Sound coming from headphones and speakers at the same time

Question: Sound coming from headphones and speakers at the same time

I've tried searching Google for a fix but I can't seem to find anything atm. I'm using the Realtek High Definition Audio driver.

Preferred Solution: Sound coming from headphones and speakers at the same time

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Sound coming from headphones and speakers at the same time

Update your Realtek Audio Drivers --> http://www.realtek.com/Downloads/dow...Level=3&Conn=2

Go into Realtek Control Panel and check settings.

Hi everyone. I have my headphones plugged in and am getting poor sound quality out of them. My computer says that the sound is coming through my speakers, but its not (its just coming through the headphones.) I've attached a picture of what the comp's showing me for reference. I've tried going to the Sound menu and making the headphones the default device, with no luck. This issue seemed to happen after I was done using Google video chat with my headphones plugged in. I am trying to get the sound quality in my headphones back to normal. They work with every other device. Please help!

Answer:CPU says sound coming through speakers, but its coming via headphones

Did you try re-plugging the headphones yet? Is it jacked or USB?

Hello, good morning, here's the deal, "sometimes" I have no sound on my computer, I've tried updating and rollback all my audio drivers, especially Realtek ones, dozens of times, and still nothing... (Understand that my computer recognizes sound coming out of the computer, but the speakers and puggled headphones dont work...)
When I say "sometimes", I mean I only get sound if I suspend (close laptop screen) for the whole night, and when I wake up and turn it on, I have sound... BUT, if I restart the computer, I will not have sound again...

I think the problem here is not from the drivers, since the drivers I've installed before and after the "suspend" during the night, are the same, and I think its not hardware problem, since the speakers and headphones work fine after that "suspend"...

I know its not a problem of sound in the computer, for that matter, because I can get sound out of a bluetooth speaker or so.

I've tried almost everything, but maybe something is missing, or it can be a bad connection "inside" the computer, but somehow, the speakers/headphones work after the "suspend"...

I hope you guys can understand what I'm saying, or indentify my problem...

Thank you in advance and I await your response :)

Good morning!

Hi everyone, I bought a new computer recently and the sound doesn't seem to be working. I've tried updating the drivers, restarting the PC, downloading Windows Updates and none of them seem to work.

If anyone has a fix for this I'd be very grateful.

I've googled and googled and everything I've tried I either don't have the options or it didn't work. The issue is whenever I plug in my headset.. both my laptop's speakers and mic work.. as well as my headset's speakers and mic. I'm plugging the headset into the audio and mic jacks on the laptop.

My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5570-2052 (Came with Vista, I installed XP Home)

Under the Device Manager's Sound, video, and game controllers list I have:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Realtek High Definition Audio
Video Codecs

I also have Realtek HD Audio Manager installed.

What I want to happen is when I plug in my headphone's mic and speaker jacks the laptop's mic/speaker turns off. I've tried messing with all kinds of stuff with no luck at all.

I didn't have sound in headphones, so I used HP Support Assistant to get the right audio driver. Now sound comes out both speakers and headphones. Reading around the web, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling driver. That didn't help. I do not have an additional Sound software conflicting with it. I do not have a headset under Recording, only microphone. Looking at Sound under Control Panel, it has:Speakers and Headphones  IDT High Definition Audio CODEC - it says this even when I don't have headphones plugged inCommunications Headphones IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (Unplugged) -this option is grayed out.tia

Hi, I'm having trouble getting sounds to come out of my speakers. I downloaded the SB live drivers and turned digital output on and yet I'm getting no sound coming out for my speakers. However when I turn digital output off I get sounds from my headphones just fine. I checked all the volume controls to make sure nothing is muted yet no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:No sound coming out of speakers but are for headphones

Well, Most speakers for computers do not take a digital input so that is causing a problem some where. Where are you plugging the headphones and speakers?

On my HP ProBook 450 G2 which is running Windows 10 Pro with 3.88 GB of usable memory out of 4 GB with a 64 bit operating system --- regardless of it being speakers, headphones, etc., any device plugged into the headphones jack will not play sound through it. How can I fix this problem?

Hi,I have a case (I work in IT support) where a user is getting sound still coming out of the machine speakers even when she plugs in her headphones. I checked the Sound and Audio settings in control panel, she seems to have only one device for all sound, audio etc (Audiotek), which appears to be working ok. It just doesn't cut out when she puts in the headphones. I checked she wasn't putting them into the wrong port, but there's only one headphone socket. I also changed the Desktop Headphones section from No Speakers to Desktop Stereo speakers, but nothing changed. Any ideas why this might be happening? It's a typical office set up, Windows XP Pro installed on a desktop.

