Lags while scrolling in browser windows

Question: Lags while scrolling in browser windows

My browser windows, both of them (Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox) are lagging oddly whenever I scroll. There are no other lag issues with them, concerning buttons or loading pages. Whenever I try to scroll, however, it does so slowly and in bars. It seems to be worse the longer the page in question is. Is this a quick fix with resolution, or a more complicated problem? Can someone help me with it? It's getting very annoying.

Preferred Solution: Lags while scrolling in browser windows

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lags while scrolling in browser windows

Hi mercuis !

Run the task manager (ctrl + alt + del), look at the processes tab and tell us if there's any process other than the system idle process that's taking up the cpu ressources when that problem happens.

Hey, Recently i reformatted my computer and decided to get rid of windows vista and start again with windows xp. I installed everything well and their was no errors. But after i had installed XP whenever i want to scroll down a webpage it seems to go down in sections and doesn't scroll smoothly. I have googled my error and i couldn't find a good answer to my problem. I have tried scrolling with scroll lock on and off. and have even tried using a different browser eg. Opera. But the same thing still happens. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, sk8boardinggit.

Evening partygoers,
Just did a clean install of XP Pro on a pc for my brother. I have installed all of the drivers that I know of. Its a Radeon, something something and the drivers were called "catalyst". Anyway, YouTube, video that I put on his pc and scrolling up and down on a web page there is a lagging or with the video it stutters. I am sure there is some simple driver that I am forgetting to install.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer:Video and screen scrolling lags.

When you did the Windows install, did you run the motherboard disc as well, to install the motherboard drivers ?  And if it is a separate video card, did you run the install disc for that ?

It sounds like a video driver problem. The other way to check is to find your way to 'Device Manager' and look for any components with a yellow question mark against them - this indicates a problem. You can get to the device manager either through 'Control Panel / System ( or Computer )' or by right clicking on the computer / system icon on the desk top if you have one.

If you do find you have missing drivers but don't have an install disk with on, you can normally get them from the manufacturer's web-site. Just make sure any drivers that you get this way are for XP and not Win 7 or 8 !

For some reason, when I'm typing in microsoft word (I'm using 2010 version) or facebook, the typing lags sooooo much. The letters wouldn't appear on the screen until a 2 or 3 seconds after I typed them. It's really annoying since I have to write 10 page papers for school. Also, when scrolling through documents in microsoft word, adobe, or in a web browser, the scrolling is really slow too. I'd keep dragging the scroll bar, but it would pause every 2 seconds. That's super annoying as well. I don't know what's wrong since I don't download apps or programs from the internet, and I haven't instailled a lot of programs on my U310 ideapad. I do search quite a bit on the internet though, but I use McAfee secure search to make sure I'm not clicking on sketchy links. My laptop also boots up really fast, and opening/closing windows is fast too. just got this laptop back in Nov. 2013, and mostly used it for school .... So what's wrong with my laptop?

Answer:Typing and Scrolling lags sooooooo much on U310

Hi SakuraL,Thanks for posting. Was reading through your post and sorry to hear about the issue you faced with your machine. Its really unusual for it to happen the way you described it as I must admit I haven't come across such an issue like this. However in order for me to Diagnose this further, I was wondering which model do you specifically have? Is it the U310 or the U310 touch version? What about the operating system you;re running, is it the Win8 or Win7? Could you also let me know of the BIOS version you have?Hope to hear back.Regards

I've been switching between windows 10 mobile build 10512 and wp8.1 on my Lumia 925 because for some odd reason, when using windows 10 mobile, there is an unusual and evident lag when scrolling (both vertically and horizantly) - it looks like there's a speed bump on my screen! When I revert to wp8.1, there are no problems at all. And ofcourse the battery drain is worse than build 10166. Is anyone else experiencing this problem with windows 10 mobile builds? I actually enjoy windows 10 mobile over wp8.1, but these two issues are making it almost impossible to use my lumia

Hello! I need help with my computer.

I have this 6-year-old desktop computer, and it is acting weird recently. Here is the story:

My computer runs very flawlessly for 6 years already, regularly updating my anti-virus software, doing maintenance once a month, and I am very careful when it comes to malware. Hence I should say that my PC is well-maintained.

One day, my printer (HP PSC 1410) died and decided to buy a new one (Canon MP258). I uninstalled the old printer driver and restarted. But after shutdown, my boot time seems doubled.

I continued by installing the new printer driver. But this time, installing takes quite long and I noticed that the mouse lags (or moves 'choppy') when I try to whip the mouse.

I also get a few stutters before fully stopping when pausing MP3 files. I also experience drastic FPS drops in my music games (40-50fps for a few seconds and goes back to the normal 200+fps, and drops again at random times in the song). Also, I hear a very short stutter every second with my music production program FL Studio 9, even at maximum buffer size (2048 samples @ 49ms latency via ASIO).

I get drastic performance drops. And I can really see it with the mouse lag.

I checked TaskManager and CPU is at 0-5% when idle. I also do not notice CPU spikes. I tried a full defrag (which lasted about 22 hours) and a full chkdsk (with through scanning). But I still get the same problem.

