Ideapad 710S battery charge indicator issue

Question: Ideapad 710S battery charge indicator issue

Just received my new notebook and am extremely happy with it, execept for the battery indicator. The effective charge reamining, fluctuates by a wide margin, suddenly jumping from 4 hours remaining - to 3 hours - to 6 hours in a matter of minutes! The PC was left in idle state with no processing happening whatsoever. at 100% charge it shows 5 hours 6 mts of remaining time, as the charge drops to 97% after 5 mins of idle, the remaining time changes to 2 hrs 34 mins and at 94% charge after another 5 mins, it shows 7 hr 20 mins of remianing time! I called Lenovo service and after one hour of trying this and and that, they offered to replace the PC with a comment that battery takes 1 week to settle down and stabilise! I find that a bit out of the ordinary. My config is 710S, i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Windows 10, with Lenovo optimiser loaded. (The battery gauge reset, suggested by service is missing in this version - the service staff themselves could not find it). Is anyone else having similar issues?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a new Thinkpad Edge 420s and the battery works and charges just fine, but I don't know how to tell if the battery is fully charged when I have the laptop shut down.  When I plug the power in, the green light comes on solid and never goes off, blinks or changes color.  If I don't have the laptop on and can't use the Windows battery meter readings then I don't know when it is fully charged and ready to go.  I have installed the battery firmware that my ThinkVantage Toolbox said I needed and there has been no change in this particular issue.  Is there a setting somewhere I need to change? Thanks!

It looks like I may have left my Yoga 11 out in the hot car for too long. I got home and turned it on (unplugged, not charging), only to have it fail to startup properly (only a black screen, not the usual Lenovo logo). I pushed the power button for 20s and all lights went off. This I expected. What follows, I did not. Noticing how hot the computer was (hot to the touch), I plugged it in and let it sit until it cooled down a bit. The light that normally shows the battery is charging did not turn on - this has not changed. I can no longer turn on the computer either. Has anyone else had this problem? Did something critical in the interior melt, perhaps? I'm hoping I don't have to replace this unit. Can Lenovo support tell me what the policies are on replacing a machine like this?

Hello there! I bought the Ideapad 710s recently but i'm experiencing a serious WiFi issue. After cold start the wireless network adapter cannot be recognised. There isn't even an entry in the device manager pointing to an unknown device or a missing driver. It is absolutely not possible to allow it. Restart doesn't help either. After many restarts and attempts to switch th adapter on, I've succeded, and from that moment on, it stays active with no further issue. Countless resarts later it's still on and the function is okay. The problem is, that on the next day (i think that means, when the notebook is cold) the issues appears again. There is no network adapter, and it appears much later. What i've tried by now: 1. Did a full Windows update2. Reinstalled every single driver from the Lenovo support center3. Turned every single energy saving feature off4. Did a BIOS update5. Did a full system recovery (and repeated the steps 1, 2 and 3)6 Made a clean Windows 10 installation (and repeated the steps 1, 2 and 3) After each and every of the steps mentioned above, the issue appeared after cold start on the next day and disappeared after about an hour of being turned on. The wireless adapter is UEFI ENABLED all the time. Well after two weeks and countless attempts to solve the problem i have no idea, what more could i possibly do. Does someone experienced such issue, and if yes, what was the solution for it. Best regards and happy new year!

If you bring up the ThinkVantager Power Manager Utility and click on the Options button, there should be a checkbox for it. If it is already checked and you haven't restarted your computer yet, I would try that first.

Today, completely out of the blue, the charge indicator for the battery in my laptop started flickering on and off, even when not plugged in. It's not any sort of code it just flickers completely randomly at varying intervals of time. Please, any help would be appreciated! I've looked around the internet for hours but the one solution someone on these forums had (to drain the battery and let it charge to full) didn't work for me and I have no idea what to do. I'm running windows 10 if that helps and I've tried to restore my computer from before it started happening to no avail.

