Emails sent to same domain not arriving

Question: Emails sent to same domain not arriving

Hi All,

This is my first post on this site - I've been trying to figure what might be the cause of my problem, searched Google, received no help from my mail server host and so have turned to you guys.

I have an Asus F5 laptop with Vista Business and using Windows Mail for my email, with eM Client () on the same machine. My PC is a totally separate XP SP2 machine and has eM Client.

Suppose I work for "A Company", whose email addresses end in "acompany.com.au". The company's website and mail is hosted by an external 3rd party. It's a POP3 / SMTP setup and has been working fine up until I ran into my issue (below).

The issue arose around the same time that I installed iTunes after getting an iPhone (and set the iPhone up to receive mails). A business colleague did the same thing and does not have the issue I have.

Supporting info and my issue:

1. Webmail:
I can send and receive emails to / from anyone: the outside world and acompany.com.au domain - no problems.

2. iPhone:
I can send and receive emails to / from anyone: the outside world and acompany.com.au domain - no problems.

3a. Laptop - Windows Mail application AND eM Client (a different email application), neither of which are web-based:
I can send and receive emails to / from anyone in the outside world - i.e. they DON'T have an acompany.com.au domain email address
I can receive emails from anyone with an acompany.com.au domain email address
Emails I send to people with an acompany.com.au domain email address - from either application, the second of which has not been used in ages and hence no settings changed - get processed through the "Outbox" and appear in the "Sent Items" box as if they have been sent, but do not arrive.

3b. PC (i.e. totally different machine) - eM Client
I can send and receive emails to / from anyone in the outside world - i.e. they DON'T have an acompany.com.au domain email address
I can receive emails from anyone with an acompany.com.au domain email address
Emails I send to people with an acompany.com.au domain email address - again, eM Client has not been used in ages and hence no settings changed - get processed through the "Outbox" and appear in the "Sent Items" box as if they have been sent, but do not arrive.

Given that my issues are occurring despite different applications AND different machines, where settings / accounts which have worked are now not working, this leads me to wonder whether it's an issue at the server level.

In short, any emails I send from "[email protected]" to "[email protected]" (including myself) from Windows Mail or eM Client on my laptop, and eM Client on my PC - with no changes to settings - do not arrive.

I've asked the mail server hosts to help to see if the emails are arriving and, if so, what's happening but their position is that as emails are going through webmail and iPhone there's no problem there end.

Any ideas on how to resolve my issue, what may be causing it, where to look, who to talk to (i.e. my mail hosts) are all welcome.

Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Emails sent to same domain not arriving

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Emails sent to same domain not arriving

I've done some further experimentation and have some more information that may help identify the problem, and hopefully lead to it getting sorted.

If I receive an email from someone outside "acompany.com.au" and I reply and CC someone who IS from "acompany.com.au", the CC'd person gets the email. Subsequent replies back and forth then work OK - even without the original external person being on the email.

So it seems that it's just new emails I create to people with the same email domain as me. Why would that occur across different applications on different machines?

I have the following problem with my web mail associated with my web business used through Outlook Express 6

I am receiving emails fine but emails I send are not being received by the recipient. They are going into my sent file as being sent ok, no problems. This has been going on for 3 days now and is very frustrating. Sometimes one or two arrive as I have been periodically testing through other email addresses I have . I can send emails fine using the web mail client provided with my hosting package and also emails sent to my hosts technical team seem to arrive also !
It is very very odd ! I have since re-loaded Explorer 8 which has OE6 and has made no difference.

My personal emails provided with my broadband connection all work fine through the same OE6

I should add I am not getting any error messages at all . Could this be an isp problem?

Any help would be much appreciated as I am going nuts with this!

Been with Freeserve, Wanadoo, Orange with no real problems. I write to my daughter in USA daily who is with clearwire.net. Recently 90% of my emails have not arrived and they are not returned to me....just disappear. All Orange Tech Support say is that my daughter must have my address blocked....she hasn't. Clearwire say they don't have a problem. All my mail to other people and daughter's mail from others gets through. I can send to her OK from my Yahoo address. Any ideas on what might be causing the problem and how to resolve it would be appreciated.

Answer:Emails not arriving

You could try setting up a free webmail account like AOL or Google click here click here as it looks like a service issue that neither company will acknowledge and as such are unlikely to fix.

I use Outlook Express at home. I get several spam emails and legitimate emails from large companies every day as most of us do.Just lately emails from my work don't seem to be getting through to my home address. I have had no problems in the past. There is no indication at my work's end that the emails have not been delivered - where are they going??Any ideas of what could be at fault.

Answer:Certain emails not arriving

check your webmail Spam folder. Your ISP server may be marking them as spam and not letting them through.Add your works email domain to your 'safe' or 'contacts' list on both Outlook Express and your Webmail Server ISPYou have not said what your ISP is?

I cannot receive emails sent to me with EML attachments. The same problem occurs both with emails sent to my normal (ISP) email address, arriving through Outlook Express, and also emails sent to a gmail account I have. The strange thing is that they arrived up until a couple of months ago without problem. The person who sends them to me can reach me at both the above addresses if the mail is text only, but if it has an EML attachment it simply doesn't arrive. Can anyone explain this? My comp details are below.
Thanks, Bill.

