Program in processes but not application.

Question: Program in processes but not application.

Trying to use a map making program for a video game. Worked fine for the past week, for whatever reason it suddenly won't show up in applications anymore.

I can load it and it seems to load fine (if I load another version and connect to the game server it gives me an error saying, "Client already connected").

When I look into Task Manager it is listed under processes, but not applications.

Please help.
TY!

Preferred Solution: Program in processes but not application.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Program in processes but not application.

Quote:

I can load it and it seems to load fine

Go to Task Manager, end the process. Scroll through the list and make sure there are no other process started associated with the program.
Start the program, it should start and run now.

Anyone know of a tool that will show processes below the application layer that Task Manager shows in WinXP? The key being an app manager or process tool that will show processes below the application layer that's visable in Task Manager.

I tried searching for the answer, but got frustrated so I just ask ya'll.
I'm on a recently new pc and noticed that certain programs do not terminate when I exit
them. Especially Adobe Acrobat is aggrivating. But I've never seen this before in a pc and
wondered if it is just a setting on this new system I need to change?
This happens whether I "X" out of the programs,
or use their 'proper' close buttons.

The processes manually terminate easily within task manager.
I don't have a running list of the programs,
but Acrobat, Nero and Total Video Converter are
three that I remember.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I recently disabled several processes in XP on my laptop to speed it up. Everything seemed fine and it's running much faster than before, until I went to install something.

http://www.synaptics.com/en/drivers.php

I downloaded and unzipped the generic driver at the top of the list (foot of the page) which says it's for XP 32 bit, but when I try to run it I get the error message ''Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application.''

I'm pretty sure that I must have disabled whatever process is required to run such applications, and attach a screenshot of the running processes in Task Manager in the hope that someone will be able to tell me which process I should turn back on again, so that I can install this software.

Answer:Disabled processes, now can no longer run Win32 application

I know that this may sound obvious...... but have you tried a "cold" start ?

A "cold" start is when you shut the computer down completely.  Remove the power source (for a PC remove the plug from the wall socket, for a laptop remove the battery).  Go make yourself a cup of coffee or tea or whatever.  Take a walk around the garden.  Listen to the birds.  Smell the roses.......  Then return the power source, restart and login as the Administrator.

Now recheck the Processes.

I am running Adobe Flash Professional CC on a Toshiba AMD laptop running Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

None of the dialog windows in Flash CC function properly; the window opens but the buttons don't work. Some dialog windows cause the application to lock and I have to close it via Task Manager.
I wonder if another process is conflicting with Flash Pro CC.

I've attached a screenshot of all the processes that are running. I've checked each process on the excellent site:
Windows startup programs - Database search and I don't see an obvious culprit.

Does anyone see a process that I should get rid of? Or do you have any other suggestions?
The computer has recently been scanned by CC Cleaner, MalwareBytes, Avast Free Anti-virus and SpyBot.

Answer:Are background processes causing my application to lock?

Your screen print shows you have 62 processes running but there are not 62 processes in the list.
You need to click Show processes from all users to see all the processes running.

This morning a message box popped up in the middle of my screen and said something like "Google Chrome is not able to write to it's directory" but I don't even have Google Chrome installed. I went to Task Manager and noticed several processes running with Google Chrome as the description, but the processes are named "yzcuofj.exe". This seemed odd, so I was searching the web for help and came across this website. I'm a little hesitant to start downloading and running executable files, for fear of "fake helpers" getting people to download malware/viruses, but this site seems pretty legit...so here goes! I'm guessing the first thing you'll ask me to do is run FRST? (although I've seen in other threads you've asked users to run ZOEK or RogueKiller or TDSSKiller, etc)

Re-run FRST.exe as you did before ...
Download fixlist.txt that you find attached at the bottom of this post and save it same place you
Press the Fix button once and wait.
FRST will process fixlist.txt
When finished, it will produce a log fixlog.txt and will keep that log in the same folder where FRST.exe is.

Hiya

The User Interface Process Application Block provides a simple yet extensible framework for developing user interface processes. It is designed to abstract the control flow and state management out of the user interface layer into a user interface process layer. This helps you write generic code for the control flow and state management for different applications types (for example, Web and Windows) and helps manage user's tasks in complex scenarios (for example, suspending and resuming stateful tasks).

System Requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003

Microsoft Windows® 2000, Windows XP Professional or Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1
Visual Studio .NET (recommended but not required)

It shoes that mem usage is frozen to it´s state. Programs can be anything from Word to Photoshop or FlashFXP. What is this?! Help plz!

Most have to be " stopped " and then "disabled" for the process to be halted . Try microsofts new anti-spyware app , it will do it for you also.

Hi: Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to shut down all un-necessary programs/processes all at once before playing a game? Thanks,

Answer:Program to Shut Down Processes?

This should not be necessary unless your system is aged.

If you really feel this just has to be, then you might look at MSCONFIG to control your startup at boot time.

I noticed this problems few days ago after i installed Giant antispyware program. In the istallation something went wrong and i/xp accidentally started three Giant processes. Those processes could not be ended from the task manager, even the application was shut down. One of the applications left errorized "ghost window" on the screen. Later the same thing happened with Photoshop. I started the program and then closed it, but the process remained even though i managed to kill the appllication after a while. Now it happened with DivX player. I had no problems killing the application, but the process cannot be ended. The End Task-button just doesent do a thing.
Im running Win Xp + SP2

Answer:Some program processes cannot be ended

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Is this a common problem with XP?
Because the shut down-command cannot end all the processes, i cant shut down windows properly too.

I like to play some Battlefield 2 but the damn thing runs like a pig, even on my reasonably powerful machine. I'd like to shut down all the unneccesary system processes before I go in to maybe squeak a few more frames out of it. However I don't want to have to go into the processes and shut each one down individually every time I want to play. Is there a program out there that will shut down all unnecessary processes with a couple clicks?

I have a problem,
I have multiple instances of same program(exe file) in the processes, even though there's supposed to be only one or none.
This never happened to me before and yeah, its not too good for my cpu, since it's usage is increased.

I am looking to find a freeware program to get rid of unwanted processes in the background. Today all of a sudden things are running slow when trying to bring screens up eg; double clicking on my computer and there being a longer delay then usual. I just defragged the hardrive so I know it isn't from that. I am a little suspicious of unwanted background programs because I ran ad-aware a few days ago and had 12, but now I have 15 and have no clue what they are. Doing a ctrl-alt-del doesn't bring them up and only brings up teh ones that I do want running. I have run a virus scan as well and nothing was turned up. So if anyone knows of a freeware program to show me and allow me to get rid of unwanted background programs I would greatly appreciate it!

There was a program with which one could track the system shutdown processes - but I forgot the name of it.

My system is getting ridiculous. It has always been slow at shutdown. That's why I set the Reg Key to 2000ms. But that does not help.

The system boots in 15 seconds but needs 2 minutes to shut down. And that from a M4 SSD and an i7 CPU with 8GBs of RAM.

If anybody remebers the program, please let me know.

In task manager you can change the priority setting for programs/processes, but as soon as the process finishes(i.e.you exit the program), the priority setting for it will revert to its default setting(usually goes back to the "normal" setting). Is there a way to permanently set the priority level of a specific processes/program? If so, how do you go about setting it?What I'm trying to do is set the base priority for Mozilla to a higher setting(it's set at "normal" by default)to see if it improves my speed of browsing.Running on Win.XP, Athlon xp 2400+,768MB RAM, 40GB MaxtorPlus 8, Crucial Radeon 9200se 64MB.Cheers, dagwoood.

Hi, I'll try to be short, since it's strange and hard to explain.

Had windows 8.1, upgraded to Windows 10, everything normal.
After a few months, one program I use for a long time started giving me problems - plays.tv.
It''s a client app that allows recording of in-game footage for gamers. The problem I started experiencing was that whenever I clicked the shortcut or the exe of plays.tv, instead of opening the program window, nothing would happend. Upon clicking again after a while, I would get the usual "The program is already running". So, checking the task manager I could see there was indeed a process open for it. But nothing I could do would make it show up, there's not even an icon in the task bar. So, only solution would be to end the process in the task manager and restart again. Usually at the second attempt it starts normally. Not always.
Now, this problem started hapening rarely, to occasionally, to frequently, to always. And soon, it was affecting also another program, also related to video recording - OBS Studio. They didn't start at the same time, OBS just started more recently. Contacted support for plays.tv, they never seen anything like it.
Now, the most recent windows update changed the display a bit for the the task manager. So now when that happends, I can clearly see that the processes are indeed running in the task manager, but not in the apps tab where they were supposed to be, the process will be in the background processes instead.

