Windows 7 Toshiba Satellite L500 sound quality is very low

Question: Windows 7 Toshiba Satellite L500 sound quality is very low

Hope I've got this in the right place.

Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"

This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.

I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not an expert and don't know where else to look to improve the quality.
Can't believe it is supposed to be like this.

Answer:Satellite L500 sound quality is very low

Wait a moment.
Is your notebook delivered with preinstalled Win7 (factory settings)?
Have you noticed this from the first day or now after Win7 installation?
Have you tried to change sound settings in player you use (equaliser)?

To compare it with old notebook is not so relevant. I have 4 years old Satellite M70 with harman/kardon speakers and sound is fabulous and much better and louder than on newer Satellite A300.

IN TOSHIBA SATELLITE L500 WHILE USING WINDOWS 7 64 BIT OPERATING SYSTEM ALL FUNCTION KEYS ARE NOT WORKING ONLY F11 IS WORKING AND SPECIALLY WIRELESS KEY ON OFF IS NOT WORKING I AM FACING TOO MUCH PROBLEM ANY CAN HELP REGARDING THIS PROBLEM

Answer:Wireless not working in toshiba satellite l500 in windows 7

For a start, turn off CAPS LOCK - it's considered to be shouting & many will ignore you.Did the laptop come with Windows 7 or have you installed it later? Are you sure there are drivers available for the wireless card - check the manufacturer's website if necessary. Some Toshiba laptops have a separate wireless switch on the front edge - if it's there make sure it is in the 'on' position. The usual key combination, as far as I recall, is Fn and F8 pressed at the same time (not F8 on its own) - there should be an LED that lights up on the front edge of the laptop when the wireless adapter is on."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." I have a Toshiba Satellite C55D-A5107 with a 750gb harddrive, AMD A6 quad-core, and 4 gig ram. It runs on windows 8.1 and uses Realtek High Definition Audio as its default audio drive. My laptop sounds like trash. The sound is so low quality it's practically akin to an AM radio. Using headphones doesn't fix the problem, it only puts the problem closer to my ears. Here's what I've tried and discovered thus far:

I've tried uninstalling the Realtek audio drive in place of other ones on the realtek website. None were helpful.
I've tried using an audio drive from Toshiba themselves. It wasn't compatible with my laptop, despite it being designed for my exact system.
I've tried uninstalling all audio drives and restarting my laptop. Most of the time it caused the system to default back to the Realtek drive, but there was one time that it ended up using default windows 8 HD audio drives (I don't know what caused it and I haven't gotten it to do this again since).
There is no headphone setting when the Realtek drive is installed, only speakers. The only time a headphone setting was displayed was when it used the windows 8 drive. Even so, this caused the headphones to produce no sound at all.
By checking the box under the enhancement tab in the audio settings that reads "Disable all sound affects", I noticed that it completely fixed the audio. However, this setting reverts constantly, even though the box itself remains checked. For example, whenever I switch to a different video... Read more

I've already posted this in the Multimedia section but thought it probably belonged here instead.

I was wondering if anyone else who had this laptop find that the display looks a bit like you can see lines on the screen of where the pixels join? It's not always visible but just looking at it right now in my Firefox browser, the area where all the toolbars are looks like the colour isn't blended together.

Is there any adjustment I can make to improve this?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L500-19X - How to improve display quality?

It is not easy to discuss about something that isn?t visible for all of us here. I have two Toshiba notebooks, use Firefox too but I don't see something strange there. To be honest I don't see any difference on displays on my Satellite A300 and brand new Satellite A500.

In my opinion there is no much you can do. What you can do is to change display resolution, the size of the text or calibrate color but if this will help.
Try to play with all these settings.
Is there some other situation where you can see this strange color?

Hi all,

I'm newly joined here in the forum and I am looking for a sound driver for my Satellite L500-1EJ model laptop which I bought last year here in Doha.

I am really surprised that the model number is not available in Toshiba driver download website!! ??

Can anyone help me please?? I am using Windows XP, service pack 2 now.

Regards

Answer:Satellite L500-1EJ - Looking for Windows XP sound driver

Hi shihabuhashim,

Why is the model number not available on Toshiba website? Where have you searched?