I will upload a sample audio recording of my computer speakers' output... Read more

Download CCleaner analyze the drive and remove all the temp files it finds. Run the Registry scan too. Download Malwarebytes run a full scan and delete all items it finds. Do another Check Disk, go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. Now type a Y and reboot the system. Go to Start/Run and type dfrg.msc and press enter. Do another Defrag,

Whenever I play videos in a browser (any browser), they might play for awhile, then suddenly it'll repeat a part of the video (normally a few frames) a couple of times, and then the visuals stop playing, but the audio will continue, the audio doesn't experience any problems in fact. Not all video players do this mind you, youtube's video player doesn't do this, however their ads do, so does facebook video, and a few others. I've tried reinstalling flash, tried disabling Chrome's built in flash, tried clearing cache. Tried looking for viruses, though I might try another antivirus just to double check. So yeah, nothing's working, wondering if you'd maybe know of the problem. Also like I said in the title, it lags the browser until the video stops or I manage to eventually close the tab. And yes I have tried WMP and VLC and they work fine.

Question: Browser lags

When I first boot my computer and go onto FireFox everything is zippy. I use AOL.com and click on an email link and it instantly opens in the browser. After a few days (I use hibernation so things are always as they were before I started up the computer again) clicking on the links gives me a delay. ON a fresh boot the delay is less than a tenth of a second, nearly instantaneous. After a few days the delay can be longer than a second. Long enough where I will click on the link again thinking I might have missed it.

I'd like to be able to fix the delay without needing to reboot since everything else is fine, it's just FireFox and links.

What is it that gets reset in the browser or computer when it gets rebooted. Quitting the browser and starting it up doesn't solve the issue. I'd just like to be able to do something to get rid of the issue without the need to reboot.

Thanks.

Answer:Browser lags

You would probably find the instant reaction you're looking for by choosing sleep instead of hibernation. Coming out of hibernation requires the re-transferring of data back to RAM from hard disc.

Hello,

When im playing any (html5/flash) video at any resolution in palemoon or firefox (havent tried chorme and will not) and Im moving with cursor inside browser that video starts to lagg-tearing playback. Ive tried it on intel hd 5500 and geforce840m (I used latest and old drivers), also disabled HW acceleration and its still the same.

IS there any way how can I fix it?

Thanks.

Answer:Video lags in browser

If you are streaming, it depends on your download speed with your ISP and how congested the servers are, where you are streaming the video from. Yesterday Netflix & Youtube were having some really bad problems with streaming.

I've recently started using LastPass and am getting rather irritating lags in my browser (mostly Firefox). As LastPass is the last thing I changed I'm suspecting its browser plug-in is behind this. It's only really noticeable on my modestly powered Lenovo E335 laptop. The PC, with its SSD, doesn't seem to be affected.

Any other LastPass user with a modest machine noticed anything similar?

Answer:LastPass and browser lags

Hi Earthling, sadly no on Lastpass and my computers I use with last pass are:

Surface Pro
Windows 8.1 Desktop
Windows 8.1 netbook
Windows 8.1 laptop
Windows Server 2012 R2

I would look at adobe flash, shockwave and Sun Java s issues, maybe Microsoft Silverlight, but I doubt the media add-ons are the issue, what browser and what PC specs do you have so we can compare, as my netbook is a Win 8.1 but a Intel Atom 1.66ghz with 2gb RAM and its ok with last pass, so look at addons in browser.

Hi All
I'm really in desperate need of some help
Whenever I open a browser, be it IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc... the internet immediatley drops through the floor. However, If i have no browser open my upload/download speed is completley normal; I can only assume this is being caused by some type of virus? (there are no extensions or addons in any of the browsers)
All other devices, laptops, phones, etc all work normally, it's just my computer
I have tried every thing I can think off to fix the issue:
- Run antivirus
- run anti-malware
- disabled system restore, run system restore, booted in safe mode, run antivirus/malware
- used netstat to try track down any strange open connections (none could be found)
- wiped the hard drive (restored back to factory)
nothing seems to work!
when i run a ping request, it starts off normal at 20ms.... .then as soon as i open a browser, or try to download something... it drops right down to 1400ms(av)!

Please... if anyone can suggest anything else i can try that would be really helpful
Thank you in advance

Answer:Internet lags out when a browser is opened!? please help!

So I managed to solve this on my own (eventually)....
step 7 and 8 solved the issue for me
So, in case anyone else is having the same problem, here are the steps I took to solve the problem:
1) Restart the computer
2) Disable system restore, then restore computer back to last know working configuration. Restart the machine in safe mode, and run an antivirus scan/malware scan
3) try running programs like, rkill, glasswire, combofix, etc to try reset and flush typical stuff out
4) using the cmd prompt, run 'netstat -b', look for any abnormal PIDs, if you see any, use the 'msconfig' cmd, disable any processess/services. Then use regedit to manually remove the entries. Open the folder c:/computer/user/<user>/appdata/local/temp and delete all the contents. restart the machine
5) go to control panel, network and sharing centre: click on the wireless connection. when the prompt opens, click on 'properties', left click on IPv4 and click properties again, in the bottom section, input an open DNS address (you can find loads on google)
6) Hard reset your router (usually a pinhole button on the back of the router)
7) log into your router through the default gateway (ipconfig to get the ip, then stick that into your browser). Go to router settings and find your security settings. Change the wireless channel to the next one down (for me, I changed mine from 11 to 8), then, change the security encryption to 'WPA(only)'
I hope this helps

I have an nVidia GeForce 9500 GT on a 32-bit Linux Mate 17.2 system. If I try to watch 1080p videos in a web browser, the videos are lagging, even when they're fully buffered. If I download the video and play it outside of a browser, it works fine, and if I play it within a browser on Windows it's also fine. The graphics card driver I have on Linux is the best one, and installed correctly, If I run this Linux via Live USB and go to Youtube in Firefox, I see the videos play in Flash player and 1080p works fine. If I try to play HTML5 video in a media player, it lags. How can I fix this?

