Preferred Solution: Microsoft is providing select Xiaomi users with a ROM to put Windows 10 on their Android smartphones

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Microsoft is providing select Xiaomi users with a ROM to put Windows 10 on their Android smartphones

And who knows, perhaps this sort of thing could catch on to the point where handsets are sold as barebones devices that allow users to select the OS of their choice during the setup processClick to expand...

If you would have said that a year ago I would have laughed it off but not it seems like that might really be the way of the future.

There hasn't been any real innovation in the smartphone segment for the last few years, interchangeable parts on smartphones may very well be the way of the future, there just doesn't seem to be anyway to improve on what's already here without some drastic improvement like upgradability.

As far as making Windows 10 free to android users seems like a very smart move on Microsoft's part. There are currently more android phones in peoples pockets than any other smartphone. Making their OS free to them is a very easy way to get their OS in everyone's pocket.

Does anyone know if MSFT is working on installers that someone can buy/get and install it on some of the popular android devices???

Answer:Is there a way to install Windows 10 on Android devices like One Plus Two or Xiaomi Mi4?

Not even close! It's a whole world in terms of OS's! What MSFT did is create a somewhat called launcher (ROM) for the Mi4 (Xiaomi) but it's only tested from the inside (Privately)
So you better grab a Windows launcher in the Play store! Or you could search (If you are lucky) a torrent of the ROM and download it (If available) flash your Android phone and we'll... You got it!
But for now! Not even heard a word of it!

I've tried using both OneDrive and Google Drive to sync everything, but neither solution works like I'd like.

I basically want to take photos with my Android phone, have them automatically backup to a cloud location and then sync with my PC whenever I fire it up. I'd like to delete bad photos on the PC and then also delete the bad copy in the cloud and then my phone too.

Please share your ideas..

There is not really going to be any other type of solution out there for your needs. Of course you could just delete them from the phone first, instead of doing twice the amount of work.

Hi guys!
I'm currently a Lumia 640 LTE user. I'm very satisfied with this unit's performance and very impressed with windows 10 mobile despite it's occasional hiccups and persisting bugs, especially after coming from windows phone 8.1 with the Cherry Mobile Alpha Luxe. An acquaintance of mine is selling his Xiaomi Mi4 at an affordable price and although I despise the brand because of it's poor customer support (based on my personal experience with the Mipad), I'm thinking of buying it just to try out W10M on a premium hardware. My concern, however is that I am not so sure if the version of the W10M ROM available for the Mi4 is the old one or is it constantly updated and still updatable to current builds. Can anybody please shed some light on this? Thanks!

Answer:What is the latest build available for the Xiaomi mi4 on windows 10 mobile rom?

I have recently replace my 640 LTE with a Mi4 (the cheapest LTE versin, with 2Gb RAM) and goes much better, I Updated it to the last insider version in the fast ring and I'm happy with it.

Since Microsoft is wholeheartedly encouraging people to use Android phones, don't you think it would be better if they make some sort of Android emulator for Windows 10? This will enable us to run Android apps on our Windows machines and will help to close the app gap. This may even save W10M.
We already have Bluestacks emulator but it's very laggy and is not optimised for mobile devices due to it's heavy resource requirements.

At its Build developer conference last week, Microsoft made a pair of announcements about Windows development that were more than a little surprising: Windows will support applications developed for iOS and Android.

This immediately felt like a dangerous move. Windows will not be the first operating system to run foreign applications. Famously, IBM advertised OS/2 as a "Better Windows than Windows" in the 1990s, boasting that its platform would run all your existing Windows applications with greater stability and performance. More recently, BlackBerry 10 included support for Android applications, with BlackBerry licensing the Amazon App Store and using it as its gateway to a world of Android-compatible software.

Neither OS/2 nor BlackBerry 10 has made a success of this capability. There are two major problems with supporting foreign applications on a niche platform. The first is straightforward: it removes any incentive for developers to bother with the native platform. Investing in developing for a minor platform is already something of a gamble, and by telling developers "Oh hey, you can just use your existing Win16 or Android program..." as IBM and BlackBerry (respectively) did, you're implicitly sending them a message. "Don't bother learning our platform or writing native apps for it."Click to expand...

