Preferred Solution: My tower Power button will not work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: My tower Power button will not work

You could have a defective power switch on the PC case. Test this by using the reset switch as a temporary power switch. The power switch and the reset switch are the same for practical purposes except, of course, the size of the button (on most cases). If the reset switch works and is able to start the PC, then you know the power switch is defective.

I have a brand new M93P mini tower windows 8.1 and start menu shut down button does not work; computer tries to shut down but then restarts; if I do shut down from "Charms" and power, it shuts down properly.  Told Lenovo support about it, and they sent someone to replace the motherboard, but the problem persists; Lenovo repair guy said it was a Microsoft issue and I called MS about it and they did a refresh back to WIN 8 forcing me to reinstall all my software and bring it back to 8.1 but the problem persists; MS blames the Lenovo version of WIN 8 and Lenovo blames MS and I am stuck in the middle.   Lenovo support leaves something to be desired.  Any ideas out there?

Answer:M93P mini tower win 8.1 start menu shutdown button doesn't work

It appears that Microsoft was the culprit; this issue was resolved by an update to Windows 8.1, apparently KB2919394.

hi, I am going to upgrade my graphic card to ATI 5770 so I need a new power supply which has power about 550--600 watt. But the most frustrating problem is that I failed to find a proper power supply with the correct dimension.
I have an HP pavilion e9300 which uses a very wired power supply tower-150mm(W) 86(H) 140(D). But so far all the PSUs I found is the standard size --150mm(W) 86(H) 150(D) which cannot fit in my setup.

So could any PC God give me some suggestion, please??
Is any PSU with the size of my tower or can I just simply install a bigger PSU which can still successfully power up the comptuer?

Thx in adance.

Answer:Power supply bigger than the tower - frustrated by HP PSU tower

If the power supply will physically fit your case, it should work fine with your computer. Will the extra 10mm interfere internally with anything inside the PC?

I don't have any personal experience with that model but judging from the documentation you should be able to start via the Novo button.  (Unless that capability has also been damaged)

Have a old Pentium II MB and a 350 MHZ processor, when the computer in DOS the power bottom worked fine. However, with Windows XP the power button dose not work. When I turn off computer, and the point where it say "It is safe to turn off the computer". The power dose not worked!
Thank!

Answer:power button dose not work with XP

Firstly, u shouldnt be running XP on such an old computer, secondly XP wants 2 shut your computer, but the MOBO & BIOS are very old and won't let it, so the whole thing is stuffing up.

Solution: Buy a new comp or check for BIOS updates from the motherboard manufacturer.

I have tried some things whitout success and now i need the help of the HP community. The power button sometimes work like once on 50 times (or more). Before the problem started, the error message "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" sometimes appear. I have reinstalled the driver, tested my graphic card and all the others components and nothing appears to be defective exept the board... I have one of the strangest issues I have come across. After upgrading to 8.1 my power button doesn't always work when trying to enter sleep mode. It's how I send my computer to sleep and wake it up. If the computer is off or asleep and I press the button it works every time, but if it is on and I press it to send it to sleep mode it works probably 25% of the time.

Not sure what specs will be useful so here are the main things: custom built computer inside a "Cooler Master Storm Enforcer" case with an ASRock Z77 Extreme6 motherboard, Intel i7 3770k, and Windows 8.1 Pro w/ media center.

Also as a side issue (that has been going on since before Windows 8.1) when I right click a word in Chrome to auto correct it that only works once per text entry. If I click the new word on the context menu nothing happens.

I am fixing a PC for a friend; their power supply went bad, so i switched it but now the PC will NOT turn on using the front PC button but rather it turns on when i plug in the cable in the Power Supply.

& Furthermore, it shows nothing on the monitor when it turns on...

The Power Supply Fan is working, CD Drive open normally & i can hear the Hard drive moving...

Can you guys give me a bit of advance on what i should do next please?

Answer:Power button doesn't work with new PSU

Are you sure you plugged all the connectors correctly? The PC not switching on from the front button would seem to indicate the power switch is not plugged into the motherboard.