Hi guys

we are having issues getting some customer emails to our office. we have no spam filters or anything and get plenty of spam at our
[email protected] email address. i just dont know where to start, is it us or them? we get so much spam it seems odd that its us that are
refusing the emails - but how can i find out where the problem is??? this is really annoying and we have no idea how many other
people arent reaching us

the domains we know that cannot send to us are:
@flooringbyhenton.co.uk
@carrgrange.co.uk
@uniqueplastics.ltd.uk

our email domain is:
@delmargroup.co.uk

our mail comes via:
mail.delmargroup.co.uk

and we use ms exchange as our email, installed on our only server (sbs2003)

this is a failure notice i had sent to my home address, then forwarded (just in case its confusing):

I'm running Outlook 97 with Windows 2000, computer is on a NT server at work. About 90% of emails I receive are arriving as attachments. If it's a simple text email, I'm receiving a .txt (Notepad) attachment; if it's an html email, I'm receiving a .htm attachment. I think I've tried every option or combination of options to fix it, and I can't believe that it's a compatibility problem with Outlook/Office 97 and Windows 2000--although I think I'm the only person in the office with W2000.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For the last week I have been receiving an email from my son's email address, but there is never a "subject" and on opening the email it is always just a link to some rubbish.
I have gmail, windows live and have tried to say that it is junk but always get the messsage it can't delete it. I've also told my son to open a new email address and have deleted his contact name from my list of contacts.
I'm now at a loose end as to how I can stop getting this junk email?

Answer:Spam emails - can't stop them arriving in inbox

Now that you've opened these emails I would run your security programs then change your email passwords and ask your son to run all his security programs before he changes his.

System:

Windows 7

Microsoft Outlook

This problem has been going on for a while. Husband uses computer for work and although most emails arrive just fine sometimes he gets an email which arrives up to a day later than the time the sender sent it (as time-stamped on the email and as checked directly with the sender). It's not always the same sender, and the one sender can have emails that are sent both immediately or delayed. It must be something in the relay process. The most annoying thing about this, apart from the email being late, is that when it arrives it slots into it's chronological position rather than at the top of the list, and these emails sometimes then get missed as they are in between already-received and read emails.

This morning I also received such an email. I received emails from my mother at 6.01 and 6.04pm respectively last night, on time. This morning I received an email from a friend time-stamped 6.03pm - but it didn't come until this morning and it slotted in between the two emails from my mother last night. I have copied the headers below and it seems one of the servers is adding on some hours for some reason. Is this anything that can be done about this?

I have changed the names of sender and recipient to Citizen1 and Citizen2 below for privacy:

I've got a really wierd (but really serious) problem.

I've recently realised that a lot of emails i'm sending out to multiple recipients AREN'T ARRIVING.

emails have been sent to numerous different email addresses on differnt domains, but it appears that each time, the email only arrives to one recipient (the last address inserted on the email). I've tested this using OE6 and Webmail with the same result each time.

I know that Freeparking.co.uk have a limit of 20 recipients per email - but i have tried it with only 4 or 5 recipients and still the same thing happens (i.e it only arrives to one recipient!!!)

My usual set up is using OE6, my ISP is blueyonder and my email is forwarded through click here for my own domain (click here).

HAS ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS?????

cheers

Wilf

Here is a good one for you guys. I am a bit stumped. It could be something rather simple.

I have a client with SBS2003 R2. They have 6 users. 5 are in the office, one is remote. This remote address does not use outlook or connect via VPN to the server. The SBS uses Microsofts IMAP connector and downloads the email to the SBS. The 5 users in house can email each other, other people outside the domain, but not the 1 remote user. They all have the same @domain.com address. My understanding is that the emails to her are resolving locally, she does have a user account on the server (not a pop3 connector acct). Should I just remove her email address from her user account?

Google found me this.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300681

I tried Method 1 with no success, but was unsure if I should attempt Method 2?

Answer:SBS2003 R2- user not in sbs domain not recieving emails from users inside the domain

Not clear on your setup...so you have 6x users on your SBS box? 5x in house, and 1x at a satellite branch that does not authenticate to the domain.

And you're using the POP3 connector to pull e-mail from a mailhost out there which houses the POP3 mailboxes?

Is the default recipient policy of the Exchange server set to this "domain.com"?

The first 5x users can send/receive locally to the domain.local addresses? Did you manually add a default SMTP address for each user for domain.com?

Can e-mails to this 6th person show up in her inbox if you check from OWA?

Do you see what happens to e-mails for this 6th person in Exchange Message Tracking Center?

Each morning I have a list of 10-20 rejected emails that were sent out about a week ago using my domain.  I don't recognize any of the recipients (not from my email lists) nor do I recognize the email account in the From: field.  All of the emails contain a randomly named zip file that it tries to send (probably a virus).

This is an example of one of the emails.  The X-Sender is my actual email address, however the From address uses my domain but not my account name.

Is this a virus?  Is someone logging in to my account?

Hello,

I have noticed on many occassions that when people send me an email to our business email account it says something like -

"[email protected] on behalf of Joe Blogs <[email protected]"

How do people do this?

I can see one advantage of doing this because I could use any computer or mobile device to log into my Gmail account and check my business emails. Our current set up would require me to lug around my laptop.

Does this have something to do with the domain mapping options?

Are there any disadvantages to doing it this way? Will the original email still 'live' on our business server so it can be retrieved via Outlook 2010?

Any help or direction would be appreciated!

All the best,

Dave

Hi. I have set my own name as a domain on Google Apps, i.e. @myname.com. Now, I'd like to use that as my main email and I thought of using one account for a particular purpose. Like [email protected], [email protected], etc. Then I thought that would be too confusing , so maybe one of two would be enough.

