Preferred Solution: Can not get Outook 2010 to work with hyperlinks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can not get Outook 2010 to work with hyperlinks

Save this page to your HD using SAVE AS and create a file name with the extension HTML.

Now go to the folder where you placed it and double click on the file name.

Does it open in your browser?

I have two problems with Outlook. I don't connect when I click on a hyperlink in an e-mail. And no pictures are displayed.

Answer:Outook 2003 Hyperlinks Fail

If hyperlinks are not working in Outlook or other Office applications:

Start the Internet Explorer
Select Tools / Internet Options
Click on Programs tab
Make sure that Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser is enabled
Click Reset Web Settings.

Click Start / Run / regsvr32 urlmon.dll

If that single change does not resolve the problem, repeat the process by running the following additional entries:
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

Afternoon to you all.I am using Outlook 2010. If I click a link contained in an e-mail I get the following message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Answer:Help using Outook 2010

If it is only that one Email, I would guess Outlook classes it as a security risk/virus/trogan and will not allow it.You could check the security settings (may be set too high)or if it is an attachment, you may have to save it first, before trying to open it.Terry

Here we go again - another problem with Outlook, but this time I think it is Yahoo UK (please note UK):

I have had 1 email acct with gmail and 2 email accts with Yahoo UK. They have worked fine until a few days ago. When I try send/receive one Yahoo account came up with error 0x800CCC92. I finally removed it and when I tried putting it in as new, the test message would not work. After repeated attempts, I now can send for some reason, but for receiving I get:

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR (AUTH) Incorrect username or password.

I can access my email on the web for that account with no problem. All of the settings are exactly the same as the Yahoo account that works and I still cannot get the incoming to work on this one.

Any ideas?

I am operating on Windows 7 OS and am having difficulty with Outlook for Office 2010. It always asks for a password each time I sign on and when I open an email. For some reason it doesn't store my password.

Answer:Outook 2010 always requires password

That problem is by no means unique to Outlook 2010, it happens also on Outlook 2007 and on the version before that, and neither is it unique to Windows 7.

Try putting your POP3 server name and password into the "Credential Manager" in Control Panel. For good measure I entered my email credentials twice -- in "Windows Credentials" and in "Generic Credentials". I hardly see that pesky password prompt since doing that.

I know there have been some posts going back over a year, but none of them fully solve this issue. For years, the best way to sync Outlook 2010(without corporate exchange server) to the windows phone has been to use the Google Calendar connector to get to their cloud and then onto the Windows phone. This had the advantage of doing two-way synchronization and working with the default calendar in Outlook (the existing .PST file).
Google fully discontinued this service on August 1. Microsoft does not have as simple a solution. The two options I've seen for cloud syncing are to use the Microsoft Hotmail Connector and to use Google App Sync. The Hotmail Connector does not work with the default Outlook profile which means than when an invitation is received from any email account other than hotmail/outlook.com it saves to the default calendar, and you then have to copy it to the hotmail calendar in order to sync. The Google App Sync requires a whole different profile with a migration which is an equally big headache or possibly greater. So, neither of these options work without making a lot of manual intervention.
I've been using a local sync program called CompanionLink to sync contacts, notes and tasks. It can sync the calendar but has a couple of disadvantages. 1) you need to manually sync calendar which is not good if constantly on the go and always want to have your appointments. 2) CompanionLink does not feed appointments into the native calendar so it won't appear on the loc... Answer:How to sync Outook 2010 (non-corporate) with Windows phone?

Frankly the best solution is to sign up for MS Office 365. The cheapest plan (Exchange Online) is $4 per month per user, so for $48/year, you'll get seamless sync of contacts, calendar, tasks, and if you choose, email and more, across Outlook and Windows Phone.
Not free, but works much better than Google's App Sync, the Hotmail Connector, and any of the local sync solutions, and it'll work great with any other devices you add in to sync with (since everything supports EAS).

