Question: [SOLVED] Windows Fingerprint Login Has Stopped Working

I am running Windows 8.1 that is up to date with maintenance, etc. Windows fingerprint login was working fine until a few days ago when it stopped working. I have done extensive research online to no avail. I have restored my system to a point in time (3/15/2015 via a system image restore) when fingerprint login was working and still have the problem. My system is

When rebooting my machine this morning, at the login screen there was a message about a service not starting.  Since then my system immediately goes to the standard windows 7 login and the fingerprint reader is not enabled. I checked the Fingerprint software settings, and the checkbox to "Use fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into Windows" is set. The windows service "Secondary Login" was turned off.  I tried turning that on with no effect. Does anyone know how to get the fingerprint scanner working again?

Answer:Fingerprint Reader stopped working for login

quick question for you. Did you by any chance update the fingerprint software via windows update? I remember doing that once, and it totally fubarred my system. the only solution was to uninstall the drivers completely and reinstall the drivers from lenovo

I recently re-installed my Windows 7 Bit and also installed ThinkVantage Client Security Solution v8.30.0049 together with ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 5.9.5 on my T410s. I enrolled some fingerprints without a problem and checked the setting "User fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into Windows". In the Windows login screen I see an icon for fingerprint login and the green light next to my fingerprint sensor is turned-on expecting the scan. However, when I scan my finger, the green light blinks once, pauses, and then blinks a second time. Nothing else happens. I do not get logged into Windows. Any idea what the issue may be?

I saw someone else had this problem and was able to fix it by entering an incorrect password at Windows login.  Unfortunately, that did not work for me.  When my laptop initially boots up, I cannot use the fingerprint sensor to login to Windows 7 - only my username appears where I have to enter the password.  However, once I am logged in, if I log out or lock the computer, then the fingerprint sensor works fine for logging in to Windows.  Does anyone know what could be causing it not to work the first time when Windows initially boots?  Any help would be appreciated!

I cannot get the fingerprint reader to work for logging into Windows 8.1 on my brand new T440s.  I have no problem registering my fingers in Fingerprint Manager Pro (v8.01.67 (x64)).  But when I try  to login with the finger print reader, I get any of these messages: A match for the fingerprint was not found in the fingerprint databaseUse a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprintThere was a problem scanning your fingerprint.  Try again...I have installed all updates (BIOS, Fingerprint Manager Pro, ...) via Lenovo System Update. I am just logging into Windows itself, not into a domain or a workgroup. I tried setting up the fingerprint reader via the Windows fingerprint enrollment utility, as suggested in this forum entry , but it made no difference. I haven't tried uninstalling/reinstalling the fingerprint drivers & utility software, since it was just updated via Lenovo System Update.  Should I? So I'm looking for some help.

Answer:Fingerprint reader not working for login on Windows 8.1 on T440s

I can only think of 2 possibilities:

1.  there is something wrong with your fingerprint scanner hardware
2.  (I don't mean to insult you) you're using it wrong

Don't get me wrong, #1 is a very real possibility but for #2 are you enrolling/swiping your finger in a single smooth motion like shown in the video?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HRhJHZJoSg

if i go idle for 15 seconds or more in log in screen.. windows hello wont read my fingerprint..like my reader stops working....fingerprint is still in my login option but no reaction everytime i try to swipe my finger in the reader..
i am sure that the reader is working fin because after i log in using password, i try to register new fingerprint and it is working fine..and there is no problem in my fingerprint reader before upgrading to windows 10
i tend to power up my laptop and then let it be for a few minutes..and i think its not the right behavior of fingerprint reader to stop reading fingerprint like that...
is there a good solution for this?

I can no longer use or enroll finger prints on my T430s laptop running Windows 8.1!ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is 6.0.0.8102.Sensor: TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode). Driver version: 1.6.2.352.  Symptom: when trying to enroll a fingerprint, I get the message: 'Use a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprint,' the sensor light turns from green to blinking orange (3 times), then back to green. Same happens when when trying to enroll from Windows PC Setting/ Sign-in Options/ Fingerprint (Add). What I tried: uninstalling ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software and Driver (to include selecting 'Delete the driver software for this device'), rebooting, using Lenovo System Update to re-install ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, rebooting. Have also tried to manually install previous versions of the Fingerprint Software to no avail.  Note: I had this similar problem in the past, since upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, but the steps above usually resolved it.  Has anybody encountered this issue? Any ideas for a solution? Many thanks!

Try rebooting into BIOS Setup (reboot and press F1 at the Lenovo/ThinkPad logo screen).  Then change to the Security menu, Fingerprint option, and choose the option about "Reset Fingerprint Data".  Then press F10 to save and exit and boot back into Windows.  Then try to enroll your finger again.

A few days ago my fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working. I looked around the forums and found a number of threads discussing this issue with workarounds about driver issues that were supposed to have been fixed by driver release 4.5.240.0. I dowloaded and have tried multiple times to uninstall and reinstall but nothing I do is working. I tried the older version as well to no avail. Help!

Hi
Have seen several posts but no solutions. After a windows 10 update a couple of months ago, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. It recognises me but then says "your credentials could not be confirmed".
Microsoft have sent endless messages blaming the driver, the scanner etc etc. Finally they say it is an issue with the update, but they have not solution at this time. Good old Microsoft and their helpful updates, which you cannot avoid.
Anyone have the same problem and how did you fix it??
Thanks

Hello. . .
I use the fingerprint reader to login to my Latitude E5550 every time.  However, I was unable to do so after the latest Windows 10 update (version 1607).

