Preferred Solution: Replace hard drive.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Replace hard drive.

Have nothing in my files and it's asking me you need more online storage space. Is it because of my games we online.

My primary HDD was failing so I backed it up and replaced it with a larger 1TB drive.  After reinstalling everything the new drive is displaying the same size as my old drive and the extra space available is unallocated.  I can allocate it as
a separate drive but I find that annoying and would prefer to just have my primary C: drive show up with all of the available space.  I formatted the extra space and made it available separately as drive G hoping that I could EXPAND drive C but that option
is not highlighted as selectable on drive C for some reason.  Should I just live with this extra space or is there a way to easily combine C and the new G space?

The R51 2887-W1F has a dead HDD.I start the laptop and WinXP Pro sits at the opening screen for 45 minutes.Nothing new installed, infact the Access button just freezes the laptop after a while too. I pulled the HDD out and ran a number of hardware tests, even MemTest86 for 4 hours and the laptop is in good shape.I put the HDD on an 2.5"-to-3.5" IDE adapter and tried to get 3 different PCs to see the HDD but I can't see the HDD and so I can't copy anything over to the PC.Any thoughts on how to do so? Since it appears to be a dead/dying 20GB HDD, I was going to replace it with a 80 GB HDD.I understand that's the biggest this R51 can use/see. I know the R51 had a special partition with some files, and IBM has a TON of special drivers too. So what problems can I expect with an outright replacement of HDD?Do I actually need the special partition & if so how do i install it? Moderator Note; please update your profile with your correct country location as per the forum rules. Answer:R51 2887 Hard drive is dead, how to replace the drive and setup.

You should be able to upgrade to any PATA size drive of 9.5 mm thickness that you wish, there is no limit in size. So you can get a 250 gig if you want, any harddrive brand. If you don't have the original recovery cd, then you will have to use off the shelf version of the XP pro cd and activate it using your own s/n on the bottom of the laptop. You can download most of the drivers off the Lenovo.com support site.

Hi,

I disabled the optical drive from Windows System folder because it was faulty and slowing down my computer.

However, now, a virus has stopped from starting Windows.

Since this configuration of Windows on the Hard Drive, can I replace the Hard Drive with a new one so it can:

A. Reset my configuration to allow a Windows Installation disk to boot up from the "newly installed" optical drive,

B. Erase any prior infected files I may have had on the previous Hard Drive.

Thank you,

P.S.

The computer is a Dell Inspirion 2200 Notebook.

Brand names are irrelevant especially when you are installing your own OS.

That would be the idea if you have it set to boot from disk in the system BIOS. The CD/DVD must have first priority over the HDD to boot.

I want to get the 2tb western digital  internal hard drive for my t40p.  I've been reading that if its not a Lenovo hard drive I might have warning messages at boot, is this correct?  I've compared the size and it looks like it will fit.  Also, my old hard drive failed so what else do I need to get my laptop working, a recovery disk or will rescue and restore work?  Will one of these recover Windows?Message Edited by zorro7444 on 02-17-2009 08:31 AMMessage Edited by zorro7444 on 02-17-2009 01:11 PM

Answer:Need to replace hard drive

Welcome to the forum! Your T40p requires a PATA/IDE hard drive, and the largest one available is WD 250GB/5400rpm. No errors will be triggered, this is a problem only  with T43/p, R52 and X41/T units. You will need a set of recovery disks to get your ThinkPad to factory state once the new drive is installed. Hope this helps.

HI,The Samsung 850 evo, pro have  been voted the best hard drives prize/performance by international PC magazines. If you have the Windows 10 disk you can use it to install the OS on the SSD, you will not even need the product key if windows 10 has already been installed previously on the PC as it will (the same edition) be automatically activated once installed and connected to internet (just click on do not have product key when prompted). You can also insert your product key.You can also download the media creation tool from Microsoft and by running this tool download  original copy of windows 10 iso or create a bootable USB pendrivefrom Microsoft. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Personally I like to perform a clean install (custom install) without recovery drive and get all the most recent drivers from HP site or if necessary from the manufacturer of the device. Here is where you can get drivers for windows 10 for your PC:http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-touchsmart-17-j100-quad-edition-notebook-pc-... Let me know if you need further help,David

Question: Replace Hard Drive

Answer:Replace Hard Drive

Thinkpads should have built in accelerometer (APS) that controls the head parking of harddrive, while some harddrive have builtin shock detection feature, most of the newer harddrive have head parking feature, therefore most of the new harddrive should be compatible with Lenovo's APS. Not sure about temperature reporting, but i imagine it is fairly common, as most other laptops can also report hdd temp. I can use it on my desktop.  If you are worried just get Hitachi Travelstar, Seagate or Fujitsu harddrive.

