Why doesn't Windows Live Photo Gallery Save my Thumbnails! It Drives me crazy!!!?

Question: Why doesn't Windows Live Photo Gallery Save my Thumbnails! It Drives me crazy!!!?

I have rebuilt my windows live photo gallery multiple times. Following these instructions:

Windows Live Photo Gallery freezes or does not start

Why do my thumbnails go away!!! I didn't use CCleaner or anything that would delete temporary files, to my knowledge. Very frustrating... This has been an ongoing problem for years.

I am on Windows 7, but also happened to me on Vista.

Thanks for you help!

Preferred Solution: Why doesn't Windows Live Photo Gallery Save my Thumbnails! It Drives me crazy!!!?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I print with Windows Live Photo Gallery nothing happens. I have no printing problems with any other software. In an attempt to resolve this issue I have done the following:
o Upgraded to Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011
Build 15.4.3502.922
o Ran System File Checker with no problems encountered
o Ran Event Viewer. No errors relative to this problem
o Stopped and restarted the Print Spooler service
All suggestions will be appreciated

Answer:Windows Live Photo Gallery Doesn't Print

I uninstalled and reinstalled the HP print driver and now I can print from Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011. I don't know why this worked since all other applications had no problem printing and I could find no errors relating to the printer or the driver, but I have worked with computers for a long time and have experienced stranger things. Thanks for your time.

Hi, I am runnning Vista Home on my system. On C drive is Windows Photo Gallery and when I downloaded W Live Mail, Live Photo Gallery came along as well onto C drive. Prior to this, as a back-up I had installed Picasa on drive H. So, in effect I have three lots of photos on my system. I was wanting to get rid of W Photo Gallery but when I tried deleting just one photo, it also deleted the same photo in Live Gallery and Picasa. How can I keep W Live Gallery and Picasa but delete W Photo Gallery. Any help / assistance appreciated. Peter

Answer:Windows Photo Gallery & Live Photo Gallery problem

You don't have three lots of photos, only links to the originals, which I'm guessing are in "My Pictures"

Hi. All thumbnails for pics on windows folders have recently disappeared. I have double checked all folder and performance settings and tried repairing Windows photo gallery, deleting thumbnails cache, restoring pc to previous state, changing file associations etc etc. No joy.

When I open the pictures folder, thumbnails appear briefly and then quickly revert to icons. "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is definitely unchecked.

I have successfully installed another picture browser which works fine when I work through it directly, unfortunately I still need thumbnails on the standard windows folders for selecting & uploading pics online, which is an important part of my business.

Anyone any suggestions? I have already tried all the suggestions for similar problems I have found on the forums but nothing so far has made any difference.

When I try to order prints online from Live Photo Gallery (Print menu, Order Prints) it says " No printing companies found in your area". This happens on two Windows 7 systems. It works correctly on a Vista machine. Any ideas how to fix it?

Answer:Live Photo Gallery - order prints doesn't work

Update:
I booted into Vista on the same machine where the "Order Prints" works correctly. I exported the registry keys associated with the logged in user. I edited the user string to correspond with the Windows 7 user in the .reg file and imported the keys into the Windows 7 registry. When I try to order prints using Live Photo Gallery the list of providers is available and it works as it should. As soon as I close the wizard the registry keys are deleted and it no longer works. I can merge the keys again and it will work again. Any ideas why it can't populate the provider list on it's own and why it deletes the keys upon exiting the wizard?

Answer:Photo Gallery vs. Windows Live Photo Gallery?

Hi TheGreatGazoo,

Welcome to the forum.

It really just depends on what features are more useful to you. It seems that Windows Live Photo Gallery will work seamlessly with Live Spaces.

You can compare the features from the two at these links to see which one you like better.

Windows Photo Gallery:

Windows Live Photo Gallery:

I've got myself a real pickle. First of all, does this look like the correct location [thread] for the Pictures Files;

The problem I have, is that none of my Pictures Files will open in Windows Live Photo Gallery, or even Windows Photo Gallery for that matter, because, as I am told by these windows, 'a' Folder is hidden. Here's the info I get;

How the heck do I get myself out of this mess? All my Picture Files are there, it's just that I cannot access WL Photo Gallery, to do any editing etc.