I would really appreciate some suggestions and ideas on how other handle their emails on their own domain. FYI, I do have a domain for my freelance business but another email could be useful.

Have been using a domain name for my website and emails for 20 years. About a month or so ago I discovered that people sending emails to my domain name got their emails bounced back if there was an attachment that exceeded about 4MB with the message "A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients" Although an email sent to my real address with an attachment far exceeding 4MB is delivered OK! My provider is not interested in troubleshooting anything outside their scope! Can anyone suggest anything....

My uncle has a small physiotherapy clinic made up of a 5 or so people. He already has a domain name registered for his website and wants to setup email accounts for all of his employees. Unfortunately, he nor I have no clue how to go about doing this so we need some help.

I think what he wants is just a normal work email with 5 or 6 emails under the domain he's registered for the website. I have no idea how this works so please bear with me.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Emails for a small business with a custom domain

It all depends on if the hosting he has offers email if that's the case then he would add the email addresses at the hosting control panel.

If he has no mail on his web hosting then I'd go for Google apps free, that will allow you to setup mail for your domain for up-to 10 users Google Apps helps groups build communities ? Google Apps

To setup something like the google option you will need to edit the MX records for the domain, but I think they explain it all quite well while running through the setup.

I am in the process of setting up an SPF record, we have full rDNS setup and its related to our domin name (eg rDNS to ip 1.1.1.1 = outmail.ourdomain.com)

Is there any other ways to stop people spamming and spoofing your domain name? eg people are sending mail with [email protected] as the sender. The problem is that loads of mail server just send me spam notification even though the header clearly shows its from a server in japan and nothing to do with our server.

Answer:How to stop people spoofing your domain in emails?

Also known as "joe-jobbing". No, there isn't a way. The receiving servers would have to drop all mail from your domain if it didn't meet certain criteria. Emphasis on receiving servers, as in ones you don't control.

Sucks, but there you go.

Hi Guys,

having an issue that some of the users on our domain have been receiving emails sent from external senders but they appear as having been sent from our domain - "on behalf" of the external users address.

i.e. our domain is say - roman.org
some users are receiving email from say [email protected] however, the message they receive appears to come from [email protected] - on behalf of [email protected]

I am quite confused as to how this is happening since "[email protected]" is not a user on our exchange, nor is the email applied anywhere.
Even if they were using SMTP through the exchange server somehow - our exchange only allows mail to be sent from certain IP addresses, and only allows relay from certain IP's.

Does anyone know how or why this kind of thing is happening and how to put a stop to it?

I have tried searching the net for an explanation but can't seem to find something similar.

thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Solved: Exchange 2010 - Receiving emails from own domain?

Not even been up long and i have found out what was causing this.

Our externally hosted website (which had access to our exchange) had been setup to use SMTP to send email from the contact form on the site.
All these emails were coming from there through our exchange and using randomly generated email addresses from our own domain to send these emails.

We have now updated this so it uses a generic email address, so not to cause anymore confusion of receiving emails from random addresses which look like they are on our domain.

I have added new users on a company network (server 2003). Also set up their new email addresses using Outlook 2007. Now both the new users are able to send emails but are not receiving any.

I tried sending them an email and it was returned with the following message:-

Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.1.1 <[email protected]>... User unknown (state 14).

How can I fix this error so that these users can receive emails?

All assistance highly appreciated

Our small office is not on a domain and uses a simple workgroup.
We can’t receive emails (pop or imap, standard ports) from our domain work email since two days ago when the company providing our internet connection changed/updated something to do with our internet connection (requiring new router credentials and a new IP address).

The STRANGE thing is other email accounts work fine if set up here (using the same kind of ports etc) and our work emails receive fine through other internet connections!
We have been in contact with both the company that provides our internet connection (we have two connections with them, one for pc’s & laptops and one for the phone system - which I've also tested with our email unsuccessfully) and the company that provides the email service. Both companies have not been able to fix this or pin point the problem.

Any ideas much appreciated!

I ordered this item for a friend of mine 3 weeks ago and nothing has arrived the money has been taken from my card. I have sent numerous emails to them the first few were answered with a standard response that sometimes these things take time blah blah blah. Since then I have tried telephoning them but all I get is sorry there is no reply. I am absolutely fuming about this if KNEW WHERE THEY WERE LOCATED I'DE BE OFF DOWN THERE TO SORT THEM OUT but of course they do not show an address.

Answer:order not arriving

Tony, if it is in the U.S., you could contact the Better Business Bureau. I would also try my state's attorney general's office.

Question: email not arriving

My daughter in California has moved and changed her address from one ISP (clearwire) to another(verizon). My first messages to her were ok but now she gets nothing and the message is NOT returned to me. I normally use authsmtp settings but changed back to Orange to try it. The first orange message was ok but now that has failed. A similar situation with Yahoo, first Ok then no luck. I have asked authsmtp to chase and they have send me copies of "delivery receipts" from Verizon. Verizon deny there is a problem at their end. It looks like some form of "sender blocking" after any message is received for the first time . Anyone with any ideas please ?

Answer:email not arriving

You could get her to use Hotmail just to check if it is her Verizon settings

Answer:e-mails not arriving at destination

I am an AOL 6.0 subscriber and I use the AOL system of sending and receiving e-mails.Of late It appears that a very small percentage of my e-mails have not reached the recipient.I know these e-mails were addressed correctly.I am not aware if any of my incoming e-mails have been affected similarly. Is this something that one has to expect from time to time, a bit like letters going astray in the post, or could there be technical reasons specific to my computer, telephone line etc?I would be grateful for any advice. Thank you.