Answer:Can I replace my C hard drive?

Its possible for sure and not too hard either.

Once you have the drive you want to install it will either come with software or you can download free software from the manufacturer of the drive to clone the old hard drive to the new drive. Once cloned just disconnect the old drive and connect the new drive in its place and everything should be as it was but with more space.

You can then add the old drive back in a secondary drive for additional storage.

As a example if you buy a Seagate drive you can use DiscWizard from Seagate to migrate your system over to the new drive: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.j...toid=d9fd4a3cdde5c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD

You can also use third party paid programs with a greater range of options such as Acronis TrueImage or Symantec's Ghost to clone the drive.

Thease easiest way to do this is to create an image of your current HDD then write it to the new HDD when you place it into the main HDD bay. There are a few third party softwares that can do this for you.

My computer is giving me the "imminent failure" message and keeps crashing, so I understand it's time to replace the hard drive. I don't know what to buy and would appreciate some tips. The computer is a Compac Presario 6000 with Windows XP if that helps. I want this to be as painless as possible.

Answer:I have to replace my hard drive. How do I know what to buy?

It's giving you this message because you have S.M.A.R.T enabled in the bios.

This is a self monitoring program for your hard drive, and is supposed to warn you of impending failure so you have enough time to back up your system.

It's not perfect, so I would try a hard disk utility to double check, either from your drives website, or try something like SiSoftWare Sandra and/or Dr. Hardware.

If you find you do need a new drive, basically look for one that is at least ATA100, 7200 rpm, 8 mb cache, and with at least a three year warranty.

Seagate is the only manufacture that I know that offers 5 years on their drives, while others offer usually 3 like Western Digital, Samsung, Maxtor etc, or even only 1 on their cheaper units.

As far as size is concerned, make sure your motherboard supports drives over 137 GB if you are after one that large. Also, Windows XP won't support drives over 137 GB unless you have a CD with SP1 slipstreamed or included.

Installing SP1 after you have installed the operating system doesn't work, it must be part of the installation disc.

Answer:Do I need to replace my hard drive?

Probably. I would back up your data to something else like dvd's or external drive, just to be safe. You do not mention if the computer still boots. If the computer still loads windows seatools has a windows based program to download and test hard drives, works on most all of them, or you can check the make on your hard drive and go to the manufacturer's website and follow the directions to using their disk testing utility. Many times you download and ISO file and make a bootable cd (cause windows no longer loads in many cases), you boot to the cd on start up and run the short generic test and then the long, if it fails you know it's time is about up.http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/suppor...

1. What type of hard drive do I need to replace it (found many on ebay) the original is 30 gb.

2. Is there any problem with replacing it with say a larger hard drive (60 or 120 gb)?

3. Will it come with windows xp already on it or can I simply load it from the disk that came with the computer?

It seems fairly simple to replace......or am I missing something?

I've been supporting this Power Mac G4 since it was new in June of 2002.
Other than installing a SCSI card for the photo printer and the occasional cleaning, it's worked flawlessly.
It's in daily use for editing and annotating Aerial photos.
Yesterday I had to reinstall Illustrator for a weird parsing error I've never seen before, and it got me to thinking that the HD has been used heavily for nearly 6 years.
This machine is the backbone of this small business, and they're willing to do what's necessary, so my question is whether it's a good idea to preemptively replace this HD.
6 years seems like a long run to me, but I've never replaced an HD based on age alone, so what do the experts think?

I have had this computer for about 6 years now and have no reason to believe that the HD is about to become faulty. I am wondering if, just as a safety measure, I should replace it or at least add another against the evil day when this one finally wears out. When I get another I would imnagine that I would transfer all my data and the operating (W2K) system to the new one. Can I just copy all of the directories from one HD to the other to achieve this? Will the computer boot from the new HD after I have done it?I look forward to your advice.

