Preferred Solution: windows.error.close.reopen.***!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: windows.error.close.reopen.***!

I'm using safe mode w networking at the moment to get onto the net right now, but in normal mode, I open IE and whilst it will initially load my home page with no problem, after a few seconds it will "Recover" or try to recover the tab, and will do this repeatedly until IE freezes. I've run MBAM and it hasn't helped, and I've tried various troubleshooting processes. The internet connection appears to be OK (I'm using wireless, not LAN). Can anyone help with this? It was working fine up until about 2pm this afternoon when I left it in standby for a few hours, but when I picked it up about half 6, I suddenly found IE wasn't working.I'm running IE8, and I'm using an XP Home Edition OS. Can someone help? Thankyou!

Hello,
I am a network admin deploying Windows Server 2008r2 with Internet Explorer 9 as terminal servers, I am having trouble with an ActiveX element in one of our internal pages. The page requests the CAB file with three files being an INF, OCX &
a DLL.
Running the page as an Administrator. Opening the page for the first time, IE hangs as it gets the CAB file and then will present UAC to allow it to install the ActiveX as an Add On for IE. Each time you come to the page after it will work fine.
Running the page as a user, Every time the user access the page after logging on IE hangs and then will put a red cross in the ActiveX section of the page. If you then close and reopen IE it will then allow the ActiveX element of the page to work fine. The
issue is that the user would have to do this each time they logged on.

Why does the page not work first time the users access the page?
Regards,
Mark

You could try IE Reset, "IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset button". You lose your add-ons but they soon come back with usage. Your favorites etc are retained. Is this only on one webpage? If so give us the link in case that tells us something. If you have an alternative browser does it happen on there too?I suppose malware is a vague possibility but it doesn't obviously fit the symptoms.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I am uusing Internet Explorer 11 with Windows 7 Ultimate and have been getting the error message: "A problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab." on a variety of websites. At the suggestion of some troubleshooting sites I have uninstalled Silverlight and reinstalled it --- this seems to make a temporary fix, but in a couple of days the problem returns. I have done the same with JAVA with no change.
The problem seems to reside in Internet Explorer, since it does not occur with I use Firefox. Anyway, the error slows down my computer when using the web.

I would uninstall McAfee and run the McAfee Removal Tool. You can reinstall it, if desired, after testing.

If the above does not fix it try an IE reset.

Hey everyone,

I'm a college kid who has been having major issues with my laptop, I'm desperate for some help.

The problems:
My Wifi cuts out at random, and after that my laptop won't reconnect- or connect to any wifi- until I either close the lid, wait for the green light to go off, then reopen, or I restart. This always temporarily fixes the problem. (This actually happened when I first tried to submit this post, so I have to retype the whole thing . This happens within anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours from when I reconnect to wifi, and it seems to be somewhat correlated to me opening new tabs (or submitting a new post ). I don't use my laptop for anything other than casual browsing and school work, so I don't have any weird programs that might cause this. No single event started this, but it's been happening for months. I'd really appreciate any help.

I have a Gateway Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack One. It is a 64 bit operating system. 1.7GHZ Processor. 8.00 GB RAM. I have been using Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 on a Gateway Computer with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 and 64 bit.
Recently when I loaded the program it would turn on then shut down and I get this message "A Problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab." I have no control over the page, it keeps opening and closing. The only to stop it s to go to Task Manager and end the program several times.
Any Suggestions on a fix for this problem. It does not matter which page it tries to open. I can only change pages by going the Change Home Page inthe control Panel when IE 11 is not running.
Thanks
George

Answer:A Problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab

Open Internet Explorer in Safe Mode without Addons. Browse some sites. If you find that you do not now face any problems, it means that one of your IE add-ons is creating a problem.
Use the IE Addon manager to disable the add-ons one after the other and try to find the offender. To manage browser add-ons in Internet Explorer, open IE and press Alt+X to open Tools. Here you will see Manage add-ons. Click on it Once you have identified it disable ot remove the addon. Details - Manage Browser add ons..
Run AdwCleaner to see if you have any malicious add-ons installed.
If nothing workw, you may need to Reset Internet Explorer settings to default.

I did a Windows 7 Repair Install on my HP (G62) laptop, 64 BIT, and installed an HP Deskjet F4180 printer, it went on virtual USB001. Recently, when printing from various PDF files, I cannot print multiple pages of a document. It prints a single random page of the document, then gives printer error, and moves the document into queue, where I have to cancel the job. It seems to work OK in other application documents however. And it even seemed to work for an older small PDF file.

Im running the laptop on wireless, with router configured to automatic DHCP, shows 2 devices, the laptop and the wired Desktop, and seems to be running fine. The network is set to Public.