Lately I've been having a lot of issues with my computer. I tried removing a few programs, and removing malware, etc.

My task bar randomly freezes. Usually when I open up a web browser. It doesn't always freeze. Sometimes the task bar turns part white to all the way white. It looks like it's a normal way of being in safe made look?

Anyway this has been driving me crazy. And half the time this happens I get this error "Generic Host Process for Win32 services"

Hi all,

Thank you in advance for your help!

I have a laptop that I started using (brand new) one year ago. (Specs posted below).

Everything was running smoothly for a while until a few months ago. I use FireFox and like to play flash games on Kongregate.com. The lag is ridiculous on most games. And those that don't lag, eventually lag hard after only a little while.

I ran ccleaner. I've updated flash and browser. I downloaded Avast and ran the full scan. Everything came back clean.

I tried installing Google Chrome but that was a disaster. Twenty minutes in and it was lagging worse than FireFox with only two tabs open (one on kongregate.com, the other on prnt.scr):
I'd really rather not use Chrome. So, I'd like to find a solution that involves FireFox.

I have a lot of processes running when I look at Task Manager but have no idea what I can turn off or how to turn off useless things permanently. I don't even know if that is my problem. I'd love to post a list of what's running but I don't know how to do that. Is there a program I can run that will give me a list of running processes?

I have very few programs that I've installed on this computer - I wanted to keep it clean so it would run smoothly.

Any ideas/advice would be amazing!!

Hi!

So I'm running Windows 7 on a Asus K53E with a 64 bit operating system and 4GB of RAM. I've had it for close to 5 years and can't really afford to get a new one at the moment.

Right now I'm having an issue where the laptop isn't running as smooth as I feel that it could. It's really noticeable when I stream any audio (or especially) video content anywhere online, something I do all of the time. The audio will stutter and glitch (creating kind of a dub-step sound effect). It's been happening for months, though it used to only happen if it wasn't plugged in, or if it'd been on for too long etc. Now it happens very frequently (sometimes once every other minute if not more) and nothing I've tried (updating the audio drivers and taking better care of it in general) has helped.

I haven't really been able to find much help online, though last night I downloaded a latency checker and saw repeated huge spikes in latency while streaming soccer matches and content from Netflix. I tried disabling and re-enabling various devices as the program recommended, but haven't been able to isolate any potentially faulty drivers. What was interesting however, is that I realized that these latency spikes weren't just occurring while content was streaming, but as I preformed other functions on my computer as well (mostly answering emails for my job). The whole system runs pretty laggy in general, I'm realizing now. Is there anything I can do?

This seems to happen no matter the browser. As i am scrolling up or down the page it will stop or freeze for a split second then continue. I have gone into the scroll settings an unchecked things and tried deactivating addons to no avail in pale moon or firefox to no avail. What global thing could cause this? 3 gigs of ram on windows 7 with a good processor. Nothing in startup other than a few things, i keep tghe machine lean. But it IS my PC at work so maybe a network thing. I can't ask IT to help, as they won't bother with this kind of thing.

I also have another symtom that i think is due to the same problem. When typing the cursor will freeze and the last few letters i typed will not show up for several seconds, then they all are rendered quickly.

Answer:stutter when scrolling in browser

Hi iknowjohnny,

Please could you list the web-browsers you have used, in which this issue occurs.

Okay... so I recently (at the recommendation of a friend) installed Opera to try it out.

Well I like the browser just fine so far, but there's one problem: The scrolling feature on my touchpad just DOES NOT WORK at all in Opera.

Why?

So far, the following has been suggested:

Someone said "update the driver."
Well may I ask then: FROM WHERE? WHAT DRIVER UPDATE?
The only driver in existence (which I don't even know where I got it...) is the one I have.
It's an Alps touchpad apparently, and I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

Answer:No scrolling in Opera browser? Why not?

Though I use Opera, I am not familiar with touchpads. But while awaiting an answer here, you can also try the Opera support forum, which specializes on this rather unjustifiably neglected browser:

Hi,

Had no idea where to post this question, it kind of lands in a grey area, but seeing as my O/S is XP, thought this would be the most suitable place to start.

I have just performed a clean install, and am in the process of adding, all my AV, and program software. I have however noticed, that when I scroll with my mouse wheel, down the page, it kind of ripples rather than smoothly scrolling.

Have I maybe set my screen up at the wrong resolution? I didn't install any monitor drivers during the install, cos hey, the monitor is working after all. Could something be missing though?

It's not a major issue, but I would like to iron out all these little niggles early on to keep things working tip top.
Please feel free to suggest if this post would be better served in a browser area of the forum, or anywhere else for that matter.

Thankyou.

Answer:Jerky browser scrolling.

Did you install the driver for your video card (and did you obtain it from the oem website)?

Also, please open device manager - any yellow or red symbols?

I learned the value of windows back up today. For years I had reformat to fix a messed up computer

I'm not a tard but I can't figure out how to fix my problem

I uninstalled programs most likely including some of the video driver stuff while I was trying to get rid of spy where. I can't find the driver or track down the model type from physically taking the video card out.

The actual problem is that when I use any windows browser or any internet browser it's lags on any scrolling. no other problems even with the file browser.

it's AGP, I don't have the install disc and have had difficulties getting the exact specs from the comp or the card itself

I've had a problem with the browsers I use hanging. It is most noticeable when I am using the scroll wheel on my mouse, scrolling down a page in an open window. It will hang for 1-3 seconds, as though a script is loading or something. At first I thought maybe it was a script or the page just waiting to finish loading, but I've let everything in the browser window finish loading and the problem just continues.