Problems with the new Asus laptop :-(With the computer asleep or shut down the orange battery charging indicator light flickers. The laptop will not start up unless mains power adaptor is connected and switched on. It appears to function normally then but the battery state icon popup in the system tray says "Power connected, battery NOT charging". The level in the battery is indeed declining. The charge indicator light is now flashing steadily with a frequency a little more than 1Hz. Unplugging the charger makes the little plug on the icon go away but no difference to the charge indicator light. This happened after I got a message from Asus telling me that I needed to ugrape the BIOS which, like a fool, I did!How can I restore normality to the poor thing?T

Hello, Recently the AC Adaptor for my Lenovo G700 was damaged and I had to order a replacement. In the interim, the battery in my laptop died. My replacement came in the mail today and I plugged the charger in and waited for about 10 minutes. Then I noticed that the charge LED wasn't on. I tried to boot the system but the power LED flickered for a quarter second before promptly dying. My hands are a bit tied because I can't turn on the laptop and see if there is an issue with the battery but I'm suspecting the problem lies with the charge plugin (to the laptop, not from the wall) anyhow. Is there anything I can do to fix this? AFAIK the warranty has expired. I appreciate any responses I can get regarding this matter.

Answer:G700 battery dead, charge light indicator not on when plugged in

UPDATE: I found out what the issue was after a bit of labour. I tested the voltage on my AC adaptor to ensure it was working properly, which it is thankfully. Then, I carefully disassembled the laptop (I don't recommend doing this if you have still have your warranty of course) to get at the power jack. I then removed it and tested the voltage. It reads fine when held still but slight jostling plummeted the result down to 0 indicating a faulty connection. Now I guess I'll have to find out where I can get a replacement part. At least it wasn't the motherboard!

My toshiba laptop C650 has sistem indicator for charging always amber.
Even if it is full charged.

If I disconnect it from charger it runs from battery long enought, this tell me may battery is ok.
But why this indicator stay amber ? Is there a problem ?

Do I have to worry about that ?
Thank you.

Answer:Satellite C650: Battery indicator is always amber even after full charge

Hi

Usually the battery indicator should switch to green (color depends to notebook model) if the battery is fully charged.
If the battery indicator does not switch from amber to green/blue then this would mean that the battery is not fully charged?
Well, maybe you should try to calibrate the battery once again?
Discharge the battery until its fully empty, then charge it again until the battery status would show 100% of charge? then discharge the battery again? this procedure should be repeated two, three times in the row!

If this does not help, well? you could test a new battery but I don?t know if its worth to purchase a new battery if the current battery still works ok.

When powered on charging light flashes yellow.
Battery does not charge and if battery removed the laptop shuts down.

At time this problem does not happen.

Moreover, when power cord is removed, battery charges for few moments and then yellow flashing light comes on and charging stops. When shutdown, the battery charges normal and 100% charged battery gives almost 4 hours time.

Can any one please guide about the problem. Is the problem in power adapter? or the battery? or the motherboard/hardware?

How to verify problem?

Answer:Satellite Pro L500: indicator flashing amber - battery doesn't charge

It seems that you already posted an thread about similar issue with your notebook some years ago.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=63225

In first case it seems that your battery was the troublemaker.

You are talking about charging indicator. I?m not quite sure what LED should it be.
There are 5 LEDs - from left: DC IN / Power / Battery / HDD, ODD / Bridge Media Slot

The first DC IN indicator glows green when power is being correctly supplied form the AC adaptor. However, if the output voltage from AC adaptor is abnormal or if the computers power supply malfunctions, this LED will go out.

The second from left Power indicator glows green when the notebook is turned on. If you turn the notebook into the sleep mode, this indicator flashes amber.

The third battery indicator show the conditions of the batter charge. Green indicates the battery is fully charged, amber indicates the battery is charging and flashing amber indicates a low battery condition.

Question:
Are you able to power up the unit without the battery but using just a connected AC adaptor?
Usually this should be possible even if the battery isn?t inserted.

Hi all. I recently noticed that my LED battery status indicator (located on the lid) is constantly ON even after netbook was shut off (shut down). It is ON regardless if I connect or disconnect charger. The only difference is when I disconect charger, it becomes dimmer. When I connect it - it becomes more bright. Answer:Ideapad Y500 Battery Status Indicator Light Always ON

Hi KrishnaFT9,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The battery indicator always on indicates that the battery has sufficient charge to run the computer and when the indicator turns red means that the battery needs to be recharged, this is the new type of indication and this is normal and there is no need to worry.

