Windows Update fail, Error 80070005, Access Denied

Question: Windows Update fail, Error 80070005, Access Denied

Wanted to report to the world that I was getting this failure during automatic updates for Windows XP Home edition.

After a day of trying to follow the Microsoft suggestions, I finally tried to execute the individual updates manually. When doing so, I had an error copying the file c:\.....\branches.inf.

I found a post on this site by MOXYLL (http://www.techsupportforum.com/show...t=branches.inf) in which she suggested changing the following file to read/write from read only:
c:\windows\inf\branches.inf.

Guess what?!?! It worked!! All my Windows Update failures went away.

Now if I could somehow reclaim my day! ... ARGH!

Hope this helps some frantic frustrated person out there!

Best,
Dan

Preferred Solution: Windows Update fail, Error 80070005, Access Denied

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

I've been trying to install the Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I am able to install it, but after I restart my computer, Windows attempts to configure the Service Pack and then fails causing it the system to revert. Once the desktop appears, I see a window that says the configuration failed with error code 80070005. I am still able to get to my desktop and operate as normal, but no Service Pack is installed.

I've tried some of the main troubleshooting options: Used the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT), ran a sfc /scannow (no problems), removed temporary internet files, ran Microsoft Hotfix, disabled antivirus and firewalls during installation and configuration.

Here are some notes that may help with diagnostics:

I have 25.6 Gigs available on C:\Windows drive. Partitioned drive.

I recently changed everything (CPU, Mobo, VGU, Mem) on this PC (although looking at the history, I've never had service pack 1 installed).

Attachments:

Attached are the shortened CB Log (I think it captures the errors that occurred during configuration) and a screenshot of my Windows Update history.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi family.

I have two backup programs that I use to backup various files. My problem is with Outlook.pst. This is a new issue for me, it has never happened before.

When trying to backup Outlook.pst with alwaysync I am now getting error API call error, Access is denied. 80070005
I am getting the same error now with my Outlook 2016 backup plugin , the plugin works but hits the denied error. This tells me it is something other than the software or the plugin. I don't know if it is maybe a win defender issue or what it may be, I am stumped.
I have checked permissions for both the outlook.pst file and the default folder it sits in documents/outlook files/
I have full permissions with both.

Anyone have any idea why this may have all of a sudden started? I'd be ever so grateful.

Win 10 64 up to date/Office 2016 up to date.

cheers

The problem I am running into is windows had to be repaired. In the task bar is a blue star that reads "this versions of windows xp is no longer up to date". When I try to update to SP2 it will go almost to the end and give me a error 0x 80070005 access denied. Then it reads "installation didnt complete windows xp has been partually updated & may not work properely". Then it reverts back to where I started and uninstalls everything. I am log on as the adm. I have tried downloading the file as well and get the same error. Looked on windows site but nothing they had has helped. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Can't update to SP2 "access denied 0x 80070005"

Hi

I have never been able to get any Windows Updates, since I purchased my PC. I have tried two different anti-virus programs (currently on Virgin Media's) and have tried various 'fixes' I have found by googling the error code above.

Nothing has worked so far. It would be great if someone could help, as my PC continues to get more and more out of date.

Thanks

Hi all,

I've been having a really difficult time getting IE 11 to install. I'm trying to install it to a virtual machine to test how well it works on our network but have been getting an 80070005 error from windows update and if I try and download the installer and run it manually I get "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I've tried resetting permissions via the SubinACL program as detailed in these threads:

windows update error 80070005

Windows update Error 0x80070005 - Need a fix? Click here. - Microsoft Community

I've also tried Microsoft's own Fix-it tool for resetting the Windows update components but that actually came back saying it couldn't find any problems, also run sfc /scannow multiple times with no effect. As a last ditch effort I did a fresh install of windows to the VM, spent the whole day updating only to hit the same error when it gets to IE 11. All other updates installed fine and I can install other programs fine as well, it's literally just IE 11 that refuses to install. Currently running the System Update Readiness tool to see if that helps, will update when it's finished.

Any help would be much appreciated.

*UPDATE*

No dice, still getting the 80070005 error. Attached is the CBS logs.

Hello,
When I run WindowsUpdate, I get the following:

- upon opening the page, a yellow exclamation mark in a triangle box...asks me to check for updates
- it looks for updates for about 3 seconds then tells me I have Error Code 80070005.

I've tried Googling only leading me to forums without a definitive answer. I also tried a MS Knowledgebase article about DCOM permissions or something and also tried re-registering some dll's as well as stopping & restarting BITS and WUAUSERV.

According to the windowsupdate.log file, this started yesterday.

I also attached today's windowsupdate.log file. Any ideas?

Thank you!

Hi,

I installed Windows Vista Service Pack 2 sometime around the beginning of the month, and somewhere about that time I noticed that Windows Update stopped working. Whenever I check for updates, I get the following: Error Code 80070005.

I've tried some solutions I've found using Google and tried one I found from a while back using the search feature on this website, but no dice.

Is this another Windows Vista SP 2 problem...or something else.

Thanks,
Michael

Hi everyone,

The system attempts to install the KB3033929 update, then reboot and revert changes.

I tried to follow the general instructions on Windows Update problems but none of the steps worked.

So I upload the CBS log by splitting the .zip file into three parts with the aid of HJsplit. Just rename CBS<n>.zip to CBS.zip.00<n> before joining them. I wait for your kind help

Since I bought my computer (Sept. 07), Windows Update worked fine, until a few days ago. Now, when I try to download the two files I desperately need (sound drivers so that the sound works and graphic card drivers so that my screen can return to its default resolution) I get two errors: Error 80070005 and 800F0203. Well?

Edit: Just if anyone asks, I deleted AVG Free/Norton and turned off Windows Firewall. There's no AV software (that I know of) that could interfere with Windows Update.

