Finding SATA drivers

Question: Finding SATA drivers

I am going to attempt to set up XP (dual boot) on my Toshiba Qosmio laptop (F45 -410). I have read that I need to have my drivers for the Hard drive available. Firstly I cannot find the drivers on the Toshiba site. Secondly where do I put them after I have downloaded them in preparation for installing XP?
Thanks

Preferred Solution: Finding SATA drivers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Finding SATA drivers

Pagoda,

Once you have the drivers, you'll need to put them on floppy, and press F6 when Windows XP setup is loading. This will be prompted at the bottom of the screen.

Hi,I'm trying to install XP on a friends laptop, but I can't find SATA drivers for it! The laptop is a Gateway MA7 MT6834b, and the drive in question is a Western Digital WD1600BEVS.I've checked on Gateways and WD's site, but neither have the drivers, and a Google search turns nothing up either... Can anyone help?

Answer:Problem finding SATA drivers for Laptop

It's the way they have of getting you to use Vista, usually there's no way around it if the manufacturer hasn't released XP drivers.

Answer:Finding Drivers For Sata Hard Drive

Actually, what you need are the drivers for the SATA controller. These are normally a part of the motherboard/chipset drivers and would be available from the website of the maker of the motherboard (Acer I presume from your post).

The driver should come in a file than can be extracted to a floppy disk - and from there I believe that you can use Device Manager to update the SATA drivers.

I have some software that I really want to use, but refuses to install on Windows 7, even in compatibility mode. So I was trying to perform a dual boot install with XP as a secondary OS.

When I attempt to install Xp I get the blue screen of death with the error message which google tells me is in relation to XP not having SATA drivers. The problem I have is locating the particular SATA drivers I need.

I have an HP G62-A27SA laptop with what the BIOS tells me is an Insyde F. 23 motherboard. However it doesn't seem they have a big website like ASUS to type in the model and find what you need. Any help appreciated.

Hey, I've been trying to install Windows XP x64 on my laptop (windows 7 pre-installed) for the last few days... The problem is that the installation disk doesn't find the HD I'm trying to install to (Which is already formatted, with a partition for the new OS).

I know this is an issue with the SATA drive not being supported natively in XP. So I went down the route of attempting to find the correct drivers to get the XP installation disk to find my device. However, I've either found the wrong drivers, or there's some further problem that I can't work out.

If anyone with any experience with a similar issue could give me a hand it'd be much appreciated. My reason for downgrading(well i'm going to be dual booting) is to free up the extra resources used by 7 that aren't by XP. Basically, XP will run in a quicker, better way on my laptop with (hopefully) less bugs.

So, what I've done so far is:

- Identify the Motherboard chipset and "southbridge", using CPU-ID:
Chipset: AMD 780G
Southbridge: AMD SB700

- Googled them looking for the driver which took me to this page. (Note: if the form isn't filled because of the link it's Chipsets/Motherboards then AMD 780G/ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics which describes my laptop's motherboard and integrated graphics card.

- Found the relevant driver Here.

- Extracted the .exe installer (so I can slipstream the drivers into the XP Install disk and then boot from USB/another copy). I found the relevant drivers withi... Read more

Answer:Help finding XP x64 AMD SATA controller Driver?

Do yourself a favour and put Windows 7 back on - this does support SATA drives natively.
By reverting to an old operating system you've just created a problem for yourself uneccessarily. Why on earth anyone would want to remove Windows 7 and replace it with XP when clearly the laptop was designed for Windows 7 is just beyond me.

Another thing -- have you checked your laptop maker's website to see if they have XP drivers for that model? If they haven't, you've got even more problems because laptop drivers are almost always custom-made for the manufacturer. You won't find those anywhere else.

I purchased Acronis True Image 11 Home at Newegg. Installs fine. Backs up fine.
But when booting from the Acronis CD, my SATA drives are invisible. The USB drive shows.
Recovery on XP failure would be impossible. Apparently, this is a Linux-only product, although not so advertised.