Answer:hyperlinks in Excel 2010

I'm not 100% sure what you are trying to do, but I'll toss these 2 suggestions...1 - If you click and hold on a cell that contains a hyperlink you can edit it.2 - You can use the concatenation operator & to combine strings.=A1 & "_target="blank""You'll have to play with the quotes. I have Win7 64 bit and IE9 and Firefox loaded. When I click on a hyperlink within a trusted e-mail it says "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." I am the administrator but cannot get this to work. This has happened since I updated my IE a few months ago. I have tried the usual fixes but not registry key fixes as I try to leave them alone. Is that the only solution or is there something else out there? Should I remove IE9 and start over? I am currently experiencing an issue with hyperlinks in emails from outlook 2010. I believe the issue is with IE since the problem does not occur when I use Chrome Browser as my default. When I click a hyperlink in an Email outlook or IE adds a "/f" to the end of the URL. It only happens from Outlook -- Does not occur from MS Word and also only happens with IE. When I set Chrome as default browser it worked fine. Could someone please explain and assist. Thanks. Tim

I have scoured the Internet, tried a variety of things, but none have fixed an inability to open a hyperlink in Outlook 2010. I believe this started when I uninstalled Firefox and Adobe Acrobat Reader temporarily.

Upon clicking on a hyperlink in an e-mail in Outlook 2010, I get this error message.

"This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator".

Uninstalling, reinstalling, and changing default browsers (IE, Edge, Chrome, Firefox) does nothing. I am at wits end. ANY suggestions would be very welcome.

Notes: Opening hyperlinks from Outlook.com works fine. Outlook 2010 as in Office 2010 does not work.

Thank you.

We recently updated some office computers from XP to Windows 7.  Office 2010 was reinstalled and everything works fine, except that hyperlinks in Outlook won't go to the browser.  When I click on a hyperlink, I get " This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.  Please contact your system administrator."  I'm the one with administrator rights.  I know I've overlooked something in the setup somewhere but can't figure it out.  This is only an issue in Outlook.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

I'm sorry, it's Office 2007, not that there's much difference.

Answer:Outlook 2010-error with hyperlinks

The last time I dealt with this problem it was because Google Chrome had become installed, and was set to the default web browser, which alters the registry keys that Microsoft Office uses to determine what to do when you click a hyperlink in Outlook - I don't know if it's a bug, but if Outlook doesn't see Internet Explorer in these locations, it refuses to open the hyperlink.

You could try to set Internet Explorer to your default browser again (even if you didn't know it wasn't) - but that doesn't always work - you may need to uninstall the alternate web browser, and then go into the registry to manually fix the keys.

You can use the steps at this site to fix the registry entries - obviously when working with the registry you may want to may a restore point prior to starting, and of course backup the registry before making changes.

I am not sure if this is an Outlook problem or Google Maps problem.

Hi,
I have recently purchased Word 2010. My computer has Windows 7, and I use Ie8. However, when I attempt to open a hyperlink in Word/Excel etc, by using Ctrl+Click, i receive the error message:

this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on the computer, please contact your system administrator.

On the 3 other user profiles on the computer, there is no such problem with ie8, and when i changed to google chrome, the problem went away, but I wish to continue using ie8, and want to resolve this problem.

Thanks

Answer:Unable to follow hyperlinks, office 2010, ie8

Chris,
Let?s make sure that IE8 is set as Default Programs browsing, within the Control Panel? If not, please follow the steps below in order to do so.
?Click the Start Pearl, and select Control Panel
?Within Control Panel, click Programs
?Underneath Default Programs, select Set your default programs
?In the Programs list, highlight Internet Explorer and click Set this program as default
?Click OK
This should set Internet Explorer to open as the default for opening hyperlinks. Please let us know if this does not resolve your issue or if you have any other questions.

good luck

Hi everyone, first time long time. I am at a bit of an impasse with my spreadsheet. I've been looking everywhere and the best i can find for a solution to my problem browsing around is something like the following -

=HYPERLINK(VLOOKUP(P2,Sheet2!A:B,2,0),VLOOKUP(P2,Sheet2!A:B,2,0))

Unfortunately for me, i think it's only copying the text from the cell and not the file path also as i get a "cannot open specified file" error.

I was hoping there was some wisdom that would be able to assist in a work around for this

Answer:Excel 2010 using vlookup to retrieve hyperlinks to files

whats actually in that lookup -

To start off with, when I initially upgraded to W10 everything in Outlook worked perfectly fine. I could both open hyperlinks to Firefox (my default) and get instant search results as I typed. However, about 3 days ago I went to search and I got the notification: "Instant Search is not available when you have administrator permissions. please log out and login without administrator permissions." I had previously updated to insider build 10525 with no issues for several days prior to the notification, so this problem was out of left field with nothing changed to prompt the issue (as far as I can tell).

