Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

Question: Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

So I installed some new Windows updates today (whatever was available via Windows Update). I restarted my computer to enable the updates. When it came back on, my task bar was white for some reason. I solved that problem using the first solution I found here: [SOLVED] Taskbar is white

Well I didn't change my volume before doing that, so I don't know if it worked before I followed that solution. I do know that after following that solution, my volume meter no longer shows up when I change the volume via the keys for it on my keyboard. This is pretty annoying because it was convenient to always see my audio level when I adjusted the volume.

I am on a HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with beats audio, running Windows 7 64-bit. When I changed my volume, the beats audio logo with a volume meter under it would pop up, but it no longer shows up. I haven't noticed any change in the quality of my sound, and I can still actually adjust the volume level. The problem is the volume meter no longer displays to show me the volume level.

If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, that would be great!

Preferred Solution: Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

Try rolling back any keyboard driver updates, or go to the keyboard manufacturers website and download most up to date driver(s) from there.

Hi all,

I have Toshiba Portege M800, and I have a problem with the volume wheel.
If I try to increase or decrease the volume by this volume wheel, it will change, but the volume not change linear.

For example, when I increase volume from 0 to something, volume is changed, during rolling, e.g. from 0-1-2-3-4-5-3-8-6 (thats just an example).

Why doesn't it change linear, e.g. 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 ?
Is it caused by software or it is hardware problem?

Could I claim the goods?

Thanks.

Answer:Portege M800 - volume wheel issue - volume level jumps

Hi

I have had a similar issue with the volume level on my Satellite notebook.
I tired everything; updated the BIOS, sound driver? I have also reinstalled my OS using the Roecvery disk but I didn?t notice any improvements.

Finally my ASP technician checked the volume wheel and cleaned the contacts and removed some dust.
This was the key?
The dirt affected the volume wheel functionality?

In my cases this helped but this does not mean that this will help you as well.
I think you should also update the BIOS and should check if you could update the sound driver.
If this will not help then it would be recommended to contact the ASP technician for opinion?

For some reason the onscreen display for the volume controls and screen brightness on my W530 stop working after coming back from sleep or resume. I updated Power Management, Hotkey and Interface but the problem still rears its ugly head. If I go into screen resolution and advanced and on screen then uncheck Enable onscreen and recheck it...the controls work again.

Answer:Volume control buttons do not display volume level...

try to reinstall the OSD software. Uninstall the current OSD software that you have, and download the latest version from below.

I've seen plenty of these threads but none of them are eMachines computers. I have an eMachines E525-2200 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Service Pack 1.

The volume hotkey is Fn + arrrow up / arrow down. I press these and I see in the corner that the volume changes, but not the HUD like I'm talking about. I've already updated the driver to the latest version. All suggestions are helpful!

I just got a new ac11 sound bar.
It is impossible to adjust sound volume using its volume knob.
But I am able to adjust sound volume with the windows volume control widget.
My OS is windows 7 .

I tried my ac511 on another laptop, the volume knob works well.So I guess the hardware is all right.
Could anyone help me with this?
Thanks very much!

Answer:AC511 SOUND BAR,could not adjust sound volume with volume knob

Based on your tests, the AC511 hardware is ok.* Turn the comptuer and monitor off* Mount the AC511 to the monitor slots after removing the plastic strips* Plug the AC511 USB cable + USB extension cable directly into the Windows 7 computer USB port* Turn the monitor on, then the computer* Re-test

Question: Volume Meter

Not sure if this belongs here, but I posted in Sound/Audio and got no responses.
I assume this is probably something you can change is Regedit.

When I press my FN keys that control volume, the +volume and -volume do not make the metro style volume bar show up. However, when I press mute, it shows the volume bar. When I press mute/unmute and then +volume and -volume, the bar shows up and it slides, but it quickly disappears even though I keep changing the volume.

Here are images of the bar I am talking about just to clarify

I had something very similar on my desktop. One day the volume meter worked and then for almost a week didn't show up at all. Then all of a sudden it re-appeared and has been working ever since. During this anomaly, there were some MS updates, so not sure if that had anything to do with it. All is working fine now.

I've recently reinstalled my L420 using my own disk (recovery partition got wiped) and since then I'm having trouble with the volume meter.
Almost every time that a sound is played by the computer it pops up. Even when the sound is muted.
Screenshot is below:

It's almost identical to the problem described here but I don't have an external monitor attached.
I've tried using the update from that page, but it's still happening.

