[resolved]Help with resolution and colour and colour quality??.. anyone??

Question: [resolved]Help with resolution and colour and colour quality??.. anyone??

Hello.

I seriously need help with my PC. I've reinstalled Windows XP and Service Pack 2, and I can't chnge the Screen resolution or the colour quality. It sucks. The resolution stays at 800x600, the lowest possible, and the colour quality stays at 8 bit. I think I have a ATI 128 MB DDR Radeon 9800 Pro. I dunno whether thats a driver or what. And I also don't know my graphics card, or whether that will help at all.

I would swear at this point but I'm too young.

Oh but I'll use this instead

Has anyone got any help for me that I can understand. I'm 14 but I still can understand most computer talk.

Anyway thanks very much for reading all this crap and please try not to point out all my spelling mistakes.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Heya, welcome to the forums

Okay, it has to do with your drivers. Go to ATI's website and find your driver.

Here's the link

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeonx-xp.html

Please download and install both the Control Center as well as the Display driver. Then restart your computer and try to change the resolution.

Cheers!

Answer:Low quality colour and Low resolution :(

Welcome to TSF....

Since windows was re-installed the thing that has to be done is to install all of the special drivers like chipset, buss, network, audio, video and others, they can be installed in any order you wish and can be found on the system recovery disk set for the computer if it is an OEM like Compaq, Dell etc. or if you do not have a recovery disk set the drivers can be found on the manufacturers web site for either the motherboard or the manufacturer of the computers web site. You can download these drivers and burn to a CD-R and then install those following instructions to reboot when asked.

A friend of mine recently updated his video card drivers, and upon restarting his computer his screen resolution was set to 640x480 and colour quality set to 4-bit. The slider will still move, but as soon as you click apply it just sets itself back to the lowest settings. I've updated both his video card and monitor drivers, and tried decreasing hardware acceleration, but the problem persists.

Monitor: Samsung 953BW (most recent driver version 1.0)
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 8800GT (most recent driver version 285.58)

DirectX is updated to the latest version and I'm completely lost as to where to go from here. He updated the graphics card drivers in an attempt to fix graphical problems in a couple of games and now everything is gone to ****. Thanks =)

Answer:Updated video card drivers and now can't increase screen resolution or colour quality

I believe you might have the wrong drivers? Try this one.

Also try uninstalling the old drivers reboot then install the new ones.

Question: colour quality

When I download still images from my camcorder on to my computer, the colours look very dull and lifeless-very different from how they look on the LCD screen of the camcorder. Is there any software that could improve image quality?

Thanks-this is a great site.

Answer:colour quality

If you just want to pep up the image a little, Irfanview is simple: www.irfanview.com It is primarily a viewer, but it has some tools for tweaking an image.

This is freeware that will do a better job: http://www.freewarefiles.com/programs.php?ProgramID=1012&categoryid=3&subcategoryid=36 It is a lite version if their shareware program, which is excellent for the price. The freeware has the things you need like histogram and saturation that Irfanview lacks. You can download the manual for the full version at their site.

If you plan on spending the time to really learn photo editing and donít want to spend any money on a program, Gimp is now available for Windows. It isnít easy to learn, but has the capabilities of a good intermediate graphics editor: http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/downloads.html

These are also free and will do a nice job:
http://www.ab.wakwak.com/~knight/
http://www.serif.com/photoplus5/index.asp

If you want to buy an intermediate image editor, Uleadís PhotoImpact and Jasic Paint Shop Pro are both excellent. From the reviews Iíve read PhotoImpact is easier to learn and at least as full featured compared to Paint Shop Pro. They both have 30 day free trials if you want to try them:
PhotoImpact: http://www.ulead.com/pi/trial.htm
PSP: http://www.jasc.com/download_4.asp

I have a Philips TFT 170B4 monitor and an Evesham 2600 PCI recently loaded a game and was asked to change the colour quality from Highest (32 bit) to Medium (16 bit). I followed this and yes my PC was showing 32 bit. After playing the game I decided to restore the set up to 32 bit. However when I reset it and either apply or click OK the screen goes blank for a second and it defaults to 16 bit, whatever I do it now seems impossible to restore to 32 bit?Help please

Answer:Re-setting colour quality

Is it a problem for you in using 16 bit colour? Many people are unable to discern between the two.If you find it OK at the 16 bit setting, probably best to leave it. The more you fiddle with it, the more likely it will go wrong.