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that your S410 Laptop is not working as expected while turning OFF or restarting. Please let me know if you have made any Hardware/Software changes before this issue occurred and also perform Flee Power steps in the computer and let me know the findings:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

Hope to hear back soon

Best Regards

Hi,

My Laptop is an HP G70-120EA, which I bought 2 years ago. After just one year it started showing problems and the current problems are:
From the past 6 months, on pressing the power button the laptop would not start at all. But after pressing hard, or after trying several times, suddenly and randomly it would start. The adapter seems to be fine. So I thought the problem is in the connection between the power switch and the motherboard.

My Questions are:

1. Is there any alternative way to start the laptop? Any modification, or improvisation?
2. How do I fix the problem myself?

I cannot repair the laptop here,in Bangladesh since I searched almost the whole city and there are NO experts regarding laptops who can fix the problem. I gave it to a well-known repair company and they couldnt fix the problem rather they made other problems as well-- like they cut down the mic and webcam.
Also I am willing to fix these issues myself if it does not require high-risk parmanent damage.
I went to the top dealers of HP here, but they worsened the problem.

hi Razerian,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you'll look at this Maintenance Manual at page 82.

http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/b590_hmm_en.pdf

The Part number 2 is the Power Board.

If you can check that on your system and check the part number online, you can try replacing it or you can check the cable that connects it to the board.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hey all!

After a few issues with the laptop that required a major overhaul (dodgy fan that needed replacing to name but one) after putting the laptop back together the power button has stopped workinh, I cannot turn the laptop on or off using it.

As its the 303 and i have the digital controls for MP3 playback on the front, I can turn the laptop on from there so its not a 100% problem, but it would be nice to get it working again.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Power button on 1900-303 doesn't work

Hi Rabbi

It is not easy to say because there can be many reasons for that. The fact is that unit has power supply but in my opinion there is some contact problem. You have two possibilities. Either check again all contacts and cable connections or ? service partner.

I don?t know how much experience you have but like you can see the notebook construction is very damageable and a small mistake can be reason for something like that.

Good luck!

My lenovo y560p stopped charging.  I bought and replaced the DC barrel jack and it started charging (my warranty was already expired).  The problem is that now the power button isn't working.  The charging light on the front is on when it is plugged in.  Will replacing the button most likely work?  I'm in college and need it up and running asap and as cheaply as possible.  Thanks for any ideas/suggestions.

Answer:Ideapad y560p power button won't work

hi pitbrawlzant,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

When you disassembled the PC, did you verify if the power button board cable is firmly connected to the motherboard? (see page 58 of the hardware maintenance manual).

If it's loose, connect it firmly and try to turn the computer ON. if same problem, there's problably a defect on the Power Button Board (see spoiler for image) and you may need to replace it.
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
In an event that the locking mechanism to hold the power button board cable is damaged, check this article on how to fix it.

Hope this helps

Hello, I have a XPS 8700 desktop and about four months ago It started. The power button didn't work whenever I pressed it. It would function when it wanted to. But today it isn't working at all. I press the power button and nothing happens, the button doesn't turn orange. It just doesn't work. Could someone help me? I'm not so smart with computers but there's no use to insist until it functions like it was some months ago. Please help, I'm desperate

Answer:XPS 8700 Power button doesn't work

First read through the XPS 8700 Owner’s Manual. The reason is that you are going to remove the front bezel (page 21) that houses the power button. Once removed, press the actual button on the chassis itself to see if the system then powers on. If not, follow the power button cable (page 58) to the motherboard and reset the cable. Test the button on the chassis again. Then examine the button on the inside of the front bezel. Does it appear to be working?

i remember that the light on the power button once workedbut for a while I realized that no longer lights .I can send the laptop under warranty just for that ? or I can fix it myselfI tried to raise the bar of the button but could not find how to do..

Answer:power button light not work anymore

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

The power button light is incorporated right into the motherboard circuitry and it is not something the owner can repair. Chances are the Lenovo Service Center will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix the problem.