Answer:Sound coming through speakers even when headphones plugged in

There is a mechanical switch on the headphone jack that is designed to turn off the speakers when headphones are plugged in.  It sounds like that switch has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

Hey,
Just recently I've purchased and install an Asus Xonar DSX soundcard for use with my headphones (AD700x) H
However after about 3 days with only about 3 hours use, sound would only come out of my left earphone. I tried reseating the soundcard to no avail, I the had to shoot out the house to pick my little one up, came back and the sound was working again, however onnly for about an hour before the problem popped up again.
I've tried plugging my speaker into the sound card input and the same problem persists (my speakers have been working fine for about 4 years before this)
I've also tried plugging everything into my motherboards audio inputs with no success. I've also just completely reinstalled Windows 7 to see if that can fix the problem but it STILL persists!
I'm totally at a loss and pretty annoyed by this now so any help would be greatly appreciated.

So Recently I got a new computer its an Acer. It only has one jack for headphones and microphones and usually when I plug one in it works fine and asks me to clarify which I'd like to use. I switch between headphones and microphone a lot so its a very useful tool for me. Though recently when I plug it in it no longer gives me the option to choose and no sound plays from the headphones and it instead plays from the speakers whether its plugged in or not. It also dims the sound a bit when they're plugged in so I think it decided I was mainly/only going to use microphone and set it to a mic one regardless of what's plugged in. I'm not very tech savvy but I tried my best to fix it. I tried other headsets, It is the same. I tried half plugging it in or fiddling with it, Its the same. I tried going into the sound playback list and seeing if it was disabled and it is not, It does not even show headphones as an option though it does show 'speaker's. I tried messing around in those settings and restoring them to default and nothing worked. I also tried going to the mic settings. For the mic settings there is two different options, 'microphone' which I assume is the one I usually plug in (since I can just plug my mic in and it works now) and stereo mix. I'v tried disabling the mic and enabling stereo mix and vise verse and tried restoring to default and tried making it forget about the mic and putting it back on and nothing is working and I really would like to use my headset since I l... Answer:No sound coming from headphones but speakers work

Try a reinstall and see if it fixes the problem. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for your sound device (Could be Realtek, Conexant, etc) and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of corruptions and may fix your problem.

In reference to the Stereo Mix, that should be set as the default Recording device. Then if you use the mic it will be heard, or if you want to record audio from the Internet you must have the Stereo Mix.

Hello. All of the workarounds I have heard about are in section 5 of the Headphone Jack FAQ.

Did you run the audio tests in the ePSA or PSA diagnostic utility to make sure the speakers are still working?

Finally, what is the operating system. If Windows 10, recent "updates" have caused all kinds of audio problems, so it could be related to that.

Hi,

I have the following problem with Dell Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit: When headphones are connected to the headphone jack, the laptop speakers will not disable.

The laptop recognizes headphones (test sounds are coming through) and they can be used for communications, e.g. Skype. The laptop has IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver's latest version.

On the other hand, sound from softwares and games are coming from the speaker.

According to me, the problem would be that it is not possible to switch headphones as default device in control panel -> sound.
See the Attached pic, even if i click "Default Device" for headphones it does nothing, there is no tickmark even after clicking
Pls Help!

Apparently, This problem was caused after my motherboard and heatsink were replaced by dell service guy due to overheating.

Okay, so here's the history...

The other night, I came home to a high pitch noise coming from my turtle beach headphones. Upon removing the headphones from my computer, I the sound started coming from my speakers. I then shut off my computer. I removed everything except the power cord. I could hear a different, yet similar whine. Upon opening my computer, I heard the noise coming from within. I then took out the video card, and started the beast back up. Same thing... After hours of browsing forums on my phone, I decided it was either my CPU or PSU. I then removed the PSU and jump started it to check whether or not it was making the noise. It ran fine and made no noise. However, upon connecting it to the motherboard and starting it, I then heard the noise again. When I listened closely to the CPU, I heard nothing, then I listened to the PSU which was outside of my case this time, and I could hear not only the high pitched whine, but also a slight... crackling noise...

It was then that I jumped on newegg and ordered a new PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139011 . After 1 long, unbearable night and into the morning, the PSU was here, and I spent 3 hours carefully setting it up, and organizing the cords in and around my computer.

NOW THE GOOD STUFF...

Upon turning on my computer, everything seemed fine. I quickly jumped on youtube and started a video.. no sound coming from my headphones...
I then pulled out my headphones from the jack... No sound com... Read more

When I plug my headphones in the sound comes from the headphones and laptop speakers. Obviously with headphones plugged in sound should only come from the headphones and not speakers aswell.

Hello.

