Preferred Solution: Dell vostro 5459 with preinstalled win10 downgrade issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a problem.I hear high-frequency sound (irritable squeak) that produces a voltage converter during the hight-load on the processor.
Can I get a repair under warranty?
(Laptop  have 3 years warranty.)

I like to suggest you run the Diagnostic tool on your computer to find any hardware problem that might be causing the squeak.

I have three questions.

1. My WiFi has weak connection (I compare to my 8 years old Toshiba laptop). Even a chair between Dell Vostro 5459 and a router can weaken the connection noticeably! There's no noticeable difference in case of the old Toshiba.
What should I do about it? Is it a hardware problem?

2. The fan is launching every 2-5 minutes and is making noise therefore, even though the usage of CPU is at the level of like 1-5% because I'm only reading a PDF file and writing summaries in Libre Office (I have Ubuntu OS).
I cannot specify what piece of hardware is actually heating, but I can say it is placed somewhere under "1" - "7" keys.
Why is it so? I saw two other topics here about this problem but there were no answers! Please, don't ignore your clients!
Btw the fan starts even when I'm just in BIOS Setup not even changing anything there.

3. I bought my Dell Vostro 5459 on 28th of June 2016 but when I typed the service tag into this page, it says that the warranty started on 26th of March 2016. Could it be that I am not the first owner of this particular laptop?

I have a suspicion that Dell Vostro 5459 somehow turned out to be a lemon and Dell company tries to hide it. But there are some people who bought it, please help us with this laptop's issues :(
I only want to add that besides these problems that I have mentioned, this laptop is very fine, I would be so happy with it, if the WiFi was ok and that fan worked properly! It... Read more

Have seen several posts but no solutions. After a windows 10 update a couple of months ago, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. It recognises me but then says "your credentials could not be confirmed".
Microsoft have sent endless messages blaming the driver, the scanner etc etc. Finally they say it is an issue with the update, but they have not solution at this time. Good old Microsoft and their helpful updates, which you cannot avoid.
Anyone have the same problem and how did you fix it??

I have done the custom settings for battery from dell power management. I have set that the battery should start charging when it is at 50% and stop charging at 80%. When the battery has charged 80%.It has stopped charging. But the discharging of the battery is not happening itself. I have to remove the ac power so that the laptop should start using battery instead of ac power. The battery should self discharge when it reaches 80% and start charging when it reaches 50%. which is not happening currently. Can any suggest any solution.

Answer:Dell Power manager Lite battery discharge issue -Dell vostro 5568

The system will use AC power in preference to battery if the adapter is connected.  If you want the system to run on battery, you must disconnect the adapter.

If the partitions have not been changed, the Recovery partition should still exist. How to get to that would depend on the Make/Model of the system.

It is a Dell Vostro 200 running Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit with SP3, originally came with SP2. I have been having this issue for a few months now and I can't seem to find any topics related to my specific issue, it took me by surprise one day because its never done this before and I think this all started in the past three months of last year. When I press the power button it will start to boot up but then the power light will turn amber and it will completely shut off but then it starts up again, it does this a total of two times and then by the third time it will boot up and beep once, then I can access my desktop and it all works fine. But when I restart, it will do the same exact thing but only once, and then boots up but won't beep. I know its not over heating because I clean it well with compressed air and check it with Speccy, it also doesn't restart suddenly while I'm using it. I don't know what could be causing this, if it was one of the speakers that fell on the tower and knocked something loose or the power cord is going bad. I'm not a computer expert, I know a few things here and there but I've never worked inside of one, this isn't so much a problem as it is a nuisance, its just frustrating that I can't find any topic about it.

Answer:Dell Vostro 200 - keyboard & mouse issue

Hi Lee247,Thanks for posting. It sounds like your USB drivers have not completely installed.  Be sure you are plugging your keyboard and mouse into the USB ports on the back side of the CPU and not the front. If neither are working, you will need to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them.

maildangky142,Adjust your power settings. Right click on your desktop, then go to personalize. Then go to screen savers, and click on power settings. This is where you can adjust how long it takes for the computer to sleep, just change it to never and save the changes Also, right click desktop and choose Display Settings, then choose Change Advanced Power Settings.  Click on hard drive and change the sleep settings. You can also click on the sleep section and change them to never sleep as well.

Ok ive scoured forums and websites but havent found my exact answer to this issue. I got a vostro 1015 free with a bit of a cracked screen(nothing to bad i cant work around till i order new one) but i installed win 7 ultamite and updated fully. Started setting it up for use with other 3rd party apps(mainly trying to setup android x86 through virtual box manager) when at first started blinking on charger led next day and wouldnt power up. Well finally got it to power but then sense it has been auto cutting stright off. And now it wants to boot to no screen sometimes others it boots up but post takes forever most times. Then other times it takes about 2 min before it even reacts to hitting the power button on.But almost every time it ether goes blank screen then powers off a couple min later or just shuts off entirely. Lcd test passed, cant complete diagnostics couse it cuts off right at end of mem testing so far. Ive systematicly taken ram,hdd,wifi,cd/dvd drive out and tried each time to boot. No success. Rarly can get a few sec in. WIndows before kill. Also i am aware i do have faulty battery(will replace) but i have also done these tasks of troubleshooting with and without battery and with a seprete charger. Any advice or idea i havent tried is much welcome....atm i have it dissassembled and checking all connectors. Also the power button broke off ribbin but got a spare to replace it.

