My laptop the only computer having slow wifi issues?

Question: My laptop the only computer having slow wifi issues?

My laptop is the only computer in the house with slow wifi speeds, thinking it was a problem with the computer itself, I restored it. The problem persists. I connected to another network I found, and everything was fine, so why is it only my computer and only on my connection? Any help is appreciated.

Preferred Solution: My laptop the only computer having slow wifi issues?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: My laptop the only computer having slow wifi issues?

This seems to be an issue with your router.

Try tuning off your computer. Unplug your modem and router wait a minute or so.

Plug in the modem and router wait till all lights stabilize.

Startup your computer and see how your connection is then.
Is your wifi though the router encrypted with WEP or WPA? If not someone outside can be stealing your connection causing slow speeds.

Hello all im new to the forum and have a issue with slow wifi. I have a hp envy m6-1105dx I have comcast xfinity internet with a Arris TG862 gateway. All my devices on this network get anywhere between 20 to 45mbps download and 11-13 upload. At first this hp was geeting around 42mbps download but now after a lil while its down to 4 maybe 6mbps. I have ran speed test and all wireless devices and are still getting anywhere between 20 and up. I have no idea what is causing that. Called comcast they said everything is working fine on their end called hp said if i had a wifi card issue i would be gettingl imited issues. I have no idea what the problems are why im getting 43mbps then drops to 5 if i reinstall or restore my laptop ill get the speeds back.

i have cable internet that is connected to a belkin wireless router. one computer gets slow internet access when connected to this. multiple other computers get better speed. the one affected computer gets fast speeds when accessing the internet at other locations, like a friend's house. also, the affected computer gets fast speeds when connected to the router by a cable.

so the problem seems to be very specific to the connection between these specific devices.

the laptop in question is a thinkpad e420 running windows 7.

thank you in advance for any solutions or suggestions you might have.

Question: Slow WiFi issues

I've been battling slow wireless issues for a while now, this seems to be an issue with my wifi/modem, not actually my PC, but since I have Comcast, maybe someone can help. I live in a townhouse, and so that means a lot of wireless interference, I've tried to auto-channel selection, and manual selection to a channel that is used less often. Nothing seems to work. Here are my US/DS results for wired and wireless

Wired: US: 12.10Mbps DS: 87.97Mbps Ping: 28ms Server Location: Delton, MI (
Wireless: US: 12.35Mbps DS: 3.48Mbps Ping: 32ms Server Location: Delton, MI (

I'm using internet at low use hours, so there really should not be MUCH interference. Any ideas would be helpful

Hi, I've noticed the Wifi on my U410 gives me slow speeds compared to a USB Wifi card or Ethernet. The lenovo support and drivers site lists a different Wifi card for the U410 from the one installed on my machine. The Wifi card installed in my machine is an Atheros AR9485WB-EG, whereas the support and drivers website only lists a driver for: WIFI Driver (Intel, CyberTan, Liteon). Is anyone able to help me get an updated driver for this machine? Why does the website list a completely different Wifi card? Thanks!Mike

Answer:U410 slow Wifi & Driver issues.

hi M1chaelR,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
If you looked into, the drivers there are mostly for the US version of the U410. If you purchased the Lenovo U410 in the UK, try these drivers for Atheros AR9485WB:

OS: Windows 8 32/64bit
OS: Windows 7 32/64bit
Let me know your findings.

Have a clients Elitebook 2760p that refuses to connect to the wifi at his office any longer. Lots of other devices in the office still connect with no problem, and his was working for the past month. I have a toshiba satellite pro 6100 which works fine on my LAN if I have the network unsecured. But as soon as I switch on the WEP on the router to secure the network it will no longer connect no matter what I do.

I have downloaded a driver update but this does not make any difference at all.
I prompts me for the password but then does nothing. I dont get the message to say "Acquiring Network Address"

I'm at my mom's house for the holidays and I can't seem to browse the Internet properly. I can access google and complete searches, but I can't follow any of the links or any urls. The router page doesnt time out, but only shows that it's trying to load pictures and I can't get to any of the configs. Also, I can successfully ping every site I can think of. Hamachi is also working and I can browse remote files.

Is this issue somehow DNS related?

Answer:Solved: Laptop wifi issues

unlikely DNS as you can get to google
and you can ping every site

maybe a firewall blocking
how are you connected by wireless - try connecting with a cable to the router

what security suite do you have or every had on the PC

Hi, I am trying to diagnose a problem with my friends laptop. It is a Toshiba Satellite P500 with Win7 Home Premium. It will not connect or detect any wifi connections with its own wifi devices. I have looked in device manager and everything appears normal and the wifi/wireless switch on the front is switched on. It has a Realtek wireless NIC in it and I also downloaded and updated the driver. Then I used my own Wireless USB stick at home and as soon as it plugged it in it picked up about 6 wifi connections including mine and it is what I am using right now to type this message. Also I think the computer might be hijacked because when trying to use Firefox all I keep getting for the Google home page is "about:home" and whenever trying to search for something using FF I keep getting a "404 not found". I have used Malwarebytes and it has detected and fixed some stuff but the problem still persists.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I just bought a Samsung Series 7 laptop. Really happy with it except one thing...which is pretty major I think!
It connects to my WiFi router fine, but in my bedroom, it is really slow. Works much better in other rooms in the house which are closer to the router. My old Laptop (a Sony) works fine on WiFi in the I think its not the WiFi signal range that is a problem.
Anyone have an ideas how I can improve the speed of the connection? I don't really want to be only using the laptop in the front room! Will Changing the channel on the router help?
Let me know if you need more info..sorry Im not very technical so keep your replies simple :)

Answer:Slow WiFi on new Laptop

Last month I also bought one of these laptops and had similar issues; if the laptop was more than a few feet away from the router the connection dropped and the laptop reported no networks within range. Despite many hours in trying to resolve the issue to no effect I contacted Samsung helpline and they told me to take it back for a replacement as there was a fault with the laptop. I also carried out some research and this is a well known problem with this series; I took it back and swapped it over for a HP Pavilion g6 which is absolutely fine.
Hope this helps.

I am experiencing really slow wifi on my laptop. I have the Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235 wifi card in this laptop and running Windows 7 64bit.