How can I stop emails arriving in duplicate or triplicate? Patsy

Answer:Meails Arriving Twice Or Three Times

Check in your Preferences or Options that the "keep emails on server" is NOT checked. Otherwise, your email server will keep giving you the same emails over and over.

Hope this helps!

Why would an email, created with Windows Mail -(Vista Home) and using "Hand prints" located in - New Message - Message - New using, arrive at is destination, using WinXPPro, yahoo email with the "Hand prints" as an attachment, not as a watermark/background?And can this be rectified?tia

Answer:Watermarks arriving as attachments

Some webmail clients don't show backgrounds by default (Gmail for example), maybe Yahoo compromise and send it as an attachment. Also it's possible that their email virus checker does it.

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Hi,Basically, i'm new to Outlook and the world of internal email. Apologies in advance for asking what is probably an old question.I sent an email with quite a large attachment to someone else in the office. They never received it, yet it appears in my sent folder and I have had no failure notifications.Any ideas where this might have ended up and how it might be accessed?Al help appreciated, thanks in advance!

Answer:email sent in outlook 2007 not arriving

Are you using an Exchange Server? What is a "quite large attachment?"My guess is the recipient probably got the email, but either didn't see it, deleted it, it went to junk, or there's a rule created that sends emails with certain criteria to a specific folder.I would re-send it, selecting the options to receive both a Delivery Receipt and a Read Receipt.id10t

hi people,im new to this forum i keep getting emails that for example say 9;30pm but it is barley 1;30 pm on my actuall time,so its as if its arriving 8 hours ahead of time, what could be the problem? and its the same day.

Answer:email says arriving ahead of time

I doubt the problem is on your end. In all likelihood the issue (problem) is with either your provider's email server location, or the location of the email server where the email originated. I'm guessing that there is no definite number of hours that [all] emails are off; in other words the time could be either correct, or the time could be off by 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. hours.

I am coming here from the "Am I Infected..." section of the forum at the request of boopme. I have been working on this for over a week with his help. I'll mention I'm beginning here with Steps 6 through 9 of the prep guide since we've already done much of the prep steps on the other forum. Below is a link to the other forum section in case you need to read up on the history. We have a desktop, Win XP Pro SP3, ASUS mobo, 1gB RAM, large disk in two partitions - C which is getting full and F: which is 25% full. The system is infected with I can't tell what except that we think it's multiple infections. It has three acccounts, Tim, Tara and Admin. I just established Admin during this cure. After some cleaning on the other "Am I infected..." forum using Tim, it is having the same hard time on Tim to reboot. It has also lost its association with filetype .EXE but we can get around that using Tools off the Win Explorer applet. This only lasts for the session and reverts on a reboot. Symantec's Endpoint Protection will alert that it's blocking intrusions. I have it uplugged from the network most of the time unless I need it to get a signature update. On a reboot off of Tim, you get to the point of "Windows is shutting down" but it leaves the screensaver up and stalls. I have given this a good 20 minutes several times to see if it's just slow. I can tell from the lack of disk activity it's hung and a hard rese... Read more

E-mails I am sending are not arriving with the recipient. I am receiving e-mails. I have sent myself an e-mail from a web source and that has arrived.

Answer:email sent in outlook 2007 not arriving

Send yourself an email using Outlook. If you receive it there is nothing wrong with your email setup. Ask your recipient to check their "Junk Email" folder as your message may have been mistakenly classified as junk.If that's the case then your recipient needs to add your email address to their "Trusted Senders" list.

I have not had any issues with the 3194496.
This follow up fix 3197356 does not show up in my Settings/update. I am not searching for it via Updates.

I could download it manually now with Internet Explorer from the Microsoft Update Catlog page AFTER IE11 was reset yesterday to default then the required Active-X installed. Until yesterday nothing displayed via my IE11.
Otherwise this site Download Windows 10 update KB3197356 manually to fix installation issues has a link that works with Firefox. My Firefox Download says that link is a 6 hour endeavor for me.

If this 3194496 is not installed will there be an effect within Patch Tuesday activity?

Hello Rose,

This cumulative update KB3197356 was to resolve an issue in which some sites do not load in Microsoft Edge after KB3194496 is installed. This issue occurs when a user is on a page that specifies a character encoding hint that isn't present on the computer, and the user browses from that page to a location that uses HTTP redirection.

If you don't have the issue, then you don't need to install it. If you like, you can use the links from Microsoft in the first post below to download and install KB3197356 though.

Hello,

This computer specifically is the only one in my house which is not receiving the November update (Threshold 2 or version 1511, whatever you want to call it)
When checking for updates in Windows Update, it always says it's up to date.

Any reason why this happening?
Two laptops and another desktop (that desktop got upgraded from windows 8 tot windows 10 two days ago and it already has it) did receive the November update, so this issue is not bound to my region not having the update received yet.
I upgraded this PC from windows 7 to 10 back in august, so it is has nothing to do with the 1-month-thingy (not receiving november update because you only upgraded to win10 less than a month ago)
It's running Win10 Home and not Win10 Pro, so it doesn't have that option to postpone updates.
Thank you for your time and effort.

Background info: I recently tried downloading 5.5 SP2 OE after having been using 5.00 and something went wrong and I ended up with 4.72, so I tried reinstalling 5.01, but I ended up with 5.5. (And it only installed 5.00 on IE.) Everything is mixed up, but things seemed to be working OK.

Now I'm having a problem with some (NOT all) of my email arriving in my inbox a day later than when the person sent it or at night when the person had sent it in the morning ..... or as happened this morning, I received an email from two days ago!

I had been getting some error messages the past two days when trying to send/receive mail that had something to do with Norton Pop3 server.

Anyone have any idea what's going on and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Sue

Answer:(Resolved) email is arriving in inbox a day later

SOLVED!!

Gosh--Do I feel dumb! I've never looked at my service provider's website, so I went there to email them to see if they knew what my problem was and I saw there was a status report and it said they had email problems and that some email from 3/11 - 3/13 will be delivered by 3/17. They added more servers and the problem is supposed to be fixed.

Sorry for wasting your time. I tried to delete this post, but it won't let me.

Windows 8.2 will be a Service Pack release for Windows 8.1 and will include features promised at the BUILD conference earlier this year but not found in Windows 8.1 Update 1. This will include a new Start Menu, which combines the icon-based menu of Windows 7 with a Windows Phone-inspired Live Tile bar.Click to expand...

Take it with a grain of salt the size of a VW Beetle. The information was taken from WZOR, a Russian pirate group.

Windows 8.2 is supposed to be the final update to Windows 8 before Windows 9 is released in 2015, supposedly. WZOR is unsure whether or not Windows 9 will be a free update/upgrade to Windows 8/free release, or a discounted release for existing Windows 8 users.
The new software will probably give hints about what will be inside Windows 9. The rumour comes from the Russian pirate group WZOR which claims to be in possession of critical information regarding Microsoft's planned release schedule. Windows 8.2 is expected to be the last update to the Windows 8 family, with the next launch being Windows 9 and bringing with it even more serious changes to the divisive user interface first introduced in Windows 8.Click to expand...

"with the next launch being Windows 9 and bringing with it even more serious changes to the divisive user interface first introduced in Windows 8"

so for anyone who doesn't already have Windows 8 the better move would be to just wait for Windows 9...what's taking so long for MS to release 8.2 with the new Start menu?...a better move would be to release 8.2 in the May-July time period

New to community.  Just ordered Yoga 910 as indicated above.  Specifically model # 80VF00FRUS.  I've read numerous reviews and see two adjustments that are required to address the fan and heat issues: 1. BIOS update and set "Quiet Mode"  2. Uninstall the QUALCOMM WLAN installer/driver. Is there anything else that I should do as the "first things" before I begin installing software and transfering my data files from my previous computer (ASUS ROG G74s) ? The Yoga 910 I ordered states that the anniversary date is April 2017.  Possibly, the fan noise and heat issues have been resolved by Lenovo ??? Thank you, Ray

Are others suffering from this?Over the last week or so I've received a number of spam type emails with attachments. The email text often relates to some ficticious service or other (they vary) and associated fees with an apparent invoice attached (in a zip file - again the file names vary). The first one of these that I received was picked up by AVG (on my lappie, where the OE settings are set to leave messages on the server), but not by avast on my desktop (where I subsequently downloaded it to).Earlier today I received one on the desktop PC that wasn't picked up by avast, but when I tried forwarding it to another email account avast detected something (its database had been updated between receipt and teh attempt to forward).I've just received another one on the desktop PC which avast didn't pick up. So I forwaded it to another email account and received it on the lappie and AVG didn't detect anything (but I'm pretty certain that it is malicious due to the nature of it).SO, it rather seems that this spate is not just one thing (i.e. with one virus signature), but a whole host of them - and by the sounds of it with new variants being created all the time (as evidence by my experince with AVG and avast). As I asked at the top - anyone else having similar?

Answer:Spate of viruses arriving as email attachments

I get them. Just quickly delete. Don't open or forward anything suspicious.

Hi all -

This laptop Asus KSeries 15.6" Laptop 4GB Memory 500GB Hard Drive K55A-SI50301P - Best Buy
arrives here tomorrow.

Need Win8 knowledgeable advice on how to keep the Factory Preinstalled Win8 in place, shrink C to install Win7 to road test them side by side.

The reason I'd like to keep the factory install onboard is because I want the option of returning it to Best Buy in 15 days for a full refund.

If it's not possible to Dual Boot in this way, I guess I could generate the Recovery Disks, wipe the HD to reinstall Win7 in UEFI or Legacy mode, then install Win8 to Dual Boot the way I've done before.

However it's compelling to leave the Win8 preinstall because I'm assured the Asus is optimized for Win8, and want to give it a chance to show its stuff with this supposed optimization. Do you agree that such optimization offers better performance if the factory preinstall is left onboard? If so I should probably run just that for a few days at least to have something to compare if/when I reinstall the Dual Boot. Later running Recovery disks could recoup it to the way it came, no doubt?

Another consideration is that with 4gb RAM I'd also like to test both 64- and 32-bit Win7 to judge better whether I want the RAM upgrade afterwards.

Now that you (hopefully) have a better idea of what I'd like to do in the 15-day trial period road testing this laptop with Win8 and Win7 ideally dual-booted, and Win7 in both 32- and 64-bit, can you suggest the best way to ... Read more

Answer:New Win8 laptop arriving, wish to Dual Boot with Seven

Hello Greg. I think you are already quite knowledgeable and experienced.
A side by side comparison, IMO, will not yield much if one does not like the metro UI.

