Windows 7 System Disk for a Dell Inspiron

Question: Windows 7 System Disk for a Dell Inspiron

I recently installed a distro of Linux on my dell Inspiron, after deciding it wasn't for me I wanted to get use the windows 7 boot loader and remove Linux. No problem, I thought, I'll just boot up the windows 7 system disk, use the repair option to overwrite GRUB and delete the Linux partitions.

Problem is my dell laptop doesn't appear to have come with an install disk for windows 7. It does, however, come with a disk called 'application', 'drivers and utilities', 'resource media' and 'roxio creator strater'. There isn't a possibilty that my OS is hiding one of these is there?

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 System Disk for a Dell Inspiron

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows 7 System Disk for a Dell Inspiron

Hello OffAndOnAgain and welcome to TSF,

If you didn't remove the hidden recovery partition, you can restore your PC using that. Depending on what Dell machine you have, you can either restore with backup discs or with a built in startup command. Use one of the methods below:

1. Download/Buy a recovery disc here.
2. Press CTRL + F11 during bootup, choose to restore the system.

Tried a PC Restore using Dell's website instructions. Now have a black screen with message "Loading PBR for descriptor 3 ... done. Non-system disk, press any key. There's no floppy drive, and no CD in the CD drive. Dell didn't provide a reinstall CD, but tried using an older XP reinstall CD and restarting. That didn't help.

Answer:dell inspiron 1300 non-system disk error mess

You should have a recovery partition on your drive. To access, you restart and press (I believe) the F8 key and follow instructions.

I bought a new Dell i3847 and it has Windows 7 Pro 64bit factory installed on it.
I wanted to do a full system backup, but the Dell Backup and Recovery software will not allow me to do a system backup.  Further, I have been unable to create a system recovery disk using Dell Backup and Recovery.
I can't use the Dell provided system disk for recovery because it is clearly marked Windows 8.1

1) Why is a Win 8.1 disk included with a Win 7 Pro 64bit system?
2) What is wrong with Dell Backup and Recovery that it:
a) can't create a factory recovery disk
b) won't allow me to create a system back up so I can return it to the factory state

Help!

It's been 2.5 hours and it is still "initializing disk" to create a factory recovery.  It usually fails somewhere during initialization or writing.    Spending hours for each failed attempt to create a factory recovery disk is NOT GOOD!

Answer:Help! - New Dell i3847 - Windows 7 Pro - Dell Recovery Disk is Win 8.1 & DBaR won't let me do a System Backup

It has now been 4 hours and Dell Backup and Recovery is sitting on "Initializing Disk" under create Factory Recovery Media

I can't have it take hours and hours, then fail and then try again.... then take hours and hours.... then fail ... then hours ... then fail...

I've got a new Inspiron 15 a couple of days ago with the following configuration:
Intel core  i7 7700HQ cpu
16GB DDR4
512GB SSD (bios reports M.2 PCIe ssd-0) -- no other hard drive
Graphics card NVidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti
Screen resolution 3840 x 2160
My problem is that I cannot split the hard disk into 2 partitions nor can i shrink the partition on which windows is installed from within windows. I used both the windows gui (disk management) and the command line program diskpart.
Does anyone have any idea?

Answer:New DELL Inspiron 15 7000 denies to shrink windows installation hard disk drive

It sounds like you might have a 7567 Gaming system.  If so, Windows will shrink a partition if it can. I would not recommend using a third party utility to shrink it since problems could happen and you might lose the system.
If you need another partition, you should have an option to place a 2.5 inch drive in the system for that.

Hey people,
So I wanted to install Ubuntu (or some other linux os) alongside Windows with dual boot and all. After going through some problems, I found out that my disk is dynamic and that was what was causing all the issues. I tried looking for ways to convert dynamic disks to basic ones without wiping them, but no luck. There were some programs that supposedly do that, but when I tried using them, the option wasn't there or returned some error. Is there some way around that? I really want to install a linux os, but I don't want to delete everything.
Any help is appreciated :D

Answer:Converting dynamic disk to basic disk Dell inspiron 15R 5537

Have you tried AOMEI Dynamic Disk Converter? I once used it, and it went successfully. it provides
two options to convert dynamic disk to basic disk.
Method 1: Convert a dynamic disk back to basic disk. Safely, directly and time-saving (only take 3-10 seconds) revert a dynamic disk back to basic disk without losing data. Method 2: Convert any dynamic volume to basic partition. Sector by sector clone simple volume, spanned volume, striped volume, mirrored volume and RAID-5 volume from dynamic to basic disk.

I was recently given a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with windows XP Media Center Edition as a gift. I am very grateful for the gift as a single mother of two in college. The only problem is, that this computer has been a problem since the first time I turned it on. It constantly had to suddenly shut windows down and kept telling me to run CHKDSK/F and restart. It never would work till today. After the computer restarted now every time I try to turn it on it first goes to a boot menu asking to start in safe mode, a few others and start windows normally, and then no matter what I choose the entire screen goes blue and says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." and some more about disabling antivirus and back up utilities and to run CHKDSK/F but the screen never changes and I can't do anything. I am hoping this can be fixed, even though the computer has been a pain, I have to have it for school and will be devastated without it. If someone out there can help me fix my computer I will be so grateful.

Hi All,

I having a problem with this laptop that when I go the search screen, it shows the puppy dog, and I can make the tail wag, but it doesn't show any options to search for anything.

System restore will start up and it's blank. Same sort of thing.