When I am close to the router I have no problem, but when about 12 meters away at my desk, my internet speed drops to snail pace even though I have 4/5 bar wifi signal. I have an HTC One, Google Nexus 7, another laptop all working absolutely fine from the same location

I have updated to the latest drivers, I have ran a deep virus scan, I have changed the Wifi channels on the router, and currently using channel 1. Nothing has had any effect. I'm looking for some ideas. Can anyone help?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

I've run into a really annoying issue with my Toshiba laptop running Windows 7. It uses the Realtek 8192E wireless NIC.

I recently (in January) ditched my WRT610N router for a Netgear WNDR3700. The WRT610N got hit by a surge in December, and started losing its settings every few days, and needing to be reconfigured from scratch every few days. I'd had it for two years, and never been satisfied with range or speed.

Netgear worked fine at first. I tested it with my desktop machine, which is connected wirelessly (and runs Windows 7) and with my laptop which also runs Windows 7 and connects wirelessly.

A few weeks ago, the laptop started having weird problems.

Intermittently (every 30-60 seconds) a little yellow exclamation mark would appear over the bars showing internet strength, and the laptop wouldn't be able to access *anything*. Then, the exclamation mark would go away, and I'd be able to use it...then 60 seconds later, it would be back, and I'd lose connectivity again.

When it's working, it's's dropped from getting speeds of about 38 Mbps for file transfer to about 500 Kbps.

Further, consistently, since the problem started occurring, my wife has run into an issue where if she tries logging into Facebook, the laptop will just sit there and read and read and read, but never get in. We can walk away, come back 15 minutes later, and the little icon for IE is still spinning, telling us it's still trying to load the page. Same thing with logging into To... Read more

Hey guys,

I hope you can help me. My Windows 8 laptop is having some WiFi connection issues.

Basically what happens is that every 5-20 minutes I cannot access the internet on browsers and the wifi connection is listed as "Limited".

The laptop: ASUS Vivobook S200E

The WiFi: Sky wireless router (no idea about model, it's almost two years old) But what I will say is that my Windows 7 laptop never skips a beat on this network, nor does my wife's Mac, nor do our 2 Android tablets, the iPad, the iPhone, the Android phone, and various devices that our friends connect when they come round. Literally no other device has any problems on this network, so I know (by the process of elimination) the Win8 laptop is the one with the problem.

In order to fix the issue I have to disconnect from the network, wait about 30 sec and reconnect again. The monotonous regularity that I have to do this is getting really dull, as you can imagine.

Any insight into this, ladies and gents?

Answer:Windows 8 Laptop having issues connecting to WiFi

You might first try unchecking the power saving feature which can cause problems such as you are describing.

It's also important to use the correct security and encryption for Widows 8 drivers, you should be using WPA-2 with AES encryption.

This setting is located in the Device Manager, right click the adaptors NIC then choose properties then the power management tab per the picture below.

The latest WiFi drivers from Asus might also work better if you don't already have them.

I have created a wifi hotspot on my work laptop (hp probook 640 g1) I started the hosted network and in the network and sharing page I could see the ssid 'hotSpot1' under the wireless network connection 2 (WNC2) icon. I also could see the ssid in the currently connected to part of the available networks page when selecting the bottom right hand corner bars. i.e.

currently connected to: internet access

hotspot1 No internet access

However when I share the wireless network connection (WNC) that the is connected to with hotspot1. The ssid is changed to so both WNC and WNC2 ssid's are displaying

I have also lost the ssid in the 'currently connected to' section as well it now displays:

currently connected to: internet access

When I look for hotspot1 from my mobile device I cannot find it. Anybody got any clues. Please help.

p.s. the internet is a domain (if it helps)

I've already spent too much time resolving the following issues, and I've already searched for solutons. I bought it in June 2013, Y500 - 59371972 Was WIN8 now WIN7 Pro I got tired of black screens, freeze ups, and being forced to use one key recovery twice in a month, and the WiFi used to disconnect for no reason, and after I upgraded to WIN7 Pro, it resolved all those issues, but the speed is really slow, it was @ ~20MBS on WIN8 and on WIN7, but the last time I checked it, I got 13MPS.I have a 80MBS/40MBS FIOS connection... If I plug in my D-Link DWA-125 N WiFi USB, I get 40MBS... I've looked for a fix, but is of no help, in fact, when I ran the latest Intel driver/repair program, it caused my N-2230 to be inactive, and when I re-ran it said I already have the latest driver, but the WiFi no longer works.Next, I'll try deleting and re-installing the N-2230 driver, but I'm really dissapointed in Intel for supplying inferior devices, and ineffective repair programs. Shouldn't the Intel N-2230 be capable of operating at 40MPS+? Can anyone recommend a replacement for the internal WiFi, because I prefer not to have the D-Link WiFi in the USB port, since I don't want to accidentally bump into the USB device and screw up the USB port. My 2nd issue is that my keyboard has a mind of it's own; I'll be typing something, and suddenly the cursor moves up, and F's up my already typed text.I found out that enabling the always on USB can cause th... Answer:I Have Several Issues With My Y500 59371972, Keyboard/Trackpad, DVD Drawer & SLOW WiFi Intel N-2230

hi thesciroccocom,
Regarding your questions:
1. For the Intel N-2230 wifi adapter,  try to:
- update the wifi/bluetooth drivers from the intel website:
Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 8* (install this first)
Intel® PROSet/Wireless Bluetooth Software for Windows 8*
- disable the bluetooth when using wifi to prevent connection drops
- access and configure advanced Wi-Fi adapter settings:
2. The Intel N-2230 is capable of speeds to 300Mbps but due to interference, drivers, and other settings, you may not always get the this full speed.
3. For the keyboard cursor suddenly moves up, this might be due to the Touchpad's sensitivity. Have you tried to adjust it? If you have the Synaptics touchpad, navigate to Control Panel (large icon view) > Mouse > Device Settings Tab and adjust the sensitivity accordingly:

If that doesn't work, try to install Touchfreeze and observe,
4. The DVD's front bezel might be hitting the base cover when opening/ejecting the drive. If requesting for a replacement DVD drive from support is not feasible, you will need to send the unit in (the tech. might also need to replace the base cover if replacing the DVD drive doesn't work)

My LAN speed is usually around 5100 via my SpeedTouch router ST585v6. When I am using my Laptop, an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7 with an AMD quad Core cpu, not the fastest of computers!, I seem to get WIFi speeds as low as 1700 whilst at other times can get 5000.
The Router is only about 6 feet away from the Laptop! Is the speed drop a "computer problem" or a router one? If I connect the Laptop to the LAN the speed will always be at about 5100. My desktop computer is connected to the LAN and has a speed of 5100.
I have the usual security set on the Router.
Does anyone have any thoughts?

