Mouse Lock-Up (not there on boot) and Windows Lock-Up Transfering Files HDD to HDD.

Question: Mouse Lock-Up (not there on boot) and Windows Lock-Up Transfering Files HDD to HDD.

Hi,

My errors are a freezing cursor - dead mouse on every other reboot ..and.. With file transfers from one HDD to another I will frequently get a system lockup of Windows (forcing me to reboot. hard reboot). My System is CLEAN of viri and trojan as wella s spyware. I Have WinXP Pro Sp2. Running Zone Alarm Pro v6, Eset NOD32 v2.5, Webroot Spysweeper (for coookies and alt scans), Spyware Doctor v.3.2.1.359 (resident), and Trojan Hunter v4 (also resident on boot). I am also booting and browsing with Pop-Up Stopper Pro. My Hardware? Abit NF7-S rev.2, Athlon 3200 Barton core, Best OCZ 400Mhz RAM (?) - 1Gb in dual channel, Audigy 4 Pro for sound. Latest drivers for all "to best of my knowledge" Any Helpers? :)

*More on the file tranfer lock-ups. The two other drives are Seagate drives and identicle. They're 300 Gb each... I have not reformated them since my last Windows reinstall - they were detected right off.

Could be Windows isnt seeing those drives for what they are?? Even worse, a bus problem?

Thank you in advance.

Preferred Solution: Mouse Lock-Up (not there on boot) and Windows Lock-Up Transfering Files HDD to HDD.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello.

I need a mouse lock / pointer lock button on my website like this one called Interactive Example in the link.
Work only in FF or chrome.

http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/pointerlock/intro/

I can't find the script in the web page so maybe you can find it?
Or can anybody tell me how to get a Mouse lock / pointer lock script that generate the mouse coordinate view?

I was on my Y560 Model 0646 checking my email and the computer shut off on me.  I went to turn it back on and it does not turn on.  The caps lock and number lock light up.  Blue tooth, Battery, and Video status all light up above keyboard in status area.  None of the fans are going, and it does not sound like anything is running.  I tried removing the power and battery and pressing power button a few times.  Also tried to remove power and battery and holding down power and nothing.  It's almost like it freezes.  I can push the mute button and it lights up, but then cannot turn it off.  Please help.  Laptop just went out of warranty last month.

Answer:Y560 will not turn on. Caps Lock and Number lock light up but not fans or boot

I'm guessing it is because of the motherboard. Since it is out of warranty can a Y560 motherboard be purchased anywhere? Any ideas? Please help.

I have a Ideapad Y560P that shut down suddenly and when we tried to turn it back on, the Caps Lock and Num Lock (on F8 key) lights go on but the computer does not start. I saw a similar thread from 2010 but there was no resolution. I assume that the two lights on at the same time at attempted start indicate some kind of "fault" condition in the computer. I have not been able to get the bios to start so that I could run diagnostics. I pulled the battery and held down power for 30 seconds, pressed start twice, put the battery back in but still won't start. I pulled memory out, trying to get a POST "beep" error but that didn't occur. I put memory back in one dimm at a time. I pulled the Hard Drive out and put it in an external enclosure and was able to extract the information to another laptop so I'm pretty sure I didn't have a hardware Hard Drive failure. Other than the one reference in this forum I haven't seen any information about this kind of, what I assume is a, hardware failure. I assume that Lenovo has some kind of guide that tells them what the lights mean. The computer was about six months out of warrenty when it failed. I called Lenovo to attempt to extend the warranty but they won't once it is out of warranty. Looking for some idea of what failed, whether it is worth getting one of Lenovo's listed companies that repair laptops to look at it and fix the problem.

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock lights no longer function

Welcome to Windows TenForums, Vaindil.

It doesn’t seem to work on anyone’s system and there doesn’t seem to be a fix yet. You can read here into the beginning of the next page if you like.