Answer:Dell vostro 1015 power\graphics issue?

Sounds like it has some serious issues, you probably have a motherboard issue and it is taking a long time to pass post or isn't passing because there is something wrong and it can't pass so it won't move on.  Sounds like you are going to have to replace it.  All the stuff that you are mentioning that has happened sounds like a failing component on the motherboard that finally just totally failed and now Intermittently works but doesn't stay working very long.  Everything that is removable you have tried to boot with it not connected and still having the issue, then there is something on the board itself.

The lights keep turned off and its just that. I press the power button and the black screen appear, the cooler doesn't start and the computer don't do anything, so guys please help me! Or just tell me what is the problem, then, i can explain what happen for the client! As usual, thank you guys, love you all! <3

Answer:Dell Vostro 3450 Black Screen Issue

When you press the power button, does the system remain turned on or does it go off automatically after a few seconds?
Does the system overheat? Were there any bluescreens / system crashes? Does this happen with or without the adapter connected?
Please check if there is any damage on the machine. Check if all the ports on the machine are fine or misaligned. Sometimes if the pins in the USB ports are touching each other, they are known to cause many issues on the machine.
Disconnect the adapter and battery and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to release any static power. Then try connecting with the adapter only / battery only.
Press and hold the fn key + power button to turn on the system and it should initiate the diagnostics - check for any possible beep codes.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info -
Download the service manual here - and remove the memory modules / HDD / ODD and try powering on the system and check if it works.
If nothing works, I would suspect a motherboard failure.

I'm not a techie, but am about to buy a new Dell XPS8500 that comes with Windows 7 Home Premium installed. It will replace an old Dell Dimension XPS running Windows XP. I want to retain my XP on the new machine so that the look-amd-feel are unchanged, and would pay for a local firm to implement the OS downgrade, as well as porting over everything that is on my current C: drive. Advice and pitfalls?

Answer:Downgrade preinstalled Windows 7 to XP

Dell didn't write drivers for Windows XP for new computers. I doubt you'll be able to find compatible ones. Why do you want to downgrade in the first place? You've been helped by a 14 year old.

SO after 10 months of windows 10, I can honestly say that this new OS despite being great, is bottlenecking my laptop.

To start up my laptop, it will take 15 mins, after I have fixed all the problems that windows 10 has giving me.
I have been ragging my heels to revert back to windows 7, as I really do love windows 10. but when i cannot run simple programs and despite have a 64bit program and laptop, I can only run 32 bit programs.

My laptop can pre-installed with win 7.
I do not have the recovery option to revert back to windows 7 in the settings.
I do not have a windows 7 disc to go back to.

Can someone please assist me in making sure I can go back, begrudgingly I might add, to windows 7, so I can at least open 2 tabs in my internet program. I cant even open google because it strains my laptop.

I need to downgrade and in my search for a way to return to windows 7 Ive come across these downgrade rights for windows 8 professional. My thoughts are to upgrade to pro using my school email for $40 then downgrading to 7 but I dont see mention of this option to downgrade anywhere. This seems like my cheapest option, otherwise I will have to buy a copy of 7 brand new and do a clean install. Is the option to downgrade only available on machines with Windows 8 Pro preinstalled, and if so why???
...and yes, im sure I want to go back to 7 as the programs I use most frequently for school and are given to me by my university only work on windows 7.
This is the link to downgrade rights:
Understanding downgrade rights

Answer:Need to downgrade windows 8 non-pro that was preinstalled

i'm not sure about the downgrade options, it was usually part of some systems that came with 7 pro to downgrade to xp for business reasons, but that didn't come with every 7 pro system.

buying windows 7 may be your only option.

My new T430s has Win 7 Pro preinstalled via downgrade rights in Windows 8 Pro.  I assume this means the recovery media on the machine is for Win 7(?).    Since the machine apparently has a Win 8 Pro license that has been downgraded, what is the procedure to follow to upgrade the existing license to Win 8?   I tried searching Support (which hasn't worked much of the PM) to locate instruction for upgrading a machine that already has a Win 8 license, yet whose preinstall was downgraded to Win 7 Pro.  I'm not sure whether the COA is in BIOS - and if it isn't, will these machines be unable to access the Lenovo tools from the Windows Store? I would sure appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.   Thanks.

First time poster, long time lurker (even before my join date). Before posting, I would like to thank this forum for solving many of the problems I have had with my laptops and desktops over the past year. Usually, I search and find answers and trial and error till my issue is fixed.

So a very big thank you to all the members here who have unknowingly helped me in the past.

Now, onto my issue:

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 that is experiencing extremely slow boot times (3-5 minutes). When I press the power button, the laptop flashes the Dell logo, the loading bar fills (2-3 seconds) and then the screen goes blank and there is a blinking cursor at the top left of the screen. The laptop stays this way for about 3-5 minutes before loading my operating system.

