanuga.com, but there were others. This also happens on IE8. I've tried opening Firefox in safemode, and I get the same redirects. I've posted my HiJack This log below.

Oh, and also, I've noticed the creation of HelpAssistant and HelpAssistant.desktop folders in my Documents and Settings directory.

Happy Holidays,

Answer:Slow, brand new machine, slow upload on internet broadcast

Hi, One thing sticks out, but there are a lot of other things starting up, you do need to trim startups some...

You have two antivirus programs, Norton and AVG, are both active in the background, starting when the computer does? That alone will cause you problems....use one or the other, save the second, but set it to not run at all when the computer starts...you can do this inside the program itself in almost all cases...look in Options or Settings for the things that are checked to let the program start up and monitor in the background (active protection) and set the one disabled.

I know some folks that work a lot with startup items...you will probably be hearing from some with help for that.

I tried running Copernic a few years ago on what today is an outdated machine and it really bogged things down...used to use a lot of resources that could be better used elsewhere.

Hi,
Im new to the forum so ill keep it short:
1.My laptop takes 10 mins to start up.
2.The internet page goes pale and says not responding when i start the internet up.
3.My laptop takes agestoshut down.
4 When i write text on internt pages there is a delay in the text coming on the screen
Any ideas on how i can solve thse problems?

Answer:Slow Laptop..slow starting up and loding internet pages

1. Software
a) Clear out all temporary files and folders -- use CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
b) Scan for malware spyware and viruses --Free Anti Spyware :-
Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Superantispyware http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html
Free Antivirus software
MicroSoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/security/products/mse.aspx
Avast http://www.avast.com/en-gb/free-antivirus-download
c) Clean the registry -- Use the tool in Crap Cleaner its very safe and also allows you to back up the registry first.
d) Pagefile (Virtual Memory) -- Right click MY Computer - select properties - Advanced tab - Performance -
advanced tab - Virtual memory click change, you can put the page file on a different drive (if you have one), click
custom size and set Initial size to one and a half times the amount of memory you have fitted i.e. 512MB memory
= set to 768MB, set maximum to double your memory amount i.e. 512MB memory = 1024MB click ok.
If your hard drive is full and there is not enough room for the pagefile this can slow down, freeze or even cause the
PC to crash (restart).
e) Cut down on the programs that load at start up -- Start - Run type msconfig - start up tab- untick everything except for firewall, antivirus and antispyware
and the services that run in the background. http://www.blackviper.com/
2. Hardware
a) Hard drives /
i) IDE Channels: (Not required if you have SATA drives)
Check the transfer rate, you need to have ... Read more

hi all,

it's been a long time since I have had to post something about my problems in these forums. Well over a year as I have had my laptop for over a year now. This may seem like a similar thread to most that have been put up recently but I think it is quite different.

Ever since I have upgraded to IE8 I have noticed Vista be very slow. It could be to do with IE8 but I think that the slowness of my machine has been since before then...according to my wife. Has her facebook shennanegans broken the laptop???!

Here is a list of problems I am getting:
Long start up times. They aren't bothering me that much, just seem to be a bit longer than normal.
Very long time from when Vista has loaded and I can actually do somehting (15 minutes just now to access an mp3 on my desktop and it kept skipping for about 5 minutes before it stops skipping and playing the track normally)
Extremely slow at logging onto the internet. I mean that it takes minutes, literally minutes for IE8 to even display the very first internet page. After that it is slow, but not as bad...still frustrating though.
Changing between programs seems to take a few seconds.
Accessing my computer or my documents is like a game of russian roulette, will it let me or won't it.....900 on it won't!!!!
On mp3 tracks, if you go back to a certain point in the track it will take a few seconds to actually complete the task

I have about 26gig free on my hard drive. But about 80 gig is used up for phot... Read more

Answer:Laptop - Vista - Very slow on internet & even media player is slow

hi my first instinct is to get your self an external hdd and transfer your files folders etc to it then visit the folks in security and hijack if nothing else lets rule out any possibity of infection. when you upgraded to ie8 was it still in beta, what av and firewall are you using. have you run your av, can windows update same for windows defender, i know its a lot of questions but the answers could be helpfull

Hi, Recently computer has slowed drastically, CPU showing high usage even when I am not doing stuff, Windows sounds like "da-ding" going off alot for no apparent reason. JS/Agent Detected and Quarantined 4 separate occasions by AVG in last 2 weeks. Am attaching DDS logs and the GMER log, as per preparation topic. Note GMER did not allow me to select alot of the checked boxes, that showed in prep page, they were greyed out and unclickable.

First time poster, long time lurker.  Just made an account because I finally want to get my computer running decently.

Here is my issue, I use the internet all the time.  I use sites like wunderground, flightradar and other live updating websites.
I have a toshiba satellite that is probably 4 years old or so.  It has been fine for me and I enjoy using it.  Over the last year or so it has become slower when opening programs like google earth, thunderbird, gopro studio and itunes.
I'm not sure how to describe the slowness of it.  For example, using flightradar, while showing live radar for the area, it freezes, I have to hit the reload button on google chrome a few times before it refreshes the page.  Google earth takes about 15 seconds to load, when I first downloaded it a few years ago it opened almost immediately.
I am not computer braindead but I am not computer savy as well.
Any help would be great.

Edit: another thing with the slowness of the computer, it takes quite a while to open up my pictures folders
Brainfart
here are the specs on computer
Toshiba Satellite S55-B
Intel core i7
12gb ram
windows 8.1  64bit

Thanks

for about the last week or so i have noticed Windows is taking a lot longer to boot than usual. upwards of 4+ minutes.

i have run an AV scan, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan, Spybot S&D scan and cleaned up trash with CCleaner. i disabled all unnecessary services except for Avast which still runs the engine even though i disabled all the shields.

there were a few infections found which i was able to quarantine and delete.

my system is:
