Word 2007 Crashes and Visio 2007 reinstalls on Win7 Ultimate x64 new PC

Question: Word 2007 Crashes and Visio 2007 reinstalls on Win7 Ultimate x64 new PC

Hello,

I have been running a new PC, ASUS Z97-WS, for about four months. Over 80% of my application crashes are related to Microsoft products. I am running WIN7 Ultimate x64, using Office 2007. Word crashes daily reporting ?? software exception (0xe00000002) ?? I have run hardware tests, including Word diagnostics without finding errors. I also run Viso Professional 2007, which attempts to reinstall itself every time I start the program. I can cancel the install or lets it proceed. Once started Viso works correctly. Word is my biggest headache as it tends to fail just when you are saving a file for the first time. If it recovers it normally looses the data entered, it sometimes shows repairs related to image objects but is vague on details.

I have all the latest Microsoft updates, BIOS updates, print drivers, and have disabled all Word add-ons and have replaced normal.doc.

What would you recommend I try to resolve these concerns? Thanks.
PS The programs worked better when I installed them on a previous PC about 6 years ago.

Preferred Solution: Word 2007 Crashes and Visio 2007 reinstalls on Win7 Ultimate x64 new PC

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Outlook 2007 mail search is incomplete when Visio 2007 Pro is installed.

Already uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 Pro SP2, Project 2007 Standard and Visio 2007 Pro.
Rebuild indexing and again uninstalled Visio 2007 Pro. Mail Search working as long as Visio not installed.

Any suggestions as to why.

Hello,

I have been running a new PC, ASUS Z97-WS, for about six months.  Over 80% of my application crashes are related to Microsoft products.  I am running WIN7 Ultimate x64, using Office 2007.  Word crashes regularly and normally reports “… software exception (0xe00000002) …”  I have run hardware tests, including Word diagnostics without finding errors.  Word tends to fail when saving a file for the first time.  If it recovers it normally looses the data entered, it sometimes shows repairs related to image objects but is vague on details.  If Word saves a file successfully, it seems to run fine from that point forward.

I asked for help with problems that were occurring after Avast found a malware infection on my computer.

Right now what is happening:

When I open a Word file, it freezes & then crashes (details below) often w/in 10-20 minutes of opening the file, but occasionally it has been longer (it went 3 hours once). Sometimes it happens when I am doing resource intensive things with an image dense document, other times it has happened when I have left the computer and the document is just sitting here open.

This often coincides with an extreme slowdown of everything running on the computer (though each has occurred separately).

I went through the suggestions for dealing with slow computers frex:

I have:

- cleaned computer
- went through Firefox troubleshooting checklist
- cleaned hard drive (used CCleaner)
- ran SFC
- ran Chkdsk
- checked for problem entries in Device Manager
- checked DMA status (already enabled)

- defraged page files
- checked for unnecessary running services
- verified Windows indexing system was disabled

Hey all,
I'm running Windows Vista (SP1) and I recently purchased a license key via Microsoft (via their ultimate steal offer) for Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007.

Once I had paid, I received a license key and a link to the installation file (which is around 550MB).

I downloaded the file, however whenever I try opening it (either by double clicking it or right clicking), Documents hands ("Not responding") and then eventually my whole PC tends to crash.

Once my computer even went to the blue screen of death (for a brief moment), saying something about a stop error? Sorry, I didn't catch it.

Could this be a faulty .exe I downloaded (if so, where can I re-download?) or a fault with my laptop? I've had some similar problems with explorer.exe in the past (the right click menu sometimes takes a while to appear), and explorer.exe sometimes crashes when I try open random files (even pictures sometimes).

EDIT: I've run virus-scans etc and they've all come back clean. I've also run a couple of explorer.exe tweaks (running in classic mode, disable thumbnails) but they haven't solved it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tristan Perry

Answer:Can't install Office 2007 Ultimate (just bought it) - the .exe (digi d/l) crashes

Just solved this issue now!

It must have been a corrupted download or something - I re-downloaded it (and called it Office07.exe) and it installed (slowly but surely).

Now must try and remove the old file - even trying to move it via robocopy crashes my PC! Heh.