Hi there gurus.
My pc doesn?t show certain colour objects in Publisher 2007 and some on-line sites. Overall, the screen colour is very good. I know the fault is localised, because when I switch to Print Preview in Publisher it looks fine and I can see all the object colours. (I only lose the colour with objects, not text)
Also, when I send a copy of a Publisher page to my partner who is on the same PC, it looks fine on her screen.
I?ve tried going to Install/uninstall programs and run the Repair, but to no avail. The guys in my computer shop are clueless without seeing it. Anyone who can help solve this for me is a gem.
Cheers!
David

What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with compatible inks?

I'm happy to invest in buying a colour laser: but I can't find any refills for lasers
At least they don't seem to be widely available

So, my choice is: colour laser + genuine inks or colour inkjet + compatible inks

From what I know, side by side: laser's are cheaper
But, how about when compared to genuine laser ink to compatible colour inkjet inks?

I should stress that for me needs, I am not overly concerned if using compatibles doesn't give me perfect results - just close as possible is fine for me

What's more important probably is speed of print at highest quality

ANY feedback would be great

Thanks

Answer:What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with ink compatibles?

Finding Compatible Remanufactured Color Toner cartridges can be dicey. While they may be available, the problem may end up being the company tht does the remanufaturing. It is also dependant upon the model printer you get. I have noticed that the savings on my Black Canon X-25 toner cartridge is only about $12 lower than the cost of a Factory original cartridge. There are sites that I would save up to $30 per cartridge, but part of this is eaten up by the shipping charges. For my toner cartridge, I am about 1/2 mile from the store that does nothing but ink and toner refill services, and their garauntee thier cartridges 100%. In 3 years I have only had to return one cartridge and it was an HP #17 Color cartridge.

Now per page printing cost on a laser is much cheaper than on an inkjet. Though the printer cost itself is usually much higher for a Laser. Personally I use the laser much more than than my Inkjet, but I do use the inkjet for all color printing. But then 95% of my printing is monochrome text.

Answer:Display Settings - Colour Quality

You need to download the correct viedo drivers for her video card.

The first thing you need to do is idetnify the video card in question. Then download the drivers for that card. If you need help identifying the video card please post the make and model of the PC if its a storebought PC. If its home built you either have to open it up or run something like Everest to get the information.

My Epson Stylus C670 is producing colour prints which are both too green and have distinct horizontal bands on them. I've done a print nozzle check which showed gaps in the red section. I've cleaned the print heads numerous times and even installed a brand new ink cartridge but no improvement. Despite the head cleaning and new cartridge, the red section still has faint or missing "lines" in about 60% of the printout from the nozzle check utility. Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer:Poor quality colour printing

Possibly a nozzle cleaning cartridge indicated. Suggest try Choice Stationery.

Hi, I'm using the Aerolite theme with Aeroglass, and want a consistent colour for the borders. So I set accent colour from background 'off' and choose the colour. Fine so far.

Now that's ok if I log off and on.

But if I sleep or hibernate (not personally ) and then resume, the colour and setting are lost.

I noticed that on resuming, the border colour is present until the 'Please wait' screen appears, after which these settings are lost.

Any ideas? Thanks!

When placing actual photos into the machine to be scanned then printed they come out perfectly fine but when I try to print pictures already imported onto my computer they come out very faint/light. The computer keeps saying the ink levels are low which is incorrect as I have just put in new ones. I beleive this is a issue to do with the colour settings installed on windows 7 as our pictures print out fine when the printer is connected to our lap top. If anyone could help me with changing the colour settings that would be great. Thank you

Answer:Intel 82810E - how to improve colour quality?

Colour DepthMany games give the option to run in either 16-bit or 32-bit colour depth. This refers to the amount of video memory that is required for each screen pixel. 32-bit colour depth gives a larger range of colours to use, resulting in higher quality rendering. Due to the increased video memory bandwidth that is needed, 32-bit colour will reduce the frame rate for the game. With some games, this can result in choppier performance. * Intelģ 82810E and 82815 graphics controllers support up to 16-bit colour textures

Hi all. I am John, new to the forum and unfortunately not at all computer 'minded' when it comes to a problem, so, can somebody help me please?

Our old PC runs windows 98se, and has decided to loose its colour and picture clarity. There are still some colours there, but its like even those have lost their depth. The pictures seem very 'grainy', like the pixels are far to large, and the image is difficult to see. When the machine starts up though, the windows logo 98 comes up fine, with the right colours and clarity, but after that everything alters.

