Preferred Solution: Press F1 to continue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. You can follow the steps below:
Drain the residual power of your computer and recaliberate the battery by following the steps below:

Power off your computer.
Remove all the external peripherals (printers, scanners or any other USB device) connected to your computer.
Please remove the AC adapter and battery of your computer.
Press and hold the power button of your computer for 10-15 seconds to drain the residual power.
Release the power button
Keep the battery out for atleast 2 - 3 hours.
Then insert the battery and charge it overnight with the system powered off.
Insert the battery in and connect the AC adaptor.
Then power on the computer and see if it works.

If the issue still persists, you can update the BIOS of the computer.
Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

Click on the below link: http://dell.to/Th8z4k
Click on “Download File”.
Select “For Single File Download via Browser”.
Click on “Download Now”.
Save the BIOS on your desktop.
Once the BIOS is downloaded on the desktop, right click on it and select “Run as administrator”.
Follow the prompts on screen and restart your computer.

Please reply with the findings.

I have fixed a friends Dell Optiplex 745 computer. All is working well except it will not boot directly to windows, I get the "press f-1 to continue then it boots up. When I go to the bios, it looks different than any bios screen I have seen. I don't know how to fix things there, there are not a lot of options..

Answer:press F-1 to continue

In the BIOS you could select "restore defaults" and that may get normal operation back. Does the "F-1" warning contain any information as to what is prompting it such as a fan failure, etc.? truenorth

Does anyone know how to program something like this:

cout << "Hello, World!" << endl;
cout << "\nPress any key to continue...";

I don't know how to make the program pause then continue by pressing any key. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Nic

Answer:Press any key to continue...

I don't know how to do it in C/C++, but in QBASIC you make a loop which goes around until a key is pressed. So somthing like this:

Code:

PRINT "Press any key..."
DO WHILE $INKEY = ""
LOOP
PRINT "Continuing"

Using the same principle you could probably do the same in whatever language you're using.

I have a small annoying problem. Everytime I boot up my computer I get the splash screen then it tells me to press F1 to continue. This is a recent occurence I have not made any changes to my computer and I have checked the BIOS and it is set to boot from the HDD first. Whilst it does not in any way affect the running of the computer it is annoying. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Answer:Press F1 to continue

Usually when I see this, it's the BIOS with some minor error, like it can't see a hard drive when the setting says there's supposed to be one. I'm surprised it doesn't spell it out.

You might have lost some hardware, like your optical drive. Start pulling stuff off the motherboard and see if the error goes away. Also disable everything you don't need in BIOS. It's a good idea to do that anyways.

...maybe not.I'm trying to flash my mobo BIOS so that I can upgrade my processor. I've got an MSI, so I use their 'Live Update' facility to get the precise BIOS revision identified and downloaded. I then make a diskette as per the instructions and boot-up using that. When the final warning comes up about the dangers of flashing your BIOS unless you 'really know what you are doing' (I like that bit, real confidence booster), it prompts "press any key to continue" with the flashing procedure. My PC hangs at that point (or maybe just dosn't detect any key being pressed). End of my attempts to upgrade the processor for the time being.Same thing happened to me when I installed a new Maxtor hard drive: made a CD using their utility for Set Up and Partitioning, but the process kept hanging this side of the POST.Any ideas why I keep running into these brick walls with the keyboard?

Answer:'Press any key to continue...'

Do you have a USB keyboard? If so, that is likely the problem.

Hi,

I hope I am in the correct category for these two questions. When I start my computer I have to hit F1 in order to contine. Once I am signed in I have a message telling me to alter the date and time, which has set itself at 31 Secember 1999. I duly obey and new date and time is showing in bottom right. However, I have to do this every time I start up my computer. Does any kind soul have a remedy for this little tinker please?

During my usual morning start-up, I got a dos screen with a message and to press F1 to continue. Everything booted fine after that. I ran malwarebytes, backed up my data files on a flash drive and looked into the event logs to see what might have happened. Unfortunately, I didn't even know where to look in the event logs except the administrative events which showed nothing critical.
I wish I had paid more attention to the original dos screen message. I'm now afraid to shut this puter down and wondering what happened. Appreciate any input........

Hello,

I built my latest computer about a month ago and it has run great. However, each time I have to start the computer up either from rebooting or because I shut it down hours before, it always asks me to "press any key to continue ..."