Hi all, hopefully you can help. I have an interesting issue I haven't been able to figure out. I have an Airlink 101 AR675W router with the latest firmware installed which is connected my leased cable modem. There is a variety of devices using the network here including an iPad, two Android phones, an HP netbook, an HP printer, an HP laptop, a PS3, etc. Of all these devices, only the PS3 is hard wired to the router, the rest all use Wifi. Only the HP laptop has issues, and I can't sort it out.

The laptop with the issue is less than 6 months old, shows link speed to the router of ~240-300 mbps, but web page loading, downloads, etc are intermittently slow. When it's "acting up", speed test sites show ~1.5 mbps download, yet 3+ mbps upload still. When it's not "acting up", the same sites show 20+ mbps download with 3+ mbps upload. The interesting thing to me is that even when the laptop is running slow, ALL the other devices run normally and are plenty fast at 20+ mbps. Connecting directly with an ethernet cable gives proper speeds. I have also tried rebooting all devices (modem, router, laptop) with no change.

The drivers are all up to date on the laptop, the firmware on the router is up to date, etc. Restarting the laptop as a "clean boot" makes no difference for wireless speeds, nor does safe mode with networking. I have tried temporarily disabling all firewalls with no change also. There are no devices that I have been able... Read more

I just bought an alienware M18x, and set it up a few days ago. To my knowledge, all of the drivers are up to date. Yet my internet is still slow (about half the time). I run a speed test, and it says my download speed is 0 mbps for a few moments, then it skyrockets and averages out to about 8. The upload speed is more consistent, but only at 0.3 mbps. I have centurylink at up to 12, and they've told me that the connection itself is fine. Encryption type is set to TKIP, as this helped before (though it's slow regardless). I can post my dxdiag if necessary. Any ideas?

Answer:Wifi Internet to my new laptop is slow

do you have other PCs on the router and do they work OK ?
all of the drivers are up to date.Click to expand...

sometimes you need to actually update the driver by downloading the driver and installing , rather than just doing an update

also try

Uninstall and allow windows to re-install the adapter and Driver
I would goto device manager and right click on the adapter and uninstall/remove and then restart the PC and let windows re-detect the hardware and reinstall the driver

Having done a broadband speed test with on my NC6320 with a Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card and my Netgear router, found my speed to be alot slower than thought.
The router incoming download speed is 3.07Mbps which is what we can expect from our exchange from BT line test. My laptop shows to be 1.02 Mbps. My son who also has a NC 6000 with a Intel 2200 his test shows to be 2.73Mbps. and this test is done when we are side by side or just mine switched on or even if I'm sat alongside the router. Both are running XP Pro with SP3.

The registry has been modified/added for the TcpWindowSize @ 64240. Latest driver direct from Intel for the wifi card. The Wireless Network Connection shows 54Mps with a Good/Excellent signal and configured for 802.11 b&g, cannot set for 'g' only as no choice in drop list.

Any tips of how to increase my speeds.

Hello everyone,
I?m looking for help on an issue i have at home with my laptop starting up. I?m suspecting that my router is the problem.

I have a laptop from work a HP ProBook 4540s. At work it starts up fine, but at home it takes a quite a few minutes before i get the windows log-in screen and another while before my desktop is ready. AFter that, even starting up IE takes seconds more to load at home then at work.

So i found a thread about the same problem here: and thought i might try looking here for a solution.
I just dont want to mess up the settings that make my laptop function good at work.

Thank you already!!!

Here goes:
1. It is a wireless problem
2. My provider is UPC (Netherlands)
3. I?m using a cable connection
4. My modem is a D-Link DIR-655
5. The installed anti-virus is Trend Micro Security Agent

Be sure the adapter is not set to any kind of power saving or efficiency mode in Device Manager. Does it do the same with IE or other browser?

I have installed the most recent drivers for my bluetooth and wifi devices. I have also installed the latest Win10 updates. This wifi and bluetooth problem has been around for a while. If my laptop starts up with bluetooth on, I cannot connect to the wifi until bluetooth is off. Then when i can turn on bluetooth while the wifi is still on. Sometimes, if i turn bluetooth on while wifi is on, the wifi will turn off and there is no possible way to connect to the same wifi connection again (I can connect to other wifi), until i restart my computer. Sometimes when i disconnect bluetooth by going out of range or closing the flap, sometimes it reconnects, sometimes after turning the bluetooth off to start it up again, it just wont start. I have a feeling that running wifi and bluetooth at the same time is sacrificing significant wifi speed.

Hiya. For a while I've been experiencing that my download and upload speeds seem to vary wildly while on my computer, however they always seem to be MUCH lower than on my laptop. When using my laptop tends to average around 25 mbps downloading and 15 mbps uploading. Occasionally my desktop will peak and be slightly better (best I've seen today is 37.55 mbps and 19.03 mbps uploading) but the grand majority of the time it seems to hover at around 5 mbps download and 1 or 2 mbps upload. I don't understand why this is. Things I have tried:
Updating to Windows 10 on desktop (not that I am on my laptop)
Updating the drivers for my TRENDnet 300Mbps Dual Band Wireless N USB Adapter wireless adapter (tried, no need as they're up to date)
Turning off power saving mode (I don't know why this was enabled on a desktop but it was)
Turning off the windows option to "disconnect this device to save power"
Cleaning in the inside of my desktop tower
Changing my IPv4 DNS server values
And I have also tried running a full virus scan, malware scan and uninstalling every program I installed in the last month

And I know it is almost certainly not interference due to the fact that my laptop sits directly above my PC tower, both a whole floor away from the router, and the laptop does okay. For the sake of checking I have tried moving the laptop to a different room but that is not the cause of the problem. In addition to the results ... Read more

I just bought this laptop about a month and a half ago, and a few weeks ago I noticed the Wifi is slow when my laptop is not plugged in. I looked up the issue and changed my power saver settings so that the wifi would have high performance even when not plugged in to the power source. This seemed to work for a couple days, but now it runs slow again when not plugged in. I went back into the settings to make sure they didn't revert to default, but everything is as I changed it and the problem persists. My internet is SUPER slow when my laptop is not plugged in and works perfectly fine when it is plugged in. I have been unable to find anyone with a similar issue and there are no other settings that pertain to my internet use that I can change to affect any outcome. Is anyone else having similar issues? Is there a fix for this? I don't like the idea of having to keep my laptop plugged in all the time for internet use. That kind of defeats the purpose of having  a portable computer.

