Program fails to create program group after install failure

Question: Program fails to create program group after install failure

Have had Vista since it came out and nary a problem. Hard drive crashed
so installed a new one and put Vista, sp1 and many other programs back on. the last one to be installed was Quickload- a bullet reloading program.
It started to install and about 25% through it quit.
So I start the install again and now it starts to install and comes up with an error ( Unable to create program group ). then it unloads its self from the drive. Have checked the Registery and all folders for left over files,
but there are none.

Put Vista+SP1 on another hard drive and did the install and it went perfectly. The other drive had SP1 also

Why cant it do the program groups thing?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just installed Window 7 professional in place of Windows 7 Ultimate RC to which I subscribed. I was not pleased to do a clean install as opposed to an upgrade and was not informed about it.

When I reinstalled Office 2007, my outlook does not work, although exchange on the web works. I get the following error message:

There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default programs control panel

Louis,This issue may occur if the Outlook registry key is corrupted. When other programs try to use the Outlook Simple MAPI interface, they cannot retrieve the required information from the registry. You must first remove the corrupted Outlook registry key, and then perform a Detect and Repair operation to have Outlook rebuild the key. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook
Select the subkey, and then press DELETE.
Click Yes.
Quit Registry Editor.
Start Outlook.
On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the repair.

Important: Above section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hello,I have an issue to install program "DisplayKEY Cradle USB Software 32-bit" which I'm using for my Real Estate work. I used it for many years on my Windows 2000 PC and recently reinstalled OS. After that I tried to install it again but for some reason failed it. I went back and force and eventually tried to clean registry and remove all key/values which had 'Cradle' keyword. Apparently I messed with a registry :).After I reboot my PC I've got an issues: When I try to start install program "DisplayKEY Cradle USB Software 32-bit" almost at the very beginning I have an error message "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personal". This blocks me.Could someone help me with it?Thanks, susja

Answer:Failure to install a program ...

Is your Win2000 working OK other than the above program? If so, I suggest you perform the following. First, remove that program from Control panel> add/remove programs. Then:Download Ccleaner Slim from the link below. Install it and run both the cleaner and the registry module. You may wish to save any passwords to internet sites before running the cleaner module as you may need to log in again. The cleaner module should remove any orphan registry entries thereby allowing you to re-install that program.See the second link below for additional information on that program.http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/bu...http://www.google.com/search?q=Disp...

I have an Advent (PC World brand) Laptop that comes with its own custom On-Screen Display software.

The software is made for 32 bit Windows with no 64 bit version available as far as I'm aware.

I have upgraded to 64 bit Windows recently and everything seems to work great except the OSD.

When installing. I'm given a choice of where I want to install the program in which I choose

C:\Program Files

after installation a mandatory restart is required and after the reboot OSD always ends up in
the other Program Files folder and I receive a error when trying to launch the OSD

I assume this error is because it gets confused being in the wrong directory (although I could be wrong and its simply just not compatible with 64bit Windows)

Anyone have a way to force it to install in the standard Program Files folder?

its the only way to tell if things like caps lock are enabled or not, so its pretty frustrating without it.

Answer:Program refusing to install in standard program files folder

In 64-bit Windows, the folder Program Files (x86) is for 32-bit applications. Try installing your OSD application there instead of the Program Files folder which is meant for 64-bit applications.

I'm trying to instal Skype on my PC and I keep getting this error message: 'An error occured while attempting to create the directory: c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu.

This is what I've done to try and remedy it:

1. Right clicked the installer file and tried to run as Administrator. Didn't work.
2. Changed security permissions on the folder ProgramData and give full control to me. Didn't work.

The folder is 50% transparent and something's not right with it but I can't figure out why.

Hello to all,
Hoping someone can assist. I have been using a program called Raw Therapee. I downloaded a new version and on installing it quit saying the old version must be removed. I could not find it listed in Revo Unistaller Pro, so I did a forced uninstall with the location of the main executable. This removed a lot of stuff. I checked the program folder and the folder and many files were still there, so I deleted them. I did a CCleaner in between and after. I then unhide and show system files and deleted the folders in the Appdata of main user and admin account, couldn't find it anywhere else.
CCleaner again and reboot. Went to install the new version again and it claimed that the old version was still installed. I did a search for *aw The* and found an entry in the hidden Program Data Folder. In the Admin account it will not let me in this folder to delete any remnants of the old version of Raw Therapee. Is there some way of fixing this??? Thanks for any assistance!
Glenn

Answer:Unable to remove old program and thus can not install new program Help

If you right click on it, in the drop down menu, is there a choice to "run as Administrator"? If so, click on that, then delete the item.