I have downloaded and installed "Bart'sPE." I registered on the Acronis site so I could have a file called "TrueImage11BartPE_s_en.msi". However, I can find no instructions on how these programs are to be used to create an Acronis Boot Disk that reflects all my drives, including SATA.

Does some good soul have the experience to walk me through this step-by-step? tia

Answer:Acronis TI 11 Finding SATA Drives.

I may have found an answer myself over at a wilderssecurity.com forum, although the particular description used there is confusing to a non-tech such as myself. The solution seems to lie in making up a "Bart's PE" boot disk with an Acronis "Bart's PE plug-in" loaded into it prior to the burn. The trick is "exactly how this is done."

1. Your initial Acronis install should include a "BartPE" subdirectory somewhere within it. If not, you must register your copy of Acronis TI 11 Home so you can download and run "TrueImageBartPE.msi". (Said subdirectory must contain three tiny ASCII files together with a "Files" subdirectory.)

2. Download and install "Bart's PE Builder" free at "http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/". (pebuilder.exe)

3. Place an XP install disk that has been "slipstreamed" with SP-2 in your optical drive.

4. Make a copy of the said "BartPE" subdirectory (now inside your Acronis installation) and rename it to something else (such as "TrueImage") in order to avoid a naming conflict, then placing this into the "plugin" directory of and created during the install of "Bart's PE Builder."

5. Run "Bart's PE Builder" and either create an ".iso" file or burn directly to a CD.

6. Boot the resulting CD, click on "GO", browse for and run "TrueImage", and all your disks should show up th... Read more

Hey guys well I own a Dell PowerEdge 400SC, whichd oesn't support XP+.. which I have Media Center, and I had it working before but I had to reformat, and can't seem to find the dirvers that I got working last time, right now I'm on my wireless card, but I would like to get on my wired connection.

So is there any program I can use to detect what drivers I need? or where can I go to get drivers for my computer?

If it doesn't have the drivers you need, you could next find it at the Windows Update site.

Having issues with RAID0 array being detected by Windows7 Ultimate x64 as SCSI. Apparently these drivers are the 'default' drivers that install when the RAID array is initialized. There is no option at this point to install other drivers instead.

Using DeviceManager, there is an option to 'update drivers', and regardless of the method chosen, even selecting the file for a previously-downloaded set of drivers, Windows7 always comes back with a message of "Windows has determined that the best drivers for your system are already installed". Considering that SCSI drivers are the OLDEST ones out there, and actual SCSI devices are becoming rarer and rarer, how is it that these drivers cannot be replaced with more current and more applicable drivers?

Does anyone know of a usable workaround to install non-SCSI drivers to replace the default ones?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Replacing SCSI storage drivers with IDE or SATA drivers

If this is for the motherboard listed in your specs, you need to install the AMD RAID driver,

AMD Chipset Drivers

May also want to install the chipset driver while you're at it if you haven't.

I'm trying to install Windows XP SP3 as a dual boot on my Windows 7 laptop (Asus U33JC).

I'm following this tutorial:

Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

The computer has a SATA hard drive (not supported by XP), so I need to create a Win XP setup disk with the correct drivers "slipstreamed". To do that I am following this:

SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD

I'm having no problems with the technical aspects, but I'm finding it impossible to find and identify the correct SATA driver. The chipset is an Intel 5 Series / 3400.

You'd think this would be trivial but I've spent hours on it! All I can find on the Intel or Asus websites are automatic utilities to identify and install drivers on systems with operating systems already installed, not the drivers themselves or any information about them. I did download one of those exe files and used 7-Zip to extract all of the drivers, but there is no way to figure out which is the correct one to use for XP and for that particular chipset. I thought I'd figured it out by a process of elimination by searching the .inf files, but it didn't work so I must have got the wrong driver. Googling just brings up hoards of fake driver download sites that link to what I presume are malware installations ("drivermax", "driveridentifier" etc).

I find it completely incredible that it is so difficult to obtain the driver or even information about what the correct one is!