Windows updates, also goes blank when I run it (I can do them manually).

When I go to look at user accounts, it's blank too.

I ran Spybot S&D on it, and it seems okay.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 6400 won't allow searching,system restore, windows updates

click start, run, type cmd, typed sfc /scannow. You will need you xp cd for this if it finds any errors. If that doesn't solve the issue post back.

Hi guys

I have a Dell Inspiron, 4gb, 64bit. Windows Vista, home premium.

First issue;
The system would freeze and flash and turn off at the slightest flick, such as a slight tap on the keyboard.

Second issue;
I took it apart for a clean, and thermal paste renewal, once I put it all together, I tested it and still the exact same, but now it's developed a NEW problem...I ran it all night without an issue, the next morning I turned it on and there was a problem... The screen wouldn't turn on, no back lights, not even the slightest suggestion the screen was on. Completely dead.

I took the power button section out, turned it on, worked perfectly, put it back on, back to square one.

Then I removed the keyboard plastic surrounding, and it worked fine, then put it all back together and same problem...

It's completely free from any virus. The laptop is using a 65w charger when it should be using a 90w charger, (not my laptop).

I've received the follow message a few times; "timer chip counter 2 failed" Explanations?

The screen is my main issue at the moment, it's on with no pressure, then off with pressure.

Thanks for your time

Abz

Hi, I've just reformatted my Inspiron N5010 laptop, reinstalled WIndows 7 and now my Wifi doesnt work. Been trolling through the web I believe the issue here is with the driver as the attachment in Device Manager. I tried clicking on Software Update but it could not find the anything online. I tried to use Dell System Detect but it says format issue until I found a post in this forum stating to install Microsoft Net Framework. Title of post is Dell System Detect (DSD) launch error. It seems to have installed but when I run DSD nothing pops up. I was hoping DSD can help me identify the right driver. Can someone please help me with DSD, or maybe help me identify the right driver required? I hope I'm on the right track to resolve the WIfi issue.

Brand new laptop, I just received and tried to create a recovery USB drive.  I run "create recovery drive' wizard and got "a problem occurred while creating the recovery drive" error.  I could create a recovery drive when I unchecked "Back up system files to the recovery drive"
I googled the issue and found that it might be related to missing or corrupted install.wim file.  did I get bad laptop??  Tried Dell tech support but couldn't get any support....

Answer:Can not create a recovery disk with system files on Windows 10 inspiron 15 5000 laptop

I have the same problem on an Inspiron 13 running Windows 10. Creating a recovery USB drive always fails with "problem occurred while creating the recovery drive".
Following the suggestion of user "Mogojohn" on the Microsoft forum, I was able to do "Create System Image" by selecting "Settings", "Update & Security", "Backup", "More Options", "See Advanced Settings", and then look for System Image Backup at the lower left. Here is the Microsoft forum thread:
social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e90b650b-49b9-4963-b3ed-6f487d2a7eb7
I backed up the system onto 4 image DVD's plus a System Repair DVD. I restored the system using these DVD's and everything seems to be OK so far.
Restoring this system image does not get you to a factory install, instead it takes you to the system state when you created the system image. But this is at least enough for me not to return the Dell Inspiron 13 (for now).
I would still appreciate it if Dell would explain how to get the Create USB Recovery function to work.

Does anyone has any idea about it?
Thank you,

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 3000 stuck in Dell logo loop after system reset failed

I'm assuming the system is on windows 10....
I'd suggest you try to get system to boot into the Recovery Repairs screen. At the Dell logo screen, turn off your computer using the hard reset /power button. Keep turning the computer on and off until you see your PC booting into the Recovery Repairs Option screen, see image below. It should only take a few reboots.

I just bought a Dell Inspiron.  I know very little about androids.  Dell keeps on wanting me to install/update a Dell recovery system.  Should I try to ignore this?  Will this cost me money after a trial period?  Thanks

Answer:Dell inspiron - Dell recovery system

Did you buy your Dell New?The recovery system is usually part of a Dell computer. It enables you to recover your operating system in the event of a crash. What does android have to do with your issue? Unless there is a specific page that tells you there will be a charge,I wouldn't think so ,unless they are wanting you to upload to the "Cloud". Can you be more specific?
What is your operating System?

I'm hoping someone can help...

The other night I downloaded a new Ricoh SD card reader driver and it asked me after installation to restart the computer which I did, only to receive 'Disk Read Error, press ctrl + alt + del to restart.

Restart and same thing, tried the BIOS settings to change around the order of how things were booting up - didn't work.

At first I thought it was because of the driver I installed, then further research showed that Dell has a problem with older laptops having a 137GB limit.

I swapped out my smaller 60GB HD last year for a bigger Western Digital one and am now thinking it has gone past this limit and this is why its happening.

My question is IF this is the problem (and I really don't know if it is) can I take out my hard drive and put it in another laptop that will support a bigger HD, delete some stuff then put it back in my laptop and have it back to normal OR is it likely that the whole drive is corrupted?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Disk Read Error - Dell Inspiron 6000

I think XP SP2 overcame the 137GB limit.

As far as the whole drive corrupt, I would suspect the SD card reader driver as the culprit.

Yes, it is possible to attach a laptop hd to another computer through the USB port using an adapter, like this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._re=IDE_to_USB_adapter-_-12-156-101-_-Product
this only accepts IDE type drives.
There are more expensive adapters that accept both IDE and SATA drives.