Hi,I have an inspiron 9400 that has been having some issues lately.  As of right now, when I push the power button, the power light comes on but it does not boot or even post.  The Num lock stays on and the caps lock and scroll lock lights blink for about 40 seconds then the whole thing shuts off.  This can obviously be only a few things but, how to I figure out what those blinking lights mean.  I have search dell support but have found nothing.  Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer:blinking Caps lock and Scroll lock/ no boot up

Try reseating your RAM securely in their slots.  I have read that blinking of any of the lock indicators is a sign of memory failure.

Hello All,
I am talking about an encryption software that can lock folders and files on windows XP. The version is Folder Lock 6.1.7.

I want to know if it is possible to lock files currently being downloaded from my browser (i.e. Can my browser access the files and add parts to them and at the same time, can the files be protected?)

Thank you

Answer:Folder Lock 6.1.7 - trying to lock downloading files

You might be able to find a browser add-on, but I personally haven't heard of anything you can use. You need the files on the computer before you can encrypt them.

Before you decide to use a program like Folder Lock, I would suggest you search this site for "folder lock" threads and read about all the people who have lost files with that program.

Hi,

how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then try updating your BIOS.  If neither works...It's pretty much dead and not worth fixing.  To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

For some time now, i have been experiencing that my Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking) all at the same time, I tried to google it but i can not find any solutions or explanations for it.

Does anyone know if it is bad? and what is causing this?

I am having a wired keyboard with nothing fancy just a standard issue Logitech keyboard.

Answer:Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking)

Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.

Recently, i've noticed that everytime windows 10 (x64 pro) starts and gets to the initial lock screen, it takes up to 6 seconds to show the mouse cursor and register keyboard events in order to let me log in. It used to be instantaneous.

Is this related to Build 1511 (10586.104)? All my drivers are up to date, etc.

Purchased in Navy Exchange last year (around July 2013)

I have dropped it once or twice from at most a 3ft fall inside a padded case. I mostly use my computer for school work, some gaming, extensive video/photo editing, internet browsing. I've installed some debatable programs but have been installed long ago. Most of my programs included Microsoft Office, Adobe suite, Steam, iTunes, uTorrent, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, Winrar, VLC, etc. But are now gone due to the refresh I had just done last week for prior problems, but still experience problems.

I recently been having issues with my computer where it just won't respond at all. Like today, I had it working for a few hours, but then went out and left my laptop on the lock screen, and came back to it being completely stuck. Completely stuck as in, no keys or clicks would unlock the screen to the login prompt. However, my cursor was fully able to move around the screen, and my caps/num lock buttons work as they display the lights enabling/disabling them. The time when it was stuck was 8:03pm, but the clock was stuck on 7:55. But on the bottom of the front of the laptop, the HDD orange light is not lit up at all, which I believe suggest that the HDD is not reading/properly reading. Oddly e... Read more

Not a techie.  Can't get straight answer ANYWHERE.  New laptops tend to NOT have indicators on the keys.  Hoping Windows 10 has indicators that can be turned on and PROBABLY would show up in the tray at the bottom right of the screen.
I have heard of sites where such things can be downloaded but again NOT a techie, so I hesitate to go outside of Windows/Microsoft for downloads.  I do not know what download sites are safe or spoofs.

Please plain English ... i.e. go to settings etc.  Or just give me a Microsoft approved site for download.

How do I remove the Caps and Num Lock indictor for a Lenovo G50, that is running Windows 10?

Answer:Remove Caps lock/Num lock indicator? (Windows 10)

Hi Thisismyname01 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

On a similar G50 , this was resolved by uninstalling Energy Management .

Another steps that was advised :

1. Opening Control Panel >Program and Features>Uninstall a Program and look for Caps OSD or Lenovo OSD

2. On the display properties of the graphic card , you may also configure to "Show indicator for a few seconds" .

3. Disable hotkeys from the BIOS ( but this may change all other usable hotkeys ) . Lets's reserve it a last option.

Update us what works for you.

Windows XP has decided it doesn't like my Belkin F8E815 wireless PS/2 keyboard/mouse combo.

I see the problem when I switch off my PC and then switch on again. (Restarts don't seem to bother it.)

At the login screen, my mouse works fine... until I touch my keyboard. Then both lock up--meaning all key strokes and mouse movement/clicks are ignored. Windows itself hasn't frozen; I can shut down with a single press of the power switch.

