Installed Program Not Listed Under Installed Programs

Question: Installed Program Not Listed Under Installed Programs

Hi everyone,

I'm currently running BitDefender 9 but it is going to expire in a few days time so I was after the new version. I downloaded the trial from the BitDefender website but when I tried to install it, I was told I needed to uninstall my current version.

I went to Add/Remove programs like usual but for some reason BitDefender is not listed. I went to BitDefender in programs and clicked 'modify, repair or uninstall' and it tells me 'this action is only valid for products that are currently installed'.

I have no idea how I'm meant to uninstall BitDefender 9 since it is not listed! The program is clearly running and installed so I have no idea why it would not be shown as a currently installed program!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Installed Program Not Listed Under Installed Programs

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I recently installed and uninstalled a program. However, the entry for the program still remains in the Installed Programs list in the Control Panel. I have examined the Registry keys under uninstall and I cannot find this program listed there to be manually deleted. How do I remove this entry? Any advice is appreciated.

Answer:Uninstalled program still listed in Installed Programs

have you done a reboot since you uninstalled the program?
Only time ive had this happen, there has been remainders of the program in program files. Deleting them solved the issue for me.

out of interest what is the program? ill do some searching to see if this is a common issue.

The B user does not have a high enough level to run programs that alter the system. Promote B to a higher level. Or crate a new account for that user.

When I open my list of default programs, my MS Office 2010 is not listed.

Does anyone know why and how I can ADD MS Office to my list of programs??

Thanks !!!

Listed Green

Answer:MS Office 2010 installed but not listed in my default programs

had the same problem, but with the beta version.

anyway, there are some who claim that they have to do it manually, depending on which version of office you installed, 64 or 32, will depend to which folder your exe's are in.
here is the 32 version:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14
the 64 is the same, but without (x86).
here is a quick summary how to do it manually:
Right click on a document in Windows Explorer and then select Open with and then click on the Choose default program and browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14 and then located and click on the WINWORD.EXE item and set that as the default application to be used.

Answer:Some installed programs not listed and running in another user account?

Just visit the limited account and download / install the desired program . Unless I am not reading things right this will work . If you have any trouble just change the limited account to an administrative account and download the desired program then change back to a limited account .

Some (3, out of maybe 20) of my installed Programs, all working perfectly well, are not listed in Control Panel -> Programs and Features.

Any ideas on how to rectify this, please?

Thank you.

Answer:Some installed Programs not listed in Programs and Features...

Some programs do not really "Install" by using normal installation process by writing entries in the Registry and so don't show up as uninstallable. "Portable programs" are an example. If they don't have Uninstall.exe (or similar file) in it's folder, you can just delete folder and shortcut.

I just wonder why some of my apps are not listed there?! I also tried "apps and features" from settings and still some of my installed software don't show up there either!
Even tried with 3rd party uninstaller program (Revo) and still no trace of these installed software!

EX: Cubase, Photpshop, Premiere, etc

Answer:Uninstall or change a program (Some installed apps not listed) !

After touching the W10 icon, try 'All Apps' on the bottom left.

Check if your program is listed there, then right-click and 'Uninstall'.

Hello there, everybody!
Half a year ago my laptop's hard disk's clusters began to fail, so I finally had to change it with a Western Digital Scorpio Black 750 GB - 7200rpm (WD7500BPKT).
When reinstalling Windows 7 Home Premium x64, I decided to dedicate the C:\\ unit to the OS "only", and E:\\ to programs and files of all sorts.

I've then installed all of my programs by sending them to their respective folders, E:\\Program Files\ and E:\\Program Files (x86)\ .
But I'm now noticing all of them are running in x32 mode!
The only programs running in x64 are those forcedly installed into the C:\\Program Files\ folder (which my Italian OS calls C:\\Programmi\, although program installers install into C:\\Program Files\).

Is it that Windows isn't recognizing any Program Files folders but the default ones in C:\\?

Any clarifications, suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Programs installed in E:\\Program Files run as x32

A program does not run in 32 bit or 64 bit depending on where it is installed. It does not matter where you install it. A 64 bit program will run as 64 bit and a 32 bit program will run as 32 bit. I can only assume your software is 32 bit...or it is running as 64 bit. The limited information you have given is not enough.