I had a program on Windows XP that I used every time that I tried to close an application or to safely remove my external HD, when an error message appeared that said that some process is still running and I need to close it first... you all know how annoying this is. With this program I could "kill" this process and close the application.

I remember this program had an icon of a magic wand and I just CAN'T remember it's name. Even a search in Google didn't help. I'm not feeling the smartest guy right now...

Anybody knows this program? TIA

My parent still have Xp Pro on their computer. They have lots of issues.. i cant even get into all of those right now.
Seems like they have a whole lot of processes running, and i really have no clue what half of them are even for. there are so many svchost.exe processes running.. all together there are 64 different processes. is that a normal number to be running at all times??

my question is this..
we have used the program JASC paint shop pro 9 for years and it has worked perfect.. its was kind of a 30 day trial, that i eventually got him for free.. (wink wink) so those kinds of things usually come up as some kind of virus or something...
but still everything worked perfect and had no issues at all..
then we go and install BIT DEFENDER.. and i believe when he installed that, it automatically erased or blocked or whatever.. to those types of files that it thought was a virus..
I cant use the program anymore..
i even uninstalled the paint shop.. and just tried to put the 30 day trial version on the computer and it still will not open. i double click it to open.. it thinks for a second.. then nothing..
but i open the task manager and it says paint shop pro 9.exe as 2 different running processes.. but nothing will open..
i even went onto bit defender and tried to put that program file folder in the exclusions so that it wont scan it.. and still i cant get it to work..
i dunno what else to do..
i even tried uninstalling the paint shop..
disabling the whole antivirus program..

Answer:XP processes & antivirus program issue.. 2 in 1 question.. plz help!!

Having 64 different processes is not unheard of. I have 85 running on my computer. svchost.exe runs each individual service What is svchost.exe And Why Is It Running?
The version of JASC Paint Shop pro was a Cracked or pirated version of the software that you got for free (wink, wink) It is against TSF Rules to assist or help with cracked or pirated software. Bit Defender found the cracked file and disabled it not allowing you to install the software again. We suggest contacting the software manufacturer and paying for the latest version.

Hello All,

I am running a WIN XP 32 SP2. For about a month now I have been noticing that several of my commonly used programs such as Outlook, Word, IExplorer, and PixInsight - an astrophotography processing program - still have active processes in the Program Manager after I have successfully closed the program via the "X" GUI.
After there are two to three process ghosts running I am no longer able to start the same program again until I manually end all of the processes in Program Manager or reboot.
I have had it suggested that it is the cause of a Win32 virus but I do not seem to have the added 60 to 70 kb tacked on to the process - not that I would know if there were extra resources being used in the first place.
I run Norton 360 on a daily basis and the best it has ever come up with are various low risk tracking cookies. It will "fix" the threats but I will see them reappear a few days later. I am thinking several of these are associated with ads and the like. There is one cookie that is not identified however.

I, of course, would very much like to not have to reinstall Windows if at all possible.

Thanks for taking a look!

Cheers,
Adam

Try running Spybot Seach & Destroy (FREEWARE). YOu may find something tying up your CPU (trojan).

Also try SSI (System Spyware Interogator).
I have experienced lags in my shutdowns. One biggest lag is Spybot takes time to shut down.LOL How much memory do you have? Low memory, with many porgrams open causes lags in shutdowns. What is your Virtural Memory SET at.? Not having enough virtual memory can cause lagging in the system. Do you run a registry cleaner every other day? Try Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. Try Argente FREE Registry cleaner (BETTER). Try a Registry Defragger.. Perhaps your CPU is failing, cause it too hot? Perhaps your Memory is failing and losing values of stored data. Perhaps you have virus/trojan/spyware. Why do you use OUTLOOK. I only use it to send out, but never receive. People Hack it to easily, and it is a trojan/Virus bomb waiting to happen..