Here is what is on the screen:

ODD0: ATAPI iHAS424Y
ODD1: ATAPI iHDS1185

Press any key to continue ...

*******
If I do not press any key withing 5 seconds, then it gets stuck on that screen and message. When it gets stuck, I have to hard shut down and restart my computer. I have built 7 computers since I started building them and this has never been an issue. I am sure there is a fix but I have searched and not found one.

Thank you.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate

Hi,

This weekend I was on a website and IE suddenly went blank and a windows dialog box will pop up with "You must press yes to continue". I pressed yes once and I was asked to download a file whose name I failed to write down (like an idiot) but I wrote down the website address: 209.190.5.106. I clicked cancel, closed Internet Explorer and did "all the right things". I ran AVGFree. It found 8 infected files. 7 were "Java/ByteVerify" and the other was "Trojandownloader.Generic.SSX". AVG was unable to clean or remove because the files were "Archived". I looked at the location of the files and all were in the Temporary Internet Files, so I ran "Disk Cleaner", then explored and wiped out what disk cleaner missed.

I ran AVG again and I was clear. I thought I was good. Then yesterday, the same thing happened. I did NOT click yes. I closed IE, ran AVG (10 files this time). Then, because AVG doesn't have a very good virus descriptions page, I looked "ByteVerify" up on Symantec's website. And what Symantec described for this virus sounds nothing like what I am experiencing. Just as a precaution, I downloaded all the critical updates for my computer (only 2 I didn't already have). I deleted ALL the temp folders, ran MSConfig to check my start-up files, etc. When I re-ran AVG again I was all clear.

Except that today it happened again. I didn't get the "You must press Yes to cont... Read more

I was defragmenting my drive with Perfect Disk 8 when I got a blue screen. I followed some Microsoft troubleshooting tips, and it told me to run the disk error checking utitlity on My Computer>C:\ Drive (right click)/Properties/Tools/Error checking. So I did an error check. The problem was that it got stuck at 46% at Step 4/5. I restarted my computer and when it said 'Press any key to stop error checking' I pressed any key, but it didn't stop error checking. I tried this about 10 times. Same result. Then I entered BIOS Setup utility and selected 'Load Optimal Defaults' and saved changes and restarted. Then, I got an error that said NTLDR is missing please restart. So I found a solution on this site, which told me to use the XP bootable disk. When it says 'Press any key to boot disk' I press any key, and guess what? Nothing happens! It loads Windows XP bootscreen then, it goes to the disk checking which I scheduled (which I still freezes at 46% and can't be aborted)I have tried 3 different keyboards. Please help!System Specs... Answer:press F1 to continue boot

Have you fitted the NEW DVD drive you were mentioning on a previous thread.
Did the problem exist before or if you have fitted it only since then.
If you have fitted it is the drive working OK.

Check when you do get a boot the time and date displayed on the lower right corner of the desktop, especially after the computer has been off overnight.
It can be caused by a flat CMOS battery
Also check the boot device priority in BIOS.

If for instance you have the first boot device set for a floppy drive, but the computer does not have a floppy drive, that can cause it OR is the boot priority set for a CD drive that is NOT present

So for boot priority set DVD first
the HDD with Windows - if you have more than one hard drive as second
USB third if an option and if it is available also set - check other boot devices.

My CPU fan is acting funny., BIOS shows that it runs between 90-250rpm and 150rpm on an average,. I've removed it, cleaned all the dust and replaced and it worked fine at 1500rpm for about say 15mins., I started a game for stress test and problem resurfaced in the middle of game. Video card is problem free absolutely. I get this "CPU fan error Press F1 to resume" everytime i boot up. CPU is overheating (temperatures raising upto 85 degrees). I use a 4pin connector for cpu fan port on the board. (Q-fan is disabled in BIOS, turning it ON also dint help me).

PC Specs
Asus M2N MX SE PLUS
AMD Athlon X2 64 4600+
Transcend 2GB DDR2
ATI Radeon HD 4670 512MB
Cooler Master 390W PSU
Seagate 250GB SATA HDD
BIOS AMI v602

Games are lagging as soon as the CPU temperature hits 59C. Fan speed gets low starting at this point. Once this temperature reaches 69C, rpm falls down to as low as 200 from usual 1500. I checked all the connections, everything is fine. This board is replacement one i got last yr from asus service center. So its around 1-2yrs old. This is not the usual false warning which can be turned off in BIOS. I've checked fan speed myself and its rotating/stopping/rotating/stopping for temperatures >59C and once CPU cools down to some 58C rpm is back at 1500. I dint get a reply from asus tech support yet. I did try resetting the BIOS but that dint help

If someone completely understood where the problem lies, please do help me

Thanks

Answer:CPU fan error! Press F1 to continue

Your fan speed should be over 2000rpm and you cpu around 40c.
I suggest getting a new heatsink the old one maybe failing.
Make sure you use the correct amount of thermal paste when reinstalling.