A virus or something hit my Compaq computer. I have Windows XP and Norton Anti-virus. Norton was in the process of blocking the virus when the system froze up completey and a re-boot was the only option. Some of the XP start up files were corrupted or deleted or something, so that Windows XP will no longer start properly. The welcome screen comes up fine, but the desktop is now just a completely blank blue screen, no error messages, no icons, no start menu, task bar....nothing. So I cannot open any programs or do anything except CNTRL ALT DEL to shut down or restart. I tried to do a restore in safe mode - didn't work. Then I tried to re-install XP in repair mode, and I kept getting error messages that certain (multiple) files could not be copied. In the end, the repair installation was unsuccessful. So, I did a complete new install of Windows XP to a new folder (c:\windows2). This install worked fine. Now there are 2 versions of XP on my computer and when I boot up I have to choose which one to use. My question is regarding the programs that were already installed, such as MS Office, Norton Anti-Virus, Family Tree Maker etc. How do I get the newly installed XP to recognize these programs which were previously used by the now dysfunctional XP? When the new XP starts and I click on programs, none of the programs installed on the computer are listed. How do I pull them in to the new XP? If I re-install the programs then I won't have my data saved in the previous versio... Read more

Do you have a folder listing for Intuit (the parent company) in all programs? The turbo tax icon might be in there.

I recently added Mp3MyMp3.exe to Vista Home Premium and it did not work. I would like to take it off the drive but it's not showing in add/remove programs and there is no uninstall utility that came with the program.

P.S. It said after installation was not successful after I ran the program and closed it for the first time.

Please help.

Answer:Installed Program not showing in Add/Remove Programs

An uninstaller was not included because mp3mymp3.exe is actually a standalone program that technically does not need to be installed to run.

If you wish to remove the program simply delete the mp3mymp3 folder and it's contents.

Answer:A program that shows me all the programs that are installed and their keys

>> Ok...does anybody know a program that shows me ALL the programs that are installed on my computer and also their Keys? <<

WinAudit 2.27 as well as Belarc Advisor are both freeware "PC Audit" types programs which list all hardware components as well as the programs that have been installed on your computer.

Both of these audit programs will also will show some of your program's license information and product keys (besides the Microsoft keys) but not ALL keys. WinAudit does not require any installation you just click on it after you download it. Belarc does require installation however it is a very tiny program installation and it is very easily uninstalled if you do not like it and want to remove it afterwards.

Side Note: As for finding some kind of "All-in-One" computer software audit program that does everything that you want (listing programs, license information and product keys, etc); as far as I know there is no program freeware or shareware currently available that will that will search your computer and list ALL product keys.

The problem is that not all shareware software programs which require product keys store this information in the same place and this information is frequently hidden and consequently is not very easily found by conventional software audit programs.

Good Luck!

Hello! I just came home from a vacation I went on (wasn't really much of a vacation though, long story short there were some rude people that sort of ruined it for me) to find out that there is now malware on the family computer, and I'm the only tech-savvy guy in this house, so I'm also the one that has to find a way to remove it!

To sum up what he basically did, he wanted a video recording application that was, I quote, "better than fraps." So, instead of waiting a few minutes to ask his tech-savvy brother who knows a few good recording applications, or even waiting to ask for approval on a program, what does he do? HE DOWNLOADS THE FIRST THING HE SEES ON A GOOGLE AD. (Sorry for the unnecessary caps lock, just sort of pissed off.) The program he downloaded was named ezvid (obviously, don't download it.) He said he likes it. I don't think it was worth the cruddy malware, myself. Looking at my Task Manager window, I see a few new foreign programs that don't look like they belong...

- "DefaultTabSearch.exe" and an additional tab labeled "DefaultTab Update Service"
- "Optimizer Pro Smart Scan" and "Optimizer Pro Speed Guard"

Dear Tech Support:

This anomaly has been around a while on my computer which is a Compaq Presario (not that it matters much). I don't know when it started but I know this isn't right. What would cause the add/remove program list to have these garbage images embedded? In this case, the garbage is several scroll bars in length.

See the screen captures below. What is this stuff and how do I get rid of it?

Pretty messed up, huh?

Click on the CCleaner link below in my sig area and install. Then run CCleaner and click on tools - left side. A list of installed programs will appear. See if the ones in question are there and delete them.

Louis,This issue may occur if the Outlook registry key is corrupted. When other programs try to use the Outlook Simple MAPI interface, they cannot retrieve the required information from the registry. You must first remove the corrupted Outlook registry key, and then perform a Detect and Repair operation to have Outlook rebuild the key. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook
Select the subkey, and then press DELETE.
Click Yes.
Quit Registry Editor.
Start Outlook.
On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the repair.

Important: Above section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

I have just yesterday installed Windows Vista Ultimate on my computer on a new partition (two new HDs for RAID0 ) and I did not touch my previously installed XP or any of the programs installed on it, in fact, I am able to run most of those programs!! such as Wimamp and multiple games! This took me by surprise as I expected to have to reinstall everything. However I can run them, yes, but to do so I have to find the .exe files for whatever I want to run, or create a short cut! (or for the games, it automatically creates an entry for the games in "Games" which is beyond awsome!)