Answer:Windows Update Error 80070005 and 800F0203

Hi,
I hope al the 80070005 sufferrers are still reading this thread.
If disabling virus scan does not solve the problem then try the following.
The problem does have to do with corrupted permissions in the registry.
Here are the steps to follow:
In Scanning process, we can use Permission Reset Tool in TC.
1. Please download the subinacl.msi file from the following link and save the installation patch onto the Desktop:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en#AffinityDownloads

2. Please go to the Desktop and double click the downloaded file.
3. Please select the C:\Windows\System32 folder as the Destination Folder during the installation. Later we will use this tool to reset the permission settings on the current machine.
4. Click the "Start" Button, in the "Start Search" bar, type: "notepad" (without quotes) and press Enter.
5. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad window:

@echo off

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f

Hi so whilst trying to do windows 7 updates i keep getting error code this error code:

error code 80070005, windows update has encountered an unknown error, Windows cant update important files and services while the system is using them. save any open files and the restart the computer.

I have no files open whilst the updates are running so im not sure why the last part of the message comes up.

It should be noted that recently my pc has been unable to recognise any external devices like phones and cameras and my pc has no malware or virus as stated in my other forum post about this issue with external devices.

coming back to this main issue though, does anyone know how this can be resolved?

PC: Gateway dx4860
OS: Windows 7 64 bit Service Pack 1

I have been trying all day to install the windows 7 SP1 platform update (kb2670838). When I restart my computer to finalize the update, it will get to 98% then say "Failed configuring windows update. Reverting changes". Checking the windows update history tells me it failed due to error 80070005, which googling says it is a permissions error. The reason I don't just forget about the update is because some games require it to be installed.

Things I have tried:

Windows update troubleshooter, which claimed it fixed 80070005 but didn't really do anything

Turning windows firewall and antivirus off

Installing in a clean boot slate

Running subinacl with the instructions in this microsoft support page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/968003

Manually resetting windows update components

Contemplating suicide

Scanning with Microsoft Safety Scanner, no files infected.

Also, I've been installing it manually from the microsoft website. When I try to use windows update, it hangs on 0% downloading, or most recently "Checking for Updates". I think this is related to the cause of 80070005.

I have spent the better portion of yesterday and today trying to figure out a couple of issues that I'v had and this is the only one remaining but I haven't been able to get it fixed.

I have tried the Windows Update Troubleshooter,

I have tried CMD: sfc /scannow – did not find any integrity violations,
I have tried CMD: CHKDSK C: /R, as well as Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool.

First, let me start by saying I had another error before (80080005), but then I followed various guides from Google (maybe not the wisest place to look, I admit), but it did lead me to this topic, which is how I found this forum.

Current steps I've taken:
- Stopping Windows Update service, renaming the SoftwareDistribution in C:\Windows, starting Windows Update service again. I believe stopped the 80080005 error from popping but now Windows Update just sits there... and Checks for Updates forever.
- So I've run the WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab, which is where I got the error 80070005.
- After many unsuccessful attempts to remove the error using two different methods, there came this page, which I've used before and may have caused some further breakage. I went down the list UNTIL I reached the reset winsocks thing which caused me to restart and such.Several dll's either failed to load or had an error similar to "mshtml.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found" My list looked somewhat similar to the link's.

This is where you lot come in. I came here, ran System Update Readiness Tool (completed rather swiftly... five minutes-ish?)... then WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab again and I THINK it resolved a lot of those DLLs since it came up with more errors? But I can't be sure.

But... I apologize for the messy formatting here. I've been trying to put everything I can here for you guys, but it may just have ended up as word vom... Read more

Hey guys, I am having some problems here on my girlfriends laptop (Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit) and believe it may be infected with ?zeroaccess?. Her work computer had a virus on it last week, and she uses her personal laptop to connect to that work computer when she?s out of the office (she uses onboard remote by Adaptive Solutions to connect). We cannot run Microsoft security essentials anymore (access denied) and cannot update (windows update error code 80070005). I downloaded and ran TDSkiller, but it did not show any viruses. I did do a scan with that Farbar and attached the 2 reports. Any help ID'ing what is going on would be greatly appreciated!

Update: Still working the issue, but decided to take the hard drive out, connect it to another computer via USB cables, and do a complete scan of the HD. As soon as I started the scan it already notified me that the preliminary scan found malicious and possibly unwanted software, but did not report what they were. Will update with results (looks like it?s going to take hours).

Answer:Possible Zeroaccess infection: denied access to MSE, update error

Looking at the log it is infact ZeroAccess . Well you started scanning the hard drive as a USB drive lets see what the results will be , what antivirus are you scanning with ?

Good morning,I have a system that has had numerous issues, mainly virus related. I have cleaned the system, and show no virus activity... but I'm still having issues.Late last week the system was stuck in a loop, it wouldn't boot to Windows at all (no safe mode, no normal mode). I resorted to a Windows repair from the install disk. It worked... to a certain degree. I am now able to get into Windows, but can not open IE and I can not install a display driver.I am unable to access Windows Update, but was able to set automatic updates to install lots of updates including SP3, but I am still unable to make any changes.Initially when I attempted to open IE I would get a window saying that IE had to close instantly. I attempted to reinstall IE, and I attempted to install a newer version of IE. Neither worked. If I chose to install the updates with the install I would get an access denied error, if I chose not to install the updates with the install it would look like it worked, but now when I click on IE I get "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\System32\inetcpl.cpl. The operating system cannot run %1"In device manager, I have no drivers installed on my display adapter. If I try to update it, it looks like it's going to install... but then I get "Cannot install the hardware. Access is Denied".Any assistance or insight into this would be appreciated.

Answer:Unable to access IE, access denied when updating display drivers, no windows update

On any system with a number of issues...it's often better to do a clean install to wipe the slate clean, rather than hope that you have patched all known and unknown issues, IMO.

3 computers, desktop running Ultimate and backing up to AC-powered external drive and 2 laptops running Professional and back up to USB-powered external drives.. Backups set for full data and included system image for all 3..

No problem with desktop (which backs up daily), but unable to successfully back up either laptop since Windows Update installed SP-1. Fails as below:

Error: 0x80070005 - Access denied

Both laptops were set to run backups once a week (since the external drives are not plugged in at all times).. and, never had a problem with the backups failing before..