I would not install the hd from this computer into another laptop because the hardware is different and it either would not boot or to boot would make changes and then putting it back into the original laptop would cause more problems.
Simply attach it and use the working laptop to view what is on the hard drive and see if anything actually has to be deleted.

I still think the Ricoh sd card driver is the problem. Unfortunately without being able to boot into windows, even in safe mode to remove the driver is next to impossible.

My P.C has started giving an error. "No internal hard disk found". Press F1 to restart F2 to run setup utility F5 to run PSA.When I go to setup utility there sometimes it shows the fixed HDD, and sometimes there is written "None"...When I ran diagnostics, initially it did not give any error about hard disk. But now today diagnostic showed a message that "Hard disk not attached". I have to restart again and again to reach operating system.
Operating system also gave the error thrice "Your P.c have some issues" today the Stop code was Memory management.
What could be the problem....??

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15, Hard disk related issue.

It appears that the HDD (hard disk drive) could be intermittently failing. If you are in the operating system now, you should start saving your data (documents, MP3, pictures, etc.) to a USB HDD. We will need your exact model number to know what HDDs can be installed.

All;
How do I go about getting the 3rd recovery disk, (required for a full system reset).  Right after I bought my Inspiron 3650, I went through the Create Recovery Media, which created TWO, (not three), DVDs.
I believe a bug was introduced between when the 3650 was released, and Dell updated their Backup/Recovery module.  The problem I'm having, is during the restore, I'm prompted to put disk three in, (which, of course, I do NOT have) !

In the morning the pc was working just fine, i turned it off and then back on to change to a another operating system. Instead of taking me to the boot options it took me to a black screen saying;
intenal hard disk drive not found
to resolve this issue, try to reseat the drive.
No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry to boot, F2 enter Setup Menu, F5 enter PSA
I didnt did anything to the pc, it was just sitting in the table and so I doubt it may be related to the hardware as several forums say.
When I enter the BIOS it says on Fixed HDD; ST500LM012 HN-M500MBB                                              (500 Gb)
Here the details of the computer
Dell Inspiron 15N 3520
Windows 8 (with 8.1 Preview and Ubuntu)
uses UEFI
Core I5 2.5 GHz
4GB DDR3 Ram
500 GB of HDD (i think it has a 32GB SSD cache)

Please help, i have tried reading all over the internet and trying everything  that does not require opening the device (the device is new and is not easy as I would like it to be).
Can anyone tell me what to do or if it can be saved without any hardware change? It only has about 2 months and  i have important information inside (yeah no back up...)

Answer:Dell Inspiron 3520 Internal Disk not Found

Hi joseph97svl,
Thank you for the update.
Since the HDD is detected in the BIOS and also the test passed, the hardware is functioning as designed. I suspect it is a software issue and you may consider restoring the system using the recovery discs.  Follow the instruction given in the following link to restore the system using the recovery media:
http://dell.to/12Z2Lkq
In case the recovery discs are not created, send me a private message with the system service tag to assist you further.  Please click on my name and click Start Conversation to send me a private message.

My three year old Inspiron 7737 running Windows10 Home has ground to a halt mainly because of 50-100% ST1000LM014-1EJ164 disk utilisation. I was thinking about replacing this disk with a 500GB SSD however I do not have my original Windows8 media and associated license key (and this would need to be upgraded to Windows10 which I achieved free of charge). I currently have  643GB free of 913GB so this would be feasible if this could be achieved ideally without the need to purchase a Microsoft license and installing from scratch.
Is there a cost effective way of speeding up my laptop using my current licensed Windows10 OS?
Thanks in anticipation.

Answer:Improve Disk Performance : DELL Inspiron 7737

1) Your Windows 8 key would be embedded into your BIOS, so you wouldn't need it if you wanted to reinstall Windows 8.  But you don't even have to do that because....
2) When you upgraded to Windows 10, your system would have received a "digital entitlement" license.  Basically, Microsoft's activation servers have recorded that your system has a Windows 10 Home license, so you could perform a clean install of Windows 10 at any time and your system would activate just fine.  You'll never need a product key for that.
3) If you still want to avoid doing a clean install, use a tool like Macrium Reflect Free to capture an image of your system and restore it onto the SSD.  Or even better, buy a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter so you can connect your SSD temporarily that way, then do a direct clone of your existing drive onto the SSD, which Macrium Reflect Free can also do.  Then shut the system down, install the SSD internally, and you're good to go.

I purchased a Dell inspiron 11 3000 2 and 1 which i wanted  a smaller tablet but there are some problems with this particular product.

1. The disk space is only 32GB in which Dell loads it with a bunch of stuff. I've deleted all of it and still not enough disk space to update windows 10.
2.Only software i am running on it is MS office is there any other thing i can do to free up the 8GB required for the windows update.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 3000 2 for 1 updates and disk space

If you haven't done so, make a set of recovery media - you can then reclaim the space on the system that's holding the recovery image.  You'll need a 16G or larger flash drive you can dedicate to the recovery image.

Hi,
I am planning to buy New Dell Inspiron 15 series 7000. I would want to replace the harddisk with SSD by next year or so. But i wanted to know if i can have SSD along with hard disk in this laptop.
I wanted both good performance along with large storage. So i was wondering if i can have two disks at once.
Thanks in advance

Answer:Can i have SSD along with hard disk in New Dell Inspiron 15 series 7000

mSATA and mini-PCI express have the same form factor but are electrically different.   It doesn't look like any of the newer Inspiron 7000 series models have mSATA connectors -- the older 3rd generation ones did, though.
If you want an SSD along with a hard drive, you'll need to consider  an XPS system - not an Inspiron.

