Mcafee stopped working

Question: Mcafee stopped working

I am running windows vista and somehow, I don't know when, Mcafee stopped working and I got a pop up stating my computer was at risk and smartsecurity site came up. I did some hunting and got this off my computer but now when I try to install Mcafee total protection from the install disk or from the website, it won't install. I need some advice on how to fix this issue. Thanks

Preferred Solution: Mcafee stopped working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Mcafee stopped working

Try restarting your computer, and when the boot splash screen comes up, press F8 repeatedly. This should take you a menu that asks how you want to boot Windows. Select "Safe Mode" if you have the Mcafee installation disc, select "Safe Mode with Networking" if you're installing it from an internet download. When Windows boots up, try and install it and see if it works.

I have been having freezing problems and the laptop sometimes turns itself off it has only just been repaired so everything was re installed but mcafee keeps saying its stopped working and this has been every day for two months am i protected or not

Answer:mcafee message it has stopped working

You are not protected unless McAfee runs without error messages. Try re-installing it or use some other security software. Comodo Internet Security is less well known but works well and there's a free version which still includes firewall + antivirus. What's more, the "Pro" version is only $20 and you can use it on up to 3 computers at the same time.Comodo website: http://www.comodo.com/Another important point is that Comodo is nowhere near as heavy on system resources as McAfee, so you'll have more RAM free for Windows & apps to use.

Today as I turned on my Aspire V3 laptop I found the system running extremely slow. Opening task manager I found RAM and Harddrive was almost running at 100%, then I checked it was McAfee scan that came with Pre-installation that is taking up all the resources. After about 10 minutes of running like this I decided to restart my computer. However after restart many system functions are no longer working. I can no longer access task manager. either CTRL+ALT+DEL or win-r wont bring it up. Tried MSCONFIG and again it wont start after I enter the keys. System restore similarly won't start after I click the bottons. There is no internet, clicking on device manager bottons won't bring up anything, driver update bottons similarly won't bring any response,  even reset to factory default botton won't work-was able to access the menu but when clicking on bottons nothing starts. - it seems as if the whole operating system is broke.  Since this McAfee program came with the Acer laptop (it literarily says McAfee Internet security -Acer on the program menu) was wondering if anyone from Acer knows about this issue and knows how to fix it. Thanks.

Greetings,

I am using Windows XP SP3. On shutdown of my laptop I received a message about Microsoft Updates to install and computer would shutdown when finished installing. An hour later the updates still had not finished installing so I shut down my laptop manually.

When I turned on my laptop I received a message stating could not find C:windows/system 32/ juschd.exe.bat file, however, computer continued to boot up and all appeared well.

I then tried to update McAfee and the Security Center was not able to update so I type in the address bar of Internet Explore www.mcafee.com and Internet Explore was not able to display the page. I also found I could not get to any site with "McAfee" in the address.

I called McAfee and after a hour they said I need to call a different department and that there would be an additional charge.

So I decided to try and fix this on my own. Researched and found that this might be a MTU size error so made registry entry of hkey_local_machine\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndiswan
Parameters\Protocols\0... ProtocolType REG_DWORD 0x00000800 PPPProtocolType REG_DWORD 0x00000021 ProtocolMTU REG_DWORD 1452.

This did not work. Then read to uninstall McAfee. So I uninstalled McAfee including showing all folders and files and then deleting them. Needless to say this did not work. I still could not visit the McAfee websites.

Then I found this forum and did some more reading. Wish I had found this forum first.

Since reading some of the p... Read more

Answer:Acer aspire V3 laptop stopped working after McAfee...

Sounds like the reboot came up in safe mode. Try a shutdown, restart to see if it clears up. Rebooting while in something as intensive as a virus scan / repair is seldom safe. You should always let it continue until it's finished, even if inconvenient.

When I double click any of the following to open them, I immediately get the message:
"[program] has stopped working Windows is checking for a solution to the problem."
Followed soon after by: "[Program] has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

So far, I have found that each of the following all experience the same when I try to
start them: Skype, McAfee, Desktop Windows Manager and Microsoft Help & Support.

It was suggested that I try to remove malware. I have not paid for a program to do so yet.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skype but not the others. I first noticed this when I
tried to use Skype yesterday. I hadn't used it since July.

Was working on the computer yesterday, running Firefox and suddenly went offline. Could not go online again with Firefox, IE or anything else. Did a system restore, didn't help. McAfee AV+ won't run a scan and real-time AV protection keeps turning itself off. I was able to connect to the 'net when I installed a wireless USB adapter and disconnected the ethernet cable. Now Ad-Aware has shut down too

Answer:McAfee Stopped Scanning 2/3/2013.