I thought at first it was a Firefox problem, so I tried IE8 and Google Chrome and the problem persists in those browsers as well.

There is no problem scrolling up, just down.

I've cleaned my system numerous times using Norton 360, Spybot S&D, CCleaner, PC Pitstop Optimize.

I've also thought maybe it was my mouse, so I downloaded new drivers and that solved nothing either.

It isn't causing any major issues, it is just a nuisance that I have been putting up with for a long time and have tried all I know to try to stop the problem with no luck. Now I'm enlisting the help of experts.

Thanks!

I use Firefox as my main internet browser. I'm occasionally coming across a problem where the internet page I'm viewing will suddenly start scrolling - all by itself, without me doing anything. For example, just a moment ago I was reading a webpage, not touching my mouse or keyboard and suddenly the page decided to scroll down to the bottom. I couldn't do anything to stop the scrolling. I have also noticed this on the odd occasion I have used Google maps. I will be searching a location, and when the map appears, the screen will suddenly start scrolling sideways across the map (to the left).Nothing I do stops the scrolling - I can move the scrollbar buttons, but they just go back to scrolling. All I can do is close the browser screen and start again. It doesn't happen every time, but often enough to be annoying. I have run a virus scan and checked everything I can think to check, but all seems fine. If anyone has any clues as to what the problem is, I'd be grateful to hear it. Is it a Firefox issue? Something else? Thanks.

Answer:Firefox browser automatically scrolling

I had that happen to me quite a few times. You have to wait for the page to completely load. If your scrolling down or have scrolled down before the page loads, when it does load, it will follow your command.

Now I have two.

When I start up my computer, go into windows, it takes a while to load then I get bsod and it restarts then works perfect, so now if I run it cold, I reset it immediately after switching it on, then it works. WTF?!

Plus now, it has started getting really slow and it lags. What can I do?

Please tell me whatever info you need, and where I can find it for you. I will be completely cooperative and appreciative.

look forward to hearing from you.

I wonder if anyone knows how to make auto-scrolling (particularly in browsers) smooth..ie. cut out the jerkiness.?

I have been using Opera for some time now, and it auto-scrolls just beautifully on my 98se. It makes browsing a real pleasure to be reading a page as it scrolls down slowly and silky smoothly.

I would like to be able to have the same degree of smoothness in Firebird(very jerky) and /or MyIE2 (less jerky, but still not usable to read while scrolling)
The reason for this is that I am now finding Opera so buggy, crashing so often that I want to get away from it, sadly I must say.

Any information on how to do this will be very gratefully received.

PcB.

Answer:how can I stop jerkiness in Browser auto-scrolling

If you are using smooth scrolling, the fix is to buy a faster processor. Smooth scrolling takes a lot of horsepower to so smoothly at any speed. I personally don't use smooth scrolling, I prefer to scroll by text rows, even with a fast processor.

Hi there, Im working with a Dell PC at work and my boss reformatted it yesterday. Since then the internet browser has a quite nausea inducing cascading/wave effect when you scroll up or down. Ive searched how to fix it and have tried to "smooth scroll" set it which hasnt made a difference regardless of whether it is ticked or not...Ive seen that sometimes its the video card but i would have thought that since the pc is reformatted that the original settings should mean that this doesnt happen? I could be very wrong... :DAny ideas?

Answer:Browser scrolling funnily..cascade effect

The problem us that you do not have the proper drivers for the video interface. You obtain these from the computer or video card manufacturer.Formatting a drive is a preliminary to a clean install of the OS. In such an install ALL data and settings on the partition are lost.

Greetings Honorable Geeks:major

As posted in recent weeks, had two destructive malware attacks which leveled me (Thank you TimW for helping me through) The one thing I noticed prior to the malware attacks - is a scrolling browser - so rapid difficult to even type - it is random- shuts down my emails as I type them, and close out any database I have open (work). It will shut down my emails as I type them. (actually just closed out this request for help).

Two weeks ago I finally got my system clean and reset up my system. All fine for a week - and now the rapid scrolling is starting again. I did observe a post in 2005 - that attributed this to a bad mouse - I can get a new mouse. Also the settings on my browser (pops up blocks) keeps turning the settings off. Yes I downloaded all I was suppose to. Have licensed copies of Avast and Mbam - showing no virus.

TimW (Hi TimW) that the Anti malware and anti virus did not protect emails/browser activity (I may have misunderstood). Is there any software I can download to run and or protect browser issues or threats? Thank you! Just trying to stay afloat Anyone else have this issue?

Respectfully
Snapper

Hey guys,

Today, I updated my video card drivers, but put off the restart until later. Now I restarted my machine, but i notice that the screen resolution seems to be a little off from what it says in control panel. (it's supposed to be 1280x1204 but it looks more like 800x600) Also, whenever I shift something on my desktop, or scroll down in a browser, a line runs up or down the screen and then the view shifts. I'm going to run a virus scan later, but I was wondering if it may have to do with the video drivers I installed earlier?

(Latest drivers as of April 2nd 2009(i think) for Nvidia Geforce 7600)

Thanks,

Alias50

Answer:Solved: Screen resolution wrong, wierd browser scrolling

As the problem has only been occuring since you installed the new drivers then yes it is highly likely. You can roll back your drivers by finding your graphics device in Device Manager > Right click and select properties > Select the driver tab then click 'Rollback Driver' any questions or problems let us know.

Alright so i'll begin from the start.

