I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Intel 'Skylake' pricing and box art hit the web ahead of official launch

Got tired of waiting and bought 4690k months ago. Giving todays exchange rate, paid exactly $230+VAT. Probably saved some on DDR3 vs DDR4, maybe s1151 MOBOs will be also more expensive on release, while You can buy s1150 on sales and specials. What I don't get is the sentence: 'If so, what CPU are you upgrading from or are you building an entirely new PC from scratch?'? It's not like You can upgrade just Skylake, have to basically build a new PC: CPU, MOBO, RAM. If You play building your PC, rest is usually left over from previous builds.

Microsoft?s free Windows 10 upgrade deal is looking better and better all the time. For if you already own a genuine Windows PC, you could be saving yourself upwards of a huundred to almost two hundred dollars.

Microsoft confirmed Monday that the company will sell Windows 10 at retail for the same price as Windows 8.1: $119 for Windows 10 Home, $199 for Windows 10 Professional, and $99 for a Windows 10 Pro Pack to jump from a licensed copy of Windows 10 Home to the Professional version.

That means, unfortunately, that the price leaked by Newegg's retail site over the weekend for Windows 10 Home was incorrect. NewEgg pegged the price of the Windows 10 Home Edition at $109, and the Professional version at $149. It also claimed that the software would be released on August 31.

On July 29, according to Microsoft, you?ll be able either to download Windows 10 or buy a new Windows 10 PC from retailers. And if you click the ?reservation link? that Microsoft is pushing via its most recent updates to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, you can apparently sign up to preload the software just as soon as it?s ready. Microsoft promises that upgrades will be free for the ?supported lifespan? of the device, although it hasn?t explained what that phrase actually means.

As of press time, NewEgg changed the release date of the software to reflect the July 29 launch date that Microsoft officially announced early Monday morning; the company has not yet announced a revision to its pu... Read more

Asus announced today that $599 no longer buys you a Vivo Tab RT sans keyboard, but instead will be the price of the tablet keyboard bundle pack (hmm, this sounds farmiliar). The dock includes an intergrated battery and additonal ports. This tablet is also packing NFC, notably missing in the Surface. Launch is Oct. 26 Vivo RT and the dock will also be available seperately, pricing TBA. They also anounced the Vivo Tab Smart, which esentialy takes the Vivo Tab RT and swaps in an Intel Atom processor. Available accesories include a sleeve that doubles as a kick stand and a bluetooth keyboard. Tablet is $499, accessories pricing TBA. Vivo Tab Smart will not be compatible with any of the Vivo docking stations. Dell announced pricing for the very good looking (IMO) XPS 10 RT tablet. They are charging $499 ($599 grabs you a 64 GB version) for it, and while it runs an older Snapdragon S3 chip, it includes an active digitizer. Engadget is reporting that the $499 version is LTE capable and includes a one year data plan that you can opt out of to knock $100 off the price of the tablet. If true, this is the bargain tablet to get, but I cannot find any way to do this on Dell's website, and believe me I have been trying. Add $180 to either capacity tablet for the keyboard dock that includes an extra battery and additional ports. Launching mid-December

I understand that if I buy a new computer with a a fast Intel Skylake processor, I can not run any operating system except Windows 10. In other words, I can not run Windows 7 or 8.1. Is that so and why? Thanks for any answers you all have. Brad

Answer:New computer with Intel Skylake processor

Hi, Brad: You can install W7, 8.1, and W10 as long as there is driver support for the notebook you plan to buy. The problem with the Skylake chipset is there is no native USB2 support, and there is no USB3 support in the windows 7 installation media.  So the media errors out stating a required CD/DVD driver is missing (which is the only error it knows how to report when that happens). If you plan on running W7, what you have to do is to run this tool which puts the USB3 drivers into the W7 USB installation media.  There is a readme file on the link with instructions for using the tool or converting a W7 installation DVD into a W7 installation flash drive. The tool has to be run on a PC with W8.1 or W10. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility There are many forum posts regarding this issue and the USB creator tool is the solution.  Here's two for example. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Problem-installing-Win7-on-ProBook-440-G3-HDD-... http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Problem-installing-Win7-Pro-on-P...