It did still show in the Windows Device Manager (i.e., no "Unknown Device" listed)
I went into the DDP Console to try to register a new fingerprint (for troubleshooting), but it wasn't reading the swipes
I attempted to update to the latest firmware/drivers, but that only caused unknown devices to show up in the Device Manager (ControlVault Firmware v3.3.15.0 and ControlVault Drivers v3.3.14.68)
Switched back to the older driver (v3.0.48.26) and all devices were once again recognized

Any suggestions for how to get around this?  It's not the end of the world, but I *really* like using the fingerprint reader (I paid extra for) to login.  If I can provide additional helpful information, please let me know.
Thanks!

Hello Sevenforums people,

My laptop recently got the "Windows Explorer has stopped working." error after logging in.
I rebooted my laptop one day and after logging in this popped up.

No background, task bar, icons etc. Safe mode doesn't work.
My laptop tried restoring itself to a point in time when it wasn't corrupt which also failed.
The error report says Shell32 is the faulting module. (I've had problems with Shell32 before on another computer, but on that pc I could acces internet and such.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I do not want to wait 2 month for Dell to reply to me with an evading answer.

It's a Dell XPS 15 l502x laptop with W7 Home Premium.

Thanks in advance.

Dear all, I've just received my P50 (20EQS00600, M1000M, i7-6700HQ, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) about a week ago, and I quite like it. However, there is one thing that is driving me nuts: after I upgraded from Win 7 Pro 64 bit to Win 10 Pro, the fingerprint functionality stopped working. This issue seems to be related to the ones reported in these two threads for the P70 but at the same time appears sufficiently different to warrant a new post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P70-fingerprint-software-issue/m-p/22517...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/Fingerprint-and-Sound-problems-P70/td-p/... So, here's what I did:1) I clean-installed Win 10 w/o retaining any data/settings from the previous Win 7 installation; I even reformatted the SSD.2) Upon initial installation I was asked by Windows Hello to enroll fingerprints which I did.3) Fingerprint worked on the first login but then magically vanished. Windows Hello is no longer showing up as a login option in the Win control panel.4) I discovered in Device Manager that the Synaptics WBDI reports the following problem: 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'.5) Repeated uninstall and reinstall of the drivers are to no avail. I tried both having Win look up a driver and manual installation of the drivers I downloaded from the Lenovo page.6) When I uninstalled the drivers and then wiped the stored fingerprints in BIOS, I was again able to enroll fingerprints with Windows... Same problem on my W550s under essentially the same circumstances.  Unfortunately Lenovo is taking the tack that FP problems on new machines are the fault of the software not the hardware so they will not warranty the bad FP sensor. I had 3 FP sensors in my W520 over the 3 years of its warranty as they are far from foolproof devices.  But now that Win 10 has taken over the software side of the usage, Lenovo has apparently decided they will save some service calls by not warranting the FP sensor and blaming the problem on software which they don't warranty. Good luck.  If you do find a solution, I will be listening closely.

Dear forum,

I recently updated my Lenovo E320 Keyboard- and Mousedriver. Something went wrong during the update. After the reboot I could not login to my Windows Account because the keyboard and the mouse stopped working. Keyboard works fine when entering/changing settings in bios.

So far I have installed a second Windows 7 on my second partition because I though I would be to somehow install the drivers from there. But I have not succeeded doing that.

Plese let me know if you have any useful hints.

Thank you very much in advance.

Answer:Keyboard stopped working after driver update - Windows login not possi

If you have an old PS2 keyboard laying around, plug it in and boot up. It should work. That will let you get to system restore using keyboard shortcuts, and you can use a restore point before the driver update was installed. Hopefully, that will bring back your USB keyboard and mouse. If the update caused the problem, I wouldn't suggest applying it again.

With windows 8.1, using the Lenovo software that came with my work laptop, once I used the fingerprint login method at least once at work, I could also use it at home.

With Windows 10, using the Microsoft-provided fingerprint registration tool, I can't login using the fingerprint reader when I'm not connected to the LAN at work. Is there a way to persist the "acceptance" of the fingerprint validation so that it will work when not connected to the server? (I use a VPN connection from home, but can't connect that until after logging in.)

Thanks,

Bob

The fingerprint reader on my W541 laptop stopped working.  It's been working for more than a year, and worked last week.  Now it's not working - not illuminated & doesn't read my fingerprint.  Going into 'Settings' (Windows 10), 'Accounts', & 'Sign-In Options', it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device".I believe 'Windows Hello' is the software that runs the fingerpront reader.Any ideas of what to look for to get this working again? I have not loaded any new software since last week (when the fingerprint reader was working). The last system update installed was:"Intel Corporation - Bluetooth - 11/14/2016 12:00:00 AM - 19.30.1646.853" - installed on 2/1/17 (4 days ago). The fingerprint reader worked OK after that update.

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but feel free to let me know if this needs to be re-directed. I've had an Elitebook 840 G2 for about 2 months with Windows 10 installed. I frequently used the fingerprint reader to log-in. However, as of yesterday, the fingerprint reader no longer seems to be working. I'm unable to log-in with the reader and when I try to set up a new fingerprint, the reader doesn't read it. I tried looking for the fingerprint reader driver but that's not listed for my model anywhere. Any guidance for what next steps are would be great. Thanks!

You can use the vista driver if you install it in compatibility mode. to do this right click the installer>properties>compatibility mode>check vista. then install

Hello, Fingerprint reader on my T400 had stopped working. Window Logo windows shows the FPR is unavailable, Lenovo FPR software shows "can not communicate with the senor. Please confirm the sensor is ready". I have no clue what caused this problem, not sure if its related with bios updated I had done a few days before? I searched this forum and tried to find solution online, I tried:1) remove fingerprint software and uninstall authentec device driver from "device manager", reboot, re-install the lenovo fingerpint software 2) verified the fingerprint bios settings(internal reader etc) But still no luck with the FPR. I had FPR "pre-desktop" freture enabled in the bios so I could use FPR to login to bios. Now the bios FPR login window doesn't show up and I have to type in password to get into bios. Could it be a hardware failure? ( However it shows the authentec device is working properly in "device manager".)