The PC has a standard VGA graphics card, and when the main screen comes up with the 'icons', i get a message saying ' youmust be running 256 colour mode or higher. I am unable to alter this via the control panel, the adjuster wont work. The motherboard has the following on it;FC Canada close class B ICE5, EA00D009323332 and P8HC006604.

Please help, bearing in mind that I would sincerely appreciate simple and easy to follow instructions.

thanks very much,

John

Answer:Windows 98 colour loss and poor picture quality

I am thinking that you need to reinstall your video card drivers. To find out what kind of video card you have, go to control panel->system->hardware->device manager->video adapters(or something like that) then open up the thing inside the video adapter and it should tell you what your video card is. Go to the card manufacturer's website and look up your video card and download the driver for it.

Hi Allhope someone more knowledgable can advise - I recently purchased a Lexmark x500n multifunction colour laser printer - I had a big black print job to do excel and word - 2000 pages - i was shocked to see that - ok the black starter cartridge of 2500 pages was nearly empty- fair enough - but all three colour cartridges (1500 page size) were nearly all empty too - I hadn't done any colour printing but when i contacted the manuf they advised that the printer uses colour also to print black!! - it's getting returned to them - but do do all colour lasers do this - obviously this quadruples the costs of printing and has put my costing out of the window!! - any advice would be great - it's a network colour printer, with copier and scanner that I need - a fax would be great but not essential.thanks in advanceTrifly

Answer:COLOUR LASER - PRINTING BLACK USING COLOUR!!

That would pee me off no end. How in God's name can it use colour to create black when there's a black cartridge in there? A cheapo mono laser seems to be your ideal tool. I know nothing about colour laser printers, but is there an option anywhere in the settings to print using only the black cartridge? Does the printer still work if you take out the colour cartridge while printing only black text documents?

Hi guys, my first post! Had my Tosh for 3 years now. I have a problem with the display now. It looks as if the colour depth is really low or something.. like I've whacked it on 8bit colour depth! Everything looks heavily posterized in the graphical sense.

I've uninstalled video drivers and reinstalled a new one, an old one, a toshiba version, an nvidia driver version and all have no effect on the problem. No joy!

I've gone through and checked all the resolution and colour depth settings and trawled through the many pages of nvidia settings and toyed with any reasonable settings to find the problem. No change. Everything reset to how I found it.

I've been reading through the forums and not really found anything specific. If I've missed it then I'd love a link here slapped in my face to show how incompetent I am! ;)

I am however gonna try disconnecting the battery and power for an hour and powering up again afterwards as that seems to be the standard fix or must try for everything. What does this do exactly? Reset BIOS/CMOS etc?

Thanks in advance!

I have an Aspire 4739Z-4462. I loaded the DisplayLink display driver for linking the HDMI out to a TV. Ever since I have an unusual splt screen that effects text only. When video is displayed there's no problem but with typical text screens like Google searches or Word documents, the entire right side is lower resolution and color depth. Text virtually unreadble. Uninstalling the DiaplyLink driver didn't solve it and the Intel drivers fail to load and upgrade. It must be a software issue since certain text does appear OK. For example, balloon notifications are low resolution until I hover the mouse over them. Then they appear full color depth and perfectly readable. Has anyone heard of this or can anyone direct me to a source for resetting or upgrading the display drivers?

Answer:Half screen has different resolution & colour

Uninstall the display adapter on Device manager, right click it and select uninstall, then reboot and check if this fix your issue.

Hello everyone

Can you help?

I am running Windows XP Pro and am having trouble with the way colours display at times and am wondering if anyone has any ideas.

If I have my display settings on Highest (32 bit) some of my icons on taskbars/toolbars get a pink shadow behind them for some reason (see attachment - Bar). If I revert to the only other choice which is Medium (16 bit) the pink shadows disappear but the desktop wallpaper and all other images appear 'bitsy/blurred/blotchy or not as sharp' (sorry, I don't know how better to describe it). I have attached also some other files to perhaps assist any of you in trying to work out why this happens.

Obviously I would like all the images and icons to be as sharp and clear as possible without the pink background, but don't have any idea about what I can do to fix the problem.

It gets a bit frustrating when you find an image for wallpaper that you would really like, but when displayed it doesn't show up as crisp as it could (when on 16 bit).