IMO, Windows 8 is about immersive apps and a metro / desktop edge UI multitasking environment. IMO, Windows 8 can be configured to emulate a purely desktop OS, but that will require an interest in ignoring the start screen, apps area, the edges, charms, and immersive applications.

Windows 8 is a purely desktop OS if you choose to use it that way. However, the metro UI start menu (so to speak), (start screen and apps area, etc...) is immersive, and as you are quite aware, lots of folks don't like it!

Do you agree that such optimization offers better performance if the factory preinstall is left onboard?

I doubt that such optimization (with a dual boot configuration) will offer better performance over a clean single boot installation. Best of Luck with the new Asus.

The reason I'd like to keep the factory install onboard is because I want the option of returning it to Best Buy in 15 days for a full refund.

can you suggest the best way to go about it to touch all bases yet still have it recoverable to exact factory condition in case I decide to package it up and take it back for full refund?

I would definitely image the factory installation to an external drive first, so that any testing does not inte... Read more

I use Outlook 2002 from XP office suite, (NOT Outlook Express). Although messages are supposed to arrive chronologically, I often receive messages which I have to go searching for as if they were sent three days ago, or three weeks ago, or longer, when in fact, they are a current message. Any idea how to solve this?

Answer:using Outlook 2002, mesages arriving out of date

yep, you maybe have the order sorted by name or something.

In outlook you have titles across the top of the page

cant rememeber thenm all but

flags/priority/name/subject/received

if you click on the grey area of the title it will sort -
if that sorts say a-z if you click again that will sort z-a or visa-versa

so if you click onm received date then it will sort - so you new mails will be at top or bottom - then click again and the order will reverse

let me know if that works

I have a recurring problem that is getting quite bothersome to be operating around. My issue is that about twenty seconds or so after I initially get to my desktop after logging into my computer the screen and seemingly the entire computer up and freezes, with neither the touchpad or the center keyboard mouse working. Ctrl-Alt-Delete does nothing, and the keyboard itself seems to go dead as well, forcing me to force a shutdown and only operate in Safe Mode. This has all occurred after I was tweaking the graphics display and the computer lagged a bit and froze, which i thought to not be a major problem until I tried shutting it down and restarting it, which is when the problem arose. I have Windows 7 Professional 32bit and the computer is a Lenovo X201 Tablet.

Hi:

I have a Humpty-Dumpty question here. I have a client who sends me email (from outlook or O express, I think) over one of the rr.com email services. Some of the items she sends gets broken up into tiny bits- so i get, say, 3 or 5 or 64 emails, each containing one part of the total attachment.

Ok, so I'd rather tell her how to send it in one lump, but if you can't tell me that, can you tell me why and how this is happening and how i can put it all back together again?

thanks so much,

elizabeth

Answer:Email attachments arriving in pieces- humpty dumpty

If you would use Outlook Express, it should assemble all the pieces back into 1 email. If not, you will see the pieces.

Have her go here and uncheck "Break apart messages larger than xxx"
OE->Tools->Accounts->Properties->Advanced Tab

I've found that when I receive e-mails from certain people there is nothing in the body of the base e-mail but rather the e-mail the other party sent is an attachment. Would anyone know why this is and what I can do about it?

Hi,

probably a very simple answer to this hopefully. Every week someone sends me a Word doc usually titled something like

Reviews 94 August 2012 week three.doc

to three email accounts, a yahoo account, an POP3 account serviced by Outlook 2007, and a POP3 account serviced by Thunderbird 14.0 (these two are on the same machine.)

Since we switched hosting, the emails never come through to the Outlook and Thunderbird accounts. Other word attachments do get through from the same sender, as do every other type of attachment. The attachments in question are usually no more than 80KB.

I have whitelisted the sender in the Plesk control panel, that didn't make any difference. I have also spoken to the host but they seem to think it's getting stopped somewhere in transit as they can't see the emails in question arriving on their mail servers having given them specific time/dates.

Zipping the file means it does get through to the Thunderbird and Outlook accounts, but the person sending is somewhat of a luddite and I would prefer them not to have to do an extra step. Plus, it irks me that there is a problem at all. I still think it is something to do with the current host given the timing of the problem starting, but...

I have uploaded an example of what is getting stopped. Any suggestions? I have tried renaming the files etc.

many thanks in advance for any help,

Jonathan

Answer:Solved: Word doc not arriving at Outlook / Thunderbird, but zipped file will. Why?

I would suspect your current host as well since it gets to Yahoo without problem.

A quick look shows some strange characters below the title in the Doc on the TM line.
It might be getting blocked by their security.
Try removing that line and see if it will go through.

Answer:sending multiple outgoing messages and all arriving to receipient encrypted

What are you using for an E-Mail client? Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird? When you forward, what format is the e-mail in? Are there attachments that the recipient does not have applications to read them?

The more detail the better the chance someone here can help you solve this issue.

Sometime around New Year's, my PC has become infected with malware. When I click on a resulting natural search listing in either Google or Yahoo!, I'm taken to an unwanted site. I can click back and forth twice before arriving at the listed site.

So far, I've run:
- Ad-Aware
- CWShredder
- Spybot Search & Destroy
- Hijack This
- Pest Patrol
- Micros Trend OfficeScan
- Micros HouseCall
- and the new Windows Anti-Spyware.

I haven't tried these in "safe mode" yet.

Any suggestions what to do next? I'm running Windows XP Professional.