I then downloaded utorrent, does not open, gives me the same error, no harm done. Now the issue is when I want to uninstall the program, it gives me a similar error and wont let me uninstall it. The error: You do not have sufficient access to uninstall uTorrent. Please contact your system administrator. I am the only user on this computer and it is not connected to a LAN network. Answer:Program blocked by group policy

Would like a little more information on your situation. Is this your personal computer?
Silly question but must ask: Are you on an account with administrative rights?

Group policy can be caused by a few things but first get back at us with a little more information and we will get the ball rolling.

If you are an admin first try looking into the gpedit.msc in admin mode:

-Go to run-->type CMD-->type gpedit.msc in the black window that appears.
-Click into "window settings" then "Software restrictions and policies"
-Under your profile change it to basic as default.

Get back to us.

Hi.

When I try to open some files, I get a warning message that "This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator."

It should be mentioned that I'm using a PC that is connected to a University network. However, I am the Administrator of the computer.

Could anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:This program is blocked by group policy.

Group policy is set by the network administrator in charge of the domain, not the machine administrator.

For various security reasons executable data can be prevented from running from specific locations. This prevents malware from executing and malicious script from replicating.

For example, on my network we have very strict policies which prevents any executable data from running except in Windows or Program Files directories. It is probably a variation of this that you are experiencing.

Hi

I cannot open Avira Anti Virus or Malware Bytes Anti Malware, I get an error saying "This program is blocked by group policy" in normal mode.

I have tried numerous things, such as running Malware bytes in safe mode, which found nothing, and ran Spybot search and destroy again, this also found nothing too.

I honestly don't know what to do next, at the end of my tether.

I download a program call beyond compare from CNET 2 days ago and my system has not been the same since. I believe I have removed all the infections using Malwarebytes(in safe mode) Hijackthis, cccleaner, rkill, spybot, etc. I have googled and tried everything I could find but here is the current state of my machine. If I try and run MalwareBytes I get an error staying that "This Program is Blocked by Group Policy" I then check the event viewer and see this "
Access to C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe has been restricted by your Administrator by location with policy rule {3036cfcf-7c01-4800-a2ca-e6a7873107d2} placed on path C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

I have googled and looked and I cannot find anywhere on my system where I have a group policy. I know for a fact I did not add one. I also get the same error when I try and start the avira control panel. If I go rename the C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware1 and run the exe it runs fine and does not find or detect anything. It also works in safe mode. I also found online a command option to reset all your group policys back to default and I still get the error. I am not a member of a domain. Whatever virus or spyware that was on my system found I was running Malwarebytes and Avira and added a rule somehwere that I cannot remove. I have also tried the Avira rescue disk as well... Welcome to the Malware Removal Forum.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Various applications show this message when opened "This program is blocked by group policy, for more information, contact your system administrator."
It's a school laptop which was once part of a domain, not anymore, i am local admim.
The only solution which works is opening the application in Hex editor and changing the size of the file.
I would like a permanent solution so i don't have to do this for every application which receives the message.

Things i have tried.

(In regedit)
Deleting "Paths" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\safer\codeidentifiers\0\Paths. I do not have the "safer" folder inside Windows.

Running the application as admin.

(In Local Security Policy Security options)
User account blablabla prompt for standard users Securty setting = prompt for creditals.

some other stuff also which i don't remember.

After many years of using AOL, I recently installed cable and got rid of AOL (hurray!!), so I'm now using OE 5 as my e-mail client. Problem is, I had a lot of e-mail groups in AOL that I'd like to bring over into OE's address book. I know I can't import them (which is puzzling given the fact that Gates hates AOL; I would think he'd want to make it easy to switch to OE), but is there some way I can copy all the e-mail addresses in an AOL group and paste them into an OE group?

One of the nicer things about AOL's groups is that you could do just that. You could (e.g.) create the groups in Word, then copy and paste the entire group into the address book. OE appears only to accept group entries only one by one.

Any ideas?

Was this computer ever joined to a corporate network, or bought used in which it may have been owned by a business in the past, and hasn't been rebuilt clean install of OS since? To me it seems as though it inherrited a group policy that even when offline is active. This is common with computers that were joined to a network with group policies that are no longer connected to that network.

I am hoping you may help me. I have major problems. A few months back my computer was running ridiculously slow. After some investigation, it looked like I was hit by malware. Trying to make this long story short...I built this system and took it to a computer store for a checkout once it was completed. I bought from them their antivirus Symantec Endpoint Protection, which they loaded on my system. I have no disks to reinstall it. Its been on my system since then (about 2 years). I've updated it regularly and pretty much runs a daily scan. I downloaded a Windows patch last week which may have corrupted Symantic since it would not allow me to open it to update the definitions or run a scan.