Perhaps its a bad installation media. Try create an alternative with a 4GB USB thumb-drive instead:

1. Download the appropriate ISO here
2. Write it to the USB thumb drive using this

Upon booting, I get a warning, "System fan faliure ... Press F2 to continue". First time pressing F2 resulted in a hang. Booting a second time and pressing F2 was successful in booting to Windows. The system fan is making bad sounds. Where are some good places to buy a replacement system fan for an HPE-180T desktop? I saw one on ebay, but it's unclear if it is actually new What are some equivalent fans that might be more reliable ? What are the specs for the HPE-180T system fan? I looked at the info available on this site, but it does not detail system fan info. Also, I didn't see a link to buy replace HP parts. What is the HP parts buy link?

I have a problem with my satellite A60.
I have had the computer for about a year and a half and have never had any serious problems with it of any kind. However last week the keyboard started to fail, first with only a few keys out, then the full keyboard.

This never bothered me much because I am quite familiar with Toshiba computers. So I plugged in an external keyboard and I was back in business.

I used it fine up until now but I put the computer into hibernate last night and when I got up this morning it says "resume failure and press any key to continue".
I press keys and nothing happens, it just stays at that screen. I try to access BIOS by pressing esc when I turn the computer on and priority is set to BOOT not RESUME, hover it wont let me highlight it to change it anyways. The computer wont let me boot from cd. Basically its just stuck at that screen and thats it.

I am wondering if there is another way around this or is my computer finished for good. I was running linux fedora the time of the crash.

Answer:Satellite A60 Resume failure and press any key to continue

Sounds tricky but it?s not unresolvable..
This sounds strong like a hardware issue, but I will not say it for sure.

That keyboardthing can be a defective keyboardcontroller, because your error description is describing a similar case which I had with my machine.
I send the machine to my local servicepartner and they exchanged my mainboard and the keyboard and after the repair the error, I had, never bothered me again.

Just a little question: does some fluids come on your keyboard?

nice weekend

Hi
I have an Equium A60 that is coming up with "Resume Failure and Press any key to continue" when I turn it on. This occoured after the battery ran out and it shutdown. Pressing any key does nothing.

I can get into the BIOS if I am quick before the message comes up, and it is set to Boot Mode, not Resume. I have tried resetting defaults, removing Hard Drives and booting from other devices, but it doesnt seem to get that far, so I canot perform a BIOS update either.
Ive had the machine apart looking for a battery I can remove or a reset button I can press, but I wasnt able to find anything.

Is there anything I can do, or is it totally dead for good?

Please help me! Its a second hand laptop, but I have only had it a week! ;)

Simon

Answer:Equium A60 - Resume Failure and press any key to continue

Hi

Could you please check if the HDD was recognized in the BIOS!
If it war recognized you should try to install a new OS.
Boot from the CD by pressing the C button immediately after notebook starting.

You could also try this:
Just remove the HDD slot cover unplugged the HDD and plug it back, turn on the laptop.
If the same message will appear just press the space bar and check if the OS will boot from the HDD.

Hi

Every time my laptop goes to sleep doesn't wake up until I push power button twice. First to shut down and second to go on then I get this message:
Warning: Resume failure
press any key to continue

Please need help to solve this problem
Thanks

Answer:Satellite A50 - Resume failure, press any key to continue

Usually bad drivers or a flat battery causes resume failure.

You could try a System Restore back to a date when Resume was working properly, and update the drivers for your USB Devices.

If thats no help, then maybe its time to backup your data and run Recovery from your Recovery Discs. Its good to do this once a year anyway to keep the system fresh and error free. Windows tends to become slow and errornous over time, due to power looses, viruses, badly written software etc..