When I purchased my Dell Inspiron in 2010 Dell refused to supply me with a proper WIn 7 installation disk even though I offered to pay a little extra for it. It was the recovery partition or nothing. As recommended, I did make a repair disk at the time. I assume it can't be used to make a repair reinstall but if it can I'd be grateful for any details.
Would my cynical view that this was all to do with Dell making an extra profit and nothing to do with them being helpful to their customers be correct?
Six years later this could well be becoming a serious problem to me. I'm having one or two incipient problems and it could well end up in having to do some sort of reinstallation of Win 7. As far as I can see I have a number choices.
1) Use the recovery partition, that is a factory reset. I now have 6 years worth of downloaded software plus numerous tweaks, some of which took me ages to find - try to get any audio-related program to work "out of the box" and see what happens. I would only do this in extremis.
2) Do a repair reinstall, the favourite option of many threads on Windows problems. Er, excuse me, Dell have made it impossible to do a repair reinstall.
3) Contact the MS site that supplies ISO images of Win 7. Oh dear! As an OEM, Dell would appear to be on the banned list. Microsoft refuse point blank to supply anything.
4) Ah, there's a site ... Read more

I've had this problem with a few disks actually--disks with media burned on them (I think QuickTime format), but for whatever reason DVDs either work immediately or take only one or two tries before succeeding.

I am trying to install a legit student copy of MATLAB, the disk is brand new but does somehow have one or two scratches, very minor. Usually the drive tries to read the disk for maybe 30 seconds before giving up, occasionally it spins without any sign of stopping until I pop the disk out when it starts to get hot. Clicking on the drive in the 'my computer' menu just tells me I need to insert a disk into the drive.

All of my drivers should be up to date. Also, for the record, the disk is fine and will run on other computers, just like the previous disks it's been unable to read.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1521 DVD RW drive will not read MATLAB install disk

Sounds like a bad disk drive. I had a dell Inspiron 1720 that would do the same thing. I finally gave up on it and bought an external DVD drive and it worked fine. You could try ordering a replacement DVD drive from Dell.

Hola!

=====================================================

I'm working on a Dell Inspiron 546 that is Windows 7 64bit and has a recovery partition. The hard drive is partitioned something like 10MB-14GB-460GB.

CTRL+F11 DOES NOT WORK ON THIS SYSTEM

Pressing F8 gets the Windows boot options and "Repair Your Computer" is at the top. When selected, you see a couple white progress bars but it then starts to load into regular Windows 7, not the recovery software/partition.

The PC boots to Windows 7 just fine and there is a program called Dell DataSafe that recognizes that the factory default recovery partition is there and even lets you make a bootable key or disc or just run the recovery after a reboot. If you run the recovery and reboot it then gives an error that it can't find \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe and if you hit Enter after this it then boots to the OS.

I tried creating a USB key and got the same winload.exe error but when I pulled out the key and hit Enter it then said it couldn't find \boot\BCD. The BCD on the USB key seems to be pointing to all of the correct resources (WIM file) on the USB key and the BCD looks like a BCD I have on another USB utility drive I have so I'm not really sure what's wrong.

There are a couple BCDs on the recovery partition and I'm wondering if they could be bad even though bcdedit displays them properly. I'... Read more

Hi, Recently the Tech guy at my work threw out a bunch of computer towers and other computer parts etc..In amongst all of that was a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 with no battery or AC adapter. So I took it home and plugged in an AC adapter that met the specs. It powered up and says the following: SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 2
Warning: Immediately back-up you data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent. Press F1 to continue.I press F1 and it Starts Windows. It then goes to a screen stating Windows Error Recovery. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Then they give you 2 options. Launch Startup Repair (recommended) or Start Windows Normally. I tried both of these without much luck. During the Startup Repair it says Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. Well I know that the problem is obviously the hard drive is corrupt. I will need to replace the hard drive. I have tried to click F8 a ton of times during boot up and it won't get me to that option. I have tried plugging in an external cd/dvd drive and boot from the cd. It cannot get the mini 1012 to boot up that way. I changed the boot sequence to boot up from cd drive first. I don't understand why the F8 function won't work. Also during the System Recovery option I got it to a screen stating: To access recovery options, log on as a local user. To access the command prompt as well, log on using an administrator account. Usern... Read more

ok first of all let me start off with audio i bought this laptop earlier this month and i noticed after a week tht one of the speakers wasnt making any sound so i looked it up and most people said its probably a driver or a balance so i checked all sorts of sound tests balance left speaker right speaker mute or not mute (only the left speaker works) i uninstalled the drivers (realtek) tried it out with the trusted(sarcasm) windows 8 drivers  only sound tht came was left side i also checked it with it dell diagnostics  both  in windows and before windows it showed tht everything was perfect and the bios dell diagnostics had a sound check so i tried that and only had sound in the left one (so im guessing its not a windows problem). So if i have missed sumthing here pls enlighten me also i havent installed vlc or wutever sound mods so i didnt blow it up infact i dont think i ever even made my sound volume goto 100.Second problem is the damn grahics driver first time i opened my laptop it told me to check my graphics driver and started acting out (my screen was blurry) so i tried to install the latest driver which didnt help so i returned the laptop and got a new one..same problem after which i discovered that theres a specific driver that it recommended which works. Now  if any of you r assuming that oh so what just cuz the graphics driver isnt up todate it should atleast perform normally not act like sumthings broken or overheated ...well no it does anyho ... Answer:problems with dell inspiron 15 3521 : bios , graphics driver , disk cashe

