Preferred Solution: i have a problem with Toshiba satellite P300 Factory Default issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: i have a problem with Toshiba satellite P300 Factory Default issue

Did you just hold F8 in on boot or were you continually tapping it ?

EDIT...Just read a link which advised to shut the laptop down twice and prior to the next boot, hold the 0 in and then switch on - this may give you the correct Recovery Menu

Answer:Toshiba satellite P300 (-1CD) won't boot past toshiba splash screen.

Perform the following steps:
-Remove the battery and Power adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds (with battery and power still removed)
-Insert just the battery and attempt to boot the laptop.
-Insert just the power adapter and attempt to boot the laptop.

If still unsuccessful: Remember to remove battery and power before removing/installing components

-Remove the power and battery
-Remove the hard drive from the laptop and attempt to boot with the battery installed. Do you receive any error message?
-Remove the memory modules from the laptop
-Insert just the battery and attempt to start the laptop (you should receive beep error)
-Try inserting just one module of memory and test (swapping modules after each attempt)
-Remove the optical drive and test.
-Try disconnecting the CMOS battery for a few minutes then re-connect and try.

How can I set my Toshiba Satellite P300 back to factory settings?
On Acer Computers it is [alt]+[F11] or something, and on HP-Computers it's built in to the system - so it's really easy. Do Toshiba have a "key" like that?

I'm sorry for my bad English, I?m a Norwegian Girl.

I really hope for an answer, thanks :)

Hi there,

Been having lot's of problems on this machine. It started with a nearly full C: partition which made Vista invoke a drive compression.

After that the laptop would not boot; after POST there was just a blank screen (no flashing cursor). The tap 'F8' solution from the manual would not work.

With no booting system, i tried using a Vista recovery CD. But this would not even boot, even after setting BIOS to boot from CD first, or even using the F12 boot selection screen.

I had to physically remove the hard drive from the laptop to get the CD to boot. But obviously couldn't do much after that. At this point i'm thinking that the hard drive compress utility had corrupted the boot sector.

So i connected the Hard drive to a desktop PC, Backed up all 3 partitions (1 hidden plus C: 'Vista' and D: which held the HDDRecovery files)

I then tried formatting then drive and reinstating the partitions. This is the point i'm having problems with.

I used Boot-us software to make the first partition hidden which is what it was. Hidden. Plus i left it without assigning a drive letter.

On the second partition i used windows backup to restore the C: drive, this software didn't restore all files by the way it left out important ones such as Winload.exe, which is why i had to do a factory restore.

On the third partition i restored the 'HDDRecovery' folder.

Now after editing the BCD file i was able to enter the Toshiba recovery environment from a bootable CD tha... Read more

Answer:Satellite P300-1A8 cannot get factory recovery to work

Hi, mate

Unfortunately, I don't think you can recover the factory settings even having Hdd recovery folder. I had the same situation like you. i wanted to install Windows Xp on my A500 and didn't make a recovery disk. So, the factory settings gone and no recovery disk was available. I didn't want to pay money for a recovery disk. I just got windows 7 copy disk, installed it with all drivers and application I need. Then, made a hdd image of my current Os with acronis true image, created a recovery zone and that's all. Now, if I want to restore Os, i just press f11 on startup, enter acronis and it restores from Hdd image. It takes me 10 minutes to wait..

The recover partition on the hard drive isnt available so i assume it cant be recovered. Is it possible to purchase a factory image?

A friend has a P300 (Vista Home Premium) with a DS8A4S slimline DVD drive. It plays commercial audio CDs just fine, but does not recognise DVDs at all. By that I mean that when a DVD is put in the drive, it does not show up at all - select the drive and the message comes up "please insert a disc into drive D". Also, when I put a a CD full of MP3s that I'd burned into the drive, "Properties" reported that the disc was empty, when on my own machine (Win7 Pro 64), it correctly shows as full. I also tried a commercially produced MP3 disc, one I bought from, and it played just fine. There are no warnings in Device Manager, selecting Driver Update brings up a message that the driver is already up to date. I was thinking that perhaps it's not a mechanical issue, since it does read and play some discs. Any suggestions will be very gratefully received. Thanks!

Did you try cleaning out the drive? Old remedy, take a Q-tip and brush it on the laser inside the casing. Normally can reach through CD tray.

If that didn't work, yeah, I'd say the drive is bad. Just get a cheap one off eBay.

Hello everyone,

I wasn't very clever of placing continiously my laptop on the floor, which lead to me stepping on it the other day and now I have a broken screen. It still works, but there are colored cracks..
I contacted Toshiba to check about the cost of such a repair and I was told that the price of the screen only will be more than 300? + the work and all will make it about 400?.
I also contacted a local computer shop and they said that a non genuine Toshiba screen will cost 160? + work.

My question here is: Can I by myself the screen on the internet and does it take any special skills to mount it on the laptop? I have just a bit more than basic skills in repairing elecronics and I suppose I will be able to change it, if it doesn't take any special skills or tools..
And as well, what screen should I buy? A genuine Toshiba one or a less expensive one also does its job?
The brand and the model of the laptop are: Toshiba Satellite P300 - 1G6 - 17"

Thanks in advance for all eventual responses!

May I ask you why you are looking for this ?Toshiba Utilities??
Are some notebook features no available?

In my opinion you don?t need Toshiba Utilities if you are using Win 7.
I have installed Win 7 and everything what I needed, was the VAP (value added package).

This package contains some tools and utilities.
If you want to use FN keys, then you should install additionally Toshiba Flash Cards Utility? such utility is not released for all notebooks models? so try to install such tool released for example for; Toshiba Satellite L500

Maybe the application must be reinstalled. You can download it on the Toshiba website.

Hello everybody,

I bought a Windows 7 upgrade to Toshiba.

And I have 2 DVD :
1 for the Toshiba upgrade and 1 for the Windows upgrade.

I have run the 2 first steps without problems.

But when I have run the 3rd step (which is the upgrade of the Toshiba tools), an error occured and I wanted to cancel thee process (I have even removed the CD from the CD reader) but the process kept running.