Am I missing something here?

Any help or advice would be ever so appreciated, and I look forward to hearing from anyone with some ideas.

Bye for now, and thanks in anticipation.

Answer:Colour resolution / display problem

Looking at your pic it seems to me that not all the icons have this shadow. I would simply guess that the shadow is part of the graphic itself, but is in a color which 16-bit cannot display. I, personally, would stick with 32-bit for the best resolution, and learn to live with the "bonus" of having a few pink (fuschia) shadows.

Upon reboot my resolution went down to the lowest possible and color at 8-bit.

I had searched other threads saying that its the driver for the Graphics card.
I updated both OS and nvidia Graphics card.

These are my Specs:

Windows 7 32-bit
Cpu Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 Ghz Q6600
Ram: 2Gb 1024 mhz
Motherboard: Rampage Formula
Graphics Card: Sparkle Nvidia 8800 GTX 512MB
PSU: 550watts

Now ive been with Windows 7 for a few months and never had any problems. I had not installed any new software not driver not even anti virus update, just out of the blues .

Any help would be very helpful.

Thanks for all the future help

Hi,

This is an edited version of my initial post on the subject of my wife's PC resolution problem in the WTT Forums that had no luck with a solution. I thought it was worth a try here too as it really is becoming a bother:
http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showtopic=115347&st=0

This realy is not a Gamming problem, so it was in the wrong section there (Gaming) at WTT, but the section was new and I put it there to give it some support.

Her specs:
MB: Gigabyte GA-EP4ST-UD3LR (revision 1.3 which took this MB from DDR2 to DDR3)
Chipset: Intel P45
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 @ 2666MHz (not overclocked)
RAM: 4069Mb (2x 2048 DDR3 x 1333MHz)
VC: NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT (not overclocked)
OS: Dual boot XP Home / W7 Pro.

The problem is that regardless of driver and trying it out with 3 different screens (including my own Samsung Syncmaster, on W7), I cannot get anything but 800 x 600 resolution in W7 and 16 bit colour. On XP there is no problem. But on W7, regardless of or screen (tried 3) or Video Card (tried 2), The problem seems impossible to resolve.

I have tried to solve the resolution problem on W7 with the latest display driver and several other earlier versions but to no effect, including the driver that came with the 9800GT card (Vista and W7 compatable). I just cannot get anything but 600x800 and 16 bit colour.

As I am the Tech. dungeon keeper for all PC problems here at home, this is all my fault of course!

Cheers,
Lee

Answer:W7 resolution stuck on 800x600 and 16bit colour

It looks like you've made a typo, you posted GA-EP4ST-UD3LR, and I'm guessing that this should have been GA-EP45T-UD3LR?Is this copy of Windows 7 the 32-bit or 64-bit version?

I just got a new P2250 samsung syncmaster. I installed the drivers from the samsung website, the Windows 7 version, but I cant set the resolution above 1280x1024 and it has full HD, im sure my card can support the resolution (8600GT).
How can I fix this?
I have used a converter for the screen port (the blue jack thingy) because it came with the narrow one, and I have the wider port on my PC.

Also the screen colour is all orangy :S

Answer:Samsung P2250 resolution and colour problems

okay, so it has the blue VGA in, and I used a converter to make it fit my DVI port

Ok, here's the problem. I have a standard Dell Plug and Play monitor which has been running fine for 3 years now. My graphics card is a PNY Verto GeForce FX 5200 (128mb). I turn on my PC this morning to see a bubble on the taskbar saying my resolution and colour quality are all very low. The resolution has gone down to 640x480 and the colour quality is 4 bit. I can change it back to 800x600 (4bit), but when i try to change either the colour quality on ANY resolution, or put the resolution higher than 800x600, and then click 'apply', the screen turns black for a second or two, and nothing has changed. I still get the little box saying "your desktop has been reconfigured" etc etc. but nothing has changed! im still left with 640x480 on 4 bit quality, and hardly any decent games or applications can run on that!im very grateful for any help. Hi,

I know some basic stuff about computers, but I don't know how to fix this problem.