I also suspect that something isn't quite right with my Folder set-up here;

Any advice appreciated to assist me to clean-up my act

HI folks

How r ya? Ok so i have Windows Photo Gallery and Office 2010 (including MS Picture Manager 2010) installed in my laptop. Office 2010 has new feature to save documents directly as pdf format. Even Microsoft also introduced pdf Add-on for Office 2007 a while ago (probably for Offfice 2003 as well, not sure).

I completely understand that the purpose of Windows Photo Gallery, MS Office Picture Manager 2010 and Paint is to deal with pictures.

Now think this way that how easy or comfortable it would be for the people who wants to operate Scanner function of the printer without manufacturer's heavy user interface/software.

Does anyone knows if Microsoft has introduced/preparing to introduce any Add-on to save as pdf for Windows Photo Gallery, MS Office 2010 and Paint?

P.S.
I dont want to use external pdf creater software available under GPL, Unless the software don't have any interface and only gives an option to save file as pdf at the time of saving it.

If above-mentioned solution is available then;
It would be great if anyone can guide me through the process of extending add-on for pdf from Office 2010 to Windows Photo Gallery, MS Office Picture Manager 2010 and Paint!

Answer:Windows Photo Gallery (Add-on save as pdf)

Hi,

Do have "Adobe print to pdf" installed on your machine? If so just print directly to that & it will create the pdf file for you!

I have Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop. Fairly new to computers, but in the last 2 years I have loaded photos from a digital camera, and also from a scanner. I have successfully emailed some of them. Yesterday, when trying to get the full knowledge about how to use the Photo Gallery, I realised that I have Windows Photo Gallery, and also Windows Live Photo Gallery installed. It seems that both can be used without any problem. However, when I have been in 'Live Gallery' a message will appear that '.... Live Gallery has stopped working.' followed by a prompt- should I report this to help with a repair, which I always do;then another prompt to close the programme. Next time I use Live Gallery everything is fine, then eventually the same prompts again appear.
Am I doing something incorrectly ? From what I have gathered trawling around here, the Live Gallery has extra features not found in Photo Gallery.
Thanks for any forthcoming simple guidance and explanations.

Answer:Windows Photo Gallery & Windows Live Photo Gallery.

Since Windows Live is an internet connected program, I'm wondering if you're just getting the same error message I get several times a day with Internet Explorer. Lately, IE has been recovering on it's own rather than saying it has to shut down.
I assume you have SP2 installed since that is required.

When editing a picture in Windows live photo gallery the picture disappears off the computer when closing the application but the file name seems to be retained because if you try to put another pic with the same file name in the folder it says that file name already exists, I have been using Windows live photo gallery regularly with no problems for ages and have tried to sort this out myself but have run out of ideas, I also noticed when clicking on the libraries icon in the task bar the pictures folder had myteriously moved into the video library as a sub folder, I did a restore back to when I knew everything was OK but this did not rectify the problem.

Do you by chance use Mcafee anti-virus? If you do try turning off Real Time Scanning.
Windows 7 Library folders are not being displayed
EnvironmentAffected Suites:
Total Protection 2011
Internet Security Suite 2011
AntiVirus Plus 2011

Affected Products:
VirusScan

Affected Operating Systems:
Windows 7

NOTE: If you are unsure what version of the McAfee Security software you have installed, please see article TS101107.
SummaryWindows 7 contains a new feature concept called the Library, which allows you to group similar types of documents and media from several physical folders into one virtual Library.

When a new user is created, during or after the computer setup, the user?s unique Library is created with four default Libraries:
Documents
Movies
Music
Pictures
When you open Windows Explorer, or save a file, that file's attributes could be changed to hidden.
ProblemFunctions in the 2011 McAfee VirusScan could cause these four default Libraries to be hidden, making it difficult to find files collected into these Libraries. The Libraries do exist, but they have a ?hidden? attribute which prevents them from being displayed in Windows Explorer.

SolutionMcAfee will release an update to VirusScan which will change the way these file attributes are set and eliminate this issue.

WorkaroundUntil the planned update is released, use the following procedure to work around this issue.