I have a 2011 Asus k53sv laptop with an i7 processor and 8 gigs of ram. I recently upgraded my wifi card because I had an old centrino 100-n card. I upgraded to an intel 7260ac in order to get better speeds in general. Currently my ISP is giving me 100mgbs download and 20 mgb upload. On my girlfriends newer laptop she is getting around 75 mgb download on, however, when I try speedtest on the same network using my laptop, I max out at 20 mgbs. These tests are done one right after another so bandwidth issues aren't the problem. I have all of the correct drivers for this card installed so I don't think that is the issue either. Any ideas on how to fix this on my laptop?
Thanks in advance!

I usually get a max of around 120kbs on an average download on my old XP, but on my new Vista im getting 30kbs max. Hi, the wi-fi on my laptop has suddenly become very slow (5mbps) and it usually disconnects every 5 minutes and I have to wait another 5 minutes for it to reconnect.

This has only started happening the last 10 days or so.

The wi-fi on my android phone which is connected to the same router runs perfectly with quite high speeds achieved. 50mbps

I have a computer that is wired via ethernet and that achieves speeds of 70mbps.

I have tried reinstalling the driver but nothing happens. If I try 'updating' the driver Windows just says it's the best driver installed.

I have tried reinstalling Windows 10 by reseting it. It has the latest updates.

Is it possible my wi-fi adapter hardware is failing? I thought it would either work or not if it was the hardware.

I have no idea how to solve this problem and it basically means I can't use my laptop as I have to keep waiting for it to reconnect after it disconnects every 5 minutes.

I have also 'reset' the router incase it was a problem with that but was unsuccessful.

I hope someone can help me with a miracle solution.

I'm wondering if I should got back to Windows 7 but I've had Windows 10 for a good few months now and the adapter has always been fine. I'm just worried a latest update has affected it somehow.

Oh I can also use my phone via USB tethering and I get good speeds doing that but I don't have a lot of data so it's not a viable solution.

Ok, I have an Acer Aspire 4730Z laptop. I run the internet through my wifi, the service is provided by the apartment complex to everyone. It is an incredibly strong signal for the whole building, and I am right beneath the source so I have always had just an amazing speed on my internet.

The other day, while chatting on Facebook of all places, something happened (what I do not know) and the Firefox crashed. Since that moment the internet has been chugging. And I mean CHUGGING! It takes almost 2min just to load a page. (this is not consistent however some pages load faster) Downloading speeds have all but stopped (I don't know how to check for just how fast they are going) I can't even load up Youtube videos now its so slow.

forgot to add my stats here
Acer Aspire 4730Z
dual core t3400
2.16 dual core intel processor
802.11b/g/draft-N WLAN

I tried several fixes for the problem, but being a noob I think I screwed it up worse because its even slower than before.

first I used Uniblue registry cleaner and speed upper thing. They just screwed up my computer even worse and it was taking forever just to open a file folder let along load a webpage. I did a system restore to undue that damage.

I tried resetting the autotuning. That did not work I even did an ipconfig/renew release thing. That almost did me in. I finally got the internet running again. still slow.

Help me please! I use a Voip phone and cannot use it because of this problem. Any hel... Read more

All of a sudden the wifi on my laptop has been really slow lately. I remember before I could stream 720p videos without any buffer on Youtube. Now I'm lucky if I can somewhat stream a 340p without the occasional stutters/buffers. Sometimes I would be getting 39 Mbps or 52 Mbps (if I'm really lucky) , but most of the times I would get either 26-19 Mbps. On all my other devices (iPod, Family Desktop, iPhone) the internet speed seems just fine as they can stream in 720p and browse without any network problems. Also I am upstairs with the router downstairs in the family room.

My results from - 25 ms, 2.56 Mbps Download Speed, 0.38 Mbps Upload Speed.

This result is VERY UNSTABLE, sometimes I couldn't even get 1 Mbps download speed (more like 0.8). I would also have like 50 ms. I am running Windows 8 Pro with a Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop.
DHCP is enabled. IPv6 is not. I made sure everything was updated using Windows Update. And I'm only using the windows defender firewall which I made wasn't blocking anything by disabling it and seeing if it cleared up any problems - which it did not, the same thing happened.

Please help me with this issue, its very annoying and frustrating to have a really slow wifi at times and really good at other times.

i recently installed windows 10 on my laptop because of the free upgrade oportunity from microsoft, so i did a clean install on my laptop, i deleted several partitions that were already in the hard drive from factory, so i didnt know what was their purpose so i did it anyways, now i have windows 10 and well while its better im also experiencing a particular issue, at first while i tried to use the laptop like i normally would i was noticing that i had several hardware (devices) unknown , so what i did was use windows update which downloaded a lot of things for my laptop since i did a clean install not upgrade method, that fixed most of the problems i was experiencing, but now im having this particular one, whenever i unplug my laptop because it has enough battery my connection speed seems reduced and doesnt seem to be as quick as it should be, it works perfectly when im using the power connector but i dont see the point on using the power when it has enough battery to work just fine, for watching movies or whatever, this is a problem for me , is there a way to solve this? am i lacking any other software or driver ? i did the power management changes so idk whats going on. help me please    im getting really sad over this.

Hi, recently the wifi on my laptop has been extremely slow and disconnects quite often (still shows as connected but says no internet) however the same wifi on my phone experiences no such issues. I was considering reinstalling windows to see if that fixes it but I'd rather avoid having to do that.
My wifi package is 100mb/s but on my laptop it ranges from a few mb to 20 or so if I'm lucky, is there any way to fix this without reinstalling windows & would that even solve the issue?