MY PC:
Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 @ 2GHZ - 2GB of RAM
GeForce 8600 GTS

I got home last week and my pc was on dos screen saying no OS found, pc was working fine when i left house. I put the hd in another pc and it was empty, hmm maybe just old 6 year old hd that died.

I used another 160gb WD HD also about 6 years old, formatted, fresh install of XP SP2. so that worked out but the pc was extremely laggy. It took around 3-5 mins to boot up competely, everythying on pc ran really slow. sound was choppy and laggy all the time. So i thought maybe just an old hd.

I bought a brand new WD 640 GB SATA HD the other day, installed XP SP3 on it. It was working fine for about 24 hours then all of a sudden started to randomly freeze. i rebooted and it started doing the same thing again, really slow reboots, pc was just slow itself. sound was choppy again.

CPU usage isn't even high, usually around 2-3%, nothing in processes seems out of the ordinary. I updated BIOS to newest one, did nothing. I ran memtest, came out clean. I have the good drivers for all my things.
I've been formatting and installing pc's for a while now, so i know more than the average person. But this just got be stumped.

If anyone has any idea of what could be wrong, i'm gonna try formatting and installing again one more time, then i might just buy a new motherboard and CPU.

Answer:XP - really slow, lags sound, lags everything

Hi rob1302 and welcome to TSF

You've probably tried some of the following, but I'll list the things that I would look for.

Check the temperatures and voltages using speedfan. I'd turn on the graphics mode so I could get log of the readings.

http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Unplug all the extra equipment including CD/DVD drives and see if that would clear the problem.

Reseat all the cables, both power and data, and also jumpers including any on back of the drives.

Blow out the dust using a can of compressed air.

Try another powersupply if one is available.

Replace the BIOS battery.

On the software side, download and install Autoruns and Process Explorer.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys.../AutoRuns.mspx

Use one to check for applications that use too much CPU time and the other to selectively turn off applications.

To be sure malware is not the problem, I would scan with two or more malware scanners.

Look in the startup folder and if anything is there, move them to an adjacent folder for testing.

Hope one of these will help.

Best regards,
Mack1

Hi,

I appear to be having trouble with my firefox browser.

My operating system is Windows 8.1. I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G which I bought some 18 months ago.

System details:

Processor: Intel® Core i7-4202MQ 2.2GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 16.00 GB DDR3 L Memory
System  type: 64-bit Operating, x64- based processor

A few days ago my firefox browser, which for no apparent reason at all, just seemed to slow to a stupendously very slow loading of pages. I had recently just been working on an issue in which I posted a thread regarding whether there was a possible virus/malware after google chrome terminated with the following message from Hitman Pro Alert:

Attack Intercepted
'Google Chrome 49' has been terminated to prevent execution of malicious code. Please check your computer for malware and software updates

As it happened, it appeared to be because of a conflict somewhere in the Google Chrome, Trusteer Rapport and Hitman Pro Alert combination, and so the only way was to change the settings on Hitman Pro Alert as advised and shown in my thread:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/611273/possible-virus-or-malaware/

However, there was no malware or virus detected by my own Avast or Malwareware bytes tools, and the tools used as instructed in the thread also showed my system to have none. Also, google chrome works fine, and my computer has not slowed in any way. My fir... Read more

Hi,
I own a Medion Akoya E6221, a windows 7 64bit laptop with 4gb of ram and a dual core intel core i5 processor. For a long period now, on and off I have had the problem of when my computer has been used for a period (varying from almost no time to a few hours or days!) the typing and navigation seems to lag as if the computer is under huge strain. However, this happens even when only chrome or one Word window is opened.

The way to 'fix' the problem is a restart and that that works well until the problem reoccurs, either as an annoying delay to typing or in such a severe form as to leave my laptop virtually inoperable. To try and sort the issue I've tried disabling various programs, reinstalling Windows 7 and running an array of Memtest tests on the ram (which came up clean).

Other than this problem the laptop is pretty fast and I can't seem to see anything too weird in the process dialogues when the problem is occurring.

Can anyone think of what may be causing this?

Thanks,
George

I am having the strangest problem with my computer. I am running Windows XP my computer is a fairly new computer Athlon XP 2600, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HD. For some strange reason it repeatedly lags. It does not matter what programs are running, does not matter how many times I reboot my computer it always lags.

Allow me to clarify what I mean when I say it lags. It like it temporarily freezes up for 10 seconds or so. I cannot move the mouse, the keyboard does not work, nothing works for about 10 seconds, after which time it unlocks its self and continues to work as normal. And then a few minute later it lags again. I cannot figure out what the HE*L it is doing. I consider myself to be very competent with computers, I am 100% sure I do not have a virus or Trojan or Spyware, I have already eliminated those causes. I have all the latest patches from MS, yet the computer freezes up all the time, then unlocks its self, what could be happening here?

Now I had WinXP installed on this computer before and it worked fine, then I formatted the HD and Re-Installed windows. It was working great, the all of a sudden one day it just started freezing up on me. I thought okay the computer is frozen, probably I have to do a hard reboot, but then it unlocked its self and it keeps doing this over and over again. I am not getting and BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death), and my event logs show nothing abnormal. I have not connected any new hardware, or installed any new software.

It does this un-commanded. It does this without me touching either the mouse, nor the laptop surface. The laptop is a Lenovo Y580. It makes it almost impossible to read a webpage without using my mouse to go back to where I was reading. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your assistance.

