Explorer/Flash Application Error. Please Help.

Question: Explorer/Flash Application Error. Please Help.

Okay, This one is a bit hard to explain.

I have a burnt copy of Flash on disk which I wanted to install onto my computer.
Just to clear up, not Flash Player (Like to watch things) but the application (to make things) Got it?

Kay.

So, I open up the file in Windows Explorer.
The disk also contains some flash movies and stuff.. but they shouldn't be a problem.
Before I can even click anything, an error message pops up
"Windows Explorer has experienced a problem and needs to close"

Extremely annoying.

Now before you all go to the easy solution of "Its a virus"
I assure you, I am well protected with Norton 360 and my two friends have never had any problems with the disk previously.

Help would be much appreciated !!

Thankyou =]

Preferred Solution: Explorer/Flash Application Error. Please Help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Explorer/Flash Application Error. Please Help.

Hi lustmyeyes

Did you resolve your error?

I imagine you'd be fine if you move the flash installer & it's files to another disk -- likely some other file on your current disk has a file-extension that is assigned to Explorer, which can't run it and throws up the error.

Another tactic would be to disable Autorun on the CD/DVD drive temporarily.

Best of luck

Answer:Application popup: Explorer.EXE - Application Error

What did the other forums already advise you to do?If you have your windows xp cd, restart your computer and boot from the cd. After a few prompts, you'll want to choose to repair windows. There are two different repair options, one is a manual repair and the other is automatic. If you get the wrong one, start over.Back up your data before you do this, just in case something goes wrong. (probably won't go wrong)

Hey there!
I?m experiencing a BSOD everytime any kind of Flash is needed (e.g. watching Youtube videos, playing flashgames on facebook). It?s the same pattern over and over again: The Application works for about 10 minutes, then the BSOD appears. Games are not affected, Skyrim and Rage are running perfectly.

My system:
Windows 7 Professional 64bit Full Retail, installed 4 Weeks ago.
ASUS P7P55D Mainboard
Intel i5 750
Radeon HD 6950 2GB (Catalyst 11.11c)
Samsung HDD 1 TB
4 GB A.Data Ram, 1333

The BSOD:
0x00000050
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Caused by driver "dxgmms1.sys"
Caused by adress "dxgmms1.sys+1011b"
Crashadress: "ntoskrnl.exe+7cc40"
What I tried until now:
I combed the desert for solutions and advice. So I reinstalled my graphics drivers, checked my RAM with Memtest86, scanned my HDD for erros, disabled one unneeded sound driver, reinstalled flash player and plugins, updated my browser to Nightfly (64bit version of Firefox) and drank coffee...a lot of coffee But nothing except the coffee helped, no errors were found and the BSOD still is reproductable.

So what the hell can I try now? Can anyone of you help? ^^

Answer:BSOD using any flash application, error 0x00000050

Have XP with all recent updates. When going to Adobe.com, I can't load Flash Player. I keep getting the following prompt - iexplore.exe - application error... This memory could not be written See attachment for screen shot of the application error message with additional coding information.
Here is what I have tried so far without success:
When prompt appears - tried clicking cancel to de-bug...Results in computer freeze. Usually have to reboot.
Removed all past flash players versions from hard drive.
Scanned for virus and spy-ware - None found.
Tried the Repair Registry Software that claims it will solve this problem. It didn't help.
Security set to medium / custom setting to enable active X settings
Tried loading older versions of Flash Player to no success. Get the same prompt.
I'm at a loss as to what needs to be done. Can anyone provide suggestions?

Thanks,

RFW1953

Answer:Solved: Flash Player - iexplore - Application Error

When you say 'load', do you mean that you are attempting to install or upgrade the Flash plugin for IE? Assuming the Adobe site works for you, try this version tester to see what, if any, version you currently have; http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html (the latest is 10,0,32.18).

Newer versions of Flash should be uninstalled with the special Adobe uninstaller, if you didn't use it, try it now in case your problem has something to do with leftover components of old versions of Flash; http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html Note that if you have other browsers installed, the uninstaller will remove their Flash plugin as well and you will need to replace it.