So I have win 7 laptop with a local account (well call it admin). I join the laptop to a domain, I can login as a domain user fine, but now the admin account is disabled. So I remove the laptop from the domain. The admin account is still disabled. How can I get this account enabled again? I can still get into to safe mode as the administrator but the admin account doesn't show up there under user accounts.

edit: Nvm, i was able to find the account under the administrator account the domain sets up.

Answer:Joining a domain disabled local account, removing from domain didn't enable it.

You will have to log in as an admin enable it. Removing a computer doesn't change anything other than the domain it belongs to. If changes were made while it was a member of the domain, you will have to manually undo them if you want them un-done.

Hello,
Currently we are in the middle of a migration project. We are migrating users from child domains to the root domain of one organization.
The user accounts are migrated with powershell using Move-ADObject cmdlet. This works as expected. The SIDHistory attribute is updated correctly.
Recently we received complaints from some *migrated* users - they lost their default/custom file associations. This happens only on Windows 8/Windows 8.1.
What happens:

the user is migrated and logs onher profile loads and everything's preserved (as expected)the user clicks on a .jpeg file (previously associated with program XYZ)OS asks the user to choose a program to open the file withthe user chooses a default program XYZ and the file openswhen the user clicks on a .jpeg file again - OS asks to choose a program again
i.e. the settings are not preserved.

Our investigation shows that it is connected with the UserChoice registry key and the HASH value under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.SomeExt

According to this blog
the HASH is calculated based on user's SID. But after the migration the user has new SID and the HASH becomes invalid and we hit this:
"However In Win 8, the registry changes are verified by a hash (unique per user and app)  that detects tampering by apps. In the absence of a valid hash, we ignore the default in the registry."

When I attempt to add domain controller to existing domain in server manager I get a message saying that the domain controller for the domain cannot be contacted even though I can ping the IP of the DC. However when I run DFSDiag /TestDCs /DOMAIN:HOMELAB.COM I get an error saying either the specified domain doesn't exist or could not be contacted. I have my DNS settings on the ethernet adapter pointed at the DC IP. Not sure what else to do.... A little help would go a long way.

I'm running into a problem with connecting to network drives over a VPN. The common difference is whether or not the computer is part of the domain by default.

1) Computers connecting to VPN using local account on computer: Prompted for a domain login when attempting to use the network drives. Can get in.

2) Computers connecting to VPN using a domain account (but on another network): Unable to connect. Specific error changed based on below info.
A) Computer logged on and connected to an outside network. Never connected to domain network: Can't find folder error.
B) Connects to domain network at some point before connecting to an outside network and using VPN: Might be in use error, attached.

Answer:VPN Network Shared Drive Error Domain/Non-Domain Differences

Sounds more like the network the VPN connection puts you in has trouble making kerberos connections to domain controllers, but NTLM connections work fine (kerb might be blocked). The errors are likely bogus if you can get #1 to work - if the computer is connected to a domain it's going to want to use Kerb before NTLM, and if the machine still has (what it thinks is) a viable kerb ticket, it's going to try and validate that with a DC (to achieve auth), and if this fails, so does the connection.

This may not actually be the case, of course, but it sure has the symptoms of it.

hi

i have changed the domain of the computer (from say old.net to new.net).
there is a folder shared on another machine on old.net domain. the user X was able to access it. aftter changing his domain from old.net to new.net he no longer can access that shared folder.
User X has working credentials for both domains.

on accessing it it asks for credentials. upon entering his correct user name in the format (old.net\X) he is not able to access it.

i had exactly same setup with another user Y and he was able to access data .

is there anything that i am missing ?

also accessing that folder first time asked for credentials but now it doesnt asks .. why ? there is nothign in credentials manager.

regards

Answer:cannot access shared folder after changing domain with old domain cred

Hello,

Have you removed/re-added the User's credentials (from the PC with shared folder) with the new domain name?
Also, make sure that the shared folder has Everyone permission in the Security Tab.

Dear Community,

My company use around 700 desktops and laptops on a domain. our file server has a home share drive that the AD links to and then maps when a user logs onto any machine when using their domain account. my problem when I log onto my normal laptop
it says network name is no longer available. when I log onto another machine it connects and maps normally. all other servers UNC name works normally. I can ping it by DNS and IP and can RDP to it but not see any shares.

Please can you help?

Hi,

I hit major problems yesterday when a power surge killed my server (despite ups/surge protection!). We have a small set up of 15 win2k machines and one Windows server 2003 all connected under a domain.

Basically all user machines were unaffected but my only method of getting us up and running was installing a fresh version of 2003 server on a new machine. i followed this guide and configured it to use the same domain as last time (hoping that all the client machines would carry on as they were before the server out). i've managed to set up access to shared drives hosted on the network. That is working.

However i am now having these problems on all client machines

Client machines cannot connect to shared printers from another client machine. - Logging on as an administrator to their machine locally (not domain) you can add and print. Simply changing their policies to admin does not allow them access.
Each machines is still connected to the domain (so it says) but if you take them off and try to put them back on the domain i get this error:the following error occurred attempting to join the domain " ". network path was not found
If somebody can help me out i would be very gratefull. I'm alright with basic networking but have never installed Win server from fresh. I like to think i've just missed a simple checkbox or similar!? I've basically followed the guide and have done little else in way of changes, so you should be able to get a good i... Read more

Here is the scoop ... Two networks connected via frame relay line. Two different PDCs and domain names. Can ping internal IP address, but can not browse through Network Neighborhood. Set up WINS on both and when trying to get them to share info I get Connection was aborted by the remote WINS in the event log. I can see the IP addresses for the remote network through the DHCP manager. Any ideas on what I should do to be able to browse the remote network and also set it up so that I can administer it remotely, would be greatly appreciated.