As a result of the slow computer a few months back I downloaded Malwarebytes and Spybot. I ran Symantic, Malwarebytes, and Spybot daily (over last couple weeks) previous to that a couple times a week. I also set Symant... Read more

Since I followed this guide from bleepingcomputer.com to setup software restriction policies at my organization. I'm having a difficult time installing software that auto self extracts before installing. The apps get blocked during the auto self extract process before the install. I believe the applications are attempting to auto self extract to %AppData% or %LocalAppData% path, but I'm not sure. A couple of examples are Firefox and 7-Zip. Some simple applications I can extract the exe with 7-zip and provide users a directory to run the app (problem solved), but extracting apps like firefox only provides a file that downloads firefox and then I assume tries to self extract before installing which gets blocked by group policy restrictions again.

I notice there is a section titled "How to allow specific applications to run when using Software Restriction Policies", but I'm not sure if this applies since these self extract before install files are only temporary files.

Error: This program is blocked by group policy

Answer:This program is blocked by group policy

I looked in event viewer for ID 866 and got this result with Firefox.
Access to C:\Users\andy\AppData\Local\Temp\7zSF6DC.tmp\setup-stub.exe has been restricted by your Administrator by location with policy rule {7563742f-b129-4686-b4b1-d158a20c2bfa} placed on path C:\Users\andy\AppData\Local\Temp\7z*\*.exe.

I created unrestricted local security policies for (Security Settings\Software Restriction Policies\Additional Rules\)
C:\Users\andy\AppData\Local\Temp\7zSF6DC.tmp\setup-stub.exe
and
C:\Users\andy\AppData\Local\Temp\7z*\*.exe

I still get the same results after this change. Error: This program is blocked by group policy

Hi,

We think we had a virus on our computer recently which resulted in us being unable to run MS Essentials. We get the message "This program is blocked by group policy" when we try. My partner got around this by running it in safe mode and we believe we have removed the virus but we are still getting the above message when we try and run MS Essentials.

Hello,

I have recently started experiencing this issue on my Windows 7 x64 HP notebook. I first experienced this with winrar. Whenever I try extracting from a rar, it gives me this error: This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator. I then moved to 7zip and it works fine. I have tried using Revo Uninstaller with no results. I also installed (and uninstalled) add gpedit. From: http://drudger.deviantart.com/art/Add-GPEDIT-msc-215792914.
I cant even find the program files for utorrent for me to delete. Please help!

I deleted the settings from %appdata%\utorrent
The second time I tried opening uTorrent my computer froze on me, no ctrl alt del results, no mouse, nothing had to force shut down frmo the power button.

Ive done like 5 google searches and cant find anything. So explain a little more im looking for a program that has like check boxes and you can lock say updates and control panel. Kind of like an it team would use. Any suggestions? Thanks

Answer:Program to easily edit group policys

Hello Sargeant Tedi, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not sure about the program, but the tutorials below will allow you to use a REG file to easily enable or disable access to those items.

Windows Update - Enable or Disable Access

Control Panel - Enable or Disable - Vista Forums

As for other group policies, you could just use the Local Group Policy Editor for this as well. The link below will help make it easy to search for a group policy or for it's registry key, value, and etc.

Group Policy Search

Hope this helps some,

Running Dell Machine Inspiron 530S with Vista Home Premium 32bit

I have tried this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/531202/this-program-is-blocked-by-group-policy/

From what I've read, the fix is to delete the 0\paths located at the end of the following registry entry:

HKey Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\safer\coidentifiers\0\paths

It doesn't work for me because I don't have 0/paths at the end of this registry entry.

What I have are these 2 entries after coindeitifiers:

NAME                                 TYPE                       DATA

Default                               REG_SZ                  (value not set)
authenticodeenabled         REG_DWORD         0x00000000 (0)

I want to get rid of this annoying problem.  Why does this happen if I don't have 0\paths  in said registry entry?

Hi there,

I'm currently using Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit edition, Today when I came home I was using my computer for about 30 minutes and I encountered a forced restart to which Avira Antivirus alerted me I had a registry modification blocked which it didn't really seem to block at all but hey, I'll be swapping out Avira to something else when I can. Now I cannot run Avira or Malware Bytes, My internet feels slower and affected, Lots of things are restricted on my computer from being run and I also cannot follow alot of download links as they come up as 404'ed when obviously they are not.

I have downloaded all the things I could that are regularly used just to save time such as JRT / ADW Cleaner / Roguekiller / Microsoft Safety Scanner which I'm running at the moment and I have a Kaspersky Rootkit tool aswell.