Uninstall and reinstall is probably the best option. Use their own removal tool to make sure the system is clean of it before reinstalling: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocume...You will find many people ( justifiably ) suggesting that you uninstall and replace with something better, and I would have to agree, McAfee tends to come very low down in security comparison sites, below many of the free options though no free ones provide a complete package. If you have only a short subscription remaining think hard before replacing it."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

Hi, I recently went to the Microsoft update web page to get the latest updates and I installed the security center updates and the malware removal updates but the microsoft.net framework 3.5 sp1 update gets haulted by my Mcafee anti virus and give me this message:

"The file msiecec.exe contains suspicious scripting activity
The script is attempting to call the create text file method within the ifilesystem3 object"

and everytime it comes up I stop it. This is the first time Ive had this problem and am not sure if I should allow it or not. I mean all i did was try to get my updates and ever one of them went except this. Any help. Thanks

Answer:Mcafee Suspicious script stopped

Hi

Its likely the heuristics of your McAfee that is flagging this up, but as its off a Microsoft Server (can also get the full file HERE) then you will be fine to allow it to install the update to .Net, and if McAfee wont let you, disable Mcafee to install this file then re-enable it.

Antivirus apps do ahve a habbit of doing this at times with legit files and HERE is a MSKB albiet on a Powerpoint file but describes a similar event with scripting and Mcafee

Hi!I'm completely out of ideas so I thought I'd run this by you fine people...I have a Dell inspiron, Windows XP. It's three years old. I play my music using iTunes, and the past few days the songs started sounding like there was interference - they were breaking up and all crackly. So I installed the new iTunes, same thing. Only then it stopped letting access iTunes altogether. When I try to open it a message comes up about Quicktime.I thought I'd uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it, so I backed all my music (and pictures, just in case), on to disc and went into control panel and tried to click on add/remove programs. It won't open. It just doesn't do anything. I've tried every which way and I just can't get into it.My computer is so slow (not to mention Dell is AWFUL, will never be buying one again.) I'm wondering if there's a way to fix this, or if I just might need to buy a new computer? I've been sort of looking at Samsung/Toshiba notebooks, but I'm hearing so many conflicting stories about which are good/no good. Anyway, does anyone know if there's a way for me to somehow fix this, at least temporarily? I don't have the original CD's any more so I can't even restore it back to it's factory settings. xoxo

1. Softwarea) Clear out all temporay files and folders -- use Crap Cleaner click hereb) Scan for malware spyware and viruses --Free Anti Spyware :- Superantispyware click hereMalware removal tool click hereFree Antivirus softwareAvast4 click hereorAVG antivirus click herec) Clean the registry -- Use the tool in Crap Cleaner its very safe and also allows you to back up the registry first.d) Pagefile (Virtual Memory) -- Rght click MY Computer - select propeties - Advanced tab - Performance - advanced tab - Virtual memory click change, you can put the page file on a differnt drive (if you have one), click custom size and set Initial size to one and a half times the amount of memory you have fitted i.e. 512MB memory = set to 768MB, set maximum to double your memory amount i.e. 512MB memory = 1024MB click ok.If your hard drive is full and there is not enough room for the pagefile this can slow down, freeze or even cause the PC to crash (restart).e) Cut down on the programs that load at startup -- Start - Run type msconfig - startup tab- untick everything except for firewall, antivirus and antispywareand the services that run in the background. click here

I am helping my father in law with his computer which seems to have become infected. It suddenly stopped doing all sorts of things including:-McAfee won't launch
Internet Explorer won't launch
Firefox opens but can't find internet
Sytem Restore "cannot protect your computer"
System restore won't work in safe Mode either
System drivers etc - properties won't open
Copy and paste won't work on files and folders
Via msconfig mostly all services are stopped and can't be enable - even in safe mode

The computer is an Acer running windows xp SP3.

Things I have tried:-
Ran AVG rescue disc which found and renamed 2 trojans christsimpos and watch4santass
Ran Kapersky Rescue disc which didn't find anything

Tried to run malawarebytes but could because missing a file (vbalsgridx6.ocx) but can't search for this file as Search doesn't work.

Tried to run spyware doctor but it won't run because it insists on updating first and there is no internet connection. (NB AVG and Kapersky managed to update running in DOS (or linux?))

Finally managed to back up his documents by zipping a file and extracting to an external hard drive.

I came to this forum and tried to follow the instructions about DDS file but just flashed on and then doesn't run. I have run GNER and ark.txt is attached.

I am probably at the conclusion that all is lost and will need to re-install. However we do not have any recovery or original discs, although i think I can get a new XP disc.

Hey guys.

