Question: Acer Laptop keyboard and Mouse not working

Hi

I have a just bought a new Acer Aspire 4810T laptop. It froze a while ago and after turning it off and on again the keyboard and the mouse pad are not working. When starting up the keyboard works when entering the set or using F2 key however after it starts up the keyboard and the mouse pad don't work.

Can someone help me on this?

Preferred Solution: Acer Laptop keyboard and Mouse not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Acer Laptop keyboard and Mouse not working

hello
reboot your computer and after your bios has done its check, before windows begins to load, press F8 to access the advanced boot options. You can try to boot last known good configuration from there.
See it that helps first

Keyboard & Mouse: Acer Desktop

Ever since I would say, the past upgrade for Windows 10, my mom's Acer desktop's keyboard has been really laggy. For example, when I go to wake it from sleep to unlock it, the keyboard's Number lock and Caps lock keys do not want to light up. It seems as if the keyboard doesn't want to respond in a timely manner along with the computer. The same goes for the wireless Logitech mouse.

Keyboard: Toshiba Laptop

The same as I mentioned above goes for the Toshiba Laptop that was originally mine, that I have given to my sister.

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone - newby here. I have this acer (aspire 5100 series) about 3 yrs old with windows xp. It starts more or less normal but the entire board and mouse are not working. I have tried pressing F2 during start but it will not allow the keyboard to work. I have also tried Fn + F6 and every other key but it simply starts with a browser open and the pointer in the middle of the screen but nothing but the start button works. I have pulled the battery numerous times, it is not fried. I think there is a simple fix to this as I had a guy repair this problem a couple of months ago and he didnt reformat it. I think it may have something to do with a video driver or lack of..Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Hello, I have an Acer laptop running on Windows 7 and the other day I spilled something on it while cooking. After cleaning it off (just with a cloth) most of the keys wouldn't work. The ones that did didn't wok correctly, i.e 'u' would be 'bu' and so on. The next day, none of the keys worked. I cleaned it with hand sanitizer, and some worked, but again there were messed up 'double keys.' It now seems that they are almost all dissasociated from their original keys. Like, F9 is now spacebar, 7 is enter, etc. I've already restored the computer to factory settings the way it was when I bought it, but its the same. How do you reset the keys?

Answer:Acer laptop Keyboard not working

Your problem is that the contacts on the underside are not clean and the small currents that make the contacts now are bleeding between contacts and causing unexpected results like the double entrys and changed entrys. The only way to fix this is to remove the battery, disassemble the lower computer parts, remove the keyboard and either clean all of the contacts and other sticky surfaces carefully with alcohol, or replace the keyboard and clean all other sticky surfaces. For MOST, this is a job for a professional. Tell him EXCATLY what happened so he knows what the job entails. This will probably not be an inexpensive repair and if it were an older machine it might not pay, but for a fairly new machine that otherwise works well, it probably pays. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I turned on my acer aspire 7250 laptop today and the period key (the key by the right shift button) what do i do (not even the question mark slash key works) i restarted the laptop twice and i even look on acer.com << that period is working because its the other period which is on the numeric right numbers where the num lock is... i think my computer still under standard warranty..

Answer:acer laptop keyboard key not working

If the key is not working, then that's a hardware issue. If your laptop is still under a warranty, you should consider sending it for repair.

I have toshiba satellite L305D, I have installed Windows 7 build 7600. I have a strage problem, my keyboard works fine in BIOS and any 16 BIT environment like in PE for Windows XP, but stops working in Windows environment. But if i resume my laptop from Standby or Hibernate, keyboard starts working fine. I tried seraching every forum, even with toshiba forum, still no response.

This error is totally OS indipendent, i.e I tried installing windows XP both 32bit and 64 bit, the problem is same, and with vista also problem is same. And one more thing to install Vista and XP I have to use external USB keyboard but thanks to windows 7 that it had included onscreen keyboard during Preinstallation Environment also.

Hope to get suggestive answer in no time.

and sorry for my bad english

Below is my hijack this log. I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop, it is only 2 years old. Worked perfect last night. Today I booted it up and the mouse wouldn't work. I bought an external mouse and it worked, but the keyboard didn't. Got an external keyboard & it works. Did my keyboard & mouse fry at the same time? Or is there some evil behind all this?
Thank you!