I have an IdeaPad 500.  The A/C charger is "plugged in" and the icon says it is "charging" but there is no charge to the battery, which is now at 53% (it was 55% yesterday).   I have gone to the forum and done what they suggest (e.g. turned off the Conservation Mode).  Unlike most questions on the forum, my system says "charging" rather than "not charging".  And because it is an IdeaPad, I cannot remove the battery (at least not without opening up the case).  I am a bit worried this is a hardware/battery failure -- but I hope this forum might give me a software fix

Thanks in advance

I can think of two choices for your situation. Buy the Lenovo sourced battery or uninstall power manager and work only with the Windows ACPI power interface. I had similar issue with a much older laptop and uninstalling power manager allowed me to use the aftermarket battery with out the nag screens.

This just started happening recently. The power indicator light (near the power plug) does not turn on and Windows does not recognize when the adapter is plugged in; the power icon and cusomized power saving "on battery" behavior reflect that. HOWEVER, the battery does charge. The "lightning bolt" charging light on the front between HDD and system power lights comes on and the battery recharges if not at 100%. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this? Is it more likely a Windows or hardware problem? The BIOS does not have the power adapter test mentioned here, and I could not find the software download for the Smart Adapter functionality (this laptop was installed with clean, non-OEM OS, so any OEM software had to be added manually). Thanks in advance,Kyle

I had my laptop battery die on me, and when I plugged the AC adapter in, it would not charge. No light on the laptop, nothing. I tried the adapter on a different machine and it was charging, so the adapter was fine. I plugged it into my own again a few minutes later and worked. I noticed that the machine was hot at the time when the battery died. Do these laptops have some kind of feature built in that does not allow you to charge the battery if it's too hot, or is this perhaps a just an unrelated defect that will worsen over time if I don't have it checked out? Thanks in advance,Eric

Answer:Ideapad Z400, Z500, Z510 battery will not charge -...

Hi CuriousFox ,

Greetings.

To isolate fastest is to have another battery to use or charging the original battery on a known working compatible laptop.
The power checkout guide of the hardware machine manual provides steps to check battery charging integrity (example form Z510 manual page 21) .

You can also try plugging the laptop but not turning it on for 1-2 hours checking if there would be changes with the battery indicator LED.

Would it be the same using similar energy manager and operating system that came originally with the machine?
How is the battery health and battery report?

Update us how it goes.

I have two Lenovo Y40-70 computers that I purchased within a couple weeks of each other.  They came with Windows 8.1 but I upgraded to Windows 10. A few months ago, I noticed that my computer battery meter was reading 100% for an hour.  I continued to work unplugged until the battery died while still reading 100%.  I recharged and the battery again read 100% for more than a couple hours, then died.  So the battery lifetime is as good as always, but the reading is not right.  When I reboot, it still reads 100%. Strangely, the second system, whcih I had not used for a while, was OK, but a few days later, it started doing the same thing (though it was reading 87%, the charge when the computer last worked right.  I suscpect that this happened after a critical update, which the second system went through later. Recently, I downloaded from the Lenovo website the newer power management software on both computers, and it did not help. Then I noticed the Battery recall so downloaded the "Lenovo Battery Utility 2015" to see if my system was afffected by the problem.  When I run the utility, I get the mssage "No Battery Detect."  So it would appear that there may be an issue with the software detecting the batter. Since I can't know the state of the battery (it appears to not want to recharge until it's empty, I gues because it thinks it's 100% charged), I cannot count on this computer when it's not plugged in. Now I ... Hello, I've had my IdeaPad s405 for over a year and I've mostly been happy with it. However, after updating to Windows 8.1 a few days ago, my battery will not charge past ~50%It's very frustrating. One solution I've seen is to download the "Lenovo Settings" app, then, in the power settings, make sure the battery is set to "always fully charge." I downloaded the app, and found that that feature had been removed in the current version. I downloaded an earlier version ("Lenovo Settings Dependency Package") and found that it could only beused with ThinkPads.I also cannot find any solution "power options" that are built into the computer. If anyone can help, I would be very grateful. It's incredibly aggravating to be unable to fully charge a perfectly good battery.Thanks.