As for Lenovo Support fixing the problem under warranty, that question would be best asked of the service center in your country as I can not answer that.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

Okay, I've had my Emachines C2825 for almost four years now. It's had many problems already: the cpu was overheating a couple times last year. I bought a system fan which took care of that problem. only a couple months ago i replaced the hard drive due to a whining noise which i understand means it would have died on me. NOW THE LATEST PROBLEM: the pc shuts down automatically and then wont turn on until i unplug it from the psu and plug it in again. I of course took the cover off and checked it out. i turned it on without the monitor plugged in and then rebooted with it plugged in. the monitor would go on standby just before it hit the logon screen. That happened multiple times. So i took the cover off again, checked it out, and put it back together......now what ........as soon as I plug it in, it turns on, but the power button light and the hard drive light does not show up. the power button will not turn the pc on or off, and i can't get a signal from the monitor.

Wow, that was long, but that should be it.......I hope someone can explain this and/or tell me how to fix it.
Thanks

Just started happening last month. I go to lock my phone and it does nothing. Still powers off if I hold it down, but won't lock screen. So i tried to wait until the screen timeout and when i want to on my phone still does nothing.
I can only on my phone when i charge it.
So i tried anything like several soft resets, at first after the soft reset it works normal then later then the error will occur. After many soft resets i notice that my date is November 2015. Due to laziness i didn't set my settings then later i found that my phone is working fine.
But its sucks
You cant download from Store cause its not up to date.
Any suggestions how to fix this problem?
Does anyone have the same problem?
Sorry for bad English :3

Hello, I accidentally spilled liquid on my W530 laptop's keyboard. The current state is that keyboard doesn't work (including power button and sound level buttons) - have to use external one + use power button from dock station + mix system volume to 0 to turn off constant beeping sound (apparently coming from keyboard). Besides this it looks like that laptop is fully functional (haven't noticed any issues for last two days). I'm trying to understand the extent of the damages in terms of what needs to be replaced. Is it only a keyboard? Or is it a motherboard as well? Thank you!

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:w530: keyboard + power button don't work after spill

The keyboard will often hold the liquid and protect the motherboard, unless it is a large spill. I certainly would try a different keyboard. It sounds like you got liquid into the grid below the keys. I would pull the keyboard first and see if there are signs that liquid got through.

First - I can power the computer on by grounding the green (power on) lead on the 8 pin MB connector.
Computer powes up, runs great and I'm having no issues with it operating.

Events to this point:
-Computer was working great with no issues.
-Power button was working just as it should.
-I swapped the 180w PSU for a 24pin 600w PSU
-Repined to 8 pin MB connector
-Went to power on with the button and got nothing.
-Grounded green wire, computer powers right on and boots
-Tried to ground out power button pins and got nothing
-circuit tested every power button pin to the pin the green wire plugs into, none went threw.
-Power button LED working when powered on
-Power Button will turn Computer off when pressed while on
-Changed setup to power PC on when AC power is lost so i could use the switch on the PSU but computer wont power on when I cycle the power switch. Setting did save in setup

Anyone have an actual pinout of a 6 pin/5 used power button connector?
Is there something I'm missing here? Any other testing point to find out where the fault is?
Is there a jumper somewhere that may have fallen off while I was messing with it?
computers running great and I can't turn it on and off, so frustrating.
Any help is appreciated.

I can't seem to get my computer to lock using the power button.  I followed the directions ...right click toolbar, click properties, click start menu, under "power button action", choose "lock".  I clicked apply and nothing.  I restarted the computer... and nothing.  I even set what the power button does in the battery/power configuration to "do nothing" (there is no "lock" option in the power option).  Anyone know why it doesn't work? Additionally, I am very disappointed about the function key / ctrl key swap in BIOS.  I assumed the swap would enable the ctrl key on the right side of the keyboard but it does not.  So I am still stuck using TWO hands to do something as simple as adjust my screen brightness (which I do consistently because I have very sensitive eyes).  I then tried the function lock option in BIOS, and of course that doesn't work either as all other keys won't function with the lock in place.   And one other gripe is that the lock feature requires you to press enter to lock (so a three-key process and requires BOTH hands to work). It's nice to have the option to just press one key once to get the computer to lock (like my old HP).   Anyone know any software that can allow me to adjust screen brightness or lock the computer with the press of ONE key?  Or at the very least allow me to do it with one hand?   This is my first Thinkpad and from a productivity/efficiency standpoint, I'm ... When i tried opening the screen it just wouldnt. The power button only responds when i press it down for a while only to shut down the phone or start it ....... Why is this happening.