I've got a Thinkpad T430s (Windows 7) here and it's acting strangely. Namely, if I play a clip through the laptop's speakers, I hear no sound, but when I plug the headphones, everything works nice and neat.
One thing I noticed, is that computer actually recognises the sound, because the volume mixer/application, at the lower right/tray, and it's volume bar shows me the green indicators jumping up and down, as the music plays.

Of course I've tried reinstalling the drivers, I've uninstalled the audio device in Device Manager and restarted the computer. And yes, the obvious things are also checked - nothing (the applications) is muted in the volume mixer, default device is correct under playback devices.

Some have reported on the web, that it might help to use toothpick for example and "un-jam the sensor", but that didn't help either.

I've also tried booting up the newest Linux Mint (has pretty good multimedia support) from the USB and I heard no sound through speakers.

So I'm out of ideas here. It looks more and more like a hardware fault, but how can I be absolutely sure?
Thanks for helping out,
starsplash

Answer:Sound coming from my headphones and speakers simultaniously - Alienware M17x R4

Hello. Please post your problem again, because half of your text has been chopped off. You might have to type it instead of paste.
Try switching to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on the Creative Labs Recon driver.3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Recon driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]If you only have the symptoms with one of the drivers, then the other is at fault. If you have the same symptoms with both audio drivers, then it is very probably not a driver issue, maybe hardware.

I've a brand new C660 258, running on Windows 7.
Playback device: Realtek High Definition Audio

*Whenever I have headphones or external speakers plugged in via the 3.5mm jack, sound still comes through the built-in speakers.*

Here's what happened so far:

When I first plugged in external speakers, I was prompted to select whether I'd plugged in headphones or speakers. I selected "speakers" and then also, perhaps foolishly, selected "do not ask me again".
Now I cannot get to that selection again.

Here's what I've tried so far:
- Reboot
- Try different headphones, try them on other devices
- System restore (failed, for some reason)
- all possible settings via the Sound control panel

Basically, i think I'm looking for a way to disable the ATAPI Internal jack when the external 3.5mm jack is in use.

I am aware there was a similar thread a while ago, but the problem may be slightly different, and possibly due to the fact that I selected "do not ask me again". At least I hope it's not a hardware problem...

I have a HP Pavilion g6, Win10. Today the sound on my laptop started playing from the speakers and headphones at the same time. A quick google tells me this is a known and stubborn problem for some HP users. None of the advice worked for me so I tried the option of unisntalling and reinstalling the sound drivers. Looking at the 'Sound' tab of the cotrol panel in Playback there was a device, IDT High Definition Audio, which said it wasn't working. Looking at the control panel I had two options for which sound driver to uninstall- AMD HD Audio Device, or IDT High Definition Audio. Given the fact that IDT Audtio was apprently not working, I chose to unisntall that one. I unchecked the box saying to remove all drivers.  Apparently this was the wrong thing to do, but the instructions made no mention of this. I then searched for and downloaded the IDT High Def Audio driver, restarted my computer and... No sound, and no way of reinstalling the driver. In device manager if I scan for hardware changes it comes up with nothing. If I try all the options to reinstall the sound driver, and even specify the folder where I downloaded the IDT High Def driver, it tells me my sound driver is already up to date. In the Sound tab of the Control Panal, in Playback, I now only have one thing - "Digital Display Audio" - and that's with it showing disabled devices too. Help! Thanks.

#HPExpertDayThis is  driver and setting conflict issue. Windows would have tried updating the drivers and someother program might be overiting it. You will have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and software for Audio.

In the Windows audio playback tab there's only "speakers" but sound is playing from both speakers and the headphones, with headphones plugged into the right jack. I checked the Realtek Control Panel and there was F**K ALL for options there (see attached). There is an Intel(R) Display Audio in Device Manager alongside Realtek High Definition Audio. So now I can't watch warm-up videos at school without blasting the sounds through my speakers as well.

I tried a System Restore to before the problem started but it didn't do anything. The problem started around the time I ran an Advanced Systemcare 8 scan, which does the following tasks:
Spyware Removal
Registry Fix
Privacy Sweep
Junk Files Clean
Internet Boost
Shortcuts Fix
Registry Defrag
System Optimization
Security Defense
Disk Scan
Vulnerability Fix (Windows Updates)
Disk Optimization
Also when I move my laptop it shuts off for some reason, so it could've interupted the scan or updates or something.
System Specs included inside attached DxDiag.

Answer:Audio coming out of headphones and speakers

I don't know about your sound card, but with my X-FI, there is an option for automatic headphone detection, and an option of weather or not to mute the speakers. You might want to make sure you didn't overlook something like that.

Also, if your laptop manufacturer was dumb enough to mix AC97 equipment with a sound card made to the Intel HD audio standard, it could have that effect. If this is the case (which isn't very likely) your pretty much SOL.