Microsoft reveals 23% of user upgrades to Windows Phone come from Android

Not a surprising number, considering instability + performance (and security) issues with many many android sets.

Answer:Microsoft reveals 23% of user upgrades to Windows Phone come from Android

I kindof just can't wrap my head around those numbers though. The Feature Phone to Smartphone upgrades are all great! But I wonder what kind of Android handsets the WP8 users are coming from. For instance I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Ace (Crappy Android Phone) to an "Ativ S" (ridicilously cheap top of the line WP8 Phone). That said though, I really regret doing so because this far WP8 has been pretty much only a disappointment as far as I'm concerned. And I think anyone coming from a proper Android handset will be equally if not more disappointed then what I am.

Hardware wise my Ativ S is absolutely phenomenal value for the money. But decisions such as locking the Search button to "Bing Only" (who the **** uses bing over google, seriously?) or not supporting swiping keyboards is just really killing it.

I'm not saying it's all bad. I'm likely to keep my Ativ S for a couple of years and it serves me very well for the most importaint tasks, such as calendar usage/todo lists/notes/email/photos and all of that. But with the direction microsoft are taking I think it's really quite unlikely that I will ever buy another windows phone handset.

It's kindof like I have a really good phone, and I know it's really good. But I JUST DON'T LIKE IT.

Hi Folks,

not sure if this is the correct place for this.

I am having major difficulty with printing for 3 of my users.

Set upAll 3 are running Win 7 64bit professional.
We use a network printer server located on the same LAN for our Ricoh Aficio MP C5501's
There are 250 other users unaffected by htis issue on the same LAN, using the same print server etc.
Issue persists for 3 users on all network printers.
Issue is with user's computer - (if I log in to their computers with my profile printing is very slow also, if they log in to another computer printing is ok)
The Symptoms are:All applications Office, adobe etc are incredibly slow when you click bring up the print window within the app, anywhere from 30 sec to 5 minutes. Sometimes it just sits there saying 'Connecting'
When you click the Print button the wait is equally as long.
Actions taken so far without success:Reinstall printer drivers on the print server.
Tried adjusting the tcp autotuning values between, disabled and normal
Remove all mapped drives all mapped printers from the users computers and tried just adding one printer.
Ran MS Network monitor to view the transactions going on between the PC and print server but didn't see anything obvious.
Question
I am convinced that there is something on the coputer which is mapped back to a server somewhere on our network that is connected over a WAN link or that no longer exists which is holding the up the print spooling.
Is there a way to see any and all locations ... Read more

Here's my situation. I've got a computer that's shared by several people (in a small church library), which I'm trying to lock down in a controlled fashion.

The system is running Windows XP Professional. In addition to the administrator account, I've created one restricted account for the librarian, which is password-protected, and one restricted account with no password for everybody else. It's a stand-alone computer -- no domain, no domain controllers, no active directory.

I've successfully implemented a local group policy which prevents users from doing things like changing screen resolution, screen saver settings, etc. But I'd like to have this restriction apply only to the one "everybody" account, and not to the other accounts, and I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. Is it possible? What are the steps involved?

Thanks,
Tom

Answer:Local group policy -- how to select users?

Hello, Tom, and welcome to TSF. If the "open to everyone" account is used by really numerous individuals, of varying levels of IT competence, then I would strongly suggest you take some time and have a look at a utility provided gratis by Microsoft, the Shared Computer Toolkit for Windows XP. Invest some time to browse all the area I've linked for you, and please post back if you really think this is what will effectively help you keep this computer under your control, your way, all the time.

Microsoft really wants people to get on the Windows 10 bandwagon, so much so that the company plans to start automatically downloading its new operating system to some users' computers next year.

Quote:
That's an aggressive move from Microsoft, especially given the outcry earlier this month after the company did the same thing accidentally. Users who've gotten the download will still be able to opt out before it's installed on the device, and they can roll back the upgrade for as long as 31 days after making the switch to the new OS, so that's some consolation.