I have checked the Toshiba website and I can find it:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download drivers
Notebook > Satellite > Satellite L Series > Satellite L500 > PSLS0E > Windows XP
(Satellite L500-1EJ belongs to PSLS0E series)

Now download the sound driver that you need but it?s recommendable installing Service Pack 3 before you start with driver installation because it contains important updates.

Hi,
I cannot get my Toshiba Satellite L500 13T PSLJ3E to work. Here is the timeline:

1. I brought it with Win Vista, It worked great for about 6 months but started slowing down and I decided to change it to Windows 7

2. I installed the Windows 7 using custom install(creating new "windows" folder, not upgrading Vista). Once again it worked great for about a month, but once again it ran into trouble - showing the Windows 7 version of the blue screen of death for 0.5 seconds followed by a restart.

3. I browsed the net and they said that the easiest way to get rid of the problem is to re-install. I did it(after trying several windows repairs) but yes, thats right, it died - before starting the windows it showed problems with Realtek Wireless.

4. I had hopes that third time - the charm will work and re-re-installed the W7(every time using new installation).
Once more time - doesnt work, but this time I cannot even get to install it - the windows installer stops at around 60% of the expanding files and says: problems with the media device. And after the restart I cannot find the Hard Drive(the BIOS shows only FDD and CD/DVD)

Now I'm stuck here, the only way to start the windows is by Safe Mode on my Wondows installed on point 3, yet not every time .
Unfortunately the first of my Recovery DVDs cannot start and on top of that I cannot enter into the recovery partition by pressing 0 at start up, but I see the Recovery Partition when I go to the WIndows in... Read more

Answer:Cannot run the OS on Toshiba Satellite L500

Blue screen and then restart sound's like something with hardware is wrong. I had something like that when my RAM module failed. Check your memory using memtest.

PS. I will not recommend installing windows on windows and reinstalling it. Better format drive and install new clean OS.

edit: or maybe something with your hard drive - if you had an option pull out you hard drive and check it on another computer using HDtune (or something like that)

Hi, I bought Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W and it came with Windows Vista. I tried to downgrade to XP, but it doesn't allow XP installation. Do you know how to downgrade?

Thanks!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W downgrade to XP

Hello & Welcome, toshibaquestion.

Downgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP is actually a very easy thing to do, BUT, I must warn you; it's the smartest of ideas since Windows XP and Windows Vista differ in driver capability and efficiency. So when you want to you use your MIC or Webcam, they may not work, this goes for your Audio, Network and even Display.

Also, Toshiba's a popular brand, and also a very updated** one, meaning they'll most likely be packed with a webcam, nice wireless card, hi-def monitor, etc - meaning, lots more drivers for you to fuss about and have to replace - which, believe me, isn't fun at all.

Downgrading would require you to actually make a partition (D), then install XP on your partition (D), and then delete your previous partition (C) - This is how I would do it, but I'm sure there's many many many other ways.

Dabble into it abit, and see if you find anything interesting. I'll be here to answer any further questions you may have.

Hello!

I've bought Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef November, and until now laptop worked brilliant. Three-four weeks ago, touchpad, and some space on the left of the touchpad started to be warm. I checked CPU temperature in Toshiba PC Health Monitor (v 1.4.1.64), and it was circa 30%, with 40% use of the cooler. The temperature is incresing in time, and now, after four weeks, touchpad is warmer, and it's about 45-50% temperature od CPU, with 50-60% use of the cooler.

I'm using laptop only for Internet, work in MS Word, and listening music, sometimes I play Warcraft III on it, I've got Windows 7.

Should I go with PC to technical support, or it's normal in my model?

Best regards,

Answer:CPU temperature in Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef

Hi mate

It?s nothing unusual that the touchpad would be warm since the CPU and cooling modules are placed near the touchpad.
So in my opinion you should not be worried about that.

The notebook?s temperature can increase after some time of usage?
This happens due to dust inside the cooling ventilators?
If you want, you can try to remove the dust using the compressed air spray?
I do this from time to time and this helps to keep the temperature on lower level?

Just wondering how to reinstall it back onto the main partition

I tried F8 and it took me to a screen to choose language but after that it said "You must log in to access system recovery options"

I guess user data has been wiped from the main partition ?

Are there any other keys to press on startup to access the Recovery partition ?