Drivers for disc drives are built into windows, so third-party drivers generally aren't needed. What kind of drive are we talking about? A hard disc or optical disc? what type of connection does the drive use, IDE or SATA?

Any chance we could get a sticky added to this forum recommending people first Google the exact model # of their computer before starting a new thread for a missing driver? 9 times out of ten, the first page of results has a link to the manufacturers' site with the driver they're looking for. It only takes a bit of common sense. If you have an hp, go to the link that has hp.com in it... and so on. Most of the time, drivers for vista will work in windows 7, and in almost every case, you don't even have to specify whether you have 32 or 64 bit windows because the download usually contains drivers for both.

Answer:finding drivers....

I see your point. But many times people don't realize they need a 32-bit or 64-bit driver, that their hardware is no longer supported for Win 7, that it might not be located at the mfg, but you can track it by the (let's say) chip mfg, etc. Google for a driver and you might not be directed to the mfg, and perhaps to a disreputable site. I think it's a good idea but don't know if it will have utility in the long run.

The computer in question is a packard bell imedia 4605. It is ancient, and originally had windows ME in it, but it has since been upgraded to XP since the person who's computer it is lost the ME disk.

It was not me who did the upgrade, I might add, anyway, everything else is installed but the USB ports don't work and the device manger tells me that the PCI Simple Communications Controller is missing its driver.

Since the computer is so old I cannot find the driver any where online and the Packard Bell site doesn't have anything.

Can anybody point me in the right place to get them?

Thanks.

Question: Finding Drivers

I'm not sure this is the right place for this question, but I'm wondering about Win XP's ability to find drivers for my hardware. I go to Divice Manager and then click on the items that need drivers. The "Hardware Update Wizard" always asks if I want to go online and let it find the driver. I have tried to have it do this with several different devices and it has never yet found a driver. Does this feature work for anyone else?

I have an Ethernet card that XP doesn't find the manufacturer. Also there is a PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 2, device 10, function 0) that doesn't have a driver. It too, doesn't show a manufacturer. Is there any way to find the drivers for these two things?

Thanks
Peg

Question: Finding drivers

HiI had a trouble with a virus lately & accidently removed sound files while trying to get rid of it. Afterwards each time I play a video I hear the sound coming out from both, my headphone & speakers at the same time. I have tried to install windows 10 again & asked the Microsoft support for help, it ended up downloading windows 10, 3 times & downloading drivers for sound but no use. Each time they download windows remotly, it becomes worse then before & other problems show!! like: the short cuts in the keyboard doesn't work, the sound becomes funny & I couldn't reduce the brightness!!  I have tried to make a clean installation through the USB driver but it showed this message "The selected boot device failed" & I have tried to update the BIOS driver so I can boot from USB driver but I couldn't find drivers for my Laptop, each time I search for drivers it says the warranty is expired & doesn't show anything for my HP Pavilion TS Sleekbook 15!!!I need help, please

Hi,
I'm having trouble finding drivers for my HIS x1950 Pro 256 MB AGP card (dual DVI, i have an old CRT monitor so I used the DVI to VGA adapted to connect it). It is not listed in any legacy driver package I've googled out, and when I had installed ATI Catalyst my system did not recognize the new video card properly (it just said unknown vga card and video controller in the device manager).
Thx in advance

Answer:Need help with finding drivers

Have you tried the Catalyst 10.2 package from here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownlo...px?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.13&lang=English
It supports the X1900 series but it may not support the AGP version since that card is a bit of an oddball.

You can also try using the HIS Catalyst 7.11 driver for similar generation AGP card such as this one: http://www.hisdigital.com/un/download1-423.shtml

I just bought a Hp Pavilion dv6308ca Notebook that came with Vista. I personally don't like Vista, so I installed Windows Xp Pro. I just realized that I can't find the original drivers that came with my laptop. The ones they offer on the HP Support site are all for Windows Vista and are incompatible with XP. They did however, have a link for the Windows XP Pro drivers, but it doesn't have all the drivers (eg: audio, graphics..)
I tried searching the manufacturers' sites for drivers, but I can't seem to find on their site.