It's a particularly raw deal for people who are on metered Internet connections. Windows 8.1 users aren't in danger there, because that OS won't automatically download updates over a metered connection. But Windows 7 users will have to turn off automatic downloads of all recommended updates in order to avoid downloading multiple gigabytes worth of operating system.

ComputerWorld: Android one-click Google authentication method puts users, businesses at risk
A researcher has released a proof-of-concept Android app that can steal 'weblogin' authentication tokens for Google accounts

IDG News Service - A feature that allows Android users to authenticate themselves on Google websites without having to enter their account password can be abused by rogue apps to give attackers access to Google accounts, a security researcher showed Saturday at the Defcon security conference in Las Vegas.

The feature is called "weblogin" and works by generating a unique token that can be used to directly authenticate users on Google websites using the accounts they have already configured on their devices.

Weblogin provides a better user experience but can potentially compromise the privacy and security of personal Google accounts, as well as Google Apps accounts used by businesses, Craig Young, a researcher at security firm Tripwire, said during his talk.Click to expand...

When i see video tutorials, etc under locations they can find other names within their network (ie. 1 name for each pc on network, etc or that is what it appears like).

I can only see 'location' as this current PC. Not PC # 2. If i enter username in the Object box, OR the name of the other PC, it says it can't find it.

i'm sure i'm missing a step somewhere but not sure where.

Regards,

SS

Answer:Remote Desktop setup- 'Select users' not showing other PCs on network

Hi and welcome to SevenForums!

I'm guessing the videos showed computers part of a domain(business) network which means domain users. These are different to local users.

For a home setup when you connect with Remote Desktop you need to log on with an account on the remote computer, meaning a local account on the computer you want to connect to.

"Select users" means local users on that machine. That others connecting to it from another computer need to know the local password to.

full article detailed in English : Microsoft upgraded users to Windows 10 without their OK

Internet users of predecessor versions of current Microsoft operating system are reporting on the Internet that the company is installing the new version of Windows, 10 without their permission.

According to what was reported in forums like Reddit, some computers are automatically restarted and then Windows Update starts the upgrade process of the Microsoft product without any chance of hindrance by the user.

According to InfoWorld, the update may be being automatically recommended by the program in the Windows Update list, update center that usually search for drivers and minor repairs and modifications to the operating system.

Microsofthad reportedin February that itwas ready tolaunch a generalupdateofthe planfor the newWindowsversiontoput it asrecommendedin theupdate center. For those whodo not want toinstall, just go to theWindows Updatein ControlPanel, notethe nextscheduled updatesandthenclearany operatingsystem upgrademention.

Even evaluated by critics positively, Windows 10 does not please everyone. The main fear regarding the update is compatibility with software running on versions 7, 8 and 8.1, but it may fail if the operating system is updated.

Microsoft has begun patching files on Windows XP and Vista without users' knowledge, even when the users have turned off auto-updates...In recent days, Windows Update (WU) started altering files on users' systems without displaying any dialog box to request permission. The only files that have been reportedly altered to date are nine small executables on XP and nine on Vista that are used by WU itself. Microsoft is patching these files silently, even if auto-updates have been disabled...windowssecrets.comMicrosoft responds:... ?Before closing, I would like to address another misconception that I have seen publically reported. WU does not automatically update itself when Automatic Updates is turned off, this only happens when the customer is using WU to automatically install upgrades or to be notified of updates.?..isc.sans.org

Answer:Microsoft Updates Windows Without Users' Consent

Microsoft acknowledges the lack of noticeIn a post the same day on the Microsoft Update Product Team Blog, program manager Nate Clinton confirmed that updates to Windows Update itself are performed without notifying users. This is true even if users specify Let me choose when to install them or Notify me but don't automatically download or install (two of the four options available to users). How Windows Update Keeps Itself Up-to-Date...The point of this explanation is not to suggest that we were as transparent as we could have been; to the contrary, people have told us that we should have been clearer on how Windows Update behaves when it updates itself. This is helpful and important feedback, and we are now looking at the best way to clarify WU?s behavior to customers so that they can more clearly understand how WU works...