Hello everyone,
I am looking forward to the new technologies and innovations coming out later this year and next that will fully take advantage of the Windows 10 OS ecosystem. I have a few questions and wish list in regards to what would be best for my next purchase.CPUs: AMD zen vs Intel Skylake. What do you think would be better to purchase in regards to CPUs? I don't know too much about CPU, but I do have a basic grasp in understanding. AMD has something called HUMA: do Intel CPUs have that? AMD also has something called APUs which puts the CPU and GPU in the same core without the PCI bridge to avoid latency. Direct X 12 is also something that these new CPUs are going to be optimized for which will be great for gaming, watching HD movies, multi tasking etc. Will these chips be powerful, compact, and energy efficient to but fit into a small tablet?OLED screens: Super AMOLED and OLED are going to be used in rumored Cityman and Talkman windows phones. However can that also be used for Windows Tablet screens 7inches and higher? I am betting on OLED being the future, but I don't now if there is anything else like QED display or others which are just as thin as oled, black contrast ratios of oled, and increased range of chroma. OLED is too expensive to manufacture because of low yields.Stylus Pen: Made a thread about this, but very few OEMS are manufacturing laptops/tablets with touch screen that utilize the fine tip stylus pen like the Samsung galaxy note and surface pro seri... I would imagine they are pushing out the updates now to ensure that people that update once W7 has been released properly, have a fully updated system.

They will still be poking about trying to find vunerabilities in the OS even this close to launch - and will be for some time yet. Frequent updates must be expected!

I have not heard where anyone running Windows has been affected by this issue.  Intel has already fixed it in CPU microcode and the fix is currently being rolled out in BIOS updates.  For example, P50 already fixed it:

UEFI: 1.40 / ECP: 1.16

- (Fix) Fixed an issue where NVMe RAID might boot fail.

According to Digitimes, Intel is preparing to launch their next gen high-end processors in Q3 2017, which is most likely at Gamescom during August in Germany. Price range could be NT$15,000 to NT$57,000, that's $468 to $1,780 US dollars. Both types of cpus will run on 2066 with X299 chipset.

Intel next-generation top-end CPU platforms ready for 3Q17

Intel is planning to unveil its next-generation top-end Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X series CPUs in the third quarter of 2017, succeeding the existing Broadwell-E series with a price range between NT$15,000-57,000 (US$468-1,780). Intel may debut the two series at Gamescom 2017 in Germany in August.
At the same time, Intel is ready to announce the full series of its Kaby Lake processors at CES 2017, starting January 4, 2017. Intel already began shipping many of its Kaby Lake-S series processors including Core i7-7700K in December.
The new Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors will feature a new LGA 2066 socket and support DDR4 memory. The CPUs will pair with Intel's new X299 chipsets.
At CES 2017, Intel is expected to unveil processors including Core i7-7700K/7700, Core i5-7600K/7600/7500, Core i3-7320/7300/7100, Pentium G4620/4500/4560 and Celeron G3950/3930 as well as its low-power models including the Core i7-7700T. Just what is Intel trying to prove with their current CPU pricing?

Like we got the INTEL: 530J-PENTIUM 4 3.0GHZ 800FSB LGA775
and the INTEL: 531-PENTIUM 4 3.0GHZ 800FSB LGA775

Both come with 800FSB,
Both come with 1Mb Cache
Both come with the same Heatsink (non of this BTX business)
Both currently avalable on the market.
However the 530J comes with about a $100 more price tag than the 531.

And again, things are confusing with Dual Core
945 - PENTIUM D 3.4GHZ 800FSB
950 - PENTIUM D 3.4GHZ 800FSB
Again $100 difference

Now to the joe average computer user's eyes, what the advantage of having simulare CPUs with totally different price tags?