I uninstalled all HP programs, drivers, and reinstalled the latest full printer driver & software for 64 BIT from HP website.

I stopped & restarted the print spooler service.

I tried different USB ports, cables, connection steps.

I tried HP scan utilities for fixing, and tried Windows Troubleshoot (which temporarily fixes issue for a single print job)

Thru printers & devices all printer & USB drivers show up, are updated, & working.

In Printer Properties, I tried printing directly to printer setting, but then NOTHING prints at all.

As far as I remember the printer worked properly on my desktop, Windows 7, 32 BIT version.

I also reinstalled ADOBE PDF, in case its the applications fault

I recently have been getting the Error message Windows has encountered a critical error and will close in one minute.
I do not have the Brazilian financial Active X control that became corrupted, or if I do, I cannot find it. I have Vista 32-bit on an Acer Aspire laptop. This message comes up after I login and I can either access the Internet via Safe mode w/Networking, or do a System Restore, at which time the laptop works for about two or three times and then the error message comes back.
Do I have a bug? Please help!!!!

Answer:Error Message 0x80070005 critical error - windows will close in one minute

I followed the preparation guide and when I tried to run dds.scr, the black screen came up really fast and then disappeared and nothing ever came up. When I tried to run RootRepeal.exe, I was able to tell it to scan, but then I never received a report. When I tried to run it again, it said that I didn't have permission, and when I tried to delete it, it said the same thing! I am the administrator...I have Vista 32bit and I am getting the error code 0x80070005 windows has encountered a critical error and will now close. I run system restore to get it to stop, but that only works a few times, and then I get the error message again.
What do I do now??

Given the serious nature of some questions here, mine seems silly. Yesterday I received and opened up new laptop with Windows 8. New experience for me. Without realizing what it was, I set up and then closed my
Windows account. I realize now I need to keep it open. Can you tell me how to reopen the account?
Thanks, Markfm3213

Answer:Reopen Windows account

Hello Mark, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you meant that you "closed" your Microsoft account as in to deactivate it like in the tutorial below, then no worries. You can reactivate your Microsoft account by signing in it again online at Microsoft within 365 days of closing it.

Microsoft Account - Close

Hope this helps,

In a situation where I have a grouped set of windows (Chrome, Skype, EtC.) and have to minimize any of them, it's a hassle to open them again. I can get windows to open the previews by clicking on the group, but anything within the previews won't work. Right click closes previews. Left click closes previews.
Mind you, I can still get to them. Alt+Tab works, as does Super+Tab. It's just annoying to always have to go that way, especially as I'm using two monitors and have my taskbar on the one that makes it less obtrusive.
I can temporarily fix the problem by restarting, but it takes forever, and I just simple don't like having to restart. I will every once in a while, but again, it doesn't fix the problem. It just delays it.

The only potential cause I can figure out is when I do have to close chrome, I tend to do it by ending the task. This ensures I can recover my tabs that I had open. I don't know if this is the cause, but it's the only thing that seems potentially related, simply due to it being done in relative close proximity to the problem showing up.

I've tried restarting the desktop management system (DWM), changing themes, disabling and reenabling grouping. Nothing is fixing it.

Again, I can get by without it... it's just a major annoyance, and a block to productivity.

Also, if it's a single window, clicking on the task bar icon opens the windows. Once it's a group, then I'm screwed.

Hello. I built a computer for my brother a week ago. It was working fine on monday. But now, after windows boots up, whenever you basically try to do anything, I will get the "Windows has encountered a problem with xxxx and must close", I mean EVERYTHING. Internet Explorer, Explorer, when I try to load up an anti-virus program through a usb thumb drive, it keeps saying said file is corrupt and cannot proceed (even tho it works on my computer, just not my brothers). I'm not sure what happened.

We were playing L4D the other night, and he says after he returned from dinner, his screen was frozen. He ctrl/alt/del, and the computer restarted itself, several times on its own. He now does not have any internet connectivity, and as I've said, can't do anything basically without getting that Windows error. I tried defaulting the bios options incase he might have been snooping around, but to no luck.

Another note I should add is when I first built it, I mistakingly installed Windows XP before installing the MOBO software. He took it into our local Radioshack and the guy installed the MOBO software for him. Does this need to be installed before windows is installed? Please let me know what I should do, and if I should provide any more information. Thank you.

Answer:Windows has encountered an error and must close..

Hello everyone

I need some help and advice to a problem that I'm having that I can't seem to find a fix or solution to and hope that you can help me. I'm sorry but my knowledge on computers is pretty limited but I will try to give as much info as I can.
I am running xp with service pack 2. When I am playing a game and press the windows key to do other things the computer says windows explorer needs to close.
This is what was in the error report.
App Name: explorer.exe
Mod Version: 6.0.2900.3156
App Version: 6.0.2900.3156
Offset: 00011888
Mod Name: explorer.exe.