Hi there,

I have just changed my router ( to a TP-Link TD-W9980 ADSL2+/VDSL2 router).
Talktalk is my ISP, and I had to swap out their rubbish Huawei router.

I have an issue on my work laptop which is running via my work VPN

Strangely a minute or so after I connect to my work VPN the Wifi icon in the taskbar comes up with an exclamation mark and I get "No Internet" in my 'Network and Sharing Centre' panel.
Despite this showing no Internet - I can surf and use the internet. Odd.

I get this if I connect to either 5Mhz or 2.4MHz bands on the router.
I have tried resetting the adapter, rebooting laptop etc.
I have rebooted the router.
In case this was a DNS issue I have changed the router to use the google Nameservers ( and
The laptop is set to get DNS from the router - as it always has. - according to the networks details panel - it is picking up the google DNS settings from the router OK.
So I can surf OK, but its not that quick.

Why is this working like this?

I just re-installed the OS (Windows 7 64bit) on my Folio 9470m.  The WiFi is so sluggish, it is un-usable.  When I run a with a wired connection, I get 25mbps.  When I run the test with WiFi, it starts out at 25mbps, but drops quickly until the test times out before it gets to 100%. -The wireless device is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235.  The driver version is had just obtained the laptop and didn't use it much before I re-installed the OS.  I believe the WiFi was fine before I re-installed the OS, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm hoping that this is something simple that I can fix.  Any ideas? Thanks,Mark

Answer:Laptop WiFi extremly slow and stops working

Drivers are about the only issue that can be fixed without replacing the card. Here is the driver download page: Note the instruction to remove prior drivers first. I would uninstall the wireless from device manager, use advasnced uninstall and remove the existing driver from the system and then reload the driver. Download the new driver and keep track of it as you uninstall since obviously once you uninstall you will not have wireless to download the driver with. If this does not work we need to think about replacement of the card. Have you otherwise installed the chipset and other drivers?

So this has been going on for a few months. I have an HP DV6-7029wm laptop that will only get around 3.3Mbps over wifi. I have Uverse with the 20Mbps plan. Now here is what I have tried and nothing has fixed it.

Had Win 8.1 - Did fresh install to Win 7
Have tried 3 different versions of the Atheros 9485 Chipset Driver
Have swapped wifi adapters from daughters laptop
Disabled wifi security
Turned off Windows Firewall
AT&T swapped out my old gateway for the newest one they have

Now thinking it might be issues between my laptop and uverse gateway, I setup a Hotspot on my Galaxy S5 and used my phones LTE connection and was still only getting around 3.3Mbps. Now my phone will pull upwards of 25Mbps on LTE and the full 20 on my UVerse wifi.

Now the one that confuses me is I have a Cisco USB wifi adapter that I tried. And even with the USB adapter Im still only getting 3.3Mbps.

Any Ideas?

Just received my new laptop last week.  Over the course of the week, i noticed slow website loading, a 2.2mb fil taking 2 mins to download.  I went to and shocked to see the download speeds from .09mb - 5.43mb.  I have a 110MB down, 40MB up connection.  So i tested this with my other laptop and getting close to 30MB's better and expected.  I called Lenovo's tech suport they remoted into my machine and changed some configs in the advanced settings window of my adapter (Intel Wireless-N 7260).  Reboot, not any better. Then they had me change the channel on my router from Auto to channel 9.  Rebooted the router and tested again and now I am getting between 12-21mb and 7mb up.  After we disconnected thinking everything was good now my dell latptop now is registering at 66-69MB down and 38-41mb up.  So the channel change made everything faster but now I am left wondering what is wrong with my new Lenovo U530, specs says it up to a 300mb connection, and mind you when you check the connection in networking and shaing, it says its connected at 144mbps... what gives. I updated the BIOS on the machine, and even downloaded the new prowireless software from intels site but still getting 12mb-20mb download.  Is anyone else having this eperience or had it and know the fix? Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks in advanced. John

 Hi Chad76 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
With the connectivity issue , I would suggest to turn off / uncheck power saving from the property box of the device network adapter as shown on this link.
Transmit power to highest if available , Roaming aggressiveness / tendency highest  then restart .
Observe the changes on your connection.
Likewise to limit start up items that may be running from the background that may pick off some of the bandwidth, you may set the pc on clean boot as shown here.

I've a samsung laptop thats about 3 years old. its running Windows 7 home premium with 6GB Ram and an i3-2350 (2.3GHz) cpu

a while ago it was dog slow, taking 20 minutes for the Wifi to connect, when connected webpages would hang so i ran a bunch of AV scans and cleaned up what was found. updated the drivers and so on but still no luck. so i rebuilt it using the recovery partition to factory spec. it was running fine for a while

Now whats happening is any time uTorrent opens it hangs the laptop, thought it was maybe the windows Firewall so disabled that and it was no better. Switched to Deluge and that ran fine for a few days and again started acting up. but even outside the moral/legal/ethical aspects of using a torrent app the WiFi still takes minutes to connect, when the laptop boots it takes a good 5-10 minutes to be usable. once its running its fine until a torrent app are opened or theres more than 6 browser pages opened and then it becomes unresponsive again.

Ran an Avira AV scan and it came back clean, checked with Malwarebytes and that came back clean also.

any recpommendatiosn on where to start looking for a cause and resolution for this?

My desktop's (winxp home sp3) internet connection, connected via cable to our router, is very slow at the moment, to the extent where it downloads only kbs per minute. I've tried:
different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Opera... even IE)
disabling/removing/reinstalling firewall (PC tools plus), antivirus (avast) and program startup blocker (gogo data toolbar)
checking for spy/malware (Spybot S&D)
renewing ip address
system restore to earlier point
uninstall network adapter drivers/reboot install
different cable to router
with no success.

However my gf's laptop pc connecting via wifi to the same router has connectivity as usual.

Here are all the details I can think to provide - any suggestions to fix the problem, up to and including full XP reinstall, are welcome.

Answer:XP: very slow internet for desktop via wire, as normal on laptop via wifi - help?

I don't see how the gf laptop is fine on WiFi when you have latency from the router unless she's on a totally different WiFi network, check the name of the router she's on, also do a speed test without the router and see if you still get kb instead of mbps,

This can be a number of things, how old is your router, if you have other WiFi devices hook them up to your router test the speed, hardware the gf laptop to the router see if its still fine. If it turns out to be your pc you may have a bad nic or need to reset something in the operating system.