Question: Word 2007 crashes

I'm using Windows Vista Business and Word 2007. In Word, if I go to File, Open, and try to right click a file, to rename it for example, Word crashes. The error message says Word has to stop, it then tries to recover lost information, and it re-starts. Any help appreciated. Thanks, RB

Hello,

Can someone help me please. I have a word merge running from an Access 2007 form to word (Mr Kallals' great code). The problem is that I set up certain underlying tables with numeric primary keys and then their second field contained the text I wanted to show on the form.

e.g. Column 1 Primary key
Column 2 Location

So PK 11 shows as 'Anywhere UK' on subsequent forms and queries. The problem is that my merge with the VBA module mentioned above and the word merge operation in Access' export facility only show '11' instead of ' Anywhere UK'.

I'm really stuck and very weak with vba. But surely this is something that might be fixed from within Word as much as Access

Can someone help.

Thanks

Hi I am a complete newbie at this but I don't know where else to go... I am a University Student and have 2007 at home and my lecturers are posting documents using word 2003. I was told when I upgraded that this would not be a problem with compatability mode opening all older versions. Every time I open a document (all end in .doc) word 2007 opens in compatability mode only to come up with "Word has encountered a problem and needs to close" No clue what the problem is and Microsoft diagnostics say nothing is wrong... I cant save a lecture or reading instructions. What is going on??? Can anyone help me out????

Answer:word 2007 crashes in compatability mode!!!

Try running a repair on your install, If you go to the control panel and select add/remove programs, look for Office 2007 and then click change/remove. You will get a menu that will ask you want you want to do, add feature, remove or repair. Select repair and then go through the rest of the wizard. Also make sure that you have your office disk handy.
As for compatibility, the only time that you will have a issue is if you create a new doc, and don't select the .doc extension. Other wise you will create a doc with a .docx extention

I have XP, Microsoft Home/Student 2007. I'm working on a long Word document (about 160 pages) that contains review comments: only about 10, but about 10 reviewers are named in the reviewers tab. The file crashes consistently when I navigate to a tracked change, show/hide reviews, make an edit, save the document. I've defragged the hard disk. I've re-created the normal.dotm template. I've looked at the paging size. I've tried running diagnostics and repairing the file. I'm not having the problem with shorter documents. The document was created in the version I have at work, Word 2007 enterprise. Any advice?

Word 2007 displays several Macro warnings when I open a simple Word document that contains no macros what so ever. The .Doc is just a table of four columns with data.

This same .DOC opened without any problem while running Vista64. All I did was an upgrade. Word was installed during Vista64 days.

Followed Microsoft's pop-up solution and have selected all Macro options at the "Trusted" option settings but no luck.

Any ideas?

On computer1, I have successfully created a customized form with user-define fields in Outlook 2007 and a merge document in Word 2007 that works (starting the merge from Outlook 2007). I want to copy the custom form with the user-define fields and the merge document to a second computer (computer2).

I saved the custom form with fields from computer1 to a *.fdm file using the Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Options, Custom Forms, Manage forms. On computer2 I used the same process to install the custom form file (*.fdm) into Outlook 2007 and created a new contact folder that uses the form and displays/adds new contact records correctly. I also copied the Word merge document to computer2. Computer1 and computer2 both have Office 2007.

All the problems occur on computer2. First, when I attempted to merge (starting in Outlook 2007), Word gave messages that all my user-defined fields did NOT exist in the database although I could see them in the Contact records. I attempted to create a new document and the user-define fields do NOT show up in the Word merge field list either.

On computer2, I created from scratch a new contacts folder with a new custom form and user-define fields which works when merging. Therefore, the problem seems to be that Word can not see the fields I created from the *.fdm file I installed.

Can anyone please help me with this? Thank you in advance.

My employer just upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007. According to the help files, I should be able to paste Excel charts into Word that update automatically when changes are made to either version.

I am clicking "Link to Excel data" and "Keep source formatting" when using the little popup clipboard to paste a chart into Word. But after closing both files, opening Excel and updating data on the chart, saving and closing Excel and re-opening Word, the chart is not updating with the new information. I can't get it to update by clicking on "refresh data" either.

Does anyone know how this is supposed to work? I was looking forward to being able to update just the Excel file and having it update in all the Word documents where it is pasted.

Our OS is Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. My work computer has a Pentium 4, 3 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM.

Question: Visio 2007

My office asked me to do a diagram and layout of our server room, found Microsoft had a nice looking program called Visio and downloaded the trail. Install went fine, rebooted (as instructed), opens fine but cannot drag any icons into the layout.
Maybe I have no clue what I am doing, but I picked Network, and it stated to drag the icon into the layout. Yet when I pick the icon, and drag nothing happens. Am I completely clueless right now on what I am doing?

Thanks.