Over the past half-decade, a growing number of ordinary people have come to regard virtual private networking software as an essential protection against all-too-easy attacks that intercept sensitive data or inject malicious code into incoming traffic. Now, a comprehensive study of almost 300 VPN apps downloaded by millions of Android users from Google's official Play Market finds that the vast majority of them can't be fully trusted. Some of them don't work at all.

According to a research paper that analyzed the source-code and network behavior of 283 VPN apps for Android:
18 percent didn't encrypt traffic at all, a failure that left users wide open to man-in-the-middle attacks when connected to Wi-Fi hotspots or other types of unsecured networks
16 percent injected code into users' Web traffic to accomplish a variety of objectives, such as image transcoding, which is often intended to make graphic files load more quickly. Two of the apps injected JavaScript code that delivered ads and tracked user behavior. JavaScript is a powerful programming language that can easily be used maliciously
84 percent leaked traffic based on the next-generation IPv6 internet protocol, and 66 percent don't stop the spilling of domain name system-related data, again leaving that data vulnerable to monitoring or manipulation
Of the 67 percent of VPN products that specifically listed enhanced privacy as a benefit, 75 percent of them used third-party tracking librar... Read more

Microsoft begins denying updates to some Windows 7 users

Microsoft this week began blocking Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs equipped with the very newest processors from receiving security updates, making good on a policy it announced but did not implement last year.

But the company also refused to provide security fixes to Windows 7 systems that were powered by AMD's "Carrizo" CPUs, an architecture that was supposed to continue receiving patches.

The decree that led to the update bans, whether allowable or not under Microsoft's new policy, was revealed in January 2016, when the company said making Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 run on the latest processors was "challenging." Microsoft then ruled that Windows 10 would be the only supported edition on seventh-generation and later CPUs and simultaneously dictated a substantial shortening of support of both editions.

The biggest impact was on Windows 7, because it had become the standard in enterprises -- Microsoft's most valued customers -- with deployment shares far north of 50%. According to Microsoft, Windows 7 was to be fully supported on sixth-generation processors -- Intel's were dubbed "Skylake," AMD's included Carrizo -- until July 17, 2017. At that point, some Skylake-equipped PCs would continue to receive some security updates; other such PCs would get nothing.

Microsoft later walked back the cut-off, first by extending the end-of-support date to July 2018, then by repudi... Read more

Microsoft: Here?s How Windows 10 Protected Users Against WannaCry

Windows 10 was immune to WannaCry ransomware thanks to updates released by Microsoft in March this year, so the infection compromised mostly unpatched Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 systems.

In a research published today, Microsoft explains how Windows 10 managed to protect users against WannaCry (also referred to as WannaCrypt), explaining that the built-in mitigation system can provide additional protection, unlike Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 which both lack such features.

The company explains that thanks to virtualization-based security Windows 10 users are protected even before the breach, with the secure kernel stopping malicious code from being loaded into the Windows Kernel through the kernel Control Flow Guard (kCFG).

Furthermore, Windows 10 can stop shellcode injections with non-executable and randomized kernel memory regions (NS Paged Pool and KASLR).
In case the breach does occur, Device Guard and Windows Defender work together to block and intercept the malware in the initial stages of the attack, allowing only authorized applications to run and analyzing suspicious files. Furthermore, there?s Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection which protects networks, providing IT admins with reports and information on attack attempts for each computer in the network.

Keep systems up-to-date

Microsoft is showing yet another advertisement in Windows 10, this time for Chrome users

At this point, users should be used to seeing advertisements on Windows 10. Anyone who uses a browser other than Edge likely sees notifications that they'd get better battery life with the company's in-house browser, and let's not forget about all of the placeholders for Windows Store apps.

There's a new ad, and this one is directly targeted at a third-party app: Google's Chrome browser. Unlike previous ones that would try to steer the user toward Edge, this advertisement doesn't try to take you away from Chrome at all; instead, it suggests that you install Microsoft's Personal Shopping Assistant extension.