Before I got on the web the first time, I found windows delaying shutdowns. Increasing my virtual mem two to three times as much has improved my computer response. Some of The programs you are running, put a burden on the cpu, and if you are running virus software, antispyware, etc all at the same time, you will see delays in processes shutting down. Hello

Rkill is a free program that is used to detect malicious processes running on your computer and to block them, thus allowing the use of other software until then blocked or rendered harmless.

Some viruses are able to completely block the system and also with antimalware you can't do much, because there are infectious processes that limit its use.

Block access to the sites of the major security software house (where you download programs for virus removal and where you download updates of antivirus programs), block the security programs, in short everything that would block their removal.

Rkill can block these processes which prevent the necessary actions to remove any viruses, does not delete anything, but enables the antivirus to remove the virus.

Rkill, ends all malicious processes and actions, at the end leaves you a report where tells you actions and possibly what was evil and was able to block.

Rkill : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/

The program is constantly updated.

Since It do not delete anything, but locks only, after you start RKill you should make a scan of the system with a antvirus and antimalware updated.

I don't know the difference between an Application and a Program. Thought the Geektionary would help, but didn't find anything there.

I have 2 Dell Windows XP computers.

If I want to copy something such as Microsoft Money from one pc and install it on the other, what exactly do I need to copy? The application or the program?

And where do I find what I need to copy? :confused

Any help in this area is so appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Application vs. Program

Well basically an Application is an executable file such as Notepad.exe whereas a program can contain more than one application along with numerous other files such as DLL files.

Since the days when Windows had a registry it is far more difficult just to copy a program as it often has numerous entries in the registry which will point to locations of files within the program - this is why prgrams these days are generally installed. Only if the program contains a small number of files or is a self contained executable (such as Notepad which is both a program and an application rolleyes) can a program be copied.

Hope that's all clear. :confusedrolleyes

Once the application (simulator) starts, I want my program to perform certain tasks on the GUI of the simulator: fill in certain fields, start the simulation, collect the results, and close the application. In essence, I need to emulate the keyboard stokes on the GUI of the simulator using my C program. I must interface to the GUI since I only have the executable available to me. Can any one recommend a way to perform this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the worst legit program/application you've ever used in Windows? Exclude mention of antivirus and anti malware because there's already a popular thread about it on MT.

To moderators, please move this thread if I've posted it in the wrong place.

Answer:Worst program/application you've ever used

Backup software, it made me loose all backups, twice. First one "only" corrupted all files.

But the worst was the one from Google. I removed online files and upon sync, it removed local files. I had to redo everything.

I have sworn never to use any automatic backup software ever again, manual backups for me, only copy/paste locally or online.

Hello can anyone please tell is there any back up software that can back up a particular application for me? For example, if there is any update for a software and i want to back up the software before updating it, is there any way to do so? I know i can back up the whole computer using Norton Ghost but what if i just want to back up a particular software?

Answer:Backup program for a particular application

Not generally doable. When programs are installed, they make changes in the registry of the computer and in various parts of the Windows operating system. Simply finding a program that will copy over the files, will not copy the registry changes or any other changes..it simply copies files. That is why people who try this run into problems. To date I know of no program that copies applications into a useful format to save. There are migration programs and imaging software etc, but nothing for single applications to my knowledge.

Anyone using this HOT rated download, and will it have a direct or indirect benefit regarding popup or popunder ads? The screen shot looks pretty impressive. I'm already employing CCleaner for the drive.

Answer:CleanCache application/program

This is more of a question for the Software Forum.

Using this or CCleaner is not necesarily going to stop popups? It is not a popup stopper? It's a drive cleaner which will remove some items that could possibly be related to some problems you are having.

My family computer is a desktop PC running Windows Vista with McAfee. I make sure to run all updates ASAP. My updates are current through yesterday. When I tried to update my computer this morning, the updates failed with an unknown error. "Error(s) found: code 80070103 Windows Update encountered an unknown error"

This morning, I turned on the computer to find that McAfee has been disabled, Windows Defender has been disabled, and that I cannot turn them back on. Additionally, I cannot run any programs. Invariably, I get the response "program.exe is not a valid Win32 application" regardless of whether I run the program from the C drive or a USB.