In conclusion the process went to the end but no tools are installed and when I want to run the CD again it acts as if all the tools are already installed and it doesn't run.

What can I do for the system to consider that the tools are not installed ?

Or where can I find another install program which will run the Toshiba tools on my system ?

Thank you very much.

I need to make my recovery disc's for my Satellite P300 (PSPCCA-05V01Y) but the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator isn't working, as it is saying that there isnt a HDD Recover file on the pc.
I tried before, and it had a problem with the core files, saying it was corrupt.
So I was wondering if there is anyway I can download the HDD Recovery installation so that I can install it and bring it back to the 'factory state' and reburn the recovery disc's?
Cheers for any help

Answer:Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator isn't working on my Satellite P300

Hello Mikey

The situation is pretty complicated. When you got your notebook the recovery files was saved on second partition in ?HDDRecovery? folder. The second partitions and saved files should not be changed.

If you have done something with second partition or this folder Toshiba recovery creator cannot find these files and recovery media cannot be created. This will works with ?factory settings? only. but I see one other problem there.
Theoretically, you can now install OS again using HDD recovery installation procedure, and with factory state you should be able to create DVD but if the Toshiba recovery creator cannot find the files I am afraid the HDD recovery installation can have the same problem.

If you want you can test it. Try to start HDD recovery installation.

This is a cut and paste of a previous post, but one which I am having a problem with today (saves me typing it out again!) :

When I start my laptop, it stops on he Toshiba leading innovation screen and only provides the option to do one of two things. This is what it says at the bottome of the page *"Press F2 to enter Setup, F12 to enter Multiboot Selection Menu"* I have tried both. I pressed F2, I've press F12 and neither one gets me pst the screen

- When I press either after the Toshiba screen is visible, they do nothing
- If I press the F2 during boot up, the instruction at the bottom of the page says "Please Wait". However, I waited for hours and nothing ever happened. The "please wait" message just sat there.
- If I press the F12 during boot up, the instruction at the bottom of the page says "Press F2 SETUP, Entering boot device selection menu....." Then it just sits there and does nothing
The Toshiba Leading Innovation screen remains the whole time.

I have tried removeing the battery and draining flea power - this does not resolve the issue.

When I restart the laptop, I get the situation as per line 1 above. No amount of tapping F8 does anything..I`m always back to the Toshiba leading Innovation page.

The fan is working but the HDD led never flickers.

Any suggestions please? Thanks

What happen exactly when you press power button?

Hi guys,

Just want to find out how to get my computer to register the HDD2 (D: drive). I followed the provided instructions from Toshiba for downgrading to XP from Vista. The sheet said to select any option other than return to out of box state or maintain current partition. So I chose the only other option available.......which was remove the partition or something like that. Now I have 2 hard drives totalling 500Gb, but only one drive registers. What is the best way to sort this out......

I have a new Satellite P300-156 which I have been using for about a month with no problems. It has been great.

This morning I had a message come up to install Toshiba Tempo which I did and all was fine until I restarted the laptop and now Vista wont start.
I have followed all the diagnostic tools, tried system restore etc... but still nothing.

I currently live in Italy, so is hard to take it into a computer repair shop as I dont speak Italian and the operating system is in english.

From what I can see my only option now is to do the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery, but I would loose some data which I have done since my last backup. Is there any way to backup data to a usb storage device using command promts before I do this, or is there a simpler way out of this?

Any advice would be great.

Answer:Satellite P300-156: Vista wont start after installation of Toshiba Tempo

Well, this is really strange issue?

What you could do is to press the F8 button immediately after notebook starting.
This would enable a menu with ?Advanced Boot Options?.

There you could choose the option called ?Last known good configuration (advanced)?.

Please check this option. I this is your last opportunity to boot up the notebook and to start the Vista without using the Recovery CD.

I don't know for sure, but... it sounds like something is wrong with the ac jack.
Those can be replaced easily if you know how to solder, the part will cost less 7 dollars USA wise but shipping to you might be another issue due to your location.

Hi, I am new to the forum and hope that somone will be able to help.

I am having problems burning DVD's. When I use burning software the image is usually copied ok and then the burning process starts, which usually lasts a couple of moments and then the machine spits out the disc part burnt and wasted.

I usually use Corel DVD Copy 6, but have tried the TOSHIBA programmes and others such as NERO. Using Corel VideoStudio, this burns discs with a 90% sucess rate, but the problem comes when trying to copy my own created discs.

I have tried different Disc types (ie +R and -R), and I have tried burning speeds too.

Has anbody else suffered this problem?

I have managed to find an error code 06077-26-2A040902 , does this mean anyhting to anyone?

The TEMPRO Alerts seem to have provided firmware updates for a number of other DVD drives, but not the one in my machine? Perhpas it is due one? All the drivers are up to date.

Thanks for listening and anybodies help is more than welcome.

Answer:Satellite P300 19P - CD/DVD Burning Issue

The lens could have dust on it. Open the CD door and clean the lens using a clean microfiber cloth, or gently blow onto the lens.

If thats no good, try removing the filters:

When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.

1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
4) Reboot.

If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).

This utility can remove the filters for you:

I have a problem when installing win xp to Satellite p300-133.
To solve this problem I tried solutions:
switching to ahci compatibility mode in bios and integrating intel storage drivers to xp installation cd by nlite but none of them solved the problem.

Notebook boots from xp cd and xp installation says "setup is inspecting your hardware configuration" and then a blank black screen comes.
After that, installation does not do anything and waits infinitely.

Any ideas about this problem? Thanks.

Answer:Satellite P300-133 - Win Xp installation issue

> switching to ahci compatibility mode in bios and integrating Intel storage drivers to xp installation cd by nlite but none of them solved the problem.

Both methods are right!
You can install the Win XP without the Intel Storage Manger drivers (SATA drivers) but in such case the SATA mode should be set to compatible mode.
This work for sure!!!

The second method is the installation of SATA drivers using nLite (drivers can be integrated into new Win XP disk).

I don?t understand why this doesn?t work on your notebook. I think it?s a problem with your Win XP disk?. Does this Win XP contain SP2 or SP3?
If not then you should use nLite in order to include min the SP2 to Win XP.

