How do i get scroll on my touchpad for my xps 15

Question: How do i get scroll on my touchpad for my xps 15

I just purchased a new xps 15 and, unlike my family's touchpads and my old xps's touchpad, this one does not have side scrollbar. If it does, I am completely dumbfounded on how to activate it. I love the option of scrolling on the right side of my touchpad and I would enjoy having it on this computer.

Please help and thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How do i get scroll on my touchpad for my xps 15

I had the same problem until about 5 minutes ago. Go to control panel -->Switch to small icons --> Click "mouse" (far right column for me) --> Click "Device Settings" tab on the top right --> Click "settings" (on the middle right hand side) --> Double click "Scrolling" (second on list below "overview") --> Click "One-finger" scrolling--> Check the "enable vertical scrolling" and "enable horizontal scrolling"
- For some reason Dell set the default to two finger scrolling so if you can't find the above menu try placing your index and middle finger about half and in apart in the middle of the trackpad and pull down like you normally do to scroll with one finger

Hello, I got my new Lenovo Ideapad U410 (Windows 7) yesterday and I'm just starting to get things going. The one thing that has been bothering me is that I can't scroll uing the touchpad. It must be the Page Up button/Scroll Lock using the Fn Key, but I've tried it and absolutely nothing happens. The Fn Key works for the upper keys (F1, F5, etc.) but not for the buttons on the side (Home/Pause, End/Break, PgUp/ScrLk, PgDn/Insert). I figure I should reinstall keyboard drivers? I'm really sorry, I've looked through different threads but it seems they all have a different solution and I'm getting a bit confused haha.  Thank you!

Answer:U410 Scroll Lock / FN Key not working - I can't scroll using the touchpad

Hi, since you got the laptop yesterday, did you install / uninstall any drivers? Or did the problem exist  right up? ?f the former please roll the driver(s) back. ?f the problem occured later on,you could do a system restore, if you have a restore point, or even since the system is so new,you could restore to factrory settings. after backing up. Otherwise please call Lenovo support, they'll advise you.

I just had my new W530 delivered yesterday, unfortunately with Windows 8 Professional. I noticed that the cursor would not move when I moved my finger across the touchpad or the cursor was "stuck" until I tried a repeat movement with my finger.   I adjusted almost every setting on the latest lenovo driver which provides for windows 8 screen gestures.   The responsiveness to windows 8 gestures does not appear that good, but it is a story for another post.  The main reason for my post is that vertical scrolling barely works in IE 10.I have all the smart check items disabled and the palmcheck lowered to 3.   I've got the touch sensitivity to light, but have also tried heavy.   I have to push like I'm trying to crack the case to get the cursor to move up and down, and often I will touch the right side of the touchpad and nothing happens or it takes a few tries of swiping to get the window to move up or down.    I called two support agents and the first one reminded me I have 30 days to return the unit for a refund, and the second guy had me update the driver with the lenovo update  utility which showed the same version as the one I downloaded and installed.  It made no difference.   He then suggested that if I keep the laptop, the trackpad needs replacing. From looking at some other posts, I really wonder if the pad could be ok, but lenovo is actually selling this thing with a trackpad that performs that poorly. &nb... Answer:Touchpad vertical scroll horrible or touchpad defective

On the W520, the two finger scrolling is unusable, it just randomly jerks the window, or not. Tried every trick in the book when I first got my W520, after a couple of months of wasting time gave up and only use it with a mouse. The W520 has the worst trackpad in the history of computing devices (and the worst mic and speakers, or at least worst drivers). If you need a working touchpad, dont by a Lenovo W series.

Answer:g50-70 touchpad/scroll?

hi fangovk,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you have an ELAN Touchpad, it's likely that the feature is disabled in the registry. Try to check this article on how to enable these hidden features then reboot the machine and observe if you now have an Edge Scroll (a.k.a. One Finger Scroll) option.

Note:
The procedure requires you to merge a registry file to enable all the ELAN features. Ensure that you create a System Restore point or a registry backup just in case you need to revert back the changes.