So my laptop was running fine yesterday (Windows Vista SP1 64-Bit). I booted it up this morning and a whole multitude of problems commenced:

- My wireless won't work, which is the biggest problem I'm having here (was working perfectly for the past 8 months everyday).
- First thing to happen is I get a BTTray.exe - Bad Image error. I have no idea even what BTTray.exe is. I read somewhere that if it says that it's located in system32, which it is, that it could be malware or something.
- Right after that, QuickSet stops working (Dell program). The QuickSet icon is not in the tray.
- Right after that, my bluetooth devices program stops running even though the icon is still in the tray when it normally is.
- Anytime I try to do a manual scan with McAfee, it just won't start! I hit the "Scan" button, it flashes to the "Scan" page for a second and then goes right back to the "Protection Status" page. My license is fine.. it's almost as if the "Scan" button is linked to nothing.
- One of my addons to Google Desktop stopped working.

Again, this all happened this morning. All these problems apparently come from the tray in the bottom right.

Someone please help!! I need my wireless for school/work!!

Thanks

Answer:Please help with BTTray.exe, McAfee won't scan, QuickSet stopped, and more problems

Bump!! I'll repeat some more of the messages in a little more detail:

"BTTray.exe - Bad Image

C:\Windows\system32\btwhidcs.DLL is iethe rnot designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."

Then I get a quickset.exe - Application Error followed by a "Microsoft Windows: QuickSet has stopped working."

Then I get a "Microsoft Windows: Bluetooth Tray Application has stopped working."

Again my wireless isn't working even though the wireless notification light is on.

McAfee still won't scan.

Please help...

I have a Dell Inspiron one 2305 all in one PC. Came with Win 7, I updated to Windows 10 about a year ago. First few month every thing was great! every thing worked fine. Then Cortana stopped working after a while I can no t search for anything. If you try to type a question it only allow you to type in Two letter and it quits on you. I tried the search trouble shooter but it could not Identify the Problem.
Second thing, MY Optical disk reader stopped after a update Oct 30 2016, I tried the trouble shooter same thing, I tried the Dell fix it, it said update the driver, went to do that that it said i have the lastest drivers, and it found no problem with my disk r/w. I am scared to try and reload win 10 online, because i have no disk reader to load win 7 if there a problem, reloading win 10, I will be totally shut out if a problem accords. Does any one have a solution to any of these problems? Help Please

Answer:Windows 10 Optical disk drive stopped and Cortana stopped working

Open Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives > Right Click > Update drivers.
Else you may Uninstall the driver, use Scan for hardware changes and install fresh latest drivers.
If you familiar with BIOS settings, enter BIOS and select the Load Optial Defaults setting to restore defaults.
Perhaps something here will help you: Optical Disk Drive is not recognized in Microsoft Windows or other applications | Dell US
Regarding Cortana, pls see: Cortana and Taskbar Search not working in Windows 10

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone could help me?  I have been having a lot of issues with my computer and using the internet. I keep getting messages such as ‘windows explorer has stopped working ‘and ‘Host process for windows services stopped working’. I haven’t been able to stream videos (with the exception of youtube),  download certain programs and browsing sites is slow.  I remember my computer being fine until a window update but I don’t know if that’s a coincidence or not.  I have tired uninstalling windows explorer and system restore to no avail.
I would really appreciate any help or advice.

Hello:
The mouse started to stray and stopped working in the middle of doing something, i.e. eBay, typing word and etc. which is very annoying and first of all, I lose all of the work done due to stopping of the mouse.

However, the mouse started working as if nothing wrong, once I restarted by 'force' restart ..... pushing the button in the middle of the PC. Otherwise, the PC is all fine and working OK.

I did apply Malwarebytes to combat the issue, however the issue does not resolve.

Any help on this would be truoly appreciated.

Thanks,

Answer:Mouse stopped working in the middle of working, i.e. eBay, typing word, etc.

Did you try a different mouse? If you still have the same problem with a new mouse, see if there are any drivers for the mouse from it's manufacturers web site.
Also try a Clean Boot, if that works, then add one startup item at a time till the mouse acts weird again, then you know that is the problematic program.

New T530Speakers and Headphones were working fine. I have installed some codecs for VLC (don't think this would affect things) The speakers stopped working, but if you press your ear to the machine, you can hear some tiny clicks / pops when you try to play audio/video (itunes, VLC etc.) Checked Drivers, Sound Mixer, etc. All say the sound is on full.Volume Control Options show Speaker/HP 'realtek High Definition Audio' I tried updating the Sound Drivers. I rolled back the drivers, I unistalled the drivers.Downloaded the drivers from Lenovo, tried Microsoft. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Answer:T530 Speakers have stopped working, headphones still working, tiny small popping / clicking

Not really sure about this, but it sounds like the audio port's mechanical shunt is stuck or broken off.  That is an age old way of turning off speakers when a headphone or external speaker jack is inserted.  The jack pushes a small metal shunt over that opens the internal speakers' circuit.  When the jack is withdrawn, that small shunt is supposed to return to the original position that lets internal speakers function again. If that shunt is stuck or broken, the internal speakers could remain blocked after an external jack is removed. This is not a new problem, but it is not a common problem. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/No-sound-from-internal-speakers-only-from-h...

