Preferred Solution: accidentally deleted the volume utility

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

Today I was in Disk Management and accidentally removed Volume K: which was my external Seagate Hard Drive. I meant to re format and delete the files but not delete the acutal volume.

I now cannot see my drive K: when I go into My Computer, but it is their in device manager, when I plug it in an out, i get the noise, but I just cant access it, so I did a system restore to a few days ago, but no look its still gone, i actually am not worried about the files on it, I just wanted to be able to use it again.

I am using Vista Home.

Rgds

Valerie

Answer:Accidentally deleted volume under disk management

You should be able to go back into Disk Management to re-initialize and reformat the drive. With the Disk Management window open, look down at the list where the individual drives are listed in bold print (it should list Disk 0, Disk 1, the CD drives, etc). The drive in question should be listed; right click on the bold print for the drive and choose initialize. Once that is done, you should be able to partition and format as usual.

Hi, I accidentally deleted the volume on my 3rd hard drive and now my Windows Vista PC won't even recognize the drive. How can I fix this?

The problem started when I put my old Barracuda 160 gig drive in a usb external case and couldn't get it to work until I put the jumpers on 7-8. The problem was, it was asking me to format the drive which was full of files which I wanted to retrieve. Through a series of now obvious mistakes, I first shrunk the volume backwards, I meant to shrink only 50 MB but deleted all but 50 MB and then stupidly deleted the entire volume.

What I need now is to at least be able to have my PC recognize the drive again and to be able to restore the full volume but would ideally like to still be able to retrieve the data, if that's even possible at this point. Also, why does, or did my computer only recognize this drive in the 7-8 jumper configuration? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

So while i was going through my Zune media player software, i was deleting music that i just dont listen to anymore.
i have an 80g zune, and i had to free up space to sync up my library. Quite a bit of music.
So in about the 3rd hour of deleting music...i get delirious, and just start clicking at things and deleting.

Somehow, I (while holding ctrl to select music) hit ctrl+A and hit delete. Yep I deleted my entire library. I'm awesome...
I deleted the music, not only from my library, but from the music folder on my computer.

The recycle bin only has room for so much and has only a fraction of the music I had originally.

Please...HELP ME RETRIEVE IT!

I have heard legend tell of a mysterious place known as MS-DOS...and by harnessing its powers, you are able to retrieve any old files that you accidentally deleted?...
Are there any wise wizards who can tell me about this legendary mysterious place? (sorry just had to)

Thank you in advance!

(I run Vista 32-bit)

Answer:I accidentally deleted something...

There is no DOS with XP or Vista. The important thing is to quit using the computer until you have decided on a plan to reclaim the files so you don't overwrite the files beyond recognition.I've heard positive things about PC Inspectorhttp://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file_recov....htm?language=1

Hello,

In working with a laptop with Windows 98SE and trying to clean some items out, a tab was inadvertently left checked instead of unchecking it (the Windows cache). It went on to delete the whole hard drive and now when trying to boot up all that appears is the "C:" prompt. Guess it has gone into DOS mode?

Since there is no emergency reboot disk and the system is not presently accepting the factory CD with all of the programs at this time, perhaps because it only defaults to the "C" prompt, those cannot be used.

Tried going to START --> RUN and then input "Win" there but that did not work to try to get Windows back. Would appreciate any suggestions to see if it is possible to get going again where I could start to rebuild the programs that it lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:HD Accidentally Deleted

I'm a little confused. You say you

Tried going to START --> RUN and then input "Win" thereClick to expand...

but you also say

when trying to boot up all that appears is the "C:" promptClick to expand...

If the Start button appears then you are in Windows.

If you are only getting the C:> prompt try typing:
CD C:\Windows

If the prompt then changes to C:\Windows>

Then type

Win

If it doesn't change type DIR and see what is listed if anything.

How exactly did you delete drivers from your computer?

There are 2 issues with your computer that appear in the log:
1. Its 1 TB(931 GB) hard drive is completely full and has no free space.
2. No antivirus program is installed and running.

Your computer's ASUS P8B75-M LE motherboard has these integrated devices:
Intel B75 chipset
Intel HD Graphics 2500
VIA VT1708S high definition audio
Realtek 8111F-VB-CG gigabit Ethernet
(Note: It looks like you added an AMD Radeon R7 200 Series graphic card to it)

I hate to come here with tech related questions and/or problems, but I'm really stressed over something my dumb *** did tonight.