Like sure, there might be some difference like Cache, FSB, Core Revision or some other new technology wank word that suppose to make it better. But how does this all helps out with Joe Average that just wants a computer.

Answer:Intel CPUs Numbers and Pricing -- Confusing

The difference in L2 cache increases performance by as much as 10%. Users will notice slightly faster speeds in the acces of programs, but nothing that will dramatically increase performance. Joe Average can be told that the difference in Cache will increase the speed seen with the naked eye just slightly, and increase performance by a small margin.

Answer:Any pricing info on Intel's Haswell CPUs?

I very much doubt Intel will change their pricing structure, expect Haswell to come in at similar price points but with IPC improvements, lower power consumption and better integrated GPU.

I wouldn't call SB/IB expensive, given their performance they are reasonably priced compared to the competition. The i7 chips with Hyperthreading and the six core SB-E ones are a bit pricier but normal computer users and gamers won't need that sort of power. 1155 motherboard are around the same price as AM3+ ones too.

Hello,
Does anyone know why the new Skylake "Speed Shift" (aka Hardware P-state control) would appear disabled on my Windows 10, and how to enable it?
This is a Core i5-6500 CPU on ASUS H170-Pro mobo and incidentally when I boot into Linux (latest Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with kernel version 4.4.x) the "dmesg" output appears to show "HWP enabled".
I do have the latest Win10 release version (10586 and 1511) which should have this feature available.
See the screenshot of HWInfo64 summary showing "SST" text in red colour (also highlighted in a red circle by me) meaning it's supported/available but disabled:
My mobo BIOS (latest version) does not have "Speed Shift" option anywhere just the older "Speed Step" mentioned which I've set to "Auto" - but again - this appears to be working/enabled on Linux.
Thanks!

Answer:Intel Speed Shift not enabled on my Skylake+Win10 PC

Windows 10 v1511 does not support Hardware P-States for desktop Skylake CPUs. That's why HWInfo is showing you HWP as being disabled.
Speed Shift is currently only supported for mobile Skylake CPUs on Windows 10.

According to MSI and Biostar representatives on the Computex 2015 show floor, speaking to PC Gamer, motherboards that feature Intel's new Z170 chipset will become available this August.

Answer:Intel Skylake-supporting Z170 motherboards coming in August

It better come with Thunderbolt 3 included, if they want to attract PC enthusiasts.

On a related subject, this new Thunderbolt 3 isn't as good as we hoped...

Thunderbolt 3 also includes an update to the DisplayPort side of matters, though likely not what everyone has been expecting. With the increase in bandwidth, Thunderbolt 3 is able to carry twice as much video data as before. However Intel is not implementing the latest version of DisplayPort ? DisplayPort 1.3 ? in to the Thunderbolt 3 standard. Instead they are doubling up on DisplayPort 1.2, expanding the number of equivalent DisplayPort lanes carried from 4 to 8, essentially allowing one Thunderbolt 3 cable to carry 2 full DisplayPort 1.2 connections. The end result is that Thunderbolt 3 will not be able to drive the kind of next-generation displays DisplayPort 1.3 is geared towards ? things like 8K displays and 5K single-tile displays ? but it will be able to drive anything 1 or 2 DisplayPort 1.2 connections can drive today, including multiple [email protected] monitors or 5K multi-tile displays.Click to expand...

source: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9331/intel-announces-thunderbolt-3

So, basically, they had all the opportunity to have DisplayPort 1.3 included, but decided not to. That is just wrong... It won't even support a single-tile 5K screen. And if so, then what good is it, really?

*RESOLUTION*
-Go to your BIOS(After restarting or powering on computer keep tapping F2 once the Dell logo is present)
-Scroll down to Performance
-DISABLE C state
-Apply, save, exit
-Disable sleep in your control panel power options
Enjoy your now functional XPS 8900 that used to freeze multiple times a day.