Hi I bought a E470 Thinkpad with windows 10 ~2 months ago. The computer has been sitting idle for the last month (in sleep mode) and when I started it today I have an issue where the internal speakers wont output any sound. However connecting headphones or other external devices lets me outout audio (through said device). I've looked through various topics online (non-lenoveo related). The most common issues people have are the following:-Speakers are disabled / not selected as default device  *Pretty confedent this isn't my problem as everythin seems fine in the audio properties/settings-The driver is broken and needs reinstallation / replacement  *I have reinstalled the driver "Conexant Smartaudio HD", same problem after restart  *I have replaced the driver with the "High Definition Audio Device", same problem after restart-There's a sensor in the mini-jack socket whats faulty leading the computer to believe headphones are connected  *I don't know the correct way to go about diagnosing this, but several users on another forum fixed the issue (on different computers) by "poking around" with a toothpick in the audio jack.  Other observations / useful info:The computer does not appear to "know" that there is an issue with the audio. The internal speakers are not disabled, in able to adjust the volume bar. When I connect an external speaker / headphones a dialog box appears where I can chose between Headphones, Headset and Speaker. For th... Read more

I'm having problems when I plug my headphones into the headphone socket, sound comes through both the headphones and the speakers.

It hasn't always done this, only for a few months and i've been trying to find out how to fix it for a long time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

thanks.

Answer:Satelline Pro A200: When headphones are connected sound comes through headphones + speakers

Maybe your headphone jack is faulty.
Usually the tiny switch which is placed in the headphone socket should disable the speaker?s functionality if the headphone was plugged in.
If this switch doesn?t functions correctly then the sound could comes through the speakers too?

I think this is a ASP case and the notebook technicians should check this?

Good luck

Hello Quzz and welcome to Seven Forums.

A lot seems to depend on how any particular computer is set up and what kind of hardware is installed. There are several suggestions in these two previous threads. Perhaps one will work for you.

Earlier this week I received and downloaded the latest update to Windows 10. It went smoothly as expected and everything seemed fine until yesterday I began to experience a buzzing scratch noise from my laptop speakers. It was intermittent at first and then it escalated. Certain music and audio like dialogue and certain songs experiences this scratching noise along side the regular audio a lot. To test wither the cause is physical (speakers themselves) or software related (due to update) I have done the following. I have tried what was said in this question; http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/HP-15-audio-crackles-unless-headphones-plugged-in/td-p/5.... I have created a system restore point on the notebook and backup complete data and uninstalled the audio drivers from device manager and reinstalled it. It has not worked and I am now assuming it is a physical problem with the speakers themselves. If that is the case, what should I do? A check seems to show that my warranty is still applicable; should I go with it?

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memoryThe built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

Answer:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

I want to use my headphones for things such as firstperson shooters and my speakers for music. I'm using a Realtek AC97 Audio soundcard. It has Pink(microphone), Green(speaker), and Blue(I assume its for secondary audio output) colored ports in the back with nothing in the front. I've played around with the soundcard settings and the volume control in windows(just to make sure everything is unmuted and turned up all the way), but the blue port doesn't make any sound. Can anyone help me find out how to make this possible without buying a splitter for the working one?

Answer:How do I use speakers and headphones at the same time?

Onboard sound is both a blessing and a curse at the same time. Im assuming you are talking about the onboard chip on your board and not a pci card.
Mic - Audio in- and a line out. Its been a while - I think thas close.
I remember I had a ac97 compliant integrated chip a while back.
I didnt have much of a prob with it besides the cpu cycles it ate.
I think you will need some form of pci card (turtle beach or soundblaster) or a soundsystem that offers a port for your headphones with a seperate volume control otherwise your headphones will be blaring the same decibel as your main speakers and be blown apart in a few hours if you do not have an inline volume control on your headset. most models of logitech or klipsich speakers offer headset ports in the main volume control module - however there are much much cheaper options out there then those.

Hope this helps

I have a headphone jack on the front of my computer. Is there any way I can make it so that I can plug in something in the headphone jack and still have the speakers working?

The reason is I have two sets of speakers and I want to use them both (the second set behind me) and have like a quadratic speaker setup but I only have one speaker port.

I know I can use a Y-splitter on the speaker port but I don't have one and the stores are too far away so I don't feel like going right now. I was wondering if there was a setting on my computer that I could change to allow this.

Answer:Speakers AND Headphones At the Same Time

Nope, as soon as you plug into your headphone jack, it's going to disable your rear jacks. The only way I know of is using the "Y" cable you referred too.

Thanks!