No changes were made before or after SP-1, checked permissions, all set to Full Control, log in as Administrator with UAC off (only one using the computers).. Ran chkdsk on both laptops and both external drives and no problems found.. Ran sfc /scannow and also clean for both..

Tried disabling all non-Microsoft services except for anti-virus and bluetooth (mouse is bluetooth) on one laptop and backup still failed with the same error.. Seems to get to approx 97% - 99% before it fails..

Have found older posts referecing making sure the D: drive is not set for backup or system restore.. Have never used it, backups have always been to the external drives (L: on one laptop and H: on the other).

Other than a problem with the fingerprint reader on 1 laptop after the SP-1 update (had to go back and install the original HP driver), SP-1 seems to be fine and do not really want to un-install.. Not sure if I even... Read more

I moved a bunch of files off of my main computer, onto an external drive. But after doing that (and doing some rough spot-checking that the files work after copying) I'm also making zip archives, so when I have to move from external to external drive it won't take as long, and I won't have to worry about individual file copying fails....

While trying to compress some of those folders (other folders created the same way work just fine) 7zip gives me a diagnostic error: "WARNING: Access is denied." with some box after that?

I've looked online, and the only suggestion I saw was to change the ownership of the directory (I'm running XP), so I followed instructions to do that, and it appeared that that worked. Deleted the old zip archive, and tried re-compressing... and I get the same error.

So, is there some way to figure out why 'access is denied'? What should I be looking at, to try and figure out how to fix?

Answer:7zip compression fail; 'access is denied'

precisely how did the file get to the J: drive?
and what was the original source location of the \Web_2012-06-13?
what user owned that folder?

Hi all

I've been installing Windows updates and have come across error 80070005 on update KB2975719. After research, Microsoft say it could be down to permissions (I am the only user on this computer and am the admin), they also suggest creating a .bat script (details here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com...error-80070005) which have not actually worked for me at all, I have disabled my AV and tried to install it but no luck what so ever. I believe it has downloaded to my computer, just not able to install it.

I have recently used Encryption File System from Windows accidentally on the C:/Users directory, which I have since decrypted (Other updates have been installed while this has been encrypted no problem), Although it's decrypted etc I still am unable to get it to work.

Edit: Just downloaded and installed the February updates and restarted with no problem what so ever, it still seems that KB2975719 doesn't want to install though.

This may be old hat but is there a simple solution to the above error message?
The OS is Vista HP.
The user has admin rights.
Tried activating the hidden adminstrator through the CMD prompt (net user admini* /active:yes etc)
Tried renaming the software distribution folder.
Machine is a Dell laptop so the OS is preinstalled. Reluctant to reinstall OS and then reinstall programs/setting etc if the error is within the OS itself and would be replicated from the recovery partition.
The machine works fine so if it ain't that broke......
Any ideas would be welcome.

I have been trying to resolve this issue since Friday with no great progress.

The main issue is that a program on the laptop needs the Background Intelligent Transfer Service set to Automatic start, however when you try to change this setting, I get an Access Denied error (Error 5), I also get a similar access denied error when trying to manually start the service.

I have done the following 'general fixes' with no success; chkdsk /r, sfc /scannow, windows update repair tool and windows repair.
Other things I've tried:

Setting permissions in the registry for the BITS entries to give full access using the user's account.
Setting a password on the Administrator account.
Repairing BITS using guide on another forum.
Start the service from Administrator account (in safe-mode) and new Temp account (with admin rights).
Precautionary virus & spyware scan as I've read that Vundo virus can cause problems like this, albeit not found.
Other information that may help:

I get the same error on the Automatic Updates service.
I noticed corruption on the Path to Executable:, where instead of reading %SystemRoot% it read %fystemRoot%, although I fixed these entries in Regedit.
When going into Safe-Mode it logs straight in to the user created account instead of normally asking at logon screen which account to login with (Administrator account not in list, but does exist)
Similar to above when I created the Temp account, it logged straight in to the main user ac... Read more

hi,
one day, I suddenly cannot watch videos nor play video games
I also lost aero effect

my video card had problems
windows told me that to solve the problem, I need to update WDDM
so I tried to install "Intel Corperation - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter1.3 - Intel(R) HD Graphics4000"

but error 80070005 appeared

I have tried using Subinacl to solve this but it did not work

I have also been told to run Registry Editor but there are so many folders that I did not know which one to change permission, and I don't even know for sure if this will solve my problem

so someone please help me with this.

Answer:update WDDM error code 80070005

The 005 error code can mean different things in different places - and it's best not to fiddle with permissions anyhow.
Let's have a general look at the system and see if we get a clue as to what's going on...
First, please run the BSOD info tool and post the log produced here. Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

This has been an issue that's been ongoing for months. Here are the two updates that never seem to want to work:

MS11-039: Description of the security update for the .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2: June 14, 2011

MS11-044: Description of the security update for the .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2: June 14, 2011

I've restarted on several occasions. It used to be one update, then it became two. The updates would sit there and act like they had been installed. My computer would tell me to restart. When I restarted, the same two updates would still be there. So the other day, I went and uninstalled all my .NET Framework updates and decided just to let Windows Update reinstall them. Bam, 30 new updates. So I let it run for a few days and I come in this morning. There are 3 new updates. One manages to install and the two same blasted ones are still there.

Here's a little bit what my update history looks like: wuapp FAIL

Now I want to mention though, that I'm on a shared network and typically, our server handles all of the updates. I've heard that alone could be an issue, but I have yet to see a solution based on that. I would be fine living without two updates if they weren't "Important" updates and were blocking me from installing any updates after 6/15/11... Read more

Answer:.NET Framework Update Failure. Error 80070005.

Hello ConureDelSol and welcome to Seven Forums.

Try re-setting and re-registering the Windows Update components. (See Option Two in this tutorial.)