Answer:Visio 2007

There should be some type of help feature in it you might want to take a look at. I have used Visio in the past, and IIRC, icons in the left pane should be able to dragged into the workspace without issue. Make sure you are working with a new document and aren't stuck in some type of tutorial.

Don't know if this is allowed but I'm sure that someone will tell me. Does anyone have a copy of Visio 2007 that they want to sell? Mine was just upgraded to 2013 at work and I hate it. PM me if yes. Thanks.

Sadly I only have 2010 and 2016, actually prefer 2010 Visio, as your IT dept likely have or had 2007 Visio and licences for this, then can they not downgrade you on just Visio as its a standalone Office app? I know my IT dept will if they have licences for Office apps, add what versions I want, worth an ask?

Do you have any COM add ins? Can you copy and paste the Hebrew lettering from word to an email in outlook (may be a quick work around)?Im unsure of the specifics to your problem but I did find this on the internet:in order to display multibyte (ie hebrew) characters correctly,- you must use a Unicode-type PST file- you must run Outlook in Unicode mode- the incoming message must be properly encoded (by the sender) as Hebrew.

I have Office 2007 on Windows 7.

When I am working on a sheet (or document) the ribbon can become inaccessible, nothing works when I click it (like a 'Not Responding' screen).

If, I switch to another open sheet/doc and then switch back the ribbon is accessible again!

I have uninstalled/reinstalled Office plus SP's twice but the problem persists, and, as is usually the case, this does not happen all the time but enough times for it to be really annoying!

Any ideas?

Thanks for your time on this

Hello,

I am having difficulty linking Excel data from a simple worksheet table to a table in Word 2007. I would like to retain all the formatting currently used in the Word table, but can't get the Paste Options working at all despite following all the advice on the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

If I copy the Excel data and then place my cursor at the first cell location within the Word table where I want the information to be pasted I get different paste options compared to placing my cursor outside of the table.

I am using the "Medium Grid 3 - Accent 3" Table Style in Word.

I have attached a couple of simple files to demonstrate the formatting and content in both apps.

Step by step help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello everyone,

I am printing letters on scrapbook paper which i will then cut out to make a banner. In order to do that correctly, the text needs to be a mirror image.

I cannot figure out how to do a mirror image of my text (within a text box) in Word or Publisher.

The flip horizontally button is available, but when i click it, nothing happens. Only the flip vertically button works, which is of no use to me.

I used the snipping tool which turned the text into an image. It worked but the sizes are off.

Please help.

I have a HP F4435 printer. The manual says there is a mirror image on button...which i dont have.

Please help!

Hi,

I'm having trouble running a mail merge with word 2007 and using an excel 2007 file as the data source. I've used this same word and excel file to run this mail merge 3 times a week for the last 12 mths.

Recently I had a spyware infection and had someone at spywareinfoforum sort it out for me. Ever since I've had this problem.

Ok, when I open my prepared word document that I want to use for the merge I get the following message:

"Opening this document will run the following SQL command"

I never used to get this come up. When I select "yes" I get the following error:

"Error has occured: Catastrophic failure:"

When I select "no" the document opens which is ok.

However, if I go to mailings--->start mailmerge--->step by step mail merge wizzard. This is ok but when it comes time to select the datasource I get the problem.

I select "Use existing list" ----> "browse" then navigate to the excel file I want to merge. When I click on the excel file it appears to not recognise the document type. By this I mean that when I click on the excel file nothing displays in the "File Name" box. This happens even if I change the "Files of Type" box to all files.

If I double click the file I want I get the following error:

"Error has occured: Catastrophic failure:"

I have had a few users complain about this, so maybe some one has some info.

If we have a press release in a Word document format, and we copy & paste the text into an Outlook e-mail, the formatting, in terms of size and font changes to Outlook's default. We've tried setting Outlook to RTF format, and then back to HTML format, to no avail. Is there a step or a trick I am missing, so we can copy from Word into Outlook, and maintain font and text size settings?

Answer:Word 2007 to Outlook 2007 Formatting

The default settings should maintain source formatting.

When I tried copying from Word 2007 to outlook 2007 the formatting stayed the same, but outlook doesn't have page breaks some of the text is layed out differently.

A few weeks ago I created a Visio diagram - a floor layout/seating plan. Everything worked fine.

Now I have returned to the diagram to make some adjustments, and the bizarrest thing has happened: I can't set the dimensions of my objects explicitly any more! When I right click on a shape (say a rectangle), instead of giving me the option to set the width and length, it gives me the dialog attached, which is utterly useless.