Hi,

I'm having a problem with the HDD (or other component) on a computer, and I'm wondering if anyone would be able to assist me. So, my friend's computer would no longer start up, and he asked me if I could fix it, as I fix computers often, and build my own, etc, so I said sure. When I first got the PC and tried finding the problem, I decided it was the HDD, as the HDD had the "click of death", and was not working or showing in the BIOS. I also put my own HDD in his computer and took it all the way to the "choose partition to install Windows" portion of the Windows 7 set-up, and all seemed fine, but as I had data on the drive I stopped there.

So he ordered a new HDD, as I told him that's the part he needed, and it just got here the other day, and upon installing it, the computer would not recognize it, and was giving me the "Primary Hard Disk Failure, Press F1 to Continue", so I took the drive out of his PC, put it on my main PC as a slave drive, and then ran chkdsk, which turned up no errors. After that I decided to try a different SATA cable, in a different SATA port, and it finally started up fine, and went through the Windows 7 install, but not without problems.

During the first try installing Windows 7, when it got to the point where it needed to restart the computer, it did, but when it came back on, nothing displayed on the monitor, but the computer was running, so I had to hold the power button for a Hard Shut Dow... Read more

Answer:Primary Hard Disk Failure, Press F1 to Continue...

The SATA ports should be backward-compatible, but they are not always. It is a matter of the board sensing the correct drive and adjusting the speed. Some boards don't do the sensing well with some drives and the jumper needs to be used to set the speed manually. If data is requested faster than the drive can supply it, you get corrupted data that looks to the machine just like read errors.

Recently I decided to try out linux mint. I created a live cd and installed mint as a dual boot with Windows XP Home Edition SP3 on a single hard drive. After installing mint every time I boot up the computer I got the message “boot failure press any key to continue” pressing a key just makes the message repeat. If I reboot and press f12 “BOOT PXE” I could get into the GRUB boot screen and choose what OS I would like to use. After being unable to fix the boot failure problem I deleted the mint partition and merged it with the XP partition.
I still get the “boot failure press any key to continue”screen and I am still able to use f12 to get into xp-it now goes to the welcome screen from whence I am able to access XP-which works fine. I have used the windows install cd recovery console fixmbr, fixboot, chkdsk /p /r and am unable to fix the boot. I have all of the data from the hard drive backed up, however I would rather not do a reinstall. Does any one have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thank you in advance.

Have you checked out the boot.ini file? I don't have any experience with dual booting with Linux, but with different Window OS's you can adjust it there. It might be Window's doesn't like Linux at all and they just don't want to get along.

Intel DG965WH
intel dual core 2.1 ghtz
ddr 5 video card
2 hd's 40gb and 500gb

win7 ultimate

After the bios screen I get the following message:

Problem with hard drive, press enter to continue

I press enter and windows boots and both hard drives work flawlessly. If I disconnect the 5oogb the error no longer appears and if I try disconnecting the 40gb hd and boot the 500gb by itself the error re-appears, so I think we can safely say the problem lies with the 500gb hd...

But the hd works fine. I have tested it with the seagate tool and after a long scan the drive passes. This also happens with the western digital diagnosis tool, again using the long scan. However, the SMART status states that the hd has failed??

This is my stepsons PC and he says he has had this message since he installed the 500gb hd and he chose to ignore it. This message he has been getting for about 15 months!

At first I thought it might have been a psu problem as he only had a 250w psu and a 20 pin connector going to the mobo. But I have replaced the psu with a 400 watt and I still get the message:

Problem with hard drive, press enter to continue

Now I'm stuck - the HD passes these tests should he just run the hd till it dies? Is there anything wrong with it (how can I be sure?)

Your help is much needed here - i've ran out of ideas

thanks in advance!

Answer:Problem with hard drive, press enter to continue - plz help!!

1: Typically, this is a drive failing error. Back up your data.

2: Another possible, but possibly too late solution would be to reboot, tap f8 as it starts and choose "last known good configuration".

3: Finally, you can use System Restore and restore the PC back to before this error started.

If the last 2 steps fail, see step 1. Buy another drive that's the same and migrate to the new drive and get ahead of it.

I need some help. I just finished building this machine and I'm getting this error each time I start up. Let me give you my current config:

ASUS P5K-E WiFi-AP
160GB ATA/100 Maxtor (OS is loaded on this drive WinXP Home SP2)
160GB S-ATA WD
DVD-RW S-ATA Pioneer
CDRW IDE
1GB DDR2 533 x2

Preface:

This MBO has 6 S-ATA connectors on it for setting up a RAID0, 1, 5, or 10. The MBO manual states; "when using the connectors in standard IDE mode, connect the primary (boot) hard disk drive to the SATA 1/2/5 Connector. Refer to the table below for the recommended SATA hard disk drive connections."