Since I had some silly windows update about a year ago, I could not just shut the lid without the computer going to a black screen with no response. I learned to deal with it and not do it without expecting to have to manually hardboot and go through the "windows failed to shut down properly" scenario every time. <---- this is not the issue

After someone shut the lid and had this issue come up, the VISTA log in page came up as usual. BUT i could not use the mouse or tab over to enter into my log in...

After rebooting, it went to the "blue screen of death" that tries to restore the comp to a previous "happy place". I want to BUT i cant click YES!

I cannot attempt to reboot in safe mode. The board and mouse will not respond in dos/boot up either...

WTF??? Once I locate a USB keyboard I will attempt that route, but until then, please tell my WHY my computer(windows) is doing this to me.

Answer:Laptop - Keyboard and Mouse NOT working

That sounds like sleeping, not freezing. Just hit a key or press the power button, and it should power right up.

Did you try just pressing enter on the login screen?

if you cant use your keyboard in BIOS, your devices are dead. If you can't use your mouse/keyboard in Windows, there is a driver problem.

I'm helping a friend with his laptop because since only a few days ago, the keyboard and mouse stopped working. I had him reboot it a few times but no effect.
I brought over a live linux CD and booted off of that, the touchpad mouse and keyboard worked perfectly.

So I'm guessing there is something with Windows that is stopping it from working. Laptop running Vista Home

Been searching the net and forums but haven't found a solid fix for this.

Ok so a whole slew of problems, and I am sure there is a simple solution, if not then theres always a technician I can make a visit to.

I own a HP Pavillion Laptop dv2618ca - bought it at best buy on boxing day. I DO have antivirus running - Kaspersky antivirus so I know this is not a virus issue or some sort of hack that I downloaded. I don't download anything on my school laptop - everything i put on it is bought and legitimate.

Alright So it starts with my deciding to update my computer and get it running up to date. I did windows Update and went through all that and it restarted computer - it was fine. I decided to update my graphics drivers so I headed over to the HP website and got it, but realized - HEY, this driver is an old driver. There is a newer version out but nVidia.com doesnt have the driver for my laptop. Ok, lets head over to laptopvideo2go and see if there is a 3rd party driver. As a note, I have used them before they always worked fine. I looked for compatibility on the driver i decided to install and it said it would work.

Installed it and then.. I get the dreaded BSOD. Well, not to worry ive dealt with it before so I decide to boot safe mode... No dice, the laptops keyboard isnt working. Neither is the mousepad when it tries to do a system repair and asks me to do a system restore.

First, the default location that Windows Mail uses is:
c:\users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail. A system restore would not affect this.

Do you know whether or not your laptop contains a hidden recovery hard drive partition? It most likely would be drive d:. To activate the HP Recovery Manager, press "F11" repeatedly upon boot-up; however, you said that your keyboard does not work. My only suggestion at this time, assuming the recovery hard drive partition exists, would be to force the laptop to crash on boot-up as this would most likely cause the HP Recovey Manage... I'm currently running Windows XP on my laptop and after working for a while the laptop and touch pad will lock up. They stop responding but things on the screen keep going. such as a web page loading or a program running so I know the whole laptop has not locked up. Other things on it such as the cd-rom work and such. I have tried to plug in a keyboard and a mouse but it still doesn't respond. I have even jumped over to Linux and reinstalled Windows a few times hoping it might fix it but I keep getting this problem.

Answer:Laptop keyboard and mouse stop working

It would help to know what kind of laptop it is..

You get the same problem even in Linux?
The separate mouse and keyboard you tried.. Were they USB or PS/2?
The embedded touchpad and keyboard may be hardwired to the PS/2 controller, that may be malfunctioning. USB keyboard and mouse should work.

I have HP G60-530US.I read all the posts that talked about updating the BIOS and then doing a hard reset by taking the power cable out and talking out the battery out and then either hitting the power button for 1 minute or just leave the computer for several minutes. Many people seems to have solved their problems.  Not me.I updated the BIOS and also did the hard reset like 10 times.  What other options are there?I have Windows 7-64bit.  This problem occured after I did the 4/11/13 or 4/12/13 windows updates. The power button, wifi button and the mouse on/off buttons are the only ones that seems to be working.