My laptop shuts down suddenly and I think it is either because of static electricity, cooling fan not working and unit shuts down because of over heating or both. In addition this laptop has terrible wifi reception. I have an old Dell Inspirion unit with Windows XP that still works and has great wifi reception. Anyway for the static electricity I think the problem is in the circuit between the ground connection between the computer (outside cylinder of male pin plug) pin and the electric ground pin of the plug to the wall receptacle. With the Dell laptop I get 0 resistance (using ohmmeter) across them. But with the HP I get anout 1 ohm and the resistance is in the transformer. With regards the overheating I used a vacuum cleaner with wand attachment to try to suck out dirt/lint through the fan discharge. Also I added rubber bump pads (sticking them with contact cement) to lift the bottom up higher to make it easier for cooling air to enter the bottom air intakes.  I  did not want to open up the unit. I saw how complicated it is from YouTube videos. I heard Dell laptops are easier to get into. The CD/DVD cover on the laptop will not open. I have to insert a wire through the hole near the button to open it. Alsio this laptop is super slow yet it has a i7-4710HQ CPU! HP this laptop sucks!

I have xp SP3 on my desktop and internet runs flawlessly on linux on my portable. I'm really close on changing OS forever (it's a pity I'm a gamer).

Here is my HJT log:

I went to McDonalds two month's ago and my computer went crazy and got realy slow. I have tried to use it several times since and the click delay is terrible. I'll type a word then wait after the first letter appears on the sreen for about 10 sec then the rest of the word appears. During that 10 seconds my computer is locked up.

I Ray Malwarebytes, AVG, Eset the found a couple issues but that did not fix the computer. I then ran ComboFix and it would not run. I downloaded a new version and only #49 completed. It usually runs 50 scans. Now it will only run #49. I tried additional downloads of ComboFix and it will not run. Also the cursor jumps to other parts of a page when typing online or in a program.

Answer:Slow Computer attacked at wifi in McDonald's

Since you ran Combofix....Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic. If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient. If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

I will give as much info on my computer sucking as I know, if you need anything else to help just let me know. Thanks in advance.
Basically computer is running slow. It takes much longer to open any programs, and really struggles with larger files. My music file is the worst (about 30gigs) takes about 2 minutes to change from one file to another in there. Operation on the internet is also much slower than it used to be with the same connection.
Some other weird things - Sometimes will play music randomly (sometimes from media player, not sure about the other times) When trying to attach file to say an email or something the "Browse" button does absolutely nothing. Internet will freeze up every once in a while and shut down, for no reason. If I try and listen to ringtones on it freaks out and shuts my internet page down every time. (has only done that on that site consistently)
I'm sure I've forgotten or overlooked a few minor problems, but that's the main ones I can think of right now.

My fiance and I are in the same room as the wireless router. My computer is hooked up to the ethernet itself, no problem there. Our roommate is in another part of the house (far away from the router), and he says he's getting insanely fast internet. My fiance's laptop (which is the Compaq F700 duo-core laptop running Vista) was working great for a week or so at this house. Then suddenly one day she comes home from work, and her internet is running like it's hooked up to 28.8k. If she hooks up to the ethernet, the connection on her computer is amazing.
- Roommate's integrated Wifi is working GREAT from far away from the wireless router
- Problem computer is ten feet from the router itself and getting terrible speed
- Definitely connected to our network (with a unique name)

So as far as I can tell, the problem is not our provider, not our router, and not range. It seems to lie solely with the way the wireless software (or possibly hardware) is set up.

No one changed any settings before this happened, but the computer is set up to update automatically.

If anyone has any input that could help, we would be incredibly grateful. We're at the end of our ropes on this one.

I've got brand new X220 with i5, and 6-cell battery. The problem is that the internett speed is ok the first 10-15 min,  but after 10-20 min download speed seems unstable and slow. Does load constant if i stream or go to a page.  I have tried several method in order to fix my internet problem. Without luck I have tried:Updating the driver, updating the BIOS, tried to change channel in modem, i tried to set AUTO under wireless settings, i have tried to have the charger in and whitout, I have tried with wireless-usb-card, One interesting fact, when i sit very close to the modem, the speed becomes good and stable. The speed is also good on different network.  Also with Cabel it seemed good. What can be the problem, and how can i  solve it? i have wireless card Wifi Link 1000 BGN 802.11n with channel for brand 2.4.

Hi all.
I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite C50-A02-V running Windows 8 Home Edition.

I've never really had the fastest internet, but its always been alright for what I used it for... untill i purchased this computer. Suffice it to say the internet is... a little below sub par.
Heres a speedtest...

My phone, My sisters Laptop running windows 7, even my old 2006 IBM running Linux all are getting speedtests with Download speeds of at least 5-6Mbps from the same router, with at least 5-6Mbps.
And yet here I am, brand new computer in hand, with memories of dialup floating through my head.

I've been on message boards trying to find an answer to this for hours. I've changed the Wireless settings to not turn off the Wifi. I've checked Toshiba's Website and downloaded the latest WLAN driver. I deleted literally every last ounce of bloatware from the computer when I got it, so I don't THINK that's an issue. There's no torrents or security running either.

Basicaly I have no idea what to do.

Now the weird thing is if I turn the computer on, and do a speedtest right away, I'm getting a fast Ping and a download of 5 Mbps instead of the 0.6...

Any Help or ideas on what to do?

Answer:Impossibly Slow Wifi Speed, Brand New Computer.

Did you try an ethernet cable instead of wireless? If that works normally, read on...

I had a problem like this many years ago, it turned out to be something wrong with the drivers for the network card I was using. To fix it, go into device manager and find the entry for the wireless network adapter (eg "xyz wireless network adapter"). Right click on the adapter and select "remove". Reboot the machine. It should detect the adapter as new hardware and reinstall the drivers for the network hardware. Of course you may need to supply the drivers at this point if they are not available on the machine.

This is somewhat techy and if you are not a level 2 nerd you may want to get a qualified friend to help...

I will contact Cox shortly with the information, but my brother's computer has seemingly gone from okay to worse even after having scanned with ADWcleaner. It's laggy and whenever he turns it on, it reboots our internet modem and kicks us out of the internet for awhile. I can't even run ADWcleaner again without serious lag.