I was importing photos from my IPAD into windows live photo gallery. I have windows 7 operating system. There were 2 issues that arised. The first one was that the dates on the folder were in the american format, which is very confusing when you work purley off dates. If you click on the actual photo it will give you the australian format of the date, but the folder it is in has the american date format. I hope someone can help me with this issue. The second issue that arised was that when I went to import photos again into windows live photo gallery it reimported a group of photos that had already been imported. So I thought that was strange so I deleted the copies and clicked import all new photos and it did it again. I have 300 photos on the ipad and these 26 photos keep reimporting. I hope someone can help me thank you very much.

I really don't know what happened. I went to access Windows Live Photo Gallery (WLPG) and got the message that it has stopped working. I ran sfc \scannow and it states that corrupt files were found and not all were able to be fixed, but I don't know how to open that log to see what it says.

I tried doing a System Restore back to the earliest date I had and that didn't work.

Hi there,

I'm having a issue with Windows Live Photo Gallery.
When I boot the program it immediatly comes up with a "Windows Live Photo Gallery Repair has stopped working", shortly afterwards that message dissapears and the program can be used normally.

After I close the program, the message "Windows Live Photo Gallery has stopped working" pops up , and keeps popping up very frequently for about 10-30 minutes after closing the program.

I already tried reinstalling the program completely but to no avail, the same issue repeats itself.

Are there any suggestions how to solve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Windows Live Photo Gallery

gameleon, I am having the same problem as you. I am surprised no one has answered you query. However, yesterday when 'exploring' the photo gallery on Vista, I began to realise that the Photo Gallery, and the 'Live Photo Gallery' are 2 different things. I will be doing a bit more digging here on this forum to see what else I can find out. As far as I can make out both versions can be used by me, but after going into Live Gallery, and looking at a photo, similar messages as to what you received pop up, ' has stopped working' 'do you want to send information for repair'., etc, etc.

I don't use Windows Live PG, and now I see why. The process is different than any editing program I've ever seen, and completely unfriendly as far as I can see.
From Help:
"To save the changes to your photo, click Back to gallery."
This seems to save a new file with the same name, and destroys the original.
You can fix that with File/Revert.
You can also rt-click the edited photo and "Open With" your favorite editor and save in the usual manner.
Even better, get Picasa which makes this process much simpler and also auto-saves a copy of the original.

When i copy my photos from my SD card onto my laptop and then edit them using Windows 7 live photo gallery, the photos saves all my edits and then disappears from the folder. This is so annoying and was wondering whether anyone has come across this issue? Im using a Lenovo G570 laptop with I5 2nd generation processor with 6GB DDR3 ram. My question is where did all my photos go after editing them? and why did it happen?
Thanks

Answer:Windows Live photo Gallery

Are they not just "hidden"? 1. Click the 'Start Orb' > Click 'Computer'
2. Click 'Organize' > Select 'Folder and Search Options'
3. Select the 'View' tab
4. Click 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' > Click Apply then OK
Now that you can see hidden files and folders, you need to search for your pictures.

I could do all the importing to the PC from the camera with Bridge.I might also be able to do it with Lightroom, have never looked to see if it can do exactly what I want, happy to continue using Bridge.I can use Lightroom for all the editingIt's the tagging I really liked in WLPG, and the way I could use it to search for untagged photos, and how it handled the hierarchy of tags I have. The native Photos app doesn't deal with tagging, indeed it doesn't display existing tags, plus it's IMHO clumsy in comparison maybe because it's intended to work on touch-screens as well.

This is a screen-shot taken after selecting to open a Jpeg., Jpg., etc file using Windows Live Photo Gallery. It can take up to 65 seconds to load, and to produce the editing etc page, I need to select 'Fix' from the top of screen. Sometimes it opens, sometimes not.......very frustrating.
Twice, I have tried uninstalling, then reinstalling Windows Live Photo Gallery, but it appears to have made no difference whatsoever. I've also tried to carry out a repair from Programs and Features in Control Panel, found in Windows Live Essentials, but again this has proved worthless.

Is this a corrupted program, or is this a nagging bug in it? If it is a bug, then how do I report this annoying 'feature' to Microsoft for attention?

My question here is so darn elementary that it 'says something' about ME, the simple-minded user, OR about the software!

I am a new user of Windows Live Photo Gallery. I am trying to learn it so I can help my good friend who is dependent on it.