No disply on my toshiba satellite L500,power supply led is getting on .

Answer:Toshiba satellite L500 not working, No disply

If you still get lights on the edge of the laptop & you can hear the fan spinning and harddisk clicking a bit but nothing at all is appearing on the display then it's either the screen or the power inverter that have gone. Either way it's not really something you can do yourself, take it to a technician to sort out. If you are not getting any lights, fan or clicking sound then it is a power issue - the LED doesn't necessarily mean that the power supply is ok. Again, not much you can do yourself, take it to an expert."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

I would purchase a can of compressed air or use an air compressor (with a light gentle nozzle) and blow the dust out of the inside. If you have a failed cooling fan, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. That model I think is rather old, it may not be worth it to repair.

OK so i have just received an older laptop that im trying to resurrect.

O/S : Windows 7Model : Toshiba satellite L500 PSLS3A-04M002Battery model NO : PA3534U-1BRS
It died a few days ago and refuses to boot, press the power button -> power LED glows briefly and goes out.
As it's a smart battery you can't boot directly off the AC adaptor because it's expecting a signal over the SMBus (IIRC) power LED doesn't even light up with A/C only with the battery is removed.
I believe it's the battery.
First because i disassembled the laptop, cleaned it, and put it back together, nothing seemed wrong with other system components.
Second, it's only a small 3620mAh Li-ion that (AFAIK) hasn't been changed since the laptop was bought (roughly 2011/2012) so im thinking the charge cycles have been well and truly used up.
OK no problem, searched around online using the battery model number (above), found a replacement

Cool, battery's enroute, should be here in the next few days.

Now the interesting part... When i go on Toshiba's site to look for some specs/drivers... the Laptop model doesn't exist, even under the discontinued models section... But there are a whole bunch of other models :

Hello,
My friend's in the market for a new computer; for various reasons, it looks like Toshiba will be the brand of choice.
(foremost among them being local-area service/support in Indonesia, where she'll be for 3+ years).
That said, the only Toshibas that we've been able to get some hands-on 'look and feel' sessions with were
the Satellites (i.e. the entry-level machines); they were... OK... the build quality felt... well, retail-ish =p
Anyone have experience with the next tier up, the Satellite Pro models?
Presumably the build quality is at least on par with the Satellites; any better? Appreciablly better, that is?
If simply on par, she may as well get a Satellite and take her chances...
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 PSLS0A-019002 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed that I received two months ago as a gift.

Apart from disliking some the quirky and useless (to me) Windows Vista / 7 features, as the desktop is loading I get the error message "Toshiba Service Station has stopped working" which proceeds to find a solution, but apparently never finds one because this condition repeats itself every time I boot.

On another thread in these Toshiba forums, someone suggested downloading the independent utility called Toshiba Service Station and reinstalling it. I do not see such utility listed on the downloads page for my Toshiba model. Since I don't even know what the Toshiba Service Station does (unless it goes by another name - Toshiba Bulletin Board perhaps?), I have no idea what is causing the error or how to correct it.

Hi,
I hope you can help with my sound issues!

I have a Satellite L500 that is 18mth old.

*Problem One*
Back in March I was having problems with my mic/sound. If I had my volume over 50% I would get a terrible squealing feedback sound that was difficult to mute (ie had to press mute a couple of times).

As I had a 2 year warranty I sent it away and they said they fixed it but it was only short term. The problem came right back. The only solution I found to having sound volume over 50% was to completely disable the mic.

*Problem Two*
For the last few weeks I have been randomly getting this high pitched, ongoing squealing sound which usually occurs when I am out in public with my laptop in my backpack (embarrassing!). I have to keep pressing mute to get the squeal to stop. Interestingly, my laptop is muted when it starts. Sometimes my laptop is hot when it occurs. Is this problem due to overheating?

Any solutions for both of my sound issues? Should I send it back to get repaired under my warranty? When I argued that it wasn't fixed the first time, they said Windows is probably corrupt and that isn't under warranty.

Thanks!

Kat

This should help you:

+Whistling sound on the Satellite L500+
+http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0402UB0001R01.htm+

This issue occurs if the microphone volume in the speakers properties is enabled.
After disabling this point the issue with acoustic feedback does not appear anymore.

So this is not a hardware problem but setting issue. Using right settings will help you.