I want to use both headphone and speaker at the same time. Like, the same audio comes from both of them. I want to use this so i can combine my speakers with the TV ( the one i use as monitor ) speakers to work as the 5.1 central speaker.
I googled it, and i only found results where the users wanted to get rid of that.

Thanks,
Alex.

Answer:How do i use both headphones and speakers at the same time?

If you are using HDMI for the TV, you can only have one default audio playback device. Either the HDMI output or your "speakers" (PC sound card) which would allow you to use headphones.

This comes up frequently and I don't recall any posted way to get around this.

Hey i have a CMI 8738 PCI 6.1 sound card, and I also have a AC'97 onboard card (disabled at the moment).

Before i got my PCI card, I was able to use my AC'97 with a headset, (aud_out) a mic (mic_in) and a 2.1 sound system (aux_out). The beauty of this is that i can turn the speakers off (because they have a separate power source), and just use the headset when i need to be quiet. Or i can use the speakers when i'm listening and can be loud.

My mic port shorted out, so i got the new PCI sound card.

Now i'm wondering if I can do the same thing on the new sound card. I'm afraid to test it since I don't know the reason my old card shorted out.

I'm using Xear 3D sound with 3-D CMI Audio Controller.

I tried re installing my drivers and all but still the same issue. Kindly let me know any other solution for it.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.,..

Answer:Why are the speakers and headphones playing at the same time?

Check for a setting in the audio. Many, have an audio configuration panel and an option to mute the speakers when the headphone is connected or not.

I don't have IDT so I can't say exactly where that is at.

Another option, if it worked yesterday and not today, use the System Restore and restore the PC back to an available restore date when it did work correctly. (System restore will not delete any user data). System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

Does anyone know how to stop this? It was working fine yesterday....

I use Windows 7.

Answer:Headphones and speakers playing at the same time?

Hello OctoberOwl and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since everything was working fine yesterday I'd try using system restore to return my computer to a date/time prior to when the audio problem first started.

System Restore

If system restore doesn't help you might have to go into control panel > sounds to see what your default settings are. There are several previous forum threads that provide possible solutions. For example:

Speakers and headphones play at the same time?

Selecting headphones or speakers as default

And a couple of threads from the Microsoft Answers forum:

not realy unless you're prepared to modify the headset plug.

the plug on the computer has a switch that operates when the headphone jack

So, my problem is that both the speakers and the headphones play in my HP laptop at the same time.

When I go into my playback devices I have three options:

1. ATI HDMI Output
2. Speakers and headphones (same device)
3. headphones

When my headphones are connected the third still shows them as unconnected but sound will play through both the speakers and the headphones.

I am wondering if there's any way that I can fix this so that I can have sound play out of just one or the other.

I have tried the following things:

-system restore
-updating my sound drivers

Thanks for any future help.

Answer:Headphones and speakers play at the same time

With no system specs specified we can't say exactly. But, in newer HD audio sound systems they autodetect when something is plugged in. If you have one of these devices it is either the driver or there is a hardware problem with the sound chip.

Hi Shabirah1997 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Step 1: You may try to set default initially to get back the previous settings. Similar steps on this article .
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Playback tab > Set Default at the bottom > Apply

Step 2 oing a reset on command prompt :
Click on start and search for CMD , right click to run as administrator . type net stop AudioSrv
then  net start AudioSrv

Step 3 : Jumping back to previous working date with System Restore

Step 4: Rollback / Uninstall and Reinstall audio drivers from D:/Lenovo /Drivers folder or download from support site.

See which one works for you best.
Update us.

Hi I have got a windows 8 64 bit laptop and just the past couple of days iv had this problem when I plug my headphones in I am still hearing sound coming from my laptop speakers and from my headphones at the same time. At first I thought this was a problem with my headphones so I decided to try different ones but I still had the same problem ( and yes the headphones are fully plugged in). I have also tried doing a system restore but that didn't help either . It would be much appreciated if anyone could help me solve this problem as it is really annoying!. Thanks in advance

Realtek has an HD Control Panel and there is an option to mute the speakers when a headset is connected or as yours is doing not mute the speakers. I don't have anything except Realtek but I know some of the other sound hardware's have similar settings.

The Realtek is located in Control Panel/Hardware and Sound.

Hi there
This sometimed happens with Realtek HD sound cards when the sound card is integrated into the Mobo.

Download and re-install the driver AND HD audio application.

(even if your sound card is not a REALTEK one I'd still re-install the driver (from the MOBO driver set / sound card CD) AND THE APPLICATION -- most of the sound card driver software usually has an application as well (such as a mixer. graphic equalizer etc).

