Problem with USB-headset(Can't switch between headset and speakers without rebooting)

Question: Problem with USB-headset(Can't switch between headset and speakers without rebooting)

Hey,

the topic pretty much says it. I bought myself a new headset(C-media headphone set or something) which uses a USB-port instead of an original sound-port-thing. The problem is, whenever I plug the headset in the USB-port pretty much nothing happens and I can't get the sound in the headset, it just stays in the speakers...

It used to be no problem when I used a headset with the sound-port on the motherboard to just change it. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might do? :(

edit: forgot to say that it works just fine after rebooting the computer.

Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Problem with USB-headset(Can't switch between headset and speakers without rebooting)

Hi Foonksh,

Try going into the Control Panel and go into Sounds and Audio Devices. From there you can pick the default device for recording and for playback. In the playback section, set the headset as the default device instead of your speakers.

WinXP Pro SP2
For some unknown reason it has quit changing from sending sound to the speakers to sending it to USB when I plug my USB headset in. Or vica versa when I unplug the headset.

I had this once before and the only solution that worked was to boot into safe mode and select "Open last configuration that worked". However, this time it did not fix the problem.

I have checked the obvious like making sure that nothing was set to mute, or making sure that the headset was working by doing the sound and microphone check.I don't know what to do next.

Any help please?

Initially i looked up a way to use both Speakers and a headset at the same time without having to unplug and plug them in each time i wanted to switch. The first and quite popular answer i got was to use some sort of Y connector.

After searching some more i was able to find another answer which was to put in the speakers into the Green jack and put the headset into the Orange jack (for audio with mic in pink ofc).

This worked brilliantly.

Problem now is that, it is not working for me anymore, kinda...

So the speakers in the green jack work but the headset audio wont work at the same time..... BUT i downloaded Realtek HD Audio Manager just to try and fiddle with stuff (not that good with settings and advanced user stuff but thought id mess around with some simple things), and i found out that when i did the AUTO TEST, i was able to hear through my headset ... but JUST for the test and for no other time.

Firstly let me say that i have upgraded to Windows 7 64bit and added 4 Gb of RAM (total of 6now). Hopefully that might help.

So is it possible that anyone might no a solution? I will try and provide more information if necc. if asked. Thanks for the time and effort.

Answer:Problem with Speakers/Headset

Sorry for the Double post but this is a slightly major update for me :

Playing more with the Realtek HD audio settings, i checked the Disable Front Panel detection (fine because i dont use anything there (doesnt work i dont think)). After this i was able to hear out of the headset but it was verryy soft.

Next i went and checked Speaker Fill... Immediately i could hear normally out of my headset but only out of 1 "ear." Checking the settings it seemed that the Orange port was for the Center/Subwoofer speakers and the left "ear" corresponded to the Center Speaker while the Right was for the Subwoofer. If i ticked the Swap Center / Subwoofer Output it does just that and both ears swap so i can hear perfectly out of the right (Subwoofer) but not the left.

Amused and happy with the progression i tried plugging the headset into the Black jack (Rear Speakers). For this one the left rear was the left ear and right was right.

Tried it and for the Auto Test it worked perfectly but when i went to normal music/audio the sound WOULD come out of both sides BUT it would be heavily distorted. (Same problem with trying the Side speaker jack (Grey)).

So 2 ways to progress now would be to fix the distortion or to enable the Center/Subwoofer to work simultaneously or something like that (possible to compl. Disable the Center OR Subwoofer so audio comes to both ears?).

Thanks for all the help and hopefully we can solve it fully!

Ok try this leave the speakers in the greeb port take the headphones cables and plug them up to red port.
Most new Realtek audio sound cards don't 2 devices in one port not unless you have a splitter.

Hello..

I have a hp laptop, and i have a problem when im using my headset.

I can use the headset for music and gaming, but the problem is that when, for example, im running Teamspeak and playing CS:GO, the sound from the game comes from my laptop speakers, i find this very annoying since i want to be able to get all the sound through my headset, i've had this problem for a while and nobody knows what i can do about it.

It's the same problem when i use my headset for skype calls, and i want to listen to music or watching a youtube video at the same time, the skype sound comes from my headset and all other sound, music for example comes from my laptop speakers.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Sorry for my english btw

Answer:Problem with speakers and headset..

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Go to the Playback settings by right clicking the speaker icon in the bottom right. Then make sure your headset is set to the default playback device.

OS: Windows 7 Pro (64)
MoBo: EVGA e762 4-Way SLI
Headset: Roccat Kave (analog 5.1, not USB) - Rear plug
Speakers: Generic analog 2.0 stereo - Front panel plug

Situation:
Before I upgraded my situation, I was using regular 2.0 stereo headset and the same speakers I have now, only before, the plugs were reversed. I had the speakers plugged in the back, directly to the motherboard, and I had the headset plugged into the front. I always disable "front panel detection" (or whatever that option was called) because I don't want my speakers to Mute when I plug in my headset, because I have it plugged in all the time.