azk_1yes it was the pre windows dell dignostics the one u get from f12 wen u turn the pc on
That might have been the PSA diagnostics. The Dell 32-bit Diagnostics audio tests play a short piece of music, but the PSA tests just play the system tones. Anyway, you wrote "and the bios dell diagnostics had a sound check so i tried that and only had sound in the left one". If you did not hear audio in the right speaker during the diagnostics then the speaker needs to be replaced.
azk_1bt it nevr said it self tht the speakers have a problem it said everything was fine
It doesn't matter what the tests says -- it just matters if you can hear the audio the tests play. If you can't hear it then there is a hardware problem.
azk_1and what abt the error its also before windows start ...black screen then it says checking media then fail whats tht abt

My less than year old Dell can't boot up because it immediately enters a repair mode that never completes.  Any suggestions before I move on to another brand?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R - automatic repair loop and disk error correction never completes

Since you still have a warranty, run an extended diagnostic on the system.  F12 a few times at powerup to get into setup -- in particular, run the extended diagnostic on the drive.  You'll likely see a fault code starting with 2000-.  Record the exact error and contact Dell with it -- they'll replace the drive under warranty.

I found an old Dell Inspiron 530a in my house, it was stored because it didn’t work anymore, so I got in the job of restoring it. I found out the problem was the PSU, so I replaced it and it worked fine for about a week but 2 days ago, the computer froze for almost 2 hours, so I turned off the CPU. After that, the computer does not want to boot, I press the power button on the front of the PC, and it remains in an orange light, and in the inside, there is also another orange light in the Motherboard. The fans start very loudly and don’t stop until I unplug the CPU or I turn it off from the power button. I have tried these “solutions” for what I think is the problem:

Removing the Motherboard battery
Removing the RAM
Disconnecting the 24-pin from the motherboard
Disconnecting everything from the PSU
Switching the jumpers near the batteries

I don’t know what the problem might be, but I am almost sure that the PSU is not, since I bought it with a higher capacity than the original PSU and I have done the tests with a jumper in the 24-pin connector
The new PSU is a  “Coolmax V-500 Series 500W 120mm ATX Power Supply” and everything else are original Inspiron 530a parts.
Thanks for any assistance you can give me

Hi I've been having this random issue which I I'm not sure where it originates from.I own a Dell Inspiron  7537 .Recently it started freezing when left inactive, and rarely while in use.I also noticed it freezes and if left alone turns itself off after activating Dell SupportAssist.Based on a previous post I tried opening LogGrabber.exe , but the same thing happened.I ran diagnostics and so forth (safe boot and windows) everything should be fine. There is also a catch. After the freeze (and then me force shutting it down through the button) the clock goes 1 hour forward, sometimes 2 hours. At the start of all of this I thought the clock messes up and puts itself 1 hour forward, but when unsuccessful mases my system freeze.Any ideas?

This Dell Inspiron 1100 was bought off Ebay. When its turned on, the Dell logo appears, says Inspiron 1100 Series, BIOS Revision A32, the bar goes across, then it says:

This computer system, #G54Y541-A95B is protected by a password authentication system.

I get 3 tries, then it shuts off.

I see those kits sold for 60 bucks but I was wondering if there was anyway in the world to get around this otherwise. I read the giant Dell BIOS password thread, but wasn't successful with anything mentioned there.

Having Same Problem With Dell Inspiron 1100

Several months ago my mom loaned a 'friend' a couple hundred bucks, he gave her his laptop to hold as collateral. Now nearly 6-7 months later, I am stuck with her problem. He skipped town, no clue how to reach him, even if that would help and she has a non-functioning laptop! I have been searching high and low. I am not comfortable enough with laptops to do the soldering thing and don't know where else to start. My service tag is about same as yours, at least last 4. If you figure it out, please share info? Sure wish she would have told me before completing this transaction.. I would of said "GET PASSWORD FIRST!" :knock:

Hey all.

I have a really annoying issue with my current Inspiron 9300 that it seems a few others are having. The socket for my power supply is loose on my system board, so the A/C power keeps going on and off, thus causing my screen to blink every time. Its only getting worse and I'm waiting for the day that I don't have the ability to charge it anymore.

So, onto my question. Is there any way that you can replace just the socket without the entire system board without getting too technical? I haven't really opened it up and investigated, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 9300 System board

In most cases all that is required is the pins on the socket to be re-soldered back on. That generally requires a full dis-assembly of the unit to gain easy access to it to repair it. If you wait too long you risk the chance of actually damaging the board and then you will require a new one for it.

Hi there! Very shiny and bran spanking new to this forum, apologies if posted in the wrong section - seems appropriate ..

Dell Inspiron Mini 1011
Windows XP

Anywho, I've recently been experiencing slowness on my netbook so decided to do a system restore. I honestly thought it would be as easy as doing it on my Packard Bell (desktop machine) but it isn't! I really don't want to feel like I'm bugging everyone with what could be such a simple problem but believe me it isn't! I googled the hell out of this all I got was either that Dell Inspiron doesn't have a System Restore (BS in my opinion), or you have to press CTRL + F11 when the Dell Logo appears on the start up screen or it's F8 (for Vista only I think).