I tried doing a search but came up with nothing. The fingerprint scanner on my P50 just stopped working last week. No changes were made by me. In device manager there is an exclamation under Biometric devices/Synaptics WBDI. I tried disabling/reenabling and also tried uninstalling that and re-installing the Synaptics drivers from the support page but nothing is helping. I'm working on a project right now so don't have the time to do a Windows 10 re-install or contact support and inevitably ship this computer in for repair....so I thought I'd ask and see if anyone was experiencing this lately and if there was a simple fix (assuming the hardware just didn't fail suddenly). Thanks

My fingerprint reader has stopped working again. It started working after the last Windows 10 update, but after some time it just stopped working. I got a message saying to "swipe my finger slowly". Other times it said to "swipe finger more to the left" But no matter how many times I tried the reader just did not recognized my fingerprint. Now the reader's light is not even visible when I swipe my finger. I have not updated Windows again since I'm waiting for the latest update of Windows Creator to be available for my laptop.  All the other available updates for my laptop were supposedly installed on 4-17-17 Any help? I have an X1 carbon just purchased in January of 2016.  it came with Windows 10 and and all off the updates from Lenovo and Windows have been downloaded and installed.  the device manager says the fingerprint scanner driver is up to date. The fingerprint reader no longer works.  I receive messages such as " try using a longer stroke" or "move your finger to the right".  It worked in the beginning, then it would take several strokes before it registerd and now it does not work at all.  I have tried to register a new print with Windows and after about 20 trys it tells me the finger is already registered.  Then I tried a different finger and I just keep getting the messages refered to above.  How can I fix this?

Answer:fingerprint reader stopped working

Try clearing the fingerprint sensor from BIOS Setup:

1.  Reboot
2.  Press F1 to enter BIOS Setup
3.  Change to the Security page, and then select the Fingerprint item
4.  Choose the option to Reset Fingerprint Data, and then wait for it to finish
5.  Press F10 to save/exit and reboot to Windows 10
6.  Delete your fingerprints and try enrolling again, from the Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen

I try to open the fingerprint reader program but it says "Failed to connect to the sensor."
Why do you think it's failed to connect to it and how can I get it to connect?

Answer:Fingerprint reader seems to have randomly stopped working

Sounds like there is a bad connection.
I would send the laptop to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

There is an ASP list on the Toshiba Website.

Two weeks ago I bought a Yoga 720 and it has worked fine (including the fingerprint scanner). Three days ago it just stopped working. Now the Windows Hello says that my device doesn't support that feature. In the device manager it indicates that the Windows can't load the driver (Code 31?). I have been trying to reload the drivers for the fingerprint scanner from Lenovo without success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Last week it worked fine...was able to swipe my finger when off and it booted and signed in just last week swiping my finger wouldn;t power on, but i could turn on manually and swipe finger to login to windows the option for poweron was still on...i read t clear the fingerprint data now when i try to register fingerprints i get the error E7210005 Fingerprint sensor device is exclusivly used by another application I read to uninstall the driver, uninstall the fingerprint software, reboot and clear the data in the bios then reinstall I've tried this multiple times and i get the same error... Any solutions?

Answer:w530 fingerprint scanner stopped working

Try uninstalling all of the fingerprint manager software, then use this:https://driverstoreexplorer.codeplex.com/Select everything by Authentec, and choose to Delete Package (check Force Delete) if you have to. Reboot, then try again. Also make sure Windows Update isn't installing some generic driver before you have a chance to install the proper one.

For the last few days I have not been able to use the fingerprint login with my T500. The reader shows and is waiting for several minutes. but the "swipe your finger" invitation does not show and instead the manual logon screen is displayed. It still works with secure websites etc. I hope this can be fixed.

I recently downloaded from Toshiba and installed Fingerprint Utility V1.0.3.49 (tc00407400c.exe) and since then my fingerprint scanner has stopped working.
The software opens but wont recognize my fingerprint and can't login any other way.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and same result.

Device manager says device working ok.

Answer:Fingerprint scanner has stopped working after vV1.0.3.49 update

May I ask you what notebook model you have and what system you are using?

Probably you would need to delete the registered fingerprints and after the new reboot you should try to register the new fingerprints using the updated fingerprint software.

Did you try that?

Today I started up my laptop, signed in using the fingerprint scanner, then checked for updates.  After updating (Lenovo Fingerprint Manger - 7/8 [32,63] (Version 4.5.266.0) and Lenovo Solution Center - 7 [64] (Version 2.4.003)) and rebooting the scanner stopped working. Upon running the device manager, uninstalling the device, rescanning, my laptop attempts to install the device driver and fails. How can I either uninstall the updates OR load the driver? This is not a hardware issue, it is something jacked up with either update.

It seems the fingerprint reader on my x230t decided to stop working. Running Windows 8.1 Pro x64. Device manager lists a "TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode" under Biometric Devices and that's it. BIOS claims there is no fingerprint reader installed under the security tab, and the Lenovo Fingerprint software cannot detect the reader, either.I appreciate any help!!!

Answer:B570 Fingerprint reader stopped working - need help

dimmaemmy,

I split your message off from the other thread that was more of a general complaint rather than focused on getting help for the finger print reader.  While it seems like this has happened to at least one other person, the community doesn't seem to understand what is going on just yet.