I use my PC mostly for gaming, but also watching videos. When I have the gf over, we like to watch things together. This was not a problem before. I would simply turn the volume nob down on the speakers, put on the headset, and launch ventrilo / teamspeak + game, or take the headset off, hang it on a hook on the wall, and turn the speakers back up when I wanted to do something else. It's also nice, when the ears get tired, to just hang the headset around your neck and turn the speakers up when you still need to be somewhat active on vent/ts but don't want to use them right now.

Problem:
Nothing is coming out of my speakers. Or at least, nothing useful. It seems as though the sound option in Windows that determines whether or not you are in 5.1 or 2.0 is a hierarc... Read more

Hello

So three days ago I wiped all of my drives and installed Windows 10. I have a Corsair Vengenace 2100 headset. I installed the realtek drivers from ASUS download section for my motherboard and then I installed the headset drivers.

The problem is that my headset does not record anything through the microphone if I set it to be the default device for audio output. If I have my other computer speakers as the default output device my microphone works just fine.

This goes for all the USBs in the back of the motherboard. The headset works just great if I plug in the wireless reciever in the front of the computer.

I have tried to reinstall the drivers multiple times and checked a bunch of different settings in the sound manager in windows but nothing seems to work.

Have also googled all kinds of things but nothing seems to relate to my problem.

I do not have any external sound card plugged into my computer.

Thanks for any help provided!

EDIT: Can be closed as I found the win 10 forum after I made the thread. Sorry!

Hi iBSOADed and welcome to TenForums,

First of all, you shouldn't have had to worry about installing any drivers after installing Windows 10 as Windows should do that automatically.

Have you tried using the Corsair Gaming Headset Setup program in the Downloads section of this page? Vengeance® 2100 Dolby 7.1 Wireless Gaming Headset

Answer:Installed new USB Headset NOW no speaker audio even if I unplug the headset

Yeah, my USB headset was a little weird at first as well.

Try going into your volume control (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control):
1. Click Options
2. Properties
3. Change the mixer device from the USB headset to your speakers.

Should work.

Also should note you can change the output settings in most audio software (for example: Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.) so if you can't hear anything from your speakers when using those programs, try fiddling with those settings as well. I know for Winamp it's Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > Output > double-click the plug-in you use (mine is out_ds.dll) and again change it to your speakers using the drop down menu.

I can't figure out how to fix this. I noticed that, when I'm watching a video, my headset's mic will relay the audio coming into my headset. Disabling Stereo Mix doesn't fix it. The physical controller that's on my headset cable doesn't stop it from happening, as even if I turn the volume knob all the way down and flick the mute switch, it's still picking up the audio. Muting my headset from within the computer stops the mic from hearing it, as does switching to my speakers that are plugged into the front jack. My headset is a 3.5mm jack type plugged into the back of the computer, directly into the motherboard.

A little more detail needed; are you experiencing a problem after using a headset of some kind?If the socket that you are using - which one? - is designed to over-ride the speaker output, then this behaviour would be normal.

Good Afternoon!

Firstly I need to say I am running ME.

I got a fabulous new headset for Christmas this year ~ Cyber Acoustics USB headset with microphone....They work great; however, I can only use my speakers when I disconnect the headphones...is there a way I can set my computer up to allow me the option to use one or the other without crawling under my desk to disconnect the headphones? (am anxiously awaiting a new computer with front end usb ports...would make life alot easier!)

I would appreciate your input. Thanks!

Answer:Headset vs. Speakers

Try control panel - sounds and audio - Audio tab.

Under the "sound playback" setting, you may be able to manually select which device to use (I can in Windows XP)

Exact wording may differ in ME, have not got it installed to advise.

Hello.

Does anyone know if it is possible to have the speakers on and working, but also have headphones plugged in too?

Basically, I want to set up Teamspeak to run on just the headphones/mic. I know it is possible to choose what device TS comes out of (speakers/headphone/etc.). But I want TS to to be the only thing that runs on the headphones.

In addition to this, I would like my speakers to be working at the same time, with everything but TS running off of them.

For those who know, it's the same setup as the headset on the Xbox 360. It only handles people talking in multiplayer, but the game you are playing still comes from the TV speakers.

Is this possible at all?

I am running Vista Ultimate x64, I have the speakers plugged in the motherboad, and my headphone/mic plugged into the sockets on the front on my PC case.

Answer:Headset/Mic + Speakers Together?

I thought I would take the opportunity to bump this by saying that I have had a look into it, and I think if I buy a headset with a USB adaptor on it, they have a soundcard built into them, so I can plug that into my computer and use that as a 2nd soundcard just for the mic.

With that in mind, I purchased this on Ebuyer.com, I think it should suit my needs.