Windows Update - Reset

After doing that try installing the updates from the hidden administrator account. (See Option Two in this tutorial.) I'd also temporarily disable your real-time AV in case it's causing a conflict. And, if you get more than, let's say, 5 updates to install, I'd do just 2 or 3 at a time.

I cannot check for updates, it says "Some settings are managed by your system administrator" and i dont have access to any settings, i am the admin and the only user of this computer. Also when i try to install updates and security fixes from Microsoft's website, every single update package gives me the error "This update does not apply to your system". I contacted Microsoft support for this and they sent me a hotfix that should fix this, but it didnt fix it. Is there a way to give me control over Windows Updates again ?

On the windowsupdate.com site, I get the message:

"Network Policy settings prevent you from using Windows Update to download and install updates on your computer."

I bought an older computer from my company that is now mine and am using like a home laptop. Running WIN2000, SP4. I am not the administrator, but I see under users/passwords that I belong to a group called administrators that has full capabilities on the machine? I believe I can get the password if I need to be logged in under the actual administrator, but my ID should be ok.

Anyone know what I need to do so I can change the network policy setting? I've searched other threads and although I saw some close problems, most were due to admin. rights. I believe I have admin. rights, so maybe I need to change something?

As posted earlier, I have encountered a serious problem accessing my hard drive and booting up Windows XP. I am running windows XP on a Dell 8400 dimension workstation. As mentioned in my previous posting I am getting the infamous blue screen of death with the error message 0x0000007B.I suspect that I am a victim of a virus . As suggested I ran a repair from a Windows CD recovery disk and it seemed to run okay and indicated that everything was fine however when I rebooted I still received the same old blue screen. . As mentioned in my previous post, Help Mode is of no help as the options all lead me back to the blue screen. Therefore I tried something different.

I booted up from the Windows Recovery CD and when prompted hit the letter R on the first screen which placed me into a C:\windows prompt. From there I was able to go to the root directory and I was able to list the folders that have my data in them. However when I attempted to open these folders I received an error message of "Access is denied" and could go no further. I checked the attributes on these directories and they are only showing an attribute of d=directory. I tried different things with the attrib command to see if I could get around the access problem but to no avail.

I ran a chkdsk /p and it came back indicating that there were no problems. I am running out of options and am quickly reaching the point where I am considering doing a complete reinstall of windows, however I don't want to lo... Read more

I have an Acer Aspire Ethos laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. SP1 is installed according to system properties (came installed).

Windows update was working fine until maybe June or May of this year.

I have tried a number of hotfixes, several microsoft fixit (automatic normal and aggressive runs), the sfc /scannow in admin CMD mode, and also uninstalled the last ten or so updates. I have also deleted the contents of the /Downloaded Installation Files/ within C:/Windows but that also did not fix the error.

Have also tried disabling my antivirus but that did not change anything, windows update will not self-update at all.

Nothing seems to work. Please help.

Hello. I have a folder share on my Windows 7 computer and I was trying to access it with a Windows XP Home computer in the house. However, I kept getting an "Access Denied" error whenever I tried to write to the folder. How can I fix this?

Also, sometimes when accessing .zip files and .exe fines from one XP Home computer to another XP Home computer, I get a "Unspecified security risk" and "Access denied" error respectively. How do I fix this?

Answer:Access Denied error when trying access Windows 7 folder from Windows XP

multiple levels of controls here

the XP needs the LLTP service from SP3 to be able to share w/ win7

there are two layers of access for share resources:

the network access
the NTFS access
The simplest solution is to use Simple Sharing and share via the All Users\Shared Documents\ directory. The Admin can set Allow Modifications (or not as needed),
which create the NTFS perms for the <Everyone> group.

So, *IF* you have network access (you can see the shared folder and it's contents),
then the NTFS permissions are the controlling factor.

IF not, the the network access is in control and you need to figure out Simple Sharing vs not-so-simple and those requirements

Been having a problem for some time now with updates failing. Error code is consistently 80070005. I seem to have permission problems .... I selected only the first update for installation when creating CBS log(s).
I ran SURT and it completed successfully.
I ran sfc /scannow and it completed with errors that it could not fix.
CBS zip is attached. Thank you for helping.

Y I would try a system restore mate if it were me and then set the updates to only install what you want and do them in small batches. Do that and if the problem starts again you may be able to ID the update and Hide it from updates. The do a restore again I know this is tedious but worth a try.

I've been offered the same 14 updates over and over. They fail to configure after reboot and are reverted. In the attached picture all show 800F0826 except for the one marked (that one is 80070005). I suspect permissions on the registry or filesystem are to blame.

I removed IE11 from my features a year ago when IE11 updates started to fail. I tried to add IE11 back,. but the updates still failed. I also tried turning IIS off in add remove features, but those got reverted.

Cleaned out Catroot2, CBS and WindowsUpdate.log in repair boot shell to get logs as clean and empty as possible. Not sure if that was a bad idea, but I got frustrated.
Reattempted update
Ran SubInACL* to grant access to the Adminstrators to registry and file system. Those logs are huge (3 GB plus and I don't have tools to parse them, plus I don't know where failure to set permissions are to be expected.
I ran latest SURT and got a clean CheckSUR log
SFC /scannow found no issues.

It's possible that it sees the new processor as a new system and since this is an OEM (System Builder) it isn't eligible to be moved to a new system. Or just the multiple hardware changes triggered an error.

You can try phone activation, and if it doesn't work the first time try again but talk to a person and explain that you had to replace your processor and other parts but it's the same motherboard.

I recently installed a new printer (Canon PIXMA MX922) and I cannot share the printer with other laptops because the Windows Firewall cannot be started. I went looking for help online and as a result I went into the dependency services and I encounter this roadblock. I don't know where the problem started, but several months ago I switched my antiviral from Avast free version to AVG subscription. I then thought I would install a free firewall so I tried both Comodo and Zone Alarm, but each one of those seemed to reek havoc on my system and I ended up doing a system restore to get things back to normal. I have also used Revo uninstaller (free version) to remove the residuals of these programs. I tried reinstalling the Windows Firewall but that did nothing. I have a Netgear N300 Router in front of the system. I would appreciate any help. I don't want to do a complete reformatting of the hard drive. Is there any way to fix this that isn't terribly complicated. I've looked at solutions that require going in and editing the registry but I am VERY hesitant to do this since I am a novice. Thank you all.