Hello, from a few days I've a problem with audio devices:  when I connect any headphones to the jack on the left side of the laptop, the sound keeps going out from the  speakers. So, I can hear from headphones and speakers in the same time.  I tried everything: update all drivers, uninstall and reinstall them, uninstal and reinstall DOLBY ADVANCED AUDIO v2 program (which is supposed to control audio on the pc), update IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (I think this is the sound card?). Nothing worked. I have two  devices available in "Audio" window:  "Speakers / headphones" and "Headphiones communications" (I'm translating from italian Windows OS). Selecting the first, speakers and headphones work simultaneously. Selecting the second, no sound comes, neither from speakers or headphones. I think I tried everything. What to do? I don't even know why this problem occurred!   Thanks for the help

Answer:Headphones and speakers playing at the same time

It would appear from your description that you have a mechanical fault with the headphone jack. When you insert the plug into the socket there is a contact that is switched telling the system that something has been inserted into the socket - this signal is used to switch off the speakers.

As this is a laptop it is probably beyond most PC users to make a repair, although this is possible, I would suggest you contact your local PC repair outfit who will normally be able to replace the socket for a reasonable cost

hi

Whenever i want to play music or watch a movie in a public place, ill put in some headphones. but right now, whenever i plug them in, i get sound from both my headphones and my laptop speakers. It used to switch automatically from speakers to headphones but it wont anymore.

I have Realtek HD Audio with Vista 64 bit.

Is there any way to get it back to the way it was?

Answer:Laptop speakers and Headphones at same time

Go to Control Panel - Sound - and explore all possible settings ("configure" and "properties").

I think the switch is a part of the connection, and something in the headphone jack is loose or broken, but it's worth looking for a setting. I didn't find any such setting on my Vista, but I have a different sound card.

I'm wondering if instead of buying a splitter, I can just have the headphone and speaker playing at the same time.

I have a stereo system that sounds better than the pc speakers, but the bass isn't as good as the pc speaker's subwoofer. All i want to do is be able to plug in the stereo system into the front headphone slot while having the pc speakers plugged into the back speaker slot and be able to play both at the same time.

What would be even better, but probably not possible, is if I could hook the pc speaker's subwoofer up to the stereo system but thats probably a lot of trouble..

Is there a way that I could make the 2 pc speakers and the 2 stereo system speakers be recognized by the computer as a 4 speaker system? again, probably impossible or too much trouble.

Answer:How can i play through headphones and speakers at the same time?

You plug the stereo system into the rear channel and the PC speakers to the front channel (or vice versa) - that's what i have set up and it works just fine.

You need to fiddle with your soundcard settings to get it to run in 4 speaker mode.

Answer:i have no sound coming from my headphones

Do you currently have sound on your computer? What is the make and model# of your computer? Where are you plugging your headphones in? Plug them into the Back Green Audio port out of the back of the computer. Unless you have audio ports in the front.
Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager are there any yellow flags next to any devices? If so these devices need to have drivers installed. go to the manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in your service tag# or your make and model # and download the audio driver and any other drivers for your computer.
If you do have sound through your speakers, but you do not have the speaker Icon in your system tray in the lower right hand; Take note of the Sound device in the Device Manager (RealTek or whatever) Go to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices. Put a check box in Put Volume Icon in System Tray. Go to the Audio tab make sure the default play back device is the same sound card in the Device Manager. Go to the Volume tab, make sure the volume is all the way up. Go to the Advanced button make sure nothing is muted. Go Speaker SettingsAdvanced choose Headphones.

Have just plugged my headphones into my laptop but the sound still comes out of the laptops internal speakers. This has only just started and I just wondered if I have changed a setting accidently could someone advise. My laptop is a Asus K73E

Answer:No sound coming from headphones

Normally, when you plug an external speaker into the internal socket it breaks a physical connection stopping the internal speakers from functioning. It is not a software feature. Your headphone is not working suggesting to me that the plus is not going fully into the socket, which is also not allowing that physical connection to the internal speakers to get broken.

I have a secondary monitor that has speakers, and it's speakers connect through the headphone jack. So I would like to use the secondary monitor's external speakers, but I would also like the internal speakers in the laptop to work as well, to kinda make some version of surround sound, and just to generally boost the volume of my system. Is there a hardware or software change that I can make to make this work? I have a microphone and headphone jack in the front of the laptop, and in the back I have a green and blue jack. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you need more information I"d be more than happy to help in any way, thank you,

Answer:Would like for BOTH Headphones and Internal Speakers to work at same time

Is there a way to tell if this is the cause of the problem? I messed around with all of my audio options, tried upgrading the driver, I've hooked the external speakers into every port available, and i reinstalled the monitor software thinking that maybe they had an application for it. I don't know what else my options are, but I find it weird that there isn't some kind of work around or registry change that can be made. Thank you once again for any help,

I bought a new laptop, and when I plugged my headphones in, my laptop wasn't recognizing them. It was seeing them as a mic and sound just kept playing over the speaker.