Morning Chaps, I've received one of those headsets for PC thingies, which works fine - I can now make phone calls via the PC. Thing is though, as I've plugged it into the sound card on the back of the tower, I don't now get the sound(of music for example, no! NOT The Sound Of Music the movie...)through the speakers. So, is there maybe a 'doubler' connector as it's a bit of a pain having to scrabble around behind the tower to disconnect the headset plugs when I wanna listen to music. Ta muchley,AngeTheHippyxx

I would like to hook up a headset with my speakers on my desk top PC.

There are 3 holes on the back, (one pink--I think Mic,) ( One green, I think audio out,) and (one blue- I think audio in.) On the back on the pc.

The headset has two cords on it. One is labeled Mic.

When I was trying to read how to have both my speakers and headset connected, it said I need a Y adapter. I have one.

But now I can't find out how to use the adapter with the mic cords and the plug-in sites on the pc.

I tried just hooking the headset to the front of the unit, but nothing happened. So, I guess I need to hook it up through the rear of the PC.

I no idea what to do.

Answer:Install Speakers and Headset

Hi debo and welcome to the forum

If the headset has two chords, as you say, them mic = pink and the other (speakers) = green
Blue = aux in
Also check the mixer volume control to make sure that the mic is not muted. Sometimes it is.
You were correct as you stated above

Okay, I just did a re-install of Windows XP. I got everything all set up, I had a snag with my sound but I finally got it sorted out. But, now I have a new problem and I can't figure it out.

My speakers, (JBL Creature Speakers) work fine. I have a USB headset. There is a button on my Speakers that when you press it, the sound goes from the speakers to the headset, so if I want to be on Skype or something I can have privacy. However, whenever I press the button, there is no sound on the headset. I've tried looking around control panel and what not, but I can't seem to figure it out.

I'm sorry if that was really bland, or if you need more information, if you do, just post and I'll try to be more detailed.

Thank you.

Answer:Sound through speakers, but not through headset.

Hi Brennen, welcome to TSF.

Are you sure you have installed the software and drivers.
USB devices such as what you describe often need drivers or software for Windows to recognise it, and the features they have - i.e sending sound to headset at the push of a button.

It's common in the OS installs to forget such things, so I'd like you to rule this out first.

Now that I'm on Windows 8, I can't do that anymore: whenever I make another device default, there is no sound.

Is there anything I need tick or change in order to get ability to switch between listening devices again?

Hi there!

I've just finished building my first PC, but I have some sound problems.
I want to have my speaker set as the main audio output, so I've plugged it in the back of the PC, in the audio outlet of the motherboard (Gigabyte G1.Sniper B5). But when I play a game, I want to use my headset, so I plug it in the front of the PC, into the audio outlet of the case itself (CM 690 III).
When I plug in only the headphones or only the speaker set, there is no problem at all. But when I plug in both, things get weird. The audio switches correctly to the headphones, but then stops after a few seconds, and when I take out the headphones plug, the sound doesn't return to the speakers. This happens both in games and on YouTube videos (page refresh doesn't help either). However, the "test this audio device"-sound from Windows does play when I test it, so.. yeah...

Can anyone help me set this up correctly? I would be very grateful!!

Nick

Answer:Headset / speakers conflict

Welcome to the Win 8 forum.

Sounds like a possible problem with the case front panel jacks or cabling. Many cases have two audio plugs for the front panel headphone/mic jacks, an "AC97" and an "HD Audio" connectors. Use the HD Audio Connector.

But, it still sounds like a problem with the front panel jacks or cabling.

I've built several desktop PC's and have had problems with several front panels.

Also, please fill in the "My System Specs". Helps us to try and help you.

Answer:speakers/headset configuration

I'm not sure if that can be done but if it can I would first check each software application for custom settings. Next you may want to check the sound card hardware settings to allow applications to take control of the sound card settings. You can access the sound card setting by right clicking on the speaker icon on the taskbar...all the best,myspace.com/davedeveloper

Have you considered using the swap screen function in Skype? It allows the person you're chatting with to view your computer screen and (I could be wrong) hear its audio.

Basically i want to know what will be best, a decent set of headphones(must have a mic) or some 5.1 speakers. I would probarbly spend about £80(around $105).
I want to know how to spend that money, weather i should spend almost all of it on some nice speakers and then buy a cheapy headset, or spend like £50 on some nice headphones and then £30 on a avarege(probarbly 2.1) speakers? or somewhere in the middle? I could get both but then i would be spending a lot less on the speakers, is a decent 2.1 set or a cheap 5.1 set better?

I will be playing quite a lot of games(mostly what the pc will be built for) and i will also be listening to music frquently, I will also be watching a few movies.

The headsets i was thinking of are the sennheiser 130,135,150 or 155(do any of these sort of close your ear into them rather than sitting on your ear?) Is there any difference between the 0 and 5 models apart from the usb thing?

Where should my money be spent?