Answer:one key theater power management button y560 don't work

Recently when I installed OEM Windows on my lappy, I noticed the key One Key Theater II hasn't worked anymore. After a while, I figured a way to solve this. I assumed you already installed every drivers from Lenovo website. Now let's do:1/ Uninstall Lenovo Energy Management Driver2/ Uninstall current ATI graphic driver (everything related to ATI driver)3/ Uninstall Onekey Theater 2.04/ Uninstall Lenovo SlideNav Now reinstall1/ Lenovo Energy Management Driver2/ Uninstall Onekey Theater 2.03/  current ATI graphic driver At this point, you will realize that the function of One Key Theater II comes back !!!Now reinstall Lenovo SlideNav. I guess there are sth really wrong between Lenovo SlideNav and Onekey Theater 2.0Hope this will help

Hi

I have a simple USB keyboard that has a Sleep, wakeup and poweron button on it.
The sleep button works fine but the others do not.
How do I enable that?

In the BIOS there's the wakeup setting, I chose the key (power button) and it still doesn't work.
I had to disable EUP (an European rule) which, if enabled, makes sure the power consumption of the powered off PC stays under 1 W, but it also eliminates most of the wakeup options to achive that low power level.

Now with that option disabled, it is now possible to enable wake up events but the power button still doesn't work.

Legacy USB keyboard setting is on. Could it be the cause?

Answer:Dedicated Power On button on keyboard doesn't work

What brand of keyboard is it? If it's a Logitech, it could be a driver issue. I have a similar problem with my media buttons on a Logitech keyboard, but it seems that a recent driver update has made them fail. Rolling back the driver made them work again.

Try reinstalling the driver, or rolling back to a previous driver and see if that helps the issue.

Hi, my Lenovo V570 keyboard recently stopped working so I took the keyboard off to reposition the cable. In the process I disconnected another cable on the motherboard (shown in the pictures below). I also cant find the black plastic piece that was holding it down.

Now not only does the keyboard not work but the power button does nothing. After research though Ifound out this laptop is notorius for having the power button go bad.

When I plug in the AC adapter I do see the battery light go on and it charges so I dont think the motherboard is bad. Ihave tried every trick in the book as far as getting static out of the laptop power button (holding down power button forcertain times). I looked at the mainteneance manual for this laptop and could not figure out what the disconnected cable does. I have tried reconnecting the cable without the plastic piece but that did not work.

Is the disconnected cable responsible for this or should I order a new power button board with cable?

is there some Fn key that will do this or a program? thx

Answer:t61 is there a button or progam to turn off the screen? power man. doesn't work

If you disable system entering suspend or hibernate, you can power off screen by closing the lid. Windows power manager should do it on a timed basis, but an active task will usually prevent it. As for a key, there probably is one, but I've never looked into it. Maybe someone else can give you a better answer.

Hi there, first off, I'd like to say that I am using a Dell XPS l502x. Yesterday I was cleaning my keyboard and palmrest, and i think some liquid got inside the mouse buttons and the power button, because they malfunction now. The mouse buttons do not work, and the power button only works when I press it sometimes. When I do press the mouse buttons, sometimes the laptop will go to sleep or on standby. I'm thinking of buying a replacement for the palmrest because it contains both the power button and touchpad, as well as the mouse buttons, but I need confirmation so that I don't end up wasting money if it doesn't work. Is there anything I can do?

This is my first time posting here, I appreciate any help. Thanks .