I tried rebooting, then I uninstalled/reinstalled Visio 2007. Nothing doing. The only way I have now to resize shapes is to drag their handles - which obviously is just not good enough.

Interestingly, walls still work: I can resize walls by entering their properties. But other shapes just do not work!

What has happened to my Visio? And how do I fix it?

Thanks!

If I select all the shapes in a Visio 2007 Pro drawing, then select all rows of External Data and drag them to the selected shapes, the data is linked to the shapes in reverse order, from right to left.

Does anyone know why this happens? Or, more to the point, does anyone know of a way to avoid this other than by individually selecting the shapes in order from left to right?

Thanks for any help or advice.

Hello,

I have attatched a picture of the value i am trying to capture as an integer in .vba
I have tried the following without succes:

(got both from google-ing)

Code:
Dim visApp As Visio.Application
Dim visShape As Visio.Shape
Dim visPage As Visio.Page

Set visApp = ThisDocument.Application
Set visPage = visApp.ActivePage
Set visShape = visPage.Shapes(strObject)

Code:
Dim shpObj As Visio.Shape

' show the linked record in the external data window
ShowSelectedObjectDataRecord visShape

Dim iRow As Integer
iRow = Visio.ActivePage.RowCount(Visio.visSectionProp)
So if anyone has any ideas how to capture the "Total Rows" into an integer i would be very grateful!

Is there anyway I can install these programs without uninstalling Office 2007??

I needed to free up space on my C: drive, so I attempted to uninstall Microsoft Vision Standard 2007 -- but the uninstallation would not work using Add/Remove Programs. So, I hastily used the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility to remove it, which is appears to have done to some extent.

Problem: The program is still appearing in the Add/Remove programs pane, and it won't allow me to uninstall from there.

I've tried reinstalling Visio from the disc, but receive this error right before it quits:
"Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2007 encountered a problem during setup."

I don't want the program anymore, I'm just trying to remove all traces of it from my computer without causing further damage.

When I run Microsoft Office Diagnostics, I got this result:Setup Diagnostic ? Missing media

My nephew got on my computer last night and guess what??? I now have a hijacker. It is similar to some other posts. I tried that but ran into a dead-end. The problem is:

My wallpaper is that big red bio-hazard symbol, the message "YOUR PRIVACY IS IN DANGER. DOWNLOAD PRIVACY PROTECTION SOFTWARE NOW" is displayed, and the desktop cannot be changed by right-clicking it (it has essentially become one big button surface).

Then after a while, ominous warnings appear concerning spyware and trojans. When I cancel those messages, IE automatically launches and goes to sites that try to get me to buy WinAntiVirus Pro 2007, Ultimate Cleaner, Ultimate Defender, etc.

I have a 3 year old Dell workstation running Win XP Home; Here is the HiJackThis log:

Hi, bradmcsd.

Welcome to TSG.

Your Java seems to be out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Note: In the event you already have Vundofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

Well i did a big report on my computer with Word Perfect i couldnt print it so i took to school on my flash drive. IN my first class i edited it on Word 2007 and in the class i could print it they had Word 2003 and i couldnt open my file and now i cant even open it in word perfect. I doubt i can use the laptops for a while anyway i can open this on wordperfect

Answer:Solved: Word Perfect- Word 2003 - word 2007

If you saved the file in the "new" Word 2007 format (with a file extension of .docx) then you will be unable to open it in the other applications.

For Word 2003 you can install a converter, but I know of no XLM converter for WordPerfect.

When using Word 2007 you need to "save as" Word 97-2003 format to retain backwards compatibility.

Hello, My computer here at work is infected. My IE consistently goes to ultimate cleaner 2007 website upon opening. Constantly crashes. I have a problem with shutting off my computer it stays on the "logging off" screen until I maually shut the system down.

I have ran "smitfraudexe" and it appeared to help but hasn't completely done the job, I believe I have alot more problems than it can fix.
When I tried to d/l Ad ware and spybot from your getting started topic. I have tried several times to d/l Ad ware from the links you have provided and IE crashes everytime. I was able to d/l Spybot off the link you provided but when I try to install it the install program crashes immediately.

My boot up time is extremely slow and I am constantly directed to the Ultimate Cleaner 2007 website.

This is my work computer and I fear getting in trouble by telling the Administrator even though I was not doing anything wrong on this computer. Like surfing pron or anything like that.

Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I got a copy of Office 2007 Ultimate from The Ultimate Steal which worked fine on XP and Vista 32-bit.

I try running the installer on Win7 64-bit but get the error "The installation of this package failed". The file is X12-30307.exe.

I try extracting it via cmd: X12-30307.exe /extract:Office2007. This works fine. I then run the setup file in the extracted folder and it starts fine (I can see it in the Task Manager) but it closes after a few seconds. I have tried running the file in compatibility mode but no luck.

Has anyone had the same issues or know why it doesn't work?
THanks.

Answer:Office 2007 Ultimate on Win 7 64-bit

I've had Office 07 Ultimate (from MSDN) installed on my Win7 systems for a long time now.
Have you checked the condition of teh CD/DVD?
Have you tried copying the CD/DVD to your desktop?
Have you tried running the installer in Compatibility Mode for ALL USERS using "Run as Windows Vista" and "Run as adminstrator"?

Hi,

I have encountered a virus/infection on my computer earlier this morning and I have no idea of how to get rid of it. I searched on the internet and found a SmitFraud file that should supposedly help, but after I had tried it several times, the virus didn't budge. I really need some help. The only thing I know about the virus is that it is called Ultimate Cleaner 2007. Thanks to any who reply.

So I bought a license for MS Office 2007 Ultimate during Microsoft's MS Office Ultimate Steal promotion a few years ago. I paid for the disc backup but never received it. So fast forward a few years and I have no way of using my license and re-install because I no longer have a backup and never received the disc. Does anyone have an extra disc they can sell me or give to me for free? I would even accept a copy or an iso if some one wants to give it to me for free. I am willing to pay a small fee for an actual copy of the disc if anyone can help please let me know. I hate having to go into the college and using their computer for cellular/microbiology post-lab write-ups.

I am hoping someone out there can help me read my really old files! Thank you!

I also have some old database files I need to run (not Access); but are Borland's Visual dBase Pro 5.5 or slightly older (1992 .dbf files). I actually have the CD-ROM for the Borland program. Do I dare install it? (The CD cover says it "supports Windows 95 & Windows 3.1, and the Crystal Info Report Builder program that goes with it). Or, is there a way to convert these to Access, and the old Word files to 2007 (without having to buy the 2010 ver of Word)?

Hi folks,

I have this problem that is hard to search for on Google. We have a lot of word 2000 documents connected to a simpel text data file (data.doc) that is used with mail merge.

Here is our process:
1.) data.doc is opened, filled with all variablenames we can use in our documents (name, country, etc.)
2.) data.doc is opened, filled with the actual data (from a database) belonging to the variables name (Kees, Japan, etc.)
3.) Our vb.net 2008 application does step 1 and 2, then starts a template word 2000 document which has that data.doc file attached for mail merge. The template is now filled in with the correct data.
4.) vb.net 2008 application tells MS Word to print the document.
5.) Works fine and we have ourselves a nice document filled in with data we specified in the vb.net 2008 application.

Now comes the problem, some new computers will have office 2007 instead of office 2000 installed, during testing we have encountered that it does not error but the office 2007 installed computer does not fill in the data and just shows mergefield names <<name>> <<country>>. Also when printed out. So it seems like the datafile is not connected when opening the template in word 2007.

If we let our vb.net 2008 application show us the document visually first, we can re-attach the data file again and we can print the data, however there are 3 thing wrong with this approach:

1.) More user input which is not needed.
2.) MS Word is opening and showing, somet... Read more

I recently installed Office 2007 on a new Vista 64 bit system. I was unable to install my previous version of WordPerfect Office 12. When using WP on my previous Windows XP system, I was able to go into the word processor, click open, go to the wp folder (where I kept all my documents) and do a search based on a particular word I was looking for. For example, I could type in the word "hebrew" in the files box and each document file that contained that word (not only in the file name but in the contents of the file) was listed. I could then preview the contents of each document file and open the one I wanted.

Does this feature work in Word 2007 under Vista 64? I have only been able to find a file name with the word I type, even though I know many other document files contain the word I type in the files box. This has been very frustrating because it means I have to preview every file to find the one I want rather than just the files with the typed word in its contents.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

Hi Billz

When you say you deleted Word 365 did you uninstall the entire Office 365 suite. I would think the apps are confused as you would still have so much of the Office suite installed. I would start there.

Then in this link is a tool to uninstall the 2007 components. Withe both removed I would then try the install again.