Answer:Decent Headset or 5.1 speakers

i would personally buy headphones, because everybody in my house gets ****ed off if my speakers are even quiet. So headphones are better in my case.

If you get some Sennheiser or Sony headphones, they should be good.

Make sure they are the huge ear-muff kind, because the bass is trapped inside your ears, so its better sound.

I'm an X-Lite user... VoIP. I would like to keep my headset plugged in i.e. for communication, and have the ringtone for X-Lite (and any other audio I'd like the whole world to hear) come through the speakers too. In essence have both devices as default (audio coming through both) ^^ seems it would have been simpler to have this as standard i.e. if you only want audio to come through via headset just turn the speakers down/off...

Hi, now I am not too sure if this is the correct section for this to go in as it may fall under hardware too.

I am wanting to be able to use my headset on Skype at the same time as playing music through pc speakers. I have a Sound Blaster X-fi fatal1ty. Now with this soundcard you get a little drive bay, like this http://www.aimcomputer.ca/images/Creative_FiTFC.jpg , as most of you may of seen before.

Anyway I plug my headset into the slots onto that bay and use a usb mic I bought separately as the mic, when using Skype. However I am somehow looking to be able to play music on my computer, at the same time as using Skype, just with the music coming out of my computer speakers and NOT the headset. I have read a couple of dated forums where some people have said it is possible but sadly I couldn?t follow their instructions.

I was hoping that somebody here may be able to shed some light on this issue or possibly come across if themselves so can advise me on what is best to do.

Also, I am running Windows 7 (32bit)

Thanks in advance,

Luke

I just started using Skype today. Got all the settings correct for the headset/mic and all was fine. After Skypeing, I unplugged the headset/mic and plugged my speakers back in and now they won't work.

Then, I went to Skype some more later and I could hardly hear the other person through the headset. I have checked all my settings and they seem correct. But, I get garbled sound from the speakers and low sound from the headset.

Any ideas what's going on?

Well Since FRAPS wont record steam calls, i was going to have everything come threw speakers. As of about one year ago the audio system in my computer was working fine. My speakers were hooked up to my Creative Soundblaster Live Series audio card and they were working properly.

But at that time I decided to buy a headset so I could talk to my friends online through programs such as Ventrilo. Since I also have a Playstation 2, I bought one of the Logitech Playstation 2 Headsets that connect by USB.

I hooked up the headset and after a little playing around (restarts) I got the headset to start working. I used the headset for the new half a year before I realized there was a problem with the computer. Whenever I would unplug the headset, the speakers would not work. I checked everything: changing default devices under the audio and voice settings, checking to make sure the speakers were plugged in properly, restarting the computer without the headset then plugging the speakers in, restoring the audio card's default settings, etc.*

However, after this entire year I have still not managed to get the speakers back and working again. I pondered that the speakers may have died, but I hooked them up to another computer and they work fine.

The reason why I have dealt with this problem is because I had no real reason to get rid of the headset and a computer with speakers was not that big of a hassle. But now I won't be using the computer anymore and the future user will more than likely want the speakers to work. And I do not want to hook the he... Read more

USB headphones = Logitech Clearchat Pro

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/we.../3622&cl=US,EN

Drivers = standard vista usb audio drivers v 6.0.6002.18005

I have spoke to several other vista users with various USB headphones and it seems to be a consistent problem.

The problem is that vista is recognizing my headphones as:
"speakers
4 - logitech USB Headset
working"

This means that when opening the properties, vista only offers the standard 2 speaker enhancements rather then the headphone ones. Also, all applications auto set the audio configuration for 2-speakers rather then headphones. This means it doesnt offer HRTF, as stated from Audio Innovations in Windows Vista - Windows Vista Team Blog - The Windows Blog:
"This function can only be enabled by indicating that the user is listening with headphones, as shown in the following screen shot."

any/all suggestions welcome, and thanks for the input

this has to be the dumbest question ever posted --

we have a new kitten. it's wreaking havoc with my computer cords, i think.

i use a headset with a built-in microphone. i never use my speakers. the cords to the speakers just hung down in lieu of the headset. i'm physically disabled with very little movement. now, my headset-microphone is screwed up. .

yesterday, the unused speakers and cords were removed off of my computer table. now, my headset has no sound whatsoever. the person who was straightening up the table doesn't remember unplugging anything.

i have a dell dimension 2300 pc that included the speakers when i bought it from dell.

do i need those speakers plugged in somewhere in order to use the headset-mic? if so, how?

Would anyone know of a way that I could leave my headset plugged into the computer and toggle the output sound to external speakers or the headset?

The computer itself is in a room where some else might be watching television. Of course, I can find my headset and plug them to keep the sound from coming out of the external speakers, but instead of this constant plug in/out a toggle of some sort would be quicker.

Thanks.

Hello Jim.
Start, Control panel, Hardware and sound Right click on Sound and select make shortcut.