I have ruled out the hard drive by pulling hard drives from my other laptops and booting to them. The issue persists no matter which drive I use. It will still boot to the operating system, it just takes 3-5 minutes.

Following that, I have taken the laptop apart, cleaned it using a can of compressed air, checked the heat sink for thermal compound wear, pulled and reseated the RAM from both locations, pulled and reseated other connectors such as keyboard, monitor etc.

So far, nothing has improved the boot times. I have run out of options and even after searching this forum I still haven't found this particular issue listed or solved. Most blinking cursor issues I came across were machines that refused to boot into th... Read more

I understand there might be a down grade option to go from the 8 that came with my desktop to an equivalent 7 version. I have already completed this task using one of my 3 family pack home premium licenses but I now think I didn't need to use that and I might get a better version if I do the offered downgrade (if there is one!).

Anyhow, I have a gateway cheapo (really, really cheap! 169 with a 6gb ram windows license 500gb hard drive I thought it was free!) desktop that came preinstalled with Win 8. I upgraded to 8.1 but could not get over what scheit 8 is and decided to go to seven. While I despise MS I find their products somewhat good; but this 8 thing is bad. Simple. Yeah, I know. There are a lot of folk who actually like 8. Not me.

So at least I recorded my 8 code. Does any one have any experience or knowledge about the options. I did some research to see if it has been done but none of my searches of this forum turned up any identical efforts. Someone tried to do a laptop but they were not clear on the downgrade path or source. Thanks.

When I ordered my T440s in March of this year I had the option of ordering it with either Windows 7 Professional or Windows 8  Prof or Windows 8.1 Professional in addition to the regular version of Win8.  Each of the Prof. versions cost $50 more. I had read somewhere that if I ordered it with Win7 Prof. that I could at some time later install Windows 8 Prof. since I was getting Win7 through downgrade rights.  I paid $50 extra to get Win7 Professional rather than the standard version of Win8. I just ran a configuration for a T440s today and noticed that the choices of operating system shows two Windows 7 options. Both cost $50.  One is listed as Win7 while the other is listed as Win7 through downgrade rights.  There was no two choices in March and even back then I had read that ordering Win7 was through downgrade. So my questions are:1) can I switch to Win8 Professional without any additional cost as I had understood? 2) if so how do I change over to Win8 Professional?  I created a set of recovery disc for win7 but I don't know if it contains Win8 Prof. part of the reason I'm asking now (more immediately) is that I had ordered the 500GB HDD with OPAL capability on it with the intention of implementing hardware encryption.  I'm having problems finding any documentation or instructions on how to implement the hardware encryption (thanks a lot Lenovo) AND in searching the Internet it "appears" that I would need a version... So, my issue that ive looked everywhere for a solution to is this.  I was about to give this laptop to someone and I reformatted the hard drive to clean it up before doing so.  After this I went to dells site and loaded up the drivers for this machine.  All is fine up till this point.  Then I updated the bios to the newest version a12, and all went fine.

Well, later that day I needed to unplug the laptop and go to a different room and It just turned off after I unplugged it.  It wouldnt turn on with battery power either.  Plugged it back in and it loads fine but the battery is stuck on 36 percent charge and says not charging.  Now im getting a message saying the battery needs to be replaced as well, which is *** because I know that the battery was working just fine before this day.  Not only that why wont a battery with 36 percent charge turn on the laptop?  Its got the flashing red battery symbol when powered on with the ac adapter but without the computer on, but still plugged in, the battery doesnt charge or have any lights.

I have already tried the uninstalling of the acpi trick, as well as the taking the battery out while its running, or taking it out purging the power and reseating.  Ive tried all the common tricks to no avail.  Not sure whats going on but I know this battery was good, and it still says 36 percent but wont charge and wont power the laptop on.  Hope someone can help.

Thanks Gary

Answer:DELL VOSTRO 3500 BATTERY ISSUE (not charging and wont power on computer with charge) HELP!

First check:  make sure the BIOS (F2 at powerup) recognizes the AC adapter.  If it does not, the battery will not charge.
If the AC adapter is not recognized, try another Dell OEM adapter.  If that doesn't solve the problem, replace the DC jack:
And if that doesn't solve the problem, replace the mainboard.
If the AC adapter IS recognized, but the battery will not charge, unplug the system, remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Try again -- if the battery still won't charge, odds are the battery itself is bad.
If the battery is original to the system, it's about four years old - well past its expected lifespan.

Dear Members,
I have been facing the issue of frequent wifi disconnection for the past 9-10 months.
The problem get sorted out temporarily after running netsh command or after resetting WIFI adapter or rolling back to an older version. However, this never has been a permanent solution. The problem further aggravated after Window 10 Anniversary update in July 2016. I am hardly using my WIFI after this update.
I use a Dell Vostro 3446 laptop with DW -1704 WLAN Card. The part number of WLAN card is 0R4GW0 - 73614
OS: Windows 10 Home, Single Language Edition with 64 bit. I upgraded from Windows 8.1
What I have already tried doing -
Network adapter reset using feature provided in window 10 and also by running netsh command in Command Prompt
Have tried rolling back the driver but it works temporarily
Have tried installing/re-installing drivers listed on Dell support page of my PC, however, every driver shows error after installation.
Tried windows troubleshooter - this used to fix my problem after November update but after March updates it didn't resolve my disconnection issue
Have tried using almost every suggestion provided on various MS and Dell Community Forums.
I also unchecked the setting of 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' in Power Management of the wireless network adapter. And, optimised the wireless settings as suggested by Dell but none worked.
Unfortunately, I have run out of Dell Warranty Support, hence, can't contact them.