I messed around and now I can plug headphones in and they are working but my speakers are now playing at the same time that my headphones are.

My headphones still aren't popping up in the devices part of my sound manager.

I've already updated my drivers as much as they can be. I have realtek HD audio manager.

I use a bluetooth speaker (Tendqa) as well as a pair of wired headphones on my computer (XP). Until yesterday, I could get audio output on both simultaneously (I know for sure because many times I forgot that the speakers were on and I'd start playing a game and the sounds were broadcast through the speakers and I didn't realize it right away because I had the headset on).

Anyway, as of this morning, it's an either/or thing with music (played via Pandora or WMP). I can get system sounds through the headset (such as the audio demo through Realtek) but no music while the bluetooth speakers are connected.

The only thing I can think that I did in the interim is install Adobe Acrobat Reader X. But I restored my computer to yesterday's settings (before the Reader install) and it didn't solve the problem. I even checked my windows registry to make sure none of the Reader X registry entries were there. Nada.

Can anyone think of anything else I can try?

Barbara

Hi guys,

I was wondering if there is a way to play sounds using both the built in speaker and the headphones at the same time?

I am using an Acer aspire 4736Z with windows vista home basic.

Answer:How to play on laptop speakers and headphones at the same time

its impossible technically.

Hello,Sorry if this is in the wrong place, as you can tell, I'm a newbie. Anyways, I'm having a bit of a problem with my headphones and speakers. It all started around a year ago. All of a sudden, my speakers stopped working, however, the headphones continued to work fine. Then, out of nowhere a few months later, my speakers magically began working again. Only problem is, my computer doesn't seem to recognize that I have headphones plugged in, so the speakers and headphones play sound at the same time. This is a major inconvenience because I like to listen to music and watch movies, but can't do so without disturbing others anymore. There might be something lodged in the headphone jack, as the headphones don't seem to go all the way in, but it still goes in enough to play sound through them. I've tried disabling the speakers themselves, but it blocks the sound from the headphones too.So basically what I'm asking is, is there some way I can 'fool' the computer into thinking I've got headphones plugged in so I don't have to run both at the same time? Or any other way to fix it that doesn't involve high-cost repairs? Any help here would be so greatly appreciated!ThanksEDIT: Forgot to mention, I'm using a Gateway NV79 laptop running on Windows 7. It's a little over a year old.

Answer:Headphones/Speakers Problem (Working at the Same Time)

The laptop has only one port used for both the Headphone and External Speakers. Have you tried those cheap earphones for testing?

Ok i am back again with a problem, actually not a problem. Do any one of u have any idea how to enable my laptop speakers and headphones at the same time. I mean both should make sound simultaneously.

Answer:How to enable my laptop speakers and headphones at the same time

I don't believe it is possible. As far as I know, the sound card can only output one channel at a time. I don't know to much about the specifics of audio cards so I am assuming.

In the Realtek Panel, Click on the "Device Advanced Settings" on the upper right of that panel. The option is in the Advanced Settings.

I have a toshiba a205-s5800, it is just out of warranty. all of a sudden the sound has stopped working. I have reinstalled the sound driver, still no luck.

Answer:No sound played trough speakers but sound works from headphones

If you are not able to listening any sound even error beep, then it seems hardware fault inside your system.
It may speaker goes faulty. You should consult your computer hardware vendor.

I know many people here have the same problem but till now I have not found any solution.
My soundcard is a Realtek. After reinstalling Windows 7 I have no sound out from my headphones while I have some from my speakers.

As soon as I connect the headphones, the Realtek manager appears and I choose headphone but if I press the "Test" button there is no sound and no sound if I play music.
Any des/re-installation of the drivers does not fix.

I have to mention that my headphones work perfectly with Ubuntu. So the jack entry is good.
In "Playback devices" from the sound control icon, the "Speakers" entry has "Set default" in grey.

Thanks a lot for any help.

Regards.

Answer:Satellite C660 - No sound from headphones but sound from speakers - Win7

> As soon as I connect the headphones, the Realtek manager appears and I choose headphone but if I press the "Test" button there is no sound and no sound if I play music.

Go to Control Panel -> Realtek HD audio manager

Here you should see the tab ?speakers?. Click on the yellow folder sign in the right upper corner.
Ensure that the option ?disable front panel jack detection? is NOT checked.
Furthermore check the option at the bottom called ?Enable auto popup dialog???

By the way: in control panel -> sound -> playback tab click right and mark the two options ?show disabled devices?, ?show hidden devices??
Now you should also see the headphones jack. In case it was disabled, you could make it active.