This will put a sound shortcut on your desktop which you can use to select the output device

Here's my problem.

I have speaker that I use for music and a USB headset for games.

I'd like to make it so I can just turn the volume down on one and just use the other for what I desire, instead I have to open my sound settings and switch the default every time.

Any solutions?

Answer:Trying to run a USB headset and Speakers at same time

ok so u want to be able to listen to music through the headset while your speakers are on as well?
theres the problem
your computer has one audio out (which is hooked to your speakers) the reason the usb mic works is when that out is disabled it goes to your next default, your usb port.
so basically sound can only come out of one place at one time from ur comp.
i hope i helped

idc if you use computer jargon because i have my A+ Essentials.

Answer:audio out of both headset/speakers

Check the audio properties first : start => run => mmsys.cpl. Check all the settings there : advanced settings, speakers volume, ... In the playback control tab click options => advanced to have more options.

Have you tried unplugging/replugging your headset and speakers ? Does some program popup when you plug the speakers (soundmax of whatever) ? If so check the settings in that program as well.

Is this on an XP system ? You profile says you have Vista.

With my old headset i used to have a blast recording sounds/music coming out of my comptuer directly using wave out. Often for MSN voice clips and such.

I haven't changed anything, but now that i have this new headset, the only recording i seem to be able to do is voice recording in sound recorder, i can't seem to record wave out mix on sound recorder, and can't record anything whatsoever in msn voice clips.

I can hear voice clips sent to me though, strange thing is, when someone invited me to an audio conversation earlier, i got the annoying ringing noise alright , but i couldn't hear anything.

I checked my volume controls nothing is muted.

I can't seem to get rid of an awful background noise when I have the volume turned up. When I connect the headset to use the mike for internet phoning I have the same problem. When I say I have the volume up, I mean turned on but not playing anything through the speakers.I've gone into the sound system to see if I could adjust it by changing the volume levels etc. but it doesn't seem to work. The only way to stop it is to turn the volume virtually off on the PC (acer laptop)which means you can't hear any sound at all. When you play music the sound is ok, the speakers seem to be set to the correct levelOperating system is Vista and the PC is an Acer aspire 5630.

Turn down the mic gain control as causeing feedback with the speakers and headsetYou will have to adjust the volume control and the mic control untill you get a good mix where you can here and the other party can here youAlso check the options in the sound setting in control panel playback/recording if any mic boost is switch on

I bought a Crystal USB headset yesterday, it came with no directions, no disc, no drivers, there's not even a website listed. A few hours searching online didnt provide much help either.

When I plugged it in Win 7 detected it as USB speakers. Even at 1% volume it is LOUD, I had to wear my earphones on my cheeks! I tried playing with the volume mixer, but even setting other applications at 1 didnt help. Those programs (games, etc) that had additional volume control inside the application were able to turn the volume down enough to use, but any additional sounds (system sounds, etc).

Is there an additional USB driver I havent found for Win7? or is there a way to force the OS to recognize the USB as a headset instead of speakers?

Thanks

I bought a new computer today, and am having a major issue trying to setup my sound so that it functions the same as on my old system. I see a lot of people here who want to be able to play sound through their speakers AND headset, and just mute them individually.

I want to be able to redirect sound, on a per-application basis, to my headset (Logitech ClearChat PC Headset/Mic). For example, in Ventrilo.

The problem I'm having, and I don't know if it's a Win7 problem or a Realtek problem, is that no matter which jack I plug the dang "headphone" connector in to, it's not being recognized as a Headset - just as another speaker.

So on my previous computer, I could set my speakers as my "default device", and have iTunes and browser sounds play through there - and I'd setup Ventrilo so that any Ventrilo sounds were played through my headset. I could do the same with some games, also.

I just can't get it to work on this PC. My headset isn't being detected at *ALL*. It doesn't show up in the "Playback" devices tab, and doesn't show up as a device in the Realtek HD Audio Manager. So sound will play, the jack works, the headset works, Win7 and/or Realtek just aren't recognizing it as a device separate from my speakers.

I've checked-off "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" in my Playback devices tab/listing

I've tried checking/unchecking the Realtek HD Audio Manager's "Disable front panel jack detection... Read more

Answer:Independent Headset/Speakers - Realtek

No idea why your headset isn't working, but if you end up being forced to get something USB, you should know that you can just buy a USB sound card and keep your current headset. If your headphones are nice ones then it's worth it, otherwise you might as well invest in the usb headphones. Keep in mind though that USB Headsets use their own sound cards so you dont want a cheap set.

In terms of something comparable to the Realtek sound card, I think the steel series or turtle beach would be close. If you want something nicer, go for the Sound Blaster, if you want studio sound just get a new sound card.

Hello All,
*Sorry for the long post, I tried to include everything I have tried and seen regarding this issue...