Answer:L420 volume meter popping up

Hello WildBlueRhino,

If you do not need the Volume indicator then you just need to unsinstall the Lenovo Power Management and Power Manager from the Programs and Features under control Panel. You may download the driver from the below mentioned web link as per your Operating System.

Hi guys,

Today I noticed that the little volume meter next to each device under "Recording Devices" (Right-click your little speaker in the task bar and select Recording Devices) has disappeared. I know it disappeared either today or yesterday. I haven't done anything that could have messed with it. Do you guys know how I can get it back?

Thanks

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

I have a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista installed.

The XPS M1530 has a volume increase decrease button on the keyboard and when pressed it activates the dell quickset display which shows the volume bar increasing/decreasing.

My problem is it takes ages to move. If the volume is at its lowest setting and i hold the increase button its takes almost 10 seconds to full volume.

You may say ten seconds thats not long. Well then hold any key on your keyboard and count to ten. You will see it feels alot longer.

Is there anyway in windows to increase the speed of this volume increase?

Hi

I have a Dell Studio 17 laptop running on Vista.

It has 'media buttons' above the keyboard and when I use the volume controls I would get an on screen meter come up to display the volume level. At some point the volume meter has vanished and no longer appears - I can turn the volume up and down with the buttons just no on screen dispaly of the meter.

Through a bit of web browsing I have established that this is controlled by Dell Quickset. I have uninstalled and reinstalled quickset and ensured that the option to have an on screen volume meter is enabled via the icon in the taskbar. In the process now when adjusting the monitor brightness I get a brightness meter which I never had in the first place! But still no volume meter!

Can anyone help? Could my virus protection be blocking it? I say this as when I turn the computer on and use the buttons to control the volume the on screen display wil appear once but never again!

All help welcome!

Thanks
Oliver.

I don't know how it happened, but recently, the sound has gotten all screwed up. It seems to be set to an unbearably low volume at maximum. I can hear the asterisk system sound, but the others must be too quiet to hear. I can hear my MP3s and some other sound files, but they are so soft I can't hear them well at all. even when WinAmp is set to 100% volume. Turning the knob on my speakers has no effect at all.

I can hear sounds online (such as the Crazy Frog movie: http://dd0s.org/~wooolf/crazyfrog/ ), but the volume is rather quiet.

Using the Volume Control, I find that nothing is muted, and everything is at maximum. I can lower the volume to make it even quieter, but I can't make it louder (since it's at maximum).

I am currently using NVIDIA nForce drivers (the most recent ones)...in fact, I just installed these new ones, hoping it would fix my problem, to no avail.

I use WinXP Home, SP1.

What can I do?

Hey guys,

I posted this earlier in the Multimedia thread but was told to post it here.

I have been having trouble with my sound this past week. Is stays at 100%. I try to slide my volume, but it quickly goes back to 100%. I don't know what the problem is. I have ran dxdiag and it says there are no problems found. My speakers are Conexant High Definition SmartAudio. I have tried pretty much everything: googling it, but no answers there.

I do believe my roommate has something to do with it. He went to high school for technology, and after a dispute over my music being too loud he said he would start to control my volume. Some time during the week, I had found my computer had mysteriously restarted. So this has led me to believe that he has installed a program, which allows him to control my volume. I want to make sure he's doing this, so he can face the consequences. I just need your help. Is there something installed in my computer? What can I do to get rid of it?

There's also another strange thing that occurred. After posting this in the Multimedia thread, my volume somehow became adjustable again. Weird. I now have a feeling he can see what I do on my computer, and realized I posted this? I am so confused. I just would like answers.

Thanks so much beforehand. My operating system is Windows Vista and I have an HP Notebook PC, if that helps.

Answer:Can't adjust volume etc

you may need to reinstall your sound card drivers
go to control panel, then Sounds and Audio devices
click on the Audio tab
and under Sound Playback, see if there's anything listed there
if not, chances are you need to reinstall those drivers

(Windows XP Home) When I attempt to adjust the volume using the slider on the Volume tab of the Sounds and Audio Devices section of the control panel, the volume gets louder as I drag the slider over, and then (without even releasing the mouse button), the volume automatically decreases as the slider moves to it's lowest position. It's as if the volume is pegged "low" elsewhere in the system, and the slider must reflect that value despite my trying to adjust it. TIA for any assistance.