Welcome to SevenForums, Thor1207!

please use the following diagnostic tool. It has a powerful detection mechanism, and may help us get to the cause of your issues:

Please use the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool.
Download: Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Download
Select the version that applies to your system: 64-bit
Save it to your Desktop.
Double-click the downloaded file to run it.

When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
At the program's console, press the Scan button.

When done, the tool makes a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory from which the tool is run (Desktop).
>> Please provide the FRST.txt in your reply.

The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log: Addition.txt
>> Also post the Addition.txt in your reply.

Also, use the Farbar Service Scanner
Save to the Desktop

Double-click the downloaded file to run it.Make sure the following options are checked:Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender

Press: Scan
When done, FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.
Please provide the FSS.txt in your reply.

Ok, I've read alot of people are having this problem, unable to use Windows Update. Running Dell XPS M1330 on Vista Home Premium. Over the last couple weeks, this has happened and unable to get any updates. Tried re-naming Software Distribution and nothing. Got rid of Spybot and worked for one day. Then restored to 8/12, my last successful updates and worked for one day. Still the same problem. Anyone else have any ideas?

I was trying to upgrade to windows 8 Pro on my Lenovo G580, as I got my student license from my University. There started the problem, when trying to upgrade from the DVD (burnt ISO) the upgrade immediately sends "Setup failed to initialize the startup folder" error.

So after few searches, I found on lenovo website that I need to install all important updates first. That's where I found another problem, which is my thread about. I tried so many methods until I found this forum.

Few other problems I ran through while trying to fix it alone:
Updating seems like stuck at 0KB total, 0%, and returns the same error after a while.
Can't enter safe mode from F8, it gets stuck at some CPNP file while loading. However, I can enter the safe mode by choosing Safe Boot from Msconfig and restarting the system.
Running CHKDSK from CMD [Admin] gave "F Parameter not specified, running in read-only mode", and then runs normally.
Tried to download and install updates alone, they all fail when trying to install.
One of the times where the update readiness tool was running, my pc encountered BSoD. And once when I was scanning with malwarebytes.
SFC Scannow command scan returns that no violations in integrations where found.
Note: I just ran the SURT, it said installation successful after a while of running it!

Thanks in advance,

Rahmani

i got an alert saying i should enable '' security center '' so i go too msconfig and it says it is stopped, i then go too '' services '' and try to start it and it says '' error 5 access denied cannot start on local computer '' i use Windows 7 how do i resolve this?? i have tried everything, by the way this only happened after i downloaded and eventually uninstalled Microsoft security essentials, and i heard of someone else having almost exactly the same issues.

Answer:windows 7 error 5 access denied cannot open security center

What firewall do you have?

You said you uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials .... Why? Did it work? Did it disable Windows Defender (as it should have)?
Do you have another Anti-virus program running?

I have recently configured my AD PDC Windows 2008 Server to syncronize with time.windows.com. I am trying to get my AD Windows 7 Pro clients to sync with the server, however anytime I run w32tm /resync, net stop w32tm or net start w32tm I get an
Access Denied error on the client. I have tried it logged in as both the domain admin and the local admin. For some reason I can start and stop the W32 Time Service from the Services console, but it doesn't resync the time when it restarts. Why
am I being denied access when logged in as the domain administrator?

Answer:Windows 7 time sync returns Access Denied error

Hi,

Did you set any group policy to prevent client from changing the services?

I suggest you take the ownership of %WINDIR%\System32\W32TM.EXE, disable the security software and firewall on both side to check the result. Also re-configure the
group policy related to Windows Time Service and re-apply them.

In addition, I suggest contacting Server Forum to confirm with the issue.

Hi, my stepmothers laptop is currently running windows 7 with mcafee antivirus. Its not allowing the connection to the internet. Ive tried running the diagnostics and it brings up the firewall is preventing the internet. I went through and checked the ports and properties. Still no connection.

I did the services.msc and tried to actually stop and restart the windows firewall and it brings up Windows could not stop the Windows Firewall on Local Computer. Error 5: access denied.

She is the admin on this laptop and it seems to still have limited access to certain properties such as turning on and off the firewall. i tried shutting off mcafee's firewall and then getting into the windows firewall and still no luck.

I'm also wondering if the Software from the HP support assistant is causing some sort of confliction.

Answer:Windows Firewall/Mcafee Firewall_ Error 5: Access is Denied

There have been reported connectivity problems from McAfee users and the best solution is to fully uninstall it How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR) and this is the link for the MCPR and it's advocated that the tool is run twice after the uninstall via Progs and Features http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

You are also better off to leave it off and use something like MSE Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware as McAfee isn't the best of AVs.

I just upgraded legitimately to win10 yesterday but right before that with win7 I could not update my gtx750 gpu drivers. I keep getting this error mess. right from the start. (see pic) This has followed me over to win10. I was able to get my gtx750 working but still can't update it and I have no control panel either.

I am an admin, I have even tried creating a separate profile, to no avail. Have removed everything nvidia with gur3d and then I had only Basic Drivers, was able to get my gtx750 to be recognized but I have no idea what drivers are installed now because I have no Nvidia Control panel. Also my original driver disc won't install either.

I have been working with nvidia to no avail. If this is not the place for this issue, just let me know and I will continue with Nividia support.

Thanks.

Today Windows Update ran and failed with code 80070005. There was only one important update as seen below. I unsucessfully tried the following the fix the Windows update code 80070005 error:

1. Running the SubInAcl tool per KB968003. Windows Update still failed. Next I disable Norton Security and try again but Windows Update failed again.

2. Next I enable the Administrator account, switch user to Administrator and run Windows Update. This still failed. Next I disable Norton Security and try again but Windows Update failed again.