Brad Sams of Thurrott.com received a statement from Microsoft regarding whether or not to expect more content like this:

We are always testing new features and information that can help people enhance their Windows 10 experience

The advertisements seem to have begun four days ago, if the reviews for the extension are any indication. Of the 18 reviews that are shown on the listing, six of them are within that timeframe, and as you might guess, they're all one-star. If you're actually interested in the extension though, previous ratings are pretty positive.

While Microsoft says that it's "always testing new features", one would think that due to the negative feedback here, this practice would stop; however, one would ... Read more

Just like it happened in Windows 8, Windows 10 requires users to log in with a Microsoft account in order to install apps from the Store, but this is no longer valid for those whose computers are powered by the Pro SKU of the operating system.

German website WIndowsArea has discovered that Microsoft suddenly made a policy change that makes it possible for Windows 10 Pro users to install apps from the Windows Store without the need for a Microsoft Account.

There are some limitations though. First of all, only freeware applications can be installed, so if you want to purchase an app, an account is still required.

Then, if you?re trying to update a paid application that?s already installed on your Windows 10 device, an account is once again needed.

Why the change?
Microsoft hasn?t explained why exactly it made this change, but given the fact that it concerns the Pro version of the operating system, it?s not difficult to see that the company specifically targeted companies that are trying to get more control over what users install on their systems.

On the other hand, it?s not yet clear if the Enterprise SKU of Windows 10 can also install apps without a Microsoft account because reports in this regard are still mixed, with some claiming that it works, while others indicating that it doesn?t.

Without a doubt, installing apps from the Windows Store without an account can boost adoption of Store apps, but we?ve reached out to Microsoft to find out if this is inde... Read more

Most should be aware that Microsoft starting from October 2016, is forcing windows 7 users to install updates all rolled up into one, just like they do on windows 10.

Many of us don?t want this or do we want the freedom taken away to chose what updates we install. When people bought windows 7, this is not what we signed up to and not part of the licensing agreement.

Microsoft have no right to do this and should honour the way windows 7 has always issued updates, until end of support in 2020.

Microsoft really annoyed many people with the push for windows 10 spyware, crap ware, spying on peoples windows 7 computers and the relentless push to force, windows 10 on people who didn?t want it.

As if Microsoft hasn?t alienate it?s customers enough.

So I thinks many windows 7 users should get together and sue Microsoft for forcing these windows 10 style updates, on to windows 7 users, if they don?t revoke the stupid policy.

So what do you say?

Answer:Microsoft should be sued, forcing rollup updates on windows 7 users

I'm sure that a company the size of MS and the myriad of lawyers employed have taken all the necessary steps to protect themselves from being sued as you describe.

Windows XP users already face far higher risks from malware ? with XP users facing infection rates six times higher than Windows 8 users, according to a report released by the company. Microsoft will withdraw support for the ageing platform in April next year ? despite the fact that one in five PCs on Earth still use it.

Per 1,000 PCs scanned, 9.1 XP machines had been infected ? as compared to 1.6 for Windows 8, according to a report by V3.

Microsoft Windows XP was released almost 12 years ago, which is an eternity in technology terms. Over the years Microsoft has managed to break computers with updates, though not intentionally of course. However, it's generally wise to wait just a bit after Patch Tuesday and keep an eye out for reports of any problems that other customers are experiencing. It's generally safe, but you can never be too cautious.
Now those who have stayed behind, clinging to Windows 7, seem to be on the receiving end of just such an incident. If users of the TechNet forums are to be believed, and there's no reason to suspect otherwise, then KB3033929 could wreak a bit of havoc with Windows 7 systems.
The message boards have lit up with pleas to the company -- "Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3033929). Installation date: ‎3/‎11/‎2015 8:57 AM. Installation status: Failed. Error details: Code 80004005. Update type: Important. A security update. . . I can't find any info on this error. Tried the update twice and both times it failed".
Others chimed in stating similar issues, and other tech help forums have followed suit. "Failed for me too on a Dell Optiplex 790 with Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit", and the like. Various fixes have been suggested, but were met with responses like "I tried to manually install with the link of Carey Frisch, it didn't work. I'm always stuck on 72 percent".
This seems to be only causing problems for 64 bit users, though that's likely a fair amount these days. This appears to be only some users... Read more

Microsoft all apps are on Android But why not Google all apps on Windows Phone?