I thought these were toggled through the properties menu for the screen display, but apparently not.Well, I initially had them going but lost them somehow, probably in an acute rush of ineptitude, because I deleted most of the Thinkvantage utilities from my 3-day old-system (that's how long I tolerated them.... a record of sorts; liked the old Configuration setup better). I'm guessing I'll need to reinstall to get those little features back but if that's the case, does the ThinkVantage suite come with a pick-and-choose option? The default setup just seemed to insist on crippling my TP with too many virtual in-your-face training wheels....I've gone through three Thinkpads decade to date, and now I'm luvin' No. 4 (this R61e). It replaces a trusty T30 that lasted me just over 5 years, 24/7 (till the video cable assembly died).... Great display, comfortable keyboard, plenty fast for my needs, hope it lasts me another 5.

Hi Photosky,
After going through the above mentioned thread’s link and also after you mentioned that you have reinstalled the drivers, lets perform another step here and I hope this helps.

Plug your headphone jack in the audio in port.
Right Click on the volume speaker icon on the bottom right hand side on the desktop..
Select Playback devices
Then right click on your headphone icon
Select properties
Go to the levels tab and set the volume as per your wish.
Click Apply / Ok

Now unplug the headphone and plug it back in and check if this helps. Awaiting for your response.

This may be an HP problem. I'm not sure. When I open the speaker settings, the display shows the volume set at 100%, yet, I can barely hear the soundtrack of a DVD I am watching just inches away. I have tried using the sliding volume at the top of the keyboard as well as the volume control in the media player, which will only increase volume to 50% in Windows Media Player. Still too low for me. I can lower (from 50%) or mute the volume- just not increase it. Has anyone else had this problem? I would love to know how to fix this. Thanks!

Did you right-click on the audio settings. The master volume may be maxed but all the other volumes lowered (this has happened to me before). If that's not the case, use the device manager to uninstall the speakers and then reboot (the speaker should reinstall)

Question: Volume level

This is really weird, and I've tried WinXP forums and Microsoft to try to find the reason and solution for this, and haven't gotten any response or found anything like it. My volume level changes by itself. I'll set the volume using the icon in the systray to halfway between the bottom and the top, and it'll stay that way for a while, even if I restart the computer. But if I leave the computer and come back, the volume will be at the bottom again. No one else uses the computer, so it's not a case of someone else changing it. I have a locally made computer running Windows XP. Other than the OS itself, the programs I have installed that use sound are Winamp and Real Player, but the volume changes even if I haven't used either of them. What could be the problem?

Don't forget your punctuation, it makes it easier to understand As far as this part, are you talking about in media player or a game or what? Do you mean the volume meter that sits in the system tray? If so, click start, control panel, sounds and audio devices, click "place volume icon in the taskbar"

My new laptop seems hardwired to think that if I set the volume to 20, so long as I have headphones in, I want my volume at 20 for all sounds, ever. This makes music which varies from quiet and loud feel extremely alien and even ruins the feel of some videos and games. But it's most notable when watching a youtube video and I change the volume. Turning it up makes the video louder for a split second before returning to what it was, turning it down? Well, that works for a few seconds and returns to being too loud.

My new laptop uses HP Beats Audio. While I'm currently blaming Windows 8 for this problem, it'd be silly not to mention it. Unfortunately, a google search didn't get me any answer for beats either except how to uninstall it.

This doesn't happen on my old Laptop, which runs Windows 7 and appears to lack a special audio device. Looking online for a fix has only returned me nonsense about Windows 8 reducing volume for communications devices (a feature which I have off). In my search, I found this bit of information from Winsupersite.com:

"Incidentally, Windows 8?s new Metro-style volume controls lack many of the more sophisticated controls that are available via the desktop. There?s no way to control the volume of individual Metro-style apps, for example, and that?s true of both the new Metro volume controls and the legacy desktop interfaces. Instead, the system automatically controls app volume, muting or lowering the volume of background apps when needed."... Read more

Answer:Volume is set at a certain level

I don't recall seeing another post about this specific problem, although I have not looked at every post on this forum, thus I would consider it a problem in the PC, not Windows 8.

I have seen several problems with the Beats Audio, which is an "enhancement" to the audio chip that is being used.

You can try temporarily disabling the Beats Audio and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise with a new PC, which should be in warranty, I would contact HP support (or take it back for an exchange if you bought it locally and have a return option).

Question: Volume level

I want to make my audio louder for music. All of my settings on my computer are turned up and my head phones are turned up. But I am looking for a way to make them louder. With everything turned up it seems like a 6.5-7 volume. I want to make it a 10-11. I want to have to turn down my headset volume controller because my headphones are to loud.