I have a Plantronics USB Headset that I have used many many times on this Windows 7 Guest OS, for things like the Cisco IP Communicator. This has worked just about everytime I have connected it to the Win7 VM without problems until a few weeks ago
(*not sure exactly when or what caused it to start doing this).
Once the USB headset is connected to the VM the speaker Icon in the notification area of the taskbar gets a red X thrown over it, and hovering the mouse over it, it says
"No Output Audio Device is Installed". If I unplug the Headset the red "X" disappears from the speaker icon instantly.. However, sounds through the regular speakers seem to work just fine
(*i.e. sounds from the Win7 VM) whether the headset is connected or not.

If I right click the speaker icon with the X and go to the Playback Devices menu
(*screenshot below), I can see my Speakers and the Headset listed there. Right-clicking the laptop speaker icon and clicking
"Test" successfully tests the speakers and I can hear the sounds from the laptop's speakers. Then, doing the same for the headset does nothing, don't hear anything. Also, ... Read more

Hey all!

I am trying to get my headset (which plugs into the Front-Green-Out) to work along side of my speakers (which plug into my Rear-Green-Out).

Both are being recognised and both work, but not at the same time. That's because in the screen where you manage your Audiodevices you can only have 1 "standarddevice", which it uses to play the audio.

Is there any way to have more than 1 standarddevice? (or another way to make both work at the same time).

EDIT:
By the way, for anyone using the same motherboard as me: Asus is not supporting it anymore =/. I use the P5K-EPU sounddrivers. Also, if you want the front jacks to work you have to set them in the BIOS to AC97, not HD-audio.

Answer:Front headset and speakers at the same time?

I know on mine when I plug into the front panel it disables my rear inputs. I don't think there is a way to do that using the same driver. What I do though is use a sound card for my speakers/monitors and use the onboard for my headset. I have WMP set to my sound card so I can listen to DVD/music through my monitors while gaming through my headset simultaneously. Helps when the Mrs is scrapbooking and wants to listen to music.

Hello!

I was wondering about something.
I just got a new 7.1 Siberia SteelSeries USB headset, that I want to use in parallell with my 5.1 speakers.

The idea is that there is always sound playing in both devices, so that I can just mute the headset when it is not in use.

Now I have to change default device everytime I want to change which devcie is active. This is obviously very inconvinient.

I googled it a bit, but there are so many solutions, so I'm not sure what to do!

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

On my W510, I would like to set the volume on the internal speakers to "mute" while setting a different volume on the headset jack, in windows 7 This is so the laptop will not play any sound when the headset is unplugged, but work normally when headset is plugged in. Normally I can find 2 different audio devices in windows, and control them separately. Does the thinkpad support this?  Do i need special drivers?

I have just installed Vista Home Premium and noticed that I cannot do dynamic switching between headset and speakers.

Previously, my system would play sound normally through the speakers, and if I plugged my headset in, the sound would then play through the headset. If I unplugged the headset, the sound would again play through the speakers.

My motherboard is an asrock a780gxe. It has audio output on the back, which is where I have my speakers plugged in, and another audio output for the front, which is where I plug the headset in.

I have messed with setting the speakers or the headset as the default audio device. I have noticed that if I make the headset the default device, and play a game or MP3, if I unplug the headset, I simply get no sound. If I check the sound device properties, it indicates that the headset is unplugged.

So, I just want to figure out if there is a way to have the system do dynamic audio switching.

Thanks,

Basically, I want to hear music/other stuff through my speakers but talk on Ventrilo and hear other people through my headset.

I have an analog headset that is plugged through the front panel with my speakers through the back panel. Sound card is Realtek and I've tried to mess with the front/back panel settings and switching it up from headset to front/rear speakers etc but it still doesn't work.

Does anyone know how to do this?

PS: I know I should have bought a USB headset but I've already bought an analog one and I don't want to waste money by buying a USB one now, so if there's a way to do it with an analog mic, I'd be really happy to know.

Answer:Splitting sound with speakers/headset

The best you can do in your case is this (screenshot below). Your soundcard being duplex will allow you to play 2 different audio streams "simultaneously" or "together". This means your external speakers will play your "rap music" AND the person you are talking to on Ventrilo at the same time. If you jockey your volume settings you will probably be able to tolerate the confunsion while under the headphones. Of course all others in the room will hear who you are talking to. Not very private. So much for multi-tasking.

No. That is the only way of changing the output.

Incidently, in my attempts to get the headset to work I tried to open my 'Entertainment' folder from " Accessories' for the first time and found out that it was 'empty'! I don't know if these two problems are related?
Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Headset and speakers echo.

I think I solved the problem..... I unchecked all of the 'enhancements'

I have two audio jacks in the back of my computer. I just bought a headset today and no sound is coming through them and I just want to be able to play sound through the speakers and the headset at the same time. I'm using windows 7. Can someone please walk my through the steps and help me with this! Thank you!