I still need:
Conexant High-Def Audio Driver (Tried their site but it seems like they don't offer the download)
NVIDIA Geforce Go 6150 Chipset and Graphics (Tried site as well but for some reason, I couldn't find this model on their "search")
Conexant Modem Driver (Also couldn't find the download on their site)

Can someone provide me alternative sites which will offer these driver downloads? Thanks.

Go into Device Manager and check if you have UNKNOWN devices. Also check for devices with red or yellow marks. For each device that you see with red or yellow and those under UNKNOWN, get their Device Instance ID of each device. This info can be found under the DETAILS tab when you open each device's PROPERTIES (right-click on the device and select Properties.. from there click on the Details tab).

You can find all the drivers for your PC here: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...emID=INS_PNT_6000&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

You can also enter your service tag number to narrow down the number of drivers.

After you reinstall Windows the first driver you should install is the chipset driver, then the others. To make sure you have all the drivers you need go to Device Management and check for yellow icons.

I've often heard that its a good idea to make sure you have the latest drivers for all your hardware. How do you do this ?

Answer:Finding new hardware drivers ?

The only way to do this, is to visit the manufacturers website and download the newest ones. There is no way to do this quickly...just one by one.

The main ones to look for are: video, sound, and other peripherals (depending on what they are...mice don't need drivers really unless they're USB)

i looked on the fujitsu site with my serial number, it was found but said there are no drivers..
at some point i got desperate and installed a few driver finder tools like DriverEasy, all showed something else, and yeah i know that they are mostly useless.

it was no problem to find drivers for graphic card, sound card, network adapter and keyboard though.

i just let drivereasy download this drivers and use them now:
Intel Chipset INF drivers
Something for my Mouse
a driver for my screen
usb human interface device
usb mass storage device

it really bothers me not to know if thats the right drivers at all, but i stil use them
i would really appreciate if you could help me find the right drivers, or tell me what i should install at all and what not
and i'm sick of replies like "never change a running system"
i just want my pc to run without problems and slowdowns because of missing or wrong drivers

I just bought an Ativa 512 MB USB drive (on sale for $15 at Office Depot). Apparently this is an Office Depot brand. I was looking for a good deal on a drive that I could use to make a keychain "toolbox" and this seemed to fit the bill - small, attached cap, etc.  It had U3 software installed. On the back of the package, it simply said that the U3 software needed Win 2000, XP but that on other OS's it would behave like a normal USB drive. This seemed ambiguous as to its Win98 compatibility. I would prefer that it be compat with 98, ME, 2000, and XP for maximum versatility.  I asked a worker at Office Depot if he knew anything about them, and he said yes - he had one in fact. When i asked about Win98 drivers, he told me that there are Win98 USB mass storage device drivers at Microsoft.com. I always thought that they were device manufacturer specific.  He assured me that it would work, and even said that he has done so.Long story short, I can't find Win98 drivers ANYWHERE.  I even removed the U3 software thinking that would help - NOPE.Arrgh.....I ususually never listen to salespeople, but this guy said he has done it.Can anyone help me?  Should I take it back or just give up on Win98 compatibility at this point?PK

Answer:Need help finding DVD & CDROM drivers

Most optical drives are straight up Plug & Play. If there are no drivers that came with the drives, and none on the drive maker's website, there probably aren't any.

The DVD drive needs a DVD player installed to actually support DVD, but otherwise they should work out of the box.

Are you having problems with them, or just wanting the latest/greatest drivers?