Through trial and error I discovered that opening Outlook from a shortcut anywhere other than the start menu would open it as an administrator even if that was unchecked in the compatibility tab of the properties menu. Only by opening it directly from the .exe in the explorer or from the start menu would it open not as an administrator. Doing this brought back the instant search functionality. However, running explicitly not as the administrator caused hyperlinks to stop working. I must right-click and "run as administrator" for that functionality.

Basically, if I run Outlook as an administrator I can open hyperlinks to my web browser, but the instant search is non-functional. If I make sure to not run as administrator, the instant search works perfectly but hyperlinks are broken again.

Hi, thanks in advance for your time. In the last few days, I have not been able to open links in Outlook 2010 when Chrome is my default browser. When I switch to IE to be my default browser, the links open just fine. But when Chrome is my default browser, I can see the links, I can "mouse over" them and see the URL displayed (with the "click to follow link" message appearing), but I can't follow the links. Even when I hit CRTL and click at the same time, I can't follow the links.

This operation was working fine recently. I have not changed Chrome at all, and I've been using it as my default browser for years. However, I have allowed Windows Update to install its recommended updates. That said, the last update that was installed was done on December 13, 2013, and my links were opening just fine after that date.

Thanks again for your help!

Hi, Welcome to Seven forums.

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \.html
Make sure that the value of the String (Default) is "htmlfile". If it's not "htmlfile", right-click (Default), click Modify, input htmlfile in the Value data box, and then click OK.

Exit Registry Editor.
And then check.

Hi,
a few weeks ago I reported that I couldn't open any hyperlinks in Outlook 2010 and some kind soul directed me in the way of Fixit 50388 which sorted it out. Or so I thought. A week later the problem was back and was fixed again and so on only now its twice a week ...and I'm getting tired of Mr Fixit.
Anyone got any idea why this is happening?
Even better got any idea how to stop it permanently?
To add a bit of confusion, once fixed, Outlook opens the hyperlinks in IE which I never use, and the system is set up for Firefox to be the default browser for everything. I can't find where to change the default for opening hyperlinks. It's a big problem for me because I use Lastpass to log into everything, and it's all set up for FF. If Outlook opens everything in IE then Lastpass is useless, or sometimes worse - it works so fast it sometimes has tried to log onto a site 3 times before I realise and pull its plug - by them I am shut out all together and have to resubscribe! Also most of my password sare ultrasecure gobbledygook which is fine for LP to remember, but if I have to input them by hand it takes ages and leads to mistakes.
Oh joy! I know I could transfer all the passwords over to IE also, (this is supposed to be automatic but doesn't work for me) but would be hideously tedious and open to a legion mistakes.)
So help please!
BB

RESOLVED: See second post, here.

Original Post:
I have looked around a little, but haven't seen anything specifically about this particular problem.

Windows 7 Enterprise x64
Office 2010
All latest MSUpdates, etc
This problem just started happening to me this afternoon.

Normally, when I open an e-mail that has a URL in it, Outlook displays that URL to me as a hyperlink. However, now they are just displaying as text, and to use them, I have to copy and paste into browser.

This is not an issue with hyperlinks not functioning properly. No error messages, nothing. The URLs simply aren't hyperlinks.
To be clear, the e-mails in question definitely have URLs that Outlook on another computer (at home) is still indeed displaying as hyperlinks....same e-mail....hyperlinks at home, but no longer here on my work computer.

I have not tried it yet on a different work computer (next step), but I did try it with a different 'profile' in Outlook, and got the same behavior (or lack of behavior).
It's not happening to all e-mails in all e-mail accounts. I have a bunch of e-mail accounts that I access through Outlook, and this problem is only happening to certain ones.

Example: I have at least 3 e-mail accounts on a single domain. This problem is happening to the e-mails in the inbox (and/or any other folder within that account) of two of these accounts, but not the other one.
Also, I notice that the e-mail messages this is happening to are all 'plain text'. Howev... Read more

Answer:Outlook 2010 - URLs no longer display as hyperlinks when reading mail

I figured it out.....and yep....it was something I did.

File
Options
Mail
Editor Options
AutoCorrect Options
AutoFormat tab
Replace
Internet and network paths with hyperlinks
For some reason, I was going through and turning off all kinds of autocorrect stuff (cause I hate that stuff), and didn't realize that this particular setting governed how e-mail gets displayed.