This could not of happened at a worse time. I 'll make sure to follow the thread so I can pay attention to replies, I run on UK time so I'll be sleeping sometime soon but will keep my eyes peeled for replies as viruses are not only debilitating to my everyday usage it frustrates the hell out of me =(

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for the help.

Just got "clean, tested, working" laptop so the first thing I did was go on CNET to download AVG Free 2015.  Was also going to download Spybot but decided on Windows Defender.  Downloaded 2 more programs from there.  Then got Juno dial-up for my sister (I got the laptop for her).  I did notice some things but I thought it was me because I am not used to working with laptops (thumbs hit  mousescreen).  Computer really started slowing down.  Tried to open AVG and got the "program blocked by group policy.....see administrator" message.  Also, it was not on my Tray.  Ran Malwarebytes and found 6 different Trojans in 17 files and 3 registries, but still can't open AVG.  When shutting down, hundreds of Windows Updates try to install but even after all night still not done so I would have to shut down manually.  When in safe mode some part of AVG can run.  Processes show that it is running, but I can't open it.  Also cannot uninstall because I get the message that I don't have access.  I found out that there was no restore point, but I think I got it on now.  I ran SuperAntiSpyware and found 118 tracking cookies & removed.  Also ran your RKill and it shows no problems.  Nothing I run shows any problems now, but I still have to correct the problem w... Hi there!

I am new here and I am having problems sending my mail from my Group Mail program.

I have Roadrunner as my ISP and they have been recently blocking me from sending e-mails because they say I am spamming....I am not! I belong to many Yahoo Groups and I send mail to all my groups.

A friend of mine told me that there was a way around my ISP by typing in localhost as my local smtp mail server. So I did change that in my Group Mail program and it worked to send 2 e-mails.

Now I am getting this error:

Testing Email Settings
SMTP: 08/08/07 08:59:17 Opening Socket.
SMTP: Connecting to: localhost
SMTP: Error Connecting to [ localhost ]. # 10061

Error: There was an error connecting to the SMTP mail server. Please make sure that you have specified the correct settings in Email Setup and that you are online. - (9)

Should I change the port setting as well...it is currently using Port 25?

I have changed many settings and still nothing, so I found this this forum and thought someone else might be having this problem.

What I want to be able to do is send as many e-mails as I want without being blocked by my ISP.

Thank you for your help.

Kim

I have never set any group policies. In fact, I don't even know what they are. But occasionally, when I try to install certain programs, even running as administrator, I get the evil dialog box as seen in the attachment...

What does this mean? Why is it here? How do I stop these messages?

And the program I am trying to install is Picasa...certainly a safe installation from Google.

Answer:Why am I prevented from installing a program by group policy?

Hello nkoss,

Since you didn't set any group policies, you could use the tutorial below to reset all group policies back to default settings to hopefully undo this for you.

Hi, please help me!

Several days ago my computer started running slow and my husband was being redirected when he tried to log into BofA so he called the bank and they suggested we run our anti virus software.  I have both McAfee and Malwarebytes installed on my computer.  I was not able to open either, a window came up reading "this program blocked by group policy, contact your system administrator".  At this point I hit the forums and tried to problem solve myself.  I was able to open Malwarebytes in Safe Mode and it came up with two Trojan horses and several other bad things.  I first quarantined then deleted the files.  Below is my log from Malwarebytes:

We have a terminal emulation program called E-term 32 that only works properly if the user is a member of the administrator's group, which is something we don't want obviously. The message we get is this..

Warning: The file default.cnf is not a writable file. Information will not be saved to this file.

Then we get the exact same message four more times except "default.cnf" is replaced with default.dsk, toolbar.ini, mouse.ini, keymap.ini.

Than after that we get...

Failed to update the system registry. Please try using Regedit.

I was thinking you could us the "run as" feature so that it would automatically run as the admin everytime, but it appears the run as feature is used as a one time thing and you can't set it up permanently.

Any ideas how we can get this program to run without the user being part of admin group?

we have a similar program and we can't find a way around it. Maybe you could edit the security on each file it complains about, naming domain users as having FULL control over the file?

alternately, maybe power user status would be sufficient?

Hello,

Does anyone know how to exclude a user from accessing anything on
a local computer , but still be able to use a shared program from that
machine? IE. not be able to see the computer or folder through
my network places or through computer management "shares" folder
or be able to change any settings on the aformentioned machine?
Basically, I want to share a program but not have that user have the
ability to change anything on this "server". It is a peer to peer setup
with XP pro running on all machines. I have tried everything from
sharing and security - but it is my understanding that a Group Policy /
Local Policy should be setup for this machine which would prevent access?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

graham neil

Answer:Local Group Policy - program excusions for users

How are they going to access it if you take away all the permissions from accessing? I see your quandary. Not sure how you are going to give them permissions to use something that you don't want them to use.