I have a Dell Inspiron 14 5459, core i7, 4GB RAM,
The laptop runs Ubuntu GNOME 17.04.
I always used to get random full freezes and I had to do a forced shutdown.
Most of the times the laptop doesn't turn on, the screen is blank and the power indicator flashes like so:
Two times Orange and four times White. This keeps on going until I turn off the laptop.
I had to wait a while (maybe half a hour) only then it will turn on normally.
Recently, when the laptop froze, I couldn't turn it on even after 12 hours (happened at night, tired to turn on in the morning), I waited for 40 minutes - 1 hour but it still didn't turn on, the power indicator kept on flashing.
So I tried to do a hard reset by removing the AC adapter, battery and the button cell and I pressed and hold the power button for 1 minute or so.
After putting back all the things and when I tried to turn it on, the laptop still shows a blank screen, but the fan goes full speed and the power indicator flashes two times orange and four times white. I tried may ways like AC power only or battery powered only but ended up with the same result.
Can someone tell me what the flashing power indicator means? And how to fix it?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 14 5459 not starting up

Hi JohnSnow1800,
Thank you for writing to us.
The system LED on this system is not a diagnostics indicator. What is the status of the CAPS Lock, when you press it when the system power light is flashing? Can you try to run the on-board diagnostics <F12> or boot into the BIOS <F2>?

Hi all,
I am looking to upgrade my ram from 4GB to 8GB. I downloaded an app called CPU-Z to check the RAM specs. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5459 (Not vostro)
Laptop Specs
CPU : Intel Core i7-6500U
GPU : Intel(R) HD Graphics 520
GPU (dedicated) : AMD Radeon(TM) R5 M335 4GB
RAM : 4GB (1 x 4GB)
My question is, what is the type of my RAM> Is it DDR3,or something else because my BIOS says it's LPDDR3 SDRAM and I searched up my model online and it is DDR3L, but from CPU-Z it's DDR3
Update : Nevermind I solved it myself, it is DDR3L

I was browsing the "Understanding Downgrade Rights" page at Microsoft, and there is no mention that I can see of any downgrade rights for Windows 8 - only the Windows 8 Pro edition is mentioned.

Understanding downgrade rights

Downgrade rights offer a practical solution. The customer can:Purchase a PC with Windows 8 Pro preinstalled.Downgrade?at no additional cost?to Windows 7 Professional.Move to Windows 8 Pro at the appropriate time. The system is licensed and ready for conversion.
Windows and Windows Server software eligible for downgrade rights
Windows 8
Windows 7
Windows Server 2008

OEM versions of Windows 8 eligible for downgradeWindows 8 Pro includes downgrade rights to:

Windows 7 ProfessionalWindows Vista Business

Downgrade rights process
To downgrade Microsoft Windows or Windows Server software, customers must:

Purchase a PC preinstalled with Windows or Windows Server software.Accept the End User Software Licence Terms.Perform the downgrade or authorise a third party to perform it on their behalf.

Does this mean that Windows 8 (Core) preinstalled by an OEM has no Downgrade rights?

When the Downgrade Rights details and FAQ page is read, things become more confusing as it seems to shift to OEM System Builder installations:

Answer:No downgrade rights in Preinstalled OEM Windows 8 (Core)?

Hi there
seems clear to me

screenshot enc -- and English wasn't my ist language -- however I can't see what's the problem here.

W8 PRO ===>W7 PRO or Vista PRO business edition -- what's so complicated about that.

they won't downgrade a non W8 Pro to a W7 Pro -- why on earth would they.

If you've W8 PRO on your machine you should be eligible for the downgrade. What happens when you try and download it.

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 5459 that I also want to use the display for my laptop.  I have the HDMI cable plugged into the docking station and also into the bottom HDMI In port but I can't seem to figure out how to get the Dell to change display to the HDMI In.  As a test I've been able to successfully connect to the HDMI on a small TV that I have.  How do I get to change?

Can someone explain what are the differences, advantages, and disadvantages of choosing between the following 2 Win 7 Pro - Options when choosing the custom configuration on the Leneov website for pourchasing the T540p ? Windows 7 Professional 64 Windows 7 Professional 64 preinstalled through downgrade rights in Windows 8.1 Pro 64

Answer:T540p - Purchase Choice - Win 7 vs Win 7 preinstalled through downgrade rights in Win 8.1 Pro 64

Here's my understanding:
Windows 7 Professional 64: old school - Win 7 installed and CoA sticker with key in the battery compartment..
Windows 7 Professional 64 preinstalled through downgrade rights in Windows 8.1 Pro 64:  No Win7 CoA sticker.  Win 8.1 key in BIOS. Win 7 installed.  Usually Win 8 media included in the box.  (I've seen reports that it sometimes wasn't included - verify that before purchasing).
The advantage of Win 7 old-school is that the CoA key can be used when doing a clean Win 7 install from Microsoft media.  Advantage of the downgrade setup is that you also have Win 8.1 if you later decide to change OS.  Disadvantage is that doing a clean Win 7 install requires some strange gyrations:  Understanding downgrade rights
If you do go with the downgrade option, please make Win 7 recovery media when you receive your laptop.  Otherwise if you switch to 8.1 at some point you won't have a way to go back to 7 easily.