Is there anyway I can have Vista scan my computer for applications, or my previously installed Windows XP for applications, and set itself up for them? so I can type in the search box in the start menu thingy and they will come up? If not I fear I will have to reinstall everything anyway just over the pre-existing installs >.<

Let me know if you need more info!
Thanks!

I am trying to help my Mother with her computer. The other day I went to Windows Update, and one of the updates offered was an upgrade to IE9. The update was successful. After re-booting I tried to open the browser, but nothing happened. I mean nothing....after double clicking the shortcut, nothing happened. So I went to Run and typed in "iexplore.exe"......again nothing. So I went back to the updates section and looked at the update history....yes it was there "Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows Vista" and the status was "successful".

She uses Google Chrome most of the time, so I didn't worry about it for a couple of days. But then I noticed that I could not print any email messages from Windows Mail. I googled that problem and learned that Windows Mail get its instructions from IE. At that point I decided enough was enough and proceeded to try to uninstall IE9 and revert back to IE8.

Again after googling, I learned that an IE9 uninstall has to be performed from the Installed Updates section of Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features. Here is the big problem....when I click on "view installed updates", the IE9 update is nowhere to be found.

So I am stuck and asking for help. My computer shows that IE9 was successfully updated in the Windows Update section (when I dig down and look at the details the version is listed as 9.0.8.112.16421).....but it doesn't work, nothing happens when I try to open it. ... Read more

Umm... Okay, I did two things, that should NOT have affected any system configurations, however, somehow something happened.

I have a Agere PCI Soft Modem that has been fine for a year now. Well, two days ago I turned of "File Indexing" via my HD, and disabled system restore (smart, considering what happened) to further space on my HD which is clogged with data I can't seem to find and eradicate.

Anyways, by doing this, somehow my modem has gotten messed up along the way.

Upon tying to connect to the internet via Juno's Dialer, Windows informs me:

"Microsoft Windows has no Modems listed for this computer"

However, the modem is installed and working just fine via COM3, like it always has.

So, it will not dial. When trying to make a "Dial-up Connection" via my Dial-Up Networking system, it also, will not let me create a dial-up connection, only a broadband connection. Which I'm not using.

I really have tried a lot to fix this, uninstalling the modem, cold shutdown, and putting the modem back in the system in another PCI slot (now 1) to no avail.

It's now once again installed, but still doesn't work. I've even reinstalled Juno, spent two hours looking for our 9 year old beaten up CD, and hoped to god it worked.

Anyways, is anyone familiar with a problem like this? How may I go about fixing it.

The funny bit: Juno can still use the modem to connect to get new access numbers through the "Access numbers ... Read more

Answer:Windows has no modems listed, but it's installed!

It would have been helpful if you had included all this information in your other thread.
As it is it's probably best now to keep this thread for your modem problem and the other one for space issues.

I would start by putting the Modem back into the original PCI slot as it worked in that slot before.
Then try uninstalling the Modem drivers in Device Manager and re-booting the PC.

Yep, I checked the list of available downloads for my new K330 7727-3GU desktop and found that the BIOS on the machine is newer than what is losted on the download site. What gives?

Answer:Why are the listed BIOS versions older than what is installed on my new K330?

Yeh, it's a little confusing sometimes.

If your system is new, then you could have a newer bios than what's listed on the site.  On the other hand, you could have the same bios that's listed, just with a different date.  With the new support site just recently coming online, updates posted on the driver page can be a bit behind.

My suggestion is to read the readme file that's associated with any driver listing and that will give you the correct version of the driver which then can be matched with the version that's on your machine.  Your new machine should have the latest versions of drivers.

I activated it
SP1 (KB976932) appeared in the list of available updates so I ran Windows Update
When the updates were complete I checked the update history and SP1 (KB976932) was successful
However when I checked installed updates there was no mention of SP1 and the windows edition does not show SP1 either
There is no windows icon on the task bar to request the free upgrade to windows 10
I have repeated the clean install process 3 times with the same result. I also tried downloading SP1 from microsoft website but that got stuck in a boot loop
When I was running windows 7 32 bit the windows icon was available on the task bar to request the free upgrade to windows 10
I'm not that concerned about getting SP1 I just want to register for the free windows 10 upgrade
I'm running an Intel E6750 with 4gb ram on a gigabyte 965p-dq6 mobo. It's pretty old but I have a similar PC of the same vintage that ran win 7 64 bit without any problems before I upgraded it to windows 8 and I had no problems registering for the windows
10 upgrade on that PC
Any ideas?