I thought since it was in the section called 'Editor Options' within the section called 'Compose messages', it was only relevant to what happens while composing new e-mails.

At any rate, I got it taken care of. :-)

Answer:why don't hyperlinks work

If you have made no significant changes to your pc in way of software a simple system restore prior to the problem should fix it:Type System Restore into the start menu search box, when the system restore option shows, click. Select the date you want (you may need to check the box that says "Show more restore points), select next and follow the prompts until you pc is rebooted.Documents, photos, media files etc aren't affected by performing a system restore.

Also some Pop-up stoppers might interfere. Usually pressing CTRL and clicking the link makes it work. Or Yahoo Companion. Uninstalling it solves the problem.

Edit....since you cannot get a link to open a window, clicking on these might be a problem. You could probably just right click and choose copy shortcut and then paste it into your existing window. Or manually type it in.

Using Microsoft IE: I can't "link" within web sites. I can connect to a web site and view certain elements of it, but when I click on a link, the "link box" will come up, ( it has "about:blank-Microsoft Internet Explorer" at the top of the new window) but nothing will appear in it and the "hour glass" symbol will appear and not go away until I close the "link box." The result is that I cannot complete transactions on most web sites. I am using Windows Me.
The following does not correct the problem:
Go to Start / Run
Then enter regsvr32 urlmon.dll
Click Ok when finished
If that single change does not resolve the problem, repeat the process by running the following additional entries:
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
Any help to solve this problem will be much appreciated. Thanks

Answer:hyperlinks don't work in IE

Here is a more complete list...

A) Start with the easiest and see if it works:
IE->Tools->Internet Options->Programs Tab.
Click Reset web settings button.

B) Temporarily disable anti-virus/firewall/popup blockers and toolbars. Including Yahoo! Companion, if you have that. Also Ad Watch from Ad Aware. If that solves the problem, isolate which program is causing it and change settings within that program.

C) One or more of the following DLLs might be improperly registered.

1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

5. Repeat, substituting each of these additional DLLs:
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

D) If that doesn't work:
For Windows version (Win 98/ME/2000/XP) - Download iefix:
http://www.winxptutor.com/download/iefix.zip

I'm using Win2K with OE 6.0. Got all the recent updates and when I did, hyperlinks could no longer be opened in my email.

I tried uninstalling, running adaware, checking for viruses, etc. I tried running regsvr32 urlmon.dll and it came up as succeeded, but it didn't fix it.

I even tried running sfc, but nothing happened. Didn't even get the sfc window.

Clicking on hybperlinks within emails doesn't result in anything; no error messages & no action of any kind. The problem recently started and is in both email clients I am using: MS Outlook & Mozilla Thunderbird. I have tested multiple links over several days. The linking ability simply went dead.

But when I go to the email using my ISP's email program over the internet, the links work fine.

OS Windows 2000, SP4

Mozilla Firefox version 1.0

Answer:Hyperlinks within emails don't work

If you click on a hyperlink in a web page and only a blank window appears,

Go to Start / Run
Then enter regsvr32 urlmon.dll
Click Ok when finished
If that single change does not resolve the problem, repeat the process by running regsrv32 with the following dll files.
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

There have been several instances where the previous tip using regsrv32 does not solve the problem with hyperlinks not working.
In this case try:

Open Internet Explorer
Go to Tools / Internet Options
Click on the Programs tab
Click on the Reset Web Settings button

Hello all. I'm a newbie member to the site. I've looked at other posts to solve my problem...especially:

http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/362459-solved-hyperlinks-wont-work-outlook.html

I am using Windows XP SP2 and Outlook 2000 (not Outlook Express). When I click on a link in an e-mail, it lauches IE fine, but if it is a hyperlink, it does nothing.

I've checked all the dll files and get the following error when entering the regsvr32 Mshtml.dll file: "dllregisterserver entry point was not found. The file cannot be registered."

I have reinstalled IE and have done all of the other fixes in the above link, including checking the folder types for their settings and they were okay.

Any ideas? Thx!

Now it may be different since this is PowerPoint 2004 for Mac (part of Office suite), but I would assume the problem could be on a PC too.

My wife has spent about 120 hours in a few days on a ppt file for work and whenever she creates a hyperlink to another slide, then saves and exits, the hyperlinks are ethier not there or linked to something else. Does anyone know why this is happening? I have tried looking at MS site but not found anything useful.