Windows Vista Home Premium SP1, Office 2007

I know how to save documents created in Word 2007 so it can be used with Word 2003 done manually.

Can someone inform me whether I can set my "save as" so documents created in Word 2007 will be always saved as default to be compatible with Word 2003?

Answer:Saving Documents Created in Word 2007 to be Compatible with Word 2003

You can us this compatibility update to read Office 2007 docs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) In earlier versions of Office - Download details: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. Meaning you can save your Word docs in their original format and Word 2003 will read them.

You might want to check this link out as well - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...444731033.aspx

As far as setting a "default" save, to be honest, I'm not sure if this can be done or not.

Hope this helps.

I just installed the Word Preview app from the store - it's fairly usable, but... when you open an existing docx file, it claims it is in an old file format, offers to save a copy in the newer format, or loads the file read-only. So it saves a copy as a docx file. Word 2007 can work with this file, but if you edit it and close it, opening with Word Preview gives the same file format warning.

Editing the file with Word Online does not have this effect.

Strange! Anyone else seen this? What sort of flag is it picking up in the Word 2007-edited file that makes it think it's an old format, even though it's docx? Whatever!

Answer:Word Preview docx format doesn't interoperate with Word 2007?

Word 2007 supported "Transitional" version of Microsoft Office XML document formats defined by ECMA from prior to the ISO standardization process. That process created small changes in the format that are not 100% compatible with the original ECMA release.

Hi,
Don't mind the curious ones, but I'm one of them. So anyway, almost one year ago now, the Word macro virus W97M/Marker.C was running rampant around Gordon College, with many teachers and students alike being infected. I was even infected with it thanks to one of my professors posting an assignment description document that had it. I was running AVG 9.0 at the time, and it was flagged many a time over. I think there were like six or so instances. My memory may be flaky, as my laptop has undergone many reformats since then, but what I do remember is trying to ignore AVG's warning, due to the fact that AVG has given me many false positives when I used it. The message Word gave me was that the document couldn't be opened because it wasn't available. But the strange part of that is that AVG had not removed anything from the file. I can think of two reasons why the file wouldn't run with the virus in it. Tell me which, if either, is correct. One is that Microsoft has since changed the macro format from 2003 and earlier versions of Word simply due to the many viruses that once existed for it, or two, that message was a very convoluted way of telling me that Windows 7 no longer supports Virtual device Drivers (*.vxd) as I was able to open the file after it had been cleaned up by Eset NOD32. Any knowledge you folks have would be very interesting, as I have always been curious about the very odd weekend of February 12, 2010. Now don't get me ... Read more

Answer:random curiosity about MS Word macro viruses and why (thank the Lord), they don't work in Word 2007/2010

I don't know the particulars of the macro virus you mention, but with Microsoft Office 2003, a significant change was implemented that effectively stopped the propagation of macro viruses.

Prior to Office 2003, macros were enabled by default, and opening a document with macros and auto-execute meant the macros were automatically executed (and thus the virus could infect and propagate).

With Office 2003, macro security was introduced. With a Microsoft Office 2003 default install, macros need to be signed with a certificate issued by a trusted root CA. Macros that are not signed will not be executed. Users have to explicitly lower the macro security level for unsigned macros to execute. Almost all macro viruses were unsigned.

This is one of the weirder things I've ever seen happening in MS-Word.

The file in question is a book manuscript that was created in Word 2007.  The individual who wrote the book happens to be blind, but is a friend of mine, and even she knew something was "off" without being able to see it.

She sent me a copy of the original .doc format file and also one in .docx format.   In both, the entire document has the text right justified, but, and here's the important part, Word is showing the document as left justified no matter where you place yourself in it.

If I do a select all, then hit the right justify button the entire document left justifies.

Since this manuscript will be submitted to a publisher it would be helpful if it were working as virtually every other MS-Word document works as far as justification goes.  Neither of us has ever encountered this before.

I figure that someone must have had this happen to them and probably knows what one must do to fix it.  Any and all assistance will be most appreciated.

Answer:Weird MS-Word Situation - File Created in Word 2007

@britechguy
I ran across a similar situation using Word '97 many moons ago. I had found and used a template which contained pre-formatted content that did not cooperate with the changes I wanted to make. This worked for me.
A word of caution as you probably already realize, you will lose all formatting of the original .doc / .docx so it may involve some work replicating the format of the original .doc / .docx.
Make sure your original .doc /.docx is saved

Open the original .doc / .docx
Open an instance of Windows Notepad
Copy/paste the text from the saved .doc / .docx into Windows Notepad.
Open a New blank Word Document
Copy/paste the text from Windows Notepad into the New Word Document
You should now have full control of your New Word Document
By saving the original, you can replicate the necessary changes (fonts, colors etc.) lost by copy / paste to Windows Notepad

Hope this helps

I need to find out if there is a way to copy all the macros I wrote and use in Word 2002 to Word 2007. I have both versions installed at the moment.