Hi!

I would like to ask for your help in the following problem:

I bought a Satellite L500-14F (PLSJTE) and I would like to use it with windows XP, but I failed to get the sound driver.

I would really appreciate your help!
Thx!

Answer:Satellite L500-14F - Need sound driver for XP

Hi

The Satellite L500 doesn?t support Windows XP so you have to search on external websites for drivers.

In your case I would search on the manufactures website of the sound chip. Normally there you can also download the sound driver.

And don?t forget to install SP3 before you install the sound driver. SP3 contains 2 Hotfixes for High Definition Audio cards and you will need it!!!

Hi Alec_1,

Do you have already tried an alternative media player like VLC media player? In my opinion it?s the best freeware player you can have because it playes all audio and video files. You can download the player here:

Have you already tried updating the sound driver? You can download the newest driver on official Toshiba website. :)

Hi buddy,

To be honest I don?t know what problems you have with the sound driver but that?s the correct place for all drivers:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
Notebook > Satellite > Satellite L Series > Satellite L500 > PSLS0E

But before you install the latest version, remove the current version firstly and clean the registry using CCleaner

Hello

I have bought a new Toshiba laptop yesterday and started using from today afternoon but since then I am experiencing a crackling noise from my right speaker I want to whether there is any problem or it?s because of the moisture.

Answer:Crackling sound from new Satellite L500-1XC right speaker

It is not easy to say what is wrong there but if you have this crackling sound permanently maybe is there some serious problem with the speaker.
Try to contact your local dealer as soon as possible and ask for replacement. In my opinion he should take the notebook back and give you new product.

Hi there,

I had a P35-609 and just bought P100-347. I have noticed that the sound is worse on the new laptop. It's like the cheapest speakers on the market and not harman/kardon... what's wrong?

Is it a fault of my unit or you guys have experienced the same?

Answer:Sound quality on Satellite P100-347 - no bass, very flat sound

Hi

I?m not a P100 owner and therefore I cannot give you an opinion about the sound quality on this notebook. But according to the notebook specifications the speakers are definitely harman/kardon.

I have read some threads about the sound issues on the P100 and found also this Toshiba document:
http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB6801JF0000R01.htm

It?s about the crackling noise on P100. The BIOS and driver update should be done.

Greetings,

My name is Boyan and I am from Bulgaria and about an year ago I've bought a satellite laptop from the l500 series ( i can not state which exactly is the model at the moment because my computer is not currently with me and on my user manual the only thing which is stated is that it is for L500/L505/ L500D / L505D . But by memory I think it was the Satellite L500D-ST5506 which is currently not at my dispossal because I gave it for repair for the same problem which I will state down below)

The problem with my laptop is that when I plug a Usb Audio card in my laptop I have a cracking sound when live sound is played trough the speakers/headphones from the external card. I've tried numerous audio cards and speakers/headpohnes which work perfectly fine with other computer, including laptops but the same problem keeps on showing up in the headphones/speakers of my laptop when I am using an external audio card to connect them to the laptop.

The problem is prominent only when the sound signal passes trough an external audio card and it is very annyoing since I use my laptop to create music and i've bought an expenssive audio card and speakers which can not be used with the laptop. I've tried 3 models of audio cards:

M-Audio Fast Track Pro

Behringer uca 222

and a simple external 3d sound usb audio card and the problem still appears.

I have just purchased a toshiba Satellite L500-13v laptop to use for general and studying purposes and am having problems.

Firstly music, when listening to music i keep having problems, the laptop will maka a horrible noise that i can only compare to the sound made when you put a cd into your car stereo and it doesn't like it.

When making this sound the laptop also seems to pause for a sec or so then continue.
This has happened when playing from cds, the hardrive and streaming straight form the internet.
Also got progressivelly worse, never at the same moment on a song or game always randomly.

Went back to the store and they said it sounds faulty and replaced the machine . . . . . .
The new one has started doing it.
On a game played online (with sound) it seemed to freeze and make this sound and everything stopped and also when streaming again.

This is a 4gb machine and at these times i would never be using more than 1.5 gb of ram.

This is meant to be everything i need computer wise for the next four and i am getting more and more concerned there is a problem.
I was told at the store this i a very new model, could this be one of those problems you only find once a model goes out??