If the uninstaller doesn't help, you could try following the advice in this Adobe Troubleshooter; http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html Hopefully, the Registry 'repair' tool you ran hasn't done any permanent damage. Those things rarely do any good!

Print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you might get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on start update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful'.
8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can go to http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/ to update manually.

Answer:explorer.exe - application error

Being that its happening in multiple situations, my first 2 guess would be your xp installation is flaking out somewhere, or maybe your ram needs to be re-seated or the ram itself may be flaky. Whats the specs of your machine?

XP Home, SP2. The following message is presented after booting up...

Explorer.exe - application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc00000005).
Click OK to terminate the application.

Upon clicking OK, explorer fails to open.

This occurs in Safe Mode as well. No info as to what if any changes may have started this. MS KB had only one article that seemed relevant, in which it said to edit the boot.ini, which did not make a difference.

I can however get into Task Manager and open a command prompt, with which I can use the Run command. Not sure what to do from there though. I tried sfc/scannow but that didn't help.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve,

I've seen several reference to Norton System Works causing this, and since I'm sure you don't have that gem of a program installed, have you tried booting from the CD and choosing the repair option?

My computer is a Dell Insp 531s running Windows Vista(Unfortunately).

My computer was idle for 1 hr and when I and came back all icons on the desktop were gone and it said explorer.exe application error
the instruction at 0x7637099 referenced memory at 0x7637099. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0x000000e
so I hit Ctrl Alt Del and got:
Security failure
logon process has failed to create the security option
I then pressed the start up button and the screen went black and did nothing so I shut it down and re booted and that got it working again.

I would like to no what caused this problem and hopefully find a fix. I have run Memtest86 and everything comes back clear with the RAM. There has been some freezing/not responding with my browsing sometimes. Any help would be appreciated

Hey I got a problem with my computer. Whenever I'm in windows explorer whether it's My Documents or My Computer, after 15 seconds an error message comes up that's titled explorer.exe application error and says some numbers and letters and memory. I cannot remember it all because now windows eplorer simply closes with an error message. I tryed hitting cancel to debug and that did nothing. I ran ad-aware and mcafee and neither found anything. Please help thank you.

Answer:explorer.exe application error

I got it to display the error message again

You probably can't tell what it says, so I typed it out:

The bottom box: Explorer.EXE Application error
The instructions at "0x030e3206" referenced memory at "0x030e3206". The memory could not be "written.
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

The top box: Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows
To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.

By selecting debug on the bottom box, the top box appears and then nothing happens.

Any suggestions, my computer is really acting up and I haven't done anything differently. Also, the computer has a 7.91 gig d drive that is used to create recovery cd's but I never made the disks and now sometimes a message comes up and says some components of Windows have been replaced by new components and the old ones need to be restored, please enter Windows disks. The computer didn;t come with any disks so are the ones that need to be created with the D drive the ones I need? Thank you for your help.

Are you using Windows XP? If so,

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up Task Manager. And click File, New Task (Run..) and enter regedit and click OK. This will run the registry editor. Now look for the below registry keys (navigate thru the registry). For now, just let us know if you find them.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe

Last night @ shutdown (Win7 64-bit), I got this error . . .

explorer.exe - Application Error

"The instruction at 0x063b0fd8 referenced memory at 0x063b0fd8. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the program."

I had been using Hotmail, Photoshop CS6, Explorer, 2ndCopy (backup/sync) but had closed all windows before shutting down.

What could have caused this? Is it serious? Is it likely to happen again? Is there anything I can/should do to prevent it?

Hello everyone. When I start my computer, Before I get to windows I get an error message reading "Explorer.EXE - Application Error: The application failed to initialize properly(0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application". Once I click on ok, my backround loads up, but no taskbars or Icons are present, and I am only able to run programs through the task manager. I am however able to run the computer and get all of the icons and toolbars in safe mode. I ran McAfee Virus scan, and found no virus'. I downloaded Ad-Aware SE and ran a scan and found a few bad files, and deleted them. I also downloaded and ran Spybot S&D and again found a few bad files and deleted them, but I still have the same problem. I then downloaded Hijackthis(all of my actions were instructions I got from this website in another topic) but when I would try to run it, McAfee would tell me my computer was infected, and would not allow me to open HijackThis. If I scanned HijackThis it told me it had a worm in it. But I was able to run HijackThis from safe mode and get a log, although I'm not sure if it is still relevent because I was in safe mode. well here is my log. Hi, I need help involving an application error with explorer.exe when I access the 'My Videos' folder located in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Videos. About 15 seconds after I view the folder in Explorer I get a message saying:

"explorer.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x0567c3e3" referenced memory at "0xffffffff". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program"

Also I simultaniously get the common error message:
"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
. . and asks me if I would like to send the error report or not.

