Plantronics Headset not Working

Question: Plantronics Headset not Working

Hey all im new here

I'm trying to use a pair of Plantronics headphones with a microphone on them

they headphones work perfectly fine with crystal clear sound quality

however, the microphone is not working AT ALL

I used a different set of PLantronics headphones with my laptop and they worked perfectly (headphones and microphone)

however they are now lost somewhere and I wish to be able to use these headphones to talk to my friends on Ventrillo.

I've read a bunch of threads on mike problems on this website, and none of them are like my problem.

Excuse me if I am in the wrong section, as I said, im new to this website

Please help me! :(

Preferred Solution: Plantronics Headset not Working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Today I bought a platronics headset. It features a microphone and headphones.

It connects to the PC with two leads, one for the microphone and one for the headphones.

I plugged in both. The microphone is not detected, and does not display as an option for a voice device in the sound and audio device control panel. Also, sound plays through both the headset and the speakers.

The setup I want is for normal sounds to send through the speakers, and for voice to be send via the headset.

Why is this so screwy? :S I've restarted my PC, etc etc etc.

This problem has me completely stumped.

Suddenly I have skype problems. Using a Logitech C910 or 620 webcam I get perfect video. Audio works well for about a minute and then it cuts out. I have to switch the input from the C910 to the Realtek drivers for a moment and then, after switching back to the 910, it works just fine for another minute. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I went to the sound control panel and found that none of my USB devices are working for audio input. Blue Yeti microphone - negative. Can't get it to work with Skype at all. Can't even get the control panel >> hardware & sound >> manage audio devices and I see the microphone is set to level zero and muted. I click the mute button to unmute, raise the level to 80.

I go to any audio program. It works for 10 seconds and then the control panel does the same - zeroes out the volume and puts all the devices into mute. It's incredibly irritating.

Nothing has worked. Remove and reinstall all drivers. Remove all Logitech drivers. Remove and reinstall latest Realtek drivers. Cannot seem to beat this problem. Volume is constantly zeroed out. Even when applications are supposed to control the audio source (like skype) it does the same.

Using a Plantronics headset works fine. It is the only device that works without a problem. Yet at least 3 other devices, all by different manufacturers and well support too (like the Blue Yeti) exhibit this recurring issue. Hope someone can help isolate it as Google Voice... Read more

Hello, I bought a "Plantronics Audio 60 Stereo PC Headset" from amazon awhile ago, and I'm not *entirely* sure if it actually worked from the beginning...but it sure as hell isn't workin now.

*Running halflife*

Well anyway, it works GREAT when I do sound recording (Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Sound Recorder) but when I try to do it in a game, no one can hear me (when I did the voice tweak, it plays kinda staticy the thing that I said, then repeats it over and over again, getting louder each time. The other config option doesn't help either) Has anyone else experienced problems with this product, or any product and experienced the same problem..? Is it fixable, or will I have to get support from plantronics? Thanks in advance.

I recently bought a Plantronics headset, and plugged it in my microphone jack. It says "Line IN" when I try to use it with audacity, but when I record, and even yell into it, nothing shows up on the line. My laptop has 2 headphone jacks and a mic jack. Could this be the problem?

Answer:Plantronics Audio .326 Headset not working on Inspiron 1525 Mic Jack

If you have plugged the microphone part of the headset into the "Mic" jack on the PC and using the "line in" to listen that is incorrect. Generally, Audacity uses the "Stereo Mix" to record. With Stereo Mix set as the default recording device any input is "heard".

Second, if you are plugging the mic into the "line In", that is incorrect and the mic will never work. A computer mic needs +5V DC to operate. The Mic in jack has the 5V, a line in does not and is a stereo (2 channel) input.

You list a Dell Desktop in your System Specs but are referring to a Dell Inspiron 1524 "Laptop". ???

Hi:

I'm running Windows XP Pro 32 bit and I have set up my Plantronics Audio355 headset. I calibrated the mic without any problem and tested the mic. It showed that it's recording my voice well within the 20 to 80% perameters.at between 40 and 70%. However, when I try to play online with my friends using my headset with TeamSpeak, version 3.0., they tell me they cannot hear me.

I tried using the wizard but that didn't work either.

If someone could assist me in solving this problem I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks and I look forward to you quick response.

Regards.

Answer:Plantronics Headset

Sounds like a TeamSpeak configuration issue (most likely) or TeamSpeak doesn't support that mic (which shouldn't be an issue as Windows recognizes the mic).

So recently I bought a Plantronics Pro 1 headset, my problem is whenever I plug my headset into my laptop I get really choppy sound from all of my programs. The things that bothers me is that when I plug it into my desktop computer, it works fine. I'm wondering if this could be a problem with the driver or codex? Appreciated.

I just got a whole new computer and changed from vista 32 to 64 bit. Everything is running great except for my headset which is a plantronics dsp 500 usb headset. I got this cd when I bought the headset ages ago. If I install the contents of the cd (which is a program called persono) nothing really happens. It's there but It can't find my headset. The headset is plugged in as usual and with persono installed it should be working since that's all it took on the 32 bit OS. I can't find any vista drivers for it on the web and vista can't seem to detect it's plugged in. Nothing shows up in the sound options except for my speakers which work correctly.

Is plantronics dsp 500 just not compatible with vista 64 bit or is there some solution? Would really like to have my headset and microphone working.

Evening lads,

I've recently purchased a 'Plantronics Skype-ready Audio 45 USB Stereo PC Headset' - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0002ZDS4S/202-1788481-0147842?v=glance&n=560798

The headphones work when plugged into the headphone socket on the back of my tower, or when plugged into the headphone socket in my Creative volume control (which comes with some of their more recent audio systems), though the headset came bundled with a USB device which you can plug both headset and mic into, though when I do this sound continues playing on my speakers as opposed to the headphones, despite the fact that I've enabled my computer to automatically detect headphones and switch to them as an audio output. Might this just be down to a dodgy USB socket or device? There was no bundled software with the headset so I imagine that it's not to do with drivers etc.