Check it!

Still original Vista recovery image or maybe own Win7 version?

I had P300 long time ago and I?ve used it with Win7 32bit.

We don't know which additional software or some third part drivers are installed on your machine and how you have configured preinstalled OS.

Since when have you noticed this problem? What is with stand-by? The same problem?

Answer:Windows Volume issue on Satellite P300-19f

Did you try to update the Conexant sound driver?

Please check if you are using the latest sound driver!

The latest sound driver should be released on the Toshiba European driver page!

Before you would install the newer sound driver, please remove the old one!

Good luck!

Since a week i have a problem with my keyboard on my P300.

The keyboard doesn't work when the power supply is on. The keyboard is inactive on vista and in the BIOS.

When i cut the power and the PC is on battery the keyboard is OK.

Do you have any infomations about this problem ?

Answer:Strange keyboard issue on a Satellite P300

Hi Oliv

Such issue is not known to me and I think it must be hardware related issue.
What you can do about it? Not much except to try with BIOS update but I don?t think it will help.

Satellite P300 is not the newest notebook model. Since when you have noticed such strange keyboard behaviour?

To be honest I think you should contact Toshiba service in your country. Let them check keyboard and keyboard controller using diagnostic tools. They can tell you what the problem is and how to fix it.

I've a Satellite P300-1AN notebook and since the beginning (two weeks)
I have a touchpad issue: it is not immediately responsive and the pointer trembles when touching the pad. Very often it freezes for just one or two seconds.

This is VERY annoying. A USB mouse works perfectly.
I tried reinstalling ALPS drivers, tried Synaptics ones, tried just Windows Vista drivers: no way.

Now I have found the reason: this issue is present only when the notebook is powered by AC adapter.
With battery the touchpad is perfect.

I contacted Toshiba Service and thay said that they won't change the AC adapter if I don't try before a complete system restore!
Isn't it simpler just try with a new adapter and only then, if the problem persists, try more drastic procedures?

Has anyone had this same issue?

Answer:Satellite P300-1AN - Touchpad issue with AC adapter

> I contacted Toshiba Service and thay said that they won't change the AC adapter if I don't try before a complete system restore! Isn't it simpler just try with a new adapter and only then, if the problem persists, try more drastic procedures?

The point is that your notebook should be always checked using the Toshiba factory configuration.
Why? Because the ASP wants to be sure that this issue is not related to a software problem (compatibility issue with 3rd party applications). The software issues are not covered by warranty.

Furthermore the ASP will always recover the notebook before checking any hardware parts for a malfunction. Therefore you should always backup your data from the HDD before you will send the notebook for checking.

I would recommend to reinstall the OS using the Toshiba recover disk and then check if the issue would appears.
If yes then you can contact the ASP again and could provide all details which are necessary for an technician.

Hello there !

When the battery is discharged, the light should flash orange to indicate that the battery is low. By cons when I plug the power adapter for recharging, the light illuminates.
Why when the battery is discharged, the orange light does not flash ?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Strange battery issue on Satellite P300-275

As far as I know first thing you can see is low and critical battery notifications. When you will see it depends on battery settings.
When the battery is completely empty the battery LED should blink.

Can you see low and critical battery notifications?

want to completely wipe laptop to factory settings as cant access certain things due to previous owner

Answer:factory reset toshiba satellite

You or the previous owner should have made a set of recovery discs with the Toshiba Backup Media utility when the laptop was working okay (preferably when the laptop was first purchased new). There is no way to do a factory restore without that set of discs.Toshiba will supply you with a set of their own recovery discs for a small charge if you didn't bother make your own and Windows won't run properly. If you first want to try to make your own and Windows is working reasonably well, go to Start >> All Programs >> Toshiba >> Toshiba Recovery Media CreatorThat's where it is on my Toshiba laptop but mine is Windows 7 and only 3 years old.If you don't have any such utility on yours, go here and order Backup Media (recovery discs): be aware it depends how old your model is. They don't have recovery discs for models made before a certain year (2007 I think). If yours is too old, you'll have to search around for a cheap copy of XP, install it, then get the laptop drivers from Toshiba's website. They keep drivers even for very old models.

My wifes p300 has a very confusing and annoying issue. She is now on her 3rd replacement the last two having the same problem.

I just shuts off intermittently for no reason, some times it will reboot however sometimes it wont. Then if I remove the battery and plug the power in it will reboot again however it will then shut off again and not reboot unless battery is put back in. I am thinking that it may be an issue with the battery and or the power cable as she says the problem will become worse if the computer has to run on battery power for any length of time.

I was just wondering if anyone else had come across this problem or had any suggestions as to what the problem might be.

Cheers Bill

Answer:Satellite P300 issue, shuts down and will not reboot intermittently.

It sounds to me like an overheating issue, and to save the machine from dying, the BIOS automattically shuts down.

Make sure that the fans are clear, (Just give them a good blow to clear any dust)

And always run the machine on a solid surface, making sure that the fan in/outlets (Probably on the left of this machine) have more than enough room to breathe.

A few weeks ago, I don't recall exactly when, Windows Vista on my Satellite P300-225 started to pass an incorrect scancode to applications when the ?Enter? key is pressed. It always sends the scancode of the ?Keypad Enter? key, even when I hit the one in the alphanumeric part of the keyboard. It did work correctly some time ago, but suddenly, it just started acting like this. No remapping of any keys.

Since there are quite a few programs that act different on these two keys, this has become quite an annoying issue.

The strangest part of it is, that the problem seems to be somehow related to Windows Vista, since the keys are correctly reported on Linux.

If anybody has a clue, please, let me know.

Answer:Strange issue with "Enter" key in Vista on Satellite P300-225

hi koniiiik,
i am not familiar with keymapping in vista but as you said it: "under linux everthing works correctly" and the issue is appearing only in vista.
to me it sounds like re-installing Vista....
or to deinstall the keyboard in recovery mode and check if vista reinstalls it correctly.
or a program is corrupting the code table....