Answer:Hooking up my Speakers and Headset at the same time?

Depends on your PC and what audio I/O jacks you have. The GREEN jack is the Speaker (or can be used for headset or line out). If there is a second Speaker/Line out jack you could use that, however most new systems only have extra output jacks for surrond systems and that won't do you any good.

If you have a headphone jack on the front of the PC, and again depending on what you have, some systems have a sound control panel and allow configuring either both the front headphone and rear speaker are both active or the headphone jack cuts off the rear speaker (usually the default mode).

Post some system specs, or better yet fill in the My System Specs so we know what we are dealing with.

Ok, so I bought a nice USB Headset, it works GREAT. But, I would like to be able to use the speakers when I turn the headset off. Is there any option for this in Windows 7?
Everything I've seen so far says that the headphones/headset has to be wired, and then when the computer recognizes that you have unplugged it, then it will switch to the speakers.
Thanks in advance guys.

Answer:[SOLVED] Switching from USB Headset to speakers

Why would you want to leave the headset playing while you listen to the speakers, wouldn't they be slightly out of sync as they go through different decoding processes, resulting in the sound getting confused?

Today it just suddenly became popping sound whenever I play a round. From volume control and YouTube and any application.

I've tried uninstalling restart then reinstalling driver but to no avail. I doubt it's an hardware issue because even when I plug in or on bluetooth it still sounds this way.

Dropbox - Voice 001.m4a

System is a Asus ROG GL552V Australia set. There's possibly no warranty as I've brought it over to another country

Answer:Popping sounds from speakers or headset

I don't have a google drop box account so I can't listen to your sample.

Download and run the Resplendence Latency Mon program. That may help to pinpoint what is causing the problem. Popping, crackling, dropouts were common on Windows 7, but I haven't seen much posted about the problems on Win 10. Have you recently installed anything or updated anything? But run the Latency Mon program and see what it shows.

I have standard desktop speakers with the 3.5mm jack, which I use for music, movies, etcI recently bought a headset which I use for skype, also 3.5 mm (with split mic and sound inputs. )When I plug the headset jacks into the front inputs, the speakers go out and all the sound goes through the headset. I understand that this is how it works, but is there a workaround that will allow to use both at the same time? Will a USB adapter for the headset (2-prong) allow me to circumvent this? thanks

Answer:Playing both 3.5 mm headset and 3.5 mm speakers - Windows 8.1

No. It is not that hard. You can use a splitter for 3.5 mm stereo cord  to allow two devices to be feed from one jack.http://tenettech.com/product/366/audio-splitter-35mm-6inThe above link has a photo. But the price is way too high.Amazon price is better.http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Audio-Splitter-Speaker-Headphones/dp/B005GNQNHUNotice that these are specifically marketed for what your want. So it must work.

Hi, I bought a new headset today, identical to that of my sister, which is very loud ( in a good way). So, when I plugged the set to my speakers I was disappointed because it was lower than that of my sister's. But then I thought to plug it to front green panel of the unit and boom!!! the sound was crystal-clear as my sister's. The question is: why that happens and how can receive the same amount of volume from both inputs?

Answer:My headset has low volume when plugged in speakers

If you plug it into a jack on the speakers, the speaker system determines the volume. When you plug it into the headphone jack on the PC the sound chip and system volume control determine the volume.

The Impedance of the headset can also affect volume level.

As everyone knows tax time is rolling around and it's time for "Adult Christmas". Well one thing I was looking into buying was a good headset, speakers, and a sound card for my rig. But the one thing I've come increasingly concerned about is playing games, and rocking out to my favorite music. While playing games, BF:2, WoW, FFXI, and all the likes.. I often use Team Speak, or Ventrillo server for communication *It is key!* Well, the main thing that I am looking for is a method to split the audio. I would love to be able to make all sound coming from TS, or Ventrillo (Maybe, even other applications) to come strictly through my headset, and then all music to go through the speakers.

Looking for any advice on this matter. I haven't bought anything just yet, but what combination of things would I need to accomplish this? Sound Card, Speakers, yada yada?

Also, about the only thing I like for Vista is the new audio control where you can change the volume per application, instead of for the system as a whole. Anyone know of something like this for WinXp?

Hello fellow community, I've been having trouble since about 2 days back, my headset and my speakers worked just fine till i shut the computer down for the night. then the following morning there was just no sound, I kinda tried everything these days but nothing works...Anyway, I got a steelseries 3h VR headset and some kind of speakers, I know that they both work ( I tried it on my dads computer) so there's no problem with them i guess. I got windows home premium 64bit, Please post on this thread if you think you might know the problem!

(I will also post more information about the computer if you need any)

Although there are similar threads they don't seem to be quite the same so here goes...

I have speakers plugged into my integrated sound card, and a USB headset. To switch between them I have to manually access my Playback Devices and set one or the other to the Default Device.