Answer:Volume level

You will need to either use headphones that are more sensitive (ie that have a greater sound output for a given input) or use the amplifier in a set of powered speakers with a headphone socket. Powered speakers can deliver more power than a computer sound card can.

Be aware that extremely high sound levels in headphones can damage your hearing.

I'm running Windows XP Professional with Realtek HD Audio. In my Master Volume mixer when I go to "Options" and then "Properties" Realtek HD Audio Output is selected as the Mixer device and "Playback" is ticked. "Recording" is shaded. When I bring the volume adjusters up there's all the sliders and under each slider is a box marked "Mute". If I change the Mixer device to Realtek HD Audio input "Recording" is ticked and "Playback" is shaded. When I bring up the volume adjusters for recording there's the sliders, each with a box marked "Mute" underneath, except all of the sliders, except "Recording" are shaded out. "CD Volume" "Mic Volume" "Line Volume" and "Stereo Mix" are all shaded.

In Realtek's Mixer those devices don't even HAVE sliders.

Any ideas why I can't adjust my levels?

I have an HP pavillion laptop which has a switch near the monitor for volume.  This switch is obviously for increasing and decreasing volume and there is also another switch to mute the system volume and this is smack dab in the center of the up/down switch for volume.  I first noticed a problem when I tried to use a USB mouse with the scroll wheel.  When you push the scroll wheel down you should get an icon and you can pan across the page really fast.  Well the icon shows up and dissappears almost immediately.  Tried to watch a you-tube video, and the sound was down low.  Try to turn the sound up, and the system mutes and unmutes (when trying to increase the volume).  I tried opening the volume properties on the task bar and dragging the volume control up.  When you do so, the volume turns itself back down (slowly, as if you are pushing the volume down button repeatedly).  Ive gone into a couple of other volume menus and don't have such luck.  When you push the volume down button on the keyboard, it doesn't have any effect on the muting or un-muting.  The system only mutes and unmutes when you actually hit the mute button or when you use the volume "up" button.  I restarted the computer, and I always get a window for my quick-launch buttons (file corrupted or missing) been like that for years.  Anyway, I did the usual to clear that out (hit the space-bar) nothing happened, I actually had to ... Answer:cannot adjust system volume and other problems.

Keep in mind, this USB mouse I have also used for about two years with no problems.  One other thing, whenever I am on a website (like craigslist) where you scroll down, click on something and view whatever you are viewing.  Then click the back arrow to go back to searching, I have to start at the top of the page instead of coming back where I left off (it never used to be like this).

Greetings, I just received my new inspiron 7459. I have a PS4 connected to the HDMI IN port. How do I mute or decrease the volume when using this port? The hardware buttons on the side of the monitor only seem to adjust the screen brightness.
The keyboard commands for adjusting volume work fine when using the computer itself, but do nothing when the PS4 is being used.
Thanks!

Answer:Not Able to Adjust Volume Levels in Mixer.

I'm not following you entirely, but have you tried (R) clicking on the "mute box" selection when it appears? Does the speaker icon in the task bar have a red "X" on it? Have you gone to "system" in the control panel...than selected 'hardware' to get a look at 'device manager' and what see what it's saying? On your sound mixer click on everything that has a red "x" on it. I'm not meaning to oversimplify, but I think you will discover an easy way out of this problem once you know how to handle the Window mixer console.

My system volume is very high, and 15 seconds later or something close to that the volume goes back up to max. this is really irritating, because when i get a notification or use cortana it hurts my ears, and when i change the volume it goes back up... Can someone please help me keeping the volume down?

Answer:How do i keep the system volume to a certain level?

You could try reducing the volume of system sounds only, not the main volume. Right click on the speaker icon and select Open Volume Mixer. Then set the system sound to minimum or even mute them if you don't need them. See if you have a problem again. I suspect some application interferes and restores main volume to max. To see your applications and uninstall it, click on the search icon and type Control. This will show you the classic (desktop version) Control Panel. Click to open it and then click on View by Large icons to see all controls. Click on Program and Features and wait for it to load. See if you have any application relative to sound that may cause the problem. If you have or can download the audio drivers, it is a good idea to try uninstalling and reinstalling them to see if your problem fixes.