Below is what it was initially doing before I found a fix
So I recently got xps 8900, immediately installed a SSD drive and upgraded the ram from 8GB to 16GB.
I also used the old logitech solar keyboard and logitech wireless mouse from the old computer(they use a little usb receiver) and only been using these wireless devices for today and it's frozen twice. Couldn't even plug in a usb mouse or keyboard and have the computer respond.

For the first two days while doing the initial ssd install and windows 10 updates this computer stayed on for two straight days using the included wired mouse/keyboard. No issues with computer freezing or booting up.
But when I gave this computer as a Christmas gift then installed the old wireless logitech keyboard and mouse the computer has frozen twice in a span of 8 hours.
So I'm not sure if it's a USB issue or if the wifi card is causing problems because I've seen a few threads mention to remove this card or disable a wifi driver as they've had BSOD or other issues.
Computer looks great and seems to run perfectly, until these last two freezing issues. I plan on bu... Read more

Hi All,

I would like to know more about Windows 7 support for the Intel Kaby lake/Skylake CPUs. What will happen when I deploy windows 7 OS onto a new laptop/desktop with that CPU?

My understanding is that one of the follow two scenarios will occur.
1)Windows updates will be downloaded and installed as per normal but they won't be tested for that platform/OS combination. So MS won't provide any support if the behavior of some software changes.
2)There might be some logic built into the updates so that when it detects windows 7 with kaby/skylake, the updates will simply not be installed.

Also, to add to the above - Will deploying the patches via SCCM/WSUS influence the above behavior?

I have already conducted some research, but couldn't get to the answer.

Regards,
Gerhard

Hi Community,
My XPS 13 9350 (4k touchscreen) continues to have issues with the screen flickering.  The screen flickering occurs in one of two ways.
Temporary Flickering.  Screen flickers off and on quickly, twice every second.  Turning the computer to sleep and back on again can fix this issue.
Permanent flickering.  Screen flickers off and on quickly, twice every second.  When the screen turns black a weird horizontal bar with different colors displays across the middle of the screen.  After a few seconds the screen stabilizes but then flashes again and repeats the pattern.  Turning the computer the sleep and back on doesn't normally resolve the issue.  I have to turn off the computer completely wait 5 to 10 minutes before turning it back on.  This occurs when I using the laptop on my lap or during my 1 hour bus commute to college.

I tried updating the video card drivers.  Currently it's 20.19.15.4444 (Intel 520)
BIOS:  1.3.3
Updated all drivers via the "Dell Update" software client.
Disable Panel Self Refresh: Via Intel HD control panel
Changed resolutions:  1080p
Changed Refresh rate: 60p Hz -> 48 Hz
Attached an external monitor via dell TB15.  Mix results, the display shows other issues which I believe are most due to the poor TB15 dock than the XPS itself.
Any ideas?

I just read in a different posting that there are known  incompatibility issues with Intel's Skylake motherboards and early-manufactured Hynix memory chips.  These memory chips would have been assembled into modules by other companies who slap their name on the memory.  (I had never even heard of Hynix as a memory manufacturer before, but I just read in Wikipedia that they are the second largest manufacturer of memory in the world after Samsung.)  I have been having all sorts of memory problems using Corsair ValueSelect DDR4 260-Pin SODIMM 2133 (PC4 1700) Memory in my P50 and I am wondering whether anyone else is having similar problems?  I haven't yet determined whether the Corsair memory is based upon the early Hynix modules but this would explain everything.

P50, Intel Xeon E3-1505M v5, 4K, NVidia Quadro M2000M 4GB, Dual Samsung 950 PRO 512GB NVMe drives non-RAID, 32 GB Crucial Technology DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000). Windows 10 Home.

Hello,
Does anyone know when Dell will put out the BIOS FIX for this machine? They already did for the 7050 and the 7440aio and similar models back in June/First Week but not the 7040s running 6th gen same processors?
According to the news, for 6th gen it should already be available from the oems, and for now, disable the hyper-threading in the bios but that makes it WORSE running at 0.87 etc. Needs updated for the 7040s.
Thanks!