Edit: I found out that the problem with the links is that it says Empty String for the link when reopened. It did happen on a PC version too but the PC version was able to save the links when they were redone.

I know that this issue has been around a long time. And, I just want to be sure it hasn't been resolved or have a workaround.

Using Word 2011 for Mac, when I insert a hyperlink to a pdf page on the web, for example:

http://web2.acbl.org/documentLibrary/play/Commonly_Used_Conventions/jacobytransfers.pdf

it opens from the Word doc as HTML code gibberish. But, if I put the cursor in the URL field and click Enter, it reverts to the actual pdf.

I want to create a pdf doc from the Word doc. But, when I do so, none of the links work. So, I have to use a third-party app to individually re-enter each hyperlink.

I've read that I can open the Word doc in Pages, and the links will work. But, when I do that, I have some text style and formatting issues.

I can't use the TSG SysInfo because it is for Windows. I'm on an iMac running Lion.

I use Win XP/Home SP 2, on a computer with a 900 Mhz Celeron processor and 250 MB of RAM. I have Publisher 2002 installed on the computer.

Publsiher has a feature called "Insert hyperlink." When I use this feature, the URL in the Publisher file turns blue and is underlined, as you would expect. However the link doesn't work. That is, if you hover the mouse over the link, the cursor doesn't change to the "pointing finger," and the link does not activate whether you use "click" or "CTRL+click."

I searched this forum, but found no posts that talk about this topic. I also searched the Microsoft online help files. There was a discussion about broken links when the Publisher file is converted to a web page (no solution-just a "work around"), but no info on broken links in the Publisher file itself.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to make the hyperlinks work in a Publisher file?

Hi,

Sorry if this is a bit long but there's no other way to explain it unless I give the background...

My wife hadn't accessed her User account for some and found last week that no icons or taskbar would load up on boot, just the wallpaper.

When I tried it, I went to the taskmanager and found that explorer.exe was missing from the processes list. When I ran it manually as a new task from within task manager the PC booted up normally. Obviously though, every time I rebooted I had the same problem so I restored the system to an earlier date.

On first glance this seemed to do the trick. Apart from having to set up her email account in Mozilla Thunderbird again, it seemed to boot normally, then I tried to search from within Google, Altavista, Lycos and this is where the problem now lies...

I can enter text in the search-engine's text-entry field, but if i hit 'Enter' or click 'Go' (or in fact click any hyperlinks), nothing happens. The only HTML page I've found so far where I can search from within a text-entry field is that on the BBC homepage (http:\\www.bbc.co.uk) although why this should behave any differently is anyones guess.

To confuse things even more, I only get this problem in User Accounts, Google, Altavista (etc) work fine in my admin account. I've even tried deleting her user account and creating new ones, but they all have the same problem.

So what is this? Are my user accounts being corrupted as I create them or i... Read more

Hi there,I have created a word document (version 2003) which is being emailed to others who have access to the same drives as the hyperlink locations. When I create hyperlink and point to correct path/document it works OK on my PC, but when I attach document containing hyperlinks to an email my collegues can't open links. It says that item can't be found. When I view document on their PC and select "edit hyperlink" the hyperlink isn't looking in the correct path, it seems to be looking in one of their temp folders. When setting up hyperlink I open document I want to link to then open the hyperlink function and select recent item. Many thanks,

Answer:Hyperlinks don't work in MS Word document.

I think you've pretty much answered your own question. The hyperlink you're using is a path used by *your* machine to get to the document in question, so it won't work on any other machine. You need to provide a 'hard' link to the document i.e. drive\folder\document. I would tend to key it in rather than copying/pasting it.

My IE has suddenly started not following certain hyperlinks. It's fine when I click on most of them (including secure sites like PayPal), but some (secure or not) do not work. One website that I used to use regularly now doesn't go anywhere with the link, it just says "javascript:check_browser();" in the bottom left of the window. Another website works on the link, then presents a blank page with "Done" at bottom left. I'm amazed it has let me post this at all!I have, so far, tried to re-install a new version of IE from a cover disk (no change), reset the internet setttings, deleted all cookies, defragged, scanned and cleared my internet history.Any other ideas please? Thanks!