Answer:Should I replace my Hard Drive?

Yes, it might be advisible to have a secondary disk as a backup, or even use the current disk as the backup and transfer your OS onto the new one.xxcopy will do the job; the new disk may also come with software that will transfer everything for you.

My HD died on me (ran into a bad cluster while doing a complete scan and then failed to reload, etc.) and I need to replace it with a suitable substitute that is the same capacity. The old one was a Maxtor D540X 60GB ATA/100, I think the most appropriate replacement would be a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus-9 ATA/133 60GB, but I wonder if anyone could confirm this. The OS is Windows Me.

Question: replace hard drive

i am going to remove an excelstor technology es3230 30gb hard drive because it is grinding and crunching and running very slow.i am going to replace it with a maxtor 40gb hard drive.is it a simple matter of swapping them over and rebooting, then put my xp disc in,or is there more to it?

Answer:replace hard drive

No - that will work fine but - Yes there is more you CAN do if you have a Partition Manager. Install your new drive a master and the old a slave then boot up using a bootable floppy into Partition Manager and copy the entire directory to the new drive. Make the new drive 'Active' and you can then remove the old drive and you will be running exactly as before.

Ok, here's my problem: Last December I bought a computer from a well-known national store that will remain unnamed. I started getting Windows error messages almost immediately, and by September, the computer would go into Chkdsk when I booted it up, and I was getting messages on start-up saying that the 'S.M.A.R.T disk HD was in danger of imminent failure' and to replace it. So...I took the computer back to the store I purchased it from. The tech there did two tests on the hard drive: Tuff Test and Disk Doctor. She also told me that S.M.A.R.T HD is known to be innacurate with reporting failure and turned off the self test in the BIOS settings. Basically, in her opinion, there was nothing wrong with the HD. Now, a month later, my computer won't even load my local profile. It says it's corrupt. When I run Chkdsk myself and go into the Event Log, there's a ton of error messages saying that the HD has a bad block. So, I have several questions. Number 1: Would the tests the tech did actually find anything wrong with the HD? Number 2: It seems pretty obvious to me that the HD is failing, considering all the messages I'm getting. But - I'm not a computer expert. Could anyone out there advise me as to whether I need to replace the HD or not? Any help or advice would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Hi, I need help !!! I have been using T61 (Windows Vista Ultimate 2GB Ram without Ultra Bay) for the last 1 year. My original hard drive had 80 GB and I decided to upgrade with a Hitachi Travelstar 250GB hard drive. This was a bare drive. I bought the Norton Ghost 14. I loaded the hard drive in a 2.5" enclosure. Norton Ghost says the new drive should be setup as slave before proceeding to copy/image the old hard drive to the new hard drive. I am not sure how to set this up. Can somebody pls let me know how to do this. Is there any other way to upgrade with the stuff I already have. Any help is appreciated. Regards Previsun

I am not sure how to set this up. Your T61 uses a SATA drive interface.  "Slave" setting are applicable to PATA drives but quite meaningless for SATA drives.  If possible, just ignore the message and see if Ghost will proceed with the cloning process. Cheers, Bill

I have 2 hard drives in my system currently - a 40GB drive holding OS / Program files and MP3's, and a 60 GB drive holding games / films / pictures etc.

The 40GB OS drive has developed some kind of error, which results in me being unable to boot the machine at most attempts, and when I do manage to get in, the machine hangs after a few minutes. When the drive is causing a problem (on failed bootup or when the system hanges) I can hear an audible click / knocking sound from the drive.

I obviously need to replace the drive, but how do I make a copy of the drive, so I can create a new OS drive, when I can only get into the system (if I'm lucky) for a minute at a time?

I've found a thread that recomends Clone Maxx, but I can't get in long enough to download it!

I have my restore CD and OS CD, so could I take out the existing drives, add a new drive and run a fresh install of the OS (W2K), then add the other drives back in, and take what I want from the faulty disk?

My external hard drive went bad. I would like to replace it in its caddy, which I like. But I notice when I took the HD out of the caddy, that there are no actual connections. There is a metal area on the side of the hard drive which I presume is a contact. I don't recall seeing this "contact" on other hard drives.
Do all hard drives have such a contact? How do I know if the HD I buy will operate when I install it in the caddy?
Many thanks for advice or links.