Obviously, any option I choose still closes Windows Explorer which prevents me from viewing my files in the "My Videos" folder.

Can anyone help me here? any help is greatly appreciated

Hi guys,

Please, I need an urgent solution for my problem! After I log in my Win XP account (an administrator account), the following message box appears:

"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. If you were in a middle of ....".

I click "Close" button, the window appears again, I click again the "Close" btn, and this time the following message box appears:

Titlebar text : "explorer.exe - Application Error"
Text: "The instruction at "0x....." referenced memory at "0x......". The memory could not be read."

The two message boxes still appear one after another (I close one, the other is raising and so on)

These errors appear before all the startup programs are started.

I cannot use the task bar , I can instead open some programs using the "Task Manager" - New Task command.

The Local Connection still exist but my PPPoE connection was deleted and I cannot set it again because the "Connect using a dial-up modem" & "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password" options are disabled(grayed). So for any required downloads you will propose to me, I'll use a laptop (the computer which presents this errors is a desktop; you can see it's specs on my account).

I tried repairing registries, I even disabled DEP (because DEP allerted me about Windows Explorer trying to execute from an forbiden address or such). No su... Read more

Hi all.Trying to help a friend with the following problem.
The computer in question is running XP Home edition and the following error occurs at startup.

Explorer.EXE application error.

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002).Click to terminate the application. After that all that happens is screensaver is there with nothing else.

This happens after the logon box appears and I click O.K.

Just a thought.Could I reinstall XP Home Edition over the top without losing any files on their computer?

By the way I am not a computer expert, its just that I know a little more than my beginner friends.

Thanks everyone.
Darren.

Answer:Explorer.EXE Application error

First, no, a reinstall will lose all existing files and programs. If you can get as far as the logon screen something is working, so try logging in in Safe Mode. If that works, put the XP installation disc in and Click Start>Run then type sfc /scannow in the box and click OK. If you can't get into Safe Mode you may have to try a repair installation. You will lose all your updates so will have to redo those.
Boot from the Installation Disc and choose Install. Ignore the first repair option and carry on the the installation. The system should recognise your previous installation and offer you the option to repair. This is the one you should choose. If the machine has SP2 installed and the Installation doesn't have SP2 you will only get the option of a clean install. This again will lose all files so don't go further. You will need to get SP2 slipstreamed onto the Installation Disc. You will have to do this on another machine.
If you need further advice please post back. Good luck.

Hello...

I have windows xp on a compaq presario R3000 (laptop). Let me add that this is a computer my son uses.

When we boot up the computer, I get the windows screen, then I get the following error message
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application".

I then get the background screen and no access to the desktop.

I can open windows task manager and select "create new task" to get to my desktop and files; I cannot get to the control panel. I can run various programs e.g. Registry cleaner, adaware, etc...no help.

I have 5.1, service pack 2 installed. I tried to run windows update manager...won't run. I tried to download latest patches, get an error message about cryptograph...can't get into administration tools to check that (can't get into control panel).

I can go to F8 and chose safemode, and, after it scrolls through files, I get the black, safemode screen. I then get the sign in screen, then the black screen, and then I have access to my computer.

How do I fix this problem? Any thoughts?

THanks, Angie

My computer was infected with some vundo spywares and I think I've managed to clear them using VundoFix.exe (a solution found on this forum). However, after doing so, I'm always met with an explorer.exe application error 0x6606041 when window loads up. I'll also hit this error when I tried to double click a shortcut folder on my desktop. The error occurs when I try to click on a program in my Start Menu Program List. The occurrence is intermittent. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Hope you guys could provide some solution to this irritating problem of mine. Thanks bunch!