Neither Internet Explorer nor Firefox are working; I can only access the internet by opening windows explorer and typing an address into the address bar in that window.

I have tried running McAfee in safe mode, but get the same message. I tried the "repair computer" function when I boot the computer, but it insists that I have another drive attached (though I have unplugged the camera, flash drvie, external hard drive)... There is nothing attached (except for the keyboard and mouse). I have tried restoring my computer to a previous restore point only to be told by the computer that there are no restore points.

I started Googling and thought that it may be the Bagle virus because of the "is not a valid Win32 application" but found none of the files listed on the Removing Bagle Infections page... Read more

Hello, Psychedea

Step 1:
Let's see if one of these online scanners can remove enough for you to then run our tools.

Using BitDefender Online Scan

TrendMicro HouseCall

Step 2:
Make sure that you transfer the tools to the instructed directories given in the R & R Me FIRST
Both SAS & MBAM should be saved to C:\Downloads.. then installed to C:\Program Files
Once installed, open each application and update their definitions databases before running a "Quick scan".

Step 3:
Then re-name MGTools.exe to MGTools.com and see if it will run.

Step 4:
Attach these logs to your reply -

Hey guys, I realize that I am not the only person that has encountered this problem, as my research has shown. I tried to ready some similar posts and problems on this forum and others, but I seem to get stuck at certain steps. Here is my situation. Im on a Dell latitude d630 running windows vista. I fell asleep watching Dexter online and when I woke up there was a new looking Anti-Virus program on my task bar that i do not remember installing. The program showed hundreds of infections and was prompting me to delete only if i bought their antivirus. After realizing I could not delete these infections i tried to close the program and open my Malwarebytes Anti Malware and also Synamatec Antivirus. Both programs failed to open, and an error message bubbled off of the "Antivirus" icon. As soon as this happened I tried harder to download new antivirus and to get this off my comp. But no matter what I download, I am unable to install/open. I cannot open task manager, and recently new virus alerts have been popping up. One says i have an infiltration alert about trojans and password stealing attacks, and when I press stay unprotected www.*censored*.com pops up. I tried to fix this going off what you said to others, but I would appreciate a little one on one help to walk me through this, as each case may be different entirely. Thanks a lot!

I have a flash application running within a secure site. The program uses resources such as video clips and powerpoint presentations. Video clips work OK, but when I ask it to open a .ppt, a popup window appears briefly and then disappears again.
Popup blocker is disabled, and I don't have google or yahoo toolbars.
It's running in a trusted site with all the settings set to minimum security.
there is nothing wrong with the ppt - it runs perfectly on my pc, and from within my secure site.
And (perhaps crucially) it all works perfectly in Firefox!

This all leads me to conclude that there is a setting in IE7 that is wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure out what.

Can anybody help?
The ppt is one of the Resources within the SCORM-compliant "OCR PE AS level Teaching Support" from Heinemann. This is running as a course within the Fronter VLE. (Just on the off-chance that there is someone with specific knowledge of this!)

Thanks in advance.

Basically, I noticed very recently that one of my programs that requires an internet connection (P2P Program) is unable to connect to the internet, despite having worked fine for almost 2 years now. I blew it off at first, and when I went back again to try it I had the same problem. I ended up downloading another, similar program, and had that problem again. I'm troubleshooting a Windows XP (SP2) eMachine (with a fresh OS install on a new hard drive - no original eMachine software remains on the system) and I've never encountered such a persistent problem: certain applications (Fruit Loops, Adobe Acrobat Reader, among others) run fine after installation, but after a reboot they will not run. Their shortcuts, as well as the actual program executables, lose their original icons and are mysteriously changed to the generic window icon (the one Windows will use for a file type is doesn't recognize.) When I try to run these programs, using the desktop shortcut OR the actual executable, I get the error dialog box: "This program is not a valid Win32 application." This happens to several applications, while others (Pro Tools, Acid) remain unaffected and can be executed w/o any problem.
*Note: this computer is not connected to the Internet, so it is unlikely that this is some type of virus.