However, I can cope with this - as I said all I have to do is plug it into the volume control, so no problem (though it would be nice to know why it's not working around the back with the USB if anyone has any clues).

The mic, however, works neither when attached to the USB device, nor when plugged in to the volume control. It does work when plugged in to the microphone socket in the back of the tower, so it's not a problem with the mic per se. I've fiddled around changing various input options, none of which allow it to work with anything except the rear socket. It's a... Read more

I just got the MX500i to use for online gaming as a microphone. However, when I plug it into my Vista machine, it tells me that it can't find the drivers to install the DSP55 USB adapter used to convert the 2.5mm jack to USB. It keeps asking me for a CD, but Plantronics doesn't get one with the MX500i, since it installs under XP without a hitch.

I know Vista has issues with DRM and the USB audio devices through the USBAUDIO.sys file, but I got the hotfix and applied that and even replaced the .sys file with one from an XP machine. Neither worked.

I've been reading reviews where the writer talked about how great it worked for Vista's voice recognition, so I know the thing can work in Vista. Can anyone help me out here?

I need a USB Audio Driver for this headset so i can control the volume etc. The generic Vista USB Sound drivers dont work worth crap.

The Stereo Mix doesnt work at all for me. I have my Via HD sound card drivers installed and up to date.

I need a USB Audio Driver for Vista x64 for this headset. Plantronics website does not have any kind of drivers on it for the USB headsets and expect us to use the Vista generic drivers.

Does anyone have this driver?

Answer:Plantronics Gamecom 777 USB Headset Driver

I am looking for similar drivers. I have a pair of Plantronics GameCom Pro-1 headphones that recently stopped working when I had to redo Vista. All other sound works, all other USB headphones and other devices work. Windows recognized that the drivers are "installed and up to date" but there is a driver problem still. Plantronics has basically passed the buck and says its a Vista problem.

Just thought I'd let everyone know about this:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/2006/0627-halo2headsetbenefit.htm

Plantronics and Xbox are having a promo for that Halo 2 headset - got great reviews, never used one myself - for $14.95, or $19.95 if you need a communicator also.

$1 of each sale goes to the United Way Katrina Recovery Fund.

I believe you would need the communicator also for it to work on the 360 but I'm not sure - just ordered one myself anyways

I've been using the below headset for over a year.

This weekend, when I went out of town, I unplugged them to pack them up and use when I got to my desto, but when I plugged it back in, my mic wouldn't work. And now that I'm back home, it's still not working.

Despite checking in recording tab under sound options and made sure it was the default device, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, making sure the mute button on the headset isn't on, ran Windows update and restarted multiple times from all of my attempts, it's still no bueno. What has me even more confused is that when I'm on Teamspeak or Mumble, my game buddies can see me light up when I use my push to talk but they can't hear me. I can hear them however so it's just the mic that I'm having an issue with.

http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/gamecom-788

Here is a screen shot of my devices until the recording tab under the sound option. After I reinstalled the drivers from Plantronics, I see a Line device (which looks like it should go to a game console which I don't have) and an SPDIF Interface device which I've also never seen before. I don't remember seeing the Stereo Mix device either to be honest.

I have all devices showing in case that becomes a question next. I even work in ITS and this one has got me stumped. Something like this should be relatively easy. I've always just been able to switch back and forth between default devices for switching headset or on board speakers.

Thank you so ... Read more

Hi there, wonder if anyone can offer any advice on this one as I've spent hours on it and got nowhere. I've got an X220T and I've just upgraded to the latest Bluetooth due to being unable to identify my headset. I was quite thorough and uninstalled all the old drivers and software first as well as making sure windows update couldn't draw drivers from the site. I then installed the latest (6.5.1.2700) drivers for the bluetooth chipset. My problem is that I have a new Plantronics Voyager Pro HD headset (one which I have fully updated the firmware on) and I can't for the life of me even get Windows 7 (64bit) to recognise it's existence when I put it in pairing mode let alone start to struggle with drivers and getting the mic to work. I know the headset works fine because it pairs perfectly with my Galaxy Nexus and I know my bluetooth is both on (I can see the light) and that it is discoverable (I can pick it up and pair on my mobile as well as my bluetooth mouse). Has anyone got any ideas how I go about getting these two to play nice without having to buy a usb adapter, which would be very annoying given the built in bluetooth? Any ideas much appreciated; little bit at the end of my tether with this one.

Answer:X220T - Bluetooth - Plantronics Voyager Pro HD Headset

Good Morning, you may try the following:

first make sure that the device to which you want to connect is enabled for the Bluetooth connection. Make sure that no other Bluetooth-enabled device is searching for the device to which you want to connect. Simultaneous searching is not allowed in the Bluetooth connection. After making sure of the above, turn the Bluetooth power off and then on again with Fn+F5 Wireless Radio Control, or restart your computer. Then search for the device again.
If that doesn't work, try the following:
Make sure your Bluetooth Headset is a "Stereo Headset" with A2DP support.
Enable Bluetooth in Access Connection by holding Fn + F5
Bluetooth Status - "On"
Double click on the Bluetooth Icon at the taskbar (Screen below)
Ensure your Bluetooth Headset is in "Paring Mode"
Click on "Add a Bluetooth Device"
Click Next
Search for your Bluetooth Headset
When found, click Next and enter the passcode for your Bluetooth Headset
If you are unsure of the passcode for the Bluetooth Headset, kindly contact the Bluetooth Headset's manufacturer or check the headset manual.
Once the passcode has been entered, click Next and the pairing will show that it has been successfully connected.
Now your Bluetooth icon in the taskbar will have a bit of green color in the center.