I have a laptop Advent 7088, and it appears to have lost all input functions. Turning the computer on works fine, but neither mouse or keyboard functions. The laptop loads to Windows XP login screen, but again, neither the mouse or keyboard functions. I have tried plugging in a USB keyboard and mouse and still nothing. There is not PS2 port for normal keyboards or mice. Also which I find strange is, althought the option is there, I can not enter the bios, nor will any function key work to allow me access to other menus. Even with the USB keyboard in, I still cannot gain access to the bios or anything. I have tried resitting the ribbon cables for both the onboard mouse and keyboard. I have attempted to do what various other people have suggested. but seem to come up with nothing. Can anyone help at all?

I was playing a game (Overwatch, if it matters) and my keyboard stopped working, but the mouse, screen, and sound all continued to work perfectly. After about 10 seconds the screen froze, but the sound and mouse continued to work. Another few seconds the
mouse stopped working, but the sound still worked. The power button did not work, and when I closed my laptop the sounds kept playing. When I unplugged the mouse and plugged it back on the mouse no longer lit up. I waited a bit for laptop to fix itself, to
no avail. I had to open the laptop up and unplug a cable connecting the batter to something to turn off the laptop, plugged it back in, and the laptop worked fine. The same issue happened where the keyboard stopped working and the screen froze, except this
time the sound stopped and the power button still worked. Why did this happen, and how can I stop this from happening again?

Hello mpmckee,

First run Antivirus, Malware, and Spyware scans. Remove anything the programs find.

Note: if you need some suggestions on which tools to use, let me know.

Afterwards, test functionally of mouse and keyboard.

If no change, run System Restore, choose a Restore point before the issue started.

Again test behavior of mouse and keyboard.

If the issue has been resolved, go ahead and reinstall windows Updates.

I currently have an X60 and have never had a single issue.  However I was recently infected with a Trojan, and after removing it with a reputable program, the keyboard and trackpoint mouse have stopped working. When I get the windows login screen, the trackpoint works fine, but the second I press any key, both keyboard and mouse become totally frozen. I can still use a USB keyboard and mouse with no issue at, but that is the only way. Any ideas as to how I can get them back up and working? Clearly, they (at least the mouse) are not totally fried b/c it works fine before I touch the keyboard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, JT

I've had my desktop for a few years and never had a problem.  Just recently, it has started showing a Keyboard Error message on a black screen when I boot it up.  The wireless keyboard and mouse do not work, although it appears to boot up correctly.  Since I have a password on my computer, I cannot log in or do anything.  When this happens, I've rebooted 2-3 times, and it the keyboard and mouse will finally start working.  I have moved the toggle to different USB ports and this does not appear to make a difference.  How do I prevent this from happening?

I have an Acer M5630 desktop, running Vista Home Premium, which came with an Acer cordless mouse (Model MG-0570T) and keyboard (Model KG-0570).

Although the Acer documentation refers to the driver providing task bar icons for low battery power, upper case lock, etc. there were no Acer drivers provided. The machine as delivered is using the standard Microsoft drivers which do not provide taskbar icons. I have contacted Acer and they say they do not provide drivers!

I would really like a battery low indication as the batteries don't seem to last all that long!

I am not sure where to go from here. Is Microsoft Intellipoint the answer? There are lots of downloads for Logitech mouse/keyboard drivers - would they do the job - I guess it depends how compatible the Acer keyboard/mouse combo is with Logitech?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The battery tray icon can be had by right clicking the taskbar and selecting properties > then going to the Notification tab > checking the Power box > closing it then rebooting. As far as the rest, I'm not sure.

This new computer is an Acer Notebook.  The key board and mouse pad stopped working.  If we plug in a detached keyboard and mouse  it will function, but then it would be like having a desk top, rather than a Laptop.  Has anyone ever heard of this happening?  We sent it back once, and the company ( under warranty replaced the Mother board)  but it happened again and the same way.Now heres the strange thing,  It happen exactly after he down loaded a Sprint wireless card to access the internet.  When it was repaired, he again put the Sprint wireless card , download the program, and when the program said, complete, not restart your computer to take effect,  once we restarted the computer, again the keyboard and mouse pad again does not work.  Does anyone know if Acer is prone to have problems?  I would of never purchased an unknown computer like Acer, but he won this notebook at his High school Graduation party, so we felt blessed......... or were we cursed?  Any ideas?  he's off to college in two weeks, and I dont want to spend another $ 60.00 dollars to ship it to mfg.

Answer:Keyboard and Mouse pad don't function on a Acer Notebook

I can understand your reluctance to spend money of shipping, but that's what warranties are for.  Does Acer not have a repair depot near you that you can take it to?In my experience Acer is usually more reliable than that, is there a possibility that the wireless card is bad, or that the tech didn't know what he was doing and made a mistake?