I have googled for windows explorer errors and been to Microsoft and installed some fixes that I thought were close enough to my problem but no luck.
Can anyone help me work out what is happening here.
There is one thing that I think I have worked out. I have recently installed HP Photosmart c4200 Since then I had these problems which is mentioned at Microsoft. I have installed the latest updates from HP as well.
I'm very sorry that this is long winded but I wanted to make sure I haven't left anything out. If there is anymore information needed I'll really try and give it to you. Thanks for any help that you may be able to give.

Answer:Windows live mail wont reopen a second tine

*Taken from click here It generally occurs when the send option "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is *un-checked*, but it does not usually manifest until a new compose window, or a saved draft has been opened. This option is available only when you are signed in, but if it is un-checked it still causes the shutdown bug even when not signed in. So make sure the option "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is *checked* at: Tools->Options->Send [tab] (available only when signed into Windows Live through WLMail). However, if you do find that "Upload Larger Images to the Web When Sending a Photo E-mail" is actually checked (which it is by default), then just uncheck it and click "Apply", then check it again and click "Apply" again. Some have had to do that to fix their WLMail shut down bug that was occurring despite that option having never been unchecked.

Hi .If you have XP's System Restore enabled, have you tried going back to an earier restore point?Have you tried running chkdsk /r on the system? You can run that fron the New Task function, using Contro-Alt-Delete. Be sure that there is a space between the k and / or the command will not be interpreted properly.Additional info: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822797For general practice...anytime something like this happens on a system, I would always suggest doing a couple of thorough malware checks. I tend to favor Spybot S&D and SUPERAntiSpyware but those are just two reliable programs that can assist in maintaining a good defense posture on a system.Louis

OKie, problem is this...

When you get a little error pop up window, for example when you try to delete a file thats in use, I get the error default windows sound, but the flaming window closes before I get a chance to read what the error is!

Most annoying! I thought that maybe it was a setting I had accidently set in Tweak XP, like the stopping Windows Error Reporting option...

Any ideas how I can fix this? So I can at least SEE what the darn problem is!

I would have quized mad-martin on this, seeing as he sits next to me, and lets face it, its a husbands job to fix these little nuances, but as he has inconsideratley sodded off out, I need to ask you fine people!

Ok enough babble...HELP!

Greetings,Well I'll dive straight in. I hope some of you can help me!For a few days, this message has been coming up on my screen:I have noticed that the problem seems to occur when I open a video file from a folder.More recently, the problem has begun to occur even when I simply open a folder containing video files in it.When I click 'close', everything on the screen disappears and then re-appears.Furthermore, when I open a video file with windows media player, the following comes up:When I click 'close', Windows Media player obviously closes. So it would seem that the problem is somehow related to videos on my computer.I have been dealing with and downloading certain videos and video software recently so it does make sense.I have uninstalled all the software that I installed just before the problem started to occur.I have successfully scanned and deleted lots of spyware. However, for some reason my anti-virus scan is not able to complete (I have had this problem for a while now). So I do not know whether this is caused by a virus or not.I'm quite stuck for solutions.Help would be appreciated! I apologise if I was not articulate enough. Don't hesitate to ask me for any clarification.Regards

About a week ago my computer showed signs of being infected with spyware or adware or something. Since then I've had a series of small problems leading up to what I hope isn't a BIG problem.

So, last week I was getting re-directed online to spam pages and stuff like that. I had some trouble getting rid of it, and following various sources of online advice I ran AVG, Malwarebytes and some other programs. Eventually I got rid of that problem, but then every time I'd boot up I'd get a message saying "Error loading: C:\WINDOWS/ipwuie.dll (...) the specified module could not be found." (I think that was the result of a conflict between AVG and Malwarebites. One of the programs asked if I wanted to delete some dll file and I said OK, and ever since I've had that pop-up message.) Trying to get to the source of THAT problem, I've run Free Windows Registry Repair, CCleaner and many other programs I don't even remember anymore...

Which leads us to the bigger problem. Somewhere in there, in addition to the dll error message, my computer started showing the message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" about 50% of the time, when I first boot up. I get the message, but then after I click it, it goes away and my computer seems to operate normally. My chief concern is that this minor inconvenience could be a sign of something more serious. (And I should make it very clear this is WINDOWS EXPLORER, not Internet... Read more

I am helping an 88 year old man get his desk-top computer,Win 7, working properly & Im not that great with computers myself! He tried to close down the computer but an error msg has come up "10 PROGRAMS STILL NEED TO CLOSE. To close the program that's preventing windows from logging off, click cancel then close the program. My PC Backup SetUp Wizard -This program is preventing windows from logging off." But when I click 'cancel' nothing happens. I cant close down any of the open programs. The 'Start' menu wont come up either. Tried closing programs using the bottom task bar but that doesn't work either. The screens not 'frozen' but I cant seem to get in or out of programs. Do you have any suggestions? He lives down the road so I don't have his computer in front of me, but I can go around there tomorrow & take my laptop with me so someone can maybe talk me thru' things, if need be.Kind Regards, Debbie Kahotea, Auckland NZ

Answer:Can not close down computer, stuck on a windows error msg.