I've bought this laptop a good month ago to replace my old one that had crashed beyond repair and I've been having problems with the video drivers ever since. I initially hoped the problem would solve itself since I am in the middle of my exams and I really don't have time too much extra time to spend on mending it myself, and I also can't give it back to the store since I need certain software for my exams.

So the problem I think lies with the video drivers for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphic card. Whilst I am working on my laptop my screen all of a sudden turns black and my computer freezes (including very unpleasant sound when I'm playing music at the time) an after 5 seconds it flashes back into live and displays a message saying a beelschermstuurprogramma werkte niet perfect en is nu herstela. In English this would be something like s video drivers were not functioning correctly and have now been repaired.

This is of course hugely irritating but it became even more so a couple of weeks ago when I first got a blue screen because of a similar error. Leading me to lose half a hour of work on my laptop. (and as anyone who has ever had exams knows, half an hour is not something you can always afford to lose) I ran the wizard and it sent me to the ATI website to look for drivers.
The inconvenience is that I've been able to find a lot of drivers, but none for the 3400 series. After searching internet for a while I finally found some drivers for these s... Read more

Answer:Satellite P300-1FY - BSOD due video driver issue

First of all you should post the exact BSOD code and what OS do you use. Then we can search on the Microsoft Knowledge Base for this issue and what is the reason for this.
So please post the BSOD code.

Furthermore I don?t understand why you can?t find a driver on the Toshiba website. The Satellite P300-1FY belongs to the PSPCCE series and therefore I can find a display driver for XP and Vista. So where is the problem? Maybe you should try to install this driver: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

But before you install the driver, remove the old driver first. Restart the notebook and clean your system with CCleaner. Restart the notebook again and then install the newest version from the Toshiba website.

The display driver on the manufactures website (ATI) doesn?t work because it?s only for desktop cards and not for notebooks. So you can?t install it and your notebook is only tested with the Toshiba drivers.

If the new driver doesn?t work you should try to update the BIOS too. You can find on the Toshiba page.

Good luck!!

I have just taken delivery of a P300 19Q which seems fine other than....

1. The wireless doesn't work

2. The keyboard, in my opinion is c**p

I removed Vista as I'm using the laptop for recording music and XP is much better (not sure if this is related) but I cannot get the WiFi to work.
I have spent hours on the phone to Tiscali and Laptops Directs own tech help with no joy.

Any ideas?

Also I'm not at all happy with the keyboard. The whole keyboard flaps about, the keys on the far left and right seem very solid but all the rest seem like they should be on a toy. Its this really how they should be?

I would appreciate a speedy reply as I'm undecided whether I should get a refund or replacement.

Many thanks

Answer:Satellite Pro P300-19Q WLan don't work in Win XP & keyboard issue

As far as I know the notebook uses a Intel WLan card. Right?
In such case you should update the BIOS to version 3.00 or higher.

Regarding the keyboard;
I don?t know what you mean exactly by ?rest seem like they should be on a toy? but it?s a common glossy black 105 button keyboard like these notebook keyboards:

You will find such keyboards on different notebook from different manufacturers.

But if you think there is a keyboard issue and that there is something wrong then contact the ASP in your country for a keyboard check? (just to be 100% sure)

I have a problem with my Toshiba Saellite P300-1FC
In general the Keyboard and all keys are working proper but sometimes a button is not working. When I press the button again (normal force) it works.

I tried already to recover the notebook but it doesn?t help.
Another problem are the soft keys on the right hand side to the power button. The buttons are not working. A recovery of the computer doesn?t help.

The illumination is also not working; illumination of the satellite logo + touch pad is ok. I recovered the Bios -> this was not the solution. The problem with the illumination is not a OS problem because it occur already during startup.

Any ideas regarding my problems?
Best Regards

Answer:Satellite P300 - Keyboard and Soft Keys issue

> When I press the button again (normal force) it works.
That?s the key. Use normal force. When I?m typing fast and the pressure on the keys is not good enough I can see missing letters in the text I write. To be honest I don't see it as a problem. The same happen on my machine too.

Illumination works only if this option is enabled. If I?m remembering well you can do it in BIOS settings directly or using option in HWsetup tool. You can find it in Toshiba Assist > Optimize. The same is on my P500 model.

Check it out.

I have the Toshiba Satellite c655 and itwas extremely slow so i burned copies of the Factory Recovery. It read the first disc then the 2nd and stopped. And wanted a reboot even though theres 4 discs. Now i cant factory restore it nor can i just boot to browse my computer because it deleted patitions. Ive held 0 down and re tryingdidnt work. It just kept popping the cds out saying enter the next one and press OK. Anyone know what to do?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite factory restore errors

I think I would start by running a test on the hard drive, if that is defective (one reason for slow performance) it will need to be replaced.

Did you create the recovery discs while the system was performing badly? If so that could also explain why the Factory Restore is not working as the discs may have errors.

You can create the Seatools disc on any fully functional PC with a CD burner or use any PC to create the Flash Drive.

Open Internet Explorer and click on this: Seatools

Save the download to your desktop.

In Windows 7 right click the ISO file, select Open With, then select Windows Disc Image Burning Tool then follow the prompts.
For all other versions of windows (if you do not have an ISO burner) download this free software. ImgBurn Install the program (make sure you uncheck any boxes that will install bundled software) and start the application. Select the top left hand option to Write image file to disc and then on the next window click on the small yellow folder icon and browse to the ISO file on your desktop. Then click on the two grey discs with the arrow in between (bottom left) and leave it to complete the operation.

You will need a blank recordable CD or a re-recordable CD. If your PC has no CD/DVD drive or you would prefer to run Seatools from a Flash Drive follow this guide: How to run Seatools from a USB Flash Drive

When the CD has been burned boot the PC into the Bios setup and set the CD/DVD drive to 1st in the boot sequence Bios Boot Order Guide. ... Read more

So I wanted to format my laptop, went through the normal process to format to factory settings. Everything was going fine until windows was installing. It was hung on 1% for about 16 hours (went to bed, was still at the same percentage in the morning) and some how my power lead disconnected and computer shut down, plugged it back in and voila come up with an error saying windows can not load and my laptop kept rebooting.