Answer:Dell OptiPlex 7040 (Skylake - Intel Bug) Hyper-Threading BIOS FIX?

The June BIOS updates for the 7050 and 7440AIO make no specific mention of the H-T issue. So do you know that H-T was already fixed for those models?
And if you read the article at ExtremeTech:
"For the record, while ExtremeTech believes Intel that these errata exist, we are not aware of any software programs affected by them and have not observed any issues with our Skylake or Kaby Lake testbeds. Our Core i7-7700K and Core i7-6700K both performed flawlessly when tested in our benchmark suites over the past six months."

According to several sources, Intel's Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs seem to have a microcode bug.
See e.g https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/06/25/intel_skylake_kaby_lake_microcode_bug/.
Disabling hyper-theading is recommended as a work-around.

Hi guys,
have anyone from you terrible mouse, keyboard or gamepad reception thru radio dongle? im using this NUC 6i5SYH, 8GB Kit Kingston 2133Mhz DDR4, 250GB Crucial MX200 SSD, 2TB Seagate M9T HDD with my TV LG OLED 55EG910V (HDMI) and Microsoft All-in-one Media Keyboard.
It has terrible LAG from 2-3m distance on IDLE, even worst if some work is done on it. (once I was installing something big on my SSD and the mouse doesnt even move a bit, totally freeze out there till the end of installation)
Windows 10 is clean install from USB, with just necesary drivers from Intel site.
Tried also with my Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830, Logitech G700s Mouse + 2x Logitech F710 Wireless Gamepads same issue. Gamepads doesnt work at all from distance 2m+ , from close range lot of lags.
Already tried install latest BIOS + drivers, uninstall Realtek Soundcard (as mentioned in other sites) none of them worked.
All my peripherals work flawlessly on front Case USB 3.0 header under Windows 7 Pro SP1 (ASUS Maximus IV GENE Z + Silverstone TJ08-E)
So Im sure it has something to do with crappy Windows 10 + USB 3.0 on Intels NUC
Should I contact Intel or perhaps Microsoft to deal with my issue?
Any help would be appreciated.

You cannot use the Intel drivers because Dell customizes drivers for your specific model laptop. If ever there is an update for your model it will come from Dell--but that rarely happens.

The X6800 outclasses the AMD CPUs by a wide margin in virtually every circumstance of performance measurement. The CPU also runs cool in comparison to earlier Intel CPUs and consumes less than 75W. By any standard of measurement the X6800 is an success bringing Intel back on top.

The E6700 which has a rather interesting naming scheme considering itís only 266MHz slower than the x6800 while having the same cache and structure is right in there with the x6800 in performance, slower than its bigger brother but faster than the competition. For a suggested MSRP of $530, the E6700 is an easy choice for those wanting a fast system without wanting to shell out a grand.

Hello HP community,I have quite a problem here. I game on this HP 15-r032nx notebook that I obtained about a year and a half ago (as silly as it seems, but I'm a low-spec gamer, so anything goes), and I've been vouching for Intel to grab the latest Intel HD Graphics drivers, as the official ones provided by HP are sorely outdated (a little bit over a year, to be exact, latest official driver was released back in August 2015), meanwhile Intel's latest driver update was released in the middle of August 2016. But, the big thing was, when I decided to revert into HP's official latest drivers, all my games' performances improved marginally. I seriously feel the performance could be further improved by having HP release their version of the latest drivers for Intel HD Graphics 4400, but unfortunately I do not see that for my laptop model. Anything going on here?

Answer:Official HP Intel HD Graphics 4400 Drivers Outdated

Nothing is going on. HP does not create the drivers for the HD 4400 graphics, Intel does. It is their product. The graphics solution  is on the same chip as the CPU\APU and not on the system board. Your best source for an Intel HD 4400 graphics driver will be at the Intel driver download website

Answer:News item "Major Hyper-Threading Flaw Destabilizes Intel Kaby Lake, Skylake CPUs"

If your Dell computer has a Skylake or Kaby Lake CPU it is affected. I am also interested in how this issue will be addressed whether through a Windows 10 microcode update or a BIOS/UEFI update. IF you have a Kaby Lake CPU and the update is a microcode update to Windows you may be out of luck if you don't have Windows 10.