I have Windows XP. Firstly, the computer started running slower than usual for a while (a few weeks), then one day when I started the computer up, a screen came up in the DOS bit at the start asking me what mode I wanted to start in as there was a problem. I selected the option (and Im paraphrasing here) 'The last good configuration' as it seemed best. From then on, the colour went to 4 bit, and an 800x600 resolution. I can't change these settings as I normally would, as there are no other options available. I can use the computer fairly normally, except the awful colour and res. However, if the screensaver comes on, and I re-activate the screen, it will be totally messed up - the edges puffed out like a pincushion setting, black and white, lines travelling down the screen and flickering, sometimes going totally black then coming back again.

My housemate started the computer up and somehow got the original DOS screen back asking which mode to start in - he selected 'safe mode' and the colour was then good - except the internet then wouldn't connect. (I have broadband so it's normally automatic - I don't know how to connect it manually)

This is my brother's computer, so I don't know a lot about it - programs and so on - he's un-contactable at the moment and will be for a couple of months... I'd greatly appreciate any he... Read more

Answer:4 bit colour - why?

First check in Control Panel/display to make sure the color is set correctly in there. If it is look in System/Device Manager for any conflict on his Graphics card, if there is look at the troubleshooting tips.

Hi There,

I have a dell inspiron 6000 with mobile intel chipset 9145. I am trying to play TV out, but whenever i attach it to the TV - i am only getting black and white. I have tried changing the colour adminstration within properties to kodakdc and srgb colour space profile but i am still having the same problems.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Tv out Has No Colour

It could be a PAL/NTSC setting somewhere. Some laptops have a BIOS setting for TVout. If it's set for NTSC and the TV is set for PAL, or vice versa, you will get video issues. I had a an old DVD player that was 'stuck' on NTSC only. When I tried to play a PAL movie in it, it would play in black and white. Check the back of the TV or wherever all the control switches are (or just read the manual). Check the PC BIOS and the TVout settings if using separate video hardware/software....

Good luck!

Quote from: blackrainbow on June 17, 2010, 08:31:21 AMmobile intel 915 gsm chipsetThe problem most likely lies in this, as the Intel chipsets are not designed for 3D gaming and can't handle the stress. You're probably right, it's not a driver issue, it's a hardware one. It's not a problem, it's just that you've reached the limit to what the Intel video chipset can do.

I like using "windguru" for forecasting the weather. Based in the Czech Republic, they're usually spot on which is more than I can say for the local effort.

Until recently I used Netscape 7.2 and subsequent to that Opera vers 11. These both colour coded the wind speeds and gusts and the expected temperatures; you know ranging from blue for cold to red for hot. For various reasons I have had to make use of IE-8. I can't get anything in colour. Temperatures and wind speeds are just black numerals on a white background. I've searched through IE's options but can't find any tweak to resolve this. Please can anyone help with the following problem?I have Windows XP Upgrade Home Edition and everything worked well, however following a house move on resetting everything up, I have lost my red colour from everything. The monitor does show a red band (plus white and blue saying 'no signal') if I start it before powering up the system, also it has a red colour adjuster of it's own which changes nothing but does show the red colour, so to my limited knowledge I thought that meant that the monitor is ok.However, everything else is missing red and is predominantly blue, green or yellow and grey.I have tried altering all the settings, also done a system restore to a date prior to moving and nothing has changed, can anyone help please?Samwella

Answer:Help, Red Colour Loss!

This may work, may not but try removing ALL external cables from everything on your computer - power, peripherals (printers etc.), monitor, everything. Leave it for a while - this is just so you can collect yourself and calm down. Then reconnect everything very carefully. This doesn't do anything more than connect everything up again but there is just a chance that you've got some cable loose or the wrong way, you know the sort of thing. This procedure has worked for me in the past, it may work for you.Brian

My computer has blue screened a couple of times recently, if that helps.

Answer:Please Help: No colour in my windows

Check on the Manufacture site for your Video Card for any update drivers.

Also go into Safe Mode and see if it is the same.

How to Start in Safemode

1. Restart your computer.
2. Before the windows logo you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.

Do not re-install W98 yet.The probability is that you have somehow "lost" the display drivers.Try device manager in Control Panel > System.........click on the Display adapter, and properties, and then select driver and update driver. At this point you should be able to install your video card driver over again.

Try cleaning the cartridge I think you can do this within the tool box.Failing that if you have been using the other colours a lot you will find it is empty and just needs replacing. It may be showing 50% as you still have blue in the tank.

For a while now ive noticed that my games don't appear to be running in 32 bit colour mode. I notice in particular when a texture uses a range of shades from a single colour (e.g. dark blue to light blue), where you can see a 'banding' effect and doesn't look smooth as it should.