The table reads as follows; Connector SATA1/2/5/6, color; Red, Setting; Master, Use; Boot Disk. Connector; SATA3/4, color; Black, Setting; Slave, Use; data disk

My Setup:

I currently have the BIOS set so the SATA connectors are in IDE mode. (I tried to set them in SATA mode under this config and that started a whole other set of issues. I put it back to IDE)

The two SATA devices I'm using are connected to SATA3/4. I connected this way because my thought is that neither one of these drives are the Boot drive and if your not a boot drive your a slave. (this could be where the issue is)

The following 2 drives are connected via the IDE connector on the MBO.

The 160GB ATA/100 Maxtor has the OS loaded on it and the jumper is set to Master. It is connnected to the primary/black IDE connector. In the BIOS I have this drive set as number 2 in the boot priority.

The IDE CDR... Read more

Hello, Just got a new Lenovo Helix on Friday. Last night after starting the maching I received this error: Keyboard Dock Fan Error Press Esc to continue I updated the Helix BIOS version as per this post: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/Helix-keyboard-stopped-working-or-fan-e... The problem is that I cannot implement this firmware update: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035554 Without getting this message: This tool and EC firmware mismatch, or communications error is happened. I have tried the re-set button and it doesn't do anything. They keyboard dock is dead for all intents and purposes. No power no nothing. The tablet portion seems to be working fine but no input from the keyboard at all. No little red light on the "Thinkpad" logo. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Is the battery for the keyboard dead? I keep thinking that I get the second error message because the tablet cannot connect to the keyboard becasue there is no power. I've called Lenovo help but I'm at work and they took too long to even get to the problem...I had to get back to work. They just recommended performing a system update. Did I just get a dud keyboard? I didn't want to have to go to the trouble of returning this as I had it set up exactly how I wanted it (software, etc.) and I ordered it online. Can anybody help with this?

When I go to turn my computer on there's a black screen with a blue notification box that says"The selected boot device failed.press enter to continue"

Answer:The selected boot device failed.press enter to continue

Hello @Prburt0809 Welcome to the HP Support forum. The issue appears most likely due to incorrect BIOS settings re. Secure Boot and Legacy Mode. Please, perform some basic hardware checks 1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button2. Power it on.2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).This should open a HP Startup Menu which may look similar to this one 3. Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test. This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1 If there are no system checks/no quick tests, perform HDD and RAM check. Let me know the test results. 4. Repeat steps 1-2 above but when HP Startup menu opens, please choose F10 for BIOS setup options.Navigate the BIOS and find the option to reset to default/load default settings. Do so and eventually exit the BIOS exiting the settings. This should enable Secure Boot and disable Legacy mode settings. Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. I'd like to help you solve your issue but I need some clarifications: So i had a disc error and had to switch out my hard drive So, you had faulty HDD (disk) - what you mean you switched it - 1) you did install a brand new HDD - empty oneor2) you you took the HDD from another PC and placed it in this machine ? What you describe above sound like second scenario... but I need clarification. In all cases, it's best to use HP Recovery media to restore the computer to factory default condition. Looking forward to your confirmation and I will provide you with next steps.

Problem is, it doesnt work. On the boot screen it gives me the message invalid system disk. replace disk and press any key to continue and then when i press any key, it boots into my hard drive/Windows 8.

Originally i thought something was wrong with the boot but now i think it may or may not be. All help is highly appreciated.

Answer:Unable to boot, invalid system disk. replace disk and press any key to continue

Few, if any, downloadable copies of WinXP are legal. The 'Invalid System Disk' error message is the tip off.

You'll need to buy a copy from an authorized source. There is no way to trick the system into recognizing an illegal copy of Windows.