Can anyone help with why the battery suddenly wont take a charge I have done the usual and checked the mains plug, supply and all functioning correctly. The charger box lights up as normal when plugged intob the mains and but lap top when running from the operating system (windows 7) shows %zero and not charging. The charging jack point on the laptop does have some movement and I suspect that could be the problem? if thats the problem i thought I would be covered under warranty having purchased from tescos in dec 2009 but for some reason the warranty check on the web site reckons it ran out on the 19/08/2009..Anyone shed some light on that...might help. Many thanks

Hey guys, Im hoping someome can help me. As the subject states my IdeaPad will not charge when i plug it in.  By the time i realised the problem i was running low on power and in trying to find a resolution to the problem online the power went and my laptop cut out. Now i cant turn the machine on or charge the laptop as the laptop doesnt want to know.  Ive tried using different sockets etc and im pretty sure theres nothing wrong with my charging lead.  The problem seems to of come out of nowhere. Has anyone been on the same boat?   Cheers for your help all.

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 battery is out of juice and it wont charge

Hi thePirate,

Welcome to the community,

The fact that the laptop has an internal battery limits a bit the troubleshooting I can provide.

Are you able to get a hold of another power cable to try completely rule out that it might be the charger?

If not then realistically the only thing I could recommend is to get in touch with support and to arrange a repair.

Sorry I couldn't offer more help.

Hello,

I own Satellite L40-18w and I have a problem. When the battery is low or is charging the led is amber, but when it is fully charged there is no led indicator. Even if I turn it on, there is no light and if I check Power options AC adapter connection is recognized. OS is Windows XP PRO SP2. I`ve tried to find the Toshiba Power Saver but it seems that it does not support L40.

Could it be a hardware or a software problem?
Thank you for your help in advance!

Hi,

Since beginning 2015, I own a Toshiba Tecra Z40-A-16C.

I noticed some strange behaviour with regards to the battery life indicator. When the notebook is fully charged, the indicator shows 100% remaining. And, when I use the notebook, the percentage slowly decreases, as expected.
However, once it is somewhere around 50%, the indicator suddenly decreases and says it has only 5 or 4% left and I should plug in immediately.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Regards,
Oliver

Answer:Tecra Z40-A-16C - battery life indicator issue

The battery may need calibrating. Recharge and discharge it completely a few times.

If it still happens, the battery may need replacing. You can check the wear level using HWMonitor from cpuid.com.

At 23th December, 2013, the battery of my sons IdeaPad B59 notebook went Wrong. It does not charge. The lates update of the Lenovo softwares are installed, but it gives error messages. I tried to call the local service center, but it does not answer.  After 10-15 minutes of the mucic from the call center pfone (tried today several times!) I give up. Does it exist ANY working contact with the local (Hungary, Budapest) Lenovo service people? I bought the IdeaPad B590 laptop on 24.07.2013 in Budapest, and have a  (possibly) valid warranty for it. Any prompt solution?

Got the same issue that windows users had but, I can solve the same way cuz I did Install Linux on my s400, is there anything that  can do under linux?

Answer:ideapad S400 battery charge until 60% and stop charging, on Linux

Hi Yasumitsu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your S400 Laptop is charging only upto 60%, this issue in windows will get resolved by install the LEM (Lenovo Energy Management) and by choosing the (Optimized Battery Health), the Battery charges only to 60% and stops charging the battery and then it take its power from the charger, so if you want to charge the battery to 100%, you need to choose (Maximum Battery Life).

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards

Hi, I have updated my laptop z500 with the latest energy management software from lenovo. I am mostly using my laptop on AC charging. I have read in some forum topics that we can lock the battery at 60 percent charge and then use the laptop on AC power. I am not able to find the options in my version. Please, let me know the steps to do so. By the was I am running on Win 8.

Answer:Ideapad z500 energy management how to lock battery at 60 % charge

hi danish_jpr,

Can you try to:
1. Open Lenovo Energy Management on the system notification area and set battery status to "Optimized Battery Health"
 Link to picture

2. Use the computer just with the battery and drain it up to 10% or until the system goes to sleep/hibernate. When the unit turns off or reaches 10% battery life, plug the AC adapter and observe the battery status (the charge should now be halted at 60%).