You can deny them local login access to the machine but if they need access to something over the network they have to see it to be able to use it.

We have many users that after login they have this error

The users are standards
All the machine are in a Domain
All machine Windows 7 64bit Enterprise
The error is present in every machine the user logon, so is not related on one local machine

Note that If the user is administrator the issue is not present

My question is:

How can I know what is calling wusa.exe after login?

I know that is related to some standalone update maybe pushed by SCCM, but needs to have all the details to understand and solve

Thanks to all!

Hi all,

Have got my mother in laws laptop, and none of her AV programmes appear to be running - neither do alot of her usual start-up programs. If I try and manually launch her AV program (McAffee), I get a message "This program is blocked by group policy. For more information contact your system administrator." for file mcagent.exe

I can't edit group policy, because this is Windows Vista Home, which doesn't have any Policy editors, so I can only assume that some malware made the change in the first place directly to the registry.

So I can't even run a scan - I don't seem to be able to turn Windows Defender on either. I don't know how long it's been like this, so I'm suspecting there are probably all sorts of malware on there. Would really appreciate any help you can give me.

This error happens only with some software, I can reproduce it with Total Commander.
The issue also
reported on Total Commander forum, with following reply from Total Commander author based on error minidump:

Unfortunately the bug seems to be in the help viewer itself, not TC - there is no indication of TC in the stack trace from the mini dump.
Other users were able to confirm an error also on Windows 8.1 and
Windows 10 (see the topic on the Total Commander forum), but since I can't check it myself I'm posting it to Vista support forums.
To reproduce:

0. In Windows Start menu options, Taskbar tab, enable "Group similar taskbar buttons" setting,  open some programs with windows so they already will take enough place on taskbar.
 1. Install and Total Commander 8.52a (currently it's latest version).

I blocked a application that gives at random times pop up ads for avira.

The free antivirus program.

Now its gone. YES! good but each time I start up my pc I get the error message above.

I know I did that and I'm fine with it. What I would like however is for it to stop telling me the above error and keep the avira notify blocked.

Answer:This program is blocked by a group policy, help me remove this message

Hello Max,

You will always see that message whenever anyone or anything opens the blocked program.

Since this is happening at startup, check your startup programs for this file, and either disable or delete it from running at startup. This should stop the message.

Hope this helps,

I'm having some major problems with my computer. It started yesterday when I got the DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has failed window hundreds of times. I managed to stop that by deleting it from regedit which I did back-up. All the other problems I've been having are still here though. When I start windows, before the login screen, I get an error message from spoolsv.exe. After I login, I get my desktop backround and mouse pointer but nothing else. I run task manager and am able to run explorer from there. Everything starts up but many progams fail, most of which I have no idea what they are. After visiting many sites regarding the DrWatson problem, I downloaded many anti-virus programs such as Spy Sweeper and Spybot but they fail when I go to run them. I've tried free online scans but they stop in the middle of scanning. No problems with my browser, the scans just stop. I would love to simply re-install windows but my CD drive won't open, not even when I use the pinhole. System Restore fails when I run it, HiJack fails, everything fails except for AIM and my browser. Is there anything I can do?

I have a small office network with a mix of PC's running either Windows XP or Windows Vista Premium. The main printer/scanner/fax machine is located in a small room by itself and all the PC's have access to it.

For the most part all works fine and the PC's all communicate with each other. The only aggrevation is that occassionly when printing to the shared printer, a Vista PC will pop up an error message that says "To use the shared printer \ \Scanning\Sharp AR-M207, you need to install the printer driver on your computer and then restart the print job." Along with action boxes INSTALL DRIVER and CANCEL. Normally I click on INSTALL DRIVER, enter the Admin password, and all prints well for a little while. This happens on all of the Vista PC's whether they are set up for one user or two users. (On the two user PC's, Admin is one of the users.)

Starting just recently, one of the two user Vista PC's started a new quirck. When I clicked on INSTALL DRIVER, I get the error message, "This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator. etc."

I tried a re-boot. No success. I checked the PC and printer settings and all indicates that each is set up for public acccess across the network. I did a search on the net about group policy settings in Vista, only to learn that one requires a professional version of Vista to change these (at least easily). I then tried to uninstall and then reinstall the printer drivers. This... Read more

It is a video player made by the same company to view locally the downloaded video files from my security DVR( .dav format). ive downloaded the exe directly form their website, it also auto downloads if i allow it and dont already have it installed( the .exe) when i download a video file to my PC. this happens using and administrator level windows account(and/or if i right click and "run as administrator) and it happens whether i use the file i directly downloaded form their site or through the software.
i spoke to their tech support and they have no idea. Ive googled a couple times but i am leary of deleting entire registry folders. Can someone explain more clearly why this is happening, and how to resolve it without compromising anything else in the system?