So OK, I've tried all of the above, including the two commands displayed on the loading screen (F2 Setup, F12 System Boot (i think something or other :| ) and so far what I got is nil! What do I do!? This drives me insane! And the fact that the netbook is already slow at start ups doesn't help, yes I've disables all of the unneeded start up programs but it doesn't help.

Bottom line is how do I perform a complete System Restore on my Dell Inspiron Mini 10(11)

I've backed up my files (My Docs, Desktop and Favourites) on to an external hard drive!

Also when the loading screen displays the F12 & F2 button is it necessary for me to press the Fn button to get the F keys working (F12 + F2)?

Good day everyone. I am fairly new to this website, but after searching for similar problems like mine, I ran across this.

I recently took the components of my Dell Inspiron 620 and moved it into a Raidmax Super Viper. It came with a 500 watt power supply and after getting it all hooked up and powered up, it gives me a system fan error. The code specifically is 2000-0511. I am wondering if this is being caused by the system fan functioning differently with the added power (going from a 300 watt to a 500 watt) and the motherboard isn't reading it correctly. All the fans work and my computer functions properly, aside from the error message that I can bypass. So I was wondering if I would need to change my motherboard and if I should stop using my desktop until then.

Answer:Solved: Dell Inspiron 620 System Fan Error

It shouldn't be the power supply, the added power is not a problem or something the system is even aware off.

Did you move the Dell case fan from the Dell case to this new case? The Dell motherboard is specifically setup to use & monitor that rear case fan.

I installed a graphics card (GTX 960) and the card gets to 80C and starts to throttle its clock speeds.
Currently, the case has got the stock exhaust fan + the PSU fan (which I had upgraded).
I would like to install an intake fan, to lower the temperature of my GPU and hard disk.
As such, I would like to ask the community here, is that possible?
If so, how do I go about doing it?

My Inspiron laptop has been working fine for me for the past year or so, I decided to back up my files on a Lacie external hard drive and sought after a way to reformat without using the vista cd (b/c dell never sent me a copy from the factory).

In the Recovery Drive (D i found the option PCRESTORE under Tools folder. The option was everything I needed but when I ran it i would get an Error message without text. This message pops up after only a second of the wipeout process. I cannot find the file pcrestore anyone on the net and I'm not knowledgeable enough about computers to know wtf it's doing that.

Any input on how to just reformat my laptop w/o cd or to get prestore back operational would be great! Thanks ahead of time!

That restore has to be run from the pre bios, use F8 after restart at the Dell logo screen to use PC restore.

Using any other method to install XP or Vista will break the PC restore feature on a Dell.

Hello,
I have recently upgraded to windows 10 and everything seems file except one problem I am facing which is the wifi card connectivity issues. My connection to router drops very frequently, curently the generic driver which windows think is appropriate is installed. I wanted to undate that with Dell's driver which I can't find on driver download section. 64 bit WiFi driver is NOT there. 32 Bit driver is but that won't install on my machine.
Can someone from Dell help? either to give me the link for correct driver download or confirm driver is not available in which case I would need to downgrade to windwos 8 as the system is unusable in its current state.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 SE - Windows 10 64 Bit WiFi Driver not available on Dell Site

Hello,
On the Drivers & Download pages for the Inspiron 15R 7520 there are only 64-bit options for Windows, whether 8.0,8.1, or 10.   So those drivers are the ones for the 64-bit version of Windows 10, as long as you filter the operating system option to Windows 10 64-bit.
The file name may state "Win32" but if you click on the "View Details" link, and then check "Supported Operating Systems" near the bottom of the page you'll find that the driver supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
You don't mention which wireless card you have in that system so I can't link directly to the specific driver.  Which card do you have and what error are you getting when trying to install the drvier?
I would also recommend updating the firmware on your router.  Many routers need an update to be able to handle Windows 10 specific drivers and cards reliably.   What router brand and model are you connecting to?  And do you have problems with all routers or just this one.
Lastly, here is a link to the Dell Networking & Wireless Support Center.  You will find a few support articles in there that may be of help to you.
Let me know which card you have and when the last time you updated your router and, if you can't get the connection to work, I'll see what else I can suggest to help you.

I have just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 15.6" Laptop
...and I want to use my Dell u2412M monitor, to extend the screens for my workspace ( or simply use the bigger monitor screen).
To achieve this I am using an HDMI cable with an HDMI to DVI adaptor to plug the cable into the Dell monitor.
I've tested the cable on my old Sony laptop using HDMI to DVI and it recognises the monitor and works (my other laptop was running Windows 7).
However the new laptop won't recognise or see the monitor at all when I plug in the HDMI cable?
I have checked under "manage my devices" and the graphics card driver seems up to date on the laptop.
Is there something I need to download to make the monitor work please as I assumed it would plug and play.
Many thanks!!!