Hi,
All of you must be knowing that Intel successfully tested its new 80 cores processor in Dec last year or jan. this year. Its clock speed is 1.7 THz and it consumes 65W (Only). And its exactly same in size as that of a simple 65nm processor. So, intel is going to launch it for home as well as corporate users.
Thus,
Does anyone here know when intel is going to launch that processor for home users?

I have had this software installed on my computer for over 1.5 years now and never had this issue. All of the sudden whenever I launch Acrobat Reader 8 Professional. I get the error message saying I must launch at least one other suite program before it will run. It comes up with this error... even though I'm already running Photoshop and Illustrator.

The only thing I can think of is that I just recently downloaded and installed Adobe AIR for TweetDeck. Does anyone know if this could cause the problem or how to fix it?

I can't run TweetDeck without the Adobe AIR????

i am using xp pro and i only display 3 icons in the quick launch area of the taskbar. they are a/v, speaker vol, and firewall. these used to show up within seconds of the desktop being displayed. however, the a/v icon pops up right away, on startup, but the speaker and firewall icons wont show up for 2-3 minutes. during this time, the machine s usable (slightly slow). now i use Codestuff Starter v5.6.1.19 to control my startup items and only the 3 previously mentioned are included there. when this first started, i did a restore from when it was good and that didnt help. i am not adverse to a format if necessary. i need your help/advice and tkz in advance, aloha

Answer:quick launch icons/progs real slow to launch

Download and run the programs in my signature and run the trend micro house call. Let us know what it finds. This sound like it could be a spyware issue.

Answer:slow launch of quick launch icons on startup

For clarification, the Quick Launch area is to the imediate right of the Start button (if its enabled). At the far right is the System Tray (with the clock). Are you saying it got slower after you installed Code Starter and can't get the speed back?

Does anyone know when Lenovo will make Skylake available in the W550S (or whatever it calls the successor model)... I'd like to buy one! Thanks.

Answer:W550S with Skylake?

Hi. There won't be a W-series successor to the W550s as the workstations are now called P-series. But I am fairly certain that we'll see a successor to the W550s, we'll just have to wait and see.

Cheers!

Ive read that Lga1151 usb 2.0 port will not work on windows 7 during installation. So it means it will only work on usb3.0 during installing OS.

Ive also read that you can only install it using dvd drive.

My question is that after installing win7 using dvd drive. Will the usb 2.0 work after?

Answer:Windows 7 on skylake CPU

Most motherboard manufacturers have a workaround for the USB 2.0 issue--such as a BIOS setting or a way to inject the proper drivers into a Windows 7 ISO.

It's not true that you can install only from a DVD. I did not use a DVD when I rebuilt 2 months ago.

Yes, your USB 2.0 ports will work later.

Question: Skylake processors

Hi looking to buy a new computer but would like to stay on Windows 7
So decided to avoid the 7th gen. I7

As I would like to keep automatic updates rather than manually having to find patches.
But after further Reading find the sky Lake. Supported updates only work on Pacific makes and models according to the windows end of life list.
But I also have a read it does work on some not on the list I am very confused what information is correct and what is correct and what isn't don't really want to spend £1,000 on a possibility

Was looking to buy MSI GE62 6QL Apache (9S7-16J532-210)

Thanks damien

Question: Pricing up a Job

If you are just starting out and dont know much about pricing a job, how do you get a good figure a client, and you are happy with??

for example...

networking 6 machines in 6 different rooms to a hub then router to allow internet access.
settting up 6 logins and a small file server.

is there anywhere that gives a guide or indication of charging prices for general contract jobs?

Answer:Pricing up a Job

I think pricing depends on alot of things.

1. The Area, where I live I charge $30.00 per hour, people think that's alot around here but if I was in Denver charging the same people would think that was cheap.