I recently bought a new battery on Amazon for my IdeaPad z580.  It's a Lenovo branded battery, not a cheap generic one.  When I plug the battery into the laptop, it shows 69% charge, but indicates "Not Charging" even when the laptop is plugged in.  I also notice that on the front of the machnine, the battery LED fast flashes an orange color. If I use the older battery, it charges fine and no orange LED. Bad battery or I have I missed something?

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S100c  Good day! I'm a complete novice at computer troubleshooting. So, please excuse me if I sound like an idiot.  I bought the laptop just 10 days ago (warranty of 1 year). It worked fine before but suddenly the battery won't charge. The icon indicates that it is 'plugged in, charging'. But even if i leave it with the charger plugged in, it won't seem to store the 'charge' and now I'm stuck at 6%.  This is not the first time this problem occurred. One time, I shut it down and plugged it into the charger and left it to charge for a couple of hours. When I opened it, it didn't seem to charge at all. So, I opted to charge it while it was open and it worked.  And, now I leave it open when I charge it but it doesn't seem to although it is indicated. Should I wait for a miracle to happen or do I get a new battery pack?Thank you in advance.

Answer:Ideapad S100c battery problems. 'Plugged in, charging' but does not store charge.

hi CynicalTurtle,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the battery and AC adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for 30secs
3. Insert the AC adapter and boot into WIndows
4. When the WIndows OS is loaded, slide the battery back in place and see if it takes a charge
5. If the battery still doesn't charge, try to perform a battery gauge reset as discussed in this article.

If the battery starts charge, monitor the battery health by using Passmark's BatteryMon.
If the problem persist and the battery still doesn't charge, I recommend you contact lenovo for a replacement battery.

Hope this helps

Hi there! I just recieved my refurb ideapad z500 and not only was the battery not working ,but it has a wierd small white/bright spot on the screen. Will waranty replace it? Also what is it? Thanks!     I picked up my laptop last Friday from UPS. As soon as I got arround to opening it, I noticed that it would no power on without being pluggen in. That is strange because all my previous laptops had at least enough charge to power on, and it said it had 34%(when I powered it on with the power cord). That was the first strange thing. Then, after about a couple hours, I checked to see if it had charged anymore and it still said ?Plugged in, charging 34%?. I left it all night. The next morning, I went to see if it had moved. It hadnt. Then I thought maybe it was just saying that so I unplugged it. It still wouldn?t come on without the power cord. Then on Sunday it finally told me ?Plugged in, Not charging 34%. Somethings wrong with it. Then, I noticed a strange white spot on the right side of the display. It was really annoying me so I called in and added that to the repair list. I just Googled it and it seems like a problem with some lenovo laptops. I also talked to my friend (who knows a lot about computers) and he said it was something behind the display. Will they fix these issues since it was supposedly "inspected" and was as good as new. Thanks!

We have recently purchased 3 E530's.Each of them has charging issues. 1 would not charge past 3%, another past 54% & the last one past 75%.I noticed the Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Utility in support express, but it does not seem to include this model.I installed the lenovo power management tool as a last gasp hope, as i could not find anyone else with this issue searching on google. For some reason, once this tool was installed, all 3 machines now charge fully. Is this something lenovo have input to make you download all of their products rather than doing a fresh install? Or is this a genuine fault?

Welcome to the Forums!

Please verify that the BIOS is uptodate on the machines, I know there was an update in the past for the E530 to fix a battery threshold issue. I do not know what OS you are using so here is the link to the Driver Matrix. Let me know if you have any problem finding the update or verifying the BIOS version.

I hope this helps.

As this is my first post,  Hello all! I'm a longtime Thinkpad user, appreciating my previous T60 and T400 for their repairability and durability.  I've just bought a used thinkpad t430s, and I bought a battery for it as it didn't come with one. My issue is, the battery worked fine the first couple times I used it, but now it drains instantly if I unplug from the wall. After I restart the machine, the battery says 0% (charging), and after a short while (10+ minutes) returns to claiming fully charged (100%). So far, I have updated the bios, installed the lenovo power management software, installed the lenovo power management driver, tried removing the microsoft acpi driver without the battery in, then turning off and trying to start on battery  (no luck turns off immediately as well, critical low battery error). I also did this thing someone recommended for battery trouble where you shut down the computer and remove the power sources, then hold down the power button for a minute. The battery health is good, it has had three charge cycles, and this number isn't going up with my little drop downs to 0% and back up to 100% whenever I unplug the machine. I would like help in figuring out if this is a problem with the battery, hardware, or software of the computer. I am running windows 7 pro 64 SP1. i7-3520M @2.9ghz. Thanks in advance!  Ryan