Hi all,
as of today, my two independent yahoo Email accounts stopped syncing.
I'm receiving error code 80048830, searched the web.
Suggestions were to delete the account and reinstall - no success.
Then to search for specific, potentially corrupy emails that prevent syncing by moving them from inbox to a non-syncing folder. Didn't work.
Since BOTH accounts are affected as of today that doesn't make sense.
Any further suggestions anybody?
Thanks all!

I have had a rather large problem over the last couple of days. It started earlier in the week, when one drive stopped working. Not a big problem, I've had drives fail before. 4 disks, so i can handle one less for a little while, i though. Not so though, while still waiting for my new drive, using my computer like usual (with less load on unit D) i suddenly start getting write-errors to D:, and the Intel Matrix Storage Console lists it as Stopped Working instead of Degraded. Nothing changed except for the status of the Volume, all the disks read the same as before, fully functional.

I have very little experience with these sort of matters. This is the first time I've lost a drive where i might lose data as well, and i have pretty much no idea where to go from here. I've tried to replace the faulty disk with another 500GB drive, but the RAID-setup in BIOS just tells me there isn't enough space, and the Console in Windows places the new drive as a Non-RAID drive. I can mark it as reserve, but that seems to be all i can do with it.

I'm not, hopefully, asking for miracles. I have just two things that i really need to retrieve from the Volume, my Firefox sessions (saved in a separate folder at the root of the drive), and my Thunderbird mail, (stored in their standard location, as my whole Windows-profile is on that drive). Everything else i can get again. (Well, not really, i have stuff stored up from 8-10 years back, from people who has withdrawn from t... Read more

So one day I was using a laptop wirelessly when the internet just suddenly turned off. I checked my modem and it was working fine but when I checked my router, the lights were on but not blinking. it was just a steady light. when I checked for a wireless network the name of the network I usually use didnt show up.

I tried unplugging everything and plugging everything back in again and I tried pressing the reset button on the back of the router. Can anyone help?

Thanks so much

P.S. my router is a linksys WRT300N Wireless-N Broadband router

Answer:Wireless router suddenly stopped working (Lights still working though)

what devices do you have connected the router anything else wireless
make and model of the pc

does the PC work if you connect to the router by a cable ?
if not
try connecting directly to the modem and see if that works OK

we need to see some details, which will mean you need to copy to a working PC
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Direct link to the program is here http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifi_download_redirect.php
Then run and install the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

I went to google to find a fix for this error .I'm being told to Press Window + W key then type in Troubleshooting in the Search box , then enter View All ,then Click IE Performance, then click Advanced etc..... The problem is that when I get to the Search box I start to type in the Troubleshooting and after one keystroke of the T, the computer automatically goes back to my desktop home page. The search engine box will not let me fix this problem. Can somebody help me ? Thanks so much! I have IE 10 and recently upgraded to the windows 8.1 from the Windows 8 about 3 weeks ago.

Answer:hp pavilion 1503 stopped working...and was working fine

Its either failed to find your hard drive or failed to find the boot files on the drive.
Asuume this is a laptop?
What operating system are you using XP Vista or W7?
While in the BIOS (setup) has the machine found and recognised the hard drive?
Is the boot order set as CD rom first and HDD second?
Can you remove and refit the drive to remake the connections as that may well solve a missing drive problem?

Hi,

I am using Windows 10 with all the latest updates. Copy and Paste has stopped working.
I am not able to copy and paste from anywhere e.g. In Notepad highlight a line and copy it and paste it.
It will not paste anymore. In PyCharm as well, Notepad++, Word etc.

I have tried the following fix but it does not solve the problem: Open command prompt and type in %windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c "echo off | clip" to clear the clipboard
I have also tried SFC scanow

Anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks, Riaz

Answer:Windows 10 copy and paste is not working. It stopped working

First, restart Windows. Sometimes it's all that's needed to clear such 'oddities'.

If that fails, try logging in with another account (create a new one if necessary). Does that have the same problem?