2. Experience, when I get a new tech on my staff we don't charge as much on his jobs because it's kind of a given that he is going to have some problems at first. After a month or 2 of doing work we raise him up to the standard rate. I don't feel it's fair to make the customer pay the same rate to have somebody who's new to the business. Either cut the rate or charge them for less time than it actually took.

Networking machines can sometimes be hard, if pulling the cable is going to be a pain in the ass then I usually charge more than if they have say a drop ceiling through the whole building or raised floor.

First I figure out what materials I would need, price them out, walk the cable run's and get a general idea of how much cable I need. If the machines are all the same and an Operating System that I know shouldn't give me much trouble (Windows 2000 and up). Depending on what all they need on the file server. Usually I figure 2 to 5 hours to configure a basic server, get all the hardware, software configured, add users, setup shares. Sure it usually doesn't always take that long but I would rather bid a little high and come in low as opposed to having to go back and charge more...customers really dont' like that.

Question: XP Pricing...

Why can you go to google and search for microsoft xp pro and find it for anywhere from 50-199 bucks a copy. Are the cheap people out there really selling legit copies of this software?
For instance...

http://www.buy-oem-cd.com/?pid=350&c...&page=winxppro

http://directdepot2u.com/item.asp?PID=671

That is just a taste there are lots of sites that are very similar.

Answer:XP Pricing...

It's possible that they never updated their lists after price drops. I'd buy it from a store though. If I'm not mistaking XP Pro at a store is $100. And home is $50 I think.

Question: Win 7 OEM Pricing

So has anyone heard when MS is going to announce the pricing on OEM versions of Win 7?

This is getting crazy. We are less than 6 weeks from D-Day (Oct. 26) and we do not have pricing on a single Windows 8 device. This was not a big deal on past Windows launches as price were expected to stay the same because the products were mostly the same. But with Windows 8 we are expecting one new product category (ARM devices) and two greatly expanded product lines (Hi power Core iX series tablets/convertables and low power Atom/AMD powered tablets/convetables). We are so close to launch date that companies will have had to roll into production mode already for launch devices in order to build up an inventory and get devices shipped to their destination stores. The Best Buys and Amazons and the like will have already placed orders for launch devices, and would have needed to know MSRP to make ordering desicions. So why keep the consumer in the dark? Why not make some announcements and let the marketing machine begin to build up some hype. There are a large number of people that don't follow technology news that that don't even know a new version of Windows is about to launch.

Answer:Can we get some pricing already?

To drive us wild with expectation and frustration...you are just one more victim or casualty

Question: Ram Pricing ?

Im just wondering why these two sticks of ram are so different
in price. They are both the same except for a difference of 512
megs but the price differs by $150. Im just curious.........

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...144-202&depa=0
kingtson 512MB===$55.01

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...141-429&depa=0
Kingston 1GB===$206

Answer:Ram Pricing ?

First of all, this is computers. The more you have, the more expensive it'll get per increase. The bigger you get, the price increases exponentionally. Like of couse 1gig will not be double the price of 512, cauze then under the same logic i'd go buy 2gb ram for 4x the price of 512. But wait, 256 mb, is cheaper, so why don't i just buy 2 gigs of ram for 8x w/e 256 mb cost?

Anyways, that won't make up for 100% of the cost. I think that the qualitiy of the ram varies. So the 1 gig of ram is higher qulity than the 512 ram.

With my below components, can I expect any problems (besides the WDM Creative card report from the upgrade advisor) with my components??

Please advise.. Thx

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (2 CPUs), 3.1
ASUS M2N32 SLI Deluxe Wireless (NVIDIA NFORCE) 590

Creative X-FIXtremegamer
HP w2408h HDMI - 1920x1200 Res
2-160GB RAID 0 and 1TB Drive
Artic Cooling Freezer 64Pro

Answer:Looking ahead

Creative has new drivers, so not a problem. In all previous builds, the driver worked flawlessly. I had to re-install it in build 7600, but likely due to a conflict created by the install of Sun VirtualBox.