SP1  (KB976932) appeared in the list of available updates and in the update history

Answer:Checking for some driver updates I looked into KB2934018 listed and found it not installed!!

hi tripplec,

If you see the Windows 8.1 Update (KB2919355) been installed already under the Control Panel (icon views) > Programs and Features > View Installed Updates and on Control Panel (icon views) > Windows Update > View Update History then your problem might be relevant to  this article

If you see the Windows 8.1 Update (KB2919355) or the KB2934018 being available on the Recommended or Optional updates then I recommend you install it.

Alternatively, you can also install it manually using the package below:

Hello Billy,

"Search Protection" looks like one of those extra options not paid attention to that get installed while installing another program. I'd recommend to uninstall this garbage.

Search Protection by Spigot - Should I Remove It?

?The Spigot Search Settings is an application which is part of the Spigot Toolbar. Spigot searchsettings.exe'spurpose is to check periodically your default search engine and restore it to Yahoo in case you agreed to set it to Yahoo in the first place and another application is trying to change it. It's easy to uninstall Spigot Inc Seach Settings at any time. Since the application is part of the toolbar, you must uninstall the Spigot toolbar and that will remove all tracks of searchsettings.exe spigot. Removing a Spigot toolbar from the control panel is easy - Just follow the steps below. Neither the Toolbar nor search settings Spigot Inc are not Spigot Malware, they are simple programs that can be removed easily from your machine. The toolbar communicates with our servers from time to time to check for available software updates such as bug fixes, patches, enhanced functions and new versions. By installing the toolbar, you agree to automatically request and receive updates. When there is a material change to the reference notices or the toolbar software, we will notify you though a pop-up in your web browser. At that point you will be given the chance to accept the new changes and update the toolbar or decline the new changes a... Read more

I went check in "All programs" and nothing is highlight, no new program.

I scanned with my MalwareByte AntiMalware and with my Avast antivirus. There is no infection.

I wonder if I got an undetectable virus/spyware/keylogger or not. How can I know?

(Or could it simply be microsoft error? Am I infected?)

Answer:Java AV Books program, listed in Control panel/programs at 51GB?

Have you downloaded a program (or an entire book) for digital books\ebooks?  While in the Control Panel\Add-Remove Programs list, did you click on the entry for more information?  Need more details.   You could do a Google search for "Java AV Books" and probably find more information than you ever wanted.

When I download a program & install it, sometimes it will show up in the Add/Remove Programs list, sometimes it won't. Why is that? And how do I remove a program that doesn't show up in the list? Thanks.

Answer:Why Don't All Installed Programs Show Up In Add/Remove Programs List?

Depends how the application was written and what installer the author used.

If it does not show up in Add/Remove programs, it should have an "uninstall" file in the program's directory which would achieve the same thing.

Answer:installed programs not shown in control panel/programs

Do you have other users who are set to admin the system? Did you perform a system restore lately? Do all your drives show in "Computer"?

What you are speaking of seems like someone else is making changes you are not aware of. User created desktop icons would not be removed if a program was uninstalled or removed by a system restore. They would not link up to their .exe files though. Same if the drive is not listed.

Right click any icon in question and select properties. It will tell you the path that the icon is leading you too. Then, check that path. Make sure that the file it is supposed to execute is actually there.

If it is, you ran into a bug I have not sene since the early days of XP. Google '.ico not working' for a reg fix.

I've got a problem that is showing up in 2 ways.

1. I'll install software such as Windows Virtual PC and the folder will show up in the programs menu, but the folder will be empty. How does the software get installed but the program icon not added to the software folder? Screenshot is help2.jpg. Notice the Windows Virtual PC folder is empty.

2. I'll install software such as the Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express and an icon to start the program is in the folder, but nothing happens when it's clicked. Screenshot is help1.jpg.

What is going on? What do I do to get software installed with icons in the folders? I go into windows explorer and cannot find the programs.

Answer:Installed programs won't show in programs menu

Hi kokopoko,

at least in the case of Virtual PC I can tell you with some certainty that a reboot will complete the installation and populate the empty folder with shortcuts.

You might notice the little yellow shield in your "Shut down" button. That's Windows' way of telling you that an installation isn't yet complete and requires a restart.

As for Visual Studio, I'm not sure but I notice you have VS 2008 installed. The 2010 Express version might conflict with it, but I don't really know as I'm not familiar with Visual Studio.

But first things first: reboot.