I have previously run Windows Update many times with no problems. What do I need to do to fix the issue?

Looks like this is fixed now. Unsure of what actually fixed it. I restarted my computer and it seems like it is installing some updates, so I waited and when windows starts again, I ran Windows Update and it asked me to install another update which I did but Windows came back and said update not needed. Just to be sure, Windows Update is working, I checked for updates again and this time, there are no more updates. So the original problem is mo more there and thus fixed.

Answer:Windows Update Fail [Error number: 0x80070424]

This is really something you should work in the Software Forum if your PC has already had all malware removed.

However try the below:

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below command at the command prompt and then hit the enter key.

%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL

Now look for the C:\MGlogs.zip file and attach it no matter what happened while doing the above.

If that does not help, try disabling protection software while updating. And if that still does not work, I suggest that you continue in the Software Forum.

Hey Guys,

I tried updating Windows 7 and got this Error: Code 9C47.
I then downloaded and tried to run SURT and it says -
'The following updates were not installed: Hotfix for Windows (KB947821)'
My cbs log is attached to this post.

Thanks for any help, appreciated.

Answer:Windows 7 Update Fail - Error Code 9C47

Odd - your SFC scan doesn't appear to have complete properly, either, although it does seem to have fixed one minor file error.

I have a suspicion I know what may be the problem - this may help isolate the cause....

Did the best I could reading the posting rules for the forum and the Update forums, but please let me know if there's anything else I need to do.

I attached a screenshot of the Update that has failed to load for months now and the error code it gave me (both are also in the post title).

I was unable to download the SURT as I didn't see the correct one for my system and I wouldn't want to download the wrong one. For this reason I attached a screenshot of my system spec.s so if I need this for you to help me, you can let me know which to download. Also following the links on the Update posting rules took me to this link: I'm fairly certain my system is x32 based (could be wrong) which I don't see as an option.
System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008

Also, I'm not sure it helps but I saw that someone had, had the same Update fail but with different error code. I doubt it helps but just in case here's a link to his thread:
KB2742599 won't install

I did not follow those directions, I just thought I'd mention that it had been on here before.

This has been a problem for a long time now that I've been ignoring and when I got annoyed with it I found this site. I followed all steps in the Update posting guide (except the aforementioned 1st) but let me know if there's any other information needed. Hopefully someone can help me out, thanks so much in advance!

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services
Then try updating and post the logs if it fails - which is shouldn't

Does the error message same as the below image.

If above message has been displayed then, you should know the fact that your hard drive failure is imminent and may die sooner or later. This means you could lose all of your data i suggest you backup your personal files to external drive. If the computer is in warranty, you can contact your computer manufacturer for assistance in replacing your hard disk with a new one when the Windows has detected a hard disk problem. You can check health SMART report of the hard disk drive and repair surface errors that are not mechanic errors with your hard disk drive manufacturer diagnostic tool. Follow the instructions at below url address link.

Answer:Security Center service cannot start on Windows 7: Error 5 Access Denied

Most third party security AV/AS software will disable Windows security software in favor of their own. This is normal. Using more than one anti-virus security program at one time is not recommended. They can interfere with each other giving you gaps in coverage, cause conflicts that lead to system crashes, and tend to slow your system down by using excessive resources. Pick one that you like and stick with it.

So I am having a rather unusual issue here....

I have been fixing up a computer which was loaded with malware/viruses. I have run the below software programs to help clean up the system:
- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
- Super Anti-Spyware
- HiJack This

After cleaning it up, I am running into one additional issue which is flagging my system as not being genuine

The system was purchased with a valid license key for Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

My thought here is that there is still some rootkit or rogue malware running which is preventing me access to this file. It is preventing access to other system files such as the hosts file, the ability to start/stop services through the services.msc console, etc.

Couple of things I have tried to resolve this:
- Microsoft support KB article 2008385 = https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2008385
- Disabled Plug N Play service within registry through CMD command
- Enabled Administrator account to attempt activation

After attempting these steps and performing a reboot, I am still unable to get around this unusual activation error. Please help!

I had trouble updating the MSE definitions a couple of days ago and I tried everything to get it to update, something about no connection. I gave up and uninstalled MSE completely using Revo. From Microsoft's web site, I downloaded and installed the newest version of MSE and the definitions updated just fine. Finally, the action center red flag is gone. However, a couple of days later, an alert comes back. This time, it's notifying me that Windows Security Center Service is turned off. With the Action Center open, I clicked "turn on now" but nothing happens, Security Center remains off.
I go to Run-services.msc and scroll down to Security Center and double click on it. Service status says "stopped". I click start and get the message, "Windows could not start the Security Center Service on local computer. Error 5: Access is denied.
This is all done from an administrator account.
Why wasn't I able to update MSE definitions and why, after a reinstall of a perfectly working MSE, am I now unable to turn on Security Center Services?

I can not start Windows Firewall, Diagnostic Policy Service, Diagnostic Service Host, or Diagnostic System Host. When I try and start them manually in services.msc, it gives me Error Code 5: Access denied. Both BFE and Windows Firewall Authorization driver are running. I am logged in as an administrator, and I have already allowed full control of these services for the Administrator accounts and the user "SYSTEM" in Regedit. If you need more information, please let me know. This is my first post, so I don't know if there is any other information that you need. Thanks!

Sony Windows 8 Refresh Caused Access Denied Error on C:\

I am creating this post as I found no working solution using Google.

First some background:

I was working with a customer machine infected with the FBI (Money Pack) virus. The computer was a Sony AIO with Windows 8, UEFI, and GPT. I was unable to run any programs in normal mode. I was also unable to open safe mode. In addition, due to the GPT file system, I was unable to pull the hard drive and scan it in another system. Furthermore, the computer would not boot from Hirens and a Windows install disk caused it to lockup. I was able to run System Restore, but it failed before completing.

Thus I tried the option labeled “System Refresh”.