Ladies and Gentlemen your assistance please:Sony Vaio FJ3N running XPsp3:Put in a Region 1 DVD and was prompted to install Interactual Player2 to give full functionality/access to the disk. Foolishly agreed. DVD subsequently ran, but I needed full volume to hear it and it had changed my screen res??Tried to change the screen res to discover usual 5 settings were now reduced to 3!Uninstalled ?Interactual Player? to no avail. Finally completed a system restore. 5 levels of screen res now returned, but still need volume level at max to hear any CD/DVD properly. Other Windows sounds not associated with the DVD/CD play at normal levels. The only other thing of note is that my DVD region is now 2 with no changes left..Any tips?

Answer:Volume level at max but quieter?!

Region settingThere are actually up to 3 region protections on a system:- 1 in the DVD drive- 1 in the Operating System (windows) - More info on Windows region management.- 1 in the software player (eg. WinDVD, PowerDVD...)When you flash your drive with a region free firmware (RPC-1), you remove the region counter from the drive itself completely, but with this counter gone, the software counters kick in to replace the one from the DVD drive. This means that you still have these other 2 to defeat!!!.An alternate region free solution that is available for some drives is known as an "Autoreset" firmware: Instead of removing the counter from the drive completely, the counter simply resets itself to an unlocked state when the computer is restarted. This way, the drive appears as region protected (RPC-2) but the counter can be changed indefinitely. Creating autoreset patches is slightly more difficult for the patcher, but makes the life of the user easier because DVD Genie and Region Killer are not required as they are for RPC-1 firmwares. On the other hand, it's easy for software manufacturers to detect autoreset firmwares, and if they decide to do so, you will still need a software patch in the long run. This is why RPC-1 firmwares are seen by most as the long term solution. So, unless a program like DISCInfo click here or Drive Region Info tells you that your drive is still protected or you used an autoreset firmware, your drive IS region free, and any region counters that you st... I have been struggling with trying to find a fix for this for a long time now. I have searched various forums and tried the couple suggestions that seemed to be offered for similar issues but nothing has worked. I have no other serious issues with W7 but this is REALLY annoying and making me want to re-install XP.

Regardless of what I'm doing my volume level continuously changes. It's too loud..then too quiet. Sometimes it's fine for long periods then other times it changes every 5-10 seconds. It does this all on it's own with me doing NOTHING! I have tried putting the setting in the sound communications tab to "do nothing" and have also disabled all sound effects in the speaker properties to eliminate that loudness equalization option but nothing has worked. This also happens in a wide variety of programs so I doubt this is an application problem. It happens in several games, it happens watching Youtube videos and happens randomly with any number of websites with sound. It goes so quiet I can't hear so I turn it up..then 10 seconds later the volume goes back to where it was and blasts my eardrums out. I can't keep the volume at a steady level and it's DRIVING ME INSANE! Hlep!

BTW, I'm using W7 64 bit with onboard Realtek HD sound. I should also have all updated drivers as far as I know. Anyone have any info on this?

Answer:Volume level continuously changes

I'm also experiencing this problem.
I'm not sure if it's the drivers problem or the recent update for RealTek Drivers.
It gets really frustrating, plus given the fact my computer recently crashes and restarts randomly ever since I updated my realtek driver.
RealTek and/or Microsoft needs to address these sound issues ASAP.
I know I'm not the only that wishes not to upgrade to Windows 7 if I knew the problems and issues that were going to come with them.

I'm at the end of my rope with my volume issue. I'm running Win 7 64 Pro with a Creative X-FI Gamer card (latest drivers).

The issue: Master volume keeps resetting to 30%. Noticed it happens when I bring my PC out of standby, and when I run certain apps like Creative's sound panel. I've tried the "Do Nothing" option on the Comms tab, and also tried unchecking the Exclusive Mode options which give apps direct control over the sound card. Nothing works.

Is there a way to set the master volume in the registry and/or create a task which runs periodically to adjust the volume to where I want it? Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Answer:Volume level keeps resetting to 30%

This is usually a function of a corrupted driver or some other application "taking over" the sound card's volume control. However, I've seen this problem on some older Dell's with SoundBlaster sound cards and that turned out to be a BIOS problem. Clearing the BIOS fixed the old Dell PC problem.

Can not access sndvol.exe to create a shortcut to allow keyboard to control volume.

I am using a Standard PS2 wired keyboard for my HP Elite 8000 system. Details in my signature.

I discovered the following and wish to implement with my basic keyboard:

1) click your start menu. Type ?sndvol? in the search box at the bottom
2) Right-click-drag the sndvol program icon to your desktop and select the ?Create shortcuts here? option
3) Right click on the new shortcut and hit properties
4) Go to the shortcut tab, and click inside the ?shortcut key? box.
5) Make your shortcut key combo. For example I use ALT + F12. Hit apply and OK to close the dialogue box.