Hi,
I got myself in a heap of trouble trying to add a duplexer , Q5582A, to my Photosmart D7260 Printer.
The Error:
"'Automatic Two-Sided Printing Module Missing' Message Displays on the Computer when Duplexing"
I tried the recommended update: Download 1.0,16.12M here:
'Automatic Two-Sided Printing Module Missing' Message Displays on the Computer when Duplexing HP Photosmart D7260 Printer | HP? Support
It didn't help
HP support told me to un-install and re-install the drivers which I did.
Now, Secunia reports the drivers as down level. When I try to update HP says the update for this printer is no longer supported.
My restore to a prior restore point failed.
The Device manager does not have driver files for this device to rollback. This may be because it is network connected.
I see a HP update in my C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Software Update\hpwuSchd2.exe
It is dated Sunday, ?October ?14, ?2007, ??9:17:32 PM. Accessed Sunday, ?October ?12, ?2008, ??11:04:27 AM

One course of action for me is to ignore Secunia. The printer seems to be working as it did before I started this project.
But, it would be nice to have the drivers back to where they were.
Could I run hpwuSchd2.exe to get my drivers back to where they were before I started on this fools errand?
Or, could you help me identify the driver files and I could restore them from a backup?

Thanks
Frank C

Answer:Help Finding Printer Drivers

Hi,

Your "Update software" is identifying the latest drivers but they are not compatible for your system. (Windows 7 or even 8).

This is a common issue & is down to inferior software.

Answer:Need help finding drivers after downgrade from Win 10 to 8.1

For your network controller go here. Click on the hard drive icon, not the green download button. Provide a junk email address. I am not sure this driver will work but it does have the same vendor and device ID according to driveridentifier which I have used before.  This is a Realtek 8821AE AC chipset and is not available on Realtek's site for some reason.

If this gives you internet then go here and download intel's utility to get your other drivers. The other drivers are intel as the Vendor ID is 8086.

Hi there,

I recently decided to dual boot my system with Vista and XP (my system came with Vista pre-installed). The model number is A135-S4467. Everything installed without a hitch, and I got it to dual boot perfectly the way I wanted it to, but then it hit me that I had absolutely no drivers for the XP boot. Display and keyboard and mouse (USB interface, I guess) worked fine as it was probably plug-and play.

However, the ethernet as well as the wireless stubbornly refused to install. I had downloaded XP drivers from the manufacturer's website, but they didn't work. I should mention at this point that at the Toshiba support/driver download page, once I narrowed the search criteria to "XP Pro" only one irrelevant search result came up.

Any ideas? At this point the ethernet/wireless driver is the most important. If I can get either one of the two to work, I could stop re-booting every time I wanted to use the internet to find a driver, download it, transfer it to a USB driver, then installing it once I booted to XP. That would mean that I could find all the other drivers using software that automatically detects hardware and connects to the internet and finds updates.

Hi and Welcome to the forum, see the below as it should help.

Start by runing the Intel Chipset Utility Here http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/ and install and reboot any updates it finds.

Then install the Audio driver from HERE and reboot and test sound.

Hi,

last year I purchased HP Pavillion S3400z with Vista Ultimate OS (it has AMD Athlon 64 x2 5400+ dual core at 2.8GHZ). I had no other option for OS, but to run specific software, I have to have XP. I did a clean installation of XP SP2, but I have several pieces of hardware that need XP drivers (most notably my wireless LAN card). I need help to find those drivers. Below is the comparative table of my hardware conflicts and items that I think match that from my specs sheet:

1) 802.11 b/g LAN ---------- non-specific wireless card (HP p/n 6188-7736)
2) other PCI bridge device ---------- ?
3) PCI device ---------- ?
4) SM bus controller ----------- ?
5) video controller ---------- 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400-HD, DVI, HDMI

I cannot find any of this drivers on HP.com since they don't sell systems with XP any longer. Any help is welcome, especially with the LAN card.

Thanks.

Answer:Finding device drivers for XP OS

They may not exist. XP is a pretty old OS and if the machine was designed for Vista, there may be no XP drivers for some or many devices.

If they exist, they would be on the manufacturer's site. If they didn't sell that model with XP on it, you may be out of luck. Vista is a far superior operating system, anyway.

If the NIC is HP and they don't have drivers, no one will. But it may actually be made by someone else. Use PCWizard to see if you can find out more about it.

Answer:finding correct drivers.

Found this on google,
DriverGuide.com (printer drivers, cdrom drivers, modem drivers, sound drivers, mouse drivers, monitor drivers, etc.)
I've never used it though.