Hi all,

I've been having a few problems with my Windows 7 laptop the past few months. Every few seconds it seems to lag- the screen will just freeze for about a second and then it will go on working as normal. For example, while I'm typing this, every so often the screen freezes and then suddenly anything I typed while it was frozen will appear at once. Or some of the visual effects of Windows 7 might be delayed, like if I hover the cursor over an icon in the taskbar, it might not light up immediately and there'll be a delay in actually clicking on it. It happens while playing games too. Everything will stop briefly, then continue. Today I noticed, while playing Final Fantasy VII, that these freezes seem to happen just before a sound effect is loaded that hasn't been used recently, like the sound of a particular attack landing. I don't know if that means anything or is something random, but I thought I'd mention it all the same.

I've had the computer since December 2009, and for the first year or so I had problems with BSODs, until I eventually I brought it back to the shop, and after a few months they figured out the problem and replaced the CPU. Since January 2011, it has been working fine, until these laggy problems started around August or September 2013.

These are my specs:
HP G61 Notebook PC
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Pentium Dual-Core CPU, T4300 @ 2.10 GHz
4.00 GB RAM

I've looked at dozens of similar threads and tried quite a few things to try to fix... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 lags every few seconds

Do you have an external HD where you can store a backup image of the system partition?

If so I would use Macrium Reflect or similar to make a backup image. Then I would try running with no AV shield.

Also what is your HD capacity and how much free space do you have on the system partition? Or even better post a maximized screen shot of Disk Management screen.

Edit: I'm thinking if you haven't defragged your HD and/or you are running at low free space percentages this may generate the lag. Also av programs can slow down the machine. A combination of factors may be at work.

I noticed lately that if I have a webpage with any flash open (such as this one, with a Newegg flash banner), it lags my Windows, as if Flash is taking up 100% CPU.

Minimizing and shrinking/maximizing any window takes twice as long.

Anyone experiencing this? Any known fixes? This happened to me pretty much every reformat, and seems spontaneous, not after any system changes.

Answer:Flash lags Windows?

Is it with firefox? Because mine has started doing the same thing, I went to a website with flash. Firefox started to lag really bad, and was using 100mb of memory.

I want to buy surface 3 and I don't want spend too much money, so I want to know is surface 3 with 2Gb RAM can handle newest Windows 10 ??? And also Surface 3 have function windows hello or it's only on surface pro 4 ?

Answer:Windows Surface 3 2Gb have enough RAM to run without lags ?

Windows Hello doesn't work on surface 3.
2GB ram will probably still work... my surface 3 is 4gb, but I feel glad I took the 4GB as it I use it up fast with lots of windows open. If you manage it, it'll probably be fine. The biggest problem of surface 3 is not the amount of ram but the slow ssd drive.

Answer:Windows 7 home 64 bit lags on everything

It might be a driver problem. Did you look in Device Manager whether there are any yellow triangles.

You may also want to run this program. If you have red bars, then there is a problem. It might tell you what the problem is. All green is OK.

I had to install a fresh copy of windows because it didn't work after I haven been using the HDD on another computer. After installing windows, and the programs I need, I find that sometimes when I move a window, it goes choppy and warpy when moving it around. The same when reading text and scrolling down. And also, for like firefox, it takes like 30 seconds for it to open up. I tried spyware removal, scanning for viruses, checking if any programs are running that waste memory, but nothing, my 800mhz pc100 computer loads things faster than mine, and doesn't lag at all. What could the problem be? Hopefully SP2 will remove the lag... dunno why, but I hope. I was thinking its a video card problem, but I installed all the drivers, and changed the clocks' and stuff, but nothing. Thanks for any help. Um, and in task manager, it says firefox.exe is using 79,168k. Maybe firefox is whats lagging me? But also, when i launch any little thing, my windows begins to lag, and it wasnt so with my 800mhz comp. Also, if i restore down my window, and start moving it around fast, it starts to chop and lag and stuff.... i also get chops in playing games also. dunno what it is

Answer:help, reinstalled windows, but it lags.

Get your hardware @ stock speeds, format and reinstall windows (slipstreamed with SP2 of course), once everything is running decently OC again

Good Luck

Hi,You could try uninstalling the Avast AV temporarily to see whether it makes any difference, you will be protected by Windows Defender when you uninstall Avast, your CPU also slower one, if it's Celeron N2930 but can not do anything about it, how much memory do you have? You could try installing it's size if you already haven't upgraded, you could also replace the HDD with a SSD for faster response.

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

Hey all.

I just recently reinstalled my winxp.
Everything has been running good but lately when I go to run a folder [C:/ for instance, but could be any other folder] it will lag anywhere from seconds to minutes in opening the folder and sometimes it won't bother to open it at all.

Other than this I haven't noticed any problems and all my programs are opening just fine. Any tips?

Answer:Windows Explorer lags/won't display

Hi
Usually, when windows explorer delays the display of your drives/folders it is an indicator that it is having a problem locating that drive or folder......
Could be imminent drive failure or bad sectors on drive?
Could be a bad CD/DVD in the Rom drive, thats causing the delay. ensure drives are empty.
Could be mapped/network drives. (if you have any that is)
Could be corrupted files on Hard drive, run scan disk/ Error checking in XP
Is windows slow to boot as well?

Ever since I got some update from microsoft that was supposed to fix some networking problem after upgrading xp my windows messenger has gone to hell.

It takes the messenger like an entire minute to load and when it finally opens, I can use it like normal exept it hangs every once in a while.

It happened around the time i got that update noted above and around the same time I upgraded directx.