I bought a Plantronics Backbeat 903 stereo headset with a store brand 100m bluetooth dongle a couple of days ago so I can listen to my computer wirelessly and not disturb my neighbors. The sound is crystal clear, it's light weight and barely noticeable I'm wearing it. So I'm fairly happy so far. There are a couple of drawbacks like the signal fails at times. For instance if I change rooms. The manual for the headset does mention this but I am wondering if another dongle could improve the signal at all.

I don't have a microwave oven (I don't like them), nor a cordless phone. I turned off my mobile as it is connected to my pc with BT. I disconnected my wifi modem. I'm not even sure if Bluetooth has the same interference issues that occurs with wifi. None of that seemed to improve or impair performance anyway.

Does anyone have any ideas as I am just short of being completely, impressively satisfied with it.

The other issues are reconnecting as sometimes I need to turn off and disconnect the dongle to get it working again. But I attribute that to not knowing how to use it properly. I press buttons randomly hoping one will reconnect and I'm pleasantly suprised when it works. It has trouble with speech recognition too but that's another story.

Also (sorry for the length) when I go to Device and Printers it doesn't show up. I'm curious why not.

With Windows XP I could go to the control panel and use a slider to increase or decrease the sensitivity of the input signal from a USB microphone. In Windows 7 i couldn't find a similar control in the SmartAudio or Sound control panels. I have to move the mic away from my mouth to reduce the input. How do you do it? thanksm

Answer:Windows 7, Plantronics USB headset. How do I reduce the input level? It's distorting.

Right click the speaker icon on the taskbar, look in "Playback devices" and "Recording devices". Which also happens to be the same place this function has always been.

But it seems not to respond to PAUSE / PLAY for the MP3s.
Anyone got a Plantronics Bluetooth & does PAUSE / PLAY work OK?

Answer:Are Lumia phones compatible with Plantronics Marque2 M165 Bluetooth Headset?

You could have provided a link to ensure that people can look at the right product. Going by the part number given you don't have an audio headset. According to the manual there is a call button and volume control. Nothing about listening to MP3s.
This headset is designed to be used to answer calls and work as a hands free device. If you wanted to listen to audio you should buy an audio headset.

So i just bought a Plantronics Audio 355 From EbGames IN AUS

HOW do i fix this, AND I KNOW its not muted.

Has any microphone worked in this PC?

Make sure the microphone plug is fully inserted. If you are plugging into the front panel microphone jack, try the PINK mic jack on the rear.

Is there another PC you can try this on? If you don't have one, a friend's PC.

Hey
Today i just bought some ear phones, with a connected mouth piece. Problem is that my two front ports are dodgy for the microphone and headphones. So if i put the jacks from my headset into the back, i have to take out my speaker input.. Is there any way i can have the speakers in, and the headset and revert back to each without going at the back and changing them? Any help appreciated
Thanks

Answer:Headset not working, front ports not working

First, its possible inside your computer case, there is just a loose cable that is causing the problem with the front jacks on your computer. Check inside, right behind where the earphone jack is for a cord running to somewhere on your motherboard or Sound card.

If that dosn't work,
Do you have a CD/DVD player with a earphone jack and have you tried that?
Assuming its the port that is bad itself and not just loose, you could check in at radio shack, bestbuy, or newegg.com for a cord that splits the output. If you get lucky you might find one with a chanel select that will allow you to swap which recieves the output.
The other option, from radio shack I got a Bluetooth USB adapter for $20 and a good pair of BT earphones, again purchased online for cheap (I recommend samsung BT500 earphones).

Another alternative, my speakers have a earphone jack in them as well (the computer speakers, as well as the reciever I currently have my sound card plugged into).

If you have a quality home theater set up, for $80 on new egg you can pick up a good soundcard with optical, Coax, and AV out which you plug into your home entertainment center that again will allow you to use headphones.
Good Luck

I am having issues with my usb headphones. I normally used them all the time but I didn't over the weekend. Now they are not working.

HP Digital Stereo Headset, model VT501AA, plug and play. I have had them for quite some time and have never had issues. Some of the audio plays fine. The best explanation is that while playing music, the background comes through fine, maybe even a bit loud, but the vocals are almost entirely muffled in comparison. Questions I saw while looking into the issue say to move it around, but of course that doesn't work with USB like a traditional headset.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver several times. I tried it in other usb ports and tried my usb mouse in that usb port.

Another detail, the headset no longer makes the "beep boop" when plugging in or removing like it did.

Answer:USB Headset Not Working

Hi DKong27 and welcome to TSG.

Any chance you can try the headset on a different computer ? That should determine if it's the headset or your computer that's having a problem.

I assume yours is an HP laptop, what model is it ?

I just bought a Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset and the microphone does not seem to work. The headphones themselves work fine though and I get great audio. I plugged them into a different computer and the mic and headphones worked fine. My computer is using a Asus M2n32 SLI deluxe mobo and does not have a seperate sound card. I have made sure the mic is on, plugged in right, and not muted. Also Im using XP 64 bit

Update: I got the mic to work, but instead of being clear and nice like on the laptop, I have to talk loudly and there is a LOT of static and random noise.

Update 2: I plugged a MP3 Player into the microphone jack using a 2 way connector and hit play. I have to max out the MP3 Players volume to hear it and also the recorded audio is terrible also with a lot of static.

I just bought a Logitech Premium Stereo headset (the 3.5 plug one, not the USB) and only just a few minutes ago tried them, plugged them in the soundcard in their corresponding slots, yet they don't work, not even after reinstalling updated drivers. I've been told that they might be faulty, but when I ran a test for them, mic and headphones both registered sounds, but I couldn't hear them...

I got a Creative Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 soundcard, which is quite old, and a really old MB, Via KuDo something...

Any ideas anyone?