Hi and welcome, moreryanIs the battery Lenovo genuine, has Lenovo FRU p/n?Have you get it from the Lenovo related store?Could you make a snapshot of the battery surface labels with quality enough to recognize labels, symbols? As you can't publish images here, in the post yet, provide an external link. Also, as your OS is win7 and I hope Lenovo Power Manager application is installed, what are the values of the second half of the battery parameters (manufacturer name and followed) PM shows in the Battery tab? Make a snapshot as well.Answers and images are needed to understand whether the battery is faked since the battery for T430 should have HW authentication.

Answer:Thinkpad T440s internal battery won't charge beyond 80% and external battery won't charge at all

Hi Nicktr,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I think the problem you are running into is Power Manager conflicting with the 80% BIOS threshold. So to avoid this, either keeps the Power Manager threshold for both batteries below 80%, or else both batteries above 80%.

Hope this helps.

I have been getting this weird charge discharge cycle on my Pavilion 15. I pretty much have my Laptop always plugged in. A couple of days ago it shutdown in a blink even though it was at full charge. Then it would'nt start even when I pressed the power ON button. It started after I took out the battery and put it back in. Ever since then its trapped in a cycle where it always shows "2 mins to charge" in the notification icon and a certain percentage. Then when the percentage hits 100 it stops charging and instead discharges gradually even though it's plugged in. When it hits 0% it shutsdown again and won't start till I take the battery off.  Can someone tell me whether this is a problem with the battery or the charger and how can I fix this. Thanks

Hello Folks My G580 was working fine until one day I noticed that the battery stopped charging, even though AC adaptor was plugged in, and the plug icon next to the battery icon was missing.  I didn't get that "plugged in but not charging" message. I though the AC adaptor was broken, so I tried it on another laptop but turned out the chord wasn't the problem. Eventually the battery died, so I ordered another, a brand new one, thinking the original battery must have worn out,  and that it could be the reason why it wasn't charging.  The new battery worked fine, as it came with some juice, but when I connected the AC adaptor, the plug icon next to the battery icon wasn't showing on the screen, it wasn't charging again!, and the battery kept discharging as it does with normal use.  Then I removed the battery, plugged in the chord, and to my surprise, computer switched on, kept running, without any battery attached to it, for as long as AC adaptor was connected to it. and this time it DID show the plug icon that would normally show when charging,  whereas the battery icon was crossed out with a red XIn sum, I can use my laptop normally while connected to the power source, with the AC adaptor, as long as battery is removed, but If I attach the battery, it won't charge and it eventually die. ;Any Idea how to solve this problem? I really like my G580, I had it for not even two months  Thanks everybody

Less than a month ago I bought a brand new Lenovo Ideapad 710s, today it suddenly turned off even though it's battery was at 64%. I then plugged in the charger and tried turning it on - nothing happened. Then I held down the power button at it turned on. Only to turn off again after about 15 minutes. Now, it won't turn on at all.If I hold down the power button, the light behind the keyboard blinks, but the screen stays black. When I plug in the charger, the light that shows it is charging is on, so the charger is working.I just can't turn on my computer at all. I don't know if this information is needed, but I have used it almost every day, around 6 hours every day I've used it (I'm using it for school only). The only things installed on the computer was Office 365 and a driver so that I could use my printer.Any idea how to get it working again?

Hi - the current version of the ideapad 710s BIOS does not allow changing of the SATA/drive mode from RAID to AHCI. As a result, it is pretty much impossible to install Linux onto these systems. I've tried multiple combinations of things - completely wiped the drive, disabled UEFI, Secure Boot and enabled Legacy mode, etc - and nothing works.  The currently locked SATA mode basically prevents Linux from even seeing the SSD.  I've tried the latest versions of Ubuntu and Gentoo - both with the same result. Is there any reason why this setting is not exposed?  Are there any plans to expose it?