Can you tell us a bit more about the situation?

How long have you had the B570?  Which model is it? (There is a type number on the bottom that should be 7 characters long - this will help us get more information).

Does it ever work?  Is it just buggy, or was it working fine and then just quit?

What have you tried already?

Generically, we'd suggest:

1) Check BIOS to see if there are any settings for FP enable / disable
2) Check device manager - does the fingerprint reader show up - would be under biometric devices (I think)
3) Have you downloaded and re-installed the drivers?

OK - assuming you've done those things we have some choices on next steps.

You could try to back up your data and then use one key recovery to restore system to factory state - this will wipe everything.  If something has become corrupt software wise, this should fix it.  If not, you just wasted some time and will have to reinstall your stuff.

You could call service, they could try some things over the phone, possibly offer to remote into your system and try to fix it, or arrange for you to send in for service.

I woke up this morning, turned on the laptop, and completely out of the blue the fingerprint detection stopped working with the message "Sorry, something went wrong" (It had been working for months).  So I removed fingerprint detection in Windows setup so I could reset it, however it will not let me set up a new fingerprint.   Here is what happens when I try and reset it: 1) Click Setup.2) Click Get Started.3) Message comes up "Touch the fingerprint screen" (NOTE: The green LED illuminates).4) Place the finger on the screen and the following message immediately appears:     Sorry, something went wrong.  Close Windows Hello, and then try going through the setup again.5) So rebooted to make sure that was not the problem and tried again and it still does not work. What else I tried: 1) I uninstalled the Biometrics Driver and reinstalled it from the Lenovo site.....Same problem. My laptop = T470OS = Win 10 Pro 64 bit (Latest Updates from Microsoft)All Drivers = (Latest Updates from Lenovo)Biometric Device = Synaptics WBD(SGX enabled)    The device is working properly    Driver = 5.2.3515.26 (05-23-2017)

Hello,
After installing Windows updates and Dell's updates, including the "Dell Data Protection" software, the fingerprint login option ceased working.
I tried configuring the fingerprint login via the DDP Console, but in the end of the process (after configuring the fingerprint) it says that "The biometric unit is not in the proper state to perform the specified operation". What does it mean?

It is worth noting, that the biometric device reads fingerprints (I'm able to add\remove fingerprints via the Windows sign-in options screen and via the DDP Console, until it says that there is an error as stated above).
OS: Windows 10 pro
Please advise.
Thanks in advance!

This Latitude E5470 is quite new, but out of warranty, but the fingerprint has never worked properly.
It works sometimes, but mostly not. I've tried re-doing the fingerprint recognition several times, but it keeps telling me that it might need cleaning. I have to put in the pin number most of the time. Its terrible.
My 5 year old Vostro works fine, but this new laptop is really bad - this was an expensive laptop, I'm really disappointed.
It didn't work with Win7 and Win10.
Any ideas on how to fix this.Should I reinstall the driver (how do I do this?), replace the fingerprint pad - anything else? Thanks

Hi,I am suspecting a hardware failure, but wanted to check the forums first anyway.I have an X230 Tablet running Windows 8.1 Update. Fingerprint software 6.0. Was working fine (i.e. swipe to power on and log on to Windows and the Lenovo Password Mgr) until this morning. No more green light on the sensor, no function. Windows says that the fingerprint sensor is not available. It was still showing up in Device Manager, I uninstalled it as part of some troubleshooting and it's not being detected anymore now.Any ideas other than hardware? Thanks,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet fingerprint reader stopped working

It sounds like hardware failure but try one more thing:

Reboot into BIOS setup (by pressing F1 at the ThinkPad logo screen).
Go to the security -> fingerprint menu.
There's an option about clearing the fingerprint sensor storage (or something like that).
What happens?

I know many people have had this issue but I can't find the solution. One of the threads from 2014 has a "solved" reply but all it says is "this appears to have solved my problem." Left wondering what solved the problem... I've had this computer for a week. The fingerprint reader worked fine until yesterday. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I connected an older DVD write drive to the USB port to try and install an old software. After that, the fingerprint reader will no longer light up or work. The driver seems to be working fine under Device Manager, but when I open the Fingerprint Reader app I get a message saying the reader is not connected. Is this a problem that has remained forever unresolved and unaddressed by Lenovo or is there a solution that someone can point me to? Any help will be much appreciated.

Answer:T450s brand new and fingerprint reader stopped working

It might be something got corrupted on the fingerprint sensor, or it might be the hardware went bad.
To rule out corruption:
1.  reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS setup
2.  change to the Security menu, and then pick the Fingerprint item
3.  choose the option to "Reset Fingerprint Data"
4.  BIOS setup will tell you the result - what does it say?
5.  if step #4 is OK, then reboot into Windows and try to enroll your fingerprint again

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me ?
First, please excuse my poor English, I'm Norwegian ( ! )
and allow me to tell you that I am just "normally" technical ...
-so please, please "speak" so I can understand.

My fingerprint sensor stopped working today, this has happen before,
restarting the computer has previously "fixed" the problem, but not today ... !

I have dowloaded and installed new drivers & software ( TrueSuite Access Manager ) ( from Toshiba support ) -- still not working ...
I have checked the Device manager ( Biometric Devices )
It says that the device is working properly. It says that the drivers are all up to date.
But it still does not work.

I've been on the phone with Toshiba support for a long time today, but not even support could help me ...
they had never heard of a similar problem on a Qosmio X300 before ( ? )
They suspcted that I had send it in for service ... and I would like to avvoid this, if I can ...
Cause that means that my computer will be gone for at least 14 days ...

I have also read all threads about fingerprint problems in this forum, and tried everything ... but nothing helps !