It seems like a simple proposition to add captions to pictures. I do it regularly in MY preferred photo gallery, which is SmugMug. I also find it easy to caption pictures in the Kodak Gallery, in the Shutterfly Gallery, and in Picasa. BUT, in Windows Live Photo Gallery, it is a problem. Finding the place in the program for entering captions is easy as pie. Only problem is, the caption data so entered does NOT show up when the pics are displayed!

Can someone tell me what, where, and how to make my captions appear?

You need to change your display view to "Thumbnails with Captions".

If the captions still do not update, then it maybe that the files are marked Read Only.

My friends were using WL Photo Gallery 2008, which worked fine. When they got updated to 2009, though, Photo Gallery stopped working. By "stopped working" I mean "won't open". You click it's icon but nothing opens.
I read some stuff about database corruption and tried M$'s fix, but it didn't help.
I thought their computer might be messed up in other ways, so I did a clean install of XP SP3 on their computer, installed the latest version of WL Essentials, - and had the same problem. The other apps in Essentials that I installed work fine (like WL Mail & Messenger).
If I go into task manager/processes, then try to launch WL Photo Gallery, I can see the "Windows Live Photo Gallery" process pop up for a split second then instantly disappear.
You can double click a picture and it seems to open in WL Photo Gallery previewer fine. But if you click the "Go to gallery" button to view all pictures, the preview window closes but the main app doesn't open.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ted, I am also having problems with Windows Live Photo Gallery. Until recently, all Windows Live features worked, however, Windows Live Photo Gallery opens up and then displays this error message;

Photo Gallery can't start. You may not have enough space on your hard disk or critical files may be missing from Windows.

I have tried to reinstall, but the installer says it is already installed... I have tried to delete the Live Features and reinstall but, still no luck. I did actually get some features to uninstall and they reinstalled correctly. Just to let you know, I have used the built in program uninstaller, Revo Uninstaller, Advanced System Care and Glary Utilities. If I fond a solution to my problem, it may be of help to you as well. I will continue looking and also, hopefully, someone with more expertise than me can help us both out of a jam.

2. Not sure it matters or not but in the control panel->install/uninstall program, there is no Photo Gallery, only Windows Essentials 2012 and Windows SQL. The files are located in the ProgramFiles (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery. There's an exe there and it does no good to click on it.

I have downloaded Photo Gallery and included all my photo folders. There are some folders I wish to remove but not delete. The help states that if I right click a folder I should then click "Remove from the Gallery". The problem is that option does not appear in the menu, so how do I remove folders from the Gallery without deleting the folder?

Any help please.

Answer:Windows Live Photo Gallery Problem

I'm sorry I have just answered my own question. I now see that I can only remove the main folder and not the sub-folders. That is a pity because all of my dozens of folders are included in one main folder.

I am trying to organise my pictures on Windows Live Photo Gallery.
The issue I have is that my photos have a small format.
I tried to resize the pictures using the resize command in the edit tab.  However, I was unable to change the size of the picture.
Is there another way to change the size of my picture?

I have windows 7. In windows live photo gallery, wishing to burn a photo to a DVD, I insert a DVD recordable disc (already with photos on from a previous computer XP),then I click on "burn a DVD" and a window states "the disc in your dvd burner is not a recordable dvd, please insert a recordable or rewriteable dvd" How do I overcome this problem, I only have "basic" computer knowledge so your answer needs to be fully explained. Thanking you, Bill & Ben.

Answer:Windows 7 Live Photo Gallery, burning a DVD.

You need to use a blank DVD, The one you are trying to use has been "Finalised" so you cannot write to it.You can transfer the pictures from the finalised DVD to the new one together with any new images.

I am running Windows XP SP3, and suddenly I can no longer open my "Windows Live Photo Gallery". I have stored many pictures in there but, when I click to open, nothing happens. I ran a system scan using Malwarebytes, SUPERAntiSpyware, and ALWL, thinking that I may have a bug. I also noticed that my computer is slower than usual, with pages sometimes loading in pieces. I have a slight problem with Windows Live Photo Gallery. I use CorelDraw/Paint to create images and edit photos for the web. I use the Firefox browser for viewing. I have no problem with these two applications - the images appear identical. But when viewed in Windows Live Photo Gallery, the images are noticeably darker. Why the difference and how do I set Windows Live Photo Gallery so it views the same?