Plese Help???????

Answer:Satellite L500-13v freeze and make sound while playing online game

Does this mean that the notebook freezes ONLY running this online game?
Hmm? did you try to update the graphic card driver?

In my experience many games (online) would affect the notebooks functionality if the graphic card driver is not fully compatible or too old?

Hi everybody.

I have a very strange problem with my new notebook. I have new Satellite A300D-14U notebook. I have installed XP and all drivers but recently I have noticed such problem. When media player or Winamp (or etc.) plays and I get a message in Skype, MSN or there is any other action with sound, then the major sound changes.

I mean the quality of sound changes rapidly. Like mono to stereo, like equalizer is turned on at that moment. After that it stays for about 2-3 mins and gets back to previous state. The problem is that that change is awesome and I would like it would be always like that. For some moment I started to wonder do I really usually hear stereo from those "harman/kardons"?

I have tried to reinstall drivers, all updates are installed, SP3. Any idea what can it be?

P.S. I always get clear sound, but I'd like to get best of it.

The sound card is manufactured by Conexant.

Win Xp SP2
KB888111
Display driver
Chipset driver
LAN driver
W-lan driver
Sound driver

Has anybody an idea to solve my problem?

Answer:Satellite P300-1FC - bad sound quality using Win XP

Hello

I have Satellite Pro P300 (PSPCDE) with the same sound card. Satellite and Satellite Pro have exact the same hardware configuration just my Satellite Pro is delivered with Vista Business and your one probably with Vista Home Premium.

With this business machine I also got WXP recovery DVD. I have tested it with my notebook and with original Toshiba recovery image sound works well. I have noticed that recovery image has WXP with SP3.

So the question is why your own installation ends with this sound issue.
Have you possibility to install WXP SP3 on your Satellite notebook?

I'm not sure if I'm going mad but recently I did a system restore of my laptop (applying all Windows Updates) and the sound (through headphones) doesn't sound as good. Notably the bass and to some extent the treble is poor and I have a sort of 'mid range' non-descript sound quality.

I checked I had the DTS enhancement switched on and checked I had the latest Toshiba approved driver for the Realtek HD Sound. The only other thing I was thinking of was installing the driver from the Realtek site but that suggests that's just a generic one and so I wonder if that would be sort of a downgrade?

Anyhow, would appreciate any thoughts.

Answer:Satellite C50-A-1JM - sound quality not good

I have Satellite S50-B and internal speakers are not so good and I?m not satisfied with the sound but this model has stereo speakers only. But using headphones sound s really not so bad especially after activating surround and bas boost option in DTS settings.

Check also advanced options where you can change the levels for bass, voice and treble. On the right side is also equalizer so you can change all settings and hopefully configure best sound output for your headphones.

Hey,

I read one other topic about this, but there was no real answer aside from making a comment about equalizer settings, so I decided to make a new topic.

Formated this machine, installed fresh XP SP2, let it update to SP3, not a problem. Related post, even found that the latest BIOS 2.50 now also solved the Wifi connection issue under XP, which was horrific.

Anyways, now that that is out of the way, the Conexant sound is poor, sounds like playing in 8 bits mono with any sound, MP3 wave etc. I do not believe the equalizer suggestion makes sense, it is not so much an imbalance in the sounds frequency, but far more fundamental, really like either the MP3 is played at a bitrate of 96, or the sound was recorded at 8 bit (I know this is not the case, but to give an idea of what we are hearing here). So playing with the equalizer does not make a difference at all.

Could anyone tell me what may be the reason, or better a solution here ? I dont think there is a practical reason why the quality is limited by an XP driver, whereas in Vista the sound of this laptop is really fantastic I must admit. (of course tried latest drivers in both OS's).

BTW, I realize that in XP, the device manager shows 3 "question mark" devices, but these should not be related to the issue I think (firewire, some SM bus ..).

Any help would really be appreciated, the XP installation is soooo much smoother to work with than the sluggish Vista that the P300 came installed with :(

I got a Toshiba Satellite C55t-A5218 as a gift about 3 weeks ago and overall its a good laptop,
however I am very disappointed with one aspect.

The sound output is shocking on all software, whether using the built in speakers or external speakers or headphones.