Hello,

I'm having what I believe to be an issue with my hard drive. A few days ago, I started playing some games on my computer again. Everything was running smoothly until my computer locked up and I was forced to do a hard restart. As the computer freezes, the sound last played keeps repeating over and over, whether is be music or someone talking over Ventrilo. At one point while restarting, I recieved the message "No Hard Disk detected". After shutting down and coming back a minute later, it was fine.

The OS that I was using at the time was Windows XP. Updating my sound and video card drivers did not solve my problem. SMART tests show that the drive appears to be fine. I figured it could be that Windows XP was corrupted. I did a repair installation, which again had no effect. I decided to completely format the drive and try Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I performed a clean install, updated my drivers and tried gaming once again. The issue still persists; however, less frequently.

Note: I disabled Superfetch because it was causing a lot of hard disk activity.

I am also having trouble running the Vista Experience Index. The initial test when installing worked; however, now it always fails to complete. A section of the log which failed is below.

Hello, frequent admirer of the site, first time poster.

In short, should I replace my Vaio laptop (PCG-Z1WAMP, WinXP SP2) hard drive (Toshiba MK6021GAS, 60GB) or try harder to save it, perhaps finding some other cause of my problems?

After 18 months of great performance, I started getting long system hangs as my laptop tried to access the hard drive-- the drive would just rhythmically go crunch, crunch, crunch for minutes at a time, allowing nothing to be done, then my system would start responding again, until I tried to do something else, whereupon it had a good chance of again hanging with crunch, crunch, crunch.

--I did a virus scan with updated definitions. Nothing found.

--I wiped all partitions and reinstalled Windows. The laptop then worked fine.

--I installed several key programs. Still fine.

--After reading these forums, out of curiosity and suspicion, I ran chkdsk /p from the recovery console. It found errors. I used chkdsk /r to fix them. (I know chkdsk is not the best program but it was all I had at the time.)

--I loaded on a bunch of documents and programs.

--All was well for several days.

--I loaded on a few more GBs of documents.

--It started again with the crunch, crunch, crunch hang and rapidly got worse. I considered cybercide but calmed myself.

--I did chkdsk /r from the recovery console again. It said "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems".

--Honoring my Irish stubbornness I ran ... Read more

I had thought of checking out another person's computer with Hard Disk Sentinel to make sure the drive was healthy and all, to find out it was at like 20% health and has over 80 bad sectors. I plan on buying another one on eBay. what is the best, easiest way to switch hard drives? The OS and everything is on this main drive. I can reinstall the OS, but then there is drivers and syncing all the files back in and regaining all the programs. There is about 220GBs in total used on the drive (its a 500gb). I have a 500gb external hard drive I can use to back all the pictures and documents on, but can I somehow make it easier than this and just copy everything (programs, documents, pics, OS) onto the external and copy it over to the new hard drive and then plug it up to the desktop? I also have a SATA/IDE to USB adapter I could use with my laptop which would most likely me needed in the 2nd method.

Answer:Hard Drive has many bad sectors, how to replace?

I'd look at the HD bay and cabling inside to see how it's set up but you should be able to use most any 3.5" SATA HD. Keep in mind that the best upgrade you can give a PC these days is an SSD.

Files should already be backed up against failure. If you have no data loss yet then you can save a Win7 backup image to external to apply it to new drive to see how you like it. I recommend using Macrium - Image your system, making the boot disk to use on both ends.

Otherwise follow these same steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything is covered there, compiling what works best in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here.

Answer:Aspire ZC-606 How can I replace hard drive

before changing the HDD i would try another SATA cable, the part number is: 50.U86D5.002 to open the back of your ZC, you need to open the 2 rubber feet at the bottom of the back cover and unscrew the 2 screws; then with a pin you need to push in the little hole of the DVD drive until it slide off; then you can lift the back cover.

I have an ASUS eee PC model 1005HAB with a crashed hard drive.

This model netbook does not have a "trap door" on the back or a slide out drive bay. It appears I have to take the entire back off of the unit to access and replace the drive.

I've tried removing the 4 corner screws; the back case won't budge.

I'm trying to locate a service/repair manual. ASUS' web site doesn't have it available as a download and I would rather not pay an unknown source found in a Google search in advance for a manual that may or may not be the official one (I've been burned on this before).