Hello All,
A friend of mine gave me a few computers- because his office was upgrading all of their systems-
I reformatted many of them and installed windows me (they are too slow to support xp), but I am having a problem with one.
Originally it had windows 2000 pro as the os( I didn't have the password to log-into the computer) So I ran fdisk, formatted the hard drive, then tried to install the new os but I keep getting the error message upon booting that "invalid system disk, remove then press any key to continue".
I thought the cd-rom was bad so I replaced it, I changed the boot sequence, used a floppy to boot, even got the hard drive manufacturer's utility program to prep the drive for the os but even that doesn't work.
Am I missing something?
Does the fact that I didn't have the password to enter the computer have anything to do with this?
I used this same method for installing me on all the other systems and they are fine, but this one is an issue.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Recently, after unplugging my system from its power source (removing power cable from the power supply) and then later reconnecting the power source, the machine will not boot unless a Vista system disc is in the drive upon boot, mind you, not booting from the disc, just having it in the tray and booting to the OS harddrive. If the disc is not present at startup the machine displays the following error message:

DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE.

If I insert the disc after this is displayed, the machine hangs and does nothing. If I restart my system after inserting the disc, the machine boots as normal.

Attempted fixes:

bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd, /fixboot

Operations complete successfully but they do not fix the problem. These actions were attempted primarily as a shot in the dark. Typically I have encountered this issue when the molex connector or other cabling is loose on the OS HDD, but that is obviously not the issue, since I am posting this from the machine.

OS is currently installed on an IDE drive, set as master on the primary IDE channel.

Any suggestions would be appreciated to save my the extra step in order to boot.

That error is coming from BIOS, it means there is something wrong detecting the mSATA SSD. It could point to a hardware problem. It is definitely not a software problem. I would call the support line in your country, and ask what they recommend about it.

Whenever I pop in the Windows CD to try and repair or re-install, I get an error that states "Disk Boot Sector is to be modified! Press Y to continue, any key to abort" and once I do, it seems like the Windows options are about to come up, but then it just shuts down my computer. Any thoughts or possible fixes? I'm not sure of the correct location for this thread so I put it here. Thanks in advance!

Answer:ERROR: "Disk Boot Sector is to be modified! Press Y to continue" then crash?

I'd try a bootable hard drive diagnostic that's available from the support website of the manufacturer of your hard drive. That'll let you know if the hard drive is failing and we can move on from there.

I have a Dell GX260 low body and a regular GX260 desktop system, when they boot up, they will display "press F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup". I know this means that it is not reconizing in one form or another the HD. But, what I do not understand, the HD is reconized in BIOS. I have even installed a new HD with the same situation. At other times, system will boot into XP Pro and work fine until a restart, then it goes back to the F1 or F2 thing. We build several computers each week installing the OS XP Pro. We have taken all the parts out of the computers and reseated them. We have even went as far as to switch some parts out of another identical pc. I have even had a Dell Dimension E310 do the same thing. When we contacted Dell, they said it is the MB. What was even stranger was the one that had been sitting the longest, I tossed the original HD back into to see if I could check the name of the computer, it booted into Windows perfectly. I do not see how the motherboard could work now and not later and then start working again.

This is starting to be a really big issue and taking way to much of our time. If anyone can shed any light on this, I would appreciate it.

Answer:PC comes up "press F1 to continue or F2 to enter setup"

It is in fact the motherboard. I have had this happen many times with the same model you are talking about. It is a problem with the IDE controller on the motherboard. So thats why you need to replace the motherboard.

I am not sure if a PCI IDE controller would work if you cant replace the motherboard but it might be worth a shot. I always just replace the motherboard.

Like the title is asking,is there a way to remove or disable that prompt at system startup? And if so,will it shave off that 2 or 3 seconds from boot time?Any hints?

Answer:removing "press any key to continue"?

When do you get this message. It usually only occurs when you want to boot from CD.

Hello, I'm writing a batch script on windows, where i'm performing the following:call abc.execall def.exeAfter it runs the abc.exe, i get a message "Press any key to continue", and only after the key is pressed, it executes the def.exe.How do i get rid of the "Press any key to continue" after abc.exe?Regards,Milind

Answer:How do i get rid of the "Press any key to continue..." on Windows 7

The "Press any key to continue" message is generated by a pause statement in batch. You don't have one, so I'm thinking the abc program is putting out the message. You might try piping a key into the abc program:Code: [Select]echo. | abc
def
No guarantees, but stranger things have worked!FWIW: call is used to tranfer control to other batch files with the expectation of returning to the original batch file (the caller). It's not necessary when running exe files.

I am using a wired usb keyboard (Not wireless), but do i need one of those older keyboard attachments thingy's? Or is that unrelated?

Answer:Windows xp Home wont continue w/ install - f8 to continue!!!