All that is produced from any of them is a tinny, quiet sound quality with absolutely no bass. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the sound card or something else but feel as though a laptop as high-end and expensive as this should come ready to play music high-quality.

I also got this laptop from abroad so can't really take it back the the shop. Is there any help somebody can offer on here?

Is this something that can be sorted on the laptop or will i have to fork out more money on a new sound card?

Answer:Sound quality on Satellite C55t-A5218

Sound quality is often not so good due to internal speakers. Some laptops have normal stereo speakers and sound is not so good. Otherway some of them have high quality Harman/Kardon and sound is great.

Anyway, have you tried to test it with different players and play a bit with Equalizer?

Does problem persist with different players, different medias (DVDs or music CDs)?
If yes in my opinion there must be some hardware problem. I am not technician and can not give you a precise answer but try to sort out if it can be caused by software or hardware malfunction.

Answer:Bad sound quality after XP or Vista upgrade on Satellite A300-15d

Hi

What do you mean exactly by "bad sound quality"?
Is it too low or what?

The A300-15D seems to belong to the PSAJ4E series.
The Conexant audio driver for Win XP and vista is available on the Toshiba European driver page.

I've got the same sound chip in my notebook and the sound is ok... I have also noticed that I've got a SmartAudio in the control panel.
This seems to be a additional tool to improve the sound quality.

I have problems with microphone/recording quality on my A60 particularly but not limited to situations when using a USB phone. Talking on the USB phone produces a lot of static when used with the A60, which is not the case when I use a other notebook.
Both laptops have the same VOIP and 'simplyphone' software.

Any ideas what might be the problem? Drivers?

Toshiba support suggests seeing if a system restore will improve things but I'm reluctant to go through that for a dubious result.

Answer:Satellite A60: Poor microphone sound quality when using USB phone

Hi

I don?t think that the driver update will help you. The OS uses simple common USB Microsoft drivers. I think we should search the ?problem? somewhere else.

You could try to disable the power save option in the device manager -> USB hub -> properties. I have noticed that if the power saving was enabled on the USB ports some external devices could not work with full performance.
Additionally you should disconnect the other USB devices during testing the USB microphone.
I think it?s not impossible that some external USB devices could have a bad influence on the USB microphone usage.

PS: I found a intersting site about USB microphone testing

The sound quality on this laptop has been very bad for quite some time.

I have tried downloading all of the newest updates and drivers from the Toshiba wesite to no avail, including the most recent conexant driver, which appears to be from 2007. . . . I use XP/SP3. For a system that is supposed to have good sound quality, with the harmon kardon speakers, it is frustrating as it is unlistenable. The sounds cracks, pops, is intermittent, has static, and just is generally quite poor.

There is not a problem with the volume, just the awful sound quality Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite P105-S6024 and awful sound quality

Hi

I see you are using the Windows XP which was not preinstalled by Toshiba.
I think this notebook came with the Windows Vista OS.

Did you notice the same sound quality using the Windows Vista OS?
I think you should check this.

If the sound woudl be better using the Vista then it could be a sound driver issue.
I found another Conexant sound driver for Win XP. I use this one:
http://webpages.charter.net/mmooglemirror/Compaq%20C751nr%20Audio%20XP32.zip

Check this too!

Satellite C870.

1) Issues with Bluetooth - machine couldn't find other devices and there were problems with communications;

2) I'm very, very disappointed with the quality of sound. The speakers are very poor. If I knew I wouldnt'n buy it! Unfortunately, I had no chance to check it and assumed Toshiba will keep the minimum standards in this matter.
In the past (some years ago)

I've used Toshiba laptop and it was OK.
To be honest I've puchased this computed due to my good expirience from the past, but will be more carreful in the future.

Now, I have to life with it as spent 800US.
The rest is OK - for the time being.

Answer:Satellite C870 - sound quality & Bluetooth connection issue

> 1) Issues with Bluetooth - machine couldn't find other devices and there were problems with communications;

What Satellite C870-xxx do you have exactly?
From my own experience some models support BT and some don?t? so probably your unit does not supports BT or you did something wrong while BT configuration.