I only saw this question asked once and the answer was kind of vague. Here's the thing, I bought a t500 with XP preinstalled through downgrade rights of windows 7 professional.  I am trying to figure out how to upgrade back to windows 7.  There were no CDs included so I do not have a copy of the program.  Tech support has not been helpful.  It was suggested that I restore the hard drive from the partition, but does the partition contain XP or windows 7.  Don't know.  Thanks for any advice.

Answer:Problem upgrading to windows 7 from preinstalled XP via downgrade rights

Hi there I'm in the same boat. sells the Lenovo SL510 with WinXP preinstalled and includes a Win7 DVD, and I was hoping that the T400 with the OS downgrade would be similar.  That model at Frys indicates that, for at least 1 product, Lenovo does offer exactly what we want. The restore partition seems to only have WinXP stuff.  I accidentally clobbered the WinXP partition while installing a Linux partition, so I got to try out the recovery procedure from the recovery partition.  It performs a regular WinXP install, and then adds the Lenovo stuff.  Takes well over an hour if you include downloading the 68+ Windows updates again. We might be in somekind of no-man's land with regards to Microsoft Product Keys.  The laptop has a CoA with a Win 7 Product Key; is that key good for activating XP if I chose to run a virtual machine under Linux? Or do I need a "real" XP license for a virtual machine under Linux? Tech Support reported that the T400 s/n I provided was a laptop that shipped with XP installed, and not Win7, and hence it did not qualify for any kind of OS upgrade.  He said I had to take the matter up with Sales. Regards

I have a Dell inspiron 2320 64 bit all in one desktop. Originally with win7.

I downloaded the new win10 update two days ago. When the computer restarted to apply to new update, the icons and text were too large. When I went into settings to adjust the size, windows prompted me to sign out and sign back to adjust the size to back to normal. I clicked sign out.

When the sign in screen appeared, it instantly started flashing between a bright pink screen with the date and time, a picture of the beach, and the new win10 blue logo screen. In the middle of all these flashing screens was the facial recognition sign in program. Could not click on anything.

I had disabled the facial recognition when I first bought the desktop and I had assumed it was enabled during the update and was maybe causing issues. So, I did a forced restart, f2, and changed the admin password. I had hoped that this would disable the facial recognition and stop the flashing screens. Didn't work.

I tried running diagnostics through the f12 menu. Everything was ok but problem not fixed.

I called Microsoft. I was instructed to go into safe mode with networking but when I tried, I was given a bright blue error screen that stated my PC had encountered an error and would restart. Error listed as "bad_system_config_info"

Tried to restore the PC to the original win7 build but another error message stated the PC was unable to return the the previous build.

I decided to do a factory reset on the PC. 24 ho... Read more

Could you please help me with this situation? What can I do? Fyi I have run the diagnostics and did not found any error.
Thank you for you support

Answer:Dell Inspiron 14 5459 suddenly black screen and shut down

Does this happen with or without the adapter connected? What applications are using when the display goes blank? Is the mouse cursor still seen and active when the display goes blank? Does the system overheat? Are there any bluescreens / system crashes?
Update the BIOS - - and reinstall the chipset drivers and video drivers from the same site and check if it works fine.
If the issue is still unresolved, then connect an external monitor and check if display goes blank on the external monitor and the LCD.
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - do not make any changes here - leave the system in BIOS environment for as long as possible with the adapter connected  and see if the display goes blank while in BIOS.

I'm working with a Lenovo Z50-70 Win8.1x64 preinstalled and wish to know what to do after updating to WIN10:- as updating to WIN10 we will have to reinstall all SW programs, what about the Lenovo applictions (OneKey Recovery, Smart Voice, ....)?- I think its files are in the Lenovo partition, each one has a setup.exe, but there is no help to assist in reinstalling.Could somebody specify the steps to run? Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo preinstalled SW after updating to WIN10

First thing I would do is make sure I have the latest drivers and software from for Windows 10.Then check everything that is installed on your machine individually. If a certain program or peripheral doesn't work reinstall the software or the driver. That is basically it.

Hi all,

Just some kind of confirmation/affirmation to be honest here.

I have recently acquired a Surface Pro 3 (i5-256GB model), had Win8, promptly upgraded to Win10.

However after playing a while I found a few of the 'Pro' features an... annoyance... and nothing I wish to actually use
(one main peeve is the huge exclamation mark on my C: drive for BitLocker, something I don't plan to use, something that worried me when I first saw it, [burned by Ebay previously])

So... unless someone knows of some interesting way to go directly from 10Pro to 10Home...

I have a spare Win7 Home Key available to me, If I wipe Win10Pro, Install Win7 home, and then upgrade to Win10 home will i encounter any problems?