Also, is there a way to transfer settings such as all my auto correct, etc (although this is less important)

Barbara

Answer:Solved: How can I copy macros from Word 2002 to Word 2007?

Open the document(s) in question and press ALT + F11 to bring up your Visual Basic editor. On the left hand side of the VB editor is your project explorer window. In the project explorer window you will see a folder called "Modules" that you can open to show all the modules attached to the document. These modules is where you VBA code is stored. You can right click each module and selection the option to export to the location of your choice. Once exported you can copy or save them to another machine and then re-import them by openining the VB editor on the other compuer and choosing FILE >> IMPORT.

At my work we have templates from Word 2003.

When we open them in Word 2007 they doesn´t work as they should.

We have for example a menu like

2 Electronics
2.1 Phones
2.1.1 Mobile phones

When you make an uppdate on the menu the sub-numbers disapear so it is
2 Electronics
Phones
Mobile phones

Also in 2003 you get a menu to the right where you can change in the list not only the types but also the numbering. Is there something like that in 2007?

Answer:Making Word 2003 templates work in word 2007

A couple of things.

Firstly here is an interactive guide for some of the features in 2003 - 2007. It is useful in some circumstances
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/word/HA100744321033.aspx

In regards to using 2003 templates for 2007 - i noticed that not all things worked in the same way in 2007 especially when it came to printing (things would display differently to how they would print)

I work for a big company and i had to redesign alot of templates. Sorry.

In regards to changing the numbering, you now right click on one of the actual numbers within the document and you can change the numbering from there.

Hope that all makes sense.

I don't think so. Try installing OpenOffice.org 3.0 and you'll be able to open those files.

When I send some friends a password protected word document created in Word 2010 they can't open it using word 2007 which is compatible with docx by using the correct password. I have no choice but to send as a Word doc instead of docx so they can open it.

Word 2007 User 1: Word launches no password box no error messages just the blue screen.

Word 2007 User 2: Gets the error message: ?Word cannot open this file . The encryption type used is not available. Contact the author of the file. More encryption types are available in the High Encryption Pack.?

Therefore I suspect some kind of encryption pack must be installed. I believe the user 1 has XP and user 2 has Win 2000 pro. are using XP. Do you know where these encryption packs are available? The other possibility might be for me to reduce the encription level when I create a password protected docx but I have no idea how to do that.

Is there a solution to this problem?

Answer:Word 2007 Can't open encrypted docx from Word 2010

Hi Chris,

I've been looking at this for a while, but cannot find an answer.

The only thing I can come up with, is an alternate suggestion, which I am sure you have probably thought of : use something like 7ZIP to encrypt the file, and then send that to your friends.

7ZIP

Hi everyone! Sorry I get kind of nervous posting on forums. My question is:Can you have both word 2007 and word 2010 as seperate programs on the same computer?I really enjoy tinkering in word 2007 when I got it. Though today I did qualify for the college discounted microsoft package. Which lets a college student buy the Microfsot Office Professional Academic Package can be found:http://www.microsoft.com/student/office/en-us/default.aspxBefore I got into college I did buy microsoft word 2007. Now I have a new package installed and it got rid of the word 2007.The reason why I wanted to hold onto it is because I like to help out others with word 2007. Unless I can actually open it and use it to give out directions. A lot of people I know haven't upgraded because of the cost. I have installed MS Office Home and Student 2007 on my Dell Inspiron 1720 running Vista Home Premium. Previously I used MS Works that came pre-installed any e-mail with a Word attachment just opened when I clicked it.
Now when I get e-mails with any Word attachments I am unable to open the attachments without first saving them to the desk top, then opening Word 2007, then opening the document from the Word 2007 menu.
Similarly with all my old documents I have to go through the same long winded procedure to open them
Is there a simple way to cure this??. I'm not a tech whizz but if the cure is simple I can give it a go

Answer:office ultimate 2007 download

There is no place to legally download it. There is no legal HTTP download for the file because Microsoft never made Ultimate available. Not even to MVP's nor people with access to MSDN or TechNET. It was only Professional Plus that was available to us. Ultimate was only available if you purchased the product.