Hi everyone.  When trying to figure out how to maximize protection on my computer, I found a post on ComputerHope (see the link and post below) in one of the introductory pages about security (posted by an expert or similar title).  I?m relatively new at this and do not mean to second-guess, but I have read dozens of times in the help sections of antivirus programs and other places that you should definitely not have more than one antivirus program installed on your computer at any given time.  The reason, they say, is that the programs will interfere with one another, decreasing their functionality. I do realize that antivirus programs are different than antispyware programs (as the post below is specific to antispyware). That said, and, again, I may be mistaken, but I have also thought (from reading instructions on antispyware programs, forums such as these, tech support folks, etc.) that the same is true for antispyware programs (and firewalls for that matter)?that you should never have more than one present on your computer at the same time--even if disabled--for the same reason as with antivirus software.  (By the way, I am also aware that you do need an antivirus program and an antispyware program and a firewall installed and operable at the same time; I?m talking about >1 of each particular type).  I would love to have 2 or more antivirus (like AVG and Avast) as well as 2 antispyware (AdAware and Spybot) programs on my computer for extra sec... Read more

Answer:Is it ok to have 2+ antivirus programs and/or 2+ antispyware programs installed?

I believe you have misunderstood that quote just a little.  In that section of the page, he is referring to anti-spyware programs only.  It's okay to have a couple of anti-spyware programs...but like you assumed, you should only have one anti-virus.  If you would like to have an additional anti-virus, however, you should look up ClamWin.  It's a great program, but it doesn't have live protection (you have to specifically instruct it to scan), so it won't get in the way of your primary scanner.  You should, of course, never scan with any two programs at the same time.

So, my old hard drive on my M91p Tower was failing, and I was unable to boot into Windows 7 Professional. I replaced the hard drive, reinstalled Windows 7 Professional. It authenticates, all was good, I was happy. Then I left it installing software overnight. I woke up, it was 'asleep'. Wouldn't wake. Had to turn it off, and then when I restarted, I got the intel black screen 'OS Not Found' screen. Finally, I managed to insert the installation disc, shut down without installing by declining to reinstall it, and when I booted back up it started normally. My question is: What's going on? How do I fix this?  I didn't have Lenovo media to reinstall from, and used a Windows 7 ISO disk install. How do I fix this?  My last week have been a gauntlet of trying to fix errors. I really want to put to rest the issue so I can go on with my work regularly. What can I do?

Answer:HDD died. installed a new one, installed OS. Now it give black screen "Operating System Not Found

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it.  You left it reinstalling software..  It is possible that some installation failed and left the machine in a state where it needed to be completely powered off.  It is possible it is a hardware error in the M91p.  As I said, it is hard to diagnose without seeing it.

hi peoples

i have installed my media centre for the 3rd time in a month. Due to various issues. (1 being sleep) Now i have installed the same drivers as the first build for HDMI audio and video, which i had perfect dvd playback and tv on, however i am faced with errors about video drivers not properly installed.

Last time it was the HDMI driver which i have installed and reinstalled 3 times. It seems every time i follow the exact same process at rebuilding vista 64 i get a different result.

Is there a way you can reset media centre so it checks the drivers all over again. I am interested in resetting audio and video if possible

XPS13 with Windows 10.  See screen shot below.  Dell Support Assist program says the two driver updates are recommended.  clicking "install" it shows progress to install, then says installed, but on refresh or re-entry to the program it still shows them as needing to be installed.  No errors generated.  Other driver updates done the same way without issue.  Suggestions?

Answer:Dell SupportAssist - says driver updates are installed but still showing need to be installed after refresh?

Don't use Dell Support assist with windows 10. Windows 10 will install generic drivers if Dell doesn't have win 10 drivers. You should mention the full model name of the computer. Does Dell support your model for upgrading to win 10? If so, get the win 10 drivers from Dell Drivers and Downloads.

Hello, and thanks in advance for your time!Earlier this afternoon, I noticed that the sound on my Thinkpad W510 was no longer working. I hadn't really done anything of note with my computer- just updated Adobe Reader to v9.2, that I can think of. When I checked the notification area, I saw this:However, when I right click and click "Playback Devices", I get the following: I immediately checked Device Manager, and found that everything appeared to be fine:I tried uninstalled and reinstalling the Conexant and NVIDIA drivers, as well as updating BIOS. Nothing seems to help, When try to use the mute/volume buttons on the keyboard, the speaker mute button lights up when pressed, but the microphone mute and volume +/- buttons don't appear to do anything. I've also tried plugging in headphones, and that does not make any difference. When I boot from an Ubuntu CD, however, sound works fine, so I don't think that it's a hardware issue.Anything that you folks could do to point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. "The Visual C++ project ... is targeting ".NETFramework,Version=v4.0", which is not installed on this machine. You must download this framework to open and build this project"

and it takes me on the web to the Framework Download site.

Indeed, I don't have 4.0, I have 4.5 which is the latest.  When I get to the Download site and download and execute the file, it says, "newer version of this framework is already installed".

And so on over and over.

What to do so I don't have to spend time answering the same dialog over and over again.

well i feel like a huge idiot because i kinda saw it coming, but i downloaded windows 7 proffesional from my university (100% legally) and was required to do a clean install as the version of vista i have on my hp laptop will not allow an upgrade. anyways, i backed up all my files, ran the iso file of the windows 7 on a virtual hardrive (Daemon Tools Lite) and had it installed correctly.