Answer:Acer Meriton M2RH requires PS2 Keyboard and Mouse Have USB

Probably not until you get it working. But you can get a PS2 keyboard dirt cheap at a local computer shop to have for this type of situation. Once you have a PS2 keyboard you can go into the BIOS and disable the Halt on Keyboard error and enable USB Legacy/Keyboard and jutst use your USB keyboard. You can also try a PS2 to USB adapter but they don't always work with every keyboard.

I want to remove the monitor, basically gut it, and turn the keyboard and trackpad of my laptop into a keyboard with built-in mouse for my desktop. It's an old laptop that I was thinking about throwing away anyway, so I might as well turn it into something useful.

look at attachment.

I want be able to connect that to my desktop with USB and be able to use it as both keyboard and mouse (have both the keyboard and trackpad work)

My desktop is right next to my bed, so I sometimes swing the monitor around and put the keyboard and mouse on the bed. But it's damn hard to use a mouse when you have bedsheets and blankets and other stuff that's soft as a surface.

Also, I can't have any compatibility problems, it needs to work with all 3 systems in my house that I may want to connect it to. Mac OS, Windows XP/Vista, and Linux (Ubuntu and Fedora)

Answer:I want to turn my laptop keyboard and trackpad into an all-in-one keyboard and mouse

would anyone happen to know, and can give me a step-by-step?

My son has an Acer 5532, windows 7 home premium laptop. He was using it last week and as he typed on the laptop keyboard it started to type jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj, and he was able to back space only to have it happen again. Shortly thereafter, he lost the ability to use the track pad or the keyboard on the laptop. I had him restart the computer and it was stuck on the boot drive and the a long shrill beep, I then closed the laptop and restart only to have same thing happen. After going online I tried every combination I read about and miraculously was able to get the laptop running, the keyboard and trackpad still do not work, I got around this by using the usb port to use wireless keyboard/mouse combination.

Please remember before you post, I am not super savy on the computer, you maybe have to ask me info, but I might need step by step info to provide it.
Thanks for your help!

Answer:Acer 5532 frozen keyboard/mouse beeping bios?

At first glance I would suspect a failing keyboard,a jammed key or multiple jammed keys, many PC's including desktops make a beeping sound if keys are held depressed while booting and halt the boot process.

Have you disabled your keyboard and mouse in bios somehow or disabled the halt on keyboard and mouse? We really need to know the steps you've performed to get it working,it will offer valuable clues as to the problem. Also neither will work again until they have been re-enabled.

There are a couple of things I would try out of the box, download and burn Linux mint to a disk, load it up and check the functionality of the mouse and keyboard, you will have to re-enable them in bios, leave halt on keyboard disabled for this test so the computer will load.

http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

This will rule out any software or driver problems.

If your computer won't load at all with the mouse/keyboard enabled you will have to physically disconnect the keyboard from inside the laptop, download your service manual from ACER and follow the disassembly instructions. Removing keyboard is pretty straight forward usually, just a few screws, usually a couple of hidden tabs near the control keys and then un plug it.

Anyway I'm getting a little ahead of myself.

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Did you accidently disable the touch pad? Check the keyboard for a key that does this.

Also, you may want to reinstall the driver.

Before this round of trouble I discovered a problem with one of my graphics cards when they were in SLI with Blue screens and other nasty little things occuring when running Windows; I removed my secondary graphics card from the system to see if I could get a more stable OS, which I did.

I decided to test to see if the other graphics card running on it's own would lead to a stable system, however I was getting zeros on the VGA BIOS bootup screen and other problems before I even reached Windows Vista.

I did sucessfully boot into Vista and enter my password (using the keyboard) and move the mouse around, however once I had logged into my profile Vista began asking me if I wanted to install the drivers for the keyboard and mouse, I selected to update from the Internet and when Vista did not find any drivers for either device it disabled them.
Eventually I got both the keyboard and mouse functioning again by reinstalling Intellipoint pro and the Logitech setpoint.

While using the second graphics card I noted some distortions such as zeros appearing on the VGA BIOS screen during boot up, so I decided to switch out the graphics cards again, again this caused Vista to forget about my keyboard and mouse, I am however able to get onto Vista a combination of a cheap usb mouse I had laying around and the Vista on screen keyboard.