Please help. I bought a Lenovo Ideapad Z480 a couple months ago at Jakarta. After installed OS (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit) and tested some games I realized that there is something wrong, I saw some random dots (red or blue dots) - artifact. I did some googling and then I knew that the problem is on the nVidia gpu chip. In short, I sent my laptop to Lenovo SC at Jakarta and the mobo was replaced, artifact problem is gone, but then new problem appeared. My SN on the bios looks like => ıııııııııı and the power button, recovery button, and lid sometimes don't work properly.Sometimes I press the power button once and the laptop boots like normal, but sometimes I have to press it like thousands times. The same goes with the recovery button and the lid. I've set the laptop to sleep or shut down when the power button pressed or the lid closed, but it's just randomly don't work.I sent it again to SC and the mobo was replaced once again. On the first day I took my laptop from SC, my laptop power/recovery button and the lid are working fine (but the serial number on the bios still looks like ıııııııı). But two/three days later the problem comes back. The power/recovery button and the lid sometimes don't work properly again. Can anyone give a solution? I'm tired of sending my laptop to SC again because it needs some weeks or even over a month to be repaired and I need my laptop for work. Please help me :-(Sorry for bad English.

I have a compaq presario 6000 series desktop bought in december 2002. I am running winXP with SP2. I recently went to turn on my computer pressing the on button, and the little light to the left (there is second light to the right of the on/off button) of the on/off switch started blinking red with a regular rythm. I depressed the button, holding it for a count to ten, then let go and pressed the on button again. The left little light blinked green once, then started blinking red again. I repeated this prodedure until one time I pressed the on button and the computer turned on like normal. If I turn off my computer in my normal way, (click on "start", then click on "turn off computer", then "turn off") this scenario repeats itself every time. I am concerned that one of these times the computer will never turn on.

But... if I turn off the computer in another way, everything seems normal. If I depress the on/off switch, hold it for a count of ten, everything seemingly turns off just fine. The little light to the left of the on/off button stays on and is green, but everything else seems to be off like normal. There is no shutting down process that I can notice. But the next morning, I can depress the on button and everything proceeds like it did when the computer was new.

Can I keep shutting off my computer this way, or am I causing some unseen damage? Is ther any way to get it working like it used to?

Answer:Flashing red light by tower on/off button

I would suspect that the PC is in some sort of hibernate mode.

Boot up the PC and right click anywhere on the desktop Select Properties>Screen Saver tab> and under the Energy Saving Features you should find the modes which can be selected. Pick the one you want from there.

And no you aren't causing any damage.

Hi there,

We've got 3 Dell precision towers 5810 that work great, except for a possible bios bug, which I can reproduce on all machines:

I'm using the installed NIC: Intel ethernet server adapter i210-t1.
Our computers go powerless every night (mains power) after a normal pc shutdown. Every morning, when the power is back on, I want to wake up all computers in our building with Wake On Lan (WOL) by sending a 'magic packet' over the network.
This normally works well if the machine has been switched on and off with the power button / windows shutdown. But when I unplug the machine (mains power), wait and plug in the mains power again, the computer does not respond to the WOL packet. (Maybe the PCI-E NIC does not get power on plugging in the mains of machine for the first time).
It works well on the integrated (motherboard) NIC. BIOS / power / sleep state settings seem to be ok.

Please help. My on/off power button on the front of my tower is disconnected from my motherboard. Where exactley should I reconnect it too? So I can power up my computer. Thanks

Answer:no power to tower , power switch hookup

Not all motherboards are the same. To find the correct header pins you have to refer to the motherboard manual although sometimes the motherboard labels the pins clearly enough so you can figure it out. However, with the motherboard installed in the case, it could be difficult.

If you can't find your manual, try going to the motherboard's manufacturer site to download a copy of the manual (usually a pdf format). If you have a major manufacturer made PC (Dell, HP, Gateway, Emachines, etc.), you might have to try their websites. Good info from those sites might be hit or miss.

Just faced a rather strange issue, but not really an issue, just different system behaviour than expected. System:W520 Batteries:55++ connected27++ connected Power adapter:Unplugged No other accessories connected. Scenario:I was using the system till it power itself off due to low power (0% reached for both batteries). i.e. Ungraceful Windows shutdown. Then upon pressing the power on button, the LEDs flashes, no THINKPAD logo or BIOS message appears, system appears to then restart again, and the LEDs flash again...and loops until it was no longer able to even attempt to POST. Expected behaviour:Either display the message that says "Battery level is too low".OrDon't loop (this is the behaviour when only the 55++ battery is connected at 0%) Why does having the 27++ would make the system go through this looping cycle?