Answer:Explorer.exe Application error

have you installed anything new to your computer ?? have you done anything wrong to your computer before the problem started ??

temporarily you can start explorer.exe from task manager(press ctrl+alt+del)-> file-> new task-> explorer.exe

also goto start-> run-> sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and /)-> insert xp cd when asked

also goto safe mode (by pressing f8 during startup) and check if the problem persists

if not worked
scan your system with a trial version of good internet security like kaspersky, AVIRA, ESET etc. Do not use AVG.
and
anti-spywares like Malwarebytes
and scan your english language with good english antivirus as your english is affected with too many virus/malwares

Hello, I had installed Vista onto my computer about a couple months ago and I started to receive this message: "Explorer.exe - Application error. The instruction at 0x76c0af90 referenced memory at 0x76c0af90. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status 0xc000009d." For the people who can help,
I built my computer recently, about a month ago, and have started getting an error message Explorer.exe-Application error instruction "0x07*&%$#be" referenced memory at "0x07*&%$#be". Cant remember numbers just now, anyway the memory could not be read. Cant recall when I started getting this message but happens without fail on start up, and pretty much any other application I open (and am able to use after clicking OK and watching desktop icons disappear-reappear, tasktray icons disappear-reappear). Ive spent hours on the phone with microsoft trying lots of different fixs mentioned in these forums and am close to either doing a clean boot or trying to create a partition (partition magic) and start from there, since when I built it I never incorporated any. Ive tried turning off all the hardware since I still get the message in safe mode, no change. Ive repair installed 3 times, Ive /scannowed once, no change. Yesterday I was looking at some other site for info and found interesting stuff about leftover registry entries which I know little about. Doubtfull it could be a trojan or virus scanned for each numerous times with various programs.(housecall, symantec, stinger, TDS-3, spybotSD, adaware, hopefully all the good ones) I cant partition magic to make it to DOS mode to begin its procedure and NEED information of any kind, even if Ive already tried it.

Hello. My brother had bought his Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 laptop (windows 8) about a month ago, and today he encountered a huge problem due to an accident he caused. When he was about shutdown his laptop, he forgot that the battery was not inserted and pulled out the plug at the last second. Ever since that action, the laptop is suddenly slowing down than it was before. Icons are not appearing on the desktop, any applications opened becomes unresponsive constantly, and I even get this Application Error message that could be the result from the accident:Explorer.exe -- Aplication Error The instruction at 0x00007FFDA720577D referenced memory at 0x000000000DC80008. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of 0xc000009c. Click OK to terminate I've tried rebooting, restarting, system restore, disk repair, safe mode start-up; none of them worked. it still has plenty of time for warranty, but I want to find out all solutions before succumbing into warranty assistance and System Recovery.

Answer:Explorer.exe -- Application Error

Quick update: I realized a pattern; when I started the laptop in safe mode (networking enabled), the explorer.exe message repeatedly crashes and restarts. Judging from it, now I really know the laptop cannot run functionally without explorer.exe. I test it out by opening "explorer.exe" via Task Manager. The explorer.exe window pops up, the laptop freezes, and then the explorer.exe window closes along with the application error appears. Any solution to stop this?

Last night I started having problems with the My Documents on my computer. After having it open and navigating in it for a few minutes, it suddenly has an error and has to be closed. I thought maybe it had something to do with a program I installed, so I uninstalled it and the problem is still there even after a restart. Now, after five hours of trying to find information on the internet and ask people if they could help, the error seems to happen almost immediately.

This is the error message I'm getting.

Answer:explorer.exe - application error. Help!

Get memtest86 from www.memtest86.com (link fixed) and install it on a floppy, and run it, and let us know if you find any errors. The error that you are getting is typical of an error in RAM, however, it can be caused by MANY sources.

Does this error occur when you try to access any other drives/directories?

Also- the error can be related to a file system corruption. Since writing CD/DVDs is prone to error, you may just have a bad burn, and there's not a whole lot you can do other than rewrite the CD.

Have you checked the surface of the CD to be sure it's clean, unscratched?

Let us know about this- since it's a new PC, you may wish to consider warranty options if this problem occurs in more than just that DVD.

BTW- Welcome to Techspot!