First I tried to download modern combat 5 on windows 8.1 but couldn't. then i downloaded it in windows 10 but it just keeps lagging and i cannot even move a step properly. and there is a black bar that hides the icon and navigations i guess...and when i try to shoot, it just takes forever to kill my enemy. please help... i wanted to play this game so much ...And as always....thnx 4 replying..

Answer:Why does Modern Combat 5 lags so much in Windows 10?

Struggling with this - loose like a fun game and I should probably download it to play and to help with this reply...
But instead, I'll give you a kind of standard two-way response:
1. This could be a resource issue - How is your computers resources? Is this game causing your CPU or memory to max out? Do you have other apps open? You experience this behavior in other games?
2. Perhaps a clean install will help? I had an average computer that didn't run Windows 10 very well. The stats looked ok, but it was terrible. I dd a clean install and now it's one of my best computers.

Hello guys, i recently bought a Lumia 540 Dual SIM
first it comes with windows 8.1 it works really cool and fast
but when i updated it to windows 10 it started to lag every time i use Facebook or Messanger or Instagram, but everything else working perfect.
I don't know actually why is that? because my phone have only 1GB of ram? or it's apps issues?
Sorry for my bad English, and thanks in advance.

Answer:Facebook & Messenger lags with windows 10?

The issues are both with the apps and the 1gb of ram. Facebook recently decided to change the ram requirement to be 2gb. I would suggest trying an app like SlimSocial for Facebook.
Additionally, your phone generally works better on 8.1.

Hi,

I'm currently using Windows 7 RC1 (7100) and waiting for 22nd October
I did some test about multi-tasking in this build (7100) and after opened ~80 explorer windows - my windows couldn't open new windows it looks like a very big lag, explorer.exe in Windows Task Manager reach ~350MB RAM usage.
It looks very similiar to this video:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4slDVbgVos"]YouTube - Windows 7 sucks at simple multi tasking[/ame]

So I have a question to you - Did you observe the same results/behavior on yours machines? In RC or better RTM version of Windows 7?

Thanks,

Answer:Windows 7 multi-tasking - lags?

I cant honestly answer that question as I can never fathom a logical reason to have 80 explorer windows open...

Answer:Comp Lags Really Bad When Using Ie Or Windows Explorer

Hello,Your system is terribly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show. Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution. So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused. In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start. Reason I am telling this is because when a system is so terribly infected and we try to clean this up manually, the damage that is already present may interfere with our removal attempts. Actually this doesn't suprise me at all... because I notice that you do not seem to be running Antivirus software and a Firewall. This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world. That's why I want you to install them first!!Avira, AVG OR Active Virus Shield (uncheck the Security Toolbar during install) are good FREE antivirus.Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! Several together ... Read more

Dear niknak309 try to close the background apps (other than windows operations) in task manager and then see the lagg has gone or not. May be after updating to windows 8.1 your default graphic card may be changed to your laptop processer shared graphic memory. so try selecting the graphic card by right clicking on game's launcher and select 'run with graphic processer' and then your graphic card name. I hope this may solve your problem. Reply if this solution not works

What I mean is when I open a new window such as pictures folder, music folder, any folder, there is a 5 to 15 second delay where the window is blank and if i click it it stops responding eventually after a few seconds what ever is in the folder loads but its becoming a pain to have to wait for each window to load. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be? ( also windows live messenger seems to suffer as well, whenever i open a convo it will freeze for a few seconds, it also can happen randomly)

ive tried restarting, ive defraged, ive restarted the windows shell, ive cleaned temp files, i dont use any animations for windows ive disabled almost all of those functions, i dont use aero i use classic windows style for maximum performance(although the problem was still there when i was using aero), i defragged my registry and cleaned it. ive tried alot of things all with them doing nothing about that windows problem. ( on thing interesting i noticed when i used aero was that if i killed the dwm proccess and it restarted, sometimes everything would work fine again but it happens rarely)

Well Triratna, I too am an experienced software engineer and I am experiencing the same ?Not Responding? problem as the others have described. I have been scouring the internet for hours looking for solutions and have found nothing apart from the blindingly obvious advice such as disabling checking plugins, updating drivers, checking for hardware issues. I have also tried disabling auto-tuning as some pages have suggested but the problem remains. This really is a problem and just because you haven?t seem it on the systems you use does not mean that it does not exist and everyone else must just be stupid.
Anyway, I am running a Medion laptop with 2.0GHz dual-core, 3GB RAM and with very little extra software installed. All of my drivers are up to date, Vista (x86) is up to date and so is Firefox.
The symptoms are that you are happily browsing and half way through loading a page (in either Firefox or Explorer) Vista gives you a blue circle and hangs for 10-15 seconds. This is not the pointer+blue circle which tells you that a page is loading, but a full blue circle. Firefox (or IE) then goes to ?Not Res... Read more

When I start up and get to my desktop, some items that I want to open lags! It will actually take about a minute for them to open up. This only occurs at startup.

Things such as my DSL network connection, right clicking properties on My Computer. Opening third party programs start right away. Is this because it's x64 corporate? x64 professional? Should I be using home edition of x64? Is it something that's starting up? Could it be the motherboard not responding to the OS quickly enough?

So for the past 2-3 weeks I have been noticing a ton of lag in my computer. I will go into detail of my problem after I list my specs:
Code:
Computer Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 (2.33GHz)
Intel DG33FBC Motherboard
500W Power Supply
4x1GB PC26400 Crucial RAM
2x500GB Seagate 7200.10 (1 of these is boot drive)
1x160GB Western Digital
This computer is running Windows XP for almost 2 years now. I have reformatted a few times, but this installation is probably 8 months old. Lately I have been noticing that when I boot up my computer or if I unlock it after its been locked for about an hour (or more) it takes about 5 minutes for it to come back into a working state. When I boot up my computer I will see one item pop up in the taskbar (bottom right) and then I just have an hourglass for about 5 minutes before the other processes start and I begin to see other items in the taskbar.