Okay, this is the weirdest problem I've ever hard with computers. Here's what happened:

1. I had a few years old Pentium D 2,8GHz processor running on Asus P5VDC-X mobo. PQI 566MHz DDR2 and GF 7600GS 256mb PCI-E, 350W power.
2. I updated the mobo to Asus P5L-MX to support faster PCI-E cards. Everything worked fine, despite the processor ran too hot (58C on high use)
3. Because of the overheating I replaced the thermal paste but it had no effect on the temperature.
4. I thought I used too much paste so I replaced the paste again.
---
5. Bang, no video when I turn on the computer. I tried taking off everything part by part but nothing worked. It didn't work even when I only had processor and used the integrated graphics port. Tried resetting the bios too.
6. Nothing worked so I put back the old P5VDC-X and it worked like charm.
7. I thought it was logical that the problem was caused because of the mobo so I bought a new one, Asrock G31M-S.
8. No video... Did the same steps to this one too. It also had integrated gfx but it didn't work either.
9. The old P5VDC-X still works.

So I have no idea what's causing the problem. Is it the CPU? Mobo? PSU? RAM? I have no speaker on my case so I can't hear any beeps, but it won't start loading the OS from the hardrive and my USB mouse won't turn on. Tried using a differen't monitor too.

The main point is why it stopped working suddenly on new mobo's but still works with the old P5VDC-X? A... Read more

Answer:New mobos suddenly stopped working, old mobo working

Two new motherboards tells us you made the same simple install error in both of them.
Tell us more about power supply, memory, cable.
Did you make sure the memory was correct for both new boards, and what is the memory on the old board. Would also like to know the power supply and other hard ware.
What happens with the most basic, simple install. Does everything light up?

If you used the same hard drive with the same Windows install on the two motherboards, that is the problem. Windows has detected that you have changed the motherboard and will not operate unless you reinstall Windows on the drive on each new motherboard... One install for each motherboard.
My guess is that you will be fine if you change hard drives or do reinstalls or repair installs of the Windows on the new motherboard.

I installed the new update for McAfee SiteAdvisor (update 26.1 I think) and now it won't work! It's just grey on every site I go to, and when I search for something on Google, no icons come up to tell me which sites are okay or not. I uninstalled it and then went to McAfee's site and downloaded it again, restarted FireFox, and it still won't work. I tried to click on Enable SiteAdvisor but nothing happens. Actually, nothing happens when I click on ANY of the menu options that come up when you click on the SiteAdvisor button in the FireFox window.

I'd really appreciate some help with this, I feel lost without SiteAdvisor

PS, I have Windows ME. I know......

Four years ago I bought McAfee VirusScan 6.0 and you could download and install the updates every week. Two years ago I bought McAfee VirusScan 7.0 thinking I need a newer version. I installed it and updated it no problem but I didn't like it compared with 6.0 so 6.0 went back in. On 30/10/06 I downloaded sdat4883.exe, installed it no problem. The following day I downloaded sdat4884.exe but when I tried to update it said I don't have any McAfee products. This is bull I've been using McAfee for four years. So last November I decided to upgrade McAfee again to McAfee VirusScan 2006 v10.0. Installed it no problem. Tried to install the latest update but it came back with the same error I don't have any McAfee products. I ran sdat4883.exe which worked before and it worked again. In the new year I decided to do a format and rebuild, I hadn't done one for 18 months. So I knew everything would be fresh and not corrupted. I reinstalled Win98se and decided to put the VirusScan in first to see if it would work. It installed in no problem, I ran sdat4903.exe the lastest update but it couldn't find any McAfee products again. I ran sdat4883.exe which worked before and it worked again. So in conclusion no updates work from 31/10/06, as anyone else had this problem? What I've been doing for the past couple of months is copying the update files of the computers at work to a flash drive and taking them home that way.

this all started about a month ago in the beginning of February. I noticed that when I searched on a search engine, and clicked on a result, it redirected me to another site. (there were some exceptions, sometimes it worked when cookies were turned off, or if it was a big site e.g. Microsoft), I was tired of viruses on my computer and I didn't want to deal with it so I ignored it. now, McAfee gives an error that says "the detection signature file is between 7 and 29 days old. I looked this up, and this was found on virus- infected computers. so i searched all files on my computer that were modified in the past month, and almost all of them were in documents and settings/ "user" I have been downloading some online games recently, as well as other things like updates to drivers. the thing is, everything else works fine, but when I try to access documents and setting/ "user" , windows explorer crashes, and the screen goes blank except for the background, then starts up again. (programs do not crash, only the explorer does). so then I thought, "man , my computer is really infected." so I tried system restore, but it was turned off. after digging around in the registry, I deleted a value that turned it off, but all my restore points were deleted. my computer is really infected bad. I recently used McAfee anti virus solutions on my computer. And they didn't work to the best of my anticipation. For example, when I tried to download updates from their server it never worked (I legitimately obtained a copy of the solution, their servers were online and my internet and computer functions were operational). I have an AMD Athlon 3500+ 64 bit processor. I have known others with 32 bit processor computers, who have used the exact same software I have; and it worked fine on their computers. Could this be because of my processor? I am also running Windows XP Home Edition with all of the current updates :chef: .