When I'm promted to scan my finger, the scanner seems to be "dead" ... ?
Can anyone please help me to solve this problem ?

Hoping for help !
Thanks so much for taking the time ...

Answer:Qosmio X300 - Fingerprint sensor stopped working

Hello

This is really strange but I can?t say at the moment what causes this issue.

Have you tried to update the BIOS? You can find it on the Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

If it doesn?t work you should try to reinstall Windows by using the Toshiba recovery disk. Maybe it?s a software issue or something else. You have already updated the drivers and software so I think this would be the next step.

In worst case you should sent it in for service or repair. I think there is no other solution but I have good experience with the Toshiba service.
I did send it in my notebook in and I get it back after 10 days. Very fast and the problem was solved. :)

A few weeks ago the fingerprint scanner on my girlfriend's U460 stopped working. She was deep into a major project at the time so I wasn't able to really look into it until now. To the best of my knowledge no new software was installed around that time and the only updates would have come through Windows Update. The software does not recognize that the fingerprint scanner is connected. I uninstalled the software, restarted, and installed the latest version (5.9.3.6245) for Windows 7 64-bit from the lenovo download page. The problem seems to be that either Windows isn't detecting the hardware or that it's been given a generic driver and I can't find it. There's nothing in the device manager that appears to be the fingerprint reader. Normally with these symptoms I'd assume the hardware has gone bad, but looking for solutions there seem to be a lot of issues with Lenovo fingerprint readers. I just haven't seen anything about what I'm seeing specifically. Any ideas?

I have a Portege R500 laptop. The fingerprint utility has stopped working. First (perhaps after an update of the True Suite Acess Manager was installed a few months ago) it failed to work on login but did work for other passwords.

Now it doesn't work at all. If I try to register fingerprints it tells me that it has failed to locate the sensor. I have reinstalled the AES1610 driver and the TrueSuite access manager, but it makes no difference.

In Device Manager it says that the device is working. I have looked at various threads on this without seeing anything that works.

Answer:Portege R500 - fingerprint utility has stopped working

Hmm? Maybe you should try to clean the registry after the fingerprint software has been uninstalled.

In your case I would follow this:
- uninstall the fingerprint software and delete the fingerprint device from the device manager.
- reboot the notebook
- clean the registry using the free tool called CCleaner
- reboot once again and install the software and driver
- reboot once again and test the fingerprint functionality

I have a Lenovo T510 (4313CTO) system that until recently worked just perfectly. After I know not what - I have checked the Windows Update log, etc. - now, when booting, when the system reaches the Windows logon screen, the usual 'Please wait' message is displayed, but after maybe 30s of that, it reads 'No attempt to start this service has been made since the last boot'. This error only occurs on a fresh boot. When logging out and in again, it works correctly. I use the SSO function, so one finger swipe unlocks the hard drive and should log into Windows. The first BIOS swipe works fine, i.e. it cannot be a hard ware problem. After a little research, I reckon this 'service' that is not starting is upeksvr.exe, given pg. 66 of this Lenovo CSS document. The particular error message I believe is a Windows system error, no. 1077 given this MSDN article. After removing all of the Lenovo Fingerprint software and all fingerprint data, upgrading FPRS, downgrading, and having trawled the net for solutions to no avail, I have not had any success. A call to Lenovo yielded no help either (no surprise there...) I would really appreciate any help you can offer, to save me from having to reinstall the system!

Answer:Lenovo T510 (4313CTO) fingerprint reader not working at first login

I had a similar problem, the first time I occurred after a Windows Update.  This time I formatted and made a fresh Windows 7 installation.  The next time the same happened again after I updated the system using the "Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update". When I tried to open the Fingerprint software directly the following message appeared ?The dependency service or group failed to start" and the Error Code E7210001 appeared in details. This time I discovered in another forum while searching for another problem ( "Devices and Printers" did not load) that the problem was due to one of the services was disabled, the Credential Manager service. To correct this just type in Start the following: services.exe Look for the service: Credential Manager In properties the Startup type should be set to "Automatic" Press Ok and the next time you restart the computer the Fingerprint reader should work. Hope this solves your problem.

I have a Toshiba Tecra S5 notebook and I've been using fingerprint logon since the beginning.

It stopped working when I chanaged my password.
Fingerprints are associated with the old password.

I have looked all over to find where to change that without success.

Anybody can point me in a right direction?

Thanx

Answer:Tecra S5 - Fingerprint logon stopped working when I chanaged password

Hi

I think you should remove the old fingerprints and should configure this again.
As far as I know you can use the new password to login.
Then access the Trusuite software settings, remove the old fingerprints and reconfigure it again using new scanned fingerprints.

Theoretically this should work.

Well my problem starts off like this I have a Qosmio X500-12Z I bought it the first few months were fine then suddenly my fingerprint utility stops working when I try to mannually turn it on it says "cannot connect to sensor" I dont know what to do I didnt tamper with any drivers or anything. I tried reinstalling it but still the same thing, TEMPRO also stopped working about at the same time. When I try to turn on TEMPRO Manually it says executable stopped working

What to do I have no idea will someone help me?

Answer:Qosmio X500-12Z - Fingerprint utility and TEMPRO stopped working

Hello

Well, generally speaking if you don?t need the fingerprint sensor you can ignore this error message. Also TEMPRO is not so important because it only informs you about new driver updates and if everything is ok with your notebook you don?t need newer drivers or tools.

But if both applications don?t run I would recommend reinstalling them. Uninstall both tools and restart your computer. Then run ?CCleaner? that is a freeware registry cleaner to delete old registry keys. Restart again and then download & install newest version of both tools.