Any ideas on where to find a legitimate download of ASUS eee PC repair manuals? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi.

In addition to my other posting here, I want to ask you professionals, if it is possible to mirror my existing hard drive onto a much larger hard drive?

My partition C became way too small over the years, the Windows XP files have blown up their size. Partition D (which contains all installed programs) is still fine. But I was never able to use software like "Partition Magic" to adjust the space between these two partitions.

So I might just have to buy a new hard drive. But I want - I even HAVE - to keep the installed XP the way it is now. Lots of software installed. So I wonder, if there is any way just to "mirror" the existing version of XP onto a new hard drive, and then just to exchange the old hard drive with the new one?

Pathetic, I know, but I replaced the dying 600(odd)MB hard drive on my kids' 486 (AST Advantage! Adventure 4100) with a used 2.1 G drive. No jumpers-I took it off since it is a single drive. (jumper set to Master gave me "failed disk" message--haven't tried the CS setting) When I boot the system, I get a "non-system disk" error, so I boot from a Win98 startup floppy. I start Windows setup, which then runs Scandisk. When Scandisk starts, it tells me it can't read from the last cluster on the drive, and that my LBA setting may be wrong. I've enabled LBA mode, and entered the info in the BIOS setup re: cylinders, heads & spt. There were other settings that I wasn't sure of values for, so I left them alone. ("prewrite comp" and "multiple sector transfer") THE PROBLEM: I run Scandisk anyway, even with the LBA message, and when it gets to the surface scan, about a quarter of the way through, it's reporting every single sector it tries to read as bad. (I stopped after about 1000 out of 519,000) Can the drive be that screwed, or is this because of a wrong configuration in setup? Can someone tell me what to look for? The BIOS is Phoenix Version 4.04 Plug & Play, and the setup utility separates system setup and Fixed Disk setup.

I bought an IBM R40 used on ebay.  It came without recovery disks or OS disks.  It has been bullet proof for 3 years and I travel for a living.  Nothing fancy, just works. One day booting up, I get a "Fixed Disk Failure".  So I found a replacement 40GB HDD on ebay at a great price and it is a Hitachi, just like the one I pulled out.  I installed it and then ordered a set of recovery CDs from Lenovo.  They run $45US. It comes as a set of 4 CDs and it supposed to include all preloaded software, drivers and a copy of Windows XP.  I booted to the CD and followed the instructions through all 4 CDs.  At the end of the 4th CD it says:  "Recovery Continuing, Remove any diskettes or CDs from the drives, and press Enter to restert your computer."  When I do that, all I get is a blank screen with a flashing curser in the upper left corner. I've loaded the CDs 4 times, same result.  I've ordered another set of CDs thinking they were missing something, same result. During the CD load, I can see the HDD light blinking indicating action on the new drive.  When I look at the BIOS, it recognizes the new HDD because it list it by model number.  I've changed the BIOS security settings for the IBM Predesktop Area to DISABLE as  recommended by someone on another board, same result.  I don't want to throw this Laptop away, but I am at the end of my rope.  My wife thinks I've got way too much ti... Hello,  I want to replace the 500GB/24GB Hybrid Hard drive that came stock with my Lenovo Y50 to something with a bigger storage capacity, as I've already filled the 500 GB C drive.  My computer runs Windows 8.1 that came installed on the computer, and I want to make sure when I replace the hard drive that I can reinstall Windows, becuase we aren't provided with a backup copy of this version of Windows with the computer.  Do I have to use a cloning program to successfully complete the switch? I've made a backup of my system in OneKey Recovery but I don't know if I can use this backup directly from my external hard drive to put onto my new hard drive?  I'm not the most technologically literate, as you can probably tell, but I have some working knowledge. I just don't want to screw this up! Please help with plain language instructions!  Thanks!Sarah

Answer:Replace Lenovo Y50 Hard Drive

I am also wondering thism but some of the hard drives I have been looking at on Amazon come with clonijng software for you to do this. It's what I will probably use

I am getting a S.M.A.R.T. message when I boot my computer telling me that I should backup all my data and replace my hard drive.

I've got the new drive and would like to know the best way to transfer all the data from the old drive to the new drive. (I don't want to have to re install all the software over again)

Is there a way to make an image of the original drive and place it on the new one without having to reinstall all the programs again?