I have tried a few things and discovered the following:
I can "fix" the problem by rebooting, going into the BIOS setup and pressing F10 to save and exit. Oddly, I don't have to make any changes to the BIOS--just save and exit! Pressing escape to exit without saving doesn't work. Of course, this fix works only until my next reboot.
I can put in my Ubuntu DVD and run off the disc without any problems at all. (Hence this being posted to the Windows XP forum.)
I tried out my kids' USB keyboard/mouse combo. They work fine with my PC.
I borrowed a wired PS/2 keyboard and wired PS/2 mouse from work. They also work fine with my PC...
...In fact, I can even use the wired PS/2 keyboard from work with my troublesome Belkin mouse without any trouble...
... but... when I swap (meaning I use the Belkin keyboard with mouse from work) I see a similar problem. (Only the keyboard locks up, not the mouse.)
I will be very grateful and impressed if you guys can solve this one for me.

Most of the time when I try to use my right mouse button ( for example, right clicking on an icon, photograph, file name) will freeze up the system and it will become un-responsive right away.

If I am doing a word doc, I can right click for spell check and that works fine, or right click the start menu.

I have a Dell computer running XP service pack 3 with a pent D 2.33Ghz and 1 G memory.

I tried renaming Normal.dotm, as someone had suggested, but it made no difference.

Any Ideas?

Hello, I'm experiencing a problem with Windows, where when I use a program such as windows media player, or msn, the computer will lock up the mouse and keyboard a couple minutes later. Although it is not a complete lock up; I am still able to move the mouse, I just can't click anything, and with the keyboard I can use some shortcuts like CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and the windows key still makes the menu from the bottom left to come up. (although I can't use ALT+TAB or ALT+F4.)

If I log out when it is locked up, and log back in, it will remain locked up. If I restart the computer entirely it works fine, until I run the programs again.

It will not lock up with any games though, which I've found weird, but some other programs such as itunes will lock up. At first I thought it would be something with my sound becuase I first experienced it with windows media player, but after it locked up with only msn live running, I'm pretty sure it is a Windows issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 while powering up the unit?

If this does not work, I would recommend checking an external USB keyboard.
If the USB keyboard would functions, then this means that the internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.

My friends dv7-1135nr is not posting. The num lock and caps lock led light will flash once every 2 seconds at the same time. According to HP this issue is a " not functional" cpu. I am ordering another cpu for 16.00 off ebay because this is cheaper opposed to ordering another board. Anyone else have this issue? And if so did you fix it ?

My recent purchase of the above All-in-One PC (running on Windows 10) included the Lenovo SK-8861 keyboard which has no lights for the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK keys. How do I get them to be displayed on the screen when pressed? When I went into Display Settings in Control Panel, I could not find the option to set them on or off.  so, based on the instructions on https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht002122, I installed the Hotkey driver from http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/downloads/ds031814.  When I now go into Advanced Settings under Display Settings and click on Screen Configurations, I can see the Enable on-screen display checkbox and the Appearance settiings but the expected Indicator Settings for NUM LOCK and CAPS LOCK aren't being displayed as expected. Can anybody advise what I need to do to enable these settings? Lenovo On-Screen-Display is listed under the Installed Programs in Control Panel. Many thanks.

Answer:Displaying the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK indicators on the Lenovo AIO 510 Ideacentre

I do not have an answer for how to enable them via the control plane, but I can point you to a free tool called Keyboard LEDs that I have used in the past that when installed will put an indicator in the system tray, and will sound a tone  and display on screen if so configured in its settings.. Cheers,

Hello guys,

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I am having some issues.

First one is: When I click jpg, gif, or any image files that uses the photo viewer as a default viewer, photo viewer pops up twice, one with the file I selected and one with the collection screen. It only does this on the first view of a image file after reboot. Once it does this, it doesn't do it until I reboot.

Second one is: I use a PIN as my login password. The number lock on the log in screen doesn't work. I almost always have to press NUM Lock button in order to use the number key pad. I checked the BIOS setting and Num Lock is on.

I will be appreciate any help.