System Refresh completed fairly quickly without error, and upon competition the virus pop-up was gone. Also the user’s desktop icons were intact. I found however that I could not access their personal folders. When I clicked on C:\ I was given a simple “Access Denied” message. To make matters worse, I could run a cmd prompt, but not an administrator cmd prompt. Task Manager would not load as well.

I did first try taking ownership of C:\ and resetting permissions but this made matters worse and I had to perform a second Refresh to undo that mess. The computer had only 1 user account and I could not verify the issue was related to the profile or not. Also, I could not create a new account as the Metro PC Settings menu was blocked as... Answer:Solved: Sony Windows 8 Refresh Caused Access Denied Error on C:\

If anyone knows how to solve this error PLEASE help. I have tried many different solutions from forums I've read online. None have fixed this issue.
First I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and I recently had a list of all installed updates, then I installed Vista SP1 and it installed correctly. Then after rebooting on the windows update screen it says no updates are installed on this computer.
Also I click check for updates and get the error 80057005.
As I said I have tried many solutions and none have worked.
What can I do to resolve this problem. I would like to install Vista SP2 so I can eventually install IE9. Right now I'm running IE7.
If anyone know howto solve this error please let me know.
Thank you.

Problem solved. Used the Microsoft Show/Hide Updates Troubleshooter tool. Why did I have to go looking for this? This is a useful part of Windows functionality... What were they thinking of removing it. then hiding the tool? (Rhetorical questions; I know why. Thank you Nanny Microsoft, but I'm a better programmer than most of your shiftless lot)

I keep getting Update Failed error with the following codes:

Code 800F0900 (unknown error)
Code 80073712 (unknown error)

The updates are for:
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB2879017)
and
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2882822)

I had the same issue with .Net Framework updates, but uninstalling with a .Net full removal tool then re-installing did the trick there.

So far I've tried manually installing the updates, running WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, running Tweaking.com Windows Repair (All in One), Microsoft FixIt. None of these have helped and am a loss.

I've included the CBS files as well as the SFCFix.txt to this post. Any suggestions on what to do next? Let me know if you need more info...

Thanks!

Ran Windows Update on wife's computer today (Biostar A75-MH mobo, AMD A8-3850, 8Gb DDR3-1600, 64Gb Samsung 830 SSD boot drive, Win7 x64) and upon restart it froze at 35% installing the updates. After it did nothing for 30 min I rebooted. It boots to the desktop but with an error box saying failed to load sortbls.nlp. Explorer isn't working, can run any programs, Start menu won't come up, just sits with the blue circle spinning. Tried to run system restore but the 11-15 one disappeared from the list when I tried to run it and now just shows the only restore point as Windows Update Critical Update from today which fails. Startup Repair says no problems.

Any suggestions?

Hi,
i have two computers, my main desktop and a laptop. For my work i sync my files between the two over my home network using Free File Sync (ffs).

For some reason ffs will sync across from my laptop to my desktop but not from my desktop to laptop. All the sync settings are set to copy both ways, ffs is running as admin and i am the only user of both computers so they are both running as admin.
I have set up homegroup between the two and i can easily copy any file type between both computers both ways. Permissions as far as i can tell are set to allow home groups, admins and all users.
But ffs still will only sync one way from my desktop to my laptop... any ideas? (i am given the: windows error code 5: access denied message whenever i click 'sync')

many thanks

Answer:Windows 7 error code 80070005

Since you recently apparently had some issues a couple of weeks ago with your Dell Vista 64-bit, MSE and Windows Firewall; the problem may have originated by some conflict (within the built-in Windows Defender program itself) since you evidently installed and/or were consequently using Comodo and/or Panda, as well.

A Possible Solution Here: Although the "title" of the following MSKB Article ID: 918355 does not include your error code; there actually is a portion is the article that talks about the error code 80070005 popup you keep getting on your Dell Vista, and that article offers a possible solution as to how to fix it.

You could also try clicking on the Microsoft Fix it popup "dialog box" which reads:
This troubleshooter: "Automatically diagnose and fix common problems with Windows Update" may automatically fix your problem. (btw, be sure to disable any pop-up blockers you may be using)

Hello! I am trying to fix up my cousin's computer and boy was it mess. There were loads of malware that I had to fix and a lot of stuff to clean. This laptop seems fine now, but there appears to be traces of the malware that has been left behind. It also appears Windows Update has not been run of over 2 years. YEESH. Anyways, upon launching WU, it will scan and give the error code 80070426. I tried to solve this problem myself by looking it up and they all say to go into Services and enable. Software Licensing. They all say to make sure it is set to automatic, which it is, and to start the service it is shows up at stopped. This is where the problem is. When trying to start the service, it says:"Windows could not start the Software Licensing service on Local Computer. Error 0x80070005: Access is denied." So now I'm wondering what to do. Can anyone help me out? edit: In case anyone was wondering, the AVP used is MSE and the last update to be suceeful on this laptop was Hotfix for Windows KB981889 which was done on 2/17/2012, which is odd since I do not remember running WU yesterday.***Mod Edit: Moved topic from Vista to Aii. ~bloopie***

On Windows7 Pro, trying to run IIS. The way I am used to execute is on the browser "localhost". I used to have the code in the directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot. Even before I copy, I am hoping to see

Hi,

I'm using Win 7 x64 and I've got a problem with KB2937610 and KB2972211 for a long time now.
Neither of them installs. Errorcode returned is 800B0100.
I tried a bit everything I normally do like installing the update directly from the knowledgebase but nothing seems to bite.
It looks like you have been succesful solving this for others so I hope you can help me.

Attached the CBS log folder. I had to remove some .cab files or it would have been to large but all log files are there.
Attachment 340490

I also run SFC /SCANNOW but that came up clean (no integrity violations).

Thank you in advance for your help

I think most of the file problems are related to a single update, so I'll try and post a fix some time tomorrow.

I started a thread here: "Unknown device" -can't find Nvidia

Apparently I'm not the only one with this issue, but we can't seem to figure out how to fix it.