We have been getting sporadic reports from our users of the error, "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed."  The workaround has been to dejoin and rejoin the domain, but it keeps happening and we need a permanent
fix.  We are primarily a laptop shop.
It has been suggested we disable the automatic machine accouint password change on our domain members in GPO.  While this may be a viable option with relatively low security risks, I'd really like to figure out why it's happening and try to
fix it.
The machines can lose the trust relationship at random.  It can happen overnight, or after going into hibernation.  I've had it happen to me a few times.  The DCs (we have 2) both show error 5722, but one is spitting out a specific Kerberos
error that the other one is not:

While processing an AS request for target service krbtgt, the account kriegesh did not have a suitable key for generating a Kerberos ticket (the missing key has an ID of 2).
The requested etypes : 18. The accounts available etypes : 23  -133  -128  3  1. Changing or resetting the password of kriegesh will generate a proper key.
My main issue is trying to determine why this continues happening and if we can resolve it without disabling the account password.  If that IS our best option, then so be it.  Any
thoughts are welcome.
Thank you very much in advance!  ~Sarah

OK, there's something I just can't figure out:

I am trying to add a second Windows 2000 domain controller to our current domain. I don't want to add another domain or a sub-domain...just a second DC for our current domain for redundancy and load balancing. Eventually, when we open our branch (I work at a credit union) the new DC will be relocated there to serve the DNS, WINS, and print server requests of the workstations at the branch. At the main office here, we use 192.168.1.X private IP's with a 24-bit subnet. At the new branch, we will be using 192.168.2.X IP's with a 24-bit subnet. The main office and the branch will be connected two ways: a T1 between routers, and via VPN through business-class DSL that the main office currently has and the branch will have when we set it up.

Our original DC, which will stay here at the main office, is serving DNS and WINS. I want the new DC to serve DNS and WINS as well. I want each domain controller to be able to server DNS and WINS for both the 192.168.1.X and 192.168.2.X networks in case one of the DC's goes down. Everything (AD, DNS, WINS) needs to be replicated because of this.

So, I have the new DC on the network (currently on the 192.168.1.X network), and I have setup AD on it. Everything has transferred fine as far as AD Users and Computers, etc. I setup DNS on the new DC, and the Forward Lookup Zone seems to have transferred fine. I then created a Standard Secondary Reverse Lookup Zone on... Read more

Answer:Adding second Domain Controller to Windows 2000 domain

Make sure all your DNS zones, forward and reverse are Active Directory integrated. You don't need forwarders between them in any configuration. AD integrated zones will trade zone information automatically through AD replication. You don't need to manually create any of the nameserver records either. Either server will be considered authoritative for any zone it stores (and they'll both be storing identical copies of all the zones you have.)

Having both DC's as GC's is a very good idea. If one DC fails and it's the only GC you'll have a hell of a time getting your GC back. There is an island issue with GC's if it happens to be on the Infrastructure Master, but that only applies in a multi-domain environment, and only if there are other non-GC DC's in the forest. In short, you don't have to worry about whether or not your Infrastructure Master is a GC in your setup.

WINS setup sounds fine as well. WINS is AD unaware and can be considered on it's own. In any event, it's best to have all your clients at both locations set with DNS and WINS server settings in the IP configurations to point to their local WINS/DNS as primary and the remote WINS/DNS as secondary. We're also combining DNS and WINS on the same DC's for a large worldwide forest (over 350 locations) and haven't had a problem yet (DNS and WINS only installed at hub sites, not at branches.)

I strongly recommend considering 2003 t... Read more

Any help would be greatly apriciated on this.
We have a Windows 2003 Active Directory domain. I am located at the UK head quaters which acts as a hub for remote sites including our US head quaters. We have a site in the UK that has a local Domain Controller. But some of the clients wont use it. But the wierd thing is that many of them skip the DCs at the UK HQ and go straight to a DC in the US.

Anyone got any ideas why this would happen. the DC is fully registered in DNS and is it's self a DNS server that the local clients are useing.

Answer:Clients in W2k3 AD Domain Sign on to a DC in the wrong domain

what operating system are the clients running? the client pcs are members of the a/d domain, right?

do you have your subnets assigned to the correct sites in active directory sites & services?

did you create your domain controllers locally and then ship them to the remote locations, or did you promote the servers after they were located at their sites?

Can I access a network share on the domain with a non-domain computer? I would connect the computer directly to the corporate network.
For what reasons could this be blocked (firewall? policy? settings on server-side?) and what configuration is needed to make sure it is possible to access a network share with a non-domain computer?

Ok, I'm currently being hosted with Dreamhost.com, but my domain is with FXDomains.com. How do I make it so that the domain I have at FXDomains.com will work like the domain I have at Dreamhost.com, for example FXDomains.com provides me with the domain x.com, however Dreamhost.com provides me with y.com. I want to make it so that when someone goes to x.com, it behaves like y.com, such as x.com/forums would go the same place as y.com/forums It's not domain forwarding, it's something ro do with DNS or something. I changed my FXDomains.com's DNS thing to NS1.DREAMHOST.COM, NS2.DREAMHOST.COM & NS3.DREAMHOST.COM so what do I do now?