You've posted 2 different problems that should have been separate posts. I don't have a solution to the first but the second is probably because the keyboard driver has not yet loaded before getting logged in. I saw the same during setup of a new ASUS Notebook just yesterday that came with Win8.1. Disconcerting was the lack of a light or screen indication that the NumLk key had been pressed, just noticed the same is occurring on my Dell Inspiron 15R that has been Upgraded to Win10 although it is a rescued/rehabbed Notebook, it does have the light on the front edge of the case, just does not turn on.

I used the move command to take all my excel files from one directory to a new one I had just set up. I was trying to organize my files.. ugh! When I went to open the .xls files I get the message "excel cannot access filename.xls. The document may be read-only or encryped" I have tried to copy the and I get " cannot copy Access deined" Make sure disk is not full or write protected. The only action I did was to drag the files from one folder to another. Help!

I can create and open and close newly created files, just can't access the old files.

Answer:Windows XP Move command causes files to lock

Welcome to TSG....

Are you using an encryption program on these files at all?

Some times when you are using the Move command the command which actually copies the file first then deletes the file after copying it gets the destination file messed up somehow.

The best way to do this Move is to use the copy command first then make sure your files are ok then go back and manually delete them.

There is one thing you can try and that is go to the recycle bin and see if the files were deposited in there and if so restore to original locations.

Restoration is an easy to use and straight forward tool to undelete files that were removed from the recycle bin or directly deleted from within Windows

Wellll....my stepdad was having problems installing Anarchy Online.....so he downloaded some fuct up AntiVirus called eAccleration, annnndddd.....welll, his computer is fuct up again....I did a scan with SpyBot Search N Destroy, it detected like 12 entries of eAcceleration, as spyware, soooo I removed it ALL. Well....then I restarted the comp, and Zone Alarm Pro gave some weird message about a new network (it was a quick sys tray message so I couldnt see the whole thing), but anyways, now the comp is ****ed up, when I reboot and log in with his username, nothing loads, I can see the desktop icons, but the task bar locks up...cant hit Start, nothing. I also tried creating a new Folder and trying to goto like any webpage and it appears its not on the internet, gives me Internet Search page could not be found error.

Soooo....since, I installed TweakXP a few days before this, I decided to use the System Restore point that TweakXP created, but it didnt help.....it's still locking up on loading the taskbar. I can get into Safe mode fine without any problems. It's like something that is trying to load is locking up and stopping everything from loading on the task bar. I even went into msconfig and disabled the ZAPro startup.

Keep in mind, I just reformatted this computer like 2 weeks or less ago.....which means, Anarchy Online + my stepdads stupidity + eAcclerater = ****.

Okay...I "re-restored" the comp again to the date of the Tweak XP Pro System Restore P... Read more

Hello all.
Yes I am new to the board. As the name implies I have to build, upgrade, and maintain all the computers and related equipment in the house for a family of 5 (aaaagggg).
I have been watching this board and so I will post complete info on this problem.
Computer is oldest in house (built originally in 2001):
* Antec mid tower with 400W P.S.
* Intel D850GB Motherboard with 1.8GHz intel processor, and originally 2 x 256 v iking Rambus RIMM modules for total system memory of 512MB.
* ATI All in Wonder graphics card.
* Adaptec U160 SCSI controller with a 37GB Seagate U320 HD as C drive (running at U160). Another Seagate 160GB IDE hardrive on IDE channel 1.
* Plextor PX-708 DVD-RW drive on IDE channel 2.
* Other assorted parts like Soundblaster 5.1, old USR 56.6 modem board, ethernet board, USB 2.0 board etc...