> 2) I'm very, very disappointed with the quality of sound. The speakers are very poor. If I knew I wouldnt'n buy it! Unfortunately, I had no chance to check it and assumed Toshiba will keep the minimum standards in this matter. In the past (some years ago)

From my own knowledge different models supports different hardware specifications. You can purchase notebook models with Harman-Kardon speakers which provide better sound quality. This unit seems to support standard speakers.
So it?s always a matter of price-value ratio and in my opinion this is not too bad.

Hi,

After I downgraded my Vista HP to Windows XP I came across a very strange thing. There were no problems with drivers as they could be easily found on the TOSHIBA web-site. After installing all the drivers I mentioned that the overall sound quality got worse.

When I started investigating the issue I came across an anomaly. When you open a file in Winamp and, without closing it, open a movie in Windows Media or any other video player, the sound improves a lot.

The same happens with the modem. When you start connecting, or to be more specific, when the modem's speaker turns on... Voila, the sound improves again. I tried lots of things... like downloading drivers from different sites and of different versions and re-installing them.

But nothing helped. There were no problems with Vista so, I guess, it's a software problem. I googled a bit and found a few more people that have the same thing.

I hope somebody can help me because what's the use of Harman\Kardon speakers if they don't produce proper sound?..

Did you install the XP HD-Audio hotfixes?

I changed my operating system to windows 8 64bit , all hardware defined by windows except chipset & blutooth (I defined them once from Windows 7 another time from latest model like L830). but the function key not working (for wirekess/blutooth on/off ).

Is there any drivers for L500-21T for windows 8 64bit or from specific new compatible models drivers?

On http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/checkWindows8Compatible.do?service=EU you can check if your notebook is supported for Win8 OS.

One more thing: your notebook has Intel HM55 Express Chipset. Interesting is that Tecra A11 with part number PTSE0E has the same chipset and it is supported for Win8 so you can try to use chipset driver offered for this Tecra notebook.

Hello,
i can't install Windows 8.1 (Windows 8 is running successfull). Is this "by design" (maybe missing support for things like PAE, NX or SSE2. see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...is-pae-nx-sse2).

Thanks for help

Answer:Satellite L500-1C7 and Windows 8.1

If Win 8 runs on your notebook properly, then it should be possible to upgrade the Win 8 to Windows 8.1 too…

In order to get Win 8.1, install all Win 8 updates and then access the Windows Store to get the Win 8.1 update.

It should be possible to install the Win 8.1 update in case Win 8 is already up to date.

Hi,

I bought a Satellite L500 with Vista as the os. I upgraded to win 7 using the Toshiba upgrade disc I was sent. Since installing Windows 7 my laptop freezes at any time.
Ctrl-alt-del do nothing.

My only option is to turn it off with the power button. I have installed all the available drivers from the Toshiba site but to no avail. Also, since installing Win 7 the FN key does not work, the touch pad won't work and the eco utility won't work. I have checked all the drivers that I can find and reinstalled or tried to update them. I have looked at the settings for the mouse and pointing device and it all says its working.

I think it is because I can't turn it on with the FN key- FN+F9. I can mute the volume now with FN+ESC (couldn?t a few days ago) I can use the FN key to sleep and lock the laptop but the dim/ brightness keys don't work. It seems they work up to F5 only.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Answer:Satellite L500 - several issues with Windows 7

Hi joey,

Can you find any information in Windows event viewer about this freeze?

You should check the device manager for unknown devices or yellow exclamation marks. Maybe it?s a driver issue.

Regarding the FN keys you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. They are required for FN keys and then you are able to enable/disable the touchpad (FN+F9).

Last but not least check the Toshiba page for a Windows 7 version of Eco Utility.

Hey!

Apologies if this isn't the right forum. Not sure if this is purely for those laptops upgraded through the official Update programme.

But anyway, I have a Satellite L500-1ZR which isn't covered by the official programme so I went and updated my laptop directly through Microsoft. Everything works perfectly so far. However, Windows has installed its own drivers for my Radeon Mobility HD 4500 series and I would prefer to use the ATI drivers. As is normal, I can't install the drivers directly from the ATI website but when I try to install drivers through the Catalyst Install Manager that is on the Toshiba website, as I've always done in the past, it claims that it can't find any installable content.

Is there any way around this or is it a matter of waiting (and hoping) that Toshiba release Windows 8 drivers?