Answer:Internet Explorer - some hyperlinks don't work

If you had another browser installed you could decide if the fault was in I.E. or somewhere else.If you have a cover disc from which you have installed I.E. again then it probably also has Netscape, Opera and Mozilla on the disc. I have bothI.E.6 and Mozilla installed but tend to use the Mozilla browser more than I.E. because the latter gives me problems - like yours in fact. All these free browsers can be downloaded from this PCA website. Just look along the line for "downloads"

Hi, I have an odd issue with Office 2007. It started with links not being "clickable" in Outlook, but I now notice that links seem to not work in any Office application (no, this isn't the common security issue with links being blocked, nor the common IE not set as default browser issue).

When going to Insert > Hyperlink in any Office application, the hyperlink dialog box does not appear. Nothing. Clicking the button 1 time or 5 times results in nothing. The button can be pressed, but the dialog never opens, even after typing text and highlighting.

I have tried many things including Resetting IE Web Settings, reinstalling Office 2007, reinstalling IE 6 (we have to have this version here), reinstalling SP3 for XP.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks

Some of my emails contain hyperlinks which do not work when I click on them.

I am using Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0. I went to Microsoft's help site with this problem and the suggestion was this:

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Run dialog box, and then click OK:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

Repeat step 1 for each of the following commands:

regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll

I've run all of the above and it still has not corrected the problem. I've kept up with the updates through Microsoft and have found in the past that sometimes when you update, new problems pop up. Most of them for me have been with Outlook Express. I still haven't figured out what the problem is with retaining passwords since the program doesn't allow me to do that either.

Any suggestions?

This is caused by an incompatible version of a DLL. If you go to http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108188. Then download the mcrepair.exc. tool to your desktop & run it. This should fix the problem. If you have Microsoft Office 2000 or Office 2000 on your computer a Service release 1 will also fix the problem.

This is my first post. I'm not sure this is the right forum. I have a Dell Dimension E510, XP with service pack 2. I have DSL Siemens 4100 for my Internet with the AT&T Yahoo Browser (as well as Internet Explorer, which I never use). On December 15, I learned from email receipients that my hyperlink to My Briefcase did not work, that is, it displayed correctly but was "cold" or "dead." I can sent a hyperlink to myself and it will be "hot." But when I create one in an email, it is cold. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Yahoo Browser. AT&T Yahoo tech support has no further guidance. It is a minor annoyance that I do not wish to turn into a major headache by trying something over my head. I have no problem creating hyperlinks in Word. Can anyone suggest a fix that would be fairly simple? Or, could you tell me where the problem originates: email, browser, or computer? If computer, should I querry Microsoft or Dell? Thanks. Mark

My son crashed his laptop trying to upgrade from Vista to Microsoft 7. He went through customer-no-service and finally got his computer going. He uses Firefox (latest version) as his browser. The problem we're having is that; when using google (ore bing), we type in a subject to search for and it brings up all the hits. Each hit has the underlined (hyperlink/hypertext) topic, a brief description, and then the typed out link as the last line.If we click on the hyperlink, the page clears and tries to load the link, but that screen comes up blank, with the word "done" in the bottom left corner. If we click in the address bar, we get about 2 inches of colored line (instead of just the flashing cursor at the far left), like its trying to highlight the text, but nothing is there.I just ran hijack this and am posting to see if anyone can assist me with what can be safely removed. Obviously I gummed something up but I can't figure out what.

Ordinarily a link in an Outlook message went to a web site. This afternoon, clicking on a bunch of known to be valid links always brings up the Windows or Office dialog box "Look in My Documents" and it is looking for an Exe file.

Any idea what setting I hit to generate this result?

Answer:Solved: Outlook hyperlinks don't work

SOLVED. I won't bore anyone with the details because it could only happen with an advanced anal nerd.

Whenever I double-click on a hyperlink embedded in the body of an email, instead of opening the intended web-page, the SAVE AS dialog box appears and prompts me for a fille name to save the hyperlink as.

Even more interestingly, the SAVE AS dialog box sees the hyperlink as an executable file and not an HTML type file. Furthermore, even if I do assign it a files name, when I hit SAVE, nothing happens!

Any ideas ??

Thanks

Answer:Hyperlinks Won't Work in Outlook 2003

If IE is your default browser, check the file associations for the following.
Open Windows Explorer> Tools> Folder Options> File Types.
URL:File Transfer Protocol
URL:Gopher Protocol
URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol
URL:Hypertext Transfer protocol with Privacy
In each click the Advanced button. In the Actions box, click open, and then click Edit. In the Application Used To Perform Action box should have:
"c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe" including quotes.