Edit: Link fixed from domain squatter stupidity.

Answer:Explorer.exe Application Error

Hello Glenn999Have you tried using System Restore to return to a previous state before your problems began? What OS (Win XP/2000, etc) are you using? When doing a search on the net for your particular problem, you will find this is a common complaint with various causes and possible solutions. What works for one person may not work for another. Microsoft even mentions it here.In Windows XP, the default setting is for the computer to reboot automatically when a fatal error occurs. You should be able to see the error by looking in the Event Log. Read "How To Use the Event Viewer Applet".An alternative is to turn off the automatic reboot feature so you can actually see the error code/STOP Message when it happens - this is also known as the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD).To change the recovery settings and Disable Automatic Rebooting, go to Start > Run and type: sysdm.cplClick Ok or just press WINKEY + Pause/Break keys to bring up System Properties.Go to the Advanced tab and under "Startup and Recovery", click on the "Settings" button and go to "System failure".Make sure "Write an event to the system log" is checked and that "Automatically restart" is UNchecked.Click "OK" and reboot for the changes to take effect.Doing this won't cure your problem but instead of crashing and restarting you will get a blue diagnostic screen with an error code and other information that will allow you to better trace your problem. When you get that information, please post it back here.

Answer:explorer.exe application error

Well, I would have to think that updating to SP2 at least would be your only choice. Also, I think that when you try to activate it, you can call Microsoft and get things sorted out. If that does not work, I'm sure there are many sites that host SP2.

Hi, I downloaded some program called 'True Sword' that was meant to clean viruses and trojans. I didn't like the look of it, so stopped it halfway through and removed it. Once I rebooted, I now get a message "Explorer.exe application error 0xc0000005 Click ok to terminate". After that it goes to a blank desktop. I can still use alt+ctl+del to open some stuff (but not explorer), but don't know what to do from here. How can I restore the explorer.exe that stupid program removed? I tried system restore, but it won't open. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer:Explorer.exe application error

Ok, lets try a few things.

First off, did you make an Automated System Recovery (ASR) backup disk before this happened? If you did, that would be my first choice. If you don't know how to use ASR, post back here and we'll walk you through it.

Secondly, (if you can't do an ASR restore-install) boot to Safe Mode and see if Explorer is working in Safe Mode. If it is, you might be able to run System Restore from there. To get to Safe Mode, boot your system and keep pressing F8 until you get a screen that gives you the option to boot to safe mode (or safe mode with command prompt, or sfa emode with networking, etc., etc.). A detailed explanation of how to get to safe mode is here

Now, if Safe Mode bombs out and ASR is a no-go, you may be sorely out of luck. Your last resort is to wipe the hard drive and completely re-install Windows... but lets not go there just yet. Try the ASR or Safe Mode options first, if you can, and then come back here and let us know how it went.

Hi.

(Sorry if this is in the wrong category.)

Just today, I downloaded a Windows update(it said I had like 150+ things to install, so I did) Well, that's where my problem began. Once I did that, I turned my laptop on and right after I type my password in and click enter, I had an "explorer.exe" error pop up saying that the memory could not be read. The WHOLE screen is black, only my cursor was there. I couldn't see my desktop, taskbar, nothing. I could do CTRL+ALT+DEL to get into the task manager though.

I have read literally EVERYTHING I could find on the internet, and nothing has solved my problem. It's quite tricky because most of what I have read has told me to boot in safe mode, safe mode with networking, and safe mode with command prompt, all to no avail. When I try, the same error pops up there too.

I started up my computer and did F8 to get to the system repair, which also did not work. It said there was nothing wrong with it.

I tried multiple system restore points, all which did not work. I got an error for all of them saying this:

System Restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point.
Source: %SystemRoot%\Registration
Destination: ComPlusStaging

I have tried to do the SFC /SCANNOW which said that there was nothing wrong with my computer.

I'm completely out of ideas on how to fix this and I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance!

In that case, reinstall Windows from scratch. Boot from the DVD and select Custom installation. Your files will be kept in a Windows.old folder, but programs, drivers must be installed again and settings must be set again. After moving your photos, music, videos, documents from Windows.old to the respective library, delete Windows.old.