The long and short is that my NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS is no longer recognized. I have tried installing the drivers from NVIDIA and from HP with no luck. When I reinstall, I get a message that an error was encountered during install and access is denied.
Looking for help. The laptop is under Best Buy warranty, so perhaps I should take it in as a warranty issue?

Answer:NVIDIA drivers fail to install: "access denied"

have you tried installing the drivers 'as admin' or from the hidden admin account ?

Answer:Windows 10 Install Error Code: 80070005

Hi,
There are a number of known installation problems for Win10 upgraders that don't correspond to publicly listed error codes.
It would be helpful if we knew the Make/Model of the computer you have the failed WinX attempt on, as well as the Build year if you know that too.

The main issue is what version of Windows did you attempt to upgrade FROM? Your post didn't say. Since we are missing this information, we will need it to further diagnose your problem. In the meantime, if your computer came with Win7/8/8.1 pre-loaded on it, you shouldn't have that problem, and most likely you'll simply need to download the FREE ISO file for WinX directly from Microsoft's website and install from there via cd/dvd or usb media.

If your computer hardware was built prior to 2006, and it's an XP-era computer that was upgraded to Win7/8/8.1 you'll never be able to get the Win10 upgrade. That's one of the reasons I'm asking you these questions.

Generally speaking, Microsoft has publicly stated in many online sources this week that if your hardware is capable of running Win7 SP1 or Win8.1, both the downloadeable upgrade to WinX and the clean install ISO file are guaranteed to work.

If your computer was built in 2006 or after, the chances are good that you can solve your problems by doing a manual clean install with the ISO file downloaded media as described above. If you have a modern computer, and that's defined as ... Read more

I received notification that my Windows 10 reservation is now ready. After downloading and preparing to install through Windows Update, I receive a failure notice with error code 80070005. I have done some searching online, but have found sparse information on how to resolve this.

I am currently on Windows 8.1 Pro x64. I have administrative privileges.

For several months, I've had an ongoing issue when I run 'sfc /scannow', corrupt files are found, some of which it cannot be repaired. From the CBS.log file, I found these related to "utc.app.json". I was assured that when Microsoft sent out update for DiagTracking (KB3022345), it causes a false positive for file corruption. Therefore, I never did anything about this, and I haven't experienced any other issues.

Also worth noting is that I currently have my boot SSD partitioned and configured to dual boot Windows 8.1 Pro and Linux. This all works fine, and I've been told this shouldn't be a problem for upgrading to Windows 10.

I would like to do an in-place upgrade to Windows 10, not a clean install, so that I keep all of my software and settings as they are.

Thanks for any help / advice!

Answer:Upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10 fails with error code 80070005...

Nothing to do about this?

I also want to mention that I have my boot SSD as a GPT disk with an EFI partition. I just use the GRUB2 bootloader. I've read that others have upgraded dual boot systems to Windows 10 without issue. Generally one just needs to edit the Windows entry in GRUB2 so that it states, "Windows 10".

I'd really appreciate any thoughts on how to proceed. Thanks again.

I am having an issue installing Windows Updates (WU) all have Error Code: 80070005.

Nine updates installed after several tries, but there are about 50 updates waiting to be downloaded and installed.

I ran the SURT, but it kept spinning...all day, so I canceled it. Tried running it again, but it wouldn't let me run it again.

I ran the SFC Scan and have the SFC detail log attached. Appears a lot of files were repaired and some could not be repaired. The files that couldn't be repaired are mostly sample MS music, pictures, etc. Stuff I am not interested in.

Maybe one of my cleaners deleted same as a useless/unused file or maybe a virus corrupted some files? I didn't see anything in the SFC detail log pertaining to WU?

The CBS compressed zip log is 13.6MB, which is over the 8MB upload limit, so couldn't upload it?

On June 23, 2016, MSSE picked up a Rogue: JS/FakeCall.D labeled (Severe). It was quarantined by MSSE, I deleted it.

Malwarebytes this past week picked up and quarantined a few rootkits labeled as severe or a threat. I deleted those. Not sure if these items affected WU or not?

Would the Windows Update - Reset tutorial would work to fix my WU issue here? Seems like a uncomplicated fix?

So any help here would be appreciated, Thanks!

Answer:Windows Updates won't install, Error Code: 80070005

Hi Vista32,
Thats not good reading.
Most system security experts would advise a complete RE-install of any OS compromised by a Rootkit, but you, from your own admission, have had few.
Iam NOT a security expert but in this case I WOULD, if you can identify them, look them up at BleepingComputers they have an excellent catalogue of Rootkits and there impact/removal.
Just removing them does NOT allways guarentee a clean system.

Having said that SFC has done a pretty good job of repairing some of whats been infected/changed, but it is advised to run it 3x.
From what i can see there are certainly still some errors, in Windows media player, and there are likely to be others
SURT can take >>hours<< to run especially on a previously infected system, as it also makes repairs as it goes along

You can run the troublshooter, if you want.

Hello. I am having the same issues with the Windows 10 upgrade as TheDude has previously reported. In fact, last I checked the upgrade had made 30 unsuccessful attempts to upgrade.

I was thinking - and am a non-technically inclined senior citizen - that when I logon to my system I logon on using an @outlook.com address. Could it be that my system is waiting for me to log on to a "local" account or something?

I tried the creation tool... clicked run and "poof," nothing. I even created a USB flash drive with the upgrade on it using our laptop computer. But after the install began I was asked for the "product key;" wouldn't you know that the product key ended in AEOEM (or some such characters), but the upgrade told me it wasn't a valid product key.

So I contacted Dell... so much for paid support; worthless as teets on a boar hog. They referred me to Microsoft, who, after keeping me on hold for some time, had me run MSCONFIG, go to the services tab, check hide all Microsoft services, and then hit apply.... Only problem? The MSCONFIG window said "not responding!"

The Microsoft tech said for $99 she'd be happy to elevate my tech support for one item for 30 days. I said no thanks, that was too much $$$ when they couldn't even guarantee that whatever they might do would correct the issue. (Besides, it seems there are many folks encountering the same issues I am with the upgrade, so this can't be "just" my computer.)

Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.