I installed Sky By Broadband but when I try to run the program, after an interval of about 30 seconds, an error message is displayed saying "An unexpecged error occurred. Please report this error to Customer Services.......quoting the error code shown, and the circumstance in which it occurred." In fact no error code is displayed.I've been through the whole Sky fault reporting procedure by email, over a period of several weeks. I finally received a phone call from an "advisor", who said I had a fault with Windows, and I should take this up with Microsoft!Does anyone have any ideas? I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

There is only a brief mention in the T's and C's about the install of Kontiki P2P software, and the implication I got from Sky was that the movie would be downloaded directly from them, rather than across a P2P network.click here

What program could i use to create something like this???

all help much appreciated

Answer:Which program could i use to create this......

Any graphics program that lets you work easily with multiple layers because you'll want to have all the objects in seperate layers to allow for easy arrangement until you get them all just right with drop shadows and the like.

The Gimp is free, Photoshop CS and Elements should do well, Paint Shop Pro, etc.

Hi, I've searched the forum but I can't find anything that addresses this specific issue.

For a long time I've had Windows Explorer and Firefox as the only two programmes pinned to the Taskbar. My Taskbar buttons are set to "Always combine, hide labels". When I open multiple instances of Windows Explorer, the open windows are grouped in one Taskbar button with the shortcut, as demonstrated in this screenshot with three open windows:
Firefox used to display the same behaviour, but recently, I accidentally unpinned it from the Taskbar. Now that I have re-pinned it, the open instances of Firefox (version 12.0) still group together in one Taskbar button, but no longer group with the Firefox shortcut Taskbar button, as shown:
I would like to restore the Taskbar to how it previously worked - where open Firefox windows would group with the pinned shortcut, not in a separate Taskbar button. Does anyone know how to go about this?

Thanks in advance, I hope I've supplied all the necessary details.
Kuy

Answer:Open Firefox windows no longer group with program shortcut on Taskbar

Try this after you open up Firefox the new instance of Firefox on the taskbar right-click on it and pin it to the taskbar then right click and unpin the old Firefox shortcut.

I have an .exe program that has become corrupted / broken.
How the heck do I repair it. ?

So far, I have tried...

System Restore to an earlier date

Malwarebytes scan (full, clean)

Registry Repair (Regsofts)

an EXE Repair file (I can attach that file if require)

Check Disc and Repair

uninstalled and reinstalled the program

And an install via running the installer and hitting repair ......and nothing has worked !

It happened after I had two power failures.
The first allowed me to run the program via the "compatibility wizard" (but not save in this mode to run again)

The second power failure was when I was trying to sort out my uninteruptable power supply....and I got hit again !
Now the .exe program wont work at all (normally or via the "compatability wizard")

Also note....

I have removed the program by USB and installed it on a NetBook (Win 7) and an old laptop (XP)....and the program executed perfectly on both of those machines.

Can anyone help ?

Answer:.exe program fails to run. Fixes attempted below.

Uninstall your program with revo.It will remove all files and registry items associated with the your program.Reboot and then re install your program.

I constantly do data backups from drive B to drive A. It is very common for drive B to have problems and I get errors like, file name is too long or file is corrupt etc. I want to ignore these errors and continue with the copy. When I am copying a directory and an error comes up, windows stops the copy until i click OK, then the copy stops and I have to start it over. I need a program or something that will do the copy and report the errors later.

I know this can be done with command prompt, however I dont remember how and I can't find how via google. The command prompt way was excellent, something along the lines of

copy "d:\data\" "c:\backup" (insert parameters) and it would just copy ignoring errors

I have installed an older 32 bit program (TurboCAD version 7) on my Vista Home Premium x64 computer. I had to use Compatibility Mode (with XP SP2) to get it to install and run. It now runs fine but there is one minor issue that I would like to eliminate if possible. When I close the program, a message is displayed saying:

TurboCAD for Windows has stopped working.

Two options are then presented:
1. Check online for a solution and close the program.
2. Close the program.

There is also a list of problem details presented with a lot of data that I don't understand, but at the top of the list is this - Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

What I normally do is just select "Close the Program" and it then ends without any further problems. I have tried selecting the check online for a solution option, but it didn't seem to help any. Is there a way to do away with this closure failure box so that TurboCAD will just close without any interaction from me?