Press the "F Lock" button on the keyboard.

BIOs on startup - press DEL to run setup, press Tab to view post whit the Full screen logo PK5-SE...

I have this system for 3 years and never have that start up screen LIKE THIS BEFORE before.I do not know why it is like that now.

I want to Dsiable DEL message, Disabled ForceBIOS and Disabled Full screen logo and get back to what it use to be before.

If somebody know about this please advise.

Thank you

Answer:BIOs on startup - press DEL to run setup, press Tab to view post

Go into your BIOS and check your boot devices. You should be booting to Disk HDD 0.

I would go back into your tower. Reseat the RAM sticks and check all the cables, especially to your HD and make sure none got dislodged.

If still having a problem, try plugging in a different keyboard and booting. Crazy I know, but I actually had someone with this type of problem and the reason why it boot to BIOS was that the keyboard was failing or had failed.

If still having problems, try removing a stick of RAM and rebooting. If it reboots without issue, there is your problem.

You may need a new battery for the CMOS.

Hello,

When the computer starts up it says 'press DEL to run setup, press TAB to view POST'. Second half may be incorrect.

This was caused by my brother trying to reset the bios to its defaults. He was fiddling with it trying to make something work and wanted to undo his actions.

I am pretty sure that this can be fixed in the Boot Settings Configuration but I wanted confirmation before doing anything.

There is a settings called. Hit 'DEL' Message Display - This is set to enabled. Am I right in thinking I can disable this and the computer will run the post screen and boot?

There is another option called

AddON ROM Display Mode set to Force BIOS. I don't know what this is or if it is important.

I don't want to mess anything up or loose access to BIOS without the system booting so advice is much appreciated.

Answer:BIOs on startup - press DEL to run setup, press Tab to view post

Solved.

Dsiable DEL message, Disabled ForceBIOS and Disabled Full screen logo.

Answer:No boot device available press f1 to retry press f2 for support?

It appears there is a problem with the hard drive. It's probably dead or dying. If you have data on it that you want to save, you could place it in a USB external enclosure or an inexpensive docking station (if a SATA hard drive) and try to access the files with another PC.

Press Hacking The Press At Hacker Conference?

A couple French journalist got themselves booted from the Black Hat convention for hacking the media?s private network set up at the event. Real smart.

The network was working properly, but it wasn't set up to shield each journalist's computer from one another. The French journalists ? identified by organizers as Dominique Jouniot, Marc Brami, Mauro Israel ? apparently set up their own server to siphon off traffic passing through the media room's central router.

Greetings,After a few months with my March 2008-build Y510, I began having this keyboard problem: when I type the letter "g", I see "g5". Letter "h" becomes "h6" as well as problems with a few other keys. This problem occurs when I enter these letters in certain places such as an internet search bar or MS Word. The problem goes away when I type, say, "as" preceding those letters. Unfortunately, it's hard to define the exact conditions when this happens. For example, I don't see this problem when entering a username or password. These symptoms indicate it's not a keypad short and that it can be fixed temporarily with specific key sequences. I've seen this problem posted online with other laptops, but the limited suggestions did not fix this problem. I did the Novo recovery process for the C: drive, but the problem persists. Any other suggestions before I ship the laptop back? Thanks!

Answer:Y510 key problem - press g, gets g5, press h, gets h6

No suggestions. It's faulty keyboard and ou have to send it to Lenovo... My condolences.

I have already tried the EASE ACCESS option but could'nt find to stop this Short Cuts as these keys are well working in My virtual machine , Can any one suggest the answer of it.

Answer:Keyboard shorcuts opens, when i press R it opens the RUN Command window & when i press E it opens the My computer , How should i remove these shorcuts. When i use these keys in my Virtual machine it works fine, Kindly guide me in this issue

Hi ABDUL WASI,
Thanks for the post!
It seems the shortcut keys are messed up. Did you get this issue before?
By default, Win+R is used to open Run command, and Win+E for opening Computer. It seems these shortcut keys are changed. Now, if you press Win+R or Win+E, which windows will show?
If you figure out which application used this two shortcuts keys. Right-click the application, choose Properties - Shortcut Tab, what's behind the Shortcut key box? Change it with another shortcuts key.
Also fully scan your computer, and if you have a backup, a system restore could help you come back to a nearlier time.