What type of cable is it? If you had to get a adapter of any sort in order for it to plug into your sound card jack on your system; there is a chance that windows might not be able to pick it up.

I have Windows 7 64 bit. It is up to date. All drivers are up to date. All sound works. The issue I have is that out of nowhere my headset stopped working. Its functional. I have tested it. I cannot work out why it stopped picking up on this PC.

I have tried everything. I will say this again. I have done everything to make it pick up. Someone please help. I am desperate to get this to work. The last thing I want to do is to reinstall Windows.

I bought a Natec Genesis HX55 USB headset. The first time I plugged it in I heard audio which was quite loud and clear. A few minutes later it got quieter and more static'y. Now there is absolutely no sound. I have contacted their customer support to no avail. It shows up in my list of playback devices and when I play a video or some music the little green bars move to show there's sound but absolutely nothing is coming through the headphones. Pulling my hair out over this as I can't find any help or solutions and I need it for work. Some assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running Windows 8.1 x64(Unfortunately).

HI all

I used to use a USB headset and the sound and mic worked fine. But alas, the headset kicked the bucket and died last week. I bought a bright shiny new expensive headset, the Carcharias by Razer.

Well, this headset has the mic and audio jack and not a usb. I plugged it in.... the audio sounds great but for the life of me, I cannot get the mic to work. I have it plugged in the back of my PC right into the sound card. Pink in pink, green in green. LOL But it wont work.

Help?
I dont really know where to go from here.

I have gone to the control panel - sounds - Audio tab, In sound recording field, the drop down box doesnt show anything other than SB XFI Audio which is my sound card.

Same thing in the Voice tab under voice recording. Just my soundcard. No option for the headset.

I recently got a new headset to replace my broken one and noticed that the only cords on this headset are a 3.5mm green audio cord and a usb. I figured that the recording device would be the usb since there's no mic in, but I'm having issues making this work. As far as I could find, there's no drivers for this headset posted anywhere online or on any official site.

The headset is found here with all it's details: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIABRY4YW7133

I should note that the audio works fine and it's just the microphone isn't getting picked up.

Okay. There is a Dell computer that is connected to the linksys router, broadband cable and the logitech headset, all of this means that the cable comes into the home to the router it splits to the computer and the ps2. Here's the problem. The headset does not work on any of the ps2 games. The headset is brand new. Walk me through step by step on how to make the silly thing work. I know nothing of computers or routers, and all this other stuff. So if you have ideas or help please please please make it step by step basic stuff. Thanks.

Hello,

Recently I bought a Turtle Beach Earforce X12 headset. And the sound works fine but when I tried out
the Microphone nothing happened, like it wasn't there. I have updated my drivers several times tried but no success. When I go to Recording section in Sound, it shows the microphone as a default device but when I click on it there is a red light not a green light

Answer:My headset microphone not working

The first thing I see is you do not have the correct RealTek sound driver (what Gigabyte shows for this model) installed. All you have is the generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec driver.

Install the RealTek driver from the Gigabyte downloads for your motherboard as the first step.

It does not appear you have the correct AMD driver installed for your video card either. Go to www.amd.com and download and install the correct driver.

Considering the sound and video do not have the correct drivers, you need to take a look at all the drivers. Gigabyte provides an install disc with all the drivers and apparently that was not used. However, DO NOT install the Gigabyte EasyTune program, if its on the disc as that is known to cause problems. (EasyTune6 was supplied with my Gigabyte motherboard)

One other comment. I seriously doubt that you have 1TB of RAM (Memory). That is probably the size of your hard drive.

Answer:headset mic isnt working

1: Make sure they are plugged in correctly.
2: Make sure the 'Line In' or 'Mic' is not muted.
3: Update the drivers, if there is no newer version reinstall the current ones.
4: Test the mic in another computer.
5: Enjoy your sound input experience / Buy a new microphone. =(

Ok so i've been researching and i can not figure out what happened to my mic. its a logitech and I used it about 4 months ago and it worked fine. but when i try it now, it doesn't pick up anything ...it works on a computer with XP but not on mine with vista. Apparently one of the Vista updates messed it up.
-its plugged in the right jacks, i've tried the 2 different sets on my computer, still nothing
-I have sound through the headset speakers'
-In the "Setup Microphone" under "Speech Recognition" where you speak the sentence, the Green Bar doesnt move unless i have the Microphone Boost at max but even then it just bounces a little and doesnt pick up any sound.

-**I've tested it on a computer with XP and it worked**
-The drivers are up to date, im using Realtek HD Audio
- It's not muted, everything that says Microphone i have up
- it says the mic is working properly, ...but not so much

- i've tried everything i can think of and still nothing.

*the only thing i see that i think is different is that in "Playback" tab in the "Sound" options it only says speakers, not headset/headphones etc. Under the "Recording" tab, it has the mic there and it says its working, but its not

Hi lloydikins, welcome to the forums.

Can you do me a favour and right click the empty space where playback devices are shown, now click on "show disabled devices", this should bring up something called stereo mix, right click that and enable, now... With the headset on, can you hear anything from the microphone when you talk?

Also, the operating system doesn't show a headset as you're using analog jacks, it's just an audio device, it cannot detect a headset through analog jacks...

Just bought a brand new Razer Piranha Gaming Communicator (Headset). Plugged it all in as normal, sound works perfectly, everything seemed fine, except my microphone isn't working for some reason. Just wondering why that is I have tried different ports, sockets, computer meets the system reqs. Why isn't it working? Is there something specific I need to install? My sound from the headphones is fine, but why isnt the mic working?

The computer is a HP, model a6157c, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4400 @ 2.00 GHz 2.00GHz 2038 MB, 32-bit OS. The headset is brand new from Best Buy, came in a sealed box. Didn't install any drivers or in any way install it, just plugged it in the plugs and the sound worked immediately, but the Mic still doesn't and hasn't worked.