Not sure if this is a Windows problem, Firefox problem or Thunderbird problem.
A while back clicking on a link to any website that appeared in an email to me did not automatically open Firefox and go to that website. If I opened Firefox and then went back to the email and clicked on it, I would go to the website, but Firefox had to be opened first.
Now, all of a sudden, that is not working. Even if Firefox is open and I click on a link in an email, it does not go to the website. I have to copy the link to the clipboard first, then paste the link into my web browser.
I have no idea why this happened. I have gone through my Firefox and Thunderbird options and don't see anything there.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Terry

Answer:Hyperlinks don't work in Thunderbird/Firefox

Hi Terry,

Did you set Firefox as your default browser? You can do that in Firefox but you want to set the system default too. Open the 'Program Access and Defaults' via the Start button or Control Panel and you can set both Firefox and Thunderbird as your default browser and mail client/news reader.

In Firefox it's - Tools > Options > Advanced > General > System Defaults.

Have you got any Link or Tab related extensions installed that could effect default behaviour like Tab Mix, Linky etc?

Hyperlinks on my BTYahoo Mail page do not work. A new tab is generated but is plain white. Using Windows 7 and freshly downloaded IE9. Have set IE as default browser but cannot find any other advice. I note that the problem was aired in Nov but no suggested solution. Hyperlinks outside of IE work fine. Would be grateful for any advice.

Answer:Hyperlinks in BTYahoo mail do not work

Problem solved by downloading Firefox and setting it as the default browser. The IE9/W7 combination on an ASUS desktop was definitely faulty and presumably Microsoft will sort out IE in due course.

Answer:internet browsing -clicking on hyperlinks not work

1. Quit all programs that are running. 2. Click Start, and then click Run. 3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dlland then click OK. 4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK. If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below): ? Shdocvw.dll ? Msjava.dll ? Actxprxy.dll ? Oleaut32.dll ? Mshtml.dll ? Browseui.dll ? Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

I have a couple of problems with my internet/email (Yahoo).

Problem 1
=======
My hyperlinks does not work. For example (see the attached file). When I go to my Yahoo email, I first get the message as shown in the attachment. It never redirects me, hence my alternative is to click on the hyperlink. However, when I click on the hyperlink then nothing happens. What I currently do as a workaround is use the back button to go back to the yahoo page and then I click on "mail" again to get me to my emails.

I know this is some setup problem with Tools --> Internet Options. I have tried almost everything on what people have recommended on enabling or disabling the options, but the problem has not been fixed.

Problem 2
=======
This just started happening since a week ago. I have rebooted my computer a couple of times just to see if this problem would go away, but it hasn't. The problem is that when I go to my Yahoo email, it takes literally 2 to 3 minutes to open an email message even if this is without any attachments. This is extremely slow and frustrating. I am not sure why this has become so slow and what can I do to fix it.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Regards,

Typhoonwinds

My Hyperlinks now longer work in Outlook Express. When I click on one, nothing happens. I have to right click on the hyperlink, choose Save As..., open my browser (Firefox, but problem is the same if my default is Internet Explorer), then paste the hyperlink address in the browser address bar.

Used to be, I could just click on the hyperlink (underlined) in my email and my browser would open and go to the hyperlink address.

Don't know what I did to change things, but like to get back to the proper way for things to work.

Answer:Hyperlinks in metro gui tiles doesnt work

Hello Cult, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Registry cleaners can really do some damage if they are allowed to delete the wrong items. In your case, you might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before you used the registry cleaner may be able to undo and fix this.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I'm new so maybe I am entering this in the wrong place. Hyperlinks in Outlook Express will no longer work for me. I believe that this happened when I switched from Mozilla Firefox back to Internet Explorer. I thought that this might be related to the problem that spec_r is experiancing.

HiI am trying to forward an email via Outlook 2003. The email has a number of hyperlinks that I wish the receipient of my forwarded mail to access. However as soon as I select forward the hyperlinks are lost and appear as text. The email format I'm using is HTML and have selected convert to HTML under Internet in options.Done a google and cant find solution and getting more than a little frustrated!thanks

Answer:Hyperlinks dont work in forwarded email

I know this is an issue if plain text is used, but this is clearly not so in your case. However, I have Outlook 2003 with the same settings as you. I have tested this by forwarding an existing e-mail with hyperlinks to myself. As you say, when you click on Forward, the link not longer works, but when the forwarded e-mail came through, the hyperlinks worked as normal.