Question: Scroll on touchpad

Hello everyone,

I just installed the Windows 8 consumer preview and everything seems to be working fine, except I can no longer scroll using my touch pad on my Sony Vaio. Does anyone know how I can fix this or of a driver that is compatible with Windows 8?

Thanks for anyones help!

Answer:Scroll on touchpad

On installing, Win8 doesn't seem to recognize the trackpad as a trackpad. If you go to control panel, you just see the mouse.

Are there trackpad drivers for Windows 8? Class drivers?

Hey,

I just bought a new laptop (HP Special Edition L2000) and I installed the latest version of Firefox but on the touch pad I cannot scroll down webpages, it works in IE but not in FF why is that? when I do try I get a small icon that looks like a mini scroll bar and it does nothing.

TIA

Answer:touchpad wont scroll

It's a Firefox problem.
It's well known, its possible that an earlier driver for the touchpad may work, but its a "variable" fix success wise.

For quite some time now my scroll button (I guess it's called the middle action button) has not worked. I've recently downloaded all the recent drivers for the touchpad/trackpoint and it hasn't worked. I open up the mouse properties box from the Thinkpad Configuration options, and under the Device Settings tab I click on the Synaptics TouchPad then click settings >> buttons. But under the buttons tab the only two options showing up are "left button" and "right button" but no "middle button" when before it used to be there. This isn't working either. The TouchPad is working for other options, rotating, pinch zoom, etc. are, however, working. The only thing not working are either scrolling options. This just recently happened over night...

hi Michael9810,

Can you try these steps:
1. Install this Touchpad Driver (Synaptic, Elan, Alps) for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) and reboot if necessary
2. Press the Windows key? +X, and navigate to Control Panel > Hardware and sound > Mouse.
3. On the mouse properties, see if you can enable two finger scrolling from the Device Settings tab (for Synaptics Touchpad) or the ELAN tab (for ELAN touchpads).

In Yoga 900 the touchpad does not scroll sometimes even I updated all the drivers or restored the computer. I thought it was just me having this problem but then I read in the reviews on Lenovo web site that some users was complaining quote "trackpad isn't reliable as it doesn't scroll sometimes. Not sure if I am missing something or this is genuinely a problem. in any case, would appreciate Lenovo's attention on this".

To be more concrete the scrolling with two fingers with the touchpad (trackpad) seems to work well in desktop apps like Chrome, but does not seem to work well in windows metro or windows metro app. For example, going to Windows 10 Button > All apps, scrolling will not work there with two fingers using touchpad. Nor will it work in Windows 10 > Settings > any options. Switching to Chrome it will imediately work smoothly.

Number of users affected is at least 2 so I decided to bring it up here so it can be resolved.

Answer:Yoga 900 - Touchpad does not scroll sometimes

I have the same problem with the touchpad/trackpad. Chrome, IE, and Edge two finger scroll acceptably.   Windows (start menu and settings) and metro apps will work after a reboot until you click on something and then scrolling breaks completely (or behaves very erratically in these applications). I've tried reinstalling the touchpad drivers (trying to uninstall fails for me) and creating the "UseScrollCursor" registry key that some people have reported, but I haven't had any success. I'm glad I purchased with a 15 day return policy. I will wait a few days to see if a fix comes out, but I can't live with this type of bug.

So i got this new HP spectre i7 that I am very glad for, but for some reason, I cannot scroll with the touchpad. It has worked a couple of times, but for the most part, the mouse just moves without the page scrolling. I have tried to update the touchpad driver, but was the system said that I already had the newest available. It is quite an annoyance since I have to use the scroll bar constantly instead of scrolling swiftly with the touchpad.

Every time my T61 comes back from hibernation the touchpad scroll will not work.  The touchpad itself, the navpoint, and the navpoint scroll via the blue button all still work.  If I restart, it will work again.  I've reinstalled the driver multiple times with no success.  It still works when I come back from sleep, but not from hibernate.  Any suggestions?