Hi guys,

I have a USB Headset that I have used several times in the past but now I find I cannot hear anything. Volumes OK, indicator light is on etc.
Hears what is my Device Manager re. Sound, Video and Game controllers:-
- Audio Codecs,
- AVerMedia H788 PCIe Hybrid Analog/ATSC,
- Legacy Audio Drivers,
- Legacy Video Capture Devices,
- Media Control Devices,
- Realtek High Definition Audio,
- USB Audio,
- Video Codecs.

Double clicking each of the above reports that each is 'working properly.'
There are no warning or other icons associated with any of the above.

I have a volume control at the right-hand end of the task bar which, it indicates is related to Realtek HD Audio Output. It is not muted and the volume is set mid-way.

I also have a Realtek HD Audio Manager icon on the same right-hand end; when I choose it, it displays an ASUS control panel for what looks like various sound programs. I do not use this.

What I am wondering is if there is a device conflict of some sort with any of the above devices. I suspect the AVerMedia and the Realtek are in conflict, but that's just this idiot's opinion.

Any ideas how I could get my headphones workjing again?

Could I disable / remove any of the above devices/drivers without limiting my audio or video enjoyment?

Richard

I don't know where else to turn so I thought I would make a post here.

Today I bought these headphones.
Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset | Creative Labs Online Store

And they don't work.
When I go into Playback/Recording devices they are not being listed as options, only my regular speakers and mic are being listed. When I plug the Headset in no sound comes through my laptop speakers but it does not come out my headset speakers either.

Some things to know, my computer is Windows 7 64bit And I know the Headphones are not broken. Also, as a reminder, this particular headset plugs into the two Headphone and Mic jacks, not a USB. I have made sure they are plugged into the correct slot. I am on a laptop so I only have the two available jacks. One for Microphone and one for headset.

Answer:New Gaming Headset not working.

Have you looked in the Creative support pages for anything unique about these headphones and if anything specific you need to do to get them to work - I agree that these should work "out the box" but it seems strange they are not even recognized when you plug them in - do they appear in Device Manager ?

I have a headset that works on my other computer, but isn't working on this one. I've tried switching soundcards, and I don't know if that's part of the problem. The sound works fine, but it won't pick up the microphone. It didn't work with the built-in soundboard either.

Check the RECORDING device. Stereo Mix should be set as the Default recording device. Most programs use that as the audio source.

Hello everyone and sorry if I posted this in the incorrect section!

So, I love to record when I play to upload to Youtube and I currectly own an Elgato Game Capture. Since I use a DVI-D cable to my monitor and the HDMI does not send any audio to the Elgato (Using Elgato as a third screen but mirror it with my main one) I've been using Stereo Mix to get audio to my recording.

This has been working well except for that I can't use the audio plugs on the front of my computer, only those in the back. Nonetheless, I have not really cared since I could do either way. When I have it plugged into the front Stereo Mix is totally dead and does not send any audio to the Elgato, making my clips without audio.

Now, I've bought a new headset that's wireless and uses USB instead of audio plugs. And I've been having the same problems like before...Stereo Mix is totally dead when the wireless headset is the "standard" one. I could have both headsets plugged in but it's still dead. If I switch over so the OLD headset is standard it works as a charm, just like before. This forces me to use my old headset which I don't want to

TL;DR

Stereo Mix does ONLY work if I have a wired headset plugged into the back of my computer, otherwise no.

Any help is appreciated, thanks for reading!!

I purchased (what I thought looked like) a nice USB gaming headset to use with Ventrilo. It is a "Sector7 Xtreme Gaming USB 5.1" headset (or something along those lines), fairly unknown I suppose.

Anyhow, I'm running Windows Vista 32bit on an HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop, and although I have managed to get the headphones themselves working, the mic piece that plugs into one side of the headset will not read my voice.

What further drives me crazy is the fact that after the initial hour of fiddling around, installing drivers and such, I had the microphone and headphones working in perfect unison. But, after restarting my computer the mic no longer works.

I have reinstalled the headset's driver a few times, and been all over each device in Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Manage Audio Devices making sure my new mic and headphones are the defaults as well as turned up.

I have been read a TON of forums on Vista's microphone quirks, but can't seem to find a solution for my laptop.

Here are a couple screenshots of my sound set-up (Conexant is the built in audio)

I am fairly certain that all of the necessary levels are turned up to 100 (i.e. Line-in, Microphone)

Any ideas?

Answer:USB Headset Line-in Mic not working

USB headsets usually don't need any drivers or extra software, you just plug them in, they get recognized and then you have a new mixer device in the sound properties. Personally I have a Logitech USB headset and when I plug it in, it shows up as an alternate to my on board or sound card mixer device which in my case is Realtek AC97 Audio.

That's in XP but Vista must be similar though I have Vista also and decyphering the audio pathways are still a puzzle to me (over a year in use).

A few hours my headset mic stopped working on my computer and stopped picking up sound from me. It wasn't the mic's problem as it worked on another pc but not mine and was not working with Skype or any recording program. I have uninstalled the ITD Driver, loaded defaults, enabled the device and checked the volume settings with nothing fixing this problem. I am on a HP Pavilion DV7 Laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. The weird part about this is that my mic was working fine a few hours ago and then when I decided to use it again it just stopped. When I go to sound options and try to put in the headset jack in the side, the green bars light up to show that the jack is inserted, but when I talk it takes in nothing. I have tried almost everything including restoring the system to an earlier date and at this point have no idea what to do.

Help is greatly appreciate thank you!

Answer:Headset Mic Jack not working

Some things to check... 1. Doesn't your laptop have a built in mic? If so, see if that works. That may help narrow things down as to whether it is all audio inputs not working or just your headset input 2. Check Control Panel Device Manager to make sure you don't have any yellow exclamation points indicating a driver not installed correctly. 3. Check Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, Manage audio devices, to make sure the correct device is showing up, selected, and configured.