Okay so I've had this computer less than 3 months and it's given me nothing but problems. Now it refuses to even turn on. The power LED turns on but the screen remains blank. This is an non removal battery type before anyone says remove the battery and use the adapter. I've drained the battery which has worked before but this time when I try to charge it the orange battery LED blinks three times. And still nothing on the screen. Any Lenovo stores are quite far away. Anyone knows what's going on?

Hello all, I'm having this interesting problem with my batteries. Whenever I discharge the normal 9-cell, as soon as it reaches 40% remaining it immediately jumps to 6%, and proceeds to hibernate within minutes. It seems to happen whenever I charge both the 9-cell and the slice together, though I have not yet tested charging them separately (doing that as we speak). Also worth noting is that when charging with both batteries, the status jumps from 6% to ~24% immediately. I can't tell whether this is a software glitch or if some of the cells in the 9-cell normal battery are dead. I will try charging it without the the slice and update accordingly. In the meantime, any & all help would be appreciated. Some more details:T430 Win7 Pro x64Intel i7, 8GB ram, 180GB SSD + 500GB Ultrabay9-Cell normal battery and 9-cell slice Please let me know if anything needs clarification. Thanks fellow thinkers! -DB UPDATE: I just tested it, and it does seem to be a dead cell (or 3) in the battery. It just jumped from 43% to 6% again.

Answer:T430 9-Cell Battery Charge Issue When Combined With Slice

This is usually a sign that there is a bad cell in the 9-cell battery. As you say, try to recharge with just the 9-cell and see if there's any diiference.

How old is the battery and how many cycles has it been through?

Randomly I got the Blue Screen of Death error DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION and apparently this issue occurs because the iastor.sys driver, is not compatible with Windows 10. So I changed the storage controller from Intel Rapid Storage sata controller to Intel mobile express chipset sata controller which was the other driver already on my 3 week old laptop. However, after this the laptop would not boot! It just kept saying 'automatically attempting repairs'. I then went into the BIOS and changed the SATA from RAID to AHCI and then the laptop would boot. But now the driver is just 'Standard NVM Express Controller'. I tried to reinstall the intel rapid stroage sata controller driver but then the laptop would not boot in RAID or AHCI! So I had to do a system restore and now the laptop seems to be working on AHCI and it has a boot loop on RAID.  My question is, should I put the laptop back on RAID (original factory setting) and after the boot loop should I reset the laptop to install a fresh copy of Win10 from recovery? Or should I leave it as it is now on AHCI with Microsoft Standard NVM Express Controller driver? Are there any disadvantages? My SSD is a Samsung PM961 (samsung mzvlw512hmjp) I need some help quickly before my 30 days returns period runs out. I really like the laptop but are there any problems with it?

Got my laptop after almost 2 weeks of placing the order. Although the wait was worth it, just after third day I found a crack on the hinge. I was extremely cautious in handling the laptop, mind you, and i believe this weather was present since day 1. I know the crack is really small, but i'm afraid of the integrity of the hinge itself. Not sure if I could claim a return or exchange. http://goo.gl/6dsidu

I bought ideapad 710S after research and survey, but the performance of 710s is really disappointing. The computer has strange problem and unstable performance. After my first week, I sent it to the maintanence center. Lenovo maintenance center was nice enough to change the mainboard for me. However, after 3 weeks of using, the problems reoccured again. the computer has slow processing capability.  I use simple word program and my typing does not show on the screen simultanously, instead there is the waiting cycle icon keeps apperaing. Plus, there seem to be extreme heat release problem with lound fan noise. I returned to the maintenance center and after that 3 weeks, the shop replaced ROM and heat fan.
When I got home, I started working on the document and recognize heat problem is gone. However, the delay processing problem remains. I have a problem getting my work done with this 710S because everything delays. By everything I mean my typed sentence delays by more than 10 seconds, my access to internet website consumes more than 30 seconds, program opening takes almost 1 minute. I feel disappointed, frustrated and mad with the quality of ideapad. I was a fan of thinkpad and this wiped off and torn down my believe of lenovo brand.

Hi -- I've looked through BIOS and don't see the option to manage or change my keyboard configuration to swap these two buttons. Is there any other way to swap the keys with this machine?