Answer:T61 Touchpad Scroll after Hibernate

Hello everyone, The following fixed this problem for me. I have a T61.1. Download the latest drivers from Synaptics?s website, not Lenovo?s.http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers2. Uninstall the ultranav driver and ultranav utility, and restart.3. Install the driver you downloaded from Synaptics. That?s it. Horizontal scrolling now works. Lenovo?s drivers are customized for thinkpads, replacing their driver with the one from Synaptics may result in loss of certain options and functionality. I do not need any extras like the zoom and all that. I usually use the trackpoint middle button as a mouse wheel click to open links in new tabs, and that still works. The Synaptics driver allows you to customize the trackpoint (they call it ?pointing stick?) also, so maybe the Lenovo driver isn?t all that important. Try it for yourself and see if it works for you. You can always uninstall Synaptics and go back to Lenovo?s driver.

Hi,

I use a Toshiba notebook; Intel (R) Centrino 2 duo core processor P8400.

My touch pad is active and ok but shows only the mouse pointer on the screen.
The virtual scrolls which usually appear have gone
The nature of my work warrants that I get them back for easy manipulations.

I uninstalled the synaptic driver and reinstalled another I got from the Toshiba website supports and downloads link compatible with my system.

I am still not having my scroll bars active and do not know what to do next.
I am also not very versed with computers
Can anyone help me out?

Answer:Mising scroll bar on TouchPad

You can disable or enable the scroll function on the touchpad.

Go to control panel => mouse => device settings
Select the Synaptic Touchpad and click on settings. In the category virtual scrolling you can enable this feature.

End Edit. I do know that there was an issue with some people having the touch pad turned off after the update.... However they were supported hardware for WIndows 10, I don't want to say for sure that your systems isnt supported however looking up your model in the acer support only shows support for Windows Vista and 7.  ONly thing you could try and do is update back to the 7 driver and see if it can work with that. I know that in my Aspire One it isn't supported and I can run 10 but don't have good Graphics Driver to do any good Game play... my driver date is 6-18-215 driver 19.0.13.0 is Synaptics.  If I remember right I had tried to roll it back, Then I uninstlaled it and restarted the computer and then it worked after finding the new driver. Hi, The two finger scroll function on the touchpad is not working. The driver is updated as well. Overall the touchpad seems unresponsive as well. It gets stuck and cursor stops moving. It is the only thing that I am not happy with regarding the spectre x360. Can you please help. Thanks

Answer:Two finger scroll down not working on touchpad

Hello @ukx360 ,Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Spectre x360 Notebook and mouse freezing. Here is a document on how to troubleshoot the mouse and Touchpad sensitivities. If you will go to the section on Adjusting TouchPad, you will see a restore defaults button. If you select that it will restore the original settings.Hope this fixes things up.Thanks.

I have a HP G6 Notebook, OS: Windows 7

My touch pad is functional as I can move the mouse, right and left click work just fine. However neither the two finger scroll nor single finger scroll work when I turn on my computer. I have to manually go to Control Panel, Hardware, Mouse and just open the Synaptic program and then it works. All my preferred settings are still checked and saved since the beginning of time and the preferred mouse selected, is the touch pad.

The touch pad retains all of it's scrolling capabilities until I turn off then turn my computer on again. I thought I could resolve some of the issue if I pinned Synaptics to my bottom tool bar, but Synaptics does not show when I turn on my computer either.

Any thoughts?

Answer:can S400 touch touchpad scroll?

Hi gameson,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The Touchpad here supports Multitouch gestures such as Two-finger scroll

Check this
How to use Two-Finger Scrolling:
Place two fingers slightly separated on the TouchPad. Slide both fingers in unison up or down for vertical navigation, and left or right for horizontal navigation. Gesture ends when both fingers are lifted from TouchPad.
Benefits:
Delivers scrolling functionality in Windows applications by using two fingers moving vertically or horizontally anywhere on the TouchPad. Scrolling speed is controlled by finger speed.