Not a very widespread Problem/Solution I'm sure, but if can anyone tell me if that will/will not work for my peace of mind during the process?

Just in case the 10Pro key would still be installed in UEFI, and would just re-upgrade to Win10pro anyway? Not sure how M$ make this work...

This is just a question, I'm planning to do it over the weekend, Just if someone knows it wont work already I can scrap the idea, and just install-mod 10Pro instead. Or If someone knows it WILL work, I can just go ahead full steam

Thanks ahead for help/answers!

Answer:Downgrade from Win10 Pro to Win10 Home

Installing Windows 7 Home then upgrading to Windows 10 Home should work. I'm getting ready this weekend to try something out myself. I have a laptop, upgraded from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. Going to dual boot with Windows 10 Home that I have a product key for, and then upgrade the Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 Home and see if I can dual boot with both of them and see what happens to activation.

I don't think your Windows 10 Pro product key stored in bios will interfere. I think that will just allow you to go back to Pro if you choose to.

Let us know the outcome!

Resolution: Dell Inspiron 5459/5559/5759 BIOS Update - Will not boot after update
"No boot drive found", "PXE... Media test failure"
If you updated from 1.0.x to 1.1.5 (or other) and find yourself scratching your head in a panic that your system won't boot up, reboot and press and hold the F2 key when you see the Dell logo (shortly after restart). When the bios settings page opens, click restore settings to default, save, and then exit. Your system should boot to windows now :-)
If you don't care about default Keyboard LED brightness or Fn Lock key default status, disregard the following:
After your system restarts into windows, restart and repeat to enter bios. There are some minor settings that change -- They are minor and don't affect performance.  Under System Configuration, Keyboard brightness changes from dim to bright. Under Post Boot, Fn lock key changes to unlocked.
Have a nice day. Hopefully if you're reading this you already figured that out on your own.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 5459/5559/5759 BIOS Update Error - WILL NOT REBOOT

Only problem, reset to default settings does not solve it for me. Its still the same PXE E61 Media test failure and NO Bot device found error.

Hi there, I am not really new to all this but rather stuck on a knowledge level 10 years past ;-))I bought an ideapad 700 17ISK (used) that came with Windows 10 preinstalled.Since for the last decade and more I've been using Ubuntu, I wanted to stick with that and deceided to check wether it runs ok on the new notebook.I ran a Live-system and was quite pleased and decided to install it alongside the Windows installtion since I was curious and wanted to test that as well.I saw that the main partition sda5 was empty and used that one for installation and split it for data and swap. After installation I could not boot into my fresh ubuntu installation, neither acces the Windows 10 installation.Beforehand it always started with a message that some things had to be configured, now I get an error page saying my PC needs repair and that \Windows\system32\winload.efi was not foundAnd error code 0xc0000225 I tried several things like downloading Windows 10 images, running them from USB drive and running automated repair, trying different things from command prompt etc... Nothing helped, I think I'll need to reinstall Windows to get this going again But before buying the hilariously overpriced System Recovery media (Why doesn't Lenovo offer a .iso download for a reasonable price, that would save some money and get instant recovery!!) Hi, I had a GPU fail in my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. The card that failed was an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS. The Vostro laptop actually can accept an NVIDIA 8600 GT card too. So I ordered the replacement part from Dell for the 8600 and they shipped me a refurbished unit.
The surgery to put in the new card took all night for hack like to do. I did not look carefully at the refurbished unit they shipped me as I was nervous handling the card (that I might break it).
But when I turned on the laptop after the installation, I did not get a pause at the BIOS saying “I see new hardware” like I did when I upgraded the RAM.
After the computer booted up I uninstalled the 8400 driver and then installed the 8600 driver. There was a snag at it’s possible that Windows automatically reinstalled the 8400 driver during one the required reboots but I KNOW that I wrote the 8600 driver over top at least (I had hoped to do a clean uninstall then reinstall but Windows tried to grab a driver for me).
So now when I right click on computers, properties device manager it shows the video as still the 8400 card. The 8400 card I removed has a sticker on it that says KU907 on it. The invoice for the 8600 that Dell sent for the 8600 says KU907 on it too.
I think I was sent the wrong part from Dell (I paid a higher price for the 8600 GPU) . Is it possible that a legacy driver is making the Vostro think it has the 8400 when the part IS an 8600. Or when I go to the Device Manager, does the computer physically c... Read more

I found this list on the Dell site that tells you whether they have tested a particular model for its ability to be upgraded to Windows 10.   The Dell Vostro 3550 is not on the list of about 20 Vostro models, some with lower model numbers ,  some higher.   Will they ever test it??
If you try to upgrade,  windows 10 copies files and then in the 2nd of the three major sections of the upgrade (where you have that big circle in the middle of the screen)  it just goes to a blank screen and then all disk activity ceases and it becomes well hung.   Of course now, the machine thinks its os is win 10 and you cannot go back to a win 7 recover point .  So you just lose all your data and apps and restore the factory image and then install 208 windows 7 updates and it takes like 8 hours in all.
Sounds like a similar problem that people had with Vostros going from win 7 to win 8.   Why not fix it.