I have a Speedlink Medusa 5.1 headset and Asus Xonar DS sound card and they've both been great ever since I bought them, but yesterday I turned on my PC and my microphone wasn't working. I tried it with Ventrilo and the windows sound recorder but neither of them picked up any sound.
In the windows input devices the microphone is still ticked and is "working" but obviously it is not. I have made sure it isn't muted and that is selected in the Xonar DS control panel and I've tried a system restore but still nothing.
I havn't changed any settings or installed any new hardware recently so that shouldn't be a problem. I've tried my headset in a different PC and it works fine, I've also plugged a different mic into my pc but it didn't work either.
I had to transport my pc in the back of my car a few days ago and I've got a feeling that some connection might have come lose during transport, but I wouldn't have a clue where to start when fixing it.

I have a Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset , the audio work's but I cannot get the mic to work.
I have a Creative soundblaster 5.1 live soundcard and a abit fatal1ty fp-in9 sli m/b. Audio works on both soundcard and on-board sound on the m/b , but not the mic .... I know some basics to computer's but I'm stuck here.

Answer:Headset Microphone not working

Looking at this headset, on a YouTube video, the mic portion plugs into the headset. Has this ever worked? If not, I would contact Creative as there may be a problem. Or, if you have access to another PC (a friend's) you could try it on that to see if it works.

As you have both on-board sound and a separate sound card, if you want to use the SoundBlaster you should disable the on-board in the BIOS. Having two can cause conflicts and things to not work. In addition Windows only allows one default audio playback device. Also, where are you plugging in? If its the front panel of the PC case, what audio do you have connected to the front panel? From the motherboard or from the SoundBlaster? Again, if you are using the SoundBlaster but have the motherboard audio connected to the front panel it won't work.

I have a Fatal1ty motherboard in one of my PC's, it is an ASRock Z77 Professional Fatal1ty.

Using an SB X-FI Xtreme Audio sound card, windows 7 professional, Turtle Beach (x12) headset.

Months ago my microphone stopped working on my pc, then eventually sound also stopped working. I replaced my sound card with another (SB X-FI Xtreme also) and sound once again worked. However I cannot get my Turtle Beach headset microphone to work, the sound works fine.

What I've tried to resolve the solution:
*Checked to make sure it was in the right hole, of course.
*Downloaded recent device drivers for SB X-fFI Xtreme and install.
*Gone through looking for something that might have muted the microphone;

^ I've been trying to check playback using sound recorder.
*Both this headset and another headset that don't work on my pc are fully functional on my laptop.
*Attempted to uninstall device drivers and reinstalled, also didn't work.

Answer:Headset microphone not working

Where are you plugging in the mic? On the front panel or the mic jack on the SoundBlaster sound card rear I/O panel?

Also, you should set the "What You Hear" as the default recording device. That will allow you to record streaming audio from the internet and also whatever is connected either to the mic or line in will record (assuming all is well). I don't see the What You Hear in your Recording pane. RIGHT click in a blank area in that panel and then LEFT click to show Disabled and Disconnected devices. The What You Hear (what Soundblaster calls the System Mixer or Stereo Mix) should now be shown and you can enable it and make it the default recording device.

As you have a separate sound card, make sure the integrated audio on the motherboard is disabled in the BIOS so it does not conflict. You can only have one default playback device.

My Logitech headset with headphones and mic is ureently not working for no reason at all, its a smiple plug in one (not usb) you plug the jacks in to the mic and sound slots, which has been done correctly.

No drivers or anything just plug in and go, but recently it has stopped working its only a cheap pair so its not major just wondered why?

Thanks for any help,

Answer:Logitech Headset No Working!

Are you sure it's the headset? Have you tried real speakers to confirm it's not the soundcard? If speakers still work, there's probably a broken wire. (Logitech quality, you know!)

I'm doing this as a favor for my friend whom has a laptop that has an on board webcamera and a on board microphone. The mic is terrible. I urged her to buy a USB headset so she wouldn't have to deal with the terrible mic. Well she bought one yesterday and we thought it was working. But this morning we found out it wasn't. But it also turns out its not a USB headset, like I urged. We've been trying desperately to disable the on board mic, no such luck, which is why I come here. She has windows vista and I do not. I know nothing of vista, so as you can imagine, trying to figure this stuff out for her is hard. She has a Dell Inspiron 1545 with windows vista on it. She just bought a headset with an attached microphone, but its not registering as the default, instead, its still using the on board mic, but the speakers in the headset are being used as the default, like any plug in headphones would. For the record, I do not know vista at all. Again we spent most of the morning and afternoon trying to figure out how to fix her computer so it would disable her on board mic, and use her shiny new microphone she just bought herself as the default and only mic she has. Any suggestions or ways to solve this? Needs/goals: - Disabling her on board microphone - Making her new headset be used as the default microphone. - Trying to do this without going into BIOS - To find out what windows and options to check/uncheck or mute/unmute to solve this problem. If any information... Read more

Hey, my USB headset has been working for about.........2 years now and it still does work.... My USB ports on the other hand do NOT. I have been searching everywhere and couldn't find a solution so I come here.

I would be most happy if someone can tell me how to fix this below is the problem:

I plugged in my headset (via USB, It is an afterglow PDP) It had been working all this time and all of a sudden it just stopped. So I looked at the Playback devices to select it but instead, it wasn't there.... So i look at my Device Manager, Surprise it wasn't there (NOTE: It is plugged into the one Of 2 USB ports on the left side of my computer. I have 3 total. 1 works. The right one is the only one that works.). So I install Program after program and nothing works. Next, I look at my device, (I have my mouse plugged in on the right side at ALL times.) I unplug my mouse and plug in my headset, and Viola It works. But I'm a gamer that NEEDS his mouse so I need to locate the problem. In device manager i notice an Orange surrounded exclamation point. It is under "Other Devices" I also notice it is called Universal Serial (USB) Controller. With that being said I (being my curious self) click on it, It says unknown device. So i try to update the driver but it says no drivers installed. I'm 50% sure this is the source of my issues. If any1 else can help PLZ DO!!!!