I recently just upgraded my laptop and I am so upset to see that Windows 10 does not have the Windows Photo Viewer or the Windows Live Photo Gallery- these two programs offer ways of printing photos (such as printing 2 4x6 or 5x7 pics on one page) and simple/quick one click enhancement features that I cannot find anywhere else! The Microsoft photo viewer that came with the PC is useless - it has no options or features! Help please or suggestions!!!!

Answer:Any way to get the Windows Photo Viewer & Windows Live Photo Gallery?

Yeah the default app isn't great. The old photo viewer can be enabled if you did an upgrade from 7 I believe. I think those with a clean install of 10 are bang out of luck though. I'm sure Brink posted a tutorial on how to do it but I'll need to dig around

I tried to copy some recent photos onto my USB memory stick and I couldn't do it.
I was able to copy all of the photos using the Kodak program with no problems. I have Windows Photo Gallery installed with Vista on my laptop. The two programs appear to be identical and I can't copy the photos from there either!!
Can anyone suggest how I can copy photos to a USB stick from WLPG? Thanks.

Any idea how to fix.

I've restarted program, restarted PC. Did some command promt thing that another site told me from googling

Answer:Windows Live photo Gallery cant play slideshow

If you managed to get rid of Live Movie Maker - that is what causes the problem.

This sounds strange, but I just checked with Full Install of MS Live essentials, Photo Gallery launches MovieMaker.exe to play slideshow. I guess due to various slideshow effects.

That is likely the reason why Photo Gallery and Movie Maker are paired in one install option

I've only started using the tag function in the Photo Gallery today and I've made some mistakes while doing it. There is no way to remove the tag suggestions in the gallery itself, but I followed a 'work around' that requires editing the registry. This worked for some tags, but I still see some tag suggestions that was not present in the registry.

Any idea how to remove those?

The guide I followed can be found here.

Example of what I I'm talking about is:
(Click the picture for a bigger view)
You see "grenade"...tagging for game photos , anyways I mistakenly typed "gre" in the Photo Gallery and cannot find a way to remove it, because it's not in the registry .

More a quirk than a real problem. I am running Vista HP 32 bit. I added WLPG from the MS Live Essentials optional update... just WLPG, nothing else. It works great and I like the program. If anyone is using WLPG it would be good if you could confirm this... and even if your using it on W7 perhaps. One strange problem... I search for a picture by using Vistas search/run box (the orb) and then I left click the picture file. What happens is that it appears to open WLPG for about half a second (I see the WLPG Loading screen) and then immediately get the Windows "Failure" sound and I am returned to the desktop.Any pictures opens normally from the picture folder or from WLPG.Those same pictures open if I repeat the first step but right click and choose "open", it then opening with WLPG as normal. However using the searchbox is a valid route and it should work. I just suspect this is a peculiarity of the program when added to Vista. The Vista install is fully updated ,SP1 and SP2 and has not been tweaked with reg cleaners etc.

I have photo gallery installed with my windows 10, but according to my reserarch, there is also Windows Live Photo Gallery, which has more features.

All I can find is windows live essentials, but when i look at the programs it will install this is not shown...

Has MS renamed Windows Live Photo Gallery and just called it Photo gallery ?
Really confused

Have a zillion photos to tag and if I use an MS product it will be tagged within the photo unlike Picasa so will be better for my purposes, unless there is an alternative which adopts the MS tagging

Thanks

Photo Gallery is Windows Live Photo Gallery, I think MS is just trying to lose the 'Live' moniker.

Hi,
I currently use Windows Live Photo gallery to edit and organise my photos. Its worked fine until recently.. after editing a photo yesterday I clicked on the arrow button to move onto the next image and as usual a dialogue box popped up telling me it was saving the changes made to the photo and I could click to revert to the original at any time. I moved onto the next image but realised that I'd forgotten to do something and clicked to go back, but the image had gone. I've searched through all my photos and looked in my recyle bin, but the image is nowhere to be found. I may be missing something obvious of course, but I'm scratching my head to know what has happened. Can anyone please help? I think I've lost about a dozen images now...:(
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Images disappearing from Windows Live Photo Gallery