What could be causing this? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Is it possible in Windows 7 (either via a windows feature or an add-on program) to password protect individual programs or software so that when you try to run the software you first need to provide a password? Please note this is not the same as UAC in Windows 7. I want to be able to lock down certain programs so that when a user tries to run the program (say Internet Explorer or Microsoft Access) they will be prompted for a password. This would be very handy in a shared user scenario. Is this possible via the group policy editor? Thanks!

Answer:Password protect an application or program

This is not supported by Windows but third party applications may provide this feature. Windows security doesn't work that way.Windows security is based on the users account and the groups it is a member of. This is in the files and folder security properties. Don't change anything here unless you know what you are doing.Note that if the user is using an admin account he can evade any and all restrictions you might impose.

Can somebody please tell me how is that done and list some basic book references that shows me how to do that?

How do I reset the "_______" to "Save Changes to..."?

Hello Everyone,

I've finally had enough. I am sick and tired of using windows control panel to uninstall programs. Why? Because 1/2 the time I use the add/remove programs thing it doesnt uninstall the program completly. It will leave folders, files, registry entries, hidden crap, and who knows what else still on my computer from the program I wanted to uninstall. Then I have to go back and try to delete them manually, then pray that a registry cleaner will find the rest (which usually doesnt happen).

I'm looking for something that will completely remove EVERYTHING when I uninstall a program. I dont care if it costs money or if its free, as long as it works.

Thank you if you can help.

EDIT: on a side note. Also looking for an easy to use free macro program. Somthing that I can use to press a key stoke, have a few minute delay, and repeat the key stroke. Then loop that untill I press stop.

Answer:Can anyone recommend a Application & file transfer program?

Transfering your files back depends on the method of how you have backed them up.
If you have done it using Bounce Back Express, maybe this application has option for restoring the files?

Also if you want to transfer application files from XP to Win 7 this will not work.
You will need to reinstall all applications on Windows 7 and then transfer your other files such as video, music, pictures etc.

The other says modified 21st Jan 2005. There's no information for either in the 'summary' tab. I've done a full scan with Norton, Ad-Aware SE, A-Squared and Ewido and everythings coming up clean. Hi all,

I'm using Windows XP pro, 32 bit with service pack 3 on an HP 8510W notebook. Recently I noticed that every time I closed a program, or a program exited properly, I received an error that looked something like this.

notepad.exe - Application Error

taskmgr.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x009c1f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
And so on, with everything from Reaper to firefox to Task Manager. I've also noticed two other things, which are:
A. this error never occurs if I manually end the task from within task manager or tskill, only when the program legitimately exits.
B. The first hex value always changes, but the second value, the memory being referenced, always stays the same.

Answer:Get Application error every time I try to print, regardless of which program I use

Which HP printer are you using?

If Windows XP detected and used its own drivers, you should download the up-to-date drivers. (hpzntp07.dll is a HP driver)

I have a split Access 2013 "application program?. This application program has a Front-end part that exists on each terminal within the network. The back-end part (the data) lives on the File server with Windows Server 2012. The front-end and back-ends are connected to each other with cat6 cable. This works great. What I now want to do is be able to walk outside to the end of my property with a portable computer and still be able to use this front end application program but without a wire. Assuming I have a wireless connection to the file server with good signal strength how do I link up the portables front end to the back end?

Hello, this is my first time using this forum so I apologize if I do something wrong.

So normally, whenever I hover my mouse over a program located on the taskbar, I get a preview screen showing what is currently being viewed on that program. I can still get that, however, it never shows itself above the active program (last program I've clicked).

This happens with each and every program I have opened and tried. I tested the method of having the active program sitting in a place where it would only slightly conceal the preview (not maximized). Then having inactive programs (I've clicked on something else besides them last) behind the active one and the preview. Then I can see that that the preview will cover all inactive programs but the active program will still cover the preview.

I hope I've detailed what's happening well enough. I don't remember when this first started happening but I do know that it is not supposed to function like this. The preview should always be visible and on top no matter if there are active programs or not.