This is driving me mad! I have an XP system and my Logitech W160 webcam works fine in Skype. The integral mic on it works too but I have failed to install an A4-Tech HS-12 headset for better audio.
However, although my SB Live 24 bit card delivers sound to the headset, I have been unable to get the mic working on it (yep, pink plug in pink socket, green on in green socket)if I set mic source to SB card. Tried various mics and nothing seems to register on the meter. I have also tried using the standard C-Media Wave card with no better results.
I have spend ages Googling this and have gone through checking the volume levels, making sure mute isn't on and the right card is selected in Control Panel. When I run the Windows test, it shows nothing on the level meter and tells me it cannot detect a mic. WTF?! Any ideas?

I just bought a PS3 Bluetooth headset and an IOgear micro usb bluetooth dongle. Originally I installed the software provided with the dongle, but after reading on the net discovered that using the WINCOMM drivers provided by Broadcom was the better. I installed the software and drivers, paired the headset, and everything seemed to be working fine, for a day at least. I was talking to a friend of mine via Xfire and left to make dinner. I put the headset in it's charging cradle. When I came back I reconnected with the headset and called my friend again. He could hear me, but I couldn't hear him at all. I checked the Xfire settings and the Vista control panel sound settings. Everything was as it should be. I then unpaired and re-paired the headset. Same result, mic worked fine, but no sound through the speaker. I know the speaker is still functional because it still sends the audio indicators when it connects and disconnects. I tried unpairing and re-pairing the headset multiple times (only once did it ask for the passkey). When this didn't work, I uninstalled the drivers and WINCOMM software, reinstalled using the same software, and still the same results. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: After yet again, uninstalling and installing drivers and software, I discovered that when I connect my headset, only the Audio Gateway becomes active, and not the 'Headset' in Bluetooth devices. See no way to disassociate or associate the headset with the 'He... Read more

Hello Eightforums.

Firstly, my problem is that my headset microphone is not working correctly. As my laptop (Lenovo g505s) only has 1 audio jack, but my headset has 2 cables (green and pink), i bought a 3.5mm headset splitter adapter that splits audio output to 3.5m headphone and 3.5 mic jack. Having plugged it in, I am getting both my internal microphone sounds along with my headset microphone sounds through my headset.

This is what my volume mixer looks like right now: http://i.gyazo.com/6adf9c6e8ddf0f894ce152afc1d7a9dc.png

Answer:Headset Microphone not working

Oh, it seems the problem got solved.

My solution i found on the internet was to go to device manager and then under sound, video and game controllers, i uninstalled the sound drivers. (in my case, AMD High Def Audio Device and Conexant Smart Audio HD)

After both were uninstalled, I restarted my laptop. Then on boot up, the small speaker on bottom right on the desktop has a little red circle on it. I troubleshooted the problem (right click speaker, top option) and it installed something (i assume both the 2 sound drivers I had just uninstalled, since i just checked device manager after it had finished installing and both my previous sound drivers were present). And it seems to work now.

I still don't entirely understand how it worked, but that was my solution.

Hi! I've got a HP P1G57EA Desktop PC and I'm connecting a TRRS headset to the front audio port (the one which has both a microphone and a headphone icon). DTS Sound+ Software prompts a list to select as which type of device I want to connect the headset: line input, microphone input and headset. I've tried the three options and I couldn't make it work as microphone and headphone at the same time (as other computers, laptops and smartphones allow). Now my question is if it's possible to use both at the same time through the mentioned front input or is a hardware restriction that only makes posible to connect a microphone or a headphone to this input. Thank you.

Answer:Usb headset not working in windows 7

Welcome to the Forums.

This support trick works quite often. Boot into safe mode. Delete the driver from Device Manager(in this case the headset.) Reboot normally. Windows should reinstall the driver. This technique seems to work more than half the time. It's well worth trying.

I have a friend who has just purchased a Creative HS-420 headset to use with his Toshiba Satellite Laptop (running Windows 7 Home Premium). The headset cables are plugged into the correct headphone/mic sockets at the front left side of the laptop, and the headphones work fine but the microphone does not work. When I list recording devices in Windows it shows a Conexant device. The recording level on this device flickers very briefly when I plug in the headset, but does not respond when I speak into the mic.

When I plug in a different, standalone microphone it works fine - it's just the mic on the Creative headset that doesn't work.

Does anyone know if this headset requires a separate driver for the microphone? (I can't seem to locate any drivers for it on the Creative website).

Answer:Creative HS-420 headset mic not working

i have had a look and i cant find a separate driver just for the mic.
preform windows update. search automatically for the drivers. if the does work i would suggest calling creative for some advice.

Hello:

The fine single cord from my headset to my tower got caught in the vacuum cleaner the other day and won't work. The insulation was melted.

Oh well!

There are 4 wires involved. One is of copper and about 20 gage. It has a thin black plastic insulation. The 3 others are also copper, of approximately of 27 gage; their insulation is a lacquer-like coating. All the wires are stranded.

I am probably hoping against hope but can anyone tell me if there is some rather smal plug-together connector that I could use to fix things.

And if there is such, where might I obtain such?

If the connector solution is not feasible, is there anything I can do?

Answer:Usb headset not working in windows 7

Is the headset detected by the PC? USB headsets DO NOT use the PC's sound card. They take the digital audio data and convert it to analog audio in the headset. Since the headset converts the digtal to analog, may be a problem in the headset. Is there another PC you can try the headset to see if it works or has the same problem?