I have three hard drives - a 300GB PATA drive (D, a 300GB SATA (E drive that contains my Windows installation, and a 500GB PATA (G drive that contains a back up of the 300GB PATA drive (both of which contain all of my important files, such as music, games, ect.)

I've been having trouble with my Windows drive for a while now, as there is some sort of short that causes the SATA cable to not insert properly. I was having trouble getting Windows to even install tonight, so I did something monumentally stupid and installed my Windows disk into the DVD drive.

I went to Windows setup, figuring I could create a partition on the G drive and install Windows and thus throw out the failing E drive. I formatted a partition, which turned out to be on my D drive by mistake. After fumbling a bit, I finally have Windows up and running from the E drive (didn't complete the installation to G).

Problem is, now both of my G drive and D drive, which again contain all of my music, videos, ect. are gone! I tried Windows system restore and it did nothing. My D drive is showing up as empty with just the Windows directory, and the G drive is showing up as unformatted and unallocated.

So, is there anything I can do to recover my stuff? Or am I monumentally screwed?

hi guys,

it's a little complicated. i have win xp pro sp2 and suse 9.0 on my computer (PT4, 1.8 ghz) installed. now i wanted to uninstall suse 9.0 to test mandrake 10.0. i didn't know what to do ,so i asked a friend. he said you need only to delete this two partions and all is gone. the result: i couldn't boot up my computer anymore because the system was booted by the grub bootloader.
i needed to access win so i decided ( i had still some start up floppy disk ) to install win xp sp1 on my d-drive in order to access dive c. it worked. before i tried to boot and install from the installation disk but this didn't work. after " windows is inspecting your hardware" the screen went black.
now what can i do? on my d-drive are still this two partion from suse 9.0. the computer tells me, it's free space but i have no access. how can i recover this space to drive d?
what will happen when i delete win xp sp1 again? can i still boot up?

thanks a lot for your help.

and boot then go to the recovery console and type "fixmbr". If you are going to play around with linux as a second os I suggest you learn more about dual booting. Of course, after you install MDK 10 you may not use anything else. I installed mandrake 9.2 and haven't used my xp box in quite some time.

I accidentally deleted some files off of a hard drive, is there any way to get them back? Thing is, the HDD is shared as network storage, I deleted them from another computer, so they didn't go to the recycle bin...

...is there any way at all to get them back? The files were replaceable save for three movies I made in Film class (but they were crap so meh...), I just dont want to go through the effort of reripping all my music and movies again, ya know?

Answer:Accidentally deleted some files...

Did you write anything into the drive after that? If not then you can probably get them back once you go to the computer with HD and use R-studio.

I recently installed Windows 7 to my SSD. Its only 64GB so I set Windows up so that the Users folder was on my seconday (X drive instead of my SSD, and setup a Program Files and Program Files (x86) on my secondary drive. I used this. I deleted the account I made when installing windows and accidenally clicked delete files as well. This deleted all of the data I had in my Users folder and many in Program Files and other places. I used Recuva, but now all of the deleted files are in one folder instead of their respective locations. Is there anything I can do aside from reinstalling and salvaging what I can and reinstalling all of my programs?

I had to recently replace my power supply. When I restored my system everything that had been added since 2004 was either inop or gone. In the mean time my wife or son opened facebook or my space and hooked into a virus called "Protection Center" along with its buddy "Defense Center". I tried all sorts of ways to remove these tough viruses and finally wiped the hard drive of most things on it. Once I got control of my PC back I began reloading all that was lost including my security programs. I think I erased some important functions while I was trying to get rid of the virus. Is there a free program available from windows,HP or compaq or someone reputable that can show me what I am missing such as dll's or registries? Can they also show me how to repair these lost functions without having me download some program that is "free" and then wants 10-20-30 dollars or more to actually fix the problem?

I accidentally deleted ComboFix by putting it in the recycling bin instead of using start then run and putting Combofix /uninstall into the box. Is that bad?