My problem begins here.

None of my program are installed, and prior to my father fixing my internet problem, i couldnt even access that without the blue screen of death. even the program for my fingerprint scanner isnt installed.

what i would like to know is how can i reinstall these programs :S. because for several of the programs i dont even have an installer on them, like my digital persona. am i stuck reverting back to vista? or will i have to get all new programs?

Answer:Programs not installed :S

If you want your programs to carry over from Vista, you have to do the in-place Upgrade. What was the problem with doing this? Did you run the Upgrade Advisor to check for possible problems before trying in-place Upgrade?

Have you checked the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer to see if some of the programs you need are there for Download?

If not, did you make the Recovery Disks for restoring your Vista OS to factory condition? Try running Recovery using the key given on first bootup screen for recovery, or the key combination in your manual to trigger Recovery. This is often disabled by Win7 installation, however if you still have the Recovery partition we might be able to help you find an ISO file in it to mount to restore Vista.

Welcome,

Usually the preinstalled programs are not as good as some that you can find online. You may want to list the ones that you are concerend about, though. Some are probably trial software that you pay for later.

Make a system restore point first. Uninstall one at a time and make sure there are no problems. Then unistall the next.

I find that this "New Programs Installed" message is very disturbing indeed, specially when there are no new programs that I have downloaded or installed!
My usual first instinct is to try to find out exactly which new programs, but I cannot find a way to do this.
How is it possible for new program(s) to be installed on my computer if I have not done this myself?
I was under the impression that any unauthorised (by me) programs could never be installed without Administrator privileges?

Hey all. I need all your genius minds and help here.

Bought a new Dell PC running Win10 with 128GB SSD + 1 TB HDD. After deleting the bloatware (which was surprisingly minimal), I have about 60GB of free space. Tried installing a few basic programs but they all kept installing on C:\ drive. Even the ones that allowed me to "choose installation folder" on my 2nd drive took up some residual space on C:\ via User cache, App settings, etc.

After doing my research, I realize I have only a few ways to solve this problem:

1) Continue doing what I am doing now, which is doing my best to install as few as possible programs on C:\ and reserve HDD for media/data/games/other programs that let you store their content on that drive. Answer:New PC w/ SSD+HDD, possible to have programs installed only on HDD?

Hello Kabigon and Welcome to TenForums

You will find a lot of the information you need in the Tutorials. It is possible to move all the apps from C: (SSD) to D: (HDD) and change to this new location for all future installations of Apps. To get you started here is the first tutorial:

Move Apps to another Drive in Windows 10

At the end of the tutorial section you will see links to other related tutorials.

You will also need to change the location for where all your documents, pictures, downloads etc are stored:

Change Storage Save Locations in Windows 10

To keep space free make sure you turn on Storage sense:
Turn On or Off Automatically Free Up Space in Windows 10

Hope this helps!

New to yr forum.
Fuji UH572 nice machine but,
tried to installed my software from CD, all prohrams were installed on C: the SSD which obviously could not take more after a while
My D: 500 gig came completely blank, unless I manually load it..
---
How can I use D: and force it to be regarded as my main storage device for apps, downloads etc.. ?

Answer:SSD 32 gig & HDD 500 gg. Programs to be installed

Since 32GB is somewhat limited of space and installation of Windows 8 alone will take about ~20GB. That leaves you with 12GB to play with. However, I think it could be done.

Depending on how much RAM you have in your system, Windows will allocate 1.5x~2x of HD space for Pagefile.sys so you want to relocate the pagefile.sys to your D: Drive.
Control Panel->System->Advanced System Settings->Performance Settings->Advanced->ChangeTurn off hibernation since you cannot relocate the Hiberfil.sys from C: Drive.Install your applications as usual ie. everything will be put in either C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (X86)Let us make an example for clarity, say you want to install Adobe Reader. After installation, you'll have a folder called adobe under C:\Program Files (X86) if running 64 bit or C:\Program Files if running under 32 bit.Create a folder in D Drive and name it as D:\MyApps (or whatever you want to call it)Now move adobe folder to D:\MyAppsOpen the elevated command prompt and type:
mklink /J "C:\program Files (X86)\adobe" "D:\MyApps\adobe" -> add quotes if string contains spaces
This provides the ability to keep a single copy of files under D:\MyApps\adobe yet have them appeared in C:\program Files (X86)\adobe folder but does not occupy any storage space except a few bytes for the link.Repeat step 7 for additional applications.

You can do this for download folder or anything you want to redirect to D drive.