I have a problem with audio on system speakers Inspiron 13 5368 2-in-1. I have exhausted all my ideas.
The audio is fine through plugged in headset but through system speakers it starts loud and fades away to very faint audio coming from two speakers.Could this be some type of Auto volume control? This problem exists with ITunes with local media, DIRECTV, Slacker, YouTube.
This has existed through several W10 upgrades. I am on the latest W10. No updates available. I have used Dell Auto Update and verified through the website no other drivers are missing or outdated
With the deal Audio I restored to default, disabled equalizer, audio and microphone enhancement. No luck
I have removed audio devices from device manager rebooted to same results. Any other ideas?

Dell Auto Update you're referring to is Dell Support Assist? If no, I suggest you diagnose Audio with Dell Support Assist. Most Dell systems have Support Assist pre-installed. You can check by typing Support Assist onto [Cortana] search box or right click windows logo and then click on 'Programs & Features'. If Support Assist isn't installed on system then I suggest you click on the link below and stroll down to 'Download Now'.

My R5 Aurora not getting sound from both sides of the headphones.  Seems to have happened after a windows 10 update. re-installed Realtek drivers. Did not fix. Headphones with a USB connection will work fine. Headphones with "stereo" jack do not work on one side. Tried different headphones with a stereo jack and neither work. Both of those headphones work on a different computer. Sounds like it would be the jack on the computer, but it does the same thing if you use front or back jack. Has anyone come across this problem? It appears that Windows is canceling the other channel. The sound settings show the balance to be the same on both sides. There is no way in windows or Alienware Audio to increase the sound on just one side. Thanks.

Hey guys, so i've had windows 10 since about a week after its release, and today I was just browsing on youtube, watching some videos, when all of a sudden the sound goes out, and I can't hear any sound from my computer with or without headphones. So I googled the problem and what did what all the threads told me to do. I ended up reinstalling my audio driver. Now i'm left with the problem. When I try to listen to any sound its all muddy and muffled, but only on my headphones. If I disconnect them then the sound is fine, so it is only a problem with the headphone jack and I know its not my headphones because I tested it on another device and it works fine. Please help me fix this problem

I have a HP Pavillion G6 with Windows 7 (64-bit). The issue came randomly one day a couple of months ago, I turned on my laptop and there was no sound. I tried headphones, no sound. When I tried hooking up my laptop to my tv with a hdmi cord, it did work. I've tried re-downloading, uninstallling, updating, rolling back every driver I could find for my audio. I even restored my computer to factory settings. I am really out of ideas here, please help!

Hi everyone,
Sound is only coming out of my left speaker, the secondary speaker (the one without hte volume button, headphone slots etc.) Wiggling the cable used to make it work again but now it just doesn't work at all it seems. Is there anything I can do about it?
My speakers are Logitech Z323

Answer:Sound only coming out of one speaker, comes out of both headphones

Try making and un-making the connection and even a little blast of compressed air to try cleaning the receptacle. Does the other channel come on when you wiggle the plug?

I have a Satallite L500. I am having problems with my sound.
When I insert my jacks for the headphones and play something, sound comes out of both the headphones as well as the laptop speakers.
I want to turn off the laptop speakers but still receive sound from the headphones.
There is a horrible "echo" when both headphones and speakers are on at the same time. I am new to Vista and for the life of I can't figure out what's going on.

When I first got the laptop everything worked fine. I then bought some speakers for those times I wanted to listen to external speakers.
I would unplug the headphone jacks and plug in the speaker jack.
Ever since doing this, whenever I plug in the headphones the laptop speakers are also playing.

Also, when I first got the laptop whenever I would plug in the headphone jacks, a message would pop up on the screen indicating that the microphone and audio jacks were detected. I no longer get this message.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanx

Answer:Satellite L500: headphones and speakers play at the same time

hi tango123,
i think some sort of "confusion" is in the registry.
just deinstall the sounddriver
after that reboot and reinstall (look for the current driver at toshibas driver downloadsite)
make sure you use a stereo jack!

for the echo issue try to mute the mic to test.

Hi there, As the subject line reads I am hoping to enable playback through both the headphone and internal speakers on the E93z All in One unit I have. Is there is currently a way to do this with the Lenovo HD Audio software for the Realtek system? It detects the headphones and does the typical shut off of the internal speakers however no option to enable playback through both seems to exist. Running Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. I cannot enable stereo mix (by right clicking in the playback area of the sound settings in Windows) to try and come up with a work around. I have tried re-installing the drivers and not luck with more options to do this.I have tried un-installing the Lenovo HD audio software and still no luck using the vanilla Windows 7 software. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