The OS is XP Pro with SP2
CPU: AMD Athlon64
RAM: 2GB

The old drive is 80GB IDE
The new drive is 500GB SATA

Thanks

Hello:
My computer has officially died. The good news is the hard drive is still good. Can I take my hard drive and put it into a different computer that is not new? Will there be problems since the new PC is totally different from the old one as far as programs, drives, etc goes. They both have Windows XP but that is the only in common things with the 2 hard drives. At any rate, I really would like to at least retrieve some files off the old hard drive.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Answer:Solved: replace hard drive into a different PC

I guess what I really want to know is it as simple as it sounds to take a hard drive and replace it in a different PC by switching it out with the newer PC's hard drive?
thanks agian

To Anyone WhoMight Help:Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated whether they're a cure or just a heads up that there's nothing that can be done - or, how to determine where along that timeline I may be.I dropped a 3.5 - 4" diameter ground magnifying glass from its insecure desklamp holder onto (as one's looking at the open notebook) the lower right surface of the notebook ( a fall of 6-8") . The glass weighs aprx 1-1.5 ibs. The computer screen fluctuated for a sec or 2 and then went to a black screen with the error message reading "disk read error - press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart. The command does nothing. The unit turns off after depressing the on/off button and when power is restored, it returns one to the error message after a blinking cursor for a few secs. I think the C Drive or main hard drive of the unit was damaged to the extent that the thing can't read itself. I'm told there is no laser reading device - that the drive is hardwired to read itself and from there send the data to where I'm unsure.I'm asking if it's possible to replace the main hard drive with another component. Also, if that can be4 done, what the concomitant probs may be that one may encounetr. Thanks to anyone who suggests any idea at all. I scewed up inadvertent ly and would welcome the chance to buy and install a fix at my risk entirely.Davbid Lyle - noholy1

My AM3470 Hard drive (6GB DDR3, 1TB) is dead, and I have no back-up disks.  Can I buy a new SSD drive and re-load Windwos 10 OS from scratch?

Answer:Can I replace my AM3470 hard drive with an SSD?

why not? check if SATA is set to AHCI on BIOS. just keep in mind that SSD speed will be capped by SATA II speed but for sure way better than your old HDD.

Will I be able to replace the hard drive in my Emachine T3418 with a 2 or 3 TB one or is it a fixed drive (non-replaceable)....? I have an external hard drive plugged into one of my USB ports but the C drive is getting low on disk space again & I don't want to delete any more tubes or graphics that I've collected over the years to use in Paint Shop Pro or Animation Shop....I've already deleted tons of them & have some saved on my flash drive, but it's only a 2 GB one that I got free with PSP X3 Ultimate..... Thanks,Afoxybear3

Answer:I was wondering if I can replace the hard drive in...

Your Laptop has a ultra ata 133 or PATA HDD. They are not that plentiful anymore and the largest you can get in 2.5 (laptop) is 259GB and they run at 5400RPM.The specs for your laptop say your drive runs at 7200 RPM so, you would sacrifice some speed and your laptop is probably not that fast as it is.I would suggest This instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220654&cm_re=usb_drive-_-20-220-654-_-Produ...This is a great little 32GB usb drive at a killer price.

Hi. I'm thinking of buying an Acer E3-112 but only if I can replace the 500gb SATA drive with an SSD at some point. Because it's quite recent I can't find out if the hard drive is accessible and swoppable. Does anyone know, or can someone point me to a link that tells me?
Thanks

Typing your question into Google, I found loads of advise on this including:
click here I would have thought that you could also get more specific advice (and avoid affecting warranty) if you first discussed your requirements with Acer - see click here

i haven't tried to see if they are still working...but even if they did work should i go replace them? im afraid of long term affects? i tried googling this but no straight answer...
i know dropping a HD can corrupt data but since they're brand new..they have nothing on it..
any suggestions? i bought it from ncix i could just tell them they weren't working right and they'll replace it...?

Answer:Dropped hard drive should I replace it?

They should be fine, the heads aren't above the platters like they are if you drop/bump it while its running. If they were in the box when they fell then I'm sure you will be fine, they are packaged to take a beating during shipping.

Even if they aren't you could either return them to the store, or RMA them.