Answer:Windows 10 Upgrade - why isnt Dell Vostro 3550 on the list from Dell ?

Well, after spending the better part of whole day trying to figure out why somebody else's Dell Vostro 3550 was not displaying anything after an even longer period of downloading the Windows 10 upgrade (from Windows 7 in this case) it turns out the fix required was to upgrade the BIOS to A11 (end of 2012).

Hopefully this might save someone a wasted day in their lives. Before this I spent some hours before figuring out that the machine was in fact booting - only the display was black. So then it was a matter of figuring out key strokes to use (blind) to shut down and also enable the menu for safe mode. Safe mode worked, and so then more hours trying to work around the issue before finally stumbling onto some stuff online where the BIOS upgrade was mentioned - apparently also an issue with Windows 8?

The U2515H HDMI in port can do up to 2560x1440 60Hz. But the U2515H does not dictate the resolution. That is done by the capabilities of the laptop GPU video card. The 2011 Vostro 3750 HDMI out must be limited to 1920.

Kind regards,

Answer:Satelite C870-17L : Windows 8 preinstalled : Downgrade to windows 7 ?

Before you do anything create recovery media. This recovery media can be used if you want to install original Win8 recovery image. How to do this is described in User?s manuals document.
>...I need to install a Windows 7 on this computer. Can I do that ?
Generally speaking, yes, you can do this.
>Do I wipe the HDD and cleaninstall windows 7 ?
>No problems with my computer ?
Only problem can be to find all drivers, tools and utilities. It can be that some stuff will be missing so you will not be able to have 100% functionality but this can be related to some Toshiba specific tools.
>Can I download the original recovery-disks for my computer ?
No, you cannot do this. Recovery image cannot be downloaded.

For Win7 you must use Microsoft installation disc. Please note that you cannot use product key from your notebook for Windows activation.

If you have more questions you are welcome.

The GeForce M series and GeForce Go series notebook GPUs use drivers that have been customized by the notebook manufacturers to support hot key functions, power management functions, lid close and suspend/resume behavior. NVIDIA has worked with some notebook manufacturers to provide notebook-specific driver updates, however, most notebook driver updates must come from the notebook manufacturer. I bought my Dell Vostro 3800 ST almost 2 years ago, sadly I didn't really do my research before I bought it, and it turns out, card that came with it wasn't really great for gaming and it's nearing the end of it's life.
So I'm planning to buy proper card, but my tower is waaay to slim to fit in it comfortably.
So my question is, will I be able to take my motherboard to another, non-Dell case? If so, what type of case would be good? I did try to find online, what type of motherboard it is, but if there's an answer to that question, I can't find or understand it.
I'd be grateful for any help provided :)

Answer:Will my motherboard from Dell Vostro 3800 ST fit into non-Dell case?

It's more or less a micro-ATX board so it will likely fit a standard case.  That said, wiring the power switch, hard drive LEDs, etc. will be difficult - they're not standard and it may be a lot of trial and error to make work.

Answer:driver download (downgrade from win10 to win7 pro)

If you need drivers, please follow these steps:1. In the Run box type devmgmt.msc.2. Unknown devices would be listed as such and marked out with a yellow question mark.3. Select the unknown device or other device for which you need drivers and right click to access Properties.4. In the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id  or Hardware ID from the drop down.5. An alphanumeric string like this PCI\VEN_1217&DEV_7130&SUBSYS_012F1025&REV_01\4&6B16D5B&0&33F0 is the identification marker for the device.6. Please provide this number so that we can suggest the appropriate driver.

Answer:ThinkCente: Downgrade windows 10 pro preinstalled to windows 7

First you need to check your licence in bios under Main tab. it's like Preinstalled OS licence, if you can see there your OS, you don't need to worry about Win10, just format your drive and install Win7. When you want to go back Win10 you can install anytime, activation will be done automatically.

So I just bought the Dell XPS 8700 with windows 8.1 64 bit and after turning it on and setting up the system I found it to be sort of slow. I have been told by some that the dell software that comes preinstalled can slow down the system but some are also important to keep. Which ones below are safe to remove and not needed?
These were preinstalled on my system:
Dell Backup and Recovery
Dell Customer Connect
Dell Data Services
Dell Digital Delivery
Dell Foundation Services
Dell Help & Support
Dell Product Registration
Dell Support Assist
Dell Support Assist Agent
Dell Update

Hi every one,

I have a Toshiba Satellite P870-11K with standard BIOS (in ROM, not an UEFI one) and Win7 64bits. Microsoft proposes me an upgrade to Win10 and unfortunately, I accept it.

Under Win7 bios was setup to allow boot on USB port in order to boot on USB Key to restore system with Acronis.

Apparently, Win10 did not allow any more to boot on USB port and I would like to know how to do it. The final purpose is to downgrade back to Win7 using Toshiba HDD Recovery or Assistant Toshiba Recovery.

Win10 did not allow the use of any F key and launch directly, so it seem impossible to reach BIOS option (F2) and / or using Toshiba system recovery.

Did anyone may help me?