Although I am Administrator, I am being blocked from shortcut key which indicated "None" at the moment, to make create a shortcut to do what is suggested in the above instructions.

Can anyone advise a way to unblock (allow) me; or a workaround to adjust my volume and add a mute button shortcut from my keyboard (preferably from the up/ down arrows on the numeric pad) without going to a third party software or a purchasing new keyboard?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all - long time since I last posted. I now have a Media Edition setup on my pc. I just purchased a soundcard with SPDIF out which works fine but. THe only way I can adjust the volume for this connection is via the Wave slider in the Volume control. If I move the master volume, it does not do anything bar if it is all the way down, mutes the sound. I need to have the master volume adjust, because using media edition, it is not possible to adjust the volume via the remote unless muting. Hi everybody,

My problem is that I cannot adjust the volume of video clips 'normally' when using Media Player Classic. Whenever I use this program, it does not allow me to increase/decrease the volume on my default volume scale, instead, it uses a built-in volume scale and therefore forces me to use that stupid scale.

How can I disable this annoying feature of Media Player Classic so that I can adjust the volume as normally as when I use other programs.

Thanks in advance!

1. Open Media Player Classic > View > Options > Playback > Output > Change to either your sound card name or DirectSound then apply.

2. Open up my computer

4. Delete the Media player classic folder

5. Restart.

Greetings everybody,

This is not a problem, but an inconvenience. When I plug in my headphones the level of volume is very loud. Meaning the volume doesn't automatically go down a bit. Hell, this isn't safe...

Is there a way for the Windows 7 audio program to remember my audio level for the headphones, which is 4 instead of 100... I bet a few of you have encountered this.

I always have to waste a few seconds manually switching the volume level.

I've included an attachment, as you can see there, there is no "Headphones". This is when I have my headphones plugged in, also it is the same as when they're plugged out. It appears that my headphones are not being recognized as a different device.

They really aren't a device unless they're USB headphones. (but that's another story) The audio card mechanically switches the connections so you're getting the same output normally going to speakers.

At least that's the way it is on my system.... and yes, the phones are too loud.

I have looked in every setting going for audio, there are all up on max and the mic boost is up also.
I really can't work out what the problem is?

Its like i have to shout into my mic for anyone to hear.
Has anyone got any ideas what this could be? I've searched google,

Thank you all in advance for your help

Answer:Equium L20 - low microphone volume level

Maybe you should set the volume to a higher level on your headset.
My headset supports such volume controller?
Maybe you should also try a different mic?

To be honest the only settings which could have a influence on the mic can be found in the control panel -> sound and audio devices

My in my settings I?ve got enabled the mute (marked) in microphone settings and enabled the Mic2 Select and Mic Boost?

Other mic settings don?t exist

I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking software to control my computer because of a disability and its recognition is terrible with the volume level setting that high! In the settings I don't have it set for the software to take control of the microphone so I don't believe that Dragon is doing this.

I've gone so far as to recalibrate the microphone settings for Dragon with me talking extremely loud and another time with me talking extremely soft yet the microphone keeps resetting itself to 81 no matter what I do. I know there has to be some solution to this problem but I'm not sure what it is.

Any help and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Driver version Realtek HD 2.23 drivers. When ever I go in the options settings of garrys mod it resets my speaker volume and garrys mod volume to 10% any idea why it would be doing this?

Answer:Sound volume level's changing?

It is not the driver it is windows communications, in the sound properties switch to the communications tab and set it to "do nothing"

To change the volume level on Linux just put the little arrow-click on the audio icon on the taskbar and use the mouse wheel without having to click. This is possible in Windows Seven, changing some configuration in the system?

Answer:How to Change volume level only with mousewheel

To change volume level is to change volume level in some application. So for example winamp and VLC media player will allow you to scroll the wheel to adjust volume change, this is set in the preferences of those applications. Like wise in other media applications, you just need to fiddle around. I don't know about doing this for the desktop/system sounds.

I have noticed that sometimes when using an app that the volume level is reset to the default 13 rather than my preferred 25. This only seeems to be for some apps and the overall app volume setting remains set to 25. Does it need the apps to be updated to recognise how the volume level settings are used in 8.1?