"My PC Backup SetUp Wizard"Apparently he's been suckered into installing some sort of "fix my PC" software. My guess is the system is infected with spyware & malware. Run thru his programs list (Control Panel > Programs & Features) & uninstall all the garbage-ware. Then download, install & run CCleaner-Slim - both the cleaner & the registry scanner - remove everything they find. Also click Tools > Startup & disable all unnecessary programs from loading at startup.http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/bu...After doing all that, reboot into Safe Mode & then run a virus scan. message edited by riider

My computer keeps coming up with this error that looks like this.

Some times the error reads a bit different but it all does the same thing. I don't know what's wrong with it. I have had it for just under a year. It has done this at least 10 times. Every time I have to refresh the computer or take it back to default and I'm so sick of doing that. Is there a way to fix it. I am using a 64bit version of windows and have 8GB ram so it's not that. But it seems to be related to memory even though I have a lot of it there.

Please help. Thank you.

Also, sorry if this is in the wrong part of this site. I wasn't entirely sure where it belonged.

Answer:Close windows to prevent information loss error??

Hello Glyxz, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Here are a couple of things to check for this:

1) Is your hard drive low on free space? If so, then you will need to free up space for the page file.

2) Did you turn off the page file, or set the page file to be to low? Some programs require that you have a page file no matter how much RAM you have installed. It's recommended to leave the page file set to be managed by the system so that it will automatically be increased in size as needed.

Answer:Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, error

It's possible that one of those multimedia files are corrupt, mainly a video.

Does this happen in several different folders, or just one?

You need to find the culprit and delete it.

How many files are in that folder?

Hi,

My machine had a virus attack. I used the instructions for Anti-malaware bytes and tried to remove it. Now the machine shuts down as soon it is started. I get an error message saying, "windows has encountered a critical error and will close in one minute". That happens in all the different modes, safe, safe with networking, normal etc and happens with internet on or off.
I am not able to run any logs as recommended by you because I don't get enough time to run anything. The machine boots and just shuts down.

Please help. I have humongous amount of data, that I can't even access because of this issue.

Thanks

Windows 10 has a cache issue when saving/reopening files which I can repeat and would appreciate some advice/ideas

Note: I have come here after weeks of problems and series of tests. I have ruled out antivirus, drivers, hardware and a host of other issues raised my Microsoft and can repeat this problem with out fail.

I have had two identical computers (A and B) built for me by a reputable store. Both run Windows 10 with a genuine COA on each system. I use one system at home and one at work. I have a portable drive that contains my data that is shared/used by both systems. I have bought seven drives to date out of shear frustration thinking it was hardware - 2Tb, 3Tb, and 4Tb from Seagate, Toshiba and WD - they all do this:

Note: file type *.xyz is just an example and not a real file type and only to assist this discussion (I have tried many file types as well)

Computer A > Save a file at 4PM onto a portable drive (for example abc.xyz) - time stamp 4PMComputer B > at 6PM commence working on the file and save at 10PM (abc.xyz) - time stamp 10PMComputer A > at 8AM (next day) go to the portable drive to discover the file (abc.xyz) is time stamped back at 4PM?
Now if I try to the run the file Windows starts giving errors about the file being corrupt or inaccessible.

Computer B > if you take the portable drive back to Computer A the file is time stamped 10PM and opens and saves as per normal i.e. Computer A will no longer run the file, yet Computer B does from... Read more

My brother is having a problem with his computer and I am trying to help him fix it over the phone. He has windows xp professional xp sp3 installed and it had been working for the last year and a half. When he starts it up now it goes to a screen that windows has detected an error and will close to prevent damage to your computer. He has not installed any new software or hardware. I had him try unhooking everything cd drives, floppy drive and restart still same issue. He has his operating system disk xp pro sp3 not oem. I had him try inserting his xp disk and was going to have him do at the repair screen checkdisk /r or sfc /scannow, but the disk starts like it normally would but before it gets to the windows setup screen it goes to the message windows has detected an error and will close to prevent damage to your computer. So I realize from that I guess I couldn't do a repair install either as it never gets to the point I could do that. I had also on one of my previous trips to see him gave him a reatogo disk which also starts loading properly and then gives him the same error (I tried the reatogo disk while the hard drive was plugged in and also without the hard drive plugged in which works for me-- same error). He is not computer literate but takes instructions well. I am wondering can bad ram, power supply, processor overheating cause this issue. When your brother receives the error message is it stating any particular error code? (e.g. Stop 0x0000007E, or Stop 0x0000001E) or something similar. These stop error codes could be caused by a number of things. I see he's tried a chkdsk /r to no avail. See if the second part of the following link will help http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-xp-t...your-computer/. If this doesn't do it he may have to do a repair install. Just have him follow the last part in the link I've provided.