I'm hoping we can get it back to normal, so I'm posting here. Will contact COX internet about what website triggered the warning that our internet has been compromised.

Hello, We've had this computer for over a year and a half. It was a gift to my parents. I've noticed that it's always been insanely slow. So I limited what was allowed during startup. That didn't change anything. Also, I've changed the paging file in Windows 10 settings to match the computer recommended settings, and that did nothing. I've uininstalled most of what came with the computer, but it's still slow. Also, the computer doesn't reboot. It'll always say that it's getting Windows ready, and to not shut Windows down. I've come back to check a couple hours later, and it's still getting ready to reboot. This is unacceptable. The computer is an Envy X360 m6-w101dx. I want a clean install of Windows 10, no bloatware. Please make this happen for me.

Answer:Slow laptop, a whole bunch of other issues

@ac2017 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! What you are calling "bloatware" is what HP included with the preinstalled OSs -- and any HP Recovery Media is automatically going to reinstall that stuff when you do a factory reset.  There is no way around that. The ONLY way to avoid the "bloatware" is to install an MS clean version of Win10, but the product key that came embedded in your PC is for the HP OEM version of Win10. I have heard that doing a clean-install will work and will activate -- but I do not have an HP preinstalled Win10 PC to test that, so there's a chance that will not work. What I would do, if this were mine, would create an image backup of the PC on an external drive using a utility known as Macrium Reflect.  That way, if the clean-install worked but would not activate, I would have an image to restore FROM to get the previous PC installation back> Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives: I recommend is the following:1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB stick3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CDMy experience is that MR, when using the High Compression option, typically can compress the saved image file to about 50%... and i am told i have no registry/logs issues, and was advised to request help on this forum.

the tests ive done show my ram as 1gb but the available memory as low as 135mb. it seems something is slowing the laptop down.

any idea's?

Answer:Slow laptop - software issues

You don't need these running:

copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

"Adobe Reader Speed Launcher"=-
"Adobe ARM"=-

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

There isn't much else running that could be slowing you up.

AMD Turion 64, 1.79 GHz,512 MB, 80 GB hard drive with about 35 GB free. when i first got it, it was super fast. now not so much. very slow start up and even slower logon. and it has started freezing up every now and then. i run AVG free, Ad-Aware, and Spybot S & D. all comes up clear. i've done disk clean ups and defrag. i've run msconfig and got rid of all the misc crap. i don't have a lot of desktop icons, maybe 12. i also keep it on a notebook fan so i don't think its overheating. not sure what the next step should be any advice would be really great. sorry to blabber on, thanks in advance."

TheMatt told me to do the five step process b/c he thought it might be a malware issue. I did everything. when i ran the panda active scan it stopped in the middle, microsoft office popped up with some sort of setup window. Answer:slow laptop with connectivity issues

(1) there's quite a number of ways to increase your PC laptop speed.
- Here are somethings you can do to speed up your system performance.
- Run the Microsoft Automated Fix-it tool to check your system performance poor performance.

(2) Regarding your internet connection speed, here are some possibilities you can look into.

- You?re accessing the web during peak hours.
- You?re downloading files via download manager in the background thus consuming bandwidth
- Disable anti-virus software or firewall.
- Download Google Chrome and see if it runs faster.
- Disable or remove unecessary add on from your IE or firefox browser.

Actually I've just published a free report on my site that covers this more in depth, in PC trouble#7. You can download if you want to read more about it. Just go down to the site and download the free report.

If you need more help on this, just give me a yell.

Sorry for any bad spelling and such. I'm having to type this fast before my computer starts freezing up again.

I've had this Windows 8 computer for a couple years. It's always run great until recently. I'm running just plain old Windows 8, not 8.1 or anything else. I bought the computer with Windows 8 on it.

Lately it's started going extremely slow and has slow reaction times to almost everything. The weird thing is it will run smoothly, like right now while I'm typing this, and then drop back to going extremely slow or unresponsive. It takes a while to go into sleep mode and a long time to come back out. Windows will randomly close or become unresponsive. I can programs for only a few minutes at a time usually before they crash. Chrome works sometimes but after a while it almost always crashes on me. If I try to open my app to screen to search or do anything it freezes up. If I wait a long time it will sometimes eventually finish what I was searching for. I am having an issue where my CD/DVD burner won't burn disks anymore but it will play them.

Here's a little more info about my computer:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3635QM CPU @ 2.40GHz
8 GB of RAM
64-bit Operating System, x64 based processor
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics card
907 GB of space and 155 GB free

I've gotten a Kernal_Data_Inpage_Error BSOD a number of times over the last couple of weeks.
Here's a list of some of the things I've tried all ready and the results.

The computer was running without protection and maintenance. I took care of it by running avast, adaware, malwarebytes, and here are the logs.

Is there anything else that is going on? It is still running poorly. The internet was not working and it is working now. I am getting constant warnings about trojan attacks - example (win32: hilot) from Avaast

Thanks so much!!

Got a system error from microsoft that closed GMR when running it.

Hi all! My wife's computer (a Dell Dimension DE051 - Intel Celeron 2.53GHz processor - 2 GB RAM) runs way slower than it should. It also has issues on sites with Flash or Java content (I'm not sure which or if it is both). I've tried defrags, virus scans, spyware scans, registry cleaners and boosting the original 512mb RAM to the above mentioned 2 GB RAM and still the blessed thing is slower than my Aunt Tilly's digestive tract... but I gotta tell ya folks!
(I'll be here all week, remember to tip your waitresses!).

Hello everyone. I've just arrived at my Mother's house and she's having lots of problems with her computer. She had no anti virus installed and told me that some mornings she would come to the computer to find that certain applications had either appeared or disappeared. I noticed that many of the things I had previously installed for her are now missing.

I downloaded and installed AVG Anti Virus but now the computer is running slower than ever - it takes anywhere between 2 and 3 minutes for an internet explorer page to open - and sometimes in the middle of being on a webpage, it will suddenly open to a new webpage though I haven't touched anything.

It seems to me there is some sort of virus or something, but I didn't find anything that wasn't deleted during the virus scan. Any thoughts? I would really appreciate some help.