Ok this is a question I get when working on computers and the only recourse is an Operating System reinstall or in the case where I am advising someone on a heavy upgrade/new purchase. Me personally I don't really care why, I just need something simple to tell people when they ask me besides saying "Well you can't!"

Why is it that when you reinstall Windows 7 or move from Windows XP (98,95 etc.) to Windows 7 (Vista, ya lets not go there) there is no way to keep your programs installed?

Answer:Why can't I keep my installed programs

Another option is to go straight to upgrading the SSD to a larger one, but I I find this impractical since my PC is basically new!

2) Use applications that act as Junction or Symbolic Link creators to divert installation and/or cache folders/files to my 2nd HD. This is actually problematic for me due to the sheer amount of programs I eventually would like to install but simply can't "Create a one-touch link of all Program Files" to the new HD. Thanks for taking the time to read this thread.

I recently purchased a new HP desktop and it came with a number of HP installed programs.

Can I remove some, if not all, unnecessary programs?

Here is a list of HP software:

HPSSupply
Enhanced Multimedia Keyboard Solution
HP Customer Experience Enhancements
HP Easy Setup - Core
HP Easy Setup - Frontend
HP Total Care Advisor
HP Update
HP Driver Diagnostics
HP Customer Participation Program 8.0
HP Imaging Device Functions 8.0
HP OCR Software 8.0
HP Photosmart. All-in-One Driver Software 8.0.A
HP Photosmart Essential
HP Solution Center 8.0

I know there are some I need, like, the printer software and driver.

Of these, which could I uninstall?

Answer:HP installed programs. Are they necessary?

Mod Edit:  Split from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/61209/new-programs-added-message/ - Hamluis.

I was under the impression that any unauthorised (by me) programs could never be installed without Administrator privileges?
ps. Am I notified by email if any replies to this are posted? (This is my very first Forum post.)

What a mess I'm in.PC was fine. I had AVG & ZoneAlarm running for protection while on dialup. Then I had blueyonder broadband put in. It seemed Zonealarm was causing a problem during the bb install, so the engineer advised me to uninstall it and the re-install it so it reconfigured it'self to the new setup. Since then, ZoneAlarm won't run correctly. The true vector keeps shutting down, and now the program open at startup, but shuts it'self down soon after. I then had problems with AVG, so tried re-installing that, now same problem with that. Now ANY program I try to install from CD or zip file either won't install (install prog shuts down during install) or if it does, shuts down soon after running. I have managed to install SP1 from Microsoft website plus all the other updates it recomended, still no joy. Now I have a PC with no protection and can't add any more programs.Help please, Garry.

Question: Installed Programs

Hey,
I was just wondering if anyone knew how to remove an entry in the add/remove programs list if the programs data directory is no longer available. My second hard drive had to be replaced which had some installed programs and games on it. When i try to reinstall these games they need the data directory because they still detect the program as being installed. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Installed Programs

While your program directories were on the drive replaced all registry entries are still found on the OS drive. That includes installlation logs and folders under your user name in the DocumentsandSettings folder. For Vista that would under the users main directory there.

The registry keys are still there trying to run the games/programs installed to the old secondary drive and need to be removed since the uninstall option probably won't work. Manual edits of the registry have to be done with caution. That's one main drawback when installing programs to other drives.

Hey Everyone,

Hope you're all well, I haven't been around for a while, very busy at school!

I was cleaning out my installed programs today, because it had breached 190 programs, (is that a lot compared to you guys?), and so I started getting rid of crap I never use...!

I then discovered at least 50, 'security updates for windows xp' 'programs' that I can uninstall...!?

Now, are these the actual updates? or just the files? because they are wasting space etc, and I'm wondering whether you can delete them? or if I do that will I 'un-upgrade' my programs?

Thanks a lot for any help you can offer, and sorry if it is a tad confusing!

Thanks again,

Charlie -

Answer:Installed Programs! :-o

they are updates, but they put them in the add remove programs in case one causes a problem. That way you can take them off if something goes wrong.

I just upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP Professional successfully, yet once my new desktop loaded, no applications would run. Double clicking on icons or .exe files accomplished nothing. The only way I could open programs was by opening up a file from the program, such as a .pdf to open adobe acrobat, .doc for Word, or .mp3 for WinAmp. I may have forgotten to remove a program before upgrading...but I really do not know if I can solve this problem without erasing my entire hard drive!
Please help!
Update: I fooled around with some settings and I think the problem lies in administrator privilege. I got one program to run though when I double click, I first have to click ok to a dialog box asking about user privelege on the top and a a place with administrator sign in on the bottom.

Answer:Just installed XP, but no programs run!

Strange! Can you create shortcuts for these programs and open them through their shortcuts?

I want to install and run some programs from a device on a USB port, an HDD or flash drive.