Answer:Microsoft all apps are on Android But why not Google all apps on Windows Phone?

Priorities. Where's the users? Android. So where's the money? Android. It's not right but it looks like Microsoft will try and focus more on Windows Mobile soon. Let's hope so.

Microsoft offers troubleshooting tool to help users easily fix issues with Windows updates

If you've ever encountered an issue while trying to install a Windows update, you'll probably know what a frustrating process it can be to diagnose and resolve the problem.

Microsoft's support documentation for dealing with the error codes generated by such issues isn't always helpful; and information shared by the user community on its support forums can be useful, but is often undermined by conflicting (and sometimes ill-informed) suggestions. Web searches for info on error codes are often a waste of time, and regularly lead to 'solutions' that do more harm than good.

So it's certainly welcome to see Microsoft try to make this whole process a bit easier to deal with, by offering a troubleshooting tool to help users address issues that arise when trying to install Windows updates.

As Microsoft explains:

This guided walk-through provides steps to fix problems when installing updates. Here are some commonly seen error codes: 0x80073712, 0x800705B4, 0x80004005, 0x8024402F, 0x80070002, 0x80070643, 0x80070003, 0x8024200B, 0x80070422, 0x80070020. These steps should help with all errors and not just the ones listed.

How does it work?

We?ll walk you through a series of troubleshooting steps to get your Windows up to date. Be sure to follow the steps in order.

The troubleshooter offers support for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, but notes t... Read more

Microsoft Data Shows Way Too Many Windows 7 Users Don?t Install Antivirus Apps

Despite the many security improvements included in the most recent versions of Windows, having an up-to-date antivirus solution running on a system still appears to be a mandatory thing to do given the growing number of attacks and infections targeting users.

But statistics provided by Microsoft reveal that users of older Windows versions enjoy playing with fire, as many of them don?t run any antivirus software on their computers, while others keep them off.

Specifically, the data that was published by the software company in the Security Intelligence Report Volume 22 concerns systems that aren?t listed as ?protected,? which means they?re not having an up-to-date antivirus solution because of various reasons.

In the case of Windows Vista and Windows 7 installs, the top reason is that no antivirus is installed, with more than 50 percent of unprotected computers running any of the two operating systems said to be going commando.

?On Windows Vista and Windows 7, unprotected computers predominantly report having no AntiMalware software installed at all. On subsequent Windows versions, Windows Defender is enabled by default if no other antimalware software is present, so the number of computers reporting no antimalware software is very low,? Microsoft explains.

Out-of-date antivirus protection
As far as Windows 8 and 8.1 users are concerned, the problem here is that most of them ... Read more

Microsoft is under fire again for the tracking services that it bundled into Windows 10, with some privacy watchdogs claiming that the new operating system can become some sort of modern Big Brother for the Redmond-based technology giant, but the company says that it collects absolutely no data without users? consent.

So basically, yes, some data is indeed collected from your computer, but you need to give your approval before anything happens.

By default, some tracking services are turned on, which means that this tracking takes place once you install the operating system, so a number of third-party apps that reached the web recently comes to address this problem by disabling not only the features that you can see and control and which collect your data, but also hidden services bundled with the same purpose.

But there?s one big question: should we turn to such apps to enhance our privacy when using Windows 10?

To get the best answer, we?ve reached out to Microsoft, asking whether such apps should be used by Windows 10 adopters and if there?s indeed a problem of privacy in Windows 10.

Stay away from these apps
The company only answered the first matter and said the following:

?We strongly suggest customers do not install applications of this nature. These types of third-party apps can alter the way the system operates, creating future problems and changing important settings and features,? a company spokesperson explained.