The fix I used previously (reinstalling of Intellipoint and Setpoint) has not works,I have also attempted to manually install the drivers through dev... Read more

My keyboard and mouse stopped working. At first I thought it was a virus but after scanning with a bootable flash drive, that was not the case. I repaired the OS while saving all my files. Use the Windows XP disk, do not choose the repair option here, choose the install, it will see that you already have a version of XP installed, then choose repair. You should back up your files just in case before you start if at all possible. When it is through, you will have to install all the patches again, SP3 then the rest...

I've recently set up my computer with windows 7, and all of a sudden after performing restart the mouse and keyboard fail to work after reaching the login screen. Basically the lights are on but nobody is home. Both the mouse and keyboard function fine in the BIOS and when selecting if I wish to boot up in safe mode etc. But once a password is required then kaput, I've tried the devices in other USB ports too with no success.

Worth mentioning at this stage I'm not gifted with computers so if a simplified answer could be given in answer to this I would be most grateful. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies to this post.

Answer:Mouse and Keyboard not working.

Sometimes the bios contains on and off USB for mouse and keyboard individually as well as(or) a legacy USB setting required for some devices. I have also seen when one device goes bad the other fails as well, but that was with a PS/2 keyboard and mouse.

The keyboard and mouse on my computer is not responding when XP loads. No keystroke will be processed, including stste canges like caps lock.

The keyboard will work when booting, and both devices will work when I boot linux on the same computer, so I believe it to be a software problem.

I can load "nt recovery console", but I do not know what drive or service I must reenable to get them working again.

Anyone else know?

I'm running a HP Pavilion m7571a.

did you try another keyboard or mouse to see if the problem is with them. Also are they the ones that came with your hp? What about your clock in the bios, it is correct.

Ideacentre Tower - couldn't find an Ideacenter Forum. Windows 10 OS upgrade from Windows 7 over 3 months ago.  System has been working great.  3 days ago Keyboard and Mouse were working correctly.  2 days ago Keyboard and Mouse will not work at all.  System boots up to login screen, but I'm unable to move forward with no keyboard/mouse input. Have already tried a new Lenovo Keyboard and Mouse - no change.  Because the Keyboard and Mouse are not recognized AT ANY TIME during the boot process, I cannot enter the BIOS. I have pulled the hard drive from this computer and can connect it to a 2nd computer.  2nd computer boots up with keyboard and mouse functionality.  Can operate normally on 2nd computer.   Have run "sfc /scannow" and "chkdsk /r" - no errors with either utility.  Knee jerk reaction is that USB ports on 1st computer have gone bad.  1st computer has 8 USB ports and I've tried them all - none provide functionality. Please advise.

I am asking this for a relative because they can't use their computer.

They say that their mouse and keyboard have stopped working. They can only turn the computer off by pushing in the power button. They've had this computer for a few years now. It's a Dell Dimension 2400 (I think), WinXP, about 640-768MB RAM, 60 GB hard drive which is about full, and I think it's about 2GHz Celeron processor. It's also on an (unsecure) wireless network for the purpose of using a DSL connection.

They told me that when they turn on the computer it will go to the AOL screen and that's it. Their screensaver works, but the mouse and keyboard do not.

The mouse is a wireless Microsoft mouse and I think it's PS/2 but I'm not certain. I don't know what brand the keyboard is but it's not wireless is PS/2.
That's all the information I have at this time. Unfortunately they're not too computer savvy and if I didn't already know their computer specs, they never would've been able to provide that information.
Is there anything that I should check out when I go over there? I've never come across this kind of problem before so I'm not sure what to do, especially since I can't use the mouse or keyboard. My first guess would be to try another PS/2 mouse and/or keyboard with the computer turned off. Then if that doesn't work, maybe try a USB mouse or keyboard, which we don't have. Hi there,

I have a relatively new Dell computer that was, up until recently networked wih 4 other computers. My roommate who did the networking did something to the computer so that he could control everything from his laptop (when the password screen popped up, he had to use his wireless keyboard from his laptop to enter it into the Dell).

Here is my problem - my roommate moved out (and very far away) and when I go to turn on my Dell computer now, the password screen pops up, but the mouse and keyboard that is plugged in do not work. I've tried a USB keyboard and a PS2 keyboard and neither work.