I have run CCleaner and checked MSConfig for my startup processes and at last count I only have 8 processes running at startup. But this should not effect the "lag" after my computer is unlocked.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, I recently purchased a family pack of Windows 7: Home Premium and installed it on my computer. However, there has been reoccurring stuttering ever since. Whether I'm watching a video, playing a game, or simply scrolling in Firefox, roughly every second there is a brief amount of lag. The lag continues every second or so, making it quite annoying to carry out my average computer activities.

I've made sure that all of my drivers are up to date; and have reinstalled my integrated graphics card driver. I have also attempted to turn off certain windows display features, including transparency; yet the problem still exists. CPU and RAM usage are hardly ever high, even with several windows open.

Here are some of my system specs:

Compaq Presario SR1910NX
1.5 Gb of DDR PC3200 RAM
NVIDIA Geforce 6150 LE
AMD Sephron 1.8 Gigahertz Processor 3200+

I understand that this computer by no means should blow the operating system to dust, but it shouldn't cause any extensive issues, correct? Everything runs very fervently actually, aside for this annoying lag issue. Also, I have provided two files, one is a quick screen capture showing the torturous lag, while the other is a picture of the processes I have running in task manager.

Thank You! -Richard

Stutter.zip

EDIT: I feel I should point this out; I noticed that whenever the lag occurs, my computer thinking light flashes quite quickly. I'm assuming that might have something to do with it?

I have a Dell inspiron e1505. 2 gb RAM.

Essentially I am getting seemingly random spikes in my cpu usage where it ramps up to 100% and windows basically freezes for an extended period of time. Sometimes I simply have 1 google chrome tab open with no other apps actively running in the foreground and I get these cpu spikes. I just did a clean install of windows 7 to try and eradicate this and it persists. I am at a loss as to what the problem is. What is odd is even though the cpu usage spikes at 100% my available memory is almost always nearly around 50% still. So I am just not sure what is happening.

Here is a link to another forum where someone else was trying to help (unfortunately to no avail) High CPU usage, programs crashing, windows hanging - Tech Support Forum

Anyway like I said I eventually just did a clean install but the problem persists. Since the clean install I have not noticed and flash problems with chrome (as per the tech support forum thread) just random cpu spikes.

Any help is much appreciated

Hello. I'm having a slight problem with Windows 7. There are certain instances in which the graphics are lagging on my computer. For example, when I mouse over programs pinned to the task bar, the icon on the taskbar will stay highlighted. It won't do this when I move from icon to icon, but rather when I move the mouse away from the taskbar entirely. Also, when I open Windows Media Player, the program hangs up, and doesn't respond for a couple of minutes until it loads. A few times, the graphics of WMP have frozen up during use, although the audio continues to play. This all started happening last week, after I was trying to install Visual Studio Professional 2010 on my computer. (I have since removed the program.) I was hoping someone could give me an idea of where to start so I can attempt to diagnose the problem. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

My system is:

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (32 bit)
AMD Athlon X3 440 Processor 3.00Hz
4 MB Ram
MSI 770G45 motherboard.

Hi there,
My windows media player version is 11 and my audio runs fine on it for a couple of minutes. But after this, it starts to lag or slowdown because the visualisation ends up slowing down and the seeking takes longer than expected to get to the part of the music i want. This only applies with the audio files. My computer specs are as follow:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.00ghz
1.00gb of Ram
Xp Professional Service Pack 2
512 mb Graphics card

Despite this, it still "lags", was there something wrong with the setup or is there a way i can resolve this.
Thanks

Answer:Windows Media Player Lags/Slowdown

I once fixed a media player problem by going to tools\options\performance(tab)\advanced and just changed a setting (any setting Like 'high quality mode') closed and reopened. The player started working correctly. You could then go back in and put the setting back and it would continue to work correctly. The particular problem then was no video on some files. It worked on multiple computers. It was like some part of the configuration didn't complete until you change something in there.

Also check 'recommended' MS updates' for media player updates and check for updated drivers for your sound card.

Hey TSG,
I have a HP Laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium 32.
Within the past week it has started hanging as soon as the computer boots. Any application that I boot only works for a short period of time and soon crashes. I ran Spybot and it removed everything it found, however the problem still resumes.
The computers works perfectly fine upon booting into safe mode. I tried System Restoring the computer to a earlier date (before this started happening) to no avail. I am completely confounded as to how I should go about resolving this problem. I would prefer to not have to reformat the computer, so I would like to explore other options first.
Thanks a lot,
MKS

I have a full HD monitor and a full HD TV, both conected to the PC. Problem is, after Windows 7 Ultimate x64 starts up, if i run a program that requires any form of graphics acceleration... like for example Google Chrome, the mouse will lag for a couple of secs. If i try moving it... it jumps until it reaches de desired position. This happens when i have both monitors connected to the PC and it only happens ONCE per session. After a couple of secs the lag stops and it won't do it again until next time i turn on my PC. I also tryed it with a HD 6670 video card... it behaved exactly the same. I am beggining to think it's related to the refresh rate... i noticed that if i try changing the refresh rate manually... immediatly after i do that, the system and the mouse will lag for a couple of seconds as i described it earlier. I don't understand why it does that, both displays are set to 60hz refresh rate... Any ideeas? It's really annoying ... Thanks!