About 2 months ago I decided just to wipe my HDD completely. I had this problem but was too lazy and decided not to fix it right away. I partitioned it into 2 parts. On one I put Windows7 Pro and on the other a Linux distro called Mint. I've never had any problems installing drivers on Windows in the past. I borrowed a friend's wireless adapter and began installing drivers. Like always I used a program called 3DP Chip but the drivers for my wireless card wouldn't work. I also used a program called SlimDrivers but that didn't help either. I went to the manufacturers website and got the drivers that seemed to be correct but that didn't work. I was desperate enough to try the built in driver finding tool for Windows which, no suprise, didn't work. I don't need an Internet connection on my Windows partition. Everything I use Windows for is offline. But it's still inconvienent on some days having to switch over to Linux just to do a simple Google search.  I didn't have any problems with Mint, so it can't be a problem with the wireless card. Any help? xD

Hello,
I have an Emachine W3506 and the disc are lost for it, so I could not use the disc that came with the computer. So i just did a format and reload the windows xp media center edition. Now I cannot find the SM Bus Controller Drivers for it. I went onto the e-machine support website and they do not have anything on there. I went to driverguide.com and a few other ones. I also went to the Intel website because it is a Intel board to look for drivers. So, I'm asking you guys if you have any advice or know where the drivers are I would appreciate the info. Thanks, JB

I just got a monitor for my pc, newer than the one I had. It is a LCD 2004 Sceptre X5 as far as I can tell. I was hoping that I could update my drivers for it so that it will run at optimal level. It will most likely not run over 1024 x 768, but I was really hoping to get 1280 x 1024 anyway. I can't seem to find anything online to update my drivers. I am running winxp, perhaps I can't do any more than I have already... Any suggestions?

My sound is working but "line in" and stuff wont show up in sound. So i have sound but no mic. The driver says its a microsoft driver. The sigmatel audio drivers i tried using were all distorted when i installed them as in the sound would work and everything would show up in Sound but was messed up. Its obviously the wrong driver so i uninstalled it and put the "Microsoft" one back. Any help would be awesome, thanks.

Gateway 840gm (slightly upgraded)

Nvidia 9800gt gfx

Windows 7 ultimate 32bit

Answer:Need help finding audio drivers

cOrPsE, welcome to the forums.

One thing to try with the Sigmatel driver, open the Windows Playback properties, select the speakers and click on Properties. Next click on the Advanced tab and from the dropdown box set it to "16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality)" and see if that sorts the distortion issue.

If that doesn't fix it have a good look around here,

Sound & Audio - Windows 7 Forums

and see what if anything has worked for others with the Sigmatel audio.

I've been trying to download the following drivers:

VIA Serial ATA Controller - 3149

Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA ® Audio Controller

and

Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

I've tried many many times to D/L the right drivers for these two items, but every time I attempt to install it turns out I have the wrong ones. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction?

I have been to both the VIA site & Realtek site (ad numerous other sites as well) & just don't seem to be able to find the right drivers.

Thanks a bunch.

OK, well, I'm about to reinstall windows dual-booting with ubuntu.

Now, I don't want to get into why, but I have like no cd's for my essential drivers and software.

I installed Driveragent, here's my results.
http://driveragent.com/driveragent_...84&PHPSESSID=a2981c612cc59ab35b977ffe4355fa97

I only have the installs for my Logitech mx510 laser mouse, ATI 9600XT series and USB 2.0.

Where to go now?

I mean I don't even know which versions to look for..

Answer:Finding and updating drivers - have no CD's

Go to your motherboard's manufacturers website and look for your boards model VIA drivers. You will need ATI drivers for your video card. Go to the AMD/ATI website for these. Driveragent is telling you what drivers need to be updated, and their names

Hi

Could you run the below and attach the log in a text file as it may give us some info to help you track down the driver.

To find this info you can use the likes of Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post Click to expand...

Also if you can open the PC up with power off and check to see if any names are on the motherboard as to a maker and model?