I've tried switching between 16 and 32bit colour and it doesnt appear to make any difference in games (using the game setup menus), they both look exactly the same. I've tried doing the same on my desktop (Windows), and you can clearly see a difference between the 2 colour ranges. So I don't seem to have any problems in 2D enviroments, just 3D (games in this case).

I've looked through the settings in the graphics card setup (Anti aliasing/texture filtering options etc), and I cant see anything that would related to this problem, i.e no colour mode options.

I've tried running games in different resolutions and updating my graphics card drivers, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I really have no idea what to do next.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

CPU: P4 3.4
RAM: 1 Gb
GFX: ATI Radeon X850 XT PE (256mb)
HDD: 260 Gb

GUI: Windows XP SP2

Answer:My Games Won't Run In 32 Bit Colour

Are you sure the games support it? 32bit via panel is windows native.

Question: colour problems

I run a Windows 98 SE computer with 10GB hard disc and 192 MB RAM. Recently, I had a bad time installing the Asus External CD-RW. I have already uninstalled then re-installed it and did manage to copy my latest pictures. They appeared on the CD as I expected but then, each time I tried to do anything with them the computer grumbled and crashed or froze. I persevered over several days and did get something going (using the CD drive, chiefly) but then everything went haywire and I couldn?t open any of them. Finally, all the icons changed one at a time and I watched as they changed again and 3 letters appeared on the icons, one by one. I can?t recall the letters but they did indicate that they were not going to be opened by me or anyone else now or ever! What have I done wrong? The computer was not at all happy and made complaining noises, as did I. I tried again this morning and although I was able to put them on the screen after a lot of effort, the computer didn?t like it. I tried other CDs and they were OK. So I?ve wiped the disc. Maybe it?s a duff disc. Now there are several things wrong with the computer; the colours are not right. The first thing that came up when I clicked OE was a blue notice (before the OE and Dialup window appeared.) Now it?s white and the colours in photos are weird. I?ve rebooted a couple of times and there?s no change. I?ve checked the display and it shows 256 colours. Is there anything I can do to rectify it?Any suggestions will be welcome.Silver... Read more

Answer:colour problems

You don't mention the software that you used to try to work on your images, and it would help to know that.Your display settings have certainly gone AWOL, and the first thing to do is to reset them. As you may know, you do that by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting 'properties' from the menu that appears. Click on the 'settings' tab (I'm working blind here, because I'm running WindowsXP) or whatever in Win98 that shows you two sliders - one with the resolution, and one with the colour bit depth. Move the resolution slider until it reads 1024x768, and then see if you can move the colour bit setting until it shows '16 bit'.If that works you should now be seeing a better display. If it doesn't work you may have a corrupted or missing graphics card driver, or monitor driver, or both, and we'll deal with that if it crops up.I'm puzzled - and a tad concerned - over these 'complaining noises' that you say your machine is making. Can you describe them in greater detail, and tell us precisely at what point in the proceedings they happen?

hiI would like to know if you can manually change the colour of the taskbar and the active window boxes etc in display properties box.when i right click on the desktop and go in appearance i have only got blue, silver and olive green. this is on xp home tho.can i alter it myself or do i have to download and pay for packages to do it. I have tried to do it myself but to no avail.in advance i can alter the active/inactive title boxes but then the colour only changes as the box does then goes back to the original setting or blue/silver or green.hope i made some sense!!!!

Answer:changing colour

The appearance of Windows can be changed very easily by the user.1. Click on Start > Control Panel > Display2. When the Display box opens click on either "Themes" or "Appearance"3. Modify as necessaryTip : Before making any changes make a note of the current settings so that you can go back to them if you don't like the changes that you have made.

I want to watch films, downloaded onto my hard drive, on my T.V. I've managed to get a good B & W picture and good sound to run on the T.V. but cannot figure out how to get colour. I have nVidia GeForce 4 MX 440 64MB DDR + TV out and connected to the TV with an S-VIDEO & STEREO audio capture lead. I have also tried connecting through a switch scart plug. Can't find any info anywhere that helps. Can anyone help me please, I am quite new to computers so please bear this in mind. Many thanks. Allexie X

Answer:TV out - no colour on TV screen, only B & W

Use Nview, it is in options in the Settings for the Graphics adapter.Configure for a second monitor as a TV, it may ask to restart and should be Colour then.