It sounds as if Live Phot Gallery has either changed the name of the picture or changed the extension. When you did a search for it did you specify just the name or the name and the extension? Try searching the complete hard drive for the file name first then by extension but specifying only for with yesterday's date.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit and have a folder with over 600 small photos in. When I open the folder to view these then Select All the Print Option appears. I then choose Contact Print to get 35 images to 1 x A4 card, but when I do this the print preview shows most of the photos turn sideways 90 degrees to the right! If I print then this is how they are printed. This is of no use especially as they are all head and shoulder shots. I use an Epson SX 400 printer and I have tried all the Options within that but cannot solve this problem. It does not happen in other folders, just in one or two, but I don't think the number of photos are a problem as it happens with a folder that contains just 12 images. Can anyone please help with this because I have tried everything, it is so frustrating and I really need to print out these photos urgently. Many thanks in advance.

This is only occurring in Windows Live Photo Gallery and Adobe Elements 10 and strangely enough only when the photos are 'opened' in other words the thumnails are ok.
The fault does not occur in other packages like Paint, Quicktime, Windows Live Movie Maker, Photomatix and others.
The photos are also ok when used as Desktop Background.

Had a bad trojan virus on my PC running Vista32 as evidenced by not being able to view, save or download files in yahoo mail. Found a great website with step by step instructions for the exact problem and downloaded all sorts of software programs (Hitmanpro, AVG, Malwarebytes, etc) to eradicate it, and it started working again. But, now I have new (or perhaps leftover) issues remaining. Where to start?...

Because of the virus, I moved my entire Pictures folder to an external hard drive. After the fact, realized I should not have moved the shell folder and moved it back. The following problem seemed to start after that.

1) When I scan something and give it a name and try to save it in Window Photo Gallery (always worked before), I get an error message dialog box with heading "Importing Pictures and Videos". Message states: The following error occurred while importing Image.jpg: The system cannot find the specific file. What do you want to do? Try again; Skip this file; Skip all files with errors.

A possibly related issue:

2) When I click on Start, and the split box shows up, the one on the right that starts a top down list with my user name, Documents, Pictures, Music Games (not sure what these quick links are called), nothing happens when I click on Pictures. When I view properties, it is empty. So, not sure how to re-establish that link.

3) I am again unable to view, save or download attachments in Yahoo mail. It simply says file cannot be downloaded. I can us... Read more

When I try to scan a document, I am prompted to name the file and get the following error, which prevents me from saving the file:The following error occurred while importing image.jpg: The system cannot find the file specified. Try again. Skip this file. Skip all files with errors.I think the problem started when I had a trojan virus that was tough to get rid of (I am hoping I have removed all the remnants--all virus scans come out clean) and moved the entire shell "Pictures" folder to an external hard drive to protect my photos. I realized afterwards that I should have just moved the individual files. I tried to move the entire Pictures folder back to C: drive where it was, but I don't think that worked in maintaining the associations it had, namely with Windows Photo Gallery. How can I get this working again? My system restore doesn't work either anymore, so that will be of no help. I am trying to avoid reinstalling Vista at all costs. Also, when I click on the start button and get the drop down box with the programs on the right side and links to folders on the left (see below), the Pictures link no longer works either, which I think is related to moving the entire folder and trying, unsuccessfully, to move it back. Answer:Windows Photo Gallery-Can't save scanned items-System cannot find file specified

This means when you created the document you only made a link to the pic...instead of copying it into the doc itself...Now the file path/location has changed and that's exactly what the scanning app is telling you. When moving them back it most likely created a new Pictures folder...which path's location is different. You will have to do it manually i'm afraid.P.S. This behaviour wasn't caused by the trojan.

I have an XPS 8500 desktop running Windows 7.  Love it except for one thing: Windows Live Photo Gallery causes Error Code: 0x80010108.  Yes, I can x it down and go ahead and use my computer but want it to stop.  I have googled the code and there are any number of so called fixes out there for it - so they claim.  But I hesitate to download something from sites I don't trust necessarily OR follow instructions given to edit my registry to fix it.  Can somebody recommend a cure for my problem?  I have trusted this forum for over 12 years and feel you will not recommend something that might get me in trouble.