You look good to go.

I'm trying to keep my old computer running as smooth as possible until I get another one in the not too distant future. I have Norton/Symantec as my security program. At one time I had a few other programs that helped protect my computer & things were running fine.

Then I had a problem & I called Norton & they wanted to do the deal where they hook-up with my computer. I noticed they were getting rid of the other security programs I had - & they told me that having them could mess up Nortons ability to do what it did.

I've recently noticed that I still have files on my computer from the program I had called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. The person that told me about this program said it was good to have & wouldn't be a problem to have it along with Norton. When I say Norton I mean the security & anti-virus program that I pay for every year from them.

Anyway - being a novice I have this question. Is it good for me to have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware & run it once in a while even though I have Norton. I had the free version of it. If its OK to have it......should I just uninstall the files I have on it & then download the free version they have now which is probably updated from when I had it before.

Answer:Should I go ahead & do the following?

Looking ahead to FF 57 (expected to be released Nov. 14) :
1) Firefox 57 will feature a new core engine, called Quantum, that purports to make FF 57 run twice as fast as FF 52 (released about a year ago).
2) FF 57's Photon User Interface will offer a new look for the entire browser.
3) Firefox 57 will replace the old Add-ons API with the new WebExtensions API.  As a result,  legacy add-ons that have not been ported to Firefox's new add-ons technology will stop working  --- meaning that nearly 75% of all Firefox add-ons won't be available to users on the new version.

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Please move hijackthis to the root of C:\.
Do you know what program this entry is related to? C:\Program Files\Mini Motty\skinkers.exe

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the log?..

Download Winsock2Fix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Open add/remove programs and remove the following if listed.

NewDotNet
Messenger Plus
Ares

Messenger Plus= Produces adware on the PC.

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be but make sure)

C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 2\MsgPlus.exe

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

Hello...my son's MSI GE60 OND (think it's a OND anyway) laptop which came with win8.1 has not yet got the go-ahead to install win10.

We signed up for it when it came out and got the win 10 icon ...but it states something along the lines that it isn't yet ready to be installed.

The MSI website isn't much good .....I have an account but can't log in as I now need a code that I haven't got , to log in. Some companies seem to try to discourage forums in my opion-

The laptop though doesn't seem to appear on their list though of LAPTOPS OK FOR UPDATES.
Windows 10 MDA Microsites

However the specs are better than my homemade PC which is upgraded as is my son's

Is it still early days (in europ?) and should I wait or should I force the update (registry edit required I believe)

thanks

you can download the iso and install it. You may want to create an image file of the current install in case there is a reason for not getting the download.

So back in June I purchased a mostly specced out Spectre x360 with 3 years of HP Total Care Support. Do you guys think HP might let me trade for the newer one with Skylake via warranty claim since the update is so incremental and well within the life cycle of the early 2015 model? It kind of really sucks that they released a model with Skylake so soon after I purchased mine and a lot of the benefits like battery life are huge for me since I'm rarely near an electric outlet (I got a custom made Spectre with the i7, 8gb of RAM, and 512Gb of SSD, but went with the 1080p display for battery life).

Answer:Spectre x360 w/ Skylake

Originally Posted by Mason Sell Do you guys think HP might let me trade for the newer one with Skylake via warranty claim I am not sure they would do that, but why don't you call them and ask? Spectre x360 with broadwell is already an amazing machine. after a rigorous research i settled to buy spectre x360 when it was first released but then i knew that skylake will be available at the end of this year. so i waited for skylake. although there wont be much of performance difference in U series of skylake some improvement is always a plus. so i know how you feel. it is really a bummer to see the next gen machine is just released when you have just bought an old one. but this is how it goes in electronics. If you are happy with the machine and feel that it will be future proof for what you do i would say to carry on with this as long as you want. but if you feel disappointed, and regretting you should have waited for skylake then just exchange it/ sell it as soon as possible and buy the new one and be happy.