This laptop had some user profile problems. Now sorted, but no wireless icon and no connection. I have uninstalled the WLAN driver, then downloaded the latest one from Dell. In DevMan, WLAN adaptor shows as working normally. In Network and Sharing Centre, Wireless Network Connection shows as Disabled. I right click and choose Enable - a panel pops up, says enabling then Enabled, but Wireless Network Connection still shows Disabled. Hello. I am new to this forum and desparately need some kind people to please help before I throw the computer in front of a train.
I have Dell Inspiron 2600 (old) laptop running Windows XP Home. Too much software was loaded onto the computer and it now has "zero" memory. i have tried everything to fix the problem, to no avail. "Add and Remove Programs" runs so slowly (if at all) that I cannot get the programs off. I managed to pull data off that I really need and wanted to simply restore the computer to factory settings. Dell sent me a CD for reinstallation windows and gave me some intructions (if you can call them that). I have tried several times to run the CD. It gives me two options: 1) updating the system or 2) installing. It tells me that reinstalling will cause the loss of data and programs (which is what I want). Each time I run it, however, it tells me that I don't have enough SPACE to do it! How, PLEASE, can I get this computer back to factory settings and take off all of the junk. I only use the laptop online when my PC is down and I've run several virus checks, so it isn't that - it's just full.
Is there a way from the c:\ prompt to reset the computer? Is there any other way? I am not a computer wiz but I can follow directions.
I'm praying that some kind soul will take pity on me and I thank you in advance for ANY help you can give me.
Thank you.

Answer:Dell Inspiron Mini 9 No operating system found?

Hi Capi580,

It sounds as if you're experiencing hard drive failure. You can try to re-seat the drive, but the fact that the BIOS can see the drive but sees zero data/space leads me to believe the drive is dead. Is the computer still under warranty? Dell is pretty good about sending out replacement parts.

You can check the warranty status of your net book at support.dell.com. In the upper right hand corner, there's a drop down menu that says warranty information > warranty status.

Dell's technical support number is 1-877-293-1197. Have your express service code from the bottom of the net book ready. you're going to speak to a tech who's going to walk you through a few trouble shooting steps. after he determines your HD is bad, they'll usually send you out a replacement drive, assuming the computer is under warranty.

FYI, PXE is for booting from the network. The computer is only trying that since it can't read the HD.

With Win10, I have created a System Repair disk for my laptop and plan to also use the Win10 option to create a full system backup.
Question: Will this be enough to fully re-image my laptop if that is a catastrophic HD failure?
On a Win7 Dell laptop,  Dell also provided a System Backup/Recovery capability but I can not find that on my Win10 system?...has it been discontinued or do I now have to order it?
Any advice and guidance would be great.

Answer:Win10 Dell Inspiron System Backup/Recovery

With a Win 10 system, if the system is capable, you can reset your install to a new hard drive and have a Factory install.  I may keep some of your settings if you choose but it will basically be as it came from the factory.  By capable, I mean one set up to allow for the OEM utilities in the recovery partition being able to be copied over to the Recovery drive along with the Win 10 image.
If you want something to recover to your current install you will need an image.  I use the one in Windows but it is limited in some aspect.  Others suggest using a third party imaging software.
I don't think the Dell backup software is available on the Win 10 systems..

Dell System Detect: Common Questions
For more information about the recent issue reported related to Dell System Detect (DSD), refer below.

November 23, 2015
Description: Dell System Detect application and its DSDTestProvider root certificate had similar characteristics to eDellRoot certificate that was installed on Dell PC's. With Dell System Detect (DSD), the customer downloads the software proactively to interact with the Dell Support website so we can provide a better and more personalized support experience. The support certificate in question was designed to make it faster and easier for our customers to get support. The certificate unintentionally introduced a security vulnerability.
The application was removed from the Dell Support site immediately and a replacement application without the certificate is now available. We are proactively pushing a software update to address the issue and have provided instructions to remove this certificate.
Impact: The impact is limited to customers who used the "detect product" functionality on our support site between Oct. 20 and Nov. 24, 2015.

While analyzing my system to find the latest updates, from Dell website, I was recommended to install Dell Inspiron 3537 System BIOS.  It was a manual installation and when I tried installing, the first message was whether I would want to downgrade my firmware!  So I am confused.  The recommended upgrade will downgrade my firmware??  Is it OK?  Should I go ahead with this upgrade?  Appreciate your suggestions/feedback.

Answer:Updating Dell Inspiron 3537 System BIOS

SANGEETHVS,
What is the version of the bios you have installed? If you have the latest one installed there is no need to install it again. Also, is your computer experiencing issues?

I began this project merely trying to start this machine, I found I could not get past the user password on this counterfeit installation. I decided to install a legitimate version of xp. I found that the cd disk drive in the machine did not work. I plugged in an external cd drive and found that the machine did not read the drive properly. I tried an external floppy drive and it seems to register. I was wondering if there were a way to access the hard drive with a startup disk on the floppy drive and somehow format c drive so I could later reboot xp pro from a disk. (skipping the previous user password) I tried to use administrator to change password but failed. I attempted to access the bios but also failed. Instead of waiting for another external cd rom drive to get the ball rolling, I was wondering if this could be done by floppy drive.

It may not be completely inserted or may have some other problem. Please read and complete the following steps in order:1. Press the device completely and firmly into the bay.2. Press the power button to retry detecting the device.Ive tried everything to no joy, and she has some important docs that she needs to access on the laptop.....any urgent help would be most appreciated!!!!

It sounds like either the battery or the drive (floppy or CD-ROM) is not seated correctly. Try removing each of them and inserting them again.

Hi, I can't seem to get anything higher than 1920x1080 in the list of available resolution options when I connect my Dell U2713HM monitor to my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. I've run this monitor at 2560x1440 on another laptop over HDMI in the past but that was with Windows 8. The Intel HD Graphics 530 Control Panel doesn't offer any resolutions above 1920x1080 for the external monitor and adding custom resolutions results in the error "the custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". I'm using the same high speed HDMI cable that worked at 2560x1440 with this monitor on my previous laptop. I'm fully up to date on all of the drivers for the laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure what else to try. Could this be a Windows 10 issue? Should I try the standard Intel HD Graphics 530 drivers from the Intel website?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 7559 connected to Dell U2713HM monitor over HDMI can't do 2560x1440 resolution in Windows 10

Hi JonoBloo,
The hardware on the system supports the 2560x1440. It should be a software issue. I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the video card driver from Dell website as these drivers are tested on the Dell system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the video card.