Hi Bessie,
Thank you for the response. I would suggest you to uninstall Windows Live Essentials from the computer and update to the latest version. You can download it from the link http://bit.ly/GQ9tPI . Please disconnect any external peripherals connected to the computer (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) and there should not be any CD/DVD in the drive while performing the steps.
Please reply if you have any questions.

When the PhotoLibary.msi goes it run in gets the "0x80070641 The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." I have Windows Installer 4.5 installed and have tried reinstalling it with no help. If I actually run PhotoLibary.msi "Installer Stopped Prematurely" here is the error signature "szAppName : msiexec.exe szAppVer : 4.5.6001.22159 szModName : msi.dll szModVer : 4.5.6002.22362 offset : 0009c35a " I've tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling several times, I have used the Windows Install Clean Up utility. I have tried the hotfix WindowsXP-KB981669-x86-ENU.exe.

Here is what I get in the event viewer:

I don't know for sure what happened, but suddenly i could not even get into my Windows Photo Gallery. I Googled and tried some things, ran the FixIt tool and was finally able to open the Gallery and access my pictures. However, I can not open pictures within the gallery by just double clicking on them. I have to right click, select "open with" and then choose either "Paint" or "Windows Photo Viewer."

I set my default as Windows Photo Viewer. If it's set at Windows Photo Gallery the Gallery tries to open but fails and I get a window telling me it can't run and then it just closes down.

Answer:Problem opening pictures with Windows Live Photo Gallery

Right click the picture then select Choose Default Program. Select Windows Photo Viewer from the list and make sure the box next to "Always use the selected program..." is checked.

To uninstall all the installed programs that were included in Windows Live Essentials, I went to control panel > Programs & Features and selected Windows Live Essentials. Then repair/uninstall. I choose to remove the features listed and choose all but Mail. I got many error messages and error numbers, so I decided to delete them one at a time. This worked perfectly until I reached the program in the title above.

This is what appeared: We couldn't remove the selected program. Unknown error occurred. Error: 0x80070645 Source: SQLLite.

What does the named error mean and what does SQLLite have to do with WLE?

That program is the one I wanted to remove most, because it's taken over opening Slide Shows and than fails to work. Will someone please, help me remove this thorn in my side?

I am trying to help a friend. He is using Vista. His CD/DVD drive reads and writes fine except in Windows Photo Gallery. In Photo Gallery, if you choose "burn video dvd" it works, but if you choose "burn data disk" it pops up a message saying, "You don't have a disk drive capable of burning files to cd or dvd drive. I have checked the device manager and it is working properly there to. Why won't it work in Photo Gallery?

Earlier this month Neowin revealed Microsoft's upcoming release of Windows Live Messenger 2010 (Part of Wave 4). This week the guys over at Geeksmack have received a few screenshots of Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Photo Gallery. The screenshots are of build 15.0.2403.826, which should be noted is a very early version of Wave 4 and it is expected that features will change before the actual beta early next year. Not much can be said about the screenshots except that both Windows Live Photo Gallery and Windows Live Mail both now feature a Ribbon UI.In an interesting move, it appears that Windows Live writer will now sport a new menu similar to Microsoft Office. The orange icons are currently a placeholder, and will not be in the final build. Not much is known about the current internal builds shown above, but as far as we can tell it appears that no new features have been added at this point.

i have always found the ribbon interface to be more easy to use than the traditional one. So this is a welcome change at least for me

Answer:Windows Live Wave 4: Photo Gallery, Writer and Mail revealed

The one thing that I would love to see Microsoft change about the ribbon interface is to allow it to be placed on the left or the right rather than the top.
The industry is moving to a 16:9 (or wider) format where screens are tight on vertical space with horizontal space to spare.

Hi, my computer is running Windows 7 - 64 bit 3gb. 14 months old

About 5 days ago it started running very slow, programmes were not responding. My hard disc is not a quarter full and I have checked that discs don't require fragmenting. Icons on the task bar disappear and I get black screens. Start up is ok, but shutting down is slow. I mentioned to my son that windows photo gallery live, is particularly slow at loading (at most I only have about 250 pics in) but to my horror, when he had a look, he clicked on the "video's" and there are literally 10,000 pics or icons (for instance dozens of ebay icons - Nero Icons - AOL icons and many others) that I know nothing about.