I can no longer click on a hyperlink on my desktop or within a mail message in Outlook Express without getting the error message: "Windows cannot find Timbos.exe This program is needed for opening files of type 'URL:http Protocol'"

Hyperlinks within Internet Explorer work fine. I am reasonably sure that Timbos.exe is not a valid program. This problem just started after my son loaded AOL Instant messenger. I suspect a link there.

Could someone please help me to reestablish Internet Explorer as the default program for running http:\\ hyperlinks?

Some additional information: I tried going into Windows Explorer\Folder Options\File Types and found out that URL:http Protocol was not listed, so I tried adding it and listing Internet Explorer as the active program and that didn't work but I am not positive I did everything correctly.

Thanks in advance,

dtb

Answer:{SOLVED}Outlook Express 5.00 - Hyperlinks no longer work

If this were any other file extension, here's what I'd tell you to do. I'm not as familiar with this one and you may want to wait until someone "agrees" with me, but here's what I'd do.

Registry edit:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

Find the folders for HTTP and HTTPS and export them to your desktop (if this edit doesn't help, just double-click them on your desktop to put registry back the way it was; either way, delete from desktop when you're done/fixed). Then delete them. Then run Internet Explorer, which should re-register those file types. Then close IE, and try clicking on a hyperlink.

Ask for more info if you don't know how to do a registry edit! This is very important!

To fit a big flowchart onto a PowerPoint slide, I had to create a separate .PPT file in Portrait mode. I then created hyperlinks to navigate back and forth between the main (landscape) .PPT file and the portrait .PPT file. They work fine...on MY computer. When I send the two files for review, the reviewer gets a pop-up message (Cant find specified file) when he clicks on a hyperlink.

I explained that he needs to save the files to his desktop and put both files in a folder and open it from there, then go into Slideshow mode; he said he did, but the hyperlinks wont work. What can I do so the hyperlinks will work between these two files on other computers?
thanks!

Recently a customer of the company I work for did some upgrade to their system (not exactly sure what). The result is that when they send a mail containing a hyperlink to file on their website, the link doesn't work.
When you hover over the link you should get something like 'https//thiscompany.com/page.do?DOCID=123456'.
However, what we actually get on Outlook 2003 is 'outbind://39-00000000C176F3FF67E6754394476777057BDCA60700071475F5FEB9AC4FABB3D7C8EE9381620000007059

On mac mail it looks like this 'x-msg://24/thiscompany.com/page.do?DOCID=123456'.

The links work fine on Outlook 2010. Any idea what's happening here?

I've just upgraded to Outlook 2010, and now I find that links in emails I send and receive are not "hot." I aways message in Plain Text format because much of my emailing is done on Plain-Text-only mailing lists. Switching to HTML format is not an option.

How can I get Outlook 2010 make hyperlinks in email messages "hot"?

Diana

Win7 Ultimate (64)
Office 2010 (32)
Browser: IE8

Answer:Outlook 2010 hyperlinks in email "cold"

This is how it works in Outlook 2007 - hope it is valid for Outlook 2010 also.
Click "New" to start a new email message
Click the Office Orb (top left)
Click on "Editor Options" (bottom right)
Click "Proofing"
Click "AutoCorrect Options..."
Under "Replace", ensure that "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" is checked
When you type a link into your plain text email, make sure you hit Space or Enter after the link to force it to go hot
However, in my experience, links in plain text emails do have a habit of sometimes going cold again when the message is sent, and I haven't found a fix for that - I assume it is something to do with the recipient's setup.

Anyway, hope this helps

I have been used to using Word 97, but the company has upgraded me to 2003. I am using the Print Layout to create my documents, and when I create a hyperlink, the hyperlink shows up in underlined blue, but it won't work. It will work if I view the document in Reading Layout, but that doesn't do me any good, since that layout does'nt look anything like the Print Layout. Can anyone make any suggestions?

Answer:Solved: Word 2003 - Hyperlinks don't work in Print Layout

It works.
It's just that Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, decided to make us Ctrl+Click for a hyperlink.

Otherwise, you can change the setting on your PC to NOT require the Ctrl key.
Tools-Options-Edit tab. Second checkbox on the right...

And don't you just LOVE that Reading Layout feature?