Hi all.Trying to help a friend with the following problem.
The computer in question is running XP Home edition and the following error occurs at startup.

Explorer.EXE application error.

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002).Click to terminate the application. Then the screensaver is there and notning else happens.

This happens after the logon box appears and I click O.K.

Just a thought.Could I reinstall XP Home Edition over the top without losing any files on their computer?

By the way I am not a computer expert, its just that I know a little more than my beginner friends.

Thanks everyone.
Darren.

Try Classic Media Player?

What are you using for a Video player? WMPlayer?
If so, try Classic Media Player.

Sounds like the Windows Media Player Codecs might be all messed up... Trouble shooting some sort of reinstall would be another suggestion.

If Classic Media Player works, I recommend using this as your main media player.

Good morning, I have a couple of problems and I can't figure out how to get my computer back to where it used to be. I think it has something to do with updating windows. I get messages everytime I try to open a photo or a file. One message is Explorer EXE-Application Error, The instruction of ox600470a4 referenced memory at ox600470a4. The memory could not be written. Click on ok to terminate the program, click on cancel to debug the program. I clicked on debug and the program I got a message about Dr. Watson trying to communicate with ? and I clicked ok. Then the photo closed and all the icons disappeared and the reappeared. When I opened the same photo again, I got the following message. Data Execution Prevention-Microsoft Windows to help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program and also Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, etc. Again the program shuts down. Basically, I can't open anything without the error messages. I can't copy cd's either as I have in the past with Nero. The program starts and then I get a read message or the cd just will not copy. Is there a way that I can do a restore and have my computer back to where it was 3 weeks ago? I could do that with my old computer Windows 98se. I have a HP Media M7060n now and I have XP home edition. Up to now I have had no problems. This computer is very different from my old one and I have no clue how I would do a restore. I just want a restore from 3 weeks ago,... Read more

I think I have a malware in my PC.

When I boot up Windows I got this message:

Data Execution Prevention
To help protect your computer Windows has closed this program

Name: Services and Controller.app

-----------------------------------------------------
Almost simultaneously I got the 2nd message:

Explorer. EXE - Apllication error

The instruction at "0x87a2ddb7" reference memory at "0x87a2ddb7". The memory could not be written

Click Ok to terminate. Click cancel to debug.

No matter which button I clicked. The computer shut down in 60 seconds and reboot. Then the same cycle repeated itself.

I was able to start the Windows in safe mode. I ran MacAfee scan. MacAfee found one item and quarantined it. I tried to start the window again in restoration mode. I got the same treatment.

HELP please.

Hi. First Post, really struggling with a computer issue, there are multiple facets to this so I'll try to be concise. This error is highly related to an error listed HERE. However, because the circumstances differ, I thought it appropriate to list my error. For a long time since I built my computer, i'd receive strange application error messages, but it never caused serious problems because if i terminated the program it would come back. Recently, I had to take my computer to Best Buy because it would not start, which was ultimately linked to a power issue. In addition to replacing the power supply, they also performed a system optimization, which is described on Geek Squad's Website as the following:Your computer, like your car, is a finely tuned machine that needs regular maintenance to keep it running and in good working order. Our optimization service includes over 100 system tweaks that will shorten your computer's boot time, delete unwanted files and remove unnecessary background processes. Agents will bring your system up to speed with the most recent updates to guard against security threats.Their updates included, among other things, updating my CMOS BIOS for my motherboard. As soon as I started using my computer again, the computer started using it's Automatic reboot feature to recover from a fatal error, which was not listed to me. Sometimes it would reboot seconds into the boot, sometimes into the desktop startup, and sometimes the computer would be stable for... Read more

The explorer.exe error (and it's rapid cycling) is (IMO) symptomatic of a nasty virus infection. I would suggest doing several free, online scans to rule this out:http://safety.live.comhttp://housecall.trendmicro.comA full format will fix your system - if this is a software issue. Not because it fixes everything, but it wipes everything out and starts over fresh. An option is to backup the music and documents to an external hard drive before reformatting. Since explorer.exe isn't reliable, you'd have to resort to a Live Linux CD, a BartPE CD, or the Ultimate Boot CD in order to ensure that it copies correctly.FWIW - if you copy an infected file, you copy the infection over to the new location - so it's essential to ensure that the infection isn't in one of the files that you're backing up.