Answer:Accidentally deleted ComboFix

Not necessarily bad but by doing so, ComboFix related files and folders will remain on the system if you ran the tool before deleting it. The correct way to uninstall ComboFix can be found here. If you have not emptied the Recycle Bin you should be able to restore the file to your Desktop and follow those instructions. -- If you encounter any problems using the switch from the Run dialog box, just rename ComboFix.exe to Uninstall.exe, then double-click on it to remove.BTW, if you have not already done so, please read ComboFix usage, Questions, Help? - Look here.

Hello everyone!

I had a dual boot on my laptop (running windows 7 and arch linux). I decided to get rid of the linux partitions and accidentally deleted the EFI partition. As a result, my laptop now doesn't recognize that there is any operating system on the computer.

What I have tried: I am currently using this: http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/52515-windows-8-cant-start-due-missing-efi-partition.html and the post by Genet with Option 3 since I allocated the space back to my disk C. I am running into an error part way thru the solution though where after I do "create partition efi size=260", it comes back with "MSR and EFI partitions are only supported on GPT disks. Convert the selected disk to GPT and try again". I don't know if I want to do that because its my local disk C...don't want to mess that up and change the format of that.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi,

I have Windows 2000 Professional and while trying to delete the 'Brilliant Dig' spyware I also deleted HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\. And now I cant open some web pages especially the javascript links. It says 'Error on page'

Also, I cant open Microsoft Word anymore. If i try to do so it says: "the windows installer service could not be accessed. contact your support personnel to verify that the Windows Installer service is properly registered."

When I try to open a word document saved on my C\drive it says: "The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options Control Panel."

In addition to these, when I try to update my AVG Anti virus I receive a message like there is a problem with the interface and it fails to update.

And finally some options like start-search-all files and folders and edit-find (on this page) commands do not work.

Hope you can help me with this problem?

Help Required !
I accidentally deleted two drivers (serenum.sys, CH341S64.sys) which I required on my windows 8 64bit pc.
I needed them for serial communication with my arduino . I connected the same arduino to another PC (My father's) and it was detected . The other PC was a win10 and i checked the drivers it was using for communication with the arduino(they were serenum.sys, CH431S64.sys). I copied them onto my computer but drivers require a .inf file which I lack. So I have the .sys files but cant use them on the win8 pc.

Thank You for reading.

I got a virus, which seems like a FakeAV, ran my Sophos antivirus scan, in the quarantine was an item called ZAKmem-A, sophos said the only solution was to manually remove the item i804prt.sys, so i did. It didn't work so i restarted in safe mode. Now it's obvious to me that was big mistake because i can no longer log in to the computer. Is there any way to undo this damage without losing all of my memory?

Answer:I accidentally deleted i804prt.sys; please help.

I believe the file you are referring to is I8042prt.sys which is your ps2 keyboard and mouse driver. If the file was named i804prt.sys then that was probably malware. I assume you cannot log in because you do not have a keyboard or mouse, correct? You may indeed have a virus. Try attaching a USB mouse and keyboard. You may be able to log in.

If a USB keyboard and mouse is not available, you can recover your data using Puppy linux. Download Puppy linux and burn the iso file with Imgburn. Then boot the CD and copy but not move the files to an external hard drive. What OS are you using?

Was doing a disk cleanup and deleting thumbnails was one of the options in order to save space, and I accidentally checked the box.
Does anyone know how I can retrieve it so they can show up for my movie files, etc.
thx

Answer:Accidentally deleted thumbnails

Clearing the thumbnail cache will only empty the cache and not delete it. The cache will rebuild itself as Vista reloads the thumbnail images for the icons back into the cache as you navigate through Windows Explorer.

I've done this more than a few times for customers, and Acronis has always found the partition(s) in seconds. This time I pointed it to pretty much the exact sector the deleted partition begins on and I got nothing.

Anyone know another tool to simply undelete a partition?

So I have an ipod touch 4, and on my old computer the apps I downloaded were saved in one spot. Then, when I got my new computer, newer apps started saving in a new spot, and whenever an app was updated, it would be moved to the new folder.

I had assumed that all of my apps that I was still using had either been updated, or that just using them would lead to them being moved to the new folder, and so deleted the old folder, but I am now aware that that is not the case and some of my apps are no longer present on my computer.

Fortunately I have all of my apps backed up on my external hard drive, even those ones, though I'm worried that those ones may not be the most recent versions, and that in the case of some of my games the save files may be significantly far behind.