I just upgraded the system to the 37GB Hardrive. It had the old 4.5GB harddrive with windows XP on it and it worked.
Last year I had upgraded this system with another 1GB of RAM 2 x Kingston KTC7338/512 Rambus RIMM modules. Yes the memory is installed correctly with 2 x 256 in bank 0 and 2 x 512 in bank 1. The BIOS sees it, BIOS POST makes it through no problem, and windows XP had no problem with it. (sped it up quite a bit)
Now this new Hardrive was long formatted twice. (once with the SCSI controller and once of course with Win XP during install). Here is what happens. With all the memory installed Windows ... Read more

Strangest thing happened to me today. Was listening to some music and light web browsing today when suddenly my PC began locking up for 2-3 seconds, then normal use for a few seconds, then lockup again. After a restart I am stuck and the 'Windows is starting' screen and the logo swirls endlessly. I put the Windows disk in to attempt a repair and noticed the same type of locking up as I did before (while in repair mode) and never actually got to try a repair as it locked up completely

Reinstalled pretty much all of the drivers, no effect.Any ideas? Is this thing already broken?

I have an Athlon 650, 512 MB PC running Windows 2000 server edition running Internet Connection Sharing (for cable modem), and IIS 5.0 for several web sites. I also use it as a file server. I usually leave it just sitting there and just update things every once in a while. I don't even have a monitor hooked to it. Should I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and click the "lock computer" or log out? Would this make it more secure somehow to hacks? I haven't had any problems yet, but I just want it secure as possible.

Any help would be appreciated!

I went to get my HP dv4 Pavilion laptop after work tonight to check email and i opened it up and moved around the mouse to wake it up...the lights on they keyboard all came on as if it were starting but the screen stayed black. I waited a few minutes because sometimes it's been known to take a few seconds to actually kick on...but nothing happened so I forced shutdown by holding the power button. Turned it back on and the screen came on(with a "your system didn't shut down properly error screen) but it still started, but now the Caps Lock and Scroll keys had blinking lights on the side and top, blinking together about every second. I tried tapping the buttons and nothing happened. What caused this and how can i get rid of the blinking. I've read from doing a google search that shutting down, taking the battery out and unplugging from the A/C adapter and holding the power button for 15 seconds takes care of the problem...but I would like to make sure that is safe before trying as this is a fairly new laptop(just got it at Christmas time). I'm running Windows 7 if that makes a difference. would also like to add that I just noticed that my little batter icon says it is plugged in but not charging....it's sitting at 80%....this is a brand new ac adapter that I just got last week...so I hope it's not that.Thank you for any help you can give me....and sorry if this isn't the right forum....it seemed to be the best fit.

Lenovo Y720 So, when I hit caps ock or num lock an on screen display tells me whether capslock or num ock has been pushed. While I appreciate it is helpful for some, in my case it become a hinderance. You need to remove "num lock" for single key print screen request, and if I have a short time frame, I am stuck without being able to screenshot until the num lock indicator goes away.  How do I turn off the on screen display.  Now, before you send me to the previously asked questions of similar nature, I have tried. There is no "display settings" in Control Panel. There is no "advanced display settings" on the settings panel. And there is no way to control it through NVIDIA or Intel graphics settings (that I can see).  Thanks kindly.

Good afternoon,

I just did a clean install of 7 to fix errors with my laptop, and it fixed one, but not the other main issues,
My caps lock, and number lock button on the keyboard don't have a light on it and the pop up that is supposed to pop up doesn't show up on screen.
I figured by doing a clean install it would all magically appear again... I was wrong, I have tweaked everything I could think of looking/trying to change setting from the keyboard in control panel, (including messing around with ease of use) and Gateways so called "support" area was of no help, as well as googling the issue has led me down a path of useless tips, I have also looked on this forum for help.

Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I'm currently running Windows 10 Pro version 1607, and have several user accounts defined on my system. Some of the accounts have passwords, and some don't. When an account without a password is the last one to use the computer, windows remembers that and automatically goes straight to the users desktop after boot. I don't like this behavior and always want windows to boot to the lock screen so a user can chose their account.

Automatically booting into a users desktop is inconvenient to everyone using the system, as they then have to logout that user and then select their account to login.

I can't find a setting to change this behavior so Windows will automatically boot the lock screen even if the user doesn't have a password. Can this be done?

Thank-you.

Answer:Make Windows 10 *always* boot to the lock screen

It should not be booting to last person logged in. That user without a password should have one set. It defeats the purpose for allowing users to have their own account.