Hello everyone. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. Before today, my computer ran perfectly and rarely crashed. Well today I installed a game I bought(Knights of the Old Republic if it matters) and began playing it. The game crashed on me a couple times, and my computer completely froze up when I tried to minimize the game. When I restarted the computer, my backround didn't cover the whole screen, and over the backround was a black backround with text saying something about my computer being infected, but I couldn't read it because of the icons on the desktop. Then a window of a virus scanner I had never heard of popped up telling me I had 10 infected files. I thought it was some pop up ad and closed it. My computer froze again shortly after and I restarted it again.

During the restart, I received an error message while Windows was loading(I don't choose a user, there is only 1 so it goes to that by default) saying "Explorer.EXE - Application Error: The application failed to initialize properly(0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application" so I clicked ok and it loaded up the backround of my desktop and that is it. No taskbar or icons. So I restarted my computer again, and again I got the same message, with the same result. I am able to start programs through the Task Manager, but Explorer won't start and I get the same message. I installed McAfee Virus Scan Professional(2005 version) and ran a virus scan which showed no virus'. I have ... Read more

When I tried to log into my computer as the Admin I get the following message: Explorer.exe Application error - The application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000022). Click ok to terminate the application.

I rebooted my computer and managed to log in via safe mode. I then went to Control panel >> User accounts and turned off UAC (User Account Control). I then rebooted and was able to log in as the Admin via the Normal mode.

Now when I create other user accounts and try to log into those accounts I get the above error message.

How can I resolve this problem?

I would first try going back to an old restore point. If all is well I'd error check the drive. Could be something else though.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition on a Dell Machine. I have ad aware on there now, but when I try and run it via Task Manager I get the same error message. I had Panda Anti virus on, but I deleted it about two weeks ago becuase of some conflicts with the firewall.

Anybody have any suggestions, knowing that I can only use Task Manager or a Cmd prompt??

Thanks....

I'm having a problem with memory. When I open Windows explorer, sometimes I get this message.
Explorer.EXE – Application Error

The instruction at “0x77f57e4f” referenced memory at “0x00000067”. The memory could not be “written”.

Sometimes it just happens out of the blue.

Do I need a new memory card? I have a Kingston 512mb DDRAM which is fairly new.

You may be experiencing ram errors. A common thing that can happen with ram, even ram that worked fine previously, is the ram has, or has developed, a poor connection in it's slot(s). This usually happens a long time after the ram was installed, but it can happen with new ram, or after moving the computer case from one place to another, and I've had even new modules that needed to have their contacts cleaned.See response 2 in this - try cleaning the contacts on the ram modules, and making sure the modules are properly seated:http://www.computing.net/hardware/w...For a laptop, or netbook, you must remove both its main battery and AC adapter before you do that. For a brand name computer, see the Owner's or User's manual if you need to - how to remove or replace the ram is usually in that - it may already be in your installed programs. If you can't get into Windows, it may be on a disk that came with the computer, or you can go online and look at it or download it - it's in the downloads for your specific model. ......

Answer:explorer.exe - Application Error

Hi Pawan, Welcome to Seven forums.

run a SFC/Scannow to completely scan the whole system and repair all missing, corrupted or broken system files. If some system files required by the system cannot be found properly, an application error 0Xc0000022 can also happen. The sfc /scannow command (System File Checker) thoroughly scans the integrity of all protected Windows system files and automatically replaces the incorrect, corrupted, broken, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible. To do this, just go to Start, run, type "sfc/scannow" within the box and press Enter to continue.

You can refer to this tutorial. SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Do SFC SCAN atleast 3 times.
Please boot to the recovery environment ('Repair your computer' in the boot menu) and open a Command Prompt Window there.
At the prompt type DIR C:\Windows and hit the Enter key - if it comes back 'file not found' then try DIR D:\Windows etc. until you get a listing.
Once you have that listing, type the following command

DIR <drive>:\Windows\System32 /AR /S
where <drive> is the drive letter found above

and see what the response is.