Your efforts are deeply appreciated.
Regards,

Alex

Hi-I am new here and really need your help. I have a Dell dimension E520 desktop with windows vista. I have had the computer for almost 2 years with no problems. When I bought the computer from dell I automatically received McAfee for 3 years free and I was told to install Super Antispyware from someone at dell and they have been running perfectly together until now. A couple of days ago I noticed problems computer running slow and stuff. It was shutting down while I was in the middle of something so I thought maybe it was because my c drive was getting low on memory, it was down to 75 gb....so I backed up some pictures and stuff and removed them from the computer. But my Photoshop is still running slow and I am back up to 250 gb. Then yesterday I got a message from McAfee that I needed to reinstall it. Then before I could do anything a pop up came up from Antivirus 360...I was afraid to do anything so the only thing I new to do was shut it down and then try to remove it. I was told from a few people to never click on anything like that because that is how they get you sometimes. So when I restarted and starting searching for it to remove it, I couldn't find it. However, I had a little icon at the bottom of my computer saying that something was being prevented from starting upon restart and under run blocked program was the av360, so I new it was there somewhere. Well, I called Dell and they spent over an hour using various things...Malwarebytes, Dr Web, and Highjack This... Read more

I have McAfee Siteadvisor as a plugin for Firefox. Apparently, it is a part of McAfee Webadvisor. I like how Webadvisor scans the files that I download before they get saved to my computer. Recently, my desktop no longer opens Internet Explorer. Double click on the icon, it will briefly show the hourglass, then a flash of Explorer, but then nothing. I tried opening from Start Menu as well as All Programs, with same result. In trying to find the cause, I also notice that Windows Update does not open; nor does my McAfee Security Center. Could I have picked up a virus? Any assistance in resolving this problem is appreciated. (I definitely have internet connection, as my laptop works just fine from home using wireless router.)Thanks, outlawbill

Answer:IE, Windows Update, McAfee not working

Maybe so we will need to run a few scans to determine what the problem might be.Please download exeHelper to your desktop.Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.Post the contents of exehelperlog.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com, and should open at the end of the scan)Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file). Download DDS and save it to your desktop. DDS.scrDisable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed. Then double click dds.scr to run the tool. When done, the DDS.txt will open.Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:1. DDS.txt2. Attach.txt (do not zip just copy/paste) Save both reports to your desktop then post them please. You may need to post in segments to get all the info to us as the logs may be to large to fit in one post. Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from one of these sites:MalwareBytes1 MalwareBytes2Rename the setup file, mbam-setup.exe, before you download it. To do that once the "enter name of file to save to" box appears as the download begins in the filename box rename mbam-setup.exe to tool.exe> click save.1. Double Click tool.exe... Read more

I started up my laptop and instantly got a popup prompting me to use my antivirus software. But it was a weird icon and clearly not McAfee, which is my software. I don't know where this came from so I shut down my computer. I restarted in safe mode and opened McAfee. It said it could not fix the problems because of "errors." I ran a full scan and it detected and quarantined one item (a trojan, apparently). I restarted normally, still with the same problems. Restarted in safe mode again and still McAfee won't fix the problems. Please help!

Hi, My older computer which runs windows 2000 pro is having problems with what i believe to be a form of the Vundo trojan. Whenever I try to access any web browser on the machine (IE or Firefox) I get an error message that says "IEXPLORE.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." . On some occasions I can get firefox to work, but I can't go to any web pages other than my home page (google). I actually got this same message when I ran Hijackthis but only after the scan was finished (I only scanned and took a log, nothing else) Also my McAfee virus scan (which I have ran since the problem started) is getting multiple Vundo trojan hits. It has also picked up several "generic Pups" and other random trojans. However McAfee has done nothing to solve the problem.

This problem has some other weird parts to it unfortunately. Heres one example: I know you guys advise against this but before I thought about trying here I tried using Vundofix assuming it was the vundo trojan, however whenever i would attempt to put the vundofix.exe on my computer (via usb drive because of no internet) McAfee would detect a "generic" trojan and would delete vundofix. this would happen as soon as you viewed or ran the vundofix file in any way.
Then today i turned the computer on and got an even stranger message from a windows that said "DrWatson Fatal Error Dr. Watson was unable to atta... Read more

Clock stops.
I also cannot get into McAfee website to download antivirus.