Hi, I currently am running Microsoft 2000 at work. I am familiar with Excel, but have been asked to create a program that is past my experience.
I have been asked to track permits per company. Each company is allowed to have 6 permits a year. Example: If the first permit was issued 1/2/07 and had an end date of 1/2/08 and the sixth permit was issued 6/1/07, the company would not be allowed to have another permit until the first permit issued had reached a full year. I have auditors that need to track this information in an easy format as some are not that experienced in Excel.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

Trying to find a decent program to create a DVD from rips / downloads of movies such as MP4 / MKV etc is a pain --there's the PAID for version CONVERTXTODVD but a good one is the FREE Linux program DEVEDE (works on .RPM distros (Opensuse, fedora etc) and there's also a version for DEBIAN/LINUX MINT and UBUNTU. The created DVD will play DVD's in stand alone DVD players.

Read the documentation as it's a little bit confusing -- also ensure you have the FFMPEG package installed and either MKISOFS or the CDR-TOOLS (or any other package that contains the mkisofs library). Ignore any missing dependencies when installing using your package manager - it's usually looking for mkisofs which is often incorporated into other libraries --it works OK.

Program will add subtitles too if you want it and you can adjust the disk usage (quality will adjust to the amount of DVD space you use.

Works either on a Linux HOST or a Virtual machine - I'm testing mine on a "Portable Linux" booted up on a USB3 thumb drive.

Here's how to use the program -- the link refers to UBUNTU but the program is the same on other distros too.

HOWTO: use DeVeDe on Ubuntu

Answer:Free DVD create program for AVI / MP4 / MKV etc

After doing conversions to and from DVD for several years I bought a Set Top Box. The particular one I bought was WD HDTV for USB. It was the first edition, not the "Live" box. I found that I spent much less time doing video conversions. And those were mostly remux with only audio processing as in the case of MP4 output from MKV input. The rare attribute of this player is that it would play HD AVI files.

Using my Philips Upconverting DVD player I was put in the ludicrous position of having to downsize AVI videos to NTSC or PAL
just to have the player upconvert them. The DVD player would not play AVI at higher resolution than standard PAL.

With the set top box I side stepped all that. The drawback being that the video files must be stored for all practical purposes on
disk drives rather than as discs. MP4 can deliver high quality HD at a low bit rate. Often a 2 hour movie can look great at 2 GB.
It's a shame to double the size only to diminish the resolution and quality.

Understandably you may want to share with people who can only handle standard DVD. But I think it's a mistake to hobble your
own library just to reach least common denominator.

A very good Windows freeware to produce MP4 from MKV as mentioned earlier is MkvToMp4

Edit: These factors make MkvToMp4 an excellent choice for Windows:
Multithreaded and designed for batch processing;
if you have a stack of MKV to process and a multicore machine this will go right through them.

Portable;

Correct me if i'm mistaken but isn't this what you're trying to do? I use the second setting anyway to do what I think you're trying to do.

"automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode"

I am trying to use VirutalBox... I have easily been able to create Virutal PCs with windows xp, but when I tried to install Debian, and then Ubuntu, both failed. I picked "Linux 2.6" from the drop down menu when creating each Virtual PC, was that the wrong choice? What happens is, each time I create a virtual hard drive (.vdi) just like I did for the WinXP VPCs, and I make it 10gb. Everything goes fine until I get to the partition stage of the install, at which point I used the "guided" partitioning in both cases. When it tries to write these changes, however, it says that it cannot make the swap partition. I got the same error in Debian and Ubuntu. Any ideas??

thanks!

Answer:Help with VirtualBox... when trying to install linux, fails to create swap partition

Odd??

I also use virtualbox and I have images for:
Ubuntu (latest)
Debian (latest)
FedoraCore (latest)
XP

and all created and installed fine.
can you provide a screenshot at that point

in order to free-up some disc space I have tried to uninstall a previous version of Autocad Architecture (2010) from my computer. When I try to use Add/Remove Programs the uninstall fails with a message 'The handle is invalid'

Is there an alternative way of uninstalling the program. I couldn't find a solution on Autodesk's website. I am running Windows XP SP3.

Answer:How do I unistall a program when Add/Remove Programs fails?

Have You used Revo Uninstaller yet Free Version -It can remove almost any program for you - After uninstall check in Windows Explorer to see if any traces remain, or use the Search function - Click on Search > at the bottom Use search Helper > Click all files and folders then just type the name of the program to see if any items remain -Thank You -

I have a VAIO VPC computer with Windows 7 operating system. I was installing the software for my Palm TX Organizer, and when it came to connecting the device to the computer, I received the message that the system was locating the drivers for the device and then informing me that no drivers were available. When I tried to sync the device through the palm program it will not recognize the presence of the device. I uninstalled and downloaded a new version of the program from the Palm website encountering the same situation when I connected the device to the computer.