When the problem first started I did a manual AVG full scan which showed 350 warning, 43 potentially dangerous objects - all the warning were tracking cookies through Firefox. I only look at facebook with Firefox and 2 days ago a manual full scan revealed 45 warnings with about 6 potentially dangerous objects, tracking cookies.

I am very careful with emails, don't open attachments and don't read emails from people I don't know.

Can anyone suggest anything please?

I store and view pictures on my computer with "Windows Live Photo Gallery" (WLFG) and do email with "Outlook", which is selected as my email program of choice. In fact, I don't have any other email programs on my machine.

If I select pictures from my files, there is a button on WLFG which says "email". When you press it, a window comes up headed "Preparing files" and you then chose the file size and press "attach", when the file/s are supposedly attached to a new email ready for sending. This is what I gather from the help file. However, the new email is nowhere to be found. I have searched for it in Outlook, and in WLFG, but it seems it has never been created.

Any ideas?

I'm thinking very seriously of giving Windows Live Photo Gallery [WLPG] it's marching orders, and in it's place, replacing it by downloading Google's Picasa.

This is primarily because of an ongoing problem that I have been experiencing for some months now in loading .jpeg etc. Files from the Documents and Pictures Files Folders to WLPG, the default program I have for these files. There are no such problems with the standard Windows Photo Gallery [WPG], but this is very limited in it's editing capabilities, and I would prefer not to use WPG as the default viewing and editing program.

To me, it appears as if there is a corrupted link between the Document and Pictures .jpeg Files and WLPG, because if I attempt to open and view a .jpeg file, the loading to WLPG takes some minutes to complete, and the end result is a corrupted view, as in this example;

This farce happens every time, for each .jpeg File selected.

I am now considering uninstalling WLPG, and replacing it with Picasa, but before I do, I would appreciate any feedback on Picasa, and it's functions and compatibility with Windows and Vista. Pros and Cons on my planned changes will be welcomed.

As an example, are there any issues in having Picasa as the default program for .jpeg Files, and especially where emailing images via Live Hotmail are concerned??

Any advice and comment on Picasa welcomed, and as a footnote, I have plenty of HDD space available for Picasa.

Hi sassofalco,

If you've got MS Office 2007, you've already got a GREAT photo editing app right on your system - MS Picture Manager. (It's not the default, so most folks don't even realize it's there.) If you've got it, try it before you download a new app. It offers a lot of editing features and is extremely user friendly. You can find it in MS Office Accessories. (Its predecessor was the much loved MS Photo Editor on previous editions of MS Office, located in MS Office Tools.)

I just received this "important update" notification and was wondering if downloading Windows Live Essentials will delete/alter my existing photos--considering Photo Gallery is part of the update.  I know I'm probably being paranoid but
can anyone let me know about any negative consequences to this update?  I know I'm still looking for good, free ways to backup photos and need to ASAP!  Thanks for any advice in advance...;).

I have had a problem with my Gateway NV73 laptop where I would get a BSOD whenever I was viewing video on the internet, viewing pictures in my photo editing program and now after about 5 minutes of just using the internet. The BSOD would come up in a square in the center of the screen and dissappear within seconds. Then the system would still show the power light as on but a blank screen and unresponsive. I would press and hold power button until shutdown and try to restart but only the fan sound was working but nothing else. And after about 30 to 40 minutes later it would boot up just fine, but would then crash after minutes of using it. I tried to get the info needed from the dump files but I literally had to do the whole process stated above many times and I saved the minidump files to my network drive so I could post this on my desktop computer. Please help, I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.

Gateway Laptop Model NV73
AMD processor
3GB Ram
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OEM
Laptop is about 17 months old

I attached a text file with the contents of one of the minidump files but also pasted the results below:

Answer:BSOD w/ viewing photos w/ Windows Live Photo Gallery error 0x0000001e

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I have Visa 64 bit with Photo Gallery. I have read that Live Photo Gallery has some nifty features and may also prohibit the duplicates when importing. If I download Live Photo Gallery, what happens to Photo Gallery? Do I need or keep both on my PC?

Answer:Photo Gallery vs Live Photo Gallery

Can't answer your question, but just wanted to let you know that if you have MS Office, you also have Microsoft Office Picture Manager on your system, and it's a GREAT photo viewing and editing app.