I have managed to put a new version of windows on, but I am not satisfied with it. I am missing all my drivers and everything else that was on the laptop when I first booted it up.

I know I can get all the drivers I need from the website which I have started to do. But again it does not satisfy me.

Is there any way to get a copy of the windows that came with the laptop with all the drivers etc? Or is there a way to recover it?

Thank you

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655D that I am trying to do a factory recovery on. I have found how to supposedly access the recovery but it does not work. You are suppose to power off the laptop and hold down the zero (0) key and then press the power button...but it does not work. I can boot up with a Windows disc, BartPE, Hiren...etc. and I can see the 12 GB recovery partition, but can't get to it.

This is a Satellitte C665D-S5332 laptop and some of the instructions are for models close to this. Does anyone know how to bring up the factory recovery menu beside using the Zero key thing? Or does anyone know what kind of image backup Toshiba uses to make the image? i.e. Acronis, Norton...etc. Maybe I can use the actual program to restore with.

Please note: Holding down the power button on the machine forces it to switch off. Any unsaved data will be lost.

2) Press and hold the 0 (zero) key and at the same time, tap the power button once to switch on your notebook.

3) When the machine Starts beeping; release the 0 key.

4) When prompted by the warning screen; select Yes to continue with the system recovery.

You can use either the recovery disk or the HDD recovery.
I assume you have created a own recovery disk in the past.
In such case boot from this disk and follow the instruction on the screen ;)

If you have no recovery disk then try HDD recovery.
Boot up the unit, press F8, then choose Repair my computer, then choose HDD recovery.

Is there an easy way to reset the Satellite L50D-B-16M back to its factory defaults without having to go through the process of making recovery disks and all that?

There are no imporant files on it anymore, I'm just looking for a straightforward way to reset it to its factory defaults. (The old trick with pressing the 0-button while turning it on doesn't seem to work).

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-16M Back To Factory Default?

The old trick with pressing the 0-button while turning it on doesn't seem to work

Pressing the 0 button started the recovery from HDD Recovery partition.

You could also switch on the computer, press and hold the "F12" key while the Toshiba logo appears.
Then you should see the boot menu and the last option called HDD recovery should also allow you to start the recovery procedure from HDD…

But this will work only if the HDD was not modified and if the recovery files are still available.

Hey all.

I'm going to unashamedly admit that I only came here for a fix to my problem. I'm sure this bothers you, and I'm sorry for that, but I'm at my wit's end.

I have a Satellite P300 lappy. The model number is PSPCCA-0C201Y (which the Toshiba website says is invalid) and the serial number is 49166418W (which the Toshiba website says is invalid.)

I was running Windows 7 on it, and the microphone was a little strange on Skype - it said I had two microphones, and no matter which one I had selected as the default, the other one was the only one that worked. But that was fine, changing my device for every conversation wasn't such a hassle.

I formatted, reinstalled Windows 7 and now neither of those selectable devices works. The device manager says that the only drivers that need updating are for managing USB devices. The inbuilt webcam works fine. But I can't make a peep on my microphone.

I can't find the correct drivers because I can't use my model number or serial number to identify what lappy I have on the Toshiba website's support section.

I'm lost. Ideas?

Thanks, folks.

Answer:Satellite P300 - webcam drivers/serial code issue

Your notebook model is Australian notebook model and I found it on Australian support page .
There you can find drivers for supported operating systems.

Have you installed 32 or 64bit Win7?
Have you installed Vista drivers?
Is sound card installed properly?

When the sound driver is properly installed and web cam application works properly Skype recognize mic automatically and it should be listed in Skype audio settings.

Have you tested Skype functionality with headset?

Toshiba Satellite P300 really superb machine it fits mostly all my needs.
I'm loyal to Toshiba company and had a lot of experience many years with Your products,
I like Toshiba most than any other company but now i've received problem with my Satellite P300.

I have Conexant HD SmartAudio 221 audiocard with lineout/spdif and mic/line in front jacks. I'm musician and sometimes using Line In port for recordings.
So after i bought new P300 laptop on Vista Home Premium OS, I discovered that line in and stereo mix are not in mixer and playback/recording devices in sound control panel.

So when i connect external sound to line-in i can't hear it from computer speakers, ports are working ok, drivers - newest provided by Toshiba support ver 4.36.7, also "show disconnected/disabled devices" set to on in sound menu.
The thing is i can record everything from that ports and playback after, but i can't hear sound when i recording in real time.

Also i can't hear my voice when I?m talking into mic, because as i found by default this ports under mute in playback mode and tabs for activating/deactivating that mute are disabled in registry.
On XP everything worked perfectly but in Vista its disaster.

I checked a lot of forums and portals. There are some tweaks for registry and other drivers, but not for Toshiba and Conexant!
Also found that newest drivers are not so loud if we compare preinstalled on laptop from manufacturer 4.36.6.

Hi guys,

have Win 7 installed, 32 bit. Drivers installed of ll devices, no errors in device manager.

But per Windows session (boot / shut down) I can only use the O2 card reader (SDHC Sandisk 16 Gb) once.
No matter if I just take out the card, or use the "Windows cleaner" way to eject from the tray, the next time during that same session if I insert the card, no drive letter is created in the Windows explorer.

If I look in the device manager that time, an error 38 with exclamation mark is presented, based on "driver has been loaded before but not unloaded".

I can then only have a look at the card again if I first reboot Windows. Starts to become a really annoying issue since I tend to have the notebook in standby quite a lot, not shutting it down normally.

Are there any tips here ?

Answer:Satellite P300 - Card reader issue on Windows 7 32bit

Are you using the drivers from the original installation disc that came with the reader? They may be Vista driver that are not compatible with Win7.

Check the O2 website for updated drivers.