Oddly enough, the apps still appear in my itunes folder fine, other than that they have an exclamation point next to them and when I click "get info" they can't be found, but they still appear on my ipod and work fine and have the most recent saves, despite having synced my ipod to my computer multiple times since then.

Does anyone know what is going on and how I might fix this before I somehow end up losing the saves on these games?

If they are stored on the easyshares server, you better email kodak and ask them if they can recover them.

If you deleted the pics from your hard disk, install it as a slave on another pc, download getdataback (http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-faq.htm) and install it on the new pc, and see if the files are on the drive, then you can retrieve them to your friends hard disk.

Hey.

I accidentally (I don't even know how I did it) deleted my account with ALL MY FILES ON IT! But I know my files are still on the hard drive and in the computer. Problem is when I try to access ''Documents and Settings'' my old account's folder is still there but It is blocked. I remember blocking other users from my files awhile ago but I need to get all my files back!

It won't let me enter my files. All it says is ''C:\DocumentsandSettings/Owner is not accessible.

Access is denied''

Is there any ways I can get these files? I heard I can somehow connect to another computer and send them. I don't know. Any programs I can use? I'll even buy. Please help.

Answer:Accidentally deleted account

You need to take posssesion of it since it is not recognizing your current User Name as having authority to access it.

In XP Pro you only neeed to right click on the directory and select the Security tab where you will find the option to add your user name to the permissions list.

In XP Home you must boot up in Safe Mode and do this.

I'm unsure if this is the proper section of the forum, but here goes. I upgraded to Windows 10 when it first was released. I had no issues initially. Randomly, my computer chose to log me in to a temporary profile. I was unable to access my files or pictures, and no amount of enabling the built in administrator and running the sfc /scannow command had any effect on the problem. It simply told me there were corrupt files that they couldn't fix. It was suggested to me that I use the built in Administrator account to delete the profile I had been logging in under. I did so, and somehow managed to delete all profiles. I am now unable to log into my computer at all. The only account available says it's the administrator account, however, when I attempt to log in it says the account has been disabled.
I am at an utter loss as to what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

When I went to programs and made a shortcut to desktop it worked fine, but when I right click on icon, then properties there is no internet properties, which I can empty my cache from, sure if it is open then I can get to it from tools, but I like to do this sometimes before I have to open up the program.

How can I get the original icon on my desktop??

Thanks

When in IE go to tools, then internet options then click on the advanced tab. In the browsing section there will be a checkbox for "show internet explorer on the desktop" check that. If already checked then uncheck and click apply and then recheck and click apply and your icon will return.

PLEASE HELP!

p.s sorry for my use of the word "thingy"
p.p.s me and electronics have a bad relationship

Answer:I've accidentally deleted the sound off my laptop

Hi there, rjamda.

If you're using Windows, you might be able to correct the problem with a system restore. The process reverts your OS and driver configurations to an earlier state. You have to be extra careful, though, as a bungled restore process can mess up your laptop in a very bad way.

As for reinstalling the driver, did your laptop perchance come with a CD? If it did, then maybe you can have look there and check for the drivers you need. If your laptop did not come with a CD, then you may want to check this link: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection.

Remember, you need to download and install the correct drivers for your laptop's make and model. You need to be very careful about that.

Having said that, if you have a "bad relationship" with electronics (and you and I are very much alike in that way ), perhaps it would be wise to have someone more experienced with PCs there to help you out with all of this. I'd even go so far as to suggest that you take the laptop back to the place of purchase and have the tech guys have a look at it. I really doubt the problem will take too long or cost too much to fix.

Hope this helps even a little.

Hi All,
On a Packard Bell iMedia Desktop PC running W7-64 bit, I've accidentally deleted most of the emails in the 'Sent' folder of Thunderbird. A disaster. How can I get them back? I've tried 'Recuva' which does get back two compressed files which Windows cannot open. If that's where they are how can I open the files, please?
For more info, the deletion occurred because I accidentally highlighted the 'Recipient' header of the 'Sent' folder and when I moved the mouse it must have dragged across the 'Delete' button at the bottom right of the list. I suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and have numb fingers on the right and did not feel the mouse button being pressed. I've tried the 'Undo' function in the 'Edit' menu but it did not work.
There's a lot of important stuff in the deleted mails and I'd dearly like to get them back. Your prompt help would be very much appreciated.