Press the Windows key and Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
Select the Display adapters listed and right click on it.
Now select properties.
In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Then reinstall the Intel video card driver for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the video card drivers from Video section onto the system and install it.

Please let me know if this helps.

Hello,

I have a problem with my new laptop and it happens only sometimes. It is around 1 month old and it had this problem from the beginning . The laptop is a DELL INSPIRON 3552
1. DELL LOGO appears
2. Screen backlight is ok
3. Windows won't start ( window's logo doesn't appear ) and if i plug an external mouse the cursor is on the black screen.
If I shut down the laptop from the power button and the start it again it works. It's very random. Once I had to restart the laptop for 3 times before the windows started.
Any ideas ?

Answer:DELL Inspiron Windows screen black after DELL logo

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
As we understand that the system doesnt not boot and just goes up to the Dell logo and after multiple restarts the system works fine.
In that case ,Can you boot the system into " Safe mode " and check if the same happens..You can also perform a system restore and also check for updates pending .
Thanks

Hi,
My dell inspiron 14z 5423 no longer have sound from both the speakers and the earphone jack.
This happened after I replaced the Battery and also the hard disk from 500gb to 1TB and upgraded to windows 10.
Before this, I was using Windows 8.1 and everything was working well. I have returned it back to windows 8.1 but the no audio problem still persist.
Also, my speaker symbol on the task bar shows a "cross" sign with "no audio output installed" displaying when I hover on the speaker icon.
Please I need help. have tried all options i can think of including driver updates.
One more thing, the sound driver are not showing up on the device manager window where other drivers are displayed.

Thanks

Answer:No Sound From Speaker & Headphone Jack On my Dell Inspiron 14z 5423 After Chnaging BAttery and Hard Disk

pizzz4allthe sound driver are not showing up on the device manager window where other drivers are displayed.
Hello. Download this Win8.1 IDT audio driver for the Inspiron 14z 5423. There are two versions there -- get the one that says "File Format Hard Drive". Follow the installation instructions and see if the driver shows up in Device Manager.
If it doesn't, perform the PSA or ePSA sound test. If no sound during the test then there has been hardware failure. Could have happened during parts replacement.

Quite suddenly I'm getting a frequent popup in a small window that says "Dell Update, 1 update is ready to install. Dell Inspiron 2350 System BIOS" The options are "Install now" and "Remind me later". Does this look legitimate? If so, is it something I want to do? My computer is almost 4 years old and it's running fine. I hate to risk breaking something. I'm running the latest Windows 10 Creators Update.

Answer:Popup for Dell Inspiron 2350 System Bios Update

Thank you for your message. We see that the last Bios update for this model was released in July 2015 & the version is A09.Restart the computer & tap F2 to get into Bios & check the version installed. If you have A09 you have the latest version.Considering the system age & the system model, we do not recommend a Bios update if everything is working fine. Installing a wrong Bios update or incorrect install may brick the motherboard.

Hi

I have re-installed the operating system on my Inspiron 1545 a few times now with varying degrees of success.  I used the operating system disc and the drivers and utilities disc which came with the inspiron when I bought it several years ago.  My problems relate to the utilities disc. I am uncertain as to whether I need to reinstall the drivers etc which are on the disc and also as to whether I need to do this in any particular order.  I want to keep Windows 7 also,  as installing later versions seems to create problems.  Problems also arise when I access drivers and downloads on the drivers and downsloads section of the Dell site,  as those on the site are newer than my laptop and compatibility issues seem to occur because of that.  I don't want to use the inspiron for anything other than occasional internet searching etc as I have a newer laptop.

Can anyone help?

So my dell inspiron laptop has been running a little bit slow lately apposed to it's normal fast a quick loading rate. I decided something had gone wrong so asked the computer to check the system for me. My fear had become reality.
The pre-boot assessment came up with the error code:
2000-0146
I have researched this and apparently, if you have this error your Hard-drive is Kaput. But it still runs, just a little slower. As it still works OK, i want to avoid replacing the hard-drive as the internet advises, and just to maybe re-install windows or whatever simple process needs doing to fix this.
So how can i fix this?? Kind of desperate here, i don't want the hard-drive getting worse and then really does go bye bye.

Thanks, Mastershape1995

I have a Dell Inspiron that won't start. It says it is missing its operating system.

Using the Windows 7 DVD that came with the machine I went through the repair Windows procedure 3 times. The first time it searched for restore points of which there are none because the machine has Rollback Rx installed instead. It then restarted with no change. I went through the same process but this time it said it had repaired Windows however; restarting gave me the same missing OS message. On the 3rd attempt it displayed the restored OS as being on D:\. I ran the diagnostic tool and it said no errors were found. Restarting gave the same error.

How can I get the machine to boot from D:\ or move the OS back to C:\ please?

Answer:Dell Inspiron won't start. Missing operating system error

How did that happened? Did you format your hard drive or something? How many drives do you have maybe its installed on another one.

If all else fails the only thing left to do is to do a system recovery or factory restore, if you are looking for a clean start then follow this guide: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