I know the password, but is there anything I can do to enable my keyboard and mouse?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kristy

Answer:Keyboard and mouse not working

Only thing I can think of is to check the BIOS settings and I'm not even sure which settings you'd look for. Even though your roommate has moved, are you still in contact? Given the small amount of information you're probably able to post (i.e. if you're not able to log into your PC you can't very well tell us what the settings are) your roommate would probably be the best to give you advice.

Hi

I have an e-machines 420 which initially seemed to have a power issue i.e. it wouldn't power on. After checking all power connectors internally the machine would boot. BUT the ps2 mouse and keyboard would not respond, and the capslock light would flash repeatedly. Also tried USB mouse and keyboard on all usb ports with the exact same result.

After a lot of research, it appeared it could be either the motherboard, so a new Asrock P4i65g was purchased and installed - but the problem remained. So more research, and a new power supply was installed ... but hte problem still remains.

Please help - this is my retired parents pc, we've spent 80 already and who knows how many hours trying to resove this problem.

Any advice gratefully recieved.

Hi,I have a dell desktop computer, about four years old, that I just recently started experiencing a problem with.  I few weeks back I bought a new keyboard because the keys on the original keyboard were sticking.  I bought a wireless keyboard and mouse that work by "connecting" to a thing that plugs into a USB port on my computer.  A few days back I experienced a bit of trouble, where the computer would not recognize the mouse or the keyboard.  I restarted the computer a few times, and pressed the "connect" button on the mouse and keyboard and got it to work just fine.  Last night, I experienced the same problem, except this time I can not get the computer to recognize the mouse or keyboard.  I have tried using all of the USB ports on my computer.  I have tried restarting and also completely unplugging the computer from the powersource and then restarting.  Finally, I have tried using the original mouse and keyboard that came with the computer (that still work, but apparently just not with my computer right now). You might also need to know that my computer is password protected, so I can not get to the start menu or anything, because I can't use my keyboard to enter in the password.Any and all help would be much appreciated.  Thank you!

Welcome to the forums!Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?  (As the computer boots up, you press the F8 key repeatedly until you get the boot options menu.)  You should get a black screen with white text that is titled "Windows Advanced Options Menu."  Please select Safe Mode and see if you can use the keyboard and mouse in safe mode, and then perhaps re-enable the USB.

Answer:Mouse/Keyboard not working

Did you fiddle with the connectors while under power? PS/2 ports are not hot swappable. Look in Device Manager to see if you have any listings for those devices. Should state in the description if they are PS/2 or not. If present in Device Manager, remove them and reboot.

So 2 or so years ago one of my computers pooped out on me. If I am remembering correctly at first i got the google re-direct virus but eventually my mouse and keyboard stopped working entirely. They we're wireless, I gave them new batteries and still nothing. I even tried borrowing from my parents to see if it was just the wireless itself thru usb and still nothing. I remember downloading Norton Antivirus (yes, illegally-gasp, and a dumb move I know) just before it all happened (mouse/keyboard issues) so I'm not sure if thats what caused it and I honestly don't remember what all I did at that point to try and fix it. I'm guessing I d/l Norton to try and get rid of the virus but I think it made things worse and maybe it had a virus too? I think I tried setting the date back after the google issue...? At any rate my parents got me a new computer so I just stopped worrying about it but I'd like to get old pictures and videos off of my old one and tried again today to no avail. I tried with my new keyboard and mouse which are usb and nothing. It immediately takes me to the blue screen chkdsk thing and runs through the 5 steps. B/c the keyboard doesn't work I can't just bypass it but it never fully finishes the 5 steps. It gets to the 5th and doesn't get past 0 percent even after waiting 3 hours. Any idea what is wrong and how I could fix it? A lil help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This would mean there is a problem with the HDD if it can't finish Check Disk. You can remove the HDD from the computer and attach it internally to a desktop computer, Via a USB Adapter or put it in USB Enclosure. If you can access the drive, be sure to do a thorough Anti-Virus scan on the drive before copying any files to the new computer or you will infect that computer too.

I'm pretty sure I caught a virus on my PC. My cursor got stuck in the address bar, and Ctl+Alt+Del wouldn't work, so I shut off the computer, and after it rebooted, everything seemed to work fine. I opened up firefox, and as soon as it opened, the cursor got stuck again, this time in the middle of the page.