So I had the virus that sometimes manifests itself as a fake smss.exe file, and I guess somewhere in the process of trying to remove it I accidentally deleted the real smss.exe file in the I386 folder. I understand that missing smss.exe can cause system instability and slowness. What are my next steps?

Answer:Accidentally Deleted a Registry File

Reference: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/smss.exe.html.In the first place, the i386 folder is a storage folder...has nothing to do with active O/S.If any file is missing from the i386 folder, seems to me that any number of efforts could correct that. The most simple seems to be simply copying it from the active location and placing it there.I don't know the source of your info...but I only show two locations (System32 folder and System32\Dllcache folder) for this file, with the i386 not being either.I suppose that it could be part of the .cab file in i386, which makes sense to me. If it is, then it's compressed and you would have to restore the .cab file in entirety. I suppose that could be done by updating an SP or doing a repair install.Louis

I just made a terrible mistake!

I've recently set up a desktop PC after 2 years without one.

Anyway, I've been backing up all my old 3.5 Inch HD's to newer and larger drives.

I just got finished moving a heap of files to a new drive, and when done, accidentally deleted the partition of the new drive and was just about to format it thinking it was the old empty drive when I realised what I had done...

So my question is, is it possible to recover a deleted partition? I'm guessing all the information is still on the drive as I haven't actually formatted it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer:How can I recover an accidentally deleted HD partition?

Yes.

Undelete it.

Partition recovery function on any number of partition tools will do that.

Partition wizard free is popular.

Best done from a boot disc here: Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.

I just got a new, hp with windows seven. I put a shortcut icon on the desktop for "MY Documents" and then I accidentally deleted it. But now I can't access My Documents at all, or pictures, or video, or any of it. When I try to open it in the start-up menue, or right-click to do a, "send to" nothing happens. What can I do to recover this? Also, I tried doing a system restore, but it failed to go through.

Answer:accidentally deleted MY Documents from window

First of all, if you haven't since emptied the recycle bin you can restore the shortcut to the Documents folder. If you performed an unsuccessful restore you should go back and undo it. Clicking on the start orb in the lower left corner of your screen should show you a link to your documents folder. If you managed to create the shortcut once, I don't understand why you can't do it again. The icon on the desktop is just a shortcut. I doubt you actually deleted the documents folder.

Is it a problem that I've deleted OKR?2. Can I get a copy of OKR and install is again and everything will be fine?4. Is the OKR partition essentially useless now and can I delete it?3. If I try to use the Intel Data Migration Software to transfer data to the SSD, should I delete/resize any of the partitions.4. PS. Will OKR work with the SSD? As I've read that the Intel Data Migration Software (Acronis) will automatically resize the partitions before writing to the SSD.

In my feeble attempt to remove the annoying wgatray.exe, I accidentally deleted an important file which prevents me from logging into Windows. The problem is, I don't know which file(s).

When I started Windows, the usual blue welcome screen didn't appear, instead a box to input my username and password popped up. After inputting, my background picture appeared, along with the usual Windows startup tune. However, after a few seconds, before even loading anything, Windows started to shut down, along with the familiar 'saving your settings' pop-up box.

I've just installed another Windows in order to create this post. I just need to know which file(s) are needed for me to start up my original Windows. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

In a misguided attempt to change my XP welcome screen... I think I may have killed my computer. Please help!
Here's what I did... control userpasswords2 - unchecked box for log in. still had user selection on welcome screen. Here's where it all went wrong... Entered control userpasswords2 again then deleted all users but administrator. Yes I know NOW this was not a good idea. changed administrator password (again bad choice). Rebooted computer. Password does not work. Am unable to get into computer. Tried safemode - partition codes. Any suggestions? or am I completely out of luck? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:SOS - Accidentally deleted user accounts. Can't log on to XP!

The rules won't let us help you crack a password. If you can't remember it, and there are no other accounts, we are unable to help.

If you meant that you permanently deleted them, then there's probably no way to get them back unless you have a Data recovery program like R-Tools' R-Studio for which you got to spare some bucks. If you don't mind, what did you mean by hitting delete "on the Keyboard?" Was it like hitting Shift+Delete so that you can permanently delete a file or something else?