Answer:W520, 55++, 27++, unplugged from power adapter, 0% battery. Press Power button --> power up loops.

Hello Chatbox,

I can understand your issue very well, as there is no message comes on the screen which gives you information to plug the power adapter and prevent the laptop to get shut down.

You should install Power Manager software and then customize it as per your requirement.
The software can be download from the mentioned below web link.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/8mu417ww.exe

Hope, after this laptop will not shut down automatically due to battery backup

I have a Satellite P200. Recently the problem has arisen that my Internet button pushes itself so multiple Firefox windows start popping up at random intervals. Sometimes it's 2, sometimes it's 30. Needless to say it's quite annoying.

I found where I can customize the buttons and make the Internet button open a different program, but there doesn't seem to be an option to completely disable it. If I "Deregister" the Internet button, then it just goes back to the default function of opening an internet browser when it's pushed.

Is there a way to fully disable these keys?

Thanks!
Jason

Answer:Satellite P200 - Disabling Internet Special Button near Power Button

Hello

I have the same notebook model and disabling option is not known to me. What you can try is to remove ?Button support? utility from Value Added Package.

In Control Panel you will find option ?Programmes and Features?. Click to remove VAP. Usually it should ask you to change the installation and you can choose which part of this package can be deleted, if not remove VAP completely.

Download the latest option from Toshiba download page but when the installations starts choose Custom installation and remove check mark in front of ?Button support? utility.

So at the moment I see this as only possible solution.

HI: As with many people, the LCD hinge on my Y510 broke. After repacing the broken hinge, we found that the laptop would only boot using the NOVO key and not the power button.  (The power button light is on when the unit is booted - it just doesn't work.) As well, if we put the laptop to sleep, nothing happens when you press the power button or the NOVO button. The only thing that we can do is unplug the laptop, pull out the battery and reboot. I took it to a reputable repair place and they could see no damage to any wires in terms of the LCD hinges being replaced. Hibernation seems to work fine - but it takes longer to shut down/boot up than shutting down and cold booting in VISTA. Because Windows VISTA is so slow at booting up, it is such a pain to have to power down all the time. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on? (I've considered doing a restore to see if it's software related  - but it seems to be a hardware issue.) Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer. Dave

Hi,
In reference to the following posting, http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19676126:
I am not the individual who initiated this query but I did have the same issue with my Dell Inspiron 5547, where it wouldn't turn on after a power button shut down.
I followed Hema's instructions by removing the battery and charger and then holding down the power button for a few seconds, and then putting back the parts. It seemed to have done the trick... At least for now. Is this just a temporary fix?
While doing a Google search for a solution I seem to have encountered a number of people who experienced the same issue. Can you also explain why this happens with this particular Dell laptop? Is it a model flaw?
Thank you

Hi every one,
Recently I purchased new PC,
After installing windows XP Pro SP3 I found that there is a missing button in Power option properties. The missing button is (When I press the sleep button on my computer), I can find only (When I press the power button on my computer).
My system configuration is as follow
Mother board Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Rev 1.1
My graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5670
Windows XP SP3
RAM 4Gb Kingston DDRII
CPU Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz
It worth saying that I can shutdown, hibernate or put my PC into sleep mode, so the functions are working but only the button is missing.
I will appreciated very much if some can advise me how to restore the missing button. Is there some option in BIOS that will enable this button?
I contacted Gigabyte customer support, but they directed me to Microsoft, I also contacted ATI but they directed me to Microsoft or BIOS settings. In my BIOS I can't find any option that may affect this button. Any advise will be appreciated
Best regards

Answer:[SOLVED] Button of (When I press sleep button) is not available in my Power option pr

Does the case actually have a separate Sleep Button? I suspect it's not even connected, as the motherboard manual doesn't show a connection for a Sleep Button, only a Power Button.
Windows Power Options won't list it, as it doesn't exist.

If you have a Sleep Button on the keyboard, it might not be listed in Power Options either. That would be up to the Driver software to add that option. You may have to use the software that came with the keyboard to configure the sleep button on the keyboard.