This laptop belongs to a handicapped neighbor friend of mine, its older the date on it is 2005 I believe. As far as I know it does not have the hidden partition that houses the OS. Nor does she remember if she has or ever had discs for it. She mainly uses it to email DR.s and family, and looking up health related info. Not much else. Its got to the point its so darn slow, its just insane. My dell got like that, I reset it to factory and its soooo much faster now. Problem is no matter what I search on the matter or what site I go to, nothing is clear to me or its the wrong info. I found one site that had info saying a recovery CD(s)could be burnt but it was for vista OS not XP even if it was the same exact model. I look and there is no option to burn these CDs that I can find, only to burn a cd to recover the express media center. Noone cares about that....
Any ideas on what to do or is she out of luck on this?

I've had this laptop for a month now and have been trying to get it back into it's original condition. Apparently they've been using a universal power adapter and it was overvolting the laptop at 22V instead of the rated 19V. The battery won't charge which I'm sure is due to that. Anyway most likely from running on adapter only the OS got hosed from being turned off improperly. So I wanted to do a factory reinstall from the recovery partition. Tried system restore to no avail btw.

So from what I've learned recovering a Toshiba laptop back to factory you're supposed to hold down the 0 key turn it on and it should take you to a recovery menu which it does not. There are no beeps but I do see something about recovery in the bottom left hand corner for a split sec, but then it goes to a normal start in safe mode screen. My last option from what I can see is to order a recovery disc direct from Toshiba, couldn't find any images online as far as free goes.

Anybody have any other suggestions before I spend money?

It has Win Vista 32 installed.

Hi, Since my desktop is full of stuff I can't seem to get rid of, I decided to reset my Toshiba Satellite A300-1M9 to factory settings/out-of-the-box state. Methods such as the '0 + power button'-method don't work on this model. I've lost my CD/DVD and I can't seem to acquire a new one (it's not for sale), plus the fact that I rather don't buy a new one. I can't find how to reset my Toshiba Satellite A300-1M9 to factory settings! Please help me. Yours sincerely,E. Mathijssen

Answer:How to Reset Toshiba Satellite A300-1M9 to Factory Settings?

Well I just checked and keeping the zero key pressed whilst pressing the power button is correct for that model.Your laptop must be turned off first of course, it won't work if the laptop is already turned on.

i accidentally wiped the drive yesterday and erased everything, I tried holding down 0 while turning on and it didn't help, all that comes up after the toshiba logo is "ntldr is missing" while the logo is showing it says " press f2 or press f12 and when i do it goes to bios. i dont know what to do...HELP!

Answer:can i factory restore my toshiba satellite m100-jg2 laptop?

It's pretty hard to 'accidently' do all that but OK. If you also wiped the restore partition on the drive then that's why it's not working. If you post back on exactly what you did maybe we can figure out if the partition is there or not. Also the restore partition was only on Toshibas that were newer than about mid 2007. If yours is older than that then it never had one anyway. Here's some info:

Hi Guys n Gals.

Any input on this would be great.
Its a Toshiba C650 PSC08E

I recently Restored my System to factory settings using the Toshiba recovery partition. Every thing was going fine i had installed Windows.

Was back to the desktop, it started to instal all of the Tosiba drives and programmes when it started to install Face Recognition. It froze for 5-10 minutes and shut itself down.

<The more relevent info>
I restarted my computer to a message telling me No bootable device. Restarted and went into Bios.
No HDD being detected.
It seems if i Enter Bios then Save and exit. (Which makes the comp restart)Bios detectes it fine.

I First thought it was a bad install and a format would work. So i did.
This time with win7 install disk. Same thing got to the desktop ,except the toshiba drivers didnt install themselves. I went to the toshiba website and installed the relevent drivers Currently working fine I am using it to type this post now.

Just every time i power on from a Shutdown I have to enter then exit Bios.
I have upated Bios, I Dont posses a Recovery CD. ( Is this any different to downloading drivers after a fresh install?)
I Would buy one but they quite expensive, The one i need is ?30.

Not quite sure how this forum operates, if there is a reward system i will be sure to stick to it,
Desperatly need some help here. This is driving me insane

Answer:Satellite C650: HDD not detected after Toshiba factory reset

OK. The first thing you should do is to enter BIOS, set it to default settings and check how it works. I think HDD should be recognized properly and you should be able to start notebook without entering BIOS.

Now after clean OS installation you cannot install recovery image from HDD. What you need now is original recovery disc. I don?t understand why you didn?t create it when everything was OK.
Anyway, new recovery disc can be ordered on

If you want to keep your OS version install all missing drivers, tools and utilities additionally. You can download them from Toshiba download page -

If you need more assistance you are welcome.

Hello everyone...

First of all excuse my bad English...

I have the Satellite L500 with Windows 7 Home Premium [64-bit], and I want to reset it to factory default, like how I first bought it.

I know this method: you hold 0 while turning on the laptop, then you get the warning, then you choose (out of the box)....etc.

But if I do this method will I still get the 64-bit or the 32-bit version?

Thanks in advance :)

Answer:Satellite L500 - Reset to factory default with 64bit OS

I don?t know which L500 (L500-xxx) do you have exactly but after HDD recovery image installation you will have identical OS version as you get with your notebook.

How to do this you can read on

Please post exact notebook model.
If you have more questions you are welcome.

First of all my two +hotkeys+ (to set off the light and to start a media player) aren't working. The rest is working fine.
Second, when I scroll my +volume wheel+, a "c" appears whereever you can type in something.

Third, a few combinations have a strange effect when I put in numbers.
For example, I push 1 and directly after that a 6, a 5 shows up in between. Or I hold 0 and push 6 the +FN+ menu appears.

Can anyone help me with this problem?
I tried to look up in this forum, find different drivers but haven't found any yet.

I have windows vista 32-bits

Great thank you!

Answer:Satellite P300-13M Hotkey, volume scroll, numeral keyboard issue

First of all I recommend checking your BIOS.
If BIOS is not up to date, then update it!

I remember also that some has had an similar issue with the volume control wheel
The volume indicator level jumped and ccc appeared in all possible editors.
The guy solved this by cleaning the contacts and sensors near the volume wheel.
He used compressed air spray?
Maybe you should try this too..

Regarding the hotkeys issue;
First of all try to assign new application to each button.
This can be done using the Toshiba Button Support utility which can be found in Toshiba Assist -> Optimize.