I've now tried installing the Windows 10 Pro Creator's Update twice, and both times my fingerprint reader stopped working for Windows Hello. I just get "Your credentials could not be verified". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (and I'm on the latest), removing and re-registering my fingerprint, and I've also tried the trick I saw suggested elsewhere of switching to a local account, then back to a Microsoft account. That works temporarily but as soon as I switch back to my MS account, it breaks again. I've rooted around the BIOS but everything seems fine. I have the same fingerprint set on startup and that still works fine; Windows just doesn't recognize it, either when it's passed on from the BIOS or when I try to do it again manually. Has anyone had this problem and managed to fix it *without* reverting permanently to a local account? I don't see why that should be necessary and it definitely isn't supposed to be. I have reverted back to the Anniversary Update both times because of this issue.

Hey I was wondering if anyone knows a way to change the picture for the fingerprint login for Vista. It doesn't show up in user accounts so it can't be done that way and I have been searching  but can't find anything on it. Another thing is that sometime after my computer comes back from sleep it says "wait..." at the top instead of the ready message and the fingerprint reader won't scan anything. If I log on with my password and go to the fingerprint software it just says its loading and continues to do that, I can't get into the options. A restart fixes this and I have read about keeping the computer from turning it off to save power but it seems like it should come back on after a minute or so but it won't work again until I restart. Also if I keep it from getting turned off will that effect the sleep time by much? Thanks for any replies

Or should I say they suddenly stopped working under windows. I am using windows xp sp2 and have been using this laptop on the same installation of Windows for about 6 months now.. no problems at all.. till now. This morning when i turned on my laptop, the first thing i noticed that the fingerprint reader was not working.. It was not giving me any response at all.. so i logged in with my password.. Then while using the internet the wifi got disconnected from the router and after that it refused to work no matter what I do.. It gets stuck on "acquiring network adress" but when i gave a static ip, like 192.168.1.232 it gets connected but i dont get any data from the router.. it shows offline mode.. also the wifi gets disabled and then enabled by itself multiple times.. I had to turn it off..  -The router is fine.. my acer aspir 5315 and my nokia connects with the router via wi fi without any problems... - Also I tried using the wifi under ubuntu linux and it works there.. meaning the net works wirelessly without any problems in ubuntu but it refuses to connect in windows xp.. I could not try the fingerprint reader in ubuntu since it is not supported by linux yet. I tried removing the drivers and reinstalling the software+drivers.. but that did not help... any ideas as to what may have caused this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. I dont want to do a re-install of windows.. Help

Hi everyone, today Windows 10 decided to upgrade itself to version 1511 / threshold 2. Mostly it went smooth, however now there're two problems: 1. there's an unknown device without driver in the Device Manager. Device instance path (more or less literal translation from German) is ROOT\INTEL_UOIP_BUS_DRIVER\0000, hardware id is root\hubusbpalbus. I cannot make anything of this or the other values reported by the device manager, perhaps someone here can help me out?2. Login with fingerprint does not work anymore. I can add fingers in the account settings, and this seems to work, but every login attempt is rejected with a message something like "your fingerprint has not been recognized, make sure to use the right finger" or whatever. Fingerprint sensor is enabled and reported as working in Device Manager. Password and PIN are set, obviously. I tried to remove all fingers and PIN, reboot, re-add fingers, but no success. No group policy disables biometry. Fingerprint is also enabled in the login screen.... Any help is greatly appreciated!Markus

Hi,

I recently installed Windows 10 Pro 64Bit on this Dell Latitude E5540 laptop but can't get the fingerprint working...

I also installed the Dell data protection security tool for windows 10 (version: 1.6.1.1055,A14) from Dell E5540 Support and Drivers page.

Windows had already recognized the the fingerprint reader as Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=003f) under Biometrics. But whenever I run the Dell Data Protection Console and try to register my fingerprint it always says:

"The fingerprint reader is not connected. Connect the reader."

The device is enabled in device manager and has no errors. It used to work fine when I had windows 7. Am I missing some drivers or software for Windows 10? I need the FP reader working ASAP.

Can anyone please help me out?

Answer:Portege R500 - Fingerprint Software suddenly stopped working: driver error

Hi

It?s strange that a driver stops working suddenly.
However, possibly there is are some corrupted system or driver files? who knows... ?:|
If the software and driver reinstallation don?t help try to roll back the OS to the early time point.

In worst case you will have to use the Toshiba recovery CD to restore the machine to the factory settings? but hopefully the Vista system restore tool will help.

Good luck and best regards buddy

Hi,

I need some help trying to solve a keyboard problem. Anyway, Awhile ago my keyboard decided to stop working... i remember there was some kind of usb port exceeding limitations error so i rebooted the computer and the keyboard didn't work at all. So I tried the broken keyboard out on our other computer and it still didn't work (so i thought it must be something wrong with the keyboard) So i got my keyboard that works from the other computer and everything was working again. But then shortly after the working keyboard stopped working (but it still worked on our other computer). So now none of our keyboards will work on the computer, however the keyboard that was working will still work when the computer loads up (e.g i can press f12/f2/f8) but when i get to the login screen i cant type anything so now i can't log in.

sorry that was a bit confusing because im really sick and have a huge headache =\

any help?

Answer:Keyboard stopped working!! cant login!

First are all the keyboards you ended up using USB? have your tried a ps2 one.
Second you can always access the on-screen keyboard to log in, in the meantime.

I have a Thinkpad z60t. I am using Windows XP SP2 and I have loaded the Thinkvantage software and done the fingerprint enrollment. I am now having some trouble, how do I set it up so that the Windows login instead of being a password I just swipe my fingerprint instead. I've been going through the Thinkvantage software and Windows but can't find the option do to turn it on. Also is there any other fingerprint login options such as BIOS or folders etc?