Sometimes I might accidentally drop something in there when I meant to be dragging it to do an "open with", or I might accidentally click as I'm moving my mouse over the icons and it drags an icon to a different position and I have to figure out where to drag it back to, and in the most bizarre Windows feature ever ... if I then shutdown and startup, despite having moved that icon back to it's original position, after startup it'll be back to the wrong position (that it only spent 3 seconds being in by mistake).

Currently I just have a screenshot of my icons and have to use that as reference to keep them in the places I want them. Example ( imgur.com/UjltgAh ):

Answer:"Lock the Taskbar" doesn't really lock it, how can I truly lock it?

This seems like it will do what you want if the bottom icon is considered the thumbnail but I think they mean the aero peek thumbnail.

At its WinHEC hardware conference in Shenzhen, China, Microsoft talked about the hardware requirements for Windows 10. The precise final specs are not available yet, so all this is somewhat subject to change, but right now, Microsoft says that the switch to allow Secure Boot to be turned off is now optional. Hardware can be Designed for Windows 10 and can offer no way to opt out of the Secure Boot lock down.
The presentation is silent on whether OEMS can or should provide support for adding custom certificates.

So I guess that gets rid of the linux disk option for file recovery on a WIndows 10 OEM computer where SecureBoot cannot be disabled not to mention any chance of running a Windows 7 PE disk.

This all seemed to work, and the concerns that Linux and other operating systems would be locked out proved unfounded.
This time, however, they're not.

I need help. I will explain when I believe the problem began. I Had windows xp running with 3 harddrives and a Cdrom drive. My CdRom drive began to give me problems, so I was going to swap it with one from one of my other computers. At the same time I wanted to change the way I had all my drives connected. I had originally had the 80 gig drive as a Primary Master, with a smaller drive acting as the Slave. I also had the Cdrom as Master Secondary drive and a smaller drive attached as the Slave. Now everthing was running fine, exept that my cdrom drive would read the discs only if it would start up with the disk in the drive. If I tried to change it, windows would ask me to place a disk in the F: drive, when there already was one. I thought to replace the CdRom drive with another working device. while at the same time I decided to change up my Connections. I took the "new" cd rom drive and made it Slave Primary to the Master 80 Gig drive. then I took the two smaller drives and put them together as sencondary devices. when I tried to turn on the computer all that happens is, as soon as I touch the power my 3 lights on my keyboard come on. Num Lock Caps Lock and Scroll Lock. I know the drive is turning on because I can feel & here it wirr. I tried taking everything off except for the 80 gig drive and I still got the same problem. Later on I noticed that there are a bunch of smaller connections that come from the front of my computer power, sleep, and reset buttons. ... Read more

Ok I've been suffering this issue with Windows 10 for as long as I can remember, and it's stopping me using it as the primary OS.

In short I have two, intermittent issues which nothing I do seems to resolve.

1: After waking up from sleep and typing my username password and hitting return, the screen goes black. Cursor moves, Windows + P operates (Screen options do appear from the right) but doesn't actually make any difference, and I'm stuck having to hard reset because ctrl alt del doesn't work either. This isn't an every time issue, hence googling seems to fail miserably because all the examples are people getting it every time. This, for me, is a 3 in 10 regularity.

2: Logging a user off occasionally sees the lock screen ... locking up. Ironically. Mouse moves, and power button DOES work but that's all that works.

These issues are plaguing me and I just cannot fix them - endless googling has left me empty handed, and I've tried disabling SLI. No help. I've tried disabling apps. No help. Nothing I do makes any difference and event viewer doesn't seem to reveal anything useful either.

Anyone got any idea how I can resolve this?

System is:

2TB Seagate HDD
4790K
2x980Ti SLI
32 GB RAM @ 1800 Corsair
Asus Z97-A
Windows 10 & Windows 7 dual boot 64.

Hi everyone.I have an acer 6930, running windows 7.I have a problem with the following; it starts with the volume word being displayed on screen permanently, along with this, the volume up & down control is disabled. When this is on screen the caps lock is locked on and the number lock is locked on so i can't use the numerical side of the keyboard. I've also noted that if I'm surfing the net, instead of a new page opening up on a tabbed page(so i just back space to the original entry) I get new tabs opening every time I click on something on the page.