I recently got the SADES SA-708 and to my surprise the microphone was not working. I have tested it on another laptop so I know it's not a problem with my headset. I'm not even sure if my computer is recognizing the headset. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Headset microphone not working

Normally, the Stereo Mix (may be called System Mixer) is set as the default Recording Device. Then whatever is plugged in can be heard, without having to specifically select a device.

Did you download the driver from the Dell downloads? If not, that is the first thing to do.

Product Support | Dell US

To set the Stereo Mix, in the Recording panel, RIGHT click in an empty space and then click to select show Disabled and Disconnected Devices. Stereo Mix should now show up and you can enable it and make it the Default Recording device. System Mixer is required if you ever want to record audio from the Internet.

Finally, has this ever worked? or is this the first time you've tried the mic input.

Hello,
I just bought a new Razer headset and I can't seem to get the microphone working. This is the first microphone i've used on this computer. The headset is http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.169415800.
When I built my computer about 2 years ago the CD that came with the motherboard wouldn't work so I downloaded the audio and lan drivers from the motherboard site and everything worked fine. I think that may be the reason my headset microphone will not work now. I just re-downloaded and installed the audio and chipset drivers from http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pr...ilID=897&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=16&LanID=0, but the microphone still will not work. I already checked on its not set to mute on the headset itself.
Is this a driver issue, if so where can I get a driver that will work? Or is it just some option in windows that I have to turn on to allow it to work?
The motherboard is the ECS G31T-M7 with windows 7 64 bit. Intel 2 quad core with nvidia gtx 260 if any of that helps.

Answer:headset microphone not working

If you have access to another PC test the Razer on it; it's possible the mic. itself could be defective.

My experience has been that ECS is (at best) marginal on driver support. If the Razer tests OK and you're tired of playing driver detective it might be worth biting the bullet and purchasing a decent basic sound card.

Ok so I had a USB logitech headset for about 2 years and it broke. I could hear sound and talk to people via skype and ventrilo just fine. Now the new headset I have bought plugs into the mic and speaker ports on the back of the comp, only problem is my computer is not recognizing the Mic.. I'm not really sure where to go from here, the headset is really awesome and comfortable but it looks like I am going to have to return it for a USB model. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I am noticing that in the device manager it is not locating my sound card.. Why would a usb headsets mic work opposed to an analog headset? I have a few conferences I need to part of coming up early next week and I need my mic working. Please help

Thanks, Mike

Answer:Headset microphone not working

a usb headset actually doesnt use your sound card, it uses a virtual windows sound device. In order to use the new headset you have, you will have to make sure your sound card has the proper drivers installed. If you know your make/model of pc, or if it's homegrown, you can try and find the drivers. Or if you need assistance, the best way is to attach an everest hardware report to your next post.
you can download everest here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
once installed, at the top select reports/report wizard. select hardware information only. and save it as a text file to somewhere on your computer where you will find it easily.
next, attach it to a post, directions on how to attach: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86880

Hi all,

This has me so stumped, I'm usually pretty good with my own tech issues but I could really do with some expert opinions on this.

I have a Creativity Fatality gaming headset, which is not a USB set, it's a normal green/pink jack set. I haven't used it in a couple of months but it always worked fine on this system before, and I've not altered any settings since the last time I used it, that I can think of, but when I plug it in the microphone just doesn't work.

The headphones work fine, which is making me think it's not the soundcard that's the issue, and I tried the headset on a friend's laptop and the mic works perfectly, so am thinking it is some kind of setting/driver issue but I have no idea what.

I have updated my Realtek sound card drivers to the latest ones. The only weird thing that might give someone a clue is when I plug my mic jack into the pink socket the Realtek sound manager thingyamebob recognises it as speakers, and when I plug the green jack in it doesn't recognise that at all.

I have done the standard stuff such as checking audio devices, volumes and stuff. When selecting the device for recording the microphone is not an option at all, it just shows the Realtek soundcard device.

Does anyone have any ideas that I've not thought about I can try? Any help gratefully received.

Sally

Answer:Headset microphone not working...

Welcome to the forum This may sound stupid simple but there's a switch near the volume control to turn on the microphone just double check its on.

Have you configured your audio devices?Control panel, sound, right click your sound card and configure, run the wizard and select 2 channel stereo speakers.

Go into your realtek control panel also and make sure its set to stereo and make sure your mic is enabled there,if you right click the icon in your taskbar you should be able to configure it.

Could you post your operating system and the make and model of your computer if it has one,the model of your soundcard if you know it.

Go to control panel, system, device manager are there any yellow exclamation marks?

Hi all, cant seem to get my headset and microphone to work! I have windows XP, a soundmax sound card, which i have a 5.1 logitech speakers connected to it. Below this is the pink and green buttons for microphone and speakers, also have two ports at the front of the pc for the same thing. When i select the microphone in soundmax, a yellow triangle comes up with a black exclamination mark in it, so not sure why that happens. Also playing online games, can hear sound through the normal speakers but not the headset. So do i have do something with the normal speakers to use the headset and microphone or is it something totally different i should be doing? Tried all the other windows sound options but still no use!Can anyone help please? thanks

Answer:headset and microphone not working

when hedphones are plugged in windows should automaticly transfer the sound outputted to the headphone device. if the sound is still coming out of the speakers this probably means that windows is not regestering the fact that the headphones are plugged in try plugging them into all headphone ports on your pc. as for the microphone, if you double click the sound icon in the botom righthand corner of the screen (next to the clock) then you should get a dialog window one of these options is line in, however this will only output the audio not neceserily chang how it is being inputed. to test the micrphone try recording from it in windwos sound recorder, (start > programs > accessories > entertainment >soundrecorder) and then you should be able to see an oscillating line if there is sound being recorded. if no sound is being recorded, check your microphone, and then if it is ok try checking for (updated) sound card drivers.