You can find the exe files in folder program files/Toshiba/TBS

Toshiba Satellite L655D-S5109

A month ago was having issues with infinite start up loop after bad updates install. Couldn't even get into the command prompt for a while but then was able to and followed the "How to Recover from an Infinite Looping Startup Repair Loop without Reinstalling Windows" guide that I found on here and it worked. Got all of my personal files off then after a couple weeks decided to do a factory reset because it was starting to run slow at times.

Two nights ago had more updates from Windows and when I turned it on it said something didn't download correctly. It did a disk check and then was fine except ran slow when it booted up for a few minutes. Today when turning it on it gives options of running StartUp Repair which does the Windows loading files screen then goes to a black screen with the cursor icon. Also gives the Start Windows Normally option which gets stuck on the opening Windows icon and never moves.

All F8 options end up with black screen with cursor and the kicker is that I attempted factory reset twice now and it goes to a black screen with cursor as well. I don't have a recovery disk or any other Windows media.

Is there anything else I can try (tried taking the battery out too and holding down power button) or is this laptop toast? Thanks and let me know if you need any other system specs.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite - black screen of death and can't even factory reset

I would say that you have a disk problem.
If you do have a Win (7, 8 or 10) installation disk, boot with it, go to repair, launch command prompt and then type chkdsk C: /f.

Hi... (not sure which topic group I should have posted this in)

I wanted to restore my Toshiba Satellite to factory settings. It ran fine at first, but its gotten significantly worse (and not due to viruses).

How would I go about doing that? One website told me to tap F8 during boot-up, until I get to advanced options. But then the only option that seems relevant is "Toshiba Recovery Wizard". But this asks for a disk that I was not given when I purchased my laptop new.

Do I need this disc? Can i find it anywhere? Is there another way to reset to factory settings?

Any ideas?

Answer:Difficulties Resetting Toshiba Satellite to Factory Settings in Vista

According to this link you can have restore CDs sent to you at no cost.Have had little opportunity to work with Satellite`s. When you first start it up there is a black screen that appears prior to the Windows start-up screen. It should present you with at least 2 options, maybe 3. What are they?

Hi, today I got a laptop, Toshiba Satellite A215-S7416 to be specific. It's an older laptop but I needed something to use currently because I'm having major problems with my main computer. It came with Windows Vista Basic. I decided I'd upgrade the OS so I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and formatted the hard drive before doing so, because the previous owner had a lot of left over junk that made the computer slow. It's running perfect currently, but it's not charging my battery. While the computer is off the battery light will light up orange, signaling it's charging. But when I start up the computer the light goes off and the charging icon at the bottom right has a red x and tells me to consider replacing my battery, and that it's at 0% and isn't charging. I'm going to attach a screen shot showing the icon. For reference I've downloaded all the updates for my windows, include the SP for Windows 7. I've also tried to uninstall the battery's driver and restart the computer, and it's did nothing.

Also here are some specs for this laptop:
2gbs of ram
1.7ghz dual core cpu (amd)
~110gb hdd

As you say its a new laptop for you, are you sure the battery is in fact good? You could run this to check its capacity etc. BatteryInfoView - View battery information on laptops / netbooks

I bought a new laptop Toshiba Satellite L650/07C today.
When I first start the laptop, it went to recovery of factory default software???
there is nothing about this being mentioned in the manual.
Is this normal?or Is this means my laptop is not a new one or was a faulty one?

Anyone has the same experience here?

Answer:Factory default software starts booting Satellite L650/07C first time

Everything is fine with your lap. Just my recommendation is to create a recovery disk, don't postpone this procedure. Use high quality medias like verbatim and tdk to burn recovery disks.

I tried to check online but i did not find any clue. Can anyone suggest how to fix it?

Hello Srikant

As far as I know the system settings like BIOS password cannot be set from alone and by configuration the password must be entered two times (password confirmation).
Has anyone access to your machine?

I’m afraid someone has set password on your machine without your knowledge.

My Satellite L875D has the following Recovery Partitions:

450 MB
450 MB
9.36 GB

I'm assuming the 9.36 GB partition is used to create the Recovery CD's, but what are the two 450 MB partitions? Are they related to Windows 8/8.1 or something created by Toshiba for their software?

The installed OS at time of purchase was Windows 8 and has since been upgraded to Windows 8.1

I have successfully created 2 sets of Recovery CD's, is it safe to delete the partition used to create them so I can recover some disk space?

Answer:Default Recovery Partiton scheme Toshiba Satellite L875D

Yes, now when you have recovery medias you can change partitions structure and do whatever you want. One day if you want to have “factory settings” again just use created recovery discs and reinstall original recovery image.

Could someone please point me in what the problem maybe? And/or how I can fix this?

I bought a *Satellite Pro P300-19Q* laptop and got the shipment yesterday. I'm happy with the features and performance of the laptop. It has a numeric key pad as well. The problem here is the key board sinks in and comes up while using the keys near the arrow keys (right side bottom). I feel like its not secured properly. The key board at that area feels flimsy and irritating while using. Even some of my friends cheap laptops are not having this problem. I can't live with it like that as its a new laptop.
Is there a solution to get this fixed?

Answer:Satellite Pro P300-19Q - Keyboard problem

All laptop keyboards move to a certain degree, but if you think its moving excessively, then you should bring the laptop to an Authorized Service Center. Maybe they can re-seat the keyboard or fix it up.

I have the Toshiba Satellite P300-156 PSPC4E model, and i have had this laptop for a couple of years now.
Before installing windows 7 i had the default Windows Vista installed, and it worked fine.
Now since installing windows 7, ANY game i try and play just causes the laptop to just go black screen and shut down after about 5 - 10 minutes of playing.
I thought this was due to an overheating issue... so i opened the laptop and cleaned it all out, and then put it back together again.
(YES i have checked all wires are back in where they should be and all components are working properly)
This didn't work.
Then i tried updating all my drivers, and software ect.
Still nothing.
I've trawled through pages and pages of search results for the same problems with Windows 7 and game crashing... but nobody seems to know how to fix it.
I thought it was just windows 7, but i re installed windows vista and it's still doing the same thing on there now.
I've tried installing all the drivers from toshibas website for this model laptop and no luck.
My windows vista and windows 7 are both genuine copys.