How can I find out which programs will do this ? I know that many of the 'platforms' (e.g., PortableApps; there others I understand) available to do this have a 'download' list of programs which are designed to enable you to download and install the program. But what if the program is not on the platform's download list (e.g., Double Driver install file, DriverBackup! )? Does it imply that it is not possible to run that program from a place other than the Programs/My Programs directory(folder) [e.g., MS Office, photoshop] ?

Can you run .exe files (e.g., coretemp, DriverMax) from anywhere (if they aren't a further download and install wizard !?

So like the title says I am having problems with my m6600 laptop telling me there is no ram installed even when there is. I even have the compatible ram purchased new from dell in it with no post. I have replaced the motherboard as well and I get the same issue. Dell's useless customer service chat has wasted about 15 hrs of my time without answering a single question. I just get transferred until they tell me they can't help because of the out of service warranty yet dell's stupid site tells me I am eligible for chat after putting my service tag in. Dell has proven to be the worst customer service ever just like everyone on the internet says. Who gives a *** if my warranty is out I just need my queswtion answered so I can fix this piece of *** myself. I don't want to talk to some indian *** on the phone who can't even understand me well enough to help, " Hello this is Hamid, I am very sorry for your frustrations" Like come on dell you cheap fucks. You sell an inferior product that usually always breaks after the warranty goes out then hire non english speaking d bags to not help your loyal customers? I have been buying alienware for years and always have to fix the turds myself since dell is too incompetent to build things that dont break nor do they fix the issues when items are under warranty. This question was hard to google since it is a little complex to to type out the question but I don't think may be too difficult to answer.

The question is this:

Will performance speed be different

if I have a setup of WinXP(Home or Pro) in a HDD with no software installed in it and a separate HDD with all apps/software installed on a separate HDD

OR

if I have a setup of WinXP(Home or Pro) in a HDD with all the apps/software installed on that HDD? (The extra HDD would be separate for music, pics, docs, etc)
Thanks in advance for reading this question.

It's running very slow even when I try and bring up the internet or just a program in my computer. I get that spinning wheel and sometimes it takes so long my computer just goes to sleep. I'm really about to just uninstall the whole thing. HELP ME PLEASE!

Answer:I installed Windows 10 and every since I installed it my computer has been running very slow. How can I speed it up?

If you did the upgrade through Windows Update, download the media creation tool and create installation media for another PC. (CD or USB stick) Be sure its the same version that you download for hat you are running. For example, Windows 10 Home. Reinstall WIndows 10 with the media you made, when prompted (twice it will ask you) for a Product Key, just skip it and donot enter anything. Once its reinstalled it will self activate from the hardware/digital ID from your upgrade.

Hi there. My son did a foolish thing...he let his friend at university install Windows Vista Ultimate on his laptop, Inspiron 6000 that was factory installed with Windows XP. The Vista now needs a product code entered, so it no longer runs.

I have been trying for 3 days to do a complete re-format and recovery of his laptop back to Dell factory settings with the Windows XP. I cannot get anything to work. Any directions that I have found it says you need the Vista DVD so you can recover the "windows.old" files.

Any suggestions on what I can do to reformat and recover this computer? Thanks.

Answer:Recover laptop to factory installed Windows XP from Vista installed without DVD

In your start menu, click computer, double click c drive, look for a folder that says backup or restore to xp. A friend of mine did the same thing and this option was there, not sure if it will be on yours but look and see. ed

Has anyone else had a similar problem  My only option appears to be downloading all the drivers from the lenovo site individually and then installing drivers for each. But, I am surprised that Windows did not find the drivers for each of these components, especially the wireless adapter

Answer:Installed Windows7 Ultimate on thinkpad w530 but many of the drivers did not get installed

Hi suhaim, welcome to the forums,

did your W530 come with a version of Windows 7 pre-installed and did you create the recovery discs?

The easiest way to install Ultimate would have been to run an "Any Time Upgrade" of the pre-installed Windows 7 system using your Ultimate license number, if you created recovery discs this is still possible after recovering the system. (Assuming bit versions sre the same).

Another method of obtaing all drivers after a clean install would be to install ThinkVantage SystemUpdate this should get and install the drivers for you.

So just last night i flashed my bios from f7 to f11 (mobo in sig) Just turned on my computer after that and windows says it installed new hardware and needs to be reactivated. Weird but whatever. So i try to activate it and it says this product key is already in use. I'm using the same key i had before I flashed the bios, WTF? It gives me the option to buy a new key or type in a key i already have, so it has my key saved in computer>properties and yeah i just pushed activate right under that key and it says it's already in use. oh and I didn't install any new hardware just flashed bios. Help me please

Call the 800 number it provided - explain - they will help you out.