Hi,
Last week McAfee security centre wouldn't open, sidebar gadgets wouldn't work and couldn't get past certain points on many of our usual websites for all four users on our new computer (only a month old) All products are now working on my user account (administrator) but they still won't work on the other three user accounts.

We have Vista Home Premium (x32), use McAfee security centre version 8. The computer is a Hewlitt Packard model name a6150a/product #GS292AA-ABG

I've tried system restore, uninstalling/reinstalling McAfee virus scan but have had no luck.
It's very frustrating for the other members of my family not being able to access their favourite sites properly (eg lets you log in but then nothing) etc etc

I have no idea what else to try so would appreciate any advice!

Ok, so I have an Acer computer that came pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. And it's now Service Pack 1. I have Mcafee Anti-Virus and when I try to click on Real Time Scanning or Firewall, they turn themselves back off. Now this may have something to do with the services like Base Filtering Engine because when I go to it in Services and try to turn it on, it says "Access is denied". Ok, well, then I tried going to Windows Firewall and clicked on "Use recommended settings" and I get an error "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x8007042c." Ok, well, maybe it has something to do with viruses, I don't know.I tried contacting Mcafee and they wanted me to pay for 1 yr techincal support in order to get rid of the viruses that are probably causing Mcafee (and possibly the Base Filtering Engine) to not work. Of course, I didn't agree to it.
Now, I am thinking about trying the Mcafee 1 yr technical support again, but of course I'd have to get permission from my father since it's his computer. But I don't know if it'll even be worth it. I don't know if Mcafee will be able to remove all the viruses, trojans, malwares, ect. from the computer and have everything working again. That includes the Real Time Scanning, the Firewall, Base Filtering Engine, Windows Firewall, HomeGroup, ect. There was one thing I didn't mention. I've been having problems with my HomeGroup. Now I was just able to get the Homegroup computers connected. When you open Windo... Read more

I use a Dell Inspiron 6000, and i am aware that Dell computers usually come with Mcafee software installed. But i was trying to use Skype and other video chatting software but it wasn't working properly.I uninstalled Mcafee after following the advice of someone from a different forum, because they said Mcafee prevents such chatting software from working properly. So i downloaded RegSweeper and deleted all McAfee files. NOw, my computer loads a little slower and also the internet does not work. Security Center used to have me sign in when the computer first started up in order to access internet, and i think that is why i can't connect to the internet now. but i have no idea as to what i should do to fix it!

Hello~~

Once again I find myself coming to your forums for help!

I have been having problems with my laptop shutting down or logging off completely, which requires me to do a hard shut down with the power button.   Today, each one of my internet browsers (Chrome, IE, Firefox) was giving me various troubles.  Shockwave kept crashing in Chrome so nothing would load, IE would freeze, and I was getting privledge errors in Firefox, plus Java errors.

I ran Malwarebytes, which found WiseCustomCalla50.dll (Trojan.BHO) and had it quaranteened.  However, I cannot get McAffee to run at all (it's frozen on 0%) and am still having browser issues.

I ran DDS in safe mode, if that makes a difference in the information it provides.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey, On my computer I noticed something was wrong when I noticed i would get redirected to advertisements, which signaled Adware to me. So I tried using McAfee to get rid of it. Everything was disabled on Mcafee, and When I tried to fix it all these error messages popped up. I have 2 Hijack This! Logs, one in safe mode, one in regular mode, so hopefully you guys can help me out with this.

And I don't know how to turn off McAfee, I try ending the process and it always reboots itself, and there's no exit Mcafee option.

the txt file that's titled jibberish was the scan done in safe mode.

I did an online scan by ESET and it got rid of three things, 2 were variants of something like Win32 trojan, and the other one was a WIN32Virus. Hopefully this helps.

The OS is Windows XP Home Edition SP3.

Furthermore my Mcafee Security Center tells me that my computer is protected and when I click the fix button it says one or more problems can not be fixed. And despite the fact that I use firefox I get Internet Explorer pop-ups while on the web.

I have run Super Anti-Spyware complete scan multiple times and each time it has deleted plenty of files but never the ones causing these problems.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Several error loading Run.dll messages pop up upon log in, mcafee security center not working

Hello, first I will be moving this to the AM I Infected from the XP forum as you still have malware.A "Cannot find...", "Could not run...", "Error loading... or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but has been deleted. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an anti-virus or anti-malware scan. However, an associated orphaned registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up. Since the file no longer exists, Windows will display an error message. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the file when it loads. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click HERE if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune & save it to your desktop.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.Click the Empty... I'm hoping this is the virus coming back again, and not that it was dormant in my pc the whole time. here is the link to the last time i had it. last time, from what i remember, it was only a firefox redirect issue, whereas now it seems to be on ie as well, and the windows updater doesn't work and the mcafee firewall won't stay on - when i press turn on, it automatically goes back to off