I also tried to get a picture of it happening, but it's kinda hard to take a picture of something that requires the active program to not hide itself (like snipping tool does).

Hi,

I would really like a program that would allow me to fill out an application/document right in the PDF file, without printing it out first and then scanning it back onto the computer.

Is there anyway to do this?

Answer:Program to allow you fill out an application/doc in PDF format without printing it?

Hi all,

My vista box is getting a little slow from time. Like everything freezes on the computer, and then I have to wait a little bit and it comes back. Often this happens when firefox has been used for a while. I'm not sure if this is firefox's entire fault, so I was wondering what free program is out there that I can use to monitor what application is accessing the disk. I tried googling but just found a bunch of hard drive monitoring (temperature, fail rate, etc.) programs.

Thanks,

Z

Answer:application hard drive usage program

You should be able to use the resource monitor built into Windows to see what programs are writing to disk.

Third party utilities are available as well, such as ProcessMonitor and FileMonitor.

I tried using Auslogics Boostspeed trial version,
It's actually pretty cool 'cause it scans and shows how many junks files, registry errors, fragmented and disk errors there is, plus status if it's critical or whatsoever.
But since it's only a trial version, I can't fix/repair all of the errors.
the last time i checked showed that my computer doesn't have disk error but have other issues that need to be fixed. So i was wondering if there's such a program or i can manually check and fix stuff like this. Thanks in advance and have a nice day people^^

Answer:Is there a program/application(free) to scan and fix disk errors?

Windows has a built in disk checker. You can access it by right clicking on your drive and choosing "properties", then "tools" then "error-checking".

You can also run it from a command prompt.

You can also download disk utilities from your drive manufacturer's web site.

Hi, my os is window vista. Recently i opened an unknown application (.cfg file type, some games files) with notepad editor to see what it is inside. I change something and save it. the file type is still cfg but now it always open with a notepad which coz my game to malfunction...so how do i remove the open with notepad and set it to a an unknown application..which my com don actually recognizes it and will prompt me to search the internet.

Answer:Changing open with default program to unknown application.

Press Start (the Windows icon on the bottom right), type regedit and press enter. Press Continue when the UAC thing pops up. Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes, find the .cfg key and delete it. This will reset it so when you open any cfg file it will ask you which program you want to open it with. You may have to restart your computer after completing the above steps.

You posted this in the wrong section by the way.

Somewhere during the installation process it freezes up and I get an error message saying it needs to close. When I try to open already installed programs I get an set up error that says error writing application data. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling those programs also with the same result. please help, i know very little about computers

Answer:Solved: Whenever I open a program it asks what application id like to launch with

Try this fix: EXEFIX

Unzip the fix and extract the .REG file to the Desktop. Right-click the .REG file and choose Merge. Note that you need to be an Administrator to apply this fix.

Reboot the computer.

If the fix only opens as a text file, right-click it and select Open With > Choose Program... Then, select the Registry Editor.

If the Registry Editor is not in the list, browse to C:\WINDOWS and select regedit.

Hello,I am looking for a program capable of redirecting ALL current internet speed only to one application, ensuring it works possibly as good as it should. So far I only found programmes meant to limit the applications speed, which is theoreticaly the opposite of what I am looking for.I would LOVE you guys to reply to me with ANY ideas because I am trying to fix a problem that none have yet solved. If you want to read more about the problem, head here http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=138954.0 and maybe you could help me to solve it, if not, staying here will be appreciated too. Thanks and best regards,

Answer:A program for maximising internet priority to only one selected application

You could use almost any firewall product to accomplish this. Even Windows Firewall should allow for this type of management. If you turned on the limitation for the entire PC and then permitted the one application for full access, wouldn't that accomplish what you are trying to do?

Hello,

I am writing this because I am seeking help with an Email related issue.

I am trying to use a program that retrieves Inbound Email attachments and resends them to a new destination… it is a dispatch program.

The Help Files associated with this program make reference to “The Attachment Folder” from “My Email Program”.

I am currently using Microsoft Outlook 2000 as my Email program although… I also have Outlook Express as an optional email program that I could use.

I would prefer to stay with Outlook 2000 though…
“if possible”.