So, I'm using a burnt CD-R of windows XP w/ SP 2 I downloaded from MSDNAA. This is actually the second copy burnt from the same iso. I'm running Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon, so that's on the MBR, and there is about 50 gigs of unpartitioned space sitting on the primary hard drive. My combo drive is IDE, my hard drive is SATA, and my motherboard uses the P35 chipset.

Now, to the actual problem. I pop in the disk, set the first boot device to be the optical drive, it gets to the "Press any key to boot from CD...." message. I press a key. Nothing happens. A few details on what exactly "nothing" is: In contrast to when you don't press any key, no more trailing .'s occur. However, the cursor keeps blinking, so the system is totally hung. But there are no noises, nothing new pops up on the screen, etc. Nothing happens.

I'm thinking the ISO may be bad (though I did directly download it from microsoft), but I've also heard of people unable to install specific versions of windows from not being able to boot from the CD under similar conditions.
Anyway, any help you could provide would be very much appreciated.

Answer:"Press Any Key To Boot From CD" Hangs when I press a key

How did you manage a direct download from MSDN of XP?

Question: cannot continue

I just spent over 1/2 hour setting up my information and went to preview it to post and was THEN told I was not logged in and my whole post disappeared. I tried going back to that page so I could save it to a clipboard but nothing on your site took me back.

I have a major problem with 2 computers and some really bad bug ...or worm or virus or bot or whatever and right now I don't have the energy to start over. Was too excited about actually finding help by joining a forum but no warning on my posting beforehand. Good luck to other new members. Maybe they will have better luck than what happened to my post. After fighting this problem since March, I cannot start over with a post.

I'm not previewing this one so maybe it will post, although I wish I could go back to my original new posting that I was done with but it vanished cause even though I activated and was welcomed..apparently I was not "logged in" and my post was sent to neverneverland and it is too involved and complicated to start from scratch at this time. You do need a warning or a way to save it to the clipboard before erasing it.

Sorry to be upset but this bug has consumed too much of my life and is ruining my computer accesses.

Answer:cannot continue

You cannot even start a post if you're not logged in. As soon as you click on the "New" button you will get a prompt to either register if you're not a member or log in if you have already registered so I don't know what happened. There is nothing on the site that takes you back to a previous screen, you are right, that is done by your own browser. It's possible the cookie was blocked or something related to one of your security programs, that's all I can think of.

But if you've run the scans that are require then you should still have the logs so you just need to post them along with a very brief description of the problem.

Question: Continue using XP?

flavallee said:

When Microsoft stops providing security updates for Windows XP in April 2014, it will be a 12-1/2 year old operating system.

Some people who have been using Windows XP for that long and aren't computer-knowledgeable will find it difficult to switch to Windows 7 and may decide to stick with Windows XP for as long as possible.

Many of the elderly users whose computers I work on feel this way.Click to expand...

For a personal home computer, connected to the internet, is this safe? I've heard "Yes people hack personal computers all the time constantly!" and "No, hackers don't target individual personal computers."

I use AVG for my virus protection plus No Script, and only occasionally download images, rarely docs or pdfs, almost never videos or programs other than software updates.

I want to avoid switching as long as possible because I have a neurological difficulty with adapting to new UIs, it is extremely difficult and frustrating for me. The Windows version of Word 2007's UI, for example, has almost entirely stumped me every time I try to use it, and I'm quite proficient with Word 2003. I use my XP system on the "Classic" (95/98) UI because the XP UI was so difficult for me to use.

I'm even considering switching to Mac if I have to get a new computer anyway, considering that their UI is somewhat similar to Windows -- maybe more similar than Windows 8? Depending on how soon Windows 7 is g... Read more

Hi. My computer has been infected. I ran several malware and adware cleaning programs (malware bytes, kaspersky, adware cleaner, zemana, windows defender ( i managed to get in back on) and hitman pro. ) as per your website instructions. It has detected the malwares and adwares and cleaned them . However , when i tried using it again, i still get ads popping out from website like toronto.public.library.com and some other random website. Also , it seems that when i try to play games (steam games) - blade and soul , it seems that ads ( or something )are popping out whenever i right click on my mouse ,but gets blocked immediately. It doesnt affect my gaming , but it bothers me quite a bit to have " that weird thing (maybe ads) that pops and gets blocked immediately ( there is no indication that its an ad that got blocked since there isnt any warning , just my guess) . Any way that you could help me?