I downloaded an ipchanger called Invisible Ip Map (torrent). Then ran it on my computer. seemed to work fine until I connected to the internet with a different ip (Saudi Arabia). I had a fun time trying to read google in Arabic and was able to change the ip settings back to normal. However, other problems occured, windows defender was disabled and I tried reenabling it using windows help guide and an error 1058 popped up. I tried going to update.microsoft.com and a pop up came up and i read about it, googled it and such and used the smitfraudfix.exe to try fixing it. nothing, it ended up screwing up my computer even further where McAfee is missing a whole bunch of things, a few errors popped up that i didn't have a chance to write or printscreen. Now, i'm using another computer to type this message and try to find a way to resolve it without reinstalling windows-my last resort being that i have over 500gb of files that can't be backed up on a 250gb external.Deckard's System Scanner v20071014.68Run by Mike on 2008-05-29 00:32:20Computer is in Normal Mode.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- System Restore --------------------------------------------------------------Successfully created a Deckard's System Scanner Restore Point.-- Last 5 Restore Point(s) --23: 2008-05-29 04:32:24 UTC - RP278 - Deckard's System Scanner Restore Point22: 2008-05-29 04:06:03 UTC - RP277 - Last known good configuration21: 2008-05-29 04:05:59 UTC - RP276 ... I have used "Data Execution Prevention" (DEP) listing my ACDC file viewer. I listedACDC because after it completes normally each time, there is an error message that says "Application has stopped working." I no longer want to see this error message.I use ACDC 7 for viewing and editing graphic files, here with this Windows 7 (64) system.

I usually select files with Windows Explorer, and they open using ACDC.

When I close the last file viewed, I get this error message that says "ACDSee 7.0 Application has stopped working"Installations of this ACDC on other Windows 7 computers do not have this issue. So I need to resolve it.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

Two things happened: Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted. Windows Update had some updates ready (although I'm not sure if it updated).

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

Hello,

I have Windows XP with Mcafee virus protection and Firewall. The virus software fails to update because it can not connect to the Mcafee site. I use windows explorer 8 and can access all sites except Mcafee. Do I have a virus or malware? Need help to remove. I contacted Mcafee and they had me download their Stinger tool, but that did not find any virus.

Thanks.

Hi - would be very grateful of some help! Running XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, SP3. Using IE7 primarily, but also Firefox 3. :In IE, although it doesnt happen all the time, Google often re-directs to various ad-sites, although the correct site can be reached by clicking Back. It will not let me access the McAfee website - giving a "HTTP 501 Not Implemented or HTTP 505 Version Not Supported" error. Firefox randomly crashes and re-starts every now and then and gives a blank page with "The specified method is not supported" for McAfee.McAfee Security Centre does not start up automatically any more on startup even though I havent changed any settings. When the program is opened from the desktop it states the detection signiture is out of date, however when I try to update, it appears to try before giving an update error and telling me to reinstall McAfee Internet Security (which I can't do because I cant access the website!).Having looked at several topics on here and other boards, I have tried doing the following scans with the respective results - all without any success:SUPERAntiSpyware, first scan:SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Loghttp://www.superantispyware.comGenerated 04/21/2009 at 01:23 AMApplication Version : 4.26.1000Core Rules Database Version : 3854Trace Rules Database Version: 1806Scan type : Complete ScanTotal Scan Time : 01:29:29Memory items scanned : 674Memory threats detected : 0Registry items scanned : 7459Registr... this is quite a long story so thanks for reading it.

hi, i need some help with some issues ive been having over the last couple of days. im going to explain everything, some parts may be irrelevant but i dont want to leave anything out.

On the 29th of september whilst on a website java 6 popped up as if to install then disappeared. my mcafee notified me it had removed a trojan ,after that it kept popping up to tell me it had removed a trojan and i continued viewing the site, i pressed stop notifying me presuming it would continue to remove trojans. later i tried to start a game i have, called minecraft, an error popped up saying couldnt start java virtual machine(maybe this isnt that relevant and could be an entirely different problem but it happened after the trojan incident and was working fine before).
i decided to restart hoping all would be well but when i shutdown windows notified me i had updates to install, i said ok. instead of saying "windows is installing update 1 of 5" etc, it just said windows is shutting down and froze. i forced a shutdown by holding the power button and when i restarted my start bar and icons where missing.

i started again in safe mode and tried restoring my pc to earlier that day and restarted again. the icons where not there nor the startbar and task manager was "disabled by my administrator" i went back to safe mode and ran superantispyware which found some horrible things like "disabletaskmanger" some trackin...