Can i do without it? if I make copy of OS now, which OS will be backup Win8 or Win10 (current using)? Please advise me what to do.Thanks

Answer:Ideapad Z500 Touch downgrade from win10 to win8 or 7

"...I was looking option to downgrade through Onekey Rescue System, But I am confuse here as I don't have OS back up in cd/dvd or anything. Can i do without it?" Comment: A copy of the Win 8 including all programs from the factory is place in a hidden partition of the hdd. You need OneKey Recovery program to access it and be able to restore the unit to factory consition. "...if I make copy of OS now, which OS will be backup Win8 or Win10 (current using)?" Comment: First of all how will you do the copy? If it is in Win 10 then you will have a Win 10 backup. That is after the upgrade to Win 10 you will not be able to make a backup through OKR but in Win 10 only.

Answer:S21E-20 Downgrade to WIN8.1 aftter WIN10 upgrade

Hi rquitola,
Thanks for Posting!
All Upgraded Windows 10 do have an option to rollback to Windows 8.1.
Here's how

1. Windows Start  menu by clicking on the icon in the bottom left of the screen and select settings.

2. Now Select Update and Security

3. Now you'll have a Window which has Recovery on the right click that and you should now see a Go back to Windows 8.1 option.
4. Proceed with that and you'll be good to go.

My language bar is missing and cannot switch keyboard from Eng to Chinese after downgrade from Win10 back to Win7.

I've tried the help in the below webpage but no use:

Actually I have completely no idea with the below passage,
which program to click, how to input and how to run:

For your issue, it can be caused by missing user configuration or corrupted system files, you can try commands below to repair:

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
SFC /scannow

Please write in a step-by-step language that non-computer scientist can follow to do. Thank you.

hi i just found this bug where if you follow these steps you can access locked files on your backup drive.
1. install win10 and store some files in dirs on a backup 1gb seagate usb drive.
2. format drive and install windows 7 home premium sp1 at default settings
3. attempt to access your dirs on your backup drive and win7 will keep going forever trying to access em.
4. install "take ownership" reg modification and open up the root folder with it but not the ones inside.
5. if you did it right you should be able to now browse the sub directories with full permissions while they are still "locked"

I got a Dell computer on teh cheap used for my wife. It has a bad mobo and i have spare (non dell) lying around, so no problem there. Problem is: The Dell OEM version of Windows XP. Can i install the Windows XP from Dell or is it bound to the Dell mobo? I haven't tried this yet since i don't have the computer here yet, but would like to start asap when i get it....anyone know?

Answer:Dell Computer / WinXP preinstalled / want to reinstall

You should be able to.. MS considers an OEM copy of xp to be tied to the original mobo.. But let's you swap mobos if the old one fried..

Tip.. You have a Dell.. Research your model and find out if the PSU in your Dell is proprietary... Or you could end up having problems with your new mobo...

Bloatware and proprietary parts are prolly my only legitemate gripes against Dell....

I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 4700 computer running with XP Professional software. Unfortunately, Dell loaded a ton of odds and ends I don't or want to use. Not being an IT person, it's driving me nuts trying to get these "extras" identified, turned off or eliminated. What I have learned, is to take their technical support with a degree of caution.

After setting up the machine, carefully loading my software one step at a time, I began to find that the system slowed to a crawl. Using Ad-Aware and Spybot at work, I installed both only to find the system in even worse shape. I talked to their tech support and learned of the "System Restore" function. That was a two edged sword; it restored the speed of the system, but wiped out anything installed after the System Restore date. And, it automatically uninstalled Spybot.

I would appreciate any feedback on how best to identify the various unused, potentially conflicting software preinstalled by Dell so I can turn it off or eliminate it all together. One of the more interesting Dell extra's is a "Pop-up" window that appears in the lower left corner periodically with a loud sound introduction covering a variety of topics, including the sound level of the system, recommendation to not use Spybot and Ad-Aware, offering to make automatic fixes, etc.

Thanks in advance for input.

Answer:Eliminating Preinstalled Dell's Added Software

You can reverse the system restore that you did and that will get anything lost back.

Just my opinion but I would run both adaware and spybot, have a good look at what they find and then remove all. Both will quarantine and restore if you have to.

I want to replace Win8 Pro x64 on Dell laptop with Win7 Pro x64
Win7 DVD is a "Dell" DVD supplied with the Dell laptop.
There is no Win8 DVD

I have been tweaking MS OS since Win95, Win98, WinXP, Win7. Writing AutoCad and Excel addins, scripting ... but never installed an OS
I am the original village idiot. Have never installed an OS in my life.
So I would appreciate gentle humoring and micro step instructions.

Have started to read An Old School Geek’s approach to Installing & Setting Up a Windows PC ... all beyond me.

I would like to be well prepared before I do anything

Do I need to get any other drivers ?

What do I do and where do I start?

I would appreciate any help, thak you

Just when I was about to download XP-mode and virtual pc the micro$oft site recognised my system to be non-genuine. Now this is, by all accounts, a load of bull$h!t - the computer is less than 5 months old and came with the system preinstalled.
Still the question of further action remains. That's totally unacceptable that a completely valid and legal copy is recognised as non-genuine.
Furthermore - oh what an irony - my previous computer running pirated windows never had the issue.. I'd really hate to resort to piracy again just to use my completely legal copy of the software to its full extent.