All the hardware is working normally (as far as im aware) and i really can't see what can be causing this problem.

If anyone could give me some advice on what to do it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite P300 -156 Windows 7 Crash Problem

To be honest it is very strange. Since about a year I use Satellite P300. It worked well with Vista but with Win7 notebook runs much better and I am really happy with it.
This with games confusing me because I play COD4 online from the first day, sometimes hour or two but until now everything goes well.
I didn't notice any difference between game running under Vista or Win7.

Have you upgraded preinstalled Vista or made clean Win7 installation?
Do you use Toshiba display driver?

What is going on and why Toshiba not update the drivers for Satellite P300 on the site?

Answer:Satellite P300-156 - Problem with ATI 3470 Drivers

The reason is why you try to use a driver that is designed for desktop graphic cards and not for notebooks.
It?s on your own risk to use such drivers because they don?t have an overheat protection.

In your case I would remove them and install the newest that you can find on the Toshiba website: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

LED on/off button fix

Satellite P300-13J

By Thom

First off, i'd
like to say that I came up with this fix after a clean reinstall of
vista. (I used the windows serial on the bottom of my laptop to
install, so it's the same license as the OEM windows and thus
completely legal.) After the clean install and installation of all
the drivers listed on the toshiba site the LED on/off button (also
known as mute button) and the CDDVD butten (mediaplayer button)
stopped working. After browsing around the toshiba forums I found
that if I removed the button support utility the mute button acted as
a mute button. Also the mediaplayer button worked fine. Reinstalled
the button support utility, and they stopped working. After numerous
calls to toshiba (I believe about 5-6 on a single day) they opened a
support ticket for me, because they (the callcenter support team)
couldn't come up with a solution. Following their advice I did the
following to try and make it work:

* Did a system restore with the restore DVD.
* Did another clean install.
* installed the drivers in varous ways (alphabetical order, reversed alphabetical order and recovery DVD order).
* updated my BIOS.
* downloaded a "new" version of the value added package (which was the same I allready had).
* installed the VAP with and without button support utility, no changes.
After doing all
of this, they said they didn't know the cause of my problem (at first

I have a problem with my volume control. It worked for the first couple of month's worth of use, but now refuses to turn the sound down.
It sort of stutters and actually turns the sound up when you turn it 'left' to turn it down.

I have tead that this is a digital control and therefore doesn't have an 'end' point like other laptops. I have also noticed others are experieicing this problem.

Is there a solution to this issue? I really don't like having to manually click on the volume control in the tray on window in order to be able to turn the laptop's sound down. Maybe someone can help me?!

Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite Pro P300 - problem with volume control

In your case I would recommend reinstalling the sound driver and the Toshiba controls (with Win XP) or Toshiba VAP (if Vista installed).
Furthermore you should check if the BIOS can be update too?.

Sorry for this universal suggestion but in my opinion the issue must be software related and fact is that sound driver and the VAP controls the sound card and the multimedia buttons?.

It?s definitely worth a try?

I just got a satellite P300-27T which came with Vista Home and wanted to install Vista Ultimate instead.
It had 3 partition (labelled WinRE, Vista and Data).

So I backed up everything (never even logged on that Vista Home version ever), deleted the first two partitions and started to install Vista Ultimate, the beginning of the installation worked fine but it suddenly failed with this message :
"Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed."

Any idea what's causing that and how can I workaround?
I must be missing something obvious here, but can't figure it out. Sorry if this is one of the question that pops up everytime here, but I have not found my install.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi all

Just purchased a Satellite P300-172 laptop, which is great in its self, until you want to play 3D games. Problem being none of the games I have tried to install work unless I disable the conexant sound card first.

Even my old laptop which was a Satellite P10 would play Battlefield 2 with low settings but this P300-172 refuses to play games with the sound card enabled. Does any one know if this problem can be sorted or should I quickly return the laptop while I still have time.......

Thanks for any advice

Answer:Satellite P300-172 - problem with sound card and 3D games

Hi there,
Can you describe, how it is shown, that games don't run? I mean, are you able to enter the main menu of your games?
If so, you should try to disable all sound acceleration and Surround Sound standards like EAX.

Help me more then once.
Make sure you have latest directx and sound card driver version. And of course update your games with latest patches.

I recently took care of my brother's Satellite P300-1C9 laptop (running Vista Home Premium 32-bit) after he reported that the display had suddenly become distorted.
The laptop was not dropped or physically damaged in any way. Multiple sections of the display are slightly shifted vertically giving a "wobbly" look, there are horizontal white lines at various places and small parts of the screen are duplicated. The problem is reproduced when I connect to an external monitor, so it's not a screen issue but something to do with the graphics adapter (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650) or driver.
First thing I tried was to load the default BIOS settings and run the Toshiba HDD recovery from the hidden partition. This appeared to run successfully but after the program completes and Windows is setting up, the system restarts and the screen stays blank. If I restart, press F8 & try to launch safe mode it says "Windows cannot complete installation in Safe Mode. To continue installing Windows, restart the computer". If I press F8 to go back into repair mode and repeat HDD recovery, the same thing happens... and throughout the process, the distorted display remains.
Now I'm stuck - unfortunately, my brother can't find the system recovery DVD he wrote shortly after buying the laptop. Having entered the serial number at the Toshiba Europe Backup Media Online Shop, it states "For your device no recovery medium can be ordered, because it comes either n... Read more

Answer:Satellite P300 (Vista 32-bit) - graphics / display problem

Quick update - I managed to acquire some system recovery DVDs and re-installed Vista successfully... but the graphics problem remains, so it seems to be a hardware issue.

It's probably not worth ordering new hardware (even if I could just replace the graphics adapter without having to switch in a new motherboard) considering the re-sale value of a fully functioning system. Therefore I'll likely be selling the laptop for parts/spares (a pity, as I had considered swapping out the HDD for a SSD and installing Win7...)