Previously when I used XP, my speakers seemed to work as the default device but then when I switched them off (using the volume/off knob on the speaker) the sound would automatically be switched to the USB headset.

It was so simple - switch the speakers on and get sound through the speakers - switch the speakers off and get sound through the headset. Is there any way to get this same scenario working in Vista?

OR... I guess it would work just as well to have BOTH the speakers and headset working all the time - so I can simply switch the speakers off when I just want to use the headset.

Answer:Switching between speakers and headset (simply)

The way mine is set up I plug Headset in and speakers auto matically turn off....unplug headset, speakers turned on.

Pretty simple

Hello I bought a Y510P laptop (Windows 7 x64, chipset Intel HM86). Unfortunetely, I have a huge problem with the sound. When I plug in my headphones, computer doesn't see them (they don't appear in any sound manager). At the beginning, in the headphones there was no sound at all. Then I reinstalled the drivers from the Lenovo's website... and I have the sound both from the speakers and headphones at the same time   I tested 3 different headphones, they work well with the other devices. These are my sound managers when the headphones are plugged (sorry, it's in Polish, but I hope you know these anyway)  As you can see, it looks like there are no headphones plugged, even if they are indeed and the sound is coming out also from them.I can't give my computer back to the shop as I'm abroad for 2 months. Please help me. Best wishes, Joanna

Set up - Soundblaster Audigy Gamer. Latest Drivers 2.18.0017
USB headset Latest Drivers.
Speakers Set to Default audio device.

So I installed the new headset, and that works fine.
Also the speaker are set to the default sound device.
So Vista recognizes that there is audio and shows the audio levels fluctuating in the Audio Console.

But there is no sound coming out the speakers. And any device set to use the USB headset works fine, as if everything is set up correctly.

So what could be wrong? I have updated every driver and messed with every setting, I even checked the bios. It states the speakers are working just fine and still no sound. (I also checked all connections to the speakers and tested them on another computer they are operational)

Thanks in advance

Answer:USB Headset works, Speakers dont.

This suggestion is so lame, I'm almost embarassed to make it --- except that it worked for me, so here you go: Have you tried shutting down your system and rebooting after you using your headset? Many systems are set up to require that you have to do that in order to get the sound back to your system's speakers.

Hi all.

I've got serious problem with Toshiba Sattelite Pro C50-A-1KV. I've win7 x64 and Ubuntu 14.04 x64 on this machine. There was first installed Win7 and later Ubuntu 14.04.

I tried to use headset while i was logged on ubuntu and there was no sound, the sound was cutted off from speakers but headset was not working, when i plugged it off i have the sound on speakers again.

After restart i didn't have sound at all on ubuntu, and when i switch to windows the problem escalate to windows also. Right now it looks like some time the sound is on speakers, but headset is dead, some time there is sound on headset and speakers.

I've no idea what is the cause of the problem. The win7 and ubuntu were clean instaled, only updates were downloaded. I'm thinking that driver has some problems but how could I make it work. For testing i tried to use Skype and there was a situation where I have sound on speakers and headset but then microphone was dead -_-'.

I've got a few pieces of this and the exact problem is on half of them. I've got them from 2 deliveries.
The first onewas ok, everything is working. From the second one every one has this malfunction :/

I tried to do a backup on model where it's working and restore from back up windows and install new ubuntu but it didn't work out.

Any suggestions what may cause the problem or how to solve IT ?

Answer:Speakers headset problems on dualboot Satellite Pro C50-A-1KV

I think you should firstly clarify if your headphones are OK.

My theory is that your headphones could be faulty (maybe a broken cable or something like that) and therefore the speakers as well as the headphones would not work in case the headphones are connected to the notebook.

The notebook?s headphone jack supports an tiny switch which will disable the speakers while headphones are connected.

So in case the headphones are faulty, the speakers and headphones would not work.
Therefore I think you should check the headphones firstly.

If you are sure that the headphones are OK, then I think that there might be a problem with the mentioned small switch within the headphone jack.
Why? Because I cannot imagine that this might be an software / driver problem because the same issue appears using Linux as well as Windows system.

Both systems are completely different and an software / driver problem in both cases is almost beyond belief.

However, I would still recommend setting the notebook back to factory settings using Toshiba Recovery procedure in order to check if the sound problem would appear using Toshiba preistalled system and factory configuration

Good day.

I have a very weird problem and I've only found 2 threads about it on the web and they don't really lead to solutions. Here is my Problem...

So one day I'm trying to hook my headset up so that I can talk to fellow gamer's when playing online games, and it came to my conclusion as I was struggling to set the headset up that my mic on the headset is not recording the sound and it is actually my headset's speakers. I don't even understand how this is possible. This is very strange and I would GREATLY appreciate some advise and possibly a solution to this. (I even bought a USB sound card and that's doing the exact same thing)

Thank you sooooo much in advance!!!