Answer:Satellite L500 - Windows 8 GPU Drivers

Here is a nice thread about Win 8 supported notebook series:

Check if your series is listed.
If its listed, it will get Win 8 drivers

Windows 7 officially launched today and I was wondering if the drivers will be available for my L500 laptop any time soon.
The reason I ask is because I bought the Windows 7 Ultimate and want to implement it on my laptop.

I've been using Vista drivers but ofcourse some bugs occur every now and then. Especially the Toshiva Value Added Package / Flash Card Button support giving me a hard time.
There aren't any drivers for the ATI Mobility Radeon 4570 since it's a new chipset so I editted my own driver by rewriting the INI file inside the driver folder. Setting it to my hardware ID.

But anyway, when I bought the laptop it had some kind of folder with it stating that I can upgrade my laptop to Windows 7. Allthough no drivers are available yet.

I'm probably asking the obvious but is there a date set for the drivers to be available ?

I'm sorry if this post has been answered elsewhere. I didn't manage to find an answer.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L500-128 and Windows 7 drivers

Your laptop model will definitely be supported for Win7 and I am pretty sure drivers, tools and utilities will be available soon.
I don't believe anyone here can say for sure when exactly but I think next days they should be available for download.

Hi,

I just bought this laptop, and if I knew that it does not support XP, that it has only drivers for Vista I doubt, better yet I know that I would not take Toshiba.

There's no warning thas says "Vista only" or something similar, at least not in my contry and it was unpacked.

The problem is that I have only XP and I do not like VIsta at all, so is there any drivers for XP?

I couldn't find any drivers for XP, there is no drivers even for Win7, only for Vista.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L500-12P - Where can I get Windows XP drivers?

Hi!

In my opinion Windows XP is pretty old OS and is the past. Vista is the future and in few days it will be Windows 7.

So you should be happy if your notebook runs properly with preinstalled Vista. The notebook is fast enough for this OS and with new SP2 it runs faster as without SP. Furthermore you can switch to classic mode and then it looks like XP.
Have you check this?

If you really want XP you have to collect drivers yourself on external websites, like Intel, Realtek and so far.

Bye

hi,

Before installing Windows xp, check if Win Xp drivers are available for your model:

http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

If there are no drivers, it's useless to install Xp. You have to look for them in the web and most of them are not existing.

By the way, if you use a laptop with supplied Windows, there is no expiration.

It seems that SATELLITE L500-02F PSLS0C-02F012 belongs to Toshiba Canadian series.
Indeed, there are only Win 7 drivers.

But you can check the Toshiba European driver page.
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

There you will find different L500 models and there are some Win XP drivers which could work in connection with you L500 series.

Some single missing drivers you could collect at you own hand?

Hello everyone!

I just purchased a Sat Pro L500-196 which comes with Windows7 installed.

However for the use of older software which I need for my work, I want to install the Windows XP from my old laptop.
I want to setup a dual-boot environment so I can use Win7 for most of the time but be able to boot into XP whenever I need to.

The support page for this model lists 96 drivers for WinXP for this modell.
Which of these drivers do I really need?
And are there any instructions in which order install them? Or can I download/order a cd (or cd-image) with all drivers for WinXP

As far as i know, after installing WinXP on a second partition, I need a Windows7 installation-DVD to repair the boot manager.
Otherwise only WinXP sill start.
My laptop came without such a DVD, there is just a recovery partition.
Is it possible to use the recovery-system to make Win7 start again or do I really need a Win7 DVD?

Thanks in advance,
Juergen from Germany

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro L500-196: Which drivers for Windows XP

>The support page for this model lists 96 drivers for WinXP for this modell.
>Which of these drivers do I really need?
There is no special installation order needed?
But I would start with common drivers like:
Display driver, LAN driver, Wlan driver, Modem driver, Card Reader Controller, touchpad driver, etc?.

The Controls driver should be installed before Controls (utility)?.
Try it simply?.

>As far as i know, after installing WinXP on a second partition, I need a Windows7 installation-DVD to repair the boot manager.
This is right?. I had the same issue with Vista and had to boot Vista DVD in order to repair the Vista boot manager

>Is it possible to use the recovery-system to make Win7 start again or do I really need a Win7 DVD?
No because it?s not the same.
The recovery image will format the HDD and partitions and will erase the installed Win XP.