I'm not sure if I have a virus or just a corruption of something, but I get a constant looping of Windows beginning to open after I log in then shutting down and restarting back to the login page.  I was able to do F8 and get into the System Recovery Options.   I ran the Farbar Recovery Scan and have the FRST.txt log and the Search.txt logs, included.

I've been having memory shortage issues and really don't know in what state my backups are in (the backups ate up so much space I ended up deleting things I probably shouldn't have), so I'd really like to try to get into the system and do some data backups somehow.  I should have a running backup of my basic work files on my D drive via an online backup, but I don't have anything set to backup online on my C drive (mostly program files reside there, I keep most user data on my D).  Can I backup files somehow even if I can't run Windows?

Please advise on recommended steps for both data recovery (if possible) and virus removal.

Answer:HELP!! error message: windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

You've definitely got some nasty malware on your system there. Please click on and follow the directions in the 5 Steps link in my signature below to scan your system for malware and to post a Deckard's System Scanner log in the HijackThis forum section. Unfortunately we cannot advise about HijackThis logs in the XP section.

As far as the explorer error, if you have a Windows XP CD you can insert the cd and then go to Start > Run and type "cmd" w/o quotes. Then type in "sfc /scannow" without quotes to run the Windows File Checker. It will check the system files on your PC and if they have been altered they will be replaced with a copy from your XP cd.

Definitely follow the 5 steps link in my signature below though. You've got some nasties on your system.

Perfect Cure for " Windows Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close down "I faced the same problem and got the cure off a site's blog page.Go to Start/Run/and type          regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll      click OK or press enter.if the problem still continuesgo to start -> run and type        regsvr32 /u vsfilter.dll      click OK or press enter.Worked like a charm for me. If problem still persists,  open My Computer, right click in the window, select any view type apart from Thumbnails. Now click Tools select Folder Options and in View tab click on Apply to all folders .Generally setting view mode any other than thumbnail should sort out the problem.

Hi - When I right clicked in desktop, or tried to use the File tab in a Windows program received the error message:Windows Explorer encountered a problem..., and the Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger. A friend found the trouble shooting windows page and we downloaded ShelExView and disabled non windows shel extentions then added each back individually back and found " SimpleShlExt Class " is the one causing the problem. The type is Context menu, the description is SimpleExt Module Version 1,0,0,1 Product Name SimpleExt Module Company is blank.
It is currently disabled, We don't know what this is, if it is needed or if I have Malware. Can you advise? I don't want to shut down with it disabled if it is needed.

Answer:SimpleShlExt Class is it causing Right click on desktop windows error/close & DrWatso

Re: SimpleShlExt Class is it causing Right click on desktop windows error/close & DrW

I searched for SimpleShlExt and I get this
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\clsid\{5E2121EE-0300-11D4-8D3B-444553540000} SimpleShlExt Class
which appears to be drivers for ATI Catalyst

I don't know what to tell you to do. I wouldn't shut it down disabled - you could end up with a black screen.

I can't open Hyperlinks, for example in this forum.

My version of IE 6 is 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.061219-0316. When I try to open the hyperlinks I get the Error "IE has encountered a problem and must close" and the Error Tech shows Comct132.dll???

I have Googled and can't find out much. I did a search on my notebook and that .dll is not there.

I thought that I had fixed the problem by going to the CP>Add/Remove>Set Programs Access Defaults.
The setting there is Custom for all of the programs, Web Browser, email, media player, instant messaging, java virtual machine.

In all of them it says "use my current..."

So I changed Web Browser to Internet Explorer instead of "use my current web browser" but it won't stick and I am then back to not being able to open Hyperlinks.

Took the notebook to 2 independent tech's that I know and they checked the notebook for nasties and found nothing. I should say that there are no other peculiarities like Home page changes or being redirected to other sights, just this irritating inability to Open Hyperlinks.

I googled Comct132.dll and found virtually nothing, I don't know what this is??Being the Easter weekend here there are no techs available and I was trying to catch up with work and can't open critical hyperlinks.

I hope that someone has some ideas, thankyou for your time.

The error message "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" appears a few minutes after start-up.

I click "To see what data this error report contains, click here." and it shows this:

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName: ws2_32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0000664d

I have run Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware Professional and Trend Micro OfficeScan but i still get the problem whenever I restart my computer.