If it is not working try installing this Driver
Windows 8
 Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan)

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hello, I am using an HP Pavilion dm4-3050us with Windows 8.1, and the touchpad scrolling is not working. I upgraded exactly two weeks ago on October 17th, and the scrolling has been working perfectly fine until today. Since I discovered the problem, I have done everything I could. I reinstalled the driver, I restarted the computer multiple times, I have played with the settings, but nothing is working. There was another thread with the same problem, except that all the solutions that worked for those people did not work for me. I have multi-finger gestures turned on, and I have vertical scrolling turned on as well. What is interesting is that other gestures work perfectly fine, except for the gestures that require more than one finger. If I swipe in form the left side, I can switch between Windows 8 apps, and if I swipe in from the right side, the charms bar comes up. But I cannot scroll with two fingers, I cannot switch between apps with 4 fingers, and I cannot right click by tapping the touchpad with 2 fingers. These are all things that worked literally yesterday. Is there a reason that the touchpad can only register gestures that use one finger, but not those that use more than one finger? (When I try scrolling with two fingers, the mouse does not move. This tells me that the computer knows that I am trying to scroll, but is not doing it. I know this because when I try to scroll with two fingers on a page that cannot be scrolled, the mouse just stays in place.)&n... Read more

I have a Satellite L750 (my first Laptop and first touchpad) running Windows 7. I have set the mouse scroll to 1 line at a time but every time I place the pointer on the right scroll bar down arrow (and press the left button or tap) the screen jumps so that the scroll bar is at the bottom. I want the screen to 'inch' down slowly as it would if I was using a mouse wheel.

Yes, I know that the answer is probably very easy so please, those folks that are itching to reply remember I am a 'newbie' at touchpads.

Regards

Answer:Satellite L750 - How do I scroll with the touchpad?

Hey,

You can scroll with the touchpad on right side of it. Just move your finger up or down on the right side of touchpad and you can scroll with this gesture. It?s not complicated and very easy.
Furthermore such basic operations are described in user manual and I would recommend reading it. ;)

If you are not familiar with the touchpad you can also connect an external USB mouse (same mouse like on a desktop computer). Such external mouses are not expensive and you don?t need a driver for that. Just connect it to one USB port and it?s ready to use :)

I own a T61 Thinkpad (type=6465), bought in 2008 and running Ubuntu 10.04. I recently ordered from Lenovo/IBM Parts a new palm rest because its touchpad buttons don't work properly anymore. I was told that I needed a palm rest with the id 42W2958, which had been substituted, for some reason, to part 42W3821 (they said it was compatible though). The new palm rest I received is identical to the original one I had, except for one small but annoying detail: the touchpad hardware doesn't support two finger scrolling, which I use heavily. I tried everything I could to "activate" it (if such a thing is possible) but to no avail. With this command, it's very clear that both hardwares are different: $ xinput list-props "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" | grep Capa
Synaptics Capabilities (291):1, 1, 1, 1, 1 # <- original touchpad (2-finger-scroll = second to last column)
Synaptics Capabilities (291):1, 1, 1, 0, 0 # <- new touchpadCan someone help me figure out a way to solve this problem, in terms of part # I should (try) to replace with, or maybe some magical software solution that I'd have overlooked?

Hi. I'd like to make more use of TouchPad scrolling feature (by swiping near the edges of the trackpad), but UltraNav settings only let you control speed. It's unusable no matter what speed I set it to, because due to acceleration, it's always too slow or too fast. It takes incredibly delicate concentration and control to make pages scroll at the desired speed. Is there a way to turn off the acceleration somehow? Any 3rd party driver options? Thank you.

On the mouse properties Windows,

Hi all,After I upgraded to Windows 10, my touchpad started working strangely and annoying. Firsly, when I scroll with two fingers, then remove one finger, but keep moving another, scrolling continues for a second and only after that my mouse starts to move. And secondly, after I put 3 fingers on touchpad, then remove 2 and start moving the one that was left, mouse won't move. The issue is probably somehow connected with drivers for touchpad. If somebody had the same problem, or knows at least what is causing it, please comment, I'd really appreciate!