I'll start from the beginning, I was on the computer and the keyboard started acting funky. It wouldn't type letters in all the time and some keys wouldn't work. This has never happened before and it was working just minutes ago. I restarted the computer thinking it would fix it. I reach the login screen and to my horror my password doesn't work. I type it in 2 more times carefuly checking the number of letters(only shows dots on the screen) I figured my keyboard borked out and I click the sybmol in the bottem right to access the onscreen keyboard but when I click it, it won't open. I really panic now and shut down the computer and get into safe mode. Except I need my password to get in to it! Do I need to take it into a repair shop or what?

Answer:I can't login, my password has suddenly stopped working

You can try accessing the Advanced Boot Options menu. Turn off computer and restart and as Windows splash screen begins to load continuously tap F8. This will bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu. From here you have several options. You might try System Restore Option. This will restore important Windows files settings back to previous settings. This utility is easy to use and gives step-by-step instructions to revert to a point in the past called a 'restore point' to return your important files and settings.

Good Luck and post back and let us know.

If anyone knows a way to login using only a fingerprint login and _not_ have the option for a Windows password, I'd appreciate hearing about how you do it.  My notebook is a Thinkpad X61S and the software is the latest Thinkvantage fingerprint reader (5.8 or so) running on Vista business.

I have also hit this exact same problem: HP EliteBook 8540pWindows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1HP ProtectTools (sp59257)Validity Fingerprint Drivers (sp66915) Enrollment works fine. But when I go to unlock/login, my fingerprints are verified, but instead of logging in, it just goes back to the windows login user selection screen.

I have an  E520 type1143 with i5 processor and running Windows7-64. Can anyone tell me if the  fingerprint reader can be set to function for anything other than logging into Windows? That is, I want to be offered the option to scan my fingerprint every time I?m asked for a password. I use the Client Security Software Password Manager for some web sites, but for most sites, programs, and documents, I don?t want the ?autofill? feature, thus I want the option to scan my fingerprint. I just want to know if it is even possible, so if it is not, I can stop wasting my time trying to get it to work.

Answer:Fingerprint for Passwords beyond Windows Login???

Bash windows/app developers for this.Fingerprint drivers of our Edges tap in nicely into Windows API (you can use windows' own biometric scan program and it'll work) problem is there are either no APIs for developers to use such function or they are hard to use or devs are to lazy to use them. One thing is for sure - Lenovo chose wisely here, they've provided us with the least evil solution :]

I have an HP 4540s, windows 7 professional 64,  with a fingerprint scanner that was working to login to windows.  Now scanning an enrolled fingerprint won't login, it just goes back to the windows login user selection screen.  The fingerprint scanner works, it will say that an unenrolled fingerprint is not verified, and will bring up the HP Protect Tools Password Manager if swiped with an enrolled fingerprint when logged in.   How can I fix the fingerprint windows login?  I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Hp Protect Tools security manager, Device access manager for HP protect tools, and Validity fingerprint sensor driver.  Hard reset did not fix.

Answer:Tweakin windows 7 fingerprint login

Just keeping a thread alive. I've found no solution. The inbuilt windows fingerprint reader software seems as if it could be a lot more graceful than the old IBM add on, except that I have to make all these extra clicks at login, instead of just swiping my finger. If anyone finds a solution, or MS sees this and realizes it's dumb this way. . . .

Ok so I see many posts about issues with Fingerpint reading in 8.1 Pro x64 but none of them are helping me. Got an X1 Carbon Type 20BS which uses a Synaptics fingerprint. I can register fingerprints and tell WIndows to allow fingerprints for logging in but no matter what I try, at the login screen there is no option to login with fingerprint I jjust got this laptop for work logging onto a domain and the settings in Local Group Policy Editor etc including allow use Fingerprint to login to a domain were already enabled and I am setup with local admin rights At first I registered fingerprints with the Lenovo Manager but since found out Windows 8.1 has built on fingerprint management so I deleted all fingeprints with the Lenovo Manager and went to PC settings, Accounts and added fingerprints there for login. Still nothing. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest Lenovo fingerprint manager, adding 2 lots of registry settings to Windows -> Policies and Windows -> WInbio nothing works!! So obviously no issues with drivers and hardware WIndows just wont start the fingerprint sensor at login. Some times I actually saw the light come on before I hit the login screen but then it goes out. Also has a look at services, Windows Biometrics is set to Auto Start, Credential Manager set to Manual but running.. So I am out of ideas here.. Is there anything else I could be missing set up to disable fingerprint login? Right now I am just logged onto... Read more

I can't find a way to use my fingerprint to login to the domain in Windows 8.1
It seems that Win8 is different that Win7 in terms of allowing for fingerprint domain login.  Based on what I found on another Win7 thread I did some modifications
and got this far in terms of fixing the problem:
In Administration Tools go to:
Local Group Policy Editor / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Biometrics

 Allow  the use of biometrics
(the default is 'not configured') Allow  users to logon using biometrics
(the default is 'not configured') Allow  domain users to logon using biometrics
(the default is 'not configured')
After this the PC will ask you to ?Lock? the PC and follow instructions.  I keep restarting the PC but can't get it to work yet; I'm probably misunderstanding
something or missed a step.

Hi, I downgraded my ThinkPad S440 to Windows 7 (because Win8.1 was a mess) and everything works fine. Just the fingerprint reader seems to make some trouble. When I shut the laptop down (completely, no sleep or anything) and boot it back up, windows does not give me the option to log in using my fingerprint (I can only enter my password). When I lock the machine or simply log off or come from sleep or anything else, everything works fine, I can just use my fingerprint to log in.Funny thing is: when I uninstall the Lenovo Fingerprint Manager and the driver, windows does give me the option t use my fingerprint (which doesn't work without a driver, obviously). Can somebody help me and tell me what I'm missing? Best regards,Brillow

Hello Xia0yi1990Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.Try to download the Fingerprint and Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page.