Although my windows seems to be working properly after I click "don't send report" (due to restore settings?), the error message annoys me every time i restart my computer.

What shall I do to repair the problem? Please let me know if you need my HJT log. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon!

Kaye

I've been getting the error "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" spasmodically ever since I got my computer, about 2 years ago. It might go a couple of weeks in between errors but recently it's become something like every day or two. Perhaps this coincides with me getting my computer on the net. The screen shows only the wallpaper for a moment then the system comes back on with a few things missing form the system tray, though this may be an effect rather then a cause.

The error did not go away when I reinstalled windows.

Anyway here's a list of the error signatures it gives:

error signature
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2600.0 ModName: ole32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.0 Offset: 000111cb

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2600.0 ModName: ntdll.dll

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2600.0 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.0 Offset: 00003207
I have:
Windows XP Prof
P3 1Ghz

I'm tempted to just leave this error, as I don't seem to loose anything when it occures. But is there a simple solution?

I'd appreciate it if anyone can help solve this problem.

When I left click or right click on an MP4 file, Windows Explorer encounters a problem and needs to close.
Explorer closes and restarts. If the MP4 was left clicked, Real Player will start and play the file. If the MP4 was right clicked, right click menu will open and error window will open immediately after.

The error report shows:
Error signature
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.5512 ModName: quicktime.qts
ModVer: 5.0.2.15 Offset: 002d12b5

This problem started today, after I tried to copy a folder containing MP4 files while viewing one of the MP4 files in the folder. Yeah, I know....I remain my own worst enemy.

Thanks

Jim

Hello,
I have an excel 2000 file (size: 12.5MB). The file is stored on a NT file server. The server is connected on a switch (A). The client PC that tried to access the file is on a BNC cable connection that connects to a 10Mbps hub and this hub connects to another 10Mbps hub and this hub goes to the switch (A). The problem happened when the user tried to update the Excel file. He opened it from the server. He made some modifications to the data and then he pressed the saved button. Excel 2000 begun saving (file.xls) and finally the following error message appeared on screen: "DOCUMENT SAVED SUCESSFULLY. CAN NOT REOPEN THE SAVED DOCUMENT DUE TO LOW MEMORY. PLEASE CLOSE THE DOCUMENT". If I press OK button then the document will be damaged and will not be opened again, so I tried to save it again. I pressed the save option but instead of saving it, I noticed that the SAVE AS dialog box appeared. I thought that something wrong is going on. I saved the Excel file on the SERVER using another filename (file2.xls). The saving process was successful. I closed Excel 2000 and I loaded again. I tried to open the Excel file (file.xls) but the opening failed with the following error message: "FILE file.xls is not in recognizable form ". After that I tried to open the file2.xls and I SUCCEEDED IN OPENING IT WITHOUT PROBLEMS.

Hello,

I clicked the X when it asked if it should load previous session and all my IE8 tabs I had open before the crash was lost.
When I open up IE they doesn't reopen. I've tried "reopen last session" from the Tools menu but with no luck.

Seems like they still are stored in AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Recovery\Active (.dat files) but how do I make IE to open them?

Answer:Reopen lost tabs in IE8

There was a change from IE7 to IE8. Now when you reopen IE, you have to reopen the tabs from your "Favorites" bar. Another good reason to switch to FF.

I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell XPS410. When I close Internet Explorer or Microsoft Outlook, I often (but not always) get a message "Internet Explorer (or Microsoft Outlook) has stopped working" and then the program will reopen by itself. As Outlook reopens, I get a message that it was not closed properly and it's checking for errors, and lately I'm also asked if I want to reopen in Safe Mode. Occasionally I'll get a message that IE has stopped working even when I don't close it myself, and all pages will close.

Not sure if this is a related problem or not, but occasionally I have emails that stay in the outbox even after sending (and stay open on the monitor after I hit "send"), but they also show up in the Sent box, so it's difficult to know if they actually were sent. I believe (but I'm not sure) that it's only happening when they have multiple photos attached, so they are large emails and I'm sending them on a 28.8k dialup modem, if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help!

I am using Windows 8 with IE10 and for some weird and wonderful reason, the "reopen last session" is greyed out. I saw on the Windows 7 forum that there was a download fix for that but didn't dare to take that on for Windows 8.
Any ideas as to a simple fix for this snag?

Answer:Reopen last session greyed out

Hello Gloosecap,

The Reopen Last Browsing Session option would only not be grayed out if there was an actual last session to reopen. If you cleared your browser history after closing IE10, then there will be nothing to reopen.

If that wasn't the case, then you could use OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to enable Reopen Last Browsing Session in IE10 to see if that may help.

Can anybody get me in contact with Acer? I want to reopen my support case because my laptop is starting to die again, even after they "fixed" it.