Now every time I reboot, the cursor is stuck in the same place. Everything loads fine, and I even see the usual "Internet Connection is now connected". However, the keyboard won't work, and the mouse won't work. They're both wireless (Logitech) and show that they're connected. F1 on the keyboard lights up the battery light, so it's obviously connected. I think it's a virus, and I don't know how to proceed. I can't reboot in safe mode, since the keyboard doesn't work, and I can't go to the Start menu either. Any suggestion on how to proceed, so I can get rid of this virus. Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I've tried a few forums and received no help so I'm hoping I've found my place..

I have a Logitech G11 keyboard and a Logitech G5 mouse. Both are USB. They worked fine up until about 3 weeks ago. Both the mouse and keyboard work perfectly fine during BIOS. I can run the setup commands and all that jazz fine. However, once windows boots (I'm running on Windows 7 Home) neither work. The lights on both aren't on and there is no response.

I've thought about the possibility of it being the USB ports but it is not, the keyboard and mouse work fine in other PCs, it detects my external harddrive when I plug it in, and USB keyboards and mice are equally unresponsive once windows is booted. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

PS, if it is a driver problem, how am I supposed to get new drivers without a working mouse or keyboard? This is an aggravating problem because I've replaced every piece of hardware inside my case in the last 6 months except my video card, and some small problem like this always seems to keep my machine from working at all.

I have Windows 7 64-bit.I was trying to restore my iTouch and neither iTunes or my computer would recognize the device. So I decided to restart the computer. Clicked restart in the start menu but when the computer restarted my USB drives were not working at all. Keyboard, mouse, flash drives don't work. Also, the ethernet cable slot was no longer working. I shut down by holding down the power button, tried safe mode because I can use the keyboard before I've completed startup. Also, the computer auto logs in to the main account, so I can get past the user screen. Safe mode didn't work. I tried other stuff but don't really remember.I had Input Director installed but the ethernet cable slot that it works through doesn't work so I still can't access the messed up computer..Any ideas?

Answer:Mouse and keyboard not working

Upon checking of what type of software you installed, Input Director, controls keyboard, mouse and able to set a master/slave system. Wherein a Master system is able to manipulate, monitor added PC set as slave by entering IP address/es. Which could suspectly be for sudden ethernet card/cable(?) problem. I would try first checking Hardware on Device Manager to see if there are no conflicts or certain marks on USB Controllers. Check on Input Director configuration(Master, Slave) or "disabling". Look onto IP address for ethernet card issue. IF nothing else falls, "uninstalling" the software is the other best thing to identify whether its a hardware(ethernet cable/card) issue and "installing" it after you have done restoring your desired installation.

I built a computer about 3 months ago and began having a temperature problem, I opened up the case and found that the plastic bkt on the motherboard that holds the heatsink down, had a broken tab... i took the motherboard out, took of the bkt, fixed it and put everything back together. My problem now is that when i boot up the computer, it will boot up to windows, but my mouse and keyboard are dead. Ive tried unplugging everything, just plugging one or the other in but no luck. Anybody have any suggestions?

Answer:Mouse and Keyboard not working.

Hello,

Boot into safe mode and see if your keyboard and mouse work there...

Just before the Windows splash screen (the loading graphic)...press F8. Then select to boot into Safe Mode.

If your keyboard and mouse work during POST (before the OS boots) then it's likely to be a driver issue.

I have the same thing as Tinyman...no keyboard or mouse by attempting to add safe mode with networking. What is UEFI?
Where do I find this USB viewable option as I am connected by USB?

I went to set up (F2 at boot) > and then searched around for anything that relates to USB and found that USB is enabled and on high speed. Hope that is not it and I am missing something, because I still have no mouse or keyboard.

Keyboard and mouse are the ones that came with the Dell XPS 7100 system.

I'll try different USB ports and report back...didn't make a difference.
What am I missing? (except for my mouse and keyboard...lol)

Answer:Keyboard and mouse not working

Hello Rich,

The tutorial below can help show you how to boot to your UEFI firmware settings to check to see if you have the mouse and keyboard enabled at boot.

Answer:Keyboard and mouse not working help!!!!

We often forget that a system restore or a last known configuration just might fix the
problem.

How to start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature
To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:
Start your computer.
When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER.

Okay so this is my wifes computer, its an old, Dell dimension 2400.