Make sure to reboot after an update on the unit. Also, try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Is it possible to make me login with my fingerprint and disable the possibility of logging in to windows with a password? I have the x301 ThinkPad, and I just fresh-installed windows 8. So I went to the lenovo drivers section and downloaded "lenovo fingerprint reader". But whenever I log into windows I can use my fingerprint, but it is silly that I have a cool fingerprint feature but I can still log in with a password... Help??

Answer:Can I disable windows 8 password and login only with my fingerprint?

I think that is not a great idea. If the weather is very dry for some time, the fingerprint reader works less well. I often have problems at high-altitude, where humidity is low, especially in the winter, where the house needs to be heated.

On a fresh install of Windows 7 Enterprise, the Authentec fingerprint software has two problems that I can't find a resolution to

1. It won't login to domain and only logs in as a local user. User would need to type in the password to login to as domain user. How to fix this or workaround?

2. Can't seem to register logins for webpages. I'm not sure if this is user error/training or the program itself is not working to register webpage login/pwd's and applying it as well.

Does anyone have solutions to the above? I'm having trouble searching for any answers to this.

Thank you.

Z61P 9452-J6G Dear friends, I cannot login any longer on my Z61p since I upgrade the fingerprint reader software to the last version. I had a look at the 47 psts linked to fingerprint keyword but I have found nothing related to the problem below. After restart, the fingerprint software starts automatically and request to "enroll" the user. I did "enroll" my current user meaning scanning fingerprints and associating the fingerprints with the Windows password. Every time I start the computer, the enrollment software always starts automatically.I cannot enroll again with same user (passport name <current user> cannot be used with same passport)I cannot change the user (fields with user name and domain are greyer)I did tried to use another local user. The software enrolls it and, now, I have the same issue with this user.Every time, I cancel the fingerprint software, the computer ends the session.I tried to use Ctr/Alt/Del to open another process but without success (nothing happens) It is difficult to give more details on the system installed as I have no access to it.Basically, Windows XP is up-to-date (I did upgrade everything last Friday) and all programs linked to ThinkVantage are also upgraded (my current issue is a consequence of the upgrades)Access Connections is up and running (apparently, the laptop is able to log to my network) I have tried to reset the fingerprint software in the BIOS but it has changed nothing in Win... I finally got Windows 10 installed via the update method from Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  But now I am unable to get the fingerprint scanner to work. It shows up in Device Manager as working okay and drivers installed. However in Win10 Settings, Logins, the option to enable the fingerprint scanner does not appear.  Now what? One of the prerequisites to enable the fingerprint scanner in Win10 is to first set up a PIN login, which I did. After that and rebooted  I was offered the PIN signin, which worked.  But STILL, nothing I could do would let me setup the fingerprint scanner in Windows login settings. It's as though there was no fingerprint scanner installed on the machine. I checked the HP Support website for an updated fingerprint scanner driver, but none was offered. I tried uninstalling the hardware in Device Manager. It appears under Biometric>Validity Sensor.  After uninstalling I made it search for new hardware. It found that sensor and reinstalled the drivers. It said the device was working.  But after reboot I am still unable to see an Enable Fingerprint Scanner choice in Windows 10 Settings>Accounts>Sign-in Options. The items in the right column in that section are Require Sign-In; Password; PIN; Picture Password; and Related settings. When I search Win 10 settings for Fingerprint Scanner, it provides a link that takes me to that Sign-In Options page, but there is no item for Hello or Setup Fingerprint Sign-in.&... Answer:Windows 10 - can't activate fingerprint scanner login

After much trial and error, I have finally found a way to get the fingerprint scanner on select HP laptops to work with Windows 10 ?HELLO?. First, one needs to verify that the machine has the required scanner. The scanner is usually already installed in Device Manager, but not recognized anywhere else. So, to check that the device is the correct one for this process to work, its ID should be checked in Device Manager. To do this, follow these steps:Click on the Start button and type ?Device Manager? and ENTER. This should launch the Device Manager.Expand the Biometric devices. You should now see an entry for the Validity Sensor (It sometimes has additional descriptions, but all we need is to ID the VALIDITY device).Double-click on the VALIDITY device to open its? PropertiesClick on the Details tab and select Hardware Ids in the Property entry box.If the device can be ?fixed? with the process detailed below, it will have a Hardware ID of: USB\VID_138A&PID_0007You can now close all open windows until you are back at the desktop.Nothing has been changed yet, BUT?if the Hardware ID matches the entry above, you are ?good to go? in performing the procedures below! Hopefully, the Hardware ID will match on your machine and you can now proceed with the actual download and upgrade procedures as detailed in the following stages: Stage 1 - DownloadFirst, we need to get the correct driver for Windows 10. Hi Robert,

Did this issue happened all of a sudden? When was the last time your computer worked successfully? Try performing a system restore and set the date to where your computer was working fine. Also, try running a virus/spyware scan on your computer. Please provide an update when you can, thank you.

i get the message every time i launch ie and can't do a thing with it.
Tried the following but error still popping up:
1- resetting the internet options from control panel/deleting browsing history etc.
2- restoring the system to an earlier saved point
3- deactivating/activating back ie from windows installed components

A site suggested to run internet explorer performance troubleshooter but didn't know where to find that...

My guess is a sort of malware but i am not sure, any help would be most appreciated.