Because my warranty is supposedly a week out of date I am unable to get in contact with a single person from Acer to tell them to reopen [edited for privacy] because their support clearly did not solve the problem. I am experiencing the exact same problem that led to my needing to send in my laptop. It is worsening and probably going to lead to a huge nasty crash again.

And I have reason to believe that the cause is bad hardware that my Acer Aspire Nitro was shipped with, because THIS time, when I saw the BSODs, I looked them up. I've been receiving a "Kernel Data Inpage Error" which apparently means that my memory or my hard drive is faulty. (And yes, I did the recommended things on that page. Nothing has helped or identified a problem. At all.)

This issue SHOULD be covered under warranty, not only because it is an issue that started during the year of warranty, but ALSO because Acer claimed to have fixed the issue but DID NOT, and ALSO because their warranty clearly states "Acer warrants that its Products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the Limited Warranty Period" and my computer CLEARLY CAME WITH FAULTY HARDWARE.

Answer:I need to reopen an issue with acer

Hi lsilich04,

We have to have some date for the warranty to end, but we certainly aren't interested in leaving you out in the cold less than a week out. I was able to locate your information and the US service team updated the warranty through the end of the month. This will allow you to contact and setup services as needed.

In reading your post, I would have to disagree that a kernel error means a hardware error. The Kernel is part of the core of the Windows operating system and is completely software, when that crashes, it would result in the bluescreens and lockups. When your unit was in originally, I show that memory tests and hard drive tests were done, and a reload of the operating system corrected the issue. Now, after 3 months, you're starting to experience blue screens again, and I would suspect that some corruption has occured in the operating system. With all of this said, I would suggest attempting a recovery first, see how the system behaves. If there was a hardware error, it would also fail during the recovery process.

I just wrote a long post and it disappeared while trying to run that spell check on it. Very annoying.

Here, again, is my problem:

When I close IE 8 or 9 with several tabs open, and later reopen it, the option to reopen or restore the last browsing session is ALWAYS grayed out in both the menu under Tools and on the New Tab pages.

I had a nasty rootkit infection of volsnap.sys that was mostly affecting IE, which was detected and removed by ComboFix with help from MajorGeeks, just a week or two ago.

Since it was always changing the mischief it did, mostly regarding IE, I suspect that "part of it" is still on my machine.

A MS support forum led me through several steps to try to fix this, including uninstalling and reinstalling IE 9. Then they gave up and said I had to reformat my HD and reinstall my OS. I suspect that wouldn't be enough...

I really depend on this function, and have used IE for many, many years, and don't want to switch browsers. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,
Barb

Reformatting and reinstalling your OS most definitely will get rid of any nasties present on your system. If you do a clean install, as suggested, I'll be your browser's behavior returns to normal.

Hello,

I am in need of some assistance with my IE 10 browser, but the problem only happens while using the default MSN homepage.

After closing the web browser a number of times while on MSN, multiple browsers will suddenly reopen. I have noticed that when the browsers reopen, the url is a little different from the original. Here is an example of what some of the urls might look like below.

MSN.com

But when I change my default homepage to another search engine, such as google, yahoo, or bing, this problem does not occur. It only happens on the msn website.

Just today, I have discovered what is causing the browser to do this and it is the TrueSuiteService application that is part of the HP Simplepass program that is already pre-installed on my laptop. When disabled, the problem no longer occurs. However; when it is enabled, the problem will reoccur after a certain amount of times opening and closing the browser.

Here is a screenshot of the application disabled below.

But, here are two screenshots of all the applications that are enable on startup.

Either way, I am unsure of which direction I should take to solve this matter completely. Please help me.

Thank you for your assistance.

Multiple IE 10 Browsers Reopen After Closing Default Homepage (MSN - Microsoft Community

Quote from the other thread,
I followed the instructions within the clean boot about background applications and it worked. I discovered that the background TrueSuiteService application from HP in the services tab was what was causing the problem. After disabling it, I no longer had multiple browsers opening up. However, it still boggles my mind that how come it would be this application causing this issue? Also I notice that all the HP products are labeled "Hewlett-Packard Company" in the manufacturer status however; the disabled application is only labeled "HP" as the manufacturer? Could this possibly be a hidden virus on my computer? If so, how do I remove it? end of Quote

I would think it's the OS and probably not your PC. I've been having more problems and glitches than ever after the recent updates, especially with Edge. I totally reset my PC, reinstalled everything manually and all was good for about 10 days but now all of a sudden Edge has gone weird again and non of the extensions will work.... AGAIN!.... I love Windows 10 but my patience is getting very thin after constant glitches on production updates as I use it for my work/business. I've actually had fewer problems with W10M on both production and insider releases...