I was trying to troubleshoot a freezing problem before login and so, following some online instructions, i unchecked "load startup items" in system configuration, which turned off ELAN smartpad at startup. When I tried scrolling up and down on my touchpad and it didn't work, I figured it must have something to do with turning the feature off at startup. Indeed, ELAN smartpad was unchecked in the startup tab in system config, so i re-checked it. However, when I restarted my laptop, the scroll feature still wasn't working until I went into the  "Elantech" folder under Program files within the C: drive and double clicked on "ETDCtrl." I tried copying this "ETDCtrl" into the startup folder but then an error just pops up after logging in. I have to turn on the scrolling feature everytime I log into my computer and it is getting super annoying. How can it automatically start every time I turn on my laptop? Also, I noticed that in the Startup tab in system config, the folder for ELANtech is labeled as "%Programfiles%\Elantech\ETDCtrl.exe" instead of "C:\Programfiles\..." like for all the other startup items, is this the problem? if so, how do I fix it? thanks!

Hello everyone,  I have recently bought an IdeaPad Z510 running Windows 8.1 64bit. I have installed the latest drivers from Lenovo and I'm having a difficult time with the ALPS touchpad: 1. The two-finger scroll works, but only when I'm scrolling fast. If I want to scroll slowly, the touchpad is unresponsive - I can swipe the entire touchpad from top to bottom and the page only scrolls one line. This is a big problem, as it makes the touchpad extremely hard to use when reading long web pages. 2. There is no way to middle-click (i.e. no support for two/three-finger tap) - this is just a bit annoying, as I use middle-click to close browser tabs, but I can live without  ALPS touchpad driver 8.100.1611.210, which is the latest available on the Lenovo website.  I can only think of two solutions: either an update from Lenovo or an alternative driver (from another manufacturer) that can be used on the Z510. Unfortunately, ALPS does not provide generic drivers for end-users.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks, Bogdan

After I close this, the scrolling speed is back as before (fast), when i open again the settings everythings looks like I've set. All other options i changed for the touchpad are set and working after I close the settings only the scrolling speed will not change. I tried to do it with old drivers and new drivers and in Admin mode, nothing helps. Maybe you have an idea ? Brgds,

I found the solution but it's not the way how it should be done. In the mouse option ( I have no mouse ) in section "wheel" i had to change from scroll 2 lines to scroll 1 line. Are you sure you got the right drivers with the right OS? Seeing that you put in an SSD, some of your files may be where they should not be.I know the Y series drivers are different for Win7 and Win8, there still isn't one for RapidDrive on Win8 which has stopped me from getting an SSD for my Y580 still waiting to apparate in front of me.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5547 running Win 8.1. Every now and then the scroll feature (two fingers vertical swipe to scroll the screen), and the two finger tap for right click, will stop working. When this happens, all the other features on the touchpad seem to work. If I restart the laptop it starts working again. I've tried going into services.msc and setting 'Human Interface Devices" to automatic startup, but it doesn't help. There's something else pretty weird also... When I go into the system tray (lower right), right click the touchpad icon, and select Touchpad Properties, it takes me into the Dell Pointing Devices windows. Inside this window, there is a sliding switch to disable the touchpad. When I disable it, the touchpad still works. Weird. Does anybody have any ideas how I can get this sorted out. I'm also using a wireless USB mouse on the same laptop, not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Answer:Touchpad scroll dies randomly

Hi Jools

Personally I would look to see what touchpad driver version you are using and then either update it with an in-place update, or uninstall (my favourite option, then install new driver) the current driver and then re-install, as it may just be a slight corruption.

Latest driver HERE
Also a thought, when the touchpad stops with the scroll feature, had your laptop been left not used for a period of time, like hibernation?

Hi,
I'm interested in buying notebook L500-164.

Can anybody tell me if this notebook has a touchpad with scroll-function?
And if, only page down or also "left to right"?

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite L500-164 - Does the touchpad has scroll function?

Hi

Yes, the Satellite L500 supports virtual scrolling.