I have a Y530 laptop.  It originally came with Windows Vista.  I upgraded it to Windows 7 several months ago.  Lately the laptop will not come on using the power button. I have tried all the suggested remedies -- remove the battery, remove the power cord, hold the power button down for 15 seconds, reinstall the battery, reinstall the power cord.  It still will not come on using the power button. I find that if I press the "One Key" -- the key above the power button, the laptop comes on but goes to the Recovery page.  I tried doing a recovery one time, but was presented with a screen telling me there was an error with some files during the recovery.  I can understand this since I'm sure the recovery partition was designed for Windows Vista and things do not work correctly since the computer is now running Windows 7. The next time I turned the computer on using the "One Key" -- the power button still does not work -- I skipped the recovery and had the computer reboot instead.  The computer booted into Windows 7 and worked fine. This is not the ideal situation when I want to boot the computer.  I do not want to have to go to the recovery screen and reboot from there. Is there any way to get my computer to respond to the power button again? Thank you for your help, Dan Wilkinson

Hey Peregrin72,  Great question! You could first try changing your default Internet Browser setting in Windows.  1. Click the Start button 2. Type 'default'3. Click Default Programs4. Click Set Your Default Programs5. Click on the desired browser and then click Set this program as default.  Let me know the results of that change. There is also a registry change that may help.

I recently replaced the hard disk in my Yoga2 with an SSD - it is not yet formatted. The plan is to boot from a USB stick that I prepared as a Windows 8 recovery medium - but first I need to get into the BIOS to turn on legacy booting. In the past, I was always able to get into the BIOS wih the Novo button, but ever since I replaced the hard disk, the Novo button acts as a power button and gives me the message "No bootable device found". How do I get into the BIOS?

Answer:Yoga2 11 - Novo button acts as power button

Just press F2 (repeatedly) at boot time.

My side buttons work fine. My touch screen scrolls, and lets me open programs. But I can't exit out. I can't get further and further into to programs (ex. open outlook, open an email, send a response) but then I can't exit. I'm stuck there until I power down and restart. this is a nokia lumia by the way.

Answer:My return/exit program button and windows button won't work, what should I do?

There are many Lumia models...
Is it an 830 by any chance? With a screen protector? It is a known issue that the capacitive buttons on 830 lack sensitivity and a screen protector may block their use.

Question: no power to tower!

I just got back from being out of town; went to check my email and my computer won't turn on. Everything else is getting power just fine: printer, scanner, router, modem, keyboard, screen. The light won't even come on on the tower. I have: unplugged and replugged from tower and the wall; tried a different and known-to-work power cord; used the toggle on the back of the tower to turn on and off; held the on button in for 5-10 seconds; opened up the case and made sure everything inside is seated firmly.

Any thoughts? I'm a pretty basic user but can follow directions!

Thanks.

Im working on Compaq something tower. Doing a favor for the mother in law. This tower is her co-workers and asked if I could look at it.

At first glance, all the internal cables and wired are firmly attached. So I direct my attention to the power source, It is equipped with a green led light (to tell its getting power I assume). This little green light is not lighting up when plugged in. Its doing nothing. Power source model is a Bestec ATX-250-12z

Any ideas or suggestions?

Answer:Tower not getting power?

Hi garaboldi,

This might sound daft, but I've done it before. Have you made sure that you have plugged it in and switched on at the wall socket? Is there power to the wall socket? Try with another appliance that you know is working. Does the fuse need changing in the plug, and is the wiring secure?

I updated to windows 10, 2 weeks ago and have had no problems until last night. I've restarted my computer and tried everything I could think of to fix it, but nothing has worked.

Answer:My start button, search bar, or my new notification button won't work?,

hmmm, sounds like registry fault... happened to my dads pc win 10 installation after trying to change C/Users/Username paths to another Username folder. Try this sfc /scannow in admin Cmd prompt. Try this windows+r type netplwiz, go to properties and compare username with your username path in c/users/username. If they don't match that's the problem, they need to match! Restart Pc and start, search etc will work. Download Malwarebytes and scan. If not open system restore and restore PC to an earlier point. But I guess you're using some cleaning utility like CC cleaner and so on... Uninstall that, it causes some serious issues, and breaks more stuff than fixes. And for last resort do a clean win 10 install. :D

This is going to sound so weird, but bear with me...