I have a lenovo ideapad Z570 laptop. I bought the one without any OS on it. Using windows 7 Ultimate i couldnt get the on screen volume and brightness level indicators to work. Then i read in another thread in this forum that i should install lenovo energy management and then uninstall the program features i dont want. I didnt want the energy management function but just the volume and brightness level indicators so i tried to change the program installation by clicking change in the uninstall a program bit of windows but I cant select which components to uninstall when i do that. I can either uninstall the entire energy management program which also uninstalls the level indicators i want or dont uninstall anything. Can someone tell me what i should do to get the level indicators back on screen without lenovo energy management?

Answer:On screen volume level indicators

you need to install power management.

Hey,

When I use noise canceling headphones with my computer (dell inspiron 1525 running XP sp3) the volume is way too loud. Even with the volume slider in the taskbar at the lowest possible volume its still too loud.

Is there a more precise way to control the volume level in XP? (such as entering a number value from 1 to 100 to set the volume, etc.)

I would be willing to use 3rd party programs (if they exist).

Thanks

Answer:[SOLVED] controling volume level in XP

Go to Control Panel --> Sound and Audio Devices and click on Advanced under Device volume. You should have a bunch of sliders there. Try turning one down at a time to see which one affects your headphones.

Even though the volume level is to the highest, audio on my X60s is very low. Am I missing something to get louder volume?ThanksErwin

Answer:Volume level on Lenovo X60s

Hi Westywannabe,

How long have you had your system and what operating system are you using?

Sometimes it depends on what headphones or speakers you are using.
It can also depend on what program you are using to play your media.
What media player ar eyou using?
Is the volume turned up in the program?

Try this:
right click speakers on taskbar
click playback devices
right click the speakers you're using
click properties
make adjustments as need to tone, levels, and enhancements

Let us know if that helps.

I`m using Windows 10 Pro and PS/2 keyboard DELL and just want to know is it possible to create short key to set the sound level directly with the keyboard when play video.
My keyboard is not multimedia keyboard.
When you watch youtube (for example) it have way to regulate audio level with the keyboard, but some others players nave not this option.
I know it have many hotkeys in Windows 10.
It will be helpfull to know hotkey to open even just my nvidia hd audio scale, which icon is located in the taskbar on the right side when i play video on full screen mode, if it`s possible.
I made Ctrl+Alt+C hotkey to open Windows sounds, just as is described into that post here:http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/56892-sound-shortcuts-create.html

G'morning all,

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit on an A8N-SLI Premium with a X-Fi XtremeMusic with the v2.15.0004 drivers. My speakers are about five years old, they're a set of Altec Lansing ADA995 5.1 that I got from Dell along with my first computer. They have no hardware controls except for a dial on the sub that controls bass level.

Vista's volume level seems to be much higher than XP.

If I listen to a song in Vista with Winamp with Winamp's volume turned up to 100%, and the Volume Mixer>Speakers slider set to 1, and Sound>Playback>Speakers>Properties>Levels>Play Control showing up as 0 (when I turn the Volume Mixer>Speakers slider up to 7, Play Control level changes to 1), the volume is uncomfortably high for me sitting about two-three feet away from the three front speakers.

Is this simply another situation where Vista's driver framework, or whatever, is showing a difference from XP (perhaps also combined with my older semi-crappy speakers)?

Or is there something I can do somewhere?

Thanks!

Hello everyone. I have a user at work whose sounds stays only at one volume level when he listens to music CDs. I tried almost everything to solve this problem. I went into the add/remove programs applet to remove the multimedia component and reinstalled it. Also there is not even a icon for the sound in the lower tray or in the control panel. He's running Win NT workstation. Nothing seems to work...Please help its driving me crazy.

Note: I can go into Find files and find the executable file for the volume control which i believe is volsnd32.exe and I get an error message that states:
"There are no mix devices installed on your system. Please install the correct drivers for the mix devices."

Answer:Sound stays at one volume level

All of what you said means that the correct sound card drivers are not installed for NT.

What brand and model sound card is it?

I am moving this to the NT forum too, since this is not a 9x question.

Hi,

As the topic suggests, is there any way to permanently lock the mic volume level so no applications no nothing but me myself can change it?

Reason I ask is for some reason my microphone volume level keeps resetting by itself. I like to have it at about 75% but all of a sudden it has dropped to 18% making my voice barely audible in audio recordings and sometimes I find it at 100% making my voice too loud.

I already did some Google searching and looks like this problem is very common and usually caused by applications such as Skype etc automatically adjusting the mic volume level. In my case I'm not running any of those "normal" applications but instead I'm running some special addon applications for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. My guess is one or a few of these are causing my issue but since I need these applications I can't solve the problem by getting rid of them. Instead I need to find a way to "lock" the mic volume if that is possible?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Guess I should also mention I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Many thanks in advance!