But therefore you need the touchpad driver, this feature is software based as on other notebook. It?s not a problem because the driver is already preinstalled and additionally you can download it on the Toshiba page. :)

Have fun with a new Satellite L500. Friend of me bought it too and it?s really great and the price is also good.

My laptop did an automatic upgradeto Windows 10 Home recently; formerly it was Windows 7 Home Premium.
Since thischange, the touch pad (HP G56) will not scroll on any document or web page.
When I attempt to update thedriver I am told it is up to date and also that the device is working properly.
The lap top is out of warrantyso HP will not offer any advice.
I also get regular warning of high memory usagewhich I have never seen before. The laptop is also a lot slower in respondingto web browsing, reading email and just about everything else.
I?m not prepared to upgrade my RAM just tosatisfy speeding up processes as all was just fine before the upgrade.
Any suggestions please?

I've mainly been using a USB mouse with my M3 lately but went to use the touchpad the other day and found the scroll functions (i.e. the right and bottom of the pad, used for scrolling in the current window) were no longer working. In the dual-point options window, the functions were enabled. I tried altering the functions of the pad, but each time, the new settings were not applied and next time I opened the settings window, they had reverted to their previous state.

Any help would be appreciated!

Colin

Answer:Touchpad scroll functions not working on Tecra M3

Hello Colin

I have Tecra M1 and there is the same Touchpad setting like on your M3. I can really don?t understand how it can happen. I use also external USB wireless mouse but everything works fine. The only thing that I have noticed is that this scroll function is possible if the cursor is inside the window where you want to use this scroll function.

hello all,
my problem is after having a pc world health check done on my A80 i am no longer able to scroll using the touchpad, this happened last year as well and the only way i got it back was to go back to a time when it was scrolling, i mentioned this when i went in this year and was shown how to find the page that controls this function, only i cant find it now, i have been in to everything, can find mouse properties and how to enable/disable touchpad, but that is as far as i get.
Can someone please give me clear uncomplicated advice on this as i am not technically brilliant.
thanks

Answer:Touchpad wont scroll after healthcheck on Equium A80

Hello Eileen

Before we start to discuss can you please tell us, is the notebook preinstalled with delivered recovery CD that contains all drivers, tools and utilities? I presume not. Am I right?

Obviously you are missing TouchPad utility. Please visit Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads. There you can download TouchPad utility for your notebook model. After doing this you will have new tab in mouse properties called Advanced.

There you can find all settings you need.

Bye and good luck.

Hi there,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300D that came with Vista, but recently my hard drive died and I installed Windows 7 64bit with the new one. My problem is that the Synaptics touchpad lost its scroll function, and Toshiba doesn't provide the drivers for Win7, only for XP and Vista (and those don't work, I've tried it).

What can I do to make it work again? Thanks!

Answer:Synaptics touchpad lost scroll function

Hi Hopscotch Welcome to Seven Forums ... The Vista Driver should have worked .. But it seems like you might need two Drivers .. Read the Link below

You will need to download the drivers for the touch pad. As well as other drivers such as chipset drivers.

Drivers for Win 7 32 bit

Drivers for Win 7 64 bit

pip1951,

If it was working, did you try a system restore to when it worked properly? It could be that something installed incorrectly, such as Windows Updates, for example.

After I updgraded to Windows 10 on my Aspire V5-571P, my touchpad does not scroll. The touchpad functions fine otherwise. I haven't been able to easily locate the most current drivers for the Synaptics touchpad online, but maybe I've missed something. Can someone point me in the right direction? All helpful suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Answer:Aspire V5-571P Synaptics Touchpad does not scroll ...

Acer has no support or drivers for the V5-571P. You can search for Win 10 drivers and try each one until you find one that works or roll back to 8.1 and wait on Win 10 until drivers become available.http://www.thewindowsclub.com/rollback-from-windows-10

Could anyone with working scroll please go to these keys in regedit and export them to a reg file and copy and paste the content here? I'm trying to fix non-scroll in MS apps only, meaning scroll works in other apps. MS are not interested in helping, eventhough its their FUBAR.

I like the reg keys from ALPS touchpad, best if its Ultranav.