I have also experienced this same situation with the installation of Tunes Plus to allow for the uploading of my iPod music onto iTunes on the computer, I continually get a device not present message.

Can anybody out there throw some light on this problem?

Answer:Program fails to recognize devices after installation

Windows doesn't need drivers to detect a Plug and Play device.

So forget about drivers for the moment....

1) You don't say how you connect the device to your compute. I'll guess USB???

2) Then start with the basics: Are you hearing the USB ding/dong sound affect as you should when connect / disconnect a USB device????

In the coming week I will be installing Windows 10 Home on my new computer. I will be using an SSD and an HDD, the SSD for the OS, programs and games and the HDD for photos, music and all the other slow stuff.
So, my question. In case the OS were to ever get corrupted, or I had to reinstall the OS for any other reason, is it possible to have the SSD set up as follows; Partition 1 - OS, Partition 2 - Program Files/Program Files((x86) plus other associated folders/files) and Partition 3 for my games, so that any re-install does not wipe out my already installed programs?

I had no problem doing this in with my XP desktop(OS in C and Progs in D, although not perfect, but was never able to do it with Windows 7.

Can it be done?

Tom.

Hi Friends,In the past years, I had to reformat and reinstall my Windows a couple of times, and as you probably know it took a couple of hours for me to reinstall my drivers, applications, etc.I once heard of products like Norton Ghost which allows you to create an image of your HD (once it's all setup), so that when time comes when you'll need to reformat and reinstall again, you simply extract that image and save yourself time of having to go through the long process of reinstalling. My question is: do you know of a computer program available for download on the internet, that allows me to create an image of my current HD? I don't like Norton Ghost by the way, because it forces me to create the image on a floppy disk (and my computer has no floppy disk). Thanks in advance.Fernan

Answer:Computer Program to Create an Image of HDD

http://www.techsupportalert.com/bes...Here's a list I found. I use Norton Ghost 14 and I can save my image however I want. The image wouldn't even fit on a floppy. You must have an old version. It's saved my ass a few times.

When you right click , Windows denies permission?. If that's the case then obviously it's security issues.

Heres what I am doing:

Built a Windows Embedded image. Put it on a device. I want to be able to create a "restore partition" somehow that you can hit a key to enter into during normal boot and restore the main Windows Embedded image to its "factory default".

Anyone?

Answer:Program to create a restore partition?

Creating a "restore" partition is relatively easy, but I don't know about Hot-keying it at boot - seems to me that would require a custom bios option. Acronis can create a protected partition for an image, but you need a boot disk....not a hot-key.

Hope someone can help here. Just purchase a lightly used X60.  The ThinkVantage help says: To create a set of Product Recovery discs, click Start --> All Programs (in Windows(R) 2000, Programs) --> ThinkVantage --> Create Recovery Media. OK easy enough to understand. The only problem is that "Create Recovery Media" is not one of the choices within the ThinkVantage choices. Does anyone know where the actual .exe file is on hard drive? Next question, only have a DVD--ROM, in the expansion dock.  Can I either create .iso images that I could move over a network to a desktop machine where I have a cd burner, or   better still share-out my cd burner over the network and just burn that way?  Or last option get a USB or firewire external cd burner? First problem, though, where is the program? Thanks!

The Microsoft operating system VLK licence conditions are such that they will only allow one set of recovery disks to be created from any factory install, and it seems that the previous owner of your X60 has already burnt that one set.

If you cannot obtain the disk set from the previous owner, you can purchase a set from Lenovo.

Cheers,

I have 2 programs for creating ISO images, Macrium Reflect and Acronis for WD. I bought a My Book 1TB external HD to back up to, but it's not much good if I can't use it to the purpose I bought it for.
I've run ExactFile checksums until I'm blue in the face. I can run them back to back and the results are never the same. It shows files I know haven't had any changes to, at least not for months. Plus it comes up with a different number of errors each time too.
I'm at my wits end trying to figure why the image won't verify. My system is falling apart, my AutoPlay doesn't work nor does my system restore.

The My Book has a feature called SmartWare, it backs up all changes made within the documents and picture files. It's does not back up programs or the system files. I've run 2 dskck and that came up with no problem. I ran a sfc/r a few weeks ago and it said there were errors that it could not fix. This is after I spent a whole day messing around doing an inplace upgrade. It took hours to download all of the additional update beyond that. I've even tried disabling the Smartware.

Can anyone tell me how to go about finding the problem? I would really appreciate it.
George

Answer:Can not get my backup program to create a verifiable ISO

hmm; your topic

create a verifiable ISOClick to expand...

doesn't match the description at all imo. I would never expect any backup to create an ISO. Acronis & Ghost do create
a disk image for recovery purposes.
hint: not all disk images must be an ISO file