I am enclosing an excerpt from the “Help” File associated with this program so you can see their exact reference to an “Attachment Folder from my Email Program”.

I have tried contacting The Program Manufacturers Tech. Support but as yet have not heard back from them.

I am looking for any advice or direction to be able to Locate and Identify this “Attachments Folder” in “my Email Program” that they make reference to.

If you can assist or advise me in any way I would appreciate it very much, as I am completely lost as to what to do next.

My Operating System is Windows 98SE.

Thank You
Respectfully
Mike Santos

Answer:Simple Program Application Question Re; A Specific Folder ???

Outlook does not save the attachments in a "separate folder", it bundles them up with everything else in a .pst file.

Other email programs such as Eudora use an attachments folde, located wherever you want it. Looks like thats what the program is designed for?

Please help if you can! After my son used my computer I noticed two problems which scare me and indicate (I think) a virus problem. First: after typing a Google query, I click onto the desired link and find myself redirected to other search engines which also performed the same search I had just requested from Google.Second: I downloaded the free Ad-awareAE program onto my desktop, but when I clicked on the icon to install it, i got the message "AD-Aware.exe is not a valid Win32 application"Based on some internet searches I made, it seems these are symptoms of virus activity and I am petrified to do any online banking. I was able to download Avest Antivirus and found 4 trojan viruses on my pc. It eliminated them but the two problems still persist. Please help! Greetings,

Is there a program out there that keeps record a database of its own on NTFS security permissions? Recently in quick bandage we had to move our fileserver files (containing all departmental folders, a globally accessible folder, and a folder accessible only to each division) to another server... entirely losing NTFS permissions in the process

It would be handy to have a program that would have kept a 'profile' of what NTFS permissions are supposed to be for any folder touched beyond defaults), and just point this program at the new location and have it go through doing the hard work and re-apply several hundred unique permissions).

Answer:Program that keeps own record of NTFS security permissions for mass re-application?

I'm not sure I've ever seen a program that does what you're looking for, but then again I've never looked.... I do know that you can use powershell to export permissions, set permissions and with just a few lines of script, copy them (see the get-acl and set-acl commandlets). You should be able to export the results of get-acl for later reuse or analysis if you wish too...

Aside from that, maybe more important... Next time you need to copy files and want to retain the permissions, use robocopy. (Native command in 2008 and later, previous to that you had to get it from the resource kit...) It will allow you to copy all the files and directories and keep all their permissions, timestamps, etc... The command line help is extensive, and there are a lot of options... Read the help and let me know if you have any questions...

I have a Y700-34ISH Desktop (ideacentre) - Type 90DF00B2MW, and the "Driver and Installation Application" program is installed. When I clicked on the driver menu it showed a bunch of items, which I went ahead and installed. It asked me to restart the PC, but after I did the items are still showing.

1. What is happening?
2. What are the benefits of this program?
3. Is it ok to uninstall it if I don't want those benefits?

EDIT: It seems like this program "updated" several drivers to older versions. At least that happened with Geforce, and I also had to reassign my headset as the preferred output in the sound settings.

Confusing stuff like this doesn't make one happy after spending $1500 on a new PC.

Mod's Edit: System model added to the front of Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.

You have scanned throughly for malware with at least two different packages. Ran diagnostic, memory and system board if Lenovo has it for download. Upgrading to a different version only makes a mess of things if there is malware.

Windows refuses to change the version application called upon with default program.

I have 2 versions of 3ds max (2010 and 2015) on my system. I need both for different utilities (some that work in 2010 do not work in 2015, and vice versa).

I tried to change the default left click open program to 3ds max 2015.

However, Windows refuses to acknowledge this and insists on using 3ds Max 2010's 3dsmax.exe instead.

I am using the correct path to the launcher in the 2015 version's folder, I made sure of this at least 15 times.

I have gone through regedit tutorials, even downloaded a utility called openwithview, and tried working with the UI interface for 'open with' for hours but to no avail. Why is windows so insistent on using 3dsmax.exe from the 2010 version even when explicitly told to use the 2015 version? What is causing it to fight so hard with me? How can I change this behavior?