If there's more than half a dozen files listed, then you need to run the following command

ATTRIB -R <drive>:\Windows\System32\*.* /s

You will get a large number of errors - don't worry about that.
now reboot to normal windows, and see whether the problem has changed.
DO NOT run the command if there's only a few file... Read more

Hello all,

I recently encountered an issue that was originally posted here back in 2008. The problem is this error message upon system boot:

"Explorer.exe - Application error
The instruction at "0x7342611a" referenced memory at "0x7342611a". The memory could not be "read"."

Clicking the "debug" option is a waste of time, since it Dr Watson either hangs up the computer or provides useless result. Clicking "Close Program" causes Explorer to restart and everything seems mostly fine. Some random programs may result in this error and explorer reset. One persistent and notable problem is that SpywareGuard will show as running (if installed and set to run on system start) but it's taskbar icon will be missing. You cannot start it's configuration panel and the above error will re-occur.

The reason that I decided to start this new thread for what appears to be an old issue is because I discovered the cause of the occurance, on my XP system, and thought it might be helpful to anyone else that encounters the issue.

In my case, the problem started after I installed the IME for Asian languages (for the non-unicode text support for Japanese games and filenames). I resolved the problem by changing the "Region & Language Option" settings back to "English" and turning off the "Advanced Text Services". Since this last setting disables the Language Bar, an alternative would be to uni... Read more

I've personally disabled the annoying Dr. Watson on my XP computer.

To disable Dr. Watson:

Click Start > Run > type regedit

Press Enter.

Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug

In the right pane, double-click Auto.

Change the value from 1 to 0.

My operating system is Windows XP Home.

Did not install new programs/upgrades but did uninstall games that have not been used in over a year. After the uninstall, when I tried to start up, instead of the usual 4 user choices as before, I am asked my password for my desktop, when that is typed in I get Explorer.EXE-Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly
(0xc015002)Click on OK to terminate the application

When I try Safe Mode with Prompt, I am still asked for my password and when typed in, I get a gray screen with Safe Mode logo on all 4 sides but no icons. If any information is available on how I may solve this problem it will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Explorer.exe Application error

Hello gamwthmanasas and welcome to Seven Forums.

The first error code had no references when I googled it. One of the references to the second error code pertained to Java. Whenever I see unreferenced codes, the first thing I think of is malware. And since the second code might have something to do with Java, and Java has had several exploits in the past, malware is a definite possibility. If you have Java installed I would remove it. (You could always reinstall later if you absolutely need it. A lot of folks leave it uninstalled until such time they actually need it.)

How do I uninstall Java on my Windows computer ?

java.com: Java + You

I'd next suggest running a full scan with your installed anti-virus suite. No anti-malware program is 100% effective 100% of the time (if there was such a thing we'd all be using it.) So running some on-demand scanners is always a good idea. These are free and highly recommended on this Forum.

Windows Defender Offline

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

Please post back the status of your computer after running the scans.

HELP!!!! I have Windows XP and every time I boot up, I get an Explorer.EXE - Application Error that says "The Application failed to initialize properly (0-xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application"

When I click on OK, I can maneuver through task manager & don't have access to my desk top.

I've searched the forum here and found a simpler problem a while back which suggested to delete this key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplorer.exe"... but I've done a search for this key on my computer & it's no where to be found.

Before I reformat my entire hard drive & start from scratch, I wanted to know if there was a simpler way of fixing this. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

I receive this error message on occasion when I shutdown. Here is the message:"The instruction at 0x00007FFBD3FA98E5 referenced memory at 0x0000000000000250. The memory could not be read.
Click on OK to terminate the program"
This has been occurring for about 3 months now. I have tried doing a clean install many times and still haven't figured it out. Also, this occurred in Build 9926 as well as the new Build 10041. I have tried all the other guides that I found out here on the internet and nothing seemed to work. I attached an image, sorry for the poor quality.

Answer:explorer.exe - Application error

This happened to me in one of the first builds and started again in 10041. It stopped after a few reboots.

On the laptop try making a folder on the desktop and moving the files from the cd to there. After moving the pics you will need to right click on the folder and in properties make sure only archive and let it set these properties to the folder and contents ....then try opening one.