Answer:volume / cap lock / number lock problem

If the numlock is lit and you can't use the numeric keypad, you have a keyboard problem. Numlock being lit means the keypad is active or enabled.Check your browser settings. How new pages open and links respond is controlled by the browser.Download the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool and run it.http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...It changes, so download and run it weekly. Answer:CAPS LOCK AND NUM LOCK LIGHT NOT WORKING ON G 570

hi SD_musician,

Can you try to:

1. Check this registry fix to disable or enable the Num Lock key at startup
2. Referring to this article, try to press Fn+F8 to enable numlock at the Windows login screen then press the power button to shutdown / restart the PC.
3. Check for an updated BIOS from the lenovo website to fix both capslock and numlock issue (press Windows Key+Rt > type msinfo32 then press Enter to know your BIOS version).

Note:
Backup your important files and follow this readme instructions before updating the BIOS.

Let me know your findings.

Cheers.

Hi All.

I have a new one installed Lenovo T450s with Windows 10 Entreprise.
I have joined the machine into a domain without some active GPO.
When I'm at home or sitting at a customer and must unlock the screen, it takes a war! It is as if searching for the DNS server for my AD domain as my PC is a member of.
In Windows 7 or Windows 8 there is no problem.
This is not a problem in Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Some have suggestions?

Thank you

I just bought a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and a Kensington lock (that is a suggested security accessory by most official Lenovo resellers for this model !!). The problem is that I can't find a slot to plug the Kensington lock. Is there something that I am missing?I hope that Lenovo is not offering a series of 'professional' laptops without one of the most needed features for professionals that have to work with sensitive data on clients' sites and uncontrolled environments!

Apparently Windows 10, and I don't know for how long before that, has had a feature that when you change Scroll Lock / Num Lock key settings there is a notification that flashes on the screen. I have never used these keys and so have never noticed this annoyance before.

However, due to an update in VirtualBox which saves and restores the state of these keys between virtual machines and the Windows Host, I now see these notifications and they are very very annoying. Especially if you are capturing a screen shot.

As you can see from this screenshot of a virtual machine window, it's trashed by the windows 10 overlay. It took me sometime to prove to myself that the problem is the interaction between the VM in virtualbox and Windows 10. I'm not suggesting that this is VirtualBox fault, since someone probably wants the key settings saved / restored in the VM. And I'm not saying that Windows 10 should never display this, since some folks probably love this feature.

But I need to turn it off.

I've looked through the settings and can't see a way to turn this off.
Can anyone show me how to turn off this display in Windows 10?

Thanks much,
wg

Bought the Folder Lock program and have a problem when uninstalling it.

When we use Folder Lock's Uninstall Option we get a message on reboot that some of the Windows XP Service Pack 2 files were removed. It then asks for the Windows XP CD to reinstall some of the operating files the Folder Lock uninstall program removed. We are using a Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 laptop, which doesn't have a CD player in it. We don?t have the original Windows XP CD either. Same thing happens when trying to remove Folder Lock using Windows Add & Remove Programs Option in Control Panel.

After we deleted the Folder Lock Program and choosing the option not to insert the Windows CD after rebooting - Windows became very unstable ? giving us a lot of error messages.

We tried using our Desktop XP CD on an external USB Hard-Drive but the program said it wasn?t the original install disc. Don?t have the original Disc.

Can?t understand why the Folder Lock uninstall option would delete important Windows operating files or why its support team won?t answer our question or reply to our emails.

Does anyone know how to manually uninstall the Folder Lock Program so we don't loose the needed Windows XP files or how to get the deleted Windows files reloaded onto the laptop?

Thank you,

Skid

Answer:Need help...Folder Lock uninstall.exe removes needed Windows XP operating files.

I would start with a check disk as a system file check might require the Operating System CD. If your version of Windows isn't an upgrade the files required should be on the hard drive in Windows.

Manual steps to run Chkdsk from My Computer or Windows Explorer

1.Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.
2.Click Properties, and then click Tools.
3.Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed,
4.Use one of the following procedures:
?To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, click Start.
?To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, and then click Start.
?To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.