Okay, so the problem started with the USB drives not working properly... they would not recognize any new hardware, but still recognized things that had already been installed, and would work them just fine.

she tried to use microsofts website to solve the problem, but to use the "fix it for me" option, she had to download and instal the .net framework 2 or higher, so she installed 4 because it was the newest.

after she restarted her computer, her computer no longer recognized her PS/2 keyboard or mouse.

however, on start up, it will recognize the keyboard, because you can hit F2, F8 and F12 to go to the different menus, and use the keyboard just fine.
I have no clue what the problem is... but does anyone have anyide of how to fix it? not much you can do when the keyboard and mouse don't work.

thanks :3

also, any sugestions on how to fix the USB problem after the keyboard/mouse problem would be appreciated ^.^

Answer:PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse not working.

dells are hell for this issue, press delete or watch for the quick flash up on post saying something like press f12 for boot up configurations or bios
anyhow get to bios eventually, look for usb and keyboard support make sure its enabled

after go to dells utility which all dells have usually press f10 on start up to access full range of tools , there are usb port checks available there

if you end up back at square one with no improvmnet, go to device manager start run type devmgmt.msc check no red Xs in there or yellows

if that is ok then possible reinstallation required and/or your mobo is faulty (very common on dells)

Greetings. I have an msi z170a gaming motherboard that cant use usb mouse or keyboard during boot up of bios, windows recovery or windows cd... I need some help because now i get the windows start screen where it says start windows recovery or start normaly.... I really need some help. This started because i needed to use the windows control panel to boot up with yesterdays settings due to too much messing around with an android emulator called andy. I disabled the norton program, tried to install it, got trough the installation, but when i actovated norton again. The norton program would not activate Sonar protection, after battling with virus scans.i managed go get everything else but the sonar working so i activated the reboot with yesterdays settings alternative... And forgot that i had this issue with usb keyboards and mouse not working on the computer before the logging in part of the os. The tower has only 2 usb 2.0 ports but those wont work either...
I appreciate every inch of help i may get.

Answer:Usb mouse and keyboard not working

Whatever others suggest may i suggest cloning your drive weekly when the computer is working correctly, then a easy drive swap when things go awry.

I'm sorry if this thread has already been sorted but I can't find an answer to my particular problem.
I changed my keyboard and loaded the keyboard driver and since then the keyboard or mouse will not work.
I switch on the pc it boots ok but as I said KB or mouse will not work.
I shut down via power switch to force the pc to ask "start normally, safe mode etc" at this point I can use the keyboard, I then select any of the above, allow the PC to boot, and same problem.
I have tried to "Repair" with Vista disk but I have a Reminder program that is "ontop" so cannot get access to the Repair window because --- thats right KB and mouse will not work.
Can you give me any help please on how to access the control panel, as I feel sure that if I remove the KB driver all will be ok.
I have connected the KB for which I loaded the driver no go. Replaced KB with a no frills one, no go.
I was using a wireless mouse originally and have changed that also to a basic one.
Please help

Answer:Keyboard/mouse not working

Hello Still Learning, welcome.

Ok so a quick recap; you updated your driver, now neither kb nor mouse work. You tried a different kb and mouse and same problem. Reinstall of Vista did nothing.

If you boot in safe mode does the kb or mouse work? Even if just the mouse, you can fix it.

Answer:USB mouse and keyboard not working

I currently have a working install on a second harddrive in this computer. I was wondering if there was any way I can access the other windows install from this one and use it to fix the problem? I guess this also means that the problem is due to a driver because the mouse and keyboard work on the new install.

I work at a condo and our security system is all run through a server. We have a tower PC connected to it to make changes and for our security screens. It operates with Windows XP.

Today we shut it all down, and relocated the monitor, mouse and keyboard.
When we fired it back up, the mouse and keyboard, both PS/2 interface were not working.

I tried uninstalling the devices, but they do not show up in the device manager, even with "hidden devices" enabled, they still dont show up.

Well, to be fair, the PS/2 mouse worked for a bit. We shut down, switched the PS/2 between mouse and keyboard and restarted with no luck. After a few tires, the mouse failed to work.

Currently I have a backup USB mouse and keyboard, but because of the location of the server, we are running extension cables for the PS/2 devices. (they do not work even if plugged directly to the PC).

I suspect one may have been disconnected while the machine was still on.

Suggestions?

Hi - I have messed up the keyboard and mouse drivers on my Windows 10 installation, so now when I boot up I have no input possibilities. What are my options?
I don't have a "recovery" disk - but I do have a Windows 10 install USB.
I don't have any restore points.
I have tried restarting many times - with and without the keyboard and mouse attached.
How can I "reset" the input drivers?
Thanks.