I just got a Qosmio x770/00x a couple of weeks ago, mostly for gaming purposes.
I play in left-handed configuration, using the Num pad as directional keys, with some of the other non-directional numbers mapped to things like 'jump' and 'melee', etc.

I have the '1/End' key mapped usually to the 'Crouch' motion in games, and noticed that if I press the '6/Right' key, in combination with any other number key, the '1/End' key won't register!
This means if I'm moving Forwards in a game, and Strafe to the right, I can't simultaneously crouch.

I've done a bit of playing around, and it seems that this bug isn't limited to my unit, or to any particular program. If you try a similar thing in any other program (eg Notepad), and hold the '6' key down along with any other number key, the '1' key won't register.

However it seems that it *has* to be the '6' key in the combination (eg. if you press '4' and '7' together, and then press '1', the '1' will still register.

Have also tried this on the store demo model at the local computer place, and it seems that it's a problem with this particular model.

The store computer runs Windows 7 Home Premium.
I'm running Win7 Pro. BIOS and Windows are fully updated.

Have also tried it on my older P-series Satellite, and that doesn't have the same problem.

Any ideas?

I?ve got 2 notebooks from two different manufactures and the button 1 does not register if 6 + other button is pressed.

Don?t think it?s a really a keyboard bug because this happen with my two notebooks which are not really similar to each other?

So yesterday I tried to turn on my Pc at home. the lights on the tower turned on for a split moment and poof...like a fart in the wind, it was gone
I checked my motherboard and Ram Strips for visual burns or discrepency, but they look as new as they where when I first got them

I assume that leaves either my Hard drive or my Power Supply went out...is there anyway to check for these flaws without taking everything apart?

or anything I might be missing as far as trouble shooting goes?
thanks!

Answer:Solved: Why won't my Tower Power on

I left for the weekend with the computer on, but screen saver running..blah blah....I come back to the power off in my room. It seemed that there was a surge or the breaker popped. But, now that the power is back on everything in my room is fine, except the computer tower. The monitor, speakers and everything else is fine, but the tower won't turn on. I even used the same power cord for a different tower in my room and that turns on, but my computer won't. Anyone have any suggestions, I'm kind of stumped and tapped out on ideas?

Answer:Possible power surge, now tower won't come on

Top suspect would be the power supply, it's the first thing in the line of any surges.

When I boot up my system, it gets to the CD drive and then the hard drive light comes on, but it doesn't go past that. It just hangs and the monitor doesn't show the boot up progress.

But...

If I turn on the power, then off, then on again real quick, the system beeps, and boots up like normal.

I am assuming it is a power button malfunction or power gone bad on the tower in general.

But...

When I go to shutdown, it does its usual thing, but then there is no "it is now safe to shutdown" screen, and the hard drive light is red and hangs, but whenever I boot up, it doesn't try to scan for errors. So the system thinks it is shutting down like normal.

I downloaded and installed the latest Via Hyperion 4 in 1 drivers, which my motherboard works off of, and it didn't help.

I have the latest update for McAfee and it doesn't find any viruses.

Question: Mini-tower Power

Got a store-bought Gateway SX-2800 model which is a mini-tower. Upgrading the video card, and as a result I am also upgrading the power supply.

Being a mini-tower, will it definitely need a specialized power supply, or will a standard PSU work?

If it needs a specialized PSU where do you suggest getting them and how - would I take the dimensions of my PSU and then talk to a manufacturer? Or would buying a new case along with a standard PSU be cheaper?

Hello. My new (1) month old computer has no power. It's a tower but has a power supply on the cord like a laptop.90W 19.5V.My multimeter says it is only putting out 16 volts.Computer does nothing. Would a 3.5 volt drop in this power cause this?HP support only open 9-5 M-F and it's Sat night.Seems like such a small power supply for even the little tower this is.Can I get this under warranty? Thanks for your time.Robert

Answer:Will this PSU(Power supply) Fit my tower?