Hello everyone!I'm using Windows 7 and I've been having all sorts of issues with my computer. The biggest one is that it's extremely slow, taing several minutes to do even the simplest tasks. The programs often crash too. I have tried running Malwarebytes and Avast scans, Malware removed some files but the issue is still there.I also can't open Chrome or Firefox at all. I tried unstalling Chrome and downloading the installer on Internet Explorer, but nothing happened. It doesn't even show up in the transfer list. In general, the computer seems to be completely ignoring inputs at times.I would really appreciate any help provided!

As title says, my wifi works fine on my laptop but won't work on my computer. This hasn't been an issue previously but I moved house and now can't get on. I've tried two different dongles, changing the channel my router goes on and a new router. The computer connects and says it has internet access but then whenever I try and load a webpage it just keeps loading and never actually brings up the page. Also tried a few ipconfig (flushdns, release and renew) through cmd as I was instructed to by a friend - but now can't think of anything else. Also, it has three out of 5 bars of strength but sometimes when I switch the computer on it doesn't even detect the network at all.

Any help?

Hi guys. Recently bought new HP laptop, ran into problems since day one.I took it back thinking it was maybe a problem with the computer itself, so I exchanged it for another one but the same model type. These are the issues I ran into:First laptop:1. Downloaded Chrome first up, that worked fine. Tried to download iTunes, download become interupted at 12% (after many clean attempts to download it) every time. Exactly 12%.I tried Microsoft edge, and would get to 10% before the download was interupted. Again, 10% every time. 2. Thinking it was an update issue, I tried updating the computer with all the Windows updates. Couldn't complete any of the installations. I would get an error saying "Installation complete: Failed to install". 3. Even tried turning off Firewall, turning off/uninstalling McAfee (partially because they did an antivirus deal with it, which I wouldn't have bought if I knew the computer already had an AV!), still didn't work. 4. Tried system restore a few times, nothing fixed. Watching YouTube would work fine for maybe 15 minutes before webpages would load all the way to a crawl, before evnetually failing to load. Restarting the computer would fix the problem for another 15 minutes, before the cycle began again. Took the laptop back and exchanged for the same model. Laptop 2 issues:1. Again, can't properly download iTunes. Interuptions at 10% again using Microsoft Edge. But that's if the download would eve... Read more

I'm not sure whether to system restore or fight to try and fix my laptop but here are the problems that I am aware of.

- Recently the audio turns off randomly, USUALLY it turns off if I turn up the volume on the computer.
- The laptop has been getting progressively slower over the years
- The Icon Tray at the bottom, near the clock is broken, when I click the little arrow to expand, it takes about 10 seconds to load and then pops up as a huge, white, empty box. It takes a good few minutes for the box to close if I click on another window and the whole computer freezes up during that time.
- When I go to "Folder Options" and then go to "View", the icon for "Files and Folders" is a black square, and where "Hidden files and folders" is, there is another black box next to that with the two options listed in caps lock; "NOHIDDEN" and "SHOWALL". Both of which are un-ticked and cannot be ticked (I can provide pictures for any of these claims if that helps, I'm not the best at articulation).

Over the years I've tried various methods to fix problems that I just pick up from the internet when others get help, I've never actually sought help that applies directly to me. Here are my FRST and Addition logs.

I've already had some fanastic help in the WIN XP forum trying to isolate this issue. The result has been a cleaner Startup menu and an overall cleaned up system. However, the core issue I'm having is not yet resolved and I thought I would start over here and see if someone can recognize something or make some suggestions on where to go from here.

Link to original thread:

ISSUE: A week and a half ago, I brought my 2 year-old Dell Vostro 1500 laptop (150 GB HD, approx 35GB free, 2 gigs RAM, 1.4ghz duo Intel processor) to my father's house. A neighbor of his has an unsecured network that my computer kept trying to connect to. I was busy trying to copy a CD of pictures onto my computer for him so that I could make copies for family. I *should* have just switched off the radio button on my laptop, but I just kept working on the CD.

When I tried to do a simple "drag and drop" of the pics to my computer, it said that the D: drive was "inaccessible". I ended up using Roxio to do the copies which worked fine, although it seemed to be very slow and it hung once. Then I got the BSOD and the error message, BAD_POOL_CALLER. Tried again, got the CD's to copy and then my problems really started.

Since then, when I am using anything (IE, or any program on my computer) it seems to work fine for about 15-20 minutes and then it locks up. Nothing works, all disk dri... Read more

Hi there, Hope you can help here. Firstly details of the laptop below SInce i have upgraded to to Windows 10 i am expereincing a few issues. 1. The laptop has slowed down considerably. Takes a good minute or so to boot up from switching on. Seems to be running in the background quite a lot, without any instructions from me to do anything.2. The mouse is has a 2/3 second delay before actually moving the cursor. Very frustrating.3. The red light on the mouse pad is on constantly. When i double tap it to turn it off, the mouse does not work. It appears the functions have been reversed - normally the red light signified the mousepad is turned off. Any help with any of the above would be warmly received. Best regards Gav

Answer:Windows 10 upgrade. Laptop slow and mousepad issues

Windows 10 updates run in the background automatically and cannot be stopped. The updates might be running in background slowing down the computer. I would suggest you check the windows updates and let it update all updates and then check the performance. If the memory usage is high, there could be lag in mouse responce. Check and stop unwanted programs from running from startup.Once upgraded to Win 10, there could be few driver issues. Win 10 might be using generic drivers, hence download the drivers from and update the touchpad drivers.: If the above fails, i would suggest you run recovery and get the computer to factory condition and then upgrade to Win 10.

Just boosted my ISP BBand speed from 10MB to 30MB... the wired pc and the wifi laptop have shown great improvement (approx 40MB), however the wifi desktop is still slow. I have replaced the adapter to a new up-to-date one, (USB) and alothough it is showing small improvement it is still restricting to approx 15MB.

You should run this tunnel adaptor remover first. Too many of these indicates a driver problem and it will also ruin your connection if there are too many of those tunnel adaptors. This problem happens all the time. Click and save the zip file, then run the zip file and reboot.

You might also considering using a different driver for this network adaptor. If the problem happens again it may help to remove the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter using device manager as it's known to cause connection problems such as you seem to be having.

Just use Tunnel Adapter – Microsoft 6to4 adapter Remover