Answer:Microsoft: Users Shouldn’t Install Apps Disabling Windows 10’s Data Collection Features

I fully agree. If you want to tweak your system, do it yourself and not resort to such apps. 99% of the time, users of such apps do not know what has been done to their PCs. When things start breaking, they would be totally clueless. It is better to research and turn off the settings yourself, at least that way you have a higher chance of knowing what has been changed.

So I am having a rather unusual issue here....

I have been fixing up a computer which was loaded with malware/viruses. I have run the below software programs to help clean up the system:
- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
- Super Anti-Spyware
- HiJack This

After cleaning it up, I am running into one additional issue which is flagging my system as not being genuine

The system was purchased with a valid license key for Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

My thought here is that there is still some rootkit or rogue malware running which is preventing me access to this file. It is preventing access to other system files such as the hosts file, the ability to start/stop services through the services.msc console, etc.

Couple of things I have tried to resolve this:
- Microsoft support KB article 2008385 = https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2008385
- Disabled Plug N Play service within registry through CMD command
- Enabled Administrator account to attempt activation

After attempting these steps and performing a reboot, I am still unable to get around this unusual activation error. Please help!

Answer:Windows activation providing error code 0x80070005 (Access is denied)

Also provided is my MGADiag results from the infected system:

Microsoft goes all in with Android apps for business | ZDNet

Wow! How did I miss this one? I tested Office for Android when there were only Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Then Outlook became available. To be fair, I got an invite, but hadn't paid attention, since I didn't expect more than the base apps in the new Preview. My bad.

Now it seems that the whole enchilada is available for Android phones. I'm going to jump off the ledge and guess it's also available for Android tablets, since I haven't read Ed Bott's article.

Dogpile! That is if I got it wrong.

Answer:Microsoft Office for Android

It seems okay, I find myself still liking Google Docs, etc. I noticed when I tried Office on my Tablet it really soaked up the memory.
I don't have a high end tablet either (Samsung Tab 4).

Specifically when it comes to staying in Microsoft's app ecosystem (Cortana, Xbox, Outlook, etc.)

Which operating system is better when using Microsoft services extensively? I have no point of reference as I have never owned an Apple or Android product (and not that anxious too either) but I'm leaning towards one of them for my next phone. I'm just tired of feeling like I'm making due with what windows10 mobile offers me. I've only been a windows phone user for about a year now (Palm and BlackBerry before that) but have been relatively "all in" on Microsoft services for quite sometime.
So, when you're "all in" with things like OneDrive, Office365 subscription, Outlook2016 desktop client, and even an Outlook.com email account.... which OS (ios or android) works best?

Android will likely work better as Android allows developers greater control over system functions and such. Cortana and other apps are more powerful on Android because Microsoft has more control.

The only thing that is stopping me using my Lumia 950 as my main phone is the lack of apps available.
I want to get away from my iphone, but I cant, so many apps missing.
Hope this will change in 2017, but I very much doubt it.
My message to Microsoft is Please build a "Bridge" to allow android apps.
I don't want a android or iphone I want a Windows usable phone, but you are making it difficult.

Answer:Will Microsoft ever allow Android apps.

Question is will Android app developers ever take interest in Windows phone.
Why work for pennies when you can make dollars on the popular platform.

Since it seems Windows Phone is near death I decided to try all kind of Microsoft Apps written for Android.

Now Edge is in turn. Actually I am writing this post using Edge on Android. I love this browser. Works really well for me.

It would be great if we could share experiences.

I'm trying to get my Microsoft contacts on my new Pixel (i fully intend to switch back to Windows once they figure out what they're doing). However, I can't seem to figure it out. Anyone have any instructions? Everything I've found online so far seems to be for older versions of Android.

Answer:How to get Microsoft contacts on Android?

1. Transfer my data app (can receive maybe send too), OR
2. Sign-in w/ your live/hotmail/outlook account on Android phone. OR
3. Export your contacts with Outlook desktop app, it will save .CSV file on your PC, transfer that file to Android phone and 'try' to open it. That will save contacts on phone
Ps. Never tried 1&2 on Android, 3 did between 2 androids with .CSV file