Answer:Is there any way to permanently lock the mic volume level?

Programs are supposed to return the audio levels to what they were when you exit the program. Unfortunately many programs don't do that and leave the audio levels where they were in that program. In the case of "back acting" programs, if there are audio setups in the program you could set the mic level for what you want and then when you exit those "bad acting" programs it wouldn't change and be at the level you want.

Another possibility is a utility program that you could run and reset the levels to what you want. I saw reference to a utility recently on here. I'll try to find it and post back.

The thread is in the Windows8 forum. Here: http://www.eightforums.com/sound-aud...lume-boot.html It is for a set volume level at boot, but as its just a utility, it could be run anytime.

Hi guys, basically I have purchased a behringer c-1u, of course before I did some research and there were issues with the volume. Now that I have it, I have the same issue that many people with the mic also have, and that is with the volume it records at. In the windows sound mixer the recording level is set to high, however I still have to be really close to the mic to get a decent volume back.

The light on the mic is also green, and according to several sources is meant to be blue to indicate phantom power. I have checked my motherboard website and the ports are USB 2.0 so phantom power should be working, otherwise the mic wouldn't work right?

So yeah I have seen vids on youtube where people have the mic 5-6 inches away and record perfectly without any problems..but for some reason I have to record like 1 inch away and the response will still be low..

Also I am using cool edit pro 2.0, if that is any help..and after recording, I can turn the volume of the clip up without the quality messing up, however being a condenser mic I shouldn't be having to increase volume and recording from an inch away..

So yeah I'm curious to find out whether phantom power is the problem and how I can sort it, and if it isn't then how I can adjust the volumes..

Thanks before hand

I have toshiba l50-b-235 laptop with built-in Onkyo stereo speakers, enhanced by DTS Sound, Skullcandy certified and now all of sudden since upgrading to windows 10 from windows 8 the volume is really low (it has dropped around 50%). what can i do to fix it

Answer:Why has my volume level gone very low since upgrading to Windows 10?

Open Control Panel > in the upper right make sure to "View By:" Large Icons
Device Manager > find "Sound, video and game controllers" > expand the list in that category > right click on the device that controls your audio > uninstall > you will need to reboot your system to effect the changes
Device Manager > Sound, video and yada > expand > audio controller (should have a yellow triangle with an exclamation point) > right click > install drivers > install automatically > reboot
1 Open Hidden Icons in taskbar
2 Right click audio controller and select "Sound Manager" or "Properties" or whichever lets you make adjustments right to the sound card master control

I have several symptoms:1- Randomly volume level automatically increases. I can not reduce the level as it automatically keeps going up. BTW... the Volume control is selected when I open it up. It's like I have a stuck volume key on my wireless keyboard.2- Can't use Alt Tab to tab between open applications3- the task bar will not display the DWM view or small view of any app that is running when you roll the mouse over the app in the taskbar.System is a HP TouchSmart model 610 (so it has a touchscreen, wireless mouse and wireless keyboard.I've tried different wireless sets of keyboard/mouse and different transceivers but the problem exists. I've even tried usb wired keyboards & mice and the problem will still occur. To temporarily fix the issue, I put the system to sleep and then immediately wake it back up. I know power is cut to the usb controller. I also know that the touch screen and all input devices are usb devices. I've already been down the route of looking at drivers (re-installing) which had no impact on the issue. So far the only thing in common is the USB controller or HW/firmware. I think this may be a firmware issue with the usb controller but I'm not 100% sure. Does anyone have any other clues that may help me track this down?

Answer:Volume level automatically increases

If you can't find a solution their is another way. You might not want to spend the money as I did. I have an Exterior Hard drive and Acronis True Image for making a backup. I can make a backup of everthing on my computer. At the very first when I bought my HP computer i create the 3 DVD (have more just in case their needed) that allows me to restore my computer back to like it came from the Factory. (located in All Programs) I can restore my computer back to like it came from the Factory. Install Acronis True Image and if needed I can use the backup I made. This will also works on a blank new hard drive. --------------------------- If after the Factory install and you still have the same problem you described than it's not corrupt files but your computer electronic that's at fault.I don't really need a computer, It's just entertainment for me. You can run Error Checking ---------- sfc /scannow -- I can't say it they will help. You can use what Microsoft calls Clean Boot ----- You can - Start - Control Panel - Backup and Restore - Create a system repair disc --- Use a CD for this.