Hi- I will be very happy if someone can help me olve this mystery-

I'm using windows ME and IE 6.0- when i try to save a jpeg- the only file type that i can save it as- is a bitmap. If I try to open this "bitmap" that I have save to my disk- i get the "download file" dialog box that tells me that I am trying to download the file from my own hard drive- there is no way for me to open the file. Any ideas, anyone?

Thank You!

Answer:IE saves all pics as bitmaps and won't let me reopen them

Can't really help you out much.
But there is a way to save in other formats.
In the name box add the image type to the name.

Like this Mypicture.jpg.
On the box that says file type it does not matter what it says when you add the file type to the name.

Now I have 1000's of .jpg files and only 6 .jpeg files. Some image programs will not open the .jpeg so don't use it. Use the .jpg.

Where are you getting these images from?
Are you sure you saved them as a image file or did you save the link to the images?

I've upgraded to Windows 10 and so far so good. I'm not sure if this is a question for W10 or for the Edge browser...? When opening the browser, I used to be able to see the Top Sites visited, and reopen closed tabs, sometimes even the previous session, and also sites visited on my Windows Phone. Now, I only get 'Top sites' and the MSN news feed. So far I can only find settings to set to open new tabs to Top Sites or a blank page. I'd prefer to be able to easily find recently closed tabs rather than searching through history. And being able to see and open sites from Windows Phone was nice, why is that no longer available?

Answer:How can I reopen closed tabs in Edge?

I guess IE11 could sync my desktop with my other devices including my phone. Not seeing any settings for this in Edge.

The last couple of weeks I've been experiencing issues with my Internet Exploring needing to close.  Whenever I'm online I almost always have two or more IE windows open at the same time. Very frustrating when I'm in the middle of a school research project This is what the error signature looks like....it means nothing to me....but maybe it helps some of you to know what the problem is??...??AppName: iexplore.exe    AppVer: 7.0.6000.16544    ModName: unknownModVer: 0.0.0.0    Offset: 03c80f75Not sure what to do here, I've been using FireFox in the interim, but would really like to go back to IE, there's just certain functions that I really like (or am just used to). Thanks for any help you can offer!Jessica

I have had a problem with Yahoo jukebox for a long time. The windows need to close error wont let me open it. I now have the error coming up on a lot of programs. I would like to know if anyone else has this problem or knows how to fix it. I have searched through Microsoft and they will not give a answer to anything. Hope someone can help me.

Answer:need to close error

Hello drifter, Welcome to TSF!

Have you contacted the Yahoo™ Jukebox support about this, as I believe that they will have a faster and better solution for you.

Kind Regards,

I click ok and the desktop seems to blink, all my icons refresh and some programs in the task bar are gone. The ones I really need are satill there, such as anti virus, Zone Alarm firewall, network. I cannot run the file system checker as I previously posted. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello this is my first post here so please bear with me. Internet Explorer 7 gives me an error message whenever i close it. This only happens on one of my user accounts. All the message says is that IE encountered a problem and had to close, sorry for the inconvience. I dont think this is hurting anything but its kinda annoying. My OS is Windows XP, i have 1gb of ram, and a 3.2ghz intel pentium 4 processor. thanks for any info you can give on this problem.

Hey, can someone help! My hijack log is clear and I removed some spyware, the only thing wrong now is that I get a "Performed and illegal operation" error when I shut down Internet Explorer - something about a kernel error. I say ok or clikc the x and it won't go bye bye. So, I have to leave it in the corner or reboot. Any ideas about th error or how to suppress it?

Thanks!

Hi,

Im running windows 10 pro with the latest creators update.
I didnt have any problems but suddenly and it was before updating to the latest version of windows my edge is unresponsive after rebooting my system.

When I open edge after a reboot I can use the menus and scroll. When I load YouTube I can see the videos and scroll but cant open any of them I have to close edge and reopen it to fix the problem.

I made a reset, deleted edge and reinstalled, used ccleaner but the issue is not resolved.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Im not sure if it is related to my new gpu but I think the issue occurred after installing my msi 1080ti gpu but im not 100% sure....other than that no changes in my system.

Thanks!

I have this:

ERROR SIGNATURE:

Event Type: BEX

P4: guard.dll
P5: 8.2.0.4674

I have no other functional browser, am STILL using XP and read
somewhere, which I cannot find now, this may be COMODO related.
But I was lost in the technical lingo and I lost the reference, in
frustration trying to make sense of technical jargon.

Please help, if possible and if there is a doable fix of which someone
is aware, PLEASE lay it out very simply and straight forward.

Thank you,

KJW

Answer:Google Chrome crashed, will not restore or reopen

For a whole stack of reasons you really need to get off XP just as soon as possible. In the meantime you can try using a different browser, or an older version of a different browser. Have a read HERE.