I do not own a fax mechine in my home.

I have written a document and filled in a PDF form and saved in my computer.

I have written my document in the Office Enterprise 2007-Word on my desktop that has Win 7 Ultimate x64 OS.

Is ther a free software that I could use to fax my document using my broadband connection directly from my computer to a destination that request my document & the PDF form?

Regards

Answer:How could I fax in office Enterprise 2007 &Win 7 Ultimate x64?

Fax (or facsimile as it stands) for uses A Fax Modem, so an old fashioned 56k PCI Fax/Modem can be used to send Faxs using Windows built in fax facilities (see the Fax device in Devices and Printers) which can be configured to use the Fax/Modem.

A less well known way is Fax over IP, which uses VOIP (Voice over IP facilities), so you could use a Skype account and an add-on called PamFax (Use Skype As a Fax Machine: Send a Fax from Computer).

The only other way it so Email the PDF to the user, FTP it to a FTP file server, or use a Instant Messaging utility such as Windows, MSN, Google or Yahoo chat to send it over your broadband network to another user.

I also have had a problem with my home page for Internet Explorer being changed to http://softwarereferral.com/jump.php?wmid=6010mid=MjI6Ojg5lid=2 even though I use Mozilla as my browser. My operating system is Windows XP and I've been using AVG, Ad-aware SE, and Spybot Search and Destroy. After I updated my AVG I picked up on several Trojan Horses: Trojan Horse BHO AM, Trojan Horse Downloader.Generic5.DGO, Trojan Horse Downloader.Generic5.DQZ, and Trojan Horse Downloader.Zlob.MBS. Like I said I'm a 1st time user so I don't know what other information I can give you to be of any help.

I getting ready to spring for 64 bit version of vista. But I have a question about office 2007 running with it. I gonna use the upgrade version of Vista. It will allow a fresh install and I already own multiple lics. Will the upgrade version of Office also allow a fresh install? I own multiple lics. for this suite also. It will greatly increase install times if I don't have to install the older versions first.

Answer:Vista Ultimate x64 with Office 2007?

I don't recall from when i installed it way back when, but I believe Office 2007 still has the "check media" option to verify that you're eligible to do a clean installation using the upgrade version. (Obviously, if anyone knows/remembers differently, please jump in.)

Thanks in advance!

Hi! I recently installed on my laptop (w/c is Windows vista home premium sp2) MS OFFICE ULTIMATE 2007. The problem is whenever I open MS office application such as MS word or excel, a "configuration setup" or whatever you may call it appears (check on the attached file). How can I get rid of this? Thanks!

Pretty basic for those that know but I've just bought discs for Office 2007 Ultimate and need some reassurance. Do I need to completely unistall my current OEM (Dell) Office Professional 2003 before I begin and (knowing my luck if it all goes pear-shaped) will I be able to painlessly re-intall the OEM if neccessary (I have discs). Does one then have to download years of updates from the MS site or how does that work? Sort of trying to know the pit-falls before I start as I'm pretty much alone in this. Much appreciate any advice. Cheers.

Answer:Installing Office 2007 Ultimate

There is a small bit of a problem when going from trial software to commercial versions, but that doesn't sound like your issue.

Going from any Office version to some newer version of Office should not be a problem, at all.

So, short answer, NO,
you should not have any issues in going from one version of Office to a newer version. All of your files will open just fine.

Even if you wanted to go from a trial version to a commercial or now-legal, paid-for version is not hard, as long as you follow the directions.

A COUPLE THINGS you may find different with Office 2007.
First is the new appearance of the controls. There is now the new "command ribbon" where all the old command selections now look different, and some things are moved. I don't like it, but I am slowly learning the new look.
I have read there is a way of shutting off the ribbon, to get back to the "old" way/look, but I haven't bothered. I want to learn what most people are going to suffer with.

Second) and this is the BIGGIE, all the files that you create are now going to be the new MS version of XML formated documents. That means your expected saves of ".DOC" and ".XLS" documents are now the new ".DOCX" and ".XLSX" file extensions.

You can change the default saving formats to be the old Office 97-2003 formats, if you want. Since the new .xxxX (X on the end) formats are unique to MS Office 2007, you might want to consider changing the... Read more

Hello whitebreadman1,Please download Combofix to your desktop.Doubleclick combo.exe to launch the application.Follow the prompts that will be displayed on the screen.Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang. When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