Hello lenovo community.

I just got my new Lenovo Ideapad 710s-13sk yesterday.

I've used it for 2 days now, and it seems that the 2 finger scroll up and down triggers the 3 finger function from time to time?

So when i want to scroll, sometimes the task view shows up or everything minimizes depending on what direction i scroll of course.

Have anybody else experienced this and found a solution for it?

Best Regards,
Christian

Hello there!I'm planing to buy a new notebook, and found the 710s-13ISK (80SW003NGE) interesting. There are 5 different configurations of it, with different CPUs and memory amount. The cheapest one is the only one i could afford, and it has the weakest CPU i3-6100U, which is no issue at all, but this one has only 4GB of DDR3L. I'd still like to buy this one, but only if I'm able to upgrade the memory some day to 8GB, in case the 4GB are not enough for my usage scenarios. Unfortunately i cannot find any specific information, whether the mainboard has a RAM slot (so the 4GB could be replaced by bigger 8GB), or the memory is soldered directly on the mainboard (means not replaceable). Does anyone have this particular notebook, and could give me some information about this one? Many, many thanks in advance!

I live in Toronto, Canada. I bought Lenovo Ideapad 710S (i5-6200 128GB SSD 8GB Ram) in August 2016. Used only 2 weeks, the laptop couldn't recognized the hard drive. It was sent to MIAD (local Lenovo certified repair center) and diagnosed as hard drive dysfunction. The technician told me since it is a "consumer" laptop (vs. business laptop such as ThinkPad), they don't have the part to repair/replace. I waited 4 weeks until the new hard drive arrive and the laptop was still not working. MIAD told me it was not hard drive problem and beyond their ability to repair. The laptop was later sent to Lenovo repair center (US).A week later I got a notice from Lenovo said the laptop had arrived but the part they need is in back order.5 weeks later still no sign of getting the problem fixed. Contacted Lenovo and get the same answer. Only compensate so far is extension of my warranty for 2 months. However, no compensation about the usability. For about 10 weeks, I have to use my old Pentium M Thinkpad. If I bought a new laptop, it might already arrived! Conclusion: Don't buy Lenovo "consumer" laptop (Ideapad, Yoga etc), at least in Canada.

Hi  I am thinking of purchasing a 13" Lenovo ideapad 710s ($1199 model) over a MacBook air. I have been using a macbook air for several years and recently thought of getting a new laptop. Lenovo's 710s seems to be quite good on paper (except the battery life), but I couldnt find any reviews online which can tell me if the laptop is as good as Lenovo projects it to be. If anyone has bought/used Lenovo 710s, can  you guys chime in and let me know if this laptop came on par with your expectations (esp. the battery life)? Thanks

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad 710s question

hi. Here I leave you computer manual so you can compare, the battery is a consumable device that usually lasts depending on the use that will give the team being new can last an average of 3 hours, you should know that each load you do it is that you take away useful life. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Z-Base-de-conocimientos/Optimizando-el-tiempo-de-duraci%C3%B3n-de-la-ba... Manual service:https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_710S-13ISK_hmm_201603.pdf Regards.

Hi,  My Ideapad 710s which is only like 8 months old is currently with Lenovo for a warranty repair.  The comma key became loose and fell off the keyboard, the little clips on the back were broken so I was wasn't able to clip it back on.  I sent it to Lenovo under my 3 year warranty and now they are refusing to fix it under the warranty.  What can I do about this?  Why would anyone break their comma key on purpose? The rest of the laptop is in perfect condition so it is clear that I have not abused the laptop, every other key is absolutely fine.  Seeing that it was simply a matter of clipping a new key on, I asked Lenovo to just post me one out and I would do it myself. They refused, and made me send it in. I did this, and now they are going to try and charge me for the postage which I didn't want to pay for anyway because the repair was so minor!!!  This will be the last Lenovo product I ever buy if they are so petty and treat their customers so badly over such a small repair that any reasonable person can see is a manufacturing fault.  I am furious about this, and hopefully you guys can give some advice.  Thanks

Hi My 710s' fan has started making more noise lately. I've checked, and there's nothing caught in the fan. The temps are also fine. I think it's just running on dry bearings, which causes it to make more noise. Is there any way to oil the fan?
